President Francesco Carcaterra: Yesterday was unpleasant, but we do what we must to preserve our Republic
President says government has demanded the hand over Jacqueline Bhabha - New "Foreign Entity and Influence Law" to tabled Friday

President Carcaterra called for national unity in wake yesterday's police action.

President Francesco Carcaterra told the Chamber of Representatives this morning that the “street action yesterday was unpleasant, but we don’t what we must to preserve our Republic. What happened yesterday was necessary to restore order, civility and everyday life.” Came as the government announced it would table a the “Foreign Entity and Influence Law” by Friday. The SD and Citizens described the police action yesterday as “excessive, authoritarian and draconian.”

In his first public address since yesterday, the President told the fully-packed Chamber of Representatives that the government regretted those who suffered injuries but argued, “when confronted with long-term efforts to disrupt the economic life of Etruria’s cities, it is our responsibility to take action. We do not oppose the right to protest, nor any right afforded by our constitution, but the refusal to end protest when it is causing economic disruption to urban areas and to individuals is unacceptable.”

He said further, “yesterday this government also took the bold yet necessary step to confront and eliminate the threat posed by the communist Subsection. Its assets are frozen, its leaders scattered back where they came from and its grip over our Satrian citizens broken. One leader remains, holed up in the Lavanian embassy. On this point, make no mistake, we will demand her be handed over, if not, we shall wait for when she leaves and bring her to justice.”

When opposition senators began jeering over the Tribunes’ applause, speaker Ivano Balić warned he would eject members saying, “for too long now we’ve had too much sound in this chamber. The people tire of it and I tire of it, both sides. No more sound, only the President please, then the leader of the opposition.”

The President continued saying, “we as a nation have faced many crises since 2016, many a plot has been foiled, be it the attempted extrication of two corrupt politicians via Pietromontecorvino, the sabotaging of a constitutional referendum, to the communist infiltration from Arthasthan, but each time we have emerged intact and victorious. Our Republic grows stronger with each plot against it and now we must go further.”

“Right now, the Euclo-leftist government in Estmere is housing groups that do not accept the results of three federal elections, that from the safety of Morwall do what they can to sow discord, violate our religious liberty and undermine our patriotic nation.

“That is why on Friday, this government will table its Foreign Entity and Influence Law, it will if passed establish a database of NGOs linked to foreign governments, or are foreign in origin themselves, this will require listed NGOs to take a series of actions to self-identify as such and enable state organisations to treat them accordingly to rules that shall be established in the law” the president explained.

Sources in the government have also indicated a willingness to table the “Foreign Disinformation and Propaganda Law” which was produced last year but not presented to the Senate. Under the law, the government would be able to block websites and ban printed publications through a court-order. The order would require evidence of fake news and lies being disseminated, the Public Affairs Court would be charged with accepting or rejecting the government’s requests.

In his address the Chamber, the President stated that the protests in Etruria were linked to a “full-scale offensive against the patriotic right in Euclea”, he said, “the events on our streets are not isolated, we now see protests in Paretia and the Piraean euclo-leftist government is actively moving to shut down its patriotic right. In Piraea free speech is under assault. What purpose does this serve other than to guarantee hegemony of the far-left and so-called conservative centre-right. In Paretia the euclo-left seeks to disrupt life with protest there. The Pink Wave collapsed in southern Euclea and now they make moves behind the scenes.”

“Even in Werania, our friends of the NKP are being bombarded by conspiracy theories. False accusations of corruption and criminality being levelled by the same people over and over. The patriotic right in Euclea must stand firm” he said referring to claims of Chancellor Otto von Hosslin having conflict of interests.

The President concluded his remarks by saying, “the unpleasantness of yesterday is now over. The disruption and agitation is over, now is the time for all Etruria to unite once more and continue the good work of rebuilding our democracy and republic, delivering prosperity, protecting the family and boost the family.”

A total of 2,504 people were arrested yesterday, though 387 face formal charges, the remaining mass of protesters have since been released without charge or caution. 386 people were injured, including 136 police officers and Auxiliaria. The Interior Ministry confirmed that the 18,000 Auxiliaria deployed will remain on our streets for a short but undetermined period.

Taji Abdalla - March 4th, 2022

Mauchan Kuloland announces independence referendum
Mauchan Kuloland Lead Administrator, Dundu Meshindi, announced this Friday, March 4th, that the Mauchan autonomous region will be organizing an independence referendum on March 20th.

Image
L.A. Dundu Meshindi speaks during a press conference

K.yadha - Earlier this Friday, March 4th, Dundu Meshindi, Mauchan Kuloland's Lead Administrator announced that the local government will be organizing an independence referendum on March 20th.

Meshindi announced the referendum right after Mauchan President, Werner Hamisi, stated that the union wants to promote "freedom for all people." Meshindi states that the federal government cannot contradict themselves as to repress the referendum, given that it would be contradictory to their own statements.

When asked by a reporter if the federal government was in accordance with the referendum, Meshindi said: "They go up there [Ibabochia], say they are fighting for freedom and whatnot, but they are secretly funding an independence movement in another country. They know better than to promote separatism out of their borders but oppress it within their domain."

Meshindi also positioned himself against Iskinder, Yemeti president who is responsible for the oppression of the Yemeti Kuloland. In the Maucho-Kulo leader's view, Iskinder is committing acts that hurt humanity, and he expresses deep support for the separatist front in the Yemeti Kuloland.

"We will fight with them if needed. The Kulo State is stronger together, and we will stand by this premise until the end."

A concern is raised, as of now, regarding how the federal government will deal with this situation. In 2012, former president Fundani Mda, President Hamisi's predecessor, elevated the then State of Kuloland to an Autonomous region, in an attempt to please the local rebels without allowing the integrity of the Mauchan territory to be affected. President Hamisi will now have to care about a referendum that, if voted in favor of secession, will cause a domino effect not only in Maucha, but across Bahia. On top of that, Meshindi's allegations of "fighting with and for our people" should be of concern to the federal government, as the Maucho-Kulo leader's statement goes against the position of neutrality established by the President yesterday.

If the referendum remains as planned, the people of Kuloland will be going out to vote on Sunday, March 20th, to democratically and officially announce whether the region's intentions of seceding from Maucha.

Behera's War in Yemet: One Month On
Control of Terasa remains elusive as Behera hints at major policy shift

04 March 2022 · Written by: Jim Wickham

A Beheran Army T-72AV on a highway near Giara.

Yesterday Beheran state media announced that the Ministry of Defence had purchased an undisclosed number of Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles from Zorasan, in what could be a subtle, or blatant, hint at the future of Amassine's policy in regards to the war over the border in Yemet.

In the media report, the Ministry of Defence stated that the vehicles would be used to equip military units for "security operations" as well as the Gendarmerie. This is significant as the Gendarmerie was reduced to a rump force to protect government installations in major cities under the terms of the peace treaty that ended the Beheran Civil War in 2001. Equipping the Gendarmerie with MRAPs represents an expansion of personnel and capabilities that the Beheran government had not previously revealed to the public does represent a change in tactics and the possible commencement of a longer term security operation in eastern Behera and northwestern Yemet.

The purchase of these MRAPs marks a transition in the intervention between conventional warfare and unconventional warfare. Behera's principal adversary in northwestern Yemet, the Emergency Council for the Restoration of National Unity (ECRNU), is composed of former ethnically Gero units of the People's National Liberation Army of Yemet (PNLAY), who quickly took control over the PNLAY garrisons and military bases in the region during a mutiny in November last year. Included within the new ECRNU's combat units was equipment seized from the PNLAY, including main battle tanks, artillery of numerous calibres, thousands of small arms and light anti-tank weapons, as well as complex surface to air missile defence systems. Behera's military response was one of engaging and destroying as much of the ECRNU's communications and command infrastructure as well as the destruction of the group's air defence capabilities, thus allowing for greater freedom of operations across northwestern Yemet. It also allowed the Beheran Air Force to engage other military targets and reduce the ECRNU's capacity to resist. Following the commencement of ground operations on January 8 this year, conventional operations continued as Beheran Army units engaged what remained of the ECRNU's forces, taking several towns in the process and coming close to cutting the main highway between Terasa and the border with Bamvango, a task that was completed three days later. A further successful encirclement operation cut off and destroyed a number of ECRNU units around the towns of Giara and Kolu in the far northwest of Yemet, with the operation commencing on February 18 and completed after two weeks of fighting, the final act being Beheran soldiers assuming control of the border crossing with Bamvango.

The end of that operation also marked the end of the conventional part of Behera's military intervention, as the majority of the ECRNU's fighting formations fled back to Terasa, forming what soon became a formidable barrier to entry for Behera's ground forces. Terasa now forms a rather significant bulge in the front lines in northwestern Yemet, with slow progress being made to the northeast and southwest of the city. From the south, it appears Behera had been willing to place the offensive being led by the PNLAY, with units being sequestered from garrisons in major cities around Lake Hayik in order to bulk up the force for the operation. Progress has, so far, been painfully slow and especially costly, with social media accounts tracking the war in Yemet posting videos of ECRNU anti-tank teams successfully engaging PNLAY units and destroying tanks, armoured vehicles, and other equipment. Indeed, it appears that the PNLAY struggles to acquire any momentum against the ECRNU without significant air support from both Behera and Zorasan, the latter operating out of the main airport near the Yemeti capital, Girota.

Behera's transition to an unconventional conflict comes with the commencement of "security operations" in areas where the Army has established control. Army units have reportedly gone into towns and villages looking for ECRNU members and sympathisers, rounding up those whom they have suspected of fighting, or providing support for, the ECRNU, and detaining them. Towns like Dagoma and Gari, to the southwest of Terasa and behind the front lines, have become processing points according to locals, with trucks filled with blindfolded young men and even children being driven into former military bases and compounds once occupied by PNLAY and ECRNU forces. Footage posted to social media alleges extrajudicial killings committed by Beheran Army soldiers, although the locations or even the times that they occurred have not been verified independently. Even so, what footage that is making out of Behera's occupation zone shows the country is preparing for a long term operation. Checkpoints have been established along the principal highway leading north from Terasa, where Beherans have established bunkers and search vehicles for wanted individual and weapons. Nonetheless, Terasa, an important logistical hub and major communications centre in northwestern Yemet, remains outside of Beheran control.

Another sign of the transition away from the conventional warfare waged during the initial intervention is the greater use of much more lightly armed formations, typically used for patrols and rapid manoeuvre. Video posted to social media from inside the conflict zone still shows substantial armoured formations near Terasa, corroborated by satellite imagery shared to Euclean media outlets covering the conflict, but videos of new engagements show the Beheran Army resorting to the use of technicals, armed with heavy machine guns, light cannons, and various anti-tank weapons. Analysts have said that these are likely irregular units being used in place of more reinforced mechanised and armoured formations, although there is some doubt as they are better equipped and coordinated than the units that were being incorporated into the regular Army after a major constitutional reform last year. Nonetheless it shows that Behera is unwilling to risk more losses of main battle tanks and other armoured combat vehicles to very mobile and very potent ECRNU anti-tank teams. Behera has also employed long range artillery systems, including heavy howitzers and multiple rocket launcher systems to engage stationary ECRNU positions, or more recently, engaged in the shelling of the outer areas of Terasa. There is some evidence that Behera has suffered significant losses that would prompt a change in tactics. Sources from the Gaullican Ministry of Defence have stated that they estimate Behera has lost between 150-200 main battle tanks in the month since it began the military intervention, in addition to a similar number of armoured combat vehicles. Most of the main battle tanks observed in the intervention being fielded by Behera are T-72M and T-72AV main battle tanks, of which there were an estimated 170 and 400 vehicles respectively in the Beheran Army's inventory prior to the intervention. If the numbers are accurate, it represents a massive blunting of Behera's armoured force and something which would significantly impact decision making processes in Amassine regarding future deployment and use of armoured formations. Presently, it is not clear as to whether or not Behera has the ability to replace the losses and how many, if any, replacements have actually been received. Zorasan produces the T-72 under licence, but it is not known whether any of these vehicles have been acquired by the Beheran Army. Personnel losses are also believed to be high, with estimates between 1,100 and 4,500 personnel killed in action and an unknown number wounded. Despite these losses, Euclean and analysts from other places have not yet found evidence of low morale among Beheran forces, although discipline within the Army especially is considered to be problematic.

Losses have also been recorded in the Air Force, with a notable decrease in Air Force activity in the civilian and military airports close to the Yemeti border. Within the last fortnight, Beheran Air Force strike aircraft have halved their sorties over Yemet and helicopter engagements have also been substantially reduced. Prior to the intervention, Behera's Air Force had a fleet of 211 aircraft and 102 helicopters. New estimates based on observed numbers at various air bases shows that 195 aircraft remain in service, including an estimated eight strike aircraft and some multi-role combat aircraft. In terms of helicopters, 76 are estimated to remain operation, and an additional thirteen are considered to be in inventory but non-operational, with reports indicating that helicopters damaged by enemy fire and recovered are being cannibalised for usable spare parts. This reduction in fixed wing and helicopter combat aircraft have been noted through state media, where footage from unmanned drones has been played on television with increased frequency, particularly over the last fortnight. Behera's military cooperation agreement with Zorasan does include drones, and satellite images have shown what appear to be several unmanned drones lined up on the tarmac at a military airbase outside the eastern city of Garé. Zorasan has been observed using the SAI Gharatdar as well as Zamboor-2 and Zamboor-3 unammed combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs) in Yemet, but whether or not these are also in service with Behera is largely uncomfirmed. Analysts have said that the UCAVs observed near Garé are operated by Zorasani ground forces, with vehicles and assorted buildings also observed at the complex. If Behera transitions to the use of drones, it will represent a substantial change in the role of air power in conflicts within Coius. This may be the case for Behera, as replacements for aircraft and helicopter losses do not seem to be forthcoming.

Loss replacements being hard to come by could be a sign of a growing rift between Beheran and Zorasani interests in Yemet, although policy analysts and experts in both Rahelian and Zorasani politics have stated that it's unlikely that if there are disagreements, that they would be substantial. It could be explained by a lack of reliable information or that Zorasan simply doesn't have the stocks of vehicles to provide Behera with replacements. Behera itself has some way to go before its own inventory is severely depleted, but the government has now become cautious about where and when it commits its armour.

The transition to an unconventional war also signals a broader shift in Beheran policy towards its long term security goals in Yemet. Although it believed it could be done with a conventional war, the dispersal of ECRNU fighting units and the solification of resistance around Terasa has prompted a switch to a long term occupation in northwestern Yemet, something which it wasn't prepared to do initially but may now be forced to do on the basis that an occupation, and perhaps the creation of a buffer zone, may be the only path frowards for Behera if it wants to meet its stated security goals.

Purchasing MRAP's may seem like an innocuous exercise, but with the rate of progress, the losses taken by both the Army and Air Force, as well as the need to meet their stated security objectives, Behera is now undergoing a substantial shift towards a long term military involvement in Yemet.

Alslandic Greens say they're prepared to run the government

  • The Alslandic Green party has been leading polls since 2020 and are increasingly confident of emerging as the largest party in September's election as they confirm former Presidential candidate Sjearp Groeneveld as their candidate for Premier.

BY Wobke Boonstra
PUBLISHED: 5 March 2022

The Alslandic Green party is prepared to run the government says their leader Sjearp Groeneveld who has dismissed fears that the party would be incapable of leading a government. Speaking to the press Groeneveld said: "We have been a member of the government since 2014. We have the experience and expertise needed to run a Euclean government whilst also prioritising protecting the environment and the Alslandic people."

Image
The Greens confirmed 35 year old Sjearp Groeneveld as their leader

Yndyk, Alsland - Groeneveld made the comments as the party prepares for the upcoming election campaign where the party hopes to double it's seats in the Folkssenaat and lead a governing coalition. The party's annual congress was held in Yndyk over Friday and Saturday and was attended by party members from across the country.

The main topic of the Congress, protecting the environment and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2035 was overshadowed by the far more dramatic prediction that the party could emerge as the largest political party in the Folkssenaat after the upcoming election in September. Since 2020 the party has been predicted to win the most seats in the Folkssenaat according to various pollsters, dislodging Liveable Delland who have held that position for nearly a decade. Such a result would give the party the first chance to negotiate a coalition and become only the second green led government in all of Euclea - after Kesselbourg.

According to the most recent prediction, the party would win 24 seats, nearly 10 seats more than the closest other party Liveable Delland if an election was held today. The prediction is in line with other polls since 2020 that have predicted similar results for the party in an election.

Such a result would be a shattering event for the Alslandic political establishment, on par with the Workers Party victory in 2006. It would be a crushing defeat to the Liveable Delland dominated coalition that has governed Alsland for nearly a decade. It would cement the party's status as a major force in Alslandic politics and deal a crushing blow to the pillar system that has flourished in Alsland.

At the party's congress in Yndyk, party members widely backed former Presidential candidate Sjearp Groeneveld to be the party's leader and candidate for Premier. Groeneveld told delegates after being elected that they are prepared to run a positive campaign focused on protecting the environment and social justice.

"We will run a campaign that focuses on key issues to voters, protecting the environment with a mix of government run programs and free market involvement, reforming the education system, building thousands of new affordable homes to end the housing crisis and ensuring the rights of everyone in the country are protected".

Groeneveld, a centrist, has been a keen supporter of involving private industries in Alslandic climate policy. As Environment Secretary he created the Green Business Forum to promote dialogue between the government and private enterprises on reducing Alslandic emissions and sustainable growth. Prior to joining the Green party he was a member of the eco-conservative Community 2000 party but left in 2017 to join the Greens.

"With Groeneveld as their leader the Greens are trying to recapture the momentum that nearly led them to win the Presidency in 2020" ANS political correspondent Rayk Herder told us. "Voters see them as offering a change whilst also associating them with experience because they're in the coalition. Their two Cabinet Secretaries are also the two most popular members of the cabinet."

"What's more the party can attract left-wing voters with promises of social justice and environmentalism and right-wing voters with promises of helping free enterprises and Groeneveld's own history of being a small-c conservative."

Government proposes its “Foreign Entity and Influence Law”
Law will be "aimed at protecting Etrurian society and democracy from divisive groups operating under false pretences"
Opinione
04 March 2022

Image
Interior Minister Gianfranco Galizia presenting the law to the Chamber to jeers from the opposition.

The government has officially proposed its Foreign Entity and Influence Law to the Chamber of Representatives in response to what Interior Minister Gianfranco Galizia described as a “period of concerted effort to undermine the government.” The law will grant the federal government significant powers to confront hostile foreign entities attempting to influence Etrurian society and democracy.

In the proposal session, Interior Minister Gianfraco Galizia said the law would “provide the tools needed to see off outside elements that seek to sow division, tear us apart and do so under false names and banners.” He said further, “when groups seek to undermine or reject electoral results while hiding behind causes such as legal aid for immigrants, the government will make sure the truth is revealed.”

The Interior Minister also argued, “when these groups have their headquarters in foreign capitals, notably in countries that share their disdain for the patriotic right in this country and elsewhere, the justification for marking them as foreign entities is just, noble and right.”

“Democracy is a fragile thing, it is a precious thing and it must be protected and nourished, both within and without at all times. It is our duty to preserve and protect our Republic” he said further.

According to the contents of the bill, the Interior Ministry will establish a database of “Foreign Entities.” These groups and organisations will then be required to do the following:

• Provide weekly reports to the Interior Ministry on their activities, including financial records and communications with organisations and groups registered inside Etruria.
• Declare on all websites, publications and productions distributed inside Etrurian territory that they are a Foreign Entity.
• Provide monthly reports to the Justice Ministry detailing its activities and funding plans.
• Agree to and submit to an annual audit by the Interior Ministry.
• Foreign Entities will no longer be permitted to raise capital in Etrurian territory for collection, use or expenditure outside of Etrurian territory.
• Failure to adhere to the above will result in a ₣250,000 fine. Repeated failure will result in incremental fines of ₣100,000 ontop of the ₣250,000 base fine.

The law describes a “Foreign Entity” as a group, civil organisation or structure that “receives funds from external territories and conducts political activities within Etrurian territory.”

Interior Minister Galizia further said after explaining the contents, “after our successful foiling of the Subsection plot to infiltrate Etruria and overthrow our parliamentary system, this law will guarantee that never again will outside influences gain such power and control at the expense of Etrurian civil power.”

The bill is expected to pass with many Tribunes lauding the law on social media and during television appearances. The SD and Citizens both criticised the bill during the session, with Chiara Mastromarino accusing the Tribunes of “finding yet more ways to suffocate Etrurian civil society in a desire for absolute control, this bill is unconscionable, unconstitutional and cannot stand.”

It is expected that all NGOs and groups that received “sanctuary” in Morwall will placed onto the database. Other groups linked to the EC or its associate organisations will also be viable for being placed on the database.

The law may be fast tracked through the lower-house owing to the bill having been presented to various committees in a piece meal fashion last year according to a source within the Tribune Movement. Another source in the State Council of the Federation has also hinted that the upper-house may call for it to be tabled there to bypass the committee stage if not.

The government also stated that it would be tabling Coriolano Crin Cioran’s “Foreign Misinformation and Propaganda Law” next week. The now-Industry and Labour Affairs Minister produced the bill last Summer to confront what he said were “barrages of propaganda and falsehoods aimed at undermining the government.” He cited the infamously false story in The Continental, claiming the Tribune Movement had received funding from the Soravian government through a middle-man, something since rejected by both the Civil Security Service and Federal Electoral Commission.

A government spokesman yesterday said, “the Satrian Report together with other minor outlets were peddling lies and distortions throughout the protest period. In our digital age, societies need to be protected from this efforts. That is why the government will be tabling the Foreign Misinformation and Propaganda Law some time next week.”

NEWS |Lavana at the center of a growing international and internal disputes.
Lavana suffers scandal abroad and inside, as the situation appears to turn into a crisis.
2022-03-05T 16:20:30Z

The situation in Lavana has been deteriorating quickly. A week ago the Premier chaired a meeting of the Lavanan Section of the Workers International (LSWI), General Assembly. Now the General Secretary of the party enjoying his new found majority of supporters in the party, now actively condemns Premier Laina Keomany in regular tweets.

After Jacqueline Bhabha entered the Lavanan embassy and was granted asylum last Tuesday, a complete crisis has exploded regarding this. Although the party would have approved of government actions, which according to Etrurian sources was a carefully coordinated AIS maneuver.

Was Jacqueline Bhabha’s entry into the Lavanan embassy a coordinated move by the AIS?

Keomany has had multiple fires to deal with. On tuesday as well, numerous Lavanan nationals were murdered in Hacyinia in an attack at a PetroLav facility in that country, her response has been tame while attacks on her from the party have been mounting. Another fire was started the 2nd of March, when Champania a socialist country, diplomatically attacked Lavana for their handling of Jacqueline Bhabha and support for the Satrian Subsection in Etruria, after defending Etrurian actions, which Lavana has called dictatorial and Functionalist in nature. Lavana retaliated albeit with insults. Champania struck back by shutting down numerous Lavanan institutions in the country and recalling their ambassador. Lavana returned the message by recalling their ambassador, and shutting down Champanian institutions in the country. General Secretary Khudu Narimanoa however took the stance with Champania, praising them for stopping the so-called “Liberal-Functionalist” institutions in their country, naming the Premier in everything but name.

Keomany is now dealing with the largest Socialist crisis in the last decade, with them at the center, a diplomatic spat with Etruria, and the possible collapse of economic interests, along with the fracture of a neighboring state. All while deep infighting within state institutions dominate Lavanan papers. The Lavanan Financial Times, a party owned newspaper has begun publishing corruption accusations against the Premier and her appointed cabinet, while the Lavanan Unitary a paper associated with Keomany’s United People’s faction has begun doing the same. What is the question is Narimanoa’s future actions, his positions have aligned him directly against the Premier, yet he has not pulled the plug on Keomany, taking away her legal party mandate to rule. Although Narimanoa holds the ability to disable Keomany and her premiership at any moment, he fears public outlash. Keomany is reported to hold quite the support of the Lavanan electorate, something Narimanoa and his hardliners don’t have, Keomany could call upon her supporters to the streets and create pressure if need be.

What will happen remains to be seen, but the situation looks increasingly worrying for observers, as Lavana is engulfed in tension and instability, as its gears actively infight. The General Secretary who has sided with Champania in this instance is worrying, as this exact faction toppled Champanias generally Liberal government just a couple months ago.

Novigrad - Today, Parliament has passed what many are calling a "Double Whammy" bill. The bill, officially called Build Back Better (BBB), has provided both the central government, as well as local governments, with much needed resources to address issues with infrastructure and education.

Starting with infrastructure, the BBB bill has allotted additional funds and manpower to the overhaul of Central Highway. This highway, which received much needed maintenance two years ago, has since fallen back into disrepair. BBB will ensure the highway receives new maintenance and continues to receive maintenance. The bill also provides funds to begin the construction of a rail line to run parallel with the Central Highway. Known as the Central Railway, this project will provide both jobs and an additional avenue for transportation within the rural interior.

The second part of BBB deals with education. As promised in his outline for 2022, the Abramov administration has finally decided to take on the challenge of dealing with the countries education system. BBB has provided a substantial increase in the salaries for teachers teaching K-12, with the lowest salary now sitting at $40,000/year. The previous salary for educators had been $20,000. Aside from increasing salaries, BBB has queued up renovations for over 20 schools in the Ravnian interior. From overhauling outdated electrical systems, to providing new textbooks and equipment, BBB is set to provide much needed assistance to the educators of the Ravnian interior.

Besides the content within the bill, the fact that BBB was able to pass parliament at all has shown remarkable cooperation between the NCF and the RSF, something not seen in years. Some speculate that the silver tongue of Prime Minister Andiry Avramenko is to credit for this legislative victory. Other point to the high popularity of President Abramovs administration. Whatever the case may be, it is good to see Parliment getting things done.

CITADELLE NOIRE
Elements of the Azure Army’s 5th Mountain Warfare Regiment have been mobilized for assignment to the Brindamour Federal Military Zone, according to a spokesperson from the Azurenne Continental Defense Service [ACDS] on Monday. The deployment marks the first time Azurenne regular army personnel have operated in Brindamour since the 2009 Spring Offensive, replacing the previous contingent of National Gendarmerie personnel that had been charged with keeping the rebellious territory pacified. Talks between representatives of the Provisional Councilist Committee of the People’s Free State and government envoys had previously broken down over the weekend in the aftermath of the first major terrorist attack on an Azurenne military facility in nine years last Thursday.

Marshal-General André Augustin, commanding officer of the Army’s Northern Defense Corps announced the deployment at a press conference in Citadelle Noire, the ACDS’s forward operating base in the territory, citing increased security risks to the national constabulary and civilians in the region. “We did not ask for this fight, but we will rise to the occasion and ensure that peace and stability are brought to bear in Brindamour.”

The Brindamour Federal Military Zone has been a sore spot in Azurenne diplomatic policy for the past eight decades, ever since the conclusion of the Azurenne Civil War [1937-1947] which saw the defeat of the Councilist Vague Rouge at the hands of a coalition of social democrats, republicans and conservative Solarian Catholics. The remnants of the Vague Rouge took refuge in the remote Sythes-Juoda Basin in the extreme northwest of the country, where their descendants have continued to wage a guerrilla war against the ruling government in Sartoux in the ensuing decades.

Attempts to broker a diplomatic solution to the ongoing strife have never borne fruit, despite several promising attempts at concluding a formal peace in the 1990s under the Social Unity Front’s lone majority coalition under Alistair Laurent. Because a formal peace treaty between the former combatants was never signed, the country remains technically in a state of de facto civil war, even though no major world governments recognize the legitimacy of the Vague Rouge in Brindamour. The Sartoux government has labeled the remnant a terrorist organization, and has rejected all calls by Vague Rogue spokespeople to divest itself from Brindamour and grant home rule to the Councilists.

Speaking in front of the Blue Manor executive residence Monday morning, Azurenne Premier Céleste Auberjonois of the Parti Conservateur [PCR] majority coalition announced that the government was prepared to take all necessary steps to finally ending the decades-long impasse in Brindamour and finally root out, quote, “those forces which seek to undo years and years of hard work to build the kind of country our great-grandparents fought to achieve.” When asked if a diplomatic solution could still be achieved, much as the previous stopgap measures which had ended military operations in the territory in 2009, Auberjonois offered a grim prognosis. “As much as we would like to hope, events on the ground lead us to believe that we are going to have to fight to bring this threat to a close.”

Congress was abuzz with reactions to the news from Blue Manor regarding the deployment; Opposition Leader Armin Baraka (ML – Saint-Sébastien, Front de l'Unité Sociale [FUS]) announced his tentative support for the move, stressing the changing arithmetic of the situation on the ground. “Of course we want diplomacy to prevail in this circumstance; the FUS wants this, and I believe the PCR wants this as well. But when innocent civilians are coming under threat, and can no longer move freely in their own country, then necessary steps must be taken to bring the elements of evil to heel.”

Not all members of the opposition shared Baraka’s position: fiery progressive socialist Danys Fèvre (ML - La Nellé-Melesse [FUS]) called the councilor’s statement “a betrayal of values” and said that she would work to support the peace process “at all costs”. Fèvre is one of a handful of far-left congressional representatives who have publicly advocated for a two-state solution to the conflict, believing that the Vague Rogue has legitimate grievances with Sartoux despite opposition to their methods in dealing with them. “Sartoux is not innocent of this conflagration, and any rapprochement with the dissident movement in Brindamour must begin with this acknowledgement if peace is to succeed there.”

The general public at large does not share in the councilor’s sentiments, however. According to an ARGENT/IUL Poll conducted in February, 79% of the population supports Sartoux adopting more stringent security measures to bring the Brindamour territory into line with the rest of the country. A firm majority of 65% of those polled [sample size: 7,545] believe that military action in the territory is justified if it will prevent further loss of life among civilians living in the disputed region.

This latest round of contention was spurred on by the suicide bombing of a constabulary depot near Mount Roy on Thursday, severely wounding six deputies and killing three civilian staffers working at the facility. The attack was roundly condemned by both sides of the aisle in Congress, but ignited fears that the long-standing détente between the government and the dissident movement was beginning to unravel. The Vague Rogue claimed responsibility for the attack, linking it to increased constabulary presence in the territory over the past six months.

At some point you have to cut your losses and move on; isolation didn't work, and trying to militarily force a conclusion hasn't worked. If those a------s want to be free of Sartoux's control, let them. I'll bet Satucin could move in and restore order to the Sythes-Juoda Basin really quick.

Paretian High Court hears case over abortion law
After the O Povo government passed the "Women's Cultural Reform Law", the Tosuton government has made efforts to undermine the law from reaching their region. The court will hear the case in a battle between federal and regional governments and the extent of healthcare law in Paretia.

Premier Cerqueira and Tosuton Regional Premier Caselles seek victory in the case

Precea, Luzela:

Pro-Tosutonia protests outside of the High Court in Precea
Today the Paretian High Court in Precea has begun to hear the case of the Patron League-led government against the Constituent Kingdom of Tosutonia, claiming their law passed in November made to curb the LP government's "Women's Social Reform Law" passed in September, which restricted most abortion in Paretia, is invalid stating that the Tosuton government is not within jurisdiction to make such a law against the national law. Many political leaders say this case will either be a massive victory for the Patron League's agenda, or a major victory for the opposition in Paretia, and this alongside cases like Trovão are taking center stage in Paretia's politics as of right now.

The law was spearheaded by Tosutonia's Regional Premier Talia Caselles as they claim they are within the constitutional bounds of not allowing a national health law be enforced within their region. The dispute has been sent to the Paretian High Court as they interpret cases in relation to the consitution of the United Kingdom. The Court stated that they will not see the case a matter of whether abortion is right or wrong, but based upon the limits of either the regional or federal governments of Paretia pertaining to health laws.

The creator of the Women's Cultural Reform Laws, Deputy Premier and LP General Secretary Selena Caprichoso, stated that "the SD opposition is desperate for a win against our movement, they really, really want to be able to murder the unborn, it's sick, but must pray for the Courts to see this case as what it is, a failed attempt to subvert the Paretian democratically elected government, through the view of our constitution, our government is well within the right to enforce this bill in Tosutonia." Premier Cerqueira said that they "trust the Court in making the right decision", and that if they choose in favor of the O Povo government, that she expects violent protests: "these subversive socialist-liberal sects have been causing chaos in our neighbor Etruria, they will use this as justification to being that over here now, I have coordinated with regional leaders in preparing for this."
Image
Anti-abortion protests in Ocerto

SD leader Esmeralda Falcão made this statement today: "The vagueness of our constitution has caused this case to occur, but we hope the Courts see that the Tosutons are purely in their reach when it comes to this, but we must also remember that this case also is a crossroads for women's right to choice in Paretia. We will pray that they decide wisely and wish good luck to our Tosuton associates as they bravely stand up for rights in these troublesome times in our country."

Regional Premier Talia Caselles has become a rising star in the Social Democrats and opposition in Paretia ever since she stood up against the O Povo government. She stated this today before the case was heard "We will fight for women's rights, if we cannot stop them on the national level we must at the very least do the best we can as the regional leaders of this country to fight back against these attacks on our rights as women to take care of our own bodies, we will win."

Other leaders in the country also commented, leader of the Democratic Voters Movement Barboza stated that they hope that the Courts votes "in a constitutionally correct manner, and that this case will not further divide our people." Catholic Citizens leader Campos stated that he is also indifferent on the court battle.

Protests in support of and against abortion have begun, the country has already been dealing with daily protests for nearly two weeks over the Patron's support of the Tribunes, as well as the Trovão corruption case trials, and now the Tosuton-National government case over abortion. There have been protests in every major city in the country, with numbers in the thousands. It is believed that these protest will begin to grow, they include both pro-LP government and anti-LP groups, and in some cases for the former, far-right functionalists joining them.

Political science professor at UMeV Gilberto Couto Pires in Precea said this today with Papel Peninsular: "This is the Patron's first real test in government, the political uproars all occuring at the same time will make it clear if they are competent in their agenda or not, if lets say they lose both important cases, their strong image will be ruptured and the Social Democrats can easily attempt another try at the Pink Wave again in the future. And if the Patrons win both of these, expect further attempts to push their agenda this year, the precedent will be set for them to continue on their campaign promises. I also suspect a rise of the centre again as it appears the Democratic Voters Movement appears to be rising in polls, too much chaos will wear off on moderates."

Most of the sitting judges on the High Court were appointed during the Justice Ministries of Pascoal and Gonçalves, and once during Cerqueira's term as an independent, this has lead to LP leaders calling for the court to make their decision on the constitutional extent of the Tosuton government and not their opinion on abortion itself.

LIVE | Political crisis in Lavana
Khudu Narimanoa: "Keomany a disgrace to the nation"
11:55pm Sunday March 6th
Image

General Secretary of the Lavanan Section of the Workers International, Khudu Narimanoa has stated on national Lavanan television. That the Premier Laina Keomany has overstated her duties, and has announced that she is no longer the acting Premier of the country, removing his support for her. A right he holds under the Lavanan constitution, that will lead to her immediate dismissal. He has approved Suhk Bagabiada to lead an interim government until the Lavanan Congress can vote on a new Premier in the coming days.

With the recent international crisis in Hacynia, Etruria, and Champania. Narimanoa has taken the opportunity to attack Keomany, citing her leadership as useless and pointless. Today he called her again, stating that her leadership had led Lavana to Liberal-Functionalism, and turning Lavana into a laughing stock. Calling the Premier useless and guilty of treason, stating that she has been poisoned by the international capitalist in Gaullica and Estmere, who plot the overthrow of Lavanan socialism and a return to colonialism, stating Zoe Hallivar the Prime Minister of Estemere seeks to cover her hand with the blood of Kachais worldwide.

Bagabiada stated that the armed forces will be deployed to Pers and other cities to ensure the peace, and that the police have raised a warrant for the capture of numerous members of Keomany’s government, including the apparent former Premier, on charges of corruption and treason. He also stated that anyone who opposes this set of affairs will be jailed and charged with treason. Stressing the population remains calm, and inside their homes.

Narimanoa has just performed a coup, and if reports of gunfire inside Pers are correct, it means that a coup is currently taking place in Lavana. Military forces have been moving around Lavana, especially following last Tuesday, when the party elections took place following widely controversial electoral law changes which upset the balance in the government. Giving Narimanoa a majority in the party allowing him to threaten the Premier, and her position. The Premier was last seen in her residence for a working dinner with Youth Ambassadors from Terjasa.

The brief 10 minute speech, he claimed victory over the coup attempt orchestrated by former Premier Laina Keomany. He decried rogue elements of the military and the national service for their actions in the coup, and stated that all who supported the coup attempt would be punished.

At the moment however, support for Narimanoa seems limited, as massive protests erupt all over Lavana. Army units are also engaged outside city limits, and it's possible they could attempt a breakthrough into the capital. Keomany for her part has not been heard of since 4am, but it cannot be verified if she remains in a position to challenge. Narimanoa made no mention of her capture, or to an end in hostilities.

Shangea gains a new top leadership - who's in, who's out
In light of Legislative Elections several members of the State Presidium have been shuffled in, and several shuffled out - and its apparent Yuan has tightened his grip on the nation.
Ikehara Chinami reporting from Keisi, Senria
8 March, 2022
With the Shangean Legislative Council having re-opened following the January elections the State Presidium has been reshuffled by State Chairman Yuan Xiannian. Under the constitutional amendments approved last year several members of the State Presidium are assigned five year terms - the presidents of the four councils (executive, examination, judicial and legislative) and the ministers of the executive council. In a bid to shore up his power Yuan has put some old faces out, reshuffled others and placed new ones in.

The most headline-grabbing change is the shift of the Executive Council President (commonly called the premier) Jiang Zhongyu to the International Relations Ministry with the head of the Bank of United Development Wen Kezhi resigning from his post to take the premiership. But other changes have occurred - key Yuan ally Xu Bangguo has been removed and Examination Council President Jin Baoshun retiring being replaced by the Mayor of Rongzhuo Tang Shanyuan. Other key figures like Legislative Council President Wang Hongzhi, Judicial Council President Yi Shaoqing, vice-premier Yuan Qinqin and Finance Minister Mao Lejiang have stayed in their posts.

Who are the newcomers.
Image
Current BDU President Wen Kezhi will become
Executive Council President.

The President of the Bank of United Development (BDU) Wen Kezhi has been appointed as president of the executive council, commonly known as the premier. Wen is a lifelong technocrat - he served as Governor of the National Bank from 2004 to 2016 and the deputy chairman of the national bank from 1995 to 2004. In 2016 he was elected as the BDU president. Despite having never served in the executive council Wen is respected across Shangea for his economic expertise - it was due to his prudent management as head of the National Bank that Shangea largely avoided the 2005 recession. As BDU head he continued to promote public-private partnerships in key areas of infrastructure, healthcare, education and resource development being seen as a neutral figure in disputes between memberstates. However Wen has been accused of overlooking corrupt aspects of BDU projects.

The appointment of Wen suggests a shift to a more-economy focused government over the foreign policy focus of the previous premier Jiang Zhongyu. Wen is fairly uncharismatic but is respected for his economic expertise and long record of public service. Wen's appointment as premier over more establishment candidates like Jiang, vice-premier Yuan Qinqin and Legislative Council President suggests a desire to avoid naming a successor pre-emptively. By appointing a stereotypical grey technocrat Yuan seems to hope that a more low profile figure to implement policies already decided by the State Presidium.

Image
Rongzhuo mayor Tang Shanyuan will become
Examination Council President.

The new Examination Council President has been announced to be the Mayor of Rongzhuo, Tang Shanyuan. Tang is somewhat of a troubleshooter for the Shangean government - in 2008 he was appointed to head Shangean State Railways which was at the time considered ill-managed with corruption leading to billions in infrastructure grants being wasted every year. Tang was credited for clearing up corruption in the organisation cutting unnecessary projects, eliminating waste and firing corrupt officials. Under his tenure Shangean State Railways became one of the most profitable government corporations and was considered to be well run mainly due to Tang's efforts. As a result in 2014 he was appointed Mayor of Rongzhuo. Such a posting may have been a bold move to combat corrupt or a cynical move to remove a man who had made many enemies. Rongzhuo is notorious for the corruption that pervades the city administration so it is highly likely Tang was sent either to clean up city administration or his opponents wanted him to sink in the enormity of attempting to do so.

Tangs tenure as Rongzhuo mayor has been mixed - whilst he has launched an anti-corruption drive Tang has been accused of focusing more on political opponents particularly during Normalisation. Nevertheless he remains popular making his appointment as Examination Council president an interesting prospect. The bureaucracy has been pruned of many dissidents through Normalisation but corruption is still prevalent. Like with his Rongzhuo mayoral appointment, Tang may have been thrown into the role to clip his wings - or to pull off the biggest success of his career.

Image
General Lin Weiyuan will become
Chief of General Satff.

The new chief of staff is lieutenant general Lin Weiyuan. Lin is the current commander of the Strategic Reserve Force and has been a key military planner over the last decade. Having served as a divisional commander in eastern Shangea responsible for the suppression of socialist insurgents, Lin is reportedly one of the generals who directly planned Operation Eastern Protection and has generally shaped Shangean strategic policy in eastern Coius over the last decade. As such Lin has been associated with policies that include advocating a hardline approach to Kuthina and attempting to draw Siamat and Nainan into formal military alliances with Shangea.

Lin is seen as an ally of his predecessor Ren Shaokun and likely won't engage in fundamental military reform being a safe choice for the position. The extent of Lin's influence in military policy in the past decade and his independence from Ren is uncertain and so its probable that he may be a weak personality in comparison to his peers.

Who's been reshuffled.
Image
Current Premier Jiang Zhongyu will move to
head the International Relations Ministry.

Current Premier Jing Zhongyu has been moved to the post of Minister of International Relations, a post he previously served in from 2007 to 2014. As the second longest serving member of the State Presidium after Yuan Jiang has been seen as the architect of Shangean foreign policy since 2007 with its shift towards a greater focus on south-south cooperation and the right to exercise a "firm hand" in south Coius. Jiang, a polyglot, is widely seen as one of Shangea's foremost diplomats and is considered one of the most influential figures in the country.

As premier however Jiang has proven a disappointment. He struggled to get to grips with domestic policy and paid little attention to economic management despite the primary responsibility of the premier being to oversee economic development. Jiang is widely seen as having an aristocratic bearing and struggled to connect with the population. During Normalisation Jiang did lead to the government to function more efficiently, enabling the purge of government departments and largely staying loyal to the Normalisation programme.

Nevertheless the move of Jiang back to International Relations is a welcome one. Jiang is still one of the most powerful men in government and considered a close confident of Yuan. With a banker appointed as premier Jiang is likely going to be given a free hand at foreign policy, a job he is well suited for and has the experience to pull off. With the situation in Siamat deteriorating, relations with Kuthina terrible, nuclear talks with Senria frozen and Euclea beginning to reassess relations with Shangea Jiang has a busy in-tray.

Image
Current Chief of Staff Ren Shaokun will move to
head the Defence Ministry.

The current Chief of Staff Ren Shaokun has been moved to the position of Minister of Defence and Military Planning. Ren gained prominence as the Commander of the Southeast Military District where he was the main general responsible for Operation Eastern Protection making him one of the most popular figures in Shangea. In 2010 he became the Supreme Commander of the Rongzhuo Strategic Protocol Organisation a post he held until 2017 when he was appointed Chief of Staff. During that time Ren has been closely associated with Yuan Xiannian and helped shape the Armed Forces into an organisation loyal to the State Chairman.

Described as tough and unsmiling Ren has been a dominant figure in Shangean security policy over the past decade and his move to the Defence Ministry is a sign he continues to hold influence. The fact one of his proteges has become Chief of Staff is another indication that Ren continues to dominate the army and so will continue to ensure it remains a bastion of support for Yuan Xiannian.

Who's out.
Image
International Relations Minister Xu Bangguo
has been appointed as Chief Propagandist.

The Minister of International Relations Xu Bangguo has been removed from the State Presidium instead being moved to the Office of Morality and Social Purity, the body responsible for censorship. Xu has served in the State Presidium since 2007 first as Defence Minister and since 2014 as International Relations Minister, making his removal somewhat of a surprise. Regarded as one of the core supporters of Yuan Xiannian, Xu has been seen as a crucial voice in support of an aggressive approach in the Normalisation process alongside a general hawkish approach to foreign policy.

Xu's appointment as International Relations Minister in 2014 was widely criticised within the ministry. Unlike previous foreign ministers Xu had not been a member of the diplomatic corps having never served as ambassador to a foreign country and reportedly had little foreign language skills. At the time Li Daohan stated that Xu's appointment was an indication from Yuan wanted "the premier will oversee foreign policy in its execution whilst Xu will be responsible for Yuan's likely strategic goal - militarising foreign policy approach through a far more ideological lens then the usual transactional view supported by bureaucrats".

Xu has as International Relations Minister underperformed. A poor diplomat who never had the trust of ministry bureaucrats the end of Normalisation has meant that Yuan has wanted to project a softer image making the prickly Xu a liability. Although his new role is important it is a demotion and shows his increasing political decline from a figure once talked about as a potential leader of Shangea.

Examination Council President Jin Baoshun
has retired from public life.

The president of the Examination Council Jin Baoshun has been the only member of the State Presidium to decline to serve again instead announcing his retirement from public life. A career bureaucrat Jin has led the Examination Council since 2012 being a key supporter of Yuan Xiannian. During the 2016-17 protests Jin reportedly supported a firm line against the protesters siding with State Chairman Yuan Xiannian, Judicial Council President Yi Shaoqing and International Relations Minister Xu Bangguo.

Under Jin's tenure the Examination Council played an instrumental role in Normalisation being responsible for the suspension or removal of over 1 million people from their jobs. Jin praised normalisation as the "largest and most effective anti-corruption campaign in human history".

Jin at 78 is the oldest member of the State Presidium making his retirement expected.

Defence Minister Zhao Qinghai has been
appointed to an undisclosed new post.

The incumbent Defence Minister Zhao Qinghai has been moved to an undisclosed new post. A retired admiral Zhao had previously served in Naval Intelligence and was regarded as a key ally to both Yuan Xiannian and Ren Shaokun. His tenure as Defence Minister has been largely uneventful other then his continued advocacy for Senria to return the Sunahamas islands to Shangea and criticising Estmerish violations of Zorasani waters by frigates in 2019.

The National Constabulary of the Azure Coast [Gendarmerie Nationale de la Côte d'Azur] announced that it had intercepted and killed three men attempting to detonate an improvised explosive in Freedom Square near Congressional Hall in Sartoux shortly before 9 AM local time. Capital Precinct Chief Asa Beauchemin and Deputy Minister of National Defense Jacob Bonheur held an impromptu press conference outside the police cordon announcing the incident, along with a mandatory 24-hour lockdown on the capital while the constabulary and national security agents investigate the scene of the thwarted attack.

The identities of the attackers was not released.

“Azurenne citizens are advised to avoid the Caille-Sartoux Metropolis while our investigation is ongoing; there is no immediate threat to the general public at this time, but out of an abundance of caution we want to be vigilant for any potential follow-up attacks,” Beauchemin reported. “We had a narrow miss today, and we don’t intend to allow the forces of evil to get over on us.”

Deputy Minister Bonheur stopped short of speculating as to a motive, though he could not rule out the possibility of Vague Rogue involvement. “Obviously, we hope that these individuals were lone wolves working to some perverted self-motivation or ideology. Our intelligence community has been carefully monitoring the situation in Brindamour, and if any link is discovered during our investigation, the government will take the necessary steps to keep Azurenne citizens safe and bring those evildoers to justice.”

The attempted attack took place prior to the opening of the day’s session in the Capitol, with eyewitnesses reporting that three men in masks exited a white utility van parked near the security checkpoint established just forty-eight hours ago following the announcement that elements of the Azure Army had been deployed to the Brindamour Federal Territory after increased Vague Rogue attacks in the region. Onlookers say that three armed, uniformed members of the National Constabulary approached the individuals and opened fire, striking and killing all three. Members of the police force in Sartoux are not typically issued firearms.

Beauchemin did not release information on the nature of the explosive, except that it had been neutralized on-site and secured for transport to the National Explosives Vault in South Caille. Indications however purport to demonstrate that a possible mass-casualty event was averted. “The loss of life that could have occurred from this incident highlights how important it is for our security forces and our intelligence community to remain vigilant. It was only through the hard work and dedication of our law enforcement officers today that we avoided a tragedy on a massive scale this morning.”

The thwarted attack has led to a dramatic increase in tension around the country. Several major cities in in the south and west of the country, including the metropolitan areas of Camarès-et-la-Vallon, Réquista, Sainte-Genevieve, Souchon and Veyreau have placed mandatory 9 PM curfews for all local citizens. The aforementioned cities have also activated their Emergency Continuation of Government (COG) command centers in the event that copycat attacks are attempted. In addition, the Comtés des Auvray-LaClair, Bonne, Casavant, Sarazen and Ponthieux have all placed their Guards de Comté on yellow alert, the second-highest security level possible. Only the Comté de Lehideux currently sits on red alert; the remaining Comtés remain on orange alert.

NEWS |Keomany holds session in the Lavanan Congress following the successful coup attempt.
Many worried in the Lavanan Congress following recent events.
2022-3-9T 15:20:30Z
Image
Keomany addresses the Lavanan Congress.

48 hours after Lavana became engulfed in a political crisis, which resulted in General Secretary Khudu Narinamoa withdrawing his support from Premier Laina Keomany, and granting it to Suhk Bagabiada, a member of Congress. Although legally he had to be voted on by the body, he was acting Premier, granting him control of the armed forces. Keomany in response launched a coup against Narinamoa (who legally had a right to withdraw support, and name a new acting Premier at any moment).

What followed was intense street fighting in numerous cities, between Government and Pro-coup forces. Massive protests as well erupted. So far the tally has been 200 soldiers killed, and 300 wounded, 13 armored vehicles destroyed, 22 damaged, 1 helicopter destroyed, and 2 damaged. Civilian casualties are at around 300, according to a government estimate.

Although Narinamoa announced his resignation during the evening of the 7th, he was arrested that night. Fighting continued into the morning. Most worryingly were the reports of “Death Squads” being deployed to numerous cities to round up supporters of Narinamoa. Keomany’s comments today seem to verify those reports.

Keomany released a list online of some 40,000 names of individuals involved in some way with Narinamoa and the recent attempt to sideline Keomany. Among the names include numerous Lavanans who live in exile, and diplomats living abroad. Champanian individuals were named in the list, along with individuals from other countries. It seems that Keomany has launched a witch hunt to eliminate all political opponents. The list is accessible online, and states that “patriots” should report the whereabouts of these individuals to the police. Today in the congress all members of Narinamoas circle were missing, and many of them were sat in the end of the congress, their fate remains unknown.

She stated that the Lavanan state would be deeply reformed, and that a new constitution would be written in the coming days, stating that Lavana would become a beacon of democracy. She denounced the “functionalists” in Champania, and Etruria ordering that embassies be emptied and nationals return to their countries. She stated that Champania was ready to provide whatever was necessary to destroy Lavana, and called them an enemy of the Lavanan people.

Keomany who has usually been seen as the beacon of moderation has taken a page out of the regime she claims to have toppled in the last 3 days, in ordering massive arrests and a general purge. A worrying sight is the ever increasing number of tanks reported everywhere in the country. Police and soldiers routinely patrol the streets, despite many believing a new start to the country, the sight of what seems like an occupation worries many.

Today's news in short
Foreign Entity Law passes chamber - Civil Security Service to interview Subsection members - Etruria severs ties with Arthasthan and announces travel ban

State Council is to receive the Foreign Entity Bill tomorrow

Foreign Entity and Influence bill heads to State Council

The Foreign Entity law has passed the Chamber of Representatives 396-204, with the voting falling along partisan lines. The bill will be presented to the State Council of the Federation tomorrow and is expected to pass on Friday.

The Foreign Entity Law will establish a federal database of organisations that engage in political activity while receiving foreign money and or has branches or is run in a foreign country. Organisations placed on the database will required to report to the Justice and Interior Ministries regularly to update them on their activities, as well as publish their status as a Foreign Entity in all publications, printed and digital.
The government told the Chamber when it was presented in the week, that the law will provide the federal government the means to “defend and protect Etrurian democracy from foreign influences, who openly seek to undermine our Republic for ideological or geopolitical reasons.” The bill is widely seen as an appropriate response to the foiled plot by the Arthasthani communist Subsection to overthrow the government.
Both the SD and Citizens have announced they will launch a joint legal effort against the bill, claiming it violates the constitution.
However, the government countered that such laws would be permitted in the name of national security.

Foreign Ministry summons Amathia’s ambassador as ties are cut with Arthasthan and a travel ban is implemented

The disgraceful escape of wanted terrorist leader Jacqueline Bhabah from the Lavanan embassy in Povelia to Amathia and then onto her communist homeland has provoked fury among the Foreign Ministry.
The Amathian ambassador to Etruria was summoned by Foreign Minister Paolo Galba to express the “Federation’s considerable displeasure at Amathia’s failure to apprehend a wanted criminal and terrorist.” However, the Foreign Ministry did confirm that the issue was unlikely to “sour relations, owing to the persistent failures of Amathia’s border guards in virtually all areas, predating this latest failure."

However, the starkest development of today was the expulsion of Etruria’s diplomatic staff from Arthasthan, in protest over the seizure of Subsection assets and its designation as a terrorist organisation.
Shortly after midday, the government announced it would be “cutting all formal diplomatic ties with Arthasthan’s communist regime and introduce a complete travel ban across all Arthasthani territory effective Friday.”

The government also reported that “any further provocation by Arthasthan’s regime will result in immediate economic action by the Etrurian Federation.”
Civil Security Service to “interview” as many of the 238,000 Subsection members as possible

The Civil Security Service has announced that it will “interview as many members of the Subsection as possible by the end of the year.”

The announcement came as the federal law enforcement agency began its lengthy search of the Subsection’s HQ in Solaria. Among the various documents of interest was its membership list.

A spokesman for the CSS told reporters this morning, “our search of Subsection properties continues, including its headquarters. Among the various pieces of evidence of importance and interest was its membership lists.”

“In light of the organisation’s designation as a terrorist entity it is our intention to conduct interviews with as many members as possible by the end of the year. It is important that we establish an understanding of those who funded and supported this organisation” the spokesman said.

Leonardo Gaspare Aurelli, the Under-Secretary for Domestic Security told ARE this morning, “we need to know who among the Subsection’s membership are die hard ideologues and who is merely a member out of love for the home country. There is difference, just as there is a difference between all our Satrian citizens. Those who are ideological and sought to bring communism here, we will find them."

Union’s technical advisors hard at work in Bessharia as State President meets Khan
State President lauds Union's technical advisors during visit to Choch

State President Rahim Ali Haftar (R) with Makbule Arda Khan in Choch.
The Union’s technical advisors working in Hacyinia were lauded during a meeting between State President Rahim Ali Haftar and Makbule Arda Khan, the Hacyinian monarch. The State President reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to “long term cooperation and shared prosperity between the Union and Haycinia.”

The State President arrived in Choch this morning and held talks with Makbule Arda Khan at the royal palace in the evening. The two discussed numerous issues, including the Union’s provision of technical advisors in Bessharia, where they are supporting the Khanate with its petrochemical industry, telecommunications, and domestic security. The technical advisory group is drawn from multiple Union Ministries, agencies, and state-supported enterprises. The two also discussed cultural and educational exchanges as well as the troubling security situation in Lavana.

The State President told reporters before visiting the Khan, “the Union is keen and committed in providing advise and support to Bessharia and all Hacyinia. It is always our goal and aim to see shared success, development, and prosperity for this is what defines our age in Coius today.”

The Union has been one of the most active and persistent partners of Hacyinia since the end of its civil war in 1994. The Union has invested heavily into the economy of Bessharia, the Khanate of Hacyinia, while investment has grown in Syran, the equalist state of Hacyinia. The Union and Hacyinia signed a “friendship and assistance agreement” in 2020 under the previous Union-Leadership, which secured for Bessharia especially, technical advisors from multiple sectors. Among the areas where work is being done include petrochemicals, telecommunications, domestic security, and infrastructure. Last year, work was completed in connecting the Lake Zindarud Railway, enabling a direct journey from Choch to Bandar-e Zinda, the capital of Janubistan. Plans are under way to further expand transport links, via Feryedunekar and Aminabad.

During his visit, the State President met with several technical advisors working alongside security officials in Bessharia. He was photographed lunching with them and their hosts, discussing with them the key work they are doing in assisting the security improvements seen across the Khanate.

The State President told the advisors, “What you are doing is key for the continued stability and peace found in Hacyinia. This a country with great potential, but potential everywhere must be always protected from those who would see it denied.” He also said “security is the bedrock of all success stories of nations. National success is born through order, discipline and unity and that is what you are providing for Bessharia and Haycinia.”

The Union maintains close ties to security officials in Bessharia, a consequence of Hacyinia’s brutal conflicts prior to peace in 1994. These ties have proven fruitful for the country, as it enabled the deployment of Zorasani trainers and advisers to Bessharia.

NEWS | Hacyinian government officials come hat in hand to Lavana, Dezevau
A delegation, led by the Hacyinian prime minister, begin two country tour to meet with new Lavanan leadership and Dezevau.
2022-3-12T 11:35:01Z

With a quiet announcement on official channels, Prime Minister of Hacyinia Erasyl Rinat and several Hacyinian government officials jetted off earlier this morning with stops planned at Pers and Bazadavo. The sudden diplomatic tour follows both the successful coup of Laina Keomany as well as the Zorasani state visit to Hacyinia’s competent state of Bessharia, which notably sidetracked the national capital completely to visit the Khan’s palace in Tuska. Erasyl Rinat was vocal in his support for General Secretary Khudu Narinamoa during Keomany’s coup attempt, and it is safe to assume that Prime Minister Rinat is attempting to gauge how much his support might have affected the long standing partnership between Lavana and Hacyinia.

Following his apology stop in Pers, Prime Minister Erasyl Rinat will end his brief tour in Dezevau. With Lavana’s once solid support of the Hacyinian regime in question, Prime Minister Erasyl Rinat will likely be attempting to ensure continued support from Dezevau. As Zorasan’s public announcements confirmed it’s continued support for the Khan of Bessharia, the Prime Minister cannot afford to lose any of it’s closest allies especially with the threat of conflict looming high in Hacyinia.

Although unusual for a Head of Government to be so directly engaged in foreign policy, the government in Hacyinia has been so disjointed for so long that in the region nobody has batted an idea at the thought of the Prime Minister jetting off to meet with allies instead of holding parliament. Makbule Arda Khan, the Head of State for Hacyinia, has famously refused to meet with Lavanan and Dezevauan officials for the past decade.

According to our experts, the consequences of this short tour could determine what the coming weeks could look like in Hacyinia. Assuming at least Lavana or Dezevau, or ideally both from Rinat’s point of view, continues to pledge their support for Rinat’s government then immediate conflict in Hacyinia is unlikely. If both governments decline to support Rinat’s government, then the risk for conflict in Hacyinia breaking out suddenly is exponential. If Lavana and/or Dezevau view stability in the region worth more than the costs of supporting a collapsing state, or at least denying Zorasan the ability to solidify a foothold in the region, then Hacyinia will be abe to maintain.

The renowned endurance race at Thunder Road International Super Circuit has seen its first female winner in the 99-year history of the event, as Fayette Simonot claimed the victory in the 2022 Veyreau 8 Hours. Driving for Albie DuPont’s MotoSport Azur team in her Vaillancourt Spirit XS, Simonot posted her fifth GT Ultra victory and her second endurance race victory of her GT career. The victory at Veyreau on Saturday marks the final start of her career, and the only victory in a solo-competitor race on the tour.

“We gave it our all and came out on top,” Simonot said in victory lane after the event. “We’ve been coming here for so many years, trying to tame Thunder Road. Damn does it feel good to finally notch this one in the win column!”

The season-ending Veyreau 8 Hours included a host of drivers making their final GT starts, with Simonot leading the group of individuals transitioning to Classe Première open-wheel racing when the new season begins in April, ironically at Thunder Road International Super Circuit. Other GT drivers making the transition include 2022 season champions Donald Goulet and Charles Martell-Lecleryn, 2021 season points runner-up Rene Michel and former Veyreau endurance champion Kyn Movoran.

“Motorsport competition is increasing with regular frequency now that the Azure Coast has become a hub of racing activity,” CC.P President Michelle Auvelin stated while addressing the press following the conclusion of the event on Saturday. “The upcoming CC.P table will be the first with foreign teams competing in the series, a move that the GT Ultra series will follow suit on next season.”

“It’s an exciting time to be a fan,” Auvelin said.

Classe Première open-wheel racing and the GT Ultra Series have a working partnership to help one another advance in growth, thus helping to explain the crossover. Members of Classe Première racing’s junior series often crossover into GT competition while waiting for a ride to open up in the open-wheel league’s top series. For the 2022 Thunder Road champion Fayette Simonot, that partnership will open a door for her to pursue the long-illusive, most illustrious prize in Azurenne motorsport: the Veyreau Triple Crown, victories in the Veyreau 8 Hours, CC.P’s Grand Prix at Thunder Road, and the Grand National Series’s 500-mile saloon car race in July at the Sarazen Superspeedway in South Veyreau.

The Veyreau Triple Crown has existed as a potential prize since 1957; the closest to winning the Triple Crown a driver has come was the fabled 1978 campaign of recently-deceased motorsport legend Emile Rougeau, who won the first two legs of the Triple Crown by winning the Veyreau 8 Hours event in March before finishing atop the podium at the Grand Prix at Thunder Road the following month. A mechanical failure while racing in the top five at the National 500 at Veyreau-Sarazen Superspeedway ended his Triple Crown bid later that year; no other driver has ever won more than one Triple Crown stage in a single year.

The Grand Prix at Thunder Road will kick off the Classe Première open-wheel racing season on Sunday, April 3rd. Simonot will be joining the Vaillancourt Team looking for the next stage in the Veyreau Triple Crown.

NEWS |Keomany announces new constitutional changes.
Keomany announced her reforms earlier today following last weeks successful coup attempt.
2022-3-13T 15:20:30Z
Keomany in a fiery speech to the Lavanan Congress announced the constitutional changes that would be taking place. She mentioned the 30 years of machinations and corruption of what she called “Bourgeois” politicians, and laid the groundwork for the changes.

Lavana will become a federal state. Currently the country has 20 provinces, with each subsequent level of administration headed by a council which rotates members after a set amount of time to be head of the council and break any ties. Keomany stated that the country would grow to 24 provinces, with 4 Autonomous provinces representing the 4 ethnic minorities of Lavana. All provinces and subsequent administrative levels will remain the same, with leadership of the council stated at a minimum of 1 month, and a maximum of 6 months. All provinces will elect a governor. All provinces will send a 3 member delegation to the Lavanan Congress. The Autonomous provinces will have certain rights to their own internal dealings.

The court systems will be changed, separating the party from any dealings with the court systems. All members of the Supreme Court will be voted on and approved by both the Premier and the Congress, to serve 5 year terms. The Electoral court will be created to serve 2 election cycles, to oversee elections.

Lavana will hold elections in all its councils every 4 years. Candidates from any of the approved political parties along with independents may run for office. All parties and candidates must be approved by the Electoral court. After 60 years of existence, Lavana will have free and open elections. Of course so long as they’re approved by the Electoral Court, who has its members appointed by the Premier. The current legislature will grow from 760 members to 849, which do not take into account the 4 provinces Keomany will create when elected premier following elections, their delegations will be completely approved by the Premier, so the Congress is not done expanding. The expansion will grant a set number of seats for all 7 Ethnic groups of Lavana, granting seats to abroad Lavanans, and 51 seats to be assigned to individual municipalities to better represent them based on population, all of them going to cities.

The LSWI will become a regular party, and separate the Premier from its own machinations, the party will return to its previous election rules. The General Secretary (who Keomany appointed herself as), will become a solely administrative position. The party's paramilitary branch will be outlawed, although all its members will be incorporated into the Armed forces.

State owned companies, which represent a majority of the Lavanan economy will be granted greater freedom, and its operating committees will be reformed. State owned companies will be allowed greater ability to make business abroad. The Lavanan economy will also open itself more to foreign goods and products, along with investment. All foreign ventures will be managed by the Ministry of Economy, but won’t have to be carried out by a Lavanan based subsidiary. Foreign companies may now make investments directly in Lavana, so long as they’re approved by the Ministry of Economy, with their capital ensured to remain free of nationalization.

Although this sounds rather liberal, the reforms are more akin to the 1990’s where minimal changes were done. Power remains concentrated in a single figure, the Premier who although may now contend with democratic parties, which only contend as far as the Electoral court, who is directly appointed by the Premier allows it. The State owned companies will have new administrations and minor reforms, while the old corrupt apparatus is replaced by Keomany’s inner circle. Foreign investment in the country will focus either on markets Lavanan state owned companies allow to enter, or utilizing Lavanas large labor pool for exportation abroad. Although luxury goods might become much more noticeable in Lavana, they will be held by a slightly growing middle class, while the corruption of previous regimes will continue most likely unimpeded. Just this time held by a more diverse group of individuals stemming from Keomany’s circle.

Already Keomany purges have netted thousands of teachers, journalists, politicians, public servants, generals and business leaders. These positions are being replaced by Keomany loyalists. One such example is Khampheng Juidange, granddaughter of Keoamany, who was studying Biology in a Kirenian university. Now she’s slotted to be part of the Ministry of Health, which is headed by her uncle.

Von Hösslin and Kanthar "personally intervened" for Hosokawa to be granted contracts, leaks find.
New leaks from the premiers office indicate that the government continually lobbied for the Hosokawa corporation to receive government contracts.

WESTBRÜCKEN, WERANIA - New documents released to Der Staatsmann today indicate that the Finance Minister Wolfgang Kanther and premier Otto von Hösslin have "systematically favoured" the Hosokawa corporation in various government contracts after it was revealed that the premier had several secret dinners with Hosokawa executives previously undeclared to the public. .

According to a leak the Finance Ministry in July 2020 vetoed a contract for modernising telecommunication infrastructure in Ruttland previously allotted to the company Werner Hauss GmbH instead giving it to Hosokawa subsidiary Iwasaki Telecommunications Company on the basis that Werner Hauss had "failed to meet the perquisite standards for public contracts".

Werner Hauss had been given the contract in November 2018 over a bid from Hosokawa by the Ruttish provincial government with the contract being approved on a provisional basis by the federal government two months later, then consisting of the Social Democratic Radical and Modern Centre parties. Following the 2019 federal election however the new NKP-led federal government after consulting with the Ruttish provincial government decided to place the contract on hold due to concerns that Werner Hauss, then in financial difficulty, could not meet its own goals with the Minister of Regional Development Melanie Bätzing-Lichtenthäler pushing for Werner Hauss to agree to an auditing process. After a series of meetings between Werner Hauss, the Ruttish government and the Regional Development Ministry a new contract introducing more stringent auditing of Werner Hauss's finances was approved in July 2020.

The finance ministry however which had the final say on the project decided at the last minute to cancel the contract entirely on the basis that Werner Hauss had not demonstrated it could effectively carry out the contract. Finance Minister Kanther then unilaterally awarded the contract to Iwasaki on the basis that their bid despite being more expensive "met the sufficient expectations for the re-development of the Ruttish telecommunications network".

The decision was at the time challenged by the Ruttish government who had originally awarded the contract to Werner Hauss and queried the decision to give it to Hosokawa on the basis that the Hosokawa bid had "not been cost-effective compared to Werner Hauss". Reportedly the Regional Development Ministry which had poured considerable resources in auditing and rewriting the Werner Hauss contract were blindsided by the decision to switch to Iwasaki with Bätzing-Lichtenthäler being "furious" at Kanthar for not informing the ministry. Premier von Hösslin however vetoed a reopening of contract negotiations in August 2020 allowing Hosokawa to go on ahead with the project.

Another case was in July 2020 when the Transport Ministry in the process of privatising its controlling interest in the federal transportation system, the Bundesstaatseisenbahnen (BSB), pushed for Hosokawa's Weranian office to be included amongst potential investors. The original legislation stipulated that the 31% stake being sold could only be brought by Weranian-based companies but in an amendment submitted by the government Hosokawa's Weranian branch was eligible to buy the stake. During the debate regarding the amendment Transport Minister Beatrix Schockenhoff named Hosokawa in particular as a "key partner in Weranian infrastructure policy".

New leaks indicate that during the BSB privatisation the premier and finance minister pushed for Hosokawa involvement overriding the concerns of foreign minister Käthe Schickdanze who voiced concerns of a foreign-based company owning shares in the federal rail service. Her concerns were dismissed by the premier on the grounds Hosokawa's Weranian office was a separate entity to the main company in Senria.

In another leak in March 2021 as part of the implementation of the controversial Healthcare Choice and Provision Law the government gave another Hosokawa subsidiary, Seido Medical Equipment, preferential status as a supplier of medical equipment to both private and public hospitals. The Health Minister Sabrine Dümmler confirmed in a meeting with hospital administrators in May 2021 that Seido was the "preferred supplier" of medical hardware by the federal government and that federal regulation was based on their standards.

Der Staatsmann has contacted the premiers office for comment.

Shangea's new government - an indication of a reformist turn, or entrenching Yuanism?
New appointees to the Shangean government have more moderate political approaches then their bullish predecessors - but are also weak figures compared to the towering supreme leader.

BAIQIAO, SHANGEA - The appointment of a new State Presidium (the highest ruling body) in Shangea has on the face it been a big political shift. Figures who have been at the top of Shangean politics for decades have been shuffled out in favour of newcomers to the body. Most notably the premier Jiang Zhongyu, long considered the consigliere to president Yuan Xiannian, was demoted to his old post of foreign minister whilst Wen Kezhi, the president of the Bank of United Development, replaced him despite being a political neotype. Xu Bangguo, another of Yuan's long-term associates, left the ruling body completely whilst the veteran head of the civil service and power broker Jin Baoshun retired to be replaced with the reformist but hot-headed mayor of Rongzhuo Tang Sheyuan.

The new appointees are generally considered more measured in their politics. The previous premier, Jiang Zhongyu, is considered the architect of current Shangean foreign policy mixing support for economic globalisation with a more aggressive security posture - a policy derided for worsening Shangea's relations with its neighbour whilst producing mixed results in the rest of Coius and the Asterias. Jiang's appointment as premier in 2014 replacing the more liberal Xi Yaotong was intended to bring a "geopolitical" dimension to Shangean government policy.

The hope of Yuan and his camarilla was for the previously haphazard coordination between career diplomats, security officials and economic technocrats to be streamlined to maximise gains in foreign policy and ensure unity in action. To this end Yuan did not appoint the typical career diplomat to the post of Foreign Minister but rather the then-Security Minister Xu Bangguo, a close ally of Yuan known for his anti-Senrian stance and brittle personality. Xu was tasked with pursuing reforms in the ministry to shift from a more transactional view of foreign relations to an ideological one based around greater securitisation and realising the Shangean "grand strategy" of a re-direction of global supply lines and economic links from Euclea to southern Coius.

But after almost eight years its been widely perceived that the so-called "geopolitical administration" failed to live up to expectations. The Normalisation measures introduced after a wave of discontent lead to the government to pour much of its energy in repressing domestic opponents whilst directing resources to refining the coercive instruments of the state. This meant that far from applying a geopolitical approach to governance almost every policy was viewed through the lenses of Normalisation significantly effecting the outlook of the government and its overall approach which became more narrow-minded, quicker to antagonise and obsessed with security concerns.

Part of the blame also however have been pinned on Jiang and Xu. Although Jiang remained an excellent diplomat he was considered a poor premier failing to articulate a coherent economic policy and being seen as aloof and elitist compared to his straight-talking predecessor. Xu was in turn regarded as out of his depth lacking the diplomatic skills expected of a foreign minister and failing to reform the foreign ministry in the direction Yuan wanted.

The new government on the face of it promises a different approach. The premier Wen Kezhi is well respected on economic affairs having previously served as the head of the central bank. His fiscal conservatism and timely interventions helped Shangea avoid the worst of the 2005 recession as well as hold down inflation, a concern that has recently begun to be raised again. Wen's appointment alongside finance minister Mao Leijiang's assertion in December that Shangea would not deviate from its "growth first" economic strategy in the near future suggest that Yuan hopes to put a more economically-focused agenda at the forefront in the near future rather then foreign policy adventurism or domestic repression. The removal of Xu from the ruling body, appointment of Wen and retention of Mao, Jiang and Defence Minister Rao Shaokuan also indicate that more technocrat rather then nationalist factions are likely to dominate Shangean politics.

That said, its important not to make too much at the present moment. The new State Presidium still contains key nationalists like Yuan's daughter Lu Qinqin and the judicial chief Yi Shaoqing. The fact that the recent election was dominated by homophoic rhetoric in support of new legislation indicates that the Shangean government is gearing up for cultural clashes with Euclea particularly after senior government ministers sneered at Euclean backlash to the laws.

Indeed many of the new appointees are politically weak - Wen having spent six years out of Shangean government has no support base and Tang has a long list of enemies from his previous jobs of Rongzhuo mayor and head of the national railway service - and the inability of others to retain their previous posts indicates that Yuan still calls the shots.

Notably Yuan has effectively ended any prospect of a successor any time soon. Jiang has long been seen as the heir apparent but his inability to retain the post of premier suggest his influence is on the decline. Other candidates who were often mentioned as potential replacements for Jiang as premier - Xu, Mao and Legislative Speaker Wang Hongzhi - either lost their posts or retained them, suggesting Yuan does not see them as possible successors given the imposition of five-year term limits for them will render them to old to take the post in 2027. More intriguingly the fact that Yuan passed over his own daughter to appoint an essentially faceless bureaucrat also indicates that he does see her as ready to take control of the government and that if she is penned is as the successor she need to build her own support base first.

Whatever the case, the new Shangean government has unambiguously demonstrated one thing - Yuan continues to show that he retains the initiative in Shangea's government and will continue to be the primary decision maker in the near future.

The Capitol Grounds in Sartoux was turned upside down Wednesday with the stunning passage of the National Economic Investment Law (Gaullican: Loi d'Investissement Économique Nationale), popularly known as LIEN. The shocking result came after a surprise snap vote shortly before 12 PM this afternoon by Deputy Premier Raquel Banzet while Premier Céleste Auberjonois watched from the Blue Manor executive residency. Many insiders had predicted the stalled centerpiece of Auberjonois’s “Five Pillars” platform would be sent to an oversight committee after conservative members of the Parti Conservateur, or PCR objected to the language in the bill.

The legislation passed Congress by a vote margin of 56-43-1, largely thanks to bipartisan support from the reform wing of the PCR and the moderate wing of the FUS, the Social Unity Front ( Front de Unité Sociale). The law will now proceed to the Premier’s desk for final ratification, a formality at this point.

The move shocked pundits in Sartoux, many of whom believed that the new Premier would seek to accommodate her party’s majority by revising down the ambitious legislation which sought to centralize the nation’s fragmented patchwork of banking syndicates into a cohesive whole, wresting control from the Shires (Comtés) who previously oversaw the independent systems. Opponents of the law argue that centralization of the banks represses the wealthier Comtés from being able to do business independent of Sartoux’s control, violating the spirit of decentralization inherent to the 1973 Blue Revolution. That episode saw the ouster of a twenty-three year junta from power led by war hero-turned-autocrat Alban Serreau, and the establishment of the current Azurenne democracy.

Proponents of the bill argue that the nation’s decentralized banking system makes concerted answers to economic crises impossible, pointing to the 2015-2017 Stagflation Crisis in the country as evidence to support their claims. The establishment of a new overarching banking system and the creation of a new fiduciary trust to oversee creditors’ deposits into the central banking system is seen as a means of stabilizing the currency during both deflationary and inflationary periods, which will help the national economy on the whole.

Conservatives in the PCR have opposed the bill on technical grounds, noting that the new system would absorb the individual Comté banks into a new whole, uplifting some areas while weakening the financial prospects of others. It was that measure which attracted breakaway support from the Social Unity Front’s moderate wing, led by opposition leader Arminastus Baraka, who supported the measure as “a common-sense approach to banking regulation in a modern economy.”

In addition to centralizing the nation’s banking structure, the law also creates a Public Trust which would invest taxpayers’ money in foreign corporations and enterprises, returning a dividend to the general population – the first form of Universal Basic Income established in the history of the Azure Coast. It also creates the Small Business Investment Corporation, a new government program offering loans to individuals seeking to establish and grow small businesses. PCR and FUS officials agreed on the measure’s inclusion during the legislation’s drafting after a cap of businesses employing less than one hundred people was instituted in the final language. It is believed that the prohibition on the new Public Trust Corporation of investing in Azurenne businesses – known by its legislative acronym SNIP (Société Nationale Investissements Publics) – was a compromise by the moderates in the FUS to get the UBI initiative into the legislation.

Parti Conservateur leadership in Sartoux offered no comment on the law’s passage, citing a forthcoming-statement from PCR chairman Ghislain Veil on Thursday. RND World News legislative correspondents Émile Descoteaux and Jean Coué contributed to this report.

Opinion - Judge Tiago Montenegro is no supporter of the blindness of justice, he was compromised
Judge Tiago Montenegro, who is currently on trial due to his alleged involvement in the 2021 Trovão elections scandal, which he was a supporter of getting rid of the Patron League. A former member of the Paretia High Court, he is seen as a fighter of corruption and human rights, his history is not that.

Montenegro was a close ally and the appointee of Pires during the 1990s
The pro-EC cabal's portrayal of Judge Montenegro is unusual lately, Montenegro, who was implicated in the actions by the Trovão High Court and Elections Comissions in being part of the plot to get the Patron League off the ballot in their jurisdiction to weaken their chance of victory, is now being promoted as a human rights advocate and one of Paretia's greatest High Court Judges in recent history.

He is nothing of the sort, his history has been a case of bias towards the Social Democrats, despite his position and claims to be politically neutral as a judge. Of course any Judge can have a bias, no person can be act perfectly indifferent on any issue, even if it calls for neutrality. But Montenegro's case is much more corrupt than most.

Montenegro grew up in Trovão, and was a prosecutor there in the 1980s, he would become well known for his role in prosecuting drug traffickers, his largest bust against Luiz Barcelos in 1987. He became a supporter of the Social Democrats in the 1987 election, he spoke at a rally for the SD in Trovão during then.

In 1988 he ran and was elected to be Judge of the Trovão jurisdiction. During this period he would gain popularity and he would support the candidacy of Julío Pires in the 1990 elections. After the Social Democrats' victory in the election he became a member of the National Court, where he would decide on numerous cases against former leaders of political groups such as the former National Sotirian Force political party, which during their 1992 case had organized "hate-crimes" in the 1970s. Some had called him a "war dog" of the Pires government, and in multiple cases ruled in favor of the Social Democrats on cases against their labour regulation laws and a case against the SD giving extra money to Civil Guard members during election season.

In 1995 he was appointed by Pires to the High Court of Paretia, and would serve as the President of the High Court for two years in 1996 and 1997. In 1997 he returned to the National Court, again he gained more fame in sending warrants and prosecuting former members of the police of the Etrurian military dictatorship in crimes against Paretian journalists in the 1980s. He gained quite a following and returned to the High Court of Paretia, in numerous cases he sided with the Social Democrat government. But his controversies go further than just his politicization of the justice system, it later also becomes clear he was also more personally compromised.
Image
Montenegro's relationship with pupil Marisa Guerra put his position in peril
During the 2000's he had numerous apprentices who learned law under him, including Marisa Guerra, a current member of the High Court of Paretia. In 2009 Montenegro was able to put Guerra in a position of High Court Judge for the city of Felipeio. Suspicions from the High Court itself over his alleged relation with Guerra put into question her rise to prominance in the Paretian justice system, including one of an affair, however nothing would be done under the SD government of Premier Pascoal.

In 2011 he would resign from his position due to "serving enough time as Judge on this Court, I wish to return back to represent smaller cases in my home of Trovão, I also have personal reasons, including my family, which I will not discuss here".

Some believe that his resignation coencided with Guerra's appointment by the SD Regional Premier of Luzela Carlos Correia to the High Court of Luzela in 2010. Correia, too was a close ally of Pires during their government and member of Montenegro's team in his prosecution cases in the late 1990s.

After his resignation the government of Premier Pascoal would end up appointing Guerra to the High Court of Paretia where she sits now. Even under the old UC-led coalition government of Vasco Gonçalves, little was done over the suspicions against Montenegro and Guerra. In 2018 a journalist revealed in a report that he overheard "sexual" conversation between Guerra and Montenegro back in 2008 after a judicial proceeding.

Of course his controversy would return in 2021 when he was implicated by a leaker as being a major part of a conspiracy to ban the Patron League from being on the ballot in the election. Of course, many so called supporters of justice and the rule of law will back him as long as it goes against the people and the Patron League.

Union of Etrurian Humanists shut down under the Religious Liberty Law
Country's only NGO dedicated to secularism is shuttered by the Culture Ministry.

Comes as State Council passes the Foreign Entity law.

The Union of Etrurian Humanists, the country’s sole NGO for atheists and agnostics has been shut down by the Culture and National Identity Ministry under the Religious Liberty Law. The government claimed the body had “consistently engaged in discriminatory actions that infringe upon the religious liberties and rights of citizens.”

A Spokesman for the Federal Ministry for Culture and National Identity announced the shutting down of the UEH at a press conference this morning. The spokesman said, “after considerable deliberation, the Federal Minister has authorised the shuttering of the Union of Etrurian Humanists under the provisions of the Religious Liberty Law. The Union of Etrurian Humanists has consistently and fervently waged a campaign against Catholicism, its role in our society and the good and positive influence it has over law making and governance.

“The history of this group is one of discrimination against Catholics, Sotirians at large and even our cherished religious minorities, especially the Atudite community. This country is Sotirian yet inclusive, this government will not tolerate discrimination of citizens on religious grounds” he said further.

The group which is the spiritual successor of the League for Etrurian Humanism, itself established in 1889, had long been a champion for the rights of atheist and agnostics. The group also championed and lobbied for the removal of special privileges afforded to the Catholic Church including tax exemptions, grants and the informal role priests and bishops play within government. The history between the UEH and Tribune government was fraught and tense from the moment the party entered government in 2016. In 2021, the government announced that it would be removing atheism from the census as a religious identity, prompting further clashes between it and the UEH.

The UEH took the government to court in 2019, after receiving three successive audit requests from the National Auditing Office as well as a formal investigation into its financing, which several legal figures claimed was “orchestrated and vindictive.”

The irreligious of Etruria, 2.1 million as of the 2014 census, have long been targeted by the Tribunes’ rhetoric. Numerous backbenchers and even some ministers, in 2018 six Tribune senators co-wrote a small essay that questioned the “validity of non-belief beyond a juvenile desire to be different or to rebel against the reality of Etrurian life.”

The UEH released a statement shortly after the announcement saying, “our organisation since its creation in 1948 has been dedicated to a pluralistic, open and tolerant society. We have sought to end the closeness between state and church in accordance to the constitution, as well as give voice to those who do not hold religious beliefs in a country where it has since become a badge of loyalty to the country – once again. We are saddened by the authoritarianism of this government, which we believe often wears religion as a mask to hide its intentions.

“While our organisation may no longer be legally permitted to continue, the cause of an open Etruria does.”

The ban has raised further concerns over the survival of Etrurian civil society, which faces an "existential threat" according to left-wing groups, following the passing of the “Foreign Entity and Influence Law.” The law will establish a database for NGOs and civil society groups that engage in “political activity” and receive money or are organised from foreign countries. These groups will be required to report to the Justice Ministry and subject themselves to monthly audits and display on all publications their status as a “foreign entity.”

The SD has described the move as a “further assault upon Etrurian civil society and our democracy. This is once again another sign as to why this government must be removed at the next federal election.”

Union Forces and PNLAY advance on Pumtere
State President lauds Union's technical advisors during visit to Choch

Zorasani troops preparing for battle west of Pumtere.
Union Forces together with Kaabura units of the PNLAY had made rapid gains toward Pumtere, a key city on the road to Lehir. Backed by aircraft and drones, APRF terrorist cells have suffered catastrophic losses. The advances come as the PNLAY makes its own gains against terrorists and the ZIRAF struck targets across the east of the country.

Major gains on the north shore of the Gonda

In the north of Yemet, Union Forces together with Kaabura PNLAY units have made rapid gains along the M5 highway toward Pumtere. These gains follow several months of stalemate brought about by heavy seasonal rains. UF and PNLAY forces captured the towns of Nankizila and Abumtere with relative ease, though terrorist ARPF forces made repeated attempts to retake them. These assaults were repulsed with heavy losses along the terror cells.

A spokesman for the UF in Yemet, Major Hamid al-Aswani told reporters at a press conference, “Union Forces and the PNLAY continue to make major gains in the north and along the Gonda River.

“The northern front sees UF led PNLAY units approach Pumtere with great speed. Efforts are now underway to establish a cordon around the city. The Air Force in conjunction with land forces are conducting fire missions on key targets inside Pumtere.

“We cannot speak to the timeframe but it is our expectation that Pumtere will fall. A victory here will open the road to western Lehir. The ARPF terror movement will be shattered” he said.

“Government forces are also making good gains along the Gonda toward Lehir. The capture of which would do good work in stabilising the economy and denying the enemy the ability to receive supply from outside elements” he said further.

The capture of Pumtere and Lehir would split Yemet in two, dividing the various terrorist movements in two regions, north and south of the Gonda River. The capture of Lehir would also provide much needed economic assistance and stability, owing to the city being Yemet’s principal cargo handling facility.

Union Forces when their mission began last year urged for the PNLAY to focus on Lehir. The city has been subject to numerous air and missile strikes by Union Forces. Last night, Lehir’s airport and former air base were struck by Union Forces.

The spokesman said, “since the beginning of our military mission here, air forces have conducted over 288 sorties against terrorist targets. On Lehir alone, 45 sorties have been conducted. Our aircraft and drones have struck command and control hubs, weapons depots and training facilities. The strikes against the airport and air base were done to degrade further terrorist infrastructure.”

The spokesman also confirmed that since the resumption of operations, 18 soldiers of the Union had been injured in combat, though none had been martyred.

“Eighteen sons of the Union have been wounded since the operation resumed. None have been martyred since the three martyred at Modola. This is a record we wish to preserve by the grace of God. We continue to inflict irreparable losses on the enemy” he said.
