The World

In 1908, the first of the Silent appeared in NYC. A masked man, robbed a bank for thousands of dollars while bullets flew past him. He had the power of luck, granted to him by the mask he wears. It was a marvel that shocked the world. And when the second of the Silent appeared, he displayed the strength to toss a Ford Model T through the air with ease. As if he were throwing a football. And now, in the year 1956, the world is filled with The Silent. People that all can wield a great power, so long as they wear their mask. They exist among the population. Some hide their status to the world. Others flaunt it proudly. They are in the world's militaries, and even in some governments. And every nation is treating them differently. In America crime, bolstered by Silents rises across the nation, rises by the day. The Federal Bureau of Silent Suppression tries to keep them in check. In the United Kingdom, the nation has required registration of all of the Silents with the threat of life imprisonment. In Soviet Russia, the Silent are revered, largely as war heroes. But, all Silent are forced into military service. The world is dark. With riots for equal treatment for the Silent on the horizon, jealousy of their power from the general population, and the threat of war building on every theater across the world, the goal of this RP is to ask one simple question. Who do you choose to be?

The Premise

You as a player in this RP will be able to create a person, living in Chicago in the year 1956. You can create a member of the Silent, and develop a unique power for your mask to grant you. Or you can portray a regular human and delve into the concept of living in a world with powered individuals. Or you could be a member of the FBSS, the Federal Bureau of Silent Suppression, and hunt down law breaking Silents throughout the city. Or you can be a harrowed detective, trying to find the truth about the murder of a member of the Silent. And any combination of them all is possible. Underneath this all will be an adjoining thread, a grave threat and the origin of the masks. Will you be a hero and fight for truth and justice? Or will you be a villain, out for their own gain? The choice is yours.

The history

In the year 1908, the first of "The Silent" appeared in New York City. A man with a painted white ivory mask walked into a bank, and without speaking a word single handedly took down three armed security guards and stole over one hundred thousand dollars. Equivalent to over three million USD today. The fired bullet after bullet at him, but none of them had any effect. It was as if they passed right around him, with a mind of their own. It was a full year before another of the Silent appeared in Tampa Bay Florida. At first people thought it was the same masked man, but when this man displayed feats of strength well beyond what the first could accomplish, including throwing a ford model T twenty meters with one hand, they knew it was something different. By the year 1915, as the world was embroiled in the first world war, the name "The Silent", for the many masked and powered individuals became widespread throughout most of the known world. It is said that the assassin of Franz Ferdinand was one of the Silent. Prohibition of the early 1920s in America led to organized crime being wide spread in the growing nation. Gangs utilized the Silent to their advantage. It was during this time that the first demasking occurred. And some of the truth of the silent was revealed to the world. The Silent are men and women, that when they wear their mask, trade away their ability to speak, for grandiose powers of seemingly magical origins.

Two major events changed the course of the 20th century. The second world war, was the first war to feature Silent Soldiers. Adolf Hitler applying them as part of the Nazi party's SS division. America and Russia were the only other two nations that were capable of creating similar forces. The soviet uprising actually being bolstered by Silent revolutionaries. The Pacific front was ended when an American team of 500 of the Silent, including the widely known Ruth Hawthorne, were deployed in Tokyo. The city was destroyed within hours. And when a Soviet Russian deployment of 1700 of the Silent wiped through the Manchurian front, the feeling of being pinned by forces well beyond them caused a swift Japanese surrender. The second event was the battle of Chicago which occurred in 1949. Where the largest families of organized crime clashed in the mafia run city. Causing untold damage and the "Second Great Chicago Fire". It caused the formation of a federal peace keeping agency, using Silent police to fight Silent criminals, known as the Federal Bureau of Silent Suppression or FBSS. Most other nations quickly followed suit in adding the Silent to their police forces and militaries over time. The United Kingdom, instituted their Silent Registry in the year 1948. In 1949, The Korean civil war broke out. The north, lead by an anarchist silent, nearly conquered the democratic south. Were it not for American intervention, the south would not exist today. This war also marks the first use of Silents by China. The Korean civil war came to a grinding conclusion in 1952. The soviets, had an armistice with the Americans and chose not to participate in the war. America's superior trained Silents dominated the Chinese and Korean Silents. the Korean Peninsula remains a unified democratic nation to this day.

Now we sit in an uneasy world. Chicago is run by crime. World powers are closing in on a third world war. And inequality is rampant for people of every kin. The world is a powder keg, and a lit match could be around any corner.

The Rules

1. No meta gaming or godmodding. This one is obvious.
2. OP's word is law. I'm an open guy and like people to have their freedom but you gotta respect that if I say no it means no.
3. Respect other players both in the forum and on discord. Needless insults will get you kicked.
4. PVP elements must be agreed upon by both parties, and will be decided by a combination of stats and dice rolls performed by OP.
5. All powers have drawbacks. No one just gets free strength. The stronger your power, the stronger the limitation you need to provide with it
6. Sadly, there are some banned powers, done so for the sake of making an interesting story/world that won't be exploited. This list is not exhaustive and can be added to at any time. Mind Control, control of subatomic particles, Time travel, omniscience.

Character history: Born in Brooklyn in 1930, Carter Knight, born Peter Pierson, lost his parents to tuberculosis when he was only 3 years old. Raised in an orphanage until the age of 17, he was treated brutally by the nuns who cared for him and his fellow orphans. On the day after his 17th birthday, he left the orphanage to set out on his own. He bounced around job after job, never managing to stay at one place for long. By the age of 20, he had begun to grow disillusioned with industrial society. Between the oppressive feeling of modern life, and the constant concern of ones safety against organized crime and Silents in the big cities, he grew to hate society. Especially in larger groupings. He began drifting, saving every penny he could earn until he finally bought a small property in northern Montana. Here he built a cabin and began to live a peaceful homesteading life. He changed his name to Carter Knight, and left his old life behind him.

At age 23, he found his mask. It was inside the carcass of a deer he had hunted for food. He did not care for Silents. But his curiosity drove him to put the mask on. Although, he felt nothing. No power, no rush, now direction. None of the things many other Silents describe feeling came to him. And so he decided to try and ignore the mask. Until, one day only a month later, a Silent attempted to break into his home. He came in the middle of the night, screaming about needing a place to hide out from the FBSS. Carter refused, but the Silent relented. He kicked down Carter's front door, giving Carter no choice by to unload three rounds of buck shot into the Silent's chest. He was not wearing his mask, so the bullets flew through him like a hot knife through butter. When Carter looked at the body, the masked laid on the ground beside it. Carter suddenly felt the rush. He felt his mask call to him. He put it on and the truth of the masks were revealed to him. He picked up the other Silent's mask from the ground, and in moments it disappeared. Carter had taken this masks ability, and now knew what his Silent power truly was.

It has been three years since that day and Carter has left his homesteading life behind. The truth of the masks, and what Silents are haunts him. And it drives him towards his new goals. He was last known to be headed to Chicago, planning something substantial.

Personal goals: Destruction of Industrial society, reveal the true nature of the masks and Silents.
Silent Power (if applicable): Assimilation. Can absorb the masks of others after they die. Has assimilated five abilities to this date;
Seismic pulse: Can release pulses of seismic energy from his limbs, into anything he touches directly.
Gravity Disruption: Can increase or decrease the effect of gravity within a 5 meter range around his body.
Incorporeal: Can make his body difficult to see with the naked eye and intangible briefly. Shown to only allow non biological matter to pass through him.
Iron lungs: Can resist the need to breath, holding breath for over three hours at maximum with no negative side effects.
Transmutation: Can alter the structure of non biological material in limited quantities.

Limitation/drawback: All drawbacks of his assimilated abilities, as well as suffering from dissociative identity disorder caused by the remnants of humanity stored within the powers he assimilates.

Durability (how hard you can get hit without taking significant damage): 15
Intelligence (how well you use your power): 25
Silent Power Strength (raw power level of the silent ability): 20
Telepathy (how well you can communicate with other silents): 20
Resolve (How hard is it to keep you down): 15

What's the history behind these masks? Are they ancient artefacts one can dig up, are they found, are they created? Thinking of various characters, like an archeologist, but knowing that would make it easier.
The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.

The history of where they come from is one of the central mysteries of the story! The answer will be revealed through the course of events. as for where the Silent get their own mask, each individual finds them in a somewhat unique place. you could find in it your drawer one day. Or on your kitchen counter.

This is definitely an interesting idea, and I'd like to participate, but I'm a bit out of practice. I'll probably get back into the groove relatively soon, but I don't want to be an inconvenience to the RP in the meantime, so
If I'd be a nuisance, feel free to say so

Character history:
Born in 1921, Francis McArthur was the son of dairy farmers Jonathan and Mona McArthur of Clairesholm, Alberta. Living in a time of unprecedented prosperity, Frank’s parents would do their best to modernize their farm with new equipment, techniques, and crop breeds, all paid for by what appeared to be clever investments in the stock market. A curious boy, Frank was known as a good student but something of a rabble rouser, as his questions towards authority figures often fired up his fellow students. Frank idolized his father, and learned many skills from the older man including; hunting, tracking, cartography and drawing.

Personal tragedy struck on August 27th, 1928 when a tornado touched down in Clairesholm. Frank and his mother Mona managed to take shelter in the cellar but Jonathan was lost to the winds while trying to secure the cattle barn. Much of the farm was destroyed, as was the house. Miraculously, Jonathan’s bed survived the storm, and sitting upon the pillow was a dangerous looking mask with strange runes and flowing designs on the surface of its dark face. Turning it about, Frank found his name carved upon the inside of the mask. Having grown up on tales of Silents, Frank placed the mask on his face. Disappointed that nothing seemed to be happening, the young boy looked at his mother and tried to express his disappointment but found that he could speak no words. It was a Silent mask, but what did it do? It was then that the remainder of the storm made itself known and lightning came crashing down from the sky, striking the boy. Rather than feeling pain, he was filled with a raw rush of power. However it was too much for such a young boy to manage, and Frank fell unconscious.

The boy was rushed to a hospital in nearby Calgary where he remained in a coma for the better part of three days. It was only upon awakening that the boy was able to remove his mask, the doctors being unable to do so for him. With their home and livelihood destroyed, the remaining McArthurs found themselves selling their stocks to rebuild. Their new farm was humbler than the last, but after a year, Mona had remarried to one Thomas Pearson, a brewer who happily took over the farm and played the role of step father to Francis. The family struggled through the Great Depression but ultimately managed to get by, and though Frank could never call Thomas father, the older man had instilled a sense of civic pride upon his stepson. Bringing the family closer together was the birth of a daughter- Miriam Pearson. Half brother and sister were known to be very close, Frank playing the dutifully protective brother and Miriam his energetic charge.

Things changed again as War waged around the globe. Francis felt that he had a duty to serve his country, and so when the call came out for young Canadian men with frontier backgrounds to join a special unit, the young man never hesitated. He had seldom used his Mask at home, save under Thomas’ careful watch. He had learned more of the drawbacks of his powers than the uses but things swiftly changed when young Francis found himself recruited into the First Special Services Force. An elite unit of mixed Canadian and American soldiery, the Force trained young men to war in ways that had never been attempted before. Parachute training, mountaineering, advanced shock tactics, assymetrical warfare, and integration with squads of military trained Silent. Selected for his aptitude, Frank found himself commissioned as a platoon leader and saw his powers grow with use and experimentation. It wasn’t long before the young Canuck would earn the code name Blue Bolt.

Francis would go on to serve with the Force in the Italian Alps, being key to their victory at the fortified mountain strongpoint La Difensa. His display of power that day was said to have set fire to the entire mountain and shattered the Axis lines, giving the allied assault force access to Anzio and from there; Rome. After victory in Italy was assured the Force then pushed through the mountains into southern France before the reinstallment of the French Republic. Soon after came the invasion of Japan. Though instrumental in the sack of Tokyo and hailed as something of a Hero, Francis retired from active duty soon afterwards. He returned to Claireholm a changed man; never once speaking of his service overseas and certainly never wearing his Mask again.

Recently, Frank has been seen in Chicago, apparently in the employ of the Chicago Outfit as an enforcer. Though what purpose he pursues there appears to be unknown.

Personal goals: Support his family, serve his country.
Silent Power (if applicable):

Advanced Electrokinesis: Francis can manipulate electrical currents in his body to produce bolts of bioelectricity. In addition to his own body’s power, he can pull energy from electrical grids and store it for later use, allowing him to increase the output of his bolts. In addition, Frank’s powers seem to afford him the ability to manipulate the lightning’s form into concussive blasts of electromagnetism, balls of ionized plasma that erupt into small explosions, channeling the power into his punches and kicks, using rail and electrical lines to travel at incredible speeds via induction grinding, the creation of ion thrusters to slow falls, absorbing the bio electricity of others, and calling down lightning from the sky.

Enhanced Durability: Though not to the extent of other silent, Francis has enhanced post-human physiology while wearing his mask. Though not bulletproof by any stretch of the imagination, he is incredibly hard to put down by human standards.

Telepathy: Frank’s Telepathy seems underdeveloped compared to the average silent. Words are difficult for him to project at a distance farther than thirty feet, preferring to use the images of his vivid imagination to get a clear point across at any sort of distance instead. Still, modern radio technology has much faster range and is more reliable.

Devil’s Brigade Training: In addition to being a silent, Francis is a former member of the First Special Service Force. As such he has been well trained in hand to hand combat, survival drill, and is adept with most firearms. Even while not wearing his mask, Frank McArthur is to be taken seriously.

Limitation/drawback: Frank can only use his powers if he has stored electricity in his body. Without electricity, Frank is almost lethargic and weak. In addition, Frank cannot ride in vehicles or utilize firearms while wearing his mask as the combustible elements used by either will react with his powers and explode violently. Finally, water discharges his stored energy. Rain on his clothes will cause only the same sort of outburst as a static shock, while standing in a puddle with someone will shock them violently. Being in water past his waist will cause such a violent discharge that it’s theorized it will kill Frank. It can take several days of not wearing his mask for these energies to safely bleed away and for these weaknesses to no longer be apparent.

Character history: Born in 1904, Nolan is part of a special generation in American history: too young to serve in World War 1, but already 36 by the time World War II rolls around, and too old to serve there. Instead, Nolan's baptism of fire was the prohibition era. England was born in West Virginia to a coal mining father and a devoutly evangelical mother. Nolan was raised in the church and with respect for the American way. His father was called upon for duty during the Great War but was never shipped overseas, the war having ended before that could happen. His household was particularly patriotic because of all this, and it was Nolan's dream to become a sheriff someday, like in the old westerns.

The breakthrough happened after the Battle of Blair Mountain, strangely enough. His family was firmly on the side of the governor, and both Nolan and his father were deputised. They never actually saw any combat, again, but this gave Nolan a foot in the door with the sheriff's office. First he was running local errands, and then did more part-time work as a deputy, besides helping his mother care for all his younger siblings. He also married at quite a young age, as was normal in the time and in such a devout family. Then, the era of prohibition began, and for the first time since Blair Mountain, the feds got interested in West Virginia. Moonshining was a thriving industry, and a constant and deadly was was waged between moonshiners and the federal government. At the end of the 20s, Nolan was taken on by the Federal Prohibition Agency as a field agent, after many years of directly working together with them as a deputy, and at the personal reccomendation of the retiring field agent he was replacing.

This would eventually make Nolan England a specialist in the field of organised crime prevention. This is what got Nolan transported to Chicago in the fight against organised crime there. It was a mere accident that finally landed him on the path to becoming an FBSS agent: his experience hunting in West Virginia. A notice was put out on one particular gangster, Carl Rosenberg, who used the power of a mask to assault and evade law enforcement. His escapades had already led to the death of two officers, and Nolan decided that enough was enough. Using the bait of a lucrative deal and a high-powered hunting rifle, Carl Rosenberg was fatally shot while trying to escape. Ending the reign of a cop killer, and the police slowly getting the situation in Chicago under control, was what eventually got him thrown over the fence to the FBSS.

During and shortly after the Second World War, the FBSS was taken over by the Department of Defence. England did some desk work for the war effort, much to his chagrin. He liked down his work for the good of the country, but he would much rather be a field agent. After the war he spent some time in Germany going through their files and learning about the way Germany handled Silents. All this he saw as wasted time, though, and as soon as he finished aiding in the trials at Nuremburg, he returned to Chicago to do field work, focussing on Silents again. In the ten years since returning to Germany, he has become somewhat of a national expert in the field, but despite many offers of jobs higher up in the food chain, England has carved himself a particular niche he is nog fond of letting go.

It was upon returning from Germany, and opening his suitcase, that he found his mask, tucked away under his dirty laundry.
Personal goals: Securing America against those with Silent powers, but doing so in a merciful way that allows those with powers to repent.
Silent Power: Mind reading
Limitation/drawback: The power requires someone to look into the eyes of the mask. The more surface-level thoughts get read first, and the longer it goes on, the more information is pulled out. It is painful both for the subject and the Silent. Also, the longer the power is used, and the more information is gained, the more character traits the Silent will take over from the subject.

For Silent Characters only

Power levels, divide 25 points among these five attributes. The human baseline for each of the attributes is a 1, for an example, a 5 is the minimum durability for your Silent to be bulletproof. At ten points they can take tank shells with ease.

Durability: 3
Intelligence: 2
Silent Power Strength: 15
Telepathy: 2
Resolve: 3

Please note, as discussed with the OP this character is unique for the purpose of the story and for that reason goes well above the allowed point use.

Name: Ruth Hawthorne
Age: 32
Nation of birth: United States
Silent? (yes or no): Yes
Occupation:
Moral Alignment: Grey, but still tries to be a good person overall
Height: 6 foot, 6 inches
Weight: Around 250 pounds
Appearance (img in spoiler pls):

Character history: Born in 1924 in the southern US state of Georgia to impoverished parents who nevertheless got by, Ruth knew oppression and hatred from a young age, being African-American in the American south, learning that some people would hate her for something as simple as the color of her skin, but her parents taught her to not judge people as they judged her. Her father was a veteran of the Great War, having joined the US Army but having fought beside the French due to the segregated nature of the US military.

Still, her family and community made due, though in her young teenage years Ruth one day noticed a Mask in her dresser. Knowing what it meant, Ruth took it and put it on. She found that the Mask granted her incredible strength and endurance, though she was very careful to conceal her mask from both her family and community, however she was eventually found out...by her older sister no less, herself a Silent. Her sister took her under her wing a little, even though it was clear that Ruth herself was far stronger then her sister, who held the powers of fire with her mask. Together they defended their community from the worse elements of the American segregationist South.

Things changed with the US entry into the Second World War in late 1941. Her father, a veteran of the First World War, volunteered in the US Army. Inspired by her father, and realizing that she had the potential to make a difference, Ruth also volunteered, exposing herself as a Silent. After some initial tests of her abilities, Ruth was sent to a special Silent training unit, to undergo further testing and training. Wanting to make a show of the new Silent fighting force, the Army deployed Ruth and a small number of Silent to North Africa for Operation Torch.

Ruth's first action was against the Vichy French forces, using her immense powers to break through into Casablanca even under the immense firepower of the French battleship Jean Bart pinned down most other units from advancing. Using her strength, Ruth punched through to the docks and destroyed the battleship, allowing Allied units to move in and fully capture the city, which surrendered soon after the first US infantry companies entered the city. With the incredible feat of destroying a battleship, Ruth very quickly made a name for herself. She would continue to serve in North Africa, blunting several German and Italian attacks.

Ruth then served in Operation Husky, fighting throughout Sicily and then Italy, where she served beside the Devils Brigade and their Silent as well, striking a sense of camaraderie with the Silent within the Brigade. Ruth was essential in forcing breeches in several German defense lines in Italy, but as the fighting started to get bogged down as resources were shifted to prepare for Operation Overlord, and with Winston Churchill being rabidly adamant about no Silent participation in Normandy, Ruth was instead sent back to the states.

Once back in the States Ruth was given time to rest and well as being used on War Bond tours. After a few months, she was then sent to the Pacific theater to be used in the island hopping campaign, as well as undertaking several operations, such as Operation Cement Shoes, the invasion of Iwo Jima where she was pictured helping raise the American flag on Mount Suribachi, and eventually the attack on Tokyo.

After the war Ruth returned home, but the grace period and jubilation of victory was short lived for African-American veterans, especially back home in Georgia. Even still, at the very least Ruth was able to attain some level of money and help her family and community out, buying large swaths of land. Life would continue mostly normally, though Ruth would find herself employed by the US Government on several occasions.

With the outbreak of the Korean War, Ruth was asked to once again serve her country, being a symbol of American victory. It was thanks to President Truman's desegregation of the Armed Forces and the hope that she could make such efforts for her people once again that convinced her to join once again. Like the last war, Ruth was an instrumental piece of the UN forces, and throughout the bloody conflict she racked up a bloody toll on the North Korean, and then Chinese, forces, eventually earning the title as ‘The Woman who Won the Korean War’.

Once again after the war Ruth returned home, but once again was disappointed at how she and other black veterans were treated, and this has made her fairly cynical, and while she still does government work here and there she has started having problems dealing with her anger.

Personal goals: End second class citizenship in the US
Silent Power (if applicable): Super strength and endurance
limitation/drawback: Can have a problem reigning in her anger and rage at times, is overconfident
Power levels
Durability (how hard you can get hit without taking significant damage): 20
Intelligence (how well you use your power): 5
Silent Power Strength (raw power level of the silent ability): 20
Telepathy (how well you can communicate with other silents): 10
Resolve (How hard is it to keep you down): 20

Tag. I'm a little stressed this week with all the family around and me not being able to get on NS much at all. But I can think of a character. Maybe just a normal.
The Clockwork Circus - Welcome to a steampunk RP rife with crime, gangs, beggars, and starting off as the lowest of the low, in the lowest socio-economic place there is.

Silent Character App
Name: Lilac/Rozalin Harkner
Age: 30 (Born September 1st, 1926.)
Nation of birth: United Kingdom
Silent? (yes or no): Yes
Occupation: Nurse/Cabaret Performer/Jazz Singer
Moral Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 170 lbs
Appearance (img in spoiler pls):

Character history:
Rozalin is a girl’s name. At least, that is what most people would think. Florence Harkner, a wannabe silent actress and one-time courtier of King George V, gave birth to a child she had hoped would be the successful actress she had not been. When the child was born a boy, Florence was disappointed, and thus appointed the child with a feminine name-one with a “cheeky” twist-which would satisfy her desire to have a daughter.

Rozalin grew-up in Cambridge in the United Kingdom, and his mother raised him to believe very specific and controlled ideas about femininity and masculinity. “Ladies” and “gentlemen” learned proper etiquette, practiced excellent posture, wore the finest clothing, and interacted only with the “proper” people. In Florence’s mind, these people were not necessarily upstanding, but those wealthy and powerful few who could give her the fame and fortune she dreamed of having. Yet despite her assurances that all of these connections and rules would give them both a better life, Rozalin was miserable. While he loved the fashion and beauty of these nobles and socialites, he hated their vapid and disinterested view of the world.

Even with his internal struggle against his mother’s browbeating and strict expectations, however, Rozalin’s tall, skinny, almost-feminine frame caused for them to be mostly friendless in school, and thus he was emotionally dependent on her. As World War II dawned on Rozalin’s 13th birthday, however, the family had even bigger concerns. Florence Harkner had turned to alcohol by this point in her life, and so Rozalin worked illegally in a textile factory, and then received training as a nurse, to make money for his mother and himself. During those gruesome six years, he found himself escaping to daydreams of wearing beautiful clothing, particularly the clothing of pinup stars such as Marlene Dietrich, Betty Grable, and Ginger Rogers. Such stars represented the power he wanted over his body and image, which he had hated as a teenager.

As the world emerged from a horrific war, and Rozalin from his teen years, his own vision yawned awake from the horrors of war to a vision of a new life. Still needing to support his mother, he took a day job as a nurse in a hospital in Cambridge. By night, however, he became something completely different-a burlesque performer. Inspired by the pinup posters which were omnipresent in World War 2, and also by the various charms of figures such as Mata Hari, Madame de Pompadour, and Josephine Baker, he had put aside hard-earned money for fashion, makeup, and products for his act. However, he refused to be the “lady” his mother, who was now obese and ailing, wanted him to be. As he began performing in cabarets and jazz clubs-anywhere that would take him-he was determined to woo and frighten his audience with the personality he had discovered for himself.

In 1949, his mother died of liver failure. Rozalin, who had missed a performance to sit with her during her last hours, found himself grieving the figure who had both emotionally imprisoned him and had raised him through the Great Depression. Even with his building persona as a beautifully androgynous performer, he had still been slow to make friends, and thus the only stalwart in his life was gone. The day of her funeral, however, as Rozalin gathered her belongings, he found an item which would define a new path in his life: a strange mask.

The mask was beautiful, and radiated with a seductive power that lured him to wear it. It matched his costumes and gave him a mysterious charm, and so he began to wear it during performances. When he saw that the audience was mesmerized by his ability to represent their most beautiful and frightening inner dreams, he decided that this power was one to keep. Indeed, he became a “Silent” actor, and as his nightly career advanced, he took a performing name which would place a barrier between his conventional daytime life and the alluring, chaotic nightlife he had come to adore-Lilac.

With this new life, however, came new challenges. As his fame and notoriety as Lilac increased, the Silent Division of the FBSS gained a notice of him. They became especially interested when one of their own agents was found to be dating him in secret. The young man had been lured by Rozalin’s shy nature and Lilac’s glamorous performances, and Rozalin-who had spent most of his life lonely-had been glad to oblige. Eventually, after the agent discovered that Rozalin was in fact a man, said agent sent files on the man’s personal life to the Silent Division.

This betrayal nearly broke Lilac, who used his powers as a Silent as a true weapon for the first time. A colleague of the agent reported to the Silent Division that during the night, Lilac cornered his traitor in an alley and took the form of a nightmare, one that was so horrific it left them almost catatonic. No murder occurred, but the agent could no longer perform his duties. In the meantime, Lilac felt his inner armor beginning to crack. He was still hungry for love-and intensely hateful of the agents who had tried to destroy him.

Personal goals: Lilac’s goal is to advance his career, to find love, and to defend himself against the Silent Division of the FBSS.
(EDIT: The character now goes by “she”.)

Silent Power (if applicable):
Echoes of Grandeur - Lilac can use enhanced telepathy for the purpose of singing or speaking while wearing the mask. This allows his vocal performance to be “heard” by those in attendance.

What The Heart Wants - While singing or speaking, Lilac can change his form to represent what is most beautiful to a target. The target can be a crowd, or any one person who can hear him within 120 feet.

Belladonna’s Revenge - Alternately, should the person be an enemy, Lilac can wear the mask to take the form of the target’s worst nightmare. Should the target maintain eye contact with this nightmare for more than 5 minutes, they will risk permanent insanity.

The Lady is a Tramp - Lilac has increased durability and strength while wearing the mask, and can resist damage from fire or physical touch while unarmored. Alternately, his punches become twice as effective.

Limitation/drawback: Lilac cannot use his first two abilities if he is somehow rendered incapable of communication through speech or song. The Lady is a Tramp does not work against sharp objects, lightning, or poisons injected into the body with a needle.

For Silent Characters only

Power levels, divide 25 points among these five attributes. The human baseline for each of the attributes is a 1, for an example, a 5 is the minimum durability for your Silent to be bulletproof. At ten points they can take tank shells with ease.
Durability: 5
Intelligence: 4
Silent Power Strength: 7
Telepathy: 4
Resolve: 5

Character history: Born in Shanghai, China, during the chaotic Chinese civil war, and at that time, the county was divided between different warlords. His father was a doctor, while his mother was a nurse that worked at a local hospital. Growing up Zeng, his home was spared from most of the fighting but would hear about it constantly, and his family feared what could happen if the conflict reached Shanghai. Either way, they lived the best they could, and after the Kuomintang managed to unify most of the Republic of China. They believed that peace would soon come to the country, and they could live without fear of war. That peace would briefly fail during the January 28 incident in 1932, and it was the first time that Zeng saw fighting. It lasted three months before a truce was signed between China and Japan, and the fighting stopped. It was a traumatizing experience for the young Zeng, and his parents hoped that this would be the last conflict for them.

That changed by the time Zeng was eleven. Tensions between China and Japan reached a boiling point that when the Marco Polo Bridge Incident happened. Japan declared war, and Zeng's father was conscripted into the army as a medic. That was the last time Zeng would see his father. Soon after, Shanghai was being invaded by the Japanese, and Zeng and his mother fled into the interior and would end up in Wuhan. But, they only stayed a year before having to flee again when the Japanese attacked and conquered the city. This time ended up in Changsha, where they would stay, and his mother would end up as a nurse at the local hospital. Leaving Zeng mainly on his own while his mother worked, and so he was forced to adapt.

By the time he was eighteen, Changsha had endured two more attacks by the Japanese, and it was after the third attack did Zeng enlist in the Chinese army. Seeing action in the war but, it was after the 4th battle for Changsha did he learn that his mother was killed during the fighting. He was devastated by the news and chose to direct his anger towards the Japanese, which the war would end a year later in 1945 and while the rest of the world rejoiced. The war was not the end for him, for the Chinese Civil War did not end, and hostilities would resume. Zeng would stay loyal to the Kuomintang and fight on their side. Being suspicious of the communists and after three years of losing to the communists. Zeng was among those during the Kuomintang's retreat to Taiwan, and it was expected to be a temporary retreat.

Only it was not, and Zeng found himself stuck in Taiwan with little chance of going home to Shanghai with wanting not to live under a communist regime. While thinking of what to do to seeing how the stay might be permanent for a soldier like him. Zeng unexpectedly found himself a victim of the White Terror, where the government suppressed political dissidents and anyone considered a communist spy. He does not know what he did that made him a target but, in 1952. Zeng was captured by government agents, and for a week, he was interrogated and tortured for information about his communist activities. After being released, Zeng thought long a hard about things. About why he follows the Kuomintang despite their failings, never seeing home again, and war that helped to define most of his life. So Zeng chose to leave the military and Taiwan behind. Moving to the United States, where he bounced around, taking odd jobs before ending up in Chicago and found work as a security guard at a local port. However, he thinks of getting a new job.

Which his first day in his new apartment, did he find his mask on his bed. Zeng was shocked and fearful of what could happen if someone discovered he is a Silent. So he rarely uses his mask and just tries to live a normal life in his new home.

Personal goals: Keep a low profile, living a normal life.
Silent Power (if applicable): Telekinesis
Limitation/drawback: Can only affect objects within ten feet of him, can't catch objects moving too fast like bullets, means to be focused in order to use it, Zeng loses his focus then his telekinesis fails.

Hey there! If y'all don't mind a less combative character, here's mine.

Name: Ruth Morgan
Age: 24
Nation of birth: January 7, 1931
Silent?: Yes
Occupation: Information Broker
Moral Alignment: Neutral Evil
Height: 4'11"
Weight: 76 lbs
Appearance:

Character history:
Born during the middle of the Great Depression, Ruth Morgan (or Rue as she prefers) was the youngest of the four Morgan children born to a farming family in a village from the outskirts of Illinois. Two of her siblings have struck out into the city, where she never heard from them again. Whether they struck gold and never returned (which she does not blame them for doing so) or died in vain for pursuing gold and financial stability, she has no need to know.

Tragedy struck as famine broke, as it so easily during that time, and her parents had no other choice but to abandon Rue and her older brother when she was but nine. Both were separated and then abandoned deep in the woods, thrown into the jaws of Mother Nature without anything to fend for themselves. For days she spent trying to find food and water, suffering food poisoning and barely living through trial and error. Perhaps by stroke of luck she befriended a murder of crows, which have been swarming around a deer's corpse, through repeated encounter and offering of what nuts and fruits she had on her. The flock soon brought her bits and bobbles, and sometimes even shared their food with her. In this feral solidarity she gained avian friends, until winter struck for that year of isolation.

Rue never really ventured out of the woods. It gave more food than whatever farmhouse she could find within miles of rural Illinois, and she would be turned away by similarly starving families with more than enough mouths to feed. But this winter is too harsh, and she'd do anything to survive. Hungry, feverish from the cold and thirst, she trudged through snow and ice and found light. The crows flying up ahead cawed at her, some even landing on her to persevere. She, and the birds, needed whatever that house has to survive.

Taking the axe that has been left outside for chopping firewood to keep themselves warm, she strode in hungry and shivering. She needs food. These people are too greedy to share. She needs to feed herself and her flock, no matter what it takes. There is strength in desperation, within a small body that have been deprived of food and only hung by the thread. Adrenaline high and driven mad by hunger, that house was silenced by a little girl who was barely 11. Rue didn't remember that much, except by morning when it all came to light. It was the house of her parents that she attacked, both also barely surviving through the dead of winter. Their corpses were tended by her crow friends and one of them, the biggest of the flock, brought her an oddly shaped mask. Her future was sealed when she put it on.

The next thirteen years of her life were spent in the desperate attempt to survive, honing her skills and her power over animals for her own gain. By some stroke of luck she managed to leave the countryside and come to Chicago, where she fought for her own scraps... and where she found her calling. Information is a vital resource and many would pay for secrets. Her friends can hear a lot, see a lot, and she is willing to hand over information or scour for that information for a price. Whether they be Silent, FBSS, or just the common man, Rue's services are open for the highest bidder.
Personal goals: Money and self preservation. Rue will take jobs from those who pay her the highest bid, and would abandon everything for the sake of her own survival.

Silent Power:
  • Queenly Majesty: Rue has the power to command and enthrall the minds and wills of social animals. This includes flocking birds to herds of cattle to colonies of mice. This domination is absolute, and could only be dispelled by the listed limitations below or by Rue herself. However, she prefers to command and take hold of ravens and crows for the sake of keeping an image, for the utility of wings, as well as hiding the scope of her power.
  • Eyes and Ears: Rue could transfer her senses into her flocks, implanting her full will upon a leading member called the Matriarch of that specific group. Through the Matriarch she is able to control and supplant it's senses, as well as look through and jump between members of the flock. The effective range of Eyes and Ears, and by extension maintaining Queenly Majesty, is five miles.
  • Ablaze in Glory: Rue could command her charmed subjects to sacrifice themselves for their enchantress, detonating with the force equal to their body mass.
  • A Thousand Wings: Rue could transform herself into a swarm of animals that she chooses. This swarm has five Matriarchs, and each Matriarch has ten members under their wing. Each Matriarch represents her organs (brain, heart, stomach, intestines, lungs) and the rest are random parts of her body.
Limitation/drawback:
  • Queenly Majesty: Rue could only subjugate animals that are social in nature, and tests on humans have been found inconclusive. Rue must be able to see the group to be able to tame it, and to be able to create a Matriarch. The Matriarch is marked as the biggest and most dominant female member of the group, and would have a white coloring around its eyes that resembles a masquerade mask. All captivated flocks and their Matriarchs cannot leave within a five mile radius from Rue. Killing a Matriarch disbands its flock.
  • Eyes and Ears: Rue is completely incapacitated during the duration of Eyes and Ears. Her body is completely vulnerable as her senses are transfered to the Matriarch and her flock. Queenly Majesty's taming sight cannot be used through the duration of and extended eyesight granted by Eyes and Ears. This ability has a limit of a five mile radius.
  • Ablaze in Glory: The blast radius of this ability has a limit of five meters, with the variable blast radius depending on the body size of the charmed animal. Matriarchs are not able to used for this ability and must use their kin as sacrifice.
  • A Thousand Wings: Damage to any member of the Thousand Wings will in turn become apparent once she reforms. Damage during this state can and will be fatal, especially when one of the Matriarchs are killed.
  • In general: All of Rue's abilities rely on captivated animals. There can only be three subjugated Matriarchs and flocks as of the moment. They have no innate durability as most Silents do, and with the exception of Ablaze in Glory has no other extraordinary offenses. Killing a Matriarch will immediately disban a flock. Rue herself is not blessed with any supernatural defenses nor immunities.
For Silent Characters only

Power levels, divide 25 points among these five attributes. The human baseline for each of the attributes is a 1, for an example, a 5 is the minimum durability for your Silent to be bulletproof. At ten points they can take tank shells with ease.
Durability: 1
Intelligence: 5
Silent Power Strength: 15
Telepathy: 3
Resolve: 1

Character history: The man known to many as John Smith was born in Leningrad by the name of Vyacheslav Valerion Vasylevich. His parents took part in the defense of Leningrad during World War 2 in which as a youth he saw both perish. Along with most of his extended family and friends during the long 872-day siege. The effect of these events put a profound psychological impact upon his development into adulthood. His discovery of the Quantum Mask next to a mass grave outside of the city in 1944 promptly saw him scooped up by the NKVD.

Once in the NKVD's grasp and realizing the extent of power the Quantum Mask held, Stalin personally ordered all public records of Vyacheslav Valerion destroyed, while a new identity known as Vladimir Stalin was put in his former names place. For he was to be a new Man of Steel for the Soviet Union. Transported to Siberia, away from prying Western eyes, Vladimir Stalin was put through rigorous training. Both to test his powers and to mold him into a proper operative with the skill necessary to survive encounters with possible Western counterparts.

Then the Death of Stalin happened. Regimes change, agency names change, and mission parameters...also changed. No longer was Vladimir Stalin meant to be the Soviet Man of Steel. He was inserted under the orders of Nikita Khrushchev into America as part of a KGB plant. The KGB going through a titanic effort to craft a fake program, new identity, and backstory for 'John Smith'. World War II veteran and American Hero. Standing for Life, Liberty, and the American Dream of such a Great Society. America's Man of Steel. The CIA's Project: CAPTAIN was entirely a KGB contrived myth so expertly forged as 'lost' documents by the American administration, and Vladimir, now known as John Smith, so convincing that they did not think for a moment with all their nationalistic pride. Their rampant patriotism. That they had been duped by the Communists. This is made all the better by the fact John's mask is transparent, becoming a part of him when he took it up, and therefore people can see his normal face as if it were open to the elements.

Personal goals: To be free. Knowing that if he went rogue, he'd be hunted by both the KGB and CIA.
Silent Power (if applicable): Control over Quantum Matter.
Limitation/drawback: Cannot directly affect biological matter other than himself.
