The weather is something that effects every one of us every day no matter what from the temperature to rain or hurricanes. Any weather related event is eligible to be discussed here.

It can be fascinating subject and climate change has an impact on it. My idea for this thread is too discuss weather events around the world as well as possibly current weather in your area. Historical weather events can be discussed too.

Cyclone Batsirai made landfall in Madagascar with winds of 145 mph and is responsible for at least 122 deaths in the island nation along with Mauritius. The damage in the town of Nosy Varika has described as like its been bombed.

Quick PSA announcement to any of our NSers living in or around Florida-if you're not aware (and not watching Accuweather 24/7 like I am because I become an armchair meteorologist during hurricane season), Hurricane Ian is forecast to make landfall as a Cat 2-3 hurricane sometime tonight or tomorrow, possibly into Thursday depending on your location. PLEASE communicate with anyone living in or around the Florida Coast to obey any evacuation orders, and to get to another state or to higher ground if possible. Traffic coming out of Tampa Bay is already looking very worrisome.

Make sure you have the following, if you plan to evacuate:
- Irreplaceable documents.
- Non-perishables.
- At least a week's change of clothes.
- Toiletries (hygiene becomes incredibly important to mental health during a natural disaster, believe it or not)
- Phone, charger, a reliable way to communicate with others. You need to let people know you are going from Point A to Point B.
- Food, supplies for pets.
- Good shoes, or good boots, or both.
- Non-electronic things to do (coloring books, books to read, card games, board games, etc.)

Heed all tornado warnings if they are placed over your area! Don't stay in a trailer if you can help it! Get to a sturdy shelter, get to a sturdy room not next to windows, or to a storm shelter.

Haven't had anything like that here in Wisconsin. However, we are nearly twenty or thirty inches (depending where you are) below our yearly snowfall amount with no sign of that changing. Even though that sounds bad, the worst year for snow was during the winter 1967-68, and during that year we only got ten inches all year. This year we have gotten roughly fifteen inches.

Spent my honeymoon in Bancroft. Lovely country. Weather just about as bad as ours. Cold one day, rainy the next, sunny and warm following.

I actually agree. I much preferred Bay Area weather. I got three climates in one day, it was great. Here it's just 'warm' and 'hot.' For two weeks you have to wear a jacket. Maybe. If you're out at night. Meh.

Would you rather have 25 degrees and 86% humidity, or 40 degrees and 35% humidity?

What's better? A winter which ranges between 10 and 15 degrees (5 if you're very unlucky) and is somewhat damper than summer, or a classic Chicago winter?

Is the reason why the weather makes for great small talk is that it (a) affects everyone, (b) affects everyone differently and (c) therefore creates endless conversational possibilities, or is it that the weather is consistent and therefore so mundane as to be incapable of sparking strong feelings, let alone conversation?
