SAVIGLIANE NATIONAL TEAM ROSTER
CUP OF HARMONY 81

Ahead of the qualifiers for World Cup 89, Tlanx-Nulzk was forced to bet on an injection of new talent being able to replace the likes of the aging Pietro Giraudo, Camillo Notari, and Bianca Fiore(!). It was not a bet that the manager was able to win, and despite some signs of life late in qualifiers, the Swans slumped to a disappointing third-place finish in their qualifying group. However, with even more of the old core disappointing in qualifying, Tlanx has been forced to go all-in, and the 23 that will travel to Sylestone and/or Zwangzug are a vastly changed group than the 23 that started qualifying. The Cup of Harmony may be a blessing in disguise for a relatively young team that is yet to win a knockout match anywhere - but further disappointment here could be devastating towards Tlanx's hopes of a tactical revolution. Some basic information about Savigliane can be found in my first WCQ RP or my BoF/WCQ RP line. Essentially, the nation has been teleported to the NS world from an IRL equivalent and is still working through the fallout of that event.

NICKNAME: The Swans / The Red and Blues
MANAGER: TLANX-NULZK Hal - 65 (Qusmo)
After taking a sabbatical to reexamine their priorities in the wake of Qusmo's collapse, Tlanx-Nulzk has returned — & they like to attack as much as ever. They posted some of the highest-scoring seasons in the history of Pug Qusmyra. Under their stewardship, Qastyr – coming from a nation that had never before advanced beyond the first preliminary round of the Champions' Cup – not only got to the Champions' Cup 72 group stage, but rode the highest-scoring attack in the group stage out of all thirty-two teams in the tournament to win a group featuring Spartangrad, Brinemouth, & Tanrisal, en route to a shock quarterfinals run. As a result, they came from nowhere to be named a surprise selection for KarlingSport Galacticos Manager of the Season. Admittedly, their back line hasn't always been a strong suit, but they are remarkably efficient at getting their midfielders & forwards in sync for ruthless attacks. They were noted at their last post, as Saltstead's national team manager, for a sense of humour, memorably playing along with The Beet's request that they be set on fire. Perhaps that belies their competitive spirit, but make no mistake: they're friendly, jovial, & fun to be around off the pitch; on it, they're nothing short of ruthless. (description written by Qusmo)

ASST. MANAGER: VANZA-JERAT Gep - 39 (Qusmo)
Marco Giuliani, who clashed with Tlanx-Nulzk several times during qualifiers, is off to Esportiva to turn around Tumbra's Couno Rangers. In his place is the relatively unknown Vanza-Jerat, the former goalkeeping coach who has agreed to serve as an interim assistant manager until Tlanx-Nulzk can find their successor. Tlanx-Nulzk and Vanza-Jerat have extensive past experience together - the latter started their career at Tlanx-Nulzk's famous Qastyr sides - and the hope is that the former national team goalkeeper will be able to serve as a calming influence on the pitch.

TACTICS
"TlanxBall", a dynamic 4-3-3 setup, promised - and immediately delivered - attractive results. In possession, the focus will be on retaining possession and moving the ball forward vertically, with the base of the midfield three (most likely Buvalelli) serving as a deep-lying playmaker, and Chastain and Toscani aggressively pushing forwards with the ball or using diagonal passes when they can. In build-up, Buvalelli will drop back to form a triangle with the two center-backs, with Lamontagne and Vitale drifting in and out to serve as wide options to carry the ball up the flanks if necessary.

The aim while in possession will be to rapidly shift the ball forward before using quick interchanges and dynamic movement in the attacking third of the pitch. To aid this, the forwards (and occasionally the two midfielders, especially Toscani, who will have more of a free role) will wide and into the half-spaces to stretch the opposition defense before playing back through the center or switching play to the now-exposed opposite flank.

Defensively, Savigliane will play a relatively high line, aiming to compress the opposition's build-up toward the sidelines and pressing immediately after losing the ball. The Swans will rely on the pace and tactical instincts of their back four to cover what is a pretty attack-minded "front six", especially since Lamontagne and especially Vitale will both be pushing forward if necessary to maintain dynamism in possession.

Tlanx-Nulzk’s system has taken significant adjustment to work with the Swans, and the free-flowing nature of the attack means that the team may struggle to keep their opponents out of goal this cycle. However, they’ll more than make up for it with dynamic, fast-paced, free-flowing attacking play that could make them one of neutral fans’ more favored teams at the Cup of Harmony.

RETIRED NUMBERS

#20 - Raphael ROVIRA - FW
#25 - Sofia PLAISANCE - FW

While Savigliane does not traditionally retire numbers, the loss of three two national team players to the event that brought Savigliane into the NSS dimension has been commemorated by suspending usage of their numbers until further notice.

Note: below, bolded players represent starters and italicized players represent backups.

GOALKEEPERS

#01 - Nicodemo D’AMBROSIO - 29 - Unioneers (EUR)
#12 - Nicolas DuCASSE - 29 - Kingston FC (QUE)
#23 - Narcisa ROUSSEAU - 22 - Nazionale Acqui Bollente

D’Ambrosio has been one of the breakout stars of post-Event Savigliane, going from backup to Golden Glove winner to Mayville-turned-Unioneers starter and NT star. He’s still inexperienced, but an incredibly athletic shot-stopper with inconsistent but strong distribution. DuCasse is a much stronger and more consistent distributor, although his highs aren’t quite as high as D’Ambrosio, and he’s a relatively weak shot-stopper at this level. Finally, making her national team debut, Rousseau came out of nowhere to anchor Nazionale's title-winning defense, and is a dominant presence in the box with strong athleticism but a bit of an ego.

DEFENDERS

#04 - LB - Serena LAMONTAGNE - 26 - Chatswood (NPH)
#02 - CB - Adélaïde GARCIA - 29 - KT Moreazerua (AUD)
#03 - CB - Chiara BLANCO - 26 - Aries Chariots (NPH)
#11 - RB/RM - Giovanna VITALE - 30 - Dynamo Sjoedrhavn (SVJ)

#24 - LB - Roman PALOMER - 22 - Urbizania Wanderers (ASG)
#14 - CB/CDM - Gianmarco DUTTO - 26 - FK Metropola Borograd (STL)
#15 - CB - Alexandre ONIO - 22 - 1896 Ebor (MYT)
#34 - LB/RB - Margherita ROMANO - 29 - Emerald Coast (SRS)

Lamontagne, who helped Chatswood to Zenith survival last season, is known for her deceptive athleticism, coolness under pressure, tactical intelligence, and versatility. After a few cycles waiting behind Bertrand Marchetti, she's finally getting her chance to start for the Swans. Blanco, replacing the aging fan favorite Efisio Moreau is quick, aerially adept, and hard-working, one of Lega 2's best-kept secrets until her move abroad, and a positive surprise at every step in her career. Meanwhile, Garcia is the quickest of the backline, and the one in the highest demand last transfer window before a big-money move to Mozi - while still occasionally prone to mistakes while on the ball, her athleticism and man-marking capabilities make her a valuable, versatile asset to the national team. Finally, Vitale is more explosive than the rest of the fullbacks, and her crossing and shooting ability make her more of a direct threat when attacking. A converted winger, she’s not particularly good tracking back, although her athleticism gets her some of the way there. She's capable of playing in a number of different positions on the right flank, and will be more at home in this newly attack-minded formation.

Palomer made an instant impact in Astrograth, enough for Tlanx to take notice, as a tricky, energetic, attack-minded fullback whose greatest strength is his incisive overlapping runs. He's a bit one-dimensional, especially at this level, but young enough to round out his game. Gianmarco Dutto is a strong but slow-footed center-back whose biggest strength is his ability to distribute from the back - it’s early, for sure, but he’s already being tipped as a potential successor to ball-playing center-back Pietro Giraudo. Onio was one of the best defenders in the Mytanar Top League last season, catching the eye of contenders 1896 Ebor with his passing abilities and calmness and off the ball. The versatile Romano is a fiery leader known for her persistence, defensive workrate, and poise with the ball, although she’s much less of an attacking threat than Marchetti on the left or Vitale on the right.

MIDFIELDERS

#28 - CM - Óceane CHASTAIN - 24 - La Nueva Avenida (FFD)
#05 - CDM - Gabriel BUVALELLI - 23 - AS Marcadia (AUD)
#10 - CM/AM - Adrian TOSCANI - 27 - Cazadores Cathair (AUD)

#17 - CM - Nathaniel AUVERGNE - 26 - Hofvinger (GRÆ)
#06 - CM - Amara VATRICAN - 33 - AC Acqui Bollente
#29 - CM/AM - Alessandro BELLA - 25 - Clayquot City (KSK)

Chastain is unpolished, often lacks focus, and is prone to fouling, but genuinely one of Savigliane's best when she's on, with the kind of passing vision, defensive positioning, and athleticism that make us reach for the Bianca Fiore comparisons. La Nueva Avenida was a challenge slightly beyond her in her debut season, but she seriously bounced back en route to a dominant campaign that fell just short of the title. Buvalelli unexpectedly broke into Alessandro Juliana’s first team in Audioslavia’s National League and rose to stardom for both club and country, and although temperamental, his deep-lying playmaking makes him Pietro Giraudo’s heir apparent at the senior level. Toscani is a technically gifted young midfielder who, despite not being particularly athletic, has already impressed in his short time at Porto Vecchio, earning himself a transfer to Caza in the process. He’s capable of playing as a center-midfielder, an attacking-midfielder, or, thanks to his surprisingly good crossing ability, on the wing.

Auvergne, who’s excelled at Hofvinger this season, is a talented player whose creativity and physicality make him an incredible prospect despite his lack of speed. A former MVP of the Græntfjaller league, his career has stalled a bit since, and he's hoping to take the next step this tournament. Recently demoted starter Vatrican is a dynamic, box-to-box midfielder, with her excellent dribbling enabling her to make driving runs toward the box, and her accurate - if not particularly creative - passing helping the team advance up the pitch. She's taken her demotion and ensuing loss of the armband reasonably well, but it still is a bit of a sore point. Bella, the young player of the year in Savigliane, is known for his creativity and flair with the ball, and surprisingly high workrate (somewhat compensating for his lack of athleticism) without it.

FORWARDS

#21 - LW/ST/RW - Bonagiunta ROSSI - 21 - Tor (CMT)
#18 - ST - Thea SQUARCIAFICHI - 26 - 1830 Cathair (AUD)
#22 - LW/RW - Zoë BARTHELEMY - 29 - Aleuisia Capital (ZRH)

#27 - LW/ST - Anne-Marie ROUX - 25 - FC Novonaya (KSK)
#07 - LW/SS - Isabella COSTE - 30 - Dury FC (PFA)
#30 - RW/CAM - Calliope MONTEVECCHI - 30 - Eivora Athletic (TKT)

Rossi came out of nowhere with ACAB two seasons ago to score an incredible twenty goals - one for each year of his life - in 29 SavigLega appearances. Then, he earned himself a big move to Alnio, and despite getting relegated, scored twenty again. His best asset is his absolutely lethal pace and skill, although he’s a bit skinny and a legendarily bad teammate who forced his way out of ACAB. Squarciafichi is a predatory finisher and absolutely lethal in the penalty box. Although a solid dribbler, her best runs are off the ball, and her passing is definitely a work in progress. Barthelemy, whose resurgence after a recent transfer helped her new club to the CL Round of 16, is more of a natural winger, although she’s ambidextrous and versatile enough to play on either wing. Her greatest assets are her energy, pace, and dribbling, but she’s a little lacking in end product.

Roux is an incredible dribbler with sometimes inaccurate but sometimes incredible passing ability and a left foot that produces magical free-kicks and long-range shots. Her star has been eclipsed slightly by Rossi's emergence, but she's still expected to be one of Savigliane's Next Big Things. Coste is the archetypal support striker, and has shifted to that role off the bench from her spot on the left wing - end product and strength are the only things she lacks, while her speed and dribbling ability make her a constant threat to set up her teammates. Montevecchi is a surprisingly good playmaker for a winger, and has flirted with an attacking-midfield role. Nevertheless, her biggest asset is her pace and ability to cut inside into dangerous positions, while her weakness is her inability to contribute on the defensive end.

Formation, Tactics, and Preview

On Ball
 • Play from the back
 • Play wide early, and then down the middle
 • Counter attack quickly and sharply
 • Crowd the box
Off Ball
 • Play a solid mid block
 • Take advantage of mistakes
 • Regroup when losing the ball
 • Defense starts at the very front
 • Employ a balance of physicality and technique
Set piece depth chart
 • Free Kick: Gröss, Kostessen, Simeoniwić
 • Corners: Rawić (L), Simeoniwić (R), Heiden (L), Kewić (R)
 • Penalty order: Rawić, Simeoniwić, Gröss, Heiden, Zup, Kewić, Krušlin, Igorić, Wlad Wlad, Faruq, Wasić (subs before Kewić move behind Heiden, others directly replace a player between)

Mobility, shot stopping, and distribution were the there key goalkeeping attributes Lu Jialan looked for in both qualifying and this tournament. No shifts were made to the number one spot, as Dejan Wasić earned respect after a rough league season in Ribar. Zlatko Wukowić continues to play in the second tier of Vilita, looking to get a redemption, while also staving off young gun Branislaw Mucić from the U-21 team and DD Porto Nowi.

The central trio is meant to be solid and successful and ending attacks and building up Rekan offensive drives. Krušlin is the most mobile of the starter, and may cover for her wingback, same with Ali Faruq. Captain Wlad Wlad was weak in that transitionary role, though he did add his name to scoresheets. Wlad Wlad was ultimately slotted into the dead center to be another layer in Zeta Reka’s wall. Even though he's had mobility issues, Wlad is still capable of booting the ball from end to end.

Wingbacks Zaur-Luka Igorić and Yuri Kewić return to another tournament as the preeminent wing players in the county. With speed, and passing ability, these two play like wingers, and Kewić has also made some rough plays on defense. After a poor league season Igorić is apparently moving on, though it’s unclear where the ever confident wing man will go at this time. Kostessen and Hamppe will come in at times for the wing back, and provide balance.

Gröss’ role as a box to box player is different than his deep lying role from before. In exchange for less creative demands, he’ll have to patrol the field, covering for his midfield parter, and even slotting into the back line during times of extreme caution. Backups Stanimir Rekawić and one cap wonder Wladoslaw Dorboslawić each provide box to box duties, with Rekawić a bit more creative than the other.

Zup has been a real hotshot in the footballing world, a firebrand for his club Myana, Zup has been given his highest role yet by starting in the Cup of Harmony. Zup will play as an attacker, his raw athleticism and growing skills will make Zup one of most dangerous midfielders in his group, and perhaps the whole competition. For a more defensive and solid option, Nikola Branić has been called into the team. Branić was solid in qualifying, but was blamed in the domestic press for some local and worldwide failures.

After winning player of the season in the Rekan League, Stojan Heiden was brought back to the top spot on the left flank, with Quebecois starter Arnald Gal two goals in qualifying gave Gal another spot in a major competition. With age catching up to Heiden, and a stat record that is solid but not world being, Heiden will need to do well in order to keep starting for the team. On the right side Miloš Simeoniwić, who’s technically able to play across the front line, is aging like win for the national team, while secondary man Wladimir Kazi is an uncapped player at his peak. Corner master Jad was not selected for the team, after playing in pretty much very tournament for Zeta Reka

Down the middle, two distinct play styles will be infused with Jialan’s tactics. The starter once again is Bogdan Rawić. Playing in Savojarna, Rawić is one of the most notable players from Zeta Reka. Speed is still here, though the legs are not eternal. The true strength of Rawić’s game is impeccable timing, and clinical play in the final third. Fenstermacher Schwartzhammer, known to his peers as, “Fen,” is a smash mouth physical option. Fen will look for passes when he is in the match. Rawić privately is unhappy with the absence of personal friend Konstantina Popowić, the gossip magazines even allege Rawić lobbied against Lu Jialan.

The uniforms from the qualifying cycle remain unmolested, though a police presence at the headquarters of manufacture Početak was a cause for concern. Federal Football Association President Iwan Anatolić declined to comment, though local media in Porto Nowi have questioned General Secretary Ludewig Deppe’s connections to Preograde, a planned community created and operated by Početak’s founding family.

THE UNITED REPUBLICS OF YUEZHOU - NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM
月州联合共和国 - 国际足球队

Lu Jialan, after bringing Yuezhou to a historic World Cup qualification and taking a respectable four points from its “Group of Death”, left ahead of cycle 89, citing disrespect from the FA and the overpoliticization of Yue football as reasons to leave for Zeta Reka. In his place, former Nangang Royals and Græntfjall manager Kang Guilin promised a new era of Yue football even better than the last, and made big changes to the team's tactics. But while the team's performance in qualifiers was fairly respectable, the fact remains that they've failed to follow up their WCQ88 success, and the pressure is starting to mount on Kang. A civil war may be brewing underneath the surface, especially with another round of tactical changes (including the controversial dropping of Wen Xiaohui) planned, but if success can be found here, then all may be forgiven...

Home Stadium: either Yübao, Nangang (cap. 48,000) or The Meridian, Jiangdong (cap. 46,000); feel free to choose one if not previously specified.
Tactics:
Kang Guilin earned plaudits during his time at Nangang Royals and with Græntfjall’s national team for his tactical pragmatism. But “pragmatism” doesn’t always have to mean defensive play - sometimes it just means recognizing that your four best players are basically attacking midfielders and setting up accordingly. As such, Kang has returned to the same 4-2-3-1 that Yuan Zilai got fired trying to solve, but in a much more fluid configuration that’s the most attack-minded any Yuezhou side has been in years.

Despite the offensive focus, counterattacking with pace will be the goal of Kang Guilin’s setup. Zhu and Yuan are capable of playing a higher line than Ren Fang or Han Jian, and will try to compress the pitch for their opposition unless dropping back is really necessary. Li Jing, Jiang Jieren, Liu Huiying, Luo Dan, and Huang Shedong are all quick, creative, attack-minded, and excel stretching the defense on the run, while Wan Sheping often stays back to serve as a release valve or in case the ball is lost on the counter. Yuezhou will aim to hit hard and hit fast as soon as the ball is won and press more aggressively as a team once losing the ball. In order to do so, Kang Guilin has set his team up to be younger and higher-energy, with players required to excel on the counterattack and on the counterpress.

Luo Dan is more of an inside forward who can be deployed on either side of the pitch, while Jiang Jieren is a more traditional winger who likes to run down the flanks. Alongside the high-octane fullbacks (usually the younger, sprightlier Diadora Reeve on the right), they can push forwards to stretch the opposing flanks and create more room centrally for Liu, Li, and Huang to operate. Kang is betting more on wing play than he did in the qualifiers, with Luo and Jiang relatively new to the starting spots and Mao Aiguo waiting in the wings, and hopes that increased width will address the stagnation of WCQ89's second half.

STARTERS

#01 - GK - LU Qiang (陆蔷) (f) - 33 - Guerrilla Cathair (AUD)
From an actual guerrilla in the Yue Civil War to Guerrilla Cathair, Lu Qiang is a fighter above all else. On the pitch, she’s more modern, better at playing the ball from the back, but undoubtedly worse at actually stopping the ball from going into the net.
#14 - LB - JIAWEI Chuan (佳薇川) (f) - 28 - Tihon (CMT)
A quick, crafty full-back (or wing-back, or even winger if Yuezhou is really parking the bus) whose biggest weakness is a propensity to get forced off the ball.
#16 - CB - YUAN Mingrong (袁明荣) - 27 - Ararat (MYT)
An intelligent, cultured young center-back who's solid but still a bit raw with the ball. Showed enough promise in Mytanija as the best defender in an admittedly underwhelming Ararat defense to earn a shot, although that might say more about Yuezhou’s center-back depth than anything else.
#15 - RCB/RB - ZHU Aiguo (朱爱国) - 31 - Iturributa United (ASG)
An aggressive, versatile defender who likes to win balls and push forward with them. A center-back by trade, Zhu has unexpectedly become Yuezhou's starting right-back - his emergence at the position has earned him a transfer to Astograth as well as his starting spot.
#13 - RB - Diadora REEVE (f) (利朵拉) - 26 - Coret Hawks (NPH)
Diadora Reeve is an athletic, relatively attack-minded fullback who provides an interesting tactical option for Yuezhou in place of Zhu Aiguo. We think she had a Yue grandfather or something, which is why she's turned up on the Yue national team despite everyone previously thinking she was Nepharim.
#08 (C) - CM/AM - LI Jing (李精) - 31 - Steinaux (GRÆ)
Li Jing is very quick and excels on the counterattack as a creative or goalscoring threat. Has enjoyed increased praise lately for his exploits in Græntfjall due to the beginning of normalization in relations between the two countries.
#19 - CDM/CM - WAN Sheping (万射平) - 24 - Wirr Tsi (CMT)
An old-school, defensive-minded midfielder who's surprisingly good in the air despite being 5'8". Earned a move to countryman Zhaxi Nanlei’s Wirr Tsi squad a few seasons ago, and is rapidly becoming one of the best young players in Chromatika and a key figure in the newly-minted Red League juggernauts.
#22 - LW/RW/ST - LUO Dan (罗丹) - 28 - Coquitlam United (KSK)
A more mobile forward who can deputize capably on either wing or as an attacking midfielder, Luo is a dangerous scorer known for his quick-burst runs behind the defense, although he can be a little selfish at times. Will be playing as an inside forward on the left-hand side, often dropping into midfield to support the other attackers.
#10 - AM/SS - LIU Huiying (f) (刘辉映) - 28 - AFC Corvistone (NPH)
Liu’s speed and devastating passing ability make her one to watch with every counterattack. Her high workrate, even on the defensive end, should theoretically make her a good candidate to slot into attacking-midfield, where she now plays at the club level as well in the Zenith.
#77 - RW - JIANG Jieren (江杰仁) - 24 - Osarese Marcadia (AUD)
An incredibly quick winger, Jiang’s ball-retention skills need to work and he tends to play with too much ambition. Still, he’s absolutely electric when on, with a combination of scoring and playmaking on the counterattack that could really make an impact.
#09 - ST - HUANG Shedong (黄舍东) - 31 - Coret Hawks (NPH)
While not particularly good at hold-up play or in the air, Huang's blazing speed and technique mean he excels at exploiting gaps in the opponents' defense with his dribbling and short passes. A strong finisher, but relatively unproven leading a line by himself.

SUBSTITUTES

#12 - GK - ZHAO Yong - 31 - East Railway (ASG)
Not the most athletic of shot-stoppers, but a cool, commanding leader of defenses who can grab anything out of the air.
#23 - GK - GUO Yanhong - 30 - Dhun Lagarr FC (TKT)
A modern sweeper-keeper and competent shot-stopper who is aggressive to a fault, but who had a strong enough season in Tikariot to earn a call-up.
#02 - LB - KANG Enlai - 32 - Corvette Maulers (NPH)
The most ambitious of the full-backs on the roster, Kang is the best source of width on the team (although that probably says more about the team than it does about Kang). Strong athleticism and crossing ability, although he is a bit one-dimensional on the attack.
#27 - CB - LI Jianguo - 24 - FC Einheit Marnau (STL)
Despite his young age, Li is incredible on the ball, at his best in a three-man defense where he can make surging runs and spray accurate long-range passes with either foot. The physicality isn't quite there for a grueling qualifying campaign, although he’s working on it.
#06 - RCB/CDM - GUO Xiawei - 30 - Ming (CMT)
Formerly a makeshift libero in a back three, Guo Xiawei has often been redeployed as a defensive midfielder. One of the first of his generation of Yue players to sign abroad, for since-relegated Tanques AOE of the Ko-orenite Top League, Guo has flashes of brilliance with the ball and is very good at reading and intercepting passes, but tends to make unforced errors on defense worryingly often.
#25 - RB - DONG Xiaowang - 22 - Megabrantid (SRS)
A pacy, strong fullback well-suited to the modern game, although his rawness on the defensive end will make him more of a long-term project for new club Megabrantid. Could be creatively deployed as a winger in a pinch.
#07 - CDM - YANG Tao - 32 - Fagli Cinquanta (SOR)
Energetic but not particularly skilled, Yang will be tasked with pressing aggressively, winning balls back before passing them to someone more creative, and kicking opponents to stop attacks.
#11 - CM/AM - CHEN Xiwei - 35 - Bikarsh (PFA)
Chen Xiwei’s evolution from an energetic but unskilled midfielder to a dominant playmaker and Poafmersia’s player of the year has come out of nowhere and won him back a starting spot. Chen has retained his energy and his aggressiveness in the pivot, while adding a new dimension to his passing that helped him take the league by storm with Bikarsh.
#36 - AM/ST - ZHENG Yuanjun (f) - 25 - Fiskadaha (PFA)
An intelligent, versatile attacker, Zheng is much more skilled as a playmaker than as a scorer, although her ability to find space with her runs has still gotten her a decent scoring record.
#18 - AM - WEN Xiaohui (f) - 28 - Libertas Bergheim (SVJ)
Wen Xiaohui, the niece of controversial star midfielder Wen Xiaoli, has rapidly developed from Yuezhou’s next big thing to a star in her own right. She wasn't a great tactical fit for Yuan Zilai's or Lu Jialan’s style, but her pace and playmaking more than merit her inclusion in the first-choice starting eleven, and her breakout WCQ87 was a rare bright spot in an otherwise miserable qualifying campaign.
#32 - RAM/RWB - MAO Aiguo - 24 - TSV Marzig (STL)
A quick, tricky winger who moves like the ball's glued to his feet, both because he's an excellent dribbler and because he never passes the ball. Lots of potential if his mindset can be changed, especially now that he’s moved to a Republikaliga side known for its development capabilities.
#21 - ST - JI Weibo - 24 - Brantisvogan (SRS)
While selfish to a fault and not the easiest personality to work with, Ji Weibo has laid waste to South Newlandia to the tune of 17 goals in 22 matches. A pure poacher who’s posed an increased long-range threat as of lately, Ji isn’t much of a team player but can arguably lead a line by himself better than the less physical Huang can, and could be a real option off the bench.

Barunia Suns
CoH 81 Squad

After a shocking qualifying campaign in the World Cup 88, coach Rafael Barrios was shown the door. The Sargossan has the dubious honour of having the shortest career of any Barunian coach, and also is the only coach to never have gotten the Suns to a world cup. Replacing Barrios as head coach is Liesel McLelland. McLelland was a long-serving member of the national team, a vice-captain, and also captained the team during World Cup 81. Add to that an excellent coaching record with the Southern Bluebirds in the domestic X-League and a run to the quarterfinals in Cup of Harmony 80, and hopes are high for McLelland's tenure.

The biggest change to the team has been the shock resignation of Emmanuel Carter during the recent qualifying campaign. Now without their star striker, the Suns look to their other key forwards: Sara Moorhouse and Rachael Cross have stepped up and filled the gap admirably. Fabian Quixano has been rushed into this team as an emergency backup, but is unlikely to play unless an injury occurs. Neville Swan may be playing in his final tournament, but the Barunian stalwart shows no signs of losing his touch. Swan wore the captain's armband last time, but he relinquished that to Louise Cartwright at the begiining of this cycle.

The Bollonischian National Football Team

The Bollonischian Football Federation

The Bollonischian National Football Team represents the nation of Bollonich at international footballing events such as the World Cup, Cup of Harmony and Copa Rushmori. The Bollonischian National Team made their official debut at World Cup Qualifying 88 against Al Qurija. The National Team had a very successful campaign in WCQ 88 finishing 5th in Group 6 ahead of teams like Sannyamathland, Rangers FC and North Japan. We also defeated the pot 1 seed in our group, Zwangzug 1-0 away and held them to a 0-0 draw at home. After a very successful World Cup Qualifying our side travelled to Græntfjall to participate in the Even Frostier Cup where we were paired into Group P with Baggieland, Barunia and hosts Græntfjall. In our first game we defeated Baggieland 2-1 however two consecutive defeats in the next matches sent us straight out of the Even Frostier Cup. After taking part in the 80th Cup of Harmony the Bollonischian footballers made their way to Mytanija to participate in the Copa Rushmori. Starting the tournament in style with a 4-4 draw against Darmen the rest of the tournament went downhill we suffered defeats to both San Ortelio and Sargossa failing to qualify for the Round of 16. The National Football Team returned to international foray with the 89th World Cup Qualifiers aiming to repeat our heroics from the 88th edition. And repeat our heroics we did, as we had a fabulous World Cup Qualifying campaign which was of a very crazy nature. We not only improved on our performance two year ago, we also caused major upsets defeating group winners on the last matchday. The team showed its metal in our meteoric rise in international football finishing fourth in our qualification group making important improvements. We now come into the Cup of Harmony with the intent of building on the base that's been firmly laid down.

The Starting 11 (4-2-3-1)

#1 Sirigu (GK) - Sirigu, Gildiric’s first choice keeper is a young and talented keeper who plays for Vreton United in the TPL. His performance is the WCQ was encouraging as he bagged 6 clean sheets. He will also star in Bollonich’s Copa Rushmori campaign as we attempt to reach the latter stages of the tournament in our first time.

#4 Sylvester Lindsey (RB) - Lindsey forms an integral part of Bollonich’s defence and performs a huge role of a full back in Gildiric’s tactical plan. His season with Vreton City has been more than successful. He has bagged 2 assists in his short national team career.

#2 Gerard Ingit (CB) © - Ingit forms the backbone of the defence and has served as immense role in his centerback partnership with Ploy. As Gerard enters the final years of his career he would like to compete at the highest level and give Bollonich all he has. He is also the captain and leader of the team who also inspires them.

#3 Jeremy Ploy (CB) - The 28 year old centreback who is entering the prime of his career is doing so in a time where Bollonich is at an all time high of it’s footballing prowess. He is as solid as a defender can get and will be one to watch out for.

#18 Bobby Burns (LB) - Bobby is a young and rising left back who’s skill in both attacking and defending greatly impresses Gildiric which has made him first choice. His exploits with SC Lagos were also highly commendable. He also nicked an assist in qualifying along with 6 clean sheets.

#5 Gerald Swanson (CDM) - Swanson, the 31 year old midfielder plays for SC Lagos, and his role in the tactical set up by Gildiric is immense and functions as a holding defender in what is a quite advanced midfield.

#6 Miles Hum (CDM) - Partnering Swanson in midfield is Miles Hum who is both energetic and skilled. His energetic nature is the reason he plays in an advanced position then Swanson linking the forwards to the defence and midfield.

#10 Bryant Marshall (CAM) - Marshall is the typical number 10, playing slightly behind Perry however in front of the midfield. He forms a crucial part of Gildiric’s 4-2-3-1 set up which wouldn’t function without him and he is also the player with the most goal involvements (24 - 11 goals and 13 assists).

#14 Buck Moreno (RW) - Buck Moreno is a relatively new player to the Bollonischian National Team, who became a starter during the course of the WCQ due to his tremendous performances. Moreno has scored 8 goals and bagged 6 assists in his exploits with the national team.

#7 Stuart Schmit (LW) - Schmit is a young and talented winger who forms a brilliant partnership with Buck Moreno his partner on the wings. Their exploits with Vreton City FC as well as his 6 goals and 14 assists in his short career reflect his talents in not only scoring but also assisting.

#9 Dennis Perry (CF) - Perry is the 30 year old striker from Fermont United was the most important player in Bollonich’s WCQ campaign where we finished 5th. He is what we call a modern day poacher who racks up goals as he likes, this can be seen in the 21 goals he has scored with the national team.

NATIONAL TEAM

COACH

Morten Troghil is a manager of the team since its creation. In six seasons he won two trophies, make it twice to the World Cup, twice lost in the WCQ playoffs, and this can be counted as much more than good result, but nevertheless many in Trolleborg feel team underachieving and has continuing problems in the field of sports psychology.

PLAYERS

After rather unlucky WCQ team decided to take part in the CoH, altought this tournament never been easy for Trolleborg.

GOALKEEPERS

Tomas Kot Kotsson (32 years). Flexible and agile, quick-thinking, he recently made a quick progress – probably due to the hard work and improved quality of defence. Altought previously he was justifiable castigated for a big numbers of goals conceded, and there was doubts if he continue as number one, in the last tournaments he improved his game significantly, and in second time in a row conceded less goals than every other goalkeeper in the recent WCQ. But he is not grew younger.
Jesper Krogh (24). Player who already prove himself on a league level, fast and good at the second floor, without losing something in his first floor game skills, making some incredible saves in our league. In the last WCQ he take spot between posts in almost third of all games and conceded four out of eight goals, but this count including three penalties in scandalous game against Bahia Roja. Probably he will be first choice at the CoH.
Finnsnes Soderhelm (29). “Confidence come with experience”, – often said coaches, and it’s close to what happened to this goalkeeper. Having spent full first half of career mostly as backup in the first league teams, he move one floor down and soon return to the spotlight as a reliable and competent goalkeeper. With a lot of experience behing him, he is great in handling things in his domain, always cool-headed even in the most difficult situations, while giving sense of security to his teammates. He was right now third choice keeper, probably moved to the second spot at the CoH.

DEFENDERS

Kasper Wolters (29). One of the team brightest stars, he is right back by default, but he is very strong, very fast, have a very good shot and even better crossing skill. Having all this, he very often make a lighting runs to the opposition box and sometime substitute right midfielder. But he spent good part of the WCQ campaign on the bench, due to the need to give younger players time to prove themselves.
Karsten Lindeblad (24). Robust right defender, fast and strong, with good position sense, he prove himself in the Trolleborg league as worthy opponent even for the best forwards, fighting for every ball and never give up. General public have doubts if he is up to the task, and forthcoming CoH is, probably, will be point of decision.
Aien Troger(30). He is (up to most recent time) fast, strongly build and extremely good in tackling. It’s very challenging to move into the box past him and he is made a serious progress for four seasons Trolleborg team played in the international football. Altought being (probably) in his last playing years, he was a pillar of defence, but it will be seen whom coach paired him in the centre.
Joran Du Riis (27). Cold-blooded fighter prove that he more than capable holding his own at the highest level. Agile and fast-moving, but solidly builded and used this for his advantage, he prefers play either to the right of center or on the right side, as team needed.
William Schendel (25). Versatile fast moving defender known for his skillful positioning and man-marking, highly effective in breaking opposition attacks, great in the heading, with incredible high crosses-interception rate. Right now he is used as a backup.
Torgeir Dushegub (33). Known as a Column, this tall and strong player usually dominates a box both in the air and at the grass. Being always calm and confidence, he projected aura of them around. Age advanced on him, but he was trying to live up to the fan expectations.
Jesper Loonstrup(24). One of the youngest members of the team, he is flank defender in the preferred Trolleborg style – fast moving, adept in supporting attacking moves, willingly throw himself in the way of the ball, aggressive in tackling.
Jaan Berg (23). He is one of the Trolleborg players who play in the first ever football tournament for the country, U18 world cup. Man-marker, which have give a tough time to established forwards in the league with every opportunity. Having left out of the team at the WCQ, he was again called in after very good season in Trolleborg league.

MIDFIELDERS

Kasper Windass (24). Broad and strong left midfielder, he looked a little bit sluggish when moving without ball, but everything changes when he have it. Then he moved extremely fast, sweeping away everything in its path due to his mighty build and usually ended move with a clever pass.
Rolf Valgren (33). Quick-thinking, with a perfect understanding of game, seeing everyone and everything in the field, and with brilliant passing skills, this man can bring ball everywhere he wants. He definitely add something from international experience, and his wealth of experience personified through by his calmness on the ball. He was already in the advanced age, but continue to perform his duties on the good level. His play at the WCQ was nothing short of brilliant.
Finn Finnsnes (32). Playing usually attacking midfielder, free forward or link man between midfielders and attackers, he is swift, smart, good dribbler with a great sense of goal possibilities. Having all this, he didn’t make solo runs without need, and has a habit to review every option before doing something, so opponents never know beforehand what he did next second. He was key player at the WCQ campaign, but most probably will spend CoH at the bench
Morten Troll (28). He is a brightest star amongst midfielders in the whole country. Genius of game, with a wonderful dribbling, beautiful technique, excellent pass and extremely good shot, he won many games for his local team single-handedly, but also a great team player with great repertoire of tricks. Highly probably, he will be a player of generation, and very probably, best player Trolleborg ever had. He brilliantly justified all the positive reviews even when team performance was rather uninspiring. But serie of minor, but painful, injuries, disallow him to enter field and make so needed passes at the recent games.
Kenneth Pathmoor (25). He can cover a lot of space and conjure goal opportunity for his forwards from nothing. With his pace, agility and an eye for goal everyone agrees he has a bright future. Kenneth is a regular addition to the squad, altought coach until recently don’t give him too much chance and what this clever and versatile midfielder did on the field looked not too good. But in the recent campaign he prove his right to be counted on as a midfielder
Hendrick Groningen (30). The defensive midfielder, probably the best in his generation, he was not selected to play in BoF and joined team by way, proved himself worthy of a place in the team, caused a lot of problems to the attacking players of the opposing teams. His talent of intercepting ball in the middle and using every possibility to begin attacks was fully appreciated by everyone – apart, probably, of his opponents. Altought he was not too often added to the starting lineup, he did great job on these occassions.
Jesper Lucius (23). With a perfect sense of game, this central midfielder usually can move ball to where it want with only one touch, and he is good with a set-pieces. Some say, he was like a Morten Troll in his younger years, but many stop say so recently. CoH was, probably, his best, and maybe last, chance to prove they are wrong.
Torstein Halst (23). Right winger\forward, with a good passing, master of highly accurate long crosses and very well making in curved shots from outside the box. Willingness to fight for every ball, spare no effort, and, most importantly, improve his skills is what give this very young player a chance to play for national team.
Jesper Gronholm (26). Recent addition to the team, he was comfortable down the right flank as either defender or midfielder. Competenly hold his own while in defence, he was willingly join any move forward, where he pass ball quickly and thoughtfully, already prove this in the recent games.
Jorpen Kjelle (23). On of the younger members of the squad, this left midfielder prefer to move almost hugging left-hand touchline. He was as comfortable when playing left midfielder as he is operating as left defender, but right now he hasn’t defined place in the national team. Most probably Troghil will use him as a backup.

FORWARDS

Stuart Kerr (32). Almost legendary characted, worshipped by fans, Stuart is the quick, brave and skillful, moved fast despite age, love to puzzle defenders and having ability shot from everywhere in the box right despite defenders best efforts. He brilliantly confirmed his reputation as a prolific scorer at home at the international level, he was definitely keystone of team that winning BoF, winning a prize for the topgoalscorer of BoF and continue to add goals in almost every tournament. Popularity of name Stuart for the newborn babies in Trolleborg is rise exponential in all years since our national team played first game. But right now he is spent more and more time on the bench.
Tom Gulbranden (31). Together with Stuart Kerr he formed one of the most iconic pairs of forwards in the South Pacific if not the world. Build like a very tall stone wall, he easily can tramp defenders if he wish to do so. But he don’t need such a things due to his other qualities. Altought never shies physical contacts with defenders and having often put opponents under pressure, he can move past defenders with surprising speed, it’s difficult to knock ball out of his possession, and his powerful leap give him many advantages. Yes, it is looked impossible, that a man of such a stature can bring himself in the air at all, but nevertheless he is – strongly jumping and struck the ball by the head with deadly precision, scoring many of the most beautiful goals of the team. He prove this again many times at the recent WCQ. But while he has a great partnership with Kerr, Tom is not too well adapt to the younger companions.
Theo Limburn (27). This player was a veritable workhorse in the whole his career. His main talents was fast pace, tremendous workrate and indefatigability, coupled with unquenchable willingness to pursue ball whatever the chances are. He hasn’t too much time on the field in the WCQ, but, maybe, CoH is his chance to prove himself.
Torgeir Berglund (24). Effective center forward in front of goals, having something in common in both Kerr and Gulbranden despite their visible differences. He prove his goal-scoring talents in the national team, but was clearly not convincingly enough.
Torfinn Jivoglot (22). Albeit very young, he is already established player in the Trolleborg league with a very decent play-to-goal rate. Very fast, reading game perfectly, with a strong goal flair in local championship, but not a few times in the recent WCQ he was either too fast or fast enough and waste chances to score the goal. It was looked like it’s his last tournament if he doesn’t improve his performance.

TEAM TACTICS AND GAME STYLE

Team practiced attractive attacking game on a fast pace, and already its style well-known and liked by public. Usually played 4-4-2 with defenders pressed forward whatever possible, or 3-5-2 with a midfielders move back and forth as things dictated. Integral and inalienable part of the team’s game will be mighty pressing, applied whatever on the field when ball is not on our side.

Unsportsmanlike behavior is highly discouraged even if in the interests of the cause, and national team players are required to meet the highest standards possible, so it is completely impossible to imagine a player of the Trolleborg national team faking injury or begging for a penalty. But players are not easily bullied, though, and more than able to stand up for themselves both as individuals and as a team, and have a strong inclination to go tit-for-tat in case of excessive brutality on the opponent’s part.

National psyche tell players to put everything even if odds are heavily against, so almost every match in the league played with high determination, and national team shirt oblige one who wore it for even more efforts – altought it was visible, that players often compeletely lose breath when unexpected setbacks occur. Precisely that was happened in the recent two WCQ’s.

Style –5.
No, there was no confusion, team played attacking football on the field, while having negative style modifier for a scorinating purposes.

OUR FANS

Fans is a pride of Trolleborg and almost part of the team, having already earning themselves a name and a good reputation at every place where national team playing.

Trolleborg Republic will organize trips for a fans and they wil arrive in the host countries in a very big batches, by thousands. We are welcome every possibility to RP on this theme. Some teams that will play at the CoH recently have received status of – from Trolleborgian language this can be translated like “we will rejoice if you lost” – due to their support for our opponents. If we meet face-to-face, atmosphere at the stadium and around will be highly charged. I will elaborate on this theme in the RP.

Team Personality
The Darmeni team will never argue with the referee. Indeed, if anything needs to be brought to the attention of the referee it will be done by either the Captain or Vice-Captain in a respectful manner (or to the fourth-official by the Manager). With regards to foul/dirty play, the Darmeni team will not provoke, or retaliate against any opposition player. Darmeni's expect each team to keep to itself and deal with its own trouble makers; any opposition player who attempts to prevent a conflict by pushing or pulling a Darmeni away from the scene will be promptly told off, as that is the duty of the Darmeni Captain.

Nonetheless, Darmen will play in a relatively aggressive manner. Tackles will be conducted in a way which ensures the opponent ends up on the ground, but causing injury will be avoided as much as possible. On set pieces, Darmenis will stand their ground and will not be easily pushed around, they will not however engage in hugging. In fact, if any opposing player tries to push past them, it is not uncommon for the Darmeni player to feign resistance before simply stepping aside and watching as the opposing player stumbles past on their way to ground. This occasionally backfires however, as the referee may mistake the incidence as having been a foul in the box.

Siovanija & Teusland National Football Team

Facts

Nation Name: United Republics of Siovanija and Teusland
Short Names: Siovanija and Teusland, the United Republics
Demonyms: Siovanijan, Teus
FA: Siovanija and Teusland Football Association (STFA)
Colours: Blue and gold
Anthem: ‘High Mountain Skies’
Capital City: Borograd
Other Major Cities: St. Jakob, Stelburg, Vlaikograd, Chernovets, Felsenkirchen
Highest Domestic Youth League: Republikaliga
Nicknames: The Goldhorns
Style Modifier: +1.5

Manager: Robert Feicke

It’s official: Feicke is the new man in charge. Appointed at the end of a disappointing Cup of Harmony campaign, the former SV Preisfeld man is looking to right the ship for the Goldhorns. The performance at the AOCAF was strong, with a new-look squad: a much more structured shape, a new formation (4-2-3-1) and the beginning of a new era personnel wise as well. Numerous players will have big new roles to play, including perhaps the nation’s newest star: forward Wilhelm Hielscher-Zendagorta, a Teus/Audioslav dual national who helped Cazadores Cathair to the IFCF Champions League title. Feicke's first campaign saw the side reach the World Cup Playoff, just losing out on aggregate to Ko-oren. Now, Feicke will get another chance to imprint his style at the Cup of Harmony.

Goalkeepers

GK -- Ewald Heuser -- Brinemouth (NPH) -- 31y/o -- 99 caps, 20 clean sheets
GK -- Anatoli Sveteikov -- Olympia Borograd -- 37y/o -- 31 caps, 7 clean sheets
GK -- Lino Kaberle -- Sporting Iturributa (ASG) -- 24y/o -- 13 caps, 2 clean sheets

Ewald Heuser has proven himself one of the greatest goalkeepers in the world, the #1 for his club, Brinemouth, and a key part of their march to the Premiership title two seasons ago. A sweeper-keeper, Heuser is is the all-time most capped goalkeeper for the national team, and could hit the 100 cap mark this tournament. Anatoli Sveteikov is ever-reliable, and probably deserved more than his 31 caps to date in his career - but he’s managed to always be the second-best keeper, never the best. Lino Kaberle has done very well in Astograth and is likely the next #1 after Heuser. Strong and agile, Kaberle has the strange distinction of being incredible at penalties - dating back to his time as a forward in the TSV Marzig youth academy.

Left Backs

LB -- Edgar Steimle -- 1912 Stelburg -- 32y/o -- 123 caps, 6 assists
LB -- Lyubomir Dimitrov -- FK Metropola Borograd -- 35y/o -- 71 caps, 4 assists

Edgar Steimle is the main man for the Goldhorns here on the left side, a very quick and dangerous player down the flank. Concerns that he may have been losing some of that pace at the last AOCAF were thrown out after a brilliant season in the league with 1912 Stelburg, and he’s hoping to find his form again at the international level. Lyubomir Dimitrov was once a very similar player, but through injuries and a loss of pace thanks to age, he’s transformed into a very solid defensive fullback, and found a home once again in the national team after being named to the Republikaliga’s Best XI.

Centre Backs

CB -- Karl-Heinz Jager -- Raynor City United (VAL) -- 32y/o -- 146 caps, 13 goals, 4 assists
CB -- Taras Maksimov -- Energija Chernovets -- 28y/o -- 40 caps, 2 assists
CB -- Tristan Niedermayer -- AFC Corvistone (NPH) -- 30y/o -- 41 caps, 1 goal
CB -- Paul Steinhausl -- FC Felsenkirchen 1879 -- 23y/o -- 11 caps

Karl-Heinz Jager, of course, retains his spot as a key member of the squad. The centre back won the Premiership again with the Rockers last season, and is on track to be the most-capped defender in national team history by the end of his career. Good on the ball, and strong on the tackle, Jager is a leader on this team. Taras Maksimov had an incredible season with Chernovets in a title-winning campaign, and has cemented himself as Jager’s main partner and the future leader of this backline.. Tristan Niedermayer will want to impose himself in that conversation too, however, and the Corvistone defender will have every opportunity to do exactly that. Young Paul Steinhausl has a big future and has impressed on 11 caps.

Right Backs

RB -- Darijen Vesele -- Rene Skae (FFD) -- 30y/o -- 73 caps, 2 goals, 9 assists
RB -- Nico Elsberg -- FC St. Jakob -- 22y/o -- 2 caps

Darijen Vesele is arguably the best right back in the world right now and is an incredible piece for this team to have, so fast down the wing and with an excellent cross. It’s made him a standout for his club team, too, where he was one of the best players in the new Shango-Fogoa Premier League. He was a bit of a late bloomer on the international level, though, and now that he’s really in his prime, it’s time for him to dominate. Nico Elsberg is a bit of a surprise pick here, but the young St. Jakob defender is quick on the ball and a strong, confident defender - a real statement of intent from Robert Feicke as to his future.

Centre Midfield

CM -- Thorsten Kramer -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 35y/o -- 226 caps, 76 goals, 93 assists
CM -- Todor Mihailov -- Revolutionaries (EUR) -- 31y/o -- 115 caps, 8 goals, 17 assists
CM -- Heinrich Bahr -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 30y/o -- 67 caps, 7 goals, 4 assists
CM -- Jesper Porsche -- FC Felsenkirchen 1879 -- 22y/o -- 12 caps, 2 goals, 1 assist

Thorsten Kramer is the greatest player in our nation’s history, and his legend continues to grow. He returns home to Teussen a hero, having brought the National League and Champions' League titles to 1830 Cathair. He’s still missing, however, more international success - this may be his final shot at reaching the World Cup. Captain of the national squad, Kramer is undoubtedly the face of football in this country. Todor Mihailov was excellent at his new club, helping Revolutionaries to a Euraleague title, and hopes to continue his excellent career beside Kramer here. Heinrich Bahr has always been reliable as well for the national team, and could perhaps surpass Mihailov with strong play here. Jesper Porsche is a star renowned across the nation, having already been compared with new international teammate Thorsten Kramer, and he has been class on 12 caps so far, very much the future of this national team.

Left Wing

LW -- Andrey Bunev -- FK Metropola Borograd -- 27y/o -- 18 caps, 4 goals
LW -- Lojze Kokalj -- Olympia Borograd -- 28y/o -- 61 caps, 14 goals

The dual between Kokalj and Bunev at the AOCAF was settled as Andrey Bunev clearly made his mark on the team - and Bunev staked his claim even further by recording an astonishing Republikaliga campaign, as the league's Golden Ball recipient. They are similar-style players, both very difficult to mark and explosive with the ball.

Centre Attacking Midfield

CAM -- Leopold Bliznakov -- Oakstone (EUR) -- 29y/o -- 55 caps, 11 goals, 20 assists
CAM -- Zdeno Stajskal -- Vrnovo Mesto -- 21y/o -- 3 caps, 1 goal, 2 assists

Leopold Bliznakov was the annointed heir of Viktor Dimitrov as talisman on this team - but since then, the team has suffered two poor qualification campaigns, and not made much progress at the AOCAF. He was serviceable in Qualifying, but has had trouble dealing with the pressure of the national team. Zdeno Stajskal, meanwhile, greatly impressed at Qualifiers and has every shot of ending up with the #10 jersey by the end of this tournament.

Right Wing

RW -- Lukas Tauscher -- Brinemouth (NPH) -- 30y/o -- 111 caps, 33 goals, 21 assists
RW -- Florian Krukenberg -- FC Felsenkirchen 1879 -- 25y/o -- 22 caps, 9 goals, 12 assists

Lukas Tauscher is the dominant player here, and maybe the best attacking player in the team. His move to Brinemouth proved fruitful, the club winning the Nepharim Premiership title in his first season, and Tauscher won the Iron Fist as debutant of the year. He’s a true star, and one the Goldhorns can count on. Florian Krukenberg. has become a force at Felsenkirchen alongside Vanorian superstar Lothas Ludwig as the club continues to compete for titles - and Krukenberg could make an incredible impact here.

Centre Forward

CF -- Wilhelm Hielscher-Zendagorta -- Cazadores Cathair (AUD) -- 21y/o -- 3 caps, 5 goals
CF -- Stanimir Ilev -- CA Paulinthal (PAS) -- 35y/o -- 52 caps, 32 goals, 1 assist
CF -- Michael Ribbeck -- AFC Treason (NPH) -- 34y/o -- 133 caps, 109 goals, 3 assists

After an incredible performance at the AOCAF, Wilhelm Hielscher-Zendagorta appears to have won the #9 shirt as Siovanija & Teusland's leading forward. It's a remarkable achievement given the competition - the reigning goalscoring champions of both the Nepharan and Pasargan top divisions. But the incredible AOCAF showing, combined with youthful excitement and skill, has given WHZ the leg up. Behind him, Ilev has been absolutely lethal in the Pasargan league, unplayable on his day, and winning the Golden Boot each year he has been in the league. And in the national shirt too, he has been excellent with 30 goals to his name. Ribbeck, meanwhile, is the country’s all-time leading goalscorer, and its most-capped forward.

Preferred Starting XI: Heuser; Steimle, Jager, Maksimov, Vesele; Kramer, Bahr; Bunev, Bliznakov, Tauscher; Hielscher-Zendagorta

Vilita Roster - Post WC89Q Better Tournament of Awesomess

Postby Vilita » Thu Oct 07, 2021 8:32 pm

Image

The Football Association of Vilita is based at the Tivali-Ring Stadium (87,000 Seating Capacity) in the capital city of Alikki-Corra, Vilita and many National Team training sessions take place on the grounds of the Tivali-Ring. The Tivali-Ring complex was constructed as part of the Vilitan bid to host the World Cup 14 Cup of Harmony as a replacement to the former National Stadium in Lopinka that was destroyed during a regional conflict. 'The Ring' has since hosted countless international matches including high profile matches such as the World Cup 31 Final and the 40th Series 'B' Champions Cup Final.

Head Coach: NOT Cavuna Aquafek
When you are the first coach in over 30 cycles to fail to lead your team to the World Cup Finals, you get sacked. It's that simple. When you are the first coach in the modern era to never advance past the World Cup Group Stage, you get sacked. Period.

Aquafek will likely return to coach the Turoki Tide in the Vilitan League, but they will not be coaching the Vilitan National Team in the Cup of Harmony. No official announcement on a replacement has been made at this time..

The coaches will select the squad from the National Player pool. Players are listed below, grouped by position and sorted by projection 'Depth Chart' position where the top player listed is most likely to be named the first player selected for that position, and so on. Depth chart positions are determined by performance in pre-cup training sessions, as well as performance and average ratings in the Vilitan League competition and previous appearances for the National Team.

Vilita will often play in a traditionally Vilitan 3-1-4-2 formation with a style modifier of +3.14. Against weaker opposition they may instead play a 3-4-3.

Sanamun came through the academy at Kiiarana and was promoted to the senior squad at the age of 15 after the departure of Super-Llamaland netminder Lukas Bernholm following the clubs relegation from the Vilitan League. Made two group stage appearances for Vilita & Turori in AOCAF 56 at the age of 17 as the Eel-Cat Things eventually earning first ever regional silverware as a player. The youngster impressed helping Kiiarana City to the Tropicorp Cup title and promotion back to the Vilitan League and became a regular fixture with the Vilitan National Team after making their internationstatal debut in goal for the Jungle Cats as they opened up their World Cup 81 Qualifying campaign against Kernovi and Rewgwlas. Sanamun appeared twice in World Cup 81 Qualifying for the Jungle Cats without conceding a goal earning the young netminder the gloves as Vilita competed in the 7th Cup of Champions competition, ultimately conceding their 1st international goal against in the fourth match of their career, the Cup of Champions semi-final against Banija. The impressive performances earned Sanamun trust and a place on the team for the World Cup 81 finals. Sanamun would start two matches - a group stage defeat to Cassadaigua and the Round of 16 victory over Sargossa as Vilita would go on to win the World Cup. Sanamun was an unused substitute during the World Cup 82 Finals. After seeing their talents wasted in the Tropicorp Lower League with Kiiarana City, Sanamun became a surprise choice to lead Jungle Strike FC back into relevance after the team had a crisis in net following the retirement of Lafayette Tifoxe. Sanamun now shares the position in net for Strike as a 1B Goalie to Banijan Wanda Kayoute.

Mako Canopii [ - Yeaddin Owls AFC - ]
GK ( AGE: 35 :: [ NT CAPS: 121 :: NT CLEAN SHEETS: 32 ] :: [ V&T CAPS: 6 :: V&T CLEAN SHEETS: 1 ] )
TROPHIES :: [ : World Cup 77 : World Cup 81 : World Cup 82 : ] : Vilitan Cup : Vilitan Declasse :
A member of the Canopii family of Vilitan Goalkeepers, Canopii broke through during World Cup 77 and quickly became known as the 'Shutout King' helping lift the Jungle Cats to the World Cup 77 title. Like his namesake Jungrii Canopii who spent many seasons at Eastal Lunar before finishing out their career with the Yeaddin Owls; Mako Canopii also helped guide the Yeaddin Owls back into relevance in the Vilitan League backstopping the team to a 4th place finish in Season 52 as well as Semi-Final appearances in the Vilitan Cup. Canopii cemented their position as one of the best Goalkeepers in the multiverse with back to back titles in World Cup 81 & 82 including starting six of Vilita’s seven matches during the World Cup 82 Finals. Canopii was named among the stars of the tournament after leading Vilita to World Cup triumph with back-to-back shutouts in the Semi Final against The Holy Empire and in the World Cup 82 Final against rivals Turori. After a career of success with the Vilitan National Team, Canopii was finally able to achieve a major trophy on the domestic front leading the Yeaddin Owls to the Season 66 Vilitan Cup title.

Zelkki Milake Jr. [ - Eastal Lunar - ]
GK ( AGE: 18 :: [ NT CAPS: 4 :: NT CLEAN SHEETS: 0 ] :: [ V&T CAPS: 8 :: V&T CLEAN SHEETS: 2 ] )
TROPHIES :: [ : Di Bradini Cup 50 : Olympic Gold Medal : ] : Stellar Division : Tropical Trophy :
Milake's domestic career wouldn't go as smoothly, however, and after spending 2 seasons in the Declasse after Lonngeylin Coast's relegation, the World Cup winner returned to his roots, re-signing for high-flying Eastal Lunar in Season 46. Offspring of famed Vilitan netminder Zelkki Milake, one of the youngest Starting netminders in history to win the World Cup Final (World Cup 68), Milake has followed in their fathers footsteps by taking on the Goalkeepers Gloves and now trains under their father at Eastal Lunar FC. While not expected to compete for a place on the Vilitan National Team anytime soon, the sky is the limit for the Astronaut Trainee who is also, quite literally, an Astronaut Trainee attending school at the Astronaut Academy at the nearby Vilitan Space Outpost. Despite early rumours that Saltstead’s Federal Government would reject the Foxchester Declaration outright, the Federal Diet defied attempted political, economic and military coercion by proposing a constitutional amendment that would effectively mark Saltsteadish approval of the Declaration. In the ensuing referendum, the Saltsteadish electorate stunned pollsters with a “shy Anaian effect” by proudly and overwhelmingly becoming one of the first (if not the first) nations to explicitly endorse Foxchester via popular vote. As the popular refrain went: “if being among our friends and neighbours is treason, we are happy to be traitors.”

But despite Foxchester casting a large shadow over Saltstead’s World Cup qualifying campaign, Saltsteaders’ exercise of their right to self-determination proved one of the most fortunate decisions in the history of Saltsteadish football. Christiane van Åupħen returned to temporarily helm the national team and led Saltstead to their best performance at the Cup of Harmony since Tlanx-Nulzk Hal’s brief reign, winning a tricky group, comfortably getting through the first knockout round and taking the eventual runners-up to extra time. But it was the inaugural CAFA Cup that truly shone, as the Stallions squeezed through as runners-up before beating former AOCAF champions Ko-oren and future Baptism of Fire champions Pyazhnaya—the first and second regional knockout wins in Saltsteadish history—only to have their first Anaian tournament brought to an end in the semifinals at the hands of the eventual champions. As a result, Van Åupħen has secured her place as Saltstead’s new permanent head coach to face the upcoming meat grinder that is qualification the Cup of Harmony.

Former Saltsteadish youth team director and interim head coach during the nearly-tragic Cup of Harmony 74 campaign, Van Åupħen has secured the position of head coach after nearly guiding Saltstead to the Cup of Harmony quarterfinals and the final of the first CAFA Cup and now has the job of sustaining the performances which got her the job. In many ways a formative part of the Stallions’ early history, the Halsinger has made her mark on the National Eleven by adopting a greater focus on the neglected counterattack that won the Confederation plaudits in years gone by. Van Åupħen has retained one of her predecessor’s co-assistants, with fitness coach and former Stallions midfielder Clement Kolen promoted to be Aleksänder van den Bergen’s partner on staff.

The default Saltsteadish strategy can be summed up in one phrase: “the best offence is a good defence”. The Stallions play a highly opportunistic attack, lying in wait for an opportunity rather than charging head-on, with possession mostly confined to the midfield. Saltstead prefer to play a passing game in possession, while attempting to pry the ball away from the opposition when not, either by intercepting a pass or tackling players. The Stallions will attempt to frustrate and infuriate the opposition and are unashamed of playing for draws and advancing via penalty shoot-outs.

Convocatória do 81ªTaça de Harmonia / Cup of Harmony 81 Call-up
Slightly WIP, but the important stuff is here

Style: +1,5
Coach: Francisco Grilo
Despite being under a... bit... of heavy fire for not delivering at least a playoff, he kept his cool and still delivered consistency despite losing some precious points that distanced New Lusitania from Audioslavia and Electrum. Despite this, optimism for the Cup of Harmony is still somewhat high and the team seems to look up to the challenge

Image
GK António Lopes (OF Académica)
Preparing to be full-time No.1, Lopes is a promising goalkeeper who could live up to expectation. During World Cup 89, he started taking command of the position more, playing the majority of matches and managing to do well to step up to the role.
GK Rui Patríce (União Leiriense)
A trusty goalkeeper and unstoppable on his day, this may be his last cycle. Sadly, the team did not qualify, but now set their eyes on the Cup of Harmony, to which he helped get them here playing some of the high profile matches and saving the Selecção from defeat more than once.
GK Duarte Costa (Porto)
Short but agile, not many would have said much of Duarte Costa when he first came on for the Dragons, exciting prospect. Occupied Luis’ third keeper position once more after two great matches this cycle, one to watch if given a chance.

Image
LB Rúben Vinagrete (Sporting CL)
Held on to the leftback position during the majority of the cycle, albeit with a loose grip. Good getting the ball forward.
LB Nuno Mendonça (Porto)
Broke through into the team better, affiriming his position and future in the Selecção. Good talent defending, but also fulfils the qualities of a wingback.
CB Fernando Ferradura (Tikariot City - TIKARIOT)
One of the defenders of the moment, Ferradura kept his good work up in the Tikariot Premier League earning him his undisputed right as the main centre-back. No complaints from him in another solid cycle. Will clearly be a starter.
CB Vítor Grafanil (CD Marítimo)
One of the surprises of last season was Grafanil, playing in Madeira. His remarkable talent in recovering the ball will most certainly prove itself useful over the campaign. Grafanil played a couple of matches but used his time well.
CB Duarte Domingues (Sevilha)
Did well during the campaign, particularly when Grilo switched to a 4-4-2 tactic. Gives the team versatility in tactic, being a solid off-the-bench defensive hero.
RB João Cancela (Sevilha)
Titular, kept his dribbling, defending and forward pushes excellently and is now the true force of the right wing in the National team.
RB Ricardo Pedralva (Vitória de Guimarães)
Came on several times, proved his worth well – star defending, but has trouble releasing the ball in high-pressure positions sometimes.

Image
LM Gonçalo Guerra (Vitória de Guimarães)
Guerra started out by taking Horto's position away and has now quickly become one of the team's more developed players being able to cross well from the wing and pass the ball well. Great assists from him all cycle long have given him a drive to perform well in this Cup of Harmony, sometimes carries the team from a 4-2-1-2 to a 4-3-3, providing attacking variability strategy-wise.
LM João Pedro (Bemfica)
Still young, Pedro is Bemfica's sole representation on the squad, doubling down on the good performances that won him Young Player of the Year the season before, despite the recovering reds' midtable finish of 12th. Played three matches from the bench, still shows a bit of his young age but looks to be on the right track.
CM Bruno Fernando (Sporting CL) (C)
Reaching the end of his tenure, captain Bruno Fernando is another whose main objective is to get the team where it needs to be before the end of his career. A great distributor of the ball, also carries a potent long shot. Did not feature in as many matches as in previous cycles but seeing him in this current midfield as a coordinator is possibly one of the Selecção’s best qualities currently.
CM João Palhagueira (Valnohar Rovers - TIKARIOT)
Fernando and Caldeirão's old defensive companion, Palhagueira has since risen to the occasion at Valnohar Rovers, Tikariot. A good safety net, knows when to change play and has good vision. His name on the starting sheet was never a surprise and was one of the most consistent players during this qualifying route, should likely continue form into the Cup of Harmony.
CM Pedro Caldeirão (Sporting CL)
Fernando's natural heir at the Selecção, Caldeirão recently won the League. Sharing that great capacity to get the ball ahead, Caldeirão is also more prolific in his netting endeavours, making him a good all-round player. Getting a lot more playing time, sometimes as a new CAM, he is probably THE young prospect of the side and this cycle definitely lived up to expectation so far.
CM Sérgio Azinheira (Porto)
Good passer of the ball and a sturdy rock in Porto FC's midifield. Perhaps a disappointing road for him as he rarely found himself playing but used what little time he had well. A useful player to have in the arsenal.
RM Francisco Gama (Sevilha)
Set to retire at the end of next year after the July competitions, Gama has had a good run and is the usually the national reference on the wing. Mostly gave up the position to Pereira yet still showed exactly why he had an undisputed position for so long.
RM Miguel Pereira (SCUT)
Pereira is an avid go getter of the ball, willing to fall back into defence or push ahead to the final third, making him an esteemed and valued member of the team. Set to replace Gama in phases over the course of the campaign, according to analysts.
CAM Bernardo Veiga (Sevilha)
Good attacking midfielder, despite a slight slump in form comparatively to his performances at Sevilha. Position in jeopardy due to the ability of Caldeirão also making this locale work well for him. Experimental rotation with the referred has left him out of most games this season but has continued to be a great feeder of the ball to the two strikers and/or wingers. Will likely still play a match or two during this cycle.

Image
ST André Silveira (Sevilha)
Despite ageing, Silveira remains constant as the Selecção's best striker, being thorough in his striking abilities. Continued to net goals frequently despite his age, despite not having such a secure position as he once used to.
ST Daniel Jota (OF Académica)
His eternal companion, Jota and Silveira have seen plenty of great matches for the Selecção providing a memorable duo up front, setting each other up well. Continued his customary trend of support, with Silveira an Paciente, regardless of who was starting on the day.
ST Gonçalo Paciente (União Leiriense)
Favoured well at the end of the previous qualifying campaign, Paciente shows promise and a future for strikers in the Lusitanian formation. Rotated with Jota and Silveira and provided great support, will likely play at least one game in the Cup of Harmony.
ST Nuno Silva (Sporting CL)
Silva has tustled plenty with other forwards for the main positon at his home club, but his work has paid dividends as he's included in the 23-man squad for the first time. Managed to start a match and play in two others, Silva shows some promise. That said, his failure to be as clinical as the other three at this stage does put him further down the pecking order.

Image
GK Luís Manuel (Sporting CL)
Luís Manuel shows himself to be a promising young keeper with plenty to give, despite having a weakness in his footwork. Played one match during the cycle as well as the unofficial training match against Royal Standard AFC (ULG), continues to show skills, though with a learning curve.
DF Vilarinho - Pedro Vilar (SCUT)
Vilarinho failed to capture much attention during this cycle, coming on at the end of two matches. Satisfactory performances.
DF José Bento (OF Académica)
Bento is a prospective defender being able to stop shots well and take the hits necessary to prevent conceding
MD Luís Miguel (Sp.Bracarense)
Back in the Selecção, Miguel remains a good player being able to demonstrate good link-up and interplay as well as complementing attack well
MD João Cabral (Sporting CL)
Only just missing the cut, Cabral is a good winger and looks set to join the team on a full time basis following Gama's departure and so is working to impress and shine to make it happen
FD Belmiro (Beira-Ria)
Belmiro showed good pace and assist rates for Aveiro's Beira-Ria side, making him a solid candidate for an eventual slot
FD Francisco Machado (Sp.Bracarense)
Latest young talent, Machado is on loan at Bracarense but shows good promise at his extremely young age. Awarded a mention in the reserves following his performances.

Team Hapilopper Headquarters, Hapilopper City
A day before the Cup of Harmony Group Draw
Nathan Ellis, Dom Probst and Thom Perkins were conducting a meeting in Dom’s office concerning who they wanted to see in their group for the Cup of Harmony, and the three had a hell of a lot to unpack. There were, to put it kindly, some real good teams in the CoH that they never would have expected to see. There was Vilita, there was Banija, Quebec, Jeruselem, Poafmersia, and others that probably should have been in the World Cup. There were other sides that the Haps viewed as possibly juicy opponents and potential rivals – sides such as TJUN-ia, Saltstead, Sylestone, and others.

“That’s a god damn fluke,” Thom said, looking at Vilita and Banija. “Both of those sides should be in the World Cup and you know it.”

“Ain’t that the god damn truth,” Dom replied. “Same with Quebec.”

“What about Jeruselem?” Nathan asked.

“They’re good,” Dom said. “I mean, they’re up there for a reason. But man, I wonder how they’d play in Hapilopper. You think they’d be accepted here?”

“Sure,” Thom said. “If they play good football and they’re interesting, why not? I mean…”

“Interesting?” Nathan said with a strange tone of voice. “Yeah, if they get put in our group, I guarantee you they’re getting a slot on cable access TV here, at like, two in the morning. Either way, yeah, those guys should have been in the World Cup.”

It was interesting to see how Nathan Ellis’s role had evolved within Team Hapilopper. The last member of the Baptism of Fire squad to be a part of the team, and probably the most unlikely person to hold that role, Nathan had evolved from that infamous homicidal thug to being something of a player-coach for the squad. He wasn’t officially a part of the coaching staff yet, but people figured that was just a matter of time. The other players on the squad all looked up to him as a father figure, and Nathan took that very seriously.

Perhaps that was why Nathan had cleaned up his act. He wanted to be someone his teammates could look up to as an example, rather than be someone known for his thuggish assaults on other players. As he took a sip of a cocktail made for him in the office, he thought about what had changed. He couldn’t be that player that suplexed another player or clotheslined someone – without good reason. Sure, he tackled the hell out of that one player during the qualifying stage, but he had a reason to do it – at least, a reason in his eyes.

Nathan was more than happy to go back and pull off one of those cheap shots if he felt like it would benefit his team. It was similar to the cheap shot he pulled off during the semifinal of the AOCAF, where he clotheslined Idai Uster of Banija, in an attempt to fire up his teammates. Sometimes, drastic times called for drastic measures.

But Nathan hoped he wouldn’t have to do something like that. He knew that Team Hapilopper would have a tall order ahead of them, as one of the lowest-ranked sides in the entire Cup of Harmony. Of the 50 teams in the tournament, only five teams were lower-ranked than the Haps. He figured that Team Hapilopper would have a tough challenge ahead of them. But if anyone was good at punching above their weight, it was the Haps. Nathan knew that.

Given how they ranked compared to the rest of the multiverse, the Haps were not a team that should have finished 4th in their group during the World Cup Qualifying, but they did anyway, and that was a result that, to the Hapiloppians, was a massive victory. It was a sign that they could do a lot more than people thought.

But it probably also depended on who they were drawn with during the Cup of Harmony. There were some teams that the Haps probably wanted to avoid. Vilita and Banija were certainly at the top of that list.

Nathan sat there and stared at Dom as he thought about the group draw coming up, and then out towards the practice pitch behind the office.

“Probst, a question,” Nathan asked. “Who’s going to the group draw?”

“Well, I am,” Dom said. “As soon as we wrap up here, I’m getting on a plane and flying over there.”

Nathan nodded his head.

“Nathan, the god damn Cup of Harmony…” Dom started, and trailed off. “When we started this deal seven years ago, I never envisioned us going to that damn tournament and languishing there. We were going to the World Cup. And you know something? I honestly saw us winning a World Cup. I remember sitting here in the office late one night during the holidays. Everyone had left for the holiday, y’all were doing your own thing, and I envisioned us in the World Cup Final. I envisioned Ernie Stevenson kicking a game-winning goal that put us over Vilita. I envisioned the parties that went into the night. I envisioned the ticker-tape parade and the huge party at Hamilton Square.”

Dom stopped for a bit, and then looked over at an empty spot in a trophy shelf, a shelf containing the Baptism of Fire 70 trophy and not much else.

“See that place, Nathan?” Dom asked. “After we won the Baptism of Fire, I had a huge space in our trophy case reserved for a World Cup trophy. Because I was certain we were going to win one. But then it didn’t happen, and I felt like I had to quit for it. I was replaced with that gambling creep, and he drug our team and our sport into the sewer.”

Dom sat there for a very long time. Tears welled up in his eyes.

“I don’t want to be in this fucking tournament,” Dom said. “I want to be in the World Cup. But right now, I’m not sure I… we… have much of a choice. We’re going to be in Cup of Harmony Hell for right now, but we’re going to pull ourselves out of it. We’re going to pull ourselves out of it.”

Nathan slowly nodded his head.

“We’re too good to be in the Cup of Harmony forever,” Dom said. “We’re going to improve and we’re going to get out of it. See that shelf? We’re going to get trophies. AOCAF trophies. Cup of Harmony trophies. World Cup trophies. We’re going to be a better football team and it starts today.”

“Damn right,” Nathan said. “I ain’t going to be like this forever. I’m going to keep playing until we make it.”

See You Tomorrow, Or Someday
Part II: A Hard Week's Life
Part I
Atheara 3-2 Eshialand

Astena, Atheara and Denison, Super-Llamaland

"Hey George! How are you today?"
"Ugghhh..."
"What's wrong?"
"Just the week I've been having, that's all..."
"Do you wanna talk about what happened?"
"You know full well what happened, Rebecca! It's been all over the news for days. Everything that made this week terrible has been all over every media outlet from Maryansk to Cincinnati, Ottawa to Marquette, and even the foreign ones..."
"I know what happened, but I thought that maybe talking about it would help you feel a bit better? Maybe it would help release some of your feelings?"
"Okay then, I guess I could tell you what happened. The week started with our friendly match against Atheara, which we lost..."
"Lost?"
"Yes, to Atheara!"
"Ouch..."
"And it would've been a draw too if Alex had just kept everything shut down in the stoppage time! Coach says he's gonna start Meers against Huayramarca in the next match, but will that even be enough?"
"Woah woah, you're spiraling. This was one match, just remember that. It's just a friendly, it doesn't really matter."
"Oh really? Just one match? Then let me tell you about the group draw!"

George shared his screen with Rebecca, showing a graphic with each of the teams drawn into Eshialand's Cup of Harmony group.

"Okay, yeah, so that is kinda rough..." Rebecca replied as George turned off his screen-share.
"Tell me about it! Vilita and Savojarna again? Those two are cursed to always play each other, and we're gonna wind up being the victims again!"
"Well, look on the bright side, at least you know you can draw Vilita! And you just beat Mertagne, so doing it again won't be that hard..."
"I know, I know, but I also know we can't make the knockouts..."
"So? Does that really matter?"
"It kinda does... we were drawn into Group F, so we'll be playing in Zwangzug. I'm worried you won't be able to make it there in time for the end of the group stage..."
"Hey, George? Look at me. I'll find a way, no matter what. If worse comes to worse, we can always see each other back home in Eshialand. We'll always be able to see each other there, right?"
"Well..."
"George, everything's gonna be just fine. What's your next match?"
"I guess we have a friendly against Huayramarca once Coach gets back from Sylestone?"
"Good. Focus on that. Focus on tomorrow, yesterday will only disappoint you."
"Right, yesterday will only disappoint me."
"I love you George..."
"Love you too Rebecca..."

George shut his laptop again and let out a slight smile. He took a sip of his chocolate milkshake, and thought about what might happen tomorrow, or someday. When he and Rebecca could finally be together once again.

Jose in his Director Room... / Mugel and Harper in their hotel room... / Lyzen and Kristian in their hotel room...
All on a Scopespread room...

"As many have heard on what has happened behind the scenes, the Cup of Harmony group draw has actually happened. Atheara are placed in an odd Group J with Milchama, Darmen, TJUN-ia, and our top seed is HUElavia of all teams. I want to ask the lot of you on what do you think about this draw?" This was Jose's question for both coaches Kristian Johansson and Lyzen Oddenorf and the two Athearan goalkeepers, Mugel Krygorf and John Harper. Though Harper would probably not have an answer to that, the other three do.

"Also, before you three answer, i just want you all to say how many points are possible from those four teams, in that absolute order. Just for simplicity sakes and so that Harper can also put in his opinion, because we all know he can't talk." Jose says to everyone before sipping his moccalatte coffee. The AC in his room though has cooled the coffee off for quite a bit, so it's not as hot as he expected the coffee to be. But, he doesn't really like hot coffee in the first place, so he doesn't mind about it at all.

"I predict for a possible 3 from Milchama, 3 from Darmen, 1 from TJUN-ia and HUElavia." That was what Kristian said. "Still the optimistic kind of fellow are you eh, Kristian?" Jose asks to him. "I predict a possible 3 from Milchama, 3 from Darmen, 1 from TJUN-ia and 0 from HUElavia." That was Lyzen's answer to the former question hosted by Jose. "Oh come on Lyzen, at least be slightly hopeful. Sure HUElavia have a high rank, but it doesn't mean we can't win against them." Jose says whilst Lyzen was drinking his black tea.

"To be honest, i am quite on the bet that all 3 points are possible from all teams." That was Mugels' answer on how many points could be possibly earned. "To be fair, you are right Mugel. Why were we having this questionnaire anyway? But, it's not all that simple. Alright Harper, what's your answer?" Jose asks to Harper. Harper flashes three fingers, then pulls his fingers back and then forms another 3, then does it again and shows 1 finger on both hands. "So, 3 points, 3 points, 1 point, 1 point. Got it." Jose says simply.

"Alright, so, that was all. You can go back to your activities." And just as Jose said that, Lyzen and Kristian went out of the room, slightly garing onto eachother. Meanwhile, Mugel and Harper went piggyback riding out of the room, with Harper hitting his face on the top of the door, probably going out on a goalkeeper hang-time. "Ah, those two, always doing it on themselves." Jose laughs to himself. He just hopes Atheara doesn't get battered like the last time they were in the Cup of Harmony.

"Ugh, AGAIN? I've done so good on the charts to get the captaincy, and now Yamjune gets it AGAIN? How crazy are his fans to push him towards a captain's armband?" It was safe to say at Kirkham that Adult Royce was angrier than a hoe that he almost had turn into a wife while getting drunk. This was the third straight tournament that Kimmi Yamjune was the captain of Chartistan, and between this and the World Cup 89 qualifiers, Royce was the one robbed of the spot. The days of Latte, Coriel, heck even Rodgers getting to wear the armband during the 87 qualifiers, seemed like distant memories. Royce had all the hallmarks of a rags to riches story, from arriving in Qasden for the Wonder Cup as part of Chartistan's inaugural squad as a goalie to transitioning to the attack, but when it was time for selection, as Royce needed the top position to stay, Yamjune lit up like dynamite and slid into the captaincy smooth like butter.

It just felt like a big bag of... Uff. He was once again 2nd best, and he felt... Done. Yamjune, captain of Chartistan forevermore, it felt like an insult. A huge insult to the talent he has. He didn't mind Yamjune lifting the trophy for the Wonder Cup dusk bracket, but now seeing him attempt to lift the Cup of Harmony trophy for a 2nd time made him feel angry. Combbrush described him as "His captain", ignoring Yamjune for the talent he truly has, even if during the transfer window nobody wanted him or Exnash. If he deserved to be the captain in the manager's eyes but gets robbed because a bunch of Billboard teens wanted Yamjune, the best player in the MULTIVERSE in their eyes, to once again guide his country to glory, why even try at this point?

Royce stormed into the office of Combbrush with the face of annoyance and anger. "Drive me to Hell in a drop-top, Combbrush. I can't stand one more SECOND of Captain Yamjune talking in front of my face when YOU say that I am the deserving captain! How many teenage girls would want ME to be the captain instead of the man-bod from Gaon? Huh?"

"Listen, Royce," Doctor Lucas answered back. "I know you are my deserving captain, but let's not get into the conversation about the Hot Chart-"

"SO WHAT? Tell me WHY it's so hard to even hold onto position when everyone votes against you? I have seen so much fucking shit and so many inhumane beings calling me a scrub while I CONSTANTLY PERFORM HIGHLY! So many sleepless nights fearful that the teenagers are going to bonk my butt back to Juvencus and strip me of what I have earned for YEARS! I do the same freaking things as Pop Group Reject #7 and yet he gets awarded with the captaincy while I don't!"

"Royce, you can't control the teenagers that have a say in this matter, it's best to wait for the World Cup 90 qualifi-"

"WORLD CUP 90 QUALIFIERS!? By then I'm probably not going to be in the captain conversation and instead Wank Hesky will captain this fucking country and sip an Oreo shake with 2 straws while doing an Alabama jamma! We'd be TENTH IN THE GROUP with that stain to Musicville up top!"

"Wank Hesky, huh... An AJR if I've ever seen on-"

"AJR!? He deserves not to be touched with a hundred-foot pole!"

"Yeah, maybe you are right. But listen, if he gets top spot, he gets the captaincy. I can't change that Royce. You have to deal with the things you got. I've never seen anybody as cold as you when you're playing, but talking about this petty thing like being the captain when someone else is on top is making you look like a fireball. Leave this all behind and maybe you and Yamjune might do something incredible with you."

"THEN STICK YOUNG BRANDONSON UP TOP WITH HIM AND SEE ALL THE MISTAKES HE MAKES WITH YAMJUNE! Just wait until the game against the LI okay? I'll show you that you've been missing NOTHING!" And off stormed Royce with an anger that he hadn't seen before. Maybe Chartistan would be better off without Royce, but either way he was so done. Literally. Perhaps the game against the Licentian Isles would be his final game in a Chartistani shirt... Only time would tell.

Your Face Looks Familiar...

HUElavia gets familiar and new opponents in the most stacked Cup of Harmony.

Despite the "relegation" to the Cup of Harmony, HUElavia was seeking to make a name for themselves and possibly a deep run in the Cup of Harmony. Having the 9th-best odds to win it all, HUElavia was officially set to Pot 1, and were hoping to get a decent group. Fortunately for them, they got that decent group. HUElavia (31) was put in Group J with the likes of Milchama (132), TJUN-ia (47), Darmen (57), and Atheara (84). In general, this has a good potential for the team to make it directly into the Round-of-16, but there are Trap Games, especially against two familiar foes: TJUN-ia and Darmen.

For TJUN-ia, this is a meeting between two regulars in the Independent Associations Championship, who have been trying to win it all in that regional competition, only to fall short. Against Darmen, a former World Cup regular, this was the team that eliminated HUElavia in Cup of Harmony 79 by a blistering 4-1 scoreline in the Round-of-32, which was an upset loss for Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos. Now they have the chance for revenge, and conveniently enough, it will be against Darmen that HUElavia will start their campaign. With Atheara and Milchama, they can definitely get victories, but anything can happen in Football, so they are not to be taken lightly.

HUElavia will be playing their matches in Zwangzug, a nation that HUElavia had defeated back in their World Cup debut in World Cup 83, 24 years ago. Their opening match of Darmen vs. HUElavia on Matchday 1 and Matchday 3 of HUElavia vs. Atheara will take place at Wayr Stadium, in Outrive. The matches on Matchday 4 of Milchama vs. HUElavia and Matchday 5 of HUElavia vs. TJUN-ia will take place at Bug House in the college town of Twineur. It was announced by the HUElavian Football Association that the following Uniforms will be worn during the Group Stage: Home Uniform vs Darmen and vs Atheara, Away Alternative vs Milchama, and Special Uniform vs TJUN-ia. The team is training well under the orders of Conavacio, as he looks to develop these young players for the Regional Cycle that is IAC 14 in two years time. Fans are flocking by the thousands to Zwangzug, looking to enjoy their time and make great experiences at the matches and with the locals, always in a festive and happy mood to cheer with the local populace.

"So who do we got again?"

"What do you mean? We got eliminated from the World Cup. We're only looking at cricket now and frankly I don't think Milchama can make up the 281 run deficit on day 5 with the Krytenian bowling attack being as good as it is."

"Remember the Cup of Harmony"

"What's that?"

"It's the cup where all the World Cup losers play to win"

"Oh yeah weren't we good at that?"

"Yeah we have 3 victories which is second most all time"

"Hey that's excellent"

"Pretty much"

"So we should do well?"

"Eventually, yes but probably not on this go around"

"You're saying we're going to be here multiple times?"

"I mean at minimum it takes 3 World Cups to actually get anywhere near decent. We're ranked 132 and in Pot 5 of 5 pots"

"Oh, hmmm... good point"

"Yeah we're basically screwed aren't we?"

"Nah, we're not screwed but we knew that joining international soccer again was going to be a long climb back. It's not like baseball where us just being better than everybody else makes it easy for our U21 team to break to octos"

"Ok that's fair"

"So then who are we playing in this Cup of Harmony?"

"We're in Group J"

"That's auspicious"

"It is"

"And here are the teams:
Group J:
Milchama (132)
TJUN-ia (47)
Darmen (57)
HUElavia (31)
Atheara (84)"

"Not bad"

"Nope"

"So who are they?"

"TJUN-ia we already faced and they beat us twice"

"So we'll lose again?"

"Yep a clear hattrick there"

"Ok"

"Darmen is better than us which is bad and I think we faced them before the Isolation and they beat us then which is worse"

"So that's another loss?"

"Basically"

"Cool"

"HUElavia has terrible luck"

"That's good"

"But they are ranked 31 and should have qualified to the World Cup"

"Isn't Banija in this and they're ranked 5th"

"Yeah just because Banija sucks doesn't mean we should be so unlucky to have them in a group"

"As long as we avoid Nyowani Kitara because every single time I read about the situation there it makes me sad"

"True but maybe one of the rebel factions can win and create democracy"

"Do you really expect a Akongo to want a democracy?"

"I mean that's what Malik keeps saying"

"Sure but his sister says the same thing and we all know that she is not democratic. The same thing is true with his father"

"I mean, I guess but he was kinda exiled from the family so he might have different political beliefs"

"At least we don't have any stupid volunteers or anything"

"Yeah, that would be bad"

"Or could be bad at least"

"Definitely"

"No tankies in Milchama!"

"No tankies in Milchama!"

"Anywhoo, who is next in the group?"

"Atheara"

"Who are they?"

"Not sure but we'll lose to them"

"How do you know? They're close in rank"

"I saw it in a dream, they will beat us 4-3 on a 92nd minute goal"

"Ugh that sucks"

"It really does"

"So we're not going to win a game?"

"Nah we'll draw Darmen for funsies and beat a team that's not Atheara to ruin their knock out stage hopes. That'll be it"

"Seriously?"

"Yeah that'll be the cup for us"

"So not bad overall"

"Not bad overall"

"How do you feel about that?"

"I can't wait for World Cup 90 with 48 teams in the World Cup"

"Me too!"

"Come on You Warriors!"

"Let's Go Milchama!"

It may not be the Group of Death that awaits the Sarzonian national football team in the 81st Cup of Harmony, but the idea that Sarzonia could waltz through the group stage and qualify directly for the Round of 16 is pretty much out the window.

That's the sentiment expressed by Sarzonian national team manager Nathan Hanifer and echoed by several players as they reacted to the group draw that put Sarzonia in Group E of the Cup of Harmony. The group features ancient powers Jeruselem, ranked 22nd in the multiverse along with former Baptism of Fire Cup champions Trolleborg, the 35th ranked team. The other teams in the group include Bollonich and Hapilooper, teams that may not have extensive histories with the Stars unlike Jeruselem, and unlike Trolleborg, who have faced Sarzonia in several sports.

"We don't get an easy match in this draw," Hanifer said. "We start out with Trolleborg, which is a matchup that could very easily put us behind the eight-ball if we're not ready to play from the opening kickoff. Bollonich will never be an easy out no matter what sport they play, then we get Jeruselem in Matchday Four, and that could go a long way toward determining whether we qualify for the knockout rounds."

Or determining if Hanifer still has his job, as sources familiar with the Incorporated Sarzonian Government's thinking said some members of the Board of Governors were "displeased" with Hanifer interviewing for the managerial role with Banija.

"It's the fact Hanifer potentially could have walked away from this job to chase a role with an archrival of ours," said a source who asked to remain anonymous to discuss details of sensitive deliberations within the Board of Governors. "Banija are a world class operation, and we acknowledge that, but there's grumbling here that Hanifer considers this a stepping stone to a better job elsewhere."

The source suggested that if Sarzonia failed to qualify for the knockout rounds, either the Round of 16 directly as Group E winners or the playoff Round of 22 featuring the 10 runners up and the two best third place sides, that Hanifer might be advised to seek other employment. However, IFF chairman Zack Wilson dismissed that talk publicly.

"Nathan Hanifer is the manager of this team," he said. "We have no plans to change that anytime soon."

When asked if former Stars midfielder Brady Reynolds was being groomed to serve as manager in the future, Wilson shook his head.

"Like I said, Nathan Hanifer is the manager of this team. There's been zero discussion of a succession plan or who would manage the Stars next. None."

Even so, Hanifer suggested that he was potentially grooming Reynolds for a future role as a manager, be it with the Stars or any other national team. However, he added that he was also doing the same with assistant manager Eric Dent.

"You love to see your assistant managers step out on their own and build football programmes," Hanifer said. "I'd love to see Brady become a manager, but I'd also love to see Eric do the same."

Basians bound for the back?

By Aleticu Corsado | National Team Writer

Group G
Pluvia and the Saxean Isles (79)
Oberour Ar Moro (56)
Schima Bas (152)
Geektopia (44)
Siovanija and Teusland (28)

The Golden Crescent has rolled into the Cup of Harmony amid home country political disruptions. The national team itself has experienced many disruptions, with massive changes to the starting defense, as well as a particularly electric change on offense with the absence of Akili Granada in the starting eleven.

The basians are in for a tough climb if they want to reach anywhere near the top of the group. Most anticipate a fourth or fifth place finish in Group G. Eugenio Tio will have to be on top of his game, as the CoH may present a tougher challenge to his tenure than the World Cup qualifying. With only four matchdays, every result matters. The Golden Crescent will be hunting for a good third place finish that can push them further in the tournament, however unlikely.

The biggest team in the tournament is Siovanija and Teusland, which use a similar tactic to the Golden Crescent, and sport an experienced starting lineup. Geektopia, the next highest-rated team in the ground, placed third in their group behind Cassadaigua and Mercedini.

The basians will hope for draws against them, and some lucky results against the two lower-ranked teams in the group, Oberour Ar Moro and Pluvia and the Saxean Isles.

Matchday Reviews

Matchday 1: Geektopia

Many may see it as unlucky that the national team finds itself facing the top teams in the group in the first two matchdays, with no break until matchday five. Others may find opportunity, pointing out that the team will have more opportunities to improve against competitive opposition before facing more beatable teams. Geektopia is unlikely to falter, but perhaps the basians can find an equalizing result with its creative attacking youth.

Prediction: 2-1, Geektopia

Matchday 2: Siovanjia and Tuesland

The first place hopeful United Republic squad will be the biggest challenge in the group. Coming off the success of their first qualifying to the World Cup, the squad will likely roll past a developing basian team, and provide the team with crucial knowledge on what to change for future matchdays. Unless the team can pull a miracle strategy from the film of their opponent’s first match versus Oberour Ar Moro, they are unlikely to find points in this matchup. Fans can hope that a spoiler will rise up in the group and shake up the standings, providing the Crescent a way forward.

Prediction: 3-0, Siovanjia and Tuesland

Matchday 3: Pluvia and the Saxean Isles

Pluvia and the Saxean Isles play in a 4-3-3 like many others in this ground, including the Golden Crescent. It will be interesting to see who’s system will prevail: that of Eugenio Tio or that of the interim Philip Streckenbach. Matchday 3 will present enormous pressure to succeed from both teams, so it will be a battle of mettle in order to push for points. The basian national team is fairly inexperienced, and many players are not used to the intense standards of year-round competition. Tio will have to manage his player’s stamina throughout the match if he wants to find points against a tough side.

Prediction: 3-1, Pluvia and the Saxean Isles

Matchday 4: Oberour Ar Moro

Oberour Ar Moro plays with a very attacking two sweeper system that is unlike anything most of the players have seen before. With an especially new defense, this match may build up to be a heartbreaker, even if the team makes it to the point where MD4 is competitive. But in the chaos of the Cup, anything is possible. Miracles happen, and the team will be looking for lightning to strike before they are forced to wait for teams to finish after them on Matchday 5.

Prediction: 3-2, Schima Bas

Matchday 5 is a bye for Schima Bas.

Max Ulf, meeting with Tumbran intelligence agent Chris Tanner

Max Ulf was, of course, a busy man. A Mayor by title, a revolutionary by occupation- he was just trying to win a civil war that he helped spark. No big deal. He had just gone to the other leadership for the DFLK in regards to the deal he was working out with Malik Akongo. And the reception from the other leadership was frosty, at best. Many of them had come to the same conclusion that much larger, more sophisticated nations had come to. That Malik Akongo was, indeed, a worse option for Nyowani Kitara. And if he was in charge of the country, well- it could be entirely disastrous for large swaths of NYK, especially their people.

Max Ulf had been working on convincing enough of them- a narrow majority- that the most sustainable path forward to winning the war was working with Malik Akongo. Both Eura and Nephara viewed Malik Akongo as the bigger threat, but once they were done in the South, they would certainly turn their guns to the north. Now, of course, the geography of the land that the DFLK controlled made it tougher for opponents to get a breakthrough. And, of course, the DFLK controlled large swaths of the border with Tikariot right when the World Cup Finals were about to happen. The attention of the world, for the next few weeks, would be on Nyowani Kitara because of that. And nobody wanted spillage of violence over the border.

But Max Ulf knew what most people knew. If the KFF was defeated entirely, and the entire KRF, with the full might of both Eura and Nephara behind them, turned their attention north without having to worry in the south, it was something that could only end one way- in the DFLK falling. And they knew another thing- if Nafuna Akongo defeated her brother militarily on the battlefield, there would be no mercy for the DFLK. Then you'd have Nafuna Akongo ruling, unchallenged, in Nyowani Kitara. All this fighting would be for naught. And they'd all be swinging from the gallows.

Malik wasn't great. But it would be wartime cooperation only. If they could work together to down Nafuna Akongo, well, then the DFLK would have a big say in the future of the country. They'd be able to help draw up a constitution. They could appeal to foreign partners, especially neighbors, to help them defend their rights. And if the KFF were traitors and turned on the DFLK, he was more confident that they could defeat the KFF militarily. Could he win a free and fair election outright? That remained to be seen. But he was adamant that if they had wartime cooperation, that was the way forward.

His inner circle was behind him- for now. Max Ulf was prepared to go public with the idea, since Malik had largely agreed for wartime cooperation- although what that would look like after victory was achieved was anybody's guess. He knew that even though there was consternation within his inner circle, they would not contradict him publicly. Even if a few Generals, particularly General Lidstrom's brother-in-law, General Andersson, despised Malik Akongo and anything to do with the Akongos. But Max Ulf could not afford to think about that right now.

He was about to have a meeting with a man officially known as Chris Howard. He was officially an investor from Goldenfall Investments, a Tumbran corporation- looking at ways to invest in Port Viljan. Businessmen meeting with Mayors was about as common a political interaction as existed, even in the midst of a civil war. Especially Mayors who had a chance of being a lot more than just a Mayor, even if that was up in the air. So nobody thought twice when that meeting was put on Max Ulf's schedule. But as was true of so many things about this war, there was more than what met the eye.

And as the man was left into Max Ulf's office, he rose and shook his hand. "Chris Tanner- nice to meet you." Max Ulf shook the hand of a man whose nametag clearly said Chris Howard. Of course, he was officially known as Chris Howard. That meant absolutely nothing. The man's actual name was Chris Tanner. He was an intelligence agent in the country on behalf of the Tumbran Government, making Tumbra's official overtures to the DFLK. Tanner was here on a factfinding mission. But Ulf saw this as an opportunity. Get momentum on his side. Get a nation who would back the DFLK specifically- ahead of the government in Dewayo, and ahead of the President's brother.

"Mayor Ulf." Chris Tanner said. "You know who I am. You know why I am here. I know you're a busy man, and I am a busy man as well. Let's simply get started?" Mayor Ulf simply nodded his head. "Mr. Mayor. My Government would like to know- what is the gameplan here? How do you plan on winning this war?"

"Well, we plan on total victory, of course." Both men laughed as they continued their conversation. "But seriously. We believe that we can win this war, militarily- despite Corvistone's and Bastion's most unfortunate intervention on behalf of Nafuna Akongo." Max Ulf paused, and then continued. "Our forces may be outnumbered by the KRF. But our men know what they are fighting for. Freedom. Throwing off the shackles of communism. The KPWC does not represent anyone but the elite. Nafuna Akongo has earned nothing- she was simply born with the correct last name. But we want a country of opportunity. We are going to dismantle the chains of communism, and return the power, both political and economic, to the people."

Chris Tanner took down a few more notes, and then continued. "Mayor, what is this alliance with Malik Akongo all about? Can this alliance actually work?"

"This is about wartime cooperation." Mayor Ulf said. "While we are confident that we can win this fight, the entrance of foreign nations on behalf of Nafuna has made it that much more difficult. We've got to work together to overthrow Nafuna Akongo. We have a common enemy- and that is the totalitarianism being brought about by Nafuna Akongo. It is shocking that Corivstone and Bastion have backed her, and disappointing that Háttmark hasn't come to our help. No matter- the people of Græntfjall are showing their support for our cause and our movement, and the people of Sajnur are showing the same. We must work with Malik to take down Nafuna, and then, we will strive to win the peace."

The conversation between the two men went on for about an hour. Chris Tanner asked him about all sorts of things- from future economic plans, to plans to improve Nyowani Kitara's human rights record, and plans on whether a DFLK led Kitara would simply go on a revenge tour, or if he would attempt to build a country that everybody could live with. After their long conversation, things seemed to wrap up between them. "Thank you for coming, Christopher." Mayor Ulf said, as they both stood, shaking each other's hands. "Don't worry- this building can be a bit confusing. I'll walk you out." And the two men, led by Ulf's bodyguard, walked out of Ulf's office and through the maze of hallways at this building.

As soon as all three men left the office, however, they saw another one of Ulf's bodyguards walk up to them. "Odd, I don't recognize this one." Ulf muttered to himself. Small matter- people were being changed in and out of here all the time. But then, the man who Ulf thought was a bodyguard lifted his arm- revealing a pistol. "Man." Ulf yelled. "What the hell-"

BANG. The gun shot was fired. And then, the hallway turned to chaos. Chris Tanner was down. Ulf's lone bodyguard jumped in front of Max Ulf and Tanner, and was suddenly in a shootout for his life. Tanner, while on the ground after taking a bullet to the leg, managed to pull a gun out of his pocket and shoot back at the rogue bodyguard. He hit the rogue bodyguard in the kneecap. As the rogue bodyguard started buckling down, then another bodyguard, came from behind the rogue bodyguard, and simply swung his gun and hit the rogue bodyguard in the back of the head. He was out cold.

"Is everybody OK?" The second bodyguard asked. The alarm had been sounded- all sorts of people were swarming this hallway now, guns out. It was chaotic. Somehow, Ulf had not been hit. But not everybody was OK. His first bodyguard had taken a bullet straight to the chest- he was down, and suspiciously still as he bled from his own chest. Tanner was still down, as he had taken a bullet to somewhere- looked like his left leg? And Ulf had somehow gotten away unscathed.

"What the hell is going on?" Ulf asked. "Take everyone to the hospital." The Mayor commanded. He was spooked- but resilient. An assassination attempt was stunning- but who had done it, and why?

NYK Presidential Guardsman Gustav Isaksson, the next day, at an unknown prison in Port Viljan

Gustav Isaksson had a headache and pain in his leg, as it was simply wrapped up by DFLK doctors before he had been taken to the prison. He didn't ask for pain meds- he'd been in this business a long time to know that wasn't how things worked. Nobody was going to give him pain meds for a headache when he just tried to assassinate their leader about 24 hours earlier.

Gustav Isaksson had spent about a week here in Port Viljan preparing for the attempt. He was simply able to gain access to security cameras through his own hacking capabilities, and at that point, simply decided to watch the schedule of the guards. How they moved. Where they went to. How they operated. How many people were around Ulf at all times. And, of course, guards that resembled Gustav- looking for ones that had a beard, ones that lived further from the premises, and guards who were going to have off-days.

Gustav had found one guard who he would take over. A guard who, Gustav had found out, had a girlfriend. This particular guard, while having a girlfriend, was estranged from his family, who mostly lived as one of the small members of the white minority on the clear other side of the country, in Dewayo. And those family members, of course, were loyal to the KPWC and, by extension, the Government. That guard, his name so irrelevant that Gustav had already forgotten it, had been planning on taking his girlfriend out on vacation to the Viljan National Forest.

And to the Forest they went. A two person, romantic camping trip. Unfortunately for them, instead of the natural beauty of the forest, they met Gustav Isaksson. And there were not many who met Gustav Isaksson unexpectedly, and lived to tell the tale. Isaksson was a stone cold killer- one of the most brutal enforcers the world has ever seen. He killed both so quickly, that neither person barely had time to scream. With a silencer on his weapon, both people were shot. And right now? Both bodies were at the bottom of Lake Viljan, unlikely to ever be found. He didn't even know if either person had been reported missing.

Not that it mattered at this point. With the young man's key, he broke into his home and stole his uniform. And then, of course, took over his shift. Originally assigned to man the front door, he paid another guard 50 NSDs to switch to the direct Ulf shfit. And then, when he walked down those stairs and into that hallway, he was planning on going into Ulf's office. But he had entered the hallway where Ulf's office was, and saw Ulf, along with some other unknown man(i.e. the Tumbran intelligence agent, Chris Tanner).

He had been slightly startled to see Ulf. But now the moment had come. He whipped out his gun, as Ulf's bodyguard whipped out his. Isaksson fired, and then jumped behind a desk that was in the middle of the hallway. His heart sank when he saw that he had missed. Gustav, one of the most feared men in all of Rushmore, missing his target. Aim off by mere inches, which was the difference between massive success and colossal failure.

Isaksson had continued his shootout, trying to make sure his mission could succeed. He had shot the bodyguard. When he saw the bodyguard was down, he had tried to quickly reload so he could kill Ulf and then get out- or, worst comes to worst, kill himself with the mission still accomplished. But it was an absolute disaster. The other man with Ulf had a gun, and shot Gustav in the kneecap. And then, another man had come up from behind and simply knocked Gustav out cold.

He had woken up in a hospital, before he had been thrown, alone, into this jail cell. Gustav had no idea what was in store for him, but it wasn't good. He had worked with the late President Boaz Akongo for such a long time, and now worked for his daughter, the current President, Nafuna Akongo. He had come here to do a simple job- assassinate a political opponent. It was something he had done many times before, although, admittedly, in much easier circumstances than a civil war- it was much easier to do jobs like these when you had the full power of the state behind you.

Gustav had captured enough opponents of the Government regime to know what happened to people like him- who went for the King and missed. The DFLK was smart- getting rid of anything he could kill himself with. They left him a bucket to use the bathroom in, but otherwise, nothing. No shoelaces, constant suicide watch, etc... Because they surely wanted to ask him questions.

Fortunately, Gustav was ready for the possibility that he could get caught. He knew anything was a possibility, and he was prepared for this one as well. And so when guards came to take him to the interrogation room, he was ready to give off an alibi- one that could cause a serious international incident and instability in multiple countries if successful(as if this war wasn't already an international incident!), but one that would do its job- not implicate Nafuna Akongo.

"So." Max Ulf asked Gustav. "Who are you? What is your name?"

Gustav smiled. His plan might be able to work- Ulf did not recognize him. He tried to put on his best possible Græntfjall accent. "My name is Skofti Mikaelsson." Gustav said, blatantly lying to the DFLK leader. Gustav was caught- but not down and out, right? The guard being outside the cell prevented him from trying to damage his own face to make himself unrecognizable. "I work for the Græntfjaller Intelligence Bureau- the GIB, as you know them as."

"A GIB agent, eh?" Mayor Ulf said. "I'm surprised- you're actually telling the truth." Ulf's bodyguard then stepped forward. "We found a number of things on your person when we took you in. You had 700 krónor on you, in cash." Gustav had wanted to grin as Ulf said that, but he didn't- Ulf was buying his alibi hook, line, and sinker. "You had a badge that said GIB. You have a card that says Græntfjall Naval veteran on you. Although nothing says GIB, it's not like they'll give him a card that simply says GIB, right?" Ulf said. Gustav simply looked at the Mayor.

Gustav started spouting some irrelevant, nationalist Græntfjaller bullshit that was of little importance. He took note- he couldn't recognize the accent of the foreigner(Chris Tanner), making him wonder what foreign country that man was from, and why he was present, in person, for the interrogation- although that might be because he took a bullet in the leg from Gustav himself. Gustav's veteran card- fake, of course. The cash- counterfeit. It was a notoriously difficult currency to counterfeit, and he wouldn't have ever dared to try and spend those bills north of the border- but he wasn't north of the border, was he?

"I don't know what to make of this." Mayor Ulf said. "So were you operating under the orders of your Prime Minister, who for some reason, refuses to back me, or-" Just then, they were interrupted by knocking on the door.

"Mr. Mayor!" A bodyguard from the outside of the room yelled. "A General is here to see you!" Gustav simply sat as the door was opened, and the Mayor left the room. Gustav simply started to lean into it, asking if the prison had any sort of Græntfjaller food. Could this act possibly work? After a few minutes, the Mayor came back into the room.

"I am going to ask you again." The Mayor said. "What is your name?"

"My name is Skofti Mikaelsson." Gustav Isaksson said. The Mayor asked if he was sure. Gustav said yes. And then, the Mayor yelled for the door to open. And when it opened- Gustav's heart sank.

In came General Andersson. The brother-in-law of General Lidstrom, whom had been killed when he launched a coup to try and win the civil war immediately at the outset. Not many people would recognize Gustav Isaksson, but anybody who was a high ranking General would be able to recognize the virtual former shadow to Boaz Akongo. Andersson's eyes were blazing.

"Gustav." General Andersson said. "We meet again." It had been a while since the two men had seen each other- it was while Boaz Akongo was alive. Gustav knew the gig was up.

"You're a traitor too?" Gustav gave up the act. "You will die like your brother- like a dog." And just then, the General took threw steps towards Gustav, and punched him straight in the face.

"You murdered my brother-in-law, you fucking bastard." General Andersson said. It was as if both men had forgotten Mayor Ulf and Chris Tanner were in the room. "I should kill you where you stand."

"His choices got him killed. Just like yours will get you killed." Gustav said. "You're a traitor to your country, selling your souls out to these god damned capitalists- you deserve your fate." And with that, General Andersson slapped him again.

"General!" Mayor Ulf said. He looked at him- the look of 'don't smack around our prisoners around our foreign guest- it's a bad look'. "This is Gustav- the real Gustav, the infamous Gustav, the butcher himself?"

"Absolutely." General Andersson said. "I will never forget him. He was always the one to carry out Boaz's dirty work. He won't say anything now, no matter what- he's one tough son of a bitch. But surely, if he came to kill you, it was on Nafuna Akongo's orders herself. But if he's here- then the President is vulnerable."

Mayor Ulf was in shock. Why would Nafuna Akongo try to assassinate him? Besides, of course, the obvious. Was there a deeper play she was going for? Gustav's face would be made known. They needed to send a message to the world of the horrificness of the Dewayo Regime, and show Nafuna Akongo that he had survived.

Gustav would go back to prison. His picture was sent out, and broadcast to the world. The video released by the DFLK over the internet publicly accused President Nafuna Akongo of the attempted assassination of his person, and said that the people of Nyowani Kitara 'would rise up and put her, and her government, down'.

([i]OOC Note: Credit to Tumbra for giving me a map without words on it!
(OOC Note 2: Here is the old map as of the last update, to give context for wear the map is now.)
Map Legend
Red- Nyowani Kitara territory Controlled by the Central Government. Explanations of gains/losses belows.
Pink- Nyowani Kitara territory Controlled by the DFLK. In the northeast portion of the map, they have captured territory from the government moving south on the mainland.
Green- Nyowani Kitara territory Controlled by the KFF. They lost ground on their northern edge in their western portion of land in the north to the Government, particularly Euran and Nepharan military units attempting to push them further away from Dewayo. However, it was a net wash, as their forces along the southern coast were able to successfully push East against KRF units that lacked a lot of foreign help. On their eastern front, a similar thing happened. KRF units led by YPA officers helped successfully push KFF forces south, while KFF forces were able to push west along the southern coast.

Naked News Jeruselem's Aidra Nene and Princess Kate ...

Aidra: This is Aidra Nene for Naked News Jeruselem, we're talking Cup of Harmony 81 because we didn't qualify in the World Cup 89. I'm with Princess Kate, the boss here. We're here to review all the groups in the Cup of Harmony 81.
Kate: Sorry, my live streaming for the day is off because I'm here ... sorry about that.
Aidra: We have ten groups of 5 which makes things very interesting with odd number groups, meaning byes and lots of uncertainty.
Kate: OK, let's start with our group. Group E for ... err, better not say that
Aidra: We have to keep our language family friendly
Kate: That's not easy

Aidra: Group E has us, 22nd seed. Next highest seed is Trolleborg, 35th. They were pretty unlucky not to qualify like us. Then there's Sarzonia! Ranked 68th, way below what they used to be. The next seed is Bollonich, ranked 86th. No idea about them at all. We've never played Trolleborg but we have no idea about Bollonich. And Hapilopper, ranked 127 round off the group.
Kate: OK, we can't complain. We avoided some teams we didn't want to play.
Aidra: Trolleborg despite their name is not a nation of trolls
Kate: It's just a funny name but we know they are a very good team.
Aidra: I guess lets move on to the other groups
Kate: Group A is a lot of unknowns for us other than two teams

Aidra: Top seed in Group A is Yuezhou ranked 33, followed by New Lusitania ranked 42. We've played New Lusitania a few times. Then there's Sylestone ranked 59, we may have played them before. Then Sendhang ranked 96 and Nyowani Kitara ranked 118. A very EVEN group
Kate: We have three teams in the top 60 but none are top 30. It will quite even I think.
Aidra: Group B, another group full of unfamiliar teams for us.
Kate: Well, heading this group is 15th seed Poafmersia. One of the higher seeds indeed. Sargossa is 2nd highest seed, 37th. Kinda weird, I don't think we've encountered them in the World Cup. The Licentian Isles, 74th, Chartistan, 78th and Ottoman Syldavia ranked 151. Clearly there's two top seeds here making it top heavy.
Aidra: Group C, very interesting group.
Kate: In this group is the 5th seed Banija! They shouldn't even be here but they are. Saltstead are next ranked 49, not even near 5th. Eraman ranked 64, Adab ranked 89 and Saint Eleanor 122. All eyes on Banija here.

Aidra: Group D has another higher ranking seed. Savigliane ranked 17th. Next is familar Flavovespia ranked 54 and Sharktail 67. Two teams ranked over 100, with Hispinas 107th and Geisenfried 135. Geisenfried far from their glory days.
Kate: Yes well, I think we played all but one of this group.
Aidra: Group F, because we've covered Group E already.
Kate: Group F has Eshialand in it! Remember them? Ranked 76. Oh dear, the jungle cats from Vilita ranked 18th are here. They are one of the teams we fear. Savojarna are no slackers either ranked 40. Then Juvencus 72 and Mertagne 128, those we don't know much about.
Aidra: We're up to F now, just four more groups left. G to J.
Kate: There's some familiar names coming up soon

Aidra: Group G has Siovanija and Teusland ranked 28 here. We know them from World Cup 80. Geektopia are next seed 44th and then Oberour Ar Moro ranked 56. Leaving Pluvia and the Saxean Isles 79 and Schima Bas 152, no idea about these teams.
Kate: Wow, I thought Siovanija and Teusland would qualify this time round. But we didn't either!
Aidra: Group H has some teams know. None other than Independent Athletes from Quebec who didn't qualify ranked 20. I guess they stuffed up the playoffs. Nevermind that. Huayramarca 48th, and Valladares 75th. Wow, Valladares so low at 75. Then the usual unknowns Le Choix 85th and Lathamford 108th.
Kate: Hopefully Quebec can make the next round along with us. We'll probably run into them knowing our luck.
Aidra: Well Group I does not have any seeds below 20. Zeta Reka and Hügeltaldom ranked 51 and Barunia ranked 58. But the top seed is Squornshelan Remnant States ranked 29 which is still pretty good. Indusse 87 and Britonisea 167th. Britonisea is the lowest seeded team in this cup.
Kate: Looks even here apart from Squornshelan Remnant States.

Aidra: Last and not least Group J. We have Milchama ... ranked 132. That the same Milchama ...
Kate: Yes, obvious they'be come back into the cup again. The real competitors are HUElavia 31, TJUN-ia 47 and yes our friends Darmen 57. These are the main threat in the group. Atheara ranked 84 is here too.
Aidra: Every group seems to be quite different.
Kate: Some look even and some look lopsided with very high seeds ... including ourselves in there
Aidra: So how do think we'll go?
Kate: Well the Cup of Harmony is quite more even than the World Cup. You don't have best teams or the worst, but lots in between. Yes we have a lot of very high seeds but you'll find that's evened out with the lowest seeds not being here too.

Aidra: So you think we can win this?
Kate: Anyone can this cup but being realistic ... not likely. Look how many seeds ranked 30 or higher in this cup.
Aidra But can we make the finals of cup
Kate: I'm sure we could, winning is another matter
Aidra: So why are we going if winning isn't really going to happen
Kate: Well if you don't try, you're not going have a chance. If we're there we might was well as have a go at it.

Aidra: True
Kate: I guess we have to put up with crap that comes with the team going to the Cup of Harmony from our rival network
Aidra: Ignore them, we're just doing our job. We'd prefer to be broadcasting our team in the World Cup 89 finals but I guess that rarely happens.
Kate: Not we've won any Cup of Harmony either
Aidra: Jeru FC won of those, but that's a long time again when it was easier with less team around.
Kate: It's much harder now with so many teams competing, qualifying is a bit of a lottery as it is/

Aidra: That's it from us, I'll be travelling with the team.
Kate: Of course, I'll be watching the results with interest.
Aidra: She's always busy
Kate: Eh, babysitting other people's children. I already have my own.
Aidra: See you all later
Kate: I'll be back streaming tomorrow. Daughter wants cooking lessons ... not that I'm any good at cooking.

The Office of the Premier of the People's Federation of Yuezhou

"I thought Isaksson was the best you had? Unbelievable," Ren Qiang grumbled into the telephone. He'd just gotten word of the failed assassination attempt, and was understandably pissed - unlike certain others, not because the hit had been ordered, but because it hadn't succeeded. "You shouldn't have sent someone so important to the cause for this job, Nafuna. He was needed elsewhere, and sending a team would have been less recognizable as your work."

"He was the only man fit for the job, Premier Ren. I had to do it," Nafuna's voice, still somewhat in recovery after having her ass handed to her by the Nepharans, replied from the other end of the phone call.

"What's done is done, but the situation's on the edge of untenable now. The DFLK will be bolstered by the support. And despite Brigadier General Wang's best efforts, I am told that our troops are struggling to make progress in the south against your brother."

"My...ah, other supporters are demanding I negotiate with Ulf," the little dictator offered tentatively.

"What? Fuck no," Ren snapped. "What are you doing that for?"

"You said it yourself - the situation is slipping away from us. Rushmori boots on our soil, as much as I hate to say it, can keep us afloat. If I make concessions-"

"If you concede what? Some kind of apartheid ethnostate? Half your country ripped away from you? I've fought this war before, and let me tell you something about what I learned fighting this war - you don't negotiate with separatists. Because first it's a few cities in the south-uh, north, and then every little interest group thinks they have a right to pull away just because someone did. You are the only legitimate government in Nyowani Kitara, Nafuna. If one other competitor emerges, then your legitimacy disappears."

"What do you want me to do!" Nafuna countered. "They've all united against me. I can't fight them all without foreign support, and I can't get foreign support to fight them all. If you could offer more support on the ground, maybe I wouldn't need them-"

"That's a non-starter. We've given everything we can. Any more, and we risk United Republics invasion. Look, sooner or later, they are going to find some other excuse to cut off support. They're not your friends, they just see you as the most convenient option. You don't need to cut them off now. You can string them along through some bullshit negotiations. But as long as you intend on keeping what your father built, you will need to cut that rope eventually. It's a matter of time."

"Send more me and I'll consider it."

"I'll consider sending more men."

Katabi, Nyowani Kitara

The Katabi night was surprisingly peaceful, save for the sounds of two boots crunching against the ground. Their owner, Corporal Kang Tan, was running as far away from the YPA camp as was humanly possible. There was no plan, no next steps. There was just escape.

He'd been incredibly reluctant to accept the assignment. But, well, he'd already given up so much to the YPA, moved his entire family to Xilindao. The island was a military operation at this point, where virtually every resident was working for the People's Federation, where defying the government would get you a one-way ticket to Nangang if you were lucky. The horrors brought by the United Republics had united the island in fanaticism, so when Kang was told he'd be shipping out to the Kitaran front, he'd had no choice but to go.

Two days into Nyowani Kitara, he knew he couldn't do it. He'd aimed to fire at a KFF soldier - had him dead in his sights - and frozen up. He'd been chewed the fuck out back at base, and in that moment, the only remaining option was to escape. He had contacts who were helping manage the landing - he'd talk to one of them and invent a reason to be shipped back. As far as plans went, it was hardly the most elegant. But he couldn't spend a day longer there, with the flames of war reigniting in his head after two years of brutal urban combat in the Jiangdongs and the Yinchengs of the world.

He didn't notice the lights until it was too late, and the Jeep that had emerged from the dark forest cover was essentially on top of him. Two of the men - looked like KFFers - leapt out and tackled him to the ground. The third - oh shit, was he Yue? stepped out menacingly. "Yueren, huh? What are you doing out here?" He took a second too long to remember the cover story they'd been given. "Uh, I'm a student at-" was all he got out before the crack of a rifle butt against his mouth interrupted the conversation. "Yeah, that's YPA all right," the man said.

"Let's get him back to base and we'll see what we can get out of him?" offered one of the Kitarans.

"Absolutely. It's fucking Christmas tonight, boys."

Zheng Zhoulun Memorial Conference Room

"She ordered a fucking hit on Ulf?" President Wu Zhongsheng chortled between mouthfuls of wine. "Unbelievable! Ren Qiang must be losing his goddamn mind watching her fumble this."

It had been a few weeks since the United Republics of Yuezhou had openly announced their support of Malik Akongo. Since then, they'd collaborated with the KFF to supply and fund Malik's troops, and had conducted a limited series of recon missions to determine the extent of YPA involvement on the mainland, with limited success. Yet Nafuna Akongo had undoubtedly lost momentum, a fortunate situation for which Wu gave himself an exorbitant amount of credit. "I can't believe she's made the laowai the good guys here. Ulf had absolutely nobody behind him before that little stunt of theirs."

"Nafuna has her backers now, but I can't see them sticking around after that stunt without serious concessions," Foreign Minister Zhen Qiang offered. "And Ulf is still vulnerable. This is Malik's - and by extension our - war to lose."

"It's not assured yet," General Kong Aiguo replied. "Boots on the ground would certainly help get us across the finish line."

"That's not the goal, General," Wu replied lazily from his desk. "The goal is the total eradication of socialism in the Xandrian. We need them - that's Ren Qiang and Nafuna - to split their forces, and then strike decisively at one after the other."

"Good news for you in that case, President," came a fourth voice from the corner - one of Zhen's top aides. "We've gotten intel from Yue POWs on the front. There's a significant YPA presence on the southern front, and a troop increase is on its way from Xihaishi."

President Wu nodded calmly, then turned to the two men seated in front of him. "I'm calling an emergency meeting. We'll have everybody in the situation room in ten." As the others left, he wordlessly slid a cabinet out from his desk, and withdrew his bottle of Zuanshi.

"They won't know what hit them."
