Well for the first time as far as I can remember I have seen the UK do well. And it got the best score by the jury and ended up in second by Ukraine. I'm considering that more than a victory.

True, it was nice to see UK rising from the flop they did last year. It was nice performance and song was alright overall

It's been flops as far back as I can remember. And to be honest last years wasn't the best but certainly didn't deserve 0 points. That being said Germany, Spain and the Netherlands also got 0 public votes as well.

ESC consists of three parts. First & second semi-finale and a grand finale. in each semi finale 10 countries who gets the most televotes points progress into grand finale where they compete with big 5 (Spain, UK, Germany, Italy and France). After all 25 songs in grand finale are sung audience votes, then jury votes and the country with the most votes wins and gets to hot the eurovision next year

I am elated for the UK, finally getting a high ranking in Eurovision after all these years.

Congratulations to Ukraine.

Thankfully, nobody received nul points in the overall score.

3 of them are in my personal top 10-and-then-some.

Poor France :(
They deserved better than second from last, and the juries screwed over Moldova. Happy for Ukraine though

I didn’t expect the UK to actually turn itself around until I heard that their entry had a considerable TikTok following. Still, Ukraine deserved the victory that they needed the most.

This is probably the best result I've ever seen. Ukraine winning, which they needed after their experiences this year, but the UK coming in a strong second and the winner by judges. Very happy with it.

Norway and Moldova deserved more recognition though. And Serbia's performance was shite, who voted for them?

Agreed with this! Also, I really wish they did less ballads/slow-paced songs. The occasional ballad in Eurovision is a nice touch, but this was just waaaaaay too many. It made watching the perfomances a snoozefest imo, but yeah the results & voting were great!

I suspect it was all the public which would have normally voted for Russia gave to Serbia instead, due to it's strong ties to Russia. Either that or my jokes about the song being an attempt at hypnosis were not unfounded and it actually worked.

Ah... Seems like everyone here is very happy with Ukraine winning :/
Don't get me wrong, I really like their song and I would without a doubt award it a top 5 or even top 3 finish... but winning? and with such a landslide with the televote? sorry, but no. Ukraine is always one of my favorites, and "Stefania" is not the exception, but they sent entries in the past that deserved victory way more (Go_A with Shum for example).

Really happy for the UK and Spain, hopefully, this will help them to revert their long-standing tradition of finishing with almost no points.
Serbia's entry was phenomenal. The perfect mixture of weirdness and clever staging, with quite an interesting message. Hope to see more things like this coming from Serbia.
France deserved to flop. The studio version of Fulenn is amazing, but the live performance was a total hot mess.

I'm probably the only one thinking this, but Azerbaijan deserved way more. 3 points (and 0 at the semi-final!!!) from the televote was really harsh, their ballad was pretty beautiful and also their singer and was without a doubt my favorite ballad of the night. For reasons like this is why I'm really, really, really happy that a jury exists.

I really don't know if it's anything to do with Russia, in absence of reliable reports.

EXTRA: I think it is the Artistic Award category of the The Marcel Bezençon Awards that influenced it. Since 2010, the commentators vote on the award, and the winners are announced just before the final begins.

My favourites this year were the Dutch, British, Swedish and Armenian songs. Glad to see the UK entry do soo well after their disaster last year and yeah Ukraine won, i think everyone saw that coming. I wonder if they will be able to host it next year though or if they might let the UK do it instead or something.

The event was unfair. Everyone just voted for the Ukrainian entry because of Russia's invasion.

I call a redo.

Should the UK get Miley Cyrus to represent us next time on Eurovision, or perhaps someone like Ariana Grande, Julia Michaels, Ava Max representing the UK?

Yes, they're American, but they're already big names anyway.

It could be good publicity for Ava Max who's already widely popular here in the UK anyway!

Would it be good for the celebrities concerned?

Julia Michaels isn't a huge A-lister, but she's not an unknown either.

Ariana Grande, well, she's a big enough name to be on Eurovision.

But then again would this end up on a Top 20 PR Disasters list if such a thing did happen?

The main singer need to hold the citizenship of the country they represent, be native to the state or be partially ethnic to the state or live in the state (which means holding its passport) so Ava Max cannot represent UK but since she is of Albanian descent she technically could represent Albania but that's unlikely to happen due to the fact that no European country wants to import their candidates. Adale, being British could partake in Eurovision for UK but considering she is world known star she probably have no time and would feel like cheating (flashback to the backlash of San Marino using American rapper in 2021)

Furthermore, most people who actually vote would want someone who is known mainly in their own borders and not a mega-star to showcase their state, at least that is something people in my country see

Viewing the competition from a British perspective, I think we did very well. Politics usually seep into Eurovision, either intentionally or not, so seeing us do so good in a world post-Brexit is nice. I didn't watch Eurovision this year, but I did do it last year, so my only real exposure to live Eurovision was getting no points.

Of course, happy for Ukraine, even if the result was going to be obvious given recent events. Hope the conflict gets solved in time for them to host.

That's because the British are the only ones that care about Brexit in the Eurovision context. I sure hope that this result finally shuts up those annoying whines, but I don't hold that much hope. Another bad result and they will go back to the common argument that they only do bad because Europe hates them.
