Kalosian girl group to perform at the XV Olympics Opening Ceremony

SOMER, ELECTRUM—The Kalosian girl group Montereu have arrived in Somer, Electrum, in preparation for the Opening Ceremony of the Games of the XV Olympiad. The Games are being held in the next couple of weeks across a few different cities along the Terranean Coast, Electrum.

The girls are previously known internationally largely for their participation in the 66th WorldVision Song Contest in Britonisea, where they came 6th with the song L'amurë Rušmoresë, a bubbly pop ode to romance in the region of Rushmore. The performance was memorable for a backing dancer who, at some point in the song, 'proposed' to an audience member holding the Rushmori regional flag.

For the upcoming performance, they will sing a version of that song translated into English, titled 'Rushmori Love'. The lyrics have been updated as well, both to reflect geopolitical developments and to appeal to the nations participating in the Games—whereas the original version mentions Saviera, Taeshan, and the Imperial Lodge, the former is now considered part of Novapax whereas the latter two do not appear to be sending athletes to the Games (at least not to the awareness of the lyricists).

Additionally, the girls are currently known domestically as the artists behind the official song of Team Kalosia at this year's Games. The song, titled Lë meľor ('The best'), is an uplifting, summery pop song meant to motivate not only the athletes flying our flag at the Games, but also to inspire the citizens of Kalosia to be more active, physically, and to become the best versions of themselves. An instrumental orchestral version of this song, recorded by the Kalosian Philharmonic Orchestra, will serve as the theme music for Radiu-Televižio Kalosia's coverage of the Games.

For the Opening Ceremony, Montereu will also perform the English version of this song, titled 'Capture the Flag'. With these two performances, the girls hope to captivate audiences across the multiverse. Their management expressed hopes that their performance of 'Rushmori Love' in particular will attract the attention of Rushmori audiences, and noted that the song was chosen due to the fact that the Games is taking place within the region. As Kalosia is located just southwest off the coast of Electrum, it made sense for there to be a cultural performance showcasing the identity of the region to the multiversal audience.

Mouse Romance New Album Release Press Party

Yesterday, NovkoFal Records held a press party for the release of famous Dašenko-based alternate rock band Mouse Romance's new album, titled "Cheers To The Living, And Cheers To Our Friends" (original title in Parenese: "Do Zdrvje Živejov, I Do Zdrvje Naš Prijtlov"). The party included a warmup band who gave us a throwback to Mouse Romance's early discography with covers of their two first albums, their first self-titled album, and their second album "Thrice Hallelujah!" ("Trikrut Halelujá!"). After this comforting blast from the past, with a little twist from the local band's style, the hosts of the party finally went on stage and put on a full performance of their yet unreleased album, but not before paying tribute to Vladj Jordnski, the band's legendary former drummer, who died while recording the album.

Following the unconventional album unveiling ceremony, which was more akin to a press-only concert rather than the press party that we were convinced it will be, the band's lead singer and songwriter Gregorj Način lead the line of questions and answers asked by the reporters present. Our Arts & Music reporter, Aleksá Kolkočevski, managed to ask Gregorj a few questions.

How was the recording process for you and the rest of the band?

When we started recording in 2018, I knew that this process will be great and enlightening, but I could've never guessed exactly how enlightening it will actually end up being. There were many hurdles along the way, but I feel like we managed to create something real here.

How did Vladj's death affect the band members and the recording process?

Well obviously it completely derailed and delayed the process, as we all fell into immeasurable grief. Vladj was with us from the beginning, and he will stay with us until the end. I think that Alj (the band's bassist and youngest member) was hit the hardest by the grief, as they were very close, and as a fellow Christian and close friend of Vladj's family he took the longest time to let himself grieve in peace.

How did you decide on the new drummer, Jakob Vinočov, and how is his chemistry with the band?

We knew Jaki for a long time before Vladj passed away, he even features in our song All The Way ("Vcé Pat") as second drummer, and many of our fans were theorizing and debating whether there was a second drummer or if Vladj is just that good. Anyway, when we got back to the recording process, we reached out to Jaki as we all thought he was the best option and who Vladj would've wanted to continue his legacy.

NovkoFal Records have stated that the album will be available in record stores across Drejveška and on iTunes and Spotify starting Saturday, and that there are plans for a Mouse Romance Drejveškan tour during the fall.

Neubert gives Lewińsky and his brothers 72 hours to surrender themselves to the Hague

Hereward Bacon, DW Correspondant
Aug. 27, 2021; Berlin, Germany

Reichskanzler Klemens Neubert gave Korneliusz Lewińsky and his brothers 72 hours to form a transitional civilian government in Poland, dissolve the military state and surrender themselves to the World Court at Hague or face direct invasion by 'Germany and her allies' at a time of their choosing.

In a televised address to the nation, Mr. Neubert urged the Polish soldiers not to fight for an "illegitimate regime" and said that they would be given instructions on what to do to avoid being 'utterly and ruthlessly destroyed'. The Polish regime has not yet responded to the demands delivered to the Polish government through the German Embassy, though the Imperial Government said it 'does not expect Lewińsky to heed the ultimatum. In effect, the Chancellor's 12-minute televised address to the nation from the steps of the Stadtschloss in Berlin is a declaration of war which is likely to come within 36 hours three days hence.

"Korneliusz Lewińsky, Iwan Lewińsky and Klaudius Lewińsky must within the next 72 hours abdicate from all public office in Poland. The Polish Military State must be dissolved and civilian governance returned, and the three named must surrender themselves to the World Court at Hague to be tried and sentenced accordingly. Their refusal to meet our demands in a timely fashion will result in the Polish State's wholesale debellation by German Empire and her allies, commenced at a time of our choosing." the Chancellor said. He warned 'German and European residents, including journalists and diplomats' to leave immediately.

The Chancellor also warned that any retaliatory action taken against the Polish armed opposition, as well as any use of chemical or biological weaponry would result in a similar response by the Allied Command, and that all Polish commanding officers will be summarily executed if otherwise. As the final countdown to war begins, Forum of Nations monitors on the Polish borders with Germany, Lithuania and Ruthenia have left their observation posts between Poland's 600,000-man strong army and a gathering force of 200,000 German and 85,000 Allied troops supported by three German aircraft carriers and more than 200 combat aircraft.

The Netherlands, Denmark-Norway and Britannia -Germany's principal allies in the North Sea Alliance- have all voiced their support for the military action, with Britannia redeploying the King's Own German Legion from China where it currently garrisons Occupied Shandong to bolster the airship HMAS Dreadnaught and 4th Regiment of Carbiniers which are stationed in Lithuania right now. Germany, Lithuania, Ruthenia, Denmark-Norway, the Netherlands and France have began amassing troops at the borders with Poland. Though Hungary has claimed neutrality, it has also called for full mobilisation.

The Lewińsky regime, headed by Korneliusz Lewińsky though his brothers Iwan and Kladius also hold high ranks, came into power following the August 2011 Military Coup in Poland that overthrew the Polish Monarchy. Throughout the next 9 years, the military state claimed that it was only a 'transitionary government' and that demilitarisation, civilian rule and a return to democracy was 'imminent'. The Forum of Nations' General Assembly voted to rescind Poland's membership on July 2018 while the European Confederation put an embargo (August 2018), naval blockade (November 2018) and No-Fly Zone (March 2019) on the Polish regime, with Lewińsky and 17 other Polish officials -his two brothers included- were declared persona non grata by most Forum of Nations members by January 2021. Since August of this year Lewińsky has had a bounty of $125,000,000 by the World Court "alive or dead".

Governor of Macau Resigns, Flees Macau Amidst Corruption Scandal
Mica Lam | 9 September 2021

MACAU, Mo. - Governor of Macau Fernando Tsui has resigned from his post amidst the corruption scandal, after Nacrad's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has summoned him to the Riverfort office for the investigation of the scandal with a time limit of 48 hours. He and his family were seen boarding a Qatar Airways flight towards Doha late last night (8 September), and are believed to be headed for South America where no extradition agreement exists with Nacrad.

Previously, entities in Macau collaborating with the Pearl River Delta Transit Authority (PRDTA) in the Macau Light Rail Transit project came into investigation due to a report by PRDTA that up to 100 million Nacradian Dollars were embezzled. After investigation, it was deemed that Fernando Tsui, with his position as a non-permanent member of the State of Hadrax Executive Committee and thereby having a say in the operation of the PRDTA's Hadrax Branch overseeing this project, is suspected to be misleading the State Government into using companies from which he and his wife were able to receive benefits.

However, upon inspection of the ICAC, it deemed that Tsui and his accomplices was not only suspected in embezzling funds in the Macau Light Rail Transit project, but a number of other projects where Nacradian companies are involved, including the Novo Aterros Urbanos project, the Pearl River Delta Fixed Link (Macau Section) and the Macau Railway Station Expansion Project, with a total amount of some 480 million Nacradian Dollars unlawfully taken by him and his wife alone. With his 10 years' tenure, this comes to the average of 48 million Nacradian Dollars per year.

With ICAC now summoning him for investigation, he had tendered a resignation to Lisbon, and has been seen boarding a Qatari flight fleeing Macau. The President of the Legislative Assembly of Macau, Ho Lat-Seng, had become the Deputy Governor of Macau.

Neither Lisbon nor Macau have given comments on Tsui's resignation as of the writing of this article.

Skirmish between forces loyal to Sumatra and Bidvest AG, a Dietsch private military company in Cilegon leaves 38 dead.

Ethelhilde Malley, BBC
Sep. 9, 2021; Batavia, Batavia

Earlier today, Cilegon, a port settlement in western Batavia bordering the People's State of Sumatra, hosted a skirmish that left 38 dead and hundreds wounded. The aggressors were 'civilians in nondescript clothes armed with military-grade weaponry' according to a local we interviewed, who later were revealed to be loyal to the aforesaid Sumatran nation. They likely landed around the settlement by 4 in the morning before attacking it from north and south.

It is believed that these Sumatran agents -though whether they were vrijbuiter private citizens, intelligence officers or outright members of the military is not yet confirmed- were hoping to seize the settlement and secure a direct route between Batavia and Sumatra. As Celigon was had no military units stationed, it would likely have been the perfect target, but for the presence of a private military. The Private Military Company Bidvest AG aided in the defense of the settlement in a 3 hours' long battle. Though Batavian military was called for support upon the eruption of hostilities, the aggressors had been routed back by 11 am when the first troops arrived to the scene of the battle. 38 were killed, most of them Batavian civilians living in the city though 7 Sumatran and 3 Bidvest personnel were killed as well.

The government of Batavia has summoned the ambassador of Sumatra in order to question him about this recent attack -the fifth of its kind on a Batavian settlement this last 5 months, while the Dietsch government in Amsterdam has redeployed the airship HMNAS Pax Bataviana from her airbase in Formosa to Batavia in order to deter Sumatra from any further adventures.

Togonistan First Front wins the High Council Elections!

Image
TFF President candidate Viliamu Amatai held a speech after the results were made public.

Following the voting day, results were revealed this evening for the 2021 Togonistani High Council Elections. With long-time President Regin Duke announcing his retirement from the office, TFF's new president candidate Viliamu Amatai is preparing to take over his seat in the office after the party won the elections with 42% support from the voters.

Image
TFF won the elections by receiving 42% of the total votes.

TFF dominated the elections in 12 out of 17 voting districts, receiving the biggest support in the capital city of Tushlark and the neighbouring areas in Northern Togonistan. The runner-up Green Party managed to secure victory in 4 districts, kicking Native Togoni Party off the throne from Netina County in the process, while the latter, once again, made a clean sheet in Sifa County and Kishlark.

Image

With TFF reaching their 10th election win to date, the ruling party now faces the challenge of forming the government for their upcoming term. While the 42% support was enough the secure the victory in elections, it is still the weakest result by TFF since 2001. With the result granting TFF 42 seats in Togonistani 101-seat High Council, TFF is in a situation where they will need to seek for coalition partners or form a minority government. According to political analysts, the most likely scenario is a TFF-CLP coalition. The two forces share similar views and with CLP being the smallest faction in the parliament, it is believed that they would be willing to cooperate with TFF to fulfil their goals. Alternatively, a TFF-GP coalition wouldn't be unthinkable either. While the Green Party has been critical towards TFF's actions in the past, the two still have a common ground they could very much work on.

Image

In an unlikely scenario, we could see the 4 opposing parties forming a coalition of their own to dethrone TFF, however, that would require support from Native Togoni Party. The NTP rhetoric has been seen as unacceptable to all sides in the parliament, which means it is very unlikely any sort of cooperation could grow out of it.

President Regin Duke also held a speech today, thanking the people of Togonistan for having faith in him and wishing all the best for President Amatai. ''It has been a great, great pleasure to serve the dear people of Togonistan for the past ten years. Now, it is time for me to pass on the torch to Viliamu Amatai. I wish good luck to President Amatai in his efforts and a lot of strength to overcome any obstacles he may face in his way.''

Danlinian Worldvision Delegation Cancels Participation
Image
Alj Virišnikov on stage, 2018

Danlina's participation in the 93rd Worldvision Song Contest has been highly anticipated by many, for the historical moment that it is both for the nation and for the band that was set to perform, Mouse Romance, who have recently released a new album after the tragic passing away of one of the band's founding members. Sadly, we will not see Mouse Romance performing in Alezia, as the band's bassist Alj Virišnikov fell ill and is currently bedridden.

We were unable to get an exact assessment on his condition, but we have been reassured by a NovkoFal Records representative as well as Alj's sister that he is not in any kind of critical condition, but that he certainly won't be able to go through an interregional flight and perform in Worldvision.

The Svabodá Medijá news team is hoping for Alj's wellbeing, and an update will follow up when we are given more information.

Foundation Day 2021

Image
Scotatrovian soldiers during the Muse military parade

Foundation Day 2021: The National day of Scotatrova is celebrated on September 24 every year and marks the anniversary of the union between the Kingdom of Cadecia with the Kingdom of Avaria to form the modern day Scotatrova. The formal name of the day in Scotatrovian is Diar Iesada or 24 Sietembre. Annually, Foundation Day is celebrated in Scotatrova where traditional parades and events are held to mark the occasion. Last year, owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the celebrations were largely muted. However this year, the Scotatrovian government decided to go ahead with the parade and fireworks. As part of the national day celebrations, Scotatrovian jets flew overhead during the annual parade in Muse. At the Muse parade, the number of onlookers was limited. Each person attending had to show a special pass proving they had been fully vaccinated, had recently recovered from the virus or a had negative virus test. Organizers of this year’s parade dubbed it an "optimistic Foundation Day" aimed at "winning the future" and "celebrating a Scotatrova standing together behind the flag to emerge from the pandemic." President Diaz spoke at the parade, reiterating his push for greater cooperation among European countries. "This moment of conviviality, of reunion...is first and foremost for us the opportunity to address our brothers in arms and their families, and give them a message of gratitude."

Empire of Brazil amasses 125,000 troops along the border with Saint Catherine Republic.

Wilhelmine Renfrew, BBC
Sep. 28, 2021; Concordia, Republic of Saint Catherine

As of September 28, the Brazilian Empire has moved more than a field army's worth of troops to the border with the Republic of Saint Catherine, one of her southern neighbors. This comes as the latest among many similar decisions taken by the Empire that has added to the rising tensions in South America.

The German Republic of Saint Catherine originally broke away from the Empire of Brazil during the chaos of the First Brazilian Civil War of 1889-1893, defeating the Republican Third Army in the Battle of Iguassu (5 August 1890) and then the Imperial Army of Cisplatina in the Battle of the Pines (13 July 1893), thus cementing their independence and that of their southern neighbors in the Riograndese Republic. Since then, Brazil has rattled its sabre to recapture 'the lost province of Santa Catarina' many times, but with the Catherinese Republic under German protection, they never acted on their threat.

It is unclear what Brazil's ultimate goal with such a large-scale mobilisation is. When asked, the Brazilian Minister of War and the Prime Minister of Brazil both refused to comment. Meanwhile Bürgermeister Heinz Friesinger has voiced his concerns about a potential Brazilian invasion and has requested Germany and the Forum of Nations to 'honour their treaty' and protect Catharinese independence. The Forum of Nations Board of Directory will meet on October 3 in an emergency session to debate what response should be given.

Davis: "We Need Change"
Roy Davis, 67, is Campaigning for the Presidency

Mr. Roy Davis of New York will be stepping down from his position as the Meretican Representative in NATO. He will be replaced by Mr. Herman McCain, one of the rare times where a man will be keeping an office. Davis, 67, was nominated by the Federalist National Convention in Washington City to serve as their presidential candidate. "We need change, and I can't produce change if I don't have a Senate to back me on all of my political positions," Davis said in his last briefing. "I have remained fairly apolitical in NATO. But when I look at the government's official views on foreign affairs, I have to keep my mouth shut more than I'd prefer. We must have a more aggressive, more toe-the-line stance when we look at different countries. We did that with SM in the twenties. We need to do that with TKI and other nations now."

President Brampton responded by saying that she has "Great respect for Mr. Davis" and that he has been a "key part of the current coalition." "Mr. Davis and I have been able to keep Meretica's foreign policy intact. He also was a great help in building our interior policies after the annexation of the Central Gulf. Now, we are all prospering more than ever before. I wish him luck on the campaign trail."

Critics of Davis are few and far between. Senator Anniston Jekyll-Hyde of California, a Democratic-Republican, called Davis an "egomaniac and authoritarian" after reading Davis's statement. "He's a maniac, and he's not the right choice for California-- or the Central Gulf, for that matter." Jekyll-Hyde, an agrarian nationalist, is one of 15 Senators that has not recognized the unification of the Central Gulf and Meretica. She is expected to lose re-election by at least fifty percentage points.

Meanwhile, the Federalist Party seems to be benefiting from Davis's boost. The Federalists have taken an astounding lead with 54.5% of the potential vote, the largest margin since Freedom Williams obtained a 59% majority. Some political pundits think that Mereticans are not ready to move forward, however. Polls indicate that 87% of Mereticans are unsure of which party to support following the death of President Channing. Channing, a devout Labour-Liberal alliance enthusiast, was the last remaining member of the establishment that she had built throughout her life. With several parties essentially functioning with little-known politicians as their leaders, many Mereticans are reluctant to commit to a party. During the 2020s, on the other hand, that number never reached more than 19%.

"Mereticans like stable politics. They hate it when people die," Jason Baptiste, a political analyst working with St. Vilnius's Academy, said. "When popular pols die, especially when they drop like flies as they've done in recent months, Mereticans become chickens with their heads cut off. They want a leader they can trust, they can look forward to. When Albus Organa died, they turned to the Queen. When she died, they turned to Margaret Channing. When she died, they turned to Gabby Sorit-- a South Olpenese leader of all people. Now I'm going to say that they'll turn to Roy Davis. Davis is a popular moderate, he gets along well with the other large parties, and he's well known for his service in the twenties. The Federalists are an American party, though, so the next election cycle could hinge on who the other nominees are. We're in for a tough cycle, especially for Labour, the Liberals, and the Centrists."

Sitting Vice President Tumnus Spearson, one of four candidates for the Labour nomination, disagrees. "President Brampton and I have worked with the Federalists, the Liberals, and the Greens to hold this nation together. We will carry this coalition into the next government." Labour, which is currently polling at 17.2%, has already begun its primaries; however, turnout has been dangerously low, indicating that voters are not enthusiastic to vote for the sitting administration. Spears scored a mere 10% of the vote, placing third; 40% voted for someone other than the four declared candidates. With a divided field among the libertarian left, some have looked to the centrist Liberals for hope. However, there are no candidates, even dark horse candidates, that appeal to all factions of the party.

"If we're being honest-- and I certainly hope we are-- it's the united ticket of the Democratic-Republicans and Anti-Federalists that can defeat Davis and his crew," said presidential candidate Austin Nightshade, the governor of Tennessee. Nightshade, running with the combined support of the Anti-Federalists, Conservatives, and Democratic-Republicans. "We may be polling at 16.2% right now, but once we get our message out, we're going to take the Centrist vote, pull in the Liberals, and put the Greens out to pasture. We have the best chance of winning this thing."

Despite Nightshade's arguments, Davis seems to be heading straight for a landslide victory. Should he win, he will have been the first person to be president of three separate nations and serve in three separate governments at various intervals of his life.

Coalition Forces at the Gates of Warsaw!

Hereward Bacon, DW Correspondant
Oct. 10, 2021; Berlin, Germany

After more than a month of hostility, the conflict between the International Coalition and National State of Poland seems to have come to a conclusion. Though Britannic and Lithuanian vanguard forces had reached the outskirts of Warsaw, and though Ruthenian short-range batteries have been pelting that city for more than a week now, the bulk of the German, French, Dietsch, Britannic and Ruthenian forces, backed by anti-Lewinsky forces inside the city, have found victory in the Siege of Warsaw and broken through the city defenses. Urban warfare is in full effect and skirmishes rage as coalition troops march for the Presidential Castle of Warsaw where the dictator Korneliusz Lewińsky has locked himself in.

At the time, most of Poland has been seized from Lewinsky's control, though stronghold cities such as Posen are still contested. Control of the territories are as of now held by military authorities from Germany, Lithuania, Ruthenia and Britannia, though it is expected that civilian control under Anti-Lewinsky resistance forces will be restored gradually in the future. Friedrich August von Kettler-Wilna, Commander-in-Chief of Coalition Forces in Poland, has promised that "Lewinsky and his brothers, as well as any civilian and military official owing loyalty to the Lewinsky regime, will be flown immediately to the Hague to be tried for crimes against humanity.".

Scotatrova Nears Life Without Coal

Image

From Chastre in the north to Casturas in the south, Scotatrova's old coal plants are running out of steam. The European nation last year cut use of the dirtiest fossil fuel faster than anyone else in western Europe as renewable energy and cleaner natural gas take over. The combustible rock, which has kept the region humming through wars and economic boom times, is increasingly out of favor with lawmakers and executives under pressure to do more to stop global warming. "We are in a hurry, we have to move fast, everybody has to move fast," Minister of Environmental Safety Alina Matos said on Tuesday at a forum in Delboa. The Scotatrovian government plans to permanently phase out its remaining coal-fired power stations later this decade, replacing them with new wind and solar capacity. Coal’s share in the nation’s electricity fell to a four-decade low a year earlier, according to the nation’s grid operator.

The sharp drop is yet another sign how the unprecedented surge in renewable power output coupled with the lowest seasonal gas prices in a decade have upended traditional energy economics. Scotatrova was anticipating exiting the fuel by the end of the decade. "The fall in coal generation means Scotatrova could phase out the fuel much faster than the government ever imagined," said Alina Matos. The nation burned as much as 42% less coal in 2020 than a year earlier. The Scotatrovian government made a start by phasing out all coal-mining operations after passing the Scotatrovian Renewable Energy Initiative to enable a smoother transition to a green economy. Output is poised to fall further this year as the nation plans to retire its remaining plants by the middle of the decade. If the utilities stick to earlier statements, then Scotatrova could be entirely without coal as early as 2027. The nation’s lead in exiting coal is helped by having some of the best renewable resources in Europe, which, coupled with subsidies, has stimulated more power capacity than needed to keep the lights on. "Scotatrova is the most oversupplied electricity market in Europe," said Matos. "So it has the capacity to shut coal power plants and not wait for new capacity to come online."

Davis Elected to Presidency
The Federalists have Taken the Senate and Presidency in a Landslide
President-elect Roy Davis has been elected to the presidency with a whopping 79% of the popular vote-- the largest margin of victory in Meretican history. The runner-up, Governor Austin Nightshade of Tennessee, received a mere 21% of the vote, trailing Davis by 58 points. Davis, a Federalist,
currently holds an approval rating of 87% (much higher than Wynnefreede Brampton's current 8%), and his policies are widely supported.

Governor Nightshade and his running mate (Sen. Amanda Carson) have both conceded to Davis and the Vice President-elect, Sen. Amanda Green. King Vilnius, Presidents Brampton and Nightshade, and dozens of Senators have also congratulated Davis on the landslide victory. Davis came within 10,000 votes of winning Nightshade's home state of Tennessee, destroying any hopes of the Nightshade campaign reaching the 25% threshold. "We put up a damn good fight," the governor said. "But Roy is going to be a great president. I congratulate him on his victory and cannot wait to see how Meretica can grow."

Tumnus Spears, a former vice president and a former candidate for the presidency, was also delighted to offer Davis and his team a congratulatory statement. "I'm very proud of Mr. Davis and cannot wait to see where his presidency leads us," Spearson said. "It is but a shame that my health prevents me from serving in his administration. I would do so in a heartbeat if I thought I would live longer."

Parliament Approves Plan to Extend Motorway for Traffic Relief
Jacob Cheng | 3 Nov 2021

RIVERFORT -- Parliament has passed the Motorway Extension (National Motorway 1 Capital Territory Section) (Funding) Bill, which enables the extension of a spur of the M1 Motorway's NCT section, better known as the Central Motorway, across the Pearl River.

The M1 is the first intercity motorway, being part of National Route 1. It links almost all mainland state capitals and takes a coastal route, and slices through the heavily urbanised Pearl River Delta Metropolis. However, due to poor planning, it is often also built to serve as a local expressway to get from one side of a city to the other, mixing local traffic with intercity traffic. This is especially pronounced in the Capital Territory, where it is the only physical motorway which serves the CBD of Riverfort on the northern bank of the Pearl River. At the same time, National Motorways 7, 16 and 23 also serve the carriageway to cross this river, and it takes on traffic going north-south and east-west in the Greater Riverfort region.

While proposals were made to widen the motorway, all plans were shot down and later legislation was passed to ban any expansion of said motorway. This left the motorway at only 4 lanes per direction at the river crossing, and that is reduced to 3 per direction not long after the crossing. As a result, the Central Motorway has become one of the most congested roads in Nacrad, its vehicle flow some 70% above the designed capacity.

Previous governments have tried to remedy this, however the only fruit from such efforts is a half-finished spur of the M1, numbered the M117. While it was originally planned to cross the Pearl River after an intersection with Punyu Boulevard, one of the many feeders to the Central Motorway, the crossing was shot down and as a result it ends in a junction with Punyu Boulevard, without providing a fifth crossing.

However, traffic has since grown since then. Now, the original plan had been partially revived, with a tunnel under the Pearl River and connecting to the Blofeld Avenue in Riverfort, it provides an alternative route to both M17 and M1, the 2 most major motorways in the Pearl River Delta. It is projected that this project could increase traffic capacity across the Pearl River by up to 15%, although critics believe it to still be insufficient.

Macau Votes for Independence From Portugal
Charlotte Riedel | 15 November 2021

MACAU, Mo. - The Macanese Government has finished counting votes for its independence referendum, with a turnout ratio of 43.1% and 76% of voters voting for independence.

This vote came from extensive protests against the colonial government, after the/ uncovering of their former governor Fernando Tsui's 300-million-dollar corruption case in various infrastructure projects undertaken by Macau. "I simply do not understand why it is not Macau who persecutes our wayward governor," says Duarte Leong, an opposition legislator, "I believe that this is a testament to the corruption and the incompetence of the Portuguese Macanese Government." This opinion was also shared by the majority of the Macanese, with only 17% supporting the status quo.

Nevertheless, this opinion was not shared by the Macanese legislature, the Legislative Council. Only 10 of 27 members voted against the status quo. This stems from the electoral system of this Portuguese colony, where only 11 seats are directly elected, 9 are indirectly elected from various "functional constituencies" which are almost completely controlled by pro-status-quo corporations, and 7 are directly appointed by the Governor. This means that most legislators have no incentive to stand with the electors. However, there were few protests until the present, when the colonial administration was slow to investigate the governor's corruption and incompetence.

Lisbon has announced that it will accept the independence referendum, and will render all possible aid to Macau to set up its new government. Doubts were raised for the competence of an already-corrupt administration to administer itself, and it is deemed likely that the new administration will be just as corrupt.

An unofficial plebiscite about 3 weeks prior has found that the overwhelming majority of Macau's youth wishes to join Nacrad. However, opponents to a Nacradian annexation point to the high taxes, the presence of a general sales tax, and the social-democratic economic model that the Federal Government operates, and claim that integration would negatively impact the casinos which the colony operates and gains revenue from.

Nevertheless, this was not an option found in the ballot paper, which sparked some public outrage and accusations of the Colonial Government bowing to corporate interests.

Tatmadaw Unconditionally Surrenders to Coalition
Jimmy Fu | 20 November 2021

NNV Perseverance, Gulf of Martaban - Tatmadaw representative and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Wunna Maung Lwin has signed the Treaty of Peace in Burma at 14:33 Burmese Standard Time today (16:03 Nacrad Standard Time on 20 November), officially bringing an end to the months-long Burmese campaign undertaken by the Coalition which consisted of several SEATO nations and the United States. At the same time, Tatmadaw troops around the country laid down their arms, and surrendered to Coalition troops as commanded by Naypyidaw, though some Tatmadaw-aligned militias remained hostile.

On 3 November, Min Aung Hlaing which is the leader of the junta had flown to Kunming to meet with Coalition generals to discuss a surrender, as Coalition troops had already taken the industrial city of Mandalay in the northern front, and had pushed within 100 km of the largest city of Yangon on the east. Hopes of a conditional surrender were quickly dispelled as the Coalition refused to allow Tatmadaw to hold any political or sovereign power, and insisted that the pro-SEATO National Unity Government which was headed by Aung San Suu Kyi be instead installed as the legitimate interim of Burma. With no other option, Hlaing acquiesced.

The Burmese question was raised on 1 February, where Hlaing had led his top allies and the military to depose of the popularly-elected Burmese government which was led by the National League of Democracy's Win Myint as President and Aung San Suu Kyi, from the same party, as the State Councillor. Tatmadaw claimed that there was election fraud, although the Electoral Commission of Burma refuted such claim. While the junta originally pledged to hold elections, it had soon gone on to use violent and disproportionate force to counter protests, especially against its various minorities. This has prompted SEATO to pass several resolutions to condemn the military regime and urge them to cease human rights abuses. However, these demands fell on deaf ears.

Finally, SEATO had made its decision which was to militarily intervene. On 17 April, the coalition force led by Nacradian General Karson Cheng began Operation Jungle Storm. Leading a million-strong force, the Coalition was met with initial success when advancing through the peripheral minority areas, whose loyalty was wavering at best. However, as the frontlines moved to the Myawaddy River, it quickly became a gruelling war of attrition before the front stagnated at Mandalay.

As Burma is fighting alone ultimately, its military had eventually ran out of equipment and its morale soon collapsed. Hlaing, left with no choice, chose to surrender.

At the same time, Win Myint and Aung San Suu Kyi were released. A new constitution will be drafted with the aid of the international community, replacing the current constitution.

Royal's Rapid Re-entry Raises Rash Reactions

As the state of life in the LFS has rapidly deteriorated in the past months, many have begun to expect a major shake-up and potential civil conflict to be on the horizon, with people both finding the continued crumbling of social order untenable while also living in desperate fear that the reaction may expect a return to to dictator's expecting ideological purity. Whatever conflict may now ensue has now had its inciting incident: Varna Baranauskienė, Heiress to the throne of the old High Kingdom of Lietuva, has just become the first member of the Royal family to set foot on Lietuvan soil since the Jacobin revolution.

While no one is sure of her motives, her presence has incited both celebrations and riots across the country. Sensing opportunity, a number of constituencies have put forward motions recognizing her as "Cincinnatus" (Temporary Dictator) of the Decay Crisis, while others are demanding her physical removal from the country, dead or alive.

Worse still, fighting between opposing factions has begun on the streets of Karaliaučius, and we are receiving reports of shots fired in at least two neighborhoods of the city.

Expected Royalist Shocks Nation With Unexpected Take: Calls Current Powers a "Cuckoo in the Nest of Mother Anarchy," Rallies Crowds to Demand Panarchy

Many expected that the return of the woman who would be High Queen to Lietuvan shores would mark the rise of a reactionary revolution, seeking to establish the old order. However, it is often forgotten that the Royal history of Lietuva has been replete with absolutely impossible-to-predict twists and turns that snub the expectations of all who observe them, From the first High King, Dagonis, eschewing all pagan-cultivated legitimacy to embrace the Orthodox Church, to the increasing hatred for the rest of the First Estate by the later heirs of the Smetona dynasty over their treatment of the rural poor, it is safe to say that the archetype of monarchs as blue-blooded, cynical authoritarians has been subverted many a time before.

But no one expects the potentially-rightful monarch of a country to quote anarchist songs and politely ask only those willing to hail them in victor's crown.

Yet... here we are. Varna Baranauskienė, Great-Granddaughter of the last surviving Smetona Prince after the execution of much of the family by Jacobins, has come instead to say that the mess of modern life in the LHS is not because anarchy was wrong, but because "it has been betrayed for libertine democracy," She then announced that she has come to establish a Panarchy: a system where people may associate and disassociate from different governments depending on their preferences without changing their preferences, in which a restored Monarchy of the Smetona Dynasty's heirs, now named the Baranauskas dynasty, shall simply be "Organization 1" on a long and potentially ever-growing list of voluntary governments/mutual aid societies, with inter-organization law of the land established by third party judges based solely on the NAP. She then announced that a website has been already established by which new organizations shall be tabulated and may establish their by-laws, and calling the heavily armed population to found and join to their hearts content, accepting no coercion from any former power, such as the local councils, corporations, or any self-proclaimed Cincinnatus.

The existing semblance of a government has had mixed reactions to the declaration, but the internet has seemingly already declared Baranauskienė "Based Panarch-Mommy," and the website now lists over 200 organizations and over 100,000 of signups thereto, with the "High Kingdom of Lietuva" already having 21,000 current members.

A Day Never to Forget

Image

The Eternal Flame in Örkemdrem War Cemetery

By Änder Pëntys

A thin layer of snow covers the ground. The weather is cold and depressing as the days gets darker and darker. For anyone, 26th of November is just a normal day and its either thanksgiving or its just under a month until Christmas. But if you are a soldier or a recruit in the darkmanian armed forces, then 26th of November has a different meaning to you.

26th of November are known as “Military Memorial Day” in Darkmania, a day observed by the military of Darkmania and to some extent the people of Darkmania. Held every year since 1919 to commemorate a peace-treaty ending the darkmanian-vartugian war in 1918, the day today serves to never forget those who has sacrificed for the country in any armed combat Darkmania has involved into. Either by war, civil war or peacekeeping. Some might come home to their loved one after their mission. Some in coffins.

Örkendrem War Cemetery are the final resting place for soldiers that lost their lives. The cemetery has over 3 million graves ranging from the Darkmanian-Vartugian war that ended in 1918, to the brutal civil war from 1976-1988 to the current day peacekeeping operations. In the centre of it all is an eternal flame that has burned since 1952. The flame is the main attraction of the cemetery, the cemetery being older than the flame itself. It opened in 1929 to commemorate the 10th year anniversary.

While we walk inside the cemetery we meet an old-looking woman, laying flowers on a grave.

“He was my father” the old woman tells us.

Her name is Ëmëlye Rëneman. She is 91 years old, and she was laying poppy flower on her father’s grave. He was killed in action in 1943 and since then, on every 26th November she has laid down a poppy on the grave of her father. In the last coble of years, she has also had her children and grand-chrildren with her. And for the first time, even a grand-grandchild with her. 10-month-old Älberta might in the future also be layng poppies on the grave.

It is said that every darkmanian is related to someone who is buried inside the cemetery. It has not been proven nor unproven.

The date has since 1990 also held an annual televised memorial broadcast from within the cemetery. Following the end of the civil war in 1988, it was decided that an annual broadcast will be hosted every war memorial day to commemorate the scars of wars. The broadcast has been proven popular and has been held every year since.

At the end, an familiar song gets performed by a Worldvision star, Ändrea Sëdtÿrme.

Some might remember “Enkle Toner” as the controversial 2nd placed entry at Worldvision 69. Since the contest, the song became the official song for 26th November and has been played at the end every since.

Nation to Vote on Constitutional Amendment to Change Size of Parliament
Jesse Tam | 3 December 2021

RIVERFORT - A referendum was called by Parliament on the amendment of the Constitution, changing the way its size is determined, to be scheduled on 21 January.

The text of the proposed amendment reads:
The House of Representatives shall consist of no fewer than seven hundred and fifty Representatives. Parliament may increase the number of Representatives from time to time such that each Representative represents a number of Citizens no greater than that proscribed in Article 22 of this Constitution.

The Second Amendment is hereby repealed.

As per Section IX of the Constitution and Parliamentary customary traditions, the referendum is held after the House of Representatives passed the bill in a landslide 617-23 vote, much more than the supermajority required. If more than half of those voting in the referendum voted for it, it would be sent to the Senate where it will be official once it again passes with a supermajority, and the President signs it into law.

The amendment was necessary as Amendment II, fixing the size of the House to 750 members, contradicts Article 22, which states that each representative can represent no more than 300 thousand. This implies an assumption that the number of citizens would not exceed 225 million.

However, with the Federal Government's plan to admit Kongsi as a State within this term of government, it would add some 45 million to the already large 172 million population of Nacrad, bringing the total to 217 million, which is uncomfortably close to the 225 million ceiling. As a result, this amendment was proposed so that the Constitution doesn't contradict itself as the population of Kongsi is expected to explode once rebuilding and economic development is at full swing.

Voting is only open to Nacradian citizens who are ordinarily in Nacrad for the past 3 months preceding the referendum, and is not opened to those that do not have citizenship, such as non-naturalised Kongsinese or Cyrenaicans.

WILHELMINADEN - As the new year arrives an approximate of 472.000 Alezian High-School and Gap Year students will compete in order to obtain a seat in their favourite universities. According to the latest survey, most of them are selecting UniZafi and UniDo, while Trishi Tech and The Art Institute of Saint Charles et Louvigny are the favorite specialized institutes.

In order to make sure the system of competitive entry runs smoothly, The Ministry of Education of Alezian Union (MINED) worked together with the Ministry of Technology (MINTECH) and ARICO Technologies to use boxes of servers and software in order to make assorting students based on their previous report card scores and various other factors much easier. This system is called the ALEZIVARSITY.net System.

Usually, a student would enter their student ID, school ID, email, and password to sign up into such systems. After that, students are required to fill in the compulsory form on their address, their previous education, their academic or non-academic achievements, and many more. Then from there, students are allowed to pick three varsities of their dreams. However, this doesn't seem to be the case due to the fact that the system faced various problems that prevented students from signing up to the ALEZIVARSITY.net System.

"I don't get it, I've entered the correct credentials and ensured everything was in order, but I still can't sign up properly. They said that they're having a server malfunction or that they're having a problem with the admission's databases." said Mahardika, a 17 year old that was going to graduate high school and enter university next year. This problem happened to the majority of students trying to sign up.

This caught the attention of a student group called the Alezian Student Group (ASG). The chairman of such organization, Edi Zoelferd, said in an interview with ABA|news that the system was an "embarrasment", and that "Alezia as a developed country should've prevented this thing from even happening on the first place." Edi continued, "The problem might be that the administrators tried reusing the North Alezian University Admission System, forgetting the fact that the amount of people that would be using the system would increase dramatically." Edi closed by saying, "I do hope that this system would be fixed immediately and this problem would never happen again in the years to come".

In an interview with the ABA on yesterday's newsreel/19 , Minister of Education Yabliq Ammariziq said, "The massive influx of students signing up into the ALEZIVARSITY.net System is the main cause of this problem. Massive influx of visitors caused the system to slow down. This is a major problem that we with ARICO, MINTECH, and MININTER (Ministry of Internet) are trying to fix by asking the National Council to warrant an emergency funding of additional server stations."

Reacting to this and the comment from ASG, The National Council in their public meeting this morning released a NAKAZ in order to ensure increased funding allocated to the servers and its upkeep. The member for South Alezia, Mahmud Bergen stated: "The Alezian Union is a nation that has a strong will to study. If things like this keep them from going on, then it's something that needs to be fixed immediately."

Students across the Alezian Union were able to sign up until the 2nd of February, after that, students shall continue with the verification process that closes at 27th of February, where university admissions results shall be announced on 25th of March, where students can either get picked into their preferred universities, or use their AUFX grade that would be out on 17th of April in order to pick the university that welcomes students with that specific grade. Nanchang Subway Reopens For First Time Since War Began
Nelson Tam | 15 January 2022

Image
Trains entering and exiting the First of August Square station, close to downtown

NANCHANG, KO - The Nanchang Metro has been partially reopened after a multi-million dollar rehabilitation project. An 8.3-kilometer section, originally belonging to the Revolution Line and the Comradeship Line, has seen trains running on it for the first time in nearly 3 years.

The system was originally planned under the Communist regime to be 41 kilometers long in 1967, with construction beginning the year later. It was never fully completed, however, the last project on this system concluded in 1981 bringing the total trackage to 29 kilometers. The system was operated until late 2019 with the DK3 electric multiple units provided by Peking built in the 1960s to 1970s. However, frequent equipment failures plagued the system, and the last train was operated on the system in December 2019, with the tunnels and stations remaining vacant until today.

The system sustained extensive damage, particularly in the industrial areas just north of the city center. Furthermore, before capitulation, all trainsets, electrical systems and signalling systems were withdrawn and destroyed, leaving Nacrad with only the tracks and stations, a shell of what it used to be. As part of Operation Hopeful Dawn, an operational plan to develop the territory, the subway system was rehabilitated. Work began early last year (2021) working to refit electrical and signalling systems into the tunnels.

Last month (December 2021), retired Metropolitan-Cammell trains, originally used on the Riverfort and Portsville subways, were transported to the old depot in central Nanchang. These trains, known in short as M-trains, were delivered to Nacrad for the initial operation of many Nacradian subway systems in the late 1970s with a service life of 45 years. They were subsequently refurbished by the turn of the century, and later batches of the same model remain in service even today.

22 sets were transferred to the city. With the trainsets, the rehabilitated sections were consolidated into one section using spur tracks, and service is offered between 7 am and 9 pm with an operational headway of 10 minutes. Work continues on other sections of track, with a new phase of service enhancements coming in the form of new trainsets.

1 Million COVID Infections in Atalon

More than 1 million cumulative coronavirus cases have now been reported in Atalon, the first state to do so, as the Omicron variant continues its staggering spread. The record-setting pace of infections is putting pressure on hospitals, schools and other institutions, which are struggling to maintain full services even as some employees take time off to deal with COVID-19. On Sunday, the state reported 43,883 new infections, a figure that breaks the all time record, but will likely be broken as the last week has seen various all time daily highs broken. State officials said more than 200,000 COVID tests are being reported daily. Muse hit its own milestone Sunday, topping 400,000 cases. Due to the high levels of immunization from vaccines, the number of hospitalizations remains low. Even with lower than usual hospitalization rates, there is a tremendous strain being put on the healthcare system. It was over two months ago when the state recorded 300,000 cases at a time when Atalon was seeing declines in daily new infections and hospitalizations. With the Omicron variant showing no signs of slowing down, Governor Raul Soliz requested for President Diaz to deploy national troops to assist in testing efforts throughout the state.
