Not an OP, but speaking as a RL Midwestern transplant in the East Coast, I find it very unlikely that someone born and raised in NYC would willingly move to WY of all places, especially without some stronger rationale or ties to the state or the city of Cheyenne (unless she’s a carpetbagger, which makes her whole political experience all the more unlikely). Was she a Republican when she sat in the neighborhood council (of *Brooklyn*)?

Additionally, as much as I’d love for more Congressional Republicans to have those kinds of views, they’re far and few in between, especially as a Republican running for Congress *in 2020*. It would have been one thing if she’d spent a long time cultivating support from the ground up, because of or despite her views, but she’d only lived in Cheyenne since 2012 and was its mayor since 2014 (also, how many people can credibly run for office and win it within two years of moving to that city or state?). It’s unlikely voters would have genuinely agreed with her or been willing to look past it in favor of other, more GOP-aligned positions she had.

And finally, where does her net worth come from? I doubt neighborhood council and mayor of Cheyenne pay that much, unless both of her parents were filthy rich and died mysterious deaths leaving her to be some kind of heiress.

So she's a Republican with entirely Democratic stances, in one of the most Republican districts in the nation, who would absolutely be opposed by the most powerful man in Wyoming politics?

I'm saying a few things as a lifelong resident of Wyoming.
In real life, Trump beat Biden by 43 points in Wyoming. Wyoming would be very pro Wolf, probably the most pro Wolf state in the Union. Liz Cheney could easily lose her seat for opposing him.
Public transit on a large scale is unworkable in Wyoming due to the sheer size of the state and the low population density. No city in Wyoming has over 70,000 people.
Environmentalism is a toxic issue for Wyoming Republicans. Our state is almost completely dependent on coal, oil, and gas for its revenue. You either have to declare your opposition to environmental extremism or be a Democrat.
The average Wyomingite voter doesn't give a damn about Taiwan or Korea. They care more about their checkbook when voting.
Accusations of carpetbagging are a powerful force in Wyoming politics. It can easily destroy a candidate here.
And if you make her a Democrat, there is no way in hell she gets elected to federal office. The last time a Democrat was elected to federal office was when Jimmy Carter was on the top of the ticket. To be elected to federal office as Democrat, you'd need an extremely popular Democratic candidate, a very strong top of the ticket, and an extremely unpopular Republican Presidential Candidate, an very unpopular statewide candidate, and likely a strong third party campaign to split the vote.

I agree with Yarquo's critiques.

I will say that if you polish this character up a bit and fix those issues, they do have a natural ally in my own GOP representative Diane Paulson, who is a similarly liberal Republican.

I'll also add that a liberal Republican like your character would be more successful in New Hampshire, Vermont (think Phil Scott), upstate New York (think John Katko), Colorado, the OC area of California, or maybe the suburbs near Seattle. (I'd say MT or ME too, but we have a lot of characters from both of those states). Wyoming is likely too socially-conservative for someone like that.

His father was an Arab physician with a small clinic in Beirut, and his mother was an Assyrian full-time mother raising him and his siblings in addition to being a prominent local women’s rights activist. They were both Sunni Muslims and prominent local supporters of the National Liberal Party. He would begin to assist his father in the clinic at the age of 11 as the Lebanese Civil War ensured there was plenty of people in need. His father would help people even if they were incapable of paying, and this would continue till his father and mother were both killed in a bombing in 1995. I mean the point is that my character is not going to run for office nor do I have any want to create a politician character for this rp at this time. I hardly think I need to make a sitting representative character to learn how to have my non-politician character discuss bills and give commentary on the actions of political office holders to his viewers. I simply noticed the lack of non-politician characters.

Character Country/State of Birth: Puerto Rico
Character State of Residence: Puerto Rico
Character Party Affiliation:
Popular Democratic Party (2006 - Present)
    Democratic (2017 - Present)
Main Strengths:
Main Weaknesses:
Biography: Natalia Luisa Santiago Diaz was born on June 26, 1978 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to upper-middle class parents. Her father, Antonio Luis Santiago Cruz was a respected lawyer and elected official serving a single term in the House of Representatives of Puerto Rico. Her mother Carmen Natalia Diaz Dalmau is a retired professor of Cultural Studies who during her time at the University of Puerto Rico worked on researching the culture of the island.

Natalia attended private elementary through high school education where she learned to be fluent in English, among other things. She studied public affairs at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus and earned a Master's degree in 2003. Following her graduation, Natalia worked in the San Juan Town Hall, focusing on a wide range of administrative tasks.

Santiago Diaz was first elected to public office at the age of 32, taking her father's old seat in the House of Representatives in 2008. Focusing on uplifting the poor, she quickly gained recognition as one of the more progressive members of the assembly, although many of her ideas were shelved during her first term in office. Seeing that she won't be able to achieve much legislatively during that time, Natalia focused on developing her professional relationships with other members of her caucus.

When the PDP captured the House, Senate and Governorship in 2012 she was appointed as an Assistant to the Speaker of the House. During her second term, Santiago Diaz was able to push through some of her legislative priorities such as a school lunch program that currently provides lunch to approximately 83% of all students in PR, as well as better funding for public transportation.

When the Popular Democratic Party returned to minority in 2016, Santiago Diaz was elected as its House Minority Leader and began to be considered for the party's nomination for Governor in 2020. Following Hurricane Maria, Natalia was deeply involved in relief effort, personally helping to deliver food and other necessities to those affected and appeared on news network television in mainland US. Outraged by the lack of response from the Republican-controlled federal government, she joined the Democratic Party in 2017.

We lack non-political characters because it's a political game. Opportunities for interaction and roleplay are severely limited without one.

NS Nation Name:

Character Height: uh, womanly
Character Weight: very skinny and sexy!
Character Position/Role/Job: Governor of Puerto Rico (since 2021)
Character Country/State of Birth: Puerto Rico
Character State of Residence: Puerto Rico
Character Party Affiliation:
    Citizen's Unity Alliance (2020-Present)
    Citizen's Victory Movement (2019-Present)
    New Progressive (???? - 2019)
Main Strengths: Seen as an anti-corruption champion/"Average Jane", grassroots support
Main Weaknesses: Plays really dirty, opportunism could come back and haunt her, wannabe autocrat
Biography: Santiago Diaz took a keen interest in the Citizen's Victory Movement during its founding, but did not officially join until Telegramgate broke, using the scandal to build her own political capital, creating a media circus centered around herself and substantially raising her profile as an anti-corruption activist. She would rise to the leadership of the party late that year largely due to her involvement in the negotiations between the Movement, the Puerto Rico Independence Party and Project Dignity to regarding the Citizen's Unity Alliance, a political anti-corruption coalition that came to existence in 2020, just in time for the gubernatorial election.

Taking part in the newly created alliance's primaries, she won the first round with 40.7% of the vote and secured her nomination in the run-off, winning 65% of the vote mainly due to the PIP's and CVM's voting blocks. Campaigning on anti-corruption, fair working standards and fixing the island's fiscal problems, Natalia became a serious contender and August 2020 polls showed her fighting for second place with the Popular Democratic Party's candidate. Wanting to get the endorsement of [not- Carmen Yulín Cruz], Diaz covertly supported a misinformation campaign that alleged the PDP's primaries were not conducted in an entirely fair manner and that the aforementioned candidate was deeply affected by that circumstance. Following a lengthy meeting in the island's capital, the two women came to an agreement and joined forces at the start of September. With that, Diaz surpassed her opponent for the second place and started plotting her way up to the very top. Bombarding the voters with negative ads about the socioeconomic situation brought about by the NPP's leadership as well as the Federal government's handling of the situation on the island, especially in relation to natural disasters, she began to tie her strongest opponent for the first place, delivering the final blow during the last pre-election debate, successfully tying him to the 2019 Telegramgate scandal and bringing up his own history of awful remarks.

On election day, following a very nasty fight, Natalia Santiago Diaz was elected as the island's 14th Governor with 35% of the vote, breaking the long-standing duopoly. At the same time, the Alliance won 20 seats in the House of Representatives and 11 in the Senate, leaving no clear majority in either chamber.

I've had two different active journalist characters in past versions of the RP.

My biggest concern about a journalist character is that they can be really fun for awhile for interviews, but can wreak havoc on the RP as a whole. The reason is that a journalist essentially has nothing to lose...we have no mechanism for firing a journalist who makes inflammatory statements in the RP that would get them fired IRL. In contrast, a problematic Congressman can have their committee assignments revoked and face electoral repercussions for their actions.

I'm not opposed to you having a journalist character, but I do think the OPs will be very cautious about it (for realism purposes), especially if you don't have any politician characters.

We in this RP have a much stricter code of realism than some other RPs, characters are rarely rejected outright, but I am prepared to say that both refugee journalist man and Asian-American Liberal Republican from Wyoming are both outright rejectable, there is no workaround I can offer for either recourse. Those looking to apply with a character who has a refugee background should age them well into their forties and fifties if they arrived as a child and sixties and seventies if older; those aiming for Liberal Republicanism should hold off for the immediate future and wait until such time as they can apply to be a Governor of a state like Massachusetts or Vermont where their views are actually considered normal.

On another note, Liberal-Moderate Republicans and Moderate-Conservative Democrats are both overrepresented right now so future apps that are in this strain of character will be under much heavier scrutiny until the imbalance resolves itself.

Final note tonight from me, I have been under some heavy Uni-driven strain, as I move into the last four weeks of my undergraduate study, if the Roster is not updated, it will eventually be, en masse.

As always any questions, TG or Discord me and I'll reply as quick as I can, my activity as far as big ticket items for the next few weeks will however be a little lower :(

Character Application and Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Rhim Flavezztowland
Character Name: Sidney Larsen-Cheng
Character Gender: Female
Character Age: 25
Character Height: 151 cm
Character Weight: 44 kg
Character Position/Role/Job: Representative of New York's 14th Congressional District
Character Country/State of Birth: New York
Character State of Residence: New York
Character Party Affiliation: Democrat
Main Strengths: She's brave enough to speak up against all forms of hate groups.
Main Weaknesses: She has a mild case of ADHD and also sometimes comes late to House hearings.
Biography: A natural-born American citizen, Sidney Larsen-Cheng was born on December 29, 1995 in the Bronx borough of New York City to a naturalized Chinese-born restaurant-owning father who migrated with his own parents to the States at the age of 9 in the early 1970s due to China's Cultural Revolution and a natural-born American chef mother. When she was 11, her father was murdered in a hit-and-run car accident; her mother inherited her husband's estate (including his Chinese restaurant in the City Island neighborhood of the Bronx) upon his death and went on to transform the Chinese restaurant into a local diner.

When Sidney was in high school, she started working part-time as a chef at her mother's local diner; she'd later enroll herself at Lehman College at the age of 18, where she'd study for a Bachelor's degree in Political Science for the next three years because of her interest in politics while still being a part-time diner chef. At the age of 21, she graduated with the aforementioned Bachelor's degree and decided to become a state politician for New York's Democrats; it'd take her a few years until she got elected to the House of Representatives as the representative of New York's 14th congressional district in the 2020 elections.
