We also have a newswire (linked in OP), as well as threads where you can exchange entertainment and sporting TV programmes with other broadcasters.

Oh you guys do sporting events too, for some reason? That sounds interesting, I may have an idea or two for both sports and entertainment. You guys up for a dancing competition?

Possibly! Feel free to join us and pitch your idea, the link to our server is in the OP in case you wanted to gauge interest more quickly.

IBA Council By-Elections

Thank you to Achaean Republic and Malta Comino Gozo for your time on the IBA Council, particularly for your contribution in laying the groundwork for the cultural wing of the IBA.

Moving forward, they are leaving their seats vacant in hopes that another member of the community will be able to fulfill the duties and responsibilities associated with being a member of the IBA Council.

This is where YOU come in—if you think you have what it takes to put on their shoes, feel free to declare your interest in being added to the ballot by replying to this thread. Manifesto not necessary (maybe write a sentence or two if you want, but no need to go overboard). It is not guaranteed that you will be working on Arts & Culture, by the way. The seat is for general membership of the Council and we'll work with you to find a way to maximize your strengths and skills in your contribution.

You will be able to hold this seat at least until the end of the year when we will likely have elections—more info on that soon.

IBA Theme Music: Open Call

Also, wouldn't it be cool if we had our own theme music like the EBU does with Charpentier's Te Deum Prelude? We are open to suggestions!

Feel free to post your nominations by replying to this thread. Link the piece if you can, and feel free to nominate a few different tunes. There is no eligibility criteria being imposed*.

We are open to all sorts of ideas—if, say, you wanted to compose/produce your own piece to nominate for the theme music, feel free to let us know! We want the best possible option available and if you communicate with us accordingly we will be happy to make the appropriate arrangements. We'd like to see the nominations first so we can determine a proper method to select the winner based on the available entries.

We will be accepting nominations until Friday, September 3rd. Only the users listed below are eligible to participate. We look forward to your ideas and nominations!

*in my (Kalosia) personal opinion, it would be nice to have it be an instrumental piece that's versatile (i.e. there are multiple versions/renditions available to fit with the different production styles of the various IBA programmes). However this is just my personal opinion and not at all a requirement; as mentioned we are open to all sorts of ideas.

I'd like to self-nominate myself for a seat. I believe I was heavily involved with the making of the Arts & Culture Thread and since the Overseer seat is heading to Norm in a couple of weeks, I'd like to continue the work done so far in the IBA.

And that is exactly what I'll do.

Hi, I'm Carrelie. Moderate-soft hitter at the Worldvision Song Contest, 30-somethingth person to sign up to the IBA, self-proclaimed chief of having too many accents in words.

So, why should I be elected? There's a few reasons: I'm extremely active, I'm a great team player, and I'd like to imagine that I'd be a helpful face to those in need of support around the IBA. I won't propose anything too ground-breaking, as I'd probably only have 6 months in office and the IBA has only existed for 8 months, though I will make sure everything keeps running smoothly and steadily and at a nice pace.

I wish all the other candidates luck in these by-elections!

I would like to nominate a piece of classical composition that, in my eyes, would make a great theme tune for the IBA:

So, why would it be a nice theme song? Well, it's a timeless piece of music that fits for various different occasions. It has a simple but majestic hook to it that is easily recognizable and sounds very epic. The tune would be a great opener for anything from a sports event to a musical awards gala. Also, if it feels like the original composition just doesn't cut it for a specific programming, there are various renditions of it available. For example, the 4th movement (which is undeniably the most iconic part of the tune) can be constantly repeated and has different variations in itself that can fit for different situations. In addition, there are various renditions available, such as an EDM remix which adds a nice upbeat hook to it, or another more subtle version that takes a similar approach. There is also a hip-hop style rendition and even a metal version, all of which could be used if the broadcasters are looking to give a somewhat more contemporary feel to the tune, for whatever reason.

It would be very cool. I do see your Symphony No. 9 Togo, but I simply must raise you

Gustav Holst's Jupiter

An absolute classic, I believe Jupiter, part of Gustav Holst's 'The Planets' suite would be an amazing pick for the IBA theme tune. Over the years it has been reimagined countless times, from more contemporary to even more epic, proving its versatility. Of course, the IBA would not have to use the entire thing, perhaps just a short snippet.

If you're looking for something more simple, please consider

Debussy's Arabesque No. 1

It's a truly wonderful composition which could make a lovely theme tune, and that is all I have to say.

I do hope that you consider my tunes, thank you all for your time!

I would like to nominated two different tunes from two different composers as prospects for becoming the new IBA theme tune:

An adaptable, melodic piece with a spectrum of possible uses. Fairly short, for a classical piece, at only 2:21 (minutes, not hours) yet it still includes 2 distinct parts and various melodies within it's runtime. It's use as the F1 podium theme and in the horror game Five Night's At Freddy's display it's versatility. The piece is also paired with another Bizet work, Votre toast, je peux vous le rendre, commonly known as Toreador Song, which has both solo and choir vocal sections, adding more so to the pieces versatility in how it can be used. For example, I personally feel like the section following the 1:06 timestamp in the instrument version would make a good, short pre-show ident theme.

An extremely iconic and recognisable piece. At 7 minutes, it is a fair bit longer than my other choice, however it does not go into the realm of excess like some classical pieces. It's full run time could easily make for some lovely live performances at events while it's recognisable melodies are easily fitting for use in idents, openings and soundtracks. Another advantage of it's somewhat longer runtime is that it progresses over various moods, tempos and dynamics so can be used for various genres of content without feeling too out of place. Similarly, while calmer than some of Tchaikovsky's more bombastic pieces, it progressively builds to a rather grandiose ending fitting for an epic theme of an international union, without being too over the top or imposing. Personally, I think it strikes a good balance for runtime and variation.
GENERATION 33: The first time you see this, copy it into your signature on any forum and add 1 to the generation.

WV21 - Savnic - The Japanese Girl - 22nd - 25 points,
WV31 - Kaylileenástkadeenada Ñadiakimadoradaþínkaðerren - You Can't Make Me Cry - 16th - 37 points,
WV32 - Tuo Su and Yao Su - Internal Fire - 19th - 42 Points,

My nomination is Morgenstemning (Morning Mood) from the Peer Gynt Suite by Edvard Grieg.

It was the first piece of music to be sampled in Eurovision history, and was done so in a way that evoked the feel of the break of morning. This atmosphere was what sold the song to me; as the IBA is a fledgling organization (relatively speaking), this piece symbolizes the dawn of a new age and the promise of what the future holds for us.

Here's a few different renditions I found:
Orchestral (above)
Piano
Rock
New Age
Cinematic
Easy Listening

...and who knows what other versions exist out there!
As an ident, I think the opening bars of the piece, which are repeated throughout it, would be great.

IBA Theme Music voting

Thank you to everyone who has submitted theme music nominations! And thank you, fellow IBA member nations, for your patience.

We have received 6 submissions, and it is now time to open the first round of voting. To vote, simply state your top 3 on the ballot below. All 6 nominations will be available in the link below as well, however feel free to scroll up to see the original posts.

As a reminder, the theme music will be a defining marker of broadcasts on the IBA network. This also means the ident will be played at the beginning and end of IBA broadcasts (like broadcasts on the EBU's Eurovision TV network). The chosen song will be elected permanently, similar to the logo, and as opposed to the IBA headquarters and council which are elected on a one-year term.

If your name is listed below, you are invited to vote by filling the ballot linked further below. Voting instructions are listed on the form. The deadline to vote is Sunday, September 26 at 9am BST.
