School lunches in YN 2

Postby Vrine » Sun Dec 12, 2021 11:46 am

I just reset this forum. Credit to hatterleigh for the original forum.

In Vrine, a typical school lunch will have a bacon and cheese sandwich. The cheese could vary, though the most popular are gouda and cheddar. Served also with a fruits box, and veggie box (Ussually potatoes) and sometimes student can bring from home a sweet treat, like wafers. On fridays, students may be served something more yummy, like Steak and fries, Fish and chips, Egg and steaks, etc. Though every 2 - 3 months, schools usually let students partake in the eating of some of the national dishes, like French pie, Autumn rolls, Vrinish omelette, etc.

Also, are lunches free or mandatory, are they even existent, In Vrine there is a choice between home lunch or school lunch, though school lunches are not free, though they are kind of cheap.

In Chernogovsk, a typical school lunch will consist of a Hovädzí kruh (A "Beef circle", which is a patty mixture of pork, beef, and lamb), a carton of milk and or juice, and a few small pieces of Slané pečivo (a pastry filled with ground beef, salt, peppers, onions, and oil). Since Prince Višeslav's coronation, schoolchildren are given an all-you-can eat buffet of popular dishes every year on the sixth of December.

In the GGG school lunches are carefully curated to be healthy, filling and cheap. Most will have some kind of legume as meat and fish are in short supply. Favorites in winter are bean stew and red lentil soup.

School lunches and breakfasts are, at least for now, fully provided by the occupational authorities and occupation troops from the Mafia-dominated regime in Trenton, New Jersey. The puppet municipal government has other concerns for now, such as creating itself from the remnants of the old City Hall.

School lunches aren't provided, lunch period is an hour of free roam for the students to get food. They go to nearby cafes or restaurants, they can even go back home to eat, like packing a lunch is something you'd do on a field trip not a normal school day. Schools are made accessible to each neighborhood in many places, and like rural schools may entice nearby vendors, schools are part of the community. We would never put schools out in the wild.

Sometimes, schools give families money on an as needed basis. Although food and welfare operate separate from education. We never had food served at schools. Universities often have kitchens and cafeterias, but that's it. Primary and secondary schools never had on sight eateries.

School lunches in Aikoland are provided free for all students, although students are also permitted to bring food from home as well.

In most schools, lunches are provided buffet-style, meaning that students choose what foods they would like to eat and serve themselves rather than having pre-prepared meals chosen by the school staff. It is required that schools provide a wide variety of foods and beverages in order to both facilitate student choice in their meals and so anyone, regardless of dietary requirements, will be satisfied with the options available.

As schools also have a requirement to provide a 'generally nutritious' meal to students, the amount of unhealthy foods such as snacks, candy, and soda provided to students at a school lunch buffet is sparse, with most schools offering nothing more than some sweet biscuits for students to have with their meal, although it is not uncommon for schools to offer cakes and other desserts during the lunch buffet for the last day of the school year as a special treat for the students. (There are no governmental restrictions on the bringing of unhealthy snacks from home, although that may vary depending on the school itself)

Primary and Secondary schools provide both recess (morning tea) and lunch to all students for free. In addition, students have the option to arrive at school earlier and receive breakfast as well, and those who participate in after-school extracurricular activities will typically be provided with afternoon tea.

Recess foods typically take the form of healthy snack foods (i.e. fruits, nuts, and other produce). Students can either bring their own food from home or else will be provided such. Students are generally permitted to retain their morning tea for consumption throughout the day if they do not finish it at the time.

Students can also opt to bring their own lunch, but most opt to instead complete a 'lunch order' each week, in which they select which foods they wish to have for lunch from a list provided by their school's canteen. Individual schools will have differing lists, though all must adhere to state and federal health guidelines (except for one day a week, typically a Thursday or Friday, on which a 'treat' lunch may be offered). Schools may also provide themed lunches for special occasions.

In Secondary schools, students who enter into culinary courses have the option of participating in the production of lunch for their peers, and will also hold special cookouts where their dishes will be offered in tandem with normal lunch.

Students who possess allergies are expected to avoid sharing potentially dangerous foods with their classmates, otherwise students are encouraged to share their food in a hygienic manner.

Most tertiary education institutions, such as universities and vocational colleges, expect their students to bring their own food or else source it from campus stores in-between classes. Universities are equipped with kitchen facilities for use by students and generally possess food courts.

School Lunches are typically offerings from 3-option menus. By law, one must always be fully vegan, and all must be fast-friendly in appropriate seasons unless the school is private and religiously affiliated with a different religious tradition. Students are permitted to bring whatever they or their parents want for their own lunch (within reason: no durians, rat poison, etc) on any particular day.

A typical weekly menu might look like this

Monday:
Option A: Beef Stroganoff and a bread roll
Option B: 2-piece Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy
Option C (V): Pasta Pomodoro

Tuesday:
Option A: Chicken Tikka Masala and Rice
Option B: Italian Sub Sandwich
Option C (V): Channa Masala and Rice

Wednesday (Fast):
Option A: Coconut Shrimp and Rice
Option B (V): Vegan Pierogi
Option C (V): Beyond Sausage Spaghetti

Thursday:
Option A: Chicken Noodle Soup.
Option B: Italian Sub Sandwich
Option C (V): Vegetable Borsht

Friday (Fast)
Option A (V): Butternut Squash Ravioli
Option B (V): Channa Masala and Rice
Option C (V): Vegetable Borsht

School Lunches vary according to region and individual school. :Like any free republic, the State government grants the land, the buildings and the physical plant operation. The parents and local community provide the cooks (or automat machines), culinary equipment, and the food for the meals. Students are allowed to volunteer with prepwork where done if it does not interfere with their grades.

Typically a student will select from a menu on their PDA (cell phones in Americanese) at lunchtime or even weeks before. The transaction is taken from their electronic wallet and the autochef prepares the available combination of foods into the desired meal. In parts of the country that eschew electricity this is done either with coinage pre-paid or cash at sale.

Beverages are fairly uniform across Narland and include milks (buffalo, cattle, bison, goat, and sheep are regional choices), assorted juices, non-caffeine teas, bottled water, and birch water (water infused with the inner lining of birch bark and blended with a dollop of cream).

Schools in the East of the Commonwealth tend to be Automats where the student is given a choice of prepackaged meals MRE style or a list of fresh prepared hot (or cold) meals of the day.

Schools in the Allemanery (such as the Amish) make their foods the old fashioned way. Once the rabbit, chicken, cabbage or whatnot is caught and dressed, it is then cooked and served.

Schools in the West of the Commonwealth tend to be volunteers from local families and restaurants that make the menu according to the local cuisine and traditions. Parents of students may participate in order to alleviate the cost charged to the student.

Schools in Butterbrook Canton do not serve meals. Students must bring their own. Every school has cubby sized coolers and several microwave ovens for each student to use. Food Vans (or chuck wagons where automobiles are shunned) with the requisite nutritional foods are allowed to curb in the school bus lane for students who want something not brought from home at lunch time.

Where ever in the Commonwealth fresh cooked meals are served, they tend to be well balanced and nutritional while still being enjoyable. A few times a month slack-days allow for the serving of "unhealthy" but popular foods such as cheese and onion pot pies, pigs in a blanket, Canastoga Spam casserole, and chili-dogs.

Narlandese palettes are accustomed to savory and somewhat bitter tastes (in a manner similar to southern Italy) such that American sweet would be considered too sickly sweet. Most deserts consist of fruits and melons, or sweatbreads (that most Americans would hardly find sweet at all).

In predominately Roman Catholic areas fish is served on fridays. In Narport out of tradition Narbuck Stew (a spiced lentil stew with corned antelope and sun dried tomatoes is served on every other Tuesday). Kosher foods are available where there are large Jewish populations, etc.

Many students get their driver's license at 14. For Middle School, and High Schools, those that are open campus are free to drive off campus to get their meals. Schools that have a working livery, the student may take their horse. Closed campus schools sometimes allow registered food vans or hawking stands to be set up at lunchtime.

All schools provide lunch at no cost for the student, and it usually differs greatly based on the season and on the location. From gravies and soups to sweet cakes, pizza and filled buns, you can find almost every kind of food in schools, as long as its produced locally. It is more common in smaller towns for food that is not prepared at school, usually baked goods or vegetables, to be bought from local producers, in order to lower costs, avoid processed food, and keep the local economy going. Students also have the option of buy industrialized snacks, but schools doesn't take responsibility on these products.

However, there is an ingredient too pervasive in Lisanderian schools menu: Minced meat. It can be cow or chicken, or even other animals depending on the location. Those who prefer "table food" usually eat it with rice or pasta. Those who prefer "grab food" can add it inside breads like the known milk bun (similar to pan de leche that nations of iberian heritage, but salty instead of sweet). Some schools also offer an option of textured soy protein, to students that doesn't eat meat.

Buns filled with cheese and diverse types of meat, as well as its sweet counterparts filled with jam, chocolate or other sweet fillings are common to those who like "finger food".

Overfilling a plate is frowned upon. Is most common (and less frowned upon) to have seconds, usually allowed in the last 15-20 minutes of the time given to lunch.

Community Schools provide free breakfast, morning teas and lunchtime options to all students. Extracurricular clubs and activities ritualistically prepare afternoon tea as well, it is a perk of joining them.

The meals prepared depend in the local culture in the region, however students are allowed to bring their own food from home too. It is not forbidden to eat during class, but students are heavily encouraged to clean up after themselves.

The standard ready-to-eat packages and frozen meals are food health authority certified, industrially streamlined food choices available to all school children regardless of geography. While kids nay choose to favor homely prepared meals, this is not always possible to keep fully supplied and so the standardized frozen meal packages were invented to solve this issue.

Culinary students in secondary school are given the privilege to join their school cafeterias and gain experience by preparing the food of their peers. This is heavily regulated to minimize the risk of contamination.

Allergy awareness is promoted, ensuring that people are aware and careful of who they share food with. The sharing of food is not common place due to the availability of nutrients but it is still nevertheless an option.

By tertiary education institutions and adult re-training institutions, students are bring their own food or else source it from campus stores in-between classes. Depending on the size, campuses are equipped with a cafe or kitchen facilities for use by students and may generally possess food courts if the land usage permits it.

School lunches here in Arpasia usually consists of mashed potatoes or Lisperian rice accompanied by meat stuffs such as: beef and chicken, the beef section is made up of sausages, hams, patties, etc. While the chicken section consists of chicken leg or wing, cutlets, and sometimes chicken jerky. Of course the meal wouldn't be complete without vegetables, loathed by a large portion of every schoolchildren! The vegetables section contains broccoli, Brussel sprouts, tomatoes (both solid and liquid form, and you know what I mean by liquid form), etc.

Some other schools across the country use packaged frozen ready meals.

The majority of schools in the Roman Republic are run by one of the members of the tripartite education group (consisting of the Cults of Minerva and Apollo Phoebus, the Jesuit order of the Cult of Christ, and the Pan-Judaic Council of Day Schools) which work closely together to standardize the secular and civic components of education. In these schools lunch is part of the school day and is leveraged for pedagogic purposes.

Participation in school lunch is mandatory and the bringing of food from home is prohibited except for exceptional circumstances, such as food allergies that cannot be accommodated by the daily menu. Religious and moral objections are not accommodated.

Typical meals are served in the school dining room with pupils seated at tables using normal place settings (plates, bowls, glasses/stemware, metal silverware, etc). From ages 3 to 11 students meals are prepared and served to the table by school staff. After age 11 students take it in turns throughout the year to participate in the preparation of the meal and to serve it to their classmates. In secondary school (ages 14+) students are fully responsible for the preparation and serving of meals (under the supervision of professional staff).

By regulation and agreement all meals consist of three courses. The first course is a light primarily vegetable or starch-based dish such as salad, soup, or pasta. The second course is the primary protein of the meal, usually a form of meat except during religious observances relevant to the cult running the school, and two vegetable accompaniments. The final course is the 'sweet' course and often consists of fruit and cheese or the occasional pastry, cake, or gelato. Each week, at least one meal is required to reflect a type of food served by a tribe other than the majority tribe at the institution, and one meal is required to reflect a culinary style outside the Republic. No more than 1 meal per week may have a deep-fried component.

All meals are accompanied by bread and water. Honeyed milk is offered for meals which do not otherwise include a serving of dairy products. Beginning at age 11, students are also instructed in appropriate levels of alcohol consumption and are offered watered wine with their meals. The water to wine ratio is gradually decreased until students are drinking only wine during secondary school.

The school menu is planned on a monthly basis. Prior to secondary school, the parent steering committee works with the kitchen to plan meals and purchase ingredients within the the budget provided by the school and dietary guidelines. At the secondary school level, the students in charge of preparation work with the kitchen to plan meals and purchase ingredients for the following week within the same guidelines. Such menus often reflect the local tribal cuisine and will generally cater to any religious restrictions observed by a reasonably large number of students.

A daily menu might resemble:
Mixed Green Salad with Burrata and Prosciutto Crudo
Chicken scaloppine al limone with roasted potatoes and asparagus
Piece of dark chocolate and figs
Locally sourced white wine
