Dear 42 nations, hundreds of players and millions of fans. Welcome to the Multiverse's greatest hockey competition! 42 teams will be looking to play for the one single title that unites all, starting off with a double round-robin group stage on home-and-away format. Will Elejamie, the defending champions whose rise to the victory is just one of many upsets and surprises from the previous championships, be back for the back-to-back WCoH title? Or will it be your nation who races against insurmountable odds to clench the trophy before your eyes and nation cheering?

Pots and Groups

After a home and away group stage, the top three teams from each group will advance to a 18-team elimination stage, with all matches to be held in a magically-constructed site located in middle of cornfields out in northern Quebec named 'Rink of Dreams'. IC information will be updated by December 16 (MD9-10 Cutoff Window).

Top 14 seeds (all group winners and finalists, as well as the top two third-placers) will given a bye into the Round of Sixteen. 15th-18th seeds (remaining third-placers) will play each other in the play-off round, with the winners qualifying for the Round of Sixteen.

Dear all,

Congrats to your qualification for the World Cup of Hockey 44, a task that's by no means easy, and welcome to Quebec & Shingryeo! The World Cup of Hockey Federation, Hockey Quebec and the World Cup of Hockey 44 Organising Committee would like to wish you a merry visit and that all's going to be well with your visit.

While Quebec & Shingoryeo is no stranger to hosting international tournaments, especially in hockey where the World Cup of Hockey has been hosted four times before now, visiting Quebec & Shingoryeo for the World Cup of Hockey 44 will be a different experience from the usual World Cup of Hockeys, with all matches to be held in a magically/long-constructed property of the Rink of Dreams in middle of northern Quebec. Here are some information you should know before visiting:

FEW THINGS TO KNOW WHEN VISITING HERE

1) Unlike most things in this nation located on the northwestern end of Anaia, this venue is not accessible by most people unless they are 1) local indigenous peoples inhabiting in this part of the country, 2) the negotiators between the humans and the magical spirits of the state who sleep here, or 3) the spirits themselves who usually sleep here tonight. With this in mind, the mortal travel into this specific territory is only possible by 1) the magical portal from your home nation (if your nation and your people believe in magic), or 2) flying into the property with flight permits pre-issued by the Quebecois Government. Either option will be considered acceptable, with each nation's federation expected to e-mail or telegram back to the World Cup of Hockey Federation headquarters after a nation of concern clinches their WCoH spot.

2) Due to the nature of the four-way agreement made between the Government, the World Cup of Hockey Federation, Hockey Quebec and the spirits, there will be a strict entry quota of your fans into the Rink of Dreams. While the quota of your nation's fans is not specified yet, it is safe to assume that there will be at least 5,000 tickets made available to the fans of a participating nation, with a maximum limit of 20,000. Each nation's hockey federation is welcome to set a waitlist for those unable to buy their tickets, but every unclaimed ticket will be made available for Hockey Quebec to resell it to a fan or an official from outside of the eighteen participating nations into the knockout round.

3) In terms of location, the Rink of Dreams property is located in middle of northern Quebec & Shingoryeo, with around a thousand kilometres away from the nearest major city. While the tournament will be held in middle of the summer, the cold, freezing and snowing climate here likely means that a summer here will still be colder than a lot of places out there (unless you are Graintfjall or Ko-oren, then you can debate that they are colder!). With this in mind, a rough 50km radius is set over the Rink with two circles - an inner circle of team and staff lodges and an outer circle of the fan lodges - located well within it, and a solid magical border be set to mark the zone. Being inside the borders mean that you will be kept safe from any wild animals or intruders. The border, however, is not impenetrable from inside- so it is advised people to avoid going anywhere near the edge of the property to keep themselves safe.

4) Quebec & Shingoryeo is a very safe country as long as you abide laws, but this doesn't mean that it's an utopia. Such doesn't exist in the minds of an average Quebecois.

So on this property, there will be large police/security presence to keep people safe and also to enforce regulations if needed. This also means that there will be no destructive violence here (OOC: unless discussed with me). If you wish to RP crowd trouble or minor misunderstandings between people, that's fine, but nothing that would require security intervention. Those that do violate such permissions will lead into expulsion from the property with fines or jail time.

OOC: For the last part, we can work around that if discussed with me in advance. I'm fairly flexible with working things out - like if few hundreds Quebecois fans wanna have a brawl out with their Avatarian equivalents, by all means be my guest because I could see something like that happen.

5) There will be no COVID-19 or other infectious diseases that can affect others and the host's RP permissions. While there has been such disease in past, it would have been over sixty-years ago on my time, and there are strict biofilters to the site established by magical walls and the spirits' presence.

6) Injuries will still be injuries there, and can be treated by the on-site medical staff if needed. While an on-site hospital will be able to handle most injuries, there will be some that require further treatment in bigger cities before the tournament ends. In those cases, fans and players will be allowed to return to the site if they are discharged before the end of the tournament. Otherwise, both HQ and the WCoHF are not responsible for your injuries and ask you to forward the bills to your nation's respective federation so they can reimburse you.

TRANSPORTATION

As stated right above, the travel to the Rink of Dreams site is only possible by pre-established request to fly into the site, barring need for medical help during emergencies.

If you have to arrive to the northern Anaia nation for related purposes even without making the selected few dozen thousands, however, you'll likely just want to fly in to the city that you will be playing in. For this purpose two airports in Quebec City (where the World Cup of Hockey Federation is located in) and Iqaluit (the nearest major city to the Rink of Dreams) will be allowed for the visitors to enter the country, with both scheduled flights and charters to be made available upon your convenience.

Should the visitor permit be made available from the waiting list, however, you will be given access to a choice of either a) a magical portal, or b) a tiny turboprop bringing you to the site, with expenses all paid by Hockey Quebec. This, however, will only be granted on the condition that the visitor on the waiting list be in either city at the time of the waitlist, and be made available within two hours of the notification to their cell phones.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Due to the unusual nature of the World Cup of Hockey 44, which will be held in an isolated location, all players, coaches and fans will be given appropriate accommodations provided with comfort and basic needs.

Twenty three-floor lodges will be built at the closest inner circle surrounding the Rink of Dreams - eighteen reserved for eighteen nations participating in the knockout round, and two for the officiating crew and the members of the organising committee and the World Cup of Hockey Federation. Built with hockey players of the present and the future in mind, the lodges will be fit with the state-of-art technology, comfortable bedrooms and a living room fit with video game consoles and a collection of over 500 games available on each room.

There will a no-alcohol, no-drugs policy on the Rink of Dreams property, with the room service options stay extensive but without either option available due to a small but certain risk of people becoming intoxicated and disappearing into the wilderness beyond the magical property. Still, the Quebecois hosts of the tournament will do their best to accommodate any other need the team and their players may need, and will remain courteous, as long as specific requests are sent with a week notice prior to their enter into the bubble.

Surrounding the inner circle will be around few hundred lodges that range from one to five floors. As with the lodges, all the amenities and facilities will be made available for players' use, from a basement with pool and ping pong tables, to a boardroom that can hold a conference meeting. As with the players' lodges, most requests can be met - but a month's notice would be highly recommended for all those concerned.

Additional facilities are expected to be made available over the next few months leading to the World Cup of Hockey.

LIVE MEDIA COVERAGE

Everybody know that 'Modern Problems Require Modern Solutions', and this certainly applies to the media access and viewership rights for the course of the competition. While in the past it'd have been easier for the viewers to just fly into the hosting country, and may find their luck on a street watch party, it's slightly more difficult this time due to the extremely isolated location of the competition, as well as the filters of both biological, climate and not to mention magical natures that effectively eliminate this option.

With this in mind, the World Cup of Hockey Federation, Hockey Quebec and the World Cup of Hockey 44 Organising Committee have agreed to provide three options for each and every country's access to the competition:

OPTION A: The country's federation will be broadcasting the World Cup of Hockey 44 live, with full control given to their nation's broadcaster of choice for the duration of the tournament. If the federation's contract with the broadcaster covers the entirety of the tournament, they will be automatically considered for this option. They will be allowed to bring all the media equipment needed to broadcast the material and will be broadcasting it independently from the Hockey TV (internet) or the QBC (television).
OPTION B: The country's federation will be broadcasting the World Cup of Hockey 44 live, with their nation's choice of broadcaster be given access to the camera and live streams provided by the QBC (television) and the Hockey TV (internet - VousTube/RougeTube account provided by Hockey Quebec). While the camerawork will be handled by the QBC-Hockey TV crew, they retain full rights to the commentaries and whatever the related material for the tournament.
OPTION C: The country's federation will be broadcasting the World Cup of Hockey 44 under the agreement made between Hockey Quebec and the World Cup of Hockey Federation. Each nation will be allowed to provide live streaming of matches via the federation's online account of choice. The live stream used for the Option C will be from the Hockey TV.

Each and every federation tournament that have signed up for the tournament, as well as other past or prospective nations to the competition, are expected to email all three parties mentioned above over the next month. Should they not respond to the parties concerned on time (OOC: feel free to RP their responses, of course), then it is assumed that there is no live broadcasting rights available for the nation of concern.

MEDIA ACCESS TO THE TOURNAMENT

As for the media access, each and every federation who qualifies for the World Cup of Hockey 44 will be allocated a flexible number of media passes for those in their nations' representatives for television and print media. While the exact number of media passes allocated to each qualifying nation have yet to be confirmed by the committee, it is expected that the combined number for the media personnel from the eighteen sides is to be set in no more than eighteen-hundred combined. Should a qualifying nation fail to fulfill all the media passes allocated to them, the organising committee and Hockey Quebec are allowed to vacate them so they will be reallocated to members of media from either Quebec & Shingoryeo or other nations who have qualified.

An Additional two-hundred media passes will be made available for other nations, with the condition that they have participated in the World Cup of Hockey 44. Their applications will be processed by the Organising Committee, with response to be emailed to them within 5 to 10 business days. The unused media pass slots from the qualifying nations will not be reallocated for this purpose.

For the members of the media crew, the process is straightforward. Once they have received their media passes from their national federation, they will be allowed to enter the country two weeks before the first match of the tournament. All broadcasting equipment needed for the media coverage will be provided or allowed to be brought into the property from their country of origin, with a month's notice in advance. In addition, any important enquiries will be noted and responded promptly by the members of the Organising Committee or the on-site Staff.

Members of the media, both foreign and domestic, are subjected to both the Quebecois law and the on-site regulations. It is expected that any criminal activity will be dealt with immediately, and possibly result in their removal from the site.

PRESS CENTRE AND WELCOME HOUSES

In the inner circle of lodges surrounding the Rink of Dreams exist not only the residences for the players and the officials. What's really available for the fans will be four welcome houses and for the members of the media, the Press Centre. Each welcome house, designed to welcome the hockey fans from all across the multiverse, will be provided with meeting rooms, social areas (game rooms and mini-cinemas), cafeterias from either Quebec & Shingoryeo or the participating nations themselves (also named BYOC - Bring Your Own Chefs). Specific facilities also to note are the duty-free shops on the Lodge no. 3 and a six-theatre cinema on Lodge no. 4.

As for the Press Centre, it will be an average press centre needed for a major competition. Nothing fancy and it can always be converted into more accommodations or storages at times. On the outdoors, each federation will be allowed to set up pop-up pavilions for activities of their choice. The organising committee remains hopeful that these pop-up pavilions will provide opportunities for hockey fans from across the multiverse to try different activities and meet representatives from various nations.

THE RINK OF DREAMS

Located in the very middle of the Rink of Dreams complex is, of course, the Rink of Dreams itself. An outdoor hockey arena that was completed after ten years in making (OOC: or ten weeks for those who believe in magic), the Rink of Dreams is the peak of Quebecois architectural excellence and reliability with its facilities. Under normal circumstances, it is a 20,000-seater outdoor hockey arena with 15,000 to 20,000 retractable seats made available starting the semifinal matches by opening up seats to its two highest floors otherwise fenced off for safety reasons.

All of the main arena rink and its two practice rinks (located on the basement of the stadium) are called the Rink of Dreams, though for official purposes only the main arena rink is referred as the Rink of Dreams. The name comes from from the 2013 Quebecois film 'Rink of Dreams', a popular hit that stars Nolan Park as a freshwater fisherman in middle of northern Quebec who builds a gigantic rink at the edge of the town. On the film, the spirits of the deceased war veterans of his old town (including his long-absent father) and the players of his childhood and boyhood dynasties (1940s Montreal Calaniens, 1950s CSKA Quebec and 1960s Kingston Knights) all come together as one in the end, only if for a night, and the town rejoices at the occasion.

Thus, the very throwback theme in mind, the Rink of Dreams will feature architecture style of an old-world, prewar-styled arena with latest amenities like heated seats, gigantic scoreboards, and 100-person luxury boxes available, but also the features of art deco architecture with simplistic appearance on the outside and modernist features on the inside, including marble floors and lavish decorations made of gold, jade and sculpted wood. Each of two lockers, circular in design, will be provided with individual stalls, showers and of course a small room for both the physiotherapists and the team doctors. At the centre of the floor, there will be a mat with the World Cup of Hockey Federation logo drawn on it, and there will be no penalties for players or coaches accidentally stepping on the logo (lol).

As for the rink itself, there will be a departure from the conventional practice for the Professional Hockey regulation-sized ice (OOC: NHL regulation-sized ice) regulated by the Quebecois Hockey League will be in use. Unlike in last two World Cup of Hockeys and the most recent World Junior Hockey Championships, which featured WCoHF-regulated ice (OOC: IIHF regulation-sized ice), the Hockey Queebc has decided to stick to its traditional choice of the Professional ice for 1) cost-related reasons that come with adjusting seating to different ice sizes, and 2) many past World Cup of Hockeys' past use of the ice). The ice will be maintained with the usual measures taken across the Multiverse to freeze the ice on outdoor arenas, with the ice being monitored and maintained on the 24/7 base.

For the course of World Cup of Hockey, there will be a Teddy Bear Toss every game. The fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears or stuffed toys (yes, even the sexual kind!) to the game, and toss them to the ice when the first goal is scored in the game. The toys gathered at the Teddy Bear Toss will be collected and donated to hospitals and charities in both Quebec & Shingoryeo and other nations who sign up to this challenge.

Uses a butterfly style and quick reflexes to make up for inexperience with positioning. Suspect puck handling.

Provides veteran depth in the event of any calamities and uses a stand-up style in contrast to Parsons.
43 Owen Franks, 21, 6-foot-1, 195 pounds
Franks is a stand up goalie who plays the puck well and can be a weapon when the Stars are shorthanded. He scored a goal into an empty net during a college game last season.

DEFENCEMEN
First pair
14 Chris Walton, 27, 6-foot-3, 195 pounds. Alternate captain.
Can sometimes play on the fourth line or a penalty killing forward if needed, but he's also an at-home defenceman.
5 Jill Sanders, 25, 5-foot-7, 150 pounds
Certainly not the first woman to play for the Stars, but she's certainly the scrappiest. She willingly goes into the corner to scrum to win pucks.

Second pair
6 Mia Chretién, 34, 5-foot-8, 145 pounds.
Can move the puck in and out of the zone well. Sometimes used on the front line during penalty kills.
7 Erik Weingart, 30, 5-foot-11, 200 pounds. Second alternate captain.
He's there for both hitting and leadership on the ice.

Third pair
19 Gil Sondberg, 24, 6-foot, 185 pounds
Has surprising physicality compared to his size. He's a big hitter and he's a force in the weight room.
52 Kirk Stephens, 25, 6-foot-1, 190 pounds.
Stephens is the offensive defenceman on the Stars, and often lines up as a right wing on the penalty kill. He's a threat to score a shorthanded goal.

Seventh defenseman
55 Milt Radner, 22, 6-foot-4, 210 pounds
Has youthful energy but lacks the polish needed for a spot on a main pairing.

FORWARDS
First Line
LW 19 Matt Davies, 25, 6-foot-2, 190 pounds
Lanky and fast, also with good puck movement skills, but can be relatively easy to get physical with.
C 38 Nate Barnes, 27, 5-foot-11, 189 pounds. Captain.
Best faceoff guy on the Stars, winning them at a 62 percent clip last season. Second in the league with 78 assists in 72 games.
7 RW Brett Tanguay, Jr., 20, 6-foot-1, 215 pounds
He has skill and power, and fires a blistering shot from the point. The son of the defence-minded assistant coach is as offence-minded as it gets.

Second Line
LW: 22 Dylan Bannister, 29, 6-foot, 210 pounds
Bannister replaces the now-retired Cameron Granato as the second line left wing. He has acknowledge he has big skates to fill, though perhaps not as big as also retired left wing Sylvan Turcotte's.
C: Alyssa Hannigan, 25, 5-foot-7, 149 pounds.
A great puck distributor, she often features as the first or second line centre on the power play.
RW: Calan Leftwich, 26, 5-foot-10, 180 pounds.
Plays well enough on defence to be on the checking line, but his offence keeps him on the ice in offensive situations. Could double-shift to the fourth line in case of injury.

Third Line
LW: 15 Jeff Tucker, 31, 5-foot-11, 179 pounds.
Has the versatility to play any of the three forward positions offensively, but his defence is suspect.
C: 16 Colin Yarmouth, 23, 5-foot-8, 175 pounds.
Plays a sparkplug style, but is still working on the conditioning and stamina needed to play on the first two lines. May not be able to play long minutes in extended knockout round overtime sessions.
RW:24 Ray Olendorff, 33, 6-foot-1, 190 pounds.
Plays harder than most. Is now much improved in conditioning, but meshes so well with the third line that he only plays on the other lines in knockout stage matches.

Fourth Line
LW: 37 Brock Willingham, 24, 6-foot-3, 215 pounds
Takes over the enforcer role from Alan Donald, though he has more skill and a little bit less pure braun. Don't sleep on him in a fight, though.
C: 26 Cliff Sauerchuck, 30, 6-foot-4, 230 pounds
His checking and physical play are what have him playing fourth line centre, but his ability to win faceoffs and distribute the puck are why he plays centre.
RW: 44 Terré Sombulier, 24, 5-foot-10, 170 pounds
They check well, and cleanly. That's why they're fourth line.

About Huayramarca: The Plurinational State of Huayramarca, also known as ”Huayramarca Mamallaqta” in Quechua and ”Huayramarca Suyu” in Aymara (literally: Windy Country), is an extraordinarily diverse nation in terms of geography that’s located in Anaia. Crossing three time zones, from the islands, reaching the coast, hiking the mountains and then sliding into the jungle, passing massive cordilleras such as the Andes, a nation with 36 million inhabitants that is composed by 9 different ethnic groups.

Huayramarca as such is a relatively new nation for the traditional standards of it, since it was constituted on 1822 (currently, we sit on 1984 according to the Inca Calendar), the main focus of building this nation was to help different ethnic groups to gather force into the region, in order to be recognized multiversally as a nation, hence, may gather some international protection in case their rights would be abused all of a sudden by an external force.

Being completely ignorant on what was happening around themselves, the Aymara, Quechua, Shuar, Guarani, Montubio, Tsáchila, Huaorani, Andoa and Candoshi ethnics decided to form the Republic with the support of neighbouring nations such as the Royal Kingdom of Québec & Shingoryeo. Migration from Québec happened in the late XIX century, mostly peoples known as ”Guayabalenses” decided to move in order to seek a stable place for their families, considering that their home soil was apparently brushed off the map by a dictator called “Gregory”. That last point forced the Huayramarcans into a stronger union in order to survive.

Until the middle XX century, Huayramarca managed to survive economically from llama, alpaca and vicuña herding, since its skins are highly valuable in neighbouring Québec due to their strong winters; also, coffee production helped Huayramarca to build some solid institutions that promoted national expansion near the Cocoabo Forest, that place is “La Selva”, a lush but quite dangerous forest with hundreds of rivers that come from the Andes. After some years of exploration, the authorities met the first indigenous peoples of the zone, which were exploited in order to produce rubber for tires and some mysterious chickens that were produced to do even more mysterious sacrifices to a deity, which the local people and even the rest of Huayramarca wasn’t able to understand how she works, granted, it’s not even a part of the Incan Mythology which includes Inti(the Sun god) and others.

During said period of time, and in a constant influx, a still unknown quantity of Huayramarcans decided to immigrate to neighbouring nations, especially the Kingdom of Québec & Shingoryeo. The Huayramarcans that managed to settle and refuge in said nation are group characterised by being easily adapted to their new home, they managed to assimilate many of the cultural preferences of the Québécois populace, and one of those was ice hockey, some youngsters decided to venture into the Québécois Hockey League (QHL) and a bare minimum of those were actually lucky to fit into a team. At the same time, a rare phenomena started among the Tsáchila indigenous people, they decided to play some kind of hockey in salt flats, imitating the same principles as their familiars did on Québec, with ice skates, pucks and sticks they were gifted from them.

That somewhat weird splitting was capitalized by a Huayramarcan-Québécois coach who envious of seeing nations from all across the multiverse taking part of the World Cup of Hockey, decided that it was time to see Huayramarca in the biggest scene that hockey has to offer. His job began after watching the WCoH 43 final, he started to investigate the background of the entire QHL, searching for players with Huayramarcan parents or grandparents, his work seemed useless until he got contacted by three QHL players who demonstrated that, in fact, they are Huayramarcans. Taking them into the pocket, he visited Santo Domingo, the city that's closer to the salt flats, where he saw a vibrant scene of teams from all across Huayramarca taking part of it, he arranged a meeting with the Tsáchila's patriarch in order to scout players from the salt flats tournament, he got approved and managed to get a team ready for the upcoming World Cup of Hockey, since those players considered themselves capable to jump from the salt flat to the ice rinks.

The reason of why this hockey team exists is here, a coach who didn't wanted to see World Cup of Hockey from his sofa any more, instead, he wanted to jump into the big

scene by building from scratch a team for his native Huayramarca, the country he fled in order to pursue a better life in Québec & Shingoryeo. Involved in hockey since his arrival to his new home, he has managed some local teams from Sherbrooke, he was earning his name as a promising coach for youngsters in the area, even helping some of those to jump into the QHL. His training methods are considered to be more focused into collective playing, optimisation of space and focusing in speed and elegance rather than force while attacking, although, a complete fan of somewhat brutal force while defending, he's known for always choosing strong defenceman lines, trying to build an iron curtain on the attempt.

For his venture on Huayramarca, expectations are low since it's taking a group composed by, mostly, amateur players that used to play on salt flats and reinforcing them with five professional QHL players forming the starting lines for the Fugitives. The sole fact of building the team and managing to get support from the Tsáchilas' chief and the National Government is a victory for what was, until today, a completely unknown figure in hockey.

La crème de la crème that Ferrer has to offer for the Fugitives, a trio of moderately strong but extremely fast players from the Québécois Hockey League, featuring Ho Man-Young, one of the best players that the Winnipeg Giants has among their lines, Ho is a skilled player that loves to exploit cracks in the rival defence, using his speed and technique to break them for good, he has a great sense of anticipation and tries to be in right place before the puck, instead of chasing it; he has a bright future forward and pretends to showcase with Huayramarca as much as possible. Simón Lugo and Pablo Holguín accompany Ho at the wings, both are fast enough players but Holguín excels due to his stamina, he is known for playing long periods of time without being substituted, while Lugo tends to be the opposite, since he's a player that tends to be very fast and collaborative on counterattacks, he might be one of the fastest QHL players and that tends to have a toll in his stamina. The trio may try to exploit speed and pass the puck in a space via filtered passes, while Ho would try, if possible, to pull out a five-hole or dribble the defenders and goalie in order to confuse them.

A line composed by fast moving players, but stronger compared to the first one. Ferrer has this line in consideration as a technical alternative in case a defence decides to lockdown and there's need of force to crack it. Ballesteros is a left winger that might like to start from behind or receive a pass to test his one-timer, a strong shot that might have some accuracy, his stats at the Huayramarcan Hockey League (HHL) demonstrates some success as he took the Sechura Oilers to win la Copa del Salar in the inaugural season. Medina is a centre forward that prefers to fight when needed, he might be extremely rude if we compare to the standard of this team, he might be involved in fights constantly; despite that, Medina has a great dribbling capacity and couples nicely with fast wingers such as Ballesteros. Pizzaro, in the other hand, is the slowest, but smartest, player on this line, he will always try to anticipate the movements and prevent offside by playing close to the line, he likes to receive passes right to where he is, so it's safe to say that he doesn't move a lot, still, he manages to control the puck nicely and shoot from mid range.

This third line has a stronger feature compared to the one we had earlier, to the point that some of the players here are considered into special teams such as Walter Colque, this player always chooses violence as his preferred method to solve problems, so, he's almost always involved big time in one, despite that, he has managed to get a great sense of concentration that, if used properly, could help to protect the puck and serve passes to the other two players of his line, specially to Quispe. Benjamín is an agile skater, he has the capability to manoeuvre among the rivals with simplicity, having preference to go behind the goal and serve passes to Huanca. The latter is a player that possesses a rather good one-timer, so, if he considers capable, he will always aim to goal, although his shot capabilities from mid or long range isn't the very best out there.

Diego Rojas is a motivated player, his hockey career is starting and he might look promising for some teams in this World Cup, since he's the most technical player in this line, he's able to appear from the rival's back and shoot surprisingly. Anthony Mamani is your average Huayramarcan hockey player, an individual that might look dull on the ice sometimes, but has a great decision skill while receiving the puck, he might want to come from behind the goal and then shoot the goal tender when he doesn't expects.

Huayramarcan goalies tend to be strong physically and able to cover most of the goal in order to block shots, but they have some disadvantages because on how tall can they be, so five-hole is a real possibility to beat them but not so easily. Bin-Seok is one of the best QHL goalies (0.94 save average) , he has great reflexes and capability to block from short range hits to fast one-timers, his experience, despite being young, can provide motivation and a confident player in the riskiest positions that the game has to offer. Isaac Choque and Evo Morales are local league players, they were the two best goalies in the last HHL season, they have proved to be consistent and reliable goal tenders for their teams, having saving average of 0.92 and 0.91 each and they will be always ready to support the team when needed.

It was the first nationally recognized hockey rink that is allowed for professional use, despite the lack of professional teams back during the age of isolation. It was also, the first nationally recognized rink/stadium for any sport in Atheara back then. AC is available with Free WIFI, as is mandated for every single stadium in Atheara. Pararnavirae is a cold and mountainous kingdom. There is no day or night because it was independent since before God separated light from darkness. There is always a grayish half-light and the temperature usually hovers a little below freezing. Sometimes there are clouds or light snows. At lower altitudes it sometimes rains.

Pararnavirae is home to the gods of hepatitis and retroviruses, as well as certain kinds of plant viruses, etc. The Pararnaviraean Health Department will supply vaccines for all visiting players and staff to allow them to visit safely, but international spectators are recommended to stay home and enjoy the games on TV from the safety of your own country.

Fans are allowed to attend games in person; it's just not a very smart thing to do because of the health risks.

Games are not hosted in the Animal Kingdom because the Animal Kingdom does not have a large population of mortal immigrants, and does not want mortal visitors.

The drive to the training rink in downtown Nicksia was accompanied with more than the usual nerves for Brett Tanguay, Sr.

Sure, he'd made that drive before as a member of the coaching staff of the Sarzonian national ice hockey team. Several times, in fact. He knew the route by heart. Which side streets to take to avoid the usual traffic jam on Interstate 295, which street had the unmarked police vehicles lying in wait for someone running afoul of the laws, and which street had the best café serving Pacitalian coffee and Delaclav desserts.

The thing that was different about this drive? He was making this drive on the first day of training for his first full World Cup cycle as the Stars manager. Prior to the opening of World Cup 44, he was an assistant manager under Paul Bremerton. In that role, he knew all eyes would be on Bremerton and the various line changes and lineup decisions he would make over the course of a qualifying campaign. He would be little more than a curiosity as the father of Brett, Jr. the emerging young star player who was stepping into the considerable skates of Sylvan Turcotte as the brightest Star. He was merely the offensive mind for a notoriously defence-oriented Bremerton when World Cup 43 qualifying in Kelssek began.

But now, he was the manager. He was now implementing a new system that would favour an attack mindset a bit more than the usual defence-oriented play under Bremerton. He didn't really have time to implement the system he wanted after taking over for the fired Bremerton during qualifying, but the Stars took to the change in the voice at the top the previous time. Even though Sarzonia's run ended in the usual way at the usual place: A quarterfinals defeat to Valanora, it was still a stirring comeback for the Stars to even get into the knockout rounds considering the talent the Stars had to battle against.

They would get more of the same in qualifying this time, although they'd get to have a few matches in front of their home fans at Bank of Sarzonia Arena in Nicksia. They'd have to face third ranked Mercedini, No. 12 Savorjarna, 25th ranked Gergary, No. 30 Sannyamathland, 55th ranked Atheara and unranked newcomers StrayaRoos in Group F. Astute Stars fans would likely remember the previous time a highly-ranked Mercedini shared a group with the Stars. Sarzonia pulled off not one, but two unbelievable upsets and qualified for the knockout rounds in part due to those stirring victories. Their history with Savorjarna, now ranked one spot below Sarzonia was ... not as successful. The Stars got off on the wrong foot with a 6-2 rout at the hands of the Savorjars. The junior team played to a 1-1 draw against them in the 15th World Junior Hockey Championships.

Sarzonia didn't have much of a history with the other teams in the group. They did defeat Sannyamathland 4-0 in the group stage in the previous World Cup of Hockey en route to qualifying after they rallied to an overall 5-1-1-1 record under the elder Tanguay. Of greater concern for goaltender Jacob Parsons is the team's history with Mercedini. A team that might have taken the Stars for granted in the first leg that suddenly had to pay attention for the second leg, but lost anyway, was certainly not going to make the same mistake again in this World Cup of Hockey with Sarzonia as the second highest seeded team in the group.

"We're going to assume any match against Mercedini is going to feel like a rivalry," Parsons said. "It's a good thing we'll get a bye after facing them each time." Sarzonia will play Savorjarna coming out of the bye each time.

The clock is ticking for some of our players...and maybe for the coach, too. We entered the last WCoH on a high after the Miracle on Ice but then we got really unlucky and ended up 5-6, 4 points off the Top 4. Now, finally, we're back for a 12-game, 7-team group stage where only the Top 3 teams can make the next round, with the Top 14 (Top 2 in each group + Top 2 3rd-placed teams) making the Round of 16 automatically while seeds 15-18 have to play a Play-Off to determine the final 2 teams. Quebec and Shingoryeo are the hosts, as well as our group mates, but they will not host the group stage - meaning that, for the first time in 6 years, WCoH action will return to New Washington and everyone is excited for that.

Maybe the return to home ice will be exactly what Ølson Rasmussen needs to turn these #19 Ice Jaguars around, and he knows he may not have much time for that at all. He finds himself under pressure once more to get this team into that playoff come what may as many feel if he doesn't this time, then his fate may finally be sealed. There's also the player factor, as many on this team are now over 30 and may consider hanging their skates at the end of this ride. No matter what happens over the next few weeks, a new ear is coming soon and no one will know what that may look like until this team finds its place in this competition.

IT'S FINALLY BACK! After 6 years away, International Hockey finally returns to New Washington and The Rink in The Gardens! You'd think that The Gardens of New Washington would demand a bigger venue for their ice hockey arena, but they wanted to pay tribute to the Secretary-General here. His hometown in U1 has a small rink of similar capacity, so developers decided to build The Rink to have a similar feel. While it may be small, the fans make it sound like there are a lot more people in there - NAU ice hockey fans are known for being loud and boisterous when required.

Head Coach: Suzanna Marmont, 59 - The head coach of the Chromatik Ice Storm will not be a coach of the CHL per the League's decision. Instead, they turn to one Suzanna Marmont, who may not know the most about the sport but is quite good at organizing people and getting them to act together as a unit. Despite the fact that she may not be able to educate the players on how to play, hopes are she'll be able to help them gel together as a unit.
Assistant Coach: Bryson Sindari, 41 - A valuable member of the Felswyr Viceroys staff, Bryson Sindari is a savant when it comes to Ice Hockey play development in Chromatika. It remains to be seen just how much that's translatable to the world stage.
Goalkeeper Coach: Jason Dumond, 44 - The man who helped both Dorothy Belmont and Dustin Mast to where they are, Dumond runs a goalkeeping school in Chromia for anyone who wishes to learn. He stresses excellence and consistency, two things that any keeper must have a firm hand on.

RW Ludovic Blanc, 25, Chromia Lancers - A purely offensive winger with an aptitude of speed, Blanc struggles against bigger opposition.
C Ségolène De Villiers, 27, Myana Penguins - A great all-around player whose first touch is a thing of beauty. A good assist threat.
LW Loren Basalter, 32, Felswyr Glaciers - A quick player with great puck-handling skills and the primary scoring threat for the Ice Storm, Basalter was the only consistent goalscoring threat for the Viceroys and instrumental in their triumph at the first two seasons of the Chromatik Hockey League. CAPTAIN
RD Josephine Galmont, 28, Chromia Lancers - The cheeky member of the group, Josephine Galmont led the Chromatik Hockey League with minutes in the Penalty Box in the inaugural season. She's smart about when to go in, though, and won't take a penalty for no reason. Despite her enforcer nature, she's also decent at her job of protecting the net as well.
LD Rowena Hauptman, 25, Felswyr Viceroys - The best defenseman in the nation, Rowena Hauptman famously gave up a full ride to Chromia Central College University to play fullback for the Comets, opting for the lesser known sport of ice hockey instead. She may not be the biggest, barely six feet tall, but she's quick on her feet with a seemingly endless pool of energy.
GK Dorothy Belmont, 24, Felswyr Viceroys - Had a much rougher season, but was still instrumental on how the Viceroys clinched their second title. She can be a bit slow in reacting to sudden changes in play, but when she has the chance to square up, there isn't really anyone better in the country in front of the net.

Reserves
RW Bérangère Levett, 29, Lhor Peregrine Falcons - A much bigger winger (at 6 ft, 7 in) who isn't afraid to use his size to get past defenders and smash the puck in.
C Jared Dumond, 24, Felswyr Glaciers - The best offensive minded center in the sport in Chromatika, he led all centers in goalscoring this past season. That isn't to say he's half bad at passing - he just prefers to finish the job if he can.
LW Wiles Roman, 29, D'rea Metropolitans - The Metropolitans had the second highest goalscoring output in the league and made it to the postseason, and Wiles was one of their best. He likes to run directly at people, choosing to either pass the puck off or shoot right before he's about to hit the defenseman.
RD Lereux Pandoval, 30, Myana Penguins - A more offensive minded defenseman who likes to contribute assists. He's quite good at moving up and down the rink and contributes the most during penalty plays.
LD Yvon Dufresne, 27, Tihon Typhoon - Likes to stay on his side of the rink, preferring to press the play instead of join the attack himself.
GK Dustin Mast, 24, Chromia Lancers - A more instinctual keeper, Dustin Mast plays his best game in the flow of things when reaction is king. He's a bit injury-prone, but when he's available, he's a solid option.

W Élisée Leloup, 23 - Umbar Argonauts - The fastest skater on the squad who can make a few flashy plays.
C Mickaël Gueguen, 26 - Chromia Knights - A big body to throw in when lacking size, Gueguen isn't very good on offense.
D Jerry Monat, 29 - Myana Penguins - Monat is deceptively good at being at the right place at the right time defensively but doesn't do much on the other end.
GK Anne-Marie Martin, 22 - Urrheddiao Kings - Still growing keeper who is decent at the close game but not very good at stopping ranged shots.

Ice Hockey in Le Choix: Like all sports in the Theocracy, players were chosen from a pool of citizens who showed an aptitude for the sport from a young age. Ice hockey has been one of the newest sports in the Theocracy, with the Ligue de Glace having run for only ten editions. As the Theocracy isn't a particularly cold nation, all play within the Theocracy are done in indoor arenas, with most of the facilities being in the Capital city of Espoir du Ciel. Four clubs call the city their home, while two are in the nearby city of Lumière, two in the city of Gelée, and one each in the small towns of Gardienne and Jardin. The Ligue de Glace has been dominated by two of the Capital clubs, Les Loups d'Hiver (The Winter Wolves) and Les Ours Polaires (The Polar Bears). The Chosen play more of a suffocating defensive style, electing to use counterattacks to score just enough goals to be relevant; nobody in the Ligue de Glace play offensive hockey. Mathias Adnet is the biggest reason that the Ours Polaires, or Polar Bears, have been atop the table the last three seasons after winning their most recent title. The heir apparent of longtime Ours Polaires player Justin Foix, Adnet has some issues in big-game situations (two Game 7 defeats in the semifinals of the Coupe de Glace that led to the eventual champion win proves that) but is proficient enough in regular play.

Florent Boudreaux is a one-time Coupe de Glace MVP after being the main keeper on Les Loups d'Hiver's run to the Season 9 title in Year 531 Post-Jump. Florent is a more aggressive keeper who likes to meet would-be scorers head on, using his size to stop their advances. Napoleon Arthur has been playing ice hockey since he was 11, one of the citizens that were chosen for the sport from such a young age, leading to his knowledge and instinct of the sport being very formed.

Fabrice Poullain is here to learn. The WJHC star deserves the opportunity.

Cécile Lamar is the Captain of Les Ours Polaires, and is one of the shrewdest in the sport in the Theocracy, weaving in and out between attack and defense with ease, while Clarita Carton is more of a pure defender, doing not much more than pushing the puck to the center.

Régine Tailler is a solid second-choice right defenseman, providing a physical presence when needed and one of the best when it comes to Penalty Kills, while Lotya Hedin is more of a hybrid type that can also play on the attack on penalty plays. Diahann Loiselle is more of a raw prospect, having been chosen for ice hockey only for the last three years and here to gain valuable experience; Andree Breaux provides good locker room presence.

Tourigny is a solid distributor of the puck and can surprise opponents with shots from range. Susanne Guiton is more of a pure defensive center despite being only eighteen; Michelle Burdin provides a solid body, not really specializing on anything but decent at everything.

Timothé Robineau will be around for many tournaments to come, he's here to soak up all he see.

On the bench, Josette Mousseau and Suzanne Dauphin are here to just gain some experience, Mousseau better in transition and Dauphin being more of a player working off of plans; Rayder Valliere is a good hybrid winger who can play far back if needed and Adélaïde Le Sueur provides solid minutes off the bench, being someone who's coming up in the league.

Victoire Baillairgé is the most likely of the three from WJHC to have any meaningful minutes.

Ericsson graduated from West Vik University last year and was drafted by the Vengeance in an attempt to change their fortunes. It worked; the team from Valley Fold placed an unexpected 8th.

SYSTEMS:

OOC: These are more guidelines than rules, but if you ever want to talk about systems and how you plan to counter them, here they are.
Forecheck: The "ABC" forecheck. One player pressures opposing defensemen while other players cover all other players so that the other team is left with no options.

Even Strength Defensive Zone: Below the tops of the circles is man-on-man play; above them is zone play. Important: If an opposing player moves from above to below or vice-versa, coverage changes.

Breakout: The "Pull", used to create either defensive panic or a 1-on-0 advantage. The weakside winger begins skating as soon as they see puck possession is theirs; strongside wing and center set up in typical breakout procedure, with the added option of a speeding weakside winger.

Powerplay: The "Umbrella". The idea is to get either a shot from the slot, a cross-ice pass for a shot, or a shot for a rebound and a scramble in front of the net.

HOSTING:

AirCordia Center: Hosting matchdays 2 and 4. Capacity 17,900, located in Lakeshore, home of league champions Lakeside Warriors. A middle-aged arena, nothing great about it but also nothing terrible.

East Jutland Arena: Hosting matchdays 7, 8, and 10. Capacity 23,000, located in Jutland, home of 3rd place Jutland Riveters. An arena built in the last five years, East Jutland has incredible sight lines and amenities that anyone would enjoy (warmed seats, anyone?).

Cordasfjord Colusseum: Hosting matchday 12. Capacity 60,000, located in Cordasfjord, home of Cordasfjord FC (CIFA) and the Cordasfjord Lancers (CLL). The Colusseum is an old, outdoor (!!) arena with okay sightlines, but there is a lot of history associated with it, including the first running of the Cordia Cup. It will be a perfect place to end the group stage and send off the Cordian team to their final group stage match and, hopefully, to Quebec for the playoffs.

Hockey in Cordia is on par with football in popularity. With a robust college and youth system, players often don't enter the league until they reach 22, with a few exceptional cases. The national league is the Cordian Isles Hockey League, whose second season is to begin after the WCoH. The reigning league champions are the Lakeside Warriors, with the Cordasfjord Crusaders in second and Jutland fielding the third- and fourth-place teams. Cordian hockey as coached by Kress "Terrible" Thomassen is exceptionally aggressive, trading defensive mistakes for offensive chances, relying on a strong forecheck to keep the puck out of their own zone. Players are expected to play a physical game; expect hits, but mostly to make the play. Petty penalties may happen, especially in rough losses. Oh, and you'll hear plenty of trash talk on the ice. A true Cordian talks a good game. Even inside their own zone, Cordian forwards will cheat up at the first sign of possession, a risky move that leaves men on both teams open and can work either way. As a result, the WCoH Federation rates Cordia's playstyle a +3.5.

OK Dave, you got lucky. Sure there were a few embarrassing defeats like getting bitch-slapped 13-3 by Nova Anglicana, losing 8-6 to reigning champs Siovanija and Teusland, 3-0 to the hosts Kelssek (the first time your side failed to find the net presumably because they kept firing it into their own), a narrow 2-1 defeat to Reçueçn (sp?) and a 7-3 defeat to Savojarna at the end, amongst others. But it wasn't all bad. You somehow beat Sarzonia 4-2 in a match that saw them fire their head coach afterwards. And you did manage to somehow win a shootout against Magnecia, who eventually finished dead last in the group and had the worst record all tournament. So at least it could be worse.

The professionalism is getting more noticeable. Not only is the coaching staff (somewhat) full time, they've also introduced the more 'global' sides of ice hockey that have been largely absent from the Ko-orenite league so far. Most noticeably: different tasks for different lines. In the league, it's still often seen as a 'depth chart' thing: the best players on line 1, the worst ones on line 4 (or 3, if your roster isn't large enough). Forward-thinking teams like the West Coast Blizzards and Launott Polar Bears - and now the national team - are employing lines for a certain play style rather than purely skill.

Asheim is a surprise, he never was on everyone's mind until this season. For him, his breakthrough season came at age 29, that's all. Nyan and Buck, the West Coast duo, are put in the line that matches their play style best, with Enibel as the star centre on line 1. Left wing is a strong position, with four players in their prime. Right wing is clearly worse with Aiamalod as the exception. IJsberg lost some touch, Werree is new to the national team, and Ailise is good enough for a national team but losing athleticism. When it comes to skating and technique, the right wingers are much better than the left wingers, but in terms of durability and toughness, the left wing has it. And while Ko-oren doesn't play a physical style at all, stamina is extremely important as a selection criterium.

The Ko-orenite league cracked down on fighting to speed games up. Don't be surprised if the Dragonflies don't respond to a call to arms. Ice hockey is a regional (but not necessarily small) sport in Ko-oren, limited to frigid Aerellen, the temperate (but cold) northeast, and parts of the unwelcoming west coast. Venues are limited, and Aerellen's largest venue hosts multiple games per day while the season is on, so speeding up games and keeping them plannable is key. Languages used by the team are Dutch and Aerellen (Ko-orenite). Aerellen names are easily recognisable, they start with vowels, featuring many Au, Ao, Ai, Ae combinations at the start of each word. Tarrashall is also a culture that you'll run into, famous players from there include Hallady Buck and Yaller Nyan, and they often play for the West Coast Blizzards.

The league has made the move from amateurism/semi-professionalism to fully professional over the last year. To get there, some teams were moved, some merged, others folded while new teams (in different locations) sprang up to fill the void. This has left part of the fanbase bitter and resentful: their team might have moved, a 80+ year old rivalry might have disappeared, etc. The rest of the fanbase has been very welcoming: more of Ko-oren can enjoy the fastest team sport in the multiverse. Still, the league didn't exactly expand beyond its usual borders (Aerellen, the northeast, and the north coast). There's also the matter of Banija's team in Schemerdrecht: while opening up the city to ice hockey, it has taken away expansion opportunities.

The first forward line should combine Curtis and Mann's experience with Robert Moran's speed to force and capitalise off of turnovers. The second line is more suited for possession in the offensive zone with Camille Danault's passing being an integral part of the Bears success in recent years. The third line combines young talent from around the league. It should be a useful learning experience for them for future competitions. The fourth line brings grit and tenacity, they won't light the lamp often but they shouldn't make many punishable mistakes in the defensive zone.

"Faster! Faster!"

Brett Tanguay, Sr. was holding the whistle that usually dangled from the string on his neck as he watched his team during a drill.

He'd decided to employ a more attack-oriented offence even though the squad employing that system was the same one that played the more defence-oriented system preferred by former manager Paul Bremerton.

"Pass the puck! Dammit! You had an open man!"

Exasperated, Bremerton blew the whistle to stop his team. He gathered the unit around him.

"Team," he said, "we're still stuck in many of the same habits," he said after he'd ensured that every last player was within earshot. "I'd rather you take a shot when it's open than look for the perfect shot," he said. "Forget the perfect shot. That doesn't exist."

He looked intently at his first line, especially the lanky left wing Matt Davies and the relatively stocky centre Nate Barnes. They were still holding the puck, looking for openings instead of passing and it was allowing the checking line to catch up and force turnovers. Davies was doing better about finding passing lanes, but Barnes wasn't looking to pass. He'd sat his son Brett Tanguay, Jr. in favour of Calan Leftwich because Jr. was still recovering from a tonsilectomy he'd had in the days prior. Besides, having the player not receiving the passes from Barnes and Davies be someone other than his own son was a consideration too. Even though he'd likely have earned the benefit of the doubt from the team that he wasn't favouring Junior, he still didn't want the suggestion of nepotism.

"Calan's was open right here," Tanguay said, showing the players a tablet with video that, in fact, showed Leftwich getting open and tapping his stick to try to draw attention from Davies to pass the puck down to him as they simulated a five-on-three power play. "Nate, what did you see?" He looked at Barnes, who looked like he saw Leftwich, but still held the puck. When Barnes didn't answer, Senior felt white hot anger building up, but he quickly realised that it was possible that Barnes was so ingrained in the old system under Bremerton that it would take getting used to for him to instinctively fire the puck to Leftwich. Or, when the regular matches start, Junior.

"Guy-uh, team," Senior said, looking out and seeing second line centre Alyssa Hannigan and nonbinary right winger Terré Sombulier and realising his mistake, "Look, I know it's taking some getting used to with a new system especially since we're used to Coach Bremerton's system. It's taking me a little getting used to, frankly. But that's why we're spending so much time in training working on the fundamentals. I want us to be as fluid as possible when we hit the ice at Bank of Sarzonia Arena against StrayaRoos. We've still got some work to do."

After the players went back to the dressing room to shower and get dressed, Senior watched his son approach him and sit down on the bench next to him.

"How you feeling, son?"

"I'm OK," Junior said. "I could have played if we had a match today."

"Yeah, I know," Senior said. "But this is why we have training camp and friendlies. It gives you a chance to get some rest and be at your best, and it gives me a chance to get some players more ice time than they'll get when the matches start counting."

"Yeah, Dad, I know," Junior said. "Doesn't make it any easier to not be out there."

Speaking of not being out there, starting goaltender Jacob Parsons was having one of his rough mornings, so reserve netminder Owen Franks started in his place. The team used 33-year-old former backup Yuri Evgenikov as the scout team goalkeeper and goalie coach Pete Peeters looked grimly at the set of pads that was earmarked for him. If something happened to both Parsons and Franks during a match, the 58-year-old would have to actually put on pads and play. Obviously, they would call on Evgenikov if either Parsons or Franks would be out long term. Junior felt the vibrations of his mobile phone and absentmindedly pulled it out and gave a glance. His eyes widened.

"Dad," Junior said. "Jake's been taken to Woodstock General."

"What?!" Senior looked at his son handing him his mobile phone and noticed a suddenly ashen look on his face. It took a beat or two longer than usual for Senior to retrieve the phone from his son as Junior's hand shook. He stared.

Suicide attempt. He'd be OK, but they were keeping him in hospital for observation.

All of a sudden, learning a new system and getting his players to adapt to it was the last thing on either Brett Tanguay's mind as they both hightailed it to the airport for a hastily arranged flight to Woodstock International Jetport and then a drive to Woodstock General Hospital.

Ice hockey is the most popular sport in Elejamie, followed by football/soccer (both are acceptable in Elejamie) and rugby [union], In fact, the men's national team - nicknamed the Ice-a-phants as of 2021 - were one of the best teams in the multiverse, having made the World Cup of Hockey finals four times in four consecutive competitions; winning two (29th edition against Gregoryisgodistan and 31st edition against Valanora) and losing two (30th and 32nd, both times against Valanora), as well as two bronze medal games; although the B-team won a gold medal in the men's ice hockey at the 12th Winter Olympics, they're considered a different team and as a result their achievement is not counted alongside the three WCoH wins. They were also been one of the best teams in the tournament, very nearly making it out of the group stage in their inaugural tournament, making it to the quarter-finals in their second, winning the bronze in their third and staying in the top ten in rankings since the 29th edition (and top 3 since the 30th WCoH), even nabbing a third trophy in the 35th edition. However a disappointing and controversial run in the 38th tournament saw them withdraw from the competition in anger for a few editions (with former WCoH vice president Ed Peak even stepping down from his role and retiring from the public eye until his death in 2020) and their runs in in the 41st and 42nd editions were uphill battles to try and return to relevance and, while a shock win at the 43rd edition was enough to add a fourth star to their jersey, it's just a matter of whether they've returned to their former glory or if that was just a fluke. It all depends on when they'll inevitably end up facing their old rivals in the Calcuttas.

Hockey in Quebec & Shingoryeo: Everybody know, to some degree, about the history of excellence and the list of international honours won by the Ice Knights, who have been one of the most decorated sides in the Multiverse. The Quebecois national team, nicknamed Ice Knights (unlike the traditional Grim Reapers nickname used for most other sports), has stood as one of the most historic teams still competing in the international hockey world. Alongside Valanora, Gregoryisgodistan, Havl and Gyatso-Kai, the Ice Knights have been the name to fear in the 20s of the World Cup of Hockey.

That said, the sport has been in a mixed state of affairs as of late due to many reasons. If basketball and volleyball may be on a so-called boom in Quebec and Shingoryeo, the very opposite is happening here. Sure, the hockey games aren't having issues filling up the arenas, and the player numbers remain stable. That said, however, there is a serious challenge the sport faces as the consistent disputes between the Quebecois Hockey League, the Quebecois Hockey Players' Association, and Hockey Quebec, that limits the player pool of national team hockey selections that hasn't helped nobody in keeping the level of interest continue. As a result, for past decade and half their results have been somewhat inconsistent due to their inability to field the best teams at times. In recent times, the teams sent have varied across the board, whether it be a full-strength (37, 40, 42), a mix of third and fourth liners (38, 39, 41) or junior national teamers (43), but Hockey Quebec hopes there will be some form of consistency established in the future-time with its hosting of the World Cup of Hockey 44.

Sir. Alexandre Browne-Hahm's certainly one of the greatest coaches in the history of Quebecois hockey. The former hall-of-famer, who was the starting goaltender of the World Cup of Hockey 26 championship team, has continued his success with a solid coaching career. His body of work would prove that after all, with a 3rd and 9th place finish on the two World Cups he managed in 40 and 43, and last four straight Prenneau Cups for the Kingston Knights dynasty. And while he has not always shown up to coach the Ice Knights at times, as have shown with his refusal to coach the Quebecois national team for WCoH 41 and 43 when the Kingston native wasn't given the complete rights to call up any player available, he is and will remain fully committed whenever he signs up for the job.

Right beside him, he is supported by his longtime colleague George Thrope-Chun of CSKA Quebec fame, and a young, second assistant coach named Hannah Barnes-Morin, the four year PLI Islanders coach who is widely viewed as Browne-Hahm's successor in few years' time.

Three years after her rise to the starting position during the Ice Knights' magical World Cup of Hockey 42 run, Brianne Kigatilik returns to the Quebecois national team as their starting goaltender. Kigatilik, the true butterfly goaltender, is not the best in positioning but makes up for her deficiencies with remarkable flexes, something that she has shown off in St. John's Celtics games where she would routinely be fired with 30+ shots a game.

There's also Bridget-Anne Heeney, the former Ice Knights' starter whose 0.924% saving percentage of excellence continues to be underrated due to how defensively proficient Kingston Knights have been over their dynasty years, and rookie Benedict Shin. The CSKA Quebec rookie has been viewed by many as the best goaltending prospect since the days of Sir. Alexandre himself, and the hybrid goaltender is rumoured to be the next in line as the starting goaltender of this team that has seen every shape and form of goaltender turnovers in recent cycles. Of course, Sir. Alexandre is aware of how goaltending prospects need to be handled, especially on the international level, and is not going to be in rush to start Shin rightaway.

Entering this World Cup of Hockey, coach Browne has struggled to decide between going for a clear-cut top line with positional switches, or to go for the most natural line options possible. After some time, he decided to go for the latter, and came this dynamic, all-arounded top line. Michael McKenna is a fluid, physically bruising power forward who can be relied upon most situations and has served as a spiritual leader for the team that has gone through all forms of changes and struggles. He usually is the man in front of the ice, and loves to do anything to score. Being the third wheel of this team, McKenna is not afraid to aggravate his opposing players or just initiate fights, essentially being a villain out of his own choice and loving every second of it.

Hong Deok-Seon is an average-sized playmaker whose on-ice vision is more than impressive, and whose finest moment came in a shootout winner over Cassadaigua in the third-place match of the World Cup of Hockey 43. Now aged 29 and having multiple WCoHs on her belt, Hong has evolved into a vocal leader for this Ice Knights team that needs it, and knows her best to behave like a true hockey icon she is. On the left wing is sniper Geraldine Otter-Gormley who has made names across the multiverse for her one-timer shots from the left faceoff circle named 'GOG's GAG CORNER'. While it is Hong who is viewed by everybody as the best overall player, her goal celebrations, hilarious press conference remarks and reality show appearances likely put Geraldine Otter-Gormley as the most famous Quebecois hockey player out there.

LD - #2 - Claire Katsitsanéron - F - 20 - 6'2", 210 lb - Saint John Acadiens
RD - #3 - Benoit Starmer-Jodoin - 26 - M - 6'9", 268 lb - Kingston Knights

There once was a time when the Ice Knights had a great top pairing for few years and it got them into many places, like a 9-1-0 run in the WCoH 40 group stage and the third-place just four years after that. Of course, not everything can last forever and thus the Yi-Jodoin pairing had to be separated, as Henri-Michael Yi was demoted to the second-pair duties. Remaining on the top-pairing will be Benoit 'Star-Joker' Starmer-Jodoin, as the massive defenceman continues to assert his presence on the ice with his massive size, cannon of a shot, and the ability to bodycheck into the wall like how Teus commentator Oskar Kirsche wants a junior player to backcheck his rival player. Still one of the best defencemen in multiverse, ever-so-humorous 'Star-Joker' will bring back the glee and the jokes into the ice and the interviews.

He will be joined on the top pairing by Claire Katsitsanéron, an offensive defenceman with excellent skating abilities and solid vision to help out the team on the offensive game. The defensive prodigy, while still has to grow further into her frame, is viewed by many as an excellent linemate option for Starmer-Jodoin and should help out the team on powerplay, one area where they have either shone bright (4/8 conversion rate on the semifinals of WCoH 42 against the Goldhorns of all team)...or fall flat.

Line 1B:

C - #15 - Hwang Dong-Joon - 21 - M - 6'2", 219 lb - Montreal Koreana
RW - #19 - Baek Chan-Sook - 23 - F - 6'3", 226 lb - Gander Jets

This line was put together this cycle, and despite solid size all three forwards carry, the chemistry is where the second line's expected to have lot more challenge this cycle. Among the three, Eloise Cha-Meunier is probably at his best form in this point and time, especially with the way her CSKA Quebec side has ben playing over the first half of the QHL season. Hwang Dong-Joon's had a 29-goal, 71-point season last season, something that brought him to the MVP considerations back then, but Hwang has struggled with inconsistent forms early into this season that coach Browne and co. have decided not to put him as a top-line winger yet. Instead, he is placed as a second-line centre, with highly capable winger in Cha-Meunier and a smooth-skating playmaker in Baek Chan-Sook to do bit more job for him. This line's not as quick as the top line or even the third line, but really clicks and scores in bunches when the lightning strikes the bottle - now they just have to do that a bit more often.

LD - #4 - Henri-Michael Yi - 27 - M - 6'0", 198 lb - Saint John Acadiens -- ALTERNATE CAPTAIN
RD - #5 - Nikos Aravossitas - 23 - M - 6'2", 228 lb - South Bend Caribou

Henri-Michael Yi's been one of the best defencemen, if not the best defensive defenceman, in Quebec and Shingoryeo over last five years. While slightly undersized, he's a fast skater whose ability to maintain puck possession and on-ice positioning is at another level. While underrated on the offence with solid passing ability, he prefers to stay on the zone and complete penalty-kill duties as wanted. Nikos Aravossitas is a solid two-way defenceman who knows how to produce points with a powerful wrist shot. Since his junior days, the defenceman has evolved into a highly-dependable piece, and he has an importantly role to lead in powerplay and on the rush.

Line 2:
LW - #11 - Eileen Pellan - 33 - F - 6'2", 208 lb - Kingston Knights -- ALTERNATE CAPTAIN
C - #19 - Jean-Gabriel Talon - 24 - M - 6'4", 230 lb - Halifax Highlanders
RW - #7 - Joel Katsitsanéron - 20 - M - 6'0", 191 lb - CSKA Quebec

There is a mix of potential on this third line that has an uber-physical power forward in Eileen 'The Heart' Pellan, an awkwardly multi-tooled centreman in Jean-Gabriel Talon and a powerful sniper in Joel Katsitsanéron. The general consensus is that this line is capable of pulling primetime defensive duties where needed, and it is probable Pellan can be used for PKs and Katsitsanéron powerplays. As for Tallon, it's hard to say - he can be relied upon a variety of duties but his development hasn't panned out well, a sign that his ceiling with this team as a very good middle-six forward but awful top liner, may have been already reached.

RD - #8 - Christina Sanipass - 21 - F - 6'2", 207 lb - CSKA Quebec

The decision to pairing Dannick Nam, an undersized muscular kirby, with Christina Sanipass hasn't been an easy one for the coach Browne and co. to defend it per se. Nam is a defenceman whose puckhandling skills, energy and stamina, have helped him overcome his physical limits, but Christina Sanipass, while defensively reliable, is prone to getting penalties at worst timing possible.

Line 3:

As with the third line, this fourth line has a solid mix of grit and skill to compliment themselves. The awkward mix of the players, however, would be something to notice as the first-timer Jafarov is a menacing presence in front of the goal, while Patrik-Felix Asperup is an uber-undersized centreman with excellent faceoff abilities and solid penalty-kills, but can be pushed around by bigger centres at times. Sophomore sensation Alexis-Felix Tavernier, in the meanwhile, is a pure scorer with lovely slapshot and acceleration. The reigning rookie of the year, who has had solid showcase with the Ice Knights last WCoH under the Under-20 team, thrives off attention and will do anything to warrantee himself into more icetime.

RD - #6 - Erina McGrath - 24 - 6'1", 193 lb - Montreal Koreana
RD - #5 - Felix-Andre Joseph - 21 - M - 6'4", 217 lb - PLI Islanders

This is a fairly generic fourth-line, even by Quebecois standards. Unlike the usual high-tempo game emphasised for the Grim Reapers, blueliners McGrath and Joseph will be expected to keep their stick tight with a low-tempo mindset, and the emphasis on 'getting the puck out of their own zone'. Both McGrath and Joseph are underrated in transition game though, and when paired up with a couple of solid snipers, can always go for solid feeds. Joseph's wrister is pretty good too.

Tactics
The Nepharim don't have many technical players in their ranks, but they are an intimidating physical prospect to face, bonded by an indomitable team spirit that transcends club and state rivalries the moment they pull on the green jersey. They play to their advantage, backing themselves in defence and striking hard and decisively on the counterattack.

At least, that was the identity, once. Nephara were okay at ice hockey for a while, but funding has waned and the golden generation passed. They'll battle hard and with a bloody-mindedness that is sure to endear them to international fans.

Brun is a legitimately excellent talent and will be looking for a contract abroad on the strength of her performances in the tournament. The others... well, they're there.

The Buio'Dzz
Before every match, the team members (including the designated substitutes for the match) will perform a traditional ritual, called the Buio'Dzz on the pitch just before play begins. The Buio'Dzz performed by the Maplish sports teams are from the Mapli-ane, one of the largest aboriginal groups in Mapletish. The Buio'Dzz originated from the sun god, Inaka, a Mapli-ane creation. To celebrate the birth of his son Arone, Inaka broke into a dance while humming a poem to celebrate the occasion. This continued to be the foundation of all tribe dances done by the Maplish aboriginals. The Buio'Dzz is just one of the many tribe war dances from the aboriginals of Mapletish. It is meant to awe and to challenge their opponents in the sports context today. This is similar to the [RL] New Zealanders' haka before their matches. It is performed by a group of people, with intensity and vigour. Actions are performed rhythmically including foot-stamping, tongue protrusions, rhythmic body slapping, clapping of the hands, and an accompaniment of shouting in the aboriginal dialect, which may represent tribal poems passed down from the ancestors of the particular tribe, or a poem that marks the events of a particular tribe. This ceremonial dance ritual also fulfills social functions such as weddings, funerals and celebration of great achievements, occasions, other than the anticipation of war from its earlier intentions. This would be performed unless the hosts of the match in question object to the ritual.

Notes
The entrance to the World Cup of Hockey 44 (WCoH 44) will be the first time the Dragons enter a multiverse ice hockey tournament following since World Cup of Hockey 42. Daryl Richardson resumes helm at the top of the Maplish ice-hockey set up following a disappointing 9th place finish in the Group of Swords in a 13 nations group back in WCoH 42. Despite the glaring finish that could be easily identified, the Dragons had the group's best defence conceding only 9 goals in 12 matches, they too held the group's record for having the worst offence with 13 goals scored in 12 matches.

The ongoing dispute between the national sports organsiations and the Mapletish Board of Sports Organisations (MBSO) is set to continue as the professional ice hockey clubs or the Big Twenty Sports Club were unwilling to release their youth players to participate in this edition of the WCoH44. It is not known whether this boycott will end anytime soon but judging from the state of affairs, it will be unlikely that any professional team will release their players anytime soon to keep with the boycott. As such head coach, Darryl Richardson is tasked to bring his Men's ice-hockey squad from the national team development setup. This squad of 18 players had last played together in the WCoH 42.

After making his debut in WCoH XL, Shu Pianhuo returns to his place between the pipes for the fifth straight tournament; jumping over the two perennial backups for the National Team – Ming Zhanshi and Dang Mun-Hee – and securing his place in net. A younger goalie, who managed to win his first Kuruk Cup within his first three seasons at Omashu. Shu has proven his family proud, developing into a fine starting goalie whose style continues to evolve over time.

The defensive pair for the first line remains the same since WCoH XLI, with Omashu-fan-favorite Watang Kouji paired with Hed Torvik of Itakawai fame. A defensive line with over 200 kilos is somewhat of an Avatarian tradition, where speed is often sacrificed for power, though even for their size, Avatarian hockey players tend to be faster than one would expect. Watang, out of the Fire Nation, is known for powerful forechecks and his insane speed on the backskate; while Hed, otherwise known as the “Mandalorian Shield”, is just as impressive at generating offence as he is pushing another player into the boards.

The forward line, albeit a bit old, is anchored by the youthful Hosaka Severi, who started on the second line before his promotion to the first; with his blinding speed on the ice, Hosaka has been a great asset for assisting on the wings and driving offense with the Avatarian standard of dump and play. Kobushi Kaede, an impressive left-winger from Omashu – has continued to hold down his end of the line, shifting more to the defensive side with the recent changes in style. Song Unataq, who has always been more defensively-minded, continues the trend of the line to be more interested in keeping puck possession and breaking up offensive rushes through size and determination. Though for Song, this is set to be his last tournament; having confirmed his retirement for multi-verse play at the start of this campaign. Perhaps this will be the year for more hardware to make its way to Republic City…

With Hiteki Kia having over a century of caps on the Ice Bisons under his belt, he is the most seasoned player on the team, and rightfully wears the first A. With age and skill, Hiteki is renowned for his ability as "damage control" through the last four World Cups he played in. Having changed up his usual pairing from Hed Torvik to Ero’ki Nacer, the young right defensemen from Hatsu University and second year Badgermole finds himself yet again beneath the wings of “Sifu Hiteki” as many of the younger players respectfully refer to him as such. Nacer, who graduated right out of Hatsu University to sign an entry-level contract with the Badgermoles, found his number being called in the final games of the 2020.2 Regular Season, when last season’s first pick Hu Jiaozi was taken out of the season with a bad trip that saw him slide skate-first into the boards and break his tibia in two places. With an impressive season in the Republic Hockey League underway with the Humoki Huangdogs, he made the transition to AHL-level play with ease, and scored his first AHL goal against the Itakawai Lightning in Game One of the Finals.

On offense, Wang Torsti from Si Wong finds himself on the left side of the ice, after a renewed contract with Si Wong has been paying off for him. Opposite him we find Cheung Sepi who has continued to carve his name in the banks of the Kelita River. Even though he has been moved from the first line, Cheung is not taking it as an insult, and instead, viewing it as a chance to sharpen his own skills on the off-handed plays. In the middle, another once-first-liner Nestori Huan finds his return to the line better known for damage control rather than scoring. However, with his impressive knowledge and vision that had earned him his spot on the first line last World Cup, Huan may very well prove his doubters wrong and bring some glory to the second line… or find himself fading into obscurity…

With the retirement of Kuang Deniigi after the AOlympics, the young Degour Niyan has been called up from the reserves to take his place. A scrappy young Mandalorian from the eastern reaches, Degour is incredibly volatile and prone to egging his opponents on to get into their heads. Pairing him with Ki’an Losow gives the youthful inexperience a master’s overwatch. Though, as Losow has been fond of saying, it is only a matter of time before he himself is no longer fit for the fight. Expected replacements on the third line are both Sons of the Earth; Mancole Kaleb of Ba Sing Se, and Bar’cay Godorow of Itakawai… which has led many to wonder if the third line is going to be full of Itakawai players.

Offensively, the third line is filled with strong passers and even stronger shooters. Both Relicyc Tho-An and Souma Shichiro have done amazingly well in skills competitions involving accuracy and shot speeds; both players are younger and wanting to make a name for themselves. However, what is unique on the third line is the arrival of Kil’or Alecyc, an impressive power forward who saw his name behind many a goals in both previous tournaments as well as strong postseason play for the Lightning. Given the emphasis that Coach Ishii has put on slotting Badgermole players into prime spots the last two campaigns, someone like Kil’or – a second-line Lightning player who has been with the team since their return – was bound to find himself in the lower lines. However, ever the professional, Kil’or has enjoyed playing with Relicyc, a teammate and good friend of his in Itakawai, and the two of them have been working with Souma to fully connect the offense on the third line… Do not be surprised if you start seeing goals being made from this far back in the depth charth.
