So what is the history of an independent Brittany and why is it independent? What is it's potential in this RP?

Major Domestic Issues - Rising far-left-wing and far-right-wing causing political tensions, conscription laws being opposed.
Major Foreign Issues - High potential of being fully dragged into the Serbian Communist Insurgency in Bosnia and the UAR Civil War
History - In the following months after the First Great War, Germany begins to slightly demilitarize, while pushing more funding toward military research and training, so that the Imperial Military, while smaller, would still remain dominant when the 1920 Treaty of Berlin (which had ended the war) took effect. The government- despite warnings from the Kaiser and his advisers- decided to focus on heavily punishing the losers in the Treaty, instead of helping stabilize them and stabilize Germany. Despite this, many domestic economic reforms took place during the 1920s and the decade was a prosperous one. However, at midnight on the 31st of December, 1929, the stock markets finally crashed, plunging the world into economic chaos over the next few months. The nation was in shock, and it fell to the Kaiser to regain control- which he did in a matter of six years. By late 1934, things were starting to ease back to normal. But the normality wouldn't last. In 1935, a small pro-communist riot on the northwest coastline turned into a full-scale revolution. The Imperial Military was called in to stop it. Officially, the revolution ended by 1937, but sparse fighting between the communist insurgents and the Imperial Military lasted until September 1st, 1940, when Polish troops crossed the border after repeated demands to recognize the communists as independent of Germany.

The Second Great War was as close to a catastrophe for Germany- as close as one could be without losing the war, that is. The first few weeks of the war resulted in the Imperial Military rapidly mobilizing before clashing into the approaching Polish and Soviet forces. The Entente was called in around a week later, and Germany began pushing the communists back to the pre-war border. The war then became a bloody stalemate- much like the early parts of the First Great War- despite the tanks and aircraft among other technological advancements. In order to break the stalemate, Kaiser Wilhelm III ordered the construction of several new types of weapons and vehicles- the Fi 103 and A4 missiles, the Panzer VIII supertank, Type XXI submarine and the ten Bismarck-class battleships, and the Me-262 jet fighter and H.XVIII jet bomber. The Fi 103 and the A4 both saw service around 1942, the Me-262 and H.XVIII around 1943 and late 1944 respectively, and the Bismarck-class and Type XXI in 1940 and 1944. The Panzer VIII arrived too late in the war- in late 1945- to be of much wartime use, but was mass produced until 1960 and modernized versions remain in the reserve in limited numbers. In addition to boosting the German military industry, the war boosted the German economy higher than Pre-Depression levels, as well as providing the public with newer inventions such as the radio and television.

The Cold War was a major victory for Germany, the Entente, and Columbia, as there were many important events that made it such. In 1947, Germany powered up the world’s first nuclear power reactor, which produced an output of 5 MW. In 1955, Germany detonated the world’s first nuclear weapon- a 50-kiloton fission device- in the German Congo. The Space Race- while with many Soviet victories- was won by both Columbia and Germany when the joint mission between the two (Apollo 11 and 12) landed on the moon together on July 20th, 1969. The economy of Germany increased greatly during the Cold War, with improvements to infrastructure and transportation. The railway system was improved, with bullet trains replacing most of the conventional ones. Nuclear power in Germany became quite prevalent, with 1/3 of Germany being powered by nuclear power plants by 1985.

However, after 1985, things began to fall apart in Germany. In late 1986, the Danube Nuclear Power Station- one of the largest in Europe at the time suffered a record-breaking 4-reactor meltdown due to construction flaws combined with coolant pipe clogging, but disaster was narrowly avoided due to the safety features of the plant's reactors and the workers who worked there. The excessive military spending began to cripple the German economy by 1990 and so demilitarization began. While having a significant effect on the economy, the military was not fully reduced to its current point until 2015. Despite the demilitarization, many experts believe that it isn’t enough to fully recover the economy, and further demilitarization is being considered.

Still waiting on a review of take three of my app.

1: You should mention personnel and at least basic equipment numbers, you don't have to but it would be nice. Take a look at Hypron's and Chewion's apps to see some good examples of both styles.

2: Probably not, you have all the domestic military-industrial complex you could possibly need.

3: They were separate Swedish (Nordbight) and Irish (New Hibernia) colonies that gained independence sometime in the late 19'th or so centuries and got sucked into Columbia's economic gravity in the early 20'th century, becoming parts of the GC.

4: If you want, I mean it would be interesting but it's in no way necessary. Perhaps have a two-round presidential election system and one or two more political parties? Perhaps the Reform Party of Perot became a thing and Trump joined them as he did becoming a politician back in the 2000's or something, now serving as a Reform Party president in a coalition with the Republicans or something.

5: There is, Columbia was established in a similar manner to the US IRL only larger, including that was IRL French Louisiana from the start. The newly independent nation started moving west gradually but suffered internal cultural divisions between the English-speaking northern free-states and french-speaking slave-states in the South. This finally ended with a Civil War, the industrial North defeating the South. However, the passage of the 14'th Amendment giving all freed black slaves birthright citizenship radicalized the white extremists of the South and a cycle of violence ensued that didn't end until the 1880's. Nearly 100 000 freedmen made their way to Liberia during this time to escape the chaos in their old homes, expanding Liberia significantly and really kick-starting the scramble for Africa. Want some more or is this enough to get you started? :)

Costa Fierro wrote:So what is the history of an independent Brittany and why is it independent? What is it's potential in this RP?

The Anglois had enough work to do keeping England, France and the Colonies together as a cohesive state. It's potential is mostly commerce and internal-policy wise. If you want to play an inward-focused nation, it's a pick for you. Sort of like Scotland or Ireland.

Nice start, large military but close to RL US according the Global Firepower, slice perhaps the manpower by some 200 000 and you're good. Also see what I wrote above for some suggestions. Also, you can probably up the population a bit as Mexico's northern territories were very sparsely inhabited until the Mexicans started settling them more or less at the same time the Americans started going west. So in this timeline it would probably have seen American settlement at the same time if the territories were seized about the same time as the IRL Mexican-American War.

Hmmmm if you absolutely want to I suppose, but I loved the Finland app.

Thing it wouldn't be "French" as Anglois is a thing. If you want something largely french-speaking then look at Africa, the two states in North America are post-Swedish and post-Irish respectively

The Government of Australasia is split into the traditional three branches.

The Executive: The Executive branch is headed by the King, who also is the Grand Duke of Australia, who has powers similar to that of the IRL French Presidency in that he is in charge of the armed forces, security, foreign relations, can sign executive orders (called Royal Orders, although these can be overturned by a majority of both houses of the legislature.), appoints the Prime Minister (In practice this is the leader of the majority party/coalition but there is no legal obligation to do this), chairs the Council of Ministers with the PM as co-chair, and is nominally in charge of the various departments and agencies of the Kingdom although most running of day to day affairs is handled by the Council of Ministers who report to the Prime Minister who, if necessary or requested, reports to the King.

The other part of the Executive branch is the aforementioned Council of Ministers which is comprised of the various Cabinet Ministers of the Government who run the various Ministries of Australasia, the Prime Minister, The Māori Chief, Grand Cheif of the Aboriginals, Grand Chief of the Torres Strait Islanders, and Senior Royals. The Council of Ministers is mostly a place for discussion and the airing of issues however there is some authority given to it such as a review of government policy.

The Legislature: The Legislature of the Kingdom is made up of the House of Representatives (lower house) and the Senate which together form the Parliament. In addition to this, the Cabinet occupies a weird status as it is primarily an organ of the legislature but it also has some oversight from the executive invested in the King's relatively strong direct control over the various ministries, departments, and agencies.

Misc: Australasia is also divided into three archduchies those being the Archduchy of Australia, the Archduchy of New Zealand, and the Archduchy of Papua New Guinea. Each Archduchy has an Archduke or Archduchess in addition to their own parliament. The only exception to this is New Caledonia which is a semi-autonomous entity with its own parliament.

The Australasian military includes a dedicated Marine Corps, the Australasian Royal Marine Corps, that is subordinate to the Department of the Navy. This force is 7,500 strong with a reserve of 1,000 and modeled after the IRL Royal Marines/US Marines. There is also a 500 strong Tier One Special Forces Unit called the Royal Marine Raider Force.

The Navy also includes its own special forces modeled after the Special Boat Service of the IRL UK.

The Australasian Guardsmen serve in a territorial defense role and are only on duty when activated in rare occasions.

The Australasian military is much higher of a priority than IRL and has a larger naval focus owing to the perceived lack of commitment from the UAK or Columbia when it comes to the South Pacific region. In addition, the military enjoys a larger domestic arms industry that produces more domestic military gear including small arms and infantry equipment.

Australasia has also started fielding its domestically designed and produced MBT, the Wombat.

The Australasian Air Force and Navy also field a limited number of F-35A and F-35B aircraft purchased from Columbia.

Founding:
In 1901, John Adrian Louis Hope became the first Governor-General of Australasia following the federation on the various colonies in the region. Then, in 1918, following the end of the First World War and riding on a high tide of nationalism, Australasia successfully petitioned to become a Principality under the British Crown with Hope becoming the first Grand Prince of Australasia and assuming more direct executive powers akin to the American President. Following World War 2, another rise in nationalism in Australasia led to the Parliament and Grand Prince petitioning the UAK to allow Australasia to become a fully independent Kingdom while remaining in the Commonwealth which was granted.

1950: King John I dies of old age and is succeeded by his son the now King Victor I.

1962: King Victor I dies of old age and is succeeded by his son the now King Charles I.

1972: Australasia opens it first Nuclear Power Plant outside of Perth.

1980: Labor comes to power for the first time in Australasian history.

1984: A low level insurgency starts in New Caledonia by French speaking nationalists.

1985: As the insurgency grows, blame is leveled at Labor who are forced from power in a snap election losing to the Liberal-United Australasian coalition.

1990: King Charles I dies of old age and is succeeded by his son the now King Victor II.

2014: The insurgency in New Caledonia comes to an end officially as the Mouvement pour l'indépendance and Australasian government sign a peace deal seeing New Caledonia given its own parliament separate from the New Zealand one it was previously under. Later that same year, Australasia completes its first domestic manned space flight when Angus Goodwin, Martha Lewis, and Dennis Rondoù successfully enter space.

2020: While on a tour of New Caledonia, King Victor II is assassinated by a radical French separatist at a public dinner. Meanwhile, the Crown Prince, 22 year old Alexander, becomes the new King.

History -

Finished

So just a few nitpicks; does the navy/marines thing really need to be a US copypaste? Australia does have units you can steal names from (Z-Special Force instead of SBS, SASR for army special forces, etc) otherwise military looks perfect
Any references to France or French wouldn’t be relevant as they’re Anglois, like you. As Hypron said, way less of a Irish-Scottish influence/immigration for obvious reasons.
There would be no grand chief of the aboriginals; they are not a unified nation, but over 200 different tribes pre-settlement. You’d more likely have a council of elders that send a representative, but they wouldn’t be considered a grand chief. Similar thing for the Māori, but unsure on the makeup of their social structures
Otherwise looks pretty good to me

Does a British-influenced Commonwealth nation use the title Archduke? Only Continental European (many Central European) states would.
