Government to begin regional testing of new community credit system
February 13 2022
By: Vưu Kim Yến

The goal of the new society-oriented credit system is to improve social trust and cohesion in the country

Trinhieu, Nainan: Today the Central Council and Senate approved to begin trials for a social system to improve the trustworthiness of Nainan's citizens. It is called the Community Merit System (Hệ thống tín dụng khen thưởng xã hội), it proposes a national social credit system for all citizens and institutions of the country, it will give benefits to people or institutions with good track records and penalize those who do not, these will be determined using an online AI algorithm, and will give ratings to citizens and institutions in Nainan. The system was first introduced by party leaders back in 2015, and had undergone smaller tests and trials, and some changes were made along the way. State Director Lê Tranh Lộc has been the lead dealmaker between those who supported the system and those who were more wary, and a middleground was able to reached soon enough. Plans for completeing testing the AI in regional levels began last year and are set to begin today.

The system will have four different rating systems within it. The first one is the Commercial Rating System, it will give ratings of trustworthiness and quality to businesses in Nainan. The next one is the Social Rating System, this one will focus on individuals in Nainan, and will give out ratings of trustworthiness in order to promote merit amongst the populace, these will include one's daily activities and one's devotion to the community. After this is the Judicial Rating System, this is a rating for those with criminal history and gie trustworthiness scores to promote return to society when out of incarceration. The last rating system is the Government Rating System, this is an algorithm mean to be used to track the trustworthiness of public servants to make sure they are devoted to their community.

There is then a system for rewards and benefits, and penalties depending on the score a person or institution recieves. The benefits for exceptionally productive and generally trustworthy behavior can include financial aide boosts, discounts on bills, fast-tracking approval for government services, or tax breaks. For those who are generally untrustworthy or their behavior is considered unacceptable, there are different types of punishment for them, including tax hikes, travel restrictions, being put on a list of untrustworthy citizens for others to see, and reduced likelyhood for attaining government aide.

The Social Merit Credit System will include a website that lists social behavior and ways to earn a high social credit score. Some examples of good behavior includes donating money or blood to charity, aiding law enforcement, or volunteer work. Some examples of bad behavior can include traffic violations when driving vehicles, failing to arrive at scheduled events, cheating on exams, or poor care of relatives. Here also includes a list of those considered exceptionally trustworthy, and a list of those considered untrustworthy.

The first regional areas to begin testing the system include the cities of Trinhieu and Tài Lẽ. Provinces include the Ảnh Lửa Province, Hai Bờ Province, Thiên Nhiên Province, and Lên Rừng Province. Autonomous Provinces include the Là Thao Province and Nyaram Khet Province. The government says the testing period for these provinces range from 3 to 5 months before they decide on expanding the system to the national level.

NEWS |Proposed party election changes in Lavana, and what it means for the country .
Following the announcement of changes to the elections of the Lavanan Section of the Workers International, worries many.

General Secretary Khudu Narimanoa announcing the changes to the parties election.

Earlier this week, on the 3rd of December. Khudu Narimanoa, General Secretary of the Lavanan Section of the Workers International (LSWI) announced a change to how his organization elects its members in the coming March 2022 election. Although usually of little importance, Lavanas government structure and the direct influences such changes could mean for the country and the consequences it could have. Raise serious eyes at the proposed changes.

The LSWI is a storied organization, having been founded by Kachai Socialists in 1909. The LSWI sought to represent a future Kachai state, Lavana meaning between rivers in Kachai. The term refers to the homeland of the Kachai people between the Siadng river in the north and the Kalani river to the south. The LSWI was at various points in contention and direct opposition to the Dezevauni Section of the Workers International (DSWI), which desired the establishment of a Ziban state, Dezevau, which takes its name from the Ziban for “many lands”. Both organizations feuded with one another but ultimately reached a consensus in the 1950’s as Dezevau, now a strong Socialist state, was the best help to the LSWI, they could get. Zadavana Goube was sent as an emissary of goodwill by the DSWI, to ensure the LSWI focused on creating a socialist state between the rivers, not a Kachai socialist state. Goube however was a strong politician, and carved for himself a personal party, more akin to the Equalist regimes of Amathia, and Champania, Goube found himself at the top of the party, and he could not be touched. After leading the party to victory in the Lavanan Revolution, he established a strong state with the party at the center, and himself as its head.

Goube however was not immortal, nor was he flawless and after his attempts to “Lavanize” the Ukilens and Beyeks of the country, through peaceful means had little success, he moved heavy handed against these minorities. Such a policy made the Ukilens and Beyeks, including inside his own party rise in opposition, and they never really turned back. When Goube was shown the door in 1978, the damage was done. In 1992, a member of the old guard Keo Sitwat, undid the legacy of Goube, starting democratization, and starting a national reconciliation, and perhaps federalisation. Lavana survived the 1990’s that saw so many Socialist states collapse, or abandon socialism, not by refusing change, but by embracing it to an extent. Lavana was to have free and open elections, of course with candidates that are members of the LSWI. An open press of course validated by the LSWI. A country of free and private enterprise, of course where LSWI backed and owned enterprises tend to do better. Sitwat was a revolutionary but he himself understood the power of the party, Goube stated in 1966 that “Lavana was nothing without the section (of the workers international)”.

The LSWI can undermine the Democratically elected government at all its steps, all public members must be members of the party, members of the Supreme court are elected by the Premier and the General secretary, the Premier itself is elected by the democratically elected Lavanan Congress but ultimately approved by the General secretary. Sitwat however did not give the party supreme party as had been the case under Goube. The Premier elects 8 out of the 15 Supreme court members, is in command of the Armed Forces, elects their cabinet which run various ministries (and thus various government owned companies), and most importantly actually answer to the people. This dual system of government has survived by moderation on both sides, to ensure smooth operations, the party doesn’t interfere with the government too much, and the government doesn’t interfere too much with the party. In fact 90% of all members of the democratically elected National, Provincial, Municipal, and City-level Congresses are members of their respective party assemblies. The General Secretary is elected democratically to the National congress, as is Premier Laina Keomany a member of the National party assembly.

Laina Keomany, is the Premier of Lavana. At 67 she is the first woman to hold such a position, not surprising considering her pedigree. She is the daughter of Levao Keomany, a close ally of both Goube and latter Sitwat, and member of the inner circle. Unlike many of her peers, she spent much of her childhood in Lavana, most high ranking LSWI members had their children study in prestigious Dezevauni or Kirenian schools, Keomany studied in a regular classroom with regular children. Keomany represents a generation of LSWI members and their children who did not fight in the Revolution, but reaped its benefits. She spent many years in the Ministry of Justice making a name for herself, prosecuting members of the party who had been carefree either to the party or in hiding their tracks, for corruption. When the 90’s rolled around she was a popular member in the public's eye, however her allegiances were found elsewhere. The more liberal and democratic wing of the party collectively known as United People's Section, was her calling and she found herself at the center of the moderate wing of this party. Although the Section struggled to make gains inside the party, regular voters favored the section immensely, and they came to nominate all levels of democratic government. In 2012 Loe Vatthana, was appointed as Premier following his section's general victories in that year's election, Keomany was appointed as Vice-Premier. Loe was very similar to his predecessors, combating corruption that didn’t benefit him or the party, and generally keeping the trend of recent administrations, economic liberalization, and some forms of more civil rights. All of this was well until on February 11 2019, Vatthana dropped dead from a heart attack.

Keomany made her way to the office of the Premier, with little opposition. Her father had been deeply involved with the party, and the people which benefited from the status quo, yet Keomany supported testing the waters. Corruption charges began to befall on members of the LSWI, who the party wouldn’t throw a fit about, but wouldn’t be too excited to see them go. She began to increase foreign trade and greater opening up of the country, she negotiated a free trade agreement with Vinalia, a country whose former half had been socialist. Such a move allowed the entry of untaxed foreign goods, foreign goods and their smuggling had been a major business sector for the party, where before illegal Senrian goods were smuggled into the country through Zomia by the party, container ships loaded with Senrian goods could enter Lavana so long as they originated from Vinalia, imported by private companies. Keomany however was reminded of her position when on July 2020, 4 members of the National Congress had their party credentials removed, and thus their seat for “Crimes against the state”, among them Minister of Energy Ganbaatar Dazeda, who had floated the idea of “cleaning” PetroLav. The state's oil company and party stronghold where the party elite enjoy the monetary benefits of owning a share of the company. Keomany was bullied to the line, and she hasn’t strained too much from it. Last month, on the announcement of the budget for 2022, Keomany was publicly humiliated by herself, mentioning the great success of the party, and the General Secretary.

The General secretary is elected by the party's National Assembly, composed of 40% members elected by the rank and file of the party, currently some 13.6 million Lavanans or 15.7% of the population. The other 60% of the seats are elected 20% by the Premier, 20% by the General Secretary, and 20% by the Provincial assemblies below them. This method ensures some level of stability and moderation. However the General Secretary wants to change this numbers, removing the 20% from the Premier and turning it to 5%, along with giving the general secretary a 20% assigning of seats in all lower assemblies, which are currently elected 60% by members, and 20% by members from the assembly above it, and 20% by the one below it (City-level assemblies are the lowest and thus are 30% appointed by the level above it), this change would reduce the voting power of all party members and further centralize power in the general secretary. Ensuring little to no change. Narimanoa is seeking to alter the balance of power in the government and ensure that Keomany or any Premier or democratically elected member of government essentially interferes with that power. It also removes any safe guard the Premier has against the General secretary, as they could no longer influence the continued assembly confidence by the general secretary by using their 20% seat allocations for a vote of no confidence.

Keomany seems unmoved by the announcement, and instead spent much of the week in Maucha enjoying Lavanas victory over Champania in the Feminine Coupe du monde, arriving in Lavana this past December 6th, after an unplanned 3 day visit to Dezevau. Keomany has few options to contest this clear coup of power, other than the aid of Dezevau. The Dezevaunis have long supported her, and Keomany has stated that Lavana should adopt a similar system to Dezevau. Her unplanned visits on the 4th, and 5th certainly show a desire to speak with the Dezevauni government, especially following last month's violent coup in South Kabu. Keomany’s eagerness to aid the coup, and the possibility of Dezevau behind support for the coup, certainly has worried Narimanoa who has gone ahead with the changes. The future remains to be seen for Lavana and its 86 million people, the spotlight now shines on Laina Keomany and her actions.

Microfinance Reform Act passes first reading in Parliament

PIETERSBURG, KANAÄN - A bill that promises to radically reshape Nuvania's microfinance sector has gained traction with the Microfinance Reform Act passing its first reading in the House of Assembly this afternoon.

Microfinance is the category of financial services for individuals and small businesses who lack access to conventional banking services. In Nuvania, microfinance is normally provided to individuals and businesses that operate between the white market and black market, where products and services are often legitimate but are not able to be regulated or managed through official channels.

Under the existing framework, developed during the Maritz government following the Great Recession, microfinance services are provided through a series of charities and other for-profit non-government organisations with the intent of preventing more people from turning to illicit sources of income and business, particularly in Nuvania's most impoverished rural and urban areas. Charities and other NGO's would provide small loans for people to pay off with repayments adjusted for a set amount of income, interest rates set at 0.5%. Under the Marten government, interest rates were deregulated and allowed those providing for-profit microfinance services to charge their own interest rates. The process to become an accredited microfinance provider was also streamlined, allowing for payday lenders to issue small loans to individuals and businesses under the revised framework.

The bill, which was passed unanimously with 381 votes to none, would seek to reform this sector through the creation of the Small Loans Commission, a government entity that would collate existing funds and liquidity from the existing network of charities into one centralised provider of small loans and other financial services. In addition, the bill would also abolish interest rates on microfinance

Nigel Hancock, the Minister of Finance and the Minister Responsible for the Microfinance Reform Act, said that previous governments had abdicated their responsibility for Nuvania's most impoverished communities, and that the proposed bill would address "significant shortcomings" in the way microfinance was regulated and managed in Nuvania.
"At the moment the system is designed to push people into the arms of gangs and other organised criminal enterprises because it has failed in it's goal of preventing people from turning to crime in order to survive," he said during a speech in the House of Assembly in support of the bill. "How can we continue to allow people who have almost nothing to become so indebted that they're unable to even buy food or clothes? How did we think that this was ever an acceptable state of affairs?"

Hancock highlighted the average microfinance interest rate of 5.32% as an example of the kind of "irresponsible government policy" that has resulted in millions of Nuvanians becoming burdened with unpayable debt, saying that the policy to deregulate interest rates in the microfinance industry was "one of the worst decisions the Marten government ever made."
"When you preside over almost a decade of continual economic stagnation, there's absolutely no justification for deciding to create more financial pressures for our most vulnerable communities," he said. "But this is exactly what that government did and as a result, millions of our most impoverished people are now unable to afford basic necessities because of the debt they are in."

In addition to the centralisation of microfinance and the ban on interest for loans issued by existing and future providers, the Small Loans Commission would also have a centralised fund taken from the general pool of taxpayer money to provide additional loans and services to those who wish to access them. The intent of the fund, according to Hancock, would be that existing for-profit providers would no longer need to turn a profit and instead become non-profit organisations existing for the benefit of Nuvania's poorest.
"The existence of profit means that the concerns for providers are, first and foremost, to deliver a profit for shareholders," he said. "This means that affordable services and being of genuine assistance to our most impoverished communities are secondary concerns. This fund will allow providers to put aside the need for profits to deliver more accessible financial services to these communities."

Despite voting in favour of the bill, some criticism came from the NVP, particularly Shadow Minister of Finance Alwyn Dreyer, who said that the bill as it stood was "legislation nationalisation of the microfinance sector" and "create an uncompetitive monopoly" on financial services provided in the sector.
"While we agree, in principle, that the sector needs reform," he said. "It is becoming increasingly apparent that the government intends on overregulating a sector that has done well to provide the level of service that it has and the competitiveness, through which services have been delivered to those that would have otherwise not received them." When challenged by the Finance Minister on the NVP's previous microfinance policies, Dreyer did not defend the Marten government's decisions but instead suggested that the bill could be used to "reign in" providers rather than assume control over them entirely.
"We can agree that more regulation is necessary, but we do not agree on the assumption of complete control over the sector."

NVP party whip Norman Banister also spoke in favour of the bill, and broadly outlined the rationale for the NVP's support of the bill in it's first reading.
"Despite our concerns with some of the content within it, we believe the Microfinance Reform Act is a necessary step in these troubling times," he said. "It is our intent to see this bill through to the Financial Select Committee so we can make our necessary proposals there."

The Microfinance Reform Act will now move into the Financial Select Committee where it will be open to public submissions from March 1, and will be in committee for two weeks before being put before the House of Assembly again for its second reading.

Alslandic Senate to vote on Premier's future following resignation

Image
Ottila Möller during last year's SAE conference in Azmara announced her resignation today and intends to ask the country's Parliament to decide on the future of her government

Yndyk, Alsland - Alsland's incumbent centre-left Premier has announced she will resign as Premier after weeks of infighting in her government over the resignation of former EC President Bonne Zijlstra as Foreign Minister in January.

Möller told media that she will let the country's legislature, the Folkssenaat decide if she will remain as Premier and that she intends to form another government to prevent potential early elections. She will remain as Premier until the Folkssenaat votes on who will succeed her or if she will remain as Premier.

This follows infighting between moderate liberals and socialists within the governing Progressive Alliance over plans to modernise the bloc and adopt a more centrist ideology. The plans have been strongly opposed by the Alliance's Socialist factions and prompted former EC President Bonne Zijlstra to resign dramatically earlier in January.

The move by Ottila Möller is the latest political crisis to hit the country and has the potential to cause an early legislative election which would see the country's 235 seat Folkssenaat split evenly between the centre-left Progressives, the centrist Together bloc and the centre-right National Bloc if polls are to be believed. A majority of the Folkssenaat needs to vote against Ottila Möller forming a new government when the issue comes up in a vote on Tuesday which many believe to be unlikely as holding an early election is rare in the country and has historically been severely punished by the Alslandic electorate.

Rumours of a potential leadership battle between Möller and socialists were not helped when three Senators from her bloc announced they would join the new left-wing party led by the country's former Premier. According to a member of the Alliance's ruling committee, a leadership election was likely to be held if no action was taken in the coming weeks. By resigning they believe Möller has united the Alliance in supporting her as Premier rather than allowing either an early election of the opposition to take power in the country less than two years after the centre-left was swept to victory in the first time in over a decade.

The 235 Senators in the country are now expected to vote on whether Möller will remain Premier until 2023 or if early elections will be held.

"This was not my preferred choice" Möller told reporters after resigning. "But I believe it was the necessary choice to ask the Folkssenaat to consider this government's legitimacy and if they want me to remain as Premier."

The Folkssenaat is likely to back Möller's attempt to remain as Premier according to the editor of Alsland's largest newspaper 'Hjoed. Jetze Kok believes that the centrist Together for the Republic bloc, despite leading in recent polls does not want to see an early election and the leadership of the opposition National Bloc which is struggling to keep support will not want to risk further instability. The leadership of smaller parties such as the right-wing populists and the Left Party also do not want to risk dissolving Parliament and forcing the country to the polls in what could be a decisive year for Alsland as it elects it's collective Presidency in October and is set to vote for the Euclean President in the same month.

LIBERTY TAPS MODERATE Nic GILLE FOR LEADERSHIP, ENDING MONTHS OF UNCERTAINTY

Image
Áine Nic Gille, one of the Liberty Party's top legislators, wants to give the party new direction.

By RÓNÁN Ó DUBHGHAILL

14 February 2022 at 9:22 a.m. EST

After months without an official party leader, the Liberty Party has named Áine Nic Gille, a deputy speaker of the Tionól, to lead them as the party gears up for the upcoming general election.

Nic Gille, 37, formally succeeds Pádraig Mac Piarais as party leader. Mac Piarais resigned in August after intense pressure from party rank and file, including figures like Nic Gille. The party has until now been led by Seárlas Bácaeir on an acting basis, who called this weekend’s party conference to pick a new leader.

As a member of the party’s moderate wing who is popular with the party’s legislative group, Nic Gille represents a shift away from the conservative direction of the Liberty Party that has persisted for the past few years.

Since 2019, she has served as the Second Leas-Cheann Comhairle, a leading role in the Tionól that has allowed her to establish herself as a consensus builder. Nic Gille is expected to shift the party away from the conservative right and back towards the liberal center, back towards old positions that allowed the party to dominate Caldish politics for over a decade.

This shift was a central theme of her candidacy for Liberty’s top job.

“It is time for our party to move away from the mistakes of the past and re-establish ourselves as a party that stands for its values. To me, these values are equal opportunity, the rule of law, and fiscal responsibility. These have been lacking the past few years, and voters are looking for direction” Nic Gille told a news conference after her victory.

The party’s moderate wing, which attended the conference with significant numbers, rallied behind Nic Gille early on. Many names, including former Spálgleann Chief Mayor Sadhbh Akhtar, who was speculated to launch a bid for the top job, endorsed the Second Leas-Cheann Comhairle in the run up to the conference. Many of the party’s sitting TCs put their support behind Nic GIlle as well.

After the second ballot, when it became a two-way race between Nic Gille and conservative Íarla Ó Corráin, support for her increased further. Damháin Mac Anndaidh, a former finance minister who stood for party leader, endorsed Nic Gille. Notable was a lack of endorsement from Roibeard Ó Catháin, who was out of the contest after the first ballot.

Nic Gilles' victory over Ó Corráin, a former minister for Prion Casarnach and Amhlaoibh na Dùnphris, solidified the moderate wing’s takeover. The last stand of Liberty’s conservtive wing was not enough, as the party has bled the conservative vote to the National Party for some time.

Mac Piarais’ failure to blunt the rise of the conservative National Party put Liberty in a tough spot. Recognizing this, Nic Gilles seems keen on abandoning the conservative vote and focusing on winning over the support of moderate middle class voters.

She said that fighting additional tax increases and major spending increases would be a top priority. Since 2019, the ruling Social Democratic Party has ended the popular flat rate for the income tax.

“It is important to me as the leader of the Liberty Party that we take a stand on this issue. That we stand up to the socialist tax and spend agenda. When it comes to the issue of fiscal responsibility, I will always speak out when necessary to advocate for what is in the best interests of the people of this country” she said.

The party’s recent turmoil has raised concerns about its prospects for the 12 June election. Nic Gille is set to rebuild the party. Sources close to her indicate that there will be major changes made with the party’s internal structure, building on the recent changing of the party’s procedures to elect its leader.

Before electing Nic Gille, the party voted to change its process for picking a leader. It took power away from party delegates, all former and current elected officials, and placed it in the hands of incumbents. The move was criticized by conservatives, but the short notice given for the party conference on a holiday weekend prevented high turnout among the party’s conservative wing.

MADINAT - Prime Minister Mufeed al-Nazar has come under fire after making several comments about the former President Fattah al-Salameh, ranging from criticism to outright insults to what many regard as Nise’s national hero. These comments come at the onset of the campaign season for the Parliamentary Elections and are looking to drastically change al-Nazar and the Party of Nise’s chances for securing another parliamentary majority this year.

The former President al-Salameh was Nise’s longest serving and the Republic’s first President. He navigated the post Sultanate era and defended Nise against Sohar during the Anniseran War and would continue to serve Nise for another decade after the war. His foreign policy has come under fire recently for its very jingoistic matter of combating Equalism throughout Coius and Bahia and for strengthening ties with Zorasan. However he still is extremely popular among many rural communities and those residing in the Urí Margidda. Domestically he remains popular throughout the nation having pursued an aggressive energy policy and maintaining tight control over the nation which some say bordered on dictatorial till he stepped down in 1977 before passing away a few years later. This would be the first time a sitting member of Parliament and the first Prime Minister to ever have publicly criticized him.

The statements made by al-Nazar include, “al-Salameh didn’t finish what he should have,” referencing when Nise was pushing into Sohar and al-Salameh along with our Euclean Allie’s accepted peace overtures with Sohar. “He kept the nation in the dark,” regarding the tight control on media and the public as a whole fearing an Equalist uprising in Nise however unlikely it was. Similar statements were also made, these being released by an anonymous source with the Cabinet of al-Nazar.

These statements have sparked an outcry among mean PN supporters and those across the nation as many have taken to the streets and social media to express their disgust at the statements made by al-Nazar and priests are continuing to grow especially in downtown Madinat as they flood the streets so do members of the City Police preparing for the worst.

Al-Nazar himself refused to comment along with other members of his government as they are currently holding a cabinet meeting to address everything transpiring regarding this new scandal.

The Opposition has taken full advantage of the blunder and have already begun calling on party members to protest and going as far as asking Al-Nazar to resign. Though many party leaders haven’t released any statements likely waiting on Al-Nazar to address the statements made several party members have expressed deep concern at the statements.

Ottila Möller re-elected as Premier after tense vote

  • Folkssenaat splits 95-95 on investiture vote.
  • Together for the Republic abstain from confidence vote.
  • National Bloc defend trying to call a snap election.
  • Möller calls for all groups to come together to provide stability for rest of term.

The Folkssenaat has voted in favour of re-electing Ottila Möller as Premier after a tense 3 day stand off with the opposition. All 95 Progressive Alliance Senators voted to re-elect the Premier whilst the National Bloc, Left Party, ASAY and Orange Party all voted against the formation of her new government. Together for the Republic abstained on the vote preventing a snap election.

The Senate ultimately backed Möller after 3 days of political uncertainty

Yndyk, Alsland - 118 Senators needed to vote against the government, only 95 did which allowed Möller to return as Premier. She has said she will continue her incumbent minority government until the next legislative election.

The vote is a major victory for the Premier who resigned on Sunday to prove that she had support within the chamber to pass the Alliance's domestic agenda and to quell left-wing anger within the Alliance.

"It is a great honour to have been re-elected by the Folkssenaat,” Möller told reporters as she left the chamber after the vote. “We must continue our work to move Alsland forward and build a stronger, safer and more equal country."

Her reappointment as Premier has prevented the immediate threat of an early Snap election which had been officially endorsed by the opposition National Bloc on Sunday evening. It gives the government breathing room to focus on it's legislative efforts in the runup to this year's Presidential elections.

It's also likely that the resignation gambit has fended off a potential leadership election within the Progressive Alliance from leftists angry at new plans to rethink the Alliance's core ideology. Her Senators have rallied around her, Bonne Zijlstra openly endorsed her Premiership within the Folkssenaat before the vote saying he will consistently support her as Premier and leader of the Progressive Alliance.

The National Bloc is already facing severe backlash for wanting an early election. The Bloc's leader, Konrad Dünhaupt was forced to defend his position whilst speaking to reporters. "We are taking action in the Senate against a government that has little support left," He told a reporter. Later on after the vote he said the Bloc would continue to push for an early election but admitted there was not enough support in the Folkssenaat to hold an early election.

The question of how voters will react to the Bloc's attempt at forcing an early election is yet to be seen although in the past snap elections have resulted in the party or bloc voters feel is responsible for the election to be punished significantly. The right-wing Orange Party is trying to capitalise off this already by releasing a series of statements accusing the National Bloc of causing instability and trying to play political games instead of acting in the legislature.

Caoimhín Ó Dubhthaigh, journalist and television personality, announces formation of political party
Updated / Friday, Feb 18 2022 16:41
Politics by Loughlin Mac Aodhagáin

Journalist Caoimhín Ó Dubhthaigh has announced his intent to register a new political party to contest the,
June election hoping to carve out spot for his brand of politics.
SPÁLGLEANN – Caoimhín Ó Dubhthaigh, a well-known journalist and television personality, announced this morning that he will register a new political party in the run up to June's general election. The new party, to be known as the Caoimhín Ó Dubhthaigh Party, has filed paperwork with the Caldish Electoral Board in order to begin gathering signatures to appear on June's ballot.

Ó Dubhthaigh held a launch event with supporters this morning where he made the announcement.

"This represents a new direction for Caldish politics. Our leading parties have failed us and it is time for the hardworking people of this country to band together and demand better. That is what my party will represent" he said.

The former broadcaster who is now a columnist with An Laethúil, one of the nation's leading tabloids, has been a vocal critical of the governing Social Democratic Party and the opposition Liberty Party. He has accused both parties of serving special interests and leaving the middle and working classes to fend for themselves. Of particular concern for Ó Dubhthaigh has been government corruption, for which he has been critical of both parties.

"The fat-cats who govern our country are self-serving and beholden to radical, woke interest groups. Mac Suibhne says he stands up for working people, yet he is actively fighting against them by raising taxes and killing jobs. The Liberty Party is even more hopeless, they are a shell of a party that will always live in the shadows of the scandal and corruption of Ó Raghallaigh and Casarnach".

Ó Dubhthaigh states that his new party will be a big-tent movement that crosses the ideological spectrum. Its claimed purpose will be to fight tax increases, oppose immigration, target government spending to support Caldish citizens, protect jobs, and push for transparent governance and anti-corruption measures.

The party is being established on the heels of the Liberty Party's conference where it chose its new leader, Áine Nic Gille. Nic Gille, one of Liberty's most senior lawmakers, represents a more moderate approach to politics than her recent predecessors. Ó Dubhthaigh is looking to capitalize off of this while also criticizing Liberty for past scandals. He has been similarly critical of the PSD, for whom the labour minister has also caused scandal.

25,000 signatures from Caldish voters must be collected before 12 May in order for the party to be registered and granted ballot access for the June general election. Ó Dubhthaigh said he is in the process of hiring party operatives and indicated that signatures will be collected in the coming weeks.

A POLITICAL NEWCOMER

While Caoimhín Ó Dubhthaigh's name has long been a fixture of Caldish politics, he was always on the outside. The journalist turned politician has been a fixture in Caldish media for over two decades. He first emerged nationally after the scandal surrounding Elton II following his dismissal of Niamh Nic Uilliam as taoiseach. He then became a presenter for GBF News, headling several programs until his departure in 2016.

Ó Dubhthaigh found conflict with his former employer over his vocal opposition to immigration. This led him to noteworthy conflicts with guests on his programs, drawing negative attention from viewers and company executives. He spent two years outside of media, working for a series of political think tanks and interest groups. He eventually returned to journalism in mid 2018 when he was brought on as a guest columnist by An Laethúil. Ó Dubhthaigh was made a permeant columnist in 2022 and has become one of the tabloid's most printed commentators.

While An Laethúi facilitated his return to media, it took him longer to re-establish his presence as a political commentator. Throughout 2021, he began to receive invites to various news and politics programs across the Caldish networks.

Ó Dubhthaigh remains a newcomer to the actual politics scene and is looking to break out big in June. Drops in support for the governing PSD and historic lows for the Liberty Party potentially create an opening for him. His messaging has appeal to supporters for both parties, tapping into populist sentiments that have gone untouched since the collapse of the Free Market Party in 2018.

While he is a major name in Caldish political media, Ó Dubhthaigh is not without his enemies. As a political novice, he may find it difficult to establish himself, hire seasoned party operatives or recruit talented candidates to stand in the June election. He also faces a time crunch, with less than four months until election day.

However, Ó Dubhthaigh also has some potential allies and sources of more established political support. After the dissolution of the populist, anti-immigrant PMSA, many of its former party operatives have since sat on the sidelines. Ó Dubhthaigh has also signaled he is interested in collaborating with smaller, like-minded parties. These already established parties could provide Ó Dubhthaigh with the political logistics he needs, while they benefit from his name and national profile. It is to be seen if this approach will work in his favor, as established parties may be skeptical that Ó Dubhthaigh will want to call the shots.

His entry into party politics has potential to shift the direction of the campaign. Ó Dubhthaigh is looking to have a big impact this election cycle and this is something other parties will be mindful of.

Anti-government protests: 96 arrested and 16 injured as government mulls deploying Auxiliary Defence Force
The end of the February Recess tomorrow will likely mark significant developments
NOTIZIE by Aurelia Bossi
22 February, 2022

Image
Protests continue unabated for close to a month.

The month’s long anti-government protests erupted into violence today in Solaria, San Alessandro and Faulia. Frustration over the Religious Liberty Law and the government’s racist conspiracy theories against Satrians boiled over with projectiles thrown at police and violent scuffles. The violence has prompted open threats by the government to deploy the Auxiliaria.

Violence erupted between police and protesters in several cities throughout today as anger and frustration over the government boiled over. Almost 100 were arrested after sporadic clashes in Solaria, San Alessandro and Faulia, though protests in Accadia, Piavenna, Stazzona, Traffiume, Carcofo and Auronzo remained peaceful.

In Solaria, a heavier police presence compared to previous weeks was not received well by protesters with many in areas in direct contact with officers jeering and shouting them down. At some point this growing tension erupted into the throwing of bottles, stones and other projectiles, while police responded with charges to detain protesters. Footage from Etruria’s largest city revealed scuffles between groups of protesters and police. The National Police Service reported that 10 officers were injured in Solaria, though only lightly. Four protesters were also injured, with one requiring medical treatment after she fell from scaffolding on the Piazza della Singoria.

Smaller clashes erupted in Faulia and San Alessandro, where the crowds have been consistently and markedly larger than elsewhere in the country. It is not known what sparked physical clashes between protesters and police.

The NPS released a statement saying, “over the course of today, our officers unfortunately engaged with violent agitators who sought to provoke wider confrontations. We limited our actions to detaining those who engaged directly with our officers. We arrested 96 individuals in multiple locations.”

The NPS estimated that just over 20,000 people protested in Solaria, though organisers claim up to 80,000 were present. The National Police did however, corroborate organisers who claimed there were 150,000 in Faulia and 100,000 in San Alessandro.

The immense diversity of the crowds is what is most noticeable. Among the tens of thousands who have protested since the start of the month include women’s rights groups (though many have since withdrawn following the government lifted the ban on 113 NGOs), members of LGBT+ community, socialists, Etrurian-Miruvians, Etrurian-Piraeans, Satrians and ordinary Etrurians who simply oppose the racism and conspiracy theories.

For over a month, tens of thousands of Etrurians have taken to the streets demanding the repealing of the Religious Liberty Law, which markedly undermines anti-discrimination rights and was followed by the shuttering of 113 women’s rights groups tied to the pro-choice movement, though this ban was lifted entirely, it did little to dampen the fury among many Etrurians at the blatant authoritarianism of the Tribune government.

In the midst of protests, the Tribune government began to circulate fears of the Etrurian Subsection of the Satrian Section of the Worker’s International, an Arthasthani-led organisation that focuses on community outreach among Etruria’s 1.8 million Satrians. The Subsection was revealed to have requested permission to join the protest movements in defence of women’s rights. The Tribune government began pumping out conspiracy theories that the Subsection was plotting the overthrow of the government, was linked to organised crime, money laundering and even operated underground sex rings exploiting young Etrurian women and girls. This culminated in several far-right protests and the death of Shreya Patil, when she burnt to death in fire bombing of her restaurant. This only served to expand the coalition on the streets who now demand the resignation of the government.

Since early February the situation has remained tense but peaceful, with expansive protests gripping Faulia, San Alessandro, Solaria, Tyrrenhus, Accadia, Piavenna, Carcoforo, Stazzona and Traffiume. It has been the longest period of sustained protest since the pro-democracy protests of 1979-1981 that forced the negotiated end of the military dictatorship.

However, the prolonged nature of the protests and the disruption they’re causing in Etruria’s largest cities is appearing to wearing thin the government’s patience, which has seemed content with allowing the protests to “burn out.” According to sources in the government, the aim was to “let the mobs scream and shot, realise we will not budge and then go home.” As this does not appear to be likely anytime soon, pressure is mounting within cabinet to authorise the deployment of the Auxiliary Defence Force to assist the police in clearing the Piazzi.

Many citizens in the major cities have begun to complain of the disruption to both their commutes and occupations.

A number of Tribunes have begun to urge the government to take direct action, as well as the growing chorus of anger that the Subsection still has not be shuttered. The government for its part has been spared more pressure by the February Recess of the Senate.

Two weeks ago, the interior ministry placed 10,000 Auxiliaria on “stand-by notice” and documents were drawn up to activate the controversial Protest and Policing Law, which grants the National Police significant powers to crackdown on protests.

Senior Tribunes have been notably absent from the public limelight throughout the February Recess. President Carcaterra and his family spent the two-week period at the Casa della Contemplazione in Torrazza, while Deputy President Vittoria Vasari was photographed holidaying in Paretia.

However, with the return of senators tomorrow it is likely the ongoing protests will become a hot issue.

This is an ongoing situation and we will provide details as they develop.

OPINION: WHY WE MUST DEFEND FREEDOM OF SPEECH EVERYWHERE
Freedom of speech and expression, even if it is hateful, is the cornerstone of Euclean values, and it must be upheld

Foreign Minister Zygfryd Wojtkiewicz (file photo)

As the Foreign Minister of the Miersan Sotirian Republic, I have the duty to speak up and stand up for the Miersan nation. Every day, thousands of people work hard across the world to ensure that the Miersan Sotirian Republic can uphold its image as a defender of common Euclean values. Of course, every now and then, I do receive a question as to what are these common Euclean values that I speak of? To this question, I will answer: not in my capacity as Minister of Foreign Affairs, but as a private citizen of the Miersan Sotirian Republic.

I would argue that a key common value that all Eucleans cherish is our Sotirianity. Regardless of whether or not you are Amendist, Catholic, or Episemialist, if you live in Euclea, you are almost certainly part of a Sotirian nation. While it is shameful that many countries, particularly in northeastern Euclea, have been turning away from their Sotirian heritage in favour of the dangerous ideology of "multiculturalism" as a way to implement socialist policies, and while I deplore the fact that many in northeastern Euclea seek to turn away from our Sotirian past, this is not the most important value.

Nor, as some people have argued, our shared appreciation for Piraean philosophy, poetry, and theatre: while it is true that Piraea did invent these things, and while it is true that with a handful of exceptions in southern Coius, the rest of the world would only learn to appreciate them when Eucleans spread these values across the planet. Indeed, it was not the Piraeans who spread them across this continent, but rather, the Solarian Empire.

I would argue that the greatest value that we in Euclea all cherish the most, is the right to express ourselves, and the right to speak without fear of harassment by the authorities. This virtue, though many assume was developed by the Piraeans as part of their democratic process, was never the case: there was a process of ostracism which forced those who criticised the city-state to leave the city for ten years. It was the Solarians who developed these values: it was the Solarians who removed ostracism and allowed people to speak freely, without fear that they will be punished for what they said.

Despite tyrants in both Solaria itself and outside it who sought to strangle the right of self-expression in its crib, this value spread across the Euclean continent. Even as Solaria split between Verlois and Arciluco, the right to express oneself would become the foundational cornerstone of all Euclean civilisations, from the Weranics and Tenics in the far east, to the Marolevs and Zalyks in the far west, as merchants and missionaries spread this principle across the continent, to the point that one would think it impossible to simply rid yourself of these values.

Except this is what happening in the Euclean Community. As laws are put into place to combat "hate speech" across the Euclean Community, the time-honoured right to express yourself freely is under threat. Patriotic organisations, who like the governing Naprzód in Miersa, the governing Patriots' Front in Soravia, and the governing Tribune Movement in Etruria, only seek to preserve the common and traditional values that underlie the foundations of Euclea as we all knew it, are facing increasing persecution by countless governments throughout the Euclean Community and beyond. And this includes Piraea.

In Piraea, the People's Party helped the Piraean government approve plans to create a commission that may crack down on patriotic organisations in Piraea, in a stunning over-reaction to the murder of Shreya Patil, an Arthasthani immigrant, when a bunch of hooligans killed her during an otherwise peaceful protest organised by La Citadella. This decision to investigate patriotic organisations in Piraea uses several isolated incidents involving the assaults of several members of left-wing parties and homeless people is a grave threat to the principles of freedom of speech and the freedom of expression, not just in Piraea, but across Euclea.

By cracking down on the ability of patriotic organisations to express themselves freely, we risk not only damaging a key pillar of Euclean civilisation, but also risk destroying democracy itself. Even if patriotic organisations may express opinions that some consider "hateful," it is the duty of every freedom-loving country to uphold, protect, and permanently preserve the right to speak and express ourselves.

And so long as I am alive, I will continue to advocate for the preservation of our Euclean values.

EXCLUSIVE - Premier had "secret meetings" with business group over 15 times since 2018
Confidential meetings with the Hosokawa group, who are employed in many government contracts, could point to huge conflicts of interest.
Image

Exclusive reports to Der Tägliche Beobachter have revealed that the premiers office has "failed to disclose" several meetings with top NKP donors who have gone on to receive lucrative contracts since 2018.

Between April 2018 to March 2021 premier Otto von Hösslin has reportedly met representatives from the Senrian conglomerate Hosokawa Corporation 17 times to discuss undisclosed matters. According to some of the leaks these meetings predominantly took place at the prestigious Dumont Hotel in Westbrücken and included not just the premier but his staff and an unarmed minister. Some of these meetings took place in the Hotels five-star Pearl Gate Restaurant where a meal can commonly cost €200.

The Hosokawa Corporation and its various subsidiaries including Iwasaki Telecommunications, Seido Medical Equipment and Sibauri Engineering Works has since 2019 received over 100 new contracts and jointly manages over 200 with other companies across federal government services ranging from healthcare provision to military hardware. Their Weranian office has stated they wish to provide "excellent services to the Weranian public and continue to support a close relationship with the federal government to support that goal".

The Hosokawa Corporation's construction subsidiaries have been noted to have donated to the NKP in the last federal election although they have donated to the Social Democratic Radical Party in the past.

Although the nature of these meetings is confidential they are not at this stage considered to be illegal - private meetings between ministers and businesses are according to legal expert Reiner Ehrenberg common. "The question that is being asked is if these meetings have led to Hosokawa to be favoured in government contracts over other firms and if so how far the premier is implicated in that" Ehrenberg stated.

"If it emerges the premier or ministers have after meeting with Hosokawa lobbied for their services to be prioritised above others then that would constitute a conflict of interest and would be at the very least a resigning matter, if not a criminal one."

So far the premiers office has declined to comment on the allegations. Last summer former Defence Minister Ulrich Furler was forced to resign after it emerged that he had been part of an insider trading scheme set up by arms company Volger GmbH which had bribed ministers to accept contracts worth €5.7 billion. Furler was named to have put pressure on Tsabaran premier Aslan Ocalan to accept Volger arms contracts in a Tsabaran-Weranian arms deal back in January 2021.

Political analyst Karolin Steinhäuser has stated that another conflict of interest scandal could result in the NKP acquiring a reputation of corruption. "Yet again members of the Weranian government seems to be participating in lobbying for contracts to be given to preferred companies. It makes the NKP and the government as a whole appear to be in the thrall of large corporations and allowing them unprecedented access into the halls of power. "

The premiers office has admitted meetings took place but has so far refused to divulge what they have entailed.

PROTESTS CONTINUE IN MADINAT

MADINAT - Today marks the third straight day of protests across Nise as the comments made by the current Prime Minister, Mufeed al-Nazar towards the former President Fattah al-Salameh lambasting him as a failure for not completely dismantling the state of Sohar and being overly aggressive with many domestic policies that, “put the nation in the dark.” These statements have sent shockwaves through the nation. al-Salameh is regarded as a national hero for not only saving Nise from destruction and winning the Anniserian War but also for fighting Equalists across Coius and Bahia with every means possible.

Protests have been nonstop since the comments and have been continually escalating with now protesters and the National Police Force having squared off in several instances with them only releasing that 20 people have been arrested while protesters have stated that it could be upto 100 arrested in recent clashes yesterday with at least 20 wounded. Al-Nazar couldn’t be reached for a comment on this and he has been extremely quiet since the statement was leaked anonymously. Someone who has rose to the forefront and been extremely vocal has been the leader of the largest opposition party, Faheem Amen, who has risen to the forefront following this major scandal along with his party, the National Solidarity Front.

He has already called on al-Nazar to resign early last year following his lack of commitment to early campaign promises most notably the expansion of oil fields in the Uri Margidda. He now is calling for him to step down after making these ridiculous statements.Amen has also gone to visit the protesters in Madinat and give words and supplies to them reportedly telling some that, “if al-Nazar doesn’t step down we will make him step down.” Increased tensions have been noted today as several more clashes have happened with police and now fears grow that al-Nazar may call in military police battalions to clear out the protesters.

These protests have had a dramatic effect on the election coming with reportedly support for the NSF soaring, and the Party of Nise at its lowest in the entirety of the existence of the Republic with NSF expected to win 177 seats up 95 seats from the last general election in 2018 and the Party of Nise expected to win 112 down 80 seats from the last general election. Other parties have also dropped with the NSF seeming to appeal to the whole of Nise reportedly even rumors that the military would sponsor the change of government peacefully.

With that said al-Nazar isn’t expected to step down till the end of the election and is likely expected to try to prolong his stay as long as possible in an attempt to secure enough power for himself and reportedly not get investigated for corruption securing immunity.

If you are involved in the protests please goto the link on the front page of the website there is links to contact a variety of defense lawyers and help funds to assist you with medical and legal needs.

EC President Alastrí Nic Ualtair, who is 71, has been hospitalized.

Kesselbourg City, Kesselbourg - The Euclean Community's most senior official has been hospitalized, according to a press release published this morning. President Alastrí Nic Ualtair ⁊ Ní Deoradh was admitted to Saint Elizabeth's Medical Centre in Kesselbourg City overnight following health complications.

The nature of her hospitalization has not yet been disclosed, but aides for Nic Ualtair indicate that she is in good spirits and stable condition.

In the statement issued this morning by the president's office, Nic Ualtair is said to have been hospitalized "out of an abundance of caution" and will remain at Saint Elizabeth's "to be monitored closely".

"Late last night, President Nic Ualtair was admitted to Saint Elizabeth's Medical Centre. This was done out of an abundance of caution for her well-being and health. After expericing health difficulties, the president was admitted so that she can supported by medical staff. She will remain in hospital in order to be monitored closely for a short period of time. However, in order to ensure the smooth operations of the Euclean Community she is temporarily stepping back. In her absence, Foreign and Global Affairs Commissioner and Vice President Vallette will take on the powers of the Euclean presidency in an acting capacity".

Nic Ualtair, who is seventy-one years old, has previously struggled with her health. However, since her tenure as EC President began in 2017 she has been in good health. Following the 2016 Caldish terror attacks, Nic Ualtair sufferred from post-traumatic stress disorder and stepped away from her job as Caldish premier earlier than anticipated in order to pursue treatment. After several months of intense treatment by professionals, she announced her candidacy for the Euclean Presidency and went on to win the election.

She is term limited and voters throughout the EC will name her successor in November, to take over in December of this year. Vivien Vallette, former president Jean Vallette's grandson, will take over for Nic Ualtair while she is in hospital. The younger Vallette is reportedly eyeing a run for the EC's presidency this year. He is now in a position that allows him to "test-run" the job. Political rivals will watch him closely. Vallette has yet to formally announce his candidacy.

Nic Ualtair is expected to recover and return to her post in the coming weeks. However, there is some speculation that she may opt to resign. While this is considered to be unlikely by most commentators, Nic Ualtair
did resign before her term as Caldish premier officially ended after her last major health challenges. It is possible she could make this decision again, which would result in Vallette's promotion.

Mac SUIBHNE GOVERNMENT FACES FIRST TRUE CRISIS OF CONFIDENCE AS SUPPORT DROPS
Following a close ally's scandal, fights with working drivers, and a reinvigorated opposition, Stiofán Mac Suibhne sees support drip away.
27 February 2022 | Gráinne Fitzpatrick

Image
Both Taoiesach Stiofán Mac Suibhne and his party have seen significant drops in support.

IT has been long in the making, but the government of Stiofán Mac Suibhne is facing its first real test as support for the ruling Social Democratic Party drops to new lows. Voters have stomached tax increase after tax increase with a hopeless opposition. However, things have begun to shift. The PSD is faced with a series of politics threats. A high-profile minister's unethical activities, an ongoing battle with rideshare drivers over the services they provide, and big shifts among the opposition leave Mac Suibhne in his weakest place since his 2019 landslide. For the first time, the PSD is facing a crisis of confidence.

Per a TRN/G TaV poll published last evening, the PSD is polling at just over 33%. The Liberty Party, with their newly minted leader Áine Nic Gille at the party's helm, saw their strongest showing since April 2021, clocking nearly 21% support. While the PSD maintains close to a 12% lead over Liberty, the party has lost almost 16% in support since the February 2019 election.

This is the first poll to come out following Nic Gille's selection as leader, putting political pressure on a government that has been dogged with a scandal surrounding one of Mac Suibhne's closest allies. Gearóid Mac Mhaighstir, the Minister of Labour, has been accused of coaxing and/or forcing agency officials out of their posts in order to replace them with more radical candidates that he hand-picked. After leaving their offices in the agencies Mac Mhaighstir oversees, many landed new and well-paying jobs at the state oil company, PRG, Government critics, good governance advocates, and opposition parties have called for an independent investigation into Mac Mhaighstir's behavior for several weeks. The Independent Review Board, the nation's top government watchdog body, has not yet picked up the case but has released a series of statements confirming that it is looking into the matter. To this day, the labour minister denies any wrong-doing despite reporting that indicates otherwise. His prominence and close association with Mac Suibhne has certainly caused problems for the government, especially since the PSD ran on an anti-corruption message in 2019. While Mac Suibhne was always upfront about his tax and spend agenda, Mac Mhaighstir's corruption is a betrayal of the electorate's trust.

There are other compounding issues causing series problems for the PSD. In Spálgleann, the decision to effectively outlaw the rideshare industry has caused issues for the national government. Drivers, whose entire industry was essentially banned overnight, have been staging protests for weeks. Some of these efforts have worked to disrupt commuting, causing anger for working people. Mac Suibhne and the national government threw their support behind the city government's decision to kill jobs, accusing rideshare company Voyage of engaging in illegal political activities by supporting demonstrating drivers. The image of killing jobs and harming working people is not one that bodes well for a taoiseach who claims to be their champion.

As these issues flare up for the government, the opposition is revealing in the fact that there is finally direction. Liberty's new leader, the moderate Nic Gille, marks a clear departure from Liberty's recent troubles. She is working to correct the course and her selection as leader has clearly boosted the party, who has seen support go up since its conference earlier this month. She is committed to lowering taxes, promising to pushback against any future attempts the PSD will make the raise taxes any further and to do away with several increases already made. Her moderate approach to many issues is a challenge for Mac Suibhne, who often viewed as more of an ideologue. Nic Gille is sure to appeal to middle class voters, the kingmaker of the Caldish electorate, who abandoned Liberty in 2019. Liberty also faces a political threat in Caoimhín Ó Dubhthaigh, whose new economic populist party seeks to eat away at the PSD's support among the working class.

With all of this ongoing, it is clear why the PSD has lost support in recent polls. Mac Suibhne has also taken a serious hit to his approval rating. TRN/G TaV conducted a parallel poll that found that his approval rating is at 37%, his lowest since taking office. He is down 15 points since this time last year. This presents a serious problem for the PSD and creates an opportunity for the opposition with less than four months to election day.

It remains unlikely that Liberty will overtake the PSD in the polls given how crowded the political right is at present. However, it could be possible that centre-right parties collectively overtake the PSD. Even if that is not the case, Mac Suibhne is clearly set to lose his governing majority. The question now is: how heavy those loses will be?

Hacyinia's troubles likely to increase soon
Just shy of 30 years as a united country, many doubt that there is a possibility for the Union to remain much longer.

ImageAnti-Union protests have begun to draw thousands in major cities in Bessharia.

Hacyinia as a land is ancient, unbroken. Hacyinia as a country, however, is very young and unlikely to exist in it's current state much longer. The "Hacyinia Troubles", as many have dubbed the social, political, economic and paramilitary conflict, has produced the functional instability that the current Hacyinian state governs over. The roots of the conflict can be traced in many ways. There is the train of thought that traces the root of the conflict back to the near concurrent Badist Reaction and the expansion of the Second Heavenly Dominion, while others cite the Oroqic empires of the Great Steppe and the conflict between them, with several other explanations or theories on the origin of Hacyinia's domestic instability.

The Hacyinia Troubles itself can be traced directly back to 2002, eight years following the official unification of the Khanate of Bessharia and the Peoples Equalist Republic of Syran following an internationally brokered peace process led by Zorasan. Atajan Maskat, the former President of Syran and then current Prime Minister of Hacyinia, was instrumental in setting up the dual-power "Inju" system between himself and the Khan of Bessharia Makbule Arda. Underneath the Inju system, both Bessharia and Syran would be allowed to several manage their own domestic affairs underneath their own codes of laws - joining together for national issues such as defense, commerce, diplomacy, and etc. The Inju system was widely seen as a successful example of a consociationalist model especially within a hybrid regime. Following the death of Atajan Maskat in 2002, the power-sharing agreement began to falter and break down. Khan Makbule Arda did not develop the same relationship he had with Atajan with the other Prime Ministers of Hacyinia, and as time progressed the slow trickle of disfunction became a flood as the Khan and various Prime Ministers, including current Prime Minster Erasyl Rinat found themselves struggling to cooperate.

The exact reasons for why the Khan and Prime Ministers have struggled to cooperate are varied, however it is generally believed the now deceased Atajan Maskat and Khan Makbule Arda had what amounts to an understanding of each other despite the differences in monarchist and Equalist politics between them. Atajan was generally referred to as a "soft Equalist", while many of his successors have been elected from a more hardline faction from within the Peoples Party which likely contributes to the dysfunction between the Heads of State and Government. The dysfunction is largely felt only in the national level however, due to the Inju system of maintaining separate domestic laws for the competent states of Bessharia and Syran. As treaties are unable to be signed, national budgets unable to be fixed and more; increasingly public opinion in primarily Bessharia has turned away from the idea of the Union.

For a time, it appeared that the Union would have disintegrated fairly amiably in the early 2000s. However recent discovery on massive oil, gas and mineral deposits in Bessharia in 2009 has changed the calculus. Faced with the potential of losing massive natural resources that could send Hacyinia from economic obscurity to a potential petrostate powerhouse, the Syranic led central government reversed any previous decisions allowing for the potential for Bessharia to breakaway from the Union legally or peacefully. The 2010 "Legislation No. 433 - Ban on Anti-Unionist Activity" is generally regarded as the accelerant for the Hacyinia Troubles to what it is today.

Within Bessharia, the central government issuing legislation banning previously acceptably (if tenuously so) activities was seen as proof that they did not care about Bessharians, that they only cared about their oil. Citing differences in religion, in culture, and in ethnic-make up the "Qasars" saw their creation. A decidedly pro-independence and royalist paramilitary group, the Jigits were able to expand in Bessharia largely unopposed sans from central government crackdowns. Many accuse the Khan and his family of secretly supporting the Jigits with little proof having thus far been discovered. Bessharians began to refuse to answer the national draft, and other acts of civil and social resistance were widespread. Although all of this is illegal in Hacyinia, the Syranic-led central government finds itself largely unable to enforce said illegality in Bessharia due to restrictions imposed by the Inju system.

Meanwhile within Syran, the general feelings that Bessharians are fighting for an independence that would cause both countries more harm than good in addition to the general feelings that Bessharia largely hasn't "pulled their weight" for the Union. It is easy to cite that the Khan of Bessharia has created much of the current governmental gridlock, and even now the Syranic economy has been much of the weight behind the funding of the Union. With the central government being limited in their responses "Wepaly" paramilitary organizations has begun to organize to counter their opposites in Bessharia. The Loyalists often categorized as Neo-Equalist, and largely call for a centralized state and a removal of the Inju system.

The rise of paramilitarism in both of the component states of Hacyinia have fueled the resultant political discourse within the country. Increasingly the thought of comprise with the other is refuted, and currently it looks like Hacyinia is on route to open conflict as protests and counter protests in a disparate nation increase. Bombings, assassinations , kidnappings and other acts of violence are becoming increasingly common as is the accusations that states surrounding Hacyinia are taking sides and are supplying the paramilitaries with arms, funds and training.

Compounding all of this is the Chanwan of far western Bessharia/Hacyinia. Since the Shangean Chanwan War many Chanwan had fled over the border into what was then the Khanate of Bessharia. The Khanate were both unable and largely unwilling to offer a substantial amount of aid to the refugees. An informal agreement was reached by the Khanate and Chanwan community leaders, giving the Chanwan a certain amount of autonomy over their own affairs. With the increasing likelihood that some sort of conflict between Bessharia and the Syranic-led central government coming in the near future, the question begs to be answered of what will the Chanwan play in it? The Chanwan Peoples Liberation Front maintains a role in the Chanwan-led refugee camps which begs the question of will a second Chanwan Republic come into existence in the upcoming chaos of conflict? Others note that both Bessharian and central government officials have actively been lobbying Chanwan leaders for pledges of support.

In closing, and in short, it's unlikely that Hacyinia will remain a country much longer. Sans for some sort of miracle in which both sides reform the broken-down Inju system and agree to cooperate, conflict will come to Hacyinia as a matter of when, not if. The window has passed for any sort of civil or legal dissolution of the Union and both Bessharian separatists and the Syranic-led Hacyinian central government has made it clear that they're willing to utilize violence in order to accomplish their goals. At this point, the match has been lit - it's just a matter of when it will be thrown.

7th Anniversary of the Kulach Constructions scandal.

Vinalinsk

On the 7th anniversary of the Kulach Constructions corruption scandal that dismantled Ulyana Hryhorivna Conservative government in 2015. We in the Free Press take a look at what occurred during this crucial development that toppled Vinalias longest reunification government.

The Vinalian constitution required that a new capital be either found, or made for Vinalia. Vinalia constitutionally knew that the split capital structure with the executive and judicial branches in Velkarichka, and the legislative in Orlavo would be permanent. However such constitutional obligations were put on hold. When a decision to build the capital was finally settled and started in 2004, by Minister-President Andrej Nepyip of the Unionist party, construction was undertaken by the state Constructions company. However this was mainly an issue of planning. Shadow Workers party Minister for Vinalinsk Zhanna Martynova was quoted as saying in 2005 “It took us a decade to decide where to build it, it will take us another to decide on what to build”. When Nepyips party was defeated and became a junior coalition member to the Conservative party of Ulyana Hryhorivna in 2008, at that stage construction on infrastructures had begun, and major road maps were laid but ultimately it remained at the bottom of the government's agenda.

Hryhorivna, a staunch privatizer, removed the state from the construction of anything other than roadways, railroads, and government buildings. Hryhorivna began selling plots of land among major roads to developers to build something. Minister for Vinalinsk Yankul Koriaka, started this process and construction on the city remained stable but exceptionally slow, with plans to finish the city in 2014 created. However Hryhorivna announced in 2009 the master plan of the city, calling for the construction of thousands of homes, a metro system, a state of the art airport, a new national stadium, dozens of sporting structures, government buildings, and vast roadways. Scrapping the previous plan created by Nepyip, a far less ambitious one. When these projects began to be auctioned off, along with the possibility for private developers to build on their own plots, many rushed to the opportunity as the government seemed eager and ready for work to begin. Red Coast, the largest private Vinalian company in the country, acquired land to build its new headquarters in the city to further its growth. One of the winners of said auctions was Kulach Constructions.

Kulach constructions was an enterprise of Valerij Basha, a Kantemoshan-Vinalian entrepreneur, which had successfully worked in apartment complexes in Vinalia, and abroad in Soravia, Kantemosha, and Vedmed. Basha’s daughter Bedche, was in 2007 assistant to her father in Casimirsk where the company was building 3 apartment complexes in the city. There she met Daviti Machna, brother of Conservative House of the People’s member and future Hryhorivna Finance minister Badiul Machna. The couple married in April 2009, and had two children prior to their divorce in 2016. Kulach constructions was a highly respected construction enterprise, with vast experience, so when it won the contract to construct 5 government employee apartment complexes, and numerous housing plots in April 2010, it made sense for them to do so.

However in June 2010, Daviti, a civil engineer himself was assigned to the board of her father-inlaw company. Soon, Kulach was not only involved in its assigned contracts, when the government removed a contract to build a secondary education school in the Maksimir neighborhood, Kulach construction was quickly granted the contract. When the Conservative government of Catherinsk requested the government to oversee the construction of an apartment complex in the city, Badiul personally oversaw that Kulach was selected. The situation for the company looked excellent, with unprecedented growth, and expansion.

When the Capital City Project (CCP) was finally named Vinalinsk in 2012, the expectations of a fully functioning city were almost met. The cheap housing provided by the city, led to thousands moving to the city, and Vinalinsk was a regular city. However such ambitions and delays created a capital city without the capital part. No government agencies had moved to Vinalinsk, the first federal workers in the city were the postal service, and they represented the entirety of the federal workforce until 2014, when federal tax workers arrived. Vinalinsk had reached such a terrible state that the Vinalian Games Organizing Committee (VGOC), which had announced the 2017 Vinalian games to be hosted in the CCP in 2005, expressed concern in 2012 when none of the venues had been built. The Kulach acquired Velodrome contract, had no personnel or individuals apportioned to the project. Kulach had delivered some of its contracts, but they were lacking in amenities, an apartment complex (the first used by the postal workers) reported no running water, and frequent blackouts. The company blamed worker strikes, which had paralyzed other companies all throughout 2012-2013, the strikes sought higher wages and safer conditions. However Kulach constructions was on average the most behind schedule of all construction companies, and with the lowest quality, yet had won increasingly more contracts during 2012-2013 than other competitors, for bidding too low, and gaining federal support. Luxurious apartments however were built on time and on schedule on Kulach private land, and sold to Conservative party members, including the Minister of Labor Yosyp Matveev. When any project faced a lack of funding, they were given additional money for the project. The state-owned Voliya Oil company, a major contributor to the state's budget, had some of its profit directed at cost overruns in the Kulach contracts, this money however as with the original money was misappropriated. As workers for Kulach made the national minimum wage, most of them indigenous people’s or Ardesian migrants, administrators and managers pocketed large sums of money. Valerij Basha in 2012 had bought a 1.2 Million dollar residency in Kisharsk, Badiul Machna had made investments worth over 500 thousand dollars to various companies inside Vinalia.

On the morning of December 12th, 2013. Konnevik Sabauri assistant major of Yamnytsa, a small 7,000 people town in Eastern Soravia was arrested by Soravian police on charges of corruption, and bribery. Although of little importance even in Soravia, he was a consultant for Kulach constructions Soravia which soon faced investigation in Soravia. Although ultimately nothing could be linked back to Kulach constructions, Soravian authorities alerted Vinalian authorities, due to the link to the Vinalian company, and the embassy since he was a Vinalian citizen. Vinalian authorities soon opened an investigation back in the country. Initially a lackluster and superficial investigation, quickly as investigators dug deep began to discover the dark underlying of this company. On February 27th 2015, barely 13 months after Soravian authorities had arrested a small town major, and by protocol reported such information across the ocean, Vinalian police raided offices of the company and numerous worksites. What followed were 6 months of political debacle that toppled Ulyana Hryhorivna’s government.

It was clear that something had gone wrong, and it implicated the higher echelons of the government; soon provincial and even city governments had their own fires to put out. Kulach constructions had been involved everywhere, federal, provincial, constituent, city level, North, South. Soon investigations in Casimirsk, Velkarichka, and Orlavo had begun to yield results, only creating further pressure on the administration. Valerij Basha and his sister Bedche were in custody for alleged misappropriation of funds in Casimirsk, and by the 21st of April Daviti was arrested on suspicions he would flee the country in regards to an apartment complex in Orlavo. His brother the Finance Minister was accompanying the Minister-President to Gaullica for an economical forum, when news of Davitis arrest broke out. This news prompted a government crisis, and Badiul Machna had resigned by the 23rd, upon his return to the country. The public prosecutor recommended Machna himself be stripped of his judicial immunity and be arrested. On the 26th of April, Machna had his immunity removed and was arrested shortly after. Hryhorivna launched an investigation, and when information regarding the contracting of Kulach constructions to build a New Samistopol house for her nephew Samuel Rubar became public on June 3rd, large sections of her cabinet resigned, including the attorney general Vadym Malupin who had been conducting the government's investigation. The rapid collapse of her government led to the Judicial branch opening investigations against her and the cabinet. During this time, numerous mayors, city-councilors, and public officials began to be investigated and arrested.

Although she was cleared by public prosecutors of knowledge regarding Kulachs practices or favoring by the national government. She announced that she would call early elections scheduled for August, on the advice of president Ersnt Rupold, and tendered her resignation which he denied. Her government and party were wrecked by inner infighting and party breakup, and the party had nearly been completely wiped out in the 2015 elections. Hryhorivna was never actually accused of any wrongdoing, and it was revealed that Kulach constructions built the house of her nephew and was paid by a family fund, as Hryhorivnas family themselves were a successful business family. She remained in power until a minority government could be established on September 23rd, almost a month after the elections.

Following the scandal, 6 mayors, 19 city-council members, 5 public prosecutors, 7 public accountants, 6 South Vinalian Congress representatives, 4 North Vinalian Congress representatives, 9 assistants, 3 Vinalian House of the People members, and 2 Senators were indicted and sentenced in the two following years. Accounting for up to 391 years in prison in total. For the company, CEO Valerij Basha received 14 years, Bedche Basha 4 years, Daviti Machna 6 years, and Badiul Machna 9 years. Overall from the company 35 people were arrested and indicted for a total of 144 years in prison. Most of these after entering into agreements with prosecutors. In the end close to 111 million Zolotans had been misappropriated, and today 99 million has been recovered or seized, with the remaining 12 million expected to be housed under fake names, or offshore accounts. The scandal resulted in investigations abroad, leading to arrests in Kantemosha, and Vedmed. Although solely Badiul Machna the former finance minister was sentenced, 4 other cabinet members were indicted but did not face jail time, Minister for Vinalinsk Yankul Koriaka faced a stiff fine, while Hryhorivna was fined and sentenced to community service 8 months after the end of her presidency, remaining in parliament until her retirement in 2021. Overall 44 other government individuals were fined or forced to do community service as part of their sentencing.

The scandal severely delayed construction in Vinalinsk, leading to less government involvement in the construction of the capital, until it was officially inaugurated in 2020. Some of the Kulach buildings were torn down, while others remain mostly intact. The scandal severely shook the Vinalian electorate with many favoring a more private sector friendly Freedom party, or the Southern Nationalist party.

Government vows to “clear streets and restore civil order” as protests turn violent
President promises to crackdown on anti-government protests that have continued for near two-months.

From Arthasthan to the streets of Etruria - Satrian socialism has been exported and now festers into a
serious security threat

Against a cacophony of howling indignation from the opposition, President Francesco Carcaterra told the Chamber of Representatives, “we will clear the streets and restore civil order. Our Republic will be strengthened against all those who seek to undermine our fatherland and democracy. We do so with God’s hand upon our right shoulder.” The President’s words come as a further 200 were arrested as protests devolved into riots in Faulia and parts of Solaria.

In his first appearance before the Chamber of Representatives since the return of the Senate from the February Recess, President Francesco Carcaterra took a firm position on the protests gripping numerous Etrurian cities. He told the session, “for over a month now, we have witnessed widespread protests that have disrupted our cities, everyday life and achieved nothing more than undermine our democracy and sow division across our society.”

“We see that the Arthasthani government is sowing discontent and agitating our Satrian citizens, we see that they receive assistance from the SD, Citizens and the left-wing media. We see life-long agitators attack police. What we see is a concerted effort to destabilise our society, undermine our republic and reject the outcome of the ballot box. This is unacceptable.

“I promise to the Chamber and the Etrurian people that we will clear the streets and restore civil order. Our Republic will be strengthened against all those who seek to undermine our fatherland and democracy. We do so with God’s hand upon our right shoulder” he said.

The SD’s Chiara Mastromarino responded by accusing the government of “once more distorting reality, peddling lies and deceit that tears our nation apart.”

She further said, “need I remind this government, that the right to peaceful protest is a universal right of all societies, those outside across our country have a heroic message that the world is hearing, a message that this government cannot stand to hear.”

The president responded in turn by saying, “311 arrests and 56 injured, including 30 police officers does not constitute peaceful protest, or does the SD operate such a high bar that we can expect utter chaos on our streets come the end of times when the SD are in power?”

An estimated 600,000 people took the streets in cities across Etruria today alone. According to the left-wing media, the current protests which began in late January, are the “longest and largest sustained protests” since the 1970s, when millions marched to demand the end of the military regime.

Interior Minister Gianfranco Galizia announced to the Chamber that the government was prepared to “dismantle the Arthasthani communist network and remove an existential threat to our nation.”
He condemned Arthasthan’s government saying, “since our efforts began, the socialists have withdrawn over 100 million florin in assets from Etruria, assets immorally gained. Be assured that never again will Etruria be weak and complacent.”

The session swiftly devolved into a shouting match as SD lawmakers accused the government of fermenting the crisis over the Subsection to distract from the “howling viciousness of the Religious Liberty Law” according to Maria Donatella Scorzi, an SD backbencher.

The Tribune backbenchers supported the President with many taking pot shots at the SD, especially of its sharing a podium with the Subsection.

One backbencher from the Social Party asked the government whether it would activate the Auxiliary Defence Force and or activate the Protest and Policing Law, to which President Carcaterra replied, “we have many tools at our disposal to maintain civil order and will do whatever it takes to defend our republic.”[/size]

BREAKING Etrurian Subsection of the Satrian Section declared a “terrorist organisation”
Arrest warrants for the group's leaders have been issued and the National Bank of Etruria is expected to freeze all Subsection assets
Notizie

More details to come

The Federal Ministry of the Interior has officially classified the Subsection a “terrorist organisation” and has issued arrest warrants for its entire leadership. The National Bank of Etruria is expected to announce an immediate freeze on all Subsection assets in Etruria.

In a statement read out by the ministry’s spokesman, the government made this decision “in wake of the violence on our streets, the disorder in our cities, aided, abetted and organised by the Subsection under order of the Arthasthani regime.”

“Terrorism is the use of violence to achieve political goals, the violence on our streets aims to overthrow this government and our Republic – that is terrorism. As such, we are officially classifying the Etrurian Subsection of the Satrian Section of the Workers’ International as a terrorist organisation.

"As per the Civil Security Law of 2017 and the National Security Law of 1983 we have promptly requested the National Bank freeze all assets held by the Subsection in Etruria and we have distributed arrest warrants for all senior officials, leaders and officers of the Subsection to the appropriate agencies. This decision was not taken lightly by the federal government, but the preservation of peace, internal security and stability is the paramount responsibility of government" the spokesman said.

This is a breaking story, we will bring you more information as we receive.

POLICE BATTLE PROTESTERS OUTSIDE ETRURIAN EMBASSY
Senrian anti-corruption protesters threw objects to protest bloody crackdown
perpetrated by the Tribune government against Etrurian protesters

Image
A February 25 protest march in downtown Keisi. Protests have continued in Senria for more than a month.

March 1, 2022 | by Eiko Nisioka in Keisi | Clashes broke out between the National Police and anti-corruption protesters in Keisi after protesters began to throw various projectiles at the exterior fencing of the Etrurian embassy in Senria as Senrian protesters expressed their solidarity with Etrurian pro-democracy protesters currently facing a bloody, brutal crackdown by the Tribune regime.

The incidents comes as Senria's own anti-corruption protests persist, unabated, after nearly a month.

For several weeks, Etruria has been rocked by protests against efforts by the Tribune government of Francesco Carcaterra, which is closely aligned politically and ideologically with the Aikokutou, in protest of Carcaterra's efforts to shutter civil society organizations, demonize ethnic minorities, and destroy Etruria's democratic system of government.

Yesterday, however, Etrurian police began a systematic crackdown on these peaceful protesters, using tear gas, rubber bullets, and flash grenades on crowds in an unprovoked glut of violence in which thousands were arrested and thousands more were injured, several dozen requiring hospitalization for severe injuries in the city of Faulia alone. This gory and criminal repression has been praised by Carcaterra, who described his sadistic assault on the right to free assembly as "the strength of the republic".

Outraged by these actions, Senrian demonstrators - who have been calling for the resignation of the dozens of individuals implicated in an effort to cover up the botched restoration of the Kouhimon gate in Ukyou, and for the release of Kenta Kawamoto, a lead investigator who released documents proving the cover-up to the press - moved to show solidarity with their Etrurian counterparts, with protest organizers in Keisi announcing that ongoing protests there would march past the Etrurian embassy there.

The National Police, in an official statement, said that protesters, after reaching the embassy, began to throw "water balloons, plastic bottles, paint, rocks, and other assorted projectiles at the outer fencing of the embassy, specifically targeting the embassy's signage". Police were then called in by the embassy, the statement claims, to deal with "disorderly conduct".

What followed were scattered clashes between protesters and police as protesters made efforts to de-arrest each other and to resist being pushed away from the embassy.

The National Police maintain that they arrested 34 people and that 15 people were injured, including two policemen, though none of them were injured severely.

In an official statement, Keisi mayor Rokurou Kozakura - a member of the opposition Koumeitou party - expressed sympathy and support for the protesters, and condemned Etrurian police as "thuggish", but encouraged protesters to "behave with the dignity and honor which reflects the righteousness of [their] discontent". A statement was also released by Minister of Rites and leading Aikokutou member Yumi Takamatu, condemning the "disorderly and unbecoming conduct" of the protesters and vowing that the Senrian government would "respond swiftly" to guarantee the safety of foreign diplomatic missions within the country.

As of press time, the Etrurian embassy in Keisi had not made an official statement on the incident.

NEWS | Attack on important PetroLav refinery leave dozens dead.
Bessharian Ulans claim credit for the attack on the recently constructed, $10 billion facility.
2022-3-1T 07:35:01Z
Image
Smoke rises from the PetroLav-HOG Karakiya refinery in eastern Hacyinia.

Fighters on horseback in a daring nighttime raid on the PeroLav-HOG Karakiya refinery killed dozens according to Hacyinian reports. Utilizing small arms and rocket launchers, the roughly hundred strong Jurwak force overwhelmed the nighttime security forces of the refinery and has almost utterly destroyed the recently opened, $10 billion facility created in partnership between PetroLav and the Hacyinian Oil Group. Dozens are reported dead, including Lavanan nationals who worked as managers at the refinery. Initial reports state that the Lavanan managers were hung and the bodies of the primarily Syranic workers piled at the entrance of the facility.

The refinery opened in late 2021 as a joint venture between the two state owned enterprises of PetroLav and the Hacyinian Oil Group, formerly known as the Syranic Oil Group. The refinery's construction had been delayed several times due to threats from Bessharian Jurwaks, semi-militarized pastoralists who live in the borderlands between the subnational Hacyinian state of Bessharia, Lavana, and Zomia. Even following construction, the refinery was largely unable to hire local workers and had to hire from other areas of Hacyinia. The refinery was expected to be the central hub of the Karakiya oil field, which has an estimated 271,000 oil barrels per day production capability.

Social media shows some of the destroyed refinery had been graffitied with “1/71”, a reference to the January Uprising in the Terjasa Conflict which many in the region were impacted by. The Terjasa Conflict is commonly referred to as the “steppe insurgency” and Bessharia was an active participant in the insurgency. Jurwak leaders has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that “Bessharian oil can not and will not be stolen by those who had killed our kinsmen, regardless of what their lap dogs in Chosh state. Bessharian oil is for Bessharians, and their riches are for our people.” Since the discovery of massive oil deposits in Bessharia, which has a estimated total capability of 860,550 barrels per day and about 70% of total oil production in Hacyinia, the Hacyinian central government has aggressively attempted to expand facilities into Bessharia with limited success primarily due to local obstruction.

The central government of Hacyinia in Chosh has strongly condemned the attack, pledging to punish those involved. The Hacyinian Minister of the Interior Firuz Dadabo has stated that this attack “is a travesty, a slap in the face, to all of those who wish to see this Union succeed. This joint project with our friends and allies was meant to uplift us all. Regardless of what the bandits in the south think, we will rebuild.” Reports state that the Hacyinian government has already reached out to Lavana to formulate plans to rebuild the facility, to commit to the PetroLav-HOG partnership and for support in coordinating against the Jurwaks. In addition, the Minister of the Interior has publicly stated that the Hacyinian government is considering deploying "Volunteer Internal Troops" in order to guard other oil installations located in Bessharia. Volunteer Internal Troops has typically referred to primarily Syranic and Pasdewar pro-Union paramilitary organizations; an official deployment of them would most certainly lead to a marked increase of tensions and conflict within the country.

The Khan of Bessharia, the Head of State of Hacyinia, has issued no comment on the matter. Prior to the Union of Hacyinia, the Jurwaks patron was traditionally the Khan of Bessharia and were regarded as an extension of the Khans authority. Following unionization, the Khan was legally restricted from interacting or coordinating with the Jurwaks. Many suspect that the Khan has utilized other intermediaries in order to coordinate with the Jurwaks and continues to support them.

Trials of former Trovão judges and election officials begin
Several elections officials and four judges are among those who were charged by the SIC last October, the highest profile of those being former High Court Judge Tiago Montenegro

Precea, Luzela: Today the first trials began for several people that were charged by the Corruptions Investigations Service last October as part of the investigation into the Trovão elections scandal from last year. These include several elections officials and four judges from the Trovão High Court, one of which is a former member of the Paretian High Court.

The Trovão elections scandal came out from a leak last year during the 2021 Snap Election, stating that the Trovão High Court and Trovão Elections Comissions, heavily populated with UC and SD-appointed officials, wanted to weaken the rising Patron League's popularity and using their power to fabricate a reason to ban them from the ballot, according to the leak it however did not succeed in doing so and was called off. The scandal boosted the Patron League immensly in the polls last summer and was likely a major reason for their win, and it greatly tainted the legitimacy of the High Courts and election system in Paretia. The SIC charged and arrested many of the officials named in the leaks for corruption, election fraud, court misconduct, and even treason.

Of those charge include most of the Trovão Elections Commission and many staffers for the commission, many of the officials resigned after the scandal was leaked, all of them however still claim the charges on them are false. Over a dozen former lawmakers, members of the Senate of Paretia as well as the Assembly of Luzela were charged, all of them being members of the UC, SD, and CC, these include Rui Cunha, former SD member and Culture Minister under Premier Pascoal, and Teófilo Amaral, former UC member and Vice President of the Assembly of Luzela.

Protests in support of Montenegro

Of the five members of the Trovão High Court, four were charged by the SIC. The highest profile person of any of the charged is Judge Tiago Montenegro, former Judge of the Paretia High Court, he is one of the most decorated judges in the Court's history. He was a Judge of the Paretia High Court from 1993 to 2015, after then he became a Judge for the Trovão High Court. He is known for his work cracking down on drug smuggling, fighting corruption, and championing civil rights. However as of recently he has been in the light as being a leading member in the scandal, and he also has become a major target of the Patron League. Montenegro has stated he believes he is not guilty and that the charges against him are false, even stating himself he believes he is now just a target for the LP.

Outside the court room small protests began, many in the opposition believe the charges against here are false, or harsh, and that the trial is meant to strengthen the Patron League's hold in elections. Judge Montenegro stated today "I am not guilty, these charges are not true, there could have been a scandal I was unnaware of, but I was in no way part of anything of the sort." He believes he is a scapegoat, due to previous anti-LP comment he has made before, and believes "justice will be served, but not how the LP wants".

Two major court cases in Paretia, this, and another, concerning the Patron League's abortion bill and SD-led Tosutonia's law to curb it. Social Democrats say that these cases will be important in political struggle with the Patron League government. Democratic Voters Movement leader Barboza said similar words. The Patron League General Secretariat Caprichoso stated that the opposition party leaders have "made a drastic shift since last summer, before they condemned the actions and were willing to punish those involved, now they deny it. They see this as a political opportunity, not a just trial."

Bloody Tuesday: the day the Tribunes unleashed the police and auxiliaria on its fellow countrymen
2,500 arrested, 300 injured, 104 seriously. Manhunt underway for Jacqueline Bhabha on terrorism charges

A woman is dragged away from the Piazza del Popolo in Faulia

Tuesday 28 February 2022 will go down in Etrurian history as Bloody Tuesday, as the day the Etrurian government unleashed the police and auxiliaria on its citizenry in a grotesque violent display of power. After near two months of peaceful protest against racism, lies, backsliding, corruption and social conservatism on steroids, the federal state battered those protests away. Approximately 2,500 people have been arrested, while 304 people were injured, 104 seriously. Within days further authoritarian legislation is expected to “protect us”, we as a democracy are in dire straits.

The so-called “Street action” began shortly after midnight when balaclava-wearing police officers stormed a squat in Faulia used by the Faulia Social Group, a progressive protest collective. The FSG had proven capable in organising and rallying protests in Etruria’s third largest city, as well as running a savvy social media campaign denoting Tribune racism, deceit and conspiracy theories. Police proceeded to savagely beat those inside, one member of the FSG who successfully hid from police told Orrizonte24 that she saw two police offers beat a 23-year old woman repeatedly over the body and head with truncheons, while another eyewitness reported police smashed the head of 44-year old man against a radiator before dragging his unconscious body outside. A total of 93 FSG members were arrested, 63 were injured in the raid, 36 required hospital treatment.

The injured were sent to the Gennaro Maestri Hospital, where a doctor told Il Popolo, “Everyone of those inside have suffered severe head and bodily injuries. At least two require surgery, I have never seen anything like it.” Worryingly, the Hospital received a visit from the Civil Security Service and following that visit, no member of staff wished to discuss the injured.

The head of the FSG, Anna Imbesi who was not present in the building at the time told Il Popolo and Orrizonte24, “I am so shocked and sickened, I can not go inside again, there’s blood everywhere.” She has since confirmed she will be taken the NPS and Auxiliaria to court over the brutal assault upon her colleagues.

The raid silenced the FSG’s social media accounts and denied Faulia its most prominent coordinator for marches across the city’s centre. It also gave a good indication of what was to come.

As the morning came, an estimated 800,000 people returned to the streets in Solaria, Tyrrenhus, Faulia, San Alessandro, Traffiume and Carcoforo. Smaller protesters emerged later in the day in Accadia, Stazzona, Carxeri and Schiuntrave. However, unlike the previous weeks, the protesters were met by thousands of police officers and soldiers of the Auxiliary Defence Force, all clad in riot gear.

The first violent clash took place in Solaria at around 11am, when riot police charged a protest march on the Via Aureliana. They struck the march with batons, tear gas, flash grenades and rubber bullets. Images and video showed police battering down protesters to the floor with their shields and batons, while other officers flooded the historic thoroughfare with tear gas. The sheer ferocity of the charge together with the furious blows by police was shocking for many reporters on the scene to comprehend.

Clashes then erupted elsewhere in Solaria, at the Piazza Devozione, police and auxiliaria charged into the crowd of 10,000 while also implementing the tactic known as kettling, forcing the crowd into a smaller and controllable area. As they pushed the crowd inward, they beat many and dragged hundreds away to be arrested. At 11.50am, the EtruriSat News reporter Giorgio Messi was shot at close range with a rubber bullet, he was giving a live broadcast at the time.

The number of injured exploded at the Piazza Devozione as NPS and Auxiliaria continued to fire tear gas and rubber bullets into the tightly packed crowd. After 40 minutes of forcing the crowd into a suffocating mass, they released the pressure allowed many to leave, escorting them to the Solaria Metro station to ensure they’re departure from protesting. At least 189 people were injured and 47 required hospital attention.

At Solaria’s Parco Cardinale Carafa where 40,000 had come to protest, the NPS and Auxiliaria launched themselves into the crowd at around 12.30pm, striking many down with batons, while the volume of flash grenades and rubber bullets gave way to a cacophony associated with modern day warfare. 285 people were arrested and 56 injured, though only 4 required hospital treatment.

So severe was the police assault in Solaria, that the National Police Service reported that it had cleared Solaria’s Piazzi by 1.40pm.

The majority of the violence however took place in Faulia, where the city has remained Etruria’s hotbed for peaceful protest. The city saw over 300,000 people take to the streets today in condemnation of Tribune rule. One of the most common features of Faulia for the past two months has been the sit-in protest by the Campioni dell'Arcobaleno, one of Etruria’s largest LGBT+ groups, they were struck first when police fired tear gas and flash grenades at the sitting protesters. Hundreds of images also showed police firing paint balls in colours of the LGBT+ flag at the protesters in a disturbing display of bigotry. Police arrested 66 people, while 49 were injured and a further 12 required hospital treatment, including three who suffered eye injuries after being struck by rubber bullets.

Similar scenes were repeated at the Piazza del Popolo where NPS and Auxiliaria assaulted the protesting crowd. Several writers for Il Messaggero were present on the square to witness police beat protesters senselessly before dragging them to trucks and vans further down streets and alleys. It was also at the Piazza del Popolo that one of Orrizonte24’s reporters was smacked to the floor and beaten repeated with batons, while his cameraman was struck across the face, resulting in a broken nose. The reporter was hospitalised with a broken rib and wrist. Il Popolo accused the NPS of targeting him, other reporters and photographers also report being struck by officers’ batons or projectiles.
However, in Faulia the police and Auxiliaria found resistance. As they struck down protesters, they were soon engulfed by bottles, stones and Molotov cocktails. Images and video also show police being beaten down and attacked by protesters, mostly men who pushed female protesters back to protect them. In one incident, a police officer, was engulfed in flames, we understand he is in hospital. The clashes on the Piazza del Popolo would last until the early evening, where protesters armed with slingshots and fire bombs staged running clashes with police. Several cars were set alight and store fronts damaged, a police van was also torched.

A total of 211 people were injured at the Piazza del Popolo, including 34 police and Auxiliaria. 30 people were seriously injured, including the police officer who was struck by firebomb. 5 protesters suffered severe injuries from tear gas canisters, while one protester has been confirmed to have been blinded for life after being hit by a rubber bullet. One image showed a protester with a hole in their cheek, analysts claim the injury was likely caused by smaller rubber pellets.

Further violence in Faulia erupted at the Piazza Galleria, where 8,000 people were protesting in supporting of the Satrian community. The police attacked the crowd initially with tear gas and flash grenades before charging in with batons. A water cannon was also deployed but was not used against the crowd who dispersed relatively quickly. 21 people were arrested and 13 were injured.

Smaller clashes took place in Traffiume and Carcoforo in the evening as protesters linked to left-wing groups attempted to ambush a police convoy with bricks and firebombs in what the NPS described as a “case of gross coordinated violence by thuggish groups.”

By 8pm the streets were clear, the violence was over. What was left behind in multiple cities was streets stained in blood, acrid low-lying smoke and remnants of tear gas. The streets were littered with debris, people’s belongings and a sense of a turning point in Etruria’s six years under a far-right government that sees half the population as its nemesis.

Throughout the day, former police, lawyers and commentators expressed stomach churning shock at the violence unleashed on innocent Etrurians, battered for merely exercising their right to free protest, expression and speech. The government justified its actions the night before claiming the protests posed a threat to Etrurian social stability and democracy, an extreme lie, while also equating the protesters to the Subsection, which today it classified as a terrorist organisation.

The nation and the world bore witness to a government that unleashed its law enforcement and reserve army on its own people. The violence, often sadistic is truly a watershed moment for our country. A total of 2,503 people were arrested, though we are told that only 250 face charges, the remaining have either been released overnight or will be tomorrow morning.

A manhunt is also underway for Jacqueline Bhabha, the deputy leader of the Subsection who remained in Etruria despite the evacuation of much of its leadership prior to today. She has been slapped with terrorism charges, including “incitement of civil unrest.” The Subsection’s remaining assets have been frozen by the National Bank of Etruria, while an estimated ₣156 million has been withdrawn. The government’s sole statement following the classification and outbreak of violence stated, “law enforcement are working tirelessly to locate and apprehend Jacqueline Bhabha, a prominent figure in the communist organisation and its plot to infiltrate, undermine and overthrow our Republic.”

Her current whereabouts are unknown.

Tomorrow, President Francesco Carcaterra is expected to make a statement to the Chamber of Representatives, in what is likely to be another session dominated by insults and vitriolic partisanship.

Editorial: Our country is on the precipice of dictatorship

The events of today will be seared into the minds of millions and stain the pages of Etruria’s history. Not since the dark days of the military dictatorship has state power been so violently unleashed upon Etrurians. The sight of bloodied streets, men and women dragged away for championing decency, truth and democracy will stir many dark memories for those old enough to remember the rule of Altieri and Sciarri.

For two months hundreds of thousands marched in condemnation of state racism, state deceit and state-backed conspiracy theories, they marched in honour of Shreya Patil. They marched in defence of an Etruria where the far-right were not given free reign to terrorise and kill, an Etruria where entire swathes of society were not used as political chess pieces, and an Etruria were women would be free to speak out when their rights are endangered. Today, the Tribunes smashed, battered and punched that away.

This paper has long sought to avoid sensationalism and the emotional drift toward the overdramatic when it comes to the state of our democracy, but after today, we can now categorically say we find ourselves upon the precipice of dictatorship. For what occurred today would only be found in places such as Soravia, Shangea and Zorasan. Even in Senria, itself a dominant-party state and facing a popular revolution, has seen its police restrained. But in Etruria, where it was no revolution, hundreds were assaulted by police. Tomorrow, the President will speak, we also expect a new “Foreign Organisation Law” to be presented.

How we move on from here is to an argument for another time, first, we should all sleep and process what we all saw today.

NEWS |Lavanan party elections create possible future turmoil for the country.
Following the predictable hardline victory on todays party elections, a crisis in the future of the country begins brewing.
2022-03-01T 22:20:30Z

Following today's Lavanan Section of the Workers International (LSWI) election. The hardline and conservative Khouph section ensured near majoritarian control of all chambers of the organization, in an easily predictable manner.

Following an announcement back in November for changes to the way elections are conducted and seat allocations are performed, to the disadvantage of the Democratic form of government and current Premier, Laina Keomany. Although her section earned 79% of the party members vote, their share of power inside party politics has been drastically changed, with supporters of current General Secretary Khudu Narimanoa, taking near unanimous control of all chambers. Posing a serious threat to the balance in government.

Laina Keomany has voiced her opposition to the election changes, but is ultimately powerless to intervene as she works at the will and desire of the General Secretary. Now that her supporters and other moderates have been kicked out of power. Narimanoa stands in a position to request a new Premier if he so desires. The party's paramilitary wing, the Workers Guard had its leader replaced as soon as news of the victory became available. Haimi Alenevong the former commander of the force had served in that role for 10 years, and was replaced by Mengu Viododhe a current Army general. The Workers Guard is a 100,000 strong force, and would in any sort of conflict between party and state be brought to fight, however the Guard is made up of both moderates and hardliners, mostly Kachai nationalists. Meaning any move would create chaos between the rank and file of the guard. Narimanoa is well acquainted with army generals as well, meaning that the Lavanan Army is not entirely to be trusted either. Narimanoa has ushered a cascade of new appointments to key positions inside the party and the government.

When news of an attack on Petrolav (Lavanas state-Oil company) in Hacyinia by Bessharian Jurwaks broke. Narimanoa made sure to decry Keomany’s leadership stating that a strong Premier would not have allowed such bloodshed. Hacyinia is involved in its political crisis, and the country is faced with the possibility of breakup, such an opportunity would allow Narimanoa the chance to silently coup Keomany. She already faces issues of low popularity, mainly as she has been unable to stem corruption and improve the economic situation in the country.

Keomany, who is over 60, might surrender to the pressure and continue her role as a figurehead while others move the strings, or retire without a fuss. Dezevau, Lavanas northern neighbor, would see a strengthening hardline in Lavana as a backtrack for its neighbor, and would represent just the latest collapse of a moderate Councilist state in the last year. Lavana who has involved itself in the recent Etrurian internal turmoil by protecting Jacqueline Bhabha, the deputy leader of the Etrurian Subsection of the Satrian Section of the Workers International. Who is currently escaping Etrurian authorities on dubious terrorism charges. Is certain to create both tension and support for Keomany. How she handles the coming crisis with Etruria, and Hacynia might define the outcome of the brewing leadership crisis inside the party, if the latter does not appear first.

Analysis: The Quiet Green Revolution.
As news from Gaullica focuses on its increasing intervention in the Tsabaran Civil War, its domestic situation progresses steadily under little scrutiny.
Image
Céline Besson, former PSD Senator in the First Chamber.
March 2nd, 2022|Verlois, Gaullica

Image
Deputy Premier Marie-Justine Tiquet
has defined much of the policy of the current government.

Verlois, Gaullica - As of late, Gaullican domestic politics has taken the back seat in the international scene. When Gaullica is brought up in international circles, it is often discussions relating to the 'mobilisation of the Gaullican war machine'. Gaullica's actions are currently obscured by a thick fog of its foreign policy, which some have even argued has undergone a 'fundamental change'.

Domestically, Gaullica's news is hardly making headlines. There are votes in the Senate, there are laws passed, there are debates to be had -- but the general population (and that of the international community) is enraptured with news stories from the south. The strange sense of national pride mixed with existential dread as news reports trickle in of a recent campaign in which Federal Tsabaran forces were able to regain ground, partly due to the efforts of Euclean air forces. And it is not contained to an interest in Tsabara. Gaullican news is also intently focused on the news from Bahia, as Gaullican forces are assisting Garambura in its 'stabilisation of the Kulo insurgency'.

This is not a scathing criticism of the electorate in any sense of the word. These are 'interesting times' to live in, as interesting as a war for the soul of a nation can realistically be called without it being insensitive. So it is to be applauded that Gaullicans are interested in issues outside of their own country.

However, this provides the government with a unique opportunity: a sense of being incognito. The watchful eye of the public is turned and because of this, the government is able to introduce its legislation that flies 'under the radar' of the perceptions of most people.

And because of this the PSD-LV coalition has the potential to be the most transformative in this country since the constitution itself was adopted. Society, it seems, is on the cusp of a radical revolution. Yet this revolution is not being proclaimed from rafters, nor is it being declared. They are the changes in the cogs of the Gaullican machine that will cause this rotation, and they are happening in minor ways.

This 'Quiet Green Revolution' is ongoing in numerous ways. Verlois and Rayenne are now dominated by car-free, traffic-free and low emission zones. These aim to 'pedestrianise' the cities once again. The congestion charge has been raised in both cities to over €5 for each category of vehicle, with the high point being €10 for non-essential diesel heavy vehicles and trucks. And whilst there are exemptions; they are 'common sense'. The emergency services, the armed forces, those vehicles that carry goods and essentials and those given specific permission in the face of disabilities are still permitted to drive, but its a far cry from how it was say -- fifteen years ago. And to coincide with these reforms, the local authorities in both cities have begun a radical campaign to improve the health of their citizens in the way they travel through the promotion of cycle transportation and an injection of funds into cleaner and electric public transportation.

And, in terms of the changes, the citizens of both cities seem to be happy. In Verlois, some 59% of those asked viewed the changes positively. 35% were opposed, and the remnant were 'unsure' or 'waiting to see'. In Rayenne, the population was actually more in favour: with 64% of the those surveyed viewing the 'pedestrianisation of the city' as positive. 28% viewed it as negative, specifically as 'bad for business'.

The automotive industry, obviously, was 'fuming' (pun intended). Yet much of their anger has dissipated on promises of support from the government in the form of subsidies for the development and creation of 'competitive', 'top of the market', electric cars. These reforms and preparations are to 'defend' the industry in the preparation for Gaullica's upcoming ban on petrol based vehicles. And, it is believed, that success is being made 'in strides'.

There are other transformations taking place; but none as interesting as the government's support to traditional meat producers in farmers and ranchers in the assistance to develop lab-grown meat and vegetarian-alternatives to meat. To transform Gaullica's society, which is strongly proud in its cuisine and views vegetarianism and veganism as 'odd' (though it is becoming more acceptable and trendy in younger demographics), into a society willing and able in eating meat grown in laboratories or meat alternatives is another facet in which 'climate change' is aiming to be tackled. And by making Gaullica a hotspot in the development of these upcoming technologies, the government aims to get its 'foot in the door' in a market that is expected to grow expontentionally as people become more conscious of their actions.

This 'Quiet Green Revolution' has failed to garner much criticism against it yet, but perhaps that will change as the public inevitably grows tired or bored of an issue that they view has 'stagnated'.

Ultimately, transforming society is a complicated matter: and the government should be anticipating resistances from all aspects of society once enough issue has been raised.
