Seventh Annual AVBF Sevens Tournament (2021 Edition)
Hello and welcome to the OOC/Signup thread for the Seventh Annual AVBF 7s tournament. This is an NSRB sanctioned event, and part of the NSRB Sevens Series Tour. Therefore, how well you do in this tournament will affect your ranking in future events of this rugby sevens series. The aim for the series event is to provide a fun, challenging and interesting prelude to the next Rugby Sevens World Cup and kick off the next NSRB Rugby 7s Series cycle. For those of you not familiar with rugby sevens, here's a link to more information.
What the heck is the AVBF?
The AVBF is the Alpen View Brew Festival, an annual festival that invites brewers and distillers to compete for top honors for their submitted beverages. It has been held for 9 consecutive years, since 2012. Each edition is held in Burgunden, Canton of Zurich, Neu Engollon.
The Festival celebrates Neu Engollian culture, but specifically brew culture, in the Confederacy, as well as being one outrageous party over a long weekend. As well as brewers and distillers offering their award winning crafted brews and liquors through tents on the grounds and having them judged; food vendors are also serving their gourmet dishes; entertainers, deejays and musicians perform on stages, and other events (besides rugby) occur on the adjoining exhibition grounds such as performance art or interactive travel displays. This year will be the seventh time that rugby sevens has been combined with the festival.
Participation
Any and all nations are welcome to sign up and participate in the AVBF Sevens Tournament. Signups will likely be capped at an even number of nations in the range of 24-40, depending on how much interest this tournament gets. A cut off will tentatively be on 3 October with at least 24 signed up, or a higher even number by the deadline will close out the sign ups. Should we not reach 24 players signed up, or an even number beyond that, the deadline will be extended until our target number is reached. The last puppet account signed up may be cut to reach this target even number. As with all NSS tournaments, puppets must be declared and only two accounts total may be entered by any one player. Puppets suspected of a player already fielding two nations will be subject to a GHR submitted to moderation.
Previous ranked NSRB nations are encouraged to get in before the cut off. For those that have yet to participate in a NSRB sanctioned sevens tournament, welcome to the start of your journey and we look forward to your RP. If you stick with it and RP, you have a great chance of overturning some of the higher ranked nations and climbing to the top. The format of groups is TBD based on the numbers signed up.
Scoring, Rank, and Tentative Schedule
This event will be hosted using the rugby union sevens function of xkoranate 0.3.3. Those that participated and earned rank in previous NSRB Sevens tournaments such as the past editions of the AVBF and URSA Tournaments, as well as the Sevens World Cup, and sign up for this event will see their previous rank carry over and be counted towards this event. As well, rank from this tournament will count towards future NSRB sanctioned 7s tournaments.
If you feel that something wasn’t scored or formatted correctly, please be respectful in pointing it out and I will look into it immediately when I can get back on NS. Cup, Plate and Bowl fixtures I will seek out third party scorers for my matches, should my nations even make it that far.
I will be scoring every other RL day, (except for a couple back to back days on weekends, please take note of the schedule when posted) which will allow for plenty of RP time. Obviously, the IC time will still be very quick 15 min. matches over three days span. I want to give people plenty of time to RP, as I know there are lots of other NS tournaments occurring concurrently.
2021 NSRB 7's Rankings
AVBF R7's # 6 Everything Thread (Most recent past edition for reference)
RP
Aside from previous earned rank, RP will be your other main form of gaining skill points for your team. Quality over quantity is preferred. Posting a roster will be rewarded with points as well and is encouraged for the benefit of your fellow players. RP can be posted to the AVBF 7’s Everything Thread when it appears.
With discussion with some of the NSRB Executive Council, I have decided to very generously award RP this edition to compensate for high rank bonus, as that has been a heated topic in the past. The reason for this is to encourage RP, of course, but also to not discourage newer and lower ranked players by continuing an insurmountable gap between them and the top R7 player ranks. That being said, RP bonus will be fair and generous for all who put in effort, no matter their rank.
Like the previous few years, there is no longer an actual Alpen View Brew Festival social character thread. I decided to retire that hosting component as it's a lot of work with diminishing participation over the years. However, if you would like to RP your players at the festival grounds and enjoying the events, feel free to do so. If you have any questions about how to RP this brew festival, TG me, the host.
IC SPONSORS
If you would like to sign on as a sponsor, contact me. I will need a corporate logo of your IC sponsor. If you want to RP that your brewer, distiller or food vendor is participating in the Festival, also please contact me. I’ll be happy to include you, but we’ll need to have it fit a certain format. You do not need to participate in the rugby 7’s tournament to sign on as a sponsor, food or beverage vendor, or brew competitor.
THE HOST
Consider this post a signup for Neu Engollon. Please direct any and all specific questions about hosting mechanics to me and I will answer them as I am able. If you have a personal issue of trust with me, it may be best that you just don’t join the competition rather than jam up the thread with your personal issues. If you can get over that, I promise to be fair and objective and follow the format I always have for the last six years running, other than how RP bonus will be dispensed, as mentioned above.

* Please note that Neu Engollon and Copper Cuprum were switched in the Group draw in order that Abanhfleft not be forced to play their own puppet. Due to an error in missing Baker Park's rank, the pots and groups were redrawn to correct the error, but still switching Copper Cuprum and Neu Engollon. My apologies, especially to Baker Park. Thankfully, the Everything thread isn't up yet, so hopefully it didn't affect too many of you.
