Survive Sherechia: Earthquake in Sakhatkhorgo [IC/OPEN]

Salman lays down on the third floor of the Chudo Sanlak hotel, slightly north of Sakhatkhorgo station. The view out the window is of the busy street below. Many food vendors and pedestrians pass by the 2 lane road, some even spilling over into the road as drivers slowly navigate the street filled with professional jaywalkers. The room itself has a single bed and a shower and thats about it. Still, at least it's clean, well lit, and has this cozy minimalist design to it with white walls, some with wood panels, a beige bed, and warm-colored lighting.

While modest, the hotel has a ramen shop at the ground floor. A shop that sells fishing equipment exists within a 200 meter walk from the hotel.

Salman looks at his suitcase for his fishing rod, but he seems to have forgotten it. He’s also starting to get hungry, so he goes to the ramen shop. The ramen is 10 Kans(Around 17,5 Olman Katrs). He pays for the ramen and starts to eat it while looking for any stores that sel fishing equipment near him via his phone. He finds one, 200 meters ahead. He starts walking and when he arrives, his ramen is already finished. The askes for a fishing rod and gets one for 125 Kans(Around 219,3 Olman Katrs). He plans to use the remaining noodle pieces for bait. Then he looks at his phone again to find the location of Lake Chida and starts walking.

Later at the shop

"Sir, that would be 6000 kans, not 125."

A light drizzle pours over Sakhatlhorgo and visibility drops below 1000 meters as fog descends into the city. Salman looks at his phone to find that lake Chida is 50 Km east of Sakhatkhorgo. Fortunately, the map shows 2 ways to get into lake Chida. Driving or the bus would take between 40-60 minutes while the train can do it in 30 minutes.

Francine arrives in the bus stop. To call it a bus stop would be an insult since it looks more like a station. It even has platform screen doors. Passengers would wait in a climate-controlled room with a large glass window overlooking the bus lanes outside, a bus would arrive and the glass platform screen doors would open, just like a subway. Another similarity to the subway is the usage of high platform stations and busses.

Unfortunately for here, she can't actually enter the bus station. Like riding the subway, she must buy a plastic card that can be tapped so that the gates would open. Fortunately, there is a counter nearby with a person that selling the cards.

A little confused, she decides to go and buy these plastic cards as she was told.
Maybe so she could finally get to the hotel.

Francine enters the bus. Fortunately she finds a seat and sits down. The red bi-articulated bus is surprisingly empty. Only 30 people in a vehicle that's designed for over 200. The bus speeds through the center of Sakhatkhorgo, unbound by traffic. The ride was pretty rough however as the vehicle would often bounce from Sakhatkhorgo's hilly roads. The creaking sounds of the suspension taking an absolute beating and the loud roar of the 400hp turbo-diesel engine doesn't help. The bus arrives at a stop thats 100 meters from the 3 star Saikao Hotel.

"Good afternoon, are you looking for a room?"

And just in time as well as rain begins to pour the moment Francine enters the hotel.

He goes there and asks for some fake fish baits. They’re around 500-700 Kans. He buys the cheapest ones and goes fishing. He catches a medium sized salmon (He finds it funny that the fish’s name and his name are nearly the same) after around 10-15 minutes of waiting. He is pretty happy about his catch. He goes to his hotel and starts cooking the fish.

After making a right turn to a narrow road, barely big enough for 2 cars, the car parks in front of the "Kensen Daishin" restaurant. A casual well lit and cozy restaurant that serves traditional Sherechian food. It is relatively small with only 6 tables though it is barely half full.

Salman arrives at a small town on the shores of lake Chida. Immediately he sees the lake with barren snow-capped mountains in the distance, locals and tourists fishing and swimming on the lake. A local approach Salman and offers him a ride on his yak.

"For 500 kans il give you a ride around this town, for 1000 kans, il give you a ride to that peninsula and back."

As salman goes fishing he catches a Sherechian Pufferfish. A smooth, grey-white freshwater fish that inflates while making a funny sound as soon as he grabs it from the fishing rod. The second time he got a salmon.

The woman managed to enter the hotel just before the first drops wet her head; although walking was difficult after the bus ride more like a rodeo. In this country they must be in a damn hurry to go that fast even on public transport. Or they just liked to run like crazy. She vowed that she would no longer criticize the delays in Parisian public transport after that experience.
Her legs still limp, she walked over to the receptionist who had greeted her as soon as she entered. "Hi, I'm Francine Lemaire. I've already booked a single room. Here are my documents. Can I find out the times for breakfast and dinner and have a tourist map of the city?"

"Ok, here are the keys, breakfast is from 5.00 to 8.00 while dinner is from 18.00 to 20.00. As for a tourist map. There is one on that magazine shelf, next to that sofa. Thank you."

The map shows several sites of interest.

Lake Chida: A large lake 50 km west of Sakhatkhorgo. A popular place for fishing, swimming, and yak riding.

Fault Line Park: A large park south of the city named after a fault line that runs in it. It provides great views of the city and is
a popular picnic site.

Chisun palace: The Eiffel tower or Statue of Liberty of Sakhatkhorgo, a 1000 year old palace on the top of a small mountain on the opposite side from Fault Line park and besides providing great views, is also an important place of worship for Tsaotak. Prayer and meditation are often done and people often seek wisdom from the priests that reside there. They are also rumored to have the best tea in the whole nation.

If one is feeling a bit more adventurous, they can try to climb one of the 3 peaks that surround the city. Kekudo peak at 4700 meters, Narasando peak at 5000 meters, and Dakan peak at 4700 meters. All of them provide great views though the extreme height makes them unrecommended for people who have little to no experience in climbing mountains.

Sakhatkhorgo Zoo: A large zoo filled with mostly local wildlife as the typical African Savannah wildlife would struggle to survive in Sakhatkhorgo's climate.

The room that Francine booked has two beds, a shower, a refrigerator, a cupboard, an AC, a heater and a view of the street below. The room itself seems clean and well-lit.

Orion finds that the car is rather old, it looks like it's either from the 80s or 90s, which it is. While clean and well maintained. It has no seatbelts, no airbags, a traditional carburetor, a manual transmission, no ABS and traction control. At least it has a nice comfy beige cloth seat.

After eating and buying his hiking equipment at the local store. He gets out of the store to find out it has been raining for some time. A speeding bus passes by and splashes puddle water on Orion. Fortunately it's mostly water, not mud.

While cooking the fish, Salman thinks about the offer that the local made. Then, he sees that he hasn’t prepared the table yet. He quickly prepares the table and removes the salman from the pan. When he starts eating, he realizes that it’s a bit burnt, but still edible. Later, the opens his laptop to write about his journey. After finishing his text, he decides to go to Chisun Temple. He realizes that he doesn’t have as money left as he thought, so he decides to go there by walking. He starts feeling sick, probably because of the altitude. A local street food seller by the road sees him, offers him a Khimak leaf and tells him to chew it, which he does. He suddenly starts to feel better, and thanks the woman.

Salman arrives in Chisun palace, the rain had stopped and the fog has lifted out of the valley. He stands at the bottom of the hill leading to the top of the palace. There is a paved road that leads to the top or a stone staircase with over 200 steps. The white walls of the palace radiate across the city and give a divine aura that is unfortunately shattered by how loud and busy the street below is with food vendors and traffic.

Francine unpacked and decided to rest for a while to recover from the plane trip (and the crazy bus ride). Maybe for the afternoon she would go out for a walk and see the city for a while. There would still be time to visit the attractions there, however, as he had booked for a week.

Fortunately, both the rain and fog disappeared relatively quickly. Chisun Palace along with the Kekudo and Narasando peaks are visible. The air is still cold though despite sunlight now illuminating the valley.

Orion arrives at a traditional Sherechian wooden house. It has only 2 rooms. The bathroom which was retrofitted into the building recently as seen by the mismatching between the wooden floor of the house and the concrete and ceramic floor of the bathroom. The rest of the space contains a bed, a small kitchen, a cupboard, a carpet, and climate control (AC and heater). Kind of like a hotel room, just more traditional.

Outside there isn't much apart from a small gravel road, some trees and several small ponds and streams.

i check out the house and decide to see if there are any hiking trails nearby he finds one that should be long enough to start breaking in the new boots he leaves a note on the door saying "Gone hiking should be back around 5:30" ( i left it because i am a foreign exchange student)
