What is the most common natural disaster in your nation?

Postby Arpasia » Mon Jan 17, 2022 3:55 am

This topic is about Natural Disasters! or more specifically, what type of natural disaster that your nation experiences the most!

I'll begin from here.
The most common type of natural disaster that happens in Arpasia is Flooding, Wildfire and Tornadoes. Floods usually happen after winter, where the snow melts and goes into the low-lying regions near the coast, where most cities lie. The longest flood that ever happened here was in 1897, in the city of Pontchartrain, the 5th largest in all of Arpasia, the floodwater receded very slowly, and completely drained from the city after 2.5 months. As for the most destructive and most recent tornado in Arpasia was "Big Brother" Which tore through farmland and suburbs in southern Arpasia in late 2021.

Bushfires are the most commonly occuring natural disasters in the Commonwealth across the majority of its territory, followed closely by other heat-related disasters (heatwaves and droughts) and tropic disasters (such as flooding, tropical storms, and cyclones). The climates of much of the Commonwealth are prone to weather extremes to the point that some endemic flora and fauna have adapted to rely on disasters for propagation and regeneration. Whilst heat-related disasters can be somewhat controlled and mitigated (such as through controlled burns and water restrictions), tropical disasters are far less manageable and usually necessitate shelter and evacuation, outside of what flooding can be mitigated through watercourse infrastructure.

Cyclone Mahina, which hit the present-day state of Capricornia in 1899, was the most directly deadly natural disaster in recorded Australic history, with approximately 400 deaths, largely maritime, attributed to it. In the past century, whilst bushfires and related disasters have been more common, cyclones and tropical flooding have continued to be far more deadly to humans.

The most deadly bushfires in recorded Australic history, known commonly and collectively as the Black Thursday Infernos, occured in 1919, with 76 deaths recorded over a period of five days in a spate of fires across the nation. At least one of the fires is speculated to have been accidental, whilst the remainder are considered to have been naturally occurring and thus true natural disasters.

1. Blizzards. The Northern part of Utquiagvik is very cold, and Blizzards are common during the winter. Luckily, Utquiagvik is well prepared for Blizzards, so these usually aren't that big of a deal.
2. Tornadoes. Utquiagvik has a Tornado Alley, which contains parts of the states of North Alaska, South Alaska, North Yukon and South Yukon. Tornadoes are very frequent in these areas, although they are usually very minor.
3. Earthquakes. As parts of Utquiagvik sit on the Pacific Ring Of Fire, Earthquakes in The State Of South Alaska are not uncommon to hear about. They also occur up into the Northern Parts of the country ocasionally.

The most common disaster in Cannonio is earthquakes and floods. Earthquakes because it is in the middle of 2 the tectonic fields, and floods, are caused by a variety of different reasons. Droughts also happen, but usually in the inland regions as the coast has many ways to turn salty water into pure water.
Named after cannons, Cannonio has a long history. You should like the detail put into it.

1. Monsoon season brings a tremendous amount of flood damage and is the deadliest of natural disasters plaguing Safiloa. On top of the water damage, mudslides, and general hygiene issues, mosquito populations explode after flooding, contributing to the spread of various transmittable diseases, including the dreaded and endemic Sopoto disease, which is one of Safiloa's biggest killers.
2. Heatwaves during the dry season contribute to electrical and agricultural damage and can cause heatstroke among the elderly. The dry season in the past has meant famine, drought, and bushfires.
3. Thunderstorms in Safiloa can reach hurricane levels of wind speeds and can happen anytime in the year.
4. A few islands in Safiloa have active volcanoes, which can erupt. Mortalities due to eruption recently have been low though.
5. Earthquakes and tremors aren't commonly destructive or deadly in Safiloa, but they are frequent enough to cause problems and there are theoretical concerns of a big one in the future.
6. Tornadic waterspouts are common in the middle of the dry season, and do not usually come close to the sure.
7. The most unusual natural disaster in Safiloa, is the pollination of Huakhuak tree ferns. The pollen from these trees has the ability to create mass short terms illusions in human populations that live near them. This pollination event only occurs once every 7 to 9 years and only lasts 2 to 3 days, but it does contribute to occasional damages to public property as well as streetfighting.

Postby The Emnian Realm » Mon Jan 17, 2022 2:03 pm

Three of the most common and highest risk natural conditions in Emnia are Flooding, Extreme Winter, and Fire.

Flooding is a major concern in much of Emnia, and includes floods caused by snowmelt runoff, freshet flooding, ice jams, and high groundwater levels. Flooding along the River Thoibhronn and its tributaries tends to be most frequent in the spring when rainfall and snowmelt add to their volume, but is known to take place in the summer as well, when low-lying urbanised areas are prone to flash floods.

Extreme winter conditions can occur anywhere in Emnia due to its northerly latitude, but is particularly common in the East and North of the country.

Fires are a pervasive risk in such a heavily forested country, and fires are becoming increasingly common and powerful due to climate change.

Tsunamis: Due to being near countries like Japan and the Philippines where events like this are common, Duotona is very often caught up in it. Happening near to the South West of the island. This is caused by underwater earthquakes or eruptions that can happen all over the Pacific. Often leads to hefty damage to people within the immediate area.

Tropical Cyclones: Also occurring predominantly within the South West, tropical cyclones are often not that severe, and are mostly just the aftermath of ones that did happen near to Australia and other countries within Oceania. Can often lead to high rainfall, which may halt transportation like trains and roads.

Blizzards: Yes, Duotona has a mountain range to the north, and therefore that area is prone to blizzards. Caused by intense snowfall during the winter months, it can make getting supplies from the rest of the islands to areas like Muont extra tough.

The most damaging in recorded history occurred in 1931, that being Tsunami Norman. It killed about 50 people, injured 220, and another 10 went missing during the events and have still never been recovered.

But if where being serious it would have to be Typhoons.

Tropical cyclones are the most common natural disaster that affect Yucatan. These usually peak from July to October with the country seeing an average of five cyclones per year, major cyclones are rare.

The nation also experiences volcanic eruptions and earthquakes as it is on the crosshairs of major tectonic plates. Events of these kind are rare, although are severe whenever they happen, prompting structural reforms every five years.

Yucatan's location also makes the country vulnerable to thunderstorms that may happen anytime throughout the year.

Chuying although protected by much larger islands and reefs in its region, still suffers from oceanic related disasters like flooding, typhoons, and tsunamis as well as earthquakes on the coast. The government even has a ministry dedicated to emergencies that only operates in prevention, response, and aftermath situations. They have taken to building sea walls in low lying coastal areas, enforcing a strict code on all residential and commercial buildings to withstand typhoons and floods up to Level 3, having monthly tsunami drills, as well as placing buoys and utilizing radar on navy vessels offshore to monitor for any erratic weather or events that may cause a natural disaster prior to making landfall in Chuying's shores.

There’s not really a lot that happens on our island, cold and rainy. Thunderstorms and severe lightning strikes would probably be the most common. After that is Tsunami or hurricanes maybe, but we’re pretty far south. For the most part these disasters don’t bother us much outside of the lightning, we still don’t have a way of truly harvesting that amount of energy efficiently, so some strikes can potentially overload the power grid, cause heat damage, and more importantly: cause brownouts/blackouts.

As a nation of machines, we really don’t do well without power for too long. Thankfully we’re stable enough to get the lights back on and batteries charged before too long.

Forest/bush fires and minor flooding are the most common natural disasters in Grussland. However, tremors and minor earthquakes are becoming more common, with a man-made cause being the theory behind them.

-Forest and bush fires are common in the late summer and early fall, when thunderstorms and lightning strikes are common. Given the sheer amount of untouched wilderness in Grussland, this is no real surprise. Mitigation strategies include firebreaks, a fleet of firefighting planes and helicopters, and a large forest and parks service with a good number of firewatch stations.

-Flooding typically occurs in the spring as uphill streams and rivers swell with meltwaters. While dams and dykes exist to mitigate these waters, some random flooding occurs. Flooded basements happen frequently in some areas.

-The uptick in tremors and minor earthquakes is believed to be caused by fracking and geothermal energy projects creating hollows in otherwise stable bedrock and sedimentary layers. New project approvals have been suspended pending further studies.

Doesn't represent my views. Mostly me asking... what if East Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, etc had not gone down the neo-con crash capitalist route, and instituted people-oriented reforms instead?

probably avalanche. we are mostly very mountainous and high elevation.

'natural' disasters are uncommon dispite this because wherever we build, we build in such a way as to withstand whatever natural extremes may happen there.
on floodplanes we build on floats that are confined horizontally without being confined virtically.
dangerous wind conditions we build underground or at least earth bermed.
and so on. in avalanche risk places we build mostly underground plus in ways that let the slides pass over harmlessly.

of course nothing can prevent injury to someone outside when it happens.

where infrastructure would be disrupted by them, there are protective measures taken to protect it too,
such as cannons to knock down snow ridges, and the snow sheds and tunnels into the sides of mountains,
like the kind of housing there, to let the slides pass harmlessly over.

where possible of course, we try to avoid building in the path of any,
but where doing so cannot be avoided, then we build accordingly.

one of the reasons we have fewer building codes otherwise, is to avoid preventing people from doing so,
by making construction to standardized in ways the do not respect the diversity of natural conditions and localized extremes.
truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.

Due to the usage of heavy construction equipment often and the demolition of the constant rainforests, dust is often lifted with land mines and the equipment, and the heat of the fires would cause constant dust devils and dust storms, which causes heavy damage to crops and buildings.

Heavy Snow/hailstorms are the major perennial weather threat to most of the Country, however, there are several regions of tectonic activity in the nation's borders, especially affecting the Caucasus and Central Asian Regions, where the Arabian and Indian Plates collide with the Eurasian, causing Earthquakes, as well as The Far East and Alaska, where The Subduction of the Pacific Plate shortly offshore causes the triple threat of Earthquakes, Tsunamis, and Volcanoes.

In dry years, some of the forests are also prone to firestorm.

Because of the country's position on the edge of continental plates, the country is very prone to earthquakes. Other than that, large avalanches are very common throughout the mountainous parts of the country (particularly in the northernmost regions) that would sometimes swallow a whole village and kill hundreds of people. Heavy snowstorm are also common in this region.

Failure to Worship Kong Qingdong

Various lunar colonies have reported strikes from meteorites. This is attributed to recent attempts to harvest resources from gas giants, apparently rendering them less capable of attracting meteorites and thus leaving other worlds within those star systems vulnerable.

This public relations official cannot confirm or deny those rumors. B-but of course nothing could possibly go wrong within the Cultured Imperial Utopia and obviously natural disasters would never exist here! Surely people are just being imaginative when describing mudslides and earthquakes and volcanoes. Praise Kong Qingdong!
