Alexa sneaked through the camp, unseen for everyone too drunk or distracted.

She saw the Ogre with his orcfriend Garonka, she showing him a photo of KORRI KJARTANSSON with signature and the Ogre making a puzzled face, then smashing his fist into his hand.
The orc shook her head and made a singing sound, what led to the ogre scratching his head.

Alexa ventured forth seeing Ed Sharp with one of the dwarves, Gim Robertson, the dwarf laughing: “Lost in Axe throw again? I could show you some tricks, human.”
Ed answered something that wouldn’t be fit to be printed in the newspapers, but made the dwarf laugh even more.

She came by Sir Dagobert, who talked with Kis Terratus.

„A fine spear you have. And you made a good impression in the Spear Throw this time.“

„I was terrible. I had no feeling the whole time.”

“But with your big .. arms..”

“It is just a spear for games. Nothing you could use in a real fight. But your sword on the other hand…“

Sir Dagobert proudly drew it out.
„This is Thruster, a giant black blade, created by a forgotten dark mage in his desire for power, hardened in the hot fire of a fiery volcano, then won by tight combat from a hero, thrown away in a dark hole, pulled out again, spilling blood and then dropped and yielded in the battle against the wicked demons. Won back again by a champion.“

Kis touched the blade.
„And that was you?“

„No, I bought it from a strange merchant at the road to boost my equipment. Anyway, I won’t need it here in the joust. Only my trustfully lance. I could show it to you in my tent.”

Alexa went on from the conversation about pointy things, past singing and drinking dwarfs, who were using a big rope for skipping, moving right, seeing Cassandra Bendragon working out, with the chess master Hubertus Schimmel playing something on his phone, sitting on the strongwomans back while she did push-ups on her knuckles.

Then she had reached her own tent and entered it.

“So did you get it?”, asked her twin.

“Of course. I don’t know why you need it but whatever.”

“To make a luck potion out of it. Could you shred it and put it into the flask?”, he put his mask on.
“Time for Mysterious to show himself.”

He left through a secret exit.

Alexa cleaned her glasses and sighed. All work but no fun for her. She started to rasp the stolen spear from Milchama on a grater.

Bake Off Bonanza

Dame Maggie Lawson wows judges to claim bronze in the Bake Off Event at The Vilitan Mountain Games.

Stepping away from her usual television cooking show gigs as a judge; this time it was Dame Lawson's turn to be judged by her peers.

"It was quite nerve-racking but thrilling at the same time. I've spent the last decade being the judge, tasting, critiquing and eliminating contestants if their creation didn't fit the brief, if the dish didn't taste scrumptious or if their presentation was severely lacking.

The shoe was now on the other foot as I oozed contestant realness.

I'm just so lucky to have been a trained chef for so long. I've even cooked for the Royal family,  but I still get butterflies as I wanted to bring my A-game and win against the competition."

Dame Maggie Lawson revealed as she allowed a brief interview after the contest had finished.

"The night before the event each competitor was given a backpack and an unpriced shopping spree at CoCoMart. How I wish I could have that freedom back home in West Phoenicia. To shop until I drop. I would never leave the supermarket."

Dame Maggie Lawson chuckled.

"Going into that CoCoMart was like The Hunger Games. There was a mad dash, shopping trolleys ramming and contestants howling. My trolley may have run over a foot, I don't recall. The only thing missing was cannon sounds and a picture of the fallen contestants in the sky."

"I created 'trias caelestis pomums' 3 Heavenly Apples. We love apple desserts in West Phoenicia. Oh hell we love any desserts

West Phoenicians are renowned for their sweet tooths. Shops and cafes selling chocolates, cakes and biscuits can be seen on every street corner in every city and town. Many of these sweets include honey due to numerous beehive farms. But we are most famous for our peaches, apples and oranges which feature in West Phoenician desserts due to the popularity of these fruits which are grown throughout the nation. The peach is the national fruit of the nation. Peach cobbler and Baked Apples are considered the national sweet dishes. However I choose not to use peaches, to do a proper sweet peach dessert right, I need peaches from our own country. So I choose Apples, as who doesn't love apples, they are so versatile.

'Trias caelestis pomums' allows indulgence and decadence. Three separate unique dishes, but they combine on the plate to tell a story; a warm, sweet and spicy story.

3 becomes 1. Like the Holy Trinity for Apples.

"I thank the initial judges who critiqued on presentation, flavour, even smell. I know they made an excellent choice moving me to the final. But I am very disappointed in Gourmand Doniita, obviously, they are not a fan of apples. But I can't complain, a bronze medal, promoting West Phoenicia and I enjoyed watching the other contestants baking their creations. I feel a possible Cookbook Compilation is in the works. Who knows?"

Dame Lawson thanked everyone for The Vilitan Mountain Games and the warm support she received back home.

THE BILLBOARD GAZETTE

PLEASE LET ME SCORE

Hoping to end a disastrous slump for Chartistan at the Mountain Games, Little Exnash and Gabby "Alphafu" Yves step up

The story of Chartistan through the first 3 days of the Vilitan Mountain Games has been one of underachieving and heartbreak - Not tying themselves to the 3 major events on offer, the Strongman, Lumberjack and Heavy Athletics competitions, the Chartistan national football team has been using the open events as an exercise before the beginning of World Cup 90 qualification, and it hasn't started well in the slightest. Anne Delphine's time at the Spears events ended with a last place finish at the Accuracy event, and she struggled at the Spears for Distance as well. And the less said about Air Latte the better - Being disqualified from the Bake-Off event seemingly has her as a threat to the culinary world as some people have said. But with 4 events left for the Chartistani delegation, it's clear that something has to happen in order for any person in this group to walk away with a medal.

Little Exnash is set to ride upon his horse for the Jousting event, the man granted a title of "Sir" for this event only facing off against West Phoenicia's Major-General Marcus Clarkson in the preliminary round, otherwise known to some as the Round of 24. To him, having been selected to joust, with his "ride till I can't no more" style, a win to advance to the last 16 (With a shot to face Doug as well) would be beneficial. "I know some may consider jousting to be like riding on a tractor with a lance in your hand, but as someone with actual horse experience, it's actually pretty hard to get everything set for a strike and for it to actually land. Clarkson is going to give me a hard time, heck, most opponents will give me a hard time, but when everything's set and done I want to walk out with a medal around my neck."

The judges, who handed out byes to 8 esteemed knights-to-be (Including Doug) weren't impressed in how Exnash dressed during the warmups, opting for a more purplish set of armor with glitter instead of the usual attire. "I understand why they didn't like my armor, but hey, if it makes me stand out in a crowd, I'll take it. It's always nice to be known for something different." Little Exnash adds that he will probably leave the competition in a sportscar if he gets eliminated in the Quarter-Finals.

But certainly one of the favorites for the Kleptochase World Championship is a more polarizing figure. Some already love her attitude, while others call her a plant set up by a Billboard based marketing firm looking for a new footballing star. But Gabby Yves, known by her nickname "Alphafu", has been honing her craft and preparing for the big tournament, nonetheless proven by her skills breaking into her ex's home before smashing everything to bits. That aside, her lock-picking skills and her hatred of everything but dogs, as well as the team, has set her up for a Multiversal Quarter-Final appearance, with the defending world champion nation Milchama as the only nation that had a representative earn a bye to the Multiversal Final Four. The winner of the Multiversal side of the bracket will play the AO champions for the Kleptochase World Championship which, alongside the Tug of War, is the most prestigious event at the Mountain Games.

"Having a chance to vent out all of your frustrations and going ham is one that makes me happy, and Kleptochase will perhaps see me excel," Yves said in an interview. "I really hate my ex, I really fucking do, and just getting to use all that built up energy to just whack it on the locks makes me happy. I really want to go all the way and have a shot at the title against AO's best, whoever they may be out of that stacked field, and yes that includes that manticore Offarockenry, she looks like someone with the knowledge to go all the way."

Yves declined to comment more about her ex.

The Slicer: What Makes Him Tick?
The Morovian hero of the Vilitan Mountain Games Axe Throwers has been a local legend for quite some time. Now gaining international acclaim, we at Morover Today explore what really motivates him to keep snip, snip, snipping all day long.

Oh me, oh my, oh me! How tickled we are to see Morover in international headlines. What seemed to be an insignificant decision on behalf of the New Regime has turned into one of the most significant foreign events that Morover has participated in. While many athletes have been impressive, there is none more mysterious nor successful than the being known simply as The Slicer. What initially emerged as a legend in the rural plains of Morover's eastern-most district turned into a mystery as legitimate evidence began to arise, seemingly proving its existence. A manhunt was staged, a reward listed. Three thousand Fres. Five thousand. Ten. The bounty continued to rise on this seemingly dangerous individual, until it reached its peak at three hundred thousand Fres.

When a sickly being wearing all-white showed up at the house of the elderly Cylinda and Farthing Hammond, few would have believed him in being the legendary being. It was a hoax - the legend described him as towering, a sight to behold. How could the small creature before these people be responsible for the cuts on trees, the shredded pieces of cloth, leaves cut so precisely that it seems as though military-grade equipment would be needed. And yet, upon demonstration of his slicing, it was clear that this was the beast, and the old pair were set for life upon turning him in.

The government, of course, was assumed to have offed the wretched criminal. At least, this was assumed until their announcement of the roster at the Vilitan Mountain Games. Their choice was controversial at best, and downright unsafe at worst. And yet, it seems to have worked out. As The Slicer steps up to bat (the metaphorical bat - it's actually an axe), it is obvious that they feel at ease. Though many doubted their abilities during axe throwing, it was obvious after getting a perfect score on the first round - a feat achieved twice throughout their time in front of the crowd, and only achieved once by any of the other contestants, combined - that they were more than competent at the task at hand. When asked about the proficiency in the sport, they wrote on a slip of paper only: "slicing but far away". While certainly not the most in-depth interview, it's more than most others have heard from the man (for a figure of speech) of mystery.

This doesn't get down to the root of the question though: Why are they the way that they are? While we were unable to get in contact with The Slicer themselves, we were able to get in contact with an anonymous government agent that worked intimately with Project 7i9, as they called it. While there is certainly a lot of information that we cannot reveal to the general public (We love you, government overlords <3), or that is simply too scientific to really understand, but, in simple terms, the "man just really likes slicin'" - listen, that's our anonymous source's words, not ours.

Well, now you know!

MSB:
We know that you all are pleasantly shocked at Kristen Coulo's performance at the Vilitian Mountain Games "Spear Throwing for Accuracy", and we are happy to report on that today! While the rest of the world is focused on the three-way tie for bronze, we here in Morover are focused on our local superstars, the Coulo twins. You all know the story that has captivated the nation, of the horrible injury stalling the performances of the Coulo Duo, where the pair of twins performed fanciful tricks with their flaming spears, and their wild performances. During this off-season, Mackenzie took up a solo hobby: Throwing spears competitively, just to see if she could. As she improved at her craft, Kristen watched from the sidelines, slowly healing and supporting her sister all along.

Well, they both got their moments this season in Vilita - Mackenzie put on what many thought to be an impressive performance in the Distance Throwing, as all eyes turned to Kristen to see if she had any chance of going competitive long-term. With hard work under her belt, there was quite a bit of anticipation to see her perform on the international stage.

In a stunning performance, not only did Kristen do remarkably, given this is her first international competition, one of her first competitions at all, and her first serious public performance in three years, but she also got a better placement than her sister. Coming in at seventh place is no small feat, and everyone at Morover is so proud of her.

This placement came following a stressful match, in which she was nearly eliminated two rounds in a row, causing what seemed to be a brief panic attack, before finally missing all three attempts in the fifth round. Immediately following her elimination, Coulo collapsed, in what has since been called a stress-induced incident, prompting both a Morovian handler and Mackenzie Coulo to rush onto the field to ensure her safety. In a home video taken by the mother of the Coulo's (back in the safety of their own room), the two sisters are crying into each other's arms. After a long and treacherous journey, they are back, and now they are much more than bedazzled javelins - indeed, they are serious international competitors who will only continue to perfect their craft.

In a live video that Kristen hosted on her MyFriends account, she said, in the midst of tears, "I'm just, like, I'm so proud of myself. Like, for real. I thought I would never be fit to do this thing that I love doing again, but I did do it. I recovered. The doctors doubted me, I know lots of you doubted me. But I made it. Thank you all. Thanks to, uh, my mom. Dad too, I know you couldn't make it to Vilita for this trip but I know you're here with me. Thank you to Mac - you're a sister to me, literally! And thanks to each individual out there. I hope you know it. Thank you."

We wish both Mackenzie and Kristen a safe journey back, and an enjoyable rest of their time in Vilita!

"I look redder than walrus breast": Kyrmy Kyrmynen on the Vilitan Mountain Games

Kyrmy Kyrmynen of Timantirkas assembled a team of brave Nykipiks to attend the world-class Vilitan Mountain Games. The event, organized in multiple events across four categories, proved a chance for Kyrmynen to take advantage of the Tuletorkanvaartisaarto Agreement and show Nykipiflugpuu why he is capable of leading the new era of the archipelago.

Nykipiflugpuun Valtakülikinfobülletään: Hello Kyrmy, we are glad to finally be in contact with you!

Kyrmy Kyrmynen: Good evening! I am happy to be away from home.

NV: Tell us a little bit about the Tuletorkanvaartisaarto Agreement.

KK: The agreement was decreed by the MISTANYK Council a few months after the Global Athletics Tour finished. The violence in the streets of Timantirkas forced the Abovians to hear our wishes; we formed a counter-council and demanded their withdrawal, but a compromise was found. MISTANYK agreed to leave Nykipiflugpuu on the condition that we held a formal election to choose an administrator for the archipelago, and we accepted on the condition that President Kaj Torvald van Aalsbyyre holds an early election for the presidency of the Abovian Union.

NV: You are antagonistic to van Aalsbyyre, then?

KK: Certainly. He is a criminal; he has blood on his hands.

NV: So how did the agreement bring Nykipiflugpuu to Vilita?

KK: One of the clauses in the agreement was to give back full autonomy to Nykipiflugpuu until the election. We in the Timantirkas counter-council pushed to add a specific article to the agreement, wherein Aboveland and Nykipiflugpuu may not participate in the same sporting event at the same time until both elections have been held. We have always been entered by Aboveland in sporting events; we must manage such things ourselves if we are to seek fuller autonomy and the transition period is a good place to start.

NV: You mentioned a transition period; what would this be, and what comes next?

KK: Right now the Abovian Union is loosely "united". There is no effective control from Aboveland over Nykipiflugpuu at the moment beyond a small and greatly reduced MISTANYK Council which is under a strict curfew; they will help to organize the administrator election in March and then leave the island. After that, the new administrator will have to agree on our status within the Abovian Union with the new Abovian president; if I become administrator, Nykipiflugpuu will not recognize the legitimacy of the Abovian Union should van Aalsbyyre run for and win the presidency.

NV: On that note: what independence framework would you pursue with Aboveland?

KK: Nykipiflugpuu has rich resources but we are a tiny and isolated nation. The Abovian ethnic argument for the existence of the Union does not hold up for Nykipiks, but we must see the economic benefits in the relationship for our archipelago. A lot of us want a cold, quiet, unbothered and independent Nykipiflugpuu, but if we set the rules instead of Aboveland the Union could very well benefit us more than ever.

NV: Now, on a lighter note: how have you been enjoying Vilita so far?

KK: It's so hot and bright; it's horrid! I look redder than walrus breast but I must be there for our team as they continue to shine in the Mountain Games.

NV: We have been following closely! Who is your favorite star on the team?

KK: I won't pick favorites; each and every one of our athletes proudly represents our homeland in their own unique way. That said, I think we should all be watching anxiously tomorrow for Katja Kivikikkik. She has been incredible in the athletics events and I think she might be our next international sporting star.

NV: Excellent! We'll be keeping a close eye on Kaaru the Bear in the Joust tomorrow!

KK: Kaaru is entered in the Kleptochase event. There are no athletes entered in the Joust event.

NV: Kaaru is entered in the Joust event. There are no athletes entered in the Kleptochase event.

KK: No, Kaaru is entered in the Kleptochase event. There are no athletes entered in the Joust event.

NV: Kaaru has always been entered in the Joust event.

KK: Don't you tell me who is entered in the Joust event, and who is entered in the Kleptochase event.

Wulfstan did not understand this country.

He did not understand the language spoken, nor the means by which he had arrived.

He did not understand why he had been forbidden to use his own sharpened lances. Did not the other competitors accept the risks as he did?

He did not understand the frightful engines and machines that seemed to be everywhere. They transported people, blared aweful sounds, bore images that moved and spoke.

He did not understand why no one seemed properly attired, nor why no one's station was evident from their clothes.

All he did understand, was the joust, his own craft, and the song that rose in his heart when he practiced it.

A smile came to his face as he hefted the lances provided. They would serve.

Lifting his helmet in a heavy gauntleted hand, he strode toward the tourney grounds, flanked by his complement of squires. With the joy of the contest surging in him, he let loose in song, and showed to all nearby why the people of Belngeau knew him as "the Yodeler."

Vilitan Mountain Games I :: Day 4

Postby Vilitan Mountain Games » Tue Jan 25, 2022 12:27 am

A single athlete will compete across five traditional events for the Vilitan Highland Rose, awarded to the overall champion of the Heavy Athletics Discipline at the Vilitan Mountain Games. All athletes are considered equal regardless of gender, species or origin. There is no entry limit to this event. This event and its trophy remain purposely unsponsored so as not to over-commercialize the games.

Image
The athletes attempt to throw a 4 stone weight with an attached handle over the greatest distance. Competitors may choose from a compact metal weight, a sheaf (Massively Large Bundle of Straw) or may opt to present any 4-stone weight as their apparatus to be approved by Event officials. Regardless of the chosen apparatus, Athletes may only throw it with one hand but may use any technique. For the purpose of unnecessary complication ("Tradition") Distance is measured in standard Tachbean FEET.

The athletes attempt to toss a 4 stone weight with an attached handle over a horizontal bar using only one hand. Competitors may choose from a compact metal weight, a sheaf (Massively Large Bundle of Straw) or may opt to present any 4-stone weight as their apparatus to be approved by Event officials. Regardless of the chosen apparatus, Athletes may only throw it with one hand, from a standing position, with three attempts to throw the weight over the bar at that height. All competitors that clear a given height will advance to the next height until only one athlete remains. For the purpose of unnecessary complication ("Tradition") Distance is measured in standard Tachbean FEET.

Participants race down a 200-yard-long hill after a round of Vilitan Mountain cheese. The first to catch the cheese is the winner. Subsequent positions will be judged based on order crossing the 200 yard marker at the bottom of the hill. This event is sponsored by Cocoa-bo Eatery of Turori. The winner will be able to keep the wheel of Vilitan Mountain Cheese as their prize in addition to a years supply of Cocoa-bo Beverages from any participating Cocoa-bo location (one per day). All participants receive a one-time use coupon for free Cocoa-bo for themselves and a guest. There will also be three Chocolate Cocoa-bo eggs placed on the course one of which will also award free Cocoa-bo for a year with the remaining too containing great money saving coupons. Contestants may opt to aim for the eggs in lieu of or in addition to their pursuit of the cheese wheel. Only the participant who gets the cheese first will be noted in the final results with others displayed in their time to the line at the bottom of the hill marked from the release of the cheese. It is likely that the cheese will be first to the line but competitors must still attempt to chase the cheese at the bottom of the hill in order to win.

“I did not get cheese”, Hafþór Bellybutton was sitting in the grass, a gold medal around his neck, sobbing, big drips of water and snot falling from his nose.

“But you won the HEAVY ATHLETICS. You will be a hero in Kriegiersien!”, said Garonka.

“But I wanted cheese..”

“Good that he doesn’t know about the Cocoa-bo coupon for winning the Cheese rolling”, whispered Sheera.

“Shhhh. At least you didn’t try to eat the winner together with the cheese”, Garonka tapped the ogre on the back.

“You told me to not.”

“If you hadn’t tried to snatch the Cocoa-bo eggs, you would have been maybe faster”, sniggered Sheera.

“Yeah, but look, you got another coupon for that, you get money for it. That can buy food. No, don’t eat the coupon”, said Garonka, taking the coupon out of his mouth again.

“And when you come home, the President surely will fulfil a wish of yours for winning the Heavy Athletics.”

The ogre wiped off his tears and started smiling.
“Maybe.. house out of cheese?”

Sir Dagobert looked at the remaining lances.

“Hm. This ones have to be modified. Carve them a bit lighter.”

“Yes, Sire”, mumbled his squire.

“Nice start in the jousting”, said Cassandra Bendragon, standing suddenly behind him with a giant pot in her arms.

“Oh, hello. What is the pot for?”

“I am bringing it to our cook, she wanted to prepare a great feast to celebrate the victory of the ogre. Are you coming, too?”

“Of course, I just have to train a bit with my horse beforehand.”

“Fine. I heard your next opponent is from Equestria?”

“Yes, he is participating in many contests here. But he is not a knight. An adventurer and wayfarer maybe. But jousting is not his profession. I must beat him.”

“He can roll down a hill pretty fast, you can give him that.”

“I wonder if he will ride on pony into the fight?”

Alexa looked out of her tent, watching Ed Sharp juggling with three chainsaws in front of his sales booth he had erected in front of his tent, trying to sell things from his Big Ed Sharp’s Chainsaw Emporium.

“Do we go to the party tonight?”, she asked.

“I go, you have to prepare for the next round in Kleptochase”, said her brother.

“Life is not fair”, grumbled Alexa.

“Yes, you had to make a qualification round. And then there is a Multiverse Quarterfinal with Milchama and when you win this, another final for the World Cup with the Winner of the AO Competition, with Milchama having a further participant in it. Really fuzzy.”

“Yeah, that too”, Alexa shook her head.
“Bring me something of the better food this time. No maggots in green sauce or such things.”

“I’ll see what I can do. What do you know about Zwangzug?”

“This strawberry who plays chess, Dr. Schimmel, told me that this is a chess term written wrong.”

“No, I mean their participant for Kleptochase. Melinda Reise-Thrule.”

“I am still working on it.”

“Ok, so I am getting further ingredients for the luck potion, while you study you opponent and watch over the potion not getting bad”, Mysteriou said and vanished.

“And how do I do both things while being here?”, she asked after him.
She sighed, looked at the potion bubbling away and then started reading books about gnomes and mazes.

With his feet solely on the grounds of the jousting arena, a squire faced his audience, ready to introduce Major-General Marcus Clarkson's opponent for the first round of the Vilita Mountain Games.

"Dearest viewers of combat, dearest enjoyers of chivalry, Major-General Clarkson's opponent has taken his horse to the roads of old villages and townhouses and rode it all the way to the Vilitan Mountains, riding his way in search of a challenge, something to prove his worth as the most honorary knight in all of the land of Sonnel!"

Waiting on horseback, "Sir" Little Exnash adjusts his armor, glittering purple and all, glancing at the horse of his West Phoencian opponent and giving it a squint. Oh it was on.

"He hails from the rodeos of Chartistan and has tangled with the best there was in the region, earning victory after victory to earn his pride and fame! Past the Knight Corps with ease, breaking lances in Juvencus, and, seven short weeks before, took Sevendia on a seven-filled crash course! So, without further ado, let me introduce thee to the honorable Sir Little Exnash!"

Cheers erupted from the crowds before the trumpets played.

Dun du-du-du-dun dun dun du-du-du dun dun dun-du-du-du dun dun dunnnnnnnnnn....

With his helmet on, Sir Little Exnash rode into the arena, lance and all, his brown horse galloping to his assigned position. This was his first real joust, but hey, the fake introduction kiiiinda sold everything to the fans. Now it was time for the real test - A joust with a real person.

Upon the signal to start the first bout, Exnash and Clarkson charged up, lances ready to go. Each of their horses rumbled through, each little jolt making things hard for the combatants to aim straight. Then, contact, Clarkson's lance broke, but not up to the pennant as he had hoped. For Exnash... Tis but a touch.

Run 2 set foot, and the roles were reversed. Clarkson could only get a touch on his competitor, while Exnash struck for real with a lance break, above the pennant like Clarkson in Round 1. The scores were 3-3, and the pressure from both competitors was on. Something had to give for run 3.

With the knights getting closer and closer, Exnash got ready to deal a blow, his lance, along with Clarkson's, exploding into bits as impact set on their armor. But once it all calmed down, there was a winner. Exnash's lance broke below the pennant. Clarkson's? Right above it. There was a victor.

His name was Sir Little Exnash. He'll run from nothing.

VMG: Joust 2

Postby Belnegau » Wed Jan 26, 2022 9:54 pm

"Marshall!"

The resonant voice of Wulfstan the Yodeler carried easily across the jousting grounds.

"Marshall! Captain! Master-at-Arms! Whatever he who commands here calls himself! Come at once!"

After some time, a harried-looking official appeared with a clipboard, garish blazer, and a pair of stained dress shoes totally unsuited for the patchy grass underfoot.

"Marshall, good of you to come. There has been some mistake, you must set this to rights."

"I'm not sure I understand, what seems to be the trouble?"

"The trouble? Yes, trouble indeed Marshall. Can you not see for yourself? A child stands in the lists. I cannot tilt against such an opponent. Most irregular, dishonorable. My opponent was to be one Ogot Ogola, he must be fetched immediately to put an end to this jest."

The official examined a few papers on their clipboard, a task made more difficult by the wind whipping at the papers there.

"I'm sorry for the confusion Mr. Yodeler, er, Mr. Wulfstan. Sir Wulfstan?"

"Ritter Wulfstan."

"Ah, yes Ritter Wulfstan. My apologies, but that is your opponent."

"What did you say, man?"

"That is Ogot Ogola."

"Truly?"

"Truly."

"May God have mercy on his soul."

Wilthrop Barrington Pemberwell (the third he would tell you) was facing down his opponent. He had somehow not been among the 8 competitors to get a bye through superior dressage and was forced to be in the humiliating position of actually having to compete in the partial double octofinal. Pemberwell, however, was ready to go and waited for his opponent. He had done some early scouting and saw that his opponent, from the confusingly named HaAkademia Shel Krav was not from a nation. Every other competitor was from a nation. Moreover, when his opponent removed his helmet he looked a shockingly large amount like Tripp Worthington, the number 2 jouster in Milchama. Wilthrop had half a mind to shout "Tripp!" at his competitive rival but general friend but just because somebody looked like Tripp Worthington did not mean that they were in fact Tripp Worthington.

And whether it was Tripp Worthington or not Wilthrop Barrington Pemberwell had to win to secure the reputation for Milchama. So far in two competitions in the Vilitan War Games Milchama had not lost a single competition with 2 gold medals. More importantly, kleptochase was on the agenda and with Milchama as the defending champion that left him in jousting as the only one not either currently a world champion (or at least AO champion) or a defending champion. But still, that guy looked waaaaay to suspiciously like Tripp and Wilthrop Barrington Pemberwell was not one to not greet an old friend that would be an offense of his honor. So, of course, if nothing else he might unsettle his opponent, he said, "Hey Tripp!"

To his surprise his opponent responded, "Hey Wil!" So wait, oh my god! It was Tripp Worthington! Why was Tripp not representing Milchama? What the hell was the HaAkademia Shel Krav? And, most importantly, what was going on? All those questions, however, had to wait as Wilthrop Barrington Pemberwell got ready to joust one of his best friends for a spot in the octofinals in the Vilitan War Games...

A single lumberjack will compete across five Timbersports events for the Tiones Belt, awarded to the overall champion of the Lumberjack Competition at the Vilitan Mountain Games. All athletes are considered equal regardless of gender, species or origin. This event is sponsored by the Tiones Lumber Company.

The Standing Block Chop is one of the most popular events in timbersports, which consists of a competitor trying to cut through a block of wood in the fastest time. This event is designed to mimic the ability for an axeman to fell a 12 inch pine tree in the fastest possible time with the least number of axe swings. It requires a combination of power and accuracy with every strike.

All competitors are given a randomly selected piece of white pine that has a diameter of 12 inches. This is secured in a vertical stand and supported with spikes. It is the responsibility of the competitor to ensure their block is secured properly. The competitors then draw their targets onto the front and back of the wood – called a scarf. The position of the scarf is set by the axeman based on their own personal preferences and strategy. When the buzzer sounds the clock begins and stops when the block is severed.

A Bunch of Tools have stepped forward as the presenting sponsor of the upcoming Kleptochase competition at the Vilitan Mountain Games that will also serve as the return of the Kleptochase World Championships where Chasers will compete for the Art-Bob Trophy named after the original grandmaster of Kleptochase, Az-Czzer Art-Bob. [- Read about the Origins of Kleptochase and how the Maze Running, Lock Picking sport is played Here -]

The Klepto Super Chase event at the Vilitan Mountain games will feature four different courses - a Sprint Course, a Strength Course, a Technique Course and a Maze Course. Competitors will be randomly drawn to a course for each elimination matchup. Due to the random draw, a competitor may be drawn to compete on a course type that does not favor their own abilities and instead favors the abilities of their opponent. No time for complaining, the Chase is on better try to catch that target object before your opponent does and bring it back to the goal.

Image
Kleptochase is a sporting event that could be described as akin to maze- running. Each match features two individuals. They each start at points in a constructed grid. Somewhere else in the grid, equidistant from both chasers there is some object, usually an action figure sized stuffed toy in the shape of a gnome. Each chaser has a goal point somewhere else in the grid, again equidistant from the target object. The object of the match is to gather the object and return it to your target area (WIN). After one team has gathered the object they become the "thief" and the other chaser becomes the "law". If the law is able to touch the thief with both hands before the thief returns to his goal area, they replay the match (DRAW). If the law catches the thief in three consecutive matches they play a fourth match that ends when the first player reaches the object. Every course has a certain number, no fewer than 2, of locked doors, traps and other obstacles. These obstacles are defeated using theif-like skills, especially lock-picking.

All tools for the event will be provided by A Bunch of Tools. Milchama's Screider Martin is the most recent recognized champion of Kleptochase, having earned their victory in the NSKCC in a narrow victory over Rii Klenh of Tocapa.

The fireball exploded, then vanished, like time rewound. The fire show ended, and sparks fell down on Sheera, raising from a split. She bowed low to all sides.

“That was amazing”, shouted the squire of Sir Dagobert during the cheers of the other spectators.

“Hm, I think it missed heart and spirit”, said Ed Sharp next to him.

“What? That was … so explosive, graceful, athletice...”

“Yeah, but I … I didn’t feel it, the spark has not jumped over. Too calculated. See, the jury is with me.”

“6.75. I think that is pretty good.”

“But not great, that is not enough for a Top placement. It is not sufficient to just bring your knowledge, art and element into the competition. You also have to feel it, to be it, to be able to show your full potential.. Oh, what the...”

Suddenly Sir Dagobert was stumbling into the centre of the arena, in full armour, but without helmet. He took a gulp from a bottle, he then dropped and starred at the contestants of the Fire Dance who were nearby.

“You…”, he screamed, his eyes red and wide.
“Where is this Doug...where?”
He looked frantically around, wiping rests of something from his moustache.
“Or any other of the great warriors? From Zwangzug? Milchima? Graentover… “, he shook his head.
“Show yourself and face me in real battle!”

He drew a long stick from his side, waving it around.

“It think he hasn’t taken the loss in jousting that good”, suspected Ed while the Squire sighed.
“At least he has forgotten his sword again. He wouldn’t find anything without me.”

“Face me. Are you all cowards? Isn’t there anyone capable to challenge a veteran? I have no horse. Battle on the ground, whatever weapon you want. No matter which…”, Sir Dagobert fell on his knees, sobbing.

“I have fought more fights than most of you have seen. Fought monsters you couldn’t imagine”, the old man dropped down to the ground.

“I think we better bring him to his tent. Could you help me?”, asked the squire Ed.
“Sure.”

Together with Sheera they approached the fallen old man, lying face on the ground, wheezing. Ed took him over his shoulder with ease, despite the armour.

“Pretty light”, he said.

“I was a big hero once”, mumbled the fallen, aged knight.

Sir Doug, it is incredible that thee have the courage to take on the Mountain Games all by yourself. Such courage is incredible from one lone human being. Unfortunately, your time has run out in the jousting circuit.

Earning joint-silver in the Fire Dance and getting close to snagging the cheese is one thing. Getting to be one of the last 8 competitors in the Joust is another thing entirely.

Going for 6 runs with Sir Dagobert is a sign of weakness. You cannot go 3 rounds against me, surely. Consider your time here done.

If you do beat me, though... Consider yourself lucky. You'd be a noble one, that's for sure.

Zheng Caori’dush had spent a lot of time on the jousting circuit back home in Gyatso-kai, attending more festivals than she could even remember. It was a surprising thing, the love of the Avatarian people for what most people of the multi-verse would call “medieval faires”. For the people of Gyatso-kai, the events were often called “fantasy festivals” and would allow visitors to step into the fantasy realms of media powerhouses like Norsemen, Master of the Circlets, Tournament of Cathedras, or whatever style of film or novel they enjoyed. People would come out to a fairground, dressed in various costumes, drinking and eating while watching themed events like live chessboards, performance acts, live music, and of course, jousting.

And that is where Zheng made her living…

Sure, she was only twenty-eight years old, but she had been in this lifestyle since she was born. Her father, Zheng Lao, started a jousting company known as ‘Phoenix Arms” back in the early 80s when these festivals started to take off. He had performed at a few smaller shows in the Southern Mandalorian Islands for about ten years until he finally got to travel, which was right when Zheng was born to Lao and his wife, Caomai. It was an exciting childhood for the youngster who would go on to earn the nickname “The Crimson Nightmare” on account of her ferocity and her desire to always play ‘the villian’ in jousting troupes she joined.

Of course… Troupes could only get you so far…. Eventually you had to join the real deal.

There was not exactly a profession jousting circuit for Zheng to hone her skills, however, there were seven jousting troupes in the Republics, and every few months, whenever there was a lull in between faires and travel would permit, the Heads of the Troupes – collectively called the “Grand Masters” – would get on the phone with one another and plan a tournament. No scripts, no show, just competition to see who was in fact the greatest jouster in Gyatso-kai.

Zheng came out on top quite frequently.

And now, here she was, the two nights before the Quaterfinals match, polishing her armor after having spent the day caring for Akaan’cu and running him through his paces and caring for him. So many of the other ‘knights’ as they were called had squires and assistants to help with the care, but for Zheng… there was only herself and a state-sponsored veterinarian who went along to watch the event. Some back in Republic City in the National Sports Council did not want jousting to catch on back home, for fear of animal abuse or risk of injury to the horses. Despite Zheng and her father and the testimony of over a hundred jousters from across the Republics, the Chair of Experimental Sports – one Chen Yating – demanded to know for certain if any of the beasts were injured during the Mountain Games.

Akaan’cu won’t get hurt… he never has.

As she set her chestplate down and stood, she reached over for her phone. She was friends with a few of the other competitors, mostly thanks to time spent together at the initial conferences for the delegation and staying in the same housing complex for the tournament, and she figured a quick group chat might find her some company for the night…. Just someone to talk to and take her mind of the tournament. The Avatarian Delegation had not exactly done too well so far in most of their events – currently thirteenth in the Lumberjack events, finished sixth in Heavy Athletics, tenth in Accuracy Spear Throwing, and tenth in Fire Dancing – though they had done exceptionally well in Distance Spear Throwing, earning Silver, and were currently in first place in the Strongman competition. Zheng had spent a few nights up texting and talking with Dral’wuir Kurshok of the Strongman competition, and he had proven to be quite the ‘distraction’ so far. He was the Ruus’alor of his Clan – the second highest position after the Alor, and for Zheng who, while steeped in Mandalorian culture and was not a formal member of a Mandalorian clan thanks to her mother disowning her heritage and her father being from the Earth Kingdom, she loved the time she spent with what was essentially Mando Royalty. Sure, she attended Mandalorian events, wore Mandalorian armor, and considered herself to live by the Resol’nare, but really… she had no House, no Clan, and the Family her mother was registered with did not count her on the scrolls for active membership.

But Kurshok… He WAS a Mandalorian.

The man stood over 200 centimeters in height, and surprisingly fit well inside of his beskar’gam despite almost toppling 200 kilograms. His armor, a deep steel color with forest green accents, almost begged for attention from Zheng, whose armor of red and black was far more showy and looked less like the battle-harden armor of someone who lived in theirs. She always had a thing for darker armor, but as someone in ‘show business’, steel was not exactly a crowd-pleaser of a color. The red and black stood out on the ‘battlefield’ and made for more visible actions against a background that was often dirt and trees and forestry. Dral’wuir spoke a broken form of Avatarian – thanks in part to growing up and living in a small isolated community that almost exclusively spoke Mando’a – and thankfully for him, Zheng and a few others in the Mountian Games Delegation spoke fluent Mando’a.

And what a rich accent he had when he spoke…

Zheng knew he’d be awake, and knew he’d be hungry, so she sent him a quick text:

Code: Select all
Si dar’nuhoy? Copaani epar?

Just as she was about to close her phone, the notification light flashed. She swiped across it, and sure enough, the big Mando’a had replied almost instantly.

Code: Select all
Ni nu’draar epar… Par skraan bal nuhur, orgi’olar >.o

‘Never not hungry… for food and fun, either or’... cocky shabuir thinks he can say that…

”Guess I better go to his room,” Zheng said, outloud and to no one in particular. Good thing neither of them competed in the morning. Meant they could stay up late and not worry about sleeping in through any meetings.

Wonder what we’ll do first…. Eating? Or ‘fun’?

"Yes, yes, oh my God yes!" The cries of Jack Porle can be heard for miles all around, following his impressive performances in the two "weight" categories, getting third in the distance competition and second in the height competition - scores good enough that he medalled for Heavy Athletics. Tying for Bronze with the Vilitan Heavy Athletics competitor, Liita Jens, the entirety of Morover is so immensely proud at their first international medal - and Jack Porle, no doubt under heavy pressure from the New Regime, sighed with relief following his performance.

"I'm just, I'm so - holy fucking shit, I ACTUALLY DID IT! I mean, when they - when I was approached. Let me be clear, when I was talked to about this, this thing - I mean, this competition. I just - WOW! Not bad, you ugly bit- I mean, the government is just so great, isn't it? The new one, I mean. I saw enough of the old one, I mean, I saw it, I did. I can't believe I just got the bronze! Did you know I have no experience with this? I just went out there and did it. This is incredible!" This rant went on for about six more minutes.

Other sports stories this week:
Shain Grewfer, disgraced CEO of Grewfer Cheese Enterprises, performed disappointingly in the cheese roll. The dairy dream is dead, as he came in fifth. Not only did he fall short of his promise to achieve second place, but he also came nowhere close. It seems as though GCE will be shut down for the foreseeable future.

Natalia Purrat once more gives an impressive performance, tying with West Phoenician competitor Apis for fourth place. She stands in fifth place in the overall standings.

Morovian Henry Muri wins a jousting match against Fecker Alberto Mars, and subsequently lost against Darmeni Dex Kavanagh. He got further than expected.

The mysterious Slicer once more gives a stunning performance, though many expected his chopping result to surpass his axe throw result - Kriegiersien Big Ed Sharp beat The Slicer, dissuading public belief in potential extraterrestrial or paranormal exploits within The Slicer, and slightly worrying the general public about the odds of The Slicer's success in bringing home the gold. Currently, The Slicer is tied for first place overall with Kriegiersien Sharp.

Former Potentate and husband of Brooklyn Shea, Farrow Muri, performs dismally in the Fire Dance. He has not been seen since, and many fans of the former leader have concerns for his wellbeing.
