Gen Z is usually dated 1997-2012-ish, so it would be unlikely that you weren't.

  2. which is to be contrasted with the apathetic treatment of the subject in the US
  3. leading to the conclusion that the US has a "mature" political culture whereas NZ has an "immature" one

  6. also, if you're a Republican you might treat the subpoena as being analogous to Charles I's attempt to arrest several MPs (on dubious grounds)

Two more measures today:

Colorado: The fifth measure would create a new Healthy School Meals for All Programme. This programme would reimburse schools for free meals to students who otherwise don't qualify for federal free lunches, authorise additional food funding for schools, and give grants to schools who purchase food from local businesses or distributors. To pay the $100.7 million annual price tag, the current income tax deduction cap would be dropped drastically, from $30,000 to $12,000 for single filers and from $60,000 to $16,000 for joint filers. The income threshold for where the caps apply would also go down from $400,000 to $300,000.

The sixth measure would require any future ballot initatives that raise or lower state income taxes to include a table showing what those changes mean, on average, for different income brackets.

McCormick’s platform is that China is bad. basically he’s an interventionist. he has other beliefs, but they’re basically just standard Republican policies and they kinda take the back seat.

Barnette’s platform is rather long. basically:
- CRT bad
- Healthcare is okay, but is too extensive and should be a state thing
- Bodily autonomy is cool except when it’s abortion. this probably means no vaccine mandates or whatever, I guess
Surprisingly good polling performance considering lack of campaign funding. Trump told everyone not to vote for her though, so that’s that.

Oz’s (“Oz’”??) platform is that Trump endorsed him and also he’s Dr. Oz.

Oz’z platform is that he can solve America’s problems with this one weird trick, and a 10-day diet and exercise plan.

BTW I’m new to the American Politics thread, I might be posting here occasionally just to check up on stuff, get a variety of opinions, and in general shake my head in disbelief at the state of things.

Got it. Alright now it all makes sense. So, what you're saying than is that the US Political System is actually immature since there's an open and active debate on whether politicians are subject to the rule of law? I do actually agree with that. Our system is certainly not a great one, especially holding anyone accountable.

And oh yes, I can see how Republicans can make that distinction though I will say the major difference is of course that there are legit reasons for these subpoenas against these five members of Congress. As for King Charles I, let's say that ended very badly for him...

If we can get him there, sure, we can call it that. I suspect if the courts rule in a timely manner and force them to comply, they will show but will plead the 5th.

This isn't quite the same thing. A closer analogy would be Parliament trying to arrest some of its own members.

Did anyone see that Hannity did a hit piece on Barnette. Who wants to bet he got a call from Trump telling them to stop her momentum.

If Joe Manchin doesn’t back this bill, he doesn’t give a fuck about coal miners, and he is a fucking liar and a fucking fake.

A lot of hard right conservatives are pissed off at Trump for backing Oz. He is seen as a Hollywood elite and out of touch with the working class.

It's Trump's vanity that led to the endorsement. He likes to endorse celebrities of some kind whenever possible.
