[Abandoned] Declaration on Internet Safety

Postby Terra Animo » Tue Nov 09, 2021 5:55 pm

Declaration on Internet Safety

Security Council,

Addressing the multitude of dangers of the internet,

Defining some of the previously mentioned dangers as scam pop-ups, identity theft attempts, and malicious viruses,

Recognizing the incredibly complex legal statutes surrounding these topics and the multitude of failed GA proposals regarding the issue,

Shying from the idea of attempting to legally abolish these practices,

Yet cognizant that the dangers of the internet still need to be addressed,

Yearning to lessen the amount of people victimized by organizations and individuals of ill intent across the internet,

Wishing to inform all peoples who belong to nations of the World Assembly of the following precautions which can be taken to avoid being taken advantage via the internet,

1.Being hyper aware of whom you share any banking information with,

2.Being prudent when deciding whether or not to open attachments sent to you via email from email addresses you do not recognize,

3.Being weary of ever granting “remote access” of any personal device to anyone you do not personally know,

4.Being cautious about whom you share any personal information with, such as one's legal name, address, place of work, or government issued I.D details (if applicable to one’s nation),

Hereby recommends that WA member nations share this information, as well as any other useful information or advice regarding the protection of oneself when using the internet.

Glad to see you haven't rushed to submit this like you did the one about drinking water.

Why do you believe this is best suited for an SC Declaration rather than a GA proposal?

Again, something more suited in the GA. Not every concept is worthy of an SC declaration you know.

I have looked over many of the previous GA drafts on the issue of internet safety and observed that the vast majority of them were shut down. Enforcing wide-sweeping laws regarding internet safety is incredibly difficult, as evident by the fact that scams and such are so prevalent in the real world, and feel as if attempting to tackle the issue is borderline impossible. Therefore, I feel as if a PSA of sorts is better suited to address the issue.

I feel as if this is rather clearly written as a PSA of sorts, and is in no way binding, as it is, again, not meant to be. If a PSA regarding hippopotamuses can not only reach quorum, but also be passed, it seems rather perplexing to me that a well-written (which I am not currently claiming this document to be) PSA regarding internet security would not be worthy of SC approval.

Is this meant to be a PSA for the player base?

No, for the citizens of WA nations. I suppose I could throw the word citizens somewhere in the document to ensure it is not misunderstood to be meta-gaming.

I see that you’ve decided to put writing actual GA legislation into the “too hard” basket and instead have drafted another very poorly written declaration.

And you’ve an obvious typo in the title of your opening post.

Hard against.

If it is meant to be for the citizens of WA nations directly, then this something that is more under the purview of the GA.

In the GA, you have more opportunities to address that issue, and a declaration simply doesn't do anything compared to GA legislation.
