"Most Influential" rank?

Postby Charburek » Thu Oct 14, 2021 10:34 am

To me, this rank makes no sense. I mean, yea, it's supposed to rank the most influential nations, that's clear. So I expect Regions like the West Pacific, Osiris and the like to be at the very top. However when I checked, my miniscule 6-people-region was on place 18. I checked the rankings and there's countless tiny regions all over the top 10, top 20 and so on. I think Nationstates is going by relative influence? Since when there's little people in a region, there's probably a "Hermit" state nation. However I think Nationstates should go for absolute influence on that stat as obviously, my Region Neurope isn't even a thousandth as influential as say, Osiris. Or maybe influence works different, educate me

Regional Stats in the rankings are based on the regional mean average, therefore there may small be regions with people who have a large amount of influence carried over from past regions and push the regional ranking up.

Indeed - the feeder regions contain an enormous amount of total influence (seen by the "Regional Power: Very High" in their page), but the presence of many new nations without influence pushes the average down.

That makes no sense really. My nation has been resurrected rather recently, and all the other people in my region are kind of new, and I doubt the one longer-playing player gets us to global place 18. Or maybe it does and you're right. Anyway, I still think it should be reworked

IMO the influence stat should be reworked to go by total influence then, not average.

Your region's average influence is currently shown as 19,484.67 which is the average of each member of your region at the time of major update (usually from around Midnight EST). Most of that influence comes from Yagistan. 3 nations have arrived since major and do not yet count in the average which is why it is so high right now.

I'd agree it would be interesting to see a ranking of regions by total influence.

I think the rank "Zenith" or "Omega Behemoth" would be fine for a potential name.

What? for what?

For something higher than a Very High influence rating on region pages. Certainly would be unique.

There is actually an "Extremely High" which is the highest one, seems I got that one mixed up with "Very High" earlier - feeders and other large regions have the former. That said, I don't think that many regions have it to cause a new ranking to be needed.

I've wanted this from day 1 after they changed it from that. It just puts inactive 1 nation regions on top.

You could say that about several different stats... Mainly the ones jumping to mind are WA Endorsements and Population. The number one driver of a region ranking highly in WA Endorsements is not so much having a lot of endorsements among your WA nations but having few nations outside the WA (and thus with 0 in that ranking). The ranking page right now looks better than it has in a while, but I recall frequently small regions jumping to the top 10 or 20 because they are almost all WAs so their average goes way up.

Population regional rank is just a list of nations from 2002 or 2003 sitting in regions alone. Not really what I think many are looking for when they search for regions by that.

It'd be nice to be able to search both (even if ranking stays on average). Have a button for regions that switches the ranking to highest total score (though granted in almost all rankings the GCRs are going to dominate total scores because they make up a quarter of the game's WAs).
I prefer not to be called that
