SCORINATION, RP, BONUS & CUTOFFS

As described in the OOC thread, I will be using the rugby union sevens function of xkoranate 0.3.3. Ranks from the past R7WC 5 & 6, Coff 7’s & AVBF 6 tournaments are being used, based off this NSRB 7’s ranking chart. Aside from previous earned rank, RP will be your other main form of gaining skill points for your team. Quality over quantity is preferred, as always. Posting a roster will be rewarded with points as well.

Due to the large disparity in rank of the top 10 ranked R7 nations and the rest of the field, roster and RP bonus will be very generous to quickly overcome this gap.

As stated before, cutoffs will be between 01:00 - 02:00 UTC, although I will alert you all via the OOC thread should there be a change. PLEASE keep aware of the OOC/RL schedule as there are some days that will be skipped for scorination, and other days (weekends) that will be scored in a row.

The standard rugby sevens points system will be in effect for this tournament where: 3 points are awarded for a win, 2 for a draw, 1 for a loss.

Tiebreakers will be (in order):
1. Head-to-head result between the tied teams.
2. Difference in points scored and allowed during pool play.
3. Points scored during pool play.
4. Coin toss (higher RP points).

The Everything Thread is for the participants, but if a sponsor, vendor, or other Festival contributor would like to RP, they can TG me for permission.
The AVBF is going for 3 IC days. Like the previous couple years, there is no longer a social IC thread, just the rugby competition. ICly, the beer, ales, meads, etc. categories would be judged in two batches over the first two IC days and the spirits/liquors would be judged on the third final day.

TG me or use the OOC Thread for any questions or commentary. Thank you.

WELCOME

This is your guide to the festivities and the fun making! This is the Seventh Annual Alpen View Beer Festival. If you hold this guide pamphlet in your hands, you are in our fair city of Burgunden, the main financial center and more importantly, the center for craft brewing in the Confederacy of Neu Engollon. It is by far, the largest city in the Confederacy, at over 14 Million in the greater Burgunden metro area. Also, this city happens to be home to TeremBev/Burgunden Breueries, the co-main organizers and main sponsors of the event. The other main organizer is the Neu Engollon Ministry of Tourism and Culture, headquartered in the center of the Confederacy’s government in Geneva..
There are, of course, several other generous and helpful sponsors from across the Multiverse.

There is a lot to do at the Fest besides eat and sample award winning beverages. We suggest you check out the many tourist, entertainment, and company sponsor tents around the main and exhibition grounds. You may want to explore the rest of our peaceful, panoramic nation after the Brew Festival has ended, and there are plenty of other things to do in Burgunden if you happen to branch away from the Festival Grounds. You may find brochures and travel information on Burgunden and Neu Engollon at the Confederacy Park Box Office, Gendarme Security Station, and at the Pavilion Help Desk. Also, any questions can be directed to our friendly help staff wearing special orange vests. Enjoy yourselves, but please be safe and be respectful of others around you.

STAYING IN OR GETTING AROUND IN THE CITY

Some places to stay if you haven't booked a room yet in Burgunden:

* Presarius Plaza Hotel H$$$$
* The Menton H$$$$
* Destination Chateau Burgunden H$$$$
* Alpha Lofts H$$$
* Collections Hotel H$$$
* Paradise Hotel H$$
* Hayden Hotel H$$
* Rock House & Studios H$$
* Summervale Gardens B&B H$$
* Tell's Inn H$$
* Alpenhorn Tavern H$$
* Motel Mertach H$
* BB Hostel H$

We recommend against trying to find parking for rental cars near the Festival grounds. Besides the fact that parking will be almost non-existent and pay parking lots fill up fast, laws on drunk driving are also very strict, should you be imbibing the fine beverages offered. We want everyone to stay safe, ultimately. There will be bus and metro train service throughout the night for nominal fees. There will be plenty of taxis, and other driver services. They will always be lined up outside the gates to take you back to your hotels. Also, watch for the green mini-van shuttles, as they have certain hours, but are free shuttles to the premier hospitality district of Burgunden where several hotels are located.

THE GROUNDS

Confederacy Park is almost as old as Burgunden itself. The grounds are laid out simply with the main stage and the Pavilion in the middle and the participants' tents, aid station, security station and port-a-john stations around the walls of the park enclosure. Adjoining the main Festival grounds are the rugby pitches on the auxiliary exhibition grounds. Pavilion admittance will only be for VIP guests (3rd/top floor) and special 2nd Floor ticket holders or Invited guests. Again, please utilize our friendly staff in the orange vests for directional questions.

THE BEVERAGE MAKERS

The brewers and distillers are some of the best from around the globe and have brought their craft to show off here in the backyard of Neu Engollon's premier brewing City. They have submitted a selection of their best offerings for the judging. They will also be serving most of these selections as well as many other surprise selections at their tents located throughout the grounds. See the map for tent location. Beverages will be served in various sizes, such as 3oz samplers, 8 oz or 10 oz glasses, 16 oz pints and some may even offer take home growlers, single bottles, 4-6 bottle packs, or cases. Many will also be serving examples of international cuisine and merchandise from their brewery/distillery, as well as some other alcoholic offerings. Check their tents, as pricing and menus should be posted.

THE JUDGING

The main purpose of the Beer Festival is to have a fun, friendly competition for many of the top beers and liquors from around the world. There are several Categories in which beers will be judged, with a couple categories being judged each day. Some of the categories of fiercest competition are for Pale Ales, IPAs, Lagers, Stouts and Amber/Red Ales.

There are several breweries and distilleries competing in the AVBF this year. The judges are a panel of beverage experts gathered from around the world's most prestigious brewcraft and distillery regions.

ATTENDANCE

We are expecting thousands upon tens of thousands of attendees, many of them local to the Burgunden area, but many more from across Neu Engollon and Teremara. We will also have quite an outer-regional international presence including some celebrities, royalty and dignitaries from across the globe.

Tickets will be sold in group packages, Full Festival 3 Day Passes and 1 Day passes. Sales of tickets are available up through the last day of the Festival until they last and capacity is reached. Attendees are allowed to re-enter the grounds upon leaving, if their ticket is for that day, but they are subject to search again upon re-entry. A wristband will be issued for re-entry. The Pavilion has three levels. The ground level seating and second level boxes are available for sale through to the last day of the Festival, or subject to availability. Third level boxes are reserved for advance sold VIP spots and Government and top corporate personnel only. No outside food or drink is allowed in except for sealed water bottles.

PERFORMERS

There is a wide variety of musical performers and other entertainers that will be engaging and rocking the crowd. Some are from Neu Engollon and some are from the International Community. They are listed below in no particular order of importance. There are so many performers this year that we think music will be a primary focus of the festival this year, dare we say possibly eclipsing the excitement over the beer and other beverages?

On The Main Stage:

The Chrysalides A pop rock band from Gylias with some notoriety outside their home nation and region of Tyran. They are returning for their sixth appearance in the Confederacy at the AVBF. Please join us in welcoming them back!

Alpen Volken Circle A folk group that plays traditional favorites and several styles from around Neu Engollon. They originate from Ludenthal, NE. They have returned to play the AVBF every year.

Frigid Mares A favorite act that call Panoli, Neu Engollon home, they play a rich tapestry of rock and roll that takes influences from some of the old 60's garage rock and melds indie, new wave and electro clash influences to that foundation. They have played every AVBF and hope to keep on that trend. Along with the Servonaris, they are part of the southern coastal Neu Engollian music scene that has really come up over the last few years.

The Podunkers Neu Engollon's Podunkers play a fusion of punk rock, Celtic rock, reggae and ska with some other styles blended in. They are one of the most popular musical acts in Neu Engollon and have been active as a group for almost 30 years. They call this big brewing city home, and many of their songs are about life in the large metropolis, social strife and the economic disparity that is often an intense topic these days. They are a staple of the AVBF circuit.

The Servonaris This band hails from San Remo, and plays a blistering set of garage and surf rock. They built up quite a following in the southern cantons of Neu Engollon, subsequently taking the center and north of the country by storm, as well as many other parts of the Madurin continent in Teremara. They have been returning every year since 2016.

Groma The legendary early 1970’s Glam rock band from Ciavno have seen a resurgence in following as glam rock has made a big comeback around Teremara. They are an old classic favorite of many Neu Engollians from a few generations now. They played their first Festival appearance after several decades apart and in obscurity, and have now returned for the last five years.

On The DJ Stage:

DJ Goat Smasha Plays a mix of Goth dance, electronic, and Industrial re-mixes with a backdrop of some eerie videos and lights. Burgunden's own, you can often find him behind the boards at the Black Box club.

DJ Taunt Plays soul, reggae, ska and dub music, sometimes contributing his own sampled vocals and guitar stylings. From the capital, Geneva, in Geneva Canton, NE.

Jay Gwar Likes to spin all kinds of rock and roll, but especially glam and any rock that has a boogie dance groove to it. From Albertville, Rhone, NE.

Dragon Drop This eclectic and exciting woman spins every kind of music under the sun and surprises at every turn with the odd and interesting mixes she comes up with, but no matter their randomness, her mixes always seem to move the crowd to dance. She hails from Schwartzgarten, Grisbenden, NE.

IN CONCLUSION

Image

It is my pleasure to once again open the Alpen View Brew Festival, which is without doubt the largest scale event my Ministry organizes for the City. Most certainly it is the largest event in the Confederacy and possibly one of the biggest in the region, and it keeps growing every year.

We hope that you are able to taste our local cuisine and beverages, that of the region, and many from crafters and vendors from around the multiverse that have come to show off the best their people have to offer and compete for top prizes in the beverage judging or just to please the taste buds of you fine festival attendees.

The Rugby Sevens tournament that is part of the festival has 24 top sporting nations from around the world who have sent their best to compete on the pitch for the Alfredo Maracalo Cup, named for the man who first brought rugby to the Confederacy over 80 years ago. I hope that you are able to catch some of the matches.

Rest assured that every domestic law enforcement, security and intelligence agency is diligent in ensuring that you only have to worry about getting home or to your hotel after a long day of indulgence in smells, tastes, sights and sounds. We have staff waiting to assist you in that, as well.

Welcome world leaders, brewers, distillers, sponsors, exhibitors, dignitaries, entertainers, food purveyors, rugby players, fans, and attendees! Enjoy yourselves!
Neu Engollon is happy to have you here in our large, bustling city of Burgunden, in our proud Confederacy, in the grand region that we call home, Teremara.

Sincerely,
Rosette Kozic
Minister of Tourism and Culture, The Confederacy of Neu Engollon

Republic of Port Ember
Port Ember Rugby Union Sevens Squad
"Thunder Dragons"

Brief Overview of Port Ember

The Republic of Port Ember is a nation located within the Northern Ocean geographical region, and consists out of a large tropical archipelago, comprised of several large inhabited islands, and hundreds smaller, uninhabited islands and islets, stretching thousands of kilometres into every direction.

The Republic is considered to be a regional superpower, a strong international power and an international economic giant, being one of the wealthiest nations in the multiverse.

This tropical nation is governed as a constitutional democracy in the form of a Republic, and is considered by many to be the international haven for personal liberty, free market capitalism, consumerism and vice.

Economy wise, the Republic has become a beacon for science & education, information technology, financial services, healthcare, international trade and heavy industry, with the nation boasting some of the lowest unemployment rates and highest low income brackets in the multiverse.

It's society is famously (infamously?) known for their individual freedoms and love for world trade & travel, rum (including the occasional bar brawl), pursuit of wealth, legalised drugs and beach parties, with the government practicing a philosophy of minimal intervention within the daily lives of their citizens.

On the international stage, the Republic has frequently and constantly flexed its military & political muscle, engaging in countless wars of intervention, in the pursuit of spreading capitalism, liberty and human rights. In recent years, these wars have awarded them with two colonies, namely Braziliztan and Port Arthur.

Team History

Despite Rugby Union being a very popular sport within the Republic, it never managed to garner the sufficient economical and political support it required in order to compete on the international stage - instead remaining confined to university and local private club level.

Just prior to the commencement of the 28th rendition of the Rugby World Cup, the local and university teams gathered together a ragtag team, and managed to earn an invite to the grandest stage of them all for their sport. As could be expected, it went absolutely terribly. The team played four matches in the group stages - losing all four matches, without picking up a single try.

Despite the utter humiliation that the team, and the entire nation by extension suffered at the hands of the World Cup - it did result in a silver lining. The ruling government realised that there was an ever growing demand for the sport to be taken seriously on a national level - and in reply, the Port Ember Rugby Union (PERU) was established, in an effort to professionalise the sport.

Immediately after its formation, PERU followed the example of the Port Ember Football Association, and established a young international team which consisted of young talent who had zero club affiliations at that moment. The idea was to train up a national team of players, to conform to international standards and skills - who could be assigned to newly established professional clubs, after international exposure and a new fanbase were established, which would raise the standard of the sport throughout the nation.

This project was launched with one Garry Keeves as the head coach, training the team everyday for 4 years. Just prior to the commencement of World Cup 29, Garry left the project, and was replaced by Alex Renvier, hailing from Neu Engollon, in an attempt to lead the team to glory and experience.

World Cup 29 was thus considered to be the first "unified, professional" attempt at international rugby for the nation. Despite achieving poor results on paper, failing to move past the group stages, the team did manage to show tremendous promise, putting up spectacular displays of skill and passion against some of the best teams in the sport.

Now, PERU has established a brand new Sevens Squad, hoping to use this team as a development camp, hoping to add vital skills and experience to their national players.

The team is affectionately known as "The Lightning Dragons", by their fans and the media - in reference to the team's logo, which itself is based on the nation's national animal - the Komodo Dragon, with the added 'Lightning' to honour the fast pace of the game.

Typical Playstyle:

Unlike the 15 Squad, who relies heavily on their slow yet powerful forwards to wear down their opponents with bone crushing drives and defence, the 7's Squad was established and developed to focus on speed, agility, technical progress and aggression. In summary, this squad will play simple running rugby - drive forward - and pass the ball!

Fans:

Despite the spectacular interest and support towards Port Emberian rugby from its citizens, Seven a side rugby is a new concept, and subsequently does not enjoy the same level of overwhelming support, yet.

However, since this sport code is considered more 'casual' than its standard sister, it has drawn more families/couples into the game's support base, especially considering the fact that the sport is normally combined with festivals.

The official fanclub of the squad is known as "The Traveling Buccaneers", and members can be identified at the games due to being painted completely blue with body paint, and some wielding trumpets.

Rugby is the third most popular sport in Elejamie, behind ice hockey and football (or soccer; American football is called "gridiron" and is considered a niche sport at best). Rugby union is the most popular form in Elejamie, with rugby league having a small but loyal fanbase. However, it wasn't until 2016 when there finally was an officially sanctioned rugby sevens tournament was announced: The ERC 7s, which begins on the fourth Friday of August and lasts for three days. Simply put, all twelve teams in that season's ERC (Elejamian Rugby Championship) are divided into two groups of six and play a single round robin tournament to see whether they'll play for the Cup, the Plate or the Bowl. The first group's games are played on the Friday, the second group's games are played on the following Saturday and the semi-finals, 3PPOs and Cup/Plate/Bowl finals are played on Sunday afternoon/evening. The sixth tournament in Alvis saw the Avon Knights win the Cup after a sloppy second half in their 24-20 match against the Coventry Wyverns, the Iceland Panthers won back to back plates with a 17-3 win over the Auckhampton Birch Trees and the Edgebaston Warriors avenged their Bowl loss with an incredibly narrow 16-15 win over CR Los Reyes.

Sevendian roster for the AVBF Rugby 7's 7

What is a Sevendia?
Good question. Sevendia is a small, seven shaped country in Sonnel. At about 777,777 inhabitants, it isn’t a big or relevant nation. Sevendia rarely joins international sports, possibly because international sports don’t involve enough sevens to their liking. Everything is 7 in Sevendia. This is not an over exaggeration. Therefore, when they heard that there would be a World Cup in Sevens, they immediately jumped at the chance. This is also the seventh edition. You can have everything.

RP permissions:
This is a meme puppet. Do whatever floats your boat. Kill ‘em, ‘slice em, dice ‘em, make them a farmer in remote Ko-oren, I don’t care. Go have some fun.

Roster:

Coaching staff:
Seven-Seven Seventy-Seven (49)
The coach with the admittedly non-ideal name is responsible for all of the team. There are no other coaches. Due to the complexity of his name, he is mostly referenced as “91”. He also got 14 wins with the baseball team at the Classic twice, and led the football team to 4th place at the 7NC, and led the 7ball team to the ICo7ball, and did well in the other Rugby Sevens tournament. Yes, he coaches these teams too.

Forwards
P: Sev-Seven Nguyen
H: Sevaka-Seven Jorden
P: Severaino-Seven Freemen

Backs
SH: Sevilen-Seven Olsen
FH: Sevyn-Seven Warren
C: Severin-Seven Garden
W: Severence-Seven Hansen

Substitutes
P: Severus-Seven O’Brien
H: Severino-Seven Jensen
SH/FH: Sevastian-Seven Loven
C: Severn-Seven Seven
W/C: Sevonar-Seven Sven

Things you probably should know
All (adult) people in Sevendia are seven foot. Always.
In every sentence, people currently being in Sevendia are required by law to use all the letters of the word seven (e, n, s, v) in every sentence they say.
The answer is always seven. The question is also always seven.
Everything that could theoretically be seven-shaped is seven-shaped.
Everything that can’t be seven-shaped is also seven-shaped.
All objects are required to have a 7 on them, including everything.
Seven.

Republic of Jumnia Rugby Union Sevens Squad
"Sky Ravens"

Brief Overview of Jumnia

The Republikk av Jumnia, or Republic of Jumnia, is a sovereign nation located upon the north eastern corner of the Tavlyrian continent, with a population of twenty five million nationals.

The nation is located within a fully arctic region, which ensures that the nation suffers from long, harsh winters, and short, mild summers, and are affected by two natural phenomenons known as the [i]Midnight Sun
, where the sun does not set, between 19 April to 23 August, and thus maintains daylight for the entire duration, and the Polar Night, where the sun does not rise, between 13 November and 29 January, and thus remains dark for the entire duration.

The nation is bordered to the north and east by the Tavlyrian Ocean, whilst its entire western border is demarcated by the Jerral Mountain Range, which forms both a geographic and political border shared with the nation of Glisandia. The southern edge of the region is dominated by an arctic forest known locally as the Gruthean Forest, which also forms the southern border with the Yellow Star Republic.

The nation is governed by a Parliamentary Republic with an executive President, led by President Gregor Fredriksen. The Republic's administration is overseen by the Executive Branch of Government, which consists of the Republic's President, Vice President and Cabinet Ministers. The nation is split into nine regional areas, known as Holds, which serves in a similar fashion to provinces in other nations.

The Republic of Jumnia has deemed two languages as its official languages: Jumnian and English. All Jumnian citizens can speak both languages, as both languages are mandatory to be taught as a first language in school, and all aspiring immigrants need to pass a language test in both languages before being able to be granted citizenship.

The Jumnian language is the language which had evolved from the ancient Aquilonian language which the original settlers had spoken when they first settled the region. The language had evolved and adapted to the new influences which surrounded them, and has grown to become a distinct language. English was chosen to become an official language, in order to be able to effectively communicate with the remainder of the continent in the early 18th century. The populace refers to English informally as the "Common Tongue".

The Republic's official state religion is Jumnian Paganism, and is highly intertwined with the daily governance of the nation. For example, all members of Parliament and Cabinet must be members of the Pagan Circle of Jumnia. The religion is characterised as Druidic, and an extremely decentralised and individually themed religion. This means in effect, that no central authority scriptures exist, and neither does public, central places of worship.

Spiritual lessons and traditions are carried over orally, although many authors have written about their individual views and traditions. All practitioners of this faith belongs to an institution known as Pagan Circle of Jumnia, and is in itself a very decentralised organisation, with no central authority.

Despite the fact that Jumnian Paganism is the official state religion, the Republic does guarantee freedom of religion. The second largest religion in terms of followers are Christianity, especially Protestants, with 2 million citizens identifying as christians, while 5 Million citizens identify themselves as non-believers in any religion.

The Republic of Jumnia follows a legal system which is entrenched upon the nation's Constitution, which was accepted in 1970, following the Jumnian Civil War. In essence, the Constitution demands a form of Social Democracy, which guarantees many socialist privileges to society, and can thus be viewed as a form of a "Welfare State", whilst also ensuring a high degree of individual liberty and liberal society legislation. The constitution also demands for a form of economic system which encourages free market capitalism, whilst allowing for ample state intervention and state participation, and ensuring the participation of powerful labour unions.

The nation of Jumnia has a long, violent history, with numerous wars having been fought by the nation, both within and outside their borders. The most recent war, the Northern Tavlyrian war, saw Jumnia invaded and nearly completely destroyed by their neighbours - the Yellow Star Republic. This has led the Republic to actively seek fostering stronger diplomatic ties with friendly nations, especially their other neighbours - and co-victims of the YSR - Glisandia, and the Coalition nations whom saved Jumnia from destruction, and with any other nation who would be of use in checking the influence of their aggressive neighbours.

Team History

Seeing that Rugby Union is the largest and most popular sport within the Republic, the Jumnian Rugby Union (JRU) made the decision to establish a seven-a-side national team, in order to compete against the strongest available teams in the multiverse.

This decision was made not only due to popular demand however, as the JRU wishes to use the opportunity of the Seven's tournaments to develop young players, and expose them to skill sets which the 15-a-side coaches sometimes neglects, yet desperately require.

The upcoming tournament will be the debut of the new squad, and interestingly, the supporters have already been gripped with rugby fever - ready to enjoy the beautiful game, whilst throwing their support behind their national squad.

Typical Playstyle:

The "Sky Ravens" follows a game plan which emphasises only one aspect: Offence.

Kick & Chase, Fancy running & passing & Intercepting counter attacks are the only norm for this team, who could not care less if a try is scored against them, as they are constantly looking for an opportunity to score the most possible points against their opponents.

Kit:

The Logo & Kit used was a last resort, bastardization, by me, from the PE designs done by the amazing Lisander.

Fans:

Jumnian rugby enjoys spectacular support from the nation's citizens, and a large Jumnian support base can be expected in any stadium where their national squad is playing, no matter where it might take place.

The fans are known to be loud, energetic, passionate and almost always intoxicated. Loud cheers, boo's, spectator fights and Mexican Waves is a common occurrence at matches where these supporters are in attendance.

Scrum!: Can These New Jags Play Like #9

It's been a while, hasn't it? The 7th AVBF Rugby 7s tournament has arrived in Neu Engolon which means that, after 2 long years of waiting, our Top 10 Sevens Jaguars are back and ready to try and get the Maracalo Cup for themselves. Brutas Excillius has seen a lot of turnover in his squad after the first RUWC in our history, with 11 of the Top 12 from the 6th RSWC moving on to XV's and with a knockout spot as well! Only Vittaly Rossi remains from that team and will now captain this new team looking to prove that our depth is brilliant no matter who is involved. The rest of the starting 7 were reserves two years ago and these 6 (Caoimhín O'Carolan, Enrique Carlos de Guzman, Paul Verdunois, Chris Lincoln, Jackson Stall and Emmerson Gawakali) will certainly have a lot to prove over the coming days. On the bench, only Michael Jeferson was on the teamsheet in The Grearish Union as the rest of our 19 are new players looking to take TJUN-ian rugby by storm and with some of the talents said to be "pretty good" by insiders, who knows how we may get on in this beer festival mainstay of the rugby cycle?

THE ENCOUNTER

In case you are wondering how a rugby team came forth in a country where the sport isn't popular and how they went on to participate in the world cup, let me tell you.

It was the first day in Ogre Street College and as usual there were numerous new students waiting to step into college. Jackie Messer and Carl Andt were just two of them.

The bell had rung. Their first day in school was over and Carl was in the locker room. Carl had always been ridiculed for his height of 1.9 metres. People thought that he was a living giant and thus avoided him. Here he was in college, again without many friends. He came across three boys in the locker room. As usual, they were frightened. They asked him in a sharp tone - "Hey dude , don't think that your height will prevent you from doing our homework. It is natural that first years will serve the second years." They laughed. Carl got scared as anything. Although he was tall but one of the most timid guys out there. He replied - " Yes.... sir". The boys laughed heartily. " He turned out to be so weak."

Just then the door opened and entered Jackie. He was the shortest boy in the entire college and looked no more than eleven. Seeing this, the rogues couldn't control their laughter. They remarked " We have got some really strange fellows this year , didn't we ? On one side we have this cowardly giant and on the other hand we have this dude who's as short as a school grader. :lol2: Anyway, good for us only."

Jackie's face had started to turn red. He just couldn't bear to get ridiculed due to his height. While those boys were laughing , he went up and pounced on one of them and gave him a punch. Then he started shouting at the top of his lungs uttering a number of curses during the process. The other two guys were just watching quietly. Carl was too scared to move. He went forward and pulled Jackie out of the room with all his strength and said - " Sorry if he caused any inconvenience. Please forgive us. "

He pulled Jackie as far as he could and started running towards the lane outside the main building. Jackie rushed towards him and pushed him to the ground and then shouted - " Why did you carry me out, jerk ??"

" They were going to gang up on you and I couldn't afford to see that happen in front of my eyes. Anyway , thanks for saving me."

" I didn't save you. I just hate it when people call me short. "

" I am Carl Andt. 1 B. Pleasure to meet you."

" Jackie Messer . 1 D. "

Jackie started walking towards the gate. Carl followed him with his head lowered in embarrassment.

Jackie said - " When you were carrying me out , I realised that tall people have their advantages....." He raised his hand and pulled Carl by the collar and continued... " I get pissed at you tall tree trunks. Tell me how many litres of milk do you drink per day ? "

" I barely have tea at home... "

" So should I also barely have tea ?"

" No , I think you should have milk only. "

He got off. " Forgive me" , he said. They continued to walk. Suddenly a guy came running towards Carl and patted him on his back. " Hello Carl" , he said. "Who is this guy here ?" He was Rudolf Ihbe. He was one of the very few friends of Carl. Although he was a year older than Carl, he was a very good and cheerful guy.

" He is Jackie, a first year."

" Oh I see. Do you both want to come and see practice ?" said Rudolf

" Huh ? He is in a club? " said Jackie

" Hey Carl , didn't you tell him already ? "

"Yes he plays rugby"

" So what is rugby actually ? " Jackie asked

" You don't even know that ?" Carl exclaimed

" That is fine . He is a complete beginner I see , but don't worry rugby is great. " Rudolf said

" Hey don't get the wrong idea. I am here to watch but that doesn't mean that I will join the team. " Jackie said

" That's fine too. But one thing is that rugby is pretty fun. Once you start playing, you can't forget it . Just see us play for now." said Rudolf and walked towards the field.

" Hey tree trunk , explain what rugby actually is." He looked at the ball and exclaimed - " Hey , what's wrong with the ball ? It's not even round?"

"What ? You didn't even know that ?"

The practice match started and someone kicked the ball and high people started jumping to catch it .

" Are the rules like football ?"

" Yeah , you have to run the ball past the goalpost on either side."

One of the players charged into another player to make a tackle.

Jackie exclaimed , " Is this even allowed ? "

" Yeah that's the kind of sport rugby is. You have to give your entire strength in order to steal the ball from your opponent. " Carl said

" Huh. Rugby seems fun."

" But you realise it's a very dangerous sport ?!"

" I have always been laughed at because of my height. Stealing a ball from a big guy would be of great relief. "

The match ended and Rudolf came forward cleaning his face with a towel. He said - " What did you guys think "

" It seemed pretty fun" exclaimed Jackie

" That's nice to hear. You are quite short so you can be a winger. Why don't you join the rugby team then ? " said Rudolf

Jackie blushed a little and said , " If you are so desperate for me to join , I can't really say no. I will knock everyone out of my way and chase the ball. "

Rudolf smiled , " That's encouraging. A brash guy like you should do well enough."

" All right then . We are ready to go then" said Jackie in an excited tone.
" Hey tallie what about you ? Why don't you play rugby ? You have a great height to play . You will do good enough. "

" Ummmm , no I have to leave now" said Carl and headed towards the gate.

So this is how it all began.

The Commonwealth Rugby Union return for their second appearance in the AVBF 7's after capturing the title in the inaugural Atlantian Oceania Rugby Championships on home soil.

The side have come a long way since their last visit to Neu Engollon, where they lost their first three group fixtures after a 1-6 record in the XIV Olympic Games; they have won 12, lost four and drawn three over the intervening period, with a Plate semi-final in the last Sevens WC to go along with their regional honors.

The entire roster from the AORC squad will return to face some of the multiverse's best sevens nations.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
National rugby sevens team

This will be the seventh time that Abanhfleft will be participating in AVBF Rugby Sevens, which also happens to be in its seventh edition right now. Rugby sevens is, quite frankly, a fringe sport in the Democratic Republic, with most of its players being either rugby union or rugby league players in their professional careers. However, the country simply couldn't resist the temptation to go for some sporting silverware, and therefore the rugby sevens national team has been assembled and sent to Burgunden in Neu Engollon yet again for yet another shot at glory.

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft
Demonym: Fleftic
Official history: This will be the seventh time that Abanhfleft will be participating in the AVBF Rugby Sevens.
Team colors: Blue, orange, and green
Style modifier: +3. Offense will be the team's focus.

STARTING SEVEN

#1 Adam Jaden Sforza (Left prop, 34, captain)
#2 Emanuel Gilbert (Right prop, 29)
#3 Sean Wilkins (Scrum half, 28)

#6 Radomir Rakitic (Center, 33)
#7 Ken Greathouse (Fullback, 28)

RESERVES

#8 Rupert Dearth (30)

Blog of The Crazy Nomad

Greetings my lovies!

Welcome to this brand new blog (can you smell that 'New Car Smell'?), authored by yours truly. You may take a brief moment of appreciating just how blessed you are, as you are reading the very first article of this very new blog - and one day when this blog takes the entire globe by storm, you will know that you have been following me since this very humble beginnings.

I am joking of course, I might be very confident - but I am not that arrogant… Yet ;)

On a more serious note, I truly hope that you will enjoy reading my stories, which I am using as a personal diary of sorts on this crazy adventure which we call life, whilst also using it as source material for my future anthropology studies.

The first series of this new adventure will cover my visit to the Confederacy of Neu Engollon, located upon the continent of Madurin, whilst attending the Alpen View Beer Festival, and the Seventh Annual AVBF Rugby Sevens Tournament.

Now, admittedly, the main purpose of my visit here is to offer my personal support towards our newly established National Rugby 7's squad - the Lightning Dragons, in their debut on the international stage. However, that is not all which have motivated me to temporarily leave behind our tropical paradise, as this festival also has on offer the world's finest brews, food, music and atmosphere, in addition to the amazing athletes bashing, crashing and savaging about for a leather ball.

For those of you who does not know (though if you are a Port Emberian and you do not know… I would be shocked to my core), the Alpen View Beer Festival is one of the largest and most prestigious festivals of its kind in the entire world, with the brewer awards on offer here being considered the holy grail in achievements.

Anyway, I arrived within the Confederacy early this morning, landing at Burgunden International, having flown with the always brilliant Port Emberian Airlines (PEAL). (Quick note, Burgunden is located in the Zurich Canton and is the largest city in the nation.) As a lassie who does not care for the organised, rude, sheepish process which is checking in into a foreign nation via airports, I must compliment the airline, the Confederacy Customs and airport staff all for the friendly, professional and efficient services rendered.

Once I exited the airport, I was surprised to find a neat little government-funded mini van shuttle (painted in the same green colour as our registered taxis back home), which transported me to my hotel, free of charge. The driver was pleasantly surprised when I conversed with him in the nation's unique native tongue - Frandit. My Frandit is horribly raw, but it was appreciated nonetheless. I picked up a few online lessons before I flew here, just to learn the rudimentary basics. Interesting fact for anyone planning on visiting here one day - despite Frandit being the 'native' language, it is in fact a language heavily in decline, with English being the dominant language, making it perfect for a Port Emberian to visit.

On the ride from the hotel, in between chit-chatting with the friendly driver, I managed to steal quite the number of glimpses - and photos of the city Burgunden, which is a very old, beautiful city, with the architecture reminding me of teutonic influences, mixed with bustling modern touches. Whilst it holds no candle against my home city, Port Ember Megalopolis, sizewise that is, it still is a very massive place, accompanied by the usual metropolitan vibes, energy and spirit.

Furthermore, besides the impressive size, world class airport, English speaking natives, beautiful architecture and general 'feel good energy', the city is built upon the backs of the brewing, finance and sports industries (ten points for Capitalism baby!), with its influences felt wherever you might travel. If any Port Emberian is ever struck with wanderlust, whilst feeling still a bit cautious concerning too much exoticness, a visit to this city is perfect to dip the toes, so to speak, as it is a very unique place, whilst sharing many similarities with our own way of life.

Anyway, after tipping my driver generously, I booked into my hotel - the impressive Destination Chateau Burgunden. I booked a very comfortable and luxurious suite here for my stay, with the damage being only $589 NSD (which is 295 Aurums) per night. Not bad at all for a luxury suite!

For lunch, I used a taxi from the well known international Saint James Cab Service, which took me to the main Burgunden Brewery, or Breuerie as it is known here. As I have mentioned before, this city is built upon the back of the brewing industry, and as I looked upon the massive and impressive brewery which was the source of the entire city's name, the evidence was unmistakable. Remarkable.

Unfortunately, the brewery was not hosting any visits or tours today, but they promised to resume this activity after the weekend's festival, and luckily I will still be in-country by then, and will ensure that I do not miss this once in a lifetime opportunity!

Despite busting out on the brewery tour, I still managed to have one memorable afternoon, as I visited the oldest Burgunden BreuPub (owned by the very same Burgunden Breuerie), located just next door to the brewery, on the world famous 48 Tiermacht Strasse. It is quite the experience to visit the very original pub, constructed ages past, and which has inspired the world to welcome its international expansion in modern times. As I was there during lunch time on a working Thursday, the venue was not overly busy, yet the pure history of the house creates a vibe which bewitched me, and I found the relaxing, ancient atmosphere to be absolutely enthralling, mythical and outright magical.

For lunch I enjoyed a traditional Beef Stew, which consisted of thick beef cubes, various fresh vegetables and a unique tasting broth. It is rumoured to be one of the very first meals to have been prepared in this very pub, all those ages past, with the recipe remaining true to its original form. Allow me to inform you that there is a very good and tasty reason why this dish has survived on the menu for this long…

After lunch I sampled some of the available beverages, challenging myself to test every single one on offer… Needless to say, due to the sheer imposing range available, I failed. Miserably so.

Utterly hung over before the beer festival even began! I almost feel ashamed to call myself a Port Emberian.

As I started to slowly and painfully sober up within my hotel room near midnight, my tellie was tuned onto NETV 7 Espora, a sports channel, and was thus reminded of the reason why I was here. In just a few hours, our brand new Lightning Dragons would execute their debut against the best teams which the world has on offer.

This brings me to..

Rugby 7's: News From There

So our brand new, untested and inexperienced squad is about to commence their international career, hoping to show their mettle and passion to the world, just like our 15-a-side squad attempted two world cups back (and failed miserably at that, but no one needs to be reminded of that fact), during the Seventh Annual AVBF Rugby Sevens Tournament.

Just as a reminder, this tourney is taking place over a period of three days (Friday to Sunday), commencing with group stages, with 4 groups of 6 teams battling it out in a single round-robin. Once the group stages are completed, the top two teams in each group will advance to the prestigious Cup Competition, while the 3rd and 4th place finishers of each group will contest the Plate Competition, and lastly, the 5th and 6th place finishers will contest the Bowl Competition.

Now, before you loyal and passionate fans becomes too excited, allow me to break your hearts… Our whippersnappers have had the amazing misfortune of being drafted in Group A. The feared GROUP OF DEATH...

So this is what lies ahead for our lads in blue during their virgin group stage:

Match 1: Kickoff takes place in the morning, against Abanhfleft. That's right fans, that is not a typo. Our first ever international match is against the best bloody team in the world. Please reread that sentence. Now weep and go drown your sorrows.

Match 2: Kickoff takes place in the afternoon after lunch, against Licentian Isles, the 27th highest ranked team in the world. Honestly, not taking anything away from their immense talent and skill, but this squad will probably be playing a mere shadow of our squad - as that's probably all which would remain after debuting against the best team in the world.

Match 3: Kickoff takes place in the early evening after supper, against Neu Engollon, the 6th highest ranked team in the world. So Margaret, the Goddess of Luck, felt that she had not punished us enough, and therefore decided to add injury upon injury, by facing us off against our 15-a-side mentors and tournament hosts (okay this might be a stretch, but our head coach of traditional rugby is a Neu Engollonian) next. HAHA.

Match 4: Kickoff takes place on day 2 in the early morning, against Sixty-Nine X, a fellow debutant squad.

Match 5: Kickoff takes place on day 2 in the early afternoon after lunch, against San Ortelio, the 11th highest ranked squad in the world. So yet again, THANK YOU SO MUCH MARGARET!!

So there you go fans, that is what our next two scheduled days are looking like. There is no need to tell you about my predictions, except for telling you how truly glad I am that the beer tents are close to the fields….

Be sure to catch up with me when I post again tomorrow evening!

Till we meet again my lovies!

The Rugby Rundown (Sevens Edition!)
with Graham O'Doherty

6TH RUGBY SEVENS WORLD CUP: THE CUP FINAL

Hello guys, and welcome back to another edition of The Rugby Rundown Sevens Edition with me, your gay Irishman Graham O'Doherty. It is done. It is over. It is finished. Abanhfleft have won the 6th Rugby Sevens World Cup! Oh, and what a wild ride the entire thing was. There were some close shaves where it almost looked like the dream was going to end, but the lads held firm and didn't let anything faze them. The group stage may have been a cruise but the playoffs certainly weren't! Imagine that, a path to the playoffs that goes through bloody Darmen, Nova Anglicana, and Elejamie. All rugby powerhouses, the lot of them. As the old adage goes, you have to beat the teams in front of you to get to the Cup, and boy did Abanhfleft have to fight for it. And it was almost another meeting between us and bloody Kriegiersien, but thank goodness Elejamie beat them wackos before we had to. Better Elejamie than Kriegiersien, even if technically speaking Kriegiersien would've been the easier matchup. That being said, Elejamie were very much worthy opponents for the Rugby Sevens World Cup as well. You have to beat the best to be the best and all that jazz, after all.

Of course, after that intense affair that was the Cup semifinal against Nova Anglicana, there's always the risk that the lads would have used up all of their fire and desire against the Lions. That's always the risk when you have to play against your rivals in a game that's not the final. I mean, come on now, let's face it. In terms of rugby football, Abanhfleft and Nova Anglicana are very much rivals, almost as much as Elejamie are also our rugby rivals. A rivalry is always good because it spices things up. It's not just about winning anymore, it's about getting one up on your rivals. But it's always a dangerous thing to go all in on defeating a rival when it's not the final game of a tournament. Let's look at this in the context of this particular Rugby Sevens World Cup, shall we? So Abanhfleft beat Nova Anglicana in a close and tight match. All well and good, but what about Elejamie now? The Elephants are no slouch in rugby; underestimate them at your own risk. And even if we estimate them correctly (which doesn't sound like proper English at all but let me worry about that later) then the question becomes: do we still have enough left in the tank to play against them on the same level that we did while playing Nova Anglicana? That was the question in the minds of everyone supporting the blue, orange, and green as everyone prepared for the final match of the 6th Rugby Sevens World Cup.

We needn't have worried in the end. For all the hype surrounding this match, it would appear that both Abanhfleft and Elejamie were aware of the stakes of this match and thus, both teams put on a performance worthy of being in the Cup Final. We conceded an early try from Diego Molina, and at that point, Abanhfleft could have just given up. But no. We didn't get this far into the World Cup just to give up just one minute into the Final! Imagine the backlash if we had choked this contest once again. Well, it's a good thing that this particular possibility remained just in the imagination, and it's all because of our lads. Sforza, Dearth, Reid, Mahout, Partridge. These are the men who never gave up and thus made it possible for Abanhfleft to finally claim the Rugby Sevens World Cup from the Elephants of Elejamie. They knew that this might be their last tournament representing the Democratic Republic together, and so they got together and decided that they would go out with a bang and not a whimper. And they actually did it, the absolute madmen. Elejamie, to their credit, gave us the best fight they could possibly give. They knew what was at stake and they fought for the right to lift the Cup just as much as we did, and even when Paulie bloody Partridge scored the third Fleftic try of the game with less than a minute to go, that didn't stop them from fighting back and trying to come back into the game.

So this is how Abanhfleft leaves Forsho and the Grearish Union, with a shiny new Rugby Sevens World Cup to put into our trophy case, right beside the Maracalo Cup from the 6th AVBF Sevens. Thank goodness that the Maracalo Cup finally has a companion. It was beginning to look a little lonely inside that trophy case in Riuwiee. Good thing we finally got the Maracalo Cup a friend. Oh, I'm going to miss Forsho, and not just because of the seamen. I'm going to miss the friends I made along the way, and all the memories we've made. Forgive me for being this sentimental, but rare is the moment when I am present for my country winning an international sporting trophy. That lucky girl Aisling, she got to see us win three World Lacrosse Championships! And bloody Dara got to witness Abanhfleft win both the World Bowl and the Arena Bowl too! Lucky buggers, the whole lot of them. At least I was there when we won the Rugby League World Cup that one time too. Ah, the memories, the memories. XOXO from Graham….

THE CHIEFDOM OF COPPER CUPRUM
NATIONAL RUGBY SEVENS TEAM

This is the fourth time that Copper Cuprum will be participating in the AVBF Sevens. Rugby is the most popular sport in Copper Cuprum, and although rugby league is the more popular code in the Chiefdom, both rugby union and rugby sevens still have a decent following. Copper Cuprum had been long isolated from the international community since it is a small island archipelago located deep in the middle of the Lazarus Ocean, far from any regular shipping lanes since man first sailed ships. The nation was only discovered by the Fleftic Navy in 1914, when they were searching for the daughter of President Rufus Wole Mensah, whose ship was wrecked in the general vicinity of the islands. Arriving in the capital of the islands, they discovered that Chief Zed had made the President's daughter his queen, generating a sudden alliance between the two countries. And Copper Cuprum was also rich in copper, so that was a good thing for Abanhfleft too...

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation:
The Chiefdom of Copper Cuprum
Demonym: Copperite
Kits: Initially, the Copperite national rugby sevens team was not supposed to wear any kits as ordinary people know them. Instead they would have played wearing only white loincloths and nothing else. However, in the interests of modesty and compliance with the international standard, the Copperite team has elected to wear a new uniform with alternating black and white hoops and white shorts.
Team colors: Black and white
Style modifier: +1.00 (A balanced team with a slight focus on offense)
Head coach: Count Tumale Boweba (53 y/o, Copper Cuprum)
Notes: It is Copperite tradition to slit the throat of a live chicken before a game and then spread the spilled blood on the field. However, after the Valladar authorities advised the Copperite Football Federation against performing this tradition after local audiences were shocked by this tradition, it has been decided that in place of this tradition, Copperite players will now cut off the head of a rubber chicken before a game and then toss the head around like a hot potato. This is the version that will be used in international tournaments. However, Copperite players will still perform the chicken sacrificing ritual when playing in the Chiefdom whether or not the other team (or the event organizers for that matter) likes it. The Copperites hope to turn this tradition into their version of the haka.

Dave Carrey's Guide to the 7th AVBF Sevens - Group C
Dave Carrey - Burgenden, Neu Engollon

So the last tournament went fairly well. And I don't mean that sarcastically, we actually did a fairly decent job over in the Grearish Union back at the last Sevens World Cup. There were a few missteps, such as the 19-15 loss to Bollonich and how Toda completely failed to find the uprights and a literal misstep involving our prop Riley Kroger and San Ortelian centre Simone di Basco, but a 5-0-1 record isn't anything to be sniffed at. Especially when you throw in 34-7 wins over Suimede and Devonta as well as a 31-7 win over the Licentian Isles. After a 26-10 win over Barunia, we would go on to beat another team that I'll talk about later to make it to the finals. There, we were playing Abanhfleft who not only had won all six of their group stage games but also had the best point differential with +156 (201 scored, 45 conceded). Even more impressive because that's the fewest amount of points allowed in the group stage by any of the 28 teams taking part. They'd go on to steamroll Darmen 38-12, beat groupmates Nova Anglicana 24-12 and just edge us out 19-17 to become world champions. It won't really matter who wins the Cup here because the Fleftics would still be world champions until the next Sevens World Cup, as is my understanding, but it does mean they'll have to keep showing they're a dominant force because one slip could be seen as a mark against them. Elsewhere, San Ortelio won the Plate with another 19-17 win over Copper Cuprum and the hosts would win the Bowl with a less narrow 26-14 win over Sevendia.

But enough of that now because, yes, the Alpen View Brew Festival is back and so is its sevens competition. One of the most prestigious sevens tournaments out there, now in its seventh installment. While the union side of things rests for a bit and league currently remains dormant with a number of different tourneys (including a couple of union World Cups) since the last major tournament for them, sevens continues to live on. After all, with its quick matches, high-octane action and the fact that you can fit multiple matches in a single day, it's easy to see why it's one of the more popular codes. And with the beautiful scenery, semi-clockwork regularity and plenty to do in between matches, it's also to see why the AVBF Sevens is considered to be one of the most notable events in the rugby calendar. But enough fluff, let's get into why we're all here: Who our boys will be up against and when.

So who will be our first opponent? A little country called StrayaRoos. I've no real idea what they're like rugby-wise but they could surprise us. That being said, their volleyball team aren't really doing well at the Volleyball World Expo, where they're currently sitting somewhere at the bottom half of the table. So hopefully this excursion into the world of rugby sevens would be more successful. A short paragraph, I know, but I don't really have that much to say about them. I've an idea of who's playing for them and what positions they'll be in but that's about it, really.

Next up is a face who's definitely more than familiar: Kriegiersien. A team we have faced in the past two consecutive sevens tournaments (where they somehow beat us in Coff's Harbour before we beat them in the Grearish Union) and will face yet again here. Hopefully this won't mean that we've got a budding rivalry here, especially since it won't have the same lustre that our official rivalries with Lisander and Ko-oren have. Anyway, I digress. They finished second in their pool back at the Sevens World Cup with a 4-0-2 record (their two losses being a 33-19 loss to the Commonwealth of Baker Park and a 31-19 defeat to pool winners TJUN-ia), which was enough to qualify them for the Cup stage. After a somewhat shocking 28-21 win over Lisander, they were up against our boys where they would lose 24-14. And since there wasn't a third place play-off stage for them, they had to bow out without any consolation prizes.

Next up is HUElavia and, surprise surprise, they were another team we had played in the last competition they were in. Which was Coff's Harbour, as they weren't in the Sevens World Cup. There, they somehow finished top of the group with a 3-1 record, their sole defeat being a 24-14 loss to us. Yes, it was that kind of tournament. Anyway, they were up against Nova Anglicana and, in some level of normality, they got absolutely steamrolled. 40-14. Ouch. They're hoping that they'll do much better in this competition and, while that may or may not happen, I will still wish them the best of luck.

Afterwards, it's Lathamford. While they're new to the competition, there is actually some understanding of rugby there. They've got a squad I can easily follow, a domestic tournament with teams and even a proper orgnisation for it. While I do have a couple of doubts, I have a feeling that these guys will do fairly well in either the plate or the bowl. Not to mention that their captain's surname is "Canaryharbor". I like that name. Again, another short paragraph but I hope our game will give us all plenty to talk about.

And, finally, it's the ABEN Union, listed here as Britonisea. They're a team that's familiar to a number of Elejamians as they take part in the WorldVision Song Contest with us and, indeed, won the jury votes but came second overall when it was hosted over in Avon for the 90th edition. They're also a nation with a good degree of sports pedigree behind them, as they regularly take part in tennis competitions and the Summer and Winter Olympics. When it comes to rugby, however, I'm a bit lost. I've no real idea if there's a tournament over there, as I haven't seem to found much, but I'm sure something will pop up and I'll realise that I didn't research hard enough. Either way, there's still a possibility that they could wow us so I won't rule them out just yet.

So how do I think we'll do? Hopefully near the top but, as our trip to Northwest Kalactin proved, anything is possible including national anthem mess-ups. Kriegiersien will probably make it through as well as they're the only other strong team in the group, although I'm not ruling out HUElavia doing a good job as well. Lathamford currently strikes me as the only other team that might have some level of success but I'll wait and see. The others might pull off a win or two but again I'll have to see. Either way, it'll be tense and exciting.

So who else has made the trip over? Reigning sevens world champions Abanhfleft will be in Group A alongsides the hosts, San Ortelio (who will hopefully not have their team decimated, like what happened in the World Cup), the Licentian Isles, newcomers Sixty-Nine X and faintly familiar team Port Ember. Group B will be reigning union world champs Lisander, the chicken killers in Copper Cuprum, Baker Park, The Jovannic, Juvencus and Jumnia. And finally we have Group D, which has Nova Anglicana, TJUN-ia, the Natanians and Nosts, Arjunnagar, Sevendia (who'll really enjoy the seventh edition of a sevens competition) and Brookstation, a plucky team that could be destined for big things. Some notable absences like Alice Bay, Hutanjia, Darmen, Ko-oren, et cetera but still we've a motley crew of hungry newcomers and seasoned veterans, so that should keep everyone's appetites whetted.

Any others news? Not particularly. First up, I'm sorry for a lack of pictures in this article, as I couldn't find any that'd fit the article, even tangentially. Sure there are still the rumours of Tom Correy, David Kramer and Marcus Ruiz hanging up their boots, internationally at the very least, but that'd feel a bit gratuitous having a picture of them and a caption that's barely related to the article. So I've decided to go without. Secondly, the fabled Edgebaston Sevens bid is nearing completion and will be submitted soon. The reason for the delay is for the ERF to work out what would be the best few days to host it and how to divide it all up. Quite silly, I know, but hopefully they'll come to an official decision sometime soon. And thirdly, Kevin Gabriel is officially the new head coach of the Elejamian sevens team after he signed a two-year contract on the off-season. While I do support this as he did a very good job in Grearia, it's just a question of whether that was a fluke or if he can carry on with the success that Coach Kim brought us until his departure. I've a sneaking suspicion that it'll be the latter.

With all that aside, it's time for me to say my goodbyes and get ready for the festival. I might sample some wares in between each match or during the intermissions. And if you ever see me, don't be afraid to say hello, I'm always up for a bit of fan interaction. Anyway, good luck to all the teams, may the best three win their respective silverware. Dave out.

So, what is "real"? What is really "real"?

Who is the "real woman"? The "real man"?

Down that silly beer advertising that says "real men are this", "real women are that" "real men drink more", "real women drink better", "real men are strong", "real women are hearted". Down with all this gibberish. They just want you to buy more and try to fit their standard. But this is not the real you. It may be the ideal you: richer, beautiful, cooler. But probably not the real you.

It's okay, we are not judging. I hope you don't care about it, as we don't care if you decide to judge us You're free to call our beer "cheap", "tasteless", "boring"... we're probably not making the ideal beer. We are not brewing with expensive mineral water from the eastern Galliena mountains, neither are we using malt and hops imported from the best fields on the southwestern plateau of Elvertia. But we aren't made by ideal people. Our malt and hops are produced by farms in midnorth Lisander. Our factory is a common beer factory. Our beer is made by real people like you.

You, who works day by day on an office, on a shop, as a teacher, a librarian, a clerk, a hairdresser, lawyer, truck driver, designer, engineer, gas station attendant, rugby player, police officer, veterinarian, shoemaker, judge, mechanic, hockey referee, tailor, gardener, farmer, priest, psychiatrist, sawmiller, whatever your job is.

You, who finds some time in saturdays or sundays to open that drawer and pick up your jersey, your skort, your shorts, your pants, your football, rugby ball, basketball, hockey stick, foil, helmet, cleats, tennis, bicycle, golf clubs. Or if you do nothing of that and just sits in front of TV to watch your favourite team. Or if you don't even like sports. You're still the real deal.

We believe we don't need more stereotypes. Not to sell beer. Because we like to make the beer you'll buy to the best times of your life. Not for the expensive bars and clubs, but for the moments you are real.

Sincerely,

Blog of The Crazy Nomad

Blog Series: Seventh Annual AVBF Rugby Sevens Tournament.

Part 1
♡ Part 2 (You are here)

Greetings my lovies!

Welcome back to my blog, for the Seventh Annual AVBF Rugby Sevens Tournament Blog Series, where I am authoring my experiences during my visit to the Alpen View Brew Festival, and the accompanying AVBF Rugby Sevens Tournament, hosted within the beautiful Confederacy of Neu Engollon. This is my second article about my experience here, please check out the first part first if you missed it!

I woke up this morning with a banger of a hangover, due to my adventures at the original and mythical Burgunden BreuPub, which was enhanced with a solid case of jetlag, thus making the task of getting out of the luxurious bed an extremely arduous task. Luckily, I am a fighter, so I rolled myself up forcibly, made sure to tidy up the hair and throw on a pair of skinnies and an official Port Emberian Lightning Dragons™ jersey. And the darkest set of sunglasses which I own, obviously.

Sick or not - our boys need me!

I made it just in time to catch my pre-booked Saint James Cab Service ride at just past 0800 am, to the Confederacy Park, which is only a few klicks away. And despite the gates only opening at 1000 am, I am very grateful to have left as early as I did, as traffic was a bloody nightmare, with me arriving at the gates at just shy of opening time. Luckily, I managed to steal a good amount worth of naptime on the ride over, which will serve me well for the day ahead. I hope I did not snore though!!! -Embarrassed-

Getting inside the grounds was a breeze, due to the professional and friendly orange-vested staff - and my pre-bought full festival pass.

Once inside, I shamefully missed attending both the blowing of the Alpenhorn ceremony and the opening speeches, as my body finally surrendered against the bruising which I have inflicted upon it, and i was forced to seek the nearest portaloo, in order to desperately call for George...

Anyway, I felt a lot better after screaming my lungs out after 'my dear friend George', and could finally get my head back in the game. It was all fortunate timing as well, as the magnificent smells of the various stalls started filling the air.

My bruised, hungover body, subconsciously led me to the Nio Espresso tent, in desperate search for a hangover/jet lag cure. The heart wants what the heart wants.

Here I chucked a double espresso shot down my neck, with a large chocolate infused Cappuccino as company. As a Port Emberian who has fully conformed to the mainstream coffee culture of our home nation, who are used to the very best caffeine brews from across the globe, I can proudly announce that this company knows their stuff, as the quality of their drinks were absolutely divine.

For my breakfast grub of choice, I ordered a Bacon and Cheese Croissant, whose quality was just as superb and fresh as their coffee on order. The excellent chosen combination was the final step of my hangover remedy, and I immediately started feeling like the crazy nomad which I am once more, ready to share my craziness with the world.

Interestingly, whilst enjoying my breakfast, seated upon a wooden picnic bench, just outside the Nio Espresso tent, a large crowd of clowns (yes dear reader… fucking clowns) passed by, who continued to heckle the pants off myself, and anyone else in sight. Despite my obvious hate and fear of clowns, they were hilariously talented. My inner Port Emberian cannot help but appreciate well crafted verbal insults and heckles.

Apparently, this is an annual tradition known as the March of the Madcaps, specifically entailing clowns marching about the park and heckling everything which moves. I have no idea what the history or cultural significance of this parade entails - but it truly is something which I can throw my support, and admiration at.

With that, I hastily made my way down to the Confederacy Park Exhibition Pitch A, where our boys in blue would be kicking off their international debut at 1100 am.

Port Emberian Rugby 7's Debut Tournament: News from over there

Port Ember Vs Abanhfleft

Port Ember 19 - 19 Abanhfleft

No one will blame you, dear reader, if you took the time to go back and reread the final score titled above. Go on, I know you want to… Have to. Go on, I will wait…

Okay, welcome back!

I will be the first to admit that I kind of played the role of Chief Doom Prophet before this match commenced, as I firmly believed that the game would finish with a 100-0 end score, and not in the favour of the Dragons...

I am aware that this sounds very unpatriotic and cynical, but can you really blame me? I mean, on one hand, you had our lads in blue, who had never ever played Sevens on an international level, and possesses a total rugby scene which is still in its infant development phase, at best.

On the other hand, you had Abanhfleft. These guys are the very definition of a "Rugby Powerhouse', being a prominent figure in Union, League and Sevens rugby. In Sevens specifically, not only are they the current holders of the Maracalo Cup (winners of the 6th AVBF Rugby Sevens Tournament), but also the reigning Sevens world champions.

As you can clearly see, the odds were stacked against our lads - as high as the fabled tower of Babylon. In fact, if you placed a bet on our squad for the win, you would be at risk for being thrown into a padded cell.

Despite these uncalculatebly unfavourable odds, the spirit of our proud and crazy nation surprised me once more, as the pavilion was absolutely stacked with smiling, cheering and energetic supporters proudly wearing our oceanic blue jerseys and waving our national flags, creating an absolutely electrifying atmosphere. And to think, the local media reported that there would barely be any fans making the trip!

Interesting to note, as a regular attendee of our international matches, I observed quite a different fanbase sample when compared to our Union matches, who is normally very much dominated by young men, but this time it appeared to be more of a family affair, seeing many young and middle aged couples, kids in tow. It is clear that rugby culture is rapidly growing, and turning into a mainstream phenomenon.

The totally insane official fanclub - the Travelling Buccaneers were also present, painted blue in body paint, with many armed with trumpets.

From the very second that the whistle sounded off, the game was as electrifying as the crowd, and both teams played their hearts out for the entirety of the derby, both squads displaying world class passion and talent. The crowd was loud, very loud in fact, barbaric almost, with cheers, song and trumpets drowning out the ability to hear one's own thoughts (my own voice might be permanently damaged…). This seemed to feed the desire of our young lads on the field, playing harder, faster and more aggressively, which in turn fed the crowd's passion even further.

When the final whistle sounded off, there might have been a slight hint of disappointment for not managing to break through our world class opponents one more time, yet the reality dawned quickly that we literally just drew against the world's greatest team, on our very first attempt. This was a David vs Goliath affair. Rome is sacked. We live brothers and sisters, we live!!!

Score Breakdown
Port Ember

Tries:

#6 Vin Paĉjo x 2
#7 Sheldon Merita x 1

Conversions:

#5 Stuart Niĉjo (C) : 2/3

Abanhfleft

Tries:

#1 Adam Jaden Sforza x 1
#4 Justiniano Reid x 1
#6 Radomir Rakitic x 1

Conversions:

#5 Marouane Mahout: 2/3

So with the conclusion of this match, the world will surely take note of our lads, and will most likely come very prepared against our raw passion. One factor remains a constant when it comes to Port Emberians vs international sport: We will always be the habitual underdogs, armed only with pure passion and drive.

Next up, this afternoon after lunch, our lads will be facing off against Licentian Isles, who just now received a 40-7 thrashing from San Ortelio. Although it is very easy to grow cocky due to the last match, our lads cannot forget that they are still a very good squad (ranked 27th in the world), with ample experience, thus we need to take this game very seriously and very focused. We can only be allowed to get cocky once we win this whole damn show!

A quick looksie at the rest of the group's matches:

Neu Engollon 38–7 Sixty-Nine X

Hosts and general idols, Neu Engollon, quite predictably smashed fellow debutants Sixty-Nine X in a dramatic fashion.

San Ortelio 40–7 Licentian Isles

San Ortelio delivered an embarrassingly large defeat on our next opponents, plain and simple.

Anyway, speaking of lunch, it's time for me to put down my writing tablet and enjoy the activities of the festival on offer. I will write again at the conclusion of the next match.

Till we meet again my lovies!
