Character DescriptionName: Karra Rasseri
Aliases: Soul Angel
Gender: F
Age: Chronologically 22, mentally 17
Appearance:
MotivationsGoals: Reobtain humanity and emotion? When you have no feeling, what are goals?
Fears: Do i feel fear? Is this nothingness, this emptiness, what fear is for my kind? If i never became human again, would i be afraid?
Strengths and WeaknessesSource of Power: Spiritual Machine
Powers :
Spiritual Machine Physiology: Karra is, to put simply, a human Soul in an Android body. Ghost in the Shell is real now, with added spirit powers and a real life HUD and character customization screen. Her physiology grants the following:
Enhanced Condition: Being a fully artificial bio-mechanical "lifeform" of an android, Karra is by her very nature pushed past the limitations of peak humanity in all fields. Everything from the Strength to lift 4-5.5 tons in perfect control, and punch through 6 feet of normal building grade concrete - the speed to maintain 70km/h with ease and fly up to speeds of 600km/h in base form (though the energy use is terrific, it is used for short distances at lower speeds), and the durability to shrug off anything less than armor-piercing rifle rounds or still be functioning after small-medium sized explosions or building collapses. Even her emotions and her very Soul itself are Enhanced.
Spiritual Force Manipulation/Soul Manipulation: Karra's new body is specifically designed to harness the power of the Soul as an energy source, weapons, attacks, armor, healing, you get the idea. With it she can generate energy, use blasts of Soul Energy as direct attacks, or infuse objects such as her sword or fists with it to increase attack power. It can be solidified to form a shield, as well as used heal more minor wounds or assist and speed up healing of more severe ones in biological lifeforms. She can see other souls, and when in direct contact can Read them, or absorb them, or perform a real life exorcism. Her body and sword further count as Soul-Bonded armor and weapons, as their bio-mechanical nature is partly made from the DNA of her former body, and as a result, are useless to anyone else.
Advanced Bio-Mechanical Exoskeleton: The new and most updated version of her body is a highly advanced, currently one-of-a-kind, bio-mechanical exoskeleton created from her former body's DNA, nanorobotics, and ArchAngel's proprietary Soul Amplification technology. As a result, it not only possesses the strengths of being artificial as mentioned before, but feels no less natural than her original body - and - most importantly, is fully customizable. Everything about her appearance and physical form can modified. Theoretically if she so desired she could turn into a cube, for whatever reason. More pointedly, this functions to give her the ability to analyze combat and experience data and make modifications and improvements, even real-time as they happen. This is how she gets her white-golden glowy orbs and ability to project wings for flight.
This includes fully harmonizing with her Soul Manipulation, and using the massively increased power response from emotions to radically change and min/max out of her base form into something more specialized. There are three primary "Trees" of this specialization. Assault, which min/mazes to cut defense and armor and dump everything into speed, agility and weapons systems, and glows red! Guardian, which reduces offensive and general weapons and mobility operations to maximize raw physical strength and durability and defensive measures, and glows blue! Finally, the Ascendance tree, which is currently still in theoretical design phase, but is meant to be a general across the board increase of performance, essentially combining Assault and Guardian into a third and final form. It's also commonly referred to as "Karra 2.0".
Abilities:
Way of the Sword: She does carry a sword, she does know how to use it, pretty damn well, even for an android with enhanced learning and physical capabilities. Any human master not backed up by their own meta powers would be wise to not even think about it.
Anti-Personnel Combat Training: From algorithms to throwing money at special forces veterans, she has been trained in multiple forms of what can be generally described as, anti-personnel operations.
Equipment:
Soul Breaker: Fancy bio-mechanical-spiritual sword whose existence and usage is unique to Karra herself.
Weaknesses:
Apathetic: Karra cannot feel emotions. At all. Zip, zilch, nada. Numerous experiments have been tried, including absorbing (leeching, they call it) the souls of fleshy human ArchAngel employees to try and trigger an emotional response. It hasn't worked, and while it's theorized and actual bond between the target and Karra is required, the fact remains that having no emotion not only makes her a tad useless for anything involving a personal touch, but also completely incapable of progressing beyond her baseline functionality. While typically enough on its own, its well known and not unheard of for far more dangerous entities and situations to exist, and in such an event, well. She's a bit fucked.
Control Error: Without question, the Soul Manipulation granted by this unforeseen body upgrade is powerful. It is also, however, extremely primitive and far from mastery. While it can, like anything else be blocked or deflected, more interestingly, is that any half competent magician or soul powers or such things user, could just as easily redirect it entirely, or negate it, or whatever else. Being her own power, it would be elementary for Karra to block or defeat this counter. Of course, if, for some reason she's unable to do that... like you're pointing it at a hostage and she chooses to protect them, the damage will be... debilitating. As it is her own Soul Energy shot back at her, this is, quite literally, self harm, and the best case effects from a relatively low power shot would be equivalent to trying fight through a mild tranquiller, while a relatively strong shot, would cause outright and immediate incapacitation, as well as a delightful stew of psychological pain and problems ontop of the physical.
This lack of control further extends to Karra's powered modes. Her EC enhances everything her soul - but also her emotion. Imagine if you had no memory at all of ever experiencing emotion, and, then, suddenly, you felt 10x more rage or love than any human could ever experience. How would you react? Probably the same way Karra would, by going absolutely out of control mad. Flying into a murderous, unstoppable attack doctrine, or becoming so consumed with matters of the heart what offensive ability she retains would not see itself used on the villain. Though, she would at least still be shielding innocents and allies, she'd also be trying to everyone from continuously trying to kill each other, or otherwise being easily baited into sacrificing herself and position to save someone, that sort of thing.
A Ghost in the Shell, if you will: Karra relies pretty heavily on her Soul Powers. If by chance you're immune or resistant to this, your life got alot easier. If by chance you use such things yourself, and yours is stronger, your life just got set to easy mode, as you can cause some extreme, debilitating, or if you're really strong, outright existence-ending damage quickly. And, as mentioned in the Spirit techno-babble, nonconsensual absorptions that make it to her body will cause increasingly severe and critical damage to her internally, potentially requiring outright rescue to even escape.
Background:Job: Hero Contractor for ArchAngel Technologies, currently Contracted to UNMAO-IRIS
Legal Status: United States Citizen
Backstory: On December 21st, 2012, there was much abuzz from many a fool around the globe over. Convinced the world would end. An ancient stone age civilization that went extinct long ago, who despite their primitive origins, mapped the stars and celestials with alarming accuracy, just so happened to have their incredibly accurate calendars end on this date. So the "logic" went, the world must surely be set to end on this day.
The world, of course, did not end on December 21st, 2012. Or, at least not for 99% of humanity, it did not. For a 12 year old girl in Chicago, daughter of two wealthy parents, her father a Co-Founding investor of ArchAngel Technologies headquartered within the city, the world most certainly did end on this day. As she was driven home from school by her chauffeur, and accompanying team of bodyguards, the small convoy of three vehicles was attacked, right in the middle of the city. Ostensibly, the objective of the religious terrorists was to kidnap the girl, named Karra, and use her life as a bargaining chip against her father and ArchAngel, who had gathered immense ire from the religious for their extensive and often controversial work with trying to marry incredible technology to magic, mutants, non-human entities, and even - and most egregiously - Souls.
A fight erupted in the middle of the city as her bodyguard resisted. As the battle raged on, and help came from local authorities and meta humans thwarted the attack soundly. However, in the combat, Karra was mortally injured by explosives, with significant parts of her body torn up or missing - beyond what even ArchAngel could repair. Transported to the HQ and accompanying lab in Chicago, the elite medical and technology team reported to her father and the Board of Directors that she could not be saved. Even the most advanced life support systems would only give her another 12 hours at best. The received an expected bout of silence for their news...
Her father, Argus Rasseri, stood up and signed a paper on the table before him. The team received the first words from a grieving parent, and their boss. "The first human soul-capture experiment begins now. You have until the subject's body is no longer viable." The call was cut immediately afterwards. An emergency call was placed to all staff, halting all other projects, and summoning all off-duty staff on-site immediately. At this point time, experiments had only been conducted on animals. The first test on monkeys was barely two years prior, and while the system had been developed further upon towards eventual human testing, the road map for even considering the first experiments were a decade away.
Thirteen hours later, the teams assembled in the large conference hall with the Board of Directors. It was stated plainly, that if this had not worked, Karra Rasseri was now gone from this earth. The system used was simple, essentially connecting a Soul to a computer. No body, no nothing, just a direct plugin to a computer. Argus was instructed to call for her, and as he did so, the monitor turned on, showing nothing but a black and green wall of code which seemed to scroll on and on. Finally, as the code faded, a message appeared on screen. "Dad? Why can't i feel anything?"
After a few minutes fanfare, Karra's Soul was put into stasis, and stored. The first ever soul-capture on a human subject was successful. For the next 3 years, she remained in stasis. Momentarily awakened to test a new kind of android body, being designed specifically for soul-captured humans. While a success, it was nowhere near ready to properly accommodate a human consciousness comfortably, and she was returned to stasis again for 2 more years.
Awakened once again, Karra would be in the very first iteration of what would be further developed into her current body. Designed to be a combination of bio-mechanics and a Soul, it was incapable of operating or functioning in anyway without a captured human soul, the only one currently in existence. A few months later, Argus on behalf of ArchAngel Technologies, held a press conference to tell the world two pieces of great news: his daughter was alive, and the first human soul was successfully taken unharmed from its body, and given a new, artificial one to replace it.
Testing continued for the next 5 years, alongside inhouse education, struggling primarily and immensely with her unexpected and inexplicable apathy - total lack of emotion. Though she had memories, she could not remember what emotions even felt like. Experiments from Therapy, to capturing and "leeching" souls herself, with the now far more advanced technology to do so at her body's disposal, failed. As questions from a curious public continued to roll in for years, wondering if the Soul-powered Android would be joining the ranks of heroes with her new power, it became popular consensus at ArchAngel that for the Soul Leech to work properly, she would need an actual emotional bond to the target. There was no concrete evidence for this, of course, but nonetheless it convinced the Board, who authorized a one-time experimental deployment with local agencies to test the waters.
The local deployment was a success on all levels, from the agencies point of view and especially for ArchAngel, where Karra had not only been a functioning and notable role in an operation targeting gangs in Chicago's South-Side. Specifically, she was noted for rescuing a smaller team of newer heroes like herself in the midst of a firefight, having used incredible speed to get there, durability and long-range high-accuracy combat to create a buffer for retreat, and performing first aid without the need of medical supplies. With this song of praise, the Board of Directors rapidly approved offering - with some arm twisting by dad - contractor status for her, a rare honor in circumstances such as these, and following her signing, contracted Karra to the United Nations, in part for international recognition.
Of course, she wouldn't be known as Karra anymore. She had returned with something other than experience from her local deployment. She had operated that first time without one, a hero alias.
Soul Angel.
