What is the state of Norrigan at the moment in terms of post storm, functioning and support? I feel Oscotia could offer a range of services from aid to government support.

There's also a couple of small hydroelectric dams in the works; I'm planning on posting for their completion soon.

This will make things a bit less certain in the nation and trouble the young democracy - does it choose stability for a bit longer or does it prioritise the stringency of the election process in the nation? This will have effects on Noa’s new Community Party which is trying to gain some ground yet obviously can’t if there are no elections.

Hm. Time to think of how Ioudaia will respond to that...

Okay after a brief chat with Ainslie on Discord. Oscotia is willing to help aid Norregan. Perhaps even a diplomatic mission from Her Majesty Queen Charlotte IV to win hearts and minds. As for the internal aid needed, I will need further info on the current status of Norregan.

How is Atolla's government set up? Is there a legislature and courts?

How well is the Atollan judicial system holding up IC? Ioudaia is leaning towards finding somebody with Atollan legal standing -- that is, anybody eligible to vote -- to bring the question of putting off their elections to whatever their highest court or constitutional court is.

it's doing fine - it's rebuilt and it's a pretty average strength court for a superior court... its independent but its doesnt wield the same sort of power the ahnslen ones do... it can strike down things and rule them unconstitutional though for sure if it wishes to and yes a random on the street would probably work. keep in mind noa may want to join himself to that lawsuit though...

Ainslie and I agreed on a system to run this election on. It's explained and recorded here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/15TN ... sp=sharing

Basically, good PR things (a photo op, a rally) add to the candidates opinion odds while negative things detract them. Kelau gets a built in bias since he founded the country and is the incumbent. I roll opinion polls once a week (sunday) starting today. Community party didn't change anything this week despite Kelau doing bad things, but that's fine. I like this.
I'd be a real socialist if I thought it could actually work.

i mean why not - altera offers safety and comfort, altera inevitably would have to assist the recovery effort... it'd make sense to have a reunification movement i think

yes, I need to roll them. It'll be based off the old stuff since nothing has happened yet

Update: Fuckers didn't change anything. 2 for Cp and 2 for Kelau. Election odds are still 1:3 :(

By "old stuff", you mean last week's posts? 'cause Atolla City now has reliable electricity, which definitely didn't have after the storm, and I don't think had didn't have it beforehand... and Kelau got a TV spot "switching it on". Should get him some good PR.

I totally forgot about your damn dam.

So it's now 1:4 since the added one made him win the poll

So the election is a two-horse race?

That doesn't seem very ... democratic.
What happened to the People's Alteran Liberation Front? :(

Unless somebody objects, I'm going to play the spy-vs-spy routine of Ioudaia's intelligence services looking for "Norregan" backers of Noa for laughs. Because real tradecraft is hard to write and dull; and TWI could use some comic relief from its usual deadly seriousness.

Weren't registered as parties prior to this, I don't think. Type up some history and an estimation of how popular they are and what their beliefs are and they'll be added. But atm, these are the two being rped

I was joking about those parties in particular; in general I think the party (perhaps named something like the "Alteran Solidarity Party" or "Reform Altera"; something like that, would only be a minor party since 2016. But, perhaps they'd grow in popularity in recent times following the Rains - independent government has failed - times under Alteran leadership was better - etc etc.

I'll decide on a name and write up a post here with their name and history.

Commonwealth and Unionist Party (commonly known as the Commonwealth Party)

Founded by Atollan businessman and native-born Lolan Cowell, the Commonwealth and Unionist Party was founded in 2010, as a political party directly supporting the continuation of direct rule of Atolla from Altera (though with local leadership). As independence grew increasingly likely in the run-up to 2016 and the implementation of a referendum, the party continued to soften its support for Alteran rule - focusing more on continued Atollan membership of the 'Alteran' Commonwealth of Republics. However, following independence being granted in 2016, the party shifted back to its routes - pushing for heightened ties with the 'Alteran' Commonwealth; though hinting at a possible future referendum for Atolla to gain statehood once again within the Alteran Republics.

The C.U. Party has gained popularity amongst traditional conservative voter-base; mainly amongst elements of the traditional-minded Middle and Working class, with around 15% of the population's vote.

Also, apologies for the triple post; but what is/was the state of infrastructure in Atolla?
Judging by some of the posts, it seems Atolla was some impoverished backwater - which wouldn't quite tie in with being a state under Alteran rule. What RL equivalent could Atolla be compared to?

I'm happy to accept other people's comparisons, as so far I've been very hands off with the IC and OOC posts thus far.

As for "who", it would probably be regular Belanticans who have interests in Atolla, and a small group within the Belantic government who wants to keep the country relatively stable.

Yeah, didn't think about that... umm... the capital Atolla City was okay - similar to Vanuatu. Although vulnerable, like Vanuatu is, of going multiple steps back pretty quickly. Capital went those steps back... However, outside of the city it would have always been pretty backwaterish (I'd imagine even under Alteran rule too). Power's back on, water should be restored... in the capital things are getting close to where Fiji is now thanks to all the international aid.

How would you canonise this? Would it be something through the Rains IC, dealt with in the news thread, or somewhere else?

Ah okay, I'd be onboard with that; not ideal - but I work with a fairly successful capital with an underdeveloped rural economy. Something that would change if rejoining the Confederation was successful
