Australia or Canada?

Please consider the following hypothetical:

You must move to either Australia or Canada. Which do you choose? Why? (If you already live in one, then choose between the remaining country and New Zealand).

Please consider economic prospects, the weather, cultural norms, demographics, and other factors. Assume that you don’t have citizenship in either but that your long term immigration is approved. What do you prioritize? Which part of the country would you move to?

Is it time to move to the Down Under/Outback… or is it Oh Canada time?

For me, I would choose Australia mainly because of the weather (I really dislike the cold). I would want to choose an urban center because I like big cities, so maybe Sydney.

If you are American then Canada just might be the one because you wouldn't miss a thing: NBA Basketball Games (The Raptors), Major League Baseball (the Bluejays), fastfood chains (McDonald's, Starbucks, etc.), and no language barrier (people will be able to understand you as you butcher the Queen's English with an American accent).

If you are from some other part of the globe then Australia is definitely the place to go.

I’m already Canadian, so I’m going to have to pick Kiwi land. It’s like a warmer Canada, and less horrific animals like Kangaroos and Koalas that are in Australia.

I can't stand Australia (even though legally I could move there if I wanted). Sure the climate is more agreeable but the culture is terrible and the people are the rudest I've met anywhere on earth (not withstanding one or two individual exceptions).

Conversely, I've found the stereotype true concerning Canada where people there really are the nicest I've ever met. The only drawback around Canada is the climate, though to be fair Vancouver isn't that much colder than where I currently live and it's actually slightly cheaper.

But, I would move to Australia, due to my home country of Indonesia being in close proximity with Australia. I would choose to live in Perth, since it lies south of Java, or just any settlements that are the nearest to Jakarta or Jogjakarta.

I mean I could theoretically live anywhere in the world. Money isn’t really an issue as I’m retired and the US government pays for my medical care and gives me what I call the “sorry we fucked you over” money.

So if moving to a different nation removes that then I don’t move. But since Canada is still pretty close and Vancouver is on the west coast I’d move there. Even though I hate the cold

I would have to choose Canada. It would be much easier for someone already living in North America, and I like it more, too. The winter weather wouldn’t bother me at all; in fact, it is milder in some areas than what I’m used to experiencing. Culturally, most of it would be pretty similar to where I’m from, with a few exceptions. As far as selecting a particular region to live in goes, I would be most interested in some parts of Atlantic Canada, Northern Ontario, portions of the Prairies, or some of the Territories.
