The Pearl River Delta (Oswain) Transit Authority is looking to extend the South Island Line from its current termini in either Aberdeen or South Horizons to the State University Station.
The South Island Line is currently a medium-capacity railway system with a rail gauge of 1,435 mm (Standard Gauge), using Standard Car No.3 produced by Pearl Heavy Industries. It can carry 85,000 passengers per direction per hour at its peak. The current system has stations at Admiralty (also a transfer station with the East Rail Line, Island Line and Tsuen Wan Line), Happy Valley,Ocean Park and Wong Chuk Hang, where it splits to form one spur towards Aberdeen, and the other towards Ap Lei Chau (South Horizons).
Upon the petition of the Aberdeen County Council, Central and Western Borough Council and the Oswain State University Students' Union, the South Island Line is to be extended with the following additional intermediate stations:
- Wah Fu Station: This is expected to serve mainly the residents of Wah Fu (I) and (II) Estates. The stations should be located near the border between the two estates, so as to service the most residents.
- Queen Mary Hospital Station: This is expected to serve Queen Mary Hospital, the top-level triage and treatment hospital in the state. Additionally, this station will also serve students of the Oswain State University who either reside in R.C. Lee Hall, Wai Lun Hall or Lee Hysan Hall, or taking courses in the Medical Campus of said university.
If your tender proposes extension of the Ap Lei Chau Spur, i.e. extension from South Horizons, please note that the crossing of the Aberdeen West Typhoon Shelter must be made underground, and crossing by viaduct is not permitted due to county policy.
Additionally, as the Oswain State University contains buildings whose age exceed 100 years and are declared monuments, care must be taken so as to prevent damaging the historical buildings. It is preferable that the platforms be placed directly below the existing Island Line platforms (70 meters below ground), such that transfer can be facilitated easily.
Please submit your tenders with the duly completed form attached below in person at the drop boxes at our offices, or by mail to the following address:
