"Just focus on finishing it, Athan. Bring it home, let's make the repairs for tomorrow." — Adrian Bernal voice was kind of disheartened.

That kind of frustration had become an unhappy habit back in these days. Finish dead last after some good results were always frustrating. A result very distant from the podium was already expected since the qualifiers were plagued with uncertainty. The car didn't answer well in Baker Park. In the race, it turned even worse. Lille was 16th in Lap 35, not even close to the top eight, to have a chance on the inverted grid. Then he broke the front wing when running over the kerb in Turn 12. As expected, an open-wheeler without a front spoiler lose a lot of downforces, becoming itself very hard to drive. He dragged his car to the pitlane for the wing change. To try and make up some lost time, they also switched to soft tyres. But in the end, this wasn't enough. He could barely reach the 25th placed driver, in the dark blue car of EHF Motospiel, before seeing the chequered flag being waved.

"Ilya P24, Athan P26, not a good day, but let's try our best once more tomorrow..." — The Team Leader, Amy Graad, addressed the team on the radio, soon after Bernal. She was also not pleased. That was her first opportunity as Team Principal, and having two drivers in the bottom three wasn't good for her position in Bitten Heroes.

That last lap around the Drummond Vale Circuit was definitely filled with a sour feeling. Athan defeated the five kilometres of the circuit once more, leaving the car back at Parc Fermé and returning to the boxes. When entering the boxes, some gentle pats on the back received him. That was a team, so all of that guys and girls were feeling bad too. They could only lick their wounds and rest for the day tomorrow. Maybe tomorrow would be a better day.

"I'm going to the motorhome, I'll sleep a bit on that nice sofa. I feel a little uneasy." - He muttered. It was almost inaudible. He was tired, his body was in the usual pain and heat, and at that time, the outcome had been the worst possible. He would certainly need some time to rest.

Vankkavalta Nøperasinkring, Vankkavalta, Aboveland :: It was a big week for Skiia Vialiv in Aboveland as she looked to get her World Grand Prix 2 campaign back on track at the Vankkavalta Nøperasinkring before getting the opportunity to hop behind the wheel of a World Grand Prix Championship machine for Tropicorp Racing Aelund at the mid-season Test Driver showcase at the Fjellutfordring - also within Aboveland.

While Vialiv turned heads with her performances for the under-prepared Mertagne GP team during WGP2 Season 4, it was her Rookie Teammate Ryden Solow who had taken advantage of the teams better preparation for WGP2 Season 5 having earned a race victory and leading the drivers standings through 4 events. Vialiv had entered the WGP2 season as a favorite to compete for the Drivers Championship as the returning competitor who had placed highest in the previous seasons Drivers Standings. At the Vankkavalta Nøperasinkring in Aboveland, Vialiv got off to a slow start placed just 22nd in the opening practice session but improved during the One-Shot qualifying session to roll off the grid in 11th position - starting just outside the points.

Forty-Three Laps later Vialiv had moved herself into the points crossing the line in 8th place. While it was an acceptable performance considering the way the weekend had started, she was once again left to watch her teammate celebrate as Ryden Solow was once again on the podium, finishing 3rd behind Adonis Fitzpatrick and Alvis Kalvin Lacsamana. It left Vialiv 7th in the overall standings, 29 points behind her teammate at the top.

From the lower grip of the WGP2 machines, Vialiv would trade in her Tropicorp VilBev GP2 ride for one of the most prized seats in all of motor racing, the graphite and tropic gold of Tropicorp Racing Aelund. With the eyes of the Local Abovian fans on the teams newest driver and potential future starter, Vialiv was fastest of all WGP2 test drivers and 16th overall on test day practices. However, the speeds in qualifying for the Test Driver Showcase were very tight and despite being just over a tenth of a second off the time set by the local Janne Laukkanen test driving for Nexus Racing, Vialiv would only have the 7th fastest time on the grid.

Despite the disadvantage from the start, Vialiv would rally during the Showcase event advancing four places from 7th to take the last spot on the podium behind Laukkanen. While it was a non-points event against just 12 competitors, it was a solid momentum boost for Vialiv who had perhaps began to question their own career trajectory after a slow start to the WGP2 season. The Vilitan would then get the chance to stop back home in the Tropics for a couple of days en route southward to Baker Park for the next round of the World Grand Prix 2 Season at the Drummond Vale Circuit.

"Okay, you can choose to enter the garage but won't get to talk with me as I'll be talking with the team all day, even after qualifying. Or you can head up directly in the VIP box where you can see me when I get to the track. Or do them both," Aaron suggested to her mother, sister, and Logan. He is excited. He has folks watching him. No, not the folks Jamie tells as his fans. They're folks Aaron knows.

"I'll bring 'em to the VIP box," Logan replied.

"But I want to see Ron here in the garage and the VIP box," Abigail chimed in. Everyone smiled upon hearing Abigail. What a cute little thing, they thought.

"Who's Ron, Abe?" Aaron laughed, "Jamie, make sure Abby does not do anything that might disturb me today," while smiling.

After finishing one lap in the Practice session

"Talk to me, Tomaš", Aaron asked for information from his race engineer over the radio.

"I'm still about to receive the results from simulations," Aaron hears Tomaš over the radio, "but you clocked in 2min 0.577sec. I'll tell you more when I get more information."

"Copy that. Thank you," Aaron replied.

Race day

While Jamie shows Logan and Abigail around the garage, telling them what each thing they see can help Aaron in the race, Aaron's mother pulled him towards the car.

Aaron shrugged. "If you just wanted to know if the car I'm driving runs on Pop's fuel, I'll spoil it first for y-"

"So tell me about your girlfriend," his mother cut him off.

"My girlfriend? I don't have one." Aaron bluntly replied.

"Her," her mother points to Jamie.

"Is she telling everyone that she's my girlfriend?"

"What are you on about?"

"Oh, she didn't? She's telling me about how some people love to see me drive and wants my autograph."

"Well, at least, believe her," his mother tells him.

"So they're true?" Aaron is still amazed about the news of him having fans.

"Well, she's more popular than you are," his mother laughs. "They know Jamie's your manager. We've been approached less than ten times by people asking for your autograph. Though it seems everyone wants to take a picture with her."

"I don't know, Ma. I don't want to get that to my head this time. All I want to do is to drive, make sure I get points for the team. Popularity will be there when I win more races. When I become an established driver someday."

"You're already one, my son," his mother smiles at him proudly. "You're the first Adaikesian driver here. It's your first season and you're already winning points. You're also the test driver to the main team of half the team you're currently driving for. Motorsports may not be popular yet in Adaikes but anyone with the basic knowledge can tell you're a skillful driver."

"Thanks, Ma." is what Aaron can only say.

First used for motorsport in 1953 as a motorcycle hillclimb venue, Drummond Vale was slowly developed into a fully enclosed racing facility between 1960-65, and lengthened to its current 3.35 mile (5.4km) distance in 1975 with the addition of the 'Foot' complex to the south of the main straight.
Located in the southwestern corner of Baker Park State, the largest of the seven that make up the Commonwealth, the course sits about 5.5 miles (8.8 km) outside the town of Drummond Vale, and is easily accessible via expressway from the nearest major cities—Clayton, Ezriquay, Hamilton and Belle Haven, the capital of the nation.

There are four permanent track configurations, which can also be mixed and matched at several points; the Club Course is the shortest and is used mainly for karting, open wheel midgets and properly equipped small sports cars for use by members of the DVRC Club; the Vale Course runs longer and includes the flatter area of the infield, where touring cars, Formula BP (open wheel}, and professionally equipped sports cars, along with motorcycles compete; the Hill Course, which was the original hill climb track and used by the same group that race on the Vale; and the full length Championship Course, which will be the configuration on which the WGP2 series will race.

The run down the front straight leads to the first corner, a sweeping left hander taken in fourth or fifth gear—from the start/finish line its fourth, fifth when the entire length of the straight is traveled—followed by the first heavy breaking area at turn 2, where the runoff area is mainly to the right.
Turn 3 is wider, with a gravel trap to the outside once past the pit lane exit, followed by a quick blast through turn 4 (4 gear) to a left hand widening radius turn 5 before another braking zone at turn 6 (gravel/asphalt runoff to the outside) and another right hander at 7.
The climb to turn 8 is about 2.6% grade and reaching the highest point on the track (5g) brings you to a double apex left hand hairpin (2g) with a minimal downslope to turn 9, a tighter right hand version of the previous corner, with the added factor of the second apex being off camber to the outside and the beginning of the downhill back “straight”. There is gravel outside of both 8 & 9, but asphalt at the exits to both.
The descent includes the 5th gear turn 10 before reaching the chicane, a right-left-right turns 11 & 12 with a heavy breaking zone on the approach. This is the lowest point on the course and after 12, there is a moderate uphill blast to 13, another hairpin that can be taken a bit faster than the other two, followed by the run to 14, a hard braking left hander that is followed by a tight right hand (2g) at 15, the “heel” of the foot, with another run up through the gears to 16, slower on entry than the exit (with the pit lane entrance on the left) then through the sweep at 17 back onto the main straight.
The track has been widened by 3-5 feet at a few points—especially the 4-5-6 complex--to allow for safer side by side racing and allow for smoother transitions to and from the Vale/Hill courses. The chicane has also been widened at the exit.

Vaccinia punched her crew chief's number into her phone. She wanted to talk to him about the team's plans for the sprint race. The phone rang a few times, then went to voicemail.

Her first instinct was to dissolve into fog and zip around on the wind until she found him, but she recalled that mortals considered it rude to appear in person unannounced.

She watched a game show where contestants had to answer trivia questions, then tried calling again when the show ended. Still no answer.

She changed to a different channel and watched an infomercial about an alternative medicine that was supposed to remove toxins from the body and prevent infections, but she didn't see any way it would actually slow down any virus she knew. Sadie, who was in the form of a hawk perched on a nearby lamp, cackled with laughter. "What kind of infection are they trying to prevent? Zamilon?"

"Maybe rinderpest? I bet nobody ever got rinderpest after drinking that stuff."

When they were done laughing at the stupid infomercial, Vaccinia tried calling her crew chief again. This time she got an answer. "It's two in the morning!" said a grumpy voice on the other end of the phone. "Why the hell are you calling me at two in the morning?"

"I wanted to talk to you about the sprint race."

"Vaccinia, it's two in the morning!"

Vaccinia looked at the clock. It was indeed two o'clock, but she didn't understand the significance of the time. "Yeah...? Are you busy?"

"It's two in the morning; I'm trying to sleep! Why are you calling me at two in the morning???"

"Why not?"

"BECAUSE IT'S TWO IN THE MORNING!!!"

It finally sank in that this was not a good time to call, though Vaccinia still didn't entirely understand why. "Okay, I'm sorry for bothering you. I didn't know it was a bad time."

She ended the call and turned to Sadie. "How was I supposed to know it was a bad time?"

"It's the middle of the night," said Sadie.

Vaccinia looked at the window and saw that it was indeed night. "Okay, but why does that matter?" Since Bamford had no day or night, the time of day had no meaning in their culture.

"Humans sleep at night."

"But people don't all sleep at the same time," Vaccinia protested.

Sadie facepalmed into the feathers of her wing. "If you need to call someone, you should do it during the day, okay?"

"And you had to win it when we're not there?" Logan laughing, Aaron hears him on his phone. Everyone in the team is loud, probably drunk, with another party celebrating Aaron's win in the Sprint Race in Baker Park.

"'Had to win it'?!" Aaron replied, "do you think I did not want to win when we were in Aboveland?"

"Yes, I think so," Logan said, while laughing, "your mother and sister were there, yet you can only get 1 point. When we're not there, you get 4 points in the Feature, and you win the Sprint. Fine, we're not visiting you anymore."

"I do not want to sound big, but it's not beginner's luck anymore, right?"

"Oh, don't you get cocky, boy! Get your head in the game. It's still your first season, and we're still halfway in it. I hope you're not only driving putting your feet in the pedals, but you're using your head in them," Logan said.

"Oh, that's how I felt racing there in Adaikes, Logan," Aaron replied. "Being Viska's WGPC Test Driver made me think about other aspects in racing, and that's not only about stomping the pedals and maneuvering the steering wheel. I deeply appreciate the support, Logan, when I said I want to try the international circuits."

"No, Aaron, thank you," Logan responded, "you're the one who wanted to try new challenges. If you hadn't said anything about WGPC, I just would've looked for another area here to convert into a racetrack for you to race on."

Jamie showed another phone to Aaron, and what Aaron read on the lock screen removed the happiness he was feeling the whole night out of him.

I'll try to call you later when I can remember," ending the call before Logan can even say anything back. He put the phone on the table while taking the phone Jamie was holding. Jamie then took the phone on the table.

Just right after Aaron could read the one word his father texted him, his phone went black and changed to another screen.

Post Sprint Race

He looked at the contacts now pushed into his phone, wondering what to say. Batu Tüvshinbayar had an interesting time last time out, as he both gained no points and a new "friend", if he could call him that yet, at the same track. While Adonis Fitzpatrick wasn't feeling down due to external pressure (it was something more "personal", which was fine by Batu), the exchanging of information afterwards ("So you don't have to go sneaking around garages to stick up notes anymore"... a signal of intent in Batu's mind) gave him hope that maybe, Adonis (or "Donny", as some people on his page prefered to call him) could be a mate to the Mongolian...something he hasn't had for most of his life until his move to SOC.

Speaking of Orange Cow, it was the team's home race here at Drummond Vale and so everyone knew they had to try and do well for the home fans. He was a part of a team who truly treated him like someone - so much so that the test track they used got an update. To commemorate Batu's Pole a few rounds ago, Turn 7 (F.K.A "Estes" like Turn 6) will now be known as "Batu", his name forever immortalised into the history of SOC. He made sure to hug everyone after that and that was the motivation he needed to press on during Friday. It was dry for Practice and that was good for data as Jordon Crowe was 3rd and Batu 8th, only 1 place back on Adonis (as if the gods were sending signs like flyers in the wind) with Haru Jukkenna and Skiia Vialiv. Then the rain came in time for Qualifying and SOC took real advantage of home turf, with Crowe getting 2nd and Batu in 3rd with only Nikhil Pillai managing to break the home stranglehold in this session (Adonis was 12th btw). It certainly felt like a good day and everyone in the home ranks was in a joyous mood heading into the 2 races over the weekend.

The showers would be light for Saturday's Feature Race, the main event of the whole weekend and a chance for some good points for the home team heading towards the halfway point. Both cars got off to brilliant starts, moving past Pillai with ease at Turn 1 but from there, the game had to be played. Obviously, no one wanted a Carter-Matviyenko at San Marco situation today as that would cause everyone, particularly Batu, to get quite emotional and all that. So the card was played: if Crowe could keep up the pace, then he will lead to the flag. He did just that with Jukkenna in 3rd and Adonis 16th and while the win slipped from Batu's grasp, a 1-2 will always be a cause for celebration. He and Crowe were the tag team of dreams at the podium and 18 points were certainly not going to be turned down by the Mongolian.

The Top 8 would be flipped for the Sprint so Batu's 2nd would mean he started 7th with Aaron Deering, Sullivan Joyner, and Chiruno Hakusoe being your Top 3. In the end, Deering held on for his maiden win over Sam Blaatschapen, who pasted Hakusoe for P2 not far from the end. Crowe was 5th, Batu where he started in 7th and Adonis ended the weekend with no points as all. Sure, he could've done better today, but 2 points were still points to Tüvshinbayar - they all counted in the end. Both SOC cars left the homeland in the Top 10 of the standings, with Crowe 20 points off leader Ryden Solow in 4th and Batu 29 points back in 8th, 2 points behind Adonis. The Constructors was also tight, with SOC only 10 points off leaders Tropicorp VilBev in 3rd.

Another double-header will kick off the 2nd half in Aji No Moto but tonight, Batu could afford to celebrate with the gang he now found himself a part of. The SOC team felt like a family to him right now, far better than the real one he had in Shinebaishin who effectively locked him in his house for his whole childhood until they felt he was "ready to bring honour to our name". Being outside and in the "real world" taught him a lot about how his upbringing made him - and how it hindered him to this very day. Adonis knew the type of person he was: gay and likes to be in shadows. But Batu was just as clueless as Adonis may be about who Batu really was. He was always taught that once he was outside, he would find his feet and his true nature. For now, he had to try and figure things out...starting with his new "friend" across the digital plane...

Brief Geography
Aji No Moto is an island located in Southwest Atlantian Oceania, with capital being Joshuyo City. The island state is divided into four provinces: Shibara, located at the northeastern part of the country, Shintaki, located at the southwest part, Hayase, at the east to northeast of Shintaki, and the administrative city of Joshuyo, located between Hayase and Shibara provinces.

The City of Serizawa
The city of Serizawa, which is administratively part of Shibara province, is located adjacent of Joshuyo City, and due to the need to expand the metropolis area, is deemed to be part of Greater Metropolitan Joshuyo Area. Serizawa is the haven of the Ajian car industry, with most of the car manufacturers based here - Kissan (which is actually spelt Ki-san locally), Dahon, Doyota, among others, having their offices there. However, not all the manufacturers have a knack for motorsports - only Kissan, Dahon, Shigematsu, and Aisakyu have their motorsport division, and Kissan having the most prominent motorsports division - the Kissan Motorsport - simply known as KISMO.

International travelers wishing to go to Serizawa for the race weekend must go first to Joshuyo, as it is the nearest international airport to the city. At peak season, like the weekend of the WGPC race, several charter flights can be served from select Atlantian Oceania cities that do not have regular flights to the Ajian capital - courtesy of the Flag carrier, Aji Air. Daily direct flights can be served from San Marco, Filindostan, or from Ingbert-Borbély, Gergary. The airline plans to expand its destination to serve Ajian people and tourists alike. Upon arrival in Joshuyo, buses sponsored by Kissan Motors will be deployed to transit the visitors to Serizawa, usually a 40 minute to 1 hour bus ride from the airport. Only those who have tickets, VIP passes, and complimentary passes to the race weekend are permitted to ride the buses, which leaves in a two-hour interval. WGPC teams have their own vans also provided by Kissan Motors to be used as transportation to the circuit.

With regards to weather, the entire Aji No Moto usually have 25 percent chance of rain for the race weekend, regardless of the season the country is in.

Serizawa Racing Circuit

The Serizawa Racing Circuit is a permanent racing facility located in Serizawa, Aji No Moto. Owned by the local automobile giant Kissan, is more of a type that will test the cars' engine power and overtaking opportunities, which are featured in the Kissan Straight, the Serizawa Complex leading up to The Bird's Beak, and the banked curb after the Widow's Peak turn that leads to the opening part of the Kismo Complex.

The track starts on a ~300 meter straight into the 130-degree turn at Turn 1, then speeds to the Asahi Kerb, before encountering another straight line leading to the Sugiyama Corner, more of a semi-sharp kerb before slowing further down to turns 4 and 5, known as The Complex. A bend then leads into the slowest point of the circuit, The Bird's Beak. The cars then power through the bend into another semi-hairpin, the banked Turn 7, before pacing through a series of sharp kerbs, Turns 8 and 9, in which the power of the car and the speed is important as they lead into the Kissan Straight. This straight is around ~850 meters and has a slight bank leading towards the Widow's Peak, which is a banked kerb leading to the technical section, the Kismo Complex. A sharp turn at turn 15 leads the cars into the start/finish line to complete the lap.

The track is one of the most forgiving one in the WGPC calendar, with the cars' engine power being tested more than the technical skill of the driver. The track itself presents many opportunities to overtake as it is wider than normal and usually have many run-off areas and gravel traps, to decrease chances of driver injuries. It is also one of the shortest tracks of the season at 3.526 kilometers.

The Konbini 24/7 WGP2 Race of Shibara
Round 6 of the fifth WGP2 season will shift from one Atlantian Oceania venue to another, as the paddock travels from Drummond Vale in Baker Park to the Serizawa Racing Circuit in Aji No Moto, making its return as a WGPO-sanctioned international venue since WGPC 16. The makeshift second round of that season due to Aelsh organizers pulling out of the WGPC weeks before the round saw current Badai Angin driver and then-MRT driver Rustom Ibuna clash with local driver and current AOCAR driver Kyoko Fujisaki, now his fiancee on the way to win his first, and so far his only win in WGPC.

The race at Serizawa is the second of three scheduled feature-sprint races in the calendar, after the race at Baker Park, and before the race at Circuit Grandeville in Lisander in a few months time. This will be the first time that the WGP2 category will race in this circuit.

Championship Picture
Twenty points separate the top four in the championship, with Beepeean driver Ryden Solow leading Filindo driver Alvis Kalvin Lacsamana by ten points, with another Badai Angin academy driver Edward Rousseau a further seven points behind, and three is the home hero in the previous race, Jordan Crowe. Twelve points is what separate the top four teams, as Tropicorp VilBev GP2 hold a slender two point advantage over Nexus Racing, with Scuderia Orange Cow, and the home team, ANMARA, 10, and 12 points behind the leaders respectively.

Despite not having any home drivers this season, the fans will be behind ANMARA and their two Esportivan drivers, Lacsamana, and the Licentian Daniel Rae.

Serizawa Racing Circuit
Media day and track inspection

The WGP2 paddock arrived at Serizawa Racing Circuit for the sixth round of the second tier of the WGPO open wheel competition's fifth season. As with the support race last weekend at Drummond Vale, the AOGP team operated by Katana Racing was also in the circuit for the support series race. Having been only awarded the WGP2 race and the WGPC race being held in Filindostan this weekend, the feature and sprint race would be held earlier than expected in order for the viewers to see the WGPC product on the expected timezone.

Walking around the track, AK and Daniel was with Kousuke and some of the engineers from the ANMARA team, and similar to last weekend, they were accompanied by the KISMO-backed Katana Racing personnel, with their drivers Asuna and Astigar. Kousuke was briefly asked about the conditions of the track, and said that it could rain over the weekend, and then he was asked how he felt standing on the podium during the race at Almur, where the Ajian national anthem was played due to AK's win.

"I said to these two that the car is shit, but it seems the improvements we had over the previous races made the difference, we can now compete for the teams' championship, and AK is in a prime spot for the championship in the drivers' one." Kousuke confidently told the Katana engineers while trekking the Bird's Beak portion of the circuit.

"What if AK wins the championship, will Badai Angin promote him to WGPC immediately?" Asuna curiously asked the question to the ANMARA team principal. Kousuke held his thoughts, as AK was in the vicinity but was very busy analyzing with his engineer. "What if this gal is just fishing for answers? I know Kyoko at this point would take one of the ANMARA spots next season and I make this one upset?"

"Uhmm, not sure about it. They are the ones who decide if they plan to have their academy drivers in WGPC teams next season. There is also Edward driving for Nexus Racing. He is also Academy driver, and fighting the championship as well." Kousuke seems to lose his composure that his English started to deteriorate at the moment, but Asuna didn't mind, and continued her track-related queries to Kousuke and the Katana engineers.

Kousuke did not want to put more pressure to his drivers prior to the weekend, but with them embroiled in a tight battle in the teams' and drivers' championship, he just encouraged his drivers to make the fans happy and proud.

“You know, Mr. al-Taghlibi, if results don’t get much better, I might consider dropping all this and going back to school,” Sal said, frustration and exasperation evident in his tone, coming through his uneven breathing as he rattled off the words.

“Calm yourself down,” replied Mustafa al-Taghlibi through the phone in that oh-so-familiar voice, that voice which tried to be reassuring but almost always came off as flat. Well, I guess he’s trying. “You’re still 16 and this is your first season in WGP2. That you’re even able to make it to this level means you’re one of the best drivers in the world. No one can take that away from you.”

That part was true, Sal admitted to himself. Many others could only dream of even getting into WGP2. “I feel like I don’t know myself,” he continued through gritted teeth. “At the beginning things would always seem to go well and then they’d just go… wrong. I thought I had a car that could at least contend for top ten. And, well, sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t.”

“You will win. Your time will come,” Mustafa said, with barely a change in his flat tone. “I mean, you did win that first race – damn the no points – and you have the potential. You will win more races. You will finish many more times in the top ten. In the top five, even. On the podium.”

“And when will that time come?”

“Well I don’t know. But I know you have what it takes. To fight for the top positions. To win.”

“Do I?”

“You do.”

A few seconds of silence, and then Sal resumed, his voice starting to rise. “Donny won a race and he got all the points, I’m not jealous, but when I looked at him standing on the podium… I want to be there. I want to be in his position. But every race I just get into my car and I drive around and around pointlessly like a horse at a merry-go-round, thinking whether I could be better than this and not knowing the answer.”

“You can be better. You can always be better,” Mustafa tried to reassure him. “Sooner or later that moment will come and you can show the world your true greatness.”

“I want to win,” Sal continued, his gritted teeth barely hiding his exasperation, rising with every sentence, “or at least fight for the podium or something. I know I keep telling myself that I’m in this for fun, that I can always do something else if this doesn’t work, but when I’m in, I’m in 100%. I mean, I might drop all this anyway at the end of this season if I don’t feel like doing it, but this is the middle of the season and I’m still here. And God I hope I can actually do well!”

“You will. Relax, you’re only 16. You still have much time. You will show the world how great you are.”

Practice
"So, Drummond Vale. What's it feel like to be in the Commonwealth of Baker Park? Regional heavyweights, you know."
"I don't know, actually. My nation is in Anaia." replied Bryce to Soishic, as he slid into the car.
"But you know the Commonwealth, right? You must have heard of them." quizzed Soishic.
"Mate, I'm pulling your leg. I came here for Orange Cow tryouts. I've done the Vale Course before. I'm looking forward to tackling the back section of the track, though, should be a good bit of fun. I don't think I'm getting anywhere near the Orange Cows this weekend, again I suppose, but let's see how it goes. Plenty of opportunity to race with the sprint race, too."

Bryce pulled the white and red car out of the garage and set onto the track. It had been a fairly easy week for him, as he was still riding a high from a personal best after finishing 18th in the race in Aboveland. Media presence surrounding Bryce seemed to be high in Mertagne, and was now interviewed for national sports publications about once a week. Typically, the questions were about how he felt about the battle for the top of the championship between names like Ryden Solow, Edward Rousseau, and Adonis Fitzpatrick. Bryce didn't have much of an opinion on them, as he unfortunately didn't get to race them that often - he didn't even get to see them that often, as he was rarely a whole lap down and didn't get blue-flagged.

Roaring the car around Drummond Park, Bryce was happy to find that he'd settled into the track fairly easily and remembered the parts that were identical to the Vale Course fairly well. He did get caught out on Turn 5 for the first few laps, which was in his head a zone to pick up speed, but with the track configuration was now a wide sweeping turn to the left. The hill section proved difficult with the hairpins reminding Bryce of some of the mountainous roads in Yethal, before he was able to really bring the car up to speed through Turn 10. He braced for the more technical section of turns 11 and 12, but was able to make it through with ease on his later attempts at the lap time, suffering from a bit of lock-up on his first few attempts.

"Bryce, have you ever noticed how the map of Drummond Vale looks like a weirdly stylised letter 'n'?" squawked Soishic on the radio.

"No, I can't say I have. I try to feel the track..."

"...in a way that doesn't involve..."

"...staring at maps." Bryce replied, as he took the hairpins around the back of the track again.

"Well, you're on the back flick of the 'n'now and you're making good pace."

Bryce thought a little in his head before responding, making sure to respond after he'd finished turns 11 and 12. "'Good pace'? What does that mean? Where am I right now?"

"Well, you're not doing as good as your teammate, but that's not important..."

"Soishic. What position am I in?"

"Solidly in 16th."

"Well, okay, you can tell me that!" Bryce said as he sped down the start straight. "How about now?"

"Better! 14th. Nope, now 15th. Blaatschapen's come in better than you right now. Do you still want to know on future laps?"

"You don't have to spare my feelings, Soishic. I can take the competition. I mean, at least tell me where I am in relation to Tsunopin."

Practice continued and Bryce was unable to improve on his time as much as other drivers had. He finished his practice in a solid and familiar 20th place.

Qualifying
The rain clouds drew over Drummond Vale and began to pour as the qualifying period began. Bryce was throwing some tennis balls about with the pit crew in the garage as a reflex exercise when he had a phone shoved into his face by another member of the crew.

"Hello?" he said as he picked it up.

"Bryce? It's Cleo. How are you doing?"

"I'm alright, thanks. You do know how to pick your moments, you know. Quali is in about 25 minutes." Bryce sighed.

"Oh good." Cleo said, sliding out of signal for a brief moment. "I'm just heading to Dannin on the train at the moment for another client, but I thought I'd check in. Do you know that you're needed back here in Dannin next week? You're supposed to be modelling for the new Sivaleinen collaboration. You know, the perfume?"

"I think it's an aftershave, but yes. I knew it was happening, I just didn't know the day. Thanks for letting me know. Why couldn't this have been an email?"

"No need to bark at me, Bryce. I'm just thinking of you." said Cleo. "We're hoping to get you out on some billboards across the region. You'll look like some sort of fictional spy, I think is the aim. Apparently if the photo campaign goes well, they'll want you for a television advert. How's your technical driving skill? Any good?"

"You can have a look in about 90 minutes. Add... 26 to my result and I'm that good. In the world."

"I hope I'm not adding much. I don't have that many fingers." Cleo said as she hung up the phone.

Bryce lightly tossed the phone back onto the side of the garage, before running his hands down his face.

"Everything alright?" asked a member of the pit crew.

"I think I need a new agent." Bryce laughed.

Race
Twenty-third isn't an ideal place to start a WGP2 race. It's certainly better than twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth, however. Bryce looked into his mirrors after lining up post-formation lap at Ilya Tsunopin and his teammate, Vaccinia Poxvirus, who made up the back row of the grid. Vaccinia had had a fantastic free practice, but something about the rain slowed down the WGP2 Motorworks Cars and caused them to fall a bit further to the back of the grid. Bryce had slid three places from his practice stint, but was determined to at least make them back up in his race.

The race was a tough one, with the fact that the rain looked like it was about to break into something fierce at any moment keeping the drivers on edge. Bryce got off to a strong start, taking the inside of Turn 1 and gaining a place, which he managed to hold as he flicked onto the racing line of Turn 2. The pack was tight on this part of the track, but the faster cars began to peel off a little after a couple of laps, with drivers finding Turns 11 and 12 difficult to navigate and costing them time as those in front of them sped off to Turn 13. Bryce at his best was able to make it up to P15, but his second stop of the day saw a slight delay due to issues with his front left wheel. The time delay, while slight, caused him to slip a few seconds behind and emerge in 21st. At that latter part of the race, his gap to 20th place Pande Putu Raka Ganesha was one that he could make up, but the five second and growing gap between 20th and the battle between Skiia Vialiv and Parveen Kulkarni was a bridge slightly too far for Bryce to cross and join the fray of.

As Bryce crossed the line in 20th, he set his mind forward to the sprint race. This circuit was definitely starting to click for him, and hopefully his sprint performance would be one he could be proud of, and free from pit crew issues.

The Valentians – Chapter 8 – A Nearly Cooked Goose Egg.

Moving on forward race after race, Angela realised that she was still not getting a point. That much was obvious enough, and it was even going up to the point where she was planning on doing something in honor of it. "Goose Egg Celebration - Let's celebrate the lack of points with an eggy dinner!" she said to herself, pacing left and right as the rest of the Valentians around her were analysing a few racing stats here and there. They could not find a lot of errors in the ways Angela drive; in fact, she was more or less doing pretty decently, and was improving ever so slightly thanks to the help of the Valentians that were with her. Marcus taught her all about the defensive driving, making sure that the others will not be able to overtake her or shunt her. Marcus was towering over Angela and her car as he explained a few intricacies in the garage, much to the slight fear and terror of the non-Valentian crew members seeing a 10-meter tall suit of armor with alien worms talking with a person inside controlling them. "Of course, it would have been a little unfair of me to suggest that the other drivers are cheats. I would never accuse them of such a thing," Marcus walked one step forward towards the car, giving it a slight bump on its tail, "However, there will be times - heat of the moment, if you will - that someone is bound to hit you, intentionally or otherwise. I know I am not exactly the most experienced of a driver, but I can show you a few things I have learned from the Valentians and the rest of the NSSCRA drivers back in the season."

And then there was Anastasia, who took a turn on the simulation and showed Angela a few lengths of ropes here and there. For someone who is from NSSCRA, Anastasia took a few good minutes to get used to and to be familiar with the controls. She wasn't used to having all of the controls on the steering wheel, and thus eventually gave up after a few laps of trying and set it to automatic. Only the breaking, acceleration, turning, and the most basic of functions are manual, while everything else was automated. Angela watched with curiosity in her eyes, taking down notes as Anastasia went around several laps. "Aggressive driving doesn't mean you have to push the other guy off the road," Anastasia started off, gripping the steering wheel of the simulation and then turning to look at her as she paused the race, "Out there, you will have to make sure that you are a presence to them. It is okay to take it slowly, but for me, I like to give them a bit of pressure and keep them on their toes. If they falter, or are in the pit stop, or anything else like that - you know you can then take over them easily. I know all of these sounded like obvious tips, but trust me, people tend to forget them."

And then came the race at Drummond Vale Circuit. Angela thought it's a bit funny that Adriana says "It looks like a very elongated and deformed man praying and giving its offerings. Appropriate for trying to please the luck deities, I suppose." Studying the track and after getting a bit of data and experience from the qualification, Angela was more or less ready to go. She was a bit concerned with the very frequent sharp turns, but other than that, she has no other problems other than her lack of experience compared to the rest of the drivers.

"Well, here I go! Wish me luck!" Angela exclaimed as she stepped into her firesuit, with Marcus, Jolyn, and Anastasia watching and tuning in from the lounge. Angela was excited, albeit a little intimidated still, by the race course and the rest of the drivers that she could see. Everyone was minding their own business, doing their last-minute fixing and tuning up to their vehicles, and then it was time to go. The Fireline staff and crew members radioed in on Angela, reassuring her, "Don't worry, you got this! We are still only at half the season and hey, improvement is well-preferred over a disastrous attempt at scoring points." Marcus told her about defensive driving, and Anastasia about driving aggressively, and so it was up to the Fireline team to reassure her and to ask her to drive carefully not just for the car but for her health.

And as she approached the last lap, Angela knew that she got something out of this already. "P8, Angela!" the crew shouted excitedingly into her earphones. It might not have been much, but it definitely was something. For this would be the very first time Angela got her point-finish, and her first point. "Well, 1 point," Angela thought to herself, "Better than the goose eggs, ahaha!" She took out her helmet, let her red hair feel the wind a little bit, and then pushed the car back into the garage with the help of the Fireline crew. The Valentians also gave her quite a congratulation as they always believed in "something rather than nothing." On top of that, news quickly spread around that Adriana got her very first win in the WGPC season, to which it wasn't a discouragement and something of jealousy for Angela. Rather, she congratulated Adriana in turn, while also telling herself that she will get there one day.

PARA to Expand Domestic Race Season

Bongkasa, Pemecutan - As the WGP2 competition still on the run, PARA use the momentum to redirect the Pemecutanian attention to domestic race competition. From its establishment in 2007, The National Race is only held in the 2 established race track in the country, Bongkasa and Pemogan Circuit. Each track held 4 race events in one season for a complete 8 events. But with the recent involvement of Pemecutan in international race competition, PARA thought to elevate the prestige of the country's domestic competition.

An internal meeting which was held last week resulted in the expanded of the domestic race from using 2 tracks into 5 tracks. Each track will held 2 race events for a complete 10 events in one season. But where are the other 3 tracks? PARA spokesperson, Agus Bratayudha, stated that the association will open bid for the establishment of a third track in the country to accommodate the domestic race expansion idea. While the other 2 tracks will use road race.

The idea of a road race is a bit new in the country but not in racing world. This introduction of a new kind racing track hopefully could attrack more people to watch the events.

The official has approached several cities for the road race event. Nilayam, Mengwi, Kesiman and both the capital and largest city, Pemecutan Puri and Ubung are on the list. While yesterday, PARA officially announced their project for a new race track establishment. Several parties have come forward stated their interest. Alam Jaya and Gajamina are two of the interested parties.

Although their idea is very interesting but it will took 2-3 years for completion of race track. They need a a plan B if the expansion will be held immediately.

LiteSpeed Mobile WGP2 Sprint at Baker Park, Drummond Vale Circuit, Commonwealth of Baker Park :: It was a weekend to forget for Tropicorp VilBev GP2 driver Skiia Vialiv who over the course of two racedays at the Drummond Vale Circuit came away with zero points taking a serious hit to her drivers championship aspirations. Teammate Ryden Solow from Beepee who came in as the Championship leader was unable to pad their lead and will retain a 10 point lead in the standings heading into the next round of action in Aji No Moto.

With the season having crossed over the half way mark and now heading confidently towards its latter stages the Tropicorp VilBev GP2 team retains a slight 2 point lead in the constructor standings over Nexus Racing whose drivers Edward Rousseau and Haru Jukkenna have demonstrated the most equivalent balance between two drivers on any team thus far just 7 points apart running 3rd and 5th in the current standings respectively.

After Valentian driver Angela Stella Tan Fang Ling earned her first point of the season for Fireline Academy in the Baker Part Sprint event there remain just four drivers and two teams on the grid that have yet to score points. Perhaps unsurprisingly the WGP2 Motorworks team and driver Bryce Yannec and Vaccinia Poxvirus remain without a point though Yannec impressed by putting the #87 Motorworks machine in the Top 15 at the finish of the Baker Park Sprint showing progress in the team. It was the EHF Motospiel team that looked weakest in the pack at Baker Park with Ahmad Syaqirin Rahman retiring after just five laps while Parveen Kulkarni was the lowest place driver to complete the race in 24th position. Rahman had shown spurts of promise behind the wheel of the #39 EHF Motospiel machine but a lack of reliability seem to be preventing the Sharktail based driver from fulfilling their potential in their debut WGP2 season.

The Baker Park Sprint was won by Aaron Deering of Viska White Unicorns in what must have been a bitter sweet moment for driver Sam Blaatschapen of Diarcesia. Blaatschapen, the official test driver for the Grand Prix Auto Pryfors Bilar Viska team on the World Grand Prix Circuit was bested to the line by Deering, Viska Racing's official test driver who ended up in the Viska White Unicorns seat after Blaatschapen was unable to back out of their pre-existing commitment to drive for the ENSADRINK TDDP team. While Blaatschapen was denied victory by Deering in Baker Park, it was an outstanding performance for the Hodori based team with Blaatschapen and teammate Chiruno Hakusoe of Hodori finishing out the podium positions in the teams best performance to date.

The World Grand Prix 2 Circuit now advances on to the Serizawa Racing Circuit in Aji No Moto where the local ANMARA outfit will look to secure enough points to close the gap in the Constructors championship where they currently trail Tropicorp VilBev GP2 by just ten points.

World Cup 81/82/83/84

As has been mentioned before, there are no proper racing facilities within a short drive of the Orange Cow base at the PRL Center in Haskins; Drummond Vale was over an hour away to the south and the next closest permanent road course was in Seymour to the east, about 90 minutes travel on the 450 expressway.
It's also been discussed how the team turned an unused section of parking lot with an additional asphalt covered area into their own private test track, which had been christened “Le Circuit de Peril” during the first season, but was usually just called 'the P' or 'outside', since it was literally next to the factory area.

Michael Lambert ran the race team the same way he ran the Performance Research Labs, his 'crazy' brainstorm that had made him (and his friend Ed O'Malley, along with a few others who showed faith in his idea) extremely wealthy; he was prepared at all times to do whatever was needed to protect what he considered his most important asset—his employees.

There was no such thing as “wasted money” to help his workforce do their jobs better, safer, with dedication & enthusiasm; he didn't hesitate to invest in making the track as safe as it could be: plastic barrels filled with water surrounded by tire bundles or energy absorbing wall systems on the outside of certain corners, contracting with off-duty firefighters/paramedics to be present on days when the track was in use (along with the necessary apparatus/tools needed if there was an emergency), hiring a full time safety officer to oversee procedures (who was also part of the PRL safety department as well), paying for everyone in the team to learn proper fire extinguisher use.

The track was understood to be the domain of the race mechanics and support personnel in so far as maintaining the integrity of the facility—four persons were deputized ahead of every session to walk the entire length of the racing line looking for foreign objects, the condition of the pavement itself, plus any other immediate concerns. The most junior mechanic or garage runner (the guys & gals who cleaned up, packed up, stepped up where needed, and were the unsung heroes of the race team) could put a halt to a test run by pointing out a potential problem.

The crew were also the arbiters and custodians of the naming of the track's corners and other sections; nearly everyone in 'front facing' part of the team (drivers, race engineers, Lambert himself) had been honored with a corner upon the occasion of some milestone or because of a particular association with a section on the course. Nick Unger--who'd been a test driver of the original first generation of the SOC car, splitting time with Jordan Crowe before the team had even been accepted to run in WGP2--had been popular with the crew, and was one of the very first honorees with Turn 3 being known as “Unger”, and JC had been bestowed with Turn 8 after being named the full time test driver; Pedro Carballal always looked tidy and quick through Turn 5, and was quite emotional when presented with his own corner, while Saki Kuyara had made it her obsession to conquer Turns 9 & 10, a quick double right hander, and credited JC when it became 'hers' (a slight change to the layout has meant that Turn 9 is a double right considered just a single corner complex now).

The results from Hessington Island and Lopinka meant that both Batu and Sammi were eligible for their own honor—both had taken pole position and Carter had taken the team's first ever AOGP win.

Ahead of the home race, there'd been discussion among the crew about which unnamed corners would be suitable for the young pair; Batu was 19 and Sammi was just a month past her 21st birthday when she won in Vilita, while Jordan and Nick were older—they'd competed against one another in several lower domestic formulas—at 24 & 23 respectively.
While the three Parkers had been part of the AOMC team, and had the common experience of racing in the various levels the made up the diver ladder, Tüvshinbayar was the outsider who already had a full season of WGP2 under his belt and was initially a bit reserved in his interaction with the others outside of the driving. To their credit, they reached out to the TJUN-ian with advice and tips about everyday living in the Commonwealth, a lot of knowledge about Drummond Vale (he'd only run on the Vale layout during his test, so when they began doing testing on the Championship course they all had plenty of personal experience to share) and embracing him into the team's close knit camaraderie.

Tuesday's medium fuel level track work on the Peril was cut a bit short when Vaughn Estes told Batu “box, box, box, tire change”.
He brought the car into the “pit lane” and one of the mechanics gave him the signal to cut the engine. “You can get out 'B', we're going to let Nick run now.”
Carter had been told she was going to run after Batu, so she was also standing by as the AOGP car was on the 'speed line'--the nearly 1 mile run that was used for straight line engine tests—when a host of people came out from the facility, including Lambert and Ed O'Malley and the other senior directors.

When everyone was gathered Kevin Ammaker, the Chief Mechanic, spoke up from atop the makeshift pitwall setup that was used.

“This is a big week and I know everyone is working hard to make sure that we will have the best possible performance from both teams. But we have one piece of important business to do right now so I will turn things over to the Pit Boss.”
Most of those present immediately began chanting 'PIT-BOSS, PIT-BOSS' as Jerry Oosthuizen stepped up; he was the rank & file mechanic with the most experience, nominally the spokesperson between Ammaker, Chief Engineer Paul Valentini and the rest of the management.
“The Orange Cow mechanics have made their intentions clear through a free & fair vote to honor the following persons with a corner named for them on this track. Edward O'Malley, step forward”.

Lambert had approached the crew about giving Ed his recognition, which was quickly realized to be a huge oversight; as the Chief Designer and Aerodynamicist, as well as being an investor in the team, his inclusion was a no-brainer.

“From this day forward, turn 12 shall be henceforth known as 'O'Malley corner' along with the rights to transfer said name to any future track.” A huge cheer went up as Ed received a hastily prepared certificate.
“Samantha Carter, step forward”. An even larger roar came from the crowd as Sammi stepped up with a look of shock on her face. “Owing to your victory from pole position for Orange Cow Racing, the complex that includes turn 10 shall be henceforth known as 'Sammi corner' along with the rights to transfer said name to any future track.” Sammi was visibly moved as anther loud cheer arose.

“Batu Tüvshinbayar, step forward”. On the surprise chart, Batu's expression was the one that showed the depth of emotion the announcement brought forward to the recipient; he hadn't really understood how much little successes like pole positions or podiums meant to a team like SOC.
“Owing to your pole position run at Hessington Island, turn 7 shall be henceforth known 'Batu corner' along with the right to transfer said name to any future track. Ladies & Gentlemen, on behalf of the mechanical & engineering departments, I present our newest Orange Cow heroes. Due to the circumstances, only the regular cafeteria lunch will be available but our honorees should be delivered to the head of the line.”

With that, Ed, Sammi and Batu were each hoisted up on the shoulders of several persons and carried into the PRL commissary.

The race weekend at Drummond Vale was a massive success for the Commonwealth Motorsport Federation; the track promoters, sponsors, vendors; cable channels CommSport 1 & 2, and of course the Orange Cow teams.

Friday drew a crowd of over 35,000 for practice and qualifying, while Saturday and Sunday each saw 60,000+ in attendance despite the on & off rainy weather; the SOC commercial department had made sure to have enough stock of cheap rain ponchos among the branded merchandise available for sale, which included affordable Scuderia and OCR hats & shirts; medium and higher end branded apparel offset by low price point collectables (keychains, ticket holder lanyards, pins, wrist bands, ear buds) as well as individual driver oriented items (all four drivers had deals where 30% of team merchandise sold with their name/likeness was pooled and split equally, while each of them were entitled to 20% of revenue generated by sponsors using their name/likeness).

Although JC and Batu were just beat out at the last moment from a front row lockout in qualifying, their 1-2 finish in Saturday's feature was received with wild spontaneous celebration, having been preceded by Nick Unger's pole winning run earlier in the day; the mostly orange clad crowd provided an impressive display for television viewers across the multiverse. Sunday's results were not as comprehensive, but still provided spectacle, as Unger and Sammi Carter came home behind race winner Gus Perry in the AOGP feature, followed by Crowe and Tüvshinbayar picking up additional points in the first WGP2 sprint event finishing in the top 8.

Monday evening following the weekend, Team Principal Mike Lambert arranged for the mechanics, drivers and extra staff—around 50 people in total—to have a small celebration at the Kingston Arms Hotel, which was not a hotel at all but a restaurant in what was formerly a traditional style inn; just light finger food and beer & wine were provided to celebrate the results at Drummond Vale.

“There's still a lot of racing ahead of us, a lot of points we can earn. We're right in the mix for the Constructors title in both series, and we've got a real opportunity for jumping into the Drivers title chase”. Lambert wanted to stress that the team was far ahead of where it had been at a similar stage last season.
“We need to keep focus on what's ahead of us. We've got the potential to bring both cars home in the points every time out, to have a legit chance to win more races. That's where attention to little things, the fine details can be the difference. Let's keep proving ourselves and how far we can go”.

Somewhere in Belle Haven, the evening after Sprint.

'Why though?'

When Ilya Vadimovich Tsunopin received a reminder from Dr. Balthazar Grey, his elderly manager, secretary and a master of all things that he's come to know in his life since age 6, that he's expected to be present at the Keyhole Lounge Gentleman's Club in south side of Belle Haven, Baker Park, Ilya groaned.

For one, Ilya preferred to rest after another difficult weekend on the racecourse. 24th at the Race, and 20th at the Sprint. Ilya thought to himself quickly, before trying to find a right response to give to his manager. It has not been the finest of last few weeks of his WGP2 as what originally started off as an awful sophomore race slump continued into the weeks thereafter. There were some highs and lows he recalled, as the flashes went back and forth and past him, and while there were some improvements this time, especially after some dreadful races, At this point in time, struggles have become more of a pattern than an outlier, and he would rather just rest and not think too much about what could have gone better, instead of recapping it over and over again with his supporters.

'Ilya Vadimovich, this isn't just for your own sake that we are going there. There are those who help us with our mission who would like to see you...'

'$%i94294! Sure, but could you have at least delayed things 'til, like I don't know, tomorrow? I'm sure we still have commitments in middle of the city to watch a Baker Parkian league match, or on a different match? I'm sure it'd be lot easier for you and I to do these on open outdoor setting than any-383r4ing-where else..'

Besides, Ilya didn't want this to be another business trip. There have been a lot of nightly meetings and events held in the VIP rooms of strip clubs over last six months since he turned legal, with the sponsors, old friends and colleagues all taking part in the festivities. Not that he minded the trips anyway - it is said from a famous 69Xer work of poetry that 'indulgences empower the weakest of men into decently potent ones and transform the strongest of men into otherworldly creatures' - but sometimes, he would prefer these occasions to be more...unique and personal. That's something that differentiated Ilya Vadimovich, an 18-year old brute, from the rest of his family.

'...&&#&ing hell. Give me a break. I'm *&%ing sure we can always arrange a different meeting with these people, without having to be interrupted from getting touchy-touchy. Come on, Dr. Grey...'

'And who is there to say that I'm the one enjoying all of this, Ilya Vadimovich? Listen, I was just as much of a pleasure-seeker as you were back in 1956...'

'Yes, and there's no. 49914^&ing. point. talking about past. Having a racing career's not about growing up. It has never been - I've seen so many crybabies and whiners twice my age here, back in Quebec and in our $#Y&#%&ing shithole of home country.'

'Alright, alright, alright. What is it that you want? I know you haven't had the best of days - if anything Bitten Heroes as whole struggled this time around. But we'll get back to it, and let's keep ourselves committed to what we have here. We aren't going to leave tonight or even tomorrow after all. We can stay here for a couple more days until you can figure out your own shit, amirite?'

The phone conversation continued for five more minutes, as heated conversations cooled down and finally cooler heads prevailed for both side of the phone. It took a bit more time for Ilya Vadimovich to persuade Dr. Grey, but at least he earned himself an additional hour before flying into the south side of Belle Haven's all-encompassing river. Dr. Grey, being a professional who's served in this family and the Manoda Corps. as far as anybody in their living memory's concerned, worked out logistics in order to get Ilya to The Keyhole Lounge on a different limousine from the team hotel, and Ilya would reassess his preferred use of soft tires in the hours leading up to it.

'Alright, I'll have a think about it,' answered Ilya, as he hang up the phone. There have been solid concerns raised about how Tsunopin's preference of soft tires, as they, while being superior on grips, tended to struggle more on recent tracks where their durability simply went down to the point of nonexistence. So while Ilya, being more of a street guy than anyone else, would prefer not to discuss those, something had to be done about them...

AK had been told by the ANMARA team personnel that the car this season is inferior to their competitors, essentially telling him to not expect any fight from the team in this season of the WGP2. Given that expectation, and having only started participating this season, it can be said that he would not expect any wins or points scoring coming into the way of the team or its drivers. However coming into ANMARA's home race at Serizawa, it was proven to be a "blatant lie", as he saw some competitiveness at some tracks, heck, even winning a race at Diarcesia's Elbej Historic Site Circuit.

He was talking to a Hispino engineer from Badai Angin Tim via social media, discussing whether AK would have a spot on the WGPC grid next season given he's already being groomed as one this season. Rod Gozum's departure from the academy at the end of last season put him probably too early in the spotlight but he was able to help the Filindo team this season by participating in test sessions and giving the test data to both their drivers. As a result, the team has been very competitive this season, leading both championships as the WGPC gang arrives in his home nation.

"Do you know, I've been hearing that Kyoko will return to WGPO open wheel next season. I don't know what it would mean to you but if I were you, I will start looking for WGPC seats next season." His friend said over the chat. AK had not heard anything from that news, but with the fiancee of Rusty in the ANMARA garage this weekend, it would not be good if she sees both ANMARA drivers struggling, as she is doing very well in AOCAR stock car series, and has made the playoffs.

"Let's see, but there are many spots in WGP2 this season, and probably the next. I would not want to jump to WGPC too early. Probably Rusty has one or two more seasons in his belt for Badai Angin, and maybe I can inherit his seat once he hangs up his helmet."

"I'd beg to disagree on that. I'd say you try to get a seat next season at the pinnacle of open-wheel racing and try to grow from there."

"If there are enough seats for next season." AK was adamant he wants to stay in the intermediate class next season.

"Oh, hi Louis. What's your situation?"

"My situation?"

"The race! I assume there is good news."

"There is! We won! Aaron won! What's more, Gus Perry also won his race in AOGP!"

"Gods, that's awesome. I thought it's gonna be bad."

"Actually, it could be a bit worse," Meissner said, "you know, we had a less-than-ideal feature race. Kyidawa was stuck in the back and Aaron had a mechanical scare pre-race. It was the first time I faced that much stress. Good thing it's behind us and the sprint race results speak for themselves."

"At least it was not a letdown. What about Sam?"

"Just behind Aaron at P2. Well on pace to overtake had she have more laps."

"I see. Congratulations to you and everyone in White Unicorns. It's good for a morale booster. Like here in PB, your team also had a few roadbumps at the start of the season, you said."

"Nothing too difficult, and thanks for the encouragement. I'm a technical guy, and still learning new things at the helm of a team, but I think we've jumped on some momentum. I think we all should be excited for the next events."

For Sam Blaatschapen, the sprint race lived up to its name: overtake as many drivers in front as the throttle and track location could allow. A podium finish with actual points granted was a major step towards a proving her abilities once she drives in WGPC. All that remained was a win. She was a little miffed that her teammate in the Diarcesian WGP3, Gus Perry got a win first before her, but she channeled her energies to finishing where she did in Drummond Vale. Finally, it seemed that ENSADRINK was finding its rhythm.

For the next race in Aji No Moto, the pressure would be indeed high. Sam and Chiruno would be expected to repeat the performances. In the former's opinion, the qualifying should be the key to achieving their objectives.

It felt good to have finally put a face and a name next to the mysterious "B" who had been busy putting up notes in his garage, and it also felt good to finally have his first ever race win in WGP2. Adonis Fitzpatrick could take some pride in the fact that it took him only five races or so to get his first win while his buddy William Archer had to wait until the last race of his one and only season in WGP2 to take the top step on the podium. Donny had always imagined what he would do when he was finally on the podium after having crossed the finish line ahead of all the other drivers on the grid, but when it finally happened, Donny found his mind going blank as the gravity of the moment sunk in for him. Because of this, he was pretty much just acting on instinct as first the national anthem of Abanhfleft played, and he sung the lyrics like he had always done back when he was in school and they had the flag ceremony every Monday. At least Donny had been to the podium a few times in the Coalition Grand Prix Racing Association (CGPRA) so he knew what to do with the champagne, but that didn't stop him from being unable to remove the cork from the bottle for a few seconds. That led to him getting drenched in the sparkly stuff before he could do the same to his companions on the podium, Alvis Kalvin Lacsamana and Ryden Solow. The bubbly would be hell to wash away from his firesuit, but at least it wasn't the elderflower substitute that was used in places where alcohol was not allowed. Now that was a right bitch to clean up.

The win, of course, called for a celebration between friends, and as soon as he was back in Abanhfleft his friends immediately called him to ask where he was going to treat them. Donny was more than willing to treat them out but he also wanted to keep it low-key so he chose a relatively unknown bar in Effelenendro to be their venue. While the place was unknown to most of the Effelenendro night scene, that didn't mean that it was seedy. All it meant was that Donny and his friends could celebrate his first WGP2 in peace without being potentially mobbed by adoring fans.

"Cheers!" said Connie Godin, raising her bottle of beer high. Donny and the two other women with them, Pauline Chavez and Missy Asuncion, followed suit. "To the first black and gay Fleftic WGP2 race winner!"

"Cheers," the others echoed before taking a sip from their beers.

"You know, Donny, I have to admit, when you said you were going to treat us after your first race win in WGP2, drinking wasn't really what I had in mind."

"What did you have in mind?" Donny asked.

"We thought we were going to eat, not drink," Pauline replied. "We thought you were going to take us to Maximo's or that Korean BBQ place, what was it called again? Lovely Baka or something like that."

"Whoa, Pauline, what do you mean, we?" Connie immediately retorted. "If I remember correctly, you were the only one wishing Donny would treat us to some Korean barbecue!"

"I just wanted to have a small get-together among friends, girls," Donny said. "What more can I ask for?"

"Ang kuripot mo talaga, Adonis," Pauline muttered. (You're such a cheapskate, Adonis!)

"Tell you what, tomorrow, we're going to eat as much as you want," Donny offered. "My treat."

"Don't encourage her, Donny," Missy said, but she was smiling even as she shook her head.

Donny had met the girls while they were all attending the University of Santa Magdalena. They were attending different colleges within the university but had gotten together through a common interest in music. Specifically, there was a "Battle of the Bands" going on and it had been Connie Godin's idea to form a band. Only three people showed up, but those three people were Missy Asuncion, Pauline Chavez, and Donny Fitzpatrick. Nevertheless, they were enough to form a decent band, and the four of them managed to get third place in the Battle of the Bands. The friendship between the four of them happened due to them spending so much time with each other.

"So, did you finally meet the guy who was leaving you those notes in your garage?" Pauline asked.

"Yeah, I did," Donny nodded.

"So how was he? What did he say when you talked to him?" Missy asked.

"He was all right," Donny replied. "A bit nervous when I went to talk to him. Said that it had a lot to do with his upbringing."

"Makes you wonder what kind of upbringing he had," Connie muttered.

"Yup."

Serizawa Racing Circuit, Serizawa, Aji No Moto

Konbini 24/7 WGP2 Race of Shibara

The Serizawa Racing Circuit is the premier racing track of Aji No Moto. Owned by the local automobile giant Kissan, the track is more of a type that will test the cars' engine power and overtaking opportunities, which are featured in the Kissan Straight, the Serizawa Complex leading up to The Bird's Beak, and the banked curb after the Widow's Peak turn that leads to the opening part of the Kismo Complex.

The track starts on a ~300 meter straight into the 130-degree turn at Turn 1, then speeds to the Asahi Kerb, before encountering another straight line leading to the Sugiyama Corner, more of a semi-sharp kerb before slowing further down to turns 4 and 5, known as The Complex. A bend then leads into the slowest point of the circuit, The Bird's Beak. The cars then power through the bend into another semi-hairpin, the banked Turn 7, before pacing through a series of sharp kerbs, Turns 8 and 9, in which the power of the car and the speed is important as they lead into the Kissan Straight. This straight is around ~850 meters and has a slight bank leading towards the Widow's Peak, which is a banked kerb leading to the technical section, the Kismo Complex. A sharp turn at turn 15 leads the cars into the start/finish line to complete the lap.

The track is one of the most forgiving one in the WGPC calendar, with the cars' engine power being tested more than the technical skill of the driver. The track itself presents many opportunities to overtake as it is wider than normal and usually have many run-off areas and gravel traps, to decrease chances of driver injuries. It is also one of the shortest tracks of the season at 3.526 kilometers.

The Konbini 24/7 WGP2 Race of Shibara
Round 6 of the fifth WGP2 season will shift from one Atlantian Oceania venue to another, as the paddock travels from Drummond Vale in Baker Park to the Serizawa Racing Circuit in Aji No Moto, making its return as a WGPO-sanctioned international venue since WGPC 16. The makeshift second round of that season due to Aelsh organizers pulling out of the WGPC weeks before the round saw current Badai Angin driver and then-MRT driver Rustom Ibuna clash with local driver and current AOCAR driver Kyoko Fujisaki, now his fiancee on the way to win his first, and so far his only win in WGPC.

The race at Serizawa is the second of three scheduled feature-sprint races in the calendar, after the race at Baker Park, and before the race at Circuit Grandeville in Lisander in a few months time. This will be the first time that the WGP2 category will race in this circuit.

OOC: Very short RP from me tonight as I have to go for a laptop shopping...

'Athan P11, Ilya P13...Solid day, much better on the race than last time.....but we can do better guys. One more round with Sprints tomorrow. Let's get it.' Ilya heard his team principal, Amy Graad, addressed Ilya Vadimovich Tsunopin and the team over the radio after what has been the Bitten Heroes' most consistent finish since their first race together in Buckhaven, The Licentian Isles.

'Bravi, Bravi, Braivissimi,' answered back Ilya on the radio, as he finally felt some relief in his bloodstreams. The endless waves of relief. That's certainly how Ilya Vadimovich, the 18-year old bastard, was feeling, as he closed his eyes for once. The initial excitement of the sixth-place finish in Buckhaven were quickly replaced by massive disappointments in Diarcesia, Aboveland and Baker Park, where Ilya and the team really fell into the endless laps of funk that seemed more like a drive in the Inferno Abroad and Wide than a WGP2 race.

Thank fuck. Let's go get this shit,Ilya swore back at himself, as he continued to hear words being exchanged between Amy and Athan Lille, his teammate. While neither driver finished high enough to finish could have easily given up, nobody could deny that there's a bit more optimism floating around the team this time around. A slightly more experienced driver than Ilya himself, Athan Lille had come out to a strong start, finishing second in podium in Buckhaven and then seventh place in Diarcesia. But his recent struggles coming up short on last two races, have made things slightly uneasy for the team.

At least this time both had worked something out though, and all Ilya Vadimovich could say about it was to just keep on fighting for improvements. There's still one more race, a sprint race, tomorrow to ride and die with gallantry, and he was down for this challenge.

Kyidawa had not managed pull off any miracles at the sprint race in Baker Park, but he still got swept up in the festive mood as the team celebrated Aaron's win, and pretty soon he was dancing on a table, trying to get his young teammate to join him. An engineer grabbed his laptop off the table to make sure it didn't get stepped on or knocked on the floor. He needn't have worried, though. Kyidawa wasn't THAT much of a drunk idiot, at least not when he was celebrating other people's victories.

Aaron was distracted by his phone and refused to climb up on the table. Just like Chungba, Kyidawa thought. Chungba Thapa had been his old teammate back home in Sherpaland. Chungba had always been the more serious one; and Kyidawa reminded Chungba when he needed to lighten up.

On the plane to Aji No Moto, Kyidawa thought about how he and Chungba had worked together back home, and he realized he needed to be more serious. At the track he was quite conscientious about doing his exercises, studying the track, and practicing carefully. He pushed the car hard enough to get a feel for how it would race, but not recklessly hard like he'd done in Baker Park.

The weather had been cloudy threatening to rain all day, and the rain finally arrived just as they were getting ready to start qualifying. Kyidawa was lucky enough not to get caught in the worst downpours -- for any of the four times he took the track for the different rounds of qualifying. It was still wet and sloppy when he had his turn, but he managed to find the right balance of slowing down enough to cope with the rain, but not enough to be uncompetitive.

He started the race 2nd and finished 5th. He was glad that he was able to pick up some points, but a little disappointed that he hadn't been able to capitalize on his good starting position to score another podium finish.

Serizawa Racing Circuit, Serizawa, Aji No Moto

Konbini 24/7 WGP2 Race of Shibara

The Serizawa Racing Circuit is the premier racing track of Aji No Moto. Owned by the local automobile giant Kissan, the track is more of a type that will test the cars' engine power and overtaking opportunities, which are featured in the Kissan Straight, the Serizawa Complex leading up to The Bird's Beak, and the banked curb after the Widow's Peak turn that leads to the opening part of the Kismo Complex.

The track starts on a ~300 meter straight into the 130-degree turn at Turn 1, then speeds to the Asahi Kerb, before encountering another straight line leading to the Sugiyama Corner, more of a semi-sharp kerb before slowing further down to turns 4 and 5, known as The Complex. A bend then leads into the slowest point of the circuit, The Bird's Beak. The cars then power through the bend into another semi-hairpin, the banked Turn 7, before pacing through a series of sharp kerbs, Turns 8 and 9, in which the power of the car and the speed is important as they lead into the Kissan Straight. This straight is around ~850 meters and has a slight bank leading towards the Widow's Peak, which is a banked kerb leading to the technical section, the Kismo Complex. A sharp turn at turn 15 leads the cars into the start/finish line to complete the lap.

The track is one of the most forgiving one in the WGPC calendar, with the cars' engine power being tested more than the technical skill of the driver. The track itself presents many opportunities to overtake as it is wider than normal and usually have many run-off areas and gravel traps, to decrease chances of driver injuries. It is also one of the shortest tracks of the season at 3.526 kilometers.

The Konbini 24/7 WGP2 Race of Shibara
Round 6 of the fifth WGP2 season will shift from one Atlantian Oceania venue to another, as the paddock travels from Drummond Vale in Baker Park to the Serizawa Racing Circuit in Aji No Moto, making its return as a WGPO-sanctioned international venue since WGPC 16. The makeshift second round of that season due to Aelsh organizers pulling out of the WGPC weeks before the round saw current Badai Angin driver and then-MRT driver Rustom Ibuna clash with local driver and current AOCAR driver Kyoko Fujisaki, now his fiancee on the way to win his first, and so far his only win in WGPC.

The race at Serizawa is the second of three scheduled feature-sprint races in the calendar, after the race at Baker Park, and before the race at Circuit Grandeville in Lisander in a few months time. This will be the first time that the WGP2 category will race in this circuit.

Chapter 11: Nightmares

Adab City

Even in his sleep the revolting smell of burning flesh and burning metal kept returning to him. The columns of smoke rose to block the blue, starry night, the fire scaring away those who dared to approach. From some distance he could hear what he thought to be screams, even though he couldn’t see who was screaming. In the end those screams – or what he thought to be screams – were drowned by the sirens of the fire truck rushing towards the scene of the accident as the fire burned on. The firefighters jumped off, pulling the hoses and spraying water.

Still the sirens grew louder – and louder, and louder – until he covered his ears with his hands, feeling that his head was about to burst open. From where he was watching he couldn’t move, couldn’t look away, a prisoner in his own dream, forced to witness that thing which he tried so hard to forget.

He dropped one hand from the ear and extended it, reaching out to the scene of the accident, the fire a small ball of fiery light in the horizon. And that was all he could do. Watch them burn again. And again. And again. The sirens had receded somewhat, their ghastly sound drifting away into the quiet night. The water was overwhelming the fire. Good was overcoming evil. But tonight, water – the essence of life – couldn’t prevent two human beings from dying.

“Hah!” his eyes came open and he leapt onto his feet. The world was dark. Entirely dark. So dark he couldn’t even see himself in the darkness. He knew he was… somewhere, but where? He would’ve liked to say he couldn’t see from one end to another, but there wasn’t even any end to recognize. It was just… dark.

He was on his feet and he wasn’t falling. So he knew at least there was a floor under his feet. He tapped his feet – tap, tap, tap – and sure enough his feet clashed against… something. An object. A colorless, invisible expanse of an object. A floor that he couldn’t see. There was no sound. But there was a floor. There was something. He wasn’t falling through space.

Uneasily he began to trudge forward. Then again. And again, now at a slightly faster pace. Soon he was walking, if rather slowly and tentatively, making his way through this totality of darkness, walking as far as his feet would carry him, walking towards the end that was never in sight. He increased his speed, every step armed with greater urgency, until he found himself jogging. Jogging, jogging, jogging with ever-greater pace… until finally he was running. Running, running, running! Running in search of the end to this darkness.

Running towards the light that never came.

“HAH!” his eyes came open and he raised his head off the pillow. He shook his head rapidly, one hand wildly tracing the length of the bed, the other scrambling to reach the switch and grasping it until the light burst into his room over his head, nearly blinding him as he regained his senses.

Now he was in the real world. He knew that for sure. He breathed heavily, leaning back on his bed, turning his head towards the door hoping that he hadn’t woken up Mr. al-Taghlibi or the servants. Eyes wide open, his head slid down the headboard and back onto the pillow, hands outstretched over the blanket.

Why is my life like this? What have I done? Not only were the race results not coming, but the nightmares kept coming back to him. At home, on the track, across all corners of the world, everything was making him miserable.

As he lay there he remembered all the old-fashioned platitudes people told him. His parents, Mr. al-Taghlibi, Aida. Be a good person, do good, be kind to yourself and others around you, treat others as you want to be treated, always try to find joy in your life whatever happens.

Whatever happens, always try to find joy in your life.

“Yeah,” Sal muttered slowly. “Yeah, that sounds right.”

But what if there was no joy to be found?

“I’ll create it myself, I guess.”

He reached out for his phone beside his pillow and began rattling off a series of text messages.

Anyway, I’m gonna buy some extra winter clothing for you and your family and I’ll give it to you before the next race. I mean it can be cold over there in Pridnestrovia right? No, don’t turn it down.

“Right, so, uh, sorry for being a bit late, had to attend to the call of nature,” Sal said, smiling, pushing the door open to the sight of the other drivers assuming their seats.

“So, people,” he continued, as eyes began to turn to him. “I don’t know how long I’m gonna be here in WGP2 – I mean I’d love to continue next year, but, hey, you never know – so just in case – I’ve decided to, uh, give you some mementos as a mark of my respect and affection for you all!

“If you go to the UrGa garage, in this big box there should be 25 white mugs in it, one for each of you, with the words ‘With love, from Sal’. Yeah, I know it sounds cringe, but hey. Those mugs are high-quality, made by some of the best craftsmen in Adab. Oh, and there should be 25 sets of headphones too! Perfect for listening to music wherever you are. Speaking of music, you should listen to Red. Tay-Tay’s version, of course. It’s my favorite album right now and there’s some bops in there.

“Oh, and, uh, anyway I’m giving away my old vacuum cleaner for free. There’s only one though haha. So, uh, if anyone here maybe needs a vacuum cleaner just tell me and I’ll take care of the shipping. But if you don’t need it that’s fine, I’ll just give it to my neighbor I guess.”
