RP 20th Century
Introduction
RP 20th Century is an alternate-Earth Roleplay set in the 20th Century. The roleplaying group is a closed RP so only members of the group can take part in the RP. Events outside of the group do not have any effect on events or history inside the group.
As the name suggests RP 20th Century uses the technologies and populations of the time and with a start date of 1907 for the RP, only technologies and populations for this time period are allowed. In regards to populations for example, if you were to claim the Philippines your population can be no more than the population of the Philippines in 1907, a handy link for the populations during this time is provided below.

As stated above the starting date for this RP is 1907 and for the moment, the RP will advance in real-time with jumps of a few weeks allowed in individual roleplays to keep stories flowing. At some point, after discussion with the hopefully larger membership, a more condensed timeline will be adopted with 3 Real-Life Months equating to a Full Year in the RP to allow for advances of history and technology in the RP within our life time. Any announcement on developments like this will made in a full post announcing such changes and subject to a vote.
Any and all kinds of RP are welcome in RP 20th Century be they about conquests and Empire Building, war with other nations, espionage, adventures, romantic plots or just the day to day life of a particular character you want to build on. We aim to be a RP group with high quality writing and whilst we do not wish to dictate what is and what isn't good enough, please be aware that we do expect maximum effort. Posts of a few lines will not be looked on favorably.
Obviously as this RP Group is hosted on the NS website, RP rules for NS also apply here so we must do our best to abide by them. A ruling from an NS Moderator supersedes the rulings of a RP 20th Century Moderator.
Membership
Membership to RP 20th Century is open to anyone and everyone on NationStates and prospective members are encouraged to register their interest in joining RP 20th Century by joining the Discord server found at the bottom on this post. Below are some rules and guidelines on membership:
• Membership Types: There are two types of membership in RP 20th Century; Full Member and New Member.
• Full Member: A Full Member is someone who has joined the RP 20th Century by completing an introductory thread. As a Full Member you can make additional claims past your first initial claim and begin to establish yourself in the history of RP 20th Century.
• New Member: A New Member is someone who has successfully applied to RP 20th Century and is in the process of completing an introductory thread to complete their initial claim and become a full member. A New Member cannot made any additional claims until their introductory thread is completed to an appropriate standard.
• Membership Rules
• Only one NS account per member is allowed.
• To be a member of RP 20th Century you must have an active account. If your NS account is deleted for any reason, you are given a seven day grace period to re-activate your account before you are officially removed for the group.
• As a member of RP 20th Century you are actively required to make a contribution to the continuing RP. Therefore if you are inactive for longer than 60 days [roughly two months] your membership will be terminated. There is of course allowance for special circumstances and RP 20th Century will operate a 60 Day Vacation Mode that can be activated by any and all members through TG to the OP Account. You cannot take another 60 Day Vacation Mode once the first has expired, there must be a 60 day period before another can be taken. Extension of this Vacation Mode will be looked at on a case-by-case basis.
Claims
Claiming land is a pretty big part of RP 20th Century [that’s kind of what they did back then!] and therefore there are a couple of rules when it comes to claiming land.
• Types of Claim: There are three types of claim; Established, Pending and Contested.
• Established: An established claim is a completed claim. Completing a claim is done upon the satisfactory completion of a thread, be it your initial claim or a further expansion you have made upon becoming a full member. Only Established Claims are present on the RP 20th Century Map.
• Pending: Pending Claims are split into two further subclasses; Initial & Expansion. They carry with them different size allowances for claiming land as per below.
• Initial Claim: Your initial claim is the claim you made in your original application thread. This is the claim you make to become a New Member and upon completion of your thread you become a Full Member. An Initial Claim is limited to being able to claim 4,000,000 km² of unclaimed land.
• Expansion Claim: An expansion claim is a claim that is available to Full Members to expand upon their initial claim and claim more land.
• Contested: A Contested Claim arises when two members claim the same piece of territory. This will usually happen after a member has made a claim and a second member announces they will contest this claim. All Contested Claims are to be roleplayed like any other claim in their own thread and resolved either militarily or diplomatically depending on the direction of the RP.
Applications and Threads
RP 20th Century is as the name suggests a roleplaying thread and therefore any IC actions must be roleplayed out in a separate thread.
• All news threads set in RP 20th Century should be announced in the OOC thread, posted with a link, so that all members are aware. A template for new threads can be found in the posts below.
• All threads set in RP 20th Century should be marked with the following in the thread title so that it can be easily spotted by other members and is also a bit of shameless advertising - [RP 20th Century]
• In the posts below you will find the blank templates you will need to fill out when making both your initial claim to join RP 20th Century and also for any further claims you wish to make as a member. It is important to read through the application thoroughly and fill out all the information that is being asked about your roleplaying nation.
• All applications when completed MUST be TG'd to the -RP 20th Century- account for approval. Once they are approved over TG the application can be posted in this thread where a public approval will be given. This is done so that any questions and improvements to the application can be done out of public view and not clutter the main thread. Only once a public approval is given can the pending claim be acted upon with a new thread.
History
• For the most part, the History of RP 20th Century does not equal the history of real life Earth with two exceptions. Both the 'Fall of the Roman Empire' and the 'Colonisation of the New World' by a nation from the Iberian Peninsula are deemed to have happened in RP 20th Century.
• An official history for RP 20th Century will be worked on when membership levels increase. This will allow for a concrete series of events players can build for their nations and also new members can draw inspiration from when creating their new nations.
General Rules
• All members of the RP 20th Century group should act respectfully to one another and in a professional manner. Any disputes either for IC or OOC reasons should be resolved constructively and abuse of any kind will not be tolerated. Disputes should be made over TG and not in the main thread.
• For IC roleplays and engagements there is to be no god-modding, wanking or firing of the ignore-cannon, etc. Any action that is deemed legitimate cannot be ignored and must be responded to. If it is felt as if a player takes action to circumvent another legitimate action, such as entering vacation mode, then the necessary action will be taken.
• The language of RP 20th Century is English and therefore all OOC and IC posts must be presented in the English language. Dialogue can be posted in the native tongue of the nation you are roleplaying but a translation must also be provided in the post.
