Hello everyone, and welcome to Raider’s Gambit. Raider’s Gambit is a character RP in which you play as the crew of the Misguided Faith, a heavy cruiser that turned to piracy instead of laying down her arms in the wake of losing her home. How will you seek adventure and riches as you ambush merchant ships, fight off the authorities, and out-maneuver ambitious rivals in the pieces of a shattered hegemon and states beyond its frontier? Who knows, you may just forge a legend when the dust settles. If you survive, of course.
This RP is a part of the Andromeda family of RPs, though there is absolutely no need to have read any of the others to participate here as this is a standalone RP in the setting.
This RP will remain open to newcomers. The Misguided Faith has a crew to pull from, and people freely leave and sign on as they please.
The wider Andromeda setting also has a Discord. It’s a good place to help find inspiration for a character concept, learn about the setting, or find help from the community as you are building a character for the RP. Or you can simply come and have a chat if you want. Our door is always open.
Taking a trading vessel from Ferahel was always a gamble, but they usually had the good sense to surrender instead of choosing to fight when given the choice. This time, however, the merchantmen had fired the first shot, leading to a fast, brutal battle once it became clear that the Misguided Faith was not going to be jumped by a task force.
Once aboard, there was a small but experienced force of majority Kiel Marines waiting trying to repel the boarding parties alongside mixed-species crew sailors who, while equipped for the task of repelling the boarding parties, proved entirely unwilling to die to the last man for their cargo. The crew of Misguided Faith seemed to luck out during the engagement, suffering no fatalities and about a dozen with assorted injuries.
While the tell-tale ozone from a fierce display of firepower still hung in the halls of the boarded ship, the fighting was mostly finished for Misguided Faith’s marines save for a squad of marines and the crew still sealed inside the bridge on the Commissar’s order. The orders for the crew of the Misguided Faith were simple, steal everything that wasn’t owned by most of the merchant crew, and get into the bridge, ideally without exposing the crew to unnecessary risk and without murdering the defenders.
Thellemnia Ashann went aboard the merchant vessel once the active fighting had wrapped up, passing the captured crew, primarily Shufrans and Kiels alike, as they were being marched to more controllable areas under the watchful eyes of the Misguided Faith’s marines. With every step she took towards the merchant ship’s bridge, the less obvious it had been that a fight had ever broken out in the ship.
The sounds of a few enterprising rummaging through assorted rooms for minor things to take were also apparent through the hallways, but she soon found them drowned out by the sound of the intercom crackling to life as she stopped by the group of marines on the entrance to the bridge.
“You are all cowards,” the voice, which Lady Ashann quickly guessed was the commissar, screamed in impotent rage over the speaker. The bridge had been locked out of pretty much all key functions at this point, and most everyone alive knew it. “Surrendering to such traitor scum. Dindriann will have you all in chains for this if you don’t fight these damned pirates!”
With a quick motion, Thelliemnia’s hand went to her own communicator.
“Can one of the engineers lock this bastard out of the intercom before he convinces someone to try something very stupid?” Ashann calmly ordered as she glared up at the speaker overhead.
She looked over the scattered marines with their improvised defenses around the main entrance to the bridge and softly sighed. “Does anyone have any ideas on getting through?”
