Theocracy and YN || (Questionnaire + Survey)

Postby Evergar » Wed Aug 04, 2021 5:01 pm

Religious governments and their societies have existed throughout world history. They can be considered one of the oldest, longest-implemented forms of running a nation, with several still existing and visible in some parts of the globe today. Mankind from its prehistoric ages onward has always believed in the supernatural, been spiritual, practiced religion, and looked to the divine for answers about life's timeless mysteries.

Let's see how your nation relates to religious governance, if at all! I would love to read your responses!

(History - Open Response)
1) When did your country first become theocratic? In 1954, when the Crossoverian Revolution overthrew the king and brought Kais Al Abidine Baldemore into power.
2) Why did your country become theocratic in the first place? Two major reasons:
1: Almost all of Crossoveria is religious, either Hefflist or Muslim
2: Baldemore chose this system of government because he thought a theocracy in Crossoveria would be beneficial to their society.
There was no national referendum, by the way.
3) Has the power of your country's main religious governing body increased, decreased, of stayed about the same in the last 20 years? It’s been increasing
4) What has been the most threatening or ongoing kind of resistance against the theocratic establishment, if there even has been any? Resistance movements in Crossoveria. They are often rioters, but are extremely popular with liberals and opposition groups in Crossoveria.

(Modern Trends - Open Response)
1) On a scale of 1-10, how lenient or controlling is the current main religious authority toward the general populace overall? [1 = Extremely Lenient, Barely Authoritative, 10 = Extremely Controlling, Totally Authoritative] 9

3) Does your younger population (12-39) overall view religious governance positively, neutrally, or negatively? Negatively
4) Does your older population (40+) overall view religious governance positively, neutrally, or negatively? Neutrally (older Hefflist and Muslim folks view the theocracy positively)
5) On a scale of 1-10, how important does the average citizen personally view the religion of the current main religious authority? [1 = Essential, 10 = Unimportant] 3
6) Has religious influence overall in the country's society been increasing, decreasing, or staying relatively unchanged? Stayed relatively unchanged.
7) How often does the average citizen set aside time for spirituality? Barely anyone in Crossoveria is atheist, as it’s against the law to abstain from religion.
8) How often does the average citizen practice the official religion? Very often. It is extremely likely you will find many religious people here.

5) Must all criminal cases be overseen by your country's religious authority? Yes

(Everyday Affairs - Open Response)
Please describe what an average day is like in your country for your country's legal citizens.

This varies by religion, but the day of the lives of Muslims are the same in Crossoveria as they are in the rest of the world, so I’ll be running down the day of the lives of Hefflists.

The day begins with a morning meal, often belvitas or doughnuts. Hefflists go in about their days until 11 o’clock, where prayers are heard. Until then, they have normal tasks like the rest of the population. Then, when the prayers start, the Hefflists chant, sing religious songs, and pray to their almighty being Ahr Authori. By 12 o’clock, it’s over, and people have their lunch. Life remains normal for the rest of the time the sun is up, Hefflists usually have lavish and fancy suppers, usually consisting of basmati rice, kabob, and bread. Before going to bed, they pray again to Ahr Authori for a better day tomorrow, and go to sleep.

[b](Views of Other Nations and Their Societies - Open Response)

Please describe how your country's general public, government, and religious authorities see the world around them, what they think of secular or antireligionist nations and people, and how foreign affairs are conducted.

Opinions from the general public and the Supreme Leader and his government are polar opposites. The general public usually likes secular nations, or at the very least, religious nations with a good human rights system, since they believe both are tolerant societies with acceptance to all. However, they really aren’t fans of anti religious states like North Korea, as they view them as just as intolerant to religions as their “overlord jerk” as they like to call the Supreme Leader, is to secular states. Speaking of which, the government, specifically the Supreme Leader, has denounced various secular and anti-religious states, saying they are a corruption that needs to stop.

(Social Liberty - Open Response)
1) On a scale of 1-10, how free or unfree are your country's people? [1 = Extremely Free, 10 = Not Free, Totally Controlled] 10 (actually beyond 10)

(Social Liberty II - Open Response)
Please describe to the best of your ability what freedom overall looks like for your country's citizens, summarizing what they can and cannot do, how often they can and cannot do something, where they may go, etc.

Freedom in Crossoveria is nearly non-existent. The former Supreme Leader, Marie BonAztire, was known for banning thousands of things without her people’s consent, including but not limiting to: human clothes on the anthros (a native ethnic group in Crossoveria that are anthropomorphic animals), Disney movies, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, the selling of non-Hefflist or Non-Muslim texts should it be religious, erotic video games, Family Guy, American and Israeli products, etc. People are prohibited from accessing websites like YouTube, and are arrested for using them. Cartoons that spread religious themes not related to Hefflism and Islam or political themes, and even shows the Supreme Leader doesn’t like, are banned from airing on TV in Crossoveria. Books like the Satanic Verses and Persepolis are banned, and BonAztire has issued a decree calling for the death of the writer Salman Rushdie, as well as Marc Brown (as you may have guessed, both of their works have been banned in Crossoveria). Excessive banning is only part of this massive equation. The past and current Supreme Leaders (Kais Al Abidine Baldemore, Farrokh Daikutt, Marie BonAzitre, Zeeter Saldivar, Waldemar Rochester) had all had cults of personality. Their faces were and are on display everywhere, and there’s a lot of statues of the three all across towns, and their portraits are in display everywhere in urban Crossoverian areas. The five Supreme Leaders all live[d] in beautiful palaces in the more beautiful parts in Crossoveria, and they work and play there. The palaces are heavily guarded, and citizens are prohibited from entering the palaces, nor can they enter many government buildings, headquarters of businesses (unless if they work there, of course) or construction sites. Crossoverian citizens’ behaviors are heavily monitored by the Supreme Leader, and the laws he/she employs are then enforced by law enforcement. People cannot criticize the Crossoverian government, Hefflism, Islam, or the Supreme Leader him/herself. Criticism of the government and state religions still lands people in prison; but being critical of the Supreme Leader can lead to the person’s execution. Being homosexual, Islamophobic, a supporter of the American or Israeli governments, or doing erotic acts as a living or a hobby are all illegal, and can lead to your fate should you get caught by law enforcement. For Muslims, eating, drinking, or encouraging in public during Ramadan is illegal, but unlike most Muslim countries, non-Muslims don’t have to follow this rule (however, they are encouraged, but still, it’s their choice). What non-Muslims are prohibited from doing is dance the disco during public holidays, as stuff like this is contrary to the culture of Crossoveria.

(Ending Section - Open Response)
Is there anything else you would like to detail about your country, your country's people, culture, history, or about your country's religious authorities?

To better understand our nation, you would like to read our factbooks. But I’d give you a rundown on the five supreme leadership authorities in Crossoveria since the revolution: Kais Al Abidine Baldemore, Farrokh Daikutt, Marie BonAztire, Zeeter Saldivar, and Waldemar Rochester.

Kais Al Abidine Baldemore led the 1954 Crossoverian Revolution after seeing extreme poverty and the narcissism surrounding their king at the time. Back then, Crossoveria was a feudal kingdom that at the same time was forcing industrialization on the people. Many people started the revolt, and Baldemore took advantage of the situation. In a matter of weeks, the king was forced into involuntary exile, and Baldemore quickly returned to the country as he had been exiled beforehand. After a referendum, he became the country's first Supreme Leader. He quickly made literacy rates rise, education and healthcare became free, and the overall quality of life improved dramatically under him. Despite this, he was a dictator who, in 1957 after a failed CIA coup, declared a state of emergency. 50,000 people were persecuted and imprisoned under his regime, and many more were killed. He remains a controversial figure in Crossoverian history.

Farrokh Daikutt, Baldemore's Deputy and yes-man, took over as Supreme Leader after Baldemore was assassinated in 1972. Daikutt was a major promoter of the independence of African nations as Deputy, and was pretty popular with their leaders. However, his 9 year tenure saw widespread corruption with 2 billion dollars being lost under his regime. Inflation was also pretty high, 28% by the time he was overthrown. Daikutt is best remembered for his involvement in the Iranian Revolution in 1979, which overthrew the Shah and established a theocratic regime. Daikutt established relations with the new Islamic Republic, and the two countries remain allies.

Marie BonAztire led a coup against Farrokh Daikutt in 1981, and became the country’s Supreme Leader, becoming the youngest world leader at 18 when she assumed control. However, her nearly 40 years in office were marred with totalitarianism, as she led the country into a theocratic dictatorship. She is well known for her bans on multiple material, most infamously on cartoons. She has been the longest serving Supreme Leader, and was known as one of the most ruthless leaders of all time. People called her “Madame Dictator” since she was a dictator as a woman, and because she had French Heritage in a country that has an anthropomorphic animal population. Speaking of which, BonAztire's most infamous act was the Appropriate Animal Attire Act, barring anthros from wearing human garments. This spark multiple protests that defined 2010's Crossoverian politics.

Zeeter Saldivar was also a female dictator, but she was more severe. She was the leader of the ACE, a terrorist group funded by BonAztire that likes to turn children, especially cartoons, into animals on their own volition. As a result, millions of children were converted. But Saldivar felt this want enough, because she wanted to rule Crossoveria to spread her ideology nationwide, and soon internationally. So, she overthrew BonAztire in a coup and went to work turning many children into animals, while initiating wars with other countries. Saldivar was a Hefflist fundamentalist with beliefs that humans are the cause for the earth’s suffering, and that their presence on Earth HAS to end. She was eventually defeated and imprisoned, but not only after a series of violent events erupted.

Waldemar Rochester is the current Supreme Leader. He is the first male Supreme Leader. Rochester was studying to be a Hefflist cleric when he got in the military, eventually leading Crossoveria to fight in many Middle Eastern wars such as the Persian Gulf War. Rochester has become so popular with BonAztire, that she made him his Deputy, and also marrying him because she may have loved him. One thing that is for certain is that Rochester remains controversial. He has received condemnation by many human rights organizations and world leaders for his policies and authoritarianism. But his supporters stand by him, admiring his role in Middle Eastern conflicts and his ousting of the ACE. Since he is only a few months into power, no one will be sure of what his legacy awaits.

(General - Open Response
1) What does your country's government think of theocracy? The government of Pirusavia strongly rejects the system of theocracy for Pirusavia as it is seen to favour one religion to other, and the government believes that religion should have no place in the government. However, the Pirusavian government did not really care about other countries with theocratic system, as they believe it is their right to determine which is best for them, although Pirusavia still thinks that secularism is better than theocracy.

2) What does your country's people think of theocracy? Most Pirusavians reject the system of theocracy especially since most of them are irreligious and prefer that no one interferes with their spiritual needs, and even the (native faith) religious conservatives prefer secularism since they prefer to worship independently.

3) What percentage of your country's general population is religious? Less than 5%.

4) Is religiousness in your country growing, declining, or stagnated? Stagnated. The popularity of religion has been declining slowly since the start of the 20th century, until the rate flattened in the 1950s.

(Economic Policy - Open Response)
Please describe how your country deals with theocratic nations in the international community when it comes to matters of trade, commerce, industry, and finance. Depends on the country. Pirusavia is a neutral country and is willing to trade with anyone, unless they are very controversial or is harm to Pirusavia either politically, militarily, or economically. Most of the time Pirusavia doesn't really care and just do trades as usual.

(Diplomacy - Open Response)
Please describe how your country deals with theocratic nations in the international community when it comes to matters of sovereignty, war, peace, foreign policy, and world projects. Since Pirusavia is neutral, they will always try to be the middleman in any conflicts. Pirusavia won't see any problem through someone's faith, but rather through what kind of harmful thing they have been doing.
A federal left-wing nationalist country situated in a fictional world in the extended Cold War timeline. Authoritarian by Western standards, Libertarian by Eastern standards. Atomic Tech - The year is 1978.

In process of retconning, especially regarding geography and demographics.

(History - Open Response)
1) When did your country first become theocratic? Approximately five years ago, in 2116
2) Why did your country become theocratic in the first place? The Prophet Kermitson was responsible for preventing the annihilation of what is now the Kermetic Domain through his neutralisation of the previous occupying force, which was intending to use the region for bio-weapons testing. The townsfolk thusly assented, as both a form of gratitude and in order to retain protection, when the Prophet declared his divine mandate over the region.
3) Has the power of your country's main religious governing body increased, decreased, of stayed about the same in the last 20 years? Prior to the Prophet's arrival, the regions was largely irreligious and there were no organised religious bodies. In the five years since the establishment of the Kermetic Domain, its size and thus its power has increased exponentially, due to the population of Kermetics within the region gradually eclipsing the original population. However, the Kermetics' power only extends exactly where the Prophet has deemed it do, and most actual matters of law and governance are left entirely up to the largely-autonomous local council, headed by the Deputy Mayor (as Kermitson retains the title of 'Mayor') and facilitated through the local council and direct democratic action.
4) What has been the most threatening or ongoing kind of resistance against the theocratic establishment, if there even has been any? The vast majority of the original population has either been ambivalent to the Kermetics, or has a positive opinion of them, due to their protection of the region, and the prosperity they have created. Only outside forces have shown true opposition and hostility to the Kermetics, such as the now-eradicated military remnants and various raider gangs.

(Modern Trends - Open Response)
1) On a scale of 1-10, how lenient or controlling is the current main religious authority toward the general populace overall? [1 = Extremely Lenient, Barely Authoritative, 10 = Extremely Controlling, Totally Authoritative] This can vary from 2 - 8; in most areas the Kermetics completely absolve themselves of any control over the population, and society operates completely autonomously, whilst in some areas complete control is maintained (i.e. over television broadcasts).
2) On a scale of 1-10, how supportive or opposed is the country's general population toward the current main religious authority overall? [1 = Mostly Supportive, 10 = Mostly Opposed]
3) Does your younger population (12-39) overall view religious governance positively, neutrally, or negatively? 7-8
4) Does your older population (40+) overall view religious governance positively, neutrally, or negatively? Neutrally, leaning positively.
5) On a scale of 1-10, how important does the average citizen personally view the religion of the current main religious authority? [1 = Essential, 10 = Unimportant] 8, as immigrant-converts skew the 'average citizen' quite far.
6) Has religious influence overall in the country's society been increasing, decreasing, or staying relatively unchanged? Increasing
7) How often does the average citizen set aside time for spirituality? Depending on their position (or lack thereof) in the Kermetic hierarchy. Most visit the temple a few times a week, whilst others are ostensibly monastic.
8) How often does the average citizen practice the official religion? Daily, though the sincerity of this practice varies wildy.

(Legality - Fill-in-the-Box)
Your Nation's Constitution and/or Legal System Does/Do Not Allow:
(Mark All That Apply with an X.)
[X] Blasphemy
[X] Apostasy
[-] Adultery
[✓] Fornication
[✓] Polygamy/Polyandry
[✓] Insobriety
[✓] Homosexuality
[] (Other)
[]
[]

(Legality II - Open Response)
1) What are the possible punishments in your country for committing any of the acts as marked above? Blasphemy and Apostasy can vary wildly in punishment; anything from community service to banishment or execution.
2) Does your country's religious authority work directly in cooperation with the political system? They operate largely autonomously from one another, but have yet to conflict in any way.
3) Is the head of state in charge over the religious authority's administration? Yes.
4) Does your country's religious authority have its own police agencies, courts, criminal justice system, or educational institutions? It is the sole educational institution, and operates its own military/police force and judiciary.
5) Does your country's religious authority have its own banks, hospitals, military forces, independent territories, or security? If so, to what extent? As above, it operates its own military/police force. There is no bank at all, and some medical care is available through the Kermetics.
6) Are your country's religious authority's leaders and subservient staffers able to resign at any time? Blood in, blood out (well, not really, but resignation could be seen as a form of apostasy, unless the Prophet gives his blessing).
7) How long are your country's religious authority's leaders and subservient staffers allowed to serve in their positions? Indefinitely, or at least at the pleasure of the Prophet.
8) What are the qualifications for service in your country's main religious authority? Varying levels of initiation ritual and acts of public/religious service.

(Legality III - Open Response)
1) May women hold positions within your country's religious authority? Yes.
2) May foreigners (noncitizens) hold positions within your country's religious authority? Yes, most Kermetics have immigrated to the Kermetic Domain since its founding - there is no concept of 'citizenship', there are only those within the Kermetic Domain and those without.
3) May underage children or teenagers hold positions within your country's religious authority? Yes.
4) May religious minorities hold positions within your country's religious authority? Not within the Church, no.
5) May homosexuals and other sexual minorities hold positions within your country's religious authority? Yes; the Prophet and his life-partner Trent hold the two most powerful positions in the Kermetic Domain (Prophet/Mayor and Vice-Mayor respectively).
6) May racial and/or ethnic minorities hold positions within your country's religious authority? Yes, the Prophet only sees green.
7) May naturalized citizens hold positions within your country's religious authority? Yes.
8) May humanoid AI beings hold positions within your country's religious authority? This has not yet occurred, but would likely be allowed should one show up in town one day.

(Legality IV - Open Response)
1) Can anyone lawfully challenge any ruling or decision made by your country's religious authority? The Prophet is open to comments and suggestions, but his rule is final.
2) Are other religions allowed to be practiced in your country? No, unless they are practiced syncretically and such practice has been deemed legitimate by the Prophet.
3) Can your country's religious authority issue search warrants or order performances of search-and-seizure without a warrant? The Prophet may decree as such.
4) Must all marriages and/or divorces be approved by your country's religious authority? Yes and no; whilst marriages must be recognised by the church, there is no functional difference between an marriage and a de-facto partnership.
5) Must all criminal cases be overseen by your country's religious authority? Only in crimes relating to breaches of faith, though the Prophet reserves the right to sit on the jury in any case.

(Everyday Affairs - Open Response)
Please describe what an average day is like in your country for your country's legal citizens.

Most citizens will divide their day between their occupation, morning and evening visits to the temple, and socialisation. With a population in the double-digits, and the sheer remoteness of the Domain, the main congregation centres are the temple, the tavern, and the town hall.

(Views of Other Nations and Their Societies - Open Response)
Please describe how your country's general public, government, and religious authorities see the world around them, what they think of secular or antireligionist nations and people, and how foreign affairs are conducted.

Due to the remoteness of the Kermetic Domain (being located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, near the former Idaho-Montana border), interaction with other polities is rare. The Church will send out monks to proselytise, but these monks acts entirely autonomously. The Kermetics believe that they are the chosen people of Kermit and claim divine mandate over the entirety of the watershed of the Mississippi River and its tributaries (though at present control an almost negligible percentage of such). Overall, the Kermetics seek to convert, not persecute, those outside of their faith, and only act with hostility should they or their domain come under threat, or if they are duty bound to protect others or the environment from becoming victims of idolatry. The presence of irreligious people within the Domain is seen as a temporary necessity, as they perform jobs that the Kermetic faith prevents higher-level adherents from undertaking, and that will become redundant upon the fulfilment of their divine mandate and the subsequent establishment of Kermit's Utopia on Earth. As long as one does not blaspheme, or preach heresy or apostasy to Kermetics, the Kermetics tolerate those of differing faiths.

(Social Liberty - Open Response)
1) On a scale of 1-10, how free or unfree are your country's people? [1 = Extremely Free, 10 = Not Free, Totally Controlled] 7

(Social Liberty II - Open Response)
Please describe to the best of your ability what freedom overall looks like for your country's citizens, summarizing what they can and cannot do, how often they can and cannot do something, where they may go, etc.

One is essentially free to do whatever they wish, provided they contribute their labor to the community and they don't run afoul of any Kermetic tenets. Most religious restrictions do not interfere with day-to-day life, or are congruent with the general social norms and values of the region, and as such one has little issue remaining within the law.

(Ending Section - Open Response)
Is there anything else you would like to detail about your country, your country's people, culture, history, or about your country's religious authorities?

An abridged, official history can be found here.

▪️(OPTIONAL BONUS QUESTION)▪️
(Be As Short or Descriptive As You Wish!)
How does your nation view Evergar?

The Kermetic faith is egalitarian and epicurean, and as such conflicts with the parochial, ethnosupremacist, and puritanic faith of Evergar in such ways that would likely prohibit friendly relations, in the insurmountably unlikely event of an encounter.
BY ORDER OF THE MOST AUGUST AND ENLIGHTENED PROPHET KERMITSON - The ban on the speaking of the Cajun tongue has been rescinded following the incident last week; the Prophet has confirmed that Kermit considers the language to be within the holy lexicon and thus permitted for use by the faithful.

1) What does your country's government think of theocracy? They reject the idea of the Mexican Empire being a theocracy - it would be blasphemous to say the leader is equal to or a replacement for the Pope
2) What does your country's people think of theocracy? Very unpopular - the (Catholic) people support the Pope and the Papal States as the head of Catholicism

Please describe how your country deals with theocratic nations in the international community when it comes to matters of sovereignty, war, peace, foreign policy, and world projects. We have been allied with the Papal States since 1869 with the Pavón Declaration, which barred Italian annexation, and the formation of the now-barely-a-thing-let-alone-worth-a-damn Catholic Alliance. We are also willing to side with other theocracies for realpolitik reasons, as is the case with the Egyptian Caliphate.

1) What does your country's government think of theocracy? They view it as inherently doomed to fail-- a government that makes laws based off of one religion will always fall when there are other religions existing in the country. The King believes the best governments make all citizens feel heard and like they have equal chances to influence leadership regardless of social class or other demographics.
2) What does your country's people think of theocracy? While our nation has an official religion (Christianity), our citizens are firmly believe in tolerance and that laws should be made based on secular logic.
3) What percentage of your country's general population is religious? About 80% (while only about 55% are Christian)
4) Is religiousness in your country growing, declining, or stagnated? Slightly stagnated

(Economic Policy - Open Response)
Please describe how your country deals with theocratic nations in the international community when it comes to matters of trade, commerce, industry, and finance. It depends on the country's government and whether or not citizens are oppressed. If they are oppressed, we will minimize dealings with that country, regardless of whether they are theocratic, a dictatorship, or pretending to be democratic. However, if citizens are treated well, we will trade with them, as long as all deals are ethical and do not support oppression or inequality.

(Diplomacy - Open Response)
Please describe how your country deals with theocratic nations in the international community when it comes to matters of sovereignty, war, peace, foreign policy, and world projects. Our nation is isolationist. We protect our national sovereignty at any costs. However, we only ally with countries that meet our values. Some theocratic nations may be appropriate allies, but most are not.

(History - Open Response)
1) When did your country first become theocratic? It always has been.
2) Why did your country become theocratic in the first place? The Realms were established by the Faithful who escaped the Downfall of Numenor. Numenor sunk because its people rebelled against the Divine, but the Faithful have always been pious and righteous.
3) Has the power of your country's main religious governing body increased, decreased, of stayed about the same in the last 20 years? There was a change from Stewardship back to Kingship, and the bishops all have the same dioceses they had 20 years ago.
4) What has been the most threatening or ongoing kind of resistance against the theocratic establishment, if there even has been any? Castamir the Ursurpator who reigned Gondor 10 years in a way that more resembled the pride of the men of Numenor leading to Numenor's drowning (see above). Even though Castamir was eventually defeated by the legitimate king Eldacar, his heirs fled to Umbar which remained evil and posed a long danger to Gondor/righteous Numenoreans until its reconquest by Gondor in the War of the Ring.

(Modern Trends - Open Response)
1) On a scale of 1-10, how lenient or controlling is the current main religious authority toward the general populace overall? [1 = Extremely Lenient, Barely Authoritative, 10 = Extremely Controlling, Totally Authoritative] I would say it is completely authoritative which may be 10 on your number scale.
2) On a scale of 1-10, how supportive or opposed is the country's general population toward the current main religious authority overall? [1 = Mostly Supportive, 10 = Mostly Opposed] Entirely supportive, hence 1.
3) Does your younger population (12-39) overall view religious governance positively, neutrally, or negatively? Positively.
4) Does your older population (40+) overall view religious governance positively, neutrally, or negatively? Positively.
5) On a scale of 1-10, how important does the average citizen personally view the religion of the current main religious authority? [1 = Essential, 10 = Unimportant] Essential, hence 1.
6) Has religious influence overall in the country's society been increasing, decreasing, or staying relatively unchanged? Unchanged, but as stated above, Umbar has been reconquered were piousness is increasing now again.
7) How often does the average citizen set aside time for spirituality? Spirituality is a part of the life.
8) How often does the average citizen practice the official religion? They are believers, hence permanently. Attending services they do each Sunday and Christian holiday or more often.

(Legality - Fill-in-the-Box)
Your Nation's Constitution and/or Legal System Do Not Allow:
(Mark All That Apply with an X.)
[X] Blasphemy
[X] Apostasy
[X] Adultery
[X] Fornication
[X] Polygamy/Polyandry
[X] Insobriety (if it leads to crimes, hatred or other evilness)
[X] Homosexuality
[X] (Other: Abortion (belongs to Murder but leftists/liberals often pick that as having anything to do with faith, hence I'm mentioning it))
[]
[]

(Legality II - Open Response)
1) What are the possible punishments in your country for committing any of the acts as marked above? Fines, jailtime, banishment, and in case of murder: capital punishment. Not really a "punishment" is that in case of homosexuality one is required to visit an exorcist.
2) Does your country's religious authority work directly in cooperation with the political system? Well, laws are Catholic but other than the exorcism requirement mentioned above there's rarely need to cooperate but of course government and clergy do if there's any. The High King is crowned by clergy.
3) Is the head of state in charge over the religious authority's administration? The High King and his government just ensure no modernist/heretical bishops are appointed in the Numenorean Exile Realms.
4) Does your country's religious authority have its own police agencies, courts, criminal justice system, or educational institutions? Educational institutions and inquisition.
5) Does your country's religious authority have its own banks, hospitals, military forces, independent territories, or security? If so, to what extent? Hospitals, actually most hospitals throughout the Realms are Church-owned.
6) Are your country's religious authority's leaders and subservient staffers able to resign at any time? Deacons if the priests agree, priests if the bishops agree, and bishops if the Pope agrees.
7) How long are your country's religious authority's leaders and subservient staffers allowed to serve in their positions? As long as they want to (theoretically until death but most clergy go to retirement around age 75).
8) What are the qualifications for service in your country's main religious authority? Having studied theology, oath to celibacy and being accepted by the prelate/bishop/Pope, and the government controls if they are truly Catholic. If they're modernists they'd be dismissed.

(Legality III - Open Response)
1) May women hold positions within your country's religious authority? Yes, as nuns.
2) May foreigners (noncitizens) hold positions within your country's religious authority? Yes, if a Numenorean couldn't be found which he usually can, hence it is extremely rare.
3) May underage children or teenagers hold positions within your country's religious authority? Yes, as ministrants.
4) May religious minorities hold positions within your country's religious authority? Of course not, they hold positions within their churches (these would be Eastern and Oriental Orthodox).
5) May homosexuals and other sexual minorities hold positions within your country's religious authority? Of course not, as long as one is homosexual, but it's extremely rare Numenoreans would fall into that sin, let alone clergy.
6) May racialand/or ethnic minorities hold positions within your country's religious authority? Concerning foreigners see above point 2.
7) May naturalized citizens hold positions within your country's religious authority? Of course?
8) May humanoid AI beings hold positions within your country's religious authority? Something like that doesn't exist in the Realms, and if it would, of course not.

(Legality IV - Open Response)
1) Can anyone lawfully challenge any ruling or decision made by your country's religious authority? Yes the High King and his government, but we probably wouldn't do it because such ruling or decision would probably be good.
2) Are other religions allowed to be practiced in your country? Yes, the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Churches are recognized as well, as long as they don't practice modernism. Pentecostals are tolerated as long as they don't oppose Catholicism but their churches aren't formally recognized.
3) Can your country's religious authority issue search warrants or order performances of search-and-seizure without a warrant? Yes, inquisitors may so without a warrant.
4) Must all marriages and/or divorces be approved by your country's religious authority? Marriages are sacrament within Church only, and a marriage can only be annuled by the Pope if a couple has no children and requests annulation.
5) Must all criminal cases be overseen by your country's religious authority? No, except homosexuality would be as stated above.

(Everyday Affairs - Open Response)
Please describe what an average day is like in your country for your country's legal citizens. No, they can speak for themselves if they wish.

(Views of Other Nations and Their Societies - Open Response)
Please describe how your country's general public, government, and religious authorities see the world around them, what they think of secular or antireligionist nations and people, and how foreign affairs are conducted. The other countries on Middle-earth are either righteous and pious as well, or those that have been ruled by Nazgûl once are evil, they have worshipped Sauron and Morgoth. Maybe now that the Nazgûl have fallen they will become righteous too over time.

(Social Liberty - Open Response)
1) On a scale of 1-10, how free or unfree are your country's people? [1 = Extremely Free, 10 = Not Free, Totally Controlled] That is too vague.

(Social Liberty II - Open Response)
Please describe to the best of your ability what freedom overall looks like for your country's citizens, summarizing what they can and cannot do, how often they can and cannot do something, where they may go, etc. Too vague / too broad as well.

(Ending Section - Open Response)
Is there anything else you would like to detail about your country, your country's people, culture, history, or about your country's religious authorities? The People of the Numenorean Exile Realms (Gondor and Arnor/Arthedain) have always been pious and righteous.

You should make organ harvesting voluntary, abolish human sacrifice and withdraw from the Climate Treaty. I'd recommend also to abolish slavery and maybe child labor, dependent on the kind of labor.

Please describe how your country deals with theocratic nations in the international community when it comes to matters of trade, commerce, industry, and finance.

Thermodolia will treat such nations like any other unless putting sanctions on them or refusing business benefits Thermodolia. Otherwise Thermodolia doesn’t care what ideology a nation follows, if they are profitable than that’s all Thermodolia cares about

(Diplomacy - Open Response)
Please describe how your country deals with theocratic nations in the international community when it comes to matters of sovereignty, war, peace, foreign policy, and world projects.

While Thermodolia hates theocracy for itself it doesn’t really care if there are nations that choose to use the system worldwide unless such a system would directly harm Thermodolia or it’s allies.

In short Thermodolia doesn’t care what ideology a nation follows, all that matters if such a nation benefits Thermodolia.

(History - Open Response)
1) When did your country first become theocratic? When it was founded
2) Why did your country become theocratic in the first place? Because following a system inspired by an omnipotent, benevolent entity is much better than trying to make up your own and hoping it works.
3) Has the power of your country's main religious governing body increased, decreased, of stayed about the same in the last 20 years? Amenria didn't exist in 2022.
4) What has been the most threatening or ongoing kind of resistance against the theocratic establishment, if there even has been any? Communist guerillas in North Korea.

(Modern Trends - Open Response)
1) On a scale of 1-10, how lenient or controlling is the current main religious authority toward the general populace overall? ~5-6
2) On a scale of 1-10, how supportive or opposed is the country's general population toward the current main religious authority overall? 2

4) Does your older population (40+) overall view religious governance positively, neutrally, or negatively? Positive

(Legality - Fill-in-the-Box)
Your Nation's Constitution and/or Legal System Does/Do Not Allow:
(Mark All That Apply with an X.)
[] Blasphemy
[✓] Apostasy
[✓] Adultery
[✓] Fornication

[✓] Insobriety (only for non-Muslims)
[] Homosexuality

[]
[]

(Legality II - Open Response)
1) What are the possible punishments in your country for committing any of the acts as marked above? Blasphemy can either land someone jail time or a fine, while witchcraft and homosexuality can either be punished by jail/asylum time or death.
2) Does your country's religious authority work directly in cooperation with the political system? Yes, the ministry of religion has seats in the parliament.
3) Is the head of state in charge over the religious authority's administration? Not usually. Serious problems like mass possessions or dangerous magical groups could see itself in his desk, but otherwise the ministry of religion does it's own thing.
4) Does your country's religious authority have its own police agencies, courts, criminal justice system, or educational institutions? Each branch of the ministry of religion, responsible for one religion, has law enforcers, and their own courts and justice systems; the Cosmic Court, and oversees, but not always run, schools based on their religion.
5) Does your country's religious authority have its own banks, hospitals, military forces, independent territories, or security? If so, to what extent? Territories owned by the ministry of religion still follow federal law, but people living there pay their taxes to the ministry. Then, a certain percentage of said taxes are sent to the central government. While whether or not the ministry's enforcers are paramilitaries depend on who you're asking, they can and will defend their territories from enemies.
6) Are your country's religious authority's leaders and subservient staffers able to resign at any time? Yes.
7) How long are your country's religious authority's leaders and subservient staffers allowed to serve in their positions? In the parliament? 5 years. In the ministry itself? Until they turn 45.
8) What are the qualifications for service in your country's main religious authority? Follow the religion of the branch they're serving, be of sound physical, spiritual, and mental state, be at least 14, and pass a series of tests.

(Legality III - Open Response)
1) May women hold positions within your country's religious authority? Generally, yes. However, this depends on the religion of the branch they're applying to.
2) May foreigners (noncitizens) hold positions within your country's religious authority? No.
3) May underage children or teenagers hold positions within your country's religious authority? Yes, everyone above 14 is legally an adult.
4) May religious minorities hold positions within your country's religious authority? In the branches of their respective religions, yes.
5) May homosexuals and other sexual minorities hold positions within your country's religious authority? No.
6) May racialand/or ethnic minorities hold positions within your country's religious authority? Generally yes, also depends on the branch's religion.
7) May naturalized citizens hold positions within your country's religious authority? Yes.
8) May humanoid AI beings hold positions within your country's religious authority? No.

(Legality IV - Open Response)
1) Can anyone lawfully challenge any ruling or decision made by your country's religious authority? With protests, petitions, and so on after they've become laws, or with rallies before, but Muslim citizens can vote on fatwas before they are decided.
2) Are other religions allowed to be practiced in your country? Yes.
3) Can your country's religious authority issue search warrants or order performances of search-and-seizure without a warrant? Yes, although the latter is very rare and opens an entirely new can of worms.
4) Must all marriages and/or divorces be approved by your country's religious authority? Yes
5) Must all criminal cases be overseen by your country's religious authority? Only in the Cosmic Court

(Everyday Affairs - Open Response)
Please describe what an average day is like in your country for your country's legal citizens.

[b](Views of Other Nations and Their Societies - Open Response)

Please describe how your country's general public, government, and religious authorities see the world around them, what they think of secular or antireligionist nations and people, and how foreign affairs are conducted. Depending on to what extent said nations and people are, either too dumb to even acknowledge the existence of God, or so evil they oppose Him.

(Social Liberty - Open Response)
1) On a scale of 1-10, how free or unfree are your country's people? 2-3

(Social Liberty II - Open Response)
Please describe to the best of your ability what freedom overall looks like for your country's citizens, summarizing what they can and cannot do, how often they can and cannot do something, where they may go, etc. Since Shariah doesn't apply to non-Muslims, citizens are only bound to religious laws of their own respective religions. For example, a Muslim can order a cheeseburger no problem, but a Hindu risks getting fined if they do. A Christian can get a tattoo after his 14th birthday, but a Muslim can't. Regardless of religion, however, association with demons, and thus, witchcraft is a serious offence due to the danger it poses to oneself and the general public.

(Ending Section - Open Response)
Is there anything else you would like to detail about your country, your country's people, culture, history, or about your country's religious authorities? Amenria takes an arguably liberal interpretation on Islam, and opposes fundamentalism every chance it gets. For example, fatwas are debated publicly by the Muslim branch of the ministry of religion before being sent to the public for them to vote on. This essentially means what is haram or halal depends on the public's opinion, which is why adultery, apostasy, and other acts that would trigger the far-right is legal.

1) What does your country's government think of theocracy? It is unconstitutional, as it violates the principle of secularism.
2) What does your country's people think of theocracy? Most people think it is outdated, as well as unjust since it favours a certain religion.
3) What percentage of your country's general population is religious? 71% of the population claim to adhere to a religion. The actual amount of people who are practicing is lower.
4) Is religiousness in your country growing, declining, or stagnated? Declining

(General - Open Response
1) What does your country's government think of theocracy? Despite the current President being a former Pentecostal minister, the Núñez Alvarado government has committed to freedom of religion and expression in Achaean society, respecting the will of the people.
2) What does your country's people think of theocracy? Most progressive Achaeans are weary of a theocratic state or a state religion that attempts against recently earned civil rights. RIght-wing evangelicals, however, have made progressive inroads to power by appeal to conservative family values against progressive influences in civil society.
3) What percentage of your country's general population is religious? 59% Catholic; 28% Protestant; 1% Orthodox Christian; 10% Irreligious/Atheist/Agnostic; less than 1% Judaism, Islam, African/traditional relgions
4) Is religiousness in your country growing, declining, or stagnated? Religion in Achaea is in flux. The 2020 Census reports that less than three-fifths of the population is Catholic for the first time since records began, while the Protestant population has grown exponentially over the past thirty years, in particular Pentecostalism, as well as irreligion. This reflects a shift in the country's religious makeup by becoming very diverse in regards to its position in Latin America.

(Economic Policy - Open Response)
Please describe how your country deals with theocratic nations in the international community when it comes to matters of trade, commerce, industry, and finance.

The Achaean Republic enjoys diplomatic and economic relations with several theocratic nations. To date, though, none have been hosted by the current administration as of yet.

Please describe how your country deals with theocratic nations in the international community when it comes to matters of sovereignty, war, peace, foreign policy, and world projects. See above.

How does your nation view Evergar? Evergar would be seen as ridiculously authoritarian by the intense, free-spirited Achaean people.

(General - Open Response
1) What does your country's government think of theocracy? Generally dislikes the idea of it, as it creates issues with governance and protection of particular rights
2) What does your country's people think of theocracy? Generally dislike it as it implies restrictions on people's social and economic liberties, though those who wish to follow stricter creeds and codes are free to do so in their own community but local, provincial, and general governments ensure exit rights for those wanting out of those strict communities.
3) What percentage of your country's general population is religious? 67 percent
4) Is religiousness in your country growing, declining, or stagnated? Stagnated

(Economic Policy - Open Response)
Please describe how your country deals with theocratic nations in the international community when it comes to matters of trade, commerce, industry, and finance. As long as their religious policy is not condoning slavery or other forms of forced labor the NAU will trade with them. Forced labor and other human rights violations will trigger consumer and supplier boycotts and eventually sanctions from the NAU general government as preliminary, economic measures to combat these violations.

(Diplomacy - Open Response)
Please describe how your country deals with theocratic nations in the international community when it comes to matters of sovereignty, war, peace, foreign policy, and world projects. The NAU is willing to work with theocratic nations as long as they do not condone slavery or forced labor or any other egregious human rights violations. Those who do will receive supplier and consumer boycotts, government sanctions, and other eventually harsher methods.

How does your nation view Evergar? Not very highly, on the terms of how Evergar poorly protects the rights of religious minorities, and apparent condoning of slavery, and generally authoritarian or totalitarian system.

Belantica will engage in economic relations with a theocratic nation if they are able to meet basic requirements of human and civil rights, otherwise it can be expected for Belantic consumers to boycott their goods and for the federal government to possibly apply sanctions.

4) What has been the most threatening or ongoing kind of resistance against the theocratic establishment, if there even has been any? They get up, go to work, come home, watch TV, go to sleep. They don't think about religion once unless they're getting married, have a funeral to attend or just had a baby. And even then it's more of a tradition, they probably don't believe in it, or if they do it's only a vague sense of belief in the gods.

(Views of Other Nations and Their Societies - Open Response)
Please describe how your country's general public, government, and religious authorities see the world around them, what they think of secular or antireligionist nations and people, and how foreign affairs are conducted.

Tangatarehua is a non-aligned country which generally doesn't care whether a nation is secular or religious, provided that the nation's own sovereignty is not impinged upon. However some religions are treated with suspicion - especially Christianity due to its attempts to take over the nation in the 19th century and desecrate a number of Tapu (sacred) relics. (This resulted in the expulsion of all Christians from Tangatarehua in 1921, lasting until 1953, though today Christians may practice their religion if they want.)

(Social Liberty - Open Response)
1) On a scale of 1-10, how free or unfree are your country's people? [1 = Extremely Free, 10 = Not Free, Totally Controlled] 2

(Social Liberty II - Open Response)
Please describe to the best of your ability what freedom overall looks like for your country's citizens, summarizing what they can and cannot do, how often they can and cannot do something, where they may go, etc.

Tangatarehua has high levels of civil freedom, comparable with any secular western nation. (In fact in many ways Tangatarehua is extremely secular despite officially having theocratic elements). The main drawbacks on freedom are that the political system still isn't fully democratic and the Empress remains protected by lese-majeste laws. Apart from that you can more or less go nuts.

(Ending Section - Open Response)
Is there anything else you would like to detail about your country, your country's people, culture, history, or about your country's religious authorities? I could, but can't be bothered. It'll probably be in my factbooks somewhere.

Most Pirusavians reject the system of theocracy especially since most of them are irreligious and prefer that no one interferes with their spiritual needs.

3) What percentage of your country's general population is religious? Around only 35% of the population think that religion is important to them.

Pirusavia is a neutral country and is willing to trade with anyone, unless they are very controversial or is a harm to Pirusavia either politically, militarily, or economically.
