Cabo Azure National Football Team "Las Maçaricas"

Over the course of the past two and a half cycles, the Maçaricas have climbed steadily from overperforming minnows to a solid mid-table team. Though they are capable of both upsetting and being upset themselves, the team from the small archipelago in southeast Rushmore is generally expected to defeat minnows, lose respectably to the big dogs, and provide exciting games against their fellow middling competitors.

The team has evolved in that time from a team of veterans from the Liga Hidalgo Primer to incorporate the new generation of younger, foreign-based players. The retirement of Adalberto Montenegro at the end of the WC90 cycle prompted a change to a more transitional lineup, but the emergence of young stars abroad, including Nicodemo Corte-Real at Corn Palace and Cleto Silveira at Tikariot City, provides coach Paulinho with a bevy of options, including one, two, or three forwards across the front.

Tactics
The Maçaricas can be expected to play an attacking-focused game, with a compact defense and midfield and fullbacks bombing to join the attack wherever possible. Defensively, they will run an offside trap which relies heavily on the center backs to close on attackers and the midfield to disrupt.

The nascent starting goalkeeper, Gomez has come into his own since moving to Mytanija. Tall, athletic, and with a developing sense of position and presence on the pitch, Gomez looks to be a fixture of this team for years to come.

GK-Rufino Antunes-30-Lagostim
Previously a stopgap starter, Antunes remains a serviceable backup as he is tested week in and week out by the best strikers in the aggressive, physical Liga Hidalgo Primer.

GK-Gilberto Valente-26-Portelo
Lithe and quick, but prone to overcommitting. Has the physical tools to start, but his decision-making continues to hold him back even as he is no longer a young player.

GK-Túlio Batista-28-Sao Cristobal
One of several interchangeable domestic goalkeepers. Unlikely to see the pitch except in extreme cases of fixture congestion or injuries.

Defenders
RB-Amilcar Branco-24-Dhun Lagarr FC (TKT)
The Maçaricas’ undisputed starting right back, and one of its best players. A pacy fullback with the speed and skill to contribute on offense.

LB-Ademar de Lima-22-Sao Vicente
Originally a carbon copy of Branco, the left back de jure has evolved into more of a stay-at-home fullback than his counterpart, though he is no slouch going forward.

FB-Marcelinho Costa-22-Regium Immortum (OAM)
Though he lacks the panache of his peers, years of fierce competition in Oberour Ar Moro has sculpted Costa into a tough-tackling, canny fullback who makes smart passes up field and terrorizes attackers in his own third.

FB-Norberto Carneiro-28-Villa Silva
Like Costa, a good fullback who simply does not live up to the level of de Lima and Branco. A touch slower than his peers and unlikely to get faster, Carneiro is nevertheless one of the best fullbacks in the LHP and always puts in a shift when called upon.

FB-Lino Valente-20-Natal
One of a few standouts from an otherwise unremarkable side in the Rushmori U20s this summer, Valente leveraged his play there into a contract with first-division side Natal. His performance in the top flight, as well as in the upcoming Di Bradini Cup, will help Paulinho place young Valente in a crowded field of fullbacks.

FB-Olavo Garcia-22-Pemba
A late bloomer who’s played a crucial, if understated, role in Pemba’s recent league successes. An unusual Azurean fullback in that he is a defender first and foremost, Garcia may see minutes as a defensive sub in critical games.

CB-Adão Moniz-23-Reschensreppur (GRF)
An agile, harrying centerback making his way in a league dominated by “Big F*cking Grantfjallers”, Moniz has found some consistency in the previous season that may see him become a bigger factor for the Maçaricas.

CB-Deodato Medeiro-24-Marine Coast United (VIL)
Despite not having the size or bruising physique that Azureans generally prefer in their centerbacks, Medeiro has exceeded all expectations playing in the top flight of Villita, finding himself in conversation for end-of-season awards. A locked-in starter for qualifying.

CB-Kevin Brandão-26 -Villa Arboles
The proverbial last domestic centerback standing, Kevin is a consistent presence in front of goal, though he is notably weak in set pieces on both sides of the ball. Will likely see some minutes in relief, particularly in defensive situations.

CB-Donato Brandão-21-SC Lagos (BOL)
More skilful than his brother, but with none of the size or physicality, Donato is nevertheless a similarly situational sub who, despite playing abroad, has failed to live up to the high standards set by Medeiro and Moniz.

CB-Jaime Carreira-28-Cidade de Prata
One of the best centerbacks in the Liga Hidalgo Primer, a league that is the darling of highlight reels for the number of amazing, ridiculous, otherworldly goals it seems to produce week in and week out.

CB-Nelson Câmara-27-Lagostim
The tallest player on the team at six-four, and one of the tallest in Cabo Azure, Nelson is likely a situational sub for late-game situations where his height and proclivity for scoring with his head will make up for relative ineptitude in front of goal.

Midfielders
CM-Narciso Maciel-22-Colonial Sile (VIL)
Along with Medeiro, one of two young Azurean players to take root in the Vilitan top tier. A composed, intelligent player with great distribution and off-ball movement. A true general to anchor the midfield.

LM-Marciano Ferreira-27-Sao Cristobal
Still among the fastest players on the pitch, Ferreira’s ball control and distribution have not developed the way many hoped, possibly because of his situation at Sao Cristobal, where he is expected to be the one to get the ball into the box on almost every possession.

RM-Seth Rathbone-19-Portelo
Playing with a notable chip on his shoulder after being snubbed repeatedly by overseas clubs, Rathbone has returned to Portelo on yet another yearlong contract after establishing himself as an every-game starter. Is skillful enough to see the field for the Maçaricas, but needs to get out of his own way.

CM-Marco Lobo-21-Villa Silva
A U21 standout, Lobo is an established starter at one of the most sophisticated clubs in Cabo Azure.

AM-Nataniel Reis-29-Pemba
Still an agile, instinctive player with a nose for goals and assists, Reis struggles to provide the defensive cover and distribution expected of a midfielder while lacking the holdup play and finishing to be a true striker. Nevertheless, a good all-round offensive player who may start on a rotational basis or see minutes as an offensive sub.

AM-Rolando Florencio-20-Sao Vicente
The youngest starter on an experienced squad for Os Pastorzinhos, Florencio is a good all-round box-to-box midfielder, without any strengths or weaknesses that stand out.

MF-Raul Gonsalves-22-FC Aursback (BRO)
A fringe player who will likely see callups primarily when fixture congestion or injury preclude core players from coming into camp.

MF-Lucas Barbosa-26-Natal
Fast, alert, and equally capable with both feet, Barbosa is the kind of guy who looked like a future star coming up but ultimately fell short of his potential. Still can slot in anywhere in the midfield and put in a shift, so likely to see the field in this cycle at some point.

AM-Bento Cunha-21-Perolas
A fast, aggressive attacker who has yet to develop beyond his physical gift but lacks the finishing to be a target forward, or really any kind of forward.

DM-Ulisses de Sá-20-Portelo
An every-match starter on a Safari team which missed promotion by one point of goal difference, de Sa traded the second division for Portelo, where he has continued to develop into his physical gifts. A strong tackler, but lacking in distribution.

MF-Joel Silvestre-24-Villa Arboles
The elder brother of U21 and senior callup Roberto, Joel has been on the longlist for the Maçaricas on multiple occasions, but any callup he receives this cycle will be his first.

MF-Casimiro Torres-25-Sao Vicente
A midfielder with a little too much ability and potential to truly be considered a journeyman, Torres is nevertheless a longshot to see the field in qualifying.

Forwards

A hardworking, clever player who does many things well, Silveira has quietly grown into one of the best players on the roster, and a must-start for games that need to be won.

Tried-and-true, jack-of-all-trades, and numerous other hyphenated adjectives describe Dantas, who has played nearly every outfield position for club and country and looks to add another cycle to his belt.

FW-Nelson Botehlo-27-Villa Arboles
As a tall center forward who is primarily a goal-scoring machine for Os Machados, Botehlo has struggled to fit into the lineup, but always contributes when he is called upon.

FW-Vasco Gouveia-22-Tikariot City FC (TKT)
One-half of Os Dos Vascos, thought to be the future of the Azurean attack, Gouveia faces criticism that his statistics are padded by meaningless games, but none can deny his ability to score goals at a high level.

FW-Arsenio Galma-27-Pemba
A surprise inclusion in the CR40 roster, Galma performed well enough there, coupled with the relative success of Pemba in recent seasons, to be included in the roster the qualifiers. A good all-round striker, though somewhat lacking in pace.

FW-Nicodemo Corte-Real-20-Corn Palace (SFD)
Probably the biggest surprise of the international era of Azurean football, Corte-Real has emerged as a star in Sanford, leading Corn Palace to their second championship there. How he fits into the national team remains to be seen.

RW-Estavao Fonseca-21-Carathyr Emeralds (TKT)
A young Azurean who went abroad to Tikariot at the same time as Gouveia, Silveira, and Branco, but to date remains uncapped. A quick winger with the ability to invert.

Montesina is a small republic in ~~western South America~~ Anaia, a country of beautiful beaches with crystal clear water and snowy mountain ranges. Its national colours, wine and gold, reflect the great historical tradition of the country's land in wine production and mining. ~~Today, the country is a neo-liberal hellhole where inflation is at an all-time high and the poorest people suffer from high prices, thanks to the ruling ProtoDictator, José Martínez Ubiña.~~ Montesina is a growing country, thanks to its great economic potential and the work of its brilliant citizens. President José Martínez Ubiña is a strong leader leading the country on a path of progress. The country's main cities are Sán Bertrán, which is the capital, San Martín, which is part of the former's conurbation, Nueva Vizcaya, which is further north and is renowned ~~for being taken over by drug cartels~~ for its warm water beaches, and Iturralde, further south but still on the coast. The interior ~~is virtually ignored by the government, except when corrupt bureaucrats want to buy votes for Ubiña and his allies~~ is the country's major production centre, and towns like Guayama, Molinos and Mandarinas are large swathes of land ruled by corrupt oligarchies who hold the financial power are major wine producers for export. In the mountains, ~~gold mining destroys the environment and causes ecological damage, as the government insists on obtaining minimal amounts from exhausted veins, receiving environmental sanctions from all sides,~~ we're no longer experiencing a golden moment, and so the government works on the environmental recovery of the areas affected by mining while seeking new alternatives.

Football is the national sport of Montesina and it has been used by the government to deceive the population this World Cup season. Just look at how the elites are taking advantage by selling outdated products at low prices such as "World Cup Special Promotion" "Baptism of Fire Sale" brings dreams to the hard-working people of the nation. The country has a Football League, which is expected to join the international scene in the next IFCF and some players have achieved success playing outside the country. President Ubiña, who is one of the sponsors of "La Liga Collíbrie" hopes that ~~these incompetents will continue to be a smokescreen for the people to ignore the corruption in the country~~ the players will represent their country well, and that they will be sold soon to teams of other countries,~~after all the more football, the less the people want political rights,~~ to take the name of Montesina to the whole world.

10 Ricardo González FW La Unión Ricky Gonzalez is the number 10, the team's maestro, with his astounding dribbling skills and deadly shots. At 27 years of age, he is the guy that kids want to be. He is dating Lara Mellita, a famous singer in Montesina and has his own clothing line.
11 Mario Lopez MF Atlético San Beltrán A left-sided midfielder and owner of an extremely strong kick, he is a footballer and, curiously, also competes in road cycling events.
12 Matias García DF Siete de Abril García is literally the 12th player in this squad. When Medrano wants more speed, he removes a midfielder and places García at right-back, turning the 3-5-2 into a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, depending on Madero's position.

An avowed fan of the #1, who has made no secret of his admiration for his idol, De la Hoya has started practising penalty kicks under the influence of him.
14 Tomás Montero DF Universitario A young defender with good performances in La Liga, he could learn a lot. But as the captain's substitute, he is likely to get little time on the pitch.
15 Sebastian Frías DF La Unión "Feo", as he is called because of his hair, is a left-footed defender with enviable agility. He commits few fouls and if given the opportunity, he will fight for the position with Molinos.

As an independent nation, Wreckeria does not exist anymore, having been absorbed into the Dominion of Hapilopper. But good luck telling the Independent Wreckerian Athletes or the fans of Wreckerian football that. Last year, Wreckeria had its best campaign ever, even as the nation was in the midst of falling apart, even as the government was in the midst of defaulting on its debts and allowing itself to be absorbed into the neighboring land of Hapilopper. But the Wreckerian National Football Team provided Wreckerians with hope. At one point, Wreckeria led their group and it seemed like they had a very reasonable shot at qualifying for their first World Cup ever, 60 years after the first Wreckerian team entered amidst the outbreak of war. This year, Wreckeria hopes to build off that success and maybe give their people something to celebrate about.

As part of the rebuilding process for Halsted and the rest of Wreckeria in the aftermath of unification, a new stadium has been constructed for the Wreckerians. Unification Stadium, located just south of downtown Halsted, replaces the old Patrick Stadium and will serve as a "national" stadium for the Wreckerian people. It is a multi-purpose concrete donut stadium, the first of its type built in Wreckeria or Hapilopper since the 1980s, and is expected to house an expansion NLH baseball team and expansion HFA soccer club. He has a charity, "Marlowe for Wreckeria" which tries to enrich the lives of Wreckerian children with a better education than what they currently receive. Marlowe has vowed to be a part of whatever rebuilding campaign asked of him in the aftermath of Wreckerian consolidation.

Hapiloppians and Wreckerians alike have become very familiar with the name "Huey Hooper" in the last year, both for the Wreckerian national team and with the Hapilopper City Highway Patrol. Part of it is the athletic defending. Part of it is the wild physical style of play that Hapiloppians have fallen in love with. Another part of it is his willingness to do what it takes to stop that goal-scoring effort, but not go too far like certain other footballers. What he is, is a ballplayer that is hellbent on getting under the skin of his opponents, and even more hellbent on driving his teammates to be the best they can be. How effective he is at it, though, remains to be seen.

Recently, a popular Hapiloppian footballer was asked to describe certain footballers for a television interview. When he was asked to describe Clive Carson, he couldn't do it without using expletives. It's not as if Clive Carson is a jerk or an antisocial prick like some footballers. He's actually a really nice guy off the pitch and an absolute genius. But on the pitch, he could be, quite possibly the most annoying player in football in either Hapilopper or Wreckeria. Clive is among the best at getting on the nerves of both his opponents and, on occasion, his own teammates. Several players have remarked hearing Clive making incredibly annoying noises to them when having to face off against him. These noises, said one Hapiloppian player, resemble the sound of a small dog yapping away. But he has his purposes with these noises - to both rob his opponents of their concentration, to throw them off their game and to get under their skin. And it works. Two years ago, he got the usually-unflappable Toby Bryson of Soldiers so angry that Toby forgot where he was and punched him out. Toby got a red card and a three-match suspension. Clive got a black eye and the last laugh.

Quickly becoming one of the more popular footballers in Hapilopper possibly for all the wrong reasons, Max Crisp is known just as much for his prowess on dirt tracks across the nation, driving the little midget cars when it's not football season. Fans love his balls-to-the-wall style of racing, ripping the outside line as he makes his way to the lead. But it doesn't always work, and that's what makes his coaches uneasy. Crisp is known just as much for his wild, spectacular crashes as he is winning races. Just weeks before the group draw, Crisp hit a rut racing on a dirt track at North Hampton, sending the car airborne and over the catch fence. His car ended up smashing into a fan's pickup truck.

There are players that truly believe that if you're not getting into card trouble, you're not trying hard enough. We bring this up because Darrell Stacey is absolutely one of those players. As a midfielder - more specifically, a hybrid midfielder/defenseman, Darrell has no qualms about going a little too far in his quest to stop the other team from scoring. Not on the level of Nathan Ellis suplexing a striker onto a solid surface, but close. Fans in Pinkerton have fallen in love with Darrell's no-nonsense style of play that can turn a soccer match into a bar fight very quickly.

#6 - BISCUIT GILBERT | Midfielder | Age: 29 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @biscuit | Club: Raceway FC
Style of Play: Defensive | Speed: Medium | Physicality: As Needed | Attitude: Goofball

Uh-oh, Biscuit's put on some weight! It was once implied that Biscuit Gilbert, the heart and soul of the Wreckerian midfield, was "a biscuit away from 250." Now, he's vaulted far past that and might be closer to a biscuit away from 300. No matter, he can still carry that huge frame of his up and down the pitch for 90 minutes, so it's not really much of a problem. Biscuit may be Wreckeria's most popular footballer due to what kind of person he is. He does what he likes to do, to hell with what everyone else thinks. His singing voice is terrible, but he's a regular at the karaoke bars in the Buckridge area. He's entered a couple of high profile hot dog eating contests, including one nationally-televised event that was marred by Biscuit showing all the world why the Hapilopper Television Network uses super-slow motion cameras for these events. But he didn't mind. Biscuit Gilbert's mantra is "enjoy the moment."

The face of Wreckerian footballers everywhere, Sigmund Justice, known as "Sig", is a dominating presence in the Wreckerian midfield, and a great offensive threat, either by feeding the ball to his strikers or by pulling his own card and going for goal. Last season with Soldiers, Sig scored 22 goals, leading the HFA for midfielder goals. There are some questions over Sig's health, as he is starting to battle knee issues. Rough opposing players might want to keep this in mind. Away from the pitch, Sig enjoys playing beer league softball with a group of friends from the Center Street Pub.

#8 - BOBBY BELCHER | Midfielder | Age: 23 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @bob_the_belcher | Club: West River FC

In the future, you probably will hear more about Bobby Belcher, a midfielder that pundits have called "the most professional player in the HFA." You will hear of him as a stalwart in the midfield for West River FC, that's for sure. He's a great player, scoring 11 goals last season for West River, but the biggest criticism of him is that he doesn't get physical enough out on the pitch. He doesn't get out there and put his body on the line, he doesn't get into card trouble, he doesn't get into fights, he doesn't cheap-shot his opponents and he doesn't play with a target on his back. But that might be the point. His quiet style of play keeps him out of trouble and in the good graces of his team, who have thought about making him more of a striking forward than just a midfielder delivering the ball to his forwards.

Gary Bronson is a master of deception. So it shouldn't surprise you that he's a really good poker player, and really good at a certain video game where you play an impostor. Either way, Bronson has mastered the art of the "False Nine", playing havoc with opposing defenses and turning a tough situation into one very advantageous to himself and his teammates. That sort of play has also netted him a lot of goals - 24 last year in the HFA, to be exact. Away from the pitch, Bronson is, interestingly enough, a TV game show enthusiast, and is seen watching the Hapiloppian game show "The Family Fight" every night, a show that has recently enjoyed a resurgence thanks to its newest host, John Perkins.

#10 - DAVID MARLIN | Center Forward | Age: 20 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @marliner | Club: Hapilopper City Highway Patrol

The youngest player on the Wreckerian Bulldogs, David Marlin is also one of the most exciting players, taking after his childhood hero, Hapiloppian striker Ernie Stevenson. Just watch him with the ball for five seconds and you'll see how he takes after him. He pulls off incredible move after incredible move, and scores wild difficult goals. One of them got the Wreckerians going early on in the World Cup 90 campaign with an imitation of one of Ernie's famous "hop-skip-holy shit" goals, and he has served, just as much of a morale booster as anything, to the Wreckerian people. Last year, he scored 31 goals in the HFA and helped propel the Highway Patrol to 2nd in the championship. Marlin is one of the most excitable members of the Wreckerian squad, and is said to be up at 5 a.m. every morning, ready to go out and kick some ass.

Gordon Sheppard, better known as Gord, is one of those players that is more interested in going out, doing his job and going home. He's not a clubhouse cancer by any means, so let's get that out of the way. But he also doesn't have any interest in spending any more time with his teammates, or with the media, or with the fans, than he needs to. He'd rather go home, do his own thing, and not be bothered. When reporters try asking him questions, they're greeted with typical, short, one-word responses. It's rare that he'll open up to people, and it takes some doing. All he wants to do is go out there and win football matches. The rest is just window dressing. He'd rather go home and work on his backyard, and specifically his garden, and believe it or not, Gord might be the best gardener in all of Wreckerian or Hapiloppian football. He's a damn fanatic!

The first time Jacob Sutton walked into the United Hampton Cities locker room, the first thing he did was install a hammock. It annoyed the hell out his teammates and his coaches at first, but after a little bit of time, they realized that this guy had the right idea. He could go into a match relaxed and loose and get the job done. He could focus himself with some music, a drink with an umbrella in it, and then go out there and take an offender down. Was it unorthodox? Yes. But very few things in Hapilopper or Wreckeria are done in an orthodox manner. Away from the pitch, Jacob does about the same thing. He can be seen in his apartment in East Hampton, relaxing, watching old movies and drinking those refreshing beverages with umbrellas in them.

Sports stars have their own quirks. Tim Kimball is certainly one of them. The lead defenseman for the HFA expansion side The Halsted Heat, Kimball is known for his love of syrup. After pulling what he calls a "pancake" tackle on an offensive player, Kimball will rush out to the sideline and take a shot of pancake syrup, straight from the bottle, fed to him by one of his coaches. Is it disgusting? Absolutely it is. Does he care? Absolutely not. He does what makes him happy and to hell with what everyone else thinks. Either way, he does it and he has every intention of keeping up with this tradition should he get playing time during the World Cup 91 campaign.

No matter how good of a ballplayer poor David Wilner may be, the sad thing about him is that he will always have the unfortunate distinction as one of the clumsiest ballplayers in all of Hapilopper or Wreckeria. See, the problem is, two years ago, Wilner accidentally tested the structural integrity of the goalposts in a match between Peoria and Soldiers at Capital Stadium, and while the structural integrity of the goalposts more than held up, the structural integrity of Wilner's face did not, as he crashed face-first into the post. This isn't the only time this has happened. There are rumors of an incident where Wilner was thrown out of a Peoria laundromat after inadvertently flooding the place when he opened up a washing machine prematurely, and one time where he may or may not have accidentally spilled a pitcher of sports drink all over the head coach of Peoria FC. Poor dude.

In this world, certain people brighten your day in certain ways. Some brighten your day by their mere presence. Others brighten your day by going away. We can't understand how anyone would have their day brightened by seeing the always sunshiny face of Dean Norman, one of the biggest punks in Hapiloppian or Wreckerian sport. He was banned from twii.tur for some grossly offensive remarks made towards fans and other players. Teammates call him a "jackass." He glares at fans wanting his autograph. He's a dirty player on the pitch, almost as much so as Hapilopper's Nathan Ellis. But what sets Dean Norman apart from Nathan Ellis is Nathan is said to be a very nice person away from the pitch, fighting for his teammates. Dean fights for himself. Any charity he'd set up would be to ensure he got more money.

#25 - TRAVIS JARVIS | Offensive Midfielder | Age: 21 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @trav-jarvis | Club: United Hampton Cities

Travis Jarvis, one of several new additions to the Independent Wreckerian Athletes, doesn't talk much. He doesn't socialize a lot, he doesn't talk to the media that much, and he doesn't converse with fans that much. He just comes across as a very sad individual, someone who has recently dealt with loss, and that very well may be true. A look on his twii.tur account has seen a once-excitable, happy-go-lucky Wreckerian midfielder deal with a very bad breakup from his high school sweetheart. Wreckerian coaches are concerned over how this will impact his ability to play ball - which, it should be worth noting, is a tremendous ability. Jarvis is said to be one of the top Wreckerian players for the future and could lead the Wreckerian midfield to World Cups in the future, if he can just get over his girlfriend breaking up with him.

Jerry Keen is one of several younger Wreckerian ballplayers that have Wreckerians everywhere thankful for the future. Here's why. While Keen is thought to be "not quite ready" to start on the national team, the truth of the matter is that he's almost there. He's almost at a level that he could start as a Wreckerian forward in years to come. And he's forcing himself along the way, too, to the delight of his coaches and the fans, and to the occasional consternation his friends. Keen lives, breathes, eats and sleeps football. He's set up a full-motion simulator in his Halsted house to allow him to practice further, even as his team is done for the night. He's said to have been practicing tactics until five in the morning. Anything to become one of the world's elite.

#27 - MICKEY KEEGAN | Winger | Age: 24 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @kickinkeegan | Club: Peoria FC

The thing that Wreckerian experts will have you believe about Mickey Keegan is that he's possibly a little too nice to be a Wreckerian footballer. That he doesn't come across as a footballer. He drives a minivan, listens to showtunes and plays video games all the time. But the fact is, Keegan is not half bad at what he does. With Peoria FC, Keegan scored 19 goals last season and offered up another 20 assists, being more than happy to play a supporting role to feed their lead striker the ball. Away from the pitch, Keegan is said to also be a major chicken tender enthusiast. We didn't know they existed, but Mickey Keegan sure calls himself one - saying he can't play football without "enjoying my tendies first." Yeah, there's your typical footballer.

#30 - CAREY ATWATER | Goalkeeper | Age: 30 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @careythekeeper | Club: Washington FC
Style of Play: Sweeper Keeper | Speed: Slow | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Professional

Carey The Keeper, a favorite in the Washington area of Hapilopper for his friendly attitude in the community, is the sole backup on the Wreckerian national team, and one of a few Wreckerian players that remain from its World Cup 84 and 85 squads. With the Washington FC squad, Atwater averages one goal per 80 minutes of play, and while the team is not usually a highly-regarded squad in the HFA, it's not because of him. The fans in Washington know this, and consequently any heat towards the squad is not generally directed his way. Away from the pitch, Atwater likes to be involved in the campaigns to rebuild Wreckeria from the devastation brought on by the 54-year Civil War and the subsquent fighting afterwards.

TROLLEBORG NATIONAL TEAM

NATIONAL TEAM

With the departure of the whole butch of the players who made great contribution to the successes of the national team in the previous seven years, the second generation of Trolleborg players in international football will be in the majority in this tournament for the first time. The beginning of their performances fell on a series of great performances, but the continuation came out completely unencouraging. It is not yet clear whether the newcomers will be able to maintain the reputation of Trolleborg football, especially while starting World Cup Qualification from the third pot. The head coach has built several successful teams in his career, he is famous precisely for that, and it is why he was once chosen as the helmsman of the national team, great hopes are still placed on him, but we must remember that he also know taste of failures and that international football is a thing that both illogical and unfair.

Usually playing in green, sometimes in red, blue and green ones rarely used.

COACH

Morten Troghil, who recently celebrate his 58th birthday, is a manager of the team since its creation. Having three international titles to his name and succeed to bring our team at the World Cup twice, he has a god-like stature in Trolleborg, but it will be seen, if he decide to continue in his head coach capacity after tournament.

PLAYERS

Departure of several key players, the creators of many of the team's victories, very much worries the fans. The new players have enough skill and enthusiasm, but this, nevertheless, did not insure the team from offensive failures of recent years. Several places in the squad were left empty – obviously, the head coach intends to strengthen the team during the tournament with players who will show themselves well in the upcoming national championship.

GOALKEEPERS

Jesper Krogh (26 years). Very fast player who already prove himself on both league and international level, who prove himself good at the second floor, without losing something in his first floor game skills. He moved to the bench after uninspiring performances recently, but probably will play alternately с Finnsnes Soderhelm.
Finnsnes Soderhelm (31). Have amassed reputation as reliable, safe and competent goalkeeper. With a lot of experience behing him, he is great in handling things in his domain, always cool-headed even in the most difficult situations, while giving sense of security to his teammates. He step in while Krogh has breakdown, confidently enough played his part, but, unfortunately, did not much more.
Morten Kerr (26). When it was announced, that Kot Kotsson retired from national team permanently, general public spent a lot of time wondering who will be the third goalkeeper. It was believed that the head coach would leave this place vacant until the next national championship began, and would take the goalkeeper who would show himself best. But in the end, he made a choice now, in favor of younger brother of iconic forward Stuart Kerr. He played as number one in the first ever international tournaments in the Trolleborg history, U18 Cup in S&T, but only now can be seriously considered for a place in the first team. He is very skilful and intelligent player, but it was not quite clear, are this is enough for international games.

DEFENDERS

Kasper Wolters (31). He is right back by default, he is very strong, very fast despite advanced age, and absolutely in the game despite odds and score. In the past he substituted right midfielders and use his crossing skill to add something to the attacking might of the team, but right now prefer to concentrate on the defensive duties.
Jesper Loonstrup (26). Right back\winger, he is flank defender in the preferred Trolleborg style – fast moving, adept in supporting attacking moves, willingly throw himself in the way of the ball, aggressive in tackling. Probably, he will play RB in the games about teams that are lower in the table of KPB.
William Schendel (26). Versatile fast moving defender known for his skillful positioning and man-marking, highly effective in breaking opposition attacks, great in the heading, with incredible high crosses-interception rate. But his performance in the last tournaments is not inspiring at all.
Ceel Kolding (26). He was known as a “Wall”, because it’s extremely difficult to move into the box past him. Another player who have his first taste of international sport at U18 tournament eight years old, he right now counted on as substitution for retired Torgeir Dushegub, but latter have a real big boots, filling them is a work of considerable difficulty.
Aien Troger (32). This strongly build defender have a lot of experience and extremely good in tackling, it’s very challenging to move into the box past him and he made life extremely difficult for the many famed forwards on the international scene.
Joran Du Riis (28). Cold-blooded fighter prove that he more than capable holding his own at the highest level. Agile and fast-moving, but solidly builded and used this for his advantage, he play with composure and responsibility.
Rekdal Lundstram (28). Comfortably carries his defensive duties, tenacious fighter and excellent ball winner also good passer, which was allowed him joined attacks productively and adding depth on the left flank. It will be seen, if he is up to the task of fulfilling role of left defender in the international games.
Joos Haankrands (25). Left defender, agile and fast, he has many things to be the first-rate star on his position in the years to come. But everyone agrees, that he need to put serious efforts to eliminate his shortcomings and assure his temper will not influence performance on the field.

MIDFIELDERS

Jesper Gronholm (28). Recent addition to the team, but already have a spot at the lineup, he was comfortable down the right flank as either defender or midfielder. Competenly hold his own while in defence, he was willingly join any move forward, where he pass ball quickly and thoughtfully, already prove this in the recent games.
Torstein Halst (25). Right winger\forward, with a good passing, master of highly accurate long crosses and very well making in curved shots from outside the box. Willingness to fight for every ball, spare no effort, and, most importantly, improve his skills is what give this player a chance to play for national team and he make some great performances – but not enough to earn full-time spot in the lineup.
Martijn Knopper (26). Untiring worker, capable of both to fight for the ball and bring it forward fast and precise, this player can be either defensive midfielder, anchor or central midfielder.
Hendrick Groningen (33). The defensive midfielder, probably the best in his generation, he was not selected to play in BoF and joined team by way, proved himself worthy of a place in the team, caused a lot of problems to the attacking players of the opposing teams. His talent of intercepting ball in the middle and using every possibility to begin attacks was fully appreciated by everyone – apart, probably, of his opponents. With the age advanced on him, he nevertheless remains a tough opponent for even best world players.
Soren Wittingem (26). Strong player who can run incessantly whole 90 minutes, distributes ball well due to his great passing ability and perfect knowledge of game, and also shows considerable tenacity and real class at his duties as defensive midfielder, as it was extremely difficult to go past him.
Brutil Skrta (26). Very complete player, who posessed ability, stamina, flair, technique and resoluteness in just perfect mix. Shows tremendous accuracy when passing, fine distant shooting skills and ability to lost his markers. He make a real good debute at the IAC-14, and put some great game in the WC and CoH, but right now things looked like if he is not up to the task that coach have for him.
Kenneth Pathmoor (27). This central midfielder can cover a lot of space in the middle and with his pace, agility and an eye for goal he willingly can find net himself or conjure goal opportunity for his forwards.
Morten Troll (29). This excellent player will celebrate his 30th birthday soon. Genius of game, with a wonderful dribbling, beautiful technique, excellent pass and extremely good shot, he won many games for his local team single-handedly, but also a great team player with great repertoire of tricks. He brilliantly justified all the positive reviews even when team performance was rather uninspiring, sometimes won games single-handedly. But recenly his game is far short of usual brilliance, and it will be seen, if he returns to his best level.
Kasper Windass (26). Broad and strong left midfielder, he looked a little bit sluggish when moving without ball, but everything changes when he have it. Then he moved extremely fast, sweeping away everything in its path due to his mighty build and usually ended move with a clever pass.
Karsten Gould (25). This versatile midfielder can play as a left midfielder or forward if needed. But his passing much better than shooting skills.

FORWARDS

Kroonquist, Morten (26). Another addition to the team squad, this fast forward known for intensity of his game, and he is capable to maintain workrate in all 90 minutes. With enviable quickeness he moved very fast, turns very well, constantly pressurized rival defenders, with or without balls, and always trying winning back posession. He prove himself as a prolific goal scorer in recent tournament, but there was a doutbs, if he is up to the height that our team needed to won right now.
Torgeir Berglund (24). Effective center forward in front of goals, having something in common in both Kerr and Gulbranden despite their visible differences. He prove his goal-scoring talents in the national team, but was clearly not convincingly enough.
Torben Kranforde (25). Very fast forward, who have special ability to surprise rival defenders. He also posessed a great skill of positioning himself very well, and regularly sent many defenders and goalkeepers into despair with his precise and deadly shots from both feet. He prove himself prolific scorer at all recent tournaments team taking part of. But WCQ is very much different thing.
Halden Nordenfjord (25). Everyone expects, that head coach bring into the team someone in the Tom Gulbranden mould – big, strong, tall and awesome. This player conforms to the physical qualities of the retired forward, and he is very enthusiastic footballer, but it will be seen, how much he is adopted to the international football and his new teammates.

TEAM TACTICS AND GAME STYLE

Team always practiced attractive attacking game on a fast pace, with a varied passing and good teamwork and already its style well-known and liked by public. Usually played 4-4-2 with defenders pressed forward and flank midfielders join attacks whatever possible, or 3-5-2 with a midfielders move back and forth as things dictated. Integral and inalienable part of the team’s game will be mighty pressing, applied whatever on the field when ball is not on our side.

National psyche tell players to put everything even if odds are heavily against, so almost every match in the league played with high determination, and national team shirt oblige one who wore it for even more efforts – altought it was visible, that players often compeletely lose breath when unexpected setbacks occur. And this is precisely what happened in the recent tournaments.

Unsportsmanlike behavior is highly discouraged even if in the interests of the cause, and national team players are required to meet the highest standards possible, so it is completely impossible to imagine a player of the Trolleborg national team faking injury or begging for a penalty. It is expected that players who have a choice to fall and appeal for penalty and try to continue game choce latter without a doubts. But players are not easily bullied, though, and more than able to stand up for themselves both as individuals and as a team, and have a strong inclination to go tit-for-tat in case of excessive brutality on the opponent’s part. Refereeing in the last tournaments was sometimes substandard, and many players have developed habit to ask referees uncomfortable questions about their controversial decisions right on the spot.

Altought this stadium seen too much bitter defeats of our team recently, all tournament games will be played in the capital, Trolleborg City, on a “1th December” Stadium, which have capacity of 100000 spectators.

And due to that tickets to all games taken place here is always free. It’s located in the beautiful place – in the middle of a forested area on a peninsula protruding into the sea near the capital. Three stations of subway transport and stops of two bus routes located within two kilometers, and this allow fans arrive and leave stadium quickly and troubleless. Specially designed climate system provides around the stadium constant sunny weather with t +18C, with, maybe, occasional gusts of winds from the sea.

This is the official roster, featuring the Elite Eleven, an independent squad of Drawkians who have played all sports at a professional level for a confusingly long time. The old Kick Corps has been essentially removed, the players let go, and replaced by this squad of ridiculously skilled, annoyingly arrogant, and possibly immortal sportsmen. Nobody knows where they came from, or why DISC decided to replace the Kick Corps with them, but here they are. Just don't ask the baseball fans about them.
Drawkian soccer, and indeed, sporting in general, is mostly offensive-minded. This is reflected in the style indicator and in the formation. Drawkian soccer has not really been exposed to outside influences, and thus may look or feel strange to those used to "normal" football. Nevertheless, the Eleven are still good at what they do, and prize in an enduring game, moving the ball around nearly constantly and keeping energy going, aiming to tire out the opposing team. Of course, Drawkians aren't humans, but you can read about that elsewhere. Despite the fact that usually soccer is a female-only sport in Drawkland, the Elite Eleven have overturned that caveat as the higher-ups deemed them a suitable replacement in the interim as the real Kick Corps hides away for a few cycles and gets their shit back together.

Overview

The Pemecutan national football team (Pemecutan Malay: Tim Nasional Sepakbola Pemecutan) represents Pemecutan in international football competition. From its establishment the team is always comprises of all men players. It is governed by Pemecutan Football Association, the governing body of football in Pemecutan. It has never win any major international competition.

The team compete for the first time internationally at 3rd Melayu Archipelago Cup which was held in Eraman. They ended up finished 4th, defeated by Ziwana in third place final. Their participation in World Cup Cycle started at Baptism of Fire 76 where they ended in the Group Stage. In the 89th World Cup, the team manage to qualified for the first time where they were ended in Round of 16 after being defeated by Squidroidia. In the last edition, Pemecutan National Team success to reached World Cup final for the first. They were defeated by The Holy Empire by 1-2.

In regional level, the team have manage to reached Semifinal in 8 concecutive Melayu Archipelago Cup. From that, their best performance was during the 6th and 7th edition where they manage to finished as runner-up, defeated by Sharktail and Southern Palm Islands respectively. Their often surprised defeats from lower ranked or newcomer nations in the region makes them dubbed with Pemecutan Cursed.

Nickname

Giri Myna, the endemic bird of Pemecutan

During their earlier appearance, the team was coined as The Tridatu Team. The naming is based on the country's tricolor flag name. The name is gradually change after their XIV Summer Olympics appearance. The local media then use the name Si Jalak Putih or The White Myna to refer to the national team. The name then use widely and become the official nickname of the team.

Myna bird or Giri Myna is an endemic bird of the country that can only be found in Giri Island and its nearby islands. It is a protected animal and regard as the national animal of Pemecutan. The logo of Pemecutan Football Association is also using this bird image. While the Tridatu name have been drop off to refer to the team, but it is then adopted by their fans. The fans of Pemecutanian football name themselves as Laskar Tridatu or Tridatu Soldiers.

Kits

In their first international appearance, the team using black as the kit based color. This jersey was made by a local apparel company, Gringsing. The color use for the kit is inspired by Tridatu color, which is the national color of Pemecutan. It is believe that the color can give luck and protection for the user. After being stuck as semifinalist in regional competition, they decided to change the kit as a refreshment.

Agung&Arya Fashion was contacted by PFA officials to design the new kit for the national team. It is a huge challenge for the fashion house as they are never involve in sportswear before. The design they come up with is a simple black-white vertical stripes with white as the background color. They are also introducing the second jersey which use red as the basic color in also another stripes design. The third design that they made are for the goalkeeper. This time they use the combination of red and black.

And now, they're introduce another kits for the upcoming World Cup competition. UD. Sidartha is the one who design their new kits. The inspiration is the batik pattern of Pemecutanian local fabrics. Although the pattern use is not a literal pattern but have been change and modernized. The color choice is still the same, their national Tridatu colors. The home jersey use a white based color. Home Stadium

Pemecutan usually play their home matches at Tegeh Kori National Stadium located within the Tegeh Kori Sports Complex, Tegeh Kori District, Pemecutan Puri. The stadium is named after the first native kingdom that rise from the occupation of Sripala Kingdom. It is mostly use for football and athletics matches which has a seating capacity of 45,000 spectators. The final of 7th Melayu Archipelago Cup was held in this stadium. While during the I Games of the Melayu Olympiad, the stadium was use to hold the Archery event.

Just like the previous World Cup Qualifying Round, the PFA officials select 2 venues for the qualifying stage. The first is of course the main stadium, Tegeh Kori National Stadium. And the second is Manguwi Stadium which located in the city of Mengwi.

National Stadium

The National Stadium is the largest stadium in Sajnur, with a capacity of 102,000 people. Located in the capital city of Javoser, home to more than 12.5 million people, it is the primary arena for big sporting events in the country, hosting a semi-final and most finals of Sajnur’s FA Cup, and several finals of the Tarvolan League, tarvolan being a code of football indigenous to Sajnur and traditionally Sajnur’s biggest sport. Siyaka Island Stadium

Siyaka Island Stadium is the largest stadium in the Asulian states, with 66,000 people able to fit within its confines. Located in the outskirts of Tawqush, a city of about 5.4 million serving as the capital of Archipelago state, the stadium is the home of FC Mazigh, the foremost football club in the Asulian states. Fans on Siyaka Island often bring instruments to matches, ranging from the arghul to large drums to even accordions, posing both as support to those they like and a distraction for those who they wish to lose.

The stadium is the newest of the four national stadiums, being built in 2017 on what was the Mujar port before it was bombed by the Sajnuran navy during a war that stretched from 1990-2003. Roster comments: While the squad is really talented on paper, it has been quite lackluster in comparison to its glory days and has been permanently stuck in the middle of the pack. The city if Palaghast is located on the shoreline of Mon Sold and as such enjoys plentiful breezes. Given the country's naturally cooler climate, this can make visiting the stadium either a perfect or slightly chilly affair. Due to the lack of state-enthusiasm for organized sports and the stadium's older design, it lacks all modern luxuries such as a retractable roof or indoor air conditioning/heating. Palaghast itself one of the Grand Duchy's larger cities whose primary economy is the fishing industry, but has recently seen a downturn due to being impacted by Hurricane 422.

Soraghast is located further inland than Palaghast, but not quite to the mountainous northern reaches. It enjoys being a transit hub for larger cities situated around it and accommodates this by having a large distribution network of warehouses, heavy-haul cargo companies, and plenty of railroad junctions. The city lacks the sea-breeze of Palaghast, but temperatures rarely get very high preferring to stay in the upper 70s during summer and the lower 40s during winter.

Grand Duchess Magdalena Arena - Dreuxdire, Mon Sold
Capacity: 44,000
Situated in the mountainous north of the Grand Duchy, the city of Dreuxdire draws its economy from the careful exploitation of the coal, bauxite, limestone, and rare-earth minerals found in the region. This has made it a more working class town the metropolitan likes of Palaghast. The weather here is decidedly colder with temperature capable of reaching into the low 30s during the winter and barely making it into the high 60s during summer. Tourists will find plenty of accommodations in-line with the cities rich historic past as both a former military garrison and capital of the Grand Duchy.

Note from the Ministry of Athletic Advancement - All venues are required to maintain 15% of the seats in continuous area for the fans of the visiting team.

The Grand Duchy of Mon Sold (Tourists Brief)
Mon Sold is a decidedly different kind of nation-state, at least as far as its concerned. Visitors will be struck by its pristine environment with land development carefully managed, its skies and waters protected by regulations, and its economy decidedly inefficient and small compared to other powers. This has left Mon Sold behind the curve of many profit-minded nations, but this is entirely by design. The turmoil of the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s which nearly saw centuries of uninterrupted rule by the Grand Dukes comes to an end changed the entire outlook of the country who during and after worked to tend and maintain the countries uniquely quaint and slower culture. The economy was sacrificed and allowed to grow sluggish to the benefit of maintaining good working conditions, ensuring stable job markets, and providing a solid foundation for the common folk to be economically secure. A plethora of strategically-vital industries were nationalized which provide a number of basic necessities to the commoners. These reforms took the fire out of the revolutionary spirit and as since caused the collapse of socialist, communist, fascist, and progressive movements.

All of this has come at the cost of civil and political freedoms. The Grand Duke is the absolute authority of the executive branch who is helmed in only by the 1849 Constitution, and who permits the majority of menial governance to the popularly elected State Council, but maintains a final veto. Speaking out against the Grand Duke by foreigners is grounds for immediate investigation and subsequent deportation. Leftist or rightist rhetoric is tolerated amongst the populace but will not be tolerated by visitors who will once more be deported. Besides marijuana, all other drugs are banned. Visitors who partake in the culture of Mon Sold but do not attempt to interfere in its carefully manicured society will find nothing but smiles and respect waiting for them.

Also we like to burn leaves -- lots of 'em. Mon Sold is best described as perpetually-in-Fall, with the leaves brilliant shades of red, yellow, and brown. Small villages dot the smoky countryside where any number of local festivals take place, each eager to include newcomers. Its a quaint little place -- really.

THE TUMBRAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM
The Black Eagles

IMPORTANT OOC NOTE: For all intents and purposes, this Tumbra that began contesting in WCQ87 is an entirely new nation. They have no recollection of their earlier exploits from WC70-80, because that simply didn't exist for this Tumbra. Any and all similarities to the nation of the similar name can and should be construed as glitches in the Multiverse. You may, however, make muted references to "having done this before" or something. For a detailed explanation of how this came to be, read these RPs.

The Tumbran National Football Team is Tumbra's main representative in all association football competitions for national associations. Making its debut at the 87th World Cup Qualifiers, the team currently ranks 12th in the world. The team is controlled by the Tumbran Football Federation, which is also the governing body of football in Tumbra. Also known as the Black Eagles, or affectionately the Eagles, the team competes in the World Cup and its related competitions. The team also participates in the Campionato Esportiva, also sends teams to the Di Bradini Cup for Under-21s, and the Under-18 World Cup. The team have won the 51st edition of the former tournament and the 13th edition of the latter tournament; which has placed a lot of faith in the youth. With a loyal travelling contingent of supporters known as the Black Army, the Tumbran national team's support will be on display throughout this tournament, with lots of tifos and loud cheers expected throughout matches.

The Black Eagles return, ranked 12th in the world, and looking for their third successive qualification; but it won't be easy. With names such as Zwangzug, Adab and Ceni in their way, the Eagles' path to qualification is arguably easier — but as the top seed, they've got a target on their backs.

The Manager

Yuan, 60, managed the Yuezhou Dragons in their debut cycle in the World Cup, finishing a miraculous third as a ninth seed, beating countries like Northwest Kalactin and Eraman — before bringing Yuezhou to the quarterfinals of the Copa Rushmori 36. A difficult start to the World Cup 87 cycle saw him lose his job, however. Slated to take on the job at AC Valanari, visa issues meant he was never able to take on the job — and was a free agent until the approach from the national team to replace the recently-departed Marco Hemmings. Prior to his foray in international football, he also served as a coach for WNS Nangang. Since joining the Tumbran national football team, he has brought it to great success; qualifying for the World Cup in both cycles he's been with the country now, reaching the Quarter-Finals on the latest occasion; and a regional title, to boot.

Touted as a defensive manager, Yuan chose to set the Dragons up with five defenders during his time with them; but has already indicated his preference for playing with four at the back in Tumbra. Utilising an aggressive midfield press, the Black Eagles fall into a 5-4-1 in defence, with the defensive midfielder dropping back to provide an extra man in defence. With the ball, it's fast, one-touch counterattacking; constant running is the name of the game here.

Tumbra's largest stadium by far and home to Straton Football Club, the National Stadium is an impressively tall concrete colosseum that forms a part of the Straton skyline itself. As the name suggests, it's also the home to the Tumbran national football team; but it's also showing its age with newer stadiums showing how outdated the National Stadium is. It still does have all the trappings of a modern stadium; undersoil heating, comfortable executive boxes, etc., but...it just feels a little old. An extensive reconstruction plan is in the works, but debate over who should fund it has essentially let the programme ground to a halt. The atmosphere here is still incredible, however; even in the middle of winter.

MD8: vs Ceni @ Serrapince Park, Serrapince (capacity: 74,500)

The distinctive yellow pylons on the roof provide this stadium with its exterior. Completed in the 1970s as the capstone of Serrapince's project to monopolise the football market in the area, it now provides one of the most intimidating atmospheres in Tumbran football, with the northern stand being home to Serrapince's "ultras". Located in a giant athletics and sporting complex, Serrapince Park forms the main part of the sporting district of the city; and remains the focal point of the club's attempts to dominate the Tumbran football scene.

MD10: vs Eshialand @ the Bencoolen City Stadium, Bencoolen (capacity: 55,000)

Surprisingly, nine-time Tumbran champions Kingsbury play out of a 39,000 capacity stadium. The stadium itself has been rebuilt multiple times, going from a bowl-shaped stadium in a natural valley to a much smaller, almost entirely white stadium with a curving roof; instantly giving the stadium a recognisable facade. Whether it's too small for Kingsbury remains to be seen, and plans are on the board to expand its capacity to about 45,000.

MD13: vs Sendhang @ the Two Rivers Stadium, Millsburgh (capacity: 37,500)

MD16: vs Montesina @ the Lakewood City Arena, Lakewood (capacity: 58,000)

Home to Lakewood United's rivals Lakewood City, the LCA was a more modern construction; only being completed in 2005. It, therefore, looks nicer than Trenton Park; but the diatribes launched against it say that it's a soulless atmosphere. Supports of City point to their attendance records and recent success. It is equipped with all the comforts of a modern stadium; and its sky blue seats make this stadium a little easier on the eyes than most.

MD18: vs Sajnur @ the Nantwich Stadium, Nantwich (capacity: 64,000)

Widely renowned for the four helical ramps around each side of the edifice and imposing roof structure with black girders jutting out on each end, the Nantwich Stadium is home to FC Inter Nantwich; and is an imposing home to one of the league's strongest teams. With its four sides rising high above the players, the stands can almost feel like they're closing in on the players. An imposing mental challenge, indeed.

MD20: vs Adab @ the Couno Port Stadium, Couno (capacity: 54,500)

Couno is the biggest city in Tumbra; with a long history of seafaring, trade, fishing, heavy industry and almost everything, it's a metropolis onto itself, and the Couno Port Stadium forms part of the Couno skyline by itself. Located on a wharf, the stadium itself was recently reconstructed in 2016, which expanded its capacity to the 54,500 it is today. Home to the Couno Rangers, with one of the most passionate supporter fanbases in Tumbra, the unique location on the harbourfront provides a unique opportunity for many a football fan. Watch out for the single-tier, heavily-sloped Heuvel stand, where the most faithful of fans gather; and attempt to make life hell for the opposition.

A VISITOR'S GUIDE TO TUMBRA

LOCATED in central Esportiva, the Federal Republic of Tumbra is a sprawling, modern democratic republic of a hundred and fourteen million people. Comprising twenty-five states, ten stadiums have been allocated to the various opposition teams that will face Tumbra throughout qualifiers season. A full map of the country can be found here.

Airports, Getting To and Travelling Within Tumbra

Tumbra is a country of many climates; cold in the north, temperate in the middle and warm in the south. The sparkling, white-sanded beaches of the south and eastern coast, the mountains of the west and the boundless plains of central Tumbra also offer dazzling tourist spots if you wish to just relax. There's also the more metropolitan cities, chock-full of culture and nightlife for the less nature-inclined amongst visitors.

Getting to Tumbra would usually entail taking a plane from an airport; Tumbra has twelve international airports, the locations of which can be found in the above factbook. To get to destinations not provided by airport, high-speed rail that travels up to about 320km/h along the southern coast offers transport to all thirteen cities hosting a match, ensuring comfort, speed and reliability to get your players to their matches on time. Within cities, most cities have at least some form of mass rapid transit or light rail that forms the basis of their transport system.

Should you still wish to travel by car, Tumbra uses left-hand drive, and verifiable international licenses are a prerequisite to hire a car. Expressways to each of the major cities do exist, though...trains also exist...and are faster...

IF your nation comes from Esportiva, Tumbra can be reached within four to six hours' flight; if it comes from the regions of Anaia, Atlantian Oceania, Rushmore or Melayu Archipelago, then Tumbra can be reached from anywhere from six to twelve hours' flight; and for countries from outside the five sporting regions, then flights to Tumbra will take twelve hours or more.

All visitors with a valid ticket will be given a visa; for those attending multiple matches, the visa will be extended accordingly. Tickets will be apportioned fairly; 40% to each team, and 10% will be sold to Tumbrans, with the remaining 10% to others. Ticket scalping is, of course, illegal; should one come across such an act of ticket scalping, then call 999 (the number for the Police in Tumbra).

Culture and Laws

The policing in each state is run by the state governments, though they are all run to a unified federal code, which standardises most equipment and techniques. Federal laws will apply here; some of the more important ones are...

The age to buy alcohol and tobacco is set at 18 years.
The age of consent is 18 years. Prostitution is legal.
The status of marijuana, confusingly for Tumbra, is vague and depends on the state. The usage of medical marijuana, however, is legalised throughout all states.
The importation of alcohol and tobacco is illegal without declaration; and there are strict limits on the amount. Importation of marijuana is illegal; the same goes for other hard drugs.
There is a blanket ban on assault weapons in Tumbra, and no importation is allowed.

The currency of Tumbra is the Tumbran Dollar, with the exchange rate being set at 1 NSD to 1.33 TMD. There is a ten per cent consumption tax on all items; usually it is factored into the price of the item.

Introduction

Flavovespia, an island nation in southern Anaia. With a population of slightly more than 20’000’000, it’s not one of the biggest nations, but it’s passionate about football. The name “Flavovespia” dervies from the benign hornet species that the first settlers discovered on the island. The national football team are nicknamed “The Hornets”. They’ve lacked a sting in the World Cup Qualifiers, in 8 attempts, not a single one has seen them reach the World Cup, or even the playoffs.

Flavovespia retain their kits from the last cycle, as is tradition to keep a kit for 2 cycles. The home shirt features an interpretation of the double-V across a large part of the body, with a similar pattern on the shorts. Yellow shirts, black shorts and black socks make up the home kit, with the reverse on the away kit. The Anain purple, white and turquoise make up the third kit.

Going into his second set of World Cup Qualifiers with Flavovespia, Augusto Rinaldi has proven himself to be a decently popular manager for The Hornets. The manager from Savigliane guided Flavovespia to 3rd in CAFA2, a Round of 16 appearance in the last Cup of Harmony with a heartbreaking penalty loss to Starblaydia, and the Quarter Finals of the most recent CAFA Cup. He’s proven to be strong at man management, and has toiled with the tactics of his favoured 4-3-3, usually to good success. His goal now will be to step it up against the toughest opposition, something Flavovespia haven’t always done.

An all-rounder in goal, his one weakness is an inconsistent streak from time to time, which is what has gotten him dropped before. Nevertheless, it’s hard to see him not making it to 100 caps and beyond now, and he always has the fight in him to try and regain the goalkeeper spot.

A player more famous for his off the pitch behaviour in his younger days, Lucky Diamond is somewhat calmer now, although his eccentric style of sweeper keeper goalkeeper remains. With his long hair, often with a dyed ponytail, he’s a hard figure to miss. Despite that, he can be a capable shot stopper, and has some great distribution.

23 Thomas Foley Age: 27 Position: GK Club: Bavingtor FC Caps: 0 Goals: 0
Good club form has seen Thomas Foley in the past 2 Flavovespian squads, but he’s not been able to get onto the pitch yet. His key strength is in one-on-one situations, where he’s up there with the best in the nation in stopping those chances. However other aspects of his goalkeeping like distribution and aerial command need to be refined, for him to move up past Aarif Muhammad and Lucky Diamond in the team sheet.

Defenders

2 David Lyons Age: 28 Position: LB Club: Langmere Green Rovers FC Caps: 89 Goals: 3
A player with plenty of experience for Langmere Green Rovers and Flavovespia, he knows what it takes to play left back at a high level. A more defensive minded player, he seeks to time his advances up field cautiously, instead looking for a past more often. That’s not to say he can’t be effective in the attacking third. Relatively well liked by the fans for a positive, enthusiastic attitude on social media and in interviews.

3 Andrew Dance Age: 25 Position: RB Club: Loxthorpe Rovers FC Caps: 36 Goals: 0
Despite being considered a bit babyfaced and a friendly face off the field, on the field he’s an old school full back. Very much defensively focused, he really isn’t afraid to make challenges, or take the odd tactical foul if necessary. He’s got a good haul of caps for a player in his mid 20’s, and will hope to continue on and lock down this position as his.

4 Stuart Cookson Age: 27 Position: CB Club: Marthorpe City FC Caps: 40 Goals: 0
After a fair few trials and tribulations, it finally seems Stuart Cookson has secured his spot in the Flavovespian squad, maybe even as a starter for the majority of games. 1.92m (6’4), he is an aerial threat in defence and at set-pieces at both ends. He’s not the most agile of defenders, but has worked hard to improve concentration and positioning to mitigate for that.

5 Tony Gardner Age: 34 Position: CB Club: Newrook City FC [NPH] Caps: 212 Goals: 6
The second most capped player for Flavovespia, the experience Tony Gardner brings to the back line is second to none. However at 34, and playing for Newrook City who have fallen out of the Nepharan Zenith recently, it seems the final chapters of his international career are being written. His experience, and ability to play the ball as a defender is a part of how he got to over 200 caps. Whether he still has the physical ability at this level will be tested. Somewhat feisty, and not known for tolerating much nonsense from others.

13 Kishan Rees Age: 28 Position: LWB Club: Binclestead Wood FC Caps: 40 Goals: 0
A dynamic player, listed as a left wing back, he can play almost anywhere down the left hand side. Maybe as a defender his abilities could do with refining, and some of his rather rogue tackles have made him an enemy of a few players and teams. However, his ball progression, and eye for passing and crossing can make him a valuable asset in the right situation.

14 Paul Taylor Age: 22 Position: CB Club: Langmere Green Rovers FC Caps: 2 Goals: 0
A young, talented centre back from the Langmere Green Rovers academy, and now in their first eleven. Despite his relatively young age, club manager Kelvin Muir and now Augusto Rinaldi have been impressed by the speed at which he progresses to the next level. His build is typical of his position, tall and strong, and his agility and pace suffers a little. However he can put in a strong tackle, or header or kick of the ball.

15 Daniel Lansdell Age: 29 Position: CB Club: St Astons City FC Caps: 42 Goals: 1
A player with a reasonable number of appearances in the national team, but often never quite reaching the level of consistent starter. As a centre back, he has good awareness of the game and is decent with the ball at his feet. However he can sometimes be beaten for pace, or strength by the toughest of strikers. Somewhat argumentative as well, although by Flavovespian defender standards, not the one most likely to kick off.

16 David Blythe Age: 31 Position: RWB Club: Kytheas Rivermen [TKT] Caps: 137 Goals: 0
A wing back who’s spent a lot of time in the national side as a right back. Never a player who brings much attention to him, he’s generally regarded as one who just gets on with the job. He has good pace and acceleration, and a strong long ball on him, but his tackling and marking isn’t the best of the wide defenders in the squad.

Midfielders

6 David Clark Age: 32 Position: CDM Club: Langmere Green Rovers FC Caps: 115 Goals: 14
A veteran in the midfield, David Clark is on the list of players in this squad for whom there’s a chance this could be their last World Cup Qualifiers. Comfortable as a centre defensive midfielder or centre midfielder naturally, he plays a box to box role typically, although can also be an anchor man. High stamina, high commitment, and strong, he’s an unyielding figure in the centre of the park.

7 Kieron Player Age: 27 Position: CDM Club: Lanar [CMT] Caps: 86 Goals: 3
Kieron Player has spent most of his career abroad now, currently in Lanar in Chromatika. In terms of passing and vision, one of the best for Flavovespia in the middle of the park. Consistency however is key, along with avoiding being bullied off the ball, and working well with teammates to progress play. On the surface he seems sullen and standoffish, but he is a friendly introvert.

8 Robert Totten Age: 31 Position: CAM Club: Loxthorpe Rovers FC Caps: 73 Goals: 18
The flamboyant centre attacking midfielder has been an important part of the squad in recent tournaments, despite playing slightly out of position. He can link up from the midfield to the attack, and isn’t afraid at all to take a shot himself, and with 18 goals at international level, he can find the net with those shots. Although at 31, he’ll need to prove himself to stay in the national team for the next few tournaments.

11 Steven Hall Age: 36 Position: RAM Club: Loxthorpe Rovers FC Caps: 229 Goals: 97
The debate may be going on about whether or not his recent club performances and his age have warranted this call up. However, Steven Hall is undoubtedly a legend for Flavovespia. Even in his mid-30s, he was giving it his all in CAFA Cup 3, and still delivering. His pace and agility may not be what they were, but his passing, crossing and shooting are still fine for this level. This will, barring some exceptional situations, his last World Cup Qualifiers, and his presence will be sorely missed. He’ll be hoping to go out on a high note.

17 Sachin Gupta Age: 28 Position: CDM Club: Garden City FC Caps: 2 Goals: 0
His performances for Garden City in their title winning season earned him a place in the Flavovespia National Team for CAFA Cup 3. He has bottomless stamina, and is always looking to win the ball back and quickly create chances for his side. International experience for him so far is limited, so he’ll need to impress in training and then take the chances on the pitch, to build on his tally of caps.

18 David Wassell Age: 25 Position: CDM Club: St Astons City FC Caps: 18 Goals: 0
A player who is now flourishing into a very skilled midfielder at St Astons City, and now hopefully for Flavovespia. A good defensive midfielder, able to hassle the opposition to try and win the ball back, and then try and create something with him. He needs to show he can be consistent for 90 minutes, and avoid lapses in concentration and focus.

19 Jonathan Bagshaw Age: 21 Position: RAM Club: Langmere Green Rovers FC Caps: 21 Goals: 7
21 caps at 21, Jonathan Bagshaw already looks like one of the best attacking midfielders in the Flavovespian Super League, and at international level has shown flashes of brilliance. He has the physical skills to succeed at the highest level, and his passing and shooting is getting ever greater. In terms of skill, a replacement for Steven Hall has definitely arrived.

20 Andrew Thomas Age: 28 Position: LM Club: Marthorpe City FC Caps: 6 Goals: 1
He began his career as a left midfielder, but has played at club and international level now as a left attacking midfielder. He has pace, good dribbling skills, but needs to develop a clinical edge in front of goal at international level. He’ll need to impress with both Jonathan Bagshaw and Michael Cole able to play in the same position as him.

Forwards

9 Michael Cole Age: 27 Position: CF Club: North Hall [BRE] Caps: 74 Goals: 22
At his best, quite possibly the most talented forward Flavovespia has. However there’s a sense he needs to put in the performances week in, week out at international level to justify that. Has recently made a move to North Hall in Brenecia, to hopefully further his career. He’s pacey, and usually an accurate finisher, although can be a tad selfish in front of goal. Rather outspoken and has fallen out with players on both sides before. Is the son of manager Nick Cole, who’s previously managed the Flavovespia national team twice.

10 Scott Coleman Age: 33 Position: CF Club: Aries Chariots [NPH] Caps: 203 Goals: 125
The most ever goals for the Flavovespia National Team, and one of the 3 in the 200+ cap club. Time catches up to all players, and at 33, Scott Coleman may very well be in his final World Cup Qualifiers. Playing in the Nepharan Zenith for Aries Chariots, he was one of the first high profile Flavovespians to make a transfer abroad for club football. A typical poacher, always looking to be in the right spot at the right time, and if he is, he normally has the accuracy to score. Whether or not he still has the agility and stamina to keep up his past levels of performance remains to be seen.

21 Adrian Jones Age: 28 Position: CF Club: Langmere Green Rovers FC Caps: 12 Goals: 3
A classic target man striker, Adrian Jones has shown he can help lead the front line, with great displays at Langmere Green Rovers. He won’t beat everyone with pace, but he’s a big strong striker, with the ability to core with his head, his favoured right foot, but also his left foot. However he needs to be a little more heads-up at this level, especially if he is to be the lone striker in a 4-3-3. Is considered a relatively jovial figure off the pitch.

22 Robin King Age: 24 Position: CF Club: Langmere Green Rovers FC Caps: 2 Goals: 0
His transfer from Apsbrooke to Langmere Green Rovers, effectively to replace Michael Cole, have seemingly been a success, and he joins plenty of his teammates in the national team. A deceptively quick and strong striker, defenders can be caught out by his physical skills. His finishing and composure could do with some work if he’s to be successful at international level, where easy chances come at a premium.

Tactics

Flavovespia play a 4-3-3, with the aim to play direct, vertical football. There’s been some changing over time, and there could be again, but the expectation this time is a flat four at the back. The midfield should see at least one of the three have more freedom to advance forward, as the other two try and win the ball and setup creative chances. The 2 wide forwards will have to decide to cut inside or go outside, and be able to assist or score. Similarly for the main striker, they may need to act as a false nine at times, to open up space for a wide forward to cut in. However they can’t shy away from driving runs into the box.

Having qualified for the past three World Cups, including one Ro16 appearance, Tikariot had established itself as one of the multiverse's top footballing nations, even though the latest edition of World Cup 89, hosted in Tikariot and South Newlandia to boot, had been a major disappointment with only one point and the Copa Rushmori was another desastrous performance. After a lot of discussions about the future direction of the team and with it the future of coach Stuart Ekstrom, the TFF had decided to put things behind them and look ahead instead with an unchanged management side of things moving into the qualifying campaign for WC90 and unfortunately Tikariot fell short by one point, missing out on the playoffs. Now, with former assistant coach Brian McAllister returning from a very successful tenure in Sargossa, where he won two Copa Rushmori, Tikariot's football faithful are looking towards a turnaround of their fortunes, which took a first step by surviving the group stages of the Cup of Harmony 82 and then carried them into the Round of 16 of the Copa Rushmori XL. Now it is all hands on deck for the qualifying campaign for World Cup 91 and its motto "Retribution's Dawn."

The same the fans of the senior team, the fans of the Owlets also deserve particular mentioning. Not only are they renowned for their chants, but they are also bringing the Thunder Clap (Click here for example) to the stadium, something that the players join in as a pre-game ritual that has left an impression on the opponents and opposing fans more than once (OOC: similar to the Haka of the New Zealand All Blacks). After having been assistant to now former coach Stuart Ekstrom, Brian McAllister made the move to Sargossa and enjoyed a lot more success than his former mentor, having two Copa Rushmori victories under his belt, so with the expiration of his contract in Sargossa and Ekstrom's dismissal after the disappointing string of results aligning, the timing was perfect for McAllister to return to his native country in the driver's seat. He had been a proponent of the same flexible 4-3-3 setup that Ekstrom had almost perfected to a point and that has not changed during his Sargossan employment, which should make the transition for McAllister easier.The 4-3-3 is still the established system, but flexibility and fluidity play an important role, allowing for the full backs to push forward or the wingers to fall back to create a numeric advantage and either quell opponents' advances or overwhelm them in the play forward. Tactically well educated players are very important in his system as he allows his players a certain degree of freedom on the pitch as well, such as the wingers switching sides or the full backs overlapping the wingers in order to remain unpredictable for opponents and create holes other players can dive into and pull apart the opposing defense.

Acastanha or Federation of Acastanha is a country located in northeast part of Melayu Mainland in Melayu Archipelago. It has a land border with Kayangan to the southwest and Sendhang to its south. And another maritime border with Hundredstar to the southeast. It is a developing country with agriculture and some mining as their main income. CPO is the country's largest export commodity followed by timber.

In the world of sports, Acastanha started their international debut by entering 5th Melayu Archipelago Cup. They were managed to advance to quarterfinal but they were stopped by Belfitz. Over the course of the competition, they are always managed to qualify to the knockout stage. But they often ended up in the Quarterfinal. Their best performance was at the recent event, 10th Melayu Archipelago Cup where they reached the final for the first time. Although they were defeated by Eraman in the end.

In the international competition, Acastanha senior football team debuts at Baptism of Fire 74 before continuing to the World Cup. They have entered 4 times in the World Cup Cycle and never advance to the main competition. In the last World Cup (90th), they were finished 4th in their Group Qualifying Round, their best result so far. They were also invited to Cup of Harmony, their first ever. In the event, they managed to stayed until Round 32 where they were beaten by Qasden.

The Tactics

Efnak national teams, and the country as a whole, fundamentally believe in a 4-4-2 system, based predominantly around a counter-attacking philosophy with creativity coming from wingers, strikers, and overlapping fullbacks. While there is a growing movement within the domestic game around adapting the system into a more fluid, possession-based attacking system, manager Katemabffu is still from the orthodox school, and as such this team, like all national team squads at the moment, will look to bunker in and defend before throwing men forward in a potent counter-attack. While more attacking football was on display during the Baptism of Fire, far more negativity is expected against the higher quality opponents in World Cup Qualifying.

The Fans

Soccer, or football if you prefer, is really the only sport in Efnakia that anybody cares about, and as such the national team is incredibly well-supported, especially in international competition. The main feature of Efnak support is the Ssaddar, a call-and-response performance involving the full squad prior to matches both at home in Efnakia and during international tournaments where Efnak fans are expected to be in the majority. Efnak fans are guaranteed to sell out every home match, and are more than likely to fill their travelling contingent for every away match. Fan support at international matches within Efnakia generally take the form of the support of the local side - foreign visitors are far more likely to encounter a wall of drums in the Anddof heartland, a cacophony of bells in the industrial cities of Ssedbam, and ~~ethnically charged insults~~ enormous choreography and vocals in nationalistic Abmas.

Our History:

CAFA 3 saw Mertagne's best performance yet in the competition, with a Round of 16 appearance. On the World Cup Stage, however, Mertagne has struggled in the annals of mediocrity, having a miracle run on their debut appearance in the modern era, but failing to capture the imagination like other nations such as Polkopia, who started in the same position as Mertagne and managed to qualify in their first attempt in their modern era in World Cup 89. World Cup 90 brought a tough group with names such as Electrum, Cassadaigua, and Polkopia, in a tough time of transition as Kristie Ettrick struggled to get the now matured squad going against some of the smallest teams. A sixth place finish in the qualifying group stage felt like a drubbing, but in actuality was likely the universe averaging out Mertagne's two performances. This time around, the team is energised with the appointment of Starblaydi legend Ázëwyn Fëanáro, who has had nearly a whole cycle to sculpt the team towards her style of play, which has proven successful for neighbouring nation Starblaydia in times past. This World Cup Qualifying brings some more big names, once again in Group 8, and once again with Polkopia, and it's the hope that it will be Mertagne this time that gives the larger teams a run for their money and makes Group 8 a 'group of death' for everyone.

Fëanáro has become a bit of a rockstar in Mertagnian sport circles, but you'd never know it from her calm demeanour and respected interview style. Fëanáro knows that the Mertagnian team won't become instant successes overnight, and is constantly looking to make marginal improvements to the squad and their play. It's been a lot of work, but Fëanáro seems to have relished the opportunity to work on such a project, free of the potential shackles of tradition that the squad that raised her may have imposed.

Assistant Manager: Kristie Ettrick, 42,

Aggressive, Intense, Compact, Dissenter
Kristie Ettrick is undergoing somewhat of a renaissance. They say life begins at 40, and a rough World Cup qualification campaign was all that was there to greet her when she turned 40. However, she's weathered the storm with great aplomb, and has settled well into an assistant manager role that spends just as much time coaching. Ever the shouty soul to Fëanáro's more tempered flame, the two in interviews have devised an excellent 'good cop, bad cop' strategy that seems to make the media equal parts annoyed and enthralled.

The squad will be playing with a style modifier of +4, as both members of staff in charge are attack-minded, and are looking to score lots of goals against bigger teams to drag them down the points table. Mertagne feel like the odds of qualification this cycle are slim, and so any opportunities the apple-green nation get to upset the apple cart will be seized with both hands.

Dannin City Stadium, Dannin (Capacity: 85,750)
Dannin City Stadium sits in the heart of Mertagne's capital, and its unique look ensures that it's both an art piece, a functional stadium, and an eco-friendly statement all at once due to it's assortment of solar panels, which wax and wane with the passing of the sun. Home to top-tier domestic team Century Mertagne, the patriotic lime and dark green seating is sure to excite any nation that comes to play here.

Flynn Ar3na, New Fligsive (Capacity: 88,750)
A project that could be considered the crucible of New Fligsive, Mertagne, the Flynn Ar3na (named as it is the third stadium to bear the name) was built as a multi-year construction project between regional construction giant Flynn’s, and the Mertagnian government. The Flynn Ar3na boasts a unique design that iterates on the design of its predecessor, the Flynn Arena in Fligsive, Euran Oceania Territories. This incarnation of the stadium has sacrificed some of its seats in order to incorporate a unique art section - where the old Flynn Arena’s upper ring would have been, here instead sit thousands of individually cast faceless metal statues, each inscribed with a names of Fligsivi civilians and combatants during the Corvidae War and associated Fligsive Incident. The unique acoustics that these metal statues cause in the upper ring creates a scintillating echoing effect when sound is broadcast from the top, which provides unique opportunities in this multi-purpose stadium, home to club side New Fligsive’s Memory. It is said that sometimes, the statues create the echo of a crowd lost to time.

Cop Limy Stadium, Neorudo (Capacity: 96,300)
The Cop Limy is an iconic stadium, formerly belonging to the city-state of Leorudo in which Mertagne was first settled long after the exodus of its former owners. Home to the original Mertagnian club side that is Lehen Neorudo, and situated in the Docklands district adjacent to the mountain that comprises of the sprawling city's 'Old Quarter', The Cop Limy is the premier venue for sports matches and concerts alike in the city. Upgraded several times over the years, the Stadium stands as a stereotype of the city itself - old architecture (present in the fancy stonework adorning the stadium's left long side) fused with the latest building styles (a white carbon fiber donut covering the other three sides, that can be lit in a variety of colours). The stadium boasts the best in electronic scoreboard technology, and has a single long strip of interactive screens surrounding the top rafters of the interior, which have been used for purposes such as advertising, light shows, and close-up camera feeds.
Located in the stadium complex is a museum dedicated to Mertagnian football, which includes the preserved former offices of the FMF, including the very boardroom where the historic COCANEFA LigAnaia was born.

Nyowani Kitara National Team

Nyowani Kitara is a nation that is a multi-ethnic and largely bi-racial communist nation, formally ruled as a one party state. The communist party is called the Kitara Progressive Workers Coalitions, abbreviated as the KPWC, which is the country's only legal political party. While for many years the party has always been the most important institution, over the past 30 years the military has taken a dominant role in the affairs of the party, and by extension, the state.

There are three major ethnic groups in Nyowani Kitara. The first is the Kitara, who account for approximately 57% of the population. These are black skinned people who originate as part of the Kitara tribe, in Banija, mass migrated to modern-day Nyowani Kitara in the 1840s after they were largely exiled by Banijan authorities. Because of that, they have no diplomatic relations with Banija and are largely to be considered 'radically' anti-Banijan. Radical anti-Mormon teachings from the country, alongside Communism and a dispute over who should use the name(Banija consider their own Kitara Region to be the 'true Kitara', while Nyowani Kitara believe Banija lost the rights to the name when the exilied the Kitara people), lead to heavily strained relations.

When they came to north Rushmore, They conquered the land that was dominated by a variety of white native tribes. Osterlanders(approximately 30% of the population) are the biggest native white ethnic group, with Nordlanders(6%) and Zealanders(1%) behind them. The remaining 6% are largely white immigrants and their descendants from neighboring countries (particularly Graentfjall, Tikariot, Yuezhou, and San Ortelio).

Nyowani Kitara is known for its short, yet harsh, winters. This is a small and poorer country, and therefore outdoor sports are rather popular in this corner of Rushmore. Ethnic group for each player is listed. While sports in Nyowani Kitara are integrated on gender, this team is all males.

Nyowani Kitara is coming freshly out of a particularly brutal civil war. With peace established for our time, and the Osterland referendum narrowly keeping the country unified, they will enter election season. The national team, like in many countries, is anything but apolitical. It is controlled by the victorious KPWC, and its chairman is also the national team manager- who was appointed not in the least due to his socialist credentials from Yuezhou.

Expect the country's political situation to have a heavy bearing on how this team operates.

Wang Jiahui
- Wang is a mobile forward most at home as a penalty-box predator, but who also loves playing on the right wing and cutting inside to unleash long-range shots. Wang Jiahui was once conisdered the next big thing in Yue football. While his footballing talent remains, his diehard support for Ren Qiang's doomed socialist regime in Yuezhou turned him into a POW and a fugitive in the newly-established United Republics, and so he had to go abroad. Finding a home in Mytanija, he's risen to stardom with the opportunity focus solely on club football, with Litala '93. But he's itching to get back into international duty. Wang Jiahui, as a supporter of Ren Qiang, was also a very loud supporter of President Nafuna Akongo during the civil war. He even held a fundraiser for the KPWC in the early stages of the war, when it looked as if the Kitara Revolutionary Forces would collapse. Therefore, without a country, the President reached out, and gave him an award for 'special services to the state'. She also, surprisingly, gave him citizenship- a unique power of the President in the Kitaran Constitution. Despite diplomatic protests and strong protests from other FAs, as he is a Kitaran citizen, he is eligible to represent Nyowani Kitara in international competition- so his compatriot, Liang Wei, has called him up.

[M/He/Him] Hansdotter is being called the future of Kitaran football. While, of course, there is always some hyperbole with declarations like that from countries that are new to this, he impressed in league play in Nyowani Kitara as one of the league's most consistent players, even at his young age. While his effort defending varies wildly, he's got a laser focus when going forward. He can pin point passes, and moves well without the ball to help pull apart defenses. Almsot everybody agrees that he's good enough to start for the NYK national team- however, his vocal support of Osterlander independence leaves him blackballed from the national team, for now anyways. There are rumors that Liang Wei wants to bring him on board but is waiting for the President's blessing. Meanwhile, Hansdotter believes a move abroad will force the KWFA's hand to bring him a national team invite, despite his politics.

So...
What even is Gortolekua?

You find yourself on a boat somewhere in Anaian waters, say near Hodeikoleku, and you see a bay that looks absolutely welcoming—the Rehevä Bay, as many of your geography books call it. That beautiful body of water is calling your name, and you start heading toward that bay, approaching the mouth that leads into the Rehevä Bay, entering via the Eteroa Strait. Just as you make your way into the Eteroa Strait and the sharp calanques that grace most of the shores, a massive missile shoots up (from underwater, mind you) meters away from your vessel, telling you to get the hell away from us.

Gortoleki hospitality at its finest.

That was the case until very recently, thanks to a national opening led by the newly inaugurated Päälehen (what you might call a prime minister) Perry Salonen of the Ecologist Laborers’ Party. Sure, many Gortoleki would love to fire off missiles to anyone entering the Bay again, but it’s a no-can-do to do just that. So why now is Gortolekua going to open up to the world, with its aavekitze policy? “Because it’ll be unwise of us not to,” Salonen says, on a clockwork-like basis. So we’re now at a focal point in the nation’s history: Gortolekua is now supposed to be open to “diplomacy” and “talking to other people” (which, honestly, they’ve already been ready, it’s just past governments opposed it). And now there’s a valid reason for a national football team.

Now that you've made it past the potential missile blowing up your ship, Gortolekua is a country that—for whatever reason—chooses vintage over anything else. Sure, they've independently developed high definition television, satellite radio and other modern technological services that are taken for granted by many across the multiverse, but you'll rarely, if ever, find a Gortoleki using such a thing. Four-three aspected television, vinyl LPs, CDs, and early internet aesthetics with the blazing fast speeds of today are the norms in this Anaian nation. Fashion-wise, cuffed jeans and thrifted trainers are galore alongside corduroy skirts and esquired leather boots. Mainstream Gortoleki fashion is best compared to the prevalent university fashion choices across many liberal arts departments and college radio stations.

But beyond the institutionalized hostility toward foreigners imposed by generations of governments, the perceived pretentiousness that originates from the average Gortoleki's fashion sense, and the intra-national rivalry between Gortola in the north and Olekua in the south, split by the Eteroa Strait, Gortoleki people are...warm. They'll help you out on the street if you're lost—before telling you to stop wasting their time. They'll offer a warm plate of food to someone in need before rushing you to wash dishes faster. They'll tell you they care about your utmost well-being while also roasting the living crap out of you. They care, even if it seems like they don't.

A brief national footballing history

As a philosophy, that Gortoleki tough love is what makes football— Gortolekua’s most popular and beloved sport—special in the country. It’s one of a few things Gortola and Olekua both agree on. Compassion for their opponent as people, ruthlessness for their opponents as players. You'll see some of the nastiest, yet fairest, tackles from a Gortoleki centre-back tracking back their opponent, or simulations that are reasonable from strikers and forwards. If the ball is well and far away, it's an insult to the game to dive, but if there's a chance where it looks like the ball is close? Prepare for an acting performance unlike any other. There's a respect for the beautiful game and its hideous counterparts among Gortoleki players and overall genuine excitement for bringing this brand of football to the multiverse.

Until very recently, the nation had no sort of national league, instead relying on the 10 provincial leagues for a league fix. Now entering its second season, the newly-created Ohorekunnia is where most of the Winter Lynxes are sourced for this young national team. Of course, some of the recently transferred out players—the first Gortoleki people to leave the country in who knows how long—will also be included in the squad as well.

Coaching

Following a third-place finish at the 78th Baptism of Fire, Astraalitaso manager and noted aavakitze supporter Bárbara Sanderson continues to run the den as manager of the Gortoleki national football team. “Have we seen some impressive stuff from the players at our first ever tournament? Yes, yes we have,” Sanderson said ahead of the country’s first World Cup qualifier. “But this is a whole new ballgame. Nations that have been in this for much longer than we have. This will be a much tougher challenge than what we’re used to before.”

Tactically, Sanderson employs a 4-2-3-1 at her home club, and it's the same formation she'll be imposing for the first ever national football team. The stalwart position in Gortoleki football is the defensive midfielder; the two defensive midfielders will serve as the heartbeat for Gortolekua's team. Didn't work too bad for the Baptism of Fire, after all, didn’t it? Even if there was some floundering down to the wire.

A stalwart leader between the posts, Ohorekunnia Golden Glove-winner Malone Newport is the obvious choice to be Gortolekua's No. 1 for its first ever foray into multiversal football. Standing at 191cm, his acrobatic shot-stopping is something he rarely gets to exhibit playing for club side Kyynel PK, but he knows how to break out a camera flash or two. While his ball distribution may be a bit on the weaker side, distributing conservatively to a distance but also prone to turning over the ball in that way, Newport can certainly absorb most of what comes his way. Piia Heikkilä is a solid sweeper-keeper who can begin excellent attacks from her goalkicks, but her ventures outside of the box have proven costly to previous club KftA Lehoi Hegodun. She's hopeful to showcase maturity to her Parakleion Firebirds teammates and manager with a hopeful appearance or two in the tournament. Finally, Rigmor Ragnvaldsson, combining Newport's shot-stopping and Heikkilä's distribution on soundly inferior-but-not-awful scales, will be key to any deep run in the knockouts; he's their penalty specialist.

Saarinen and Scrivener go hand-in-hand together as a full-back pairing, and their telepathic communication is what makes home club Tähti Roverit JK a delight to watch. Both are interconnected, knowing when to cross, defend, or alleviate pressure on either side of the pitch. They're solid scorers, excellent defenders, and surprisingly sly playmakers as well. It makes sense that they know each other so well, given that the two came up from the academy together and have pretty much been on the same journey since their fateful call-up. The two will need to be more defensive working in Sanderson's system, but if she gives the green light for the two to do what they do best, it's a good advisory for opponents to watch it.

The centre-back pairing, however, is a generational divide. Garland Toivonen and Lía Lindsey are definitely one of the last pairings fans expected to be that last line of defense in the inaugural Winter Lynx XI. But their styles of play complement each other so well: Lindsey is a passionate and calculated defender for her age, with great signs of maturing to become of the nation's finest defenders in a couple years' time. Southern Star in Brenecia already recognizes the diamond in the rough that lays within. But she's still going to be a brash teenager player. Toivonen, however, provides the level-headedness that Lindsey may lack given her age. He knows how to put a foot in better than anyone else on this team, and when to put that foot in. You'll find Toivonen where he needs to be during any given moment, and that's what makes a good centre-back great.

For back-up options, Rocío Guadarrama and Arin Travieso both offer masterclasses in timewasting and tomfoolery. Guadarrama is one of those players you love to have on your team but hate otherwise, all while not being afraid of receiving a yellow card if need be. She'll put in a tackle and call it "proper football," but her hotheadedness is more intense than that of Lindsey's. She's an amazing back-up option but definitely keen on exploding every now and then. Conversely (and ironically, given his last name), Travieso may be seen as too soft. He knows how to ping a ball out from distance, and he can tackle, but there's glimpses of him within that truly hold back his greatness on a daily basis. If he played with more aggression than he normally does, he would be a feared centre-back. But a calm Arin Travieso still makes opposing forwards feel uneasy. On the sides, Grier Fishman is a slow yet methodical left-back—a return to what being a left-back means for football traditionalists, while finding it difficult to produce anything productive in opposing halves of the pitch. Eder Linna offers great speed and great attacking, yet somewhat lacks in defensive output. Expect to see him come on if Gortolekua needs a goal late and the Saarinen/Scrivener duo can't do it on their own.

Two of the country's best defensive midfielders will have their chance to shine through and through. Jessica Partanen is a great midfielder director who can put a shift in the backline if needed. She can help push on or pull back with maximum ease and on the fly as well. And a solid leadership presence in the outfield as well. Karissa Lynton, of Kyynel PK, sure knows how to kill the game. She helped lead her club side, alongside Malone Newport and Arin Travieso, to be Gortolekua's most smothering side in the league. Opponents best believe Lynton will bring that same smothering quality as a defensive midfielder to the national team.

As for that third starting midfielder, she's in an entirely opposite school of footballing philosophy. Myra Randal led the league in assists last season with 30 (an average of 1 per match), and will definitely be finding any open space she can to either carry forward or weigh some through balls. If Randal can find just that, she’s bound to impress the many fans watching this Baptism of Fire and wow the blokes over at Boom!™ Uranium Mining to make their Best Eleven.

Mapla Salinas, the Ohorekunnia's Player of the Season, was controversially left on the bench despite many fans' pleas and pundits' lauding of her as better than any of the midfielders selected by Sanderson. The gaffer, however, views Salinas differently. "She's phenomenal at what she does," Sanderson said. "For the most part. We have a stacked midfield and for my tactical needs, Salinas is less of what I need than any of Partanen, Lynton or Randal. But you have to have a solid bench to go far in this tournament, so whenever there's a situation where I'll need Mapla, you'll be the first to see it in my face."

Ivor Esteban is one of the new kids on the block. He’s a highly touted prospect for the national team who, while not ready yet, should be on the Starting XI when this Gortolekua team finds its rhythm down the line. But Bárbara Sanderson still believes he’s good enough to make the first team, and is giving him a chance to break out ahead of schedule. Another excellent goal creator bound to take over from Randal down the line, Esteban joined Astograthian side Sporting Arkamo to further his development in one of the multiverse’s top leagues. He’s calm under the expected pressure that comes with being a superstar in the making. “Sure, it’ll be a long ways down before we get taken seriously, but hopefully this is our first chance of making it happen,” Esteban said in a GFU.gtk exclusive interview. “But there’s beauty in the struggle, and that’s where I thrive. I’m hoping this is where we can start making a name for ourselves.”

Finally, Landen Pilgrim—considered by many to be the greatest Gortoleki player of his generation—rounds out the midfield. With shot knees and half the stride he once had, he doesn’t play with the same grace that he used to play with. But for a player that’s meant so much to anyone who’s watched him play, this is a once in a lifetime chance that he never thought would come. He can still put in a mean tackle here or there, if needed, but he’s out here living the dream.

For a front three, Ohorekunnia goal-scoring machine Drummond Douglas leads the way alongside his runner-up in the Golden Boot competition, Darby Innes. Douglas is a close-range merchant, best finding the back of the net when he’s got excellent play building up to him, whereas Innes’ goal-scoring prowess comes from her ability to cut inside into the opposition and score from mid-range. It’ll be challenging, with two goal-scoring machines up front—Douglas is the more likely of the two to assist, but Innes (considered the most humble of the KftA squad) promises she’ll pass when it matters. “Yeah, I get I’ve got a rep for bagging a few too many goals for a winger, but I’ll do my best to ensure not to hog too much,” Innes said during a pre-Baptism of Fire presser. “There’s national glory up for grabs, and I can overlook my daily rivals if it means we can be eternal champions.”

To round out the starting frontline, Catrine Mäkinen makes her way in as another crossing specialist, and her link-up play alongside club teammate Kauko Scrivener should create exciting action alongside the right. While four assists may not seem much, Tähti Roverit’s xG is shown to have a statistically significant difference whenever Mäkinen is in the squad But it’s her backup in Judith Berge, who normally plays as a striker, that raised eyebrows toward manager Sanderson. “She plays with such great excellence and bursting speed that I’m going to be doing [Tähti Roverit manager] Anne [Garcia] a favor when Judith comes back from international duty,” Sanderson said. Berge’s flexibility as a player should open up for even serving as a striker if need be in dire situations as well.

Similarly, Ambrose Echevarría is playing in a more forward position from his traditional left wing-back spot alongside Douglas at 1.FC Goudini, but his pace will certainly be no issue for him should he be used in the upcoming tournament. And Torcull Allan, considered the most balanced of the six forward players selected, rounds out the collective. Considered to be the country’s “most complete striker” right now, Allan provides a specific balance with goals and assists that would normally peg him as the starter, but Allan is coming off a light hamstring injury picked up during off-season training. “I’m feeling ready to play now, but I need to keep it light to start for now, at least,” Allan said. “Keep the training wheels on for a minute before I go full sprint. Hopefully Drummond doesn’t screw up my recovery!”

Uniforms

More often than not, you’re going to see Gortolekua almost always play in their home uniform. It’s a pretty sick design, according to the kit designers, and they think it’s pretty cool that they’ve got a cool enough kit. Away and third kits should rarely come up unless there’s some crazy clash between the black home kits. Our apologies to the refs, who must now wear colorful tops as a result.

Attributes

As you can see, the attributes in the boxes have been adapted from Genshin to fit the NSSverse. This section will aid in explaining the attributes, and how they translate to on-field play.

Level
The overall level of the Ayakas; base attributes increase based on it. Characters gain level as they play more matches. However, as they progress, the threshold to level up rises. Ascension doesn't exist (thankfully) in this world.

HP
The amount of tackles or shunts Ayaka can take before becoming injured. Standing tackles constitute 20 HP, unsuccessful sliding tackles constitute 35 HP, and successful sliding tackles constitute 50 HP. These numbers will increase as Ayaka levels up. In a case of an ugly tackle, the exact amount of HP lost will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, although for now they'll almost certainly result in an injury for the affected Ayaka. Ayakas below 30% Max HP will be at a higher risk of sustaining an injury, while those below 100 HP will be considered unfit for playing, a.k.a. injured.

Attack
The basis for shots, crosses and the like (basically whatever is considered offensive). Ayakas with a higher attack will have a better chance of scoring, setting up a good cross etc.

Forwards - A higher attack translates to more accurate shooting and more powerful shots. It doesn't directly dictate whether they will score.
Midfielders - A higher attack translates to more accurate crosses and better runs through oppositions' defenses.

Defense
The basis for tackles and the like (basically whatever is considered defensive). Ayakas with a higher attack will have a better chance of winning tackles, winning aerial duels etc.

Goalkeepers - A higher defense usually translates to a better chance of saving a shot. Goalkeepers with higher defenses have higher chances of: coming out for crosses, winning 1v1 situations, saving on-target long-range shots, saving shots from 20 yards out.
Defenders - A higher defense translates to more successful tackles. Defenders with higher defenses have higher chances of: successfully clearing a corner, successfully winning the ball in the penalty area with a tackle without conceding a penalty.

Stamina
All Ayakas have the same sprint speed, but stamina determines how long one can sprint before slowing down due to fatigue. Sliding tackles, long passes, crosses and long/powerful shots also take up stamina.
100 stamina takes approximately 10 seconds to deplete. Ayakas with less than 20 stamina will not be able to do any of the stamina-reducing actions mentioned above.

Critical Hits
This is divided into Crit Rate and Crit Damage.

Only skills and ultimates can be Crit Hits.

Crit Rate increases the chance of a skill or ultimate becoming a Crit Hit, so a 50% Crit Rate would mean the Ayaka has a 50/50 chance of their skill or ultimate being a Crit Hit. A 100% Crit Rate means all skills or ultimates are Crit Hits, although this usually sacrifices Crit Damage. All Ayakas have a base of 5% crit rate.

Crit Damage both increases the efficiency and amplifies the attribute factored in for the skill or ultimate. Up till 100%, Crit Damage increases the efficiency of the Crit Hit. Increased efficiency means any normals, skills or ultimates carried out has a higher chance of succeeding based on Crit Damage. 90% Crit Damage means the attack is 90% likely to succeed.

After 100%, any surplus Crit Damage is converted to whatever attribute the normal, skill or burst is based on. 125% Crit Damage on a defender's skill means the extra 25% is converted to defense.

All Ayakas have their Crit Damage increased when they reach certain levels.

Energy Recharge
Every minute, all characters gain 4 energy unless they are injured. To cast an ultimate, all Ayakas require 80 energy. The maximum amount of energy able to be stored is 100; any extra energy is wasted.

Energy Recharge increases the amount of energy gained every minute, with a base of 100%. An Ayaka with 120% Energy Recharge means she gains 120%*4=4.8 energy every minute.

Miscellaneous and RP Permissions

Substitutions and Injuries
Substitutes aren't a thing technically in the Kamisato Ayaka Nation team. If an Ayaka is injured and can't continue, the game simply continues until the Ayaka recovers.

Recovery
Injured Ayakas tend to heal quickly. To recover full HP, they only need to eat 2 apples. However, considering all Ayakas eat apples with a fork and knife on a porcelain plate it'd probably take longer for them to eat their fill than a normal human.
Additionally, when injured Ayakas are redeployed on the field, they suffer from a 10% deficit of all their attributes, and 5% for Crit-related ones.

Can defenders shoot?
Technically speaking no, but non-forwards can adapt to and inherit the skillsets of forwards when they are in the final third, though it isn't necessary.
Similarly, defenders and forwards can inherit midfielder-exclusive skillsets in the middle of the pitch; midfielders can inherit defender-exclusive skillsets in the defensive third.

Do I have to refer to... whatever system this is?
No, usually because all this info is privy to only the Ayakas. You can talk about their systematic way of playing, or their fancy way of propelling the ball.

Levelling System
The maximum level for all Ayakas is 100, and this is split into a few phases.

Level 1-20 Rudimentary Phase: For the earlier stages of Ayaka, all attributes will be more or less equally increased up till level 20; this is when the Ayakas get the hang of how football works, so as they learn simpler skills such as basic shooting and defending their skills increase.
Level 21-40 Emergence Phase: As the Ayakas gain more experience, they start to focus on their main attribute, whether it be defending or attack. Their specialised attributes will continue to exponentially increase while other attributes start slowing down.
Level 41-70 Professional Phase: This is when the Ayakas show signs of being knowledgeable at their game. They'll almost disregard other attributes as their main stat continues to gain points. However, the increase in attribute starts to level down.
Level 71-85 Maestro Phase: This is when the Ayakas have truly master the art known as football and is able to withstand strong opponents. Their main stat should have been almost maxed out by now, so the rate of gaining more from attributes stars to slow down.
Level 86-100 Afficionado Phase: At this point, the Ayakas have been so good that they remain virtually unchallenged. Although the only thing they gain from levelling up is experience, they are still able to brave the storm and whatever Margaret throws at them.
