A Harbour for Weary Souls (IC, Open)

Postby Ridderli » Sat Nov 06, 2021 5:18 am

Hello and welcome to the IC of A Harbour for Weary Souls!
Please apply and be accepted on this OOC before posting here! Thanks!

Broodeheim, Ridderli, Old Town Harbour.
Sunna Fischli.

It was reasonably early in the morning, shortly after six o'clock a.m., dawn having just passed. And it would be a beautiful day: Not only was there no school, because Saturday, but I also didn't have work, because vacation days. So, I could enjoy the Broodeheim Harbour Festival.
And what a magnificent turnout it was: There was the Aurelia, with the Princess she was named after aboard, MRNS Libertas looked magnificent next to the Pfeilfisch, Hurscht Fisheries had placed several vessels on display, the Brettenwaldian Royal Yacht CSV Amnat et Gloria was docked along a quay, there was an ancient-looking tanker at one of the wharfs, the Umitsune from Okunarutsuru was a wholly alien shape in the sea of masts, which dominated the Old Town Harbour right now.
There was even a paddle wheel steamer, the Yuzu!
I knew, that my blue eyes sparkled as I walked along the promenade – there were people out and about already, some to work, but many to enjoy the day like I would. My short, blonde hair was played with by the wind.
There was no official start to the festival, large speeches would not be given, or rather had been given at the Great Dinner aboard the Broodeheim-Isbert, where all the Captains and (if present) owners of the vessels participating in the festival had been invited. The guest of honour had been Princess Aurelia of Kyrenaia, on a short state visit to restore her public image after the disastrous breakup she had with her now ex-girlfriend Marcella Villa. At her side had been another familiar face, her former-now-again-boyfriend Atif Qalb (who she had broken with in favour of Marcella).
It paid to have a Mother interested in gossip.
Anyway, the closest thing to a formal opening was, indeed, the dawn – and I couldn't help but smile as two exhibits of the Seefahrtsmuseum Broodeheim (a marine museum) told me, that it was precisely 6:15, for aboard the two museum ships RRS Brise and RRS Zugs, they raised the flags with trumpets and fanfare.
Traditions needed to be upheld, even on museum ships.
I listened to the Naval March with half an ear, in a few minutes, the entire thing would be over anyway. My plans for today were getting breakfast at a stall I knew, eat it, maybe even while walking, look at the yachts of the rich an famous, maybe even do the tour aboard the Wellenreiter or the Aurelia or the Libertas or the Fascination (or maybe even two or three or all four), have lunch, go inside the Broodeheim Harbour Concert Hall for the concert of Krageelen macht Laune! and due to bad weather, maybe stay for Aenlin Katz (or go out again for the performance of the Gryffen, an aerobatics team, I was not sure yet), have dinner, maybe even with a nice lad I might meet, and then watch the evening programme. There was a 20s-Gala set aboard the Fascination, which I hoped to be able to attend, but if not, the crew of the Marcharnnau would be giving a concert.
Another event today was a Chokanna-Kata Showmatch, but that didn't really get me all that excited. It was basically Sensha-Do, a sport my cousin was into, but with boats – as I didn't like the sport involving tanks, I was not too keen on the sport involving armed boats. My cousin was most likely up already, though, anticipating the great event.
A pair of tourists crossed my path, walking their dog. The canine, who seemed to be the jolly, curious sort with where he smelled and how happy he looked about it, was on a leash held by the woman, a beautiful blonde with blue eyes, while her other half was a tall guy with brown hair and brown eyes. What made them stand out as tourists was their olive skin.
I smiled at them, greeted them, they greeted back, we went along...
...wait, hang on.
Wasn't that...?
I stopped and turned my head. The blonde was laughing at something her boyfriend told her.
Nah.
Anyway, my cousin was very much into the sport and the guest team of the Nanko Girls' High School from Okunarutsuru – not realizing, that their youngest member was somewhere in her seventies. The joys of eternal life, I guess, but I knew them from school. They were students, too, and had to be taught somewhere while here, so why not at my school?
They were pretty cool.
And what was pretty cool, too, was the view! No line in front of my favourite stall, a bus stop nearby. The Harbour Festival could start!

S.S. Fascination. Enroute to Broodeheim. November 6, 2021

A large silhouette cruises through the ocean, a silhouette that shares a history that is over 100 years of service. It is an old ocean liner that goes by the name the SS Fascination. Once known as the RMS Empress of Russia, the SS Fascination was once the flagship of The Pacific-Oriental Steam Navigation Company, which changed hands to The Cartune Isles Transportation Company, The United States Navy, back to the CITC, and finally to the Jones-Williams Ocean Line Company until sold in the 1960s to the newly formed Cartoon Maritime Historical Preservation Society who has maintained the ship as a museum ship on the port of Gallagher, Port Dickson.

Though as it was a museum ship, it was still ship shape and capable of being sea going herself due to the fact that the society did a tremendous job maintaining her, including the engine rooms. After a few test runs around Cartoonia, it set sail to Broodeheim in Ridderli for a festival. It was a good thing to for the society, to raise more funds to continue on maintaining old vessels as artifiacts of history and attractions to their lands.

The ship itself was a marvel of, in those days, modern Cartoon ingenuity. After being purchased from the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company, she was gutted and refitted into a luxurious ocean liner of the 1920s with a Turkish bath (a hammam) and a Japanese hot spring (an onsen) along with a theater that showcased the latest silent pictures and the ship’s own band. And it was complemented by the conversion from coal to oil, being the most efficient and “clean” ocean liner to sail in the fleet. And of course, the bar and dance hall, which was one of the greatest selling points of 1920s prohibition. Once the airplanes took over, she was sold off to the historical society that has preserved her ever since.

In the past, the ship was led by many captains in her day, including the famous commodore of the fleet, Captain Naofumi Iwatani. Today, it is helmed by a former naval vice-admiral of the different wars Cartoonia fought in, Gerald Franklin Rothbart III, who was the son of a former Chief Officer. On the bridge, He and a few other sailors were controlling the ship through its controls, which were still in good condition and working order. The helmsman takes the steering wheel, the ship cutting through the calm waves. They were making good speed, racing to the harbor on its own steam. The ship’s wireless room is still operable, but the ship has inside a modern radio room for instant communications with other ships. Everything is calm at the moment, but the ship will soon be full of international tourists in the harbor.

The one to overlook the operations inside the ship is a young woman, Odyssia Katamara, currently a captain of a cargo ship in the maritime business, she is also the current chairperson for the voluntary group that is the Cartoon Maritime Historical Preservation Society. She had created plans for the itinerary for the ship during its time at the festival. The museum is open all day, but there are plans for sail bys around the sea where the tourists can get a glimpse of what life was like for the passengers at sea, as well as spectate up close of a Chokana-Kata demonstration (of course out of range of the warships), a restaurant service which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner from the menus of the ship’s day. One of the evenings there will be a 1920s themed gala of which more funds can be raised for the continued preservation of their fleet.

Getting close to the harbor, Captain Gerald decided to pull the ship’s horn to signal their arrival, also to get a harbor pilot to send them to where ever the ship can be anchored for tours. Odyssia walks up to the captain from below deck.

“Ahoy there Captain Gerald!” shouts Odyssia. “I assume that everything is in tip-top shape?”

“Hello, Ms. Katamara” Gerald replies, “I say that everything is alright at the moment. The radio room is beginning communications with the harbormaster. We hope the harbor pilot comes aboard soon, of course, so we can rest these sea legs of ours”.

“As expected of a retired vice admiral. You are just as hearty as Captain Kidd… well, I never met the guy nor seen the movie”. Gerald laughed.

“Ah, I’m just a hearty sailor. It’s the sea life for me, and the joy of serving country and company, and to Hell with the pay”. Gerald look through his binoculars, spotting the harbor in sight. “So, Ms. Katamara, any plans for this ship during the festival?”

“Well, we plan on sail bys through the island, restaurant and museum services, I’m still on the fence of getting this ship out spectating the Chokana-Kata demonstration, but of course, towards the end of our time here, we will be hosting a gala, like the times of the Roaring Twenties. To raise funds of course”.

“Ah. Well, I let you back to your work. And I’ll of course get back to mine”.

“Rodger that captain”. Odyssia leaves to the grand foyer of the ship, leaving the captain to his duty. It’s been years since this girl stretched her legs on the ocean, and she was a sight to behold. Once they have arrived at the dock of which they were assigned to by the harbormaster and the harbor pilot, Captain Gerald takes a look around from the bridge of the other ships in their vercinity. Some of them more older than their ship or so it seems. There was a paddler-wheeler flying an ensign from their allies AHSCA, another one looked like a steamer from the Victorian era flying the ensign of their friends from Abetton. A few yachts, warships here and there. It would seem that this would be an interesting week.

"Well, I will see myself out. Would like to see the harbor and a few ships out here before a few sail bys and the competition. First Officer Willmington, take control. I fought anything would happen when we are not out in the open ocean". The officers laugh.

"Of course sir" First Officer Willmington replies. Captain Gerald walks down to the grand foyer of the ship which is currently used as the entrance to the ship and the museum. Meeting with Odyssia who was getting a drink of habanero rum from behind the counter, only served to customers per special request.

"Hello Ms. Katamara. I'll be taking my shore leave, I want to look around the port. You know, relive my time in the navy".

"Of course captain".

"I'll be back by dinnertime, but I can always come back early if need be"

"I'll be sure to call you, so... drink up me hearty! Yo-ho!" She finishes, raising her shot glass of Habanero Rum.

"Yes, drink up!" Gerald replies before leaving the ship for the port city of Broodeheim, while Odyssia finishes her drink, and waits for tourists to waltz into the ship, exploring its rich history, dining at its restaurant. Sharing the history of what the ship has to offer. Near the information desk/cashier, there is a billboard, a price for some of the things offered to patrons.

The Mother Daughter Duo

Ships ships ships everywhere and not a plane to fly.... So young Uzume thought taking a look out onto the harbor and well-- Errr well okay, Uzume wasn't much of a writer, acting was her specialty. Well still, she took in the sights of all the ships that were gathering for the festival. Actually, she and her mom had been here a few days, they left early to avoid a typhoon landing in Katase, by the sound of it, it certainly did dump a lot of rain, caused some flooding but thankfully no casualties, that's always good, would it interrupt her future TV project? Time would have to tell on that one for now, best enjoy the vacation, well for her it was a vacation for her mom on the other hand....

"Sawako, I've gone over the terms three times already with them, it's high time they pay up what I'm worth if they want to keep me around for the sequel." That was her mom, Maaya nosily reminding her agent back home about an ongoing deal for pay. Maaya was a long storied and respected actress, a darling of the general public and the various awards boards out there. "Listen I want this deal hammered out by the end of this week or I'm walking away. You tell them I already have four new offers that are willing to pay....good fine, I'll be looking forward to hearing from you." Hanging up her phone she let out a rather frustrated sigh, so did Uzume who just looked at her mom disappointed. "Something wrong, Uzume?"

"Mom, I thought this was supposed to be our time together, just us but you've been on the phone more times than I can count."

"I'm sorry dear, it's just I've been trying to finish up this deal and ---" She sighed when Uzume was right, she was right. "No, you know what, you're right. I promised you and I would spend time together and enjoy our time together and here I've been just yapping away." Maaya quickly typed something out on her phone, a text back to her agent saying no further calls just get it done and she'd worry about it when she got back. "There, phone goes off." She stuffed it into her purse "And now, just you and me, sweet."

"Mom, I'm sure they'll agree just give them time, like you said they always play these games but you're the one who packs them in."

"Gee, did I raise such a smart girl or what? See, I knew you living with me was the best way." She patted Uzume's head.

"Thanks mom, I love you too but really do you have to passively slight daddy like that?"

"Sorry sorry, I know that bothers you and I should get along with him for your sake at least."

Yes, like many in a high pressure world, sadly Maaya's marriage didn't last long, long enough to give her the apple of her eye, Uzume at least. Her husband, Uzume's father, was a CEO of a rather large company in Katase. Didn't matter to Uzume what they thought of each other, they were both her parents and she loved them, she just opted to live with her mom because well acting together meant being close to her instead of an empty house all the time, empty save for the high probability of servants her father would employ to be at her beck and call if needed and they certainly were when she visited him.

"Thanks mom."

"All right, well today's a new day and the start of this whole thing, so what to do first?"

Actually, this trip was a bit of work related for Maaya, her next major project (not the one she was just arguing over pay for) was to be set aboard a ship so this was a bit of research on top of just being a nice trip to take with her daughter. Uzume flipped through a bunch of phamphlets she'd collected about anticipated ship exhibits, some had tours all day, some had them for a limited of time. A ship from neighboring Abetton was expected, that'd be good, a show of camaraderie of neighbors, a ship from AHSCA, also something of a neighbor rather close (relatively speaking) to Katase. Cartoonia too? Wow that was a few from the region of Greater Dienstad, represent! Wow the Aurelia the ship named for the Kyrenaian princess that launched a rather tense drama? Exciting, too exciting, Uzume couldn't chose just yet.

"Nothing yet you want to see?"

"Oh well there's a lot."

"Mmm well, let's walk around a bit, see what's around, I'm sure something will catch our eyes. We got all day don't we?"

"Right!"

Actually for being actors, you'd think they were in a period piece given they were both dressed in kimono, something largely out of favor in most parts of the world where the garment had tradition, save for special occasions but Katase was pretty old fashioned. Old fashioned but still had modernity and globalism buried with in it. Just as it was common to see women like them looking like they were from a century back, it was just as common to see someone who looked like any one else in this day and age, there wasn't any laws or customs (at least none on the national level) just a pride in the old ways. These two Katasian women, weren't sailors or mariners, just a couple of tourists here to see the age of sail come back to life again.

SS Yuzu

Dawn rose on the beautiful harbor fittingly named, Old Town Harbour, which certainly looked it's name, a place steeped in a lot of history and tradition and culture probably. So much would have to be seen and done here and so many ships it was exciting for the mariners of the Yuzu a curiously old but new paddle wheel steamer. She wasn't a museum piece or a historical tour site, or a recreation but am active functional passenger ship to carry people to and fro. AHSCA never didn't see much value in trying to prop up a civil aviation industry. But now she had history all right, as four years ago a routine voyage turned into a maritime nightmare for all involved. Some were traumatized enough to say on dry land the rest of their lives, others took it as unusual but just another part of the job and some even took inspiration from it to become a sailor. Yuzu Kotobuki a still young but adult otherwise and mature fox girl from Animalpolis, fittingly enough was aboard that fateful voyage then, maybe even a cause of some of the problems, so to speak. But it didn't frighten her one bit, no she healed from the trauma of it (sadly not as much from the physical part of it hence her short stature and childlike appearance) and took it in stride. She thought of being a teacher like her mom but decided her calling was with the beautiful and courages captain, Indou. She wanted to serve under her so badly she did whatever it took, agreeing to become legally deemed an adult according to old island tradition, studying maritime code and law and getting her first assignment aboard this ship. A ship that had been in dry dock a while to repair her from the damage she sustained and make her stronger against the furosity of the open seas.

Her crewmates liked her well, nobody seemed to care or know she was patient zero that day, there were those who did and had doubts she'd physically be up to the work but she was up there, hoisting or trimming sails, hauling cargo around, helping passengers, holding her own in good and bad seas. She knew every nautical short hand like it was nothing. In a short time it was likely she would become officer and that was her dream. It was a dream of her Captain too, Aina Indou had certainly taken a liking to her. There was an age gap between them but that didn't seem to matter. Of course no favoritism, professional conduct on the job always. This was a big passenger ship with a large crew for paying passengers owned by a large private company, so there was more of a business like way of doing things, compared if this was some little fishing boat owned by a couple. Off the ship and in private however, they were otherwise a pretty doting couple. For this morning the two were going to disembark, leaving First Mate Kiri Okada to take charge on the ship and make sure tourists followed their guides, and yeah the Yuzu wasn't just here to depart passengers and move to her next port like most UIS ships would, she was also here to be apart of the show. It was Aina's idea actually she proposed it to her bosses to sell the Yuzu's big comeback to the sea. Maybe shake off any stigma remaining. Well it so far it seemed to work on the home front, people booked their tickets to come visit. Aina had been captain of the Yuzu since her launch in 2012 and wanted to keep going for the foreseeable future. A good ship is like a good partner you get comfortable, you usually don't want to leave. Sure a time might come when she'd be replaced but for now the Yuzu was her ship. Yuzu (the person) honestly didn't care much what ship she went on, so long as her captain was Aina that was both out of love and respect for her. could be a tiny sail boat for all she cared, well okay she did enjoy working with a crew so having more people around was a good thing.

On the decks this nice early morning she waited, her crew and cabin mate, Sakura approached her. Young like her, a couple years her senior but already had the style and sensibilities of a grizzled sea captain, always decked out in some kind of rain gear, always speaking in nautical phrases always thinking of the sea. Okay maybe not quite THAT bad but still she got along fine with Yuzu. "Yuzuchii"

"Saku! Good morning."

"A fine morning it is today indeed. Hears you going ashore today with the Captain?"

"I am. You not?"

"Afraid not, you know I'm forbidden from going ashore anywhere." That was a long story in of itself but Yuzu nodded "Sorry, that's right."

"Don't feel bad, I'm not a crowds person anyway. Just remember to keep up on your medicine okay?"

"Hehe you sound like the Captain and my mother! But thanks"

"We gotta watch for each other after all, on the sea, she takes no prisoners."

To be honest their voyage her wasn't bad, surprisingly. The weather was a bit choppy for them leaving the islands but upon getting out into open seas it was actually relaxing and uneventful. Yuzu's delight but maybe to Sakura's dismay. "Bring me something?"

"You got it, I'll be glad to"

"I knew you and I would be good mates. Enjoy time with Captain too."

"Thanks, I will!" She smiled at her. Her crew mate receded down into the depths as the gentle hand of Aina came down on her shoulder "Ready to go ashore?"

"Ready!"

The gangway was set down for passangers and crew who wished to go ashore and there were plenty but this story is only focused on our two crew members our Captain and her young sailor protoge.

"How you feeling today?" Aina asked Yuzu

"I'm feeling just fine, really, I'm okay. Given how easy a journey it was honestly I'm probably the best shape ever."

"You still did spike a small fever last night according to the Ship Nurse"

"So I had a flair up, really I'm fine. I promise, I'll take it easy now that we're in port a few days. Besides I want to see the many other kinds of ships here! See what nautical life is like from other parts of the world!"

Yuzu did still have the lingering effects of her illness. She wasn't contagious or a hazard to anybody mind you, just still had to deal with it. The fever could do that, could kill you, leave you with lifelong issues or just run its course easily. Yuzu was among the cases that had lingering effects. "I took my medicine I rested all night, I'm okay."

"All right I'll take you on your word here. Plus on top of that, how can I not when you're as cute as you are?"

I could get dangerously used to this, Helena Cärrino thought, taking a break from watching the sun come up and her paperback thriller to sip something fruity & tropical and turn the volume up on the Bluetooth speaker situated next to the lounge chair all platinum-haired, sky-blue-eyed 5' 11" of her was currently languorously stretched out on. Her attire of not much in the way of a white bikini, matching cherry red lipstick & nail polish on both fingers and toes, a rose gold ankle bracelet, and eco-chic hemp sandals went quite well with Broodeheim's tropical surroundings. Her more immediate surroundings, of course, were the teak-floored sun deck of the royal family's immense white yacht Amnat et Gloria, or Grace and Glory in English. Built in Temku circa 1931 by Terenhalt & Sons, she was 360 feet in length with a 50-foot beam and 32,000 square feet of canvas spread across four masts and thirty sails serving as her primary means of propulsion. Majestic, if one had to condense it down into a single word.

Finally arriving in a tropical paradise as of last night after a longer voyage than she perhaps cared to think about, she had to admit that this really was lovely. Her traveling companions were her cousins Marlena and Meyhan, both princesses like her and more like sisters than cousins considering the volume of time they spent together as children. Meyhan had similar straight platinum-blonde hair but combined it with gray eyes, higher cheekbones and a height of 5'9" and Marlena was a considerably longer, darker and wavy blonde, rounder-faced and bluer-eyed at 5'8". Both were 19 to Her Highness' 22 and were actually slightly more likely than Helena to start a riot among the local male population, but the Crown Princess could be far more than the cute ingenue she looked like if she wanted to be. "You're up early," Her Highness commented as Marlena made her presence on the sun deck known with a clatter by tripping over the ship's cat and interrupting softly sung pop lyrics with "Ach! Dumb furball."

"Went to bed hot under the collar. Thank Rudi," she replied with a mischievous grin. Her Highness raised a protective big sister-like eyebrow. "Points for enthusiasm, needs to work on his technique. I could say the same about you, by the way. Too excited to sleep much?" The lanky redheaded deckhand had been on the receiving end of Marlena's shortest skirts and most flirtatious smiles for more of the trip than was perhaps strictly necessary, so this wasn't much of a surprise to her. Thank the gods she and Sigrid were here to chaperone, otherwise Broodeheim wouldn't have known what hit it. "Spot on. That, and this isn't the kind of sunrise you get back home by a long road so I didn't want to miss it. Spare me the details with regards to your latest plaything, but as long as you haven't done anything rash like actually doing the mystery dance I won't rat on you to your mom," Helena said somewhat thickly through a mouthful of juice.
"Strictly second base, no worries. Hey, isn't that Princess Aurelia's yacht over there?"
"Smooth way to change the subject, cuz. You're technically correct, anyway, it's her father Prince Damir's. It's nice to know we're in good company. Father's been making some diplomatic overtures in their direction, as I understand it." Not entirely the truth, but certainly no more than a mile from it and it looked enough like the truth if you squinted at it pretty hard.
"Are her and that duchess still, you know, ...?"
"I've no idea, but considering my big brother I'm disappointed by that note of disapproval in your voice," the Crown Princess said with an air of some severity before looking over the rim of her drink and giving her unfortunate cousin an excellent imitation of The Look her father tended to fix on people who were stupid enough to A) ask a particularly dumb-arsed question, B) start arguing with him when he wasn't in the mood- which was always, or C) severely [REDACTED] up something important. It ran in the family, of course. A century of kicking enough ass to get into power, another century of kicking enough ass (and marrying upwards) to get on the throne and another three-plus of kicking enough ass to stay there was going to do that.

"You are not required to like her preferences in the bedroom but you are required to put your big girl pants on and deal with it, and it will not affect your interactions with either of them in any way. I was under the impression I had made this clear back in July with Marco and Rohan, but it applies to Her Highness and Her Grace as well as any non-traditional couple we encounter regardless of social standing. Got it? Good. Give me enough time to finish this chapter- you know what, don't. Screw it. I'm bored." Helena nearly jumped upright and out of her lounge chair. "Light a fire under Meyhan's tail, let me put something on over this and let's go somewhere. No point in staying aboard now that we're here." Old Town Harbour was a riot of color underneath the sunrise's last fading amber by the time Helena had shrugged a flirtatiously-cut periwinkle sundress on and grabbed her purse, taking the half-hour-plus it took Marlena to reattach her head after Meyhan bit it off (Her Highness was not a morning person) and for Meyhan herself to get dressed in a pink crop top and cutoff shorts to put sunscreen on, text her brothers a selfie from the gangplank and aimlessly scroll through Snapchat. "This better be worth it," their reluctant partner in crime grumbled. "Spoilsport," Marlena retorted, and Helena's bodyguard- no, no, interpreter -Sigrid Markusdottir let out a maternal sigh, clad in a lightweight pencil skirt-blouse-suit jacket combo that didn't entirely conceal the Walther PDP holstered at her side. "Your Highnesses..."

The ship situation on the quartet's walk through Old Town Harbour was best described as "if it floats, it's probably here." A paddle steamer, a few commercial fishing vessels, something armed that looked suspiciously like an American oil tanker from the Forties, a sail-era ship of the line, a straight-up Viking longship, and a plethora of motor yachts including the aforementioned Aurelia... one of which actually seemed to be arriving now. Brand-new and wouldn't have been the affront to good taste it currently was if it had been about 15% smaller in every dimension, which to Helena's culturally Euroskeptic mind meant one thing: Spain. That in turn meant the faintly dreaded presence of Lucía de Hasburgo-Trastámara, Princesa de Asturias, whom Her Highness had gotten to know (not befriend, in fact based on their online interactions she considered her a hideously spoiled leech on the Spanish taxpayers with no sense of personal or ethical responsibility) via a certain Polish-Prussian social network. Smile and wave, girls, smile and wave, she thought, watching it dock. Father would forgive her far more than he would her brothers, but somehow she doubted "caused an international incident by personally insulting the daughter of the head of a nuclear state twice our size" was something he'd give her a pass on.

Meanwhile, there was technically a fourth member of the royal family present in Ridderli, though the two delegations were unaware of the other's presence. Barring a slightly longer haircut and his mother's freckles, the seventeen-year-old Elia Roän was otherwise an absolute dead ringer for His Majesty circa 1978 at the same age, a.k.a. not at all a bad-looking guy in the eyes of his female peers back home. Same lean athletic build and six-three height, same coltish awkwardness in said height like he wasn't quite used to there being quite so much of him and his limbs yet, same facial features, same little gap between his front teeth, same blushing self-consciousness around girls. People noticed and people talked, to be sure, but for all he knew it was mostly his buddies good-naturedly ribbing him about what they didn't know was actually the truth: he was indeed His Majesty's illegitimate son by his former secretary Jan Roän and the unintentional culmination of a three-year affair. Hardly the kind of thing one advertised, but ever since taking his father up on an offer of under-the-table legitimization and entitlement without public or press fanfare he'd discovered that having RSN for regiatsrasiken or "blood of the crown" in the title box on all his papers served to open doors and grease the wheels of the monolithic Brettain bureaucracy to a considerable extent.

The trust fund and the brand-new RKF Sagitta VR8 combined with a complete wardrobe upgrade more than did their part as well, both for his self-image and image in the eyes of others: his father had said that he wanted to set him up for success, and so far he had been very much true to his word. His accommodations weren't as luxurious as his half-sister and cousins', though the abovedecks ocean-view room in the Mervayan cruise ship he'd booked passage on was very nice indeed. Taking a lengthy vacation during the middle of the school year hadn't been the easiest thing on the planet to arrange, but remote learning wasn't that hard and most teachers had just given him homework packets to complete in his own time. He felt it would be good to get a complete change of scenery in and clear his head to plan and prepare for whatever next steps were in store for him. Hitting the pause button and taking time to sort stuff out was very much necessary due to both financial and opportunity windfalls: Elia wasn't a stupid guy and he wanted to make sure he didn't screw this up.

Actually, what he had on his mind more than anything else at the moment was breakfast. After pulling on a striped polo shirt in the red and gray of Aurinel United Football over a pair of denim shorts and Chuck Taylor All-Star shoes, he'd been stuck in the customs line for north of an hour and coffee & a croissant only gets a guy so far. The view after he'd finally gutted it out and gotten through was very much worth it, though; Broodeheim was big but its vibe was pretty much the polar opposite of Aurinel back home and not just in terms of the weather. The cruise terminal wasn't that pretty, but stepping off the bus in the Old Town harbour felt like stepping back in time. Oh, perfect. Before he knew it, he'd followed his nose straight to a great-looking food stall. "Good morning, could I have a- actually, no. Do you have any local specialties or stuff like that for a curious tourist? I came here to broaden my horizons after all, so I might as well start now."

It was not every day that DJ Hammer, as Clement Saavedra was better known, teamed up with DJ Diamond. Having awakened from the bed, he couldn't help but notice a still-asleep Kimberly Menendez. The sailing was the interesting part; having gotten well-acquainted with the yacht--and Kimberly was quick to point out that M/Y Spirit of Diamond used to belong to her mother Eloisa--there was no shortage of activity to entertain the other passengers. To think so-called 'snooty professionals' aren't above a good party, he mused, as the DJs would see themselves on rotation. The two had a routine: DJ Hammer had Saturday through Monday, DJ Diamond had Tuesday through Thursday, and both DJs would be playing on Friday. This was not to say that the whole affair was entirely professional, however; the events of the previous night were all the indication of that.
As he left the room for the galley, he saw one of the two actors also invited by the professionals who ran the yacht--Jericho Lu, being the guy--grab a plate of bacon and eggs, before noticing the other--Alexandra Celis--already digging into a bowl of oatmeal, and breakfast in bed sounded like a particularly interesting idea for Clement, never mind that in the course of their travels, the most the two DJs were in terms of relationship status were casual partners. It was the right thing to do, as he saw it, and he knew it.

Enrico Satou was a professional photographer, taking pictures commissioned by various clients for a living. That said, he was also a man of adventure, so when a former client invited him to the sea trial of the yacht that would soon be his, the Eternal Will, Enrico was ecstatic. Seeing the various other seacraft moored by the harbor was something he just had to take a picture of. It was, after all, his bread and butter.
"Enjoying the view, I see," that former client asked right behind him.
"Of course, Hiram." Hiram Yabut had invited a small group to accompany him and the testing team on the sea trial, and so far, things were looking pretty good. Having a professional photographer also helped generate publicity for the relatively young man, the entrepreneur who ran Solar Overdrive, a solar power company that had five large floating solar farms under its belt and an addition two more on the way. "Not every day you get to see all those craft in one place," Enrico added.

Harrison, Murata, and Goco Consultants started out as a project of three men coming from different investment banks to start their own. As they catered to various clients over the course of their careers, the gains were high enough that they eventually hired additional members to manage a more diverse clientele, and invested in vehicles that would give them an edge when entertaining clients.
What Lester Harrison, Juan Tomas Murata, and several members of the firm knew, however, was that they were not only investment bankers, accountants, lawyers, and financial advisors, but also officers of the Visayan Intelligence Agency. Indeed, a relatively small portion of the firm was composed of VIA agents. There would be work to do in Ridderli, and Murata and Harrison knew it.

RMS Roza

The Roza had set off from Sauville in Abetton, steamed to the colonial port of Charlotte and then got underway for Ridderli, the mate a mighty sailing woman and the captain brave and sure, both officers in the Royal Navy (reserve anyway) but sailors in their maritime life as well, usually charters between Abetton Mainland and the colony or to other far off lands. Modern ferry ships as Abetton never lost the love of the sea even in the era of the jet. Flying became more a thing for politicians, business people, and the super wealthy the sea was for the leisure seeking vacationer. Well this was a vacation for some, a learning experience for others either way, this old gal built as a military vessel two centuries ago was a floating traveling working tour site. She'd go around to various ports around Abetton and neighboring Katase and other neighbors in Greater Dienstad. Now it was on route to Ridderli. This was no three hour tour it was a lengthy trip but it was ready for it, it had to be because the last leg of the journey the weather started getting rough and the tiny ship was tossed (tiny compared to today's modern super carriers and the ocean itself). Perhaps if not for the brave and fearless crew who worked her, the Captain, her mate and sailors under her, she could truly be lost! But lost she wasn't. For passengers it was unpleasant for some exciting for others.

The Captain stared down the mighty waves and kept saying to her mate "Hold her steady, Alexandra!"

"Aye Captain!"

The Roza overcame the mighty tempest and arrived safe and sound late in the night, no worse for ware.

The Captain and her Mate

Good friends, comrades, fellow soldiers, Captain (Major in the Navy) Milano Shepard and Lieutenant Alexandra Stockton took the morning with her crew to sound the ship. After such a frightful storm it was a good idea to be safe, any repairs could be made and supplies replenished. Along with them a young sailor, marine stock actually from his conscription to His Majesty's Armed forces, and commercial sailor, another Captain (but a seaman here) Conrad James Gram, better known as CJ to his friends and family. "Things are looking good for how rough it got last night." Milano smiled and nodded approvingly.

"Aye Ma'am." CJ replied to them as they walked the decks. "As far as I can tell, the ship held well in the stress and took to the waves fine. Passengers rattled as expected but to be expected."

"Cooks say some dishes broke, that seems to the worst of it." Alexandra said looking over the reports from all the crew

"When my grandfather captained the Blue Giant, the whole bridge was ripped away in a storm. Honestly, I'm glad we made it through without a scratch. Very good. Once things are all wrapped up, you're relieved of duty, sir."

"Thank you, Captain."

Great news for CJ he had his family along for the trip and was excited. "Makes me miss my little one." Alexandra said with a sigh.

"Why didn't you bring her? Plenty of families of crew aboard. Plus she's cute as a doll."

"I really thought about it but, she's still having a hard time in school you know. So we decided best put her in summer classes."

"That's really too bad but cheer up, I wasn't the greatest student either but eventually it all just came to me. I'm sure she'll do great!" From the deck next to them were two similar ships on either side, to the right from Cartoonia the SS Fascination, to the left the SS Yuzu and not far off down the row, what looked like an old pirate ship off nearby. Hard to say what ships would offer tours, they didn't get here early enough to take in the sight seeing brochures if they offered any. "Well my friend, let's go see some ships."

"All right, let's go!"

Their first stop would be the equally impressive Fascination honestly there was a good chance either of them had ancestors who sailed aboard this old steamer.

The Gram Family

CJ had the best news he'd had all voyage, finally relived of duty which meant he could spend time with his family! Finding his way down the stairs to the decks below to the cabin where his wife, Katy and his two daughters were. His wife, Katarina better known by her nickname, Katy, had to care for them most of the trip given CJ was crew aboard this vessel. See, winter is normally their family vacation, given Katy works at the town stable at their seaside town of Candle Cove and CJ is often out to sea in the summer months when the waters are more tolerable in general but things happen and they had to postpone their family vacation until now. He found them resting quite soundly, the girls in their bed together, Katy on her own top bunk, honestly he was glad they were able to get some rest with how terrible the storm had gotten. "Good morning" he gently said getting them to stir awake.

"Oooh papa!" Cordelia said rubbing her sleepy eyes

"Papa?" Ophelia rose in her bed as well seeing their father

"Dear, is that you?" Katy rolled over keeping herself from rolling off the bed in the process

"Yup, yup, we're in port my dears. Get ready, we'll go for breakfast."

It was about a half-hour to forty-five minutes later or so everyone was set and ready. The twin girls all dolled up and cute, Abetton a lot like it's neighboring nation was pretty old fashioned and this family certainly wasn't different, the girls still wore long dresses with their gold hair tied in ribbons. The girls were really giddy, this was the first time they ever traveled out of the country so this place was new and strange but so interesting and curious.

A Teacher and her Students?

From another part of Abetton, pretty much as far from the ocean as one can be, a couple of country kids were here too. The Christopher children, Rosette (technically older by 25 minutes) and her twin brother, Joshua a couple of silly dreamy kids from the farmlands of the great Kingdom they called home. But sometimes a bit too silly for their own good, not malicious pranksters but not exactly focused students. Both were nearly ready to start Middle School and both were risking not even finishing Primary School. Honestly, school was boring for them, they were dreamers, story tellers, Rosette loved to spin a good yarn or just make up a flights of fancy stories. Even on the Roza during the voyage they didn't stop, saying anything from it was a warship (well technically true just not any more) to it being a pirate ship, to traveling to an island of dragons! Joshua equally imaginative, put pencil to paper by drawing a lot, sketching, doodling, anything and everything. Oh well who needs school anyway, not like they were going to be rocket scientists, they were born farmers they would likely be that in the future, Abetton wasn't known for having a lot of social mobility unless you somehow got lucky and married a nobleman but that was an equally flight of fancy. Their parents were ready to give up on them and just have them work the farm sunup to sundown like their older siblings but their teacher had other ideas. Eleanore better known as Elly wasn't the type to just say that you're born an x you'll stay an x and that's life, she was a teacher, she was dedicated believing her two students could also go onto great things if they put their minds to it. Not like everyone was ever born into their professions or skills, they're taught. She hatched this strange scheme to get her two dreamy eyed students to focus, and well she was their aunt.

Walking the streets this fine morning to pass by the various ships and anything else of sight the brother and sister took the lead with Elly trailing close behind. "Aunty, look at that big ship!" Joshua pointed out the Black Rose which looked fittingly like a pirate ship.

"Miss Elly, you call me Miss okay? I'm still in my 20s ya know!"

"Maybe I can sketch it?" Joshua requested

"I suppose so, all right, we can sit a few moments." Joshua was pretty good, he could commit the subject to memory long enough to make his rough outline, it would take a few minutes but not super long either.

Just like Home - Ahorangi Family

Lots of families were aboard the ship, many vacationing families and some like the previously mentioned Gram family, were part of the crew, Anahera Ahorangi, mother of two daughters also crew aboard this ship, surrounded by so many handsome men yikes it certainly got her hot and bothered through the voyage. The highs and lows were exciting for her, the intense storm they sailed through before arrival was certainly the best. Between being a mother and sailor she was also a surfer so of course she loved big waves.

Her oldest, Winika just turning 13, certainly on the verge of angsty adolescence was kind of 'eh' about everything. I mean they were from the Abetton Minor Islands, plenty of ships, boats and the like they can see them at home, so why come here? Really she wanted to go up to the mainland of Abetton in the winter, snow is what she wanted to see but winter in the mainland may be slow for marine activity, the islands were bustling, that kept their mom busy and their father, bless his heart was an ex-convict, nothing serious mind you, just a "draft dodger" he avoided conscription and went to jail for it that meant he was super limited in where he could travel so that's why it was only the three of them.

The youngest, Hira was of course super excited to be here, being able to go to a foreign country? How exciting!

"Look at that boat there!" Hira pointed out one of the several ships in the harbor "That one looks cool too, and that one! Yeah mama, mama let's go to that one?!"

"Easy does it, baby girl, one thing at a time, we'll get to see plenty of ships." Anahera said while getting a few last minute things, just a small carry bag of bottles of water to carry around should they get a little thirsty. Good to stay hydrated.

Even cranky Winika managed to crack a smile taking a look at the port, you know this might actually be a fun trip after all. "Wonder if they have crepes here?" Winika

"Even if they don't, they have them aboard the Roza, dear. Okay girls, you two ready?"

"all set!"

The trio disembarked now setting off around the harbor to see the sights and ships!

His Imperial Majesty's Yacht Corona II

Underway to Broodeheim Harbor

Gliding majestically through the seas, her sleek prow effortlessly parting the waves, was the unmistakable figure of the Corona II. With her sparkling jet-black hull and gleaming white superstructure, the newly commissioned Imperial Yacht was the pride of the Spanish Empire. To top it all off, a huge Imperial Ensign flew from her stern, a striking red Burgundy Cross topped with an imposing black double-headed eagle (a well-known symbol of the Habsburg dynasty, as well as the Holy Roman Empire which Spain considered itself the successor of), to dispel any doubts as to who was her owner: none other than the Emperor of Spain himself.

Built by Hispano Heavy Industries (the Spanish state-owned company known worldwide not only for building ships, but also aircraft, locomotives and machinery), the Corona II was a literal flagship of unbounded luxury and all the latest bells and whistles. Measuring 130 meters (430 feet) long and displacing 9,900 tons, her size was more typical of a ferry or small cruise ship than a yacht—this meant she had a lot of interior space. So in addition to the pair of Imperial Suites for the Emperor and his family, the ship featured 50 VIP guest cabins, two dining rooms, a ballroom, meeting room, library, gym, swimming pool, mini golf course, and hospital. And despite all that, there was still enough room to comfortably house the 100 crew, and provide each of them with their own cabin.

More importantly, the size of the Corona II allowed her to have a bigger and more powerful engine, than your typical yacht. Engines, to be exact—there were three of them: two V16 diesel generators paired to electric drive motors, and a direct-drive gas turbine engine. And indeed, she was able to haul ass, with a speed of 25 knots (46 km/h) using solely diesel-electric propulsion, and a classified speed of more than 30 knots (56 km/h) with the turbine activated as well. But the latter was strictly avoided, being reserved for emergency use only, since it burned extra fuel and made much more noise.

However, this trip was an exception to that, reason to come later. On board was Her Imperial Highness, Lucía, Princess of Asturias (28), and traveling with her, her best friend since childhood Arizona Guevara (27). Both were headed to Broodeheim for the Harbor Festival—mostly to have fun, but as an official photographer for the Imperial Palace, Ari was also there to take photos of the occasion. For two reasons: first, to document the life of the Imperial Family, but second, also to keep the peasant paparazzi at bay. In addition, although they didn't expect anything to happen, they brought along two bodyguards from the Imperial Spanish Marines' Special Escort Squadron (Escuadra Especial de Escolta or Triple E), somewhat like the Spanish equivalent of SEAL Team Six.

Of course though, since open displays of force were frowned upon at an event such as this, both traveled under a civilian cover: Jesús López (33) as the Princess's personal servant and porter, with a smart black tuxedo and white gloves to look the part, and Gloria Mendoza (26) as their professional guide and interpreter (unlike Lucía, Ari struggled with even basic English, and would be totally helpless without somebody to translate for her. And neither of the ladies spoke any German), dressed in a blazer.

Anyway, the voyage from Spain to Ridderli took several days and nights. Fortunately the weather and sea conditions were favorable all the way, and Lucía and Ari were never bored for even a moment, as they had the entire ship to themselves, and could do whatever they wanted: mini golf, video games, movies, or just gazing at the stars from the Corona II's wide open top deck. Along the way, they'd spotted another ship far off in the distance, a full-rigged sailing vessel, also headed toward Broodeheim. This was the Amnat et Gloria ("Grace and Glory"), and she was carrying Helena Cärrino, an imperial princess from Brettenwald, whom Lucía had previously met online. The two weren't exactly BFFs—Helena thought the Spanish princess was an irresponsible spoiled brat, while Lucía viewed her Brettain counterpart as somewhat cold and uptight. But this was a time for vacation and relaxation, not politics, so Lucía was willing to put aside her differences and play nice, and hopefully Helena would do the same.

Wanting to catch up with Helena's ship and pull up alongside her for some conversation, Lucía had ordered the captain to spool up the turbine and bring the Corona II up to flank speed. This was also an opportunity to break in the ship's engines and propulsion system, and test her acceleration and handling capabilities, which proved quite impressive indeed. Unfortunately for her, the Amnat et Gloria was just too far ahead, and the captain had to slow the ship back down by throwing her engines in full astern, as Ridderli's territorial waters were approaching, and the harbor had a speed limit of 10 knots. The rendezvous would have to take place on land.

Broodeheim Harbor

Just as Helena's group was walking up, the Corona II pulled up to the dock and cut her engines. The deck crew sprang into action, hauling fenders over the side and securing the ship to the mooring posts using ropes. Then the gangway was extended, and Lucía and Ari disembarked from the vessel, followed by their "servant" Jesús pushing a large wheeled case (containing Ari's camera equipment) and their "interpreter" Gloria. For this occasion, the Princess wore her signature bright yellow mini dress and black felt boots, while her friend sported a blue hairdo, gray T-shirt, black yoga pants and sneakers.

The two groups soon came face-to-face. Lucía was the first to greet them. "Hey hey, look who's here!" she said. "Oh, you've brought along a couple of friends, how wonderful! I'm Lucía and this is Ari. How y'all doing today?"

Wilhelm

If anyone knew that three of the four jet-lagged WFians staggering onto the harbor were royalty, they initially made no sign. Wilhelm, for his part, was too exhausted to be vigilant; he was still greatly weakened from his surgery and on a low dosage of pain medication, and was only here via more than a little handwavium. Yet, as he peered blearily across the harbor, with his niece, nephew, and the nurse accompanying him in case his health failed him, he found himself suspecting everyone here of plotting against him.

Rather, he sensed he'd be judged tremendously were he to be picked out from the crowd, wrapped up in a hoodie though he was. The early morning carried with it a bit of a chill, and he shivered, drew his thermos of black coffee closer toward himself. He only had eight ounces to begin with, as he was wary of mixing a stimulant with all the other medications he was on despite the go-ahead from his physicians. And he cared not for the taste. Hotel coffee tended to be dilute and cheap, with this morning's cup being no exception. There had been almost no tea, his preferred beverage, this morning, so he had opted for coffee to keep himself awake for the next three hours.

A set of slight fingers gently touched his shoulder. "You Highness?" whispered the nurse, Jane Stock. "Art thou alright?"

Wil nodded, managed a faint smile. "Ja, thank you." He then added, rather dismissively, "Julia, Al, if the two of you want to watched the ships being moored or find someone to..." he paused to take a breath, "...mingle with, thou'rt free to do so. I'm...I'll find a nearby bench, I suppose."

"Dost thou need any assistance?" questioned Julia in a hushed tone similar to that of the nurse's. He shook his head weakly. "Alright. We won't stray too far. Right, Al?"

Al shrugged, seemingly lost in his phone. His screen was angled away from Wilhelm, but he had a solid notion of what the boy was doing.

"I'll wander for a bit, if that is alright," Julia finally responded. "No idea what Al is up to." She broke away from the group without another word, her straw ponytail shimmering in the early morning light.

He desperately needed to sit down. After patting his nephew's shoulder, he staggered over to the nearest bench and collapsed into it, panting heavily. Fuzzy splotches broke apart the bustling harbor scene, and the rising sun, before him, the boats misshapen and the crowd distorted. He shut his eyes, tilted his head back, breathed through his nostrils, let the air blow against his gaunt face. He'd grown quite thin during his tenure in the hospital and had hardly put on weight since then, so he resembled a cadaver with loose, white skin hanging over sharp cheeks.

He waited for his breath to steady a bit ere he opened his eyes again. Julia had dissolved into the multitude, as had Al, a quick glimpse over his shoulder revealed. Excellent. He was ultimately here to monitor him, or convince himself he was monitoring them. In truth, the two of them could handle themselves, except Al when it came to school or Julia when it came to her compulsive need to be right. A spitting image of her mother, that one. Though she reminded Wilhelm of himself at seventeen sans the lechery, what with her short temper and dominant personality. Personality-wise, she was hardly like her father at all.

Allie. Wil smiled a little, touched the spot on his sunken abdomen where his scar slashed across the skin. Allie was at home, since he was barred from physically attending this event (damn royal titles), though Wilhelm planned to video call him at least once whilst he was here. He was considering calling his brother now, but he couldn't quite remember the time difference and was too worn from standing to inquire.

Julia

The Corona II? Seriously? Julia could not have concocted a more insensitive ship name for this day and age if she tried. She knew "corona" was Spanish for crown (it was just about the only Spanish word she knew), but it was simply horridly christened if it belonged to anyone who did not speak Spanish. The sight of it made her knuckles become white as she gripped the hem of her sleeveless tunic, for, although her country had not been ravaged by the virus, billions across the world had. Adding up the family members of victims and survivors, healthcare workers, and people who had suffered psychological trauma, she could encompass the almost the entire world population excluding the victims themselves. Even the infants too young to be truly affected will be forced to learn about this in school, will be drilled endlessly on it whilst their parents relieve their horrific experiences as they help their children with their homework.

She swallowed and turned her back on the harbor. Despite being from an island, she knew not how to sail, and had traveled here via aeroplane. She was fortunate enough to be from a family that could afford a private jet, which spared her from the dredgery of customs, at least to a degree. She suspected there were more than a few royals present today, though she could not necessarily distinguish them from ordinary rich folk. Julia herself did not appear royal, what with her shell pink cotton tunic and ice blue board shorts, but this was the age of the Internet. The publicity her father's illness received would surely be more than enough to cause someone to have seen her face, even if they did not remember it.

Her stomach rumbling, she meandered toward a food stall with her hands stuffed into her shorts pockets. She'd overslept this morning (imbecile) and had had no more than a banana to eat; this was after skipping supper yesterday, as her nerves had bestowed her with a stomachache. She took her place in line behind a blond boy who looked to be around her age, but who unfortunately blocked her view of a portion of the food stall's menu.

Oh, well.

The line was fast-moving, and Julia was no closer to deciding what to order than when she had first taken her place in line. She listened to the boy order--"Good morning, could I have a- actually, no. Do you have any local specialties or stuff like that for a curious tourist? I came here to broaden my horizons after all, so I might as well start now--" and tried to place his accent. German, mayhap? American? She hadn't a clue. Being from such a tiny nation meant she and her family were very likely the only four WFians present at this event, making everyone else a foreigner. 'Twould be fascinating to see how many of them had ever heard of the German-speaking nation in Polynesia with a defunct Parliament and a propensity for Shakespearean insults.

The trust fund and the brand-new BMW combined with a complete wardrobe upgrade more than did their part as well, both for his self-image and image in the eyes of others: his father had said that he wanted to set him up for success, and so far he had been very much true to his word.

Western Fardelshufflestein wrote:Wilhelm

Sunna Fischli.
My favourite stall soon got other visitors, a quite cute looking young man and a lass in a sleeveless tunic in pink. Not my colour, but it looked decent enough.
The lad ordered something local, which made the guy in the stall smile.
“Sure, Sir.”, he said with a bit of an accent – a rather noticeably one at that. “One Pfeilfischbrötchen, coming right up!”
I smiled – the Pfeilfisch was a fish species around our parts. Not directly endemic, but you were hard pressed to find them beyond our waters. The tender flesh was smoked and could either be used as a soup ingredient, or it could be put into breadrolls, with onions, pickles and with a variety of sauces like remoulade, ketchup or a horseradish sauce.
That was, what the guy behind the counter had handed me, for the price of five Silbergulden, or somewhere between five and six NSD, and now, put into a white paper napkin as well, handed to the young man. I watched the whole interaction from my vantage at the bus stop's bench, smiled at the two and the others waiting in line as I took a hearty bite.
This was delicious.

Not many people took notice of Wilhelm or his nurse and those who did thought of him as a guy, who had stayed out at night for far too long and had a far too patient girlfriend/wife.
A pair of police officers walked past, took little notice of the two, youngsters of school age ran past without paying them any heed, and generally, they were ignored...
...until an older fellow, walking on a cane, spoke up in quite accentuated English: “Excuse me, young man, would you mind me sitting down next to you?”
He wore something light, he looked old and he smiled politely.

Cartoonia wrote:S.S.

While the Yuzu was docked to the Fascination's starboard side, on her portside, a small bit of water between them as she was on another jetty, was a ship of maybe an equally eyecatching build, but for different reasons – indeed, the Rosenläufer, with her huge greenhouse garden, was a sight to behold.
Owned by a Teressien Princess, Princess Naya of Bucktend, she would be quite welcoming of tourists herself, especially for the gardens, but the first tours would start at eight o'clock and would be handled by two Hausmädchen and, every hour on the hour, by the Princess herself.
For now, however, the Princess was just a tourist herself and a neighbour, deciding to leave her gardens early in the morning – dressed in a dark blue t-shirt with a small necklace around her neck, the ruby inlaid into the piece shining, and a white skirt, the brunette woman approached the jetty, looking at the old cruise liner with an appreciating eye. She was pretty, a classic beauty.
Naya would be the first to admit, that shipbuilding wasn't her thing and that ships were nice, but not her thing either, that she was more into flowers, but even she could take pleasure in the sight.
The old man, who left the vessel, received a respectful nod from the young woman, who decided to catch her from all angles available, walking down the jetty towards the stern.
It was a beautiful morning and while the sun made all the ships shine, she seemed to be especially well-meaning with the old cruise ship, or so it seemed to Naya.
She decided to climb the gangway and to take a peek at her insides – maybe with a tour guide, if around an hour was enough, but she'd see...

Meanwhile, Gerald, his name unknown to the people around him, found himself at the centre of attention of not a person, not even several, but of a canine.
He was a large lad, easily a metre tall, when he stood (granted, if one measured from the ground to the crown), with shining blue eyes and well-kept fur, brown and beige and white like the deserts and steppes he hailed from. A collar told, that he had an owner, who came running as the canine was sniffing at the older man with great interest.
Aldhiyb! Come!”, the young woman, an olive-skinned blonde with a young man standing not too far away, called in a language he might be able to identify as Kyrenaian. She smiled apologetically, switching into English: “My apologies, Sir, Aldhiyb is a curious lad. I hope, that he hasn't been a bother?”

Katase wrote:The Mother Daughter Duo

Lien Sunnewirbele.
Harbourfront.

While there were quite a few sail vessels present, there were also a lot of non-sails here, too. They were all very fascinating for both me and the two young women at my side: Aaltje and Jette Schreyg, actresses like me and from Teressien, were here on a little vacation and the harbour festival had come just at the right time for us three to take a ride from Sannbann and my holiday home there to Broodeheim. My HMW GT-123 stood in a parking house at the edge of the Old Town Harbour, but that was another story.
Jette was 'just' a part-time actress, she was more into her apprenticeship as a Gastwirtin, while Aaltje was the actual star, ever since 2017's Strandhotel at the latest... at the soonest, it were the Geisterhouse-Movies, a series of... let's be polite and call them horror-comedies (the first movie had intended to be a serious, if low-budget, horror movie, came out as comedy and they went for it in Geisterhaus II – Todeswolpertinger, which had tar-black humour galore).
I was famous for being Setzei, the main character of a crime drama show on television, both here in Ridderli, but also in Teressian and in Auwalt and beyond. If I remembered correctly, there were plans to bring me on the screens in Lillorainen as well, but nothing was certain about that as of now.
Anyway, all three of us were blondes, all three of us had different eyecolours and we were all of different heights. All three of us wore light clothing, only Jette wearing a light jacket in addition to her sun dress.
And that was, when I spotted a familiar face, looked into the face of the older woman maybe a bit longer then it was necessary – could that...? Nah... or could it...?
Aaltje slapped me lightly onto the arm. “Hey, don't stare.”, she said in English, maybe so that the two other tourists could understand her, even if it was a bit unlikely in the growing hubbub of people around us. “Is something the matter?”
I shrugged at her, then made the few steps over and bowed my head lightly to the woman: “My apologies, Ma'am, but by any chance, are you Maaya Tennouboshi?”
Jette looked at the violet-haired woman as well, cocked her head, then looked at the girl next to her, undoubtedly her daughter – if I was correct, then this was Uzume Tennouboshi, if not... some random girl.
I heard Jette nudge her slightly. “Hey... if she's wrong, I'll invite you two on an ice cream with us – if not, she'll invite you.”, she stage-whispered, loud enough for us to hear.
Aaltje held back a laugh.

AHSCA wrote:SS Yuzu

Fai Koshisha.
Suniku was a White Caracal from Jalid, an animal from the large land to the deep south. He had been a gift from the Bey of the Kyrenaian Territory, the proud Ihmiset Keke Melko for the anniversary of me reaching a peaceful solution to the Jalid Emergency in 1954. That gift had been received seven years ago, a small kitten back then, who had snuggled into my chest.
Suniku was nowadays half a metre tall, well over two metres long and blessed with ice blue eyes, a white fur with black splotches and the grace only a large feline predator could have.
Both of us were not too used to the tropics, but it was nice to come out of Heinosho every once in a while... and when three governments, usually at each other's throats like only the Pittenmarkian, the Dieschlienian and the Zeckelian Governments could, agreed, that it was time for their chosen wise mediator to take a break and have a fun vacation, then one could hardly argue.
And that was, how we came to Ridderli and to Broodeheim and to the Harbour Festival. That I could meet some countrymen along the way was definitely an added bonus.
Speaking of which... I knew, that the Umitsune would be here, the yacht of the Ingansu-Family, and that she was actually a paddle-wheel vessel (granted, not a steamer anymore). The Yuzu, I did not recognize.
That was not bad, however, especially since some of the crew seemed to be about to disembark.
Schiff auf!”, I called to them in Teressian German, a traditional way of sailors to greet others, comparable to the Ahoy!. “If I may ask, is the Yuzu open for tourists?”

The first thing that might catch the eye of the curious travellers from Abetton about Broodeheim was, that it was very different from their homecountry.
Cordelia and Ophelia, around seven years of age, might be surprised to see girls of their age group in anything but long dresses. One notable example was considerably older, a brunette in her early teens, who wore a bikini top and a pair of shorts, her brown hair in a massive ponytail.
Of course, there were also sun dresses and other clothes, but the Abettonians would very soon realize, that the dress code was far lighter. There were also a lot of children their age around, for example a gaggle of elementary schoolers was moving through the crowd with the leader, a brunette girl, pulling a black haired girl with dog ears behind her, who seemed to be overwhelmed by the experience – their chaperones, a young woman (or what appeared to be a young woman) with similar dog ears and a young man with more eyes for his fellow chaperone then for the kids, smiled at the sight.
They would also see the harbourfront, the promenade alone the quayside, behind it the old warehouses of brick and wood, which have long since been repurposed. Some were art galleries, some were restaurants, one was a museum, and many more. Towards the Gluckselwasser, the river at which's mouth Broodeheim was, the large buildings of the Speicherstadt rose into the sky.
A lot of brick had been used in building the harbourfront, but the quay was of concrete and there were many people using the slightly raised promenade on this wonderful morning.
The quartet, or rather their, by the standards of Ridderli, antiquated clothing, drew a few looks and smiles, as well as one comment “You four will be melting during midday...” from a youth, but no negative reactions.
However, how much of a culture shock the sight was, that depended entirely on the girls and their parents.

Most importantly for Winika, they had crepes, or rather something close to it.
Most importantly for Hira, however, was the vessel she had pointed out: A Reathaí, a vessel one rarely saw outside of the Free Lands, mainly because they weren't built for ocean travel... technically. For the young men and women of the University of Fortham Sailing Team, the term 'technically' was not a concern and so the crew of their team's flagship had dared what had been thought impossible.
Their 32 metre long ship with the singular mast had managed the voyage splendidly and was now proudly flying the flag of their University. The majority of the ten-strong crew had already departed, as did the majority of the passengers, but some were still aboard. The Admiral of Lake Mór, as the team's Captain was jokingly called, was among them, watching as Hira pointed his flagship out.
“Ahoy!”, he called and waved. He was a tall young man, a dark tricorne on his head, and quite pale, “Do you want a tour?”

The Eternal Will was docked right in the thick of it: A jetty separated her from the utilitarian form of the Hurscht Grünstern, a large fishing ship and the pride of the fleet of Hurscht Fisheries, while a bit of water kept her from the Aurelia.
Prince Damir's Sailing Yacht was a stark contrast to the modern forms of the Eternal Will, too, but these differences, clashes, even, only served to enhance the beauty of the ships and the wide range of vessels, which were present.
And the forest of masts, smokestacks, paddles and the occassional solar panel behind the Kyrenaian Yacht was most certainly worth a look. The beginning sounds of the festival could also be heard – the first official program points were a bit out, but that did not stop people from entering the Old Harbour Town.
Many photo opportunities could be had...
...not only for Satou, but also for the people of VIA.
Broodeheim was one of the most important naval bases in Ridderli, home to Schiffsgruppe Kurasch, Ridderli's carrier battle group (one of the core questions had always been What does Ridderli need a carrier battle group for?!, in parliament and elsewhere) and numerous other vessels and installations. While the base was a bit outside, beyond the Industrial Harbour, there was also Baim und Dusel, an important local shipbuilder. There were numerous smaller companies present, too, which produced software, hardware, machines and information... a worthy target for any spy.

Gerald didn't like it, when I slept naked next to him.
I understood, on an intellectual level, what he meant and I knew, that he understood as well: Selkie slept naked, where they felt safe. I felt safe with him, that he would never take advantage of me, when we were in the same bed, and he knew that...
...at the same time, he was worried about my health.
So, we had reached a compromise: I would wear something and not catch a cold, he would rest assured, that I wouldn't take advantage of him. I wore a semi-translucent, knee-length, white negligee.
Spot the irony.
I wore it, when I went to bed on my half of the bed and I wore it, when I blearily opened my eyes, slowly, with a bit of irritation in my face at these bloody, fucking rays of the sun, who dared to force themselves into my eyes and wake me up as I was not on my side of the bed anymore.
Instead, I was snuggled up against Gerald, my head on his shoulder, his arm slung around me.
Stupid sun.
But I got to enjoy the moment a bit as I settled down, my silver hair spread out behind me. He was warm, soft and comfortable.
It felt right.
It felt good.
Screw the sun, I thought as I snuggled deeper into his shoulder and closed my eyes again.

Maaya & Uzume

The mother, daughter duo continued chatting and stopping occasionally to look at the large ships in the harbor and admire them, no doubt they'd be going aboard some of these soon enough but for now they were just getting their barrings of the Old Town Harbor to make a decision on what they'd go about to see and enjoy just the general sights and sounds of this foreign tropical paradise. Maaya got that feeling, that strange sensation you get when you just know you're being watched. I guess it was to be expected, I mean they were pretty famous at home, well Maaya was, Uzume's star was still rising, especially among the youth who found her cute, but here of all places seemed strange, honestly she didn't know if her films traveled far. Turning about, Maaya did see she was being stared at by someone who gave an apology, smiling Maaya replied "It's fine, I guess I'm used to it, though surprised even here I'm getting recognized. You're right on the money, that is who we are."

Uzume bowed in a greeting and also hiding the glow of her cheeks, getting recognized was pretty exciting. "You're not wrong" Uzume said rising up and keeping her compsure "But, I'd like to take you up on the offer for ice cream"

Maaya laughed "Ohoho you'll have to get used to my daughter, she has a sweet tooth on her. Ice cream sounds nice though if you're offering. Odd we only just met but well if our reputation precedes us all the way out here I think it's a great idea. But first, who might you be, only appropriate we know your names right?"

"Then we won't be strangers anymore, we'll be friends."

Meanwhile, there was technically a fourth member of the royal family present in Ridderli, though the two delegations were unaware of the other's presence. Barring a longer haircut and his mother's darker blue eyes, the seventeen-year-old Elia Roän was otherwise an absolute dead ringer for His Majesty circa 1978 at the same age, a.k.a. not at all a bad-looking guy in the eyes of his female peers back home.

The trust fund and the brand-new BMW combined with a complete wardrobe upgrade more than did their part as well, both for his self-image and image in the eyes of others: his father had said that he wanted to set him up for success, and so far he had been very much true to his word.

Western Fardelshufflestein wrote:Wilhelm

Julia

"Uh...." She read and reread the menu, completely baffled. What in the world was she in the mood for? "What is your favorite item on ze menu?" she stammered, her mind blank from hunger. "I'm afraid I'm so famished I've become indecisive. And--" this part she spoke with great hesitation-- "wouldst zou prefer I pay with bills or a credit card?"

Wilhelm

Initially, Wilhelm believed the man was addressing someone else, mayhap Al, for he had aged out of the "young" category last year on his fortieth birthday. Yet his half-closed eyes found an elderly man with a cane smiling warmly at him, and he sensed he was otherwise alone save for Jane Stock.

"Ja," he mumbled, the cool, salty wind pleasant in his lungs. 'Twas beneficial for his health, the sea air, and he'd been spending longer and longer periods in rocking chairs along his favorite palace balcony. The Pacific breeze combined with relaxation were speeding along his recovery, though he was still improving more gradually than was tolerable.

He could more or less tolerate brief episodes of standing and even briefer spurts of walking without aid, but his gait was unsteady and he grew lightheaded within the first few steps. His breathing became ragged if he grew too emotional, even when lying down, and his heart pulsated at a dangerous rate in tandem. Since he had awakened in the hospital, he had been in a perpetual brain fog significant enough to impair his cognitive functioning, which alone was sufficient to derail his plans to return to work in the foreseeable future. What remained of his liver was regenerating as expected, but he required medication to compensate for reduced functioning, and he feared 'twould never fully rebound.

He was fortunate to have not suffered any more adverse events since the operation, but the internal hemorrhage had very nearly deprived him of his life. His physicians assured him that if he continued to adhere to a low-stress, healthy lifestyle in addition to his medication regimen he would significantly reduce his risk of future bleeds; yet, if he so much as bruised, he was gripped by an irrational terror he was about to perish. After several seconds of anxiety, he'd perform a cursory physical self-check to confirm he was stable, then continue his convalescence as was required.

How he had been cleared to travel, he genuinely hadn't the faintest idea.

Al

Corona II. Heh. He smirked at the ship with his phone in hand, the home screen of Among Us displayed in all its glory. There was poor wifi here, which sucked, but hadn't the therapist said he needed to spend less time on his phone anyway?

But the therapist wasn't here to reprimand him. And neither was Mom.

The people who disembarked appeared to be royals, and the yacht, from the looks of it, was worth about as much as Elsinore Palace. Then again, Al didn't know how much the yacht cost, or how much Elsinore Palace was worth--and he was terrible at maths and school in general. What did he know? He was just snickering at the two women (one of them was def a royal) and wondering what they were thinking when they gave their ship that name.

He let his screen go dark and slipped it into his pocket. This memory wasn't good enough to meme. There were too many people around here, and besides, wouldn't it last longer in his memory if he simply enjoyed it?

He spotted a group of people greeting the yacht's passengers, one of whom was wearing yellow and the other who had blue hair. ORP Sęp and MV Patuxent - Broodeheim Harbor

Two ships raced through the waves. Neither was the pride of any Navy, nor did they have any new bells and whistles. Sęp, as a museum ship, was overshadowed by the Rota and Błyskawica, while Patuxent was a fleet-oiler and tanker.

What both did have, however, that gave them a dignity and authority over all other petty yachts and cruise ships crowding Ridderli today, was faithful service in a bloody, cataclysmic war -- World War 2. Patuxent was once the USS Patuxent, running oil from Pearl Harbor or Sacramento to far-flung islands across the Pacific; first at the Guadacanal campaign, during which she had been the lifeline of Henderson Field through the aviation gasoline she carried; then the Marianas Campaign and Palau Island. At Leyte she fought like a warship, adding her own 40mm autocannons to the walls of AA fire that kept the infamous kamikazes at bay, and she steamed with the victorious American fleet into Tokyo Bay at the end of the war.

Sęp's career had been no less illustrious; she had first spent her time in the Atlantic, hunting for U-Boats and German commerce raiders attempting to make a pass at the American coast. Then she was transferred to the Mediterranean, facing off against the Italian fleet; and finally, to the Pacific, where she wreaked havoc on Japanese shipping in the closing days of the war.

Today, in addition to their 'day' jobs, they hunted pirates; Patuxent was particularly infamous for the judicious use of her 4" guns, while Sęp, despite being a museum ship, was regularly requisitioned by the Navy, along with Rota and Błyskawica to patrol the Horn of Africa or the waters off the Strait of Malaaca.

For now, however, Patuxent was merely here on a stopover; her captain, Xaiver Stortebeker, had seen fit to allow his men shore leave, while Sęp was here on a goodwill mission on behalf of the Commonwealth.

The two ships steamed at high speed into the harbor, passing by the Corona II dangerously close, as if it were a lowly tug or a mere punt that could be smashed aside without difficulty.
As far as Vivian Patuxent was concerned, in fact, it was a tug or punt. "These newfangled yachts ain't shit. Not like the warships I used to sail with." the former fleet oiler groused, glancing over at her CO, the Captain Stortebeker. "Not even honest merchantmen like ourselves, aye? It's like seeing kids play pretend."

"Aye, aye." Stortebeker replied, as he waited for the gangplank to lower. "'Tis a sorry state of affairs...I think that yacht's the flagship of the Spanish navy too."

"What the hell?" Vivian shook her head. "What got into their mind? Surely they've got, I don't know, a good old cruiser or carrier or destroyer or even a ship 'o the line to make their flagship. But no, it has to be a fucking YACHT! The number one cause of avoidable marintime accidents besides fucking cruise ships, pirate-bait, a toy for the bored rich-"

"Calm down, Vivi, calm down." Stortebeker placed one of his calloused hands on hers. "It ain't right. But the world's changed since the war. 'sides, we can't let that thing--" he jerked his thumb at the Corona II, "--get in the way of enjoying ourselves, aye?"

Vivian nodded, still scowling, although a little less now.

The passerby on the dock would find an abrupt influx of Prussian-Poles, and a smattering of nationalities.
Most of the Prussian-Poles seemed to be re-enactors; dressed in white sailor's uniforms, they fanned out, in search of places where they could buy provisions for the journey home. Among them was a young, browned-haired man(?) with long brown hair done up in a ponytail and dark shades hiding his(?) eyes, as well as business-casual dress. An under-arm sling with a pistol could be seen.

With him(?) was a middle-aged man, and a young woman in the navy-blue winter uniform of a WW2-era female USN yeoman, with an M1 carbine slung over her back. They passed briefly by Helena and Lucía, with Helena getting a friendly wave from the woman, followed quickly by a hard stare for Lucía.

… a siren singing. Well, actually… one of the tour guides singing, as she is not yet needed. Several of the tour guides were lounging around, waiting for the morning customers to pile in. Odyssia spots them from the desk. One more shot of Habanero Rum after the first one should keep her energy and pep up. She waves to the weary few that have entered the ship.

“Ahoy me hearties!” Odyssia says. “The name’s Odyssia Katamura, the chairperson of the Cartoon Maritime Historical Preservation Society and the current owner of this fine ocean liner. A pleasure to make your acquaintance, and what do I owe the pleasure of serving?”

Gerald was undeterred by the fierce barking of the canine. He has hear worse on the high seas of the Pacific as a sailor in the second world war. It would seem that the owner has him under control.

"Oh, it's quite alright. I've encountered worse. Oh, but dogs are fiesty fellows aren't they? Umm... is it alright if I pet him?"

Predictably informal, the Crown Princess thought as she pasted on a smile. Helena had a chill setting, naturally, but somehow she felt even such a relaxed diplomatic interaction like this deserved a little more than "How y'all doing today?" Ah, well. One had to make allowances for new-money upstart families.

Jesus and Gloria received a professional but not unfriendly nod from a 5' 10" blonde in her mid-forties who looked like a girls' football coach silently sizing them up. Old age and treachery blah blah blah. She wasn't going to flash the badge: aside from the fact that her presence spoke for itself, the four were trying to maintain a relatively low profile.

"Thank you, sir... oh hell, I forgot to get any cash changed into Silbergulden. Unless you've got a calculator handy for whatever the exchange rate is between those and Brettain krone I hope you take plastic. Sorry about that." Elia dug a tastefully expensive-looking black credit card out of his wallet and handed it over, quietly adding "and I'll pay for whatever the girl behind me gets, too" with a wink in heavily accented but otherwise competent German. He'd seen her out of the corner of his eye when he'd turned and bent to tie his shoe, and aside from thinking she was pretty cute & wanting to make a little bit of a gesture it was just nice to be able to pay it forward.

His sandwich was great, at least. Very much a change of pace from what he'd normally have eaten for the most important meal of the day back home but it somehow worked here, he thought, looking over the harbour and leaning against a lamppost as he dug into his breakfast. If he squinted he could just barely make out- was that? It was. Well, that was a surprise and a half... half-sister, more accurately.

Waking up with Amy was always a nice scenario for Gerald. Himself clad in boxers and a white shirt and his dark hair in stark contrast to her silver, he couldn't help but notice the Sun as he opened his eyes. An arm slung around an Amy whose head was on his shoulder meant that he would have to wake her up, even if for a moment; breakfast in bed sounded like a fantastic idea, after all, and he would have to check up on the testing team anyway.

"What do you think?"
"Well, I don't see why we can't just restock," Lester replied. The ship's quartermaster was assessing the provisions to be resupplied onsite, and the idea of some new foodstuffs was quite appealing to the man as he chatted with one of the founding partners.
"In that case, sir, I'll have three of the crew make arrangements for delivery. What do you have in mind?
"Murata and I have plans for a mixer tonight. Nothing too fancy, just some good alcohol, hors d'oeurves...the sun deck would be a good place, don't you think?" The mixer would be a good opportunity to introduce Harrison, Murata, and Goco Consultants to a good number of people, and as VIA agents were indeed part of the workforce, it would also be an opportunity to establish some contacts down the line.
"Of course, sir."

Broodeheim Harbour

Alejandra "Janna" Takamaru and her bodyguard Katherine De Renzo had entered Broodeheim from their cruise ship. The cruise ship they'd come on was, well, as ordinary-looking as most fleets of cruise ships were.

Alejandra was a 6"2 tall woman from the Welstanville Isles of Sino-Japanese-American and Scottish descent, but looked more like her mother with her tan skin and darkish hair colour, sort of like a coconut brown. She wore a white T-shirt, plain, and jeans with ankle boots.

She was with her bodyguard Katherine De Renzo, a 5"4, dark-haired woman with glasses. Katherine, also known as Kitty, Kate, Katie-D, had worked for Alejandra for the past 3 years while also doing other bodyguard work.
They were more like good friends than boss and employee.

Katherine wore a black skirt suit and had knee-length boots on; she also heard various languages being spoken, including Lithuanian being shouted in the background. "NUSIVILK!" was shouted by a young woman in her 20s at some drunken man.

Alejandra had come here to get photos for her blog, and more importantly, the food, which was the topic for a five-post review miniseries.

Although Katherine was the bodyguard, it was more like vacation for her as there were no situations where her skills would be needed, apart from, maybe, defensive driving. She only really had an assistant role, but was paid as bodyguard due to contract stating as such.

Alejandra also had another motivation; to look around for a used car to import, her nation was right-hand-drive, so finding an RHD car was a challenge. She wondered if they'd have a Ford Lobo, which wasn't sold in The Welstanville Isles and the equivalent Chevrolet pickup wasn't that appealing, but she really wanted something like a Peugeot, Toyota or Volvo.

Importing wasn't the hard part, she was used to all the paperwork, it was finding the car showroom in Broodeheim, as she'd only done basic research.

Sunna Fischli.
The cute lad seemed to like it, which of course made the stall-worker smile.
He pulled out a device. “We do accept credit cards – saves a lot on the calculating time.”, he said and then turned to Julia – considering, that she was next in line and indecisive, and the guy would pay for a stranger, he decided to advice her: “Your friend seems to like the Pfeilfischbrötchen and they are a good introduction to our fast food.” He leaned over. “And not too expensive, if you don't mind me adding that.”
I snorted and grinned at the lad, then raised my own breadroll as if I did a toast.
Then I took a bite.

The old man smiled under his beard and sat down.
“Thank you.”
He exhaled as he could relax, undoubtedly tired from the early morning walk. He watched the crowd, young people and old people running past, excited chatting, people looking up to the large ships in awe... there were also people, who held his interest.
A group of elementary schoolers ran past with their chaprones, their leader dragging an Okunatursuran behind her. Two young women in bikini and hot pants went past, both of them greeting the old man with a small bow of the head, which he returned in kind. A small family walked past, too occupied with the excitement of their two sons to notice the two men and the nurse.
Hundreds of people.
“I love festival days.”, the old man said.

Katase wrote:Maaya & Uzume

Lien Sunnewirbele.
I had heard Jette's offer and with the newfound knowledge, that I was right, I smiled.
“It is a pleasure.”, I said and bowed my head lightly. People always said, that my pink eyes shone, when I was excited. “I am Lien Sunnewirbele, an actress from Ridderli. You might have caught an episode or two of Setzei...”
I let a beat pass, trailing off hopefully.
Granted, it was pretty unlikely, but that was another question.
I turned to the other two.
“These are Jette and Aaltje Schreyg, fellow actresses from Teressien.”
“Well, I'm a part-timer.”, Jette objected, smiling, “Aaltje is the big star.”
I nodded – that was true.
But soon...!

The Patunex's crew would have little issue with finding places, where they could buy provisions – the last warehouses of the Speicherstadt were dedicated to supplying ships being allowed in the Old Town Harbour. They would even prepare the delivery, but they would have to park the vessel alongside to take on the supplies after the festival was over.
More personal provisions could be bought in every store and they could even pay via card.

The brunette man(?), however, might have noticed the Capall na dTonn, the sailing vessel in the typical style of the Selkie in the harbour., not too far from the Patunex. The Marcharnnau was a vessel with a long tradition: In the 17th century, she had been around, being a pirate and a mercenary vessel, participated in the Lagrachan-War. Then, a vessel of that name was recorded during the Raid on the Kyrenaian Treasure Fleet in 1720, a number of other incidents...
Of course, this was not the same vessel. Wood was durable, but four centuries was a bit too much for ship.
No, this was a successor in name and in spirit – she was still a pirate vessel, only that she now 'raided' tourist vessels for a fee. Her crew were experienced pirates, after all, with centuries of expirience.
And while the vessel itself was open to the public for tours, that might not be the thing, which caught the man(?)'s eye – at the bow, a woman stood. She had light purple hair, long and bound back into a ponytail, and purple eyes. A sleeveless, white coat struggles to contain her bust, but neither that nor her mismatched footwear or the Kyrenaian Type 3 Sabre on her hip would catch the eyes.
Neither would be horns or the pointy ears.
No, the brunette man(?), if he looked at the woman at the bow, would be drawn into her eyes – ancient eyes, full of experience, of storms and cannon fire, of celebrations and joy, of boredom and of cleaning the hull. She gave a small nod to the man(?), then went towards the gangway.

Naya smiled.
The singer was not bad – quite on the contrary, the singer was good. But Naya turned back to the sailor, who had introduced herself as Odyssia Katamura.
“Call me Naya.”, she said and smiled. Odyssia did not need to know, who she was.

Aldhiyb, still sniffing and not barking, was under the control of the woman.
She nodded. “Offer him your hand to smell and if he accepts it, you can pet him.”, she told him with a smile. “Aldhiyb doesn't like to be petted by people he doesn't know.”
And with that, she snapped her fingers and the canine sat down, panting.
The young man, who accompanied the woman, joined their side with a short “Good morning.”, and received a kiss on the cheek from the woman for his troubles.

Much like the crew of the Patunex, the crew of the Spirit of Diamond could restock general supplies at the Speicherstadt – for more personal or eloquent supplies, like for a party on the Sun Deck, one could go in many shops all around the Harbour.
One could even order the hors d'oeurves, the cook of the Palais Husedahl and the businesses belonging to it, was of high renown and for the right money, he would prepare them for others.
But at the end of the day... where was the fun in that?
If the men walked the city's streets, they might even meet people, who they could befriend for mutual benefit...

Amy Ramallae of the Tribe of Monaghan.
Gerald stirred under me.
He had woken up and became aware of his surroundings. He was a nice man, he tried to be careful, but I wanted him to stay, if only for a few minutes... but I also knew, that he needed to work. This was a vessel on a test cruise, after all.
I opened my eyes and focussed on him with a smile.
My eyes were still sleepy.
“Good morning.”, I said and smiled at him. My hand on his chest felt his heart beat through the fabric of the shirt.
I had no idea, that he planned breakfast in bed.

The Welstanville Isles wrote:Broodeheim Harbour

Broodeheim had a few car show rooms, both for new cars and for used cars, but when one arrived on a cruise ship, one arrived at the cruise liner terminal of the Industrial Harbour – and when one was there, the closest dealership was not for cars alone, but for vehicles in general.
The Shleimmigge Gebrauchtsfahrzeughändler was a fenced off area close to the industrial harbour, with a small jetty for speedboats. They had those, they had cars, they had the odd truck or half-track. All of that was visible from the cruise liner's decks, or one could find that out with a quick internet search or by asking a local.
Shleimmigge had cars from all around the general area, from HMW, from Gabha Motorworks, from Walaea Motorworks – Ridderli had no automobile industry to speak of, so all cars had to be imported with such huge vessels like the vehicle cargo ship parked in front of the cruise liner Alejandra was disembarking from.
However, Alejandra would be hard pressed to find something from Ford or Chevrolet or Peugeot or Toyota or Volvo. Ridderli drove on the right, so at least that was not a problem.

“Schiff auf!”, I called to them in Teressian German, a traditional way of sailors to greet others, comparable to the Ahoy!. “If I may ask, is the Yuzu open for tourists?”

"Salutations, friend." Aina did manage to understand it was a greeting at least, a sea captain is bound to pick up a few words here and there on travels. "Indeed she is open for tourist viewing and probably even ready to serve breakfast if you're looking for a meal. Visitation is free but a meal charge of 10 Island Credits, a cabin stay is 100. My first mate --"

Yuzu actually interrupted "Captain, if I may? I'd like to give the first tour myself!"

"Huh, Yuzu, uuuh well okay?"

"Don't worry, we're here for a week, plenty of time today and the rest of the days to see everything. Please allow me?"

"Hehe, very well, okay." Aina cleared her throat to speak professionally "Well it seems Sailor Kotobuki here will be your guide for the first tour of the morning. She's actually a new member of her crew but she's enthusiastic and a captain likes enthusasim. Yuzu, go on then, I'll return to the bridge for the time being." She smiled at her and went back up.

"Welcome aboard the Yuzu she's a fine ship and steady sure! I'm honored to serve aboard her, having been a passenger once, just a few short years ago before starting my maritime career with the Good Captain Indou. She's storied and historied. And functional to that too, might surprise you but she's not a historical piece but a fully operational passenger vessel. We're an old fashioned sort in our islands "

Elia dug a tastefully expensive-looking black credit card out of his wallet and handed it over, quietly adding "and I'll pay for whatever the girl behind me gets, too" with a wink in heavily accented but otherwise competent German.

Julia

"One Pfeilfischbrötchen, please," Julia requested, the German word rolling effortlessly off her tongue. She was a fan of seafood, and one could not go wrong with a sandwich, especially one that was a local staple.

After she had paid and received her Pfeilfischbrötchen, she meandered toward the boy that had been in front of her. He seemed around her age, and, if she retained social skills even half a standard deviation above those of her mother and father, should would succeed in having a conversation with him--after she tried the Pfeilfischbrötchen, of course.

The Pfeilfischbrötchen was, despite its distinctly un-breakfast-like composition, delectable: soft bread with a crunchy, flaky shell perfectly complementing the vinegary pickles and onions that were nested within the roll. The fish, hearty and sweetened by the clear waters surrounding Ridderli, tasted more pure than Icelandic cod or fish from home, as though the flesh had the currents themselves captured within.

Julia did not express her reaction in such a ladylike manner. On the contrary, she let out a strangled "O mein Gott!" as soon as she absorbed the flavors. Upon swallowing, she coughed a bit, exclaimed, "This is amazing!" in Fardelshufflesteinian.

As she took another voracious bite, she caught the water-blue eyes of the other boy, who had his Pfeilfischbrötchen in hand. He had almost certainly observed her tearing into the sandwich like a complete barbarian. "Uh. Got a tad excited, I guess," she admitted lamely after the second bite had been sufficiently savored.

Wilhelm

He followed two small boys chasing after one another with his eyes, recalled being that small himself. He and Allie used to be that way, rollicking wantonly across the palace and New Hamletberg streets, inseparable for the first stretch of Wil's life despite their five-year age gap. Wil had gradually grown disillusioned with his brother pre-adolescence; when social standing began to matter, he distanced himself from his brother and best friend.

He had time to make up for his unruly and frankly despicable behavior now. 'Twas far too short a time to do so, five more years at best, but 'twas also ample time to be with Allie and actively bond with him. They would never frolic freely in the palace fields again, or anywhere for that matter, but mayhap they would become inseparable once more.

"I love festival days," commented his bench partner. Wil nodded and deduced the man was a local, though he could not be certain.

He shut his eyes for a moment, lulled into a sort of half-sleep by the crisp early morning air and his jet lag. His breath was steady, as was his heart rate. He had been warned not to be involved in too much excitement lest he experience a cardiac event, but he doubted one would occur whilst he reclined on a bench.

"Zis is my first time here," he finally murmured, voice a breathy croak. He opened his lids and made eyes contact with the other man. "I am not from zis country."

Al

The conversation he'd been so eager to eavesdrop in on was quickly becoming boring, but he wasn't about to wander away from a yacht called the Corona II, so he remained in place. He twiddled his thumbs and wondered if anyone would spot him, and, if they did, whether they would recognise him. He supposed that if Julia or Uncle Wil saw him, they'd figure he was up to no good and draw him away from the Corona II, because of course he wasn't up to any good.

He thought of taking out his phone again and playing on it, but decided that wouldn't be interesting enough. What he really needed to do, or wanted to do, was cause a bit of a stir. Nothing that anyone would notice, but a definitive act of mischief--like carving his initials into a bench. He didn't have the tools for that, though, so he settled instead for a more tame activity: disruption.

He knew how to introduce himself properly, being a prince and all, but he'd never done it except when he absolutely had to. As he made his way toward the pale lasses and yellow-dressed woman (and the other one who had blue hair), he steeled himself for a world of hurt, but he ultimately didn't care. He was here to have fun, right?

Halfway there, he stopped himself. This was completely stupid. It served no purpose, and 'twould not be fun. And now he was in the same situation as before, except they would almost certainly notice him now, and judge him for being the fool he ultimately was.

"And an excellent morning to you too," Gerald replied, with a smile of his own, and a free hand moving Amy's off his chest. "How does pancakes for breakfast in bed sound like to you?" he then asked; he knew the breakfast rotation beforehand, fully aware that Saturday meant there would be pancakes for breakfast, with some oatmeal for the vegans already earmarked. Alternatively, there were sardine omelettes and the occasional burrito available for anyone who wanted something more filling.

Leading the testing team meant Peter had some midnight oil in need of burning the night before, leaving him with only three hours of sleep. The exhaustion was somewhat visible even after his second cup of coffee, and he was having a sardine omelette with a burrito on the side to try and speed up the process of transitioning from half-asleep to bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Only three hours in bed would be hell for anyone, let alone the current Branch Manager of Victoria Shipyards - Selkie Branch, VAI's first foray into expanding beyond the borders of the Confederation, and the crew and testing team knew it.

It was Meredith who would be riding herd on the three crewmembers tasked by the ship's quartermaster to go on a supply run. Good, too, as she would be the face of the supply run; the tab would go on her company card, and she knew exactly what the mess staff had in mind for the night's mixer. Noticing the Capall na dTonn and the Patuxent, she started to wonder...before taking discreet shots of the tourist vessel and the oiler and moving back to where the crewmembers were at. Supplies in need of replenishment were not something one could simply sit on, after all.

By now, Al's presence was starting to generate extra interest and scrutiny from Jesús and Gloria, the two bodyguards standing watch over the Spanish imperial princess and her friend. For although several people had come and gone, the boy in the T-shirt and swim trunks was still standing there, staring intently at the group and their imposing vessel in the background. Sure, this could just be an innocent kid having some fun, but there was a non-zero chance he could be some sort of secret agent, recruited by Spain's enemies (of which there were many) to assassinate, kidnap or poison the Princess. In any case, they were not going to take any chances by letting him approach. Instead, one of them would go up to him and find out his intentions, while the other stayed with the group.

Leaning toward Jesús, Gloria whispered something to him in Spanish. Jesús gave a quick nod, adjusted his tie a little and walked over to Al, maintaining the friendly and courteous demeanor of his servant persona. "How has your morning been, my friend?" he asked the boy in slightly accented English. "You look a little down. Are you lost?"

catch the eye of the curious travellers from Abetton about Broodeheim was, that it was very different from their homecountry.

The Gram Family

The morning was coming along so nicely, what a beautiful day! The younger twins holding hands together and walking just a step ahead of their parents who brought up the rear, certainly this place was different from home but oh well, no matter. "Sure are a lot of people here!" Cordelia said "Mhm" Ophelia nodded in agreement with her sister. Though twins and close as can be, their personalities were a bit different, Cordelia was more outgoing and confident, Ophelia was more shy and timid liking more her sister to be the standout. "It's nice but it is warming up quick, hope it doesn't get too hot." Katy thought.

Candle Cove, their home town was a port nestled on the far northwestern corner of Abetton, thus tended to be a bit cooler and temperate, even in summertime, so you could say they weren't prepared for a far warmer place. It seemed her thoughts were answered as they were approached by someone with a fair warning about possibly melting. CJ did get a pretty good chuckle out of that, "Is that so? Perhaps we're under prepared for our visit here."

"Sounds like it, maybe a good suggestion of a place to get a good change of clothes?" Katarina requested with a smile. "Anything should be okay providing it's affordable."

The twins meanwhile couldn't help but stare rather bug eyed at the unique women with the animal ears, it's something they read about in textbooks but never seen in real life in their tiny seaside hamlet.

"Girls, it's not nice to stare, say hello" their mother gently reminded them patting their heads

"Oh sorry. Hello!" Cordelia greeted

"Hello." Ophelia also greeted.

"Hehe there you go." Their mother giggled placing her hands on their shoulders.

The Ahorangi Family

"Ahoy right back at ya!" Anahera greeted as they were called out. "What do you say, girls, wanna go aboard?"

"Sure!" The two sisters agreed. "Yes, please!" Winika agreed "Thank you, sir!"
