Character Application and Information Sheet

Do Not Remove: DRAFT123123
NS Nation Name: Goddess Taytay
Character Name: Allison Schnell
Character Gender: Female
Character Age: 32 Years
Character Height: 5'11"
Character Weight: 123.5 lbs (56 kg)
Character Position/Role/Job: Congresswoman from Tennessee's 5th Congressional District
Character Country/State of Birth: Pennsylvania, U.S.A.
Character State of Residence: Tennessee
Character Party Affiliation: Democratic Party
Faceclaim: Taylor Swift
Main Strengths:
Natural Charisma: Rep. Allison Schnell has been considered as one of the most talented people persons in recent memory. Her personality is considered charming and magnetic.
Physical Beauty: Schnell, rare for a politician, is widely considered one of the most attractive women in the public eye today.
Compassion and Empathy: Despite her political enthusiasm and tendency to invite some degree of controversy, she's known to be kind and respectful to everyone and has a compassionate personality that few can contradict.
Vast Personal Wealth: Schnell is independently wealthy and is worth tens of millions of dollars.
Already a Household Name: Schnell was famous before running for office, she is widely renowned in all five hundred and thirty five districts.

Main Weaknesses:
Lack of Relevant Experience: Schnell's past occupation is that of a singer and musician, while this can help her speak more clearly and make her voice more pleasant, it does not lend itself well to training her for the debates that arise.
Lack of Education: Schnell has never completed a Batchelor's Degree, while intelligent in her own right, she lacks the inherent book smarts of most of her opposition, many of whom sport master's degrees or law degrees.

Biography: (Minimum 2-3 paragraphs)

Schnell is an American singer, composer, musician, actress, model, and politician. She was elected to Tennessee's 5th District in 2006. She was born in Pennsylvania, but relocated to Nashville during adolescence to pursue her dreams of being a country singer, songwriter, and musician. During this time she avoided political discussions, and was known as kind and caring and devoted to her family and friends.
Schnell's first album was self-published but became an immediate minor success and garnered her public attention. Her second album was promptly signed and her subsequent albums were a best seller. She won awards for the Grammy's and music video awards as well. She continued to amass devoted fans and was one of the most popular and adored young performers in the world.
Her stardom grew as she continued to produce her own music, which mostly dealt with everyday topics that her fans could relate to. She avoided excessive drinking and recreational drug use and went out of her way to show appreciation to fans regularly, sending them gifts and paying them visits even. She expanded her singing to acting, playing minor supporting roles in several films.
Ultimately, she could not remain quiet and opened up about her political views in 2005 and is excited to represent Tennessee in the United States House of Representatives. While many conservatives are disappointed she is not on their side, her likability has helped her avoid making too many enemies. She's noted that she considers herself a feminist, is pro-choice, supports gun control measures, same sex marriage, and opposition to the war. Schnell has supported bills that would limit the rights of people to discriminate on basis of race, gender, or sexual orientation. She also has supported social services for families in need and deviates from her more liberal principles by supporting the rights of home schoolers, vouchers, and charter schools, as she was home schooled in order to focus on her music. Tanya Schnell, despite less education has learned to speak fluent Japanese and has stated she would like to attend a public university and would study history. Schnell also has stated that she is a Christian, which she states is about accepting people as our siblings in Christ, no matter who they might be.
Schnell has noted that she is in a relationship with an English actor right now.

Other Info:
It is rumored she is considering a run for US Senate in 2008.

Despite disavowing them recently, Schnell is popular among white supremacists who consider her an Aryan ideal. She has faced criticism for not disavowing this fan base when they first surfaced, only disavowing them shortly before running for office.

Thanks, the changes requests have been made.

I made a mistake, and I’m terribly sorry about it. However, looking at your prior posts, it appears that you currently don’t have any experience with either a previous iteration of this RP or any other RPs. We have a long-standing rule that players new to the RP must start off with a character in the US House or a state legislature (though we recommend the US House):

6) No Senators/Governors for new/unfamiliar player’s first time character
New players (that is players who do not have at least one previously accepted character and seniority of at least one month cannot apply for characters serving as Governors of individual states or members of the United States Senate). New players may apply for state senators. It is also recommended new players make a member of the house of representatives to maximize the interaction with other players

I understand this inconvenience this may cause, and sincerely apologize for my oversight. If you can revise Amadeus so that he is a US House member (maybe even for NH-2), then I’d be more than happy to do once over.

I'm a little disappointed, I question how I survived 2006 and worry for 2008. Any advice? I was going to make some changes for Mr. Putnam, I wanted to credit him with a book. So I'll get on that.

I’m not an expert on NH politics, so I will defer to another admin. But I think it’s possible that a libertarian congressman from New England can survive 2006 (I mean, Ron Paul was a libertarian and he survived voting against the Iraq War for God’s sake). As for 2008, most of us (myself included) will have characters facing election/re-election that year. You’ll have a year ICly to prepare for re-election. And if you want, after a RL month with us, you can always apply for a character in the Senate (assuming we have room) as a back up.

Character Position/Role/Job: Congressional Representative- House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties-Ranking Member (2007-Present), New Hampshire's Second District (2003-Present), Podcaster (2002-Present), New Hampshire State Senator (1997-2001), Independent Radio Commenter (1992-1996), Author (1991-Present), Attorney (1989-Present)

Character State of Residence: New Hampshire
Character Party Affiliation: Republican

Main Strengths: Intellectual, Analytical, Fortuitous, Courageous, Independent Spirit, Firm Principles, Born into a Wealthy and Historically Prominent Family, Religious
Main Weaknesses: Awkward, Absent-Minded, Anxious, Aloof, Hidden Mental Stigma, His Family Name may be seen as elitist
Biography: (Minimum 2-3 paragraphs)
Amadeus Putnam was born December of 1962 in Boston, Massachusetts as the oldest of five. He is a member of the famous Putnam family, one of the Boston Brahmins. He was born to a Protestant father and a Catholic mother, the latter particularly devout. His father owned a brokerage firm in Boston and his mother was a homemaker but was extremely active in the community.
Putnam grew up in Quincy and attended a Catholic High School. During that time, he was a tournament chess player and captain of the debate team. He also started a Bible Study at his school, worried that Catholics often didn't know the Bible as well as Protestants did. He graduated toward the top of his class and attended Boston College in undergrad. He initially wanted to become a Catholic priest but decided against it and ultimately had a double major in economics, philosophy, and a minor in divinity. He graduated in 1984, and subsequently went to law school, graduating in 1988 and decided to practice in New Hampshire both due to more laxed regulations and to avoid having to compete with the large Boston firms that dominated Massachusetts. He settled in Newbury, New Hampshire, a small town in Merrimack County.
Putnam became active in both state and local politics and supported a populist Republican Presidential Candidate in 1992 and 1996, favoring his policies generally, although questioning some of his more extreme social views. Putnam began running a local radio program called "Faith & Freedom" where he discussed his conservative and libertarian views. He resigned from his program to run for state Senate in 1996, winning a seat, which he held for two terms. He resumed his radio show as a podcast. Although he had supported the President in the general election and after 9-11, he aggressively opposed the PATRIOT Act and called it "a stab in the back." He felt that the plans to enter into Iraq were ill-conceived as well. He made a bid for House of Representatives in 2002 and won a narrow victory. He won more comfortably in 2004. Having been positioned somewhat against the unpopular Bush administration he managed to evade defeat in 2006.
Putnam was widely considered one of the most conservative and most liberal Congressmen simultaneously. Putnam supported abolishing the Department of Education and Commerce, supported a low flat-tax, and a full privatization of social security. Putnam, however, also opposed the "No Child Left Behind" policy, corporate welfare, the invasion of Iraq, and was an early supporter of same-sex marriage. He was aggressively opposed to the PATRIOT Act, and an opponent of the death penalty. Putnam was a staunch opponent of the war on drugs and ultimately legalization, although pursued gradually. Putnam also has generally conservative positions including a pro-life position and supporting the Second Amendment. He wants to move away from fossil fuels toward nuclear power, touting it as "clean, safe, and cheap." Despite all these positions, Putnam would prefer more authority be delegated to individual states. Putnam expressed worry about the housing market since his failed Congressional Campaign in 2002 and expressed his concern publicly after being elected to the Senate. He also has criticized the growing national deficit.

Other Info:
Putnam has written four books, "Stoicism Today," he wrote in 1991, "Stoicism Tomorrow" he wrote in 1995, one called "Paradise Lost: How the Vision of the Founding Fathers has Eroded and What We Must Do to Save It" which he wrote in 2003, and "A Yankee Republican in King George W.'s Court" which was a satire with non-fictional commentary of his experiences, published in 2005. He's hoping to write another book on stoic philosophy and has decided being in a minority party for the first time would be a kind teacher.
Putnam met Mackenzie "Kenzie" Nichols (b. 1973) at a speaking engagement in Boston in 1995. She was a grad student at Boston University and attempted to debate him regarding his candidate of choice. He enjoyed speaking with her, however. Despite their disagreement they began a lengthy correspondence. They married in 1998. She has since earned a PhD and is a clinical psychologist and professor at Franklin Pierce University. Putnam has since had three children Thomas Aquinas (8), Dagny (4), and Artemis (2).
Kenzie believes Putnam has Asperger's Syndrome (still in the DSM in 2007) and has tested his IQ to be 138, the latter is the only thing that has been released to the public regarding his mental health.
Putnam's siblings include a brother, Gabriel (Age 40) who is married and works for their father as a stockbroker, and a married sister, Melanie Anderson (Age 38), who is a surgeon at a major hospital in Boston. He has another married brother, Thomas (Age 34), who is a Major in the United States Army and a West Point graduate, and an unmarried sister, Abigail (Age 31), who is a history professor and writer, living in Virginia.
Putnam is close to his parents and siblings but considers Abigail to be the closest.
Putnam has two female ferrets as pets. He named one "Outlaw" and his wife named the other "Luna." "Outlaw" has become a bit of a minor celebrity in some circles and has posed for many photo-ops with the Congressman and is known to enjoy curling up on his lap. Putnam has a bill for consideration to legalize the ownership of ferrets in Washington, DC where they are currently illegal. This ban inspired the name. Putnam's residence in the beltway, however, is in Arlington, Virginia, where keeping a ferret is perfectly permissible.

Amadeus Putnam is a tournament chess player and is rated 1741 with the USCF, he likes the Queen's Gambit, the Caro-Kann, and the King's Indian Defense.

Once the OP (Dentali) has time, all accepted characters will be added to the roster.

For now, we are touching up the OOC, figuring out procedures, and letting folks apply before we open the IC thread. What we’ve done in the past (but might change this time around) is we had two separate IC threads: one that was set in Congress, where congressional characters introduced legislation, voted on it, etc. in the House and Senate; and a main IC thread, where all characters could interact, campaign for relevant offices, etc.

The Admin team is currently working on ways to improve the congressional legislative process in this RP, but I imagine that once we have that ironed out (and have a good number of folks with accepted applications), we will begin the IC (again, that start date will be in March 2007).

So I dealt with the reason he decided to practice law in New Hampshire, no large predatory firms and lower taxes.
As to where he's lived, everywhere is mentioned in the bio now.
He grew up in Quincy, MA.
He attended Boston College in Boston. He also went to law school there.
He moved to Newbury, NH, which is in Merrimack County. Nice and central and in the 2nd District. He obviously has a home away from home in the DC Metro Area.

Character Application and Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Melovinta
Character Name: Harold Pierce Gunsley
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 44
Character Height: 185 cm (6'1)
Character Weight: 82 kilograms
Character Position/Role/Job: Economist (1986-1996), (1996-Present) Representative from the All-District of North Dakota
Character Country/State of Birth: North Dakota
Character State of Residence: North Dakota
Character Party Affiliation: Republican
Faceclaim: Mike Horner
Main Strengths: Strong farmer/rural-base support, establishment support, strong Wall Street support, long political career, and veteran support due to military background.
Main Weaknesses: Making off the cuff remarks and opening his mouth before thinking, never fighting a truly competitive election, lack of outsider credentials, and lack of funds.
Biography:

Born to a German-American lawyer and a housewife in 1962, Harold Pierce Gunsley grew up in a moderately wealthy family. He was never the best student as he grew up, but he was good enough to get into the university of North Dakota, graduating with an economics degree, but instead of acquiring a civilian job, he applied to join the marine corps in 1986, which he described as the "most stressing days of my life", he was assigned to the reserve. With a military career for him locked away for now, he became an avid stock-trader and an economist, racking up a considerable amount of wealth, 17 million Dollars to be exact from his first day on the job to his run for Representative, but he continued stock trading as Representative to have a steady source of income. In 1991, he was called into active service during the Gulf War, temporarily leaving his job. He was deployed during the invasion into Iraq, being part of a frontline unit in which he acquired a Purple Heart Medal and a Bronze Star Medal for losing his lower right leg in an attempt to save a fellow soldier from a grenade. His lower leg was amputated, and replaced with a prosthetic, and he was badly scarred on his chest, which caused him to serve away from the frontlines until the end of the war, ending with him being promoted to Corporal. After the war, he went back to stock-trading and being an economist. In 1994, he established the Gunsley Dakota Firm, an investment bank and financial services provider, which he used to acquire more money and to later sustain his political career.

It was in 1996 that he made his debut into politics when he ran for the position of Representative of North Dakotas at-large district against Sarah Lawrence, campaigning on conservative Christian family values, winning easily in the heavily conservative state. In his position he campaigned against gay marriage and abortion, campaigned for increased farmer subsidies, and made several connections in Washington. He ran again in 1998 against Sarah Lawrence again, winning again, where he continued his previous policies of championing against gay marriage. He won re-election in 2000.

As the millennium dawned with 9/11 and the War on Terror, he easily won in 2002 due to the nation still in a grieving state after 9/11. He supported the War on Terror and the invasion of Afghanistan, but raised some eyebrows at the claims of WMDs in Iraq, campaigning against the War in Iraq as he argued it'd take away valuable time and resources from the real results in Afghanistan. But as he saw an increasingly liberal America over the horizon, he toned down his conservative rhetoric against homosexuality, and drug use but not gun control to retain his conservative base, which cost him a good number of voters in 2004, but wasn't much of a loss due to him stressing his military background. In 2006, he attempted to reach out to the moderates by fence-sitting on homosexuality, which caused him to win the election, but not a blowout as some expected. But in the year 2007 he is concerned about the unpopularity of the War on Terror, the history of his remarks against gay marriage, and that he might be too conservative for the time, and he is certainly not ready to give up his seat without a fight, hoping to capitalize on the rural, veteran, and conservative or moderate votes aswell as his record against the War in Iraq to retain his seat in the House in 2008, and possibly make it into the Senate in 2010 and in the event of a miracle, the Presidency in 2012.

North Dakota was represented by a Democrat from 1993 - 2011, and before that by a different Democrat from 1981 - 1992. You will likely need to change the party of your character, as well as some of his views to be more in line with the Democratic Party around this time, though I am willing to defer to another admin for that.

Could I possibly change the state my character is representing instead of changing his views?

I’m not an expert on NH politics, so I will defer to another admin. But I think it’s possible that a libertarian congressman from New England can survive 2006 (I mean, Ron Paul was a libertarian and he survived voting against the Iraq War for God’s sake). As for 2008, most of us (myself included) will have characters facing election/re-election that year. You’ll have a year ICly to prepare for re-election. And if you want, after a RL month with us, you can always apply for a character in the Senate (assuming we have room) as a back up.

NH is probably the most libertarian state i need to take a more detailed look at this dude but yea i think he def could have survived.

Different state, same issue: 2004 - 2011, a Democrat occupied that seat. My recommendation for you: take your time, do your research (Wikipedia has historical occupants for all of America’s congressional districts), find one that had a Republican occupant at least after the 2006 election, and go from there.

My other issues concern your character’s opposition to the Iraq War and his seeming prophetic foresight that the US will be “less conservative” in the future. None of our characters are prophets or fortune tellers. The challenge will be RPing as a politician through their eyes without metagaming, but I have faith that you, and any of our applicants, can pull that off. Realistically, only a handful (literally a handful, only 6 House GOP and 1 GOP Senator) opposed the Iraq War. Your character likely toed the line, either because they genuinely believe the Cush Administration, or because they felt like they couldn’t oppose it, despite their misgivings.

As for your character’s weaknesses, none of them really make sense to me, or seem like non-weaknesses. I’ll break them down one by one:

Never fighting a truly competitive election - why is this relevant? That isn’t so much a weakness as it is a reflection of political geography and/or sheer incompetence of your character’s opponent(s).

Lack of outsider credentials - So he’s not an outsider…not many politicians are. Why does this matter? How is this an actual weakness? Plenty of politicians spin their resumes to fit their needs.

Lack of funds. - Is this a reference to your character’s personal finances, or his campaign funds? Because we’re starting in March 2007, long after the 2006 elections. Campaign funds aren’t relevant at all right now.

As you are hunting for a new congressional district, I personally want to see more fleshed out weaknesses. Personality flaws, is he struggling with something, is he having an affair, does he have financial problems that might make him susceptible to unethical practices, maybe even criminal ones, does he struggle with an addiction, etc.

Take my character, for instance. He is a closeted gay man representing a district in Kansas. He is unmarried, so he’s the target of rumors hinting at his sexuality. Being in the closet and unable to live as his authentic self negatively affects his mental health, his mood, his ability to forge closer ties with his colleagues. If he decides to try to date or hook up in secret, he could be blackmailed or outed and possibly lose his seat. In short, make your weaknesses believable and actual weaknesses. Refer to the OP for some additional guidance on that.

Biography: (Minimum 2-3 paragraphs)
Born in Juneau, Alaska In 1969, to Mary Baker-Albescu, who was born within the same City, and to his native Romanian Father, Costin Albescu, who had fled Communist-ruled Romania at the age of 17. His mother was 23 when she had Alex, and Costin was 27 and left his native country at the age of 17 in 1959 left the Capital city to go to the Land of the Free and Opportunity in Alaska. Though his mother had wanted more children, his father had refused to have another, suggesting his numerous low-paying jobs during his infancy wouldn't pay the bills for multiple children.

At the age of 12, he would gain an immediate interest in Basketball and would join the School's team. Between 12 - 14, Alex would become a promising player due to tall height at that age, and at 14 would go and play for Alaska Fairbanks' Youth Team at that age. However, his lack of skill on the ball and his lack of movement off-ball would lead to humbling cut 9 months later, with him going from one of the tallest member on the team to being fairly average height in the team. However, his love for Basketball wouldn't fade, and would continue to go for try-outs at the Youth Team until 16, which would be unsuccessful. However, by 16, Alex was a fairly bright student, focusing an academic studies of History and English Literature. This would lead to him at 18 going to the University of Alaska South-East, and would be studying Political Science. It was his time at College which would see his political views mould in.

It is believed Alexander's views were moulded by two factors, his Professor and his friends. His professor was a fairly moderate man in a political sense, belleving in mild conservatism. His views would transform over to Alex, who would, in addition to the classes, attend events held by the Democratic Party. However, his shift over to the Republican Side would occur after he would have a seat under a local council in a town near Campus. This was were he developed an idea of moderate conservatism, and his time spent at the council, in which was between 1988 - 1992. However, his political ambition would go further than local council, and would join the Republican Party in 1993. Between 1994 - 1998, he would join the council of the capital, in which was Republican-Controlled. It was in 96' in which Alexander would befriend the Mayor and would quickly have a lot of influence in the Judaea's Local Councils. He would push bills to support families, swell as using his long bands of influence to prevent certain motions going into place. It was 1998 in which would resign and would then prepare for even more ambitious areas, Governor of Alaska.

Alexander went for the Governor role twice, in 1998, when he would lose in the Primaries to another Republican Candidate. However, it was a surprise to seem him make it to the last 4 for Alaska, seemingly the youngest candidate. He would quickly prepare for 2000, where it was the mid-terms. Though he wasn't backed by much, a few former council members, his major backing was former Mayor of Juneau, though he was unsuccessful once more. However, he would make it to the Last 2, where he would lose in a tight vote. However, these string of progress allowed him the political backing by former members to go for the 2004 Election. The reasoning for not taking part in 2002 was due to his financial and political preparation for 2004. He would receive backing from Former Mayors, and coming up to 2004, he would have the backing of the Party for the House of Representatives in the 2004 Election.

2004 went just as was expected. Winning the primaries with ease, his balanced, youthful and "Liberal Conservatism" in which promised the backing of everyone. His slogan for the election was "Conservative Thinking, Liberal Acting". Many saw the slogan as implying his moderate view. However, him winning as a HOR could be a backstabber. Though his balanced and people-pleasing approach to politics would win him a seat in HOR, his actions wouldn't be at all Republican. Alaska had never been a strong-, right-wing state like Texas, yet, he would work almost as both a Republican and Democrat. Though this allowed changes to go much smoother, this would see the Republicans make him untrustworthy, and make him unpopular in the parties more radical and right-wing areas. He wouldn't support the War on Terror, attempting to vote against implications. However, 2006 would see him comfortably due to his pushing of several changes in his area of Alaska. His 2006 victory wasn't a shock, however, many believe between now and 2008, he will attempt to shift the power onto the Democrats, suggesting not only a change of heart in parties, but an ambition to become Governor, as a democrat.

Known as "The Swinger" in the Republican Party, the next two years could be crucial for Republicans in Alaska, and Democrats, with a power-hungry. ambitious and youthful Representative, who may stop at nothing to get power. Some may even argue he is a "Career Politician".

Thanks for the advice, I edited my application to make him the Representative for Ohio's 5th Congressional district, which had a Republican incumbent from 1988 to 2007. I also made him a longtime painkiller addict, and have a drunk driving accident (similar to George W. Bush in 1976). I also made him support the war on terror (Both Iraq and Afghanistan) belligerently which can come back to bite him. Hopefully my application will get accepted.

I am vetoing the establishment and ownership of Gunsley Broadcasting Company (even as a local broadcast company, that on top of your character’s personal wealth gives them a lot of power), but once that is removed, Congressman Gunsley of the OH-5th will be ACCEPTED123123.
