These Japanese artforms are largely unknown in Northumbria, but there are some cultured Northumbrian Japanophiles who appreciate it. One manga by the famous Japanese auteur Hayao Miyazaki, A Trip to Tynemouth, was set in Tynemouth, a Northumbrian seaside town.

Ausslaugandian entertainment industries work closely with an international distribution association called, Stemmen van Wilhelmus (StW). As the founder of the StW, all Hollandphone countries - especially the RNA (Republiek Noord-Amerika) - that import foreign/non-Dutch media or entertainment need to obtain subtitles and dub (if possible) from the aforementioned association. Japanese anime and manga are no different to the StW’s requirements.

Since the first Dutchmen discovered Japan, there has been active translation efforts between the two countries. Despite the animosities and sentiments from the Second World War (aka, Pacific War; 1941-1947), entertainment and trade continued to flourish, transcending borders and cultures throughout the Cold War. In fact, certain Japanese animation and filming companies have fluently bilingual actors, most of them speak Dutch (the rest speak German). This eliminates the need for dubbing provided by the StW, although Japan is very lucky, because very few non-Hollandphone countries have large Dutch speaking populations.

Anime and manga is therefore offered in Japanese and Dutch. Examples include:

Doesn't exist as a Japanese thing - because Japan does not exist, but the "Ethiopian-like island nation" of Orioni or any of the Celtic nations in Eurth probably has a variant cartoon form that would serve a similar purpose, which essentially pointing out the weeaboos.

Considering both Gandoor's close economic and cultural ties to Japan and the large number of citizens who are of Japanese ancestry (as of the 2025 census, 36% of the population identifies as being of either complete or partial Japanese origin), both anime and manga are extremely popular in the Democratic Republic.

While early English dubs such as Astro Boy, Speed Racer, and Gigantor were broadcast on Gandoorese television during the 1960s, the so-called 'anime boom' would not begin until the 1970s when the television network Rajio-Terebi (now known as National Network) began to license and broadcast various anime series. Most of these programs were aired unedited and in the original Japanese, but some series were dubbed into English in-house and aired as part of Rajio-Terebi's English-Time block of English-language programming. In contrast to what was the norm for English dubs produced in the United States at the time, Rajio Terebi's dubs, while often mocked nowadays for their cheesy voice acting, did not engage in any attempts at Westernization or censorship of these shows.

Regardless, the more serialized stories and somewhat more 'serious' nature of some anime that were being broadcast on Rajio-Terebi attracted positive attention and eventually proved to be more popular than Gandoorese cartoons which existed at the time, the majority of which were just episodic comedies.

In response to anime's growing popularity in our nation, many Gandoorese animation studios began to deliberately attempt to ape the stylings, genres, and storytelling methods found in anime in different ways. Some studios would merely copy the anime 'aesthetic' whereas others tried to produce somewhat more 'serious' and serialized cartoons while maintaining a more Western-influenced character design.

In the modern Democratic Republic, many animated TV series are influenced by Japanese animation (to the point where the term 'Ganime', a portmanteau of 'Gandoor' and 'anime' is commonly used to refer to Gandoorese animation), although just like in Japan, the term 'anime' is often used to refer to any animated series or movie within our nation, including ones which don't particularly look like the stereotypical depictions of what an 'anime' would look like.

Manga, on the other hand, has a different story in regards to its popularity.

Just like with anime, the manga industry in Gandoor is considered to have begun in the 1970s, although it didn't have remotely the same level of influence on Gandoorese comics that anime would have on Gandoorese animation. Manga simply had carved its own niche within the greater comic book market in the Democratic Republic.

This would change following the near total collapse of the domestic comic market in the early 1990s. Manga would quickly fill in the void left by the bankruptcy of Gandoorese comic publishers and would eventually become the dominant player in the recovering comic book industry.

In modern Gandoor, the majority of comics (over 70% as of 2026) published are Japanese manga, 20% originated from Gandoor, and 10% originated from other countries, predominantly the United States of America.

Because of the dominance of manga in the modern comics industry in our nation, the majority of modern Gandoorese comics take influence from manga. They are usually serialized in either weekly or monthly magazines with other comics, predominantly drawn by one artist (although artist assistants are extremely common and entirely solo artists are very rare) who may or may not also be the author of the work, and (after having been serialized for a while) have their chapters collected and sold in book-sized volumes. Although it should go without saying that English and Russian-language Gandoorese comics are usually published in left-to-right format and not right-to-left like manga is.

Japan does not exist in the world where the realm is located. Its roughly equivalent, the nation of Kikunomi, is a fair producer of fictional publications, both written and graphic. Usually these representations are known and cherished especially by people under 40 years old and people from Kikunomijin descent. "Text-wise" publications (like novels, light novels and serialized stories) are popular among adults, while "Graphic-wise" publications (like comics, manga or serialized strips) are more common to younger people. Animations are also popular among the same groups, as well as dramatized screenplays from Kikunomijin literature in live-action films, series and soap-operas. There are no specific numbers, but it is supposed that around 70~80% of the population in the realm already had contact with some piece of Kikunomijin literature.

it is acceptable in Uplen, but it needs to go through rating system that was made by the nation's government to make sure it's appropriate for younger viewers and parents will also have to do research on the anime and manga incase their kids are not watching anything above their age.

Due to Thermodolia’s historical tensions with Japan and being at war with Japan over the years, to include WW2 along with parts of Thermodolia being occupied by the Japanese (including parts of the mainland), Thermodolia and it’s people are not all that fond of Japanese inspired art forms in its nation.

The art forms aren’t banned but they aren’t popular at all and in some circles admitting to liking these art forms could cost you your job and friends.

As such it’s estimated that only 5% of Thermodolians like Japanese inspired art forms

Anime is popular in the Aquaria.

The government has no reason to ban them. It is the anime fans' choice to watch or not to watch a certain anime. In fact, the idea of setting up Academy Cities is influenced by an anime series called 'A Certain Magical Index'.

Despite Arrolleia's strict media policies, anime and manga is not banned due to the Empress's somewhat considerateness of her people's interests. According to Arrolleia's demographics, around 0.9% of the Arrogoth population are of Japanese origin since immigration was restricted, not a lot, but enough to make Arrogoths enjoy the animated media. Unlike "democratic" countries, the Empire does not outright ban any episodes unless they shame Arrolleia; even then the shows may continue.
Arrolleia, however, only has access to a few media due to the lack of Gothic-Japanese translators. Quite a bit of manga have been translated into New Gothic (or simply Gothic), but anime dubs are largely untranslated due to the somewhat lack of emotion in the Gothic language.
Anime films are also not displayed in theatres but rather small-picture cafes.

Anime and manga are both allowed in Delacia, as per Delacian legislature which permits all printed works to be published and sold to the Delacian public unless they contain confidential or classified information.

They aren't exactly popular, but they are still quite well known among the populace nonetheless.

Anime and Manga is a very popular pastime among HUElavian youth and nerds in the country.

There are channels and streaming services in HUElavia dedicated to anime, including some niche genres, as well as most book stores sell manga and light novels (mainly popular ones, niche or old ones are sold in specialty book stores).

HUElavia imports anime and manga from the IC-equivalent to Japan in the world, as well as there is a thriving animation industry that collaborates in making anime, as well as producing their own (due to the large Yamoto [Japanese] population in HUElavia).

There are guidelines as to what can be aired or sold to the public, which is age restricted.

During the formation of the Charter State, Anime and Manga were introduced by one of the founding groups. Former members of District 77, a "shadow government" from a world called Atlas. To this day, it is increasingly popular and secretly serves as one of the subject matters investigated in metaphysical research.

Anime and manga do exist in Rwizikuru, all of which are imports from Senria. However, it is only really popular among the middle and upper classes in major urban centres, where people can afford to actually watch or read the imports.

Manga is difficult to find in Asclepiaria due to being difficult to print the proper size for Plexi due to them being around Lilliputian size, as well as having to be translated into the Plexi chromabary (like an alphabet, but with colours, really helps since the Plexi are literal insect people), however there are a few Plexi Japanophiles that enjoy it.

Most of Deutsch-Francia's population has at least heard about anime and manga, although it is mostly the younger generations that are into it.

Anime is such an interesting way of entertainment, here in the H Corporation, we have our own studio that focuses solely on making Anime called "Blacke Studios" and there are a lot of studios competing for giving the audience what they deserve, anime is more popular than manga but the people always reference it to give you some perspective because some animes start after the ending of the manga, some animes would later have their own manga.

Overall the genres in anime are all evenly popular and just like any other community within the cinema industry, everyone is toxic towards each other. Lovely
