Based on my rummaging through the focus tree it seems literally impossible to get rid of all the negatives that occur as a result of the great purges unless you go to war with a major nation first. Some of them are locked behind that requirement so they seem intent on trying to force the player to relive the earlier struggles of the soviet military during the opening year of the war irl.

Similar thing but in reverse happens with their industrial tree, its open as long as you have the required factories then is locked permanently if you go to war with a major nation.

TIs fun, you get a lot of stuff you can mess around with but ive not put serious time into it yet.

It doesnt require any where near as much xp as the ship designer does so its not as restrictive.

Okay so my realm split into two between Brittany and England. I intend on fixing that problem but i haven't figured out what exactly I want to do to get my lands back. Someone else did suggest murder, though.

If you're England, an invasion would probably be quicker. Murder is more cost-effective though, since it won't leave a claimant.

from what i've seen in the videos (coug tommykay) i've watched it seems to be very similar to stellaris: a defined (and emerging) meta that after you get all the parts isn't really necessary to update aside from clicking auto-update

current meta seems to be howitzers, 3 man turrets, cannons, and around 85% reliability (stack the excess into engine and armor)

Your USSR probably did some things differently than i did. I had a civil war and took out stalin for instance.

Well, I know for one they had 400+ divisions and 100 factories in 1941. Dunno if that's standard or not.

I probably had about half that number of divisions honestly. My mistake was not producing certain equipment earlier like AA so i had to wait on my stockpile catching up. I had a decent bit more factories though.

I got Bukharin in charge via a bloodless coup but i wasnt able to do it prior to the military purge so unfortunately i lost Tukhachevsky and a few others but managed to retain the vast majority of soviet generals and the entire army. So a success but if i had been a bit quicker i might have avoided losing him as the purge event happened literally 1 day before my assassination of Stalin.

All of a sudden I realize just how utterly called out I am as I create a new empire in Stellaris that I have no intention of actually playing.

All I wanted to do was play a chill game with a reasonably normal empire in order to acquaint myself with all of the changes that have happened in the past year, and instead here I am creating complicated builds out of the new stuff because I apparently literally cannot stop myself.

I've been having a blast with NSB, creating a 30w medium tank templated with 1200 breakthrough as GDC and causing Germany and their Vichy pets to eat anarchist boot was a great deal of fun. The dopamine hit of encircling 7 divisions THRICE will last me a week.

I dont think ive ever asked this before but is there an optimal airwing size for HOI4? I usually just kept my air wings in either groups of 100 or 200.
