Musk has begun firing executives after his takeover.

The saga's full details:
NEW YORK, April 25 (Reuters) - Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) is nearing a deal to sell itself to Elon Musk for $54.20 per share in cash, the price that he originally offered to the social media company and called his 'best and final', people familiar with the matter said.

Twitter may announce the $43 billion deal later on Monday once its board has met to recommend the transaction to Twitter shareholders, the sources said. It is always possible that the deal collapses at the last minute, the sources added.

Twitter has not been able to secure so far a 'go-shop' provision under its agreement with Musk that would allow it to solicit other bids from potential acquirers once the deal is signed, the sources said. Still, Twitter would be allowed to accept an offer from another party by paying Musk a break-up fee, the sources added.

Twitter and Musk did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Another source says the deal can be reached as soon as Monday a.k.a today.

Judging from his record on free speech, he seems like a hypocrite, calling himself a "free speech absolutist" (with some reasonable restrictions) while paying people to silence his critics. Hence I'm wary of this purchase.

I have to say, my one regret with the Elonification of society is that Divair is no longer here with us. (Er, for the unaware, Divair is DOS'd here. I assume he's still alive.)

On the other hand, I much preferred it when I couldn't recognise Elon Musk and thought it was a random poster who decided to use a photo of himself as a flag. In fact, I cannot stress how much more I preferred things that way.

Iron Man 2 has Home Alone 2 vibes these days.

It surprises me that anyone would want to buy Twitter. It represents some of the worst aspects of the 21st century; its shallowness, wokeness, and disconnected mass idiocy.

I can't think of a single good reason to buy it besides shutting it down. What is Elon's game here and why does he want such a monstrosity attached to his name, reputation and legacy?
