Hlanin dau/Bienvenue a
Chieujeau

Chieujeau is a small town in Jouoangquoi, a.k.a. the Pearl Kingdom. It was recently captured by the French Army, but many of the native Jouoangquoirens are still there. The French have a large camp outside the town since the town is not large enough to house them all. The camp has everything you would expect to find in a Napoleonic era army camp -- tents, horses, obsolete weapons, etc.

Jouoangquoirens are more or less black people. They usually have bright platinum blond hair and piercing blue eyes -- but their skin color, their facial features, and the texture of their hair are similar to African black people. They revere the sea, and they have distinctive jewelry and architecture using shells and pearls as decorations. Chieujeau is not on the coast, but most buildings will still have decorative doorways covered with shells. Fish, goat meat, yams, and coffee are staples of the local cuisine. The climate is tropical. Although it is normal to see bare-chested women, full nudity is still taboo. Public expressions of sexuality are considered gauche. Jouoangquoirais society is generally conservative concerning gender, sex, marriage, etc. -- but physical displays of affection between friends of the same gender are accepted. Hard drugs are unknown, but milder drugs like alcohol, marijuana, coca, etc. are generally available. In dry weather, you may see some reddish dust blowing around from dirt roads and farmers' fields.

Chieujeau Raceway is a minor local track that has never hosted anything like NSSCRA. It has been many years since it was last repaved, the seating and amenities are very basic, and there is some damage where Murat led a cavalry charge during the French conquest of the track.

Although Chieujeau does not have the resources and amenities of a major city like Kardashia or Tundra Falls, the Jouoangquoirens are known for their hospitality and they are eager to welcome NSSCRA to their little corner of the world. It's the kind of place where people will greet you with a bright friendly smile and serve you up a nice hot meal, but the toilets are probably out of toilet paper. The French occupation has put additional strain on the town's resources, but the French have also added their own touch to the festivities, decorating the track with their national symbols, cooking up their own food to serve alongside the local dishes, and of course bringing in their marching bands.

If you are using large aircraft to bring in crews, equipment, etc. you may want to land at Chétean, which has a larger runway than the one in Chieujeau. Since Chétean is not under French occupation, you may get some questions from the local authorities, and you will probably get searched for weapons -- but you will still be allowed to land.

Tunku Walid Jubail Public Gymnasium, Kota Nibabalu, Oontaz
Thursday afternoon before the Oontaz race weekend

From the little slice of hell that was Qzvarkian Qaz, the Gale Force Racing trio were looking forward to having fun under the Oontaznik sun. Sightseeing and photo ops around Kota Nibabalu's famous church, mosque and fort were part of their schedule, as was sampling the Panopio Orchard's mangoes, but the one thing they were all looking forward to was the opportunity to play some basketball against the city's team in the professional league, the Rebeldes.

It was just going to be an hour or so of running around and shooting some hoops with the pros, but since quite a lot of drivers accepted their invitation to play, it turned into a couple of actual exhibition games - the first one pitting all the drivers against a mix of the Rebeldes and fellow pro team the Samal Butanding, and the second with KN taking one half of the drivers and Samal taking the other half. Oh, and there's a twist - the drivers don't get to change into tank tops and shorts, but remain in their firesuits throughout the game.

"Welcome to the home of the Rebeldes," spoke what appeared to be the team's captain. He and the rest of the players shook hands with the racers present, which at the moment consisted of GFR's Multiversal and AOCAR members and that of Skip Stiller Speedworks and Direwolf Auto Team. About half an hour later, Abanhfleft's UrGa arrived, followed by the Butanding, then the local Everlong duo, then the Valentians. The appearance of some very tall men and women seemed to put a mixture of amazement and shock on the faces of the pro ballers, only to be reassured by the rest of the drivers that Valentijn Constantine and company were actually gentle for a pack of giants. Thea Alvarez, one of those present who aren't playing, decided to help out those who are, writing the drivers' numbers on sheets of paper and taping them to their backs before going over to assist Jill Singletary in recording the stats.

After a short warmup (in which the drivers felt more than warm), it was time for the first game. The gym was slowly filling up with people who wanted to watch, the Hapiloppian racers among them as they chose not to participate. The tallest guy among the Rebeldes made his way to the center of the court - he would be the pro ballers' representative in the jump ball.

"And how about the drivers?" The referee gestured over to the assorted mix of firesuit wearers huddling at courtside.

"She'll do it," Jeremiah Brooke said, giving Valentijn a nudge. Everyone else muttered in agreement, leaving her no choice but to take one for the team and step forward for the jump ball. Of course, she beat the other guy to it, and thus the drivers have first possession. First points too, as Sage Caldwell connected with ex-Cup driver turned Everlong team owner Leonidas Baxter for a reverse layup. Leo may be in his forties, but his IBC-level basketball skills didn't seem to have diminished.

The pro ballers responded with eight straight points, including back to back threes, but the drivers tied things up with another Leo basket, one from Sage, and a dunk from Clarissa Samantha. (To keep things fair, the drivers decided to limit themselves to two Valentians max on the floor at any one time.) With the drivers having a big advantage in the paint (pun intended), the pro ballers switched tactics, trying to score from distance as much as possible. It seemed to work, as they regained the lead and kept themselves ahead of the drivers, though not by much. At the end of the first quarter, the score stood 25-20 in the pro ballers' favor.

The start of the second quarter saw the drivers make a run to tie things up at 32, and even momentarily take the lead, 35-32, on a three-point shot by Jeremiah (who had his long hair tied in a manly bun during the game). "Lucky shot!" shouted one of the pro ballers, but he just dismissed it as a sign of harmless trash talk - after all, that actually was a lucky shot, one which their opponents managed to respond to in kind. Ricky Lee saw the floor for the first time midway through the quarter, and while he didn't score any points, he was able to dish out a lot of assists, including an alley oop to Marcus Reynolds to reduce their deficit, 47-41. It would still be a six-point game at halftime, 52-46.

In the third quarter, the two teams traded baskets, with Jeremiah making another three off a pass by Ricky to make it 56-all. This time, he said it himself - "Another lucky shot, I suppose?" With the pro ballers' best long distance shooters tiring out, that allowed the drivers to overtake them (heh), and they would have their biggest lead of the game, 68-60, on a three point play by Ilya Tsunopin. "Did you see that? That was amazing! If only Kai Qiang was here to see it...." he said to no one in particular. Also, Stacie Houston decided that she wanted to join in the fun, and she would sub in for her husband with three minutes left in the quarter. She made a jump shot and a layup, as well as a buzzer beating three to put the drivers up 79-72 with only the final period left to play.

"Lucky shot!"

"Shut up, Brooky!"

The drivers looked to extend their lead in the fourth, but with Leo needing to rest his legs and Sage on thin ice with five fouls, that looked to be easier said than done. A huge 17-6 run by the pro ballers put them back ahead, 89-85, but Ilya and Rinzi Aogar Zakhilwal sank two free throws apiece to make it an 89-all deadlock. Several traded baskets later and both teams are at 97 with less than a minute remaining, only for the Butanding's starting shooting guard to drive to the basket, absorb contact from Sage, and still make the shot.

"Foul on the drivers' number thirteen," spoke the referee after blowing his whistle.

"What?!" said Sage, surprised.

"That's your sixth, now off the court."

"Aww, come on, man!" Sage exclaimed as he made his way back to the bench. He tallied 22 points (one less than Leo), four assists and three steals. Koshiro Kawai entered the game in his place as the Butanding player made his free throw, putting the pro ballers ahead 100-97. The drivers burned their last timeout.

"We're gonna need to score here in any way possible," Leo spoke. As he was undoubtedly the best player among the group, he appointed himself playing coach. He started drawing up a play, while Clarissa made some suggestions to increase the probability of it succeeding. Finally the whistle blew, signaling them and the pro ballers to resume the ball game.

Ilya inbounded to Koshiro, who passed it to Jeremiah, who passed it back to Koshiro, who got ready to take the shot. The defender jumped up, but it was a fake, and the Fleftic rookie bounced the ball back over to the Yeezie veteran, who himself launched the three. Clang! Jeremiah's shot missed, but Valentijn was there to grab the ball, and she passed it to Ilya, who also launched a three, but also missed. This time though, it was the pro ballers getting the rebound, and they went for a long pass, only for Clarissa to intercept it. She passed the ball back to Ilya, who once again decided to go long.... only this time, he would make it. The ref's whistle blew, and since this was just a friendly, there would be no overtime. The final score stood at 100 apiece for the pro ballers and the drivers.

"Way to go, man," Jeremiah spoke, offering his R&D teammate a fist bump. "Great work."

"Thanks, but we didn't win though."

"True, but we didn't lose either."

"Right, right."

"Nice shot, Ilya!"

"Thanks, Thea - wait, you really thought that was amazing?"

"Yeah, of course! I mean, you played well throughout, as did the rest of the team.... but you know...."

"Maybe I should leave you two alone to chat?" Jeremiah said to both Ilya and Thea. He intended to go back to his and Stacie's hotel room to rest before the second game later that day.

"We'd love that," Ilya replied. and sure enough, his teammate was gone.

"Wait, 'we'? What? Hey!" shouted Thea.

Oontaz Dert Li Ng Certainly Gives Us Talking Points

This blog was written by Derrick Carlisle, Jaguar Racing's Social Media Manager

The Oonaftco 220 at Kota Nibabalu saw the Sultanate of Oontaz Dert Li Ng finally show itself to the NSSCRA world...and while only three drivers failed to make the end, it certainly was an interesting race weekend nonetheless. There are certainly a lot of points we need to cover so for this recap, here's a list format just for this blog cause it is certainly required for this weekend.

- I'm adding myself to MemeWatch II because my words about Team Blue shooting themselves in the foot certainly came back to bite me. Drake Stevenson took his 2nd win of the season over Gwen Tracer Allison Oxton and Holly Aurora Lapia Starlight, meaning TB now has won 2 on the bounce overall. I said it and they shut me up - GGs lads and lasses, GGs.
- All three JR drivers weren't in the Top 10, but they all were in the Top 20. Michael Stefan (@Stefan07) regained some ground lost in the overall ladder with 11th, Maddison Riley-Jones (@MaddyRJ03) managed a good drive from 24th to 12th and while Alfonso Mercado (@AM64) was down in 18th, he's still on top of the ladder - now only by 3 points to Anastasia Freya Yadana Aye.
- Two words: Huuhkajat Moottoriurheilu. Yes, Kimi-Suomi's finest were only two weeks away from hosting the NSSCRA party and they certainly had their best weekend by far. You could certainly say Daniel Marx was a happy camper as he celebrated with his two drivers, Aurélia Karvonen beating Wilma von Cärinthen to a career-high of 24th and Lam Chow-Cheung just about beating Thea Alvarez to their career high of 21st. Of course, they shook hands with their competitors too, but you could certainly feel that HM is getting better by the week - and that might be scary towards the later rounds of the season.
- Both open-charters did well, with #1 Kai Qiang stan Ilya Tsunopin in 29th at the flag while Bismillah Untas beat Chris Holmes to 35th - not many open charters can say that.
- Speaking of Tsunopin, he and French Army General Joachim Murat have apparently been offered sponsorship deals by Yeezie men's care brand Mayhem, of Rinzi Aogar Zakhilwal fame. The deal would apparently see the two promote different lines of the brand, with Murat going for "Gold Rush" (or "Ruée Vers L'or" for our French friends) while Tsunopin gets "Dark Desire" (which certainly fits, not gonna lie). This will go into MemeWatch for being a little bit weird to see an army general and a kinkmeister promoting the brand, but I will say these two certainly have the looks to fit the part. (yes, I said that. No, I'm not retracting it...I may be straight, but those two are certainly...beaux hommes.

Next weekend will see another spilt, with T2 heading to Szczylek in Dod Rava while T1 heads to Chieujeau in The French Army's eastern possession of Jouoangquoi - because nothing sounds like NSSCRA than a woman and a gay couple going to a French colony in conservative China. All I can say before we go is this:Le grand cirque roulant se dirige enfin vers un pays de langue française. Que la bataille commence!

Paras Tähän Mennessä/迄今为止最好的 (The Best So Far)

Postby Kimi-Suomi » Mon Mar 14, 2022 6:32 pm

The boss could only watch on as his driver was completing an incredible shift for Huuhkajat Moottoriurheilu. Daniel Marx knew that his team was getting better and better as the weeks went on, especially with the round in KImi Kaupunki on the horizon, but the shifts that both his drivers were putting in out here in Oontaz was certainly something to behold.

Aurélia Karvonen qualified into this race from 39th but when she climbed her way up to 15th almost from the off, you knew today was going to be one of her best in this series thus far. Sure, her consistency wasn't the best but for a rookie (even one with her racing pedigree), that was to be expected. Getting into the To 10 during this race, even temporarily, was a sign of progress for the non-charter driver and Marx knew when was certainly trying her best to get herself some good points for her new team. Marx had certainly grown fond of how Aurélia operated as a driver and she was certainly someone he could get an expert opinion on anything he required when it came to Kimi-Suomi. She certainly was a calm force as well, and he certainly liked that...maybe a bit too much for his liking, but he wasn't concerned at the moment.

As for Lam Chow-Cheung, qualifying in 46th out of 46 didn't sound great but he made sure to tell the Hongkonger that starting from the back meant that "the only way was up". It would appear as though they certainly took that message to heart and like last week, LCC was certainly making some moves in the midfield. They also had a moment inside the Top 10 and while they fell back in the 2nd half of the race, Marx could feel Lam getting more and more confident in their racing ability by the week. Maybe that crash in Wollongmatta Bay focused their mind on what world they were a part of now. Maybe, one day, Lam Chow-Cheung will be respected as a racing driver...not as a freak in a mask. Maybe one day, someone will see the beauty Lam holds within...a kindness, a sweetness that Marx knew possessed no ill will towards anyone on this grid or anyone in particular...apart from those that forced them to wear that mask they now hold dear.

Things were certainly tight towards the end but both Karvonen and Lam would manage to win their duels in the end, car #71 beating Wilma von Cärinthen to 24th while car #38 beat Thea Alvarez on the line to 21st, both career highs for the respective drivers. They both made sure to shake hands with their fellow drivers afterwards, Lam even bowing to Thea as a mark of respect for someone more experienced than he, but once Marx had arrived the three of them came together for a group hug. HM was certainly climbing up the NSSCRA ladder and all three of them knew that if they kept this up, who knew how far that could all go in the Multiversal Cup...

The Team Blue Shop, Hapilopper City
The day after returning from the Sultanate of Oontaz
It seemed almost impossible to believe but Team Blue was not in the most pleasant of moods as they conducted the weekly post-race meeting. It didn’t matter that the team had won half of the NSSCRA races this season, Drake Stevenson taking two and Chris Holmes taking one. What mattered was how it happened. In TJUN-ia, Drake had to plead with his crew to give him a more conventional setup on his car, and it paid off with his first win of the year. In the Sultanate of Oontaz, the same happened. Drake and Taylor Henderson both got pissed after dealing with ill-handling race cars again during the Friday practice session and marched to the media to vent their spleen. Chris Holmes tagged along after the session ended, as well.

The result was that the Team Blue crew felt shamed into changing the cars. But the three crew chiefs, as well as team principal Amanda McAlister, were livid at the fact that Drake and Taylor went to the media to complain about the issue. But Drake and Taylor were just as livid that they had to ask repeatedly for their team to not do anything too drastic with their setups, and they felt like they had been constantly ignored.

“We had to go to the media,” Drake snapped to everyone else in the room. “I’ve asked you god knows how many times to just build off what we’ve had, and you keep doing these weird things with the car. I don’t like it, Hendo doesn’t like it, Chris doesn’t like it, and frankly I’m sick of it. We’re driving these cars and we don’t like the way they’re handling. So get it right.”

“You don’t take it to the media,” Amanda snapped back. “There’s a trust factor with our team. We’re working on something and you sabotaged it. We’ve been trying to do something for months for this team, something that nobody else in the god damn NSSCRA could copy, and you ruined it! I’m not going to stand for this kind of insubordination, Stevenson!”

“Well, I drive the car, and I won the fucking race, so you’ll just have to get over it,” Drake shot back. “Listen to me and listen good. For years and years, we won races because we didn’t overthink things. We took things simple and we won races. I’m not asking for much. Just build off what we have. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel.”

“Well, damn it, there’s other teams catching on to what we’re doing,” Amanda yelled. “You think Gale Force or VTM or Jaguar or any of those other guys weren’t watching what we were doing? Holy shit, Stevenson, we’re not in a vacuum. There’s guys that are watching us every single week. We have to shoo away people in the garage because they’re looking at our stuff a little too long. We have to shake things up because the NSSCRA isn’t HASCAR. It’s so much more advanced than that.”

“You’re overthinking things, Amanda,” Drake replied, measuring his words. “First off, we can’t just reinvent the wheel just because we think a bunch of other teams have spies. We’ve got to keep doing our own thing. We’re letting the other teams win.”

This arguing went on for way too long. Chris Holmes was getting more and more annoyed. He wanted to debrief what went wrong in the Sultanate of Oontaz but Drake and Amanda just wouldn’t shut up. Chris shook his head, and in the middle of the argument, got up and started to walk off.

“ENOUGH!” Chris snapped. “I’m getting sick and tired of this. If the driver’s pissed off, give the driver what he wants! I couldn’t handle my car worth a shit on Sunday because it was either too loose or too tight. We’re focused way too much on trying way too hard with equipment that’s already good enough as it is to begin with! I’m sick and tired of this. I’m leaving and I’m going to the movies.”

And Chris did exactly that. Chris stormed out of the meeting, pissed off at both the arguing and at Team Blue crew members completely disregarding Drake’s valid complaints. He left and drove to the Berger Street SuperPlex, the 20-screen theater a mile away from the shop, to watch a matinee of a really stupid comedy flick – a relaxer in the midst of the mayhem. He’d get yelled at the next day for walking out of the Team Blue driver’s meeting, but Chris really didn’t care. He was annoyed at what was going on and felt like it was playing a negative impact on the team.

And he was right.

A few days later, just before Team Blue left for the French Army outpost at Jouoangquoi, Chris put together an unusual meeting with his teammates and Amanda McAlister, in an attempt to settle these issues. The meeting, which took place at Andrew’s Pub, had Chris read Amanda the riot act, as well as his teammates.

“We can’t win races if we’re going to be at each other’s throats every damn week,” Chris started. “We have to let the crew guys do their jobs, but they have to listen to the drivers. This is a team. This isn’t a one-man show. We can’t make changes and the drivers don’t like them. We can’t just tell the drivers to get used to them. We’ve got to listen to each other and figure out what the problem is, and fix the god damn problem. But if we’re set on our ways that we’ve got to reinvent the wheel, we’re going to put ourselves into a corner we can’t get out of.”

Chris looked at everyone else at the table. Amanda, Drake, Taylor, all of them looked frustrated in their own way, but realized Chris had a point.

“We’re supposed to be the top team not just in Hapilopper, but the best team in all the multiverse, and we’re shooting ourselves in the foot every damn week when we overthink these setups, and when we overthink these engines,” Chris continued. “We don’t need our cars sounding like farting hornets, we don’t need trick setups that are a bitch to drive, just give us something we like, give us something that will put us up front, and we’ll be fine. Just tell the guys to give us something basic, something simple, and don’t think too much about trick setups or something silly with springs and shock setups. We do that, and those Monday meetings will be a lot happier than they have been.”

It was only the third time in the current NSSCRA season that both the Multiversal and Everlong Series were racing on the same track, which meant that Rustam Yudin finally had the chance to hang out with his Ceroatian pal still in Everlong, Pyotr Lavrentiev. As Rustam had had some experience driving at this track back when he was still taking part in the Abanhfleft Racing Truck Series (ARTS), Lav had asked Rustam for some tips about driving on this tight and winding Rowell Salcedo Circuit in between breaks in the basketball game between the NSSCRA drivers and the local ballers from the Oontaznik Basketball Association. For Rustam, it felt a little strange to hear someone else asking him for racing advice because he had been so used to being the one who had to ask others for racing advice. And in truth, Rustam hadn’t had spectacular results at Kota Nibabalu while driving in ARTS, mostly finishing in between the top 15 and top 20, so he couldn’t offer anything to Lav that could actually help the latter master the circuit. Nevertheless, Rustam did offer up some advice about avoiding trouble at the first hairpin because that was where most of the chaos would occur in the race.

And maybe Lav didn’t need anything more than that to help him conquer this track because the Ceroatian driver now driving for the Yeezie outfit Skip Stiller Speedworks actually went and won the Manggahan ni Martha 165. Rustam had been in the stands, or more specifically one of the VIP boxes, watching the race and cheering for both his friend and his old teammate Gasha Kosaryova, who by now had two race wins under her belt. Gasha had been driving at this circuit even before Rustam had even been in stock cars, and her experience showed with the way that she weaved through most of the traffic and avoided any major incidents. Still, it was only enough for her to finish right where she started, in 7th place. But it was the man who started one place ahead of her in 6th that stole the spotlight. It seemed that Lav had actually taken Rustam’s advice of taking it easy at the first hairpin to heart, and once he had successfully negotiated that part of the circuit, everything else simply fell into place for Lav.

“Congratulations on the dub, man!” Rustam said as he went down to the SSS garages to congratulate his friend. “Wow, man! I can’t believe you actually followed my advice about the first hairpin! And because of that, I probably deserve half credit for this win as well! Oh, and you won’t believe who’s here as well. Yeah, Taras is here, too!”

“Hello again, Pyotr,” Taras Lakrov said in greeting. He was wearing a black leather trench coat and round sunglasses despite the fact that it was a hot and humid night at Kota Nibabalu. “Congratulations on the win, or dub, as you call it now. I happened to be here because of the International Arms Expo in the nearby casino, and the Movement wants to procure more weapons systems not made by the Pridnestrovians. We don’t want to make ourselves entirely dependent on them, you know. Oh, and thank you for dedicating your win to the entire country. I’m sure that they’re showing this race over there right this instant, and seeing one of their own achieve success will make them all happy that they haven’t been forgotten by the rest of the multiverse. Remember, when Ceroatians are united, we are unstoppable!”

Wilhelmina von Cärinthen was angry, and she was angry at herself.

She was angry at herself because she knew that she had just dropped the ball on what was supposed to be her best chance at getting her maiden win in NSSCRA. She had just secured her first pole position of the season, maybe even the first pole position of her entire NSSCRA career! How many years had Wilma been in NSSCRA at this point? Two and a bit? And this was only the first time that she had been the fastest out of all the rest of the drivers in this competition, and at a track that she knew well too? This win should have been in the bag; of that she was sure. But, as fate would have it, she would immediately get swamped by her competition right on the first hairpin, and she would have to fight to get back into the top 5, the place where Wilma felt she deserved to run in this race. And, to her credit, Wilma looked like she was actually going to be able to get in there. Despite all of her setbacks, she was able to claw back all of the places she had lost in the opening laps, and with only a quarter of the race left to run, Wilma had gotten herself as high as third place.

And then Koshiro Kawai of all people had to collide with her.

In ARTS, Koshiro had mastered the Rowell Salcedo Circuit, having won there twice (including in his championship-winning campaign in 2030), but today he was just struggling out there. It had to be his equipment, many people surmised. Even though Duisdorf may have had three years to develop their NSSCRA contender, there were still some problems that the team wouldn't encounter until their car actually took to the track. And sometimes a setup that worked well for a racing truck didn't carry over well to a stock car. Koshiro had been complaining of feeling loose coming out of the sweeping curves, and despite numerous attempts to rectify this in the pits, nothing seemed to work for the driver of the #58 Duisdorf, causing him to fall down the order. Wilma had just finished lapping Koshiro as they rounded the first sweeper, and she looked like continuing her way back to the leaders when Koshiro lost control and drove into the barrier on the right. The forces of the impact meant that the #58 Duisdorf bounced back on to the track, and in doing so, it clipped the right rear quarter panel of the #98 Luxur. "Holy shit! What the fuck?!" Wilma exclaimed when she felt the impact. The Luxur spun around maybe twice or three times before stopping, and when it did, Wilma was facing the wrong way, right into Koshiro's wrecked car.

"Are you okay, Wilma?" her crew chief Deckard Sullivan asked. "That looked like a nasty spin."

"I'm all right," Wilma replied. "Brain got shaken around a little bit but otherwise, I'm fine."

"Can you turn your car around and bring it in? We think you're still good to continue but we just wanna make sure that we're not missing anything our telemetry is."

Wilma turned the steering wheel, engaged the clutch and the brakes, and shifted up and down the gears. "Yeah, I think I can get out of here," she replied. "But I think Koshiro's race is toast. He's fine, but his car certainly isn't."

"Well, thank God for that," Dec Sullivan said. "Olay, Wilma, come in and pit. It's still possible to salvage something out of this race."

If only it were that easy. The time it took for her pit crew to repair the damage she had sustained and check for anything that the sensors and telemetry had missed meant that Wilma dropped all the way to last place, and despite her best efforts, she could only muster up a 25th place finish. Not bad considering what else could have happened, but given that Wilma had pole position and looked like she had a chance to actually get the win, she was absolutely furious with herself for letting it slip from her fingers.

Wilma slid out of her car and stormed off back into the UrGa garages. Nobody stopped to talk to her because they knew what was going through her mind and they didn't want to be in the firing line of what was to come. Wilma took off her helmet and tossed it aside instead of carefully setting it down like she normally would, and then she took a deep breath and shouted, "PUTANG INAAA!!!"

Wilma was not present for the post-race press conference. At least UrGa were forthright about the reason why: she wasn't in the mood to face the press after what had happened near the end of the race. Indeed, Wilma was nowhere to be found on the track, as she had already left on her motorcycle with the hope of riding up and down the countryside to clear and cool her head.

The SANDIWA military exercises between the 14th Combined Arms Brigade of the Royal Oontaznik Army and the 247th Guards Armored Division of the Pridnestrovian Army were progressing well, at least as far as the commanders of both units were concerned. The exercises were designed to foster inter-army cooperation in the form of tactical and strategic coordination between two armies with drastically different training and equipment, but it was also used as an opportunity for both armies to train themselves in fighting against an enemy with similar training and equipment to their partner nation. At the moment, the 247th Guards Armored Division was playing the role of OpFor, or Opposing Force, against the 14th Combined Arms Brigade, and the 14th was currently doing a good job of holding off the "advances" of the 247th.

But the progress of either unit was not what was currently grabbing the attention of their commanders. That fell on a flamboyantly dressed man of average height, with the feathers on his bicorne hat making him look taller than the other officers. He was wearing a military that would have been more at home on a battlefield two centuries ago than the present day. His face and bearing suggested that he was also a military officer, but he didn't come from any branch or army that either the Oontaznik or Pridnestrovians recognized, especially not Lieutenant General Mikhail Leonidovich Pankavuranov of the 247th Guards Armored. He was, however, familiar with the other man with the flamboyantly dressed officer. The man in the three-piece civilian suit looked like he was guiding the bicorned officer around the training site, pointing out things such as the tanks rolling across the hilly countryside and the helicopters supporting the vehicles and the infantry. The officer finally walked over to a nearby balcony to watch the exercise, prompting the civilian to walk over to where Pankavuranov was.

"Mikhail Leonidovich Pankavuranov!" the civilian said in greeting as the two of them wrapped each other in a classic Slavic bear hug. "I see you've finally gotten that second star on your shoulders that you so richly deserve!"

"I don't know if I can say that I truly deserve them just yet, Yakov Leonidovich," Pankavuranov replied. "Surely you must have heard about my brother's retirement."

"Ah, yes, of course," Yakov Leonidovich Yurievsky nodded his head. "I knew that he had to retire because he had reached the mandatory retirement age, but I truly believe that Vsevolod Leonidovich could have still led the 247th Guards Armored for at least five more years. Not to say that I don't think that you wouldn't be just as capable and competent as him, Mikhail Leonidovich, of course. I hope you know what I mean and didn't take offense from it."

"None taken, Yakov Leonidovich," Pankavuranov waved off. "Then again, I don't think I would have made lieutenant general if Volya hadn't retired. After all, a Pankavuranov must always lead Panka's Boys." The 247th Guards Armored Division had gained the nickname "Panka's Boys" after it had gained a reputation as the most effective tank unit in the First Great Patriotic War of 1941-47 while under the command of Mikhail's grandfather, Colonel Iosef Leonidovich Pankavuranov. A member of the Pankavuranov family had always commanded the 247th Guards Armored since then.

"So, Yasha, what brings you to the Sultanate of Oontaz?" Pankavuranov asked. "And who's your guest?"

"The answers to your two questions are actually one and the same," Yurievsky replied. "My guest is none other than Napoleon Bonaparte."

"Bonaparte? The French general and emperor?" Pankavuranov asked incredulously.

"The one and only," Yurievsky nodded.

"How is he still alive?" Pankavuranov asked. "Isn't he supposed to be dead by now?"

"Oh, you know how our world is by now," Yurievsky replied. "Time isn't just one smooth current going from one direction to another. It has ebbs and tides and doesn't go as fast or slow in two different places. But even then, I think the esteemed general and his army took a wrong step somewhere, and now they've gone elsewhere in both time and space. Or at least that's what I've picked up from the gossip around the NSSCRA paddocks."

"NSSCRA? Isn't that the thing where people go round and round in circles for three to four hours? What's Napoleon got to do with that?"

"Some sort of harebrained scheme cooked up by one of his generals, I think," Yurievsky said. "They decided that if they were going to be stuck in a different place and time that they were used to then they might as well have fun while doing so."

"I fail to see how going around in circles could be constituted as fun, even by someone from a different time than ours," Pankavuranov muttered. "Then again, horse racing is pretty much the same thing. The only difference is what they're using to go around in circles. Anyway, what are you and Napoleon doing here in the Sultanate? This isn't one of your harebrained schemes, is it?"

"Perish the thought, Misha," Yurievsky snorted. "I am simply taking advantage of a huge business opportunity that had been dropped on my lap almost literally. Remember the International Arms Expo in the casino near the race track? I took the Frenchman there to let him see how far our military technology has advanced since his time. I showed him the assault rifles and how just one rifle could fire off as many rounds as an entire line of infantrymen. I even showed him that FAMAS bullpup and told him how that was the new standard rifle of the present-day French Army. Hard to tell if he was actually impressed or not, though. He probably has a mean poker face when he's playing against his generals. Anyway, I think he's taken particular interest in the howitzers. Can you blame him, though? I'm pretty sure our howitzers are more accurate and fire at faster rates than his own cannon. And I think his ears perked up at the mention of motorized infantry and armored cavalry. He's probably still drinking in the sights and trying to get used to the fact that modern cavalry doesn't actually include any horses now."

"Are you close to striking a deal?" Pankavuranov asked. It was clear from the way that Yurievsky was behaving that he was relishing the thought of supplying weapons and ammunition to an entire army.

"Once again, it's tough to say," Yurievsky admitted. "It's tough trying to read Monsieur Bonaparte. Usually I'm good at reading potential clients, but this Frenchman is an enigma to me at the moment. That's why I'm planning to go to that place that his army had conquered, some place called the Pearl Kingdom or something like that, I don't know. If anything, I can continue pushing him about it. And who knows? I might even offer the actual locals something to make them feel safe too!"

"Ah, Yakov Leonidovich," Pankavuranov shook his head. "You really are a true capitalist, aren't you? You are exactly the kind of person the old Communist propaganda machine warned us about! Trying to profit off of both the oppressors and the oppressed!"

"Who said anything about those Pearl people being oppressed? If anything, I'm offering them the means to either obtain or maintain their freedom! As the capitalists say, it's a win-win situation!"

As Rinzi knelt to pray at the Golden Mosque of Kota Nibabalu, he felt a deep sense of peace. One of the difficult things about traveling on the NSSCRA circuit was staying true to his Islamic faith in countries that did not have many Muslims. The imam here spoke in a different accent from the one at his regular mosque back home, but the prayers were comfortably familiar. A few fellow Muslims from his crew had come too.

A small group of fellow worshippers recognized Rinzi and told him with big smiles on their faces how blessed they felt to pray together with him. "It is a blessing for me too, to meet my Muslim brothers and sisters," Rinzi said.

Even at the track or out and about in the city, being in a country with a strong Islamic influence was nice. It was no trouble to find halal food.

The Sherpalanders had a tough time navigating the twists and turns of the Rowell Salcedo Commemorative Racing Circuit. Rinzi was the best of the bunch in 14th, but that was nothing special for him. His most special memories from Oontaz would be the time he spent out of the driver's seat, exploring the city and meeting the people.

Tsering had an especially rough weekend. She struggled to find the right balance between aggression and carefulness, to find the best lines through each of the sharp winding turns -- and then as if she wasn't having enough trouble already, the lights on her dashboard that her crew used to communicate with her went on the fritz. They were sort of still working, but they'd flicker or they'd stop working for half a lap and then come back on. Being unable to rely on the lights meant she had to be more careful to check her surroundings to avoid causing a crash, and that was distracting, and it made it more difficult to race aggressively.

Qiang was struggling with a different kind of problem: not staring at Ilya Tsunopin, no matter how eye-catching the 69Xer's attire might be. Qiang did not want to make eye contact with Tsunopin, because then Tsunopin might think they had some kind of connection. But it was hard not to stare when Tsunopin made such an effort to draw attention to himself with his gaudy outfits and his loud proclamations of love.

"What is with that guy?" Qiang mouthed to his crew chief, as he caught Tsunopin staring at him once again.

Chang shrugged. "Is it really any worse than the stuff Mendok did when you guys were dating?"

"That's different," said Qiang. "Mendok is sexy."

"Tsunopin can't help it if he's not sexy," said Chang. "You are always campaigning for gay rights. You can't hold it against him if he is gay."

"He put a lot of effort into growing out that beard and picking out those clothes so he can look the way he does," said Qiang. "He's really gross, and it's not just being a guy."

Rinzi had felt very much at home in Oontaz, and that made it all the more jarring when he stepped off the plane in Jouoangquoi and was confronted by a crowd of statuesque dark-skinned people wearing big collars decorated with seashells in elaborate desings -- and not much else. He caught himself staring at one of the local women, and immediately blushed and looked away. He could see his crew, Tashi, and some people from the other NSSCRA teams also looking around bewildered.

Kai Qiang was blushing too as a half-naked woman walked up to him and nervously asked in broken English if she could have an autograph. The woman's husband came over to meet Qiang, and she explained apologetically that he was a racing fan, but he didn't know any English. The two men shook hands and posed for a selfie, and the Jouoangquoiren didn't seem the least bit concerned about Qiang seeing his wife's breasts.

Meanwhile, Tsering was shyly sneaking a peak at a very athletic man in a loin cloth and some fancy jewelry, and a Beihua media crew was grumbling about how much they would need to edit their footage to blur out all the nudity if the locals didn't put some damn clothes on.

By the end of the evening, Tsering Chu was huddled in bed with a terrible upset stomach after eating some stew that was too spicy for her, Kai Qiang had tried some target practice with a group of French infantrymen, and Tashi Zakhilwal had allowed some local girls to dress her up like a Jouoangquoirais woman. They had great fun braiding her hair and picking out jewelry. Rinzi was so shocked when he saw her out in public dressed like that, he forgot to watch where he was going and walked face-first into a wooden pole.

"Oh, honey, are you okay?" Tashi cried out in surprise.

"I am not hurt," said Rinzi. "But Tashi, you can't walk around dressed like that!"

"It is normal here," said Tashi.

"But God commands us to be modest!"

Rinzi was very upset, but Tashi liked the Jouoangquoirais ethnic costume and she was not in any hurry to cover up. For one thing, it had been a scorching hot day, and the heat was still lingering in the air. Some people who knew Tashi, but had never seen her dressed that way, did amusing double-takes -- but that was okay. Sometimes it was good to shake people up a little.

NationalAirways.qqz Stock Car Grand Priz of Qariq, Pryzsenko Autodrome, Pryzenko, Qzvarkian Qaz :: There were high fives all around in the Team Tropicorp camp after qualifying for the NationalAirways.qqz sponsored event at the Pryzsenko Autodrome in the Qzvarkian Qaz. The teams lead driver and newest member #2 Centur Tiones had qualified the Tiones Lumber Dart in 3rd place and seemed a real threat to compete for their first race victory of the season. Teammate Jenna Logan - the only Team Tropicorp driver to record a victory in the Multiversal Cup Series during NSSCRA Season 11 - was close behind in 6th position. The team had fielded an extra car for Cocoabo #28 who qualified in 18th position while Maddie Alexander was 24th. With two drivers in the Top 6, however, Team Tropicorp had the speed to compete in the Qzvarkian Qaz.

On race day Tiones and Logan would maintain their speed though were eventually overcome by their opposition and slipped out of race winning contention and instead found themselves fighting to stay within the Top 10. Only one of the two drivers would succeed in that battle with Tiones hanging on for a 9th place finish while Logan dropped outside the Top 10 to twelfth position. The downward trend from starting position would be shared by Maddie Alexander and Cocoabo #28 who slipped to 25th and 27th respectively.

Oonaftco 220 at Kota Nibabalu, Rowell Salcedo Commemorative Racing Circuit, Kota Nibabalu, Sultanate of Oontaz :: There would be a welcome reprieve as the team would drop by their shop in Tropicoast on the way to the Sultanate of Oontaz for the Oonaftco 220 at Kota Nibabalu. It would be the first Triple Header race weekend of the season and the team would be traveling alongside not only the Everlong Contenders Series teammates but also those from the AOCAR Stock Car Series.

At just under 80 seconds per lap it was a long Vilaye Energy Drink Pole Qualifying session from the Rowell Salcedo Commemorative Racing Circuit but one that would see all three Team Tropicorp drivers qualifying inside the Top 20 led by Jenna Logan in 8th place. With the NSSCRA circuit back in Atlantian Oceania for the first time during its 12th season, Logan's usual green twii.tur Multiversal colors were replaced by the common colors for Tropicorp with the addition of the stylized twii.tur logo on the hood of the car.

Logan would put the new-look #3 machine in the 8th spot on the grid leading the three-car Team Tropicorp contingent with Centur Tiones posting the 15th fastest time in Vilaye Energy Drink pole qualifying and Maddie Alexander the 17th fastest time. Unfortunately, Logan would have major issues on race day and after fighting back from an earlier pit road speeding penalty to climb back up near the Top 10, Logan would get knocked off track with just two laps to go and finish deep in the field in 34th position across the stripe. It was a strong day for the sophomore driver Maddie Alexander, however, who brought the #1 home with a Top 10 finish and maintained the 12th position in the NSSCRA Point Standings. Although Alexander hasn't been the flashiest driver for Team Tropicorp thus far in the season her consistency continues to have her as the highest placed driver for the team in the Regular Season standings.

However, with two drivers outside the Top 16 Team Tropicorp continues to seek more speed. After a weeks rest back home in the Cocoabo Forest, Team Tropicorp will hope to bring Cocoabo #28 back to the track for the race event at the Chieujeau Raceway as an Open Charter driver.

Everlong Series :: The Qariq 175 would be another strong performance for Team Tropicorp drivers in the Everlong Contenders series as Cocoabo #37 and Jixaka Motorai would both finish inside the Top 5, making up for the fact that none of the Team Tropicorp Everlong Contenders Series Drivers had qualified inside the Top 10 for the race. The highest qualifying driver for the team was Bryan Harrison in the #5 who had Qualified in 12th place but the Newmanistan based driver suffered damage from an early race incident and limped home to a disappointing 27th place finish.

The following race would be the Manggahan ni Martha 165 in the Sultanate of Oontaz and once again Team Tropicorp would place two drivers inside the Top 5 - and once again their highest qualifying driver would be their lowest finishing one. After starting the race in fifth position, Cocoabo #37 would slide down to the 18th position at the finish. On the positive side, however, both Jixaka Motorai and Bryan Harrison moved up in the standings to contend for the victory with Motorai finishing thir behind Pyotr Lavrentiev of Skip Stiller Motorsports and the Jaguar driver Alice Jepkosgei. Teammate Bryan Harrison finished just one further spot behind in 4th.

With consecutive Top 5 finishes, Jixaka Motorai moved to within 7 points of the Regular Season points leader Lexi Patterson and remains in 3rd position overall. Bryan Harrison's Top 5 allowed the Newmanistani driver to climb back within 7 poitns of the 16th place in the overall standings heading into Dod Rava.

Round 7 has arrived to NSSCRA 12 (yes, it's Round 7 already) and this time, we have another split on our hands between the Multiversal Cup Series and the Everlong Contenders Series. With both series filling up Chase spots at a quick pace, the pressure is starting to build for those wanting to be in contention for a crown. The Everlong would be in Dod Rava for the Hoop-cola 175 while the Cup was in the Pearl Kingdom and Chieujeau in Jouoangquoi, a possession of The French Army - L'Armée Française.

Qualifying at Chieujeau Raceway was certainly interesting at a track filled with both locals and Frenchmen alike, everyone coming to enjoy le cirque mécanique we call stock car racing. Still, we had fun mingling with everyone who was curious about what this sport even was and how inspiring it can be to everyone...even to those of limited clothing like the native females of the region. Anyway, this Qualifying session would see all three of our drivers mixed into the grid in a way that will certainly make things interesting for tomorrow - Alfonso Mercado (@AM64) will be battling to keep his points lead from 10th, Maddison Riley-Jones (@MaddyRJ03) looking for more good points from 20th and MIchael Stefan (@Stefan07) suffered issues with the suspension of his car and as such, #07 will start from 46th - dernière place, if you will.

It was Sherpa 1-4, Cassie 2-3 as Kai Qiang took pole over Maddie Alexander (Tropicorp), Stacie Houston (St. Kanye) and Tsering Chu but in a grid as mixed up as this one, one team taking a few headlines here and that was, once again, Huuhkajat Moottoriurheilu. Daniel Marx's Finnish Hype Train has certainly gotten steam after their performance back in Oontaz last weekend and with their home race just on the horizon, they were certainly hoping to put on a good show once more. That would certainly happen today here in the French Colony, with Aurélia Karvonen qualifying for another race in 23rd and Lam Chow-Cheung put in a cracking shift to qualify in 19th...sharing row 10 with Maddy. GGs guys, you've certainly made it so far already...we at JR will make sure to shake hands with our Suomen counterparts before tomorrow's race.

Meanwhile, in Szczylek, the Everlong certainly produced an interesting Saturday and it would start from qualifying. Pyotr Lavrentiev took pole but the names behind him were certainly all good - Lexi Patterson, Gongming Gao (@GG70) and Alice Jepkosgei (@AJ96). Ilmari Pëkannen was 10th, Kaarina Salo 14th and Robin Dragonovic (@RD97SNL) down in 16th. The race itself would see 5 retirements, all from Kharao and Kannap, and this race would certainly be a watershed moment for us all. AJ would end up in 11th, ahead of both Ilamri (13th) and Salo (16th) but dropping down to 3rd overall, but she certainly wouldn't care about that when the flag came down. Robin and Gao managed to work together towards the end and on the final lap, the teamwork certainly made the dream work - the bump draft from Roddy helping us secure a 1-2...with Gongming Gao on top. North China's own had finally gotten a race win of his own and my goodness, he certainly deserved it.
JR: THAT'S IT! WOOOOOOOOOOO!
GG: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAH!
JR: P1 Gongming, P1! Well done there, mate, a cracking performance! 你是比赛的胜利者!
GG: Thank you, guys! Robin certainly helped there and I am certainly grateful...是的!是的!是的!

The sight of car #70 spinning on the line in the celebration was certainly a sight to behold...as was the celebrations the drivers shared, Gao and Robin jumping around together and AJ joining in on the fun in a great moment for us all. Of course, AJ would give him a kiss on the cheek before he went up to collect his prize and claim his glory, the anthems of both North China and TJUN-ia played in his honour. If his parents are still watching the exploits of their son, I hope they can look to the heavens and say that they are proud of Gao Gongming - because we certainly are.

Race day in the French lands tomorrow - laissez la magie de ce sport nous séduire tous. A plus tard!

Just a few laps to go in the Oonaftco 220 in Kota Nibabalu, Oontaz. Drake Stevenson is in the lead, with Jeremiah Brooke and Stacie Houston, NSSCRA's power couple, within striking distance. Sound familiar? This was the same situation that unfolded in the dying moments of the Exhibition at the Proving Grounds about a couple of months ago, only at a road course rather than a superspeedway. Could Jeremiah power past Drake for the win like he did before? Is Stacie going to steal one from under her husband's nose this time? Or will Drake outlast the two to get his second dub of the season?

Wait, what if some Evelines were thrown into the mix, just to make things more exciting?

Joining the battle for the lead and potentially the win are the Stacemiah pair's fellow former champ Anastasia Aye, her teammate Gwen Oxton, and..... Holly Starlight? The Gardener, while literally cold, was figuratively on fire today, spending a lot of time up front as she tries to go from last place in the previous race to first place in this one. As a friend, Jeremiah felt a little glad to see Holly where she hasn't often been, but as a racer, he can't just let her slip by and deny him victory, so he raced her hard, nudging and trading paint at every opportunity, but clean enough to not cause her to crash.

""Come on! Damn, you're pretty tough," Jeremiah said as his and Holly's cars made contact once more.

"Tell me about it," Stacie radioed back. "And it ain't just her, Anastasia over here is giving me some trouble too," she continued, herself initiating some contact against her Valentian opponent.

"We gotta keep pushing, Stace, time's running out."

"Yeah, and don't forget, Drake's still up front, and you and I both know that guy means business." The Hapiloppian was indeed doing all he can to survive the last few laps, even as the Evelines and Chadwicks continued their battle behind him. Unlike last season, where he and his fellow Hapiloppians struggled in the regular season before going on a rampage in the Chase, they have racked up two victories in the first five points races of the season, and are on pace to make it three in the first six.

Three laps to go. Gwen threw a block on Jeremiah, while Stacie tried to find an opening between Holly and Anastasia. Two to go. The Chads formed one line, the Evelines another, with Drake and his lone Preston doing his best to stop the charge. White flag. Gwen started to pull ahead, while Jeremiah kept beating and banging with Holly, and likewise Stacie with Anastasia. Drake didn't seem to be bothered though, powering through each turn of the twisty track, the others trying to outduel each other and leaving them no time to catch up. He would earn win number two of the season, with Gwen in second and Holly completing the podium with a career high finish. The three former champs took fourth through sixth - Jeremiah, Anastasia and Stacie in that order.

Image

After the race, the Stacemiah pair visited the podium and gave their congratulations to those who finished ahead of them. "Looks like someone's getting into the groove early. I really think you'll be the driver to beat in the Chase," Jeremiah said, shaking hands with Drake. Stacie told Gwen, "Great battle that was, I like how you guys didn't hold back and gave us quite the fight." They also told Holly how happy they were for her, but remembering her nature, they didn't initiate any contact.

Meanwhile, Thea Alvarez found herself bogged down in the middle of the pack for the second week in a row, finishing just 22nd. And for the second week in a row, while she lamented her finish, she saw Lam Chow-Cheung celebrating theirs. Thea accepted Lam's handshake, but didn't speak much to them or to anybody else. She can't just be okay with this, running with the newcomer teams. She's part of Gale Force Racing, one of the notable teams in the series. And she's one of the winningest drivers and a perennial Chase contender. Just because she's gotten herself back in the Chase with a win last month doesn't mean she's content with coasting through the rest of the regular season. If she was, then might as well just start and park, right?

Image

Despite finishing just 29th, Ilya Tsunopin must've had lots of fun during the last few laps, as he found himself battling the very person that inspired him to enter the NSSCRA in the first place: Kai Qiang. Ilya wasn't able to make much contact with Qiang while of the track, so he contented himself with sticking to his idol's rear all the way until the checkered.

Image

Ilya winked at Qiang just as both of them were able to crawl out of their cars and remove their helmets. Not even waiting to see his idol's reaction, he immediately went over to Thea and tried his best to comfort her, seeing how bothered she was with her finish.

"It's alright, there are still other races to come."

"Yeah, I suppose."

"Just keep working hard, and you'll get your desired results eventually."

"Thanks, Ilya."

"Anytime, just call me when you need me."

"Um.... Ilya?"

"Yes, Thea?"

"You... um.... you can stop hugging me now."

"Oh, right. Of course."

Thea appreciated Ilya's encouragement, and though she had started warming up to him as a friend, she still sometimes became uncomfortable with how touchy-feely he could get sometimes. That hug, while done with good intentions, definitely felt awkward..... so how come, during the team's flight and subsequent stay in the Pearl Kingdom for their next race, could it not escape her mind that she really wanted another?

Virhe...? (A Mistake...?)

Postby Kimi-Suomi » Wed Mar 16, 2022 5:30 pm

It was just supposed to be another conversation... But to Daniel Marx, it turned into anything but and he only figured out why a few hours after the fact.

Initially, he was...pretty happy after HM's most successful Saturday thus far with Lam in 19th, Karvonen in 23rd, the T2 gang getting more consistent points and the AOCAR unit just trying their best to get ready for next week. Next week was on everyone's mind at the moment, HM's first race at Kimi Circuit and all, and the prospect of getting back to Kimi Kaupunki and being welcomed as sankareita certainly spurred everyone on...even Marx and Lam, TJUN-ian by blood. Getting a HM car into the Top 20 in Qualifying was certainly another good feat to add to LCC's growing list of debut season accolades and he made sure to give the masked one nothing but praise before he went off to prepare for tomorrow.

But what he was looking forward to most, maybe more than he should've, was talking to his GOAT - Aurélia Karvonen. After all, 23rd was her best performance on a Saturday thus far and that deserved to be celebrated too. She's certainly been improving as a driver in this category from week to week and when she entered his office at about 3:30 local time, he knew they would certainly be going in-depth into how this sport worked - driver to boss, sure, but also friend to friend.

They indeed would go in-depth, talking about how the ride was feeling on this old track and the culture of the area, to even topics such as Mayhem and the fact that Tapio Pellonpää and Marjatta Särestöniemi would be joined by a Swede, Georg Lundberg, next week - and oh yeah, plenty of talk about next week, as impending as it was now for everyone here at HM.

But during this long conversation, lasting until 5:30 with plenty of coffee on show, Marx couldn't help himself from contemplating the GOAT herself...a legend of racing in her homeland and someone he certainly looked to for some sort of stability and experience for a debutant team. She may be considered a person that won't take any shit at all from anyone, but she was also a remarkable human being off the track, someone Marx found himself thinking as...warm, lämmin, and stuff like that. He almost didn't want her to go once this talk was over but jobs had to be done, Marx made sure to let her know that "you can call me Dan, I don't mind".

It was only after a few hours when the post-qualifying meetings were done and he had some time to reflect, that he realised what he had done. It was only then, remembering what he thought during his meeting with #71, that he remembered where he had seen this feeling before...way back in the past, at Jungle Fever I, and a certain driver named Alfonso Mercado. He didn't think he would see Cupido once more, after all of this time since that day at the ACC, but here he was...and this time, the shot was fired straight into Marx's heart. Hänen sydämensä.

He knew it may be a mistake...but he also knew that convincing his heart of anything else would be for nought...the next steps will have to be taken with much consideration...for his sake and all.

NSSCRA 12 - Oontaz

Pegasii Shines in Oontaz Triple Header

Image

Mister Kendi 220, Rowell Salcedo Commemorative Racing Circuit, Kota Nibabalu, Sultanate of Oontaz :: After winning the season-opening Lopinka National 303 presented by Racing Collectibles, journeyman Vilita and Turori Motorsports driver Jama'obo Pegasii had the perfect start to the new AOCAR Stock Car Series Season for himself and the Vilaye EnergySport Racing Team, coming out of the weekend with a perfect 50 points and a guaranteed spot in the twii.tur AOCAR Shootout. Pegasii would also come away with something else: Sole possession of first place in the all-time AOCAR Stock Car Series Race winners list. Pegasii had finished the first season of AOCAR Stock Car Series action with two victories - the first in the Argo Petrol 350 at the Lannisburg Complex in New Northwesteros and the second in the RTC 400 at the Ruwani Motor Speedway in Banija - one of the Crown Jewel events on the AOCAR schedule. Pegasii's two victories were equalled by Abovian driver Annike Jensen-Aakstern; Yeezy driver Glen Reid, Nykipiflugpuu's Kuldar Erakkpyseppä and Devin Whitaker from Hapilopper who all recorded two victories in the inagural season. Now, with three career victories, Jama'obo Pegasii was - at least momentarily - in a league of their own as the series moved on to a double header with two consecutive races in the Sultante of Oontaz - the first of which would be on the road course at Kota Nibabalu in a triple header race weekend with the NSSCRA Multiversal Cup Series and Everlong Contenders Series.

The momentum would not stop for Pegasii at the Rowell Salcedo Commemorative Racing Circuit. It looked as if it might be a difficult weekend for the driver of the #37 Vilaye Roast Dart who could only post the 17th fastest time in the Pole Qualifying session. Despite the mediocre Qualifying run, however, everyone knew that Pegasii would be a threat to contend with on Race Day. Pegasii is a seasoned road racer having done multiple spells in open wheel series in Hodori as well as the World Grand Prix 2 circuit resulting in a slew of podium finishes. From the drop of the green flag in Kota Nibabalu, Pegasii was a driver on a mission and quickly navigated themselves into the top five.

Pegasii would gain the lead after an exchange of pitstops midway through the event and never truly look back, despite a late race challenge from Jill Singletary who had fresher tires for the stretch run. Pegasii would cross the stripe just under half a second clear of the Yeezie driver to become the first ever driver in AOCAR Stock Car Series history to win back-to-back races and claim a near-perfect 100 points from the first two races of the season.

There would not be a long gap however until the third race of the season for another one of the AOCAR Crown Jewels, HRH The Sultan's 400 at the Zama Superspeedway. Anavelli Ariiki of Team Tropicorp who had been the polesitter for the event one season prior was narrowly beaten by local specialist Robinette Campaneros who posted the fastest time to start on pole position. Abid al-Qureishi who had won the race one season prior would also start inside the Top 10 while Jama'obo Pegasii would qualify in 17th place for the second consecutive race weekend. Just as they had done at the Rowell Salcedo Commorative Racing Circuit, Pegasii worked their way up through the field but could not pull off a third consecutive victory. Instead it would be the Oontaz drivers that would settle it among themselves with Yassir Nasri crossing the line first to claim the huge home track victory ahead of the polesitter Campaneros, Cocoabo #78 and last seasons Zama Superspeedway race winner Abid al-Qureishi.

The win would allow Yasir Nasri to reduce the gap at the top of the standings where Jama'obo Pegasii remained with 140 points and still 2 points clear of Nasri on 138 after a nearly equally strong start to the AOCAR Stock Car Series Season.

Oonaftco 220 at Kota Nibabalu, Rowell Salcedo Commemorative Racing Circuit, Kota Nibabalu, Sultanate of Oontaz :: Optimism was high in the Vilita and Turori Motorsports camp with Yraaga Gilli'i qualifying on the outside pole for the Oonaftco 200 at Kota Nibabalu but the high spirits didnt last long on race day when Rookie of the Season candidate Islago Tizilna failed to navigate the sweeper after a nudge from a competitor and was swept up into the outside tire wall ending the day for the #4 Inura Extracts Hybrid Dart and a virtually pointless showing in 45th position.

Yraaga Gilli'i continued to be the top performing Vilita and Turori Motorsports driver throughout the weekend and would be the only team driver to place inside the Top 10 - finishing exactly 10th beating out a pair of Jaguar Racing drivers for the spot late in the race. River 'Shark' Suzgar II finished 20th in the #14 Dart.

@VTRacer

Rough day for @IslagoTizilna as the first-season driver failed to completed the #Oonaftco220 after an early impact with the tire barrier. Tizilna would also lose the lead in the Coleman & Thorne's Rookie Standings following the DNF.

Welcome (Tervetuloa/Välkommen/欢迎)

Postby Kimi-Suomi » Thu Mar 17, 2022 2:02 pm

WELCOME TO KIMI-SUOMI!
TERVETULOA KIMI-SUOMI!
VÄLKOMMEN TILL KIMI-SUOMI!
欢迎来到基米芬兰!

The Government of Kimi-Suomi (Kimi-Suomen Hallitus) and the Kimi-Suomen Auto- ja Kilpaliitto (KSAjK) would like to welcome the motorsports world to the inaugural Kimi-Suomen Kolmoisuhka - consisting of the Kimi-Suomen Atlantis in the AOAk Vakioauto-sarja (AOCAR Stock Car Series), the Kimi-Suomen Kävely in the KVOK (NSSCRA) Everlong Kilpailijat-sarja (Contenders Series) and the Kimi-Suomen Sprintti in the KVOK Multiversal Cupin-sarja (Cup Series). The Keisari wanted his nation to be known far and wide, and what better way of doing that than to host 3 races on the same track over the course of a weekend on our soil. This is the first not-Football sporting event to ever be hosted in these lands in Northern AO and as such, we expect everyone to sit back and enjoy the show - a show we expect to be truly great.

About Kimi-Suomi and Kimi Kaupunki
Kimi-Suomi is an arctic kingdom based in the north of Atlantian Oceania, ruled by our Keisari Kimi-Matias Räikkönen with an even hand and through a parliament and free elections. Great friends of the nation of JYK-inen (TJUN-ia) from The North Pacific, many of our rights and freedoms are based on their constitution - except for the free alcohol, of course (our major industry). This land is filled with fir trees and a whole lot of snow, so make sure you bring your huivit ja hanskat to our land when you come - even in summer, it never usually goes above 16 degrees Celcius.

The people of this land have certainly made this wonderland home and you may be surprised to hear that this nation is actually a great mix of peoples. Of course, the majority are Suomalaisia (Fins) but we do have a distinct minority of Ruotsalaiset (Swedes) that are certainly present - they even have their own island and mainland community that mostly speaks Swedish, not Finnish. Other groups are present like Norjalaiset (Norwegians), Karjalaiset (Karelians), Venäläiset (Russians) and most certainly Saamelaiset (Sámi) - we even have a few from TJUN-ia who have decided to make this place their home. But no matter what creed these people are from, they will certainly welcome our new ystävät with open arms. They will, of course, be mostly supporting the home drivers, with both Aurélia Karvonen (NSSCRA Cup) and Georg Lundberg (AOCAR) being given open charters in order to ensure there will be 7 drivers flying our flag out in the tundra.

Kimi Kaupunki, our nation's capital and beating heart, is certainly somewhere you'd think of if you have a Nordic City in mind - a culture and a style of architecture influenced by the weather and the pristine environment all around. It is a city that is certainly warm and a city that will welcome you all with open arms no matter your colour, creed or lifestyle choices. Most signs here will be in Finnish, Swedish and English (our Official Languages), but we will also display signs in Chinese as a mark of respect to Lam Chow-Cheung, TJUN-ian by blood but in our car and will certainly be cheered like everyone else in HM colours.

Kimi Circuit
Image

A track has existed on this site for more than 50 years, but the newly-renamed Kimi Circuit has gone under a massive renovation in order to host NSSCRA 12 action. "Tight and Twisty, that's the Kimi-Suomi way" - the philosophy of the redesign and it can certainly be seen among the fir trees and the tundra this land is known for. Elevation changes and a long back straight are the main features here, so all drivers have to be quick and nimble in order to succeed here.

Procedural Note
- The winners of all 3 races here at Kimi Circuit will be given three prizes: a trophy, a free bottle of our famous vodka and a plush toy of our national animal, the Huuhkajat.

"Do you see over there?" Napoleon asked his Pridnestrovian guests, as he pointed out one of the Jouoangquoirais pickets positioned on a ridge outside Chieujeau -- just a little out of range of the French guns. "They have us surrounded. The only reason why they haven't retaken the city is because they are naive. They don't understand war. They don't make their own guns, and they are frightened of ours; but they could defeat me if they fought in earnest. They use trucks and crossbows to devastating effect when they are compelled to fight."

It took a moment for Yurievsky to follow where Napoleon pointed and pick out the picket from the surrounding terrain -- but yes, there was a man up there on the ridge.

"There is another one over there," Napoleon said, pointing. "Your weapons are very impressive, but we have to move carefully. The situation here is delicate, as you can see."

"Have you told him we're broke?" Murat interjected unhelpfully.

"We are not broke," Napoleon said. "We can at least afford some of those automatic rifles."

Lannes pulled Napoleon and a couple of miscellaneous French marshals aside to suggest something privately, out of earshot from Yurievsky: "Have you thought about combining our forces with Pridnestrovia's and evacuating our men to Pridnestrovia until we can find a way home?"

Napoleon perked up, clearly intrigued by the idea. "No, but that is an interesting idea."

"We should ask if they are interested," Massena said.

"Oh, I think they will be," said Napoleon.

"Do we have to abandon Chieujeau?" Murat asked sadly.

"Yes," a few of the others answered at the same time. "Our position here is untenable."

"What if we need to return to Jouoangquoi?" asked Davout -- one of Napoleon's marshals who was brilliant in battle, but terrible on the race track, and had therefore not gone into NSSCRA.

"For what? Why would we need to come back here?"

"What if we figure out how to get back to France, but we have to retrace our steps?"

"Hmm... That is a fair point," Napoleon said.

They talked it over a little more and decided that Massena and Murat would have a small force to continue the occupation of Chieujeau Raceway, while Napoleon would attempt to find a more suitable place for the rest of the Grand Armee. They brought Yurievsky back into the conversation and asked if the Pridnestrovian military would like to have several thousand Frenchmen join their ranks.

Napoleon and Yurievsky were still discussing their plans when Murat, Massena, and Lannes returned to the race track.

All of them had acquired their own following among the local racing fans, but Murat was by far the local favorite. People loved his showmanship at the driver intros, and his exuberant celebrations when he finished a race. The new sponsorship from Mayhem was a great excuse to try out a gaudy new purple and gold outfit -- with even more gold braid than what Murat wore on a normal day -- and proudly strut around handing out samples. Murat was loving all the attention, and Mayhem was probably pretty happy with their new protege's talent for playing to the crowd.

Lately the Frenchmen had been learning about drafting and attempting to work together more. Until Massena decided he did not want to let the others pass him, even if they were faster. The result was that for the 2nd week in a row, the French cars finished bunched together, and there was a shouting match in the paddock after the race, as Jean Lannes chewed out Massena for blocking him.

Well then...this race didn't let up, didn't it? No one really knew what to expect from the first-ever race here at Chieujeau Raceway in the Jouoangquoi territory of The French Army, but this event certainly didn't disappoint for the neutrals at home. This race had a few talking points as well so...let's answer a few questions.

1) What is going on with Michael Stefan (@Stefan07)? I mean, seriously, what did he do to piss off the racing gods as of late? He's a sweet guy that practically no one has any issues with (that I'm aware of, that is) but suddenly, his luck has seemingly...run out. He was the first to retire today, dead last due to more mechanical trouble, and suddenly, "JR's Main Guy" for most of our existence is 20th and well off the pace of both his teammates. I tried to ask him how he was feeling during the rest of the running and he couldn't say much...returning to a place he hasn't been in since his elimination last season. I sense he feels...lost. He needs a race win...I hope it happens for his sake.
2) With Stefan struggling, who will be the main focus for JR at this point: Alfonso Mercado (@AM64) or Maddison Riley-Jones (@MaddyRJ03)? Alfonso had the points lead until today, with his P24 out on track sending him down to 4th overall, while Maddy made it up to 5th and is now only a point behind #64 in the standings. If Maddy wins a race this season and Stefan continues to struggle, we could have some sort of reverse scenario to the one we're used to...and I don't know how to feel about that.
3) When will Team Cassadaigua come back...if ever? Jenna Logan, one of their former drivers, won this race for Team Tropicorp over Rinzi Aogar Zakhilwal and Clarissa Alanis Star Samantha and I just know that while she is flying that flag for Cassadaigua with pride, it just...doesn't feel the same without her also driving a Dagan car. One day, I hope to see the Dagans come back to what they were before...a powerhouse that can do well on their day. I don't know if they ever will come back...but I hope they will.
4) Where the hell did Huuhkajat Moottoriurheilu come from? And no, I don't mean Kimi-Suomi - I mean in terms of performances. As a rookie team, they were more towards the back in the early running but now, after only 7 races, Daniel Marx's Finnish Hype Train has fully left the station and if there was an award for Most Improved Team over the season, I'd give it to HM right now. Lam Chow-Cheung has been scoring great points finishes for the past few weeks now and getting 20th here today was another one to add to that list, finding behind fellow Chinese drivers Kai Qiang and Liangmei Li. But today actually belonged to the other HM driver, Aurélia Karvonen, who managed to put in her best ever shift in that white #71 car to end up in 17th. I don't fully know how Marx is doing this over in Kimi Kaupunki...but it's working!

With Anastasia Freya Yadana Aye now on top of the standings, the regular season of both Cup and Contenders is about to reach the halfway point - in Kimi Kaupunki of all places. Yes, the Kimi Suomen Sprintti and Kävely are upon us, Kimi-Suomi finally getting a chance in the spotlight. This weekend will be all about HM and so, MOTR2 is reflecting that - a song from their people to send us all to Northern AO. Nähdään pian!

Seitsemän Kotona (Seven At Home/七个在家/Sju Hemma)

Postby Kimi-Suomi » Fri Mar 18, 2022 7:02 pm

So...racing is coming to this side of AO, huh? Hi, I'm Mätiyäs Eskolinen and I'm an expert in all things Motorsport here in Kimi-Suomi. Do you want an independent view into how much this Rogue Nation loves racing machines on tarmac, brick, mud or stone? Then you've come to the right place, ystävät.

So yeah, the Kimi Circuit is making its international debut by hosting the Kimi-Suomen Kolmoisuhka - 2 events in the NSSCRA and 1 in the AOCAR, a true celebration of motorsports on these shores for the very first time. This event will certainly be fun and I'm looking forward to enjoying all the racing action from trackside - but to those either in KS or abroad who don't really follow this sport, many will be wondering about the prospects or even the identities of who will be flying that blue nordic cross over the upcoming weekend. So, I will be trying to help in this regard by providing three points about all of HM's finest for this momentous occasion

Kimi-Suomen Atlantis (AOCAR Stock Car)
#07 Tapio Pellonpää
- Aged only 16, Tapio Pellonpää was chosen as lead driver for HM-AOAk due to his unlimited potential and car control
- Multiple DNFs have hampered him already however, with his P26 last time our his first classified finish of the season
- He certainly has a lot of heart and many will be hoping he can show that off in front of his home crowd.

#70 Marjatta Särestöniemi
- Also aged 16, Marjatta Särestöniemi has quick pace and a whole lotta fight - exactly what you need in a racing driver.
- Has had the best of the form of the two at AM-AOAk, but suffered her first DNF last time out.
- Will be looking to regain some form on home soil and the crowd will hope to back her in this regard.

#73 Georg Lundberg
- AOCAR allows the host nation to enter an open-charter driver into the race and for this one, that spot was given to 22-year-old Georg Lundberg.
- Lundberg is a well-known name in the domestic series, a driver that certainly has the pace to find his feet at AOCAF if required.
- The crowd will treat him well as a one-timer - but Ruotsalaisia will certainly be happy to see a Swede flying our flag out there.

Kimi-Suomen Kävely (NSSCRA Contenders)
#07 Kaarina Salo
- Known as "The Quiet", 18-year-old Kaarina Salo is best known as a driver who glides on the track and has pace that doesn't require argy-bargy.
- Hasn't been the pacesetter of the HMT2 program, but she was the one who claimed HM's first-ever podium in Tundra Falls.
- The crowd will certainly have her back here in these lands, but who knows how much that can power her on this track.

#7 Ilmari Pëkannen
- Known as "The Storm", some say that 22-year-old Ilmari Pëkannen is an animal given control of a stock car and with push his way to glory.
- May not have the flashiest result for HMT2, but his consistency means he is leading the Suomen race to the T2 Chase.
- He will certainly have his support here in Kimi Kaupunki - especially from his father, media mogul Jyri Pëkannen.

Kimi-Suomen Sprintti (NSSCRA Cup Series)
#38 Lam Chow-Cheung (TJU)
- TJUN-ian by blood, non-binary and wears a cute mask - everyone certainly knows the story of 18-year-old prodigy Lam Chow-Cheung.
- Got off to a slow start but ever since their crash in Wollongmatta Bay, they have been on fire and getting some great points on the board.
- You best believe fans will buy the masks to show support - especially as he wears a special mask for this weekend, painted with a blue nordic cross.

#71 Aurélia Karvonen
- The undisputed GOAT of motorsports in Kimi-Suomi, even those who don't follow sports at all know who 30-year-old Aurélia Karvonen is.
- Kimi-Suomen and absolutely proud, she's managed to become a consistent qualifier as a non-charter - and her race pace is picking up too.
- You know she will get the biggest reaction out of anyone here - and many hope she can make her case as the charter update nears.

The game between the Oontaznik pro basketball players and the NSSCRA and AOCAR drivers was excitement from start to finish, even as it ended in a 100-all deadlock. An hour-long break followed, and then the pro ballers and drivers regrouped for the next part of their exhibition, this time forming two teams with a mix of both.

Sage Caldwell and Ricky Lee joined the Samal Butanding team along with Leo Baxter, Glen Reid, Gwen Oxton and some others, while the Kota Nibabalu Rebeldes had in among their driver selections three Multiversal champs and one from Everlong - Jeremiah Brooke, Stacie Houston, Anastasia Aye and Daryl Calhoun. Despite this, Sage and Leo, the two best ballers among the motorsports crowd, combined for 47 points to help their team take a 135-113 win over the other. "That was awesome," Sage told the Rebeldes captain as the two sides shook their hands. "I hope you guys have us again next season."

Sage was in a good position in the Multiversal points, but hasn't done much of note yet other than the runner-up finish at the season opener. He hoped that the feeling of dominating the court would give him some extra motivation in the Oonaftco 220. Yes, it's a way different sport, but if it makes him happy, why not, right? Sage ended up having a decent qualifying run and a 13th place start to match his new number. That translated into a 16th place finish, but though he lost three spots, he did spend some time in the lead, three laps to be exact. Ricky, for his part, started 23rd and ended the same way. He was fine with this - as long as he doesn't do too poorly or crash out, he could get his hands on a charter when the league starts reshuffling them.

The next week was a tropical getaway to the Pearl Kingdom, or Jouoangquoi if one prefers (neither Direwolf driver did, the O-Town flashbacks rushing to their heads). Despite the rundown appearance of the track where race seven of the Multiversal schedule is to be held, the locals seemed more than pleased to welcome all the drivers to their little corner of the world. Sage got a lot of attention from the female locals because he was black like them, not to mention muscular and had cool dreadlocks, but some were intrigued by Ricky's different appearance, not to mention the blue streak in his hair, a remnant of his rebellious street racer days.

"You know Sage, this might actually be our best chance all season long," Ricky said as he took another bite from his grilled fish.

"Of what, winning?" was his teammate's reply. "Dunno what you saw in this track that made you say that, but hell, I'll take it."

"Nah, man, I meant scoring with a chick. Have you seen the way some of these natives are staring at us?"

"Oh yeah, yeah," Sage nodded. "Come on, let's see if some of them will talk to a couple of international athletes."

Turns out the Direwolf duo would need more than just the "I'm in the NSSCRA" card to be able to succeed in their pursuit. Even married and taken racers like the Stacemiah pair, Kai Qiang, Tsering Chu, Drake Stevenson and Taylor Henderson got more than enough attention, leading Ricky and Sage to think that the natives aren't just attracted to those who drive advertisements around in circles, they're attracted to those who drive advertisements around in circles in as short a time as possible.

"One of us would have to win on Sunday, then," Ricky said. "And it sure as hell won't be the guy in the unlucky numbered car."

"Lucky thirteen is a thing too, you dimwit," was Sage's resort. "And oh, you're one to talk. If you win on Sunday I'll shave my dreads off."

"You're on!" They were just about to start heading back to the garage to fire up the simulator when their "natives prefer winners" theory was immediately debunked by what they saw next.

Joachim Murat was standing beside his car at the side of the track, but it was not the Murat or #61 Mouly that the Direwolf duo were used to seeing. The car was no longer a red/white/blue split, it was the same gold and dark grayish blue as the can of Mayhem Gold Rush deodorant Sage had in his bag. Murat was decked out in the same colors, and was being mobbed not just by the natives, but also some fans who have arrived early, as he distributed samples of the product he was now advertising.

"Ugh! Who taught that guy to bathe? Now he's become irresistible," said Sage.

"The power of Mayhem," agreed Ricky. "How can we ever compete with that?"

The French rookie continued to bask in the attention he was getting, and the Mayhem people were probably high fiving each other upon having found the right driver to back. In addition to the owner of the most fabulous mustache in the NSSCRA, Rinzi Aogar Zakhilwal, of course.

"Back to plan A then: winning. Or if not, at least finishing higher than Murat."

Fast forward to Sunday. Sage qualified ninth but finished just 23rd, while Ricky regained his position as the top unchartered qualifier, starting 14th; however, he ended up just 28th. Murat was way behind the pair at 38th, but the people kept following him around, much to their dismay.

"Chalk up another L for us, huh," Sage spoke.

"Uh.... maybe for you, pal."

"The hell you getting at, Rick?"

"Look over there."

Ricky's unconventional appearance seemed to have gotten the interest of some of the local women, judging by the blue streak (dye? extension?) that they had in their hair, not to mention the 99s they had obviously markered on their shirts themselves. "Oh, my gosh...." he said, staring at them while they waved to get his attention.

"What's that?"

"I can't believe it, man..... I've got my own groupies...."

The Valentians – Race 6 – Multiversal: Oonaftco 220 at Kota Nibabalu, Rowell Salcedo Commemorative Racing Circuit, Kota Nibabalu, Sultanate of Oontaz (Road Course); Everlong: Manggahan ni Martha 165, Rowell Salcedo Commemorative Racing Circuit, Kota Nibabalu, Sultanate of Oontaz (Road Course)

"So we got invited over to a friendly match of basketball," Valentijn announced to the drivers and the other Valentians at the dropship, "It will be quite limited to just the few of us, and well, given our heights, we are limited to two at a time on the courts. Still, friendly match, it's all good, right?" the rest of the Valentians agreed. Marcus, in one of the rare instances where he was out of his living armour, walked towards Valentijn and hopped onto her hand, with the armour simply waiting as ordered telepathically by Marcus. "We can play too, right? I mean, not just the main team and the Gardeners." Valentijn brushed her hair with her other hand as she looked around in confirmation, "Yeap, we can as well! I bet Gwen here will have a lot of fun, heh. She led the team in IBC, after all." And with that, the Valentians were off, having arrived at Sultanate of Oontaz and then heading over to their lounges to unpack their belongings. This was followed by the Valentians – wearing their firesuits – walking over to the basketball court that was in the invitation. "Err, are you sure about this?" Anastasia asked a little worryingly, looking around at her friends, "Would be a little warm, ain't it?" Gwen gave a bit of a shrug, citing that they will be fine since the weather was kind of bearable for them, as well as some Holly magic to give them the comfortable temperatures, "We will be fine, hah! Shame that Holly wasn't around, but hey, I respect her personal choice and preference." As they arrived at the court, they introduced themselves to the others around – some of them are familiar faces, others being ones to see the Valentians for the first time. "How do you know they only encountered us the first time?" Clarissa asked Valentijn curiously, to which the other replied with a small smirk, "They looked very nervous to see us!"

As they were preparing and doing a bit of warmups, Thea Alvarez, one of those present who aren't playing, decided to help out those who are playing by writing the drivers' numbers on sheets of paper and taping them to their backs. "Well hey, as long as it works!" Marcus said with a thumbs-up, "Reminds me of those badges and pins that we have to wear for the army fitness tests, you know?" Valentijn nodded as she finished her introduction to a few of those people they have never seen before, particularly the ones from Rebeldes, "Good times!" After a few seconds of shuffling and teaming up, it was time for the teams to start playing – Rebeldes against the drivers. The tallest guy in that team stepped forward for the jump ball, with the drivers still waiting. "And how about the drivers?" the referee asked, to which Jeremiah Brooke replied with, "She'll do it," followed by a gentle nudge to Valentijn. She let out a small but confident smile, stepping forward. Even with all of the heights shrunk – with the Valentians at 13-15 feet on average, Valentijn still stood at 16 feet, making her the tallest person in the court and in the stadium.

"Well, let's get to it!" she said with a wink, followed by the referee doing their thing. With all the focus in the world followed by a very controlled breathing, Valentijn jumped on cue and caught the jump ball, giving the drivers the possession of it. Then the game started proper – competitive and intense, and yet still very friendly and informal. The Valentians always love that sort of thing between drivers and friends from other nations, perhaps because this alludes to their idea of fair sportsmanship, as well as simply having fun and being friends especially outside of the track. With an energizing and refreshing basketball match with no injuries to boot, it was the perfect start for what was about to go down for both Everlong and Multiversal race in Sultanate of Oontaz for the next few days, in what was simply described as the best finishes and results ever for most of the Valentians and specially the Gardeners.

The Gardeners – Race 6 – Multiversal: Oonaftco 220 at Kota Nibabalu, Rowell Salcedo Commemorative Racing Circuit, Kota Nibabalu, Sultanate of Oontaz (Road Course); Everlong: Manggahan ni Martha 165, Rowell Salcedo Commemorative Racing Circuit, Kota Nibabalu, Sultanate of Oontaz (Road Course)

This happened during one of her typical semesters, giving the new students a resemblance of a test that relies less on rote memory and more on application. She gives the reference sheets to the students, and with ample and proper timing, she commenced the examinations. Come the next few days after marking and handing over the result slips, one of the first few sentences that came out from one of her students amounted to, "I will never amount to anything, I am sorry. I'm just bad at this." Jolyn felt the lump in her throat, not so because of the student, but because of the things she said to herself. Was this really all what is in store for the students back in the Pre-Valentian Eras? To drill and "teach" and to dump the ones who are considered dumb by some of the most asinine standards humanity has to see? Jolyn hatched up a plan, one that she has been using to many of the students, and this one is perhaps not that exceptional after all. She simply walked up to the student-in-question's table, giving her a meaningful look in the eye as she put the slip back onto the table. "Don't worry. Come see me after school hours," was the note that she wrote on the result slip. The after-school hours came in, and there was the student, sitting alone in the classroom with Jolyn packing back and forth in front of it. She has not written anything on the whiteboard, for there was no need to be. She did not ask the student to drill in and do repetitive tasks, for there was no need to be. All Jolyn asked, after stopping in the middle of her pacing, was a simple question: "Do tell me about yourself."

The student let it out, perhaps venting even some of the frustrations that she had over the past few weeks and even months or years. Perhaps a sign of how the parents from the Pre-Valentian Eras were still sticking onto some of the dangerous and dying traditions of education, the student in question was simply different in the way she processes knowledge. At the end of it, she didn't care – she could have been called the same names from Jolyn for all she cared, but what mattered was that she let it out, and she let out the problems she had. Jolyn simply nodded, jotting down a few note on her digital tablet as she diverted her attention back to the student. "Well, this certainly is an eye opener, Miss Alyssa," a formal tone before dropping back to the slightly more informal one, putting her tablet and the pen back down onto the table, "I can see you are frustrated, that's one and obvious. However, if you are going to be in my classes in the future, you will see that things will certainly change for the better, at least I hope I don't sound like I am selling you something. Getting back to the point, I will never ever call a student dumb, not in the academic sense, at least. There were times where a few of them have risked their lives for something asinine, but again, I digress. As for why I asked you to meet me here today – I would simply like to help you out, that is all. I know you struggled with the more math-heavy portions of the examinations, and that's okay. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. I have seen your exceptional performance in other subjects – and I must say, I do like your reference to Nikolai Gogol in that exam to be a profound one." For that brief moment, the student's eyes lit up a little, perhaps this little sessions not going to be a total bore as she expected from the anecdotes and old tales. "The Overcoat is one of the classics that I like," the student started speaking up again, much to Jolyn's delight, "The supernatural stuff inside of it sells it to me, you know? Still, I have to ask, Ms. Jolyn, I hope I am not impolite."

"Yes?" Jolyn simply asked, still wearing the face of confidence and reassurance as she prepared for the student's question: "Literature is nice and all, but I am not sure how this is leading up to help me out with, you know, maths." Jolyn took another step, perhaps looking at the window. It was a nice Valentian summer as always, birds and lush trees abound with a few kids at the playground. With another meaningful nod and a smile, Jolyn simply walked towards the digital whiteboard and turned back to the student, who was in a much more elated state than she was before when she was first in the classroom. Jolyn answered back simply: "I will see how you learn, then I adapt."

-----

Holly decided to opt out of the basketball game for that day, citing that she would rather be doing the sims and test runs around the course that they would be racing at. In actuality, she was afraid of other people touching her, unintentionally or otherwise. Playing as a goalkeeper in World Cup was one thing, but a basketball match, even a friendly one and with her firesuit, is going to end up with someone turning into a human popsicle once they tripped and landed on her. On top of that, using her ability to freeze people with mere touch does not seem too fair, what with basketball having a bit of contact and touch going on. She sat on the simulation, making sure that she is fully wearing her suit in order to isolate her from the heat. With a road course in a place that has more safety measures in place, as well as with its people giving a care about maintaining the place, Holly figured that she would be able to pull a breakthrough here, even if it is Top 20 or maybe even Top 10. She wasn't expecting a lot, aware of the competitiveness and the tremendous experience that she is still lacking compared to the many others around her.

Of course, there are times when reality tends to be far more than what one would expect. And it was a miracle by a large margin. Apart from Clarissa Alanis Star Samantha Harumi, all of the Valentians and the Gardeners alike were in a very bad start from the qualifications, ranging from 26th of Jolyn Maxine Helen Caulfield Ceeta, to the absolute worst of Gwen at 43rd. If they are lucky, they might be able to break through half of the competition ahead just so that they could get some chances of being in the middle, saddling between the 10th and the 20th. However, as it was established beforehand, sometimes Fate and luck play a part together, and this time, the Valentians and Gardeners were such a force to be reckoned with when it comes to working together. For instance, Gwen and Holly slingshotted out of their bad qualifications to go bumper to bumper with one another – at 3rd and 4th positions respectively. For Holly, this was the furthest she has gotten so far in the segments, and was fully aware that she would need to keep this up for the rest of the session or it would have been just a footnote. She wanted more than it.

As the last few segment approaches, with pit stops done and everything taken care of, Gwen and Holly found themselves at 15th and 14th respectively, fallen back a little from the heat of the moments and the race as they went for separate pit stops and other technical bits that they have to fix. Clarissa and Jolyn were at 26th and 23th, with Anna trying her best to follow them behind at 28th. Anastasia was at 3rd, giving the other top drivers a bit of a pressure as she was nigh-impossible to stop and to be intercepted. "Holly, I know we can do this together. Listen, forget about what happened in the previous race," Gwen said on the Valentian-Gardener radio comms, trying to give her friend a bit of the much-needed motivation, "You have already showed me – and the rest of us – that you belong in the fronts. And we will be able to finish this unlike last time. Are you with me?" Holly pondered the thought for a while. Gwen was definitely a motivational speaker for most of the Valentians, that she gave a lot of credit for. Still, she thought to herself as to whether or not she can do this for real. What if there was going to be a last-minute crash? Or something that would put her out of commission? Or something that rendered her car inoperable even for the most absurd of reasons? She did not dare to think of those for now, for she got a mission to do.

She was going to follow Gwen no matter what. With the bright green-and-blue in front of her now, Holly followed from behind, her mind only fixated on following her and nothing else. Clarissa was also catching back up, but she was going to take it slowly for this round. Perhaps there was something that she knew – the mind paired with a machine that knew the hard results, and perhaps even a bit of precognition from Gwen herself. Either way, it does not matter for Holly at that moment – she trusted Gwen, she was going to follow her throughout the rest of the race. "Looking, great, Holly!" Gwen said cheerfully on the radio, with Anastasia welcoming them soon after. "Hey, guys, glad you all could make it!" she said, currently at 8th, "Listen, it's a little crowded and hectic out there, but if we stick together, we can make this one. I'll stick with Clarissa-" as she was about to finish her sentence, Clarissa went ahead and chimed in to the radio, "Oh no, it's okay, don't worry about me! You guys go ahead! I feel like there is something magical is going to happen," with a wink that no one could see, she signed off, content with herself there.

And something magical it indeed was. With Anastasia figuratively fighting off the Jeremiah, Stacie, and Maddie at the last few laps, especially with Jeremiah, she then radioed in for Holly and Gwen to go ahead. "Go ahead, I can't shake these guys off. Jeremiah is in such a position around us, I don't think I can hit 4th." Gwen and Holly – now at 2nd and 3rd – are getting increasingly excited, elated even. "It's all good, good luck!" Gwen replied back, then back to Holly, "Holly, you and I are going to do this now. It's now or never!" Drake was still in front of them, and that's okay. Gwen and Holly were elated, but this was not over yet. With the duels getting more and more intense at the end, it was a matter of fending them off while also making sure that they are not veering off-course and crashing. After all, this is still a road course, and after getting this far, DNFing would have been a fate worse than a DNQ.

For that brief moment in time, everything was right in the world. As Drake went past the finish line, the rest behind him followed. Gwen Tracer Allison Oxton taking the second place, and one would expect Anastasia to break in and get that 3rd place behind her, perhaps a little close to the "Triple Podium finish" that the Valentians have put up as a prize, even if they were not qualified to get them. If not Anastasia, that could have been Clarissa, but the poor robot also had a time of her CPU life trying her best in order to get the openings and the best possible paths, all because of the battle that was raging on at the front. "Drake won the race, followed by Gwen, and Holly Starlight trailing at third!" She did it, she thought. Her very first podium finish. It does not matter if it was not 2nd let alone a 1st, but at the end of the day – it was a victory that was well-fought, one that Holly deserved after the fumble. It was the finish that Gwen deserved after not getting the podium finishes until now. "Great battle that was, I like how you guys didn't hold back and gave us quite the fight." Stacie told Gwen, to which the latter took it with joy and humbleness. "Thank you very much! You guys are amazing as well! I was more surprised by my friend here, haha! She did great! She did really great, right?" It was the finish for Anastasia which was typical. It was the decent finish for Clarissa, with Jolyn tailing behind at 17th. Anna managed a 30th out of the mess of cars in front and behind her, but she was still so very optimistic, for she knew in her heart and mind that her day of victory will be coming over very soon. On top of that, she was simply happy for her friend – Holly. The whole of Valentine Z was happy for her. That night, many cheers and jubilations were had for the light woman's first victory. Cakes, drinks, and even the talk of an opening ceremony in Valentine Z combined with a well-meaning celebration for Holly. "It will be delightful if you guys are doing to do it for me! I am not that shy anymore, ahaha! Ahh, maybe just not within NSSCRA."

That night, the two – Holly and Gwen – shared quite a moment with each other that night. The two found a small place where they can have a bit of a chat, which was then followed by a few other Valentians joining them, "Told you, you can do it!" Gwen said, slapping Holly on the shoulder, her being immune to her elements. Holly laughed slightly sheepishly, followed by waving around and spinning, one of her ways of indicating happiness. "Hm hm hm! It certainly was a very delightful race today! And thank you to everyone as well! I do hope we will be able to keep this up for the future races!" Gwen replied back with a smile soon afterwards, "We will do just fine, Holly. We will do."

Having a hot head had always been understood as a figure of speech and not a factual statement about temperatures, but driving around in the cool night air on the hills of Kota Nibabalu on her motorcycle really did seem to have cooled off Wilma von Cärinthen’s temper somewhat. At the very least, it allowed her to look back at the events of a few hours ago from a more level-headed perspective. After all, Wilma hadn’t been particularly good here at the Rowell Salcedo Circuit back in the Abanhfleft Racing Truck Series (ARTS). Despite having driven here many times before, she was still getting caught out by that first hairpin, and it was perhaps the biggest thing that cost her the win here at Kota Nibabalu. If Wilma had only been able to keep her lead from pole position then she wouldn’t have been anywhere near Koshiro Kawai when the latter crashed into the wall and bounced back into her car. Of course, she knew that Koshiro wasn’t at fault for the crash; he didn’t want to be in the wall just as much as any other sane racing driver. But if she hadn’t been in the same position that she was when she had just finished lapping him then she wouldn’t have fallen all the way down the order, and she wouldn’t have finished in 25th place which, considering that she started this race on pole, was an absolute disappointment not just for her, but for the team as a whole.

Wilma also realized that she might have seemed standoffish to the other drivers after the race. She remembered someone trying to shake her hand after the race, but she had brushed them away because she just wasn’t in the mood to interact with anybody; that was how pissed she had been with herself back then. Wilma made a mental note to ask her crew about the identity of the driver that tried to shake her hand so she can make amends later on. It wasn't their fault that she was in a bad mood, and they were only trying to congratulate a fellow driver and competitor. Yeah, keep telling yourself that, Cärinthen, Wilma snorted sarcastically to herself.

Wilma had missed the feeling of riding a motorcycle. It was in fact her greatest passion, greater than even racing trucks or stock cars. In fact, had there been some sort of national motorcycle racing tournament then Wilma was confident that she would have gone straight into it. As it was, there wasn't any sort of organized competition for racing motorcycles in Abanhfleft apart from riding clubs and underground street racing leagues, and she just wasn't into that. So for her, the next logical step was to get into something with twice the wheels. Wilma had then used some of the money that she had inherited from her late parents to buy some time behind the wheel in ARTS, and she ended up landing a ride with the newly established Urotovsky-Gatutin factory team. Wilma hadn't expected to be as good at driving a truck as she was riding a bike, but it turned out she was, and the rest was history.

Wilma had taken to bringing her bike with her on her international travels with NSSCRA even though there were many times where she couldn't find the time or the opportunity to go for a ride. Tonight was not going to be one of those times though. Tonight, Wilma was determined to ride her bike through the rolling hills of Kota Nibabalu. She had an ulterior motive for driving around, of course, but while she was on the road and the wind was blowing through her hair (metaphorically speaking; she was wearing a helmet after all), Wilma was going to ride without a care in the world.

The roads weren't busy this late into the night, although Wilma had passed the occasional articulated truck and tuk-tuk through her travels. There was a spot on a hill overlooking the provincial capital where Wilma planned to spend some time cooling off even further before she could consider herself emotionally stable enough to face everyone else without breaking someone's nose in frustration. In the mornings, the spot Wilma was headed for was popular with tourists, but now that night had fallen she was confident that she was going to be the only person on that overlook on the hilltop. However, when she got there, Wilma was very much surprised to see someone else was also at the overlook seated on one of the benches facing out to the city and port of Kota Nibabalu. The person turned around when they heard the sound of Wilma's motorcycle engine, and once the headlight shone on the person's face, she was even more surprised that it was someone she actually knew.

"Koshiro! Wha the fuck are you doing here?" Wilma exclaimed.

"I was about to ask you the same thing, but you beat me to it," Koshiro Kawai replied.

"Yeah, sure, whatever," Wilma waved off as she got off her bike. "You still haven't answered my question. What are you doing here?"

"Probably the same reason you are," Koshiro said. "I saw how you were at the end of the race. You literally swatted away that Scandinavian lady's hand like a fly! You were angry that I clipped you after you had lapped me so you needed some place to cool down and vent, and I understand that. I needed to vent a little bit myself too. This circuit's always got the better of me even when I won my championship, and I just needed to decompress a little bit too."

"Yeah, sure," Wilma said, her tone making it clear that she was suspicious about the whole thing. "That still doesn't explain what you're doing here at my spot."

"Your spot?!" Koshiro snorted. "Would you mind showing me the deed saying that you own this piece of land we're standing on right now?"

"You know what I damn well mean, Koshiro!" Wilma shouted. "Oh my god!" she muttered as she rubbed her forehead. "I went here to cool down and relax, but now you're just making me angry again! I'm just gonna go back to the garage and fume there!"

"Oh, come on, Wilhelmina! I was just kidding!" Koshiro quickly backpedaled once he realized Wilma was dead serious about everything she just said. "You can stay here. I'll just shut up and mind my own business. Shit, if you even want me to leave, I'll leave."

"No! Don't leave!" Wilma said quickly, almost too quickly. "Stay here. I don't mind, actually. Maybe it's actually better as well. Misery loves company and all that."

"Are you sure about that?" Koshiro asked skeptically.

"Yeah, really, I am," Wilma nodded. In fact, to prove her point, she went over to the bench where Koshiro was seated and sat down beside him. She then took out a pack of cigarettes from inside her leather jacket, shook out a stick, put it in her mouth, and lit it. "Do you mind?" she asked almost as an afterthought.

"I didn't know you smoked," Koshiro said.

"I try to keep it on the down low as much as possible," Wilma replied. "And it's not an addiction. I don't smoke all the time everyday. I just light up the occasional cigarette when I'm trying to calm myself down."

"I still can't believe that you smoke," Koshiro muttered. "You just don't look like the type."

"And what's that supposed to mean? You don't think a woman can smoke a cigarette?"

"Don't you get started on that bullshit again," Koshiro shook his head. "If you want to put tar in your lungs then that's your choice, just like whoever you want to sleep with. Now, that being said, mind giving me one too?" he asked.

"What the fuck? You smoke too?" Wilma said even as she shook out a cigarette from her box for Koshiro to take.

"We're all full of secrets, Cärinthen," Koshiro muttered as he lit his cigarette. He took in a deep drag before slowly letting it all out. "I don't know what it is, but something's changed in these things since the first time I smoked," he said.

"Tell me about it," Wilma muttered. "And I know that this stuff is bad for us, but sometimes I just can't help myself. Poisoning my own body actually helps me relax, weirdly enough."

"Same here," Koshiro said. "And speaking of poisoning our own bodies, you want some of this?" He extended a bottle towards Wilma. "Mango-flavored gin," he explained. "I thought it was fitting considering where we are."

"You know what? Why not? I'm not supposed to drink because I drove here on my bike, but then again, I'm not supposed to be smoking as well." Wilma took the bottle from Koshiro and drank a few gulps.

"Hey, save some for me!" Koshiro said.

"Don't be greedy! You're not gonna be able to finish off this big-ass bottle tonight by yourself without killing your liver as well!" Wilma snorted, but she did return the bottle of gin to Koshiro. The two of them then silently stared at the moon reflecting off of the coast of Kota Nibabalu with only the crickets the occasional vehicle passing by, and the gin sloshing in the bottle breaking the silence. Both of them blew smoke out of their mouths and nostrils and watched as the wind carried the smoke away from them, but beyond that neither of them made a sound. The two of them remained in that state for what felt like an eternity before Wilma finally spoke again. "So, how's NSSCRA been treating you?" she asked.

"I thought it was already tough as it was back when I was just using the open charter, but now that I'm a regular, I realize just how tough it really is," Koshiro replied. "Can you keep a secret, Wilhelmina?" he asked.

"I can if you stop calling me by my full name," Wilma said.

“Fine, whatever,” Koshiro waved off. “But just so you know, despite what everyone else at Duisdorf is saying, I honestly don’t think that we’ll be able to be as competitive in NSSCRA as the big guns like Team Blue and GFR and Jaguar Racing. Heck, I don’t think we’re competitive with you UrGa guys, at least not right now. The higher-ups at Duisdorf think that because we’ve had three years to develop our car, we can be immediately competitive in NSSCRA. But I don’t think so. I’ve seen enough to know that we’ve still got a long way to go before Duisdorf can really start competing against everyone, at least not this season.”

“And why are you telling me this now?” Wilma asked skeptically.

“I don’t know,” Koshiro admitted. “Maybe it’s just the gin talking. Or maybe it’s the same thing that made me sorry to you back then even though it was clearly your fault!”

“What?! My fault?” Wilma asked heatedly. “You were the one that bumped into me after I lapped you!”

“No! I’m not talking about the crash between us earlier, dumbass! I’m talking about what happened last season! You know, the joke about Duisdorf gathering intel on other cars before making their own entry,” Koshiro said. “Wait a minute. You don’t think I intentionally crashed into you earlier today, do you?”

“Of course not! That’s just stupid!” Wilma countered. “Wait. You didn’t do it on purpose, did you?”

“What do you think?” Another silence settled over the two of them once again, only this time it was more awkward than the first time. This time though, it would be Koshiro who would eventually break that silence. "One of these days, we're really going to have to figure out exactly what kind of relationship we really have between us," he said.

"Why would we need to do that?" Wilma asked. "Isn't how things currently are better for the both of us anyway?"

"Maybe for you, but not for me," Koshiro said. "I mean, look at us. What are we, really? Are we just friends, or are we actually an item that refuses to be an item? Do either of us even want to be part of this? And do we really like each other? Or are we just being sporting about it because we're from rival teams?"

"Look, man, why is it so important for you to figure out what the fuck we really are?" Wilma asked again.

"I don't know too," Koshiro replied. "Something tells me that that's just the right thing to do."

"I think it's time that we went back to the garages," Wilma suggested. "That gin is clearly stronger than you thought."

"Nah, that can't be it," Koshiro shook his head. "I've been giving this some thought even before tonight. This is a question that really needs an answer."

"And I'm sure you'll get one," Wilma said. "Even if it takes the both of us to find it, we'll get that answer eventually." That wasn't what she had intended to say, but now it was out in the open thanks to the mango-flavored gin that the two of them had been sharing. Wilma could only hope that the ensuing hangover in the morning would delete this conversation from both hers and Koshiro's minds. And thus yet another day went where these two stock car drivers shoved their feelings and desires deep down to where they couldn't talk easily about it again.

Tsering Chu was beginning to understand why the French drivers had smelled so bad when they first arrived in Tundra Falls at the beginning of the NSSCRA season. It didn't take long to get hot and sweaty in Chieujeau. She was still recovering from the upset stomach she had after eating that spicy stew on her first night in Jouoangquoi, and the hot weather was not helping. She was sitting in the shade fanning herself when Mendok tapped her on the shoulder.

"Is French onion soup supposed to have bananas in it?" Mendok asked. Tsering saw that she was carrying a bowl of soup and examining it suspiciously.

"I thought was made with onions..." Tsering replied uncertainly.

Mendok wandered toward Qiang's hauler, calling, "Hey, Qiang, what's in French onion soup?"

Qiang looked at her like she was an idiot. "Onions?"

"Yeah, but what else?"

"Doesn't it have bread in it, or it comes with bread or something?"

Mendok got close enough to show Qiang her bowl. "Okay, but look at this. It has bananas."

Qiang looked, and a confused expression spread across his face. "Is it any good?" he asked.

Mendok gingerly lifted a spoonful to her mouth and tasted it. Then she relaxed and said, "Oh, yeah, that's delicious." She ate a couple more spoonfuls. "It doesn't taste like French onion soup, but that is really good!"

Qiang thought he saw where Mendok had bought the soup. The guy running the soup stand was definitely not French, and it did not look like it would pass a board of health inspection. He still had a long line of customers queued up to try his concoctions.

The kerfuffle about the bananas got Tsering thinking how nice it would be to have some real French onion soup, so she sent one of her crew to find some. She felt much better after having some food that didn't feel like it was setting her mouth on fire. By the time the action on the track really got moving, she was well recovered from both the hot weather and her culinary adventures. She turned in a nice fast qualifying lap, and she was eager for the race to come. She hadn't been quite was fast as Qiang, but that was okay. They both would be starting near the front, and their TMWs were clearly a good match for this track.

The morning before the race, fans and drivers were greeted to the track by French marching bands and throbbing Jouoangquoirais drums. Although Tsering could not hear the sounds, she could still see the frenetic rhythm of the drummers' arms flailing and their heads thrashing in time to the beat. The whole spectacle was exotic and exhilharating.

Qiang and Tsering started out drafting together, Tsering behind Qiang -- but then Qiang got tangled up with another driver and shuffled back. Tsering had to swerve to avoid hitting either of them, and now that she was separated from Qiang, she had to fend for herself. She still managed to stay out of trouble and have a solid race, finishing 6th.

Chieujeau, Jouoangquoi had its upsides and downsides, at least according to the GFR trio. The people were welcoming, but the accommodations were shabby. The scenery was beautiful, but the heat was unbearable. The food was great, but the phone and internet signals were spotty. Communicating with Jeremiah Brooke's parents in St. Kanye, who were taking care of his and Stacie Houston's son Jericho while the pair was off doing their racing duties, was a real hassle.

"Man, Vylet should really get a hold of this place," Jeremiah commented, referring to the ISP who provides his primary sponsorship.

"Yeah, or Five Star Mobile," said Stacie.

"Say what you want, but at least the locals are trying their hardest to accommodate us here," Thea Alvarez told them. "Other places have better facilities, but do the bare minimum in preparing for the races and the drivers' arrivals."

"Or worse, both the track and the preparations suck," added Stacie.

"What do you mean?" asked Jeremiah.

"I'm talking about places like Sedile, or Islas Aaland, or the last couple of seasons in Vangaziland.... yeesh," Thea replied.

"Yeah, while I'm referring to that Qaz... Qzvarkian.... whatever the hell that was a couple of weeks ago," added Stacie.

The GFR trio did their best to survive their stay in the Pearl Kingdom. There were generators at the garage, so they were still able to do some simulator practice. They also loved the attention and admiration given to them by the locals, Thea especially filling up on banana splits and native deserts. Jeremiah, being a good Christian, resisted all thoughts about the topless women walking around the place, treating them respectfully and accepting it as just part of their culture. Stacie was likewise friendly with the locals, but had to remind the males that she's taken by showing her hand with the ring on it.

So what was the downside to that week? Sure, there was an exciting finish with Team Tropicorp's Jenna Logan finishing just 0.011 second ahead of Rinzi Aogar Zakhilwal. However, the GFR trio were nowhere nearby to witness it, the team as a whole putting up their worst performance since the Tundra Falls 500. Stacie qualified third, behind fellow champ Kai Qiang and fellow Cassadagan Maddie Alexander, but her car felt off and she drifted (both literally and figuratively) away from the front of the pack. Some late race adjustments allowed her to make up her lost positions and even climb back into the top ten, but a caution halted her progress and she was lost in the shuffle during the final restart, eventually finishing 14th.

Image

Thea and Jeremiah didn't do any better,. Unlike Stacie, they didn't do all too well in quals, taking the 37th and 39th spots in the grid respectively. They did help each other move up the field, but were generally a non-factor all day. The former finished 27th, out of the top twenty for the third straight time, while the latter, at 29th, was outside the top ten for only the second time, the first coming at Tundra Falls.

"Just a little hiccup in our plan to make the Chase, that's all there is to it," Jeremiah told reporters. "We're gonna adapt, adjust, and get back on track, pun intended, for next week. The season is young, and I have a capable car and crew, so I'm not losing hope." Thea said, "Third week in a row. I'm not happy. I'm not coasting just because I'm in the Chase. Something really, really needs to be done, and I hope it gets done as soon as possible."

Thea fielded no further questions, and instead rushed out of the makeshift media center and back to the garage. When she arrived, she saw Ilya Tsunopin watching past races on tape, apparently preparing for his return to the track in two weeks in Esmerel. Last week, after Thea's poor showing, Ilya tried to comfort her, but things got too awkward when he got too touchy-feely with a hug. Despite that, Thea appreciated the gesture, and ended up thinking about it every night....

"Hey, Ilya."

"Yes, Thea?" The bearded R&D driver from 69X hit pause on the TV remote and stood, facing his full-time teammate. "What can I do for... HEY! I thought...."

In a reversal of last week's events, this time it was Thea leaning in for an unprompted hug.
