Introducing the Port Ember Rugby Union Blackstone Premier Cup

The Port Ember Rugby Union Blackstone Premier Cup, or Blackstone Premier Cup for short, is the most prestigious pure domestic rugby union competition within the Republic of Port Ember, held annually at stadiums all across the Ember Archipelago.

History

Despite Rugby Union being a very popular sport within the Republic, it never managed, historically, to garner the sufficient economical and political support it required in order to compete on the international stage - instead remaining confined to university and local private club level.

Just prior to the commencement of the 28th rendition of the Rugby World Cup, the local and university teams gathered together a ragtag team, and managed to earn an invite to the grandest stage of them all for their sport. As could be expected, it went absolutely terribly. The team played four matches in the group stages - losing all four matches, without picking up a single try.

Despite the utter humiliation that the team, and the entire nation by extension suffered at the hands of the World Cup - it did result in a silver lining. The ruling government realised that there was an ever growing demand for the sport to be taken seriously on a national level - and in reply, the Port Ember Rugby Union (PERU) was established, in an effort to professionalise the sport.

Immediately after its formation, PERU followed the example of the Port Ember Football Association, and established a young international team which consisted of young talent who had zero club affiliations at that moment. The idea was to train up a national team of players, to conform to international standards and skills - who could be assigned to newly established professional clubs, after international exposure and a new fan base were established, which would raise the standard of the sport throughout the nation.

This project was launched with one Garry Keeves as the head coach, training the team everyday for 4 years. Just prior to the commencement of World Cup 29, Garry left the project, and was replaced by Alex Renvier, hailing from Neu Engollon, in an attempt to lead the team to glory and experience.

World Cup 29 was thus considered to be the first "unified, professional" attempt at international rugby for the nation. Despite achieving poor results on paper, failing to move past the group stages, the team did manage to show tremendous promise, putting up spectacular displays of skill and passion against some of the best teams in the sport.

Port Ember was forced to withdraw from World Cup 30, as all sporting events, amongst others, were cancelled due to the serious safety risks posed by a large-scale terror campaign which rocked the nation and claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians.

With the terror campaign won by the tropical islanders, the streets of the Archipelago have become safe once more, and the quest for rugby glory was renewed. In an attempt to sky rocket the sport back into international contention, the Ministry of Sports invested billions of Aurums into various sectors of the sport, creating the largest leap of any sport in the nation's history.

The Port Ember Rugby Union Blackstone Premier Cup was established as a direct result of the sport's rejuvenation.

The competition is about to commence its inaugural season.

The Port Ember Rugby Union Blackstone Premier Cup, or Blackstone Premier Cup for short, is the most prestigious pure domestic rugby union competition within the Republic of Port Ember, held annually at stadiums all across the Ember Archipelago. With the inaugural season upon us, Port Ember Times will be taking a short look at all the teams who are about to compete for the honor of lifting the prestigious Blackstone Premier Cup for the very first time.

Before we delve into the individual teams, a short splash of background…

With the brand new political and financial support which was thrown to the sport of rugby by the Ministry of Sports, the Port Ember Rugby Union has executed radical changes to the entire sport’s landscape. These changes are truly massive, and truly revolutionary, all one in an attempt to rocket the sport into international contention. In summary, this is what the Port Ember Rugby Union did with their new found support and power, till thus far:

Port Ember Rugby Union Blackstone Premier Cup: A Look At The Season

With the end of the inaugural Port Ember Rugby Union Blackstone Premier Cup, there is a lot to look at, both in terms of a season analysis, and the future, as this competition was clearly a step into the right direction for Port Emberian rugby, as this tournament gave rise to the future stars of the sport. We will now analyze each team's performance for this season.

Salazaar RUC

Position: 15

Games Played: 28

Games Won: 02

Games Drawn: 00

Games Lost: 26

Points Scored: 232

Points Conceded: 732

Points Difference: -500

Points Accumulated: 08

Biggest Win: Salazaar RUC 35–34 Thurston RUC

Biggest Loss: Lilly Black RUC 55–13 Salazaar RUC

The team hailing from Parthas Island had a rude awakening in their first professional season, learning that they were utterly outclassed by every single other squad in the tournament (though honestly not by much if we look at the two teams just above them on the ladder). This squad has the worst attacking record at 232 points scored, and the second worst defence record at allowing 732 points to be scored against them. This however does not tell the full picture, as the second lowest team on the table - Amanaki RUC, beat their records only just, with 250 points total scored (only 18 more), whilst conceding 738 points, which is 6 points more. BUT, Amanaki managed to clinch 4 total wins - double the wins of Salazaar. This shows you that statistics does not win matches - but the players on the field do, no matter how close the statistics are.

Player(s) to watch:

Whilst quite a few players showed a glint of promise, not a single player truly stood out as potential star power. This team will have to go back to their very foundation and do some serious introspection if they wish to shake their laughing stock status in the competition.

Amanaki RUC

Position: 14

Games Played: 28

Games Won: 04

Games Drawn: 00

Games Lost: 24

Points Scored: 250

Points Conceded: 738

Points Difference: -488

Points Accumulated: 16

Biggest Win: Thurston RUC 16–30 Amanaki RUC

Biggest Loss: Beras RUC 52–0 Amanaki RUC

The team hailing from Diabla Gardeno Island is part of the 'group' which the media had dubbed the "Shameful Three", alongside Thurston and Salazaar, as they find themselves at the bottom of the ladder - and by an embarrassingly large margin. This squad did manage to do better than the bottom feeders of Salazaar, with double the points/wins collected (4 wins to 2), which is tied with Thurston, yet they trailed with a embarrassing 30 points to the closest squad not considered an embarrassment, the team of Falaiseville. This squad had the second worst attacking record, earning only 250 points (8 more than Salazaar), and the worst defensive record, with 738 points conceded.

Player(s) to watch:

As with Salazaar, no player managed to convince the author of any promise of stardom. This squad, alongside the other two shameful bottom feeders, need to be completely reborn if they want a future in this tournament.

Thurston RUC

Position: 13

Games Played: 28

Games Won: 04

Games Drawn: 00

Games Lost: 24

Points Scored: 317

Points Conceded: 685

Points Difference: -368

Points Accumulated: 16

Biggest Win: Thurston RUC 23–3 Salazaar RUC

Biggest Loss: Nirvana RUC 50–7 Thurston RUC

The team hailing from Paradisius Island is the last of the 'group' which the media had dubbed the "Shameful Three", alongside Amanaki and Salazaar, as they find themselves at the bottom of the ladder - and by an embarrassingly large margin. This squad did manage to do better than the bottom feeders of Salazaar, with double the points/wins collected (4 wins to 2), which is tied with Amanaki, yet they trailed with a embarrassing 30 points to the closest squad not considered an embarrassment, the team of Falaiseville. This squad had the third worst attacking record, earning 317 points, and the third worst defensive record, with 685 points conceded. The attacking/defensive records might look a lot better than when compared to the other two bottom feeders, although the 16 total points which they share with Amanaki tells us that they might be better - yet they remain unable to effectively finish a game positively.

Player(s) to watch:

As with the other two bottom feeder squads, no player managed to convince the author of any promise of stardom. This squad, alongside the other two shameful bottom feeders, need to be completely reborn if they want a future in this tournament.

Falaiseville RUC

Position: 12

Games Played: 28

Games Won: 11

Games Drawn: 01

Games Lost: 16

Points Scored: 452

Points Conceded: 474

Points Difference: -22

Points Accumulated: 46

Biggest Win: Amanaki RUC 17–37 Falaiseville RUC

Biggest Loss: Greeford RUC 43–8 Falaiseville RUC

The team hailing from Falaise De Fleur Island is the first team from the bottom of the ladder who is not considered to form part of the 'group' which the media had dubbed the "Shameful Three", consisting of Thurston, Amanaki and Salazaar. Despite laying low on the table, this squad ended up there with dignity, playing for the fences, like a true - struggling, yes - but true professional rugby team. This team managed to win 11 matches, compared to the 4 & 2 of the bottom feeder squads, and only half less than the number 2 squad, Valonia, with 20 wins. Their total points scored of 452 is a remarkable step up from the teams below, whilst maintaining a respectable point difference of -22. Whilst ending up as spot #12 gives you no bragging rights, this squad managed to show consistently that they have potential for something bigger and more glorious.

Player(s) to watch:

Ozzy Mirinda, the team's number 8, is also a veteran national squad player. Ozzy is also the team's captain, and he regularly brought calm during times of panic, leading his squad to exciting turnarounds in the dying quarters of their matches. Whilst Ozzy seems to lack a strategic eye in critical moments of much of the plays, he has become instrumental in leading his squad's front pack in particular, to play a very physical, dominating play.

Austin Tollemache, the team's rookie Fullback is full of promise. He is lightning quick, has a great side step, strong boot and is extremely active during all phases of play. Unfortunately he lacks strategic view, boot accuracy, and his weakness under the high ball is well known. Despite his weaknesses, I firmly believe some firm coaching attention can solve his growth pains and give rise to a very well rounded fullback.

Beras RUC

Position: 11

Games Played: 28

Games Won: 13

Games Drawn: 02

Games Lost: 13

Points Scored: 487

Points Conceded: 554

Points Difference: -67

Points Accumulated: 56

Biggest Win: Beras RUC 32–3 Thurston RUC

Biggest Loss: Beras RUC 3–37 Blacklake RUC

The team hailing from Tridento Island had a challenging, yet promising season. Despite only finishing in the 11th spot on the ladder, the win difference between them and the number three spot is merely 5 wins. Thus, due to the proximity of points, the positions between number 3 & 11 is considered to be the "midfield packs". This is exactly why the Blackstone Premier Cup has received such widespread support from the supporters, as it was an exciting, nail bitingly close competition from the first to last match day (bar the Shameful Three of course). This squad has managed some interesting numbers, namely 13 wins and 13 losses (and 2 draws), putting them on the threshold of serious potential.

Player(s) to watch:

Tucker Ćiela, the team's captain at #6 Flanker, is the sole national squad player of the team, and has really come to life in his captaincy and personal play, showing tremendous personal development, after not getting much time to shine as a reserve flanker for the national team. He has managed to bring forth experience and inspire cohesion to his front pack.

Bram Everill, playing as the #14 Winger, is a promising young lad, who has demonstrated great speed, agility and top notch strength. Bram needs to improve his handling skills, as he regularly fumbles passes, and is known for a great number of knock ons, and can become a future legend if he solves these problem areas.

Redmond RUC

Position: 10

Games Played: 28

Games Won: 14

Games Drawn: 01

Games Lost: 13

Points Scored: 441

Points Conceded: 448

Points Difference: -07

Points Accumulated: 58

Biggest Win: Redmond RUC 40–12 Thurston RUC

Biggest Loss: Greenford RUC 31–7 Redmond RUC

The sole team hailing from Redmond Island, had a challenging, yet promising season, much like the other eight teams classed as the "midfield packs". At times this squad has managed to put on remarkable displays of heroic rugby, providing their fans a glimpse into what this team can be in future. The only problem would appear to be their lack of genuine consistency. Despite that, they have achieved a decent record of 14 wins, 1 draw and 13 losses, being the first team from the bottom half of the table to win more matches than their losses. Their overall points scored was a bit lacking at 441, but achieved a good looking 448 points conceded, a testament to their hard hitting defence.

Player(s) to watch:

Danny Sprita, playing in the #15 jersey as fullback, and team captain, has continued to show why he deserves to be wearing the veteran starter jersey of the national squad, and why he is still considered to be the very best and most rounded of fullbacks within the nation.

Spike Bloodworth, playing as the #13 center, is a rookie who demonstrated tons of talent and potential, a true future star with development. He is exceptionally strong and fast, with the speed of a winger and the strength of a front rower, good situational awareness and a pretty decent kicking boot, making him an interesting utility player in the back line.

Oxbay RUC

Position: 09

Games Played: 28

Games Won: 13

Games Drawn: 03

Games Lost: 12

Points Scored: 474

Points Conceded: 357

Points Difference: +117

Points Accumulated: 58

Biggest Win: Amanaki RUC 6–31 Oxbay RUC

Biggest Loss: Oxbay RUC 26–33 Beras RUC

This is one of two teams hailing from Greenford Island, specifically from Oxbay City (the other team hails from Greenford city, as Greenford RUC). They had a challenging, yet promising season, much like the other eight teams classed as the "midfield packs". The surprising detail about this team is the fact that they are actually a lot better than what their final position on the ladder would make them appear. For instance, despite losing 12 matches, their biggest defeat against Beras RUC, was with a mere 7 points. This means that in every single loss, this squad lost with 7 or less points. That is impressive!

Game play and leaderboard analysis dictates that this squad has one of the most talented front rows in the competition, with the squad dominating set plays, rucks and defensive play, becoming one of the most fearsome defensive teams on the roster. Once this squad's admittedly lackluster backrow catches up to their front pack, this team can turn into champion material.

Player(s) to watch:

Irving Tondra, despite being a bencher #4 lock for the national squad, has demonstrated that he is a player to keep a close eye upon, as he really adapted to his position as a starter lock very well. His power, stamina and charisma knows no bounds, and his chemistry with co-lock, Sacon Castilia, has turned into stuff of legend.

Saxon Castilia shares the same story as Tondra, also being a bencher lock for the national squad, also finding his rhythm as his own man as the #5 Lock. It would be a shame if he did not start a few matches for the national squad in future, as he is a beast - plain and simple.

Greenford RUC

Position: 08

Games Played: 28

Games Won: 15

Games Drawn: 00

Games Lost: 13

Points Scored: 504

Points Conceded: 355

Points Difference: +149

Biggest Win: Salazaar RUC 0–41 Greenford RUC

Biggest Loss: Blacklake RUC 28–8 Greenford RUC

This is one of two teams hailing from Greenford Island, specifically from Greenford City (the other team hails from Oxbay city, as Oxbay RUC). They had a challenging, yet promising season, much like the other eight teams classed as the "midfield packs". The supporters of their team are very proud of managing to ladder-beat their island neighbors, the impressive Oxbay RUC, beating them with one ladder spot. This squad did very well, winning 15 matches whilst losing 13, anf raking in a point difference of +149. They have demonstrated that unlike their Oxbay rivals, they can mix offense and defense equally, to great effect, compliment of a strong & aggressive front row. This squad, not unlike their Oxbay rivals, lacks a strong back row, which would skyrocket this team's success, despite a very impressive front row.

Player(s) to watch:

Jenson Karesinda, despite being a bencher #1 prop for the national squad, has demonstrated that he is a player to keep a close eye upon, as he really adapted to his position as a starter prop very well. His power, stamina and charisma knows no bounds, and his chemistry with co-prop, Jamie Rubena, has turned into stuff of legend.

Jamie Rubena shares the same story as Tondra, also being a bencher prop for the national squad, also finding his rhythm as his own man as the #3 Prop.

Ocean Heath, the #6 Flanker is a man with immense talent and promise, being the captain at the whippersnapper age of 18, yet leading and playing like a veteran. I expect him to don the national colors sooner, rather than later.

This is one of the six teams hailing from the Capital city of Port Ember Megalopolis on Ember Island, and the only one of the mentioned six who finished outside of the top six of the final table, albeit only just, ad they drew equal in points with number six, Greenfields RUC, losing only due to points difference. They had a challenging, yet promising season, much like the other eight teams classed as the "midfield packs". All things said, this squad did very well for a newly developed team, winning 15 matches, drawing one and losing 12, raking in a point difference of +113. This squad had demonstrated a strong showing in their loose forwards and kicking spheres, though they need some foundation building in their front line, set pieces and defencive game.

Player(s) to watch:

Dom Venka is this teams, and the national squad's, #7 Flanker, and has proven throughout the season that he still deserves his dual jerseys. A true legend on the turf.

Synclair Anno is the #8 for this, and the national squad, and has proven to be an impact player, quickly gaining the reputation of being one of the most physical players in the game today. His try against Greenford, whilst literally dragging four defenders to the try line remains the most replayed segment of the competition.

This is one of the six teams hailing from the Capital city of Port Ember Megalopolis on Ember Island, and besides one (Waterstad RUC), all of them ended up on the ladder's top six. The difference between this squad and Waterstad, and thus between being top six or not, had nothing in it, being decided merely by point difference. This team, similar to the other eight teams who has been classified as the "midfield packs", have had a challenging, yet impressive season, demonstrating that they were on the verge of greatness, should hard work and determination persist. This team won 15 matches, drew one and lost 12, and raked in an impressive point difference of +143. This squad had demonstrated that their strengths lies in their backline, with the entire squad placing their strategy upon creating opportunities for their wingers. Unfortunately, most of the other aspects need much work and commitment in order to see this team grow into a well balanced squad.

Player(s) to watch:

Steward Rozabela, the national squad's #14 winger is a try scoring beast, and alongside his team - and national partner, Fièro, they arguably carried the entire squad through the season.

Winger #14 Speaking of, the other star, the #14 Winger, Wilfred Fièro played much the same role, yet picking up more tries, as his speed and agility is the stuff of legend. Probaly 40% of the season's action highlights contains footage of this master of physics.

This is one of the six teams hailing from the Capital city of Port Ember Megalopolis on Ember Island, and besides one (Waterstad RUC), all of them ended up on the ladder's top six. The difference between this squad and Waterstad, and thus between being top six or not, had almost nothing in it, a mere one extra win being the final decider. This team, similar to the other eight teams who have been classified as the "midfield packs", have had a challenging, yet impressive season, demonstrating that they were on the verge of greatness, should hard work and determination persist. This team won 16 matches, drew one and lost 11, and raked in a point difference of +88. This squad had demonstrated that their strengths lay in their frontrow, using flexible execution of strength and impressive technical set pieces. Unfortunately, most of the other aspects need much work and commitment in order to see this team grow into a well balanced squad, specifically in their backrow.

Player(s) to watch:

The national center pair, Darion Antono and Ogden Maraja has been signed as this squad's center pair, and have obviously done a good job of leading their young comrades and instilling some of their hard earned experience. Sadly however, this duo have not been granted to play the quintessential roles of centers, instead being forced to support the frontrow and taking the lead in defense. Hopefully they can develop the remaining backline in order to grant this magical pair an opportunity to be themselves on the turf.

This is one of the six teams hailing from the Capital city of Port Ember Megalopolis on Ember Island, and besides one (Waterstad RUC), all of them ended up on the ladder's top six. From here, we see the cream on top squads, the four best teams of the season, the squads who demand every ounce of attention when playing! This squad finished the ladder part of their season in fourth position, after a solid showing of 19 wins and 11 losses, accumulating 72 championship points, with a point difference of +155. They continued to contest for the prestigious inaugural cup itself, playing, but losing against Blacklake RUC in the semi finals. They continued to win the third place playoffs against Lilly Black RUC. Both of these two matches were absolute nail biters.

Player(s) to watch:

The halfback pair of the star national players, in the form of Scrumhalf #9 Archie Fajra and
Flyhalf #10 Ryley Mićjo is a duo made out of pure legend, myth and magic, being the final decider in many of the matches.

Here, we continue to see the cream on top squads, the four best teams of the season, the squads who demand every ounce of attention when playing! This squad finished the ladder part of their season in third position, after a solid showing of 17 wins, 01 draw and 09 losses, accumulating 76 championship points, with a mighty point difference of +191. They continued to contest for the prestigious inaugural cup itself, playing, but losing against the eventual champions, Blacklake RUC in the semi finals. They continued to contest, but failed to clinch their third place playoffs against Gold Coast RUC. Both of these two matches were absolute nail biters.

Player(s) to watch:

The Lock pair of the star national players, in the form of Graeme Koralo & Ralph Valora is a frontrow pair made of magic, which led to this squad dominating most of the physical drives of play throughout the season.

Biggest Loss: Valonia RUC 13–20 Beras RUC

The sole team who hails from Marca Valo Island, is by far the most impressive surprise to the Port Emberian rugby world this season, despite not earning the honor to lift the first Blackstone Cup. Despite not outright dominating any segment of the season, this squad managed to perform well consistently, with their biggest loss standing at a mere 7 points testifying to this fact. The young squad played their entire hearts and souls out during each and every match, and can stand proud of the fact of being absolute legends in the making. What makes them so extremely popular and adds the shock factor, is the fact that they did not manage to sign even a single experienced player, consisting completely of a bunch of pimpled 18 year old warriors, outclassing teams which were completely in another league on paper. These guys managed to conquer their opponents 20 times, whilst losing narrowly only 08 times. They continued to contest for the cup, beating the Gold Coast squad in the semi finals, but losing against the champions during the final, in what was unarguably the match of the year.

Player(s) to watch:

Honestly, the entire team performed consistently well, and every individual is a star in the making. However, the following players manage to truly make their marks:

Kent Wakefield, the #1 Prop distinguished himself as a monster of the game in human form. Absolute beast.

The flanker pair of Hector Eldridge and Eliot Tuft is insanely good, and very much on par with the national team standards.

The center duo of Carlyle Adorinda and Steven Stelara is just as good and potential future hall of famers.

Biggest Loss: Oxbay RUC 15–5 Blacklake RUC

This is one of the six teams hailing from the Capital city of Port Ember Megalopolis, who collectively dominated this tournament, all but one squad not ending up in the top six. It has come as no surprise for the team of Blacklake to dominate the tournament, as they have been the only squad to have managed to sign a whopping four players of the starting national squad. What has come as a surprise however, was the sheer scale of their dominance. An entire season complete with but one draw (against Redmond) and one loss (against Oxbay), a record has been set which will probably stand the test of time for all eternity. This team is the champions - the very best of the best. Hell, one could easily just take the entire team and give them national squad jerseys!

Player(s) to watch:

As hinted above, the entire team performed perfectly, consistently, and every individual is a star or at least a star in the making. However, the following players manage to truly make their marks:

The national squad starters in the form of Davie Nikolao, Kaden Gaja (#2 Hooker), Domenic Amika (#3 Prop) & Kennedy Miéla (#8) continuously set the bar for professionalism in the sport, and collectively dominated the front row.

Port Emberian Rugby's off-season proving to be everything but "off"

After a very exciting inaugural run of the annual Port Ember Rugby Union Blackstone Premier Cup, Port Emberian Rugby has never looked this good, with administrators, coaches, players, sponsors, media houses and supporters alike being infected with a serious case of Rugby Fever, with interest in the sport skyrocketing to within the top 5 within the nation, seemingly overnight, and researchers estimating that these numbers should continue to rise in the near future, possibly transforming rugby into the nation's favorite sport within the next five years.

As proof of this concept, the national rugby union, the Port Ember Rugby Union (PERU), has managed to include the Union into the highest level of international Club competition - the Nationstates Club Rugby Union - otherwise known as the RUCT. This prestigious tournament is where the best club teams of some of the greatest rugby nations compete against one another, in a bid to prove that they have what it takes to not only be national champions, but international contenders.

This tournament is truly a Premier Cup of Premier Cups, and I strongly commend the admnistrators of PERU for getting our teams signed up to this tournament, which would surely assist our nation's rugby building efforts. After all, if you wish to become the best, you need to compete against the best.

Two domestic Port Emberian squads have been chosen to compete within the 39th rendition of the RUCT, namely Blacklake RUC and Valonia RUC.

Blacklake RUC is the reigning champions of the Port Ember Rugby Union Blackstone Premier Cup, after winning the inaugural Cup in spectacular fashion, dominating every aspect of the competition, proving that they held no equal domestically, not even close. They will be hoping that their spectacular display this year can translate on the international stage during the RUCT.

As champions of the domestic cup, the lads in black was accepted straight into the Group Stages, and have been drawn into Group D, alongside the Highmark City Irish (QOD); Idyllwild Coronae (KOR) and Rogerton Blues (DAR), all cream of the top squads.

Valonia RUC was the second Port Emberian squad invited into the RUCT, and was the biggest surprise of the domestic season. Although not being nearly on par with the brilliant squad of Blacklake, they quickly became fan favorites, as they entered a team with zero experienced players or coaching staff, yet allowed pure passion and determination to lead them to a spectacular clash of wills against the champions in the finals - a match which managed to force the entire nation come to a complete halt for 80 minutes.

As runner ups, the lads hailing from Valonia City upon the Marca Valo Island was drafted into the RUCT's Preliminary Round (Qualifiers), where they were pitted against Pearl City Icelandic, hailing from the The Hannasean Federation, a well established and veteran squad, in a double round face-off.

In typical Valonian fashion, the rookies played both matches like it was their very last day on earth, winning both matches comfortably, the first match with a final score of 39–0, and the second match with 30–0, for a combined score of 69-0. This shockingly impressive score was coincidently the best winning margin of all the squads in the Preliminary Rounds, by a large margin.

Now advancing to the Group Stages, Valonia has been placed in Group H, alongside Timesteam (KGS); Wynleth Cambria (KSK) and Jokers (AFT).

The following details have been released for both squads as they pack their kit bags ahead of this prestigious matches:

The remaining thirteen squads who forms part of the domestic leg of the Port Ember Rugby Union who did not garner an invite to the RUCT, is by no means backing down during the off-season. It is reported that all thirteen squads are running extensive training camps and implementing lessons learned after their performances during the Cup's first season, hoping to allow hard work and smart plays to shine through during the next season. Many Unions are also reported to be actively on the hunt for new recruits, both undiscovered talent, and proven veterans currently signed with another Union.

The next rugby season is bound to be an explosive one!

Blacklake RUC & Valonia RUC steaming forth in Nationstates Club Rugby Union 39

The two Port Emberian premier rugby union teams who have earned an invitation to the prestigious 39th rendition of the Nationstates Club Rugby Union tournament (RUCT), the reigning Port Emberian premier league champions, Blacklake RUC and runners up, Valonia RUC, have been pulling their own weight against some of the most skilled and experienced club rugby teams in the multiverse, and then some.

Valonia RUC has become a bit of a fan favorite amongst Port Emberian fans, even within regions where Valonia does not hail from, due to the fact that they entered the Port Emberian Premier League without a single face amongst the players and coaching staff being previously known in the professional rugby scene, yet they displayed unparallelled levels of passion, commitment and dedication, which allowed the underdogs to push through all the way to the finals, where they put up one one of the season's best performances against the eventual champions, Blacklake RUC, who have dominated the league from the very beginning. In many ways, Valonia RUC embodies the very spirit of the Port Emberian people - habitual underdogs who use superior passion to cause a typhoon in upsets.

Valonia commenced their RUCT journey by playing two rounds against the veteran Hannasean team of Pearl City Icelandic in the Qualification rounds, finishing with a total shutout win, with a total tally of 69-0. They were then drawn into Group H for the Group Stages. Here they once again proved their depths of passion and perseverance, ending their run of the group stages as their group winners.

Here they faced off against Timesteam (KGS); Wynleth Cambria (KSK) and Jokers (AFT), winning a total of 4 matches and losing 2, accumulating 16 points. As group winners, they now are scheduled to play against Gibeon Iron Men (COA) during the Intermediate Round.

On the other hand, Blacklake RUC, the reigning Port Emberian Premier League Champions, who have dominated that tournament in every facet, had skipped the Qualification Rounds, as reward for their status, and were drawn directly into Group D, alongside Highmark City Irish (QOD); Idyllwild Coronae (KOR) and Rogerton Blues (DAR). The favorite sons of Port Emberian rugby had a tougher time when compared to Valonia, winning three and losing three of their matches. In fact, they only managed to qualify for the Intermediate Rounds due to a better points difference than their opponents. For the Intermediate Round, they will face off against Group G winners, Redswyth Rebels (KSK), who are currently enjoying being in great form.

The author wishes to congratulate both squads for advancing to the tournament's Intermediate Rounds, and wishes them good luck - as they will surely need it against their top level opponents.

In other rugby news, sources has indicated that negotiations have commenced between the Port Ember Rugby Union and the Port Arthur Rugby Union, discussing the possibilities of creating a new competition which would see Port Emberian and Port Arthurian teams face off against one another.

If this turns out to be true, this will be revolutionary for Port Emberian rugby, especially considering that Port Arthur is the Colony of Port Ember, making the development of the rugby infrastructure of both nations beneficial.

The national team of Port Arthur, the Red Pandas, has already proven their potential in the last world cup, showing that their national talent is on par with Port Ember.

Interesting times ahead for rugby!
