In the beginning, there was only Khoda - a being so powerful and immense that no one could even grasp him. Yet Khoda was alone, thus he set off to create a host of lesser divine beings - the Devas. He created them out of nothing and enjoyed the worship given to him by them. Yet, not all devas were content. One of them fell into pride, and became the Irbis - Prince of Darkness. He successfully convinced one third of all Devas to rebel, but could not defeat the might of Khoda. As a result, he was cast down from heaven, his followers cursed forever.

Then Khoda went to create the first human, and gave him dominion of whole Earth. But Irbis convinced the first human to rebel, which forced Kohda to cast him out. For a long period of time, humans lived on Earth; until they finally attempted one, final rebellion, building themselves a massive temple that was to be the seat of a new pantheon made of Devas.

Khoda had enough. Since humanity did not want him as their god, Khoda chose to make a deal with the fallen Devas. The earth was split; 70 fallen devas would receive one nation of men each, becoming gods of those nations and having a total absolute power over them as long as humanity would agree to it. Meanwhile Khoda chose one nation for himself - a confederation of twelve nomadic tribes. He led them out of oppression by a large neighbouring empire, to conquer vast lands. He also gave them their laws - worship of any the Devas was to be punished by death, as was an entire set of other crimes.

The tribes then invaded the lands he ordered them to conquer. After a certain period of time, the tribes proclaimed Khusrau their first king; but he became corrupt and lost Khoda's favour. Khoda then chose Farrukhsiyar, who became Emperor and during his entire reign, stayed true to Khoda's teachings. As a reward, Khoda announced that his descendants will forever be Emperors, sitting on the Peacock Throne until he finally incarnates as Emperor of Farrukhsiyar dynasty, conquers the world and deposes the daevas. . Farrukhsiyar also conquered vast lands inhabited by various pagan rajas, and subjugated them.

Descendants of Farrukhsiyar, however, were not as pious as him. As a punishment Khoda split his kingdom, and house of Farrukhsiyar remained ruling over two of twelve tribes - the Karlani and Barechi- among a sea of pagans, dominance over which was only maintained by force. Due to increased amount of disobedience, Khoda withdrew his blessings. Battles became harder, enemies - more numerous.

Due to Farrukhsiyar being of Karlani tribe, his nation became known as the Karlani Empire.

Those days were long ago. Now, a young Emperor, Alamgir, has ascended to the throne, and his troubles have only just begun.

His father had a harem so immense that even his officials are not exactly sure how many women are in it. The result was a horde of princes, who are very eager to sit on the Peacock Throne as Padishah Emperors themselves. At least four are conspiring from the shadows, waiting for an opportunity. Everything is observed by watchful eyes of Nizam of Shamshabad - an old, experienced politician with dreams to play kingmaker and one of biggest fiefs in the Empire.

To the North, the pagans are stirring again. A peaceful sect called "Chelas" (followers) was suppressed by Alamgir's father. Now, they return as a warlike cult, their bearded warriors wielding chakrams against their foes. Their only problem is their lack of unity - but perhaps among one the the misils in the khalsa there is someone who would be able to unite them?

The North is not the only place where the Pagans are rebelling. Brahmaji Rao - a friend of Alamagir from his childhood days, now a powerful Raja, has launched a revolt in the South-East. From his mighty fortresses, his mounted bands launch devastating raids upon the Karlani domains. However, for all his genius, Brahamaji lacks men to expand his campaign.

The East is not calm too. Sher Shah Bari managed to install himself as Shah of the remaining 10 tribes, and seeks to conquer the remaining two. Despite publicly posing as a perfect worshipper of Khoda, Sher Shah is a decadent hypocrite who sees the name of Khoda only as a way to manipulate his followers.

Meanwhile, young priest of Khoda has received a vision from Khoda himself, stating that due to wickedness of past emperors, Khoda decided to allow the enemies of Karlani Empire to invade and even triumph over them, hoping that through experience of suffering the tribes would turn to him. Should they do it - Alamgir will become their saviour and one of most powerful Emperors to ever sit on the Peacock Throne. Should he fail and succumb to his inner darkness - his Empire shall fall with him.

The young Emperor has to confront all this. Will you side with him? Or Perhaps his enemies and watch the Karlani Empire burn? The choice is yours!

CONCEPT:

Alamgir Chronicles is a spiritual successor to Intrigue in the Court series of RPs by Zelphos. The character - based RP is centred around court of Emperor Alamgir Shah Karlani of the Karlani Empire. You can RP any sort of court official - a mighty general, one of slave-soldiers guarding Alamgir, a prince, Nizam, priest or allied pagan Raja. You will quickly find that the court is a den of monsters. In cases where plot moves outside of the capital, I will let others RP the important lore characters like Sher Shah Bari or Brahmaji.

The world is a low Fantasy RP similar to the Game of Thrones. Non-human races almost don't exist (except for monsters created by fallen devas, but those are rare). Gods, do, however exist - but they move mostly indirectly. Magic, while present, is mostly indirect as well (see religion is magic trope), will bring you into grasp of fallen devas and characters loyal to Khoda are forbidden from using it.

The setting is loosely inspired by that of Mughal Empire, with "persianised, monotheistic" elite ruling over vast "hindu, polytheist" masses. Technology resembles that of mid-XVI century, with gunpowder weapons common, but lacking edges over bows and arrows.

I am not filling the worlbuilding thread as yet, as I want to do joint worldbuilding before we move foward.

RULES:

1) I am the OP. My word is law here.

2) Keep NS rules. This is dark fantasy, but limit everything to PG-13.

3) Please make sure to adjust yourself to the climate. Your characters are shaped by a certain society.

4) The posts are to be written with quality. One liners are forbidden.

5) No metagaming or godmodding.

6) At least one post a week is required.

Political and Military structure of the Karlani Empire:

Original nomadic confederation was known as "Khodani" (worshippers of Khoda). Out of their 12 tribes, the tribe of Karlani, tracing their descent to Karlan the Firstborn, was regarded as the grandest. Following the splintering of the first Empire, the term "Karlani" came to mean the Khodaist population under Imperial Rule, regardless of tribal affiliation.

It is important to note that for the Karlani, a noble title is always stuck between name and surname. For example, Alamgir Shah Kalrani, Ibrahim Mirza Suri, etc.

Karlani Empire is at least, in theory, absolute monarchy. It's head is Padishah Emperor, from the Karlani tribe, who, at least in theory, has absolute power. In practice, due to the fact that laws of Khoda were given by divine revelation, the power of the Emperor is restrained by them.

Heir to the throne has title of Khan (originally, this title meant a military leader chosen by Khoda. Khans led the tribes until the days Khursau). Other children of the Emperor have usually the title of Mirza (Prince).

Below the Emperor is the Vizier - the second most important office in the Empire. He is the Emperor's right hand, organising and directing the functioning of the government.

Below him are the four ministers.

- Amir Bakhshi heads the Military Ministry. He is in charge of defence, postal service and feudal system.
- Amir Besa heads Financial Ministry. He is in charge of taxation and court spending.
- Amir Allwanin is always a priest of Khoda, from a special clan that has monopoly on priestly duties. He is in charge of both religious and judicial system. He also manages the charity work.
- Amir Kud heads the Imperial House Ministry. He is responsible for both managing the life of the dynasty and carrying public works. He has an attendant, always a woman, who is in charge of the Imperial Harem - usually so large it requires it's own bureaucracy.

The Emperor, Heir to the throne, Vizier and four ministers form a governing council known as Diwan.

The empire is divided into provinces called "subahs" with governors known "zamindars". Each subah in fact a feudal fief, which the governor has to manage in the name of the Emperor. Zamidars are members of nobility, with varying titles depending on size and population of their subah. They have varying titles: Nawab (King - in case of a large fief), Mirza (prince), or if they are vassalised pagans, rajah or maharajah. The title of zamidar is not hereditary and upon death of a governor, the Emperor is obliged to designate a new one. In practice, due to corruption, local dynasties have already formed. Each zamidar has his own diwan modelled after the Imperial one, which the ones RPing the governors are free to RP.

Each fief is obliged to provide a number of soldiers, depending on it's size and population, both cavalry and infantry. Nominally the zamidar is obliged to command in person, but if he is unable to, he can designate an official called "marzban" to command in his stead. An unit provided by a feudal lord is called "Corps" and named after the lord who pays for it (ex. Ibrahim Mirza's Corps). Corpuses differ in size, but usually range from 2000 to 10 000 soldiers. Because the ruling class of the Empire originated as nomads, they prize cavalry far more than infantry. War elephants are also fielded.

There are only two branches of the military that answer directly to the Emperor. The first is artillery corps, composed of both canons and primitive rockets, headed by Marzban - e - Dukhani. The second one are the Ahids - elite slave soldiers, all cavalry, who are also charged with protecting the Emperor. Their commander is Marzban - e - Ahidi. All officers within the Ahids are slaves and are selected from among the units.

Imperial Harem has it's own system of ranks, depending on importance of the wife. There is one Empress, two Queens (those are always political marriage alliances), Ten princesses. Remaining women hold titles of consort. The harem is managed by Amira-e-Haram, always a woman and an attendant to Amir Kud - the highest office a woman can hold.

Weapons of Karlani Empire:

Weaponry of Karalnis and the pagans differs.

Since Kharlani started as Steppe Nomads, they heavily favour cavalry over infantry. Most of their forces are made of cavalry, fitted with chain mail armour (see Persian armor on reference #2), a large round shield, spear and a composite bow with quiver. Such a force is efficient against both in ranged and melee combat. As sidearms, they use curved sabres and axes (against armoured opponents).

The native rajputs prefer to fight in melee. They usually wear a brigandine type of armour, known as "coat of ten thousand nails" and prefer straight swords known as khanda and long lances. Tactics of their cavalry usually relay on shock effect of the charge.

The exception here are the Brahmaji's men, who adopted tactics of their steppe opponent. They wear almost no armour to maximise mobility and gladly use composite bows. Each warrior has 3 horses, and changes the one on which he rides to travel quickly.

All sides use war elephants - which are terrifying in melee, but vulnerable to mass musket fire.

Both Khodaists and Pagans use Katar as self defence weapon. Almost every noble carries such a dagger everywhere he goes, regardless of religion.

Originally a pagan weapon, the gauntlet sword has been enjoying popularity among the Ahids when on foot guard duty.

Distinctive part of the Imperial Army are the Khaljis. Long periods of warfare led to formation of a large amount of roving bands, which prowl the countryside and loot the locals. Such bands are filled with worst kinds of men and are of mixed religious and ethnic origin, their sole motivation being looting. During times of war, Khaljis gladly offer their services to whoever pays the most, and flock to imperial war camps should the Emperor agree to let them loot.

Khaljis fight as light cavalry, preferring mobility over protection, making round shields, composite bows, spears and yatagans their favioured weapons. They can fight with reckless abandon, but their loyalty is dependent purely on their material gain.

Unlike the armies in real world Europe, the infantry known as sepoys does not use pikes. Armament of a typical sepoy consists of a sabre, a large round shield and a musket. Sepoy formations are made of men of poor social standing, often pressed into service and have low prestige in the empire. Despite that they form bulk of the Imperial Troops and be very effective when firing via volleys of musket fire, but are vulnerable to cavalry charges should their firepower prove insufficient. Hence commanders often deploy them behind fortifications, such as a line of carts or trenches.

Sepoys are very similar regardless of religion of their lord.

The artillery is mostly focused in the artillery corps, albeit individual lords do possess their own canons. Aside from the canons, popular weapons include zamburaks and rockets - similar to modern day fireworks, with horrid accuracy, but effective to scare enemy soldiers.

Professional warriors train in Houses of Strength. Very often their training routines consist of performing physical exercises with Indian clubs while singing songs about ancient heroes. Another popular form of training is the wrestling - something that is commonly practiced among the nobles and so popular that even the Emperors don't shy from a wrestling match.

Polo, as a way of cavalry training is also popular, as is archery.

If you want to study more about weapons used by the Karlani Empire I recommend YT channels such as Razmafzar TV or Sanatan Shastravidya.

Religions:

The dominant religion of the Empire is Khodaism.

Khodaism could be classified as henotheistic religion. It believes in existence of Khoda (Lord) - a single transcendental being. No one saw Khoda, nor knows truly how he looks like. He created the universe from nothing alongside with all it's inhabitants.

The term "devas" refers to the celestial beings and includes all inhabitants of three heavens. Khoda is a deva, but not all devas are Khoda. Other devas aside from Khoda are finite, immanent and significantly less powerful. Though other gods exist, only Khoda is worthy of worship.

Below Khoda is his council of devas, created due to the fact that Khoda respects free will of his children and is willing to honour their wishes. Most powerful evil Devas are also members, albeit only as long as the agreement between Khoda and the fallen devas stands.

The core of Khodaist religion is built around the holy book known as Vendidad. It describes the early days of the world, human rebellions and covenant that Khoda made with Prophet - Khan Bahman during the days when tribes left an oppressive Empire and migrated through the desert. Khan Rustam, who led the invasion of the region appears as a character, but his time as a khan is not described.

The Vendidad contains 613 commandments that Khoda gave to Prophet-Khan Bahman, as well as list of religious rituals and laws. However, the ten most important laws are:

1: Other devas exist, but Khoda is the lord of devas. Do not worship any lesser deva. Only Khoda is worthy of worship.
2: Do not make idols to worship them.
3: Do not take the name of Khoda in vain, for his name is Holy.
4: Celebrate all the feasts and rituals as prescribed in Vendidad.
5: Pay proper honours to your parents.
6: Do not commit murder.
7: Do not lie with wife of your fellow man.
8: Do not take property of your fellow man.
9: Do not attempt to fare your fellow man into false crimes.
10: Do not desire property of your fellow man.

Khodaism centres around rituals of blood sacrifice of animals, which are believed to cover sins committed by the people of Khoda.

Only members of Mansoori clan are allowed to be priests. There is also only one temple of Khoda, located in Khusraubad. Remainder of Karlanis perform their cults and sacrifices around community altars. The cult is headed by High Priest, who is also Amir Allwanin. Among his duties is ensuring that the Emperor adheres to laws of Khoda, as well as serve as legal advice.

There are seven major feasts that Karlani are ordered to celebrate.

Another important concept is ritual purity. Khodaists are required to purify themselves with water in several cases, such childbirth, touching a corpse, eating unclean food, etc.

Khodaism believes that all gods of the pagans are fallen devas, who were allowed to temporary reign over humanity as a punishment for renouncing Khoda. Khoda, however, does not intend to keep this state idenfinetly. The purpose in choosing of the tribes was to create an Empire where one day, Khoda could incarnate, assume the throne and conquer the world, thus bringing an end to reign of fallen devas.

Critics of Khodanism often point to intolerance for other cults, harsh laws usually ending in death by stoning, authoritarian social structure and massacres committed by forces of Khan Rostam during his invasion of the region as arguments against Khodaism. They claim laws of Khoda are oppressive, the god - uncaring and cold, willing to put his believes through pain and suffering through his purposes and allow his believers to kill, enslave and plunder.

Apologists of Khodanism point out to the fact that the pagan societies were too permissive. Human sacrifices, burning of widows, sexual deviances (of course keep it PG-13) are, after all, a norm among the pagans. Khodanist apologists point out to those activities and portray the invasion and all the violence associated with it as righteous divine punishment for people who chose to listen demon gods instead of Khoda.

What is the truth, I want your characters to decide for themselves.

Enochism is a henotheistic religion which shares many of the same religious texts and figures as Khodaism, including many of the Vendidad's commandments and the Prophet Bahman. Differences arise in practices of worship and beliefs concerning the nature of Khoda's designs for the Empire. Specifically, Enochists reject the notion that Khoda will one day assume a human form and rule over the empire. Instead, they posit that Khoda is already so powerful as to destroy the lesser devas with a thought, and that Khoda allows them to exist in order to test the strength of his followers. Those that remain true to His will by the time of Judgement will be brought into Khoda's heavenly kingdom, and those who do not will have their souls sundered and left for the devas to consume

Tradition holds that the first Enochists were dissenting members of the twelve tribes, who wandered the desert for a further six months while the other tribesmen began their conquests. When the two groups came back into contact, the Khodaists were embroiled in a particularly destructive conflict with a pagan king. So that they would not create even more enemies, the Enochists were granted a protected status as "dhimmi," or People of the Covenant. The Enochists, never a large population, eventually settled as small communities within the borders of the empire. In the present, the protected status that they have historically enjoyed has been eroded, both by large numbers of Enochists converting to Khodaism and by repressive measures taken against the Chelas which have had a collateral effect on other religious minorities.

Ahimsayana (Vehicle of Peace)

1. Demographic: Predemonant religion of the Diamond Court, the Maharajate centered on the former Viceroyalty of the Eight Rivers Delta
2. Deity: The Endless and Eternal known as the Cosmic Union, is an androgynous deity combined from the "marriage" of two primordial entities into one. From the very thoughts of this entity came forth multiple universes within them. Humans are one of many species within the cosmology of religion, all beings are linked through the soul which is a piece of the Cosmic Union itself, and through the continual process of death, life, and rebirth.
3. Status on the Devas: Souls that gain false power in their rebirth alongside a long lifespan that causes them to become arrogant the longer they live. Ahimsayanian priests and laity lay regular offerings out for the devas which they believe will make the Deva realize the illusionary nature of their status, and be reborn.
4. Dietary Laws: Vegetarianism, veganism during the four-month-long holy season. The animal sacrifice of the imperial priesthood is considered highly offensive to the Sangha (community of the faithful).
5. Status on Slavery: Outright Banned, Slavery is viewed as immoral as all humans are viewed as reflections of the divine.
6. Status on Marriage: In Monogamy, two souls are bound together, and perform the cosmic ritual of creation together, once married there is no individuality in the marriage. Polygamy as a concept makes no sense as it links to polytheism, but the marriage rituals practiced by the faithful are controversial to Khondo ritualists. Any two beings can be married as both represent the divinity within.
7. Theology: Panentheism
8. Eschatology: This isn't the first universe nor will it be the last as the cosmic union engage in a phenomenon known as the cosmic dance. Breaking down and regenerating the universe against an exterior enemy known as the Misanthrope, the patron of rape, slavery, and plunder. The Misanthrope seeks to corrupt humanity, and the other realms through evil actions, and tries to trap souls in a mirror universe. The Misanthrope cares not for their subjects, but only their suffering as it feeds off the emotions of the souls trapped within until the cosmic union defeats and liberates the souls trapped inside them.
9. Sacred Texts: The Sacred Body, volumes of sacred text named after significant parts of the body (the heart, the mind, the legs, arms, mouth, and eyes) with them in totaling details various sermons, rituals to be completed, the sacred calendar, the liturgy, cosmology, the life and death of the wise one and their disciples, and the establishment of the faith across the Delta. On top of what is written the priests must learn an entire set of oral interpretations which allow them to keep the texts relevant to modern life.
10. Ahimsyanian Principles:
11. Division of Society: Society is divided into four spheres: Householders, Oathbreakers, Priests, and Monks.
A) Householders-The laity of Ahimsyanian society who adhere to the five vows
B) Oathbreakers-Those who have broken the vow of nonviolence, and are given the choice of becoming part of the military.
C) Priesthood- Those who involve themselves in the Temples and serve as communal mentors to the laity. They are responsible for giving speeches, enforcing the rituals, practicing the liturgy, and ensuring lifecycle events go as planned.
D) Monks- Men, and Women who renounce the secular world, and choose various organizations that shelter them. Some monks spend days committing to specific rituals for the laity, others focus on exorcising troublesome Devas, others focus on meditation, and a sector of monks handle the rites of the dead, and the dying.
12. Rituals:
13. Festivals:
14. Head of the Religion: Custodians of the Diamond Court, an elected council of eight with the Inheritor as a 9th and central position of secular and religious authority. The eight cities elect heads from the lineages of the established by the wise one who had achieved theosis with the endless and eternal. The ninth lineage is of the most trusted steward who helped the wise one (the human name has been lost to history) spread his teachings to the disparate cities of the Delta region.

Geography of the Empire:

Karlani name for peninsula which they live on is Bhadristan, from the river Badra. Pagans refer to the region as Vrisha, from the name of legendary king who was rumoured to be progenitor of pagan dynasties in the area.

+ Khusraubad: Capital and Holy City of the Karlani Empire. Both the political and religious centres are located here.

- Crimson Citadel (Photo): The Imperial palace and seat of the Karlani Emperor. Famed for it's crimson walls.

- Temple of Khoda: the sole temple of Khodaist religion and the seat of Archpriest. The temple is divided into three parts; outer court court, middle chamber and the holy chamber. A massive brazier burns in the outer court, signifying Khoda's presence.

Because according to Khodaist religion, only those of Mansoori clan can hold office of the priest, there is a significant Mansoori community in Khursaubad.

+ Dahari Subah - the domain of Erbir Mirza.

The lands of Sher Shah, where the remaining 10 Khodani tribes live is known as Ghondistan.

Reserving a "Chancellor" character. Concept is an elderly, experienced statesman who was also a councilor of the Emperor's father. Expect app soon.

The proper title would be "Vizier" but sure.

I probably ought to write about how the government is organised...

Probably would be a good idea, to avoid any confusion. :)

A question: would it be OK if my character was an uncle (AKA brother of previous Emperor) of the current Emperor?

Nation Name: Sao Nova Europa
RP SAMPLE: Sample
___________________
Character Name: Farhad Mirza
House/Clan/Famlilly: Imperial Clan
Religion: Khoda
Age: 52
Gender: Male
Role/Occupation/Titles: Vizier
Description:

Image

Backstory:

Prince Farhad was one of the youngest sons of Emperor [grandfater of current Emperor]. As a Prince, he received some of the best education available, becoming versed in classical texts of philosophy and poetry, mathematics and astronomy. Already as a child, he was recognized as being especially bright in intellectual disciples and would hold conversations with leading scholars of the Empire. On the other hand, despite the best efforts of his teachers, he would not be able to master neither the sword nor the bow. His weak physique and frequent illnesses meant that he had to avoid overexerting himself and would need repeated treatments and good rest.

When he became nineteen, he began his formal career in government in the service of his brother, who had become Emperor. Unlike other Princes, Farhad had avoided entangling himself in court factions. As such, he was not viewed as a political enemy by his reigning brother and avoided the purges other princes had fallen victims to. He was appointed in the Financial Ministry as a high-ranking bureaucrat, a rather unusual post for a prince but once that Farhad happily accepted. In that position, he organized a successful census of the taxpaying population and increased the efficiency of the bureaucrats of the department. So, at the age of twenty-five, he was promoted to Amir Besa. As Minister, he rationalized the administration by cutting back unnecessary expenses and increased the efficiency of tax-collection. On the other hand, he was accused by some of pocketing government funds, an accusation that was true.

Farhad cleverly used the fortune he made out of his corruption to bribe court officials and increase his political standing. His web of court allies and political clients allowed him at the age of thirty-four to be appointed Amir Bakhshi. In that position, he crushed a major revolt by a Raja in the south. While the usual way of Karlani commanders was to lead in the front and crush their enemies with fierce bravery, Farhad eschewed this. His fragile health and lack of martial skills meant that he led from some distance, in a luxurious carriage. Instead of charisma and brute force, he relied on ingenious use of logistics and grand strategy to defeat his enemy; his army was well-supplied, battles were avoided and the army would face the enemy only when the circumstances were favorable to them, and a number of tricks and deceptions to fool the enemy were used.

This triumph allowed Farhad to be promoted to the post of Vizier at the age of forty-one. He has been in that post ever since, being quite happy to influence imperial policy through his informal influence rather than making any attempt to usurp the throne. Now, Farhad has to deal with a new Emperor, his nephew. It remains to be seen if he will maintain his influence.

Strengths & Flaws:

Scholar: Farhad is a leading scholar of his age. He has pursued many intellectual interests, from writing historical essays to poetry to philosophical treatises to mathematical equations and to astronomy. His intellectualism is widely recognized.
Military genius: Farhad is a proven military genius. While he lacks martial abilities, his intellectualism has allowed him to have a grasp of logistics and grand strategy far beyond most other commanders. While other commanders play the warriors, he plays the chess master.
Clientelistic network: Over the years he has created a clientelistic network of court officials who rely on him for patronage, and in exchange support him in the Court. He has used this network to steadily rise up and to maintain a significant hold in court affairs.

Fragile health: Farhad has been suffering from a fragile health and various illnesses since a young age. He requires good rest, warmth and expensive medicines. This fragility means he eschews overly exerting physical activities.
Hated by many: Farhad has amassed much power in the Imperial Court, being one of the most powerful men in the Empire. Of course this means he has made many enemies, who wish to see him removed. With a new Emperor on the throne - who does not share the brotherly bond Farhad and the previous Emperor had - those enemies may have an opportunity to move against the Vizier.
Not a Warrior: Farhad is many things, but a warrior he is not. His skills with sword and bow are nonexistent, and he can easily be overpowered in a conflict.
Corruption: Farhad has long pocketed state funds to finance his clientilistic networks and reward his allies in the court. This leaves him vulnerable to an anti-corruption purge by the new monarch.
Arrogant: Farhad's steady rise to power and his intellectual strength have made him arrogant. He underestimates his opponents and overestimates his own abilities.

Sao Nova Europa you are accepted. My recommendation is though to change the name of the character to "Farhad Mirza" because that is how a prince in such a kingdom would be named (Mirza being a prince).

Welcome!

This looks like a fascinating and unique RP, though definitely set in an era and culture I am not very familiar with.

I shall consider making an application, perhaps for some ambitious prince who has made it clear that he does not desire the throne, as he is not the legitimate heir, but that he does seek reward and compensation for his service to the crown. Loyal to the previous Emperor, and working his way up as a general, and organizing his own fief well, he has however created a number of enemies at court, often through getting involved in scandalous affairs, occasionally using these to blackmail the husbands of unfaithful wives.

His methods are in some ways similar to the Vizier, but in other ways he is something of an opposite. Although his military success against various pagan rebels and foreign enemies have made him unpopular amongst some of the empire's subjects, his popularity with the military, and among the more warlike members of the Court, and amongst native Karlani commoners make him a figurehead for something of a more populist movement, favoring decisive victories against those who threaten the empire, and suspicious of bureaucrats (unless of course those bureaucrats favour granting autonomy to successful military leaders).

This is something of a character concept, and I'd appreciate knowing if something like this could work with your RP, and if you have any concerns, or suggestions, please do let me know. Thank you.

I love the idea!

Your character would be most likely a zamindar. Perhaps in the north, where the battles against the chelas are going on?

It is not that to get into the culture. Epimeteus's Crash Course on Mughals is where I would recommend to begin.

Added a lot to factbook.

Anyway - would someone be kind enough to make a map? I want to include you all into the process of worldbuilding. Those are going to be domains of your characters after all.

___________________
Character Name: Ragoba Jhanda
House/Clan/Famlilly: Jhanda Clan
Religion: Whatever religion the Emperor follows? (The state religion)
Age: 45
Gender: M
Role/Occupation/Titles: Commander of the Army
Description:
Image
Backstory: Ragoba Amir Jhanda was born to a clan in the west, the Jhanda Clan, which was one of the original tribes led by Khoda. His father was an influential courtier, and was a favourite of the Emperor; when his father died when Ragoba was 23, he was made a commander in the north, where he ruthlessly pursued a campaign to destroy the pagans.

His ruthlessness led him to be deeply unpopular in the eyes of some commanders, but Ragoba was also a politician, and won over the Emperor with his stories of massive victories against the pagans. His successes led him to be moved to the capital, in the Imperial House Ministry as a scribe and administrator- he was one of the more educated citizens. He then used his position to build up political support from other tribes, and with their support he was moved back into the military, this time commanding forces in the west, where his clan was (he had become leader of the clan upon the death of his father).

In this time, his superior was the Amir Bakhshi- Farhad Mirza, the soon-to-be Vizier. Recognising Farhad's political ability, Ragoba made sure to stay on his good side. It was by staying on the Emperor's and Farhad's good sides that Ragoba was able to gain more senior positions, and so at the age of 43, after Farhad became Vizier, to be appointed Amir Bakhshi.

Ragoba has purged many commanders who had been dissastisfied by his actions in the north, and has taken bribes from numerous tribes to stop them from revolting. His influence is far-reaching, but many tribes would like to eliminate him, seeing him as a threat to the tribes' power.

Strengths & Flaws:
Good martial skills; more educated than other officials; commands the loyalty of some tribes
Hated by his former officers (many of whom have taken regional government posts), and by other ministers; deeply corrupt and could be blackmailed

Thank you very much for that, I'll have a look at making an application later today. It would be good to know if the Khodaist religion has any direct allegories- for instance if it is Islam as the Mughals were, then I wouldn't have alcohol prepared in my fiefdom. I'm thinking one of the particular things grown in my fief is spices, but I had considered producing alcohol, obviously irrelevant if drinking is forbidden!

Hanovereich - your application is accepted.

Aursi - I was referring more to God of Abrahamic religions in general, while Irbis is Satan as most Abrahamic religions know him (Old Testament was a massive influence on the lore). Of course those ideas were persianisanised - Khoda is portrayed as travelling on simurghs.

The word "Khoda" is a title meaning "Lord". Originally it was used to refer to Ahura Mazda, but today both Muslims and Christians use it.

Ovstylap - Khodaist religion does not have prohibition on alcohol. It does have however dietary laws about clean and unclean animals. Pigs, seafood without scales, etc. Are big no no.

It is important to recognize that Khoda is Khoda, men are men. Just because laws exist does not mean they will be followed. Opium, which is forbidden, is often enjoyed by the upper classes.

If I was more familiar with the cultures and religions this RP draws inspiration from I would potentially, but I am not quite there. Do we have an idea of the overall population of the Empire? Also, how old is the emperor, and do we have any more biographical details about him?

That introductory IC post is fantastic!

No worries but remember - this is fantasy, RL serves merely as inspiration.

I always imagined that Karlanis proper are less than 25%. The remaining 75% are various pagan groups that are kept in line either by force or by alliances. Outside of the Khusraubad and the "core lands", pagans can worship somewhat freely as the Law of Prophet-Khan Bahman applies only to 12 tribes that entered in covenant with Khoda.

I am yet to write a biography, but the Emperor is 23 and has 427 wives at this point. I am welcoming your ideas suggestions too!
