Head Coach Sean Reid has been fired. Offensive Coordinator Ryan Farnwell has taken Head Coach responsibilities and QB Coach David Webb will be taking over as Offensive Coordinator.

QB Sam Finnegan has been suspended indefinitely. Justin Gates will take over as QB1 and Emergency Backup Quarterback Sebastion Cohortez has been promoted to the roster.

After smashing the Serpent Eagles of Banija by 22 points in New Washington, the Jaguars of TJUN-ia were perceived by many to be hotter than ever before in their history. That big win over Banija took them to 4-0 in the season and with both offence and defence cooking like never before, even Gus McKerrin himself was a bit surprised at how well Jake Griffin's team were doing in a group with 2 Top 5 teams. But even he knew that a particular phrase was being thrown around that would ring on the flight to AO: 1 down, 1 to go. Banija was down for now, but onto Saint Kanye we go. The Surge entered this contest at the Pencurve Electronics Field in Kardashia 3-1, their only loss to Banija on MD2, and they certainly looked like a force to be reckoned with in the tournament as a whole. Jeff Delphine's side, QBed by R.J. Linetti, would certainly be strong foes in front of a passionate home crowd, but a further stipulation was added involving both nation's NSSCRA squads: If St. Kanye won the day, then all of JR would appear at the rematch on the final day in Yeezie Purple and Lime. But if TJUN-ia won their 2nd Top 5 matchup in a row and avoided a 3rd instance of the "Attack Triangle", then GFR would turn up in Jaguar Blue and Orange.

The first half would certainly be a tight affair, a reverse of the shootout in The Gardens the week before, and points would be hard to come by from the start. James Rasputin hit the first points of the night after a drive halted by Prince Brown before a Gary Bradman bat-down forced Chi On-Ma to do the same, 3-3 after the first 15. James Rasputin started Q2 with another to make it 6-3 but Chi failed in his 2nd attempt, giving the Surge the advantage...until the next drive, when Pedro Marquinios picked off Linetti and allowed Griffin to find Vinny Mac and run 28 yards to the endzone - Chi now 1/3, 9-6 Jags. Mac would certainly become a key piece to this game, with the Surge Air Defence forcing Griffin to rely on the ground game form most of the contest, and he would run for an 11 point score before the break - Chi 1/4, Jags 15-6 at the break. Mac needed a breather after dragging the team in the first half, so TSU alumni Klaveon Tyrell would see more of the ball from Q3 onwards. He would score himself actually, duking at least 3 Surge defenders en route to the 23-yarder. Chi clearly wasn't having a fun night so instead, Griffin opted to find Mac for the rushing 2 Point Conversion - 23-6 Jags. That would mostly be that for this contest, but Griffin wouldn't leave without a scare as he threw a 90-yard Pick 6 to Gary Bradman - his first in a long while, if it's ever happened before. At least Chi finally got his 2nd field goal to end his game 2/5 overall, but 2/2 on FGs.It certainly wasn't a pretty contest but in the end, it was enough for the Jaguars. They had done what few thought was possible and actually beat both Top 5 teams to enter the halfway stage at 5-0, a feat only hosts Delaclava and Chromatika share. GFR will be in Blue and Orange and now, the "Bet Series" was tied at 1-1.

TJUN-Banija-STK-USGA-NG-Caleonia. That order was set in stone after the first half of this group stage, with no team tied on record at all. But many feel that the rematches are always the chaotic ties in this sport and thus, every single one had to be taken very seriously. That will be the mindset for our matchup with 2-3 United States of Great America in The Gardens - but what should be the theme for this matchup against relative unknowns? Well, New Washington and USGA are actually from the same grouping, what U1 and U2 may call "Americans" and what U3 would call "Amerikans" or "Yanks". So, with that in mind, the USGA game has been declared "Star-Spangled Night" - a celebration of American culture, including the fan's passion and a whole lot of red, white and blue. A true night of Patriots for a team looking ever the more Imperious. GO JAGS!

There were always going to be bumps on the road for the Sarzonian national gridball team. With a brand new starting quarterback and a manager in his first full campaign as the full-time manager, the thought that Sarzonia would be in cruise control in the proverbial group of death was laughable.

But still, Gavin Davis wasn't expecting this. A blowout defeat to HUElavia, the one ranked team lower than Sarzonia in the World Bowl ranks. Not a loss that saw Davis bench starting quarterback Cameron Stallworth for Mike Barnett, then see Davis be forced to put Stallworth back in after Barnett got sacked for a safety.

Third string quarterback Wendy Bartlett engineered two late scoring drives to keep the Stars from getting shutout. Davis said Stallworth would start the match against Cordia.

"I took him out because we weren't moving the ball and I hoped Barnett would give us a spark," Davis said. "We allowed six sacks to that point in the match, and I didn't want Stallworth to get hurt."

Barnett would get injured on his first play from scrimmage after Los Armarillos downed a punt at the Sarzonia three. Barnett took the snap and dropped back to throw, but got walloped in the end zone by defensive ends Raymond Blanchard and Théo Obama. The safety ended gave the home side a 37-0 lead with 8:10 remaining in the third quarter.

Barnett was taken to the tent to be evaluated for a concussion. Even though he passed the concussion tests and was cleared to return, Davis opted for Stallworth.

"I didn't want to risk it even though he passed the concussion protocol," Davis said.

The Stars (3-2) are still in position for a spot in the knockout rounds, but running back Ty'Relle Clinton, who was held to 18 yards on 14 carries, said the Stars had a lot of work to do.

"We needed this one, man," he said. "You never want to drop matches against lower-ranked competition even if a group as competitive as this one."

Fresh Off Humiliating Loss, Krauts Back To Business As Usual

Nothing looked off for Ranoria after a dominating performance against the Cordian Isles as Emanuel Ostergaard took a beating and John Garrett's offense moved with the mechanical efficiency it's used to - but nobody was thinking about another cruise of a victory by the reigning champions. They were wondering how this team would respond to a humiliating shutout against Abanhfleft, who are now in control of Group B with the head-to-head advantage against our Krauts.

The forty points by the offense were nice, but against a team that had been 2-2 coming in, it wasn't more than anyone was expecting. Everyone expected a blowout win, and if they wanted to be shown something more, they'll have to wait until the Stars or Armored Revolutionaries get another crack at the Krauts - those are the games where we can really get a litmus test on the strength and spirit of this team.

John Garrett took a ton of criticism after the first shutout of his life leading up to this one, with some even going so far as to suggest he should be benched to make a statement. Some of the criticisms were valid. Derek McNair went undefeated in two group stages, while Garrett has now lost three group stage games in as many runs. But at the same time, Farmboy has won a championship and consistently been regarded as one of the best passers in the world. More consistency would be nice, but this is gridiron, and as they say "any given Sunday." It happens, and even the most dominant defense in history has taken its lumps. (looking at you, Dragonflies)

Ultimately though, the expectation is for this team to be perfect, and they weren't perfect this season. Going unbeaten against the toughest in the world is a tall order, but it's nothing these fans think their team isn't capable of.

"We're going to have to win out," said head coach Raul Nieler at a pre-game press conference, "We have to beat Abahnfleft in the rematch, and we have to win the group. That's step one. Once we're in the knockout stage - the goal is of course to win the whole damn thing."

Byron Joseph groaned as he pushed himself to his feet, spitting out turf pellets as he stood. The attendees in the Karmin-Falce superdome buzzed around him, fans who had been treated to exactly what was advertised - a championship game between two of the most dynamic young quarterbacks in the RFL. So far, Deondre Rhine had been the better man.

4th and 9 with two and a half minutes left, and Joseph looked to the sideline expecting the punt team. Instead, he was rewarded with his head coach shouting an inquiry across the field.

"Byron! Byron!"

He snapped to attention, not even noticing when the official took the ball out of his hands, and nodded towards his coach. He wouldn't have normally heard him over the noise all around them, but through the microphone in his helmet, it was loud and clear.

"Do you want to go for it?"

The young star flashed a thumbs up before hesitation even had the chance to cross his mind. If he was going to win this game, he wanted the ball in his hands. If he was going to lose - well, better not to have any regrets.

He got the playcall and drew his teammates into the huddle. Simple play, a staple, but for a reason. Everyone watching - hundreds of millions, maybe billions, watching around the world. Well over a hundred thousand in the superdome. But more than anyone else, twenty two men taking the field knew it was a moment that could define their careers.

Joseph took the snap in the shotgun and went to his first read. Second, still nothing, and then out of the corner of his eye he saw Sean Morgan-Horne coming down hard on a delayed blitz. His instincts kicked in, and he bolted. Morgan-Horne slipped into the dirt trying to make a cut to catch the uber-athletic Joseph, who got outside the pocket and continued on an angle towards the sideline, but no one had the speed to catch him. It was a lapse in their playcalling, leaving such a mobile passer nearly unaccounted for in this situation, and they paid with a twenty yard run on fourth and nine.

Another pass, run, pass. Byron Joseph was in the zone, running down the clock and picking up yards with impunity. And then, inside the five yard line, no one was fast enough to close the gap before he ran into the end zone.

Joseph spiked the ball as the largest stadium in the country erupted. He raised a fist in the air and soaked in the brief moment of triumph - he’d battled with Rhine before, and just like those other times, he had no intention of going down with a whimper.

But he settled himself back in to prepare for the overtime that was soon to come, and immediately went back to the data pad as the kicking team took the field to make it a 31-31 game.

Joseph didn’t even realize the kick was pulled wide left after he heard a collective gasp. He glanced up, “What happened?”

No one answered. His coach tossed his clipboard aside and cursed.

Ezekiel Newman’s kick is no good. The score is Dietrich 31, Highport 30.

At those damning words from the stadium’s speakers, Byron Joseph set his tablet aside and put his head in his hands. By the time he looked back up at the scoreboard, mouth slightly agape, Diamond Rhine was being swarmed with the press and fans alike. A kicker had cost his team a chance at immortality, regulating them to a footnote in the story of another historic year from the Dynamos.

But his jaw set with a scowl soon after. “We’ll be back,” he swore, “we’ll be back.”

Flip a coin. Heads or tails. Good. Now do that five times in a row. This little exercise can go exactly thirty-two different ways (if you assume there is a heads or tails each time, and not something crazy like landing propped up on a shoe, or the coin landing on its edge, or disappearing into the couch cushion. And you'd reflip anyway, so it doesn't matter.)

Consider the two-point conversion. It's quite similar - you can put the best players on the field, scramble your brains for the cleverest stratagem you can imagine, but in the end, there are two options - will you move the ball forward two yards, or will you not? - and the data tells us there is roughly a 50% chance of success, the rest of failure.

Thirty-two outcomes doesn't sound like much to a mathematician or a Farf, but it's a whole heck of a lot for a football coach who's trying to outline a clear path to victory, a team of players trying to execute each play perfectly, a horde of fans waiting on bated breath if the next moment will go their team's way.

So there are plenty of ways to tell the story of what happened when the 4-0 Phoenixes took the portal to Metropolon and face perhaps their most important rivals of today, the fellow two-time champions Drawkland. And looking at the two-point conversions alone is suitably compelling...

Prologue. The Delaclava Phoenixes are hosting the 43rd World Bowl, but like everyone else, they must qualify to get there. So far, so good. They have four wins and no losses. They fought for their life in Buffalostan and escaped with it; other than that, there has been little difficulty to speak of. But the Phoenixes themselves would admit their toughest challenge is the Grid Corps of Drawkland. The third-ranked Corps are struggling. The last time they were on a football field, they were losing to a nameless bunch from Caliland. The last time they were on this football field, the Metro Arena, they were hanging their heads as the Buffalostan Janissaries - yes, the same - took a huge scalp. Delaclava needs a statement win; Drawkland just needs a win.

I. Drawkland 6, Delaclava 0. Jackie Morris has just gotten free on a double move and waltzes in with the crisp pass from Dustin Beck. The Grid Corps are finally in familiar territory - at home and ahead - and they are going for two points because that's what the Grid Corps do. Dustin Beck takes the snap, rolls right and feints a toss to Jack Hoy. He looks up as if to find a receiver but he's going to keep this. The Phoenixes haven't bitten on any of this and Jesse Rhine pulls him down for no gain, no score. Still 6-0. No matter for the Corps - they have the lead, now on to the next one.

II. Drawkland 12, Delaclava 10. The Phoenixes reclaimed the lead with a touchdown, an extra point, and a field goal, but the high-powered Drawkians got back to business, pushing up the field and capping off with a Jack Hoy run. Drawkland's play-caller digs into the playbook, and they've got something ready. Beck lines up behind center. But Donovan Hugo is in motion, and the snap is going to him - but Hugo doesn't even keep it, just turns and flings it right back to Beck while continuing left. Beck follows towards him, but Odon Ramanatsoa has stayed with Hugo. All Beck can see is a slight opening towards Morris. As soon as Beck lets it go, Luke Mussett is right there and the young cornerback knocks it down, beating his chest. Drawkland will take the lead into the locker room, but at a cost: they are used to being aggressive and getting their way. The Phoenixes aren't letting them have it. Will that doubt creep in again?

III. Delaclava 16, Drawkland 12. Justin Vandaele has been a problem for the Drawkian secondary all day. Taurus Wright has been a problem for everyone for three years. They finally connect for a 33 yard touchdown, Vandaele performing a swan dive into the end zone as Daniel Ericson pushes him in frustration. Now, a five-point lead would be nice; a six-point lead gives the Phoenixes options. It's their turn to try for two. So they trade Conley for Conley - kicker Kieran for running back David (no relation). Wright lines up in the shotgun and hands off to the power back, who is practically a cannonball at the knees of the Drawkian line. Conley bulls through and is rewarded with two points. Delaclava 18, Drawkland 12. The Phoenixes are in control, and the Grid Corps are starting to lose at their own game.

IIII. Delaclava 24, Drawkland 12. After Noah Simmons' mad dash for the right corner, making his way past the linebackers, a two-point conversion is the obvious call here. It'll put up the Phoenixes by 14 points, a full two touchdowns with the kicks. The Drawkland defense knows it's coming. Taurus Wright knows they know it's coming. The fans watch with fearful anticipation as Taurus Wright proceeds to do what elite playmakers do. There's no frills to this play, Wright just takes a snap right under center, rolls back a little bit and then out, gunning for that same corner where Simmons just went. It's a footrace between Wright and Travis Holt. It's just two yards, there's no room, Wright can't get wide enough to score. Oh, but he can. Wright takes one last lateral step, propels off his left foot and dives, precariously holding onto the ball as Wright and Holt crash in a heap to the turf. The ball smacks the pylon and both tumble to the ground. We have a good conversion! Taurus Wright is fired up and must be gently reminded by his also-celebrating teammates not to let Holt know it too much. If they haven't taunted Drawkland explicitly, they've certainly done it by turning the tables on this program today, in their own house. Delaclava 26, Drawkland 12.

V. Delaclava 26, Drawkland 18. Beck pipes it in to Quinn Conrad for one of the two touchdowns they need. An extra point makes it a seven-point deficit. A two-pointer makes it six. The kick is fine here, it's expected here. But it's Drawkland, so surely they're going to go aggressive? Nope, that's David Merit out for the one-pointer. Their lack of success has gotten in their head, it seems. So, fine, Lenny Black will snap it to Jared Flan and Merit will two-step this through the... no, Flan is up! He sidesteps past Merit and Donovan Hugo is wide open on a left post route! No quit and all fire, going for an unnecessary but rewarding risk - that's the Grid Corps of old. They're still losing, but they're playing for the win - and the Phoenixes must stop one more time or they will lose.

Epilogue. The Phoenixes defense got it done, with Mussett knocking down a last-ditch airball for Preston Sawyer. What a game. The slumping Corps started with the lead, these two fine teams battled it out. The Phoenixes ended this game and the Corps briefly restarted it. Perhaps, if the five coin flips had gone differently, there would be a different result. We will see back in Catherina.

Offensive Player of the Game: Tom Ehrlich threw for 5 touchdowns but barely broke 200 yards passing as his team's rabid defense continually gave him great field position. With his targets spread around, it was Noah Langerud, who ground out nearly 200 yards on the ground, who was the offensive star. Had the team not pulled their starters after putting 47 points to 1 (more on that later) in the first half, he could have broken 200; as it was, he let Blair Driscoll take over, and the back-up had a nice screen pass catch for a score from Ryan Frazer, who after being brought in to replace Ehrlich initially succeeded only in trebling the opposition score when he made a stupid error, throwing an intentional grounding in the end zone.

Defensive Player of the Game: There were 2 sacks for laas’gug zervaggiill and 2 picks for Xochixaual Huitzilihuitl -- try saying that three times in a hurry! -- but everyone loves a big man touchdown, and Juggernaut Jacobs is a very big man. Hailing from the 4th millennium time bubble of the Five Great Deserts, his bulk is a considerable advantage when protecting his camel train from raiding parties, and as it turns, no impediment to rumbling in for a touchdown. After Kuruk Pitalesharo swiped loose the ball Jacobs picked it up and started running. By the end he was carrying two players on his back, but they just could not bring down someone of his immense size. Possible audition for a role as fullback?

Special Teams Player of the Game: Tommy Herschlag was the only starter on the field by the fourth quarter. The #2 wide receiver wasn't running routes, though: he was performing his secondary role, as team punter. Normally a team punting so much is sign of a flagging offense, but after criticism of running up the score in their last game, the Janissaries were desperately trying to give the ball away. Kudos to Tommy for jogging out and booting the ball away, knowing full well he'd be back in a couple of minutes as the Caliland offense flailed and failed.

WTF Moment of the Game:

"If thees muthafucka kick me in hyed again, I take ball away!" Vadim Vyacheslavovich was not best pleased to see Krurv trotting out for an extra point rather than Jaessa Kimimoto-Chávez.

"KRURV WANT KICK."

"Kicking into ball not hyed!"

"KRURV KICK!"

"That's it! You kick me in hyed again! I going home!"

HENZA CENTER, D'REA, CAPITAL DISTRICT - When Jere Rinaldi emerged as a great middle linebacker for the Staramara Tech University Lava, the Iron Legion decided to field two middle linebackers, alongside perennial superstar Park Mi-Hyeon.

Six games into the Group Stage, that decision is paying dividends. Park is making sure Rinaldi gets to the right places, and Rinaldi is being the physical presence that the team needs to win.

The Iron Legion have yielded 7.67 points per game, best in the competition. Even with Sarai Gwenderyn and the offense struggling from time to time, they have maintained their perfect record - one of three teams in the tournament to have not dropped a single game.

They'll need the two to play well if they're to win the return leg of games against South Newlandia and Ko-oren. The Iron Legion have all but clinched the playoffs, and are getting closer and closer to clinching the group title that they'll need to avoid the first round of the playoffs.

"It's nice to work in tandem," admitted Park, "Jere is a great player whose prowess I've seen time and time again, and we really work together."

"It's like having the best of both worlds," states Gwenderyn, "This defense is for real."

Hi HUElavia. It does feel so good to see you back. I almost kind of forgot that you were here in the first place. I even thought you might have turned your back to the whole competition. But you just couldn’t resist, could you? You couldn’t resist the temptation to come back for at least one more game and make sure that you get one more chance to screw over the Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft, couldn’t you? You just had to come back and make sure that the Armored Revolutionaries couldn’t have the last laugh, and you had to make sure that you played a part, no matter how big or miniscule, in Abanhfleft potentially not getting out of this World Bowl group! Do you feel happy about that, HUElavia? Do you feel like a man for putting an entire nation through yet another emotional rollercoaster just so you could continue watching us squirm with every single possibility that could result in the Armored Revolutionaries missing out on yet another World Bowl challenge? Well, do you?

The Armored Revolutionaries were doing very well in the World Bowl before the interference of the HUElavians, thank you very much. The only blemish on Abanhfleft’s record before this was that loss against Sarzonia, and even then Abanhfleft never really looked like they had the upper hand in that game. The Stars were in control for pretty much the whole game, and the two touchdowns that the Armored Revolutionaries got then were both scored in garbage time, long after the result had been decided in favor of our rival nation in lacrosse. Could the rivalry be spreading from one sport to another? For the teams themselves, maybe not. But for the fans, oh yes. Definitely yes. And it’s pretty much the same thing between Abanhfleft and HUElavia. A rivalry that had begun in soccer has now found its way into a myriad of other sports, and right now the rivalry has spread to gridiron too. Well, maybe the teams themselves don’t see it that way, but the Fleftic fans most certainly do. And of course it’s Fleftic fans who are making almost one hundred percent of the noise associated with this “rivalry.” I don’t even know if HUElavians are aware that we now consider them a sporting rival or if they only care about the fact that their national team won yet another game. But one thing’s for certain: every time an Abanhfleft team loses to a HUElavia team, no matter the sport, our fans are only going to get even angrier.

And we started off so strongly as well. It almost always seems like the case every time Abanhfleft faces off against HUElavia. Abanhfleft gets a strong start, then in the second half HUElavia inevitably gets the second wind that they need to not only overcome whatever deficit they may have had against Abanhfleft but also to turn things around and put us on the hot seat instead of them. The offense was chugging along nicely for the Armored Revolutionaries at the start, even if the results of all that were only a touchdown and a field goal. We clearly had the drop on the HUElavians early on but then their defense stiffened up and reduced our receivers’ chances of getting on the end of Wes Soderlund’s passes as time went on. And the more stifled the Armored Revolutionaries became, the freer the HUElavians became as well. You can easily see it in the box score: Abanhfleft 7-3-0-0, HUElavia 0-0-3-7. And my God, that touchdown of theirs to force overtime was easily enough to crush the hopes and dreams of many a Fleftic fan that this was finally the tournament that we would have the upper hand on these blokes in yellow. And just to make sure that said hopes were crushed like a fine powder, HUElavia won the overtime toss, chose to receive, and scored a bastard touchdown just like that. They really must hate us with a passion, even if they themselves don’t know a thing about it.

One disappointment over, and it’s most likely straight into another one. Our next game is against Sarzonia, and as we’ve seen before, they are no pushovers at all. In fact, in the last time, it was the Armored Revolutionaries whom the Stars pushed over so easily. Does this mean that we should be prepared to see a 4-1 record turn into 4-3 in the span of two games? Probably. But then again, HUElavia beat us after we beat them in the first half of the group stage. Maybe we can turn things around on the Stars and beat them after they beat us. Let’s all hope though that they won’t have us in the first half, or the second half, or the entirety of the game. A man can hope, right? Mustafa Bensoussan, Mustafa Bensoussan, Mustafa Bensoussan...

Finally a victory, and yet the PIlgrims' performance is arguably worse than in some of their losses. The score could have been higher, as the offense failed to convert on many third downs and the defense failed to keep Caleonia from maintaining possession and occasionally finding the back of the end zone. Either way, a well-deserved win after some tough losses, particularly debutante Great America.

Fraternities of New Gesem, pt 4 “The Fraternal Military”
The military is one of the most visible arenas where fraternities wield power. The Gesemite constitution does not provide for a standing military; instead it outlines a system of charters. A charter is a document authorizing the creation of an ad hoc military formation, typically described as a regiment, of a specific size and composition, for a specific purpose and duration in a specific location. Upon completion of its chartered mission, a regiment is officially demobilized and disbanded. Charters are proposed by the executive and voted on by the Assembly, and are one of the least restrictive legislative measures, requiring only one executive to sponsor and a simple majority to pass.

While New Gesem has yet to fight a war outside its borders, multiple charters are passed each year for training and modernization to ensure levies are trained and prepared to fight if called upon. Strategic planning and oversight is provided by the Alexandria Regiment, which serves as a de facto joint headquarters and provides mission command of various full-time contingency elements. Below the national level, fraternities provide regimental commanders and staff on a full-time basis, paying their salaries when they are not covered by an ongoing charter. Below the regimental level, battalion commanders are often full-time and employed as staff officers when not chartered, while company-level leadership is typically elected from among the levies in a given charter.

Generally speaking, each of the major fraternities supports one regiment, with those commanders and staffs wearing fraternally-appointed uniforms and reporting to the lodge leadership except when activated under a charter. Charters are highly competitive, and lodges spend considerable resources to ensure their respective regiments are able to accept charters that are offered to them. Many lodges conduct a de facto basic training, typically once per year in the summer, in order to prepare their levies and identify company- and platoon-level leaders.

Offensive Player of the Game: It was a tough day for the Janissaries' offence after two blowouts had perhaps let it get away from them what the demands would be against tougher defences. Anne Boyer neutralized Zebulon Badgerfarmer brilliantly and though Percy Whitehead let Tommy Herschlag reel in a couple of big catches, one of which he took to the house, the cornerback also jumped a route for an exciting, zig-zagging 66 yard interception return to put his team on the goal line for power back Kaitlan Deacon to punch it in. Noah Langerud just could not get his wheels going at all (don't worry, he doesn't literally have wheels, that's octodawson alixer); Tom Ehrlich went too defensive after throwing that early interception. There were some positives: once more, the ferocious Kohnhead pass rush was contained to a single sack as Brandon Starbuck and Aukanai’i Olina stood tall, while Juggernaut Jacobs celebrated his new fullback role, bashing in a 4th-and-goal conversion as Krurv looked on jealously. But the offensive standout was tight end Devajee Hardy, with 5 catches and more than 100 yards for the first time, including a touchdown where he beat Phillip Haney downfield. A "modern" tight end, as much as that term means anything in Buffalostan, Hardy's versatility on offense provided Ehrlich with valuable second reads as the Kohnhead cornerbacks swallowed his primary receivers.

Defensive Player of the Game: Xochixaual Huitzilihuitl grabbed yet another interception, but he also got beaten up in coverage by Marco Polisson. Benjamin Clubb had three quarterback hits and three tackles for loss, including 1 sack, but he wasn't able to do much when Byron Joseph hit Billy James for regular third down conversions in the middle of the field. The best player on defense was probably Sam Reid, given the unenviable job of handling Herman Whitworth. For sure, Whitworth scored twice, but overall he was limited to just 63 yards, quite below his usual best. Reid's dogged tackling led the team with 7 solo and 5 assists, including 3 for loss, and he even jarred loose a fumble that gave the Janissaries prime field position. (That the subsequent drive ended in a blocked field goal and Whitehead returning the ball for six wasn't Reid's fault!)

Special Teams Player of the Game: Not really a banner day for special teams. Nathan Kennedy had a 96 yard punt return called back for a block in the back by Jennings Horgan; Tommy Herschlag shanked a punt of his own and saw Kenneth Bradson run it back only for the return to be nullified by a holding call. Ryan Frazer did a better job of holding than Vadim Vyacheslavovich had, at least not running out of the end zone with the ball while yelling Russian obscenities about "mammoth fuckers", but R3qu31m7X1Tyste still snapped the ball over his head on one play, while he didn't get the ball down quickly on another kick, leading to a block and return six. But credit to Manoël Arsenault who blocked both a PAT and a field goal -- sadly the Janissaries weren't able to turn the latter into a score as the Brains had.

Two dominant home performances follow blowout loss to TJUN-ia as the team prepares for a trip to St. Kanye

ST. KANYE- Every tournament group stage tends to have high points and low points. Unless you're insanely dominant, aka Ranoria at World Bowl XLII, or Banijan basketball at the IBCs in general, you are going to have ups and downs. High points and low points. And while this group stage is not much more than halfway over, the Banijans have experienced some high points and low points, so far. But with plenty of time to play, we have potentially more to go- on either side.

High Points

Anytime you beat a top 5 team at home, that is a cause for celebration. Even if you are also in the top 5. Banija's defeat of the Surge at the Stadium of the Restoration was a big-time win, for morale, for confidence, to show the rest of the tournament that the Serpent Eagles were here, and ready to compete. "I think that was the team's warning shot at the rest of the tournament." Said former NT superstar and current TV analyst, Isaka Jawara. "The way we were able to move the football on offense so effectively, racking up points and continuously moving the ball, especially through the air, just shows the many ways that we are capable of beating you. And the creativity that we sprinkled throughout the playbook- well, it's a testament to the belief that the coaching staff have in these guys. Flea flickers, lots of misdirection- the Surge's defense is incredibly talented. The best way to beat them is to confuse them, and ensure that they hesitate. We timed our misdirection well to ensure that we had big play capability, and the boys executed."

This group has a clear top 3 and bottom 3, and Banija is a clear cut member of the top 3, alongside TJUN-ia and St. Kanye. Winning games against those two will go a long way towards the Banijans achieving their goal of not only making the knockout stages, but earning the first round bye that winning your group comes with. Winning games against other teams in the top 3 garner respect for the Serpent Eagles around the multiverse. Another high point was their emphatic response to their blowout loss in TJUN-ia. Losses happen- but it's how you respond to them that show the character of your team. Do you drown yourselves in pity and despair? Or, instead, do you come out more motivated? We had a pair of home games against teams much less talented than us, yes. But we dispatched them exactly as we should, scoring 100 points in massive home wins over our last two games. That will give us confidence in our trip to St. Kanye.

Low Points

We had some ugly wins against teams worse than us in the first half of group play. But the winner here is obvious. Our loss to TJUN-ia. Now, of course, everything that we want to do is still in front of us. But TJUN-ia sits at 6-0, in sole possession of first place in the group. We certainly need a road win at St. Kanye if we want to have a chance to win this group, and that will not be an easy thing to do here in Week 7. But that game, in that incredible atmosphere, we were thoroughly outplayed. By every measure. They lit us up for 51 points, which of course you never want to allow as a defense. Especially when you have a defensive-minded coach like Thomas Hall- who said that the game almost "gave him an aneurism."

Aftew somehow making it through the first 5 games of the season with no losses or Overtime at all to speak of, Gridiron in TJUN-ia was suddenly white-hot. Going 5-0, with big wins over Banija at home and Saint Kanye on the road, would certainly do that and while the increased attention on the Jags was certainly nice, but Gus McKerrin certainly stressed that all this added pressure had to be pushed aside in order for Jake Griffin and his team to press on no matter what. The Field of Dreams in The Gardens was very receptive to their team tonight as the Blue and Orange were joined by a bit of Amerikan Red, White and Blue for "Star-Spangled Night" against the United States of Great America.

This game would be all about celebrating the culture of the local region while trying to avoid being caught sleeping by a team who at least have won 2 games in this group stage. They certainly looked threatening in this contest, as that 16-0 opener showed, and they even managed a FG on their opening drive - for the only points they managed in this entire game. Griffin would be the mastermind tonight, pulling all the strings with a TD in every quarter and showing off TJUN-ian might no matter what. Q1 was an 11-yard rush by Vinny Mac, Q2 was a 23-yard pass to Hubert Valois, Q3 was a 1-yard QB sneak and Q4 was a 3-yard carry by Klaveon Tyrell. Chi On-Ma had a bit of a comeback night, going 3/4 on his PATs and showing the consistency that wasn't present against the Surge last week. All in all, it was another win and you'll never say no to 6-0 at all.

The rematch with New Gesem on the road is up next, a team with only 1 win thus far and certainly not doing well as a ranked team. Many to expect another win the board here, but the Pilgrims wasn't ranked 31st in the world due to a fluke - they have a good team, it's just not on form at the moment. We should remember that fact as we enter enemy territory once more...GO JAGS!

After suffering a 26-13 beatdown at the hands of the TJUN-ia Jaguars, St. Kanye Surge quarterback R.J. Linetti told reporters, "The Jags played well, but we were uncharacteristically bad. That's not how we normally are. Anyway, it's just a minor setback, and come next week, we'll do our best to show you the R.J. Linetti and the St. Kanye Surge you're used to." Sure enough, Linetti made good on his word, and the Yeezies went back to their winning ways, demolishing the New Gesem Pilgrims on the road, 48-14, to improve to 4-2 in the World Bowl XLIII group stages.

Unlike during their first meeting in the tournament opener, the Surge never let the Pilgrims get close. Linetti made 30 out of 36 passes for 311 yards and three touchdowns - a far cry from his performance against the TJUN-ians in which he didn't even reach a hundred and also threw a pick. "The Jags essentially took R.J. out of the game last week," said Surge head coach Jeff Delphine. "He was a non-factor then. But today, the Pilgrims had no answer for him, and we won big. That's how vital he is to this organization."

New Gesem won the coin toss and elected to kick, only for Taylor Johns to take the ball all the way to the end zone for the first points of the game.

On the third play of the home team's ensuing drive, Justin Varley snatched Joshua Gonzales' pass in midair and barreled through the defenders on the way to a pick six, making it fourteen-nil before the Surge offense had even taken the field.

Linetti went with a twin tight end set for this scoring play, and Greg Malloy showed that he's not only good at returning punts as he caught the touchdown pass to put St. Kanye up by three possesions.

The Pilgrims finally got rid of that big egg on the scoreboard midway through the third quarter, Gonzales connecting with Nathaniel Pittman for the score.

James Rasputin booted the 39-yarder as time expired, giving the Surge a seventeen-point cushion as both teams retreated to the lockers.

The Pilgrims went three and out on the opening drive of the second half, but a fine punt by Chris Leblanc saw the Surge start from their own seven-yard line. It didn't matter though, as their long drive was capped by a short reception by the elder of the Kanyean fullback brothers, Nico Jackson.

With the help of some good blocking from the Yeezie offensive line, Linetti was able to showcase his scrambling ability as he dashed to the end zone late in the third period.

New Gesem sniffed the red zone for the first time since the second quarter, and also scored for the first time since then, Rayford Baker running to the right on the counter play.

Unfortunately for the Gesemites, Linetti wasn't done for the day, throwing on the run to Patrick Moore, who then made a diving catch to put the visitors up by thirty (thirty-one with the XP).

Despite being iced, Rasputin showed that it was he who had ice in his veins as he sank the long field goal to give us the final tally. The Pilgrims, a week after recording their first win of the tournament, tumble to 1-5.

Up next for St. Kanye is a rematch against the Banija Serpent Eagles squad that took them down 38-27 at the latter's home field. "This time we're at home, and considering how huge the support of the fans is for us, I'd say that could provide an advantage - at least a boost to the boys' morale," said Coach Delphine. "However, we can't just rely on that. We've studied their schemes, thought up ways to contain their offense as well as break through their defense." The Serpent Eagles rose to 5-1 after destroying Caleonia (0-6) by a score of 42-10. In the other Group C match, the Jags remained spotless at 6-0 after winning 27-3 against the United States of Great America (2-4).

Elsewhere...

- In Group A, the host Delaclava Phoenixes (6-0) had a nice win, dropping 69 points on Caliland (who scored 23 and also fell to 2-4).
- In Group B, HUElavia (3-3) outlasted the Abanhfleft Armored Revolutionaries (4-2) in the tournament's only game so far to need extra time, 16-10.
- In Group D, Lisander (1-5) notch their first dub at the expense of the Allamunnic States (2-4) by a score of 33-13.

The first half of qualifying for World Bowl XLIII seemed to be about the offence and getting used to new quarterback Cameron Stallworth. It also was heavy on Stallworth getting acclimated to international gridball.

The second half may not necessarily be about the defence, but they pitched a badly-needed shutout and Sarzonia defeated Cordia 13-0 to rebound from a second poor defensive outing in three matches.

Defensive coordinator Kyle Hanley decided to play more eight-man fronts and use run blitzes on obvious running downs and implemented a variety of defensive looks including nickel packages, six, and even seven defensive backs in passing situations. Most importantly, however, Hanley eschewed the so-called prevent defence late, resulting in a sack and a forced fumble with 1:24 remaining.

"[Manager Gavin Davis] told me to play our normal aggressive defence against them," Hanley said. "He's a big believer in playing the same way when it's been effective."

Stallworth may have started his first match against Cordia by throwing 10 passes in the first 15 scripted plays, but only attempted five passes in the first 15 plays this time. He completed an 11-yard screen pass to running back Ty'Relle Clinton on the first play from scrimmage, then a 24-yard strike to wide receiver Stevr Swain on third and 11 to set up a one-yard touchdown plunge from Clinton. Matt Vargas missed the extra point after two holding penalties pushed the attempt to 53 yards out.

"That was inexcusable," Davis said of the penalties. "We're going to have to get that sorted. It's too late to be making those kinds of mistakes."

Stallworth found Matt Largent wide open on a post pattern deep later in the first quarter and Vargas was true on the extra point. From there, the Stars held Cordian running back Garrett Barrett to 37 yards on 19 carries. Hanley said containing him was vital to Sarzonia's defensive game plan.

"He went off on us last time," Hanley said. "We had to prevent him from beating us." Hanley decided to dare quarterback Emanuel Ostergaard to beat them and, well, he couldn't. He completed 20-for-37 passes for 193 yards and three interceptions and Sarzonia sacked him five times.

As for Stallworth, he finished the day 11-for-18 for 172 yards and the touchdown to Largent. He also ran four times for 37 yards. Clinton rushed 29 times for 128 yards.

Sarzonia will travel to Abanhfleft for a match that is taking on huge importance as both teams are fighting to remain one of the three teams from Group B to advance to play in Delaclava. No matter how solid it is (or tries to be), Gridiron Football in Lisander is still not professional. The more correct term is perhaps "subsidised". Due to the financial inconstancy caused by the NAFL (an entity that acts as both Federation and National League), Gridiron Football in Lisander survives mostly on small sponsorships and the pockets of its own players, who are amateurs. Another obstacle to the growth of this sport in Lisander is the unintended association made with Rugby League, an ever-frowned-upon code in the country, which is kind of devoted to the Rugby Union.

There are also other problems that plague this sport in the nation. But maybe the most awkward is the Governance. For the last years, the organisation of the competitions has been split. Dissonances on the management and running of the tournaments made the former Association of Gridiron Football Athletes divide in those who decided to keep as amateurs, the Federação Lisanderiana de Futebol Americano and those who preferred to seek a career from the game, establishing professional teams under the rules of private companies, the "National American Football League". Both factions argue to decide who's the rightful representative of the community.

As it was unable to score a deal with FLFA who retained the national team rights, NAFL decided to push themselves to Arena Football, the cheapest variant, ignored by the amateurs. They got some nice results, like a third place in the last Arena Bowl. Recently, this situation between FLFA and NAFL came partly to an end, when after two World Bowls and a half, FLFA finally admitted its incapacity to field athletes of the best quality. It's already clear that NAFL can provide the best players, after all, they have achieved some nice results being provided with sponsors and partnerships.

From the sixth matchday of World Bowl XLIII, NAFL took the reins of the national team. Selecting from all the available semi-pro, college and amateurs, a panel composed by eight NAFL head coaches, led by League Comissioner (temporary), Sebastian Garnier, formed a team. To coach it, the head coach of Soria Sabres, current NAFL Champions, Marian Slaviero.

Ranoria Makes it Vice Jackson III's Show and Racks Up 289 Rushing Yards Against United Adaikes

Ranoria generally passes the ball around the yard, but if something else is working, why stop? Vice Jackson, Emilio Annaise, and Melvin Strong were all featured heavily in this one, with John Garrett passing the ball just 14 times and running it once.

"We may have the best quarterback in football," said head coach Raul Nieler at a press conference this week, "But ultimately when you throw the football only three things can happen, and two of them are bad. If we can run the ball all game and dominate that way, that's what we're going to do." And they did. The team's lead back finished with 23 carries while Emilio Annaise and Melvin Strong tallied 13 and 10, respectively, dividing up the workload nicely to avoid any sort of fatigue for a trio of talented runners on this team.

Things were looking up when Ranoria scored on each of their three opening possessions - two field goals and an Emilio Annaise touchdown - to take a 13-3 lead. With a two-score lead and a team that was having trouble moving the ball, it made sense to play the clock, with Vice Jackson III hammering in a score late in the third quarter to put this thing on ice at 20-3. No one has the audacity or ignorance to stand up and say the Krauts have the best back in football, but Jackson III's been a beast for this team nonetheless. He finished the day with 164 rushing yards and a touchdown.

How's the rest of the group doing?

With Abahnfleft's(4-2) stunning overtime loss to HUElavia(3-3), Ranoria has retaken the lead in the group, though both Sarzonia(4-2) and the Armored Revolutionaries are of course licking their chops for their chances to take down the top team in this tournament and give themselves a chance at winning the group. The second to last group stage game of course, will feature Abahnfleft visiting the superdome in a game where they'll have the opportunity to take Ranoria's spot at the top of Group B with a victory. Sarzonia, however, is effectively out of that race.

Their offense seems to have cooled off after the 55-24 thrashing they received in the Superdome. In their following matches, they've put up 10, 12, and 13 points as QB Cameron Stallworth has struggled, even being benched at one point in a blowout loss to HUElavia. If they can't find their footing soon, they're going to be in trouble with Ranoria coming to visit in two weeks. While it's nearly impossible for them to take the tiebreaker on Ranoria even with a win with the point differential, they still have a shot at securing the second spot in the group, and are currently tied with Abahnfleft for 2nd at 4-2.

And Some Interesting Trends From The Krauts!
First off, the big shocker - despite John Garrett having 15 touchdown passes to this point, the Krauts have actually run the ball more than they've thrown it. Even counting in Garrett's five scrambles as passing plays and accounting for the eight sacks he's taken, the Krauts have only called a passing play 168 times through 6 games. Meanwhile, Vice Jackon III, Emilio Annaise, and Melvin Strong have all done more than their fair share. The three-headed monster at running back has carried the ball 205 times as the Krauts have just pounded the opposition into submission by running the football.

With Emilio Annaise being the smallest of the bunch at 6 foot tall and 215 pounds, Ranoria averaging 34 total carries a game is undoubtedly having an impact. Garrett has thrived off the resulting play action passes to the tune of nearly 10 yards per attempt and a 15/2 TD/INT ratio on the campaign.

With an offense humming along nicely at 27 points per game and the defense allowing under 10, Ranoria has looked very strong outside their stunning loss to Abahnfleft. However, it's a bit alarming to see that the team's star pass rusher, Angelo Gordon, hasn't looked so hot. The edge rusher was a monstrous force in World Bowl 42, racking up six sacks and hitting another gear in the playoffs as the spearhead of this defense, but after a neck injury two seasons ago in domestic play, he's clearly lost a step. Through six games in World Bowl 42, he racked up 24 tackles and 6 sacks to go along with a pair of forced fumbles. This go round, he's currently sitting at 17 tackles and just 2.5 sacks. While still a ferocious player, that quick-twitch speed-to-power transition he's had in the past just doesn't seem to be present anymore. Fortunately, the guys on the back end have picked up the slack.

Darnell Sleight - with two interceptions on the year - looks nearly back to his old form, rarely allowing deep receptions and having not surrendered a touchdown this season while new signing Judas Wolfson has been as advertised - a playmaker wherever he's line up on the field. He's taken a leadership role on this defense as the Krauts push towards the end of the group stage hoping to hold onto the #1 spot in Group B.

Krauts Take Care of Business Against HUElavia, Prepare To Nail The Coffin On Falling Stars

Despite racking up their sixth win and knocking HUElavia back into the losing records club, Ranoria hasn't quite clinched the group or even the playoffs yet. Regardless, it was a clean if not spectacular showing for the club as they defeated their opponent 24-16. With only Abahnfleft within a game of the group lead, Ranoria is in control of their own destiny as far as winning the group is concerned and earning a quarterfinal bid.

While on paper the win may not look impressive, HUElavia had hit a hot streak - downing Sarzonia in a dominant 40-12 showing before winning in overtime in an edge-of-your-seat showdown with the Armored Revolutionaries. The two wins helped Ranoria's bid to win Group B, sure, but they were looking strong. But once that train's last stop was in Ranoria City, where the Krauts proved they can beat even a streaking squad. QB Maurício Pinto Machado
completed 22 of 38 passes for 235 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. He also fumbled three times, losing two of them.

Why The Krauts Won

The Krauts are disciplined enough to not panic when a team manages to land the first blow. Even after HUElavia scored on their opening possession and held the lead through most of the second quarter, the home team never showed any signs of freelancing or trying to play hero ball. They stuck to the plan and got the job done.

Ranoria also may not have won on Sunday without an impressive performance from Ross Monarch. As the centerpiece of the second best defense in the tournament, he racked up tackles in this one, including a pair of pivotal stops that we'll get into later.

Why HUElavia Lost

After putting up ten points in the first half, their offense stalled and hard. For a team as hot as they'd been, once they were forced to punt twice in a row it seemed that they became aggressive, causing critical errors that would result in three takeaways by Ranoria.

Later in the contest, Machado sailed several passes high in the and struggled to hold onto the ball as well when he failed to get the ball off before a relentless pass rush got home. HUElavia's strength is their offense, and they did well putting up 16 against the second best defense in the World Bowl, but we can't help but think there were missed opportunities to change the outcome.

Turning Point

With just minutes left in the fourth quarter down 8 points, HUElavia was driving in enemy territory to try and force a second consecutive overtime game. The drive soon stalled however, leading to a 4th and inches on the thirty yard line. Here, HUElavia made the mistake of running for it. While many old-school fans appreciate the mentality, Ranoria's defensive line is one built of monsters. They reset the line of scrimmage and kept the offensive line off of Ross Monarch, who crashed through the gap while running back Leonardo Guimarães Chagas tried to bounce the run outside. Monarch ran straight through the runner to force a three yard loss that would effectively end the game, at which point Vice Jackon picked up a first down before John Garrett kneeled it out.

What's Next?

Sarzonia's had a tough draw - with two other teams from our own preseason power rankings in their group. And unfortunately, they haven't quite been able to stack up. After a 2-0 start, they lost a 55-24 shootout against Ranoria and haven't managed to put up 20 points since, with first-year NT starter Cam Stallworth even being benched at one point.

However, at 4-3, the Stars aren't out of it yet, and they showed early on that they have the capability to win consecutive games and get hot. If they win out, they could still make the playoffs, and with some help could even with the group. However, if they lose in Sarzonia, they'll be in trouble. At 4-4 to Ranoria's 7-1, they'd be unable to win the group and would be vying for a second place spot. So for a team that's been struggling of late, they'll have to right the ship fast to make anything of this season.

And for Ranoria, Abahnfleft is nipping on their heels, and doesn't look to be slowing down any time soon. The Armored Revolutionaries shut out the Krauts earlier in the campaign, and thus currently hold the tiebreaker - Ranoria would do well to keep a game of separation between them, otherwise they'll have to beat one of the better teams in football by more than a touchdown to win the group again.

"LET'S GO SURGE! ZAP THOSE BIRDS! LET'S GO SURGE! ZAP THOSE BIRDS!"

If you think the St. Kanye Surge supporters' section during their World Bowl away games is noisy, it's nothing compared to what one would hear whenever the team plays at home at the Pencurve Electronics Field. That especially held true during their Week 7 rematch (not to mention "revenge match") against the Banija Serpent Eagles. From the moment both teams marched onto the turf, until the referee blew his final whistle, the fans kept chanting those six words, hoping to hype up not only each other, but also the Yeezie players themselves. Did it work though? Were they able to zap the Banjies and even their series at one win apiece? The answer to that, according to the scoreboard, is a resounding yes - Surge 52, Serpent Eagles 30.

The second meeting between the two top five sides started out a tight affair, just as the first one was, and in both instances, the home team would pull away after the break. Surge quarterback R.J. Linetti had another marvelous night, throwing 32 of 37 for 346 yards and three touchdowns (QBR 132.66) and rushing for another. "It sure feels good, not only to get back at an opponent like this, but beat them by more than they beat us as well," he said. "We took that loss against them as something to learn from, and it worked in our favor." Added head coach Jeff Delphine, "Despite us outsmarting them this time, I still hold a high level of respect for the entire Serpent Eagles organization. Any team who'll be facing them should be preparing as seriously as we did, in order to have a fighting chance." Coach Delphine was later seen shaking hands with his Serpent Eagle counterpart Thomas Hall at midfield.

The Surge struck first, and struck quickly at that. Ensa Faye barely had time to react to Bruce Dobler catching the pass and outrunning him and the rest of the Banija defense on the way to the score.

A false start penalty and a Simon Carver sack saw the Serpent Eagles start their first drive at their own five-yard line, but it didn't prove to be a problem as they advanced the ball with every play and capped off the drive with an Ikem Orjea TD.

From midfield, Linetti almost took the ball all the way to the house, but he was tackled at Banija's fifteen-yard line. The Kanyeans would still score though, on a short pass to Dobler, his second end zone visit of the contest.

Wideout Chinweuba Jelan showed the same explosiveness he had shown five games ago as the lead seesawed back to the Serpent Eagles.

Linetti made several tacklers miss as he took the ball in for the score, putting the home team back ahead with just ninety seconds to go in the first half.

This was, in all likelihood, the play that swung the momentum in the Surge's favor. The Serpent Eagles decided to make it a tied ballgame at the half, sending in Komani Achaje for the field goal attempt with ten seconds remaining. But Yeezie strong safety Axel Bartlett was able to knock down the kick into the hands of free safety Raheem Kerrigan, and Kerrigan would score, making it a ten-point St. Kanye lead at halftime.

The visitors had the ball to start the second half, but they failed to capitalize as the blitz-happy Kanyean defense forced them into a three and out. Travis Galubasi punted to Greg Malloy, who ended up taking it all the way for the biggest lead of the game by either team so far.

On second and 2 at St. Kanye's 40, Chineze handed the ball to Sello, trusting him to gain those couple of yards to move the chains (and maybe even some more). Sello sprinted, going past the marker.... and into the path of Justin Varley. The collision caused Sello to drop to the ground and drop the ball, which was then picked up by Oliver Law and returned to Banija's 25. Two plays later, the Surge have more than doubled up on the Serpent Eagles' score.

Lamin Kah would have been the recipient of a 60-yard bomb from Chineze, but upon review, he would be ruled out of bounds. Two more incompletions later, Banija would settle for three, but while it wouldn't get blocked this time, it was still a three-touchdown St. Kanye lead.

Varley's hit on Sello looked serious initially, but the Banijan back would end up returning in the final frame. He ran the ball 43 yards to the Surge's 24, setting up a Chineze pass to Jelan to cut the deficit to fifteen. It would have been only thirteen, though, if Law hadn't deflected the two-point conversion intended also for Jelan.

The Yeezies stayed on the ground throughout this drive in order to eat as much clock as possible. Noah Sherman ran the first 67 yards, Linetti the next ten, and Nico Jackson took care of the last three (as well as the six points).

With the revenge win, the Surge catch up to the Serpent Eagles at 5-2, with the former now in second place in Group C on head to head. The TJUN-ia Jags continue to top the group, pushing their perfect record to 7-0 on a 29-3 win over the New Gesem Pilgrims (1-6). The United States of Great America (3-4) continue to prove that they are the better of the group's two unranked sides, completing a sweep of Caleonia (0-7) with a 33-23 victory.

The World Bowl XLIII playoff picture is slowly taking shape, with the Jags being the only ones in the group assured of a trip to Delaclava as of now, and Caleonia being eliminated. Here's how things are looking in the other three groups:

- In Group A, Delaclava beat Pius Desurongcrandis anew in the Battle of the Phoenixes, 25-13. The hosts (7-0) book their postseason tickets; Pius D., at 1-6, is surprisingly still in the running, but cannot have a first round bye.
- In Group B, the Cordian Isles North Stars (3-4) send United Adaikes (0-7) packing their bags, defeating them 17-nil.
- In Group D, the South Newlandia Elephants (4-3) take the Chromatika Iron Legion's undefeated record away, beating them 31-20. Despite falling to 6-1, the Legion have qualified for the playoffs as well.
