"Well I can imagine with everything else that's going on." He was mostly talking about the events with the Duchess, though he really didn't have strong opinions on it either way, whether Joel talked about that, something else or both would probably come out. "Ah you know the old Battleaxe she's her usual self."

"I heard that!" she said emerging from the storeroom as the shop began to clear with the rush receding like the tide. "Maro, I swear I have to chase after you to do something as much as our children. I asked you to light a lantern or two. It's going to storm again soon. Hello again, Joel, it's good to see you again. Won't you have some bread I just made? I also would like you to take some to Sunplena. I know you're really here to see her and little Gracia." She smiled handing him the basket.

"Likewise Fulmo." I reply with a beaming smile as she hands me the bread basket. "Sure, thanks a lot." I add as I take a small bite out of it. "Mmh, delicious! I'm sure your daughter and granddaughter will enjoy it. By the way, are they around? I can't wait to see them again."

Cartoonia wrote:“Very interesting” Alphonse replies, as he writes down everything being said. A tradition going back to what might possibly since ancient times, which is a feat of amazement since many traditions from Cartoonia are mostly from the late 19th century. Harvest times, the changing of seasons, tributes to their god, which is something he might look into later, it sounds something out of medieval times, and it is absolutely interesting.

“Very interesting stuff. This Madokamisim sounds intriguing. I will have to check this out too”. Before he continues with the questions, the tea arrives.

“Oh, do you have any pie? I would like a slice of pie please”.

"Indeed we do have pie, all around?"

"Pie sounds great, slice of blackberry for me."

Waitress took their orders for pie, just about any flavor was offered for whatever was desired "I'll have that right out for you."

"Medieval does sound about right, we can confidently say written records go that far and written records sadly have been a bit scarce in the pre-unity days. Between storms, wars and anything else a lot of early history is lost, only survived by oral legends in scant areas of the islands. That's the best part of the festival in the modern era, we can really start writing new history of how our faith interacts with the rest of the world. The festival has only become a very tourist attraction in the last half-decade or so. I'd say most don't mind, it's a great way to share our traditions and beliefs, as Madokamisim has never been about proselytizing."

“Ah, apple pie sounds good please”

“Same please” Yukari responds, taking pictures of her drink. After the waitress left, Al continues to take note of everything she says.

“Madokamism really sounds interesting. And this festival is starting to become an tourist thing? It’s amazing what could happen in half a decade or so. Speaking of tourists. What is the rough estimation of tourists to these islands at this time? Is it any different from last year? Also, how do most of the locals take it, the influx of tourism I mean?”

Kochi, Hoshino.
Before I could reply to my Aunt's question, the whole thing with the cat happened, which led me to turning to my Aunt and telling her: "I saw a cat."
"Me, too.", she said with a smile and entered, leading us in and through the whole ordeal at the reception desk. I smiled, one of the sisters really seemed to be around my age. But as said, my Aunt took the lead, switching back to English: "And a room we need, so tere is a business opportunity for you." She let a beat pass. "If possible, a room big enough for two occupants or two seperate rooms. If the latter, they can be small, too. I doubt we will be here for much time except for sleeping."
That was right - we would be hiking.

Kochi Village

"We got a room that will suit you perfectly. Now then, let's see, simple fee of 100 Credits upfront and you're all set." The oldest took down their names and logged them in their book. "Very good then, Shino, why don't you take them to the their room, and I'll watch the counter for a while."

"Sure! Please follow me, it's right this way."

Before emerging from behind the counter she pulled out one of the glass lanterns for their room "Come on this way. " She lead them down the hall of rooms "Again, I really do want to say sorry for mistaking you, I thought you might be someone else. We usually don't get many visitors from beyond the islands, usually just people from up north heading to Port Aya, and well...Eh it's not important!" She smiled brightly as she lead them down to the end of the hall opening the door for them, it was a spacious enough room for the two of them to have some comfort. Shino set the lamp down on a little desk "This will be your light when it's dark and to get around if you need to." Drawing the curtains open to a little window which she also opened "Public bath is just around back, sorry about the lack of a private one. Toilet is just in here. We do serve dinner here if you like, sis does know how to prepare a good meal if you like. Oh and if you see a little black cat roaming around, that's just Midnight, he's like our little brother in a way. You probably saw my little sister, Tama chasing after him, they'll be back before too long. Any real questions or concerns you can ask me but sis might be the best to ask, she's really the one running the place."

Port Aya, Hoshino

Kaori nodded with a smile "I am! I'm always asking questions, isn't that right Georgie?"

Parroting again with her puppet, "That's right, Kaori is always asking questions, it's how she learns."

Her mother gently patted Kaori's head as she smiled back "That's that then. Come, it's ready."

Plates of a large seafood spread were served up with anything you can like, obviously the freshly caught shellfish of lobster and crab were the highlight but for others regular fish were plentiful and abound to pick from, all kinds of home made seasonings were there to pick from, fruits, rice and even a few veggies were also up for grabs.

"Ah a lovely meal for a lovely afternoon." The Matron said sitting with her choices. "The kitchen staff have outdone themselves this time."

Port Aurora

"Wow Navy Officer huh?" Kanata said with a bit of surprise and curiosity, "Haru and I both opted for Priestess service when it was time to commit ourselves"

"Simple fact is, Kana here doesn't have sea legs and is spooked by bad weather easily"

"She's blunt but she's not wrong. Oh well, it's fine, we're farmers anyway so sea travel isn't really something we have to worry about. Plus if Haru was willing to do that for me, that's how I know she's my soulmate."

"I rather love the sea myself but hey. Sorry, we're making this about us aren't we?"

"Yeah sorry about that."

Sky Reavers wrote:"Alright. Then I am gonna just chill here! Later dudes!"-Liam gave his goodbye and thought about what he desires. This place has much to offer, and it's very confusing. Maybe first step is bar? Cabaret? Festival? Or vast and lush wilderness? Perhaps, Liam should take "Indecisive" as his nickname? Because right now, he felt like Buridan's donkey. A donkey, who saw two stacks of hay and couldn't decide. And starved to death.

Luckily Liam wasn't a donkey and decided to go to a random place, whatever catches his eye first. It was a rather nice beach bar, where he can refuel, eat and exchange stories. And so, he went on to get drunk like there is no tomorrow, just as Sky Reaver long lasting cultural traditions, which existed since the revolutoin dictate. He took his seat near the bar stand and asked -"Yo, dude! What's on tap today? Mah' intuition says, ya' got some special rum, one can't find anywhere else! Am I right? And... Do ya' know about some interesting or unusual places round' here? Or perhaps any stories? I am here for the first time, and as far as I know, guides don't tell about the most interesting thingies. I can also tell something about affairs and life back home, on Sky Reaver territories, the land of the free, brave and awesome!"

Serving the drinks at said bar was the owner of this little popup stand one Kei Junochi, outside she looked tough, fit, busty, intimidating eye patch to add for good flavor, but inside, she was a sweetheart if you got to know her. "Rum you want, eh?" She said when he started asking about good on tap, "Rum you'll get then" She served up a glass "My own special mix. But the recipe is my secret. So, looking for interesting places huh? Well I guess that's going to depend on your definition of interesting for you. Culture you're looking, Port'ss good, more the taboo stuff, I know that too. Same with stories, I'm usually the one listening more than telling but I guess I can tell you something if you want. But don't let me stumble in the dark, light the flair for me." she also offered a bowl of tree nuts if he desired, seasoned with sea salt. "But either way, welcome to the UIS, a tropical paradise on earth, old fashioned and that's the way we like it. I've fought for her and sailed the seas around her and have paid with my right eye." She said that still smiling. "Rain, wind is not a problem for me. Got a feeling it won't be for you."

She gave him a set of directions, Kino wasn't as organized of a port as say Tsubaki or Aurora were where homes were nicely stacked in rows, it was a bit more chaotic but people just sort of knew how to find their way around with the right direction. "If ever in doubt you can always talk with Matron Urakana, she can always help find her parishioners."

"We're all very surprised about the speed but I guess word of mouth carries. I don't have the numbers off the top of my head, that's a stat the Foreign Office tracks based on visitors but I assume it's a few thousand from abroad. We had wondered if the recent issues with our relations with the Sultanate of Kyrenaia might cause a dip but the FO is saying numbers haven't really declined that much from last year. Like the tide, these do ebb and flow and we're expecting average to above average this year. Even with a pandemic around parts of the world putting some dents in that. Locals for the most part are rather happy about it. There are the old fashioned types who think it secularizes the festival or makes it trivial but what's a festival without others to celebrate? It also shows how we've healed after the war. On a personal note, the war was just before my time but the time of my parents and grandparents before me and from them I learned things. I can tell you, last thing anyone wanted to see then was foreigners but now it's two decades later, tourism has lead to our economy is booming in a sort of way. Sure compared to nations around us, we're probably anything but rich, but we're rich right in our own little corner of this giant ocean of ours."

Liam looked at the bartender. A rather badass woman, who looked rather intimidating. "If someone starts shit in this bar, she'll make that asshole regret and rethink all the life choices, that led to this."-Liam thought, as he tried some local rum. Strong stuff, has some flavors. "Nice n' awesome!"-Liam said, as he decided that Kei deserves generous tips for every drink. Words about recipe secrecy were challenge words to Liam. After all, knowledge of booze is a common trait among Sky Reavers. He drank a bit more and started to feel, what exactly did Kei add and gained some glimpse insight on the proportions. Not percise though. He also didn't refuse the nuts and found them rather tasty. Whatever they were, they went will with rum. Perhaps, he'll order some more soon as his appetite started to grow.

Junochi wants a specific topic for a story, Junochi a specific topic will get. Hearing about her fighting and losing an eye during the defense of UIS, tropical paradise on earth, old fashioned, how she likes it, caused some parts of Liam's soul to resonate and he asked a question: "So, ya' fought for this paradise, huh? Gonna be frank with ya', I saw that warrior's look in your eye. I wanna know more about this fight for your cause and country. Who were the enemies and comrades? What is your weapon of choice? How did ya' lose your eye? And... most important... what made ya' choose the warrior's path?

Oh, and you are right. I don't mind weather being lil' bit chaotic. Cause back home, it's pretty much messy. Heavy rains, winds n' heatwaves, ya' get used ot it. Also, I think, I can guess what did ya' put into your fine rum."
Sky Reavers are retconned Skyhooked. A bunch of crazy, wild everpartying semi-anarchists, who are resistant to cold, heat and diseases, can can proccess booze like hell. MT/PMT tech. Wanna know more or have a request? It's here: https://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=505973

Remember, the fact, that we are semi-anarchy doesn't mena, that ya' can go around and rob random people. We still got law and order, loose as they are.

Kochi, Hoshino.

We paid (or rather Aunt Blodwen paid) and were on our merry way into the room - baths were out back, oil lamp, spacious room, dinner could be served, most likely for a fee, cat was alright.
My own tail twitched.
"Thank you very much, young lady.", Aunt Blodwen said and put a silver coin, a whole Gil, into the girl's hand, winking. "A tip for you and your sisters."
Once she was gone, we put our hiking gear and lugguage down and got settled in, chatted a bit and decided on the next moves: First of all, we would have a look around the village for a bit. In the evening, we would have a bath and dinner and then see, where the evening led us.
Aunt Blodwen teased me a bit, saying there might be a cute boy, scratching me behind my cat ears. I mewled.
That done, we relaxed for a few minutes and were off, on the streets again a few moments later.

Celina Riar of the Tribe of Monaghan.
Port Aya, Hoshino.

"A curious mind is a sign of a healthy spirit.", Mam said in front of us. I looked at her quizzically. "Sirlam."
I nodded - quoting the great chronicler in front of people, who were quite likely to not even know, who Princess Macha was, let alone her faithful scribe, was an interesting choice, but a better one then al-Hakim, considering the current political climate.
We settled down for the meal and both of us nodded, wholeheartedly agreeing with the Matron. After quietly thanking Rhiannon and Lodan Lir, as well as the local deities, we dug in.

Siana Gualla of the Tribe of Cork.
Port Aurora, Aurora.

"No, no, it's alright.", I said and leaned back, "It's honestly quite fascinating."
No sea legs? My dear Kana, I have the feeling, that you would not like my job on principle. Haru, on the hand, seemed to be quite adept at sea.
"So, you are a farmer and a priestess...", I said and looked from one to the other. Better to ask the next one up-front. "Are you related, in a relationship or 'just friends'?"

"Thanks a lot." I reply with a smile to Fulmo about the directions. "I'll go swing by the Temple too if I have time, the Matron is indeed really nice." I add, remembering our time with her last year.

"Aside from this, I have a small problem with my knife Maro." I continue as I take out from its sheath on my belt the hunting knife I bought here last year.
"The handle seems to move a bit around the junction with the blade. Can you please take a loot at it?" I ask as I hand him the knife, handle towards him.

Pa and me took up the burden of fighting. Well that's how that goes. I served in the militia since, well until it became the unified army, then I moved on.

Kochi - Hoshino

"Hehe" Shino gave a happy giggle when reciveing the tip "Thank you so much, so kindly too, enjoy your stay with us at the TI...Er, Traveler's Inn. Best not get the wrath of big sister again." She giggled again, "Enjoy your stay!" She parted their company, surely she'd see them again as the evening drew in or if the rains came in sooner than later, either way ,they seemed nice and exciting because this inn was as she mentioned usually occupied bu people heading to Port Aya than tourists.

The village streets of Kochi were plenty busy with people of the village to enjoy the festivities. Plenty of shops offering up goodies to eat and good merchandise to take home with great specials for the festival. The trio of friends from earlier still were around to enjoy it as well, sharing a rather impressive looking parfait. "Hard to believe something so fancy would find its way up here." Hina said taking and savoring every bite of her share.

"Well I guess even little old villages like our own can get a special." Ryoka nodded "And well, I might have asked my sister for a favor."

"Must be nice to have someone in a high place." Yuriko said as she looked up noticing a the pair they met earlier "Oh heya, we meet again huh? Aint it a small village after all, wanna join us?"

"What are you bothering them for?" Hina chided back

"Hey, I'm just asking, all they have to do is say no."

Port Aya - Hoshino

Kaori nodded in a sort of understanding, Fumio certainly agreed. "Let's eat, Georgie."

As they began to eat who should show up now other than Kaori's friend Plutona along with her own mother, Saturna now dressed more festive, Plutona in a purple yukata herself along with her mother, dressed in a low cut red kimono "Heeeey," Plutona greeted taking a seat next to Kaori "There you areeee"

"So you got dressed up after all, you look so cute!"

"Yeah I thought you looked cute and colorful so I wanted to as well. So did mama so here we are."

"My my, might we join you" Saturna asked of everyone

"Plenty of space, my dear" The Matron shifted over to let her squeeze in

"And some tourists from afar have joined us too I see. Hehehe finally the people are picking up."

"Good business for you, I imagine."

"Indeed it will be. But I thought I'd take today to enjoy with my girl."

"Sorry Kaaori, mama said best not go island hopping today because the seas are rough"

"Nothing is wrong with facing a little roughness on the oceans, I did plenty of times, but I'd rather have one or both of us together."

"That's okay, we can stay and play here today!"

"Saturna" She introduced herself to the visitors from The Freelands "I'm pleased to meet you. Here for the Festival I take it?"

Port Aurora

"Oh you really don't mind?" Haru double checked

"I'm glad too," Kana nodded, "our village is tiny tiny, we're from all the way up on the Northern Coast of Aurora so we don't get to meet many people from abroad so I guess we're just a bit both awe struck. We're both, we both farm and we both have training as Priestesses. And we're married to each other. Have been for a year now."

"Mhm, everyone has to either serve in the Church or in the military at some point, so we both served in the Church and we're both able to still practice. So part time I guess you could say. Most of the time we just maintain our little plot of land and do our best."

He took the knife giving it a look over "Oh yeah, this should be an easy fix. Sorry about that, my lad, if I had know it'd dislocate so quickly, I'd have sold you a better knife. But I can get this good as knew for you, I'll sharpen the blade too, no charge!"

Cartoonia wrote:“Yes, I have heard of the recent troubles with the Sultanate. But it is good to see rebounding. I’m interested in talking with a few locals about their thoughts on foreigners as well. “You know, my grandfather told me that he heard of the war back when he served in the military though, he referred to this island as a small chain of islands to the east, and considering what I also learned in my region history class, it seemed like a brutal and tragic thing to live through. I can not imagine how hard it must have been to trust foreigners after that”.

"Locals is an easy part, I can help be your guide with that, plenty of people to talk with here. Foreigners shouldn't be too hard either, The Kitan is a good place to be as it's the biggest draw for visitors every year. Anyway, I heard the stories from my parents so I get it. It's why I'm a journalist, so stories like theirs can always be told. I'm glad to see you've come here to tell our stories to people in the great Cartoon lands of yours."

Nia Gwyalen, of Cefnffordd Descent.
Kochi, Hoshino.

We ran into the three from before, of course, it was a small village, after all. While the three argued, I looked at Aunt Blodwen.
She nodded.
With a smile, and the cat tail coiling up, I joined them.
"Sure, I'd like to join you.", I said and smiled, "I'm Nia." Aunt Blodwen tipped her proverbial hat and left us. I smiled after her and turned back to my new-found acquaintances. "Who are you all?"

Blodwen Canatol, of Cefnffordd Descent.
Kochi, Hoshino.

While I sent my niece, or the closest thing I had to a niece, it is very complicated for us Spiorad, off with people of her age, I decided to join the festivities on my own.
There were some stalls selling trinkets and I loved collecting a trinket or two from every place I visited. It helped me keep the memories alive in my head, the good and the bad ones.
I quickly noticed, that there were a lot of festival specials around as well, but that was all the more fine by me. And so I browsed a little, most likely one of the very few foreigners in this village.

Celina Riar of the Tribe of Monaghan.
Port Aya, Hoshino.

"Amy.", my Mother introduced herself, foregoing the entire name and title, "This is my daughter, Celina."
"Hi!", I greeted. "Cel is fine, though."
The entire table had moved closer together for Saturna and her daughter Plutona, who had a certain drawl... I am by no means a psychologist, but maybe a Doctor should have a look at both Kaori and her friend?
Of course, I did not voice any of that, instead smiled.

Lesbians, huh...?
I mean, it's not my cuppa tea, but if it makes them feel happier... involuntarily, though, I tensed up slightly.
I tried to overplay it by explaining: "Where I come from, every child learning the Arts of Numbers and Signs, as the old law says, has to join the Younger Militias. While that is today mostly kept in place by tradition and as a way to teach children survival skills, it was, once, a very real combat application. You might have heard of the Battle of Anfa Ridge in 1903..." I let a beat pass. "I was at the Iris Boarding School, so of course I joined the Iris Pikes - 5th Céadi, served as Escort to the Colours in my last year. It was fun." Leaning back, trying to relax, I added: "In that year, we were called upon for Ceremonial Services and Parade for a state visit by Prince Damir and Princess Aurelia."
Oh, dear... that one slipped out.

The festival was a time of celebration and a time of rest for everyone and anyone in the islands, even leaders, from the highest of high in the Offices of Her Majesty to the minor Chiefs and Chieftesses alike. From Narima Village, the village that was in shadow of the old Kyrenaian military station was not the village's high chief, but rather third-in-command, the daughter Asahi Tamaki, aged 17, she worked with her parents, head of the village most days, but now she was here on vacation in the glorious capital. Well the shaky month (literally) had rattled enough nerves, it was good that the festival was putting people at ease, enough so that she could take her younger sister, Raia, 10 and her sister's best friend, Ouran also 10. They literally stepped off the boat like many others, a bit quicker than going overland but no less rough given the seas were a bit choppy today thanks to nearby storms on other islands. Well nothing they couldn't handle

"Wooow!" Raia practically jumped into the air. "This is the port, it's so big!"

"Amazing!" Ouran said

"Okay you two." Asahi giggled "C'mon, plenty of time to look around later, we should make sure we're settled." It was the first visit for the young ones but Asahi had been here a few times before so she was a bit more used to it and she certainly did know the city well enough she'd be able to guide anyone around would.

"Hey sis, think lots of folks going to ask you about what happened?"

"Oh I can't imagine, I doubt nobody will even know we're from Narima unless we mention it. Besides what can we really tell that everyone already doesn't know? Let's not worry about that, we're here to have fun. But we'd better have a meeting point in case we get separated "

"Mhm" They both nodded as she took their hands, most teens probably wouldn't want to hang out with their little sister and little sister's friend but honestly she didn't mind, any excuse to come down to Port Aurora was good.

Schala

This was the port city of the middle island of the chain, Stillestando, roughly translated as Truce as a historical ground of treaties between the islands but today it was like a lot of the other ports, bustling with excited festival goers from all over. Showing the influence of much of its neighbors it could be a bit hard to say what made this culturally different but one thing was apparent, it certainly had a western motif to it, Euro-esque perhaps but again still largely a time capsule. Plenty places to stay but if asked most would point the lady to the Lighthouse (the name of the inn not an actual light house). Greeted by a small girl, early teens, her right eye was obscured by a patch as well as her long silvery hair but you could also make out a scar. She was dressed in a frilly maid style dress complete with a cute mob hat "W-welcome to the Lighthouse, your b-beacon in a stormy s-sea! C-can I help you?" She smiled holding the log book and then setting it down remembering oh yeah she'd have to write in that.

Harriet and Athena Freezis

It was entirely strange, and perhaps odd; to finally have the chance to spend time with one of your daughters in an exotic territory like the UIS was. She couldn't remember the last time they went on vacation like this, still; it would take a miracle for the rest of the family to join in considering the obligations everyone had, which made Harriet sigh sadly. She would love to be with the rest of her children and her husband, all together in a vacation to have fun, but alas... It might take a while for that.
Still, at least Athena and her can make the most of it during their stay, and as they walked down the street; they found an... Peculiar sight, perhaps reminiscent of the past; one that made the two of the heartedly laugh.

"That brings memories you know?" The Marquise told to her mother as her face was filled with warm of those memories. "I remember you always had Olivia and I go with Jean like that when he was a child, all the while you and dad were behind us and we all laughed." It made Harriet warm up as she looked at her daughter; she had certainly grown a lot since those days, and now look at her, a successful businesswoman and finally after a long time, dating someone that loves her for who she is and not what she is.

"True... That was almost like a while ago. And yet, the moment you two turned teens you decided to the same as well; sometimes to just annoy your brother like he did once in a while as well..." She giggled, those were memories of a long time ago. That was sure.

"Mhmm..." Athena nodded happy as she left some small giggles. It wouldn't be surprising for the black haired woman that they would bump with that group sooner or later.

Oh, dear... that one slipped out.

Kochi - Hoshino

The three girls made room at their little table for Nia to sit down with them, it was always nice to have company, especially a traveler from afar like her.

"Nia" Ryoka repeated to commit the name to memory "Pleased to meet you, I'm Ryoka, this is Hina and Yuriko."

A waitress came by to take an order for Nia if she desired anything, tea, sweets, food, whatever she'd like.

"Good to meet you" Hina said then asked, "Are you from Animalpolis by chance?"

Among the vendors was of course this village's High Priestess, the mentioned mother of our friendly Ryoka, selling a few simple hand made goods and charms of her Priestesses in her charge. All extremely cheap, as low as a single Island Credit but no higher than 5. "Oh you're a new face. See anything you like?"

Port Aya

"How lovely to meet you both." Saturna replied.

A mention of research piqued curiosity for most but Fumio seemed to coil a bit at the sound of that. "Research you say, Miss Amy?" The Matron inquired "What kind? Scientific, cultural, political?"

"And to answer your question," Saturna answered, "for some jumping between the islands at festival time can be a tradition others might stay put, depending on anything and everything. We are the United Island States after all, we should take in the sights of each other's states when we can. But it's also up to the temperament of our most divine Dark Goddess Homukami. Not that I ever mind facing down one of her awesome shows of power. And it would be nice to go back to Corona, which is where my Plutona and I came from before Hoshino. "

"Sounds scary to me" Kaori shook her head along with the head of her puppet.

The Kitan

To be honest, neither were in touch with the going ons of the nation's political scene, so the names Aurelia and Damir completely escaped them, all they heard as Prince and Princess which sounded exciting. "Wow a Prince and Princess huh?" Kana said "Sounds like you rub elbows with some really prominent figures."

Haru had to giggle "Just a couple 'o' hicks compared. Have to pardon our ignorance on the matter, afraid." she pulled her beloved in just a little tighter, just nice to hold someone you care about, between all the steam emanating from the hot water, neither could see Siana was probably a bit uncomfortable with them but even if they did, they'd let it go, just be friendly.

"Yeah both of us raised in the same tiny little seaside village. Not the one we live in now, but just a few kilometers away. The waters are swifter and trickier up north to navigate even in good weather which is why all the major ports like this one are situated in the South so really it's not like we see a lot of people from beyond our waters."

"Yeah this is really interesting to really get to talk and meet someone from abroad."

The sliding door opened up with one attendant, the mentioned young pink haired fox girl, Ren, peaking in. "Good day, ladies, I'm just checking to ensure everything here is adequate"

"Oh my the bath is divine, Miss Ren!" Haru praised.

"I'm glad you're enjoying it."

With the nice breeze it meant a lot of pleasant scents of food could be carried around. "Mmmmm" Raia got the scent almost like a dog "Something smells yummy"

"How can you possibly be hungry?" Asahi had to question given the choppy little voyage they just had.

"Sorry sis, my brain says chop but my tummy says tasty foods."

"Oh all right. Here" Reaching in she handed over 10 Credits for each, still paper money even with a coming push towards a coin based system. "I think I see a stand right there, let's go get you both something."

"Yay!"

The stand in question was a baked pretzel stand, it was ran by locals who of course adopted a tasty treat from time overseas "Oooh something foreign and exotic, sounds fun!"

"A bit of a line, you sure this is what you want?" Asahi asked them and they both nodded "Oh all right." Well she had to expect this taking her younger sister along. It might be a bit of a wait but well it would be a fine treat, even Asahi was getting over the rough and tumbled ride to get a little hungry herself, yeah this would be good.

Port Schala
"Why yes, of course, let me look." The wind rather forcefully closed the door behind them which gave the poor girl a little jolt. "Eer 'scuse me 'bout that, windy day sometimes makes it h-hard to keep the door open properly. N-now let me look f-for you!" She said with a big smile on her face "Let's see, yes yes we do have a room open for you! I can check you in immediately!"

The door flung open again letting the rather strong breeze in, along with another girl, clearly another worker given the way she was dressed, standing taller than her other worker. "Oh heaven's me!" any attempt to prop the door open or keep it shut seemed futile at this point "Guess just gonna have to deal with it. Oh a guest, Orgia, you got this?"

"Y-yes I've got it, Zenna, thank you!"

"You sure? I can help you with anything you know."

"I promise, I got it." she smiled and nodded

"Okay. Salutations madam." Zenna greeted "And welcome to the Lighthouse in, yada yada yada, I'm sure Orgia gave you the spiel already." Origa giggled as Zenna's sort of nonchalant take as the co-worker patted her on her shoulder and disappeared into the room behind the counter.

"Oh and 'scuse me for forgetting to say Salutations. That-that's how we're supposed to greet our customers. Ehe, please f-follow me if you would?" Down a long hallway "B-boy it's quite windy today as you've n-noticed madam!" Origa doing her best. "Matron Zabina s-says this will be the year of the Dark Goddess for sure." taking a key out she opened the door to the nice little room it lacked a window sadly but it was otherwise quite cozy a little bed, a desk for stationary needs and an oil lamp that Origa lit. "If this is to y-your liking? I can always show you another room if you don't like this one. I can also answer questions you may have. W-well if you want. You can tell I'm not good at t-talking I'm sorry. But all us gals here are able to h-help. Oh communal bath is at the other end of the hall here as are public facilities. This building is qu-quite old but she's really held up through the years at least according to Miss Tyre. I can also summon her if you need, she's the owner and manager here."

"Of course!" And speaking of pie their waitress arrived with their orders "Ah pardon the long wait but here you folks are, freshly out of the oven!"

"Thank you so much"

"Uh, no.", I said, "I'm from Bodmin, in the Free Lands. I am a Spiorad."
I knew, why they asked, the cat ears and tail were a giveaway. I decided to ask the waitress for a black tea, please, before turning back to my new found friends. "It's a pleasure to meet you all. I take, that you are from here?"

I noticed the stalls of the many different craftspeople and as I was standing by the stall of the local Priestess, by the looks of her, she asked me, if I had found anything I liked.
"Sadly, no.", I said and shrugged, "Well, I like it, but it's not what I am looking for, let's put it that way around." Smiling a bit sheepishly, I shrugged and made to leave her. "Have a nice day!"

"Oooh, the Freelands, Hina you went there once didn't you?" Ryoka asked

"Yeah I did with mama one time! That was uuuh 2019. during one of their spring festivals! That was so much fun, I'm glad a Freelands native came all the way down here for our festival! And I sure hope your voyage down was a lot better than ours going up to yours. Goodness gracious it was such a stormy trip." Hina shook her head about how difficult a trip that was, only because her mother was such a good sailor did they make it.

"Hehe small world aint it?" Yuriko said giving Hina a comforting pat on her head, "And yeah, we're all born and raised her in little Kochi. Hina here is a farmer well she and her pap are, her ma is a sailor, my folks own the local pub and Ryoka is a Priestess."

"In-training-Priestess." Ryoka reminded Yuriko "My mama is a fully certified High Priestess of the village. I'm still in training officially."

Nodding in understanding "A shame but do take care of yourself and enjoy your time in the village with us." She bid farewell to her brief visitor and moved along to the next.

Port Aya

"Mmmm that would be a shame if that were to happen" The Matron nodded with a bit of a sad look "It may indeed be inevitable given our festival continues to draw more tourists from all over. Well it can't shake my own faith however so I will have to accept whatever comes of it. I think it's great you're interested, anything maybe we can tell you. In fact, Fumio, might be a good time to give you a little test" The Matron threw over to Fumio, seeing her sudden glint of suspicion but also seeing that ease off, really Fumio was worried they may want to prod and poke at her Kaori for being a bit "slow." Kaori wasn't a burden nor an experiment, she was her daughter!

"Huh, I?" She looked visabily uneased by being put on the spot but she swallowed and said "Yes, of course, I can help answer any questions."

"Fumio is my protege, she's committing herself to the Priestesshood so it's important she knows her stuff about the festival, faith and anything else in between."

"Mmmm if you're looking for some fun, I run a pleasure service." Saturno unapologetically boasted.

"Hehe Dear Saturno, I'm not sure that's what they have in mind." The Matron chuckled.

"Perhaps, just thought I'd put that out there for them. Pardon me a moment, I just realized I have to pay my tributes to our beloved Ladies."

Port Auora

"Oh she is is she? I guess I best go find her now. Ladies continue to enjoy, take your time of course if you need anything don't hesitate to ring for another attendant."

"We will, thank you."

"Siana," Haru asked "Forgive me for being a bit forward, but how'd you feel about doing some more sight seeing with us after the Kitan? I mean no need to leave just for finishing washing. Well we'd understand if not interested, just wanted to offer."

"Yeah it's no problem but you're really nice and well we're a couple of yoakles in the big city for the first time."

"Out of interest...", I asked in a whisper, "...when she says pleasure service, she means...?"
While that was going on, Mam smiled. "That is an excellent offer, one, which we would love to take you up upon, Miss Fumio. However, that will have to wait for a bit. I want to first collect impressions, expressions, data, and then analyze it. That step will be, where we will need you." She smiled. He took the knife giving it a look over "Oh yeah, this should be an easy fix. Sorry about that, my lad, if I had know it'd dislocate so quickly, I'd have sold you a better knife. But I can get this good as knew for you, I'll sharpen the blade too, no charge!"

"But anyway, I appreciate the gesture for not charging me, but please allow me to give a little something at least, to keep the business running." I add with a smile.

Kochi Hoshino

The girls were all plenty impressed by their friend's tales of adventure and her life that helped bring her down here, it was plenty interesting to them. "Wow that's amazing." Ryoka nodded. Hina then took up the question "Let me think I recall, yes it was Cuan we visited! That was in March at the time of my birthday too so it was extra special. The Inn we stayed at was lovely too and so many great things to do and see. Oh it was so lovely! Plus" She pointed at the glasses on her face "Some nice folks helped hook me up with a new pair of specs. I cracked mine on the voyage up. I was pretty worried they'd be expensive but folks were kind enough to give us a deal that we could afford. Good thing too, I'm pretty much blind with out these."

In her jovial joking manner Yurika got up and gave a hug to Nia "Aww thanks for keeping our dear Hina's sight!"

"Yurika, stop goofing around." Ryoka slapped her on the back when Yurika let out a giggle about her antics. "You'll have to excuse her, she's a goof." Ryoka said "But Bicíní sounds familiar to me, by chance do they publish a print catalogue? I know it's kind of archaic with most of the world digital now but we're still old paper down here. Just saying might have seen one of their publications on a stand here."

"I recall reading in the paper they had a big party recently. Maybe that's where we heard." Hina thought

Plenty of confectionery stands about but this one stood out because it was meant as a mixed cuisine of Mokastana inspired dishes mixed with native island dishes. Basics like fish tacos to more elaborate mix and matches. "Try our special. 10 credits! A seafood spread with Mokan spices and some ground beef courtesy of our friends from The PUF." the lady running the stand offered a small taste to entice a sale out of Blodwen.

Port Aya

Fumio nodded and whispered back "It is exactly what you're probably thinking." Yeah let's just say it was something that you tended to find in the seedy underbelly of any metropolis in the modern industrial world but no less so here and well it's legal but that's that. "That's interesting and understandable. So it sounds like you'll be observing more than probing." It did make Fumio feel better, safe to say her daughter wasn't in danger with these strangers. The matron heard the idea of trip "That honestly sounds like a lot of fun. I've always wanted to go overseas, right now my counterpart on Aurora is on a year long voyage all over the world, I truly envy her right now. Well in any case in your pursuit of knowledge, I hope you'll have a fun time here."

Auora

"Well that's understandable, I mean no imposition but we hear ya. Well if a pub is what you're looking for, I think we spotted a place on our way here. We thought we'd take in a soak first then go drinking. I mean hot water and alcohol sometimes don't mix as well."

"I agree" Kana said with a little chuckle "For the best we stopped here first. Very least, we'd be glad to have you join us for a drink. Festivals are more fun with more people don't you think?"

"I think I heard where your from, you folks have lost of festivals up there too. Gee maybe we oughta go make a tribute some time."

"Well a little good graces of all the Heavens and Divinity wouldn't hurt us." As much as Kana dreaded the idea of having to take a long sea voyage it might be fun to go overseas somewhere and of course do the things she just said. She always had Haru to depend on either way.

"Ahha I'm glad to hear that! Well I tell you what, I usually charge a repair fee of 150 credits for a knife like this but for you, I'll have you pay 75, half off. Now then, I can get to work on this right away but it takes time, so you go see Sunplena and Gracia and I'll have this set and good as new for you in an hour's time. Plus you heard the wife, rain's a coming in so you'd wanna get a move on."

“Yes, thank you very much”. With the pies on the table, each of them took a bite out of it. Now, Alphonse loved a good apple pie. Often times when he was visiting his brother and his wife, he would have a slice of homemade apple pie, a great apple pie with a nice dollop of vanilla ice cream always made a week spent at home great. This pie he was having right now, is a close second. A nice and crispy pie, a loaded filling, with a delicate and sweet and tart flavor. It was certainly a delicious pie.

“Dang. I got to say. I had many apple pies home, but this is one delicious pie I have tasted. I got to give my compliments to the chef”.

“Yeah. It’s pretty good”.

"And chances are, if you open a random page, I know at least one of the persons in the images. Further chances say, that when it is a boy, I danced with him."
And some of the men, too, but they did not need to know that.

"Indeed I did, good sir, indeed I did. Twenty some years back I took up an AK and well, can't say it hasn't left a few scars besides my eye, it's how I lost it in the Great War for Independence back in '96. Don't know if you know that 'bout our history but that's a long story right there, either way I was a teen when that occurred, barely 13 to be exact but the oldest of my family, I had to do something. My pa instilled it in all us girls, we all gotta take care of our home in some way, my younger sisters fled with the other youngers of the village to protect them and take care of the older and those unable to fight. Pa and me took up the burden of fighting. Well that's how that goes. I served in the militia since, well until it became the unified army, then I moved on. Not against it or nothin' just figured my time was up. Still doesn't mean I can't be taking up something if needed." She listened to him reply including about the weather. "Lovely, think you'll do just fine here because it's the same. So ya got a taste to get to my recipe? Well be my guest, if you're right, it's all on me today."

"You fought like a true warrior! Defending your people and fighting the enemies with fury and courage. Ya' would make a fine Sky Reaver being a badass like that! Bear your battle scar like we do, with pride! For each tells it's own story, of either glorious battle, risk taken, or a lessson from humiliating mistake. I see you are wondering about this scar on my left cheek, and these three on my arm... Lemme' tell ya' their story. I got it 6 years ago in one of the largest terrorist attacks in our history known as "The Venzorian Incident". When a Far Right terrorist group known as "New Hyperborean Order" attacked. It happened, when I was visiting my relatives in Venzor, a small but pleasant town. It started suddenly, when I was drinkin' moonshine with my ol' granpa' and aunt, while two her kids were watching anime. I just sat there, listening to his stories about the revolution.

I planned to go to that fair the townies were enjoying, when suddenly, I heared an explosion! It was loud as hell and it broke the windows. Glass slashed my cheek, and that's how I got that scar. But that's just the beginning... I heared gunshots and panic, and grabbed my M-16 assault rifle, while grandfather found his Garand M-1 rilfe with a scope. My aunt went to the basement with children, while we rushed out to help defend our town. It was like a small organized army of men in black armor with rather good guns, attacking our town and trying to slaughter folks for being "Degenertes" and "Impure" The townies tried to regroup, but we were attacked from several directions. I shot short bursts, while my grandfather covered me from a nice position, picking some bastardos one by one like a sniper, whenever he could. In the middle of the fight, some neo-nazi with machete jumped out and flanked me... I fought him with a stock of my gun... cause got caught in the middle of reloading... managed to beat him but got slashed a few times. This is why I have these scars on my arm. Damn... this was a hell of a fight... Me, grandfather, our sheriff, a squad of his deputies and other townies fought bravely. When the reinforcements have arrived... the terrorists were already defeated. The firefight actually lasted 20 minutes, but hell... it felt like many hours.

After the battle, when we looted our slain enemies, I looted one of the terrorists and found a necklace with a nordic rune. I am wearing it right now... as a trophy. One of the aspects of our warrior culture. I can tell ya' more about it if ya' want. Unlike you, I didn't take warrior's path afterwards though...

As for your recipe, lemme' think... Good ol' sugarcane rum with a bit of coconut for this fine taste, plus cinnamon, lemon and a bit of orange. But there is a hitch! The question is not what you added. It's more like... how you added the ingredients. You didn't just add coconut and cinnamon. You infused rum with cinnamon, lemon peels and cocnut for some time, but added orange juice recently. Before starting to serve it."

Cartoonia wrote:“Yes, thank you very much”.

The waitress smiled "I'll be sure to tell her you love it, thank you kindly. Anything more?"

"I'm fine on my end, thank you very much."

"Of course, madam, and thank you."

If the guests from Cartoonia wanted anything more they could speak up now otherwise they'd be on their way to wherever they'd like to go next for their story. "Well then if you'd like to gather some interviews, I'm here to help, maybe we can start with narrowing some of your first choices. You want to talk to people, the village square where people congregate is a good spot. There's also the kitan's famous public baths. As we say around here, once you get the clothes off, everyone really spills their soul." She chuckled "Demographics, you want to talk to adults, children, teens? Working, or consumers? If you really want to go out of your way to the neighboring villages, I'll be glad to also help out with that." She also had a paper planner book with her she could write a few details in with a nice looking fountain pen to go with it.

The girls cooed a bit "It's like we have a celebrity right here in our little old village." Hina said. "Even if you don't think so, Nia, you certainly are one to us at the very least. Most folks usually pass through on their way to somewhere else. We're a way point to the north and to the south."

"Well there was the hurricane we had years ago that stopped a lot of people here in their tracks." Yurika thought "Well for a day or two before things went right back to normal. Well it's not we complain, we have a cozy place we call home, even if it's comparably dull to the bigger villages of Aya or the ones on Aurora and Animalpolis."

"What's it like where your from?" Ryoka asked "Big, small, busy, sleepy? What are the people like there? Oh I hope we're not taking all your time though, I mean if you want to go somewhere else or see something else, we won't be offended."

"Yeah for sure" Hina nodded in agreement.

The vendor grinned serving up a taco mix, ground beef imported, a little bit of local roasted hog meat and chicken mixed up with local fish, wrapped up in a glazed citrus palm leaf. Taking the money in exchange and hearing a good review from her customer "Soooo ya like it? Took me a bit to get all the mix and matching ingredients right but lots o'folks love it 'round here!"

Port Aya

"Ohoho, my apologies for the misunderstanding, I wouldn't want to impose." the Matron giggled it off.

Kaori spoke up by tugging at Celina's clothes "I would be thankful if you'd let the Matron come along." She nodded not really smiling but her big eyes certainly did a lot of talking for her.

"Well Kaori, I'm glad you think so much of me to want me to come but it's quite all right if they only want you and your ma. Don't worry yourself about me. Anyway, on that note, fun may not be your objective but they do say something you enjoy means never working. So if you enjoy yourselves, surely you'll have fun."

"I'd be glad to show you anywhere and anything you like." Fumio nodded.

Port Aurora

"W-winter...Yikes!" Kana nearly shivered, despite being in the hot water. "No thanks, I'll take the advice and head up in the summer time, so that'd be well our winter, thus our normal months here. Well, if we go to also pay tribute though, we should be okay skipping a planting season I'd say."

"We can make it work. Thanks for the advice, we'll make sure it's good use. Oh uhhh well about same sex couples....I mean you seem okay with it...But what about where you're from?"

"Good point, I guess if folks aint as friendly as you, we might need to keep the PDAs on the down low."

Clouds really billowed and thickened, any remaining glimmers of sun were gone by now but again people seemed little deterred by it with Kino still being rather packed with visitors just huddling together under umbrellas or oversized palm leaves for shelter. Down the windy, messy, disorganized village eventually he would come across the correct row, it was now the matter of finding the right hut where Suneplena was. Still same place she was early, finished with her quota for the day meant she could just look out for him. Gracia too kept a bit an eye out but she was playing and watching the bullfrogs. Everyone else was inside awaiting the rainfall and enjoying company and whatever food they wanted to eat. When thunder started up "Gracia, come" She called for her daughter whom did listen and ran right up to her side. "Here comes the storm, mama!"

"Yes it's starting up now" She patted her girl's head "I hope he's already made landfall or he's gonna be on the angry sea!"

"I'm sure he has, besides it should be no issue for him just as it was little for us" Another loud crash of thunder made Gracia embrace her mother tighter. Poking out with a lantern in hand was Nigeria again but now dressed, surprisingly in a pink yukata "Oh any sign of him yet?"

"Oh not yet but I still think any moment now. Kino can be pretty confusing for a lot of people. Nigeria, you look cute!"

"Ah thanks, Sunny. I figure he might be a bit put off so I thought I'd dress. I picked this up in Aurora when we visited during last year's festival! Plus you've seen how [ur=https://i.imgur.com/XUBupSa.jpg]Amika[/url] is dressed. I'm sure the Goddesses will understand me being hospitable to our guest."

"That's very sweet of you."

"What are friends for Oh by the way, you sure you don't mind us all hanging around?"

"Are you kidding? You're my good friend, Nigeria, I want him to meet you! And your Fili."

"Awww this is why I love you!" She hugged Sunplena "Oh wait, is that him?" Sunplena could spot a figure making a hasty run up to them

Liam drinks another glass, enjoys the feeling of the moment and continues his story -"Well, I just sold my share of loot and had some nice vacation. Then, I continued to earn money in various ways. Like before. Steady job didn't exactly interest me, so I fixed appliances, cause I was good with tech and tools, did some freelance jobs, I remember how I was in pest control for a few months... Maybe not as spectacular as the battle against terrorists, but still there were hell of a lot of stories. Like, once I just went to remove that wasp nest on a dare, wearing only swim trunks. Got lots of stings and three vodka bottles. Then, got bitten by a big ass 1 kg aggressive rat... Then... there was a basement... so disgusting and full of vermin. After clearing this place out, I left this job. I'll tell ya' mroe if ya' want.

And I told ya', that we, Sky Reavers have a sixth sense, when it comes to booze! We also know, how to drink into super courage but still control ourselves just enough, that we can do various things requiring coordination, or even intellectual approach. We also know the Way of the Ganja. How to channel cannabis effects into something positive. And combine with alcohol. We know special techniques, that let one to trust his instincts and intuition to guide him through the challenges. Be they intellectual or physical. Even through fighting. After some more drinks, I could show ya' some of such techniques... if ya' want. Exclusively peaceful ones of course. I wouldn't like to upset the guests, especially if you have been and are being such a nice host. Just come up with some interesting challenge."

“Oh, yes. That will be all from us thank you”. With their meal done, they headed out of the inn. Al listened to the places that were available for them.

“The village square,” Al starts off “should be a good way to get the common resident as well as the foreign tourist. Plus it allows Yukari to take photos for the newspaper. Perhaps after, we can also go to some of the neighboring villages, where we could get a more of a sense of the impact of tourism. As for demographics, I suppose that young folks, like adults and teens, would bring a great perspective on the festival and their thoughts on everything. If we can, I think we might get a child's perspective of the festival as well. Perhaps we could also head to this temple for Madokamism and perhaps the Kitan public baths”.

Kochi, Hoshino

Nia Gwyalen, of Cefnffordd Descent.
Kochi, Hoshino.

"No, no!", I hurriedly explained, "I'm here with my aunt for a few weeks, we want to go hiking in the area, but today, it's festival time."
I smiled. I was far from being a celebrity (yet), but I knew a few personally. Being the ward of Macha Taise had its perks and having a Dad, who worked for BI, too.
"But if you want to go somewhere... would you mind me tagging along?", I asked, hope evident in my voice.
The question of how it was to live in Launceston or Bodmin was not that pressing on my mind anymore.

Blodwen Canatol, of Cefnffordd Descent.
Kochi, Hoshino.

I looked in quite evident surprise at the woman at the stall.
I had mumbled, in Tafod, the ancient language of the Spiorad, to myelf and to whatever that what I was eating was, and she understood it. Well, this place was full of surprises if this wasn't a fluke she pieced together from context.
So, still speaking Tafod and not English, I asked: "You understand Tafod?"
The melodious, song-like cadance was often confused for Selkie, but it was not, and it was certainly different from English.

Celina Riar of the Tribe of Monaghan.
Port Aya, Hoshino.

I smiled and put a hand on her hat, petting her.
"I am sure, that we can arrange something.", I reassured the girl, then looked to my Mam: "Do you think, that you could convince Milord Aonas to have a guest for a lecture while we have Miss Fumiko and Kaori over?"
"Sure.", Mam agreed with a smile, then explained to the assembly: "Milord Aonas, or rather Arcane Priest Aonas Promhide of the Tribe of Wexford, is the headmaster of the Leuda Secondary Seminary, a priest school, which is attached to our home university." She looked at the Matron. "I am sure, that he would be thrilled to have you give a guest lecture."
I gave Kaori a wink.

Siana Gualla of the Tribe of Cork.
Port Aurora, Aurora.

I nodded.
"I understand, where you are coming from, but don't worry.", I said and smiled, "While it is not my cuppa tea, no Selkie worth that name would take offense to you two being homosexual, or even that you are married. For us, it's a non-issue, who Searc and Cion gave love to, the important part is, that there is mutual love."
I let a beat pass.
"I could list, from the top of my head, half a dozen celebrities or famous people, who are currently alive and either homosexual or bisexual and in a relationship with someone from the same gender.", I added, then shrugged, "My roommate loves reading gossip rags."
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.
