A BRIEF INTRODUCTION:
Following the unification of the seven kingdoms, dating back to 1786, HoopoeBall was recognized as the Talamian national sport. It was therefore necessary to wait more than a century before football began to gain popularity. The first official document attesting a football match in Talamia dates back to 1890. Five years later, eight founding teams from all over Talamia created the Talamian Alfa League, which is still the top level of the Talamian football league system today.

The first ten years of Talamian football, not yet very popular at the time, saw only clubs as protagonists. In 1906, however, the seven regions of Talamia began to agree to organize an interregional internal tournament and establish their selections of best players. The Seven Kingdoms Tournament was born. It was held for nine editions, until 1914. The tournament was played with a double round-robin system. The teams played during breaks from the Talamia Alfa League, in summer and winter. The regional selection of Mentrenalio won five editions, Pento two and Uperinde and Epicesi one each. The tournament ceased to exist when TSS decided to found a single national representative.

The first game played by the national team dates back to 30 November 1914, when the sports federations of Talamia and Sörslúth decided to organize a friendly between the selections of the best players of the top leagues of the two nations, to encourage the quiet of a seething political climate. Played in the Ebdemar Au'tokra Stadium of Clinepalas, the game gathered twenty thousand spectators and saw the Talamian national team triumph 6-2. The very first goal scored by the national team of Talamia was by Uptele Trakute, Ptoco's forward. At the behest of the tyrant of Sörslúth, who could not accept the defeat, the game was repeated a month later in the stadium of Eigobair, the capital of the fascist state. Talamia managed again to win 3-0. This prompted Talamia Sports' Summaka to invest in the national team, organizing a first friendly calendar. Epitede Arkha, then coach of Lampride, was appointed manager.

national team in 1979, wearing the traditional away kit.

Following the wave of club football, the national team stopped playing in 1966, after the failure of the Alfa League, to resume playing in 1974, thanks to Noto Plousi, owner of Fortis Epops, four years after the rebirth of the top league of Talamian football. The team began gaining popularity thanks to players of the caliber of Ensem Eio and Sanisla Pedalisismi, who is still today the top scorer.

After more than a century of international football played only on a friendly level, TSS decided to appoint Pedalisismi as manager in 2019, on the occasion of the team's first historic registration to an official tournament: 2019 ILFA. After weeks of hard preparation, the team was defeated in the qualification round, by an overall result of 4-3 against Lo Santano.

Despite the negative performance, this prompted TSS to include the team in the first edition of the NSLeft Association Football Tournament (NAFT). With no need for a qualifying match, Talamia advanced directly to the final stage, drawn in group D with the Democratic Republic of Cacusia, Maoux and Mon Silanies. Following this first experience, Talamia became one of the founding members of NSLeft Association Football Federation (NAFF). However, after winning all the group stage matches and the quarter-finals, the tournament stopped and the NAFF was dismantled. The Talamian national team found itself once again without official competitions in which to play.

On May 10 2020, it was announced that Talamia would take part to the eighty-fifth edition of the World Cup, being admitted to the qualifications after being accepted among the 197 participating teams. On the way to the World Cup, in its first pre-tournament friendly, Talamia defeated The Jovannic 2-1. Despite this being their first participation in the tournament, the Hoopoes made a great performance, placing fifth in a group that included 13 teams. Collecting 37 points, the team bravely faced the longest qualifiers in the World Cup history. After the excellent performance, Talamia entered the seventy-seventh Cup of Harmony, without being able to go beyond the group stage. With four points won, the Hoopoes at their first participation, however, managed to beat the historic national team of Chromatika.

In February 2021, TSS officially founded the DSA Football Federation, promoting the development of interest in football on the planet Delusia. Talamia hosted the first edition of the DSAFF Comrades Cup. The Hoopoes also entered for the second time in their history in the World Cup qualifiers, for the 88th edition. Despite the two hundred twenty-first position in the world ranking, the coach Sanisla Pedalisismi was asked to reach the play-offs to access the World Cup, and at the same time to overcome the group stage of the Comrades Cup. Talamia managed to go beyond all expectations and after winning group A in the first DSAFF tournament, finished third in group 10 of the World Cup qualifiers. The lack of access to the play-offs and the defeat against Arklanda in the quarter-finals, however, convinced the now 75-year-old Sanisla Pedalisismi to resign from the position of coach. At the same time, Ansem Egemon - record holder of appearances and unmovable captain - at 38 announced his retirement from the national team.

With the end of an era, a new one began: Ensem Eio, fresh winner of the Alfa League with his club Alla Fofokoy, was named the new manager, while defender Timo Fulatto was named the new captain.

KITS:
Talamia's traditional home colours are red and black shirts, red or black shorts and white or black socks, incorporating all colours of the Talamian flag. The very first kit worn by Talamia national team in its debut match against Sörslúth was all-red. Therefore, over the years the team has re-proposed the historic design, wearing similar all-red jerseys. The national team wore white shorts only on the outfit used between 1977 and 1978. The uniform was so unpopular that it was replaced after just one season.

Even though Talamia's first away kits were total black, starting in 1974 - the year of the resumption of Talamian football - TSS decided that the team would wear simple white shirts in away matches, in order to cushion travel costs. From necessity, tradition was born and still today Talamia's traditional away colours are white shirts and shorts and black socks.

Talamia's third kit has always coincided with the goalkeeper's first kit, which colours are green shirts, shorts and socks - recalling the laurel on the national flag.

The badge of the Talamia national football team has a laurel crown, a symbol of peace introduced on the national flag in 1786, incorporating the letters "TFF" in its center. It was briefly replaced in the 90's by hoopoe's feathers, and restored in the 2000's.

In April 2021, after having firmly entered the professional football arena, the national team decided to forge a relationship with the technical sponsor Tahuatxi, from the nation of Txakhaxi. The agreement provides for a complete restyling of the national team badge and jerseys. The new uniforms and new jerseys made their debut in the eighty-eighth World Cup and in the inaugural edition of the Comrades Cup. Tahuatxi has completely modernized the badge, introducing the red and black colors typical of the national team and the image of a hoopoe, to recall its nickname. The new jerseys do not deviate much from tradition. The away shirt has a small novelty: a stylized red hoopoe on the left side. For the first time, however, a third shirt is designed, completely orange and with references to the plumage of the hoopoe.

STARTING XI:
Image

#1 Aha Diapeir
198cm tall, Aha Diapeir arrived at his current club in Ardelark, F.C Kasgard in the last transfermarkt session. He was Fortis Epops' first choice goalkeeper from 2013 to 2021, winning the Alfa League four times. Solid goalkeeper, very safe between the posts, the exits are his weakness.

#4 Neodom Zekeleos
Zekeleos is an example of how tenacity can pay off. Just like it is for many others in this renewed team, this will be Neodom's first experience with the Hoopoes. Right back of substance and experience, he is very strong physically. Tireless, he can be found anywhere on the pitch over the course of the ninety minutes. He may not be the most technical player but he is certainly the one with the most heart.

#5 Yante Skatezzo
Skatezzo can be considered the pupil of Fulatto, his ward companion. Born and raised in Fofokoy, he made the whole process of the youth team to land on the first team six years ago. Fresh from the Alfa League victory, he managed not to get a yellow card over the entire past season.

#13 Timo Fulatto (C)
Timo Fulatto is the most experienced defensive center in the whole national team. Next to 80 presence with the team, he is the mentor of his partner Skatezzo. He is a pure defensive wall with height, agility and great skill in head shots. He won the last season of the Alfa League as the captain of Alla Fofokoy and became the national team's captain after Ansem Egemon retired.

#6 Calin Mestithemi
Calin made his first appearence in the national team during the 85th World Cup. He scored his first goal during the 2020 NAFT. He was a nobody back then. Sanisla Pedalisismi believed in him and today he can be considered one of the best left back on planet Delusia. He plays for Clinepalas United and with his club he won the Alfa League three times.

Image
Timo Fulatto celebrates Alla Fofokoy's 12th Alfa League title, in 2020.

#8 Arees Sus
The midfielder born in Epacra will have to bear a heavy weight on his shoulders: Sus has in fact decided to inherit the number 8 jersey of former captain Ansem Egemon. He also left the club that made him famous, Epacra Delphis, to join the rich KarpìStomà, owned by the billionaire Tape Amilla. Low and agile, Sus is a midfielder with good feet, capable of setting up and orchestrating offensive maneuvers. A real midfield director. His specialties are long passes and through balls, with which he manages to unmark the attacking midfielders.

#17 Asulon Stemma Artemis
Artemis was nominated for the best left-back award in the 2021 DSAFF Comrades Cup, not by winning but by being among the substitutes for the final All-Star team. A flexible player, he can run on both flanks, both in midfield and in defense. Young and with great room for growth, in the summer he was requested by several clubs but KarpìStomà refused all offers.

#20 Upe Bainika
Left and right wing, enviable technique. Bainika runs the entire band, from defense to attack. He was the pillar and captain of his former team, Epacra Delphis, of which he was also the top goalscorer. He was the undisputed star of the club's last two championship wins, in 2010 and 2013. He left Epacra Delphis this past summer, to join Holmgaror City, in New Ordiel Kalibleland.

#10 Kata Dioiiké
Number 10 and captain of the past season's Alfa League winners Fortis Epops, number 10 of his national team, there is nothing Kata Dioiiké can't do. He is the most technical and skilled player of the team.

#18 Lignus Fonè
Lignus Fonè won the ranking of the best scorers of the last season of the Alfa League, scoring twenty-five goals in twenty-six games. Fixed point of Hellas Anen's attack, he managed to steal the starting place from Stern A'apt in the national team during Sanisla Pedalisismi's latest adventure on the bench. Fonè is a forward with an imposing physique and gifted with great header skills. The nose for a goal is his best weapon.

#9 Stern A'apt
Robust forward, skilled in the header and playing as a point of reference for the advanced midfield line, he is able to play shoulders behind the net to allow the wings to penetrate the opposing defense. Fifth in the all-time list, he scored two goals in today's friendly match against The Jovannic, reaching 29 goals in total.

Son of a poor family of workers from Stamexo, our favorite striker grew up right on the border with Sorsluth and took his first football steps in the hometown team. He made his debut in the Beta League at the age of 19 but we would have said everything at the time except that he would become the first choice for the National Team's attack in the starting lineup. Slightly overweight, he seemed to have only the commitment on his side. But it wasn't enough.

After two seasons in which he had collected more appearances in the stands than anything else, one day everything changed: it was 2013 and Stern had the opportunity to play in a championship game, due to the injury of the two main forwards. The team was doing badly, being close to the relegation zone. However, A'apt discovered how dangerous it could be on high balls. A hat trick. All goals on header. Stern became the hero of the day and the championship, dragging Stamexo to their first second place in the Beta League. The team then lost the playoffs but that was only the beginning for Stern. Purchased by Afestosja the following summer, he managed to drag an excellent team to an equally excellent second place in the Alfa League. Then came the first call-up to the national team, the first international goal. The teams were starting to get used to his way of playing, no longer the other way around.

Then, something changed last year, when A'apt, now a darling of Afestosja, decided to accept the large sum of money that the billionaire Amilla's team, KarpìStomà, offered to move to them. Some say that his poor young football-loving spirit has vanished forever. Yet the great commitment shown once again on the field led him to drag KarpìStomà to fourth place. Could this be an opportunity to show everyone once again that they are wrong?

COACH:
Ensem Eio, native of Fofokoy, played his entire career in the team of his hometown, becoming a record holder and imposing himself as the best scorer in the history of the Alfa League. To date, his record has not yet been equaled. In nineteen years of career, he managed to score 212 goals. Eio is one of the players-symbol of the rebirth of Talamian football after the great crisis of the 1960s. His success also extended beyond his playing career. In the eighties he became the youngest coach in the history of the Alfa League, coaching Alla Fofokoy. In those years he managed to win the Alfa League three times. For a quarrel with the management, he left the bench of the Arceri in 1990, returning ten years later. He was coach of Alla Fofokoy for another twenty years, winning three more titles, basing his strategy completely on defense and giving life to the fearsome "FAS", the three-way defensive line starring Eletheu Atele (current team captain), Timo Fulatto and Yante Skatezzo.

Active with the national team from 1966 to 1981, he counts 110 caps and 17 goals for The Hoopoes. Appointed manager in 2021, this is his first run as the Hoopoes' coach.

HOME STADIUM:
Talamia's capital Clinepalas counts 10,029,416 inhabitants and it's the largest city in the country. Located on the mouth of the Drahma River, it overlooks the Herrebrugh Sea. Being the oldest city, it is also the one with the largest number of places of interest and monuments. The national body responsible for managing the Talamian cultural heritage is ko.de.pa.so., and among others, one of the places it controls is the Ebdemar Au'tkora Stadium.

Initially built for HoopoeBall, the Ebdemar Au'tokra Stadium has always been the home of our National Football Team, since its founding. Talamia played their first match at the stadium on November 30 1914 against Sörslúth, winning 6-2. The stadium has undergone many renovations over time, before being permanently closed and then demolished in 2015, in its hundredth birthday. For a period of three years, the team played their home games in various stadiums around Talamia as the Ebdemar Au'tokra was beaing completely rebuilt. The first match played in the new stadium that just reopened took place on 22 April 2018 and it was once again against Sörslúth. The stadium is today owned by the city of Clinepalas, being considered cultural heritage.

Today, the all-seater stadium has a capacity of 84,000, and it is protected from the elements by a sliding roof that does not completely enclose it. It also has a heated ground, four LED screens and an internal restaurant, called "ArgaleOpson". Located in the central Etairo Park of Talamia’s most important and big city, it is easily reachable by bus, underground (Stadion stop) and car. Equipped with ample outdoor parking, it is just twenty minutes from the mouth of the Drahma River and the port of Clinepalas. Stop at the typical street food kiosks inside the park before reaching the stadium to enjoy some typical Anthrax pancakes.

Their participation in World Cup Cycle started at Baptism of Fire 76 where they ended in the Group Stage. They were participated in three World Cup Qualification with the latest edition become their most successful campaign.

History

Pemecutan national football team can not be separated from the establishment of the association itself, Pemecutan Football Association or (PFA). Established in 1969, PFA was a result or merging two football associations which was build up the country, Pemecutan. They are Giri Football Association (GFA) and Kanginan Association of Football (KAF). But the official of this new association was deemed unfair. From the beginning of its merging, Kanginan clubs and players were left behind. This was strengthen by the statement made by the then President of PFA which said Kanginan clubs and players being inferior than that of Giri and also PFA was only recognized the former GFA sanctioned competition as the main domestic league of Pemecutan at the time.

As the association was focusing on rebuilding their domestic features at that time, then the international competition and matches was never been held. In 1978, PFA was scheduling an international friendly matches against several countries, Soracana Islands, Tandeg Suci and Cakranegara. But all of the matches were canceled for various reasons. The officials then back to focusing on its domestic situation especially after 1982 Football Riot. The accident happen during Inter Nusa Cup, between Pesub Ubung, the champion of PFA Eka League at the time and Parsewi Mengwi, the champion of Surya Utama League at the time which was won by Parsewi Mengwi. For not being able to admit the loss, Pesub Ubung fans raging a riot throughout the city of Ubung making the city transportation system collapsed. The situation also makes Kanginan clubs become more alienated by the Giri Island clubs. The second big riot happens in 1996 in Canggu, after Parsenggu Canggu defeats Pescam Campuhan in Inter Nusa Cup which resulted in the discontinued of Inter Nusa Cup.

The situation between these two regions become less severe in early 2000, as more matches were held between clubs from Giri and Kanginan. In 2003, a local competition named Puri Cup was established which competed between states. The competition was short life. The national team was established for the first time in 2019 ahead of the country's entry into 3rd Melayu Archipelago Cup where they were surprisingly finished as 4th placer. The country then focusing to build up its regional image and they success to do that after repeatedly reached semifinal. But their lack of luck to advance beyond semifinal makes them being dubbed as the Pemecutan Cursed. Their first international entry was at 48th Di Bradini Cup where the country tested their U-21 team for the first time. Unfortunately, they were ended up in the Group Stage. The senior team then entered in 73rd Baptism of Fire where they were also ended in Group Stage. They were continue their campaign to 86th World Cup. In their first World Cup Qualifying, they were being smashed. They were only won 2 matches and ended at the bottom of their Group.

On their next World Cup campaign, they were getting better and better. And their latest entry at 88th World Cup, placed them at 4th in the qualifying Group with 10 wins. In the regional stage, their luck is not getting better. They were success to reached final in 2 occasion but they were always failed to lifted the trophy.

The previous team jersey
The national team kit design has only change once. In their first international appearance, the team using black as the kit based color. This jersey was made by a local apparel company, Gringsing. The color use for the kit is inspired by Tridatu color, which is the national color of Pemecutan. It is believe that the color can give luck and protection for the user. After being stuck as semifinalist in regional competition, they decided to change the kit as a refreshment.

Agung&Arya Fashion was contacted by PFA officials to design the new kit for the national team. It is a huge challenge for the fashion house as they are never involve in sportswear before. The design they come up with is a simple black-white vertical stripes with white as the background color. They are also introducing the second jersey which use red as the basic color in also another stripes design. The third design that they made are for the goalkeeper. This time they use the combination of red and black.

The Jovannic National Team Roster for World Cup 89!!!

Jerseys GEN 2.0
Home and Away
ImageImage

Yes it's basically the same as most rosters I've posted but I'm lazy, m'kay? Lol.

Goalkeepers
#23 Mavin Tsuniki, 36, Nationale Jovannica, 20 Caps
#1 Joshua Li, 27, Marli Town, 10 Caps
#24 Seintat Fele, 20, Varla Crlak United, 6 Caps
Joshua Li is the Sliver Lining for Marli Town amid a struggling season. He is a superb sweeper keeper and inhuman reflexes. This is his first season as first choice keeper for the national team. Mavin was first choice keeper for 6 years before he had injury problems. He should be able to play a few matches at the world cup as he has gone back to fitness. Seintat is a homegrown talent who is in the team for first hand experience. We have kept the smae lineups.

Defenders
#12 Kish Dasny, 29, Nationale Jovannica, 17 Caps, 1 Goal
#3 Raye Eng, 28, Chan City, 29 Caps, 2 Goals
#4 Kallin Yustat, 30, Chan City, 27 Caps, 1 Goal
#14 Nivario Wesh, 24, Nationale Jovannica, 18 Caps, 5 Goals

#2 Korion Messitawa, 24, Duckingham Town, 0 caps, 0 goals
#13 Huhigal Silgersti, 32, West Juxe United, 24 Caps, 0 Goals
#5 Twatter Harring, 22, Sylestone, 0 Caps, 0 goals
#15 Io Castra, 22, New Hope City, 6 Cap, 0 Goals
Maruo is a veteran defender with a towering presence. He is able to fight for a tackle and can push up when needed. Raye is the Star defender of the Jovannic, His plays and passes has set up many a goal.He is also aggressive and can score goals Kallin is the perfect combination with Raye, Himself being a strong and able defender, with fans calling him 'The Wall'. Tong Fao is a more supportive defender, always ready to intercept loose balls. Kish is a solid defender with a steadfast mentality and good tackling abilities. Huhigal is a old starter whom had a bad season with West Juxe United. He is still strong and able to do well. Nivario is a Great Talent who has played extremely well with Nationale Jovannica. Io is a underrated defender who can speed down the wing threatening defenders of the other side. Changes include fiesty defender Korion after Maruo's retirement and Twatter Harring replacing Tong Fao due to his superb performances in Sylestone.

Midfielders
#17 Stockain Lelop, 28, Masting United, 16 Caps, 12 Goals
#8 Jin Tze, 30, Chumitan United, 24 Caps, 7 Goals (VICE-CAPTAIN)

#7 Viszier Felon, 25, Nationale Jovannica, 6 Caps, 1 Goal
#16 Luo Xiang Mao, 29, Varla Crlak United, 0 caps, 0 goals
#6 Gavon Simoli, 26, New Hope City, 11 Caps, 5 Goals
#18 Huli Maringar, 19, Varla Crlak United, 7 Caps, 3 goals
#19 Santi Clafus, 29, Chan City, 4 Caps, 3 Goals
Gavon is a wonderful Midfielder with heaps of talent. He has tons of Dribbling skills and has a knack for Free Kicks. He is also able to tackle well. Jin Tze is a experienced passer who is able to hold the ball well and sets up attacks with ease. Viszier Felon, bought from 2 division club Toisipi is a young speedster who can speed down the lines, cutting in or crossing. He can shoot from any distance. Huigen is a first choice midfielder with tons of experience and is able to tower over enemies. He has been replaced by Sua Chow, the talent from Horimat Academy doing well at The Zebras United, and is raring for some proper first team experience. Stockain Lelop was unknown until a few months ago, where he pushed Masting United to Promotion to the first Division. He is able to push through defenders with ease. Huli has been making strides at club level and has been given a place into the team. Santi is a Midfielder who has excelled in club but not in country. He may be able to make a breakthrough after improvement in his last national Matches. Luo Xiang Mao enters the team after a star breakthrough in the lower leagues.

Forwards
#21 Carunos Majaria, 22, The Zebras United, ) caps , 0goals
#9 Juyt Dersa, 19, West Juxe United, 12 Caps, 10 goals
#20 Sami Ning, 21, Nationale Jovannica, 2 Caps, 0 Goals
#11 Jovan Ilohil, 26, Nationale Jovannica, 30 Caps, 20 Goals (CAPTAIN)

#10 Thomas Behine, 26, Ninhein United, 11 Caps, 6 Goals
#22 John Crackers, 21, Chan City, 0caps, 0 Goals
Thomas is a quick attacking forward able to dodge defenders and score goals. Ianu is a false 9, able to hold the ball and pass it around. He has let Juyt Dersa take centre stage, the phoenomenon making waves in both the SWC and DBC. He is looking to get Senior team experience. He has a good presence on the field. Jovan is the best player of the National Team, able to dribble, pass and wriggle out of impossible situations, He has a knack of being at the right place at the right time. Sami is like Ianu, able to hold the ball and pass well. He needs to work on his recent goal drought. Rivilia is an experienced forward with good balance of speed and strength. Deingh is a veteran Winger able to cross extremely well and able to hold his own against 3 to 4 defenders. After the death of Rivilia, the tricky Carunos took his place. John Crackers is more solid and straightforward and will be a interesting talent.

Coach: Gonzal Mathee
This coach style is a quick passing, innovative, and fluid style of game, weaving chances for his prolific strikers to strike. He is able to use training to the right extent to train the team to a well-oiled machine. He is very emotional, crying and celebrating along with his team. In his Prime, he played for Varla Crlak United. He is able to understand the plight of his players, and is able to help players. He has attention to detail, and often travels to scout opponent tactics and such.

Asisstant: Denigh Kian
He has become a assistant coach after retiring.

Stadium: Great Jovannica Stadium (Nationale Jovannica)
Capacity: 65,000

Formation: 4-2-4

Nickname: The Emperors

Summary: This Team is a well oiled Team, able to melt and solidify positions in a instant. The team's strength is its ability and push forward and backward in an instant, with leaders in all lines. They attack particularly well, with thrusts in all sides and passing that can ruin enemy defences.

We had a superb WCQ 86, only missing out on qualification to the playoffs by one point. We are hoping to come back with a bang!

The Jovannic National League is a well-established League with a Long and Illustrious History. the Top teams include Nationale Jovannica, New Hope City, Varla Crlak United, Chan City and West Juxe United.

Home Away

Manager
Didrik Gjedrem
Age: 55
Two cycles into his three cycle contract and Didrik has done everything but bring home a regional or World Cup title for the Marauders, having gotten to the Final of the previous AOCAF and the latter stages in both his World Cup attempts, in addition to having won the Eagles' Cup in his first tournament in charge. His methodical attacking nature has the side playing more like it did when it was the most dominant force in the sport but they are just missing a certain spark to get them over that last hurdle. A similar showing from the Marauders will most likely see Didrik be given an extension, as he has the team performing the best it has in years and he could go down as one of the best in the Marauders and Vanorian history if he can manage to add that elusive sixth star to the crest.

Assistant Manager
Kasper Volheim
Age: 41
After a successful trial run with the recently reinstated U21 national team, Volheim was appointed the assistant manager for the senior team as well with the number of youth players that are in the team and pool at large. Having shown to have the capabilities of managing them at Raynor City United's youth team and being a good go between as an assistant in the Di Bradini Cup, Volheim looks to keep up the success rate at the senior level and perhaps be that missing piece to get the team to winning a trophy.

Keeper

1 Julius Miljeteig, Cednia Beach AFC Image
Age - 34
Sex - M
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 162 lbs
Julius has had a good showing at the domestic level but at the international level he has not been able to be consistently among the best, being a step below the greatness that was Sean Smørdal. However he makes the saves that he is expected to, being a fairly reliable shot stopper but not an elite level keeper by any means. Fortunately for him, he does not need to make the spectacular often with superb field players in front of him.

Defenders

4 Vårin Løvland, Mar Sara FC
Age - 29
Sex - F
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 148 lbs
As pacy as most Vanorian footballers come, tenacious as well, she is one of those rare defenders who is as comfortable with the ball at her feet as she is in defending her marks. Quick to get stuck in and throw her body at an opponent, she is perhaps a bit more reckless than a normal Vanorian defender, but her play with the Flames as been stellar and has produced the results that have given her the chance to start for the national team.

6 Ralph Winter, Kitara AA Image
Age - 24
Sex - M
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 172 lbs
A strong and versatile defender who can play both as a fullback or as a centerback when called upon as he does for his club side, a club side who just managed to bring home the Champions' League. Winter will be looking to use the competition to go from the reserve pool to be considered for the starting lineup.

2 Ulrike Kluge, SC Rinaldi
Age - 29
Sex - F
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 168 lbs
A quick and pacy defender who can sometimes get caught out by smart opposition but her raw physical skills allow her to overcome any such mistakes with the recovery speed needed to be an elite level defender. Her lack of consistency is why it has taken her so long to get into the first team.

Midfield

8 Pánfilo Veliz, FC Capri
Age: 31
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 156 lbs
The first player born in Sabine and Caddonia to make the national team, Veliz was carefully groomed to be a dynamic attacking winger coming through the Capri youth and reserve teams. That masterful ability to dribble, cross, or if needed even finish moves makes him a wonderful assist for the offensive side of the ball, but does mean he is a bit more lax when it comes to his defensive responsibilities.

7 Heike Schoß, Jinja City FC Image
Age - 24
Sex - F
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 167 lbs
A young attacking midfielder that has learned to play a little further back in order to have a chance to break into the national team rather than trying to dislodge Hawk. She is intelligent on the ball and seems to be on the upwards part of her career after joining Jinja City in the highly competitive S-FPL.

10 Laborious Hawk, Bastion Image
Age - 752
Sex - M
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 213 lbs
Words do not even begin to define his talent, his talent defines words. He was awarded one of the spots that the Vanorians have in the World Cup Hall of Fame, with it being very well deserved, as he has and continues to earn everything he has been given every single day. Hawk simply strives to be the very best footballer, captain, and teammate that there can be, with the hunger for perfection driving him forth on and off the pitch.

5 Gideon Riemann, AS Bezieres Image
Age - 24
Sex - M
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 184 lbs
Gideon emerged as a powerful and reliable center midfielder during the Finals two World Cups ago, coming to play a destroyer role alongside Larsen and was able to be a highly influential impact substitute. Strong and pacy, versatile enough to play both in the center of the park as well as on the wing when called upon, he looks to be a long term starter for the Marauders as long as his club career doesn't have him fall out of favor.

3 Indra Söderström, Brinemouth Image
Age - 24
Sex - F
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 142 lbs
Thought to be one of the next great attacking wingers for the Marauders, Indra made the interesting decision to go to one of the struggling sides of the Audioslavia league. She did her best to keep them up for several seasons before they were relegated but she catapulted to one of the best teams in the world in Brinemouth on the basis of her talent showcased both for club as well as country. Still in need of a bit of refinement, she is nonetheless a very lethal player out wide for the Marauders.

Strikers

9 Jutta Palminger, age 23, FC Capri
Age - 24
Sex - F
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 172 lbs
Another product of the masterful attacking academy at Capri, Jutta started her career as just a cunny speed merchant who used her pace to get behind defenses and easily score. A late growth spurt turned her into a more well rounded player with an imposing physical presence that can both move past defenders and through the channels, but also win fights in the air when she has to.

11 Lothas Ludwig, FC Felsenkirchen 1879 Image
Age - 24
Sex - M
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 161 lbs
Few players in Vanorian history have made such a climb as quickly and as profoundly as Ludwig has, bar that of Laborious Hawk, and it is easy to see why there is some hot debate as to whether Lothas is the best player in his generation. He is a well rounded striker who has a good amount of strength for his size and plenty of pace to get past lackadaisical defending. Versatile enough to play on the wing or as a withdrawn striker when needed and unselfish enough to feed teammates if they have the better opportunity. Lothas is a star now and looks to only get better as he starts to enter the prime of his career.

Please assume YES for all answers in the Permission Box – just TG me first if it's particularly insane and/or egregious. Also, anything COVID related can do one.
Ages displayed are as at the World Cup 89 Finals. Subtract two years for first half of qualifiers, one year for second half.

Image
KRYTENIA 2290 CAFA CUP SQUAD
Modifier: +2.5

THE MANAGEMENT TEAM

Manager – Paul DAVIS, Age 54
Having taken over the reins from Jerome Jaffacake-Phillips, Davis had a bumpy ride in his early campaigns as national team manager. Following successes in the AOCAF, Di Bradini, and Eagle's Cups, the former Ousevale boss came just one game short of winning the last Cup of Harmony, then did the same again in the inaugural CAFA Cup. Now comes the big test: getting the Dragons back to the top table.

Assistant Manager – Gary BARTON, Age 49
An ex-Ousevale manager with an ex-Mercia assistant. The national team makes for strange bedfellows sometimes. Has redeemed himself excellently, taking charge of the Under-21s in their run to the fiftieth Di Bradini Cup final.

Goalkeeping Coach – Marcus WASHINGTON, Age 57
Defensive Coach – Robert FIELDS, Age 58
Offensive Coach – Selaphiel KENNEDY, Age 48
Physiotherapist – Stephen WILLIS, Age 49

THE SQUAD

Goalkeepers

Image
Robert WILSON
VICE-CAPTAIN
Age: 32
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: Lehen Neorudo (MRT)

His performances in the CAFA Cup earned him a move north, and with regular domestic football back on the menu after the unfortunate end to his time in Valanora, Wilson is back in top form. He's even worked on the weak spot in his repertoire – his kicking.

Image
Michael SVEYN
Age: 25
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: Langlois Oceanic (KSK)

Having been relegated from the O-League Premier in successive seasons – with Penniton United and Secklow – Sveyn took the opportunity to leave the league altogether; he becomes the first Krytenian to play in Kelssek. Ironically, this will mean he gets less practice playing for a team that actually has a defence for once.

Image
James ORWELL
Age: 20
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: Ashton Olympic

More of a sweeper-keeper than Krytenians are used to; is slowly ironing out his tendency to get caught out of position off an opposition long pass. If he can sort out that part of his game, he may be robbing the gloves from Wilson.

Defenders

Image
Billy PRICE
Age: 27
Position: Right-back
Club: Oustia

Oustia's captain has now supplanted Stephen Cameronesi for the national side. Sturdy and relieable full-back, tends not to bomb forward too often.

Image
Benjamin LISPALLE
Age: 25
Position: Left-back
Club: Beckton Supermarine

Speedy little firecracker, tends to get deployed as more of a wingback for the Mariners. Working on improving his positioning skills after being badly expose in that regard in the Cup of Harmony 80 final.

Image
Ross OKANO
CAPTAIN
Age: 33
Position: Centre-back
Club: 1830 Cathair (AUD)

The rock at the heart of the Krytenian defence, Okano is more reliable than a garden strimmer. All this despite the unfortunate affliction of playing his domestic football in Audioslavia.

Image
Fergal FINNAN
Age: 23
Position: Centre-back
Club: Emberton Hibernians

His excellent reading of the game has seen him break up the long-standing Okano-Sinton partnership at the back. Skilful with the ball at his feet and comfortable in the air.

Image
Elias MOLINARI
Age: 27
Position: Centre-back
Club: Emberton Reds

Mature and cool-headed; a rare trait amongst the choke-happy Reds team. Tends to back off rather than rush into the tackle. Captained the Under-21s, but finds his international prospects limited thanks to the emergence of Fergal Finnan.

Image
Joey SINTON
Age: 33
Position: Centre-back
Club: Sabrefell Moths (NPH)

Pace was never his forté, and his advancing years have made this even more so. First yard, though, is in his head.

Image
Pablo RUIZ
Age: 24
Position: Right-back
Club: Avidia United

Forward-thinking right-back with a mean cross. Plays very much like a wing-back even in a back four.

Image
Adam CAMPBELL
Age: 22
Position: Left-back
Club: Dereapolis City

Excellent interceptor of the ball, his skills helped the Derries to promotion and a deep run in the Liga B Trophy.

Midfielders

Image
Oliver SELHURST
Age: 27
Position: Left midfield
Club: Ashton Olympic

Selhurst like to cut inside, drawing full-backs out of the play and creating space for his team-mates. Has a tendency to hang on to the ball longer than is needed, but there again is excellent in the dribble.

Image
Max SNELDERS
Age: 29
Position: Central midfield
Club: Avidia United

Snelders has stepped effortlessly into the boots of Cormac O'Neill as the fulcrum from which Krytenia's attacks tend to develop. Cultured passer of the ball.

Image
Robert REEDER
Age: 25
Position: Right/central midfield
Club: Yeaddin Owls (VIL)

Impressed with a stunning debut season in Casuals' title-winning campaign. Reeder plays the game almost on instinct, looking to find space and run at defenders at every opportunity. A real headache to play against. Was expected to be a fixture at Coalfields for years, but the Owls made Casuals an offer they couldn't refuse. Also, Krytenians do like a trip to Yeaddin...even if that's a bit of a longer trip nowadays.

Image
Carlos SENNA
Age: 20
Position: Left midfield
Club: Avidia City

Diminutive but speedy, Senna is brimming with confidence. Set-piece specialist; there are few in the game better at taking corners. Vdarans don't rate him for some strange reason.

Image
Andrew ASPRILLA
Age: 28
Position: Central midfield
Club: Lunas FC (PAS)

Cultured midfielder with a sizeable box of tricks, now exported to Pasarga. So unpredictable, sometimes even his team-mates are confused. Likely to be used when Davis gets especially experimental. Or desperate. Delete as applicable.

Image
Anthony TAYLOR
Age: 22
Position: Right midfield
Club: Mercia Bromham

Taylor loves to run at defenders and cause problems. Don't be surprised if he cuts inside to sniff out a chance.

Forwards

Image
Alun BELMWR
Age: 30
Position: Forward
Club: Mercia Bromham

English may not be his first language - in fact, it's his third, behind Welsh and goals. Prodigious talent, oddly spelt but familiar name. Surprisingly only just hitting his thirties – he's been around forever, it seems.

Image
Ciaran RAFFERTY
Age: 25
Position: Forward
Club: Emberton Hibernians

One of the main reasons that Hibs made it to the top flight is this young man's predatory instinct. A clinical finisher, give him a sight of goal and he'll more than likely score. Scored for fun alongside Montalban at the fiftieth Di Bradini Cup, and is probably the only person not upset that Neil Smith has retired from international football as he looks to score for fun alongside Montalban at the senior level.

Image
Cande MONTALBAN
Age: 23
Position: Forward
Club: Chromatik (CMT)

Montalban could be the answer to Krytenia's left-side problem up front – that, or just stick him up top and watch the fireworks. Given his new club, expect those fireworks to be multi-coloured.

Image
Ian OSMAN
Age: 23
Position: Forward
Club: Oustia

Clinical finisher who'll be revelling in better service than he gets at Oustia .

Image
Fraser YOUNG
Age: 26
Position: Forward
Club: Mercia Bromham

If you're going to learn your trade, do it at the feet of the nation's best. Young plays off the shoulder of Alun Belmwr for his club, and loves lurking on the edge of the box for that second ball.

Image
Alex MEITNER
Age: 28
Position: Forward
Club: Casuals Osteria

Sampson, Parsons, Vinelli, and now Meitner; Krytenia seems to be developing a stock in trade of strikers called Alexander. Frippery aside, the Casuals striker is the opportunistic finisher at the spearhead of the Miners' impressive core.

Nyowani Kitara National Team

Nyowani Kitara is a nation that is a multi-ethnic and largely bi-racial communist nation, ruled as a one party state. The communist party is called the Kitara Progressive Workers Coalitions, abbreviated as the KPWC, which is the country's only legal political party. While for many years the party has always been the most important institution, over the past 30 years the military has taken a dominant role in the affairs of the party, and by extension, the state.

There are three major ethnic groups in Nyowani Kitara. The first is the Kitara, who account for approximately 57% of the population. These are black skinned people who originate as part of the Kitara tribe, in Banija, mass migrated to modern-day Nyowani Kitara in the 1840s after they were largely exiled by Banijan authorities. Because of that, they have no diplomatic relations with Banija and are largely to be considered 'radically' anti-Banijan. Radical anti-Mormon teachings from the country, alongside Communism and a dispute over who should use the name(Banija consider their own Kitara Region to be the 'true Kitara', while Nyowani Kitara believe Banija lost the rights to the name when the exilied the Kitara people), lead to heavily strained relations.

When they came to north Rushmore, They conquered the land that was dominated by a variety of white native tribes. Osterlanders(approximately 30% of the population) are the biggest native white ethnic group, with Nordlanders(6%) and Zealanders(1%) behind them. The remaining 6% are largely white immigrants and their descendants from neighboring countries (particularly Graentfjall, Tikariot, Yuezhou, and San Ortelio).

Nyowani Kitara is known for its short, yet harsh, winters. This is a small and poorer country, and therefore outdoor sports are rather popular in this corner of Rushmore. Ethnic group for each player is listed. While sports in Nyowani Kitara are integrated on gender, this team is all males.

Information
Country code: NYK
Denonym: New Kitaran
Association: Kitara's Workers Footballing Association(KWFA)
Manager: Liang Wei(Yuezhou). 51 years old. A former assistant manager for Yuezhou during their communist era, he is a good selection for the country to lead the national team. He understands the pressures of international football, and yet, as someone loyal to the Communists in Yuezhou, is palatbly acceptable to Nyowani Kitara(who remain the last nation in Rushmore to still recognize Ren Qiang as the rightful head of state of their western neighbors). While Nyowani Kitara used a player-manager at the last three Copa Rushmoris, the KWFA, in recognition of the challenges of World Cup competition, ensured that they'd hire a full-time manager to properly divide out responsibilities.
Senior Assistant Manager: Raira Ouma. 39 years old.
Captain: Tage Hermansson
Alternate Captain: Amittai Owino

Formation And Tactics

McDonagh does not look to upset the usual Pasargan outlook too often, although he will not be exclusively looking at very pacy players the way that Griffiths was known to do while in charge of the team. The Wanderers will look to build through the middle with a slightly possession based system that looks to get the most out of their midfielders and wingers who are the workhorses of the team. The team will open up against teams they look to be significantly better than on paper but will otherwise try to keep a more methodical approach, believing that their determination will eventually find the solution to getting past the opposition.

Captain: Deli Ács
Corner Taker: Erik Földessy
Set Pieces: Márió Szölösi
Penalties: Elek Salai

Home Stadium: Stade de Torgos (90,000)

Goalkeepers
GK: Borka Szekeres, age 31, CA Paulinthal (F)
GK: Dalma Kollár, age 23, Tanrısal (F)
GK: Szescõ Mezei, age 29, Hellinic Rouge
GK: Hajna Pálffy, age 31, Rammsissil Image (F)
GK: András Gerô, age 30, Sardin United

Mezei continues to shine both domestically and internationally as an elite level goalkeeper and though Szekeres has done exceptionally well herself, it is hard to displace someone who could be in contention for the best keeper in the sport at the moment. It makes the pecking order very clear with the obvious number one and backup, and with Pálffy sustaining success in Vilita, she is the third choice. Kollár at Tani might be one to keep an eye on after being given the number one shirt at the club level and doing remarkably well in the season, but she and Gerô both have a lot to prove and overcome if they want to be supplant the three ahead of them and be part of a potential squad in the Finals.

Defenders
LB: Jakub Svatoš, age 23, Mar Sara FC Image
LB/LW: Deli Ács, age, 32, Directus Image

R/CB: Tabor Csikós, age 32, Spartangrad Image
RB: Viktor Szôcs, age 23, Hellenic Rouge
RB: Anita Szarka, age 29, Sardin United (F)

This might be the last chance saloon for a lot of the defending corps, with younger players starting to emerge ready to take over the spots that have long been held by veteran contingent. With several of the defenders in their thirties, including all the starters from last cycles' Finals team, it is clear that sooner or later there will need to be a transition. It might start with Vass supplanting Deli Ács on the left, with continued defensive success at the club level finally getting them the starting position. The rest of the squad largely remains the same but the young players from Tani and CAP are definitely making their cases to be not just in the pool but serious contenders for starting positions this qualifying cycle.

Midfielders

RW: Erik Földessy, age 32, CA Paulinthal
RW: Nándor Slots, age 28, FK Metropola Borograd Image
RW: Ildiko Kálmán, age 29, Lujano Image (F)

D/MC: Csongor Sebeôk, age 23, Hellinic Rouge
MC: Ugor Gyôrffy, age 28, Damogran FC Image
D/MC: Ubul Kuruc, age 27, Kitara AA Image
LW: Vojmil Topić, age 25, CA Paulinthal
LW: Pellegrin Csapó, age 29, Marque Image
LW: Juanma Urías Zarate, age 30, Santos Luega

The changeover in the midfield is very little, with only two center midfielders being rotated out from the pool for last tournament and with a balanced blend of veteran players and younger players looking to make their mark, it is easy to understand why. Vojmil Topić has emerged as an absolute world class talent on the left and looks to be the key piece for the Wanderers, although Márió Szölösi's playmaking abilities in the middle of the park will also no doubt be handy for the team. Depth is good across the board but there is a clear drop off from the backup to the third choice on the left wing and in the middle of the park. There is time aplenty to prove those doubters wrong for the reserves but on the eye test, the third choice center midfielders do lack a little bit to be desired, which is odd given that the center of the park is the Wanderers' usual strongest area of the pitch.

Strikers

LW/ST: Elek Salai, age 23, Ibini FC Image
AML/ST: Boriska Nagy, age 27, Spartangrad Image (F)
ST: Eustacio Corral Magana, age 23, CA Paulinthal
ST: Eduard Novaković, age 21, Tanrısal
ST: Najiyah Lubanah Mifsud, age 28, Stein-los Turkish (F)
ST: Mihály Bernát, age 28, Revolutionaires Image

It is a cycle of change up front when it comes to who will be the supporting cast to the talented Salai and Nagy up front, with a handful of international retirements forcing McDonagh to get creative with their pool inclusion. It feels like Magana has been around for forever but yet the striker is still a young twenty-three and has learned from some of the best at CAP, become quite the complete forward and would likely be the first striker off the bench if Nagy or Salai need to be taken off. Mihály Bernát has started to bang in the goals in Eura with limited playing time and it is only because they are not a starter that they are not higher on the list, while Mifsud gets the job done but is not very flashy about it. Novaković got a surprise nod as a starter at Tani this last season and got double digit goals, which is quite the achievement in itself and well worth the inclusion in the pool even if they are not likely to see much playing time even in the qualifiers.

FORMATION / FORMACION

STYLE OF PLAY / ESTILO DE JUEGO
Style Modifier: +2
Description: Alfonzo Medrano likes to play attacking football with three players up front, with tall striker Amunategui in the middle and abundance of wingers capable of playing multiple positions at their disposal. The three players upfront is mandatory in his lineups, and he prefers the 4-3-3 over the 3-4-3 formation due to lack of central defenders in his squad. He may also play 2-5-3 depending on the situation. They also employ a physical brand of football where players commit to tackles and prefer to roughen up the opposition.

The team prefer the usage of wingers to deliver the ball to the box via low to high crosses, and does not prefer to keep the ball at the middle of the park. Corners are usually delivered via crosses with the ball kicked from the corner spot.

Medrano is a calm man and is less likely to react violently to partial calls. His coaching staff however, have a quirk to start touchline brawls.

Most likely to:
Score penalties: Quevedo, Amunategui, Vertiz
Score a direct free kick: Quevedo, Berriz, Palmero
Concede a penalty: Puma, Aranaz, Coro
Booked for short temper: Puma, Duran, Maquibar

HOME STADIUM / ESTADIO DE CASA
Image

The national team plays all of their home matches in the 72,000-seater Estadio Nacional en el Castillo in Mandrid. Built in 2193, the stadium's sole purpose is to host national team matches in football and rugby union, and several kingdom events.

Note: In the Adabian timeline, the World Cup qualifiers take place in October 2034-March 2035, and the World Cup proper in June-July 2035. Age is as of October 1, 2034.

The Adabian National Football Team

The line it is drawn, the curse it is cast
The slow one now will later be fast
As the present now will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin’
And the first one now will later be last
For the times they are a-changin’

-Bob Dylan, “The Times They Are a-Changin’”

Demonym: Adabian (plural Adabians)
Association: Adab Football Association (AFA)

BACKGROUND
The future is what everybody is talking about as the Adab national football team head to their second World Cup cycle in Saad Kaykali’s second stint as manager. The Adabians are keen to show that they are back for good in international football following their thirteen-year hiatus from 2019 to 2032, and to that effect the Adab Football Association (AFA) finally agreed to form youth teams and send them to international tournaments to show what Adab’s young players had to offer. They wildly outperformed everyone’s expectations; Faisal al-Ali and the under-18 team marched all the way to the final of the Under-18 World Cup, with only an extra-time winner from Mertagne preventing them from hoisting the trophy. And as of this writing, the under-21 team under Rashid Abbas – who is also co-assistant manager of the senior team – have reached the semifinals of the Di Bradini Cup (Under-21 World Cup). The future is bright for Adabian football, and in a show of confidence Kaykali picked no less than seven under-21 players and two under-18 players as substitutes in the senior team, accompanying returning veterans Salman al-Muntar, Adanirari Uhwan, and Shamsuiluna Zambiya, with Kaykali hoping that the latter three will be able to provide wisdom and guidance in the benches, as well as perform on the pitch when called upon, backed by their years of experience. Kaykali particularly values the presence of under-21 goalkeeper Satchit Chandrasekar; worried that senior keeper Mohammed Marramzi is starting to decline, the manager believes that Chandrasekar – who has had a stellar experience at the Di Bradini Cup so far – is more than able to step up when needed despite his age.

At 60, Kaykali has shown no indications of retiring any time soon. Indeed, it is becoming more and more likely that he will instead step back from running his real estate company to fully focus on managing the national team. Much more speculation revolves around his assistant managers; 67-year-old Inimabakesh Thulus, one of Kaykali’s oldest friends, has veered between publicly considering retirement and declaring that he will stay by Kaykali’s side “as long as he’s here”, but is rumored to be retiring anyway at the conclusion of this cycle. As for the 47-year-old Abbas, his posting to the under-21 team is widely seen as his managerial baptism of fire, a test to prove if he is worthy of the top job. Thulus’ retirement will leave Abbas as Kaykali’s sole assistant manager, and from there surely there is no other way but up. But dark horses circle around: Under-18 manager al-Ali is reportedly under consideration as well as Kaykali’s successor after taking his charges to the Under-18 World Cup final in their first-ever international tournament. And there are rumors that Kaykali is pushing for either Marramzi or forward Enlilbani Yargab – maybe even both of them – to pursue coaching qualifications and manage domestic sides following their retirement from playing as a way of preparing them for the national team job.

The squad themselves come into this cycle with confidence, poised to offer a formidable challenge to whoever will face them. Goalkeeper and captain Marramzi remains an inspiring presence, commanding the respect and reverence of his teammates even as concerns arise regarding his age and deteriorating skills. Taymour Frangieh heads the defense, relatively shying away from publicity compared to some of his teammates up front and letting his agility – barely diminished at age 33 – and most importantly his ability to quickly rally his fellow defenders to close ranks during every attack from the opposition speak for themselves. At midfield, Alulim Sinmuballit and Emma Arthur have formed a powerful partnership which they insist is purely professional, their speed allowing them increased coverage of the pitch and domination of possession, which they skillfully use to quickly transfer the ball away from enemy feet and to the attacking trio of Jushur al-Kufa, Rebekah Yissakar, and the great Enlilbani Yargab. At age 35, the country’s greatest player remains by far its most lethal finisher, although he now largely avoids ostentatious displays of acrobatics and dribbling skills which marked his younger days in favor of simple runs towards the penalty box. Al-Kufa and Yissakar are also gradually bearing more and more of the goalscoring burden, with Yargab occasionally dropping back to serve as a false nine, leaving a hole in the opposition defense to be exploited by al-Kufa, Yissakar, and the midfielders.

KIT

The national team's kits, designed by Ahmad Enlil (the first President of the Football Association) in 1907, are currently manufactured by Shining Sun Company, owned by Rahman Ashurbanipal, businessman and grandson of Emperor Tizqar III.

STAFF
Manager: Saad KAYKALI - Male – born January 20, 1974 (age 60)
After a thirteen-year hiatus, Kaykali is back at his post as national team manager and enjoying it. Though insisting that he is more than able to juggle his two jobs as national team manager and leader of a real estate company, some believe he will soon be leaving the latter, from which he has been taking increasingly frequent leaves anyway, as a sign of his commitment to the team.

Assistant manager: Inimabakesh THULUS- Male – born March 28, 1967 (age 67)
A friend of Kaykali from their playing days at Baghdad City, Inimabakesh Thulus gladly returned once again to assist his friend in his second stint managing the team. Rumored to be retiring at the end of this World Cup cycle, which will see Rashid Abbas assume the position of sole assistant manager to Kaykali.

Assistant manager: Rashid ABBAS - Male – born February 15, 1987 (age 47)
Formerly a star player in the island country of Faraby, now an associated state of Adab, Abbas is determined to do all he can to help the team and prove that he has earned his position by merit, and not merely as a gesture of appeasement from the AFA to its Farabian counterpart. Currently also manager of the under-21 team.

General coach: Yitzhak BENNETT - Male – born September 20, 1976 (age 58)
Variously described as quiet, active, calm, and attentive, Bennett is very much respected by the players, who admire his work ethic, loyalty to the national team, and willingness to listen to them.

Goalkeeping coach: Faishal AR-RASHID - Male – born August 14, 1978 (age 56)
Regarded, much like Bennett, as a stabilizing influence in the national team, ar-Rashid is particularly close – thanks to his job - to goalkeeper Mohammed Marramzi and is understood to be one of the latter’s few confidants.

Physio: Hamza RIDHA - Male – born January 15, 1983 (age 51)
A longtime friend of both Kaykali and Thulus. Widely respected by fellow staff and players for the understated way by which he performs his job.

STARTING LINEUP
Note: I may reveal the starting lineup and substitutes for the next match(es) in my RPs. Should I not RP or should my RP not contain any information regarding the starting lineup and substitutes, then feel free to pick them yourself.

GK: 1 – Mohammed MARRAMZI - Male – born March 15, 1999 (age 35) - Baghdad City - 1 goal (Captain)
The Captain, as he is often called by the other players in the national team, is at the center of concerns that his performance is starting to decline, which has led Kaykali to draft U-21 goalkeeper Satchit Chandrasekar as a senior team substitute on the back of his stellar performance at the Di Bradini Cup. Nevertheless Kaykali still believes – and hopes, in fact – that his loyal captain still has what it takes to go through at least one more World Cup cycle.

LB: 2 – Tansu ALTUN - Female – born February 25, 2009 (age 25) - Mosul - 0 goals
Fondly called the "heart of the squad" by her teammates. Kind, polite, smiling, beautiful inside and out, she gets along easily with all the staff and players. Yet her soft exterior hides a hard, relentless, unyielding side to her, which shines through every time she is called to perform on the pitch.

CB: 3 – Shania ENMERKAR - Female – born January 20, 2008 (age 26) - Baghdad City - 0 goals
Widely seen as one of the leaders of the “female wave” in Adabian football, observers nevertheless agree that Enmerkar has earned her place in the team by merit, rather than merely by virtue of her gender. The other female players in the squad look up to her as their leader and spokeswoman, and it is she who often goes to Kaykali to communicate the women’s concerns and opinions.

CB: 4 – Yousif ISSOU - Male – born September 27, 2004 (age 29) - Adab United - 0 goals
A reliable defender, what he lacks in star power he makes up for in tenacity, a seemingly endless energy reserve, and impressive performance on the pitch day in and day out.

RB: 5 – Taymour FRANGIEH - Male – born February 24, 2001 (age 33) - Adab United - 1 goal
The youngest of the remaining veterans from the World Cup 81 squad, Frangieh has gradually assumed the position of mentor to the newer players and maintains good relations with them, but his relationship with captain Marramzi reportedly remains troubled as a result of his interreligious romance with Marramzi’s sister years ago.

LM: 6 – Emma ARTHUR - Female – born November 18, 2012 (age 21) - Adab United - 1 goal
A representative of the Anglo-Adabian community, the second-youngest member of the squad, and widely seen as a young prodigy on almost the same level as Sinmuballit. Also a stunning beauty who has been offered supermodel contracts, which has led to concerns that this will distract her too much from her job as a player, although Kaykali has dismissed those concerns.

CM: 7 – Alulim SINMUBALLIT - Male – born September 15, 2013 (age 21) - Adab United - 1 goal
The baby of the squad, and an undoubted prodigy of the game. Sinmuballit desires nothing more than to impress his teammates, and so far he has impressed them greatly. Especially close to Emma Arthur; together the duo are the centerpiece of Adab’s midfield.

RM: 8 – Ephraim ORLEV - Male – born April 18, 1999 (age 35) - Mosul - 7 goals
A veteran from World Cup 81, Orlev remains an integral part of the squad who can be relied upon to drive forward the team’s hallmark counterattacks. He was reportedly uncomfortable with what he perceived to be his status as the team’s token Jew, although this was assuaged by the arrival of Rebekah Yissakar.

LAM/LW: 9 – Jushur AL-KUFA - Male – born August 27, 2003 (age 31) - Damascus Steelers - 11 goals
A longtime star of the Adabian domestic leagues, the 30-year-old al-Kufa has finally secured his position as a mainstay of the national team. A consistently polite and unassuming man, he is respected by all of his teammates.

RAM/RW: 10 – Rebekah YISSAKAR - Female – born January 20, 2013 (age 21) - Adab United - 13 goals
Brash, funny, happy-go-lucky, all those words have been used to describe Rebekah Yissakar, but do not let her bubbly, excitable personality distract you from the fact that she is one of Adabian football’s rising talents, with a deadly finishing touch that secured her a place at the forefront of the national team. Widely tipped to be the “new Yargab” and his spiritual successor.

CF: 11 – Enlilbani YARGAB - Male – born April 21, 1999 (age 35) - Baghdad City - 64 goals (Vice Captain)
Widely regarded as the greatest Adabian player of all time, the backbone of the national team, Yargab is not as fast as he used to be, yet he remains as capable a striker as ever and is still more than able to deliver goals at a regular rate. His love for football burns strong still and he is happy to be able to mentor the younger members of the squad, although he is sometimes taken aback by their reverence for him.

SUBSTITUTES
GK: 12 – Satchit CHANDRASEKAR – Male – born February 7, 2015 (age 19) – Mosul – 0 goals

CB: 15 – Sarrugi AKSHAK – Male – born May 29, 2016 (age 18) – Adab United U21 – 0 goals
RB: 16 – Sally THOMAS – Female – born October 5, 2015 (age 18) – Beirut U21 – 0 goals
LM: 17 – Salman AL-MUNTAR – Male – born May 10, 2001 (age 33) – Adab United – 4 goals

STADIUM
Image

Adab City Stadium, the pride and joy of Adabian football, was completed in 1940. Located in the northern part of Adab City, the stadium was able to accommodate 40,000 people at the time of its opening. Renovations in 1978 made it an all-seater stadium and expanded its capacity to 55,350. Later it increased to 75,000 following upgrades in 2009-10 and then 76,500 after another upgrade in 2019. It is currently home to the Adabian national football team and Adab City FC.

TACTICS AND FORMATION
The team will use 4-3-2-1, the "Christmas tree" formation, with an emphasis on attacking play and taking advantage of their opponents' mistakes to launch a quick counterattack, marked by rapid passing from the back four - and, if deemed safe enough, long balls - through the midfield and to the front.

Starting Lineup | Načetanniya Komanda

Vladimir Hužyak: (GK) As the final line of defense, Hužyak is expected to do whatever it takes in order to prevent the ball from going in the net. Luckily for his teammates, Hužyak excels at his job, having held the highest number of clean sheets for two consecutive years in the Polkopian Premier League, and is the obvious starter for the goalkeeper job for the Snovski. His greatest weakness, as many of his opponents in Polkopia's domestic league have come to find out, is that he has a tendency to over-extend his role, coming out of his zone far too often and thus is subject to chips and jukes from some of the more skilled forwards that he'll face off against.

Nikita Rudin: (RB) Nikita Rudin is one who has demonstrated that he is more than willing to give 110% of his energy during the entire game, and one will see that he has no issue running up and down the pitch in order to chase down his opponent. He displays a great deal of speed and uses this to his advantage, as he is very difficult to catch up to once he pulls ahead. His biggest disadvantage, however, is that he seldom finishes any of the games he starts, as he is prone to getting winded fairly easily, given how much energy he exerts each and every game. It is almost certainly a given that he will be substituted in a majority of the games that Polkopia plays during its World Cup run.

Lev Rusakov: (CB) In Polkopia's domestic league, many didn't expect Olympik Restnov to finish in the top-4 of the league. Prior to this past season, Olympik Restnov had always been considered a mid-tier team, due to their explosive offense being countered by their extremely weak defense, so any team that found themselves behind always managed to catch up. That is, until the acquisition of Lev Rusakov from Peeto Korol' meant that the team's defense had a rock in the back to rely on in case of counterattacks. This is exactly the role he plays in the National Team as well, as he will very rarely extend too far the zone in which he's comfortable in, as he has proven to be a remarkable defender in 1-on-1 matchups against his opponent. Unfortunately, this also means that his defensive line suffers in that the opponent rarely has offsides called on them, as Rusakov's positioning allows for space between him and his opponent.

Vasiliy Zubokov: (CB) Being the only one called up from FK Akasov Orešek, Zubokov has struggled in the past with finding chemistry between himself and his fellow defensemen and loses his positioning fairly quickly. That being said, Zubokov is also an extremely aggressive defender and finds his strengths in bullying his opponents off of the ball and winning the ball back for his side a majority of the time. If utilized correctly, Zubokov can also run up and be another man in the opponent's box during corner kicks as well, using his strength to push past through the crowd in the box and set his sights on the ball. In the domestic league, he scored the most goals as aa defender by the end of last season, and many are looking to see if he is able to repeat that same success here in the National Team where, despite the fact that he is well outside of his comfort zone, has already proved to be an incredible asset to the team.

Vadim Išutin: (LB) The last of the starting defenders for the Polkopian National Team, Vadim Išutin finds his strength, like his fellow fullback, is that he will run up and down the length of the pitch at any given moment. Unlike Rudin, however, he seldom gets tired after running around the pitch all game, and is one of Polkopia's more reliable defenders in this matter. He has great awareness as well, and is able to intercept many short, quick passes and start a Polkopian counter-attack. His downfall, however, is his strength. Many in the Premier League have accused Išutin of freely diving upon feeling his opponent on his back, but in reality, it's the fact that he often runs fairly clumsily and is subject to being thrown off of the ball fairly easily.

Danya Siyan: (CDM) Danya Siyan is always one of the top contenders for most valued player in the Polkopian Premier League, having narrowly lost last season's award to striker Yakoby Kosyo, and much of his usefulness comes with his technical skill. Though he plays as a center midfielder at Lada Kirovski, he is set to move to a more defensive position here, as the central defenders for Polkopia lack technical skill that allow them to fend off some of the more technically savy opponents that they're up against. Siyan's position here is to alleviate much of the stress in this part of the field. Throughout Polkopia's run in this World Cup, however, Siyan will need to get his anger under control, as he has frequently lashed out at his opponents and teammates alike, ultimately causing some sort of tension between himself and some of the players on the field. Head coach Stepan Dyakov will have a difficult time trying to reign in Siyan's temper for the good of the team, but if he can do this, his presence on the field will be undeniably vital for Polkopia's success during this World Cup.

Petro Marčuk: (RM) Petro Marčuk's presence on the pitch for FK Valinkova was one of the more exciting ones to watch, as his synchronization with teammate, David Kurvenkho, was enough to make any viewer scream in delight. Marčuk has a great sense of awareness and will always opt for the one-two quick passes to quickly advance the ball up the pitch and convert these into dangerous attacks for his side. Unfortunately, Kurvenkho's injury left him off of the roster for the World Cup, so Marčuk will have to adjust to account for his other teammates' playstyles. As this is his first time being called up to the national squad, many are anxious to see if Marčuk will be able to convert his domestic success to international success.

Yuri Smyefinov: (CM) As a last-minute replacement for David Kurvenkho, not many people but Smyefinov could have filled the void that Kurvenkho left due to his injury. Smyefinov's technical skill matches that of Smyefinov, however the difference is that Smyefinov is one of the only players on his domestic team who displays such skill, whereas Kurvenkho is a part of a well-oiled machine that makes up FK Valinkova's midfield. During Polkopia's run in this World Cup, Smyefinov will have to forgo some of his individualistic approaches to his playstyle for one which focuses more on his teammates moving the ball down the pitch in unison. That being said, Smyefinov has all of the things required to be very successful in this position, hence why he was immediately chosen to play alongside Marčuk in Kurvenkho's absence.

Stepen Azarov: (LM) Yet another midfielder from FK Valinkova, it's no wonder why the team is regarded as having the best overall midfield in the Polkopian Premier League. Stepen Azarov's contribution to this is not lost on fans, however, as he has often displayed some of the best positioning out of players in similar positions as him, as well as running some of the most crucial routes in order to pursue some of the more dangerous attacks for his side. For his domestic side, he plays a more offensive role, having been the target of Marčuk's and Kurvenkho's key passes leading up to goals for his side, however in this role, he is expected to provide a majority of crosses into his opponent's box. This will be quite an adjustment for Azarov's playstyle, however one can expect that he will still be the recipient of plays set up by the midfield, before eventually crossing it to the attackers in the box.

Maksim Pašin: (CAM) Previously, the explosiveness of Olympik Restnov's offense has been mentioned, and this is largely due to Maksim Pašin's ability to set up plays for his side with ease. His heavy foot gives him the ability to strike from well-outside the box and still manage to score goals with ease, but will need to adjust a little bit to comply with head coach Stepan Dyakov's more pass-centric mentality. That being said though, if left without any options, Pašin will certainly be looking to show the multiverse how hard he can boot the ball from afar, and will consistently test the alertness of his opponents' goalkeepers.

Yakoby Kosyo: (FW) If anyone were to think of a player from the Polkopian National Football Team, more often than not, one would mention Yakoby Kosyo's name. At such a young age, he has already proven himself to be a nuisance for his opponents' defenses on the pitch, displaying a great deal of technical skill and converting nearly every chance into something great for his side. He led his side during the Summer Olympic Games in Electrum to the Round of 16 and will surely be looking to make a name for himself as he leads Polkopia through the most contested football championship in the multiverse. What Kosyo displays in technical skills on the pitch, he lacks in athleticism, as he is very prone to injuries. While he has never experiences something too drastic, it's not uncommon to have him sit out a game or two to recover from ankle or hamstring injuries, so head coach Stepan Dyakov will need to have a plan in place to put forth if and when Kosyo inevitably has to sit out a game during this World Cup run.

King Edward IV Stadium
Image

The stadium is situated in New Sarum, the capital of Ethane. New Sarum is the metropolitan hub of Ethane. Home to around 2.8 million people, it is nestled on the south-west coast of Ethane.

The stadium can hold 29,500 people in the setup as shown above.

The Marianne Detreux Stadium
Image

The stadium is located in Southern Hampton, which is on the southern end of the Isle of Lowe. This is off the coast of Ethane and is accessible by boat and plane, with special ferries and flights put in place for when matches are on. The airport is small however on the island, so much of the travel to the Isle of Lowe is by boat. The Isle of Lowe is a beautiful place with heavy focus on natural beauty. The northern side of the island is very mountainous and is great for hikes.

The stadium can hold 20,000 people.

Newton-Smith Arena
Image

This stadium is located in Letson, located in the south of Ethane. The city is heavily reliant on the tourism industry, with a decent beach and strong historical connections and landmarks as part of a tour of Ethane. The city is very rich in its cultural history and art which can be seen as you walk around the city. Letson is home to around 650,000 people, but feels a lot more homely than the other large cities.

The stadium can hold up to 25,000 people.

'The Pit'
Image

The stadium is located in Deloitte. The most unique of Ethanian stadiums, 'The Pit' is built into an old quarry. The tiers of seating and the pitch is effectively carved out of the rock, creating for a unique experience. It creates a really nice atmosphere and sound, and from the top of 'The Pit' is some beautiful views over the rolling hills around the Deloitte area leading up to the mountain belt in the centre of Ethane. No image quite captures what 'The Pit' looks like, but this image is close enough to represent roughly what is envisaged with 'The Pit', except that this stadium is carved more into the natural environment rather than building a stadium in a hole.

This stadium can hold up to 26,500 attendees.

Esportivan and Proud.
<drawk> If the entirety of the nation of Ethane was covered in a single cubic foot of Ethane on its surface, lighting it all on fire would cause a 5.44 megaton blast.
Best WorldVision Finish: 2nd. Best World Cup Finish: Quarter-Finals. Best KPB Rank: 8th. Best WBC Finish: 1st.

Nation: Montaña Verde
Trigram: MVE
Adjective/demonym: Verdean
Team nickname: Condors

Coach: Serafín Andino Águila (42)
Assistant coach: Pigmalion Perales (40)

Taking over from Enriqueta is Andino Águila. He trades in Enriqueta’s nicotine-stained tracksuits for stiffly starched shirts and her bullish indifference to modern training methods with a holistic attitude incorporating updated approaches to nutrition and spiritual wellness. A former player who was a 5 star prospect at 22 and a 1 star has-been at 26, he drifted out of the game, found God, and reinvented himself as an enthusiastic coach in Calequén’s youth team. His permanent pearly white smile isn’t to everyone’s tastes but his results have been pretty effective since moving to the senior team. Perales, Enriqueta’s assistant, is a former striker whose career ended early through injury, and stays on in the assistant role.

Squad: This is a longlist of 32 players. It can generally be assumed the players number 1 – 11 will start, 12 – 23 be matchday squad reserves, and unnumbered players be back-up reserves, and that there will be a certain amount of rotation. So long as you’re sensible and unless I’ve RPed otherwise, you can RP my team lineup with some variation.
  • Men and women play together in Montaña Verde. To avoid pronoun confusion, female players are marked in pink.
  • The league is fairly new as a result of restructuring following independence, but many of the clubs date back decades and have entrenched traditions and rivalries.
  • Fútbol is a tremendously popular sport in the country, rivalling Catholicism for the national religion, but limited overseas exposure means the standard is not especially high.
  • Speaking of not being especially high, Montaña Verde is one of the shortest [human] populations in the world. While there are one or two tall players, in general men and women are very short.
  • Players are not egregiously dirty in terms of violence or deliberate fouling, but enjoy a good tactical dive now and then.
  • The bolded name or “nickname” should be used when referring to players and staff.
  • All players are domestic unless otherwise stated. While I normally conduct transfers through the Transfer Window, if you wish to sign one of my players they are usually available, especially if it links to an RP arc. Send a TG/DM to ask.

Goalkeepers:

1. Mateo Zayas Chavarría (28) – Scunthorpe de Puyevier
12. Héctor Sergio Dávalos (30) – Calequén
23. Rudolf Lazzaro “Dolfo” Mojica Parra (21) – Image Gunzlach
XX. Eduarda Escribano (25) – Sporting Mabar

Mateo is an aggressive sweeper-keeper, being willing to play out from his area, having a rather inflated assessment of his own footballing ability. Dávalos is a more traditional stopper who’s been around the domestic circuit for years without standing out for better or worse. Dolfo is lankier than either but very raw. As tall goalkeepers are few and far between in Montaña Verde his ascent has been rapid, but sloppy errors have seen him lose his place. He had an outstanding domestic season in Græntfjall and is hoping to regain the #1 jersey.

Right backs:

2. Leonilda Balderas Castiglione (25) – Calequén
14. Roberta Márquez Saldana (26) – Francisco Teixidó
XX. Juan Cazzalla Dengra “Zalladen” (24) – Requista Boys

Full backs in Montaña Verde tend to be judged on their attacking credentials first and foremost. Neither Roberta nor Castiglione are outstanding defenders, both being converted midfielders, but play in offensive roles for the two leading clubs in the country. Roberta is a relentless attacker, driving forward to whip in crosses, while Castiglione, who has a strong left foot as well, can cut in field and spread the ball around. Most people think Castiglione is the better player of the two, but her party girl reputation off the field has done her no favors in comparison to the solemn Catholic Roberta who crosses herself after every goal or assist.

Left backs:

6. Justin Pedroza Sierra (26) – Image Austin City
16. Juan Diego Lucián Juderías (21) – Sonreté

Justin is one of the best players in the team. His strong left foot has him at left back, but he’s capable of playing anywhere on the field. A skilful dribbler with all the playground tricks, and standing quite a bit taller than his teammates, he seems to tower over everyone except Osito. What tends to let him down is his attitude. He gets into arguments with the opposition, his teammates, the referees, the fans. He’s the living embodiment of “If you get into an argument with someone, they’re an asshole; if you get into arguments with everyone, you’re the asshole”. Juderías is much more of an orthodox left-back, a good defensive prospect with a great work-rate but lacking any of Justin’s pace or flair.

Center backs:

3. Arquímedes Hernández Velásquez (24) – Image Kyethas Rivermen FC
4. Jairo Villegas Balderas (30) – Calequén
13. Alfredo Tafalla (23) – Acharaque
20. Efraim Mariano García (24) – Requista Boys
XX. Angelina “Linara” Miralles Lacasa (30) – Sporting Mabar
XX. Moises Carvallo Palau (23) – América de Santa Margarita de Yacuija

In terms of footballing ability, the central defender corps is fairly strong relative to the rest of the team, but the main problem is physical. None of them are especially tall. Former captain Edelberto makes way for Arquímedes, who has good distribution skills and can bring the ball out well, while Jairo is a superb timer of tackles and can reliably clear the ball out – if it’s on the ground. If both of them are stacked end on end they’re almost as tall as one average international center forward. Tafalla and Efraim are good, busy workers but quite raw.

Holding midfielders:

5. Ana-Ximena Pareja Carvallo (25) – Image Concord Heights Suburban – Captain
15. Edgar Nieves Liñares (29) – Requista Boys
XX. Cristobal Elizondo “Cristo” Díaz (22) – Francisco Teixidó
XX. Román “Máno” de la Cruz (27) – Francisco Teixidó
Neither Ana-Ximena and Edgar are true defensive midfielders, instead more suited to playing more advanced roles, supporting a dynamic midfield set-up. Ana-Ximena isn’t as skilful on the ball as Edgar but has a higher work rate, impressing with her pressing, tackling, and physicality, and winning the start ‘5’ shirt once worn by former coach Enriqueta herself. Tactical shifts could see Edgar getting playing time alongside her anyway, as he’s a better passer. Cristo Díaz is a hard working presser who’ll run himself box-to-box offloading short passes and putting in the physical touch needed.

Wide midfielders:

8. Kristjana Eiríksdóttir (26) – Image Knetyohai
11. Valery Nazaret “Valentinha” Garrido García (23) – Image Northandryun Rovers
18. Sara Ariadna Nazario Alonzo (25) – Image Nowy Orpington United
21. Emma Narváez (25) – Francisco Teixidó
XX. Ángel Rafael Reyes Bregmann (34) – Francisco Teixidó

Don’t worry, not getting any puppet strings tangled here: Kristjana is 100% Verdean except for her name, reflecting her background in the tiny minority Græntfjaller population. She plays alongside Valentinha in the center, but they have different roles: she’s more of a speedster and uses her flying pace to whip out to the wings, while Valentinha will tend to drift into more of a central role, distributing and bringing the ball forward to open up rapid attacks. Valentinha is the more physical of the two, and a complex wannabe intellectual off the field to boot. Sara Ariadna is a bit of an enigma, not quite the pace of a striker but not quite the complete skills of a central midfielder, prone to some impulsive actions on and off the field. Emma isn’t as methodical in her passing as Kristjana but has great speed too. The experienced Bregmann is too old to be a regular player but remains a popular presence in the changing room.

Attacking midfielders:

10. Thomás “Primitivo” Ceballos Cantú (22) – Image Urrheddiao
17. Julia Pastora Rodríguez Varela (27) – América de Santa Margarita de Yacuija
XX. Orlando Pinto Margina (27) – Deportivo Launia

There’s nothing “primitive” about the play of the young midfield general, who this window left Scunthorpe for Urrheddiao. He’s being asked to play a little higher than he would for his club here, but the skilful Primitivo has earned it. Bigger than most of his teammates, his strong physicality can be deceptive as he has a silky touch off both feet. And watch out for his wicked curling strikes if there’s a free-kick in the vicinity of goal. Julia Varela is another very promising player. Small with great speed and balance, she can zig-zag in and out of defenses, but doesn’t put in the hard yards tracking back.

Forwards:

7. Teodosio “Osito” Orellana Cerda (21) – Image St Warren City FC
9. Thiago Rivas Montilla (32) – Image Fliserboding – Vice-captain
19. Naomí Berrocal Encarnación (24) – Image Concord Heights Suburban
22. Verónica Ximena González Saelices (24) – Francisco Teixidó
XX. Erick Fonseca (29) – Requista Boys
XX. Inhué Fernandino Indiano (22) – Sporting Mabar

The young Osito is a huge target man. It’s still not entirely clear he’s not two regular sized Verdeans wearing a trenchcoat. He’s mainly a goal-scorer, not all that good at assisting and rarely tracking back, but an obvious target for crosses and through balls. Thiago Montilla is a more rounded player without a really sharp finishing touch. He floats just behind Osito and just ahead of Primitivo to set up the attacks; he’s very short but powerful and stocky. Naomí Berrocal is a dynamic wing player who can run, pass, and shoot; Verónica Ximena is a fairly versatile 9/10 hybrid who can do a bit of everything without excelling in anything.

Updated finals roster

The 23-player squad for the finals is listed here

You are roleplaying against me, and you want to…

That’s fine. Three basic requests, then:
  1. My team’s name is Græntfjall. The adjective/demonym is Græntfjaller.
  2. Please do not use photographs of RL players and say they are my characters.
  3. Please do not commit acts of violence in my country or against my people, or have my people responsible for such.
Otherwise, you may do as you please.

Want another choice? Back to the top!

You’ve won 3 – 0 and want the match account to reflect that. Or you’ve lost 3 – 0 but want to make it seem like the scoreline wasn’t a fair reflection. Or you’re determined that you got the better of a 0 – 0 draw. All perfectly fine! Here are some guidelines:
  • Your players are probably faster and more skilful than mine. Clever tricks, smooth attacking moves, and sheer pace may often be successful.
  • My players are probably bigger and stronger than yours. I’d prefer you didn’t RP your team physically dominating mine, but of course you’re welcome to have some exceptions to this and win various match-ups.
  • If we didn’t score much, maybe Jason had an off-day and spent the game sulking in your penalty box. We’re very dependent on set-pieces: maybe Sara or Amanda were way off target with their shots and crosses.
  • If we conceded lots of goals, there may have been some howlers from the goalkeeper. Playing it out from the back usually misfires for us. Feel free to have an own goal or seven.
  • If you want your star player to do really well against us, that’s fine! My players should not be portrayed as miserably incompetent but otherwise you can construct any narrative you like around beating us – or deserving to do so.
Want another choice? Back to the top!

You’re down in the doldrums after a defeat and decide you want to portray us as much better. You feel guilty for winning and want to provide some balance. You like being the underdog and want to set up us being better so that when we meet again your victory will be all the sweeter. Or you’re just a masochist. Again, completely fine! Here are some suggestions:
  • My players are probably bigger and stronger than yours. We may have won the physical battle. Please don’t play us as brutally violent, but if you want to have us getting away with some rough stuff, especially from the center backs or defensive midfielders, that’s cool.
  • My players are probably not quicker or more skilful than yours. It’s unlikely we won through implementation of the beautiful game. Maybe Jason or Amanda or Sara had a crazy good day, but most of the time we’ll win through grind, determination, and sheer brute force.
  • If we scored a lot of goals, a lot of them probably came from set-pieces. Direct or indirect free-kicks, big fellas heading in corners.
  • If we kept a clean sheet, it was more likely a good collective defensive effort than a great day for our keeper.
  • We won’t blatantly cheat, but things like home crowd favoritism influencing the referee are acceptable.
Want another choice? Back to the top!

You’re burned out on RPing 0 – 0 draws. You’re not that interested in football and mainly participate in the World Cup for world-building. You’re interested in my country and want to interact in a different way. Or you’re just up for a different type of RP. Very welcome! Here are some pointers:
  • Græntfjall’s political situation is friable, with the left-wing government struggling to get the sluggish economy to turn around, and public disquiet over immigration building into social tension. Maybe you’d like to invest in the country, or tell the story of a young hopeful travelling to Græntfjall. Perhaps you’d like to support our right-wing parties as they recover from a disastrous election. So long as you don’t godmode the state of the nation, feel free to get involved!
  • Græntfjall is a modern, commercial trading nation with three very busy port cities. We’ve also recently built a new cosmodrome. Perhaps you’d like to negotiate a trade deal, buy some commercial spaceflight time, or arrange tourist visa reciprocity?
  • Græntfjall is currently withdrawing from military operations in Montaña Verde, but it remains watchful of the combustible political situations in Jabal Akhdar, Berdeng Bundok and Mlima Kijani, with one eye on the rise of Islamist terror cells – and one eye on the rich oil fields. Or maybe there are situations in your own sphere of influence. From an officer exchange program or joint exercise to negotiating an arms treaty or sabre-rattling over lines a map, some geopolitical-military worldbuilding is always welcome.
  • Your tourists might visit our country for the football match, but that only lasts 90 minutes. During the rest of their stay, they might enjoy music: Græntfjall has a strong operatic tradition while in more modern music, metal is massively popular, there’s a big folk revival, and G-pop, dream-poppish synth-influenced baroque pop, has its audience. Perhaps some different sports appeal more: basketball is surging in popularity and ice hockey remains the main national winter sport. To the south, the mountains offer year-round skiing, climbing and kayaking. Or check out the GS SuperSports+ thread for some minor sports opportunities.
  • Failing that, just make a joke about krakens.

Team name: Græntfjall
Trigram: GRÆ [GRF when not available]
Demonym/adjective: Græntfjaller
Team nickname: Snow Wolves

Coach: Image Igrene Cantor
Assistant coach: Image Torsten Oliversson

Brought in as replacement for Yue manager Kang Guilin after two cycles of decent football but no forward progress, Igrene Cantor saw immediate success by leading her charges to the Cup of Harmony title, though she was generous in giving Kang much of the credit. Fully in charge of the squad for the first time at the Cup of Rushmori, she was unable to improve on the now habitual Round of 16 exit and thus enters this tournament on very mildly thin ice. That said, Cantor seems to have fitted into the Græntfjaller system fairly well and the squad has responded to her no-nonsense style. Torsten Oliversson has put the “assistant” in “assistant manager” for several cycles and continues to do so, his duties seeming to involve more picking up plastic cones after practice is over and translating Nepharim profanities than actual tactical insight.

Squad: This is a longlist squad pool, from which each matchday a 23-person squad will be drawn. In practical terms, the player listed first at each position is most likely the starter, second the substitute, third and lower the non-playing reserve, etc. However, if I have not specified the squad or lineup, you may choose from this squad as you see fit in terms of RPing the team you play against. Græntfjaller teams usually start those wearing 1-11, but there are a couple of exceptions: if Hanne starts, she will wear 14; Tom 17; and Álfar 19. No numbers are retired and the starting goalkeeper will always wear 1.
  • The Græntfjaller Premier League is gender-mixed and it is seen as uncontroversial for men and women to play alongside each other. -son names are men, -dóttir names women, -bur names gender-neutral (they/them/their). If you find female players immersion breaking, you have my permission to choose an all-male side from the squad.
  • The financial status of football in Græntfjall is improving, and million+ NS$ contracts are increasingly common. Because the GPL isn’t especially strong, most NT players and hopefuls ply their trade abroad. I normally conduct transfers through the Transfer Window but if you have a desire to sign a player and a particulary storyline in mind I may be open to arranging a transfer outside that; send a TG/DM.
  • In general, Græntfjaller players are athletic and have excellent whole-match fitness, disciplined, and not prone to violence or emotional outbursts. They are, however, not tremendously skilled. The stereotypical Græntfjaller player is a BFG, Big Fucking Græntfjaller, with big referring to their body, not their brain. The main exceptions are Jason (strong and fit but also fairly skilled, but a bit headstrong and moody); Amanda (skilful, emotionally balanced, but lacking in size and strength), and Sara (incredibly fast and athletic, with every skill and then a few she invented herself, but a completely wild, mercurial temperament).
  • Græntfjall did not traditionally appoint a designated captain, and instead had the starting XI elect a captain before each captain, but this tradition has largely been abandoned, Hjörleifur Reynarsson being named as the new captain and Emeli Vilbertsdóttir reverting to vice-captain. Should both be injured, suspended, or otherwise absent, they will default to an elective model, and if I have not specified a captain, you may pick should you wish.
  • Timing note: In my timeline this occurs 2 years after the last WC/CoH, 1 year after the CR, and a few months after the Eagle’s Cup, Under-18 World Cup and Di Bradini Cup. It occurs after the completion of Transfer Window 32 and during the next season of the GPL; any players on foreign teams will be assumed to be given leave.

Goalkeepers

GK: Björnólfur Ernestisson – Image AK Stanimir (caps: 31) (goals: 1)
GK: Gabríella Hárlaugsdóttir – Image Southrons-Errant (11)
GK: Fabian Snæþórsson – Image Rosbank Town (9)
GK: Mikkel Rúnarsson – Image Þingsnitz uncapped

Long groomed as the goalkeeper of the future, Björnólfur began winning regular starting caps during World Cup qualifying, not always with great distinction. However, he kept excellently during the subsequent Cup of Harmony and went over 500 minutes without conceding (until Mytanija demolished him in the semi-final, but as the Snow Wolves won, no one really noticed). His physical attributes (impressive size and wingspan, massive boot on clearances, excellent hands in the air) mean he retains the #1 jersey despite some occasional communications issues with his back-line. He is the only Græntfjaller goalkeeper to have scored in international play, but his use as an extra BFG target at corners should be strictly limited to last minute elimination stakes scenarios. Playing it out from the back is not common in Græntfjaller football but as the team looks to improve their possession, Gabríella’s lack of confidence with the ball at her feet has prevented her winning more caps; as a pure shot-stopper, though, she is a more than capable replacement option and is generally regarded as a better pure goalkeeper than Björnólfur. Recalled after a spell of international oblivion thanks to the failures of Christian Einvarðursson and Kauko Jorgesson, Fabianwas once looked on as the next big thing in Græntfjaller goalkeeping, but has faded from the light a bit. He’s still carved out a competent career overseas, which is more than be said for the various domestic failures who have cycled through the #1 shirt since the departure of Alexander Leonardsson. He should not be needed, but if he is, can probably do a job, or at least fail in a way that will prove suitably hilarious. The lanky Mikkel is, it is to be hoped, strictly here for experience, as being regular first team keeper would interfere with him finishing his teenage growth spurt.

Full backs

LB: Emeli Vilbertsdóttir – Image Altendalur (98) (3)
RB: Elektra Lúthersdóttir – Image Yeaddin Owls (57) (3)
RB: Michelle Matteosdóttir – Image Estdal (20) (2)
LB: Eir Bjarnfinnursdóttir – Image FK Metall Jarnstad (8)
LB/CB: Arinbjörn Markusson – Image Mühlrich (14) (1)
RB: Christian Asvardsson – Image Korsbach uncapped

The shift to a narrower midfield and abandonment of specialist wings has left the full backs as perhaps the most important players on the team in terms of providing width while still fulfilling their defensive duties. Emeli led the team at the Cup of Harmony, but despite their success she didn’t enjoy the experience of leadership or being in the limelight and has returned to the vice-captain role. Probably the team’s best, or at least most rounded, defender. While she is not a true wing back she can provide cover going forward, has scored the odd well taken goal, and can be a lockdown defender on the opposition’s right flank. She has played on both sides in the past but is now mainly a left back specialist. Indiscretions from CoH78 continue to haunt her and fans can occasionally be seen waving [non-sentient] kettles or irons. Don’t ask. Capable of playing in advanced positions and putting in crosses, Elektra is nonetheless a defender first, which is why she has generally been preferred to more attacking wing-back options. Known for her habit of violently vomiting before every game, she has struggled with injury worries over the last couple of years, but when fully fit, has probably been the best right back Græntfjall has produced at a position that has seen more turnover than most. Occasionally chips in with a good corner kick as she is little threat in the air; for a full back, she is surprisingly poor at throw-ins. More of a true wing-back than Elektra, Michelle’s pace and crossing ability have seen her become a regular for the Ducks. She plays for one of the worst defensive teams in the GPL, meaning her occasional defensive lapses are either overshadowed by everyone else behind her being equally incompetent, or hidden by the blame being spread around, depending on your perspective. A wing-back who won’t let you down defensively, it’s Eir’s final touch that sometimes lets her down in making the key cross or pass. She is probably above the more defensively solid Arinbjörn based on the role.

Note about gender: Christian is mainly included to be used in an all-male team against teams that object to female players. He should not be expected to feature otherwise.

Center backs

CB: Hjörleifur Reynarsson – Image Steinaux (67) (9)
CB: Stefan Jokulsson – Image Gladerial United (16) (1)
CB/RB/DM: Tom Ernestisson – Image SW Stahlberg (33) (2)

CB: Arinbjörg Björnsdóttir – Image Gunzlach (11)

Center back is the team’s traditional strength. There’s huge competition at the center back position and lots of talented youngsters are likely to be given a chance to shine. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king and in Græntfjall, the land of BFGs, the center back with even passable footballing skills enjoys similar renown. Hjörleifur is not the best footballer in the world, but his above-average passing and confidence on the ball married to his outstanding size, fitness, leadership, and game knowledge, have led him to MVP honors in the GPL, and now, the long awaited captaincy. He is a true leader of men; he is an indefatigable warrior; he is a supreme athlete and a genuine offensive threat. He is also dumb as an especially dumb rock. His first-choice partner (also no brainiac) will be Stefan Folte, who has won the most coveted role in Græntfjaller sports by raising his hand highest. Literally. The biggest Græntfjaller name in the recent transfer window and the first to play in the Eternal Empire, the 6’9” “Folte Tower” is no beanpole, packing a solid frame to go with his prodigious height. As the Biggest of Big Fucking Græntfjallers, he excels at the physical side of things, with the football side of things coming as something of an afterthought, and has improved his fitness and goal scoring (with his head, at least; he doesn’t use it for much else). That leaves Tom Ernestisson as the unlucky perennial third man. At least his versatility (he’s seen playing time at right-back and as a defensive midfielder) ensures he still gets plenty of playing time. A well rounded defender who offers the occasional massive free-kick, he’s unlukcy not to have become the first choice starter, a role he will fill at least when they go to 3-at-the-back. Reidar has similar pretensions to versatility, which is a shame as if he concentrated on playing center back he’d be a force of nature, a massive wrecking ball with surprising speed for a man of his size. Given the wealth of young talent at this position, Arinbjörg’s name is a surprise inclusion, but the veteran provides a calm presence and plenty of gamesmanship with her experience. One such young talent is Grímúlfur, a powerful and athletic prospect with excellent aerial skills; Mathias (the only openly gay member of the team, if that sort of thing matters to you) used to be considered such a young talent, but has disappointed at international level and been outshone by his Gold Shrews teammate.

Defensive midfielders

DM: Álfar Ásvaldursson – Image Marlesee 97 (60) (4)
DM: Valtter Marvinsson – Image Haïtiens uncapped
DM: Benoný Ísarrsson – Image Star of Confederation uncapped
DM: Kauko Arvidsson – Image Alnio uncapped

Græntfjall have increasingly abandoned specialist wings and instead played four central midfielders: they set up as a 1 – 2 – 1 “narrow diamond”, but there’s plenty of flexibility. That means some of the old destroyers at DM are out of fashion, most notably Kalle Bjørnsson, whose international career has ended much as it begun, with him unable to open the door to the room where the selectors were meeting. Despite a few injuries over the last couple of years, Álfar remains the first choice for the holding midfield role. A powerful physical presence in central midfield, lacking the pace or touch of a quality attacking option but still far more complete as a footballer than the brutish defensive midfielders the Snow Wolves used to favor; if he can stay on the park for 90 minutes, he should be an important contributor. Valtter, Kauko and Benoný are being groomed as replacements; all are pretty raw but have good physical attributes, with Valtter the best rounded of the three in terms of all-round skills and Benoný the closest to the old BFG archetype.

Central & attacking midfielders

The all-female midfield core that won the Cup of Harmony are taking their show on the road. Amanda is the focus of the team’s offense. She started young, meaning her career is now as long as anyone’s, and twice as frustrating. She seemed to have found her niche under Kang, who used her as an attacking midfielder or even a second striker rather than having her sit back in the deeper lying roles for which she’s not physically suited. Always regarded as a system player, she’s still a good one, and has developed into a very dangerous free-kick specialist. Sara is a special talent, the most naturally talented footballer the country has ever produced, and has finally managed to put it together at international level after disappointing before after finding her niche with Wirr Tsi at club level. While she prefers a more solo attacking midfield role, she’s developed into a fine left-sided midfield. Her maverick playmaking touch can get away from her at times. But expect her to make an impact; whether positive or negative is a much more unknown propositio. Johanna is very much the anti-Sara: an organized, composed team player who does what is asked without complaint. She saw frustratingly little playing time over the last two years despite emerging as the clear best attacking midfield option behind Amanda, but became a regular, and key, member of the team during the Cup of Harmony campaign by shifting out to play on the right midfield. She has the skills to take the ball inside, too: like Amanda, she is smaller and quicker than most Græntfjaller players, with a good eye for goal and fantastic long passing. The main knock on her seemed to be just that, that she is injury prone and brittle; she’s worked on her fitness and conditioning to add a more physical edge to her game. These three, just, edge out the unlucky Jade, who is to the midfield what Tom is to the defense: always the next name on the teamsheet. Like him, she is sometimes overlooked despite generally performing well when picked, perhaps because her best position is slightly unclear. She’s played in central roles, both holding and attacking, and seems best suited to the demands of the former, breaking up tackles without the blunt force trauma associated with BFG DMs of years past, and distributing well with incisive long passes. Natasja is a grafting central midfielder who won good notes for her play at the Eagle’s Cup, Natasja has also exhibited a potent scoring touch when given the chance. Her exodus to Cassadaigua was slightly surprising, but there is a chance she will move on if she can make a name for herself in blue-and-white. The crowded central midfield makes that a difficult proposition, though, and she is a step behind Johanna on the ladder. Tinni is more of a BFG, and an incredible free-kick specialist. Kæja is the most talented young player in the country, a skillful passer who lacks a bit of size; Noah is, bizarrely, the most decorated club footballer in national history thanks to Kitara AA, but has never played for the NT; Kjárr and Hallberg are hardworking box-to-box men.

Note about gender: Hallberg is mainly included to be used in an all-male team against teams that object to female players. He should not be expected to feature otherwise.

Update about Amanda Amanda has returned to the squad and regular selection.

Wings

RW/LW: Lana Mensdóttir – Image Dí Maozöxê (42) (1)

RW: Robin Harrysson – Image Urbizinia Wanderers (21)
LW/CM: Ari Hlynursbur – Image Ituraitz FC (5) (1)
RW: Vanessa Marvinsdóttir – Image Steinaux uncapped

Wingers zipping up the lines and whipping in crosses for assorted big targets used to be key to Græntfjall’s system, but have fallen out of fashion as Cantor opts for a narrower midfield. Lana has always been more of an assister than a scorer, which is partly why her name slipped from automatic selection to the reserves bench to missing the Cup of Harmony entirely: 1 goal in 42 games couldn’t keep pace with some of her flashier rivals. But she’s a capable contributor who can cover either wide role, provide incisive passes, and frustratingly miss easy shots on goal from a wide range of field positions. The versatile Lana and free-kick ace Hanne still feature in the plans, but not on the first page. The emergence of Amanda, Sara K and Tinni as free-kick artists has somewhat diminished Hanne’s importance, as have her frequent injuries and controversial, outspoken off-the-field activities. She’s played as a left-wing and a second striker, more in the former role for country, and despite occasional defensive lapses, provides generally good service up and down the flank, marrying pace to precision crossing.

Forwards

CF: Jason Þórhallursson – Image Herzegovina City (88) (62)
CF/SS/RW: Eiríka Jonathansdóttir – Image Starling (37) (7)
CF/SS: Petter Erlingsson – Image Steinaux (6) (4)

CF/SS: Lilly Wolfgangsdóttir – Image Grande Mountain (13) (4)
CF/SS: Julia Wolfgangsdóttir – Image Char Sara FC uncapped
CF: Ásvarður Bergmundursson – Image St Astons City (29) (8)
SS: Justiina Dannysdóttir – Image Crossroads (63) (15)

Jason has adapted well to the move to a lone striker system. Tall and powerful, he’s not the quickest or more skilful striker in the world but he’s probably the strongest, and can hold an attacking role without needing a second striker to play off. A natural goal scorer, the main knock is his tendency to hot-headed aggression or sulking apathy when things aren’t going his way. He’s back from a controversial drugs ban and an even more controversial covert mission to rescue a princess [sic], and seems to have regained the team’s affection, if not quite their trust. After a difficult start, Eiríka seems to be adjusting to the Zenith, and crucially, scoring goals, something she hasn’t always managed at international level on account of playing slightly out of position. In fact, most of these players are natural center forwards forced into support striker roles if they want to get playing time alongside Jason. Lilly was a surprise pick for the Cup of Harmony given her struggles at Gunzlach; she repaid the faith with goals in the quarterfinal, semifinal, and final. She is a tiny, speedy, poacher, specialized at racing in to score cheeky goals, but rarely having a legitimate chance of starting at striker in the BFG-heavy set-up of yore. The Cup of Harmony heroine appears out of favor and may end up losing her place to her younger sister; Lara impressed enough at the Eagle’s Cup to be given a shot. A good finisher with a nice turn of pace. Ásvarður is a reliable BFG goal merchant. A much more traditional Græntfjaller striker, he is basically here as a straight sub for Jason, with less skill. What he does isn’t pretty or clever but it can be mighty effective, smashing in goals with head, foot and arse with equal abandon. He’s proven a useful impact sub and can hold up the defense to allow an extra body to drift back, but if he’s starting, it’s a sign the pretty tactics have failed and route one football is back on the table. Justiina is ageing out of the side but has been a valuable contributor for many years. Absent her usual strike partner, she had an even bigger job at the Cup of Harmony and performed strongly despite not asking in a glut of goals. Concerns about her lack of size and her tendency to get injured have held her back from ever being considered a number one for the national team. And Petter, surprising everyone by suddenly joining the side, has looked, as ever, the consummate professional. But how long will it last?

Update about Petter: Petter Erlingsson has retired from international football and will not feature in further games.

Barunia Suns
World Cup 89 Squad

After a shocking qualifying campaign in the last World Cup, coach Rafael Barrios was shown the door. The Sargossan has the dubious honour of having the shortest career of any Barunian coach, and also is the only coach to never have gotten the Suns to a world cup. Replacing Barrios as head coach is Liesel McLelland. McLelland was a long-serving member of the national team, a vice-captain, and also captained the team during World Cup 81. Add to that an excellent coaching record with the Southern Bluebirds in the domestic X-League and a run to the quarterfinals in Cup of Harmony 80, and hopes are high for McLelland's tenure.

As to the team itself, there have been only a few changes. Louise Cartwright takes over the captaincy from Neville Swan, who has indicated this is likely his last tournament. A few players have left the team: Antonio Mendoza retired, Stafani Obando did not put her name up for selection, and Tyler Adlington was ruled out due to poor form. That leaves Juliette Whistler to cover the crucial defensive midfield position, and she'll have help from the Bluebird's own John Pierce, while Mendoza is replaced by youngster Lewis Brooker. Exciting Trinity Reds player Anthony Vera also joins the midfield as part of an experimental formation change.

Sevendian roster for World Cup 89

What is a Sevendia?
Good question. Sevendia is a small, seven shaped country in Sonnel. At about 777,777 inhabitants, it isn’t a big or relevant nation. Sevendia rarely joins international sports, possibly because international sports don’t involve enough sevens to their liking. Everything is 7 in Sevendia. This is not an over exaggeration.

RP permissions:
This is a meme puppet. Do whatever floats your boat. Kill ‘em, ‘slice em, dice ‘em, make them a farmer in remote Ko-oren, I don’t care. Go have some fun.
Style mod: +7 (pls input a +5. I know, I know. Just do that.)

Roster:

Coaching staff:
Seven-Seven Seventy-Seven (49)
The coach with the admittedly non-ideal name is responsible for all of the team. There are no other coaches. Due to the complexity of his name, he is mostly referenced as “91”. He also got 14 wins with the baseball team at the WBC50, 13 wins at WBC52, and led the football team to 4th place at the 7NC, and led the Rugby Sevens team to second place in the Bowl. Yes, he coaches these teams too.

Starting formation:
Image
GK #7 Sebastian-Seven Proven
He is a reasonably decent goalkeeper. Like, not really good, but okay, I guess. Has a weird habit to stand 7 meters away from the goal when the team has the ball.

CB #7 Severin-Seven Sjeven
He is the best defender in the formation, which probably isn’t a surprise there, but oh well. Gets overwhelmed sometimes, not actually really good.

DM #7 Seattle-Seven Badven
Badven is literally the worst player in the team. Like, by far. He is absolutely crap. Probably wont even hit the ball if he tried, can’t hit the ocean if he fell of a boat.

CM #7 Seth-Seven Joudlven
He is definitely better than Bedven, but also really bad. Counters are a big weakness for Sevendia. Certainly, the formation has nothing to do with that.

RM #7 Serge-Seven Fomeven
Serge is actually somewhat okay at football. Not good, of course, but he occasionally actually gets a good pass in or something.

RW #7 Selleck-Seven Loveveven
This guy does not, meanwhile. Another one of the guys where no one knows how they even made the roster. Just no.

SS #7 Sergey-Seven Vanven
He’s sorta okay. Like, he isn’t good or anything, but in the context of the team, he gets the job done.

SS #7 Seton-Seven Heaven
Heaven may be the second best player in the team, as he actually might score some goals or get a pass in. One of the worst team players tho, almost never passes.

SS #7 Sean-Seven Raven
This guy’s the best player of the squad. He can actually play some football, and will probably shoulder most of the scoring. How he learned how to play, we’ve got no idea.

SS #7 Selby-Seven Braven
Braven is okay I guess. Like all of the players, he can use his height occasionally, but meh.

LW #7 Severus-Seven Magicven
Not a good player either. The way he misses on chances is almost out of this world.

Bench:
GK #7 Sevan-Seven Jeven
UT #7 Septimus-Seven Draven
UT #7 Seryoszha-Seven Even
UT #7 Selwin-Seven Sighven

If you want to have any Sevendian players for your domestic teams (yikes), they are all available at request (but why would you want that).

Things you probably should know

All (adult) people in Sevendia are seven foot. Always.
In every sentence, people currently being in Sevendia are required by law to use all the letters of the word seven (e, n, s, v) in every sentence they say.
The answer is always seven. The question is also always seven.
Everything that could theoretically be seven-shaped is seven-shaped.
Everything that can’t be seven-shaped is also seven-shaped.
All objects are required to have a 7 on them, including everything.
Seven.

The Stadium

Seven Stadium(77,777)
For most games, the stadium isn’t remotely close to being full. Seven, located in the capital (Seven) will host all of the games. This stadium is also built as close to the shape of a seven as they could get away with.

Good luck, and I’m sorry.

St Trinians is a matriarchal anarchy. The society is completely lawless, and the monarch, or Matriarch, rules by the principle of "Might is always right", a phrase that appears in the national anthem. There was a lot of politics involved in deciding the team for their debut in World Cup 88, with the Matriarch herself eventually choosing the 23 players. Such was their success that the same players have been chosen with little fighting.

St Trinians' national motto is "Get your blow in first", and the team will follow this philosophy. Relentless attack is the order of St Trinians football, and the team employ a 2-3-5 strategy which attempts to overwhelm the opponent with constant shots on goal. As true anarchists, St Trinaisn' players have little regard for rules, personal safety, or the right of other players to not be carried off on a stretcher. Expect fouls, injuries, and cards galore.

Tall and athletic, Becket is probably the best player on the team in terms of pure skill. That's a good thing, as she'll get little help from her defenders. Always serious, Becket will be one of the few St Trinians players unlikely to receive a card. She has become one of the team's poster girls, and when not goal-keeping, she serves in the St Trinians Army Reserve.

2. Dottie Carmichael
With her teased hair and facial piercings, Carmichael's appearance screams alternative. While she might be small and shy, she makes up for it with an almost psychopathic aggressiveness and a tendency to know just where a person's weak spots are. Carmichael knows just about every dirty trick in the book and is not afraid to use them.

3. Nonie Swindlehurst
Big, solid, and mean, Swindlehurst employs a simple approach to defence: run through the opponent. And if that doesn't work, break their jaw. Intimidating anywhere on the field, her presence in a crowded box becomes terrifying. Nonie is the most likely player on the team to pick up a red card, and that's saying something.

4. Frankie Tipton
Tipton is a hyperactive ball of energy that always seems to be in the best of spirits. It's unclear how much of that is natural and how much is due to the recreational drugs she frequently takes. What is clear is that this restless energy means she is perfect for the holding midfielder role as the first line of defence and the start of attack.

5. Miracle Butler
Miracle is from an upper-class family, and is a social media star. Her presence on the team was paid for, the Matriarch receiving a large sum of cash. Miracle hopes this will pay off in the form of an uptick in her followers, which is all she seems to care about. With training she has become a passable midfielder, but certainly not world class.

6. Essie Gardner
Don't let the outlandish makeup and bright hair fool you, Gardner has an evil streak. She knows all the dirty tricks, and she's not afraid to pull them out. From Galloway, a city known for its often brutal gang violence, it's quite possible that Gardner has the highest kill count of any of the team.

7. Temperance Porter
Porter is one of two captains for the side. She is a highly-talented footballer with clinical passing skills and a decent right boot that has made her an excellent choice to lead the team. She also has serious anger management issues, and will lash out if provoked. During the Baptism of Fire, she managed to get sent off before the match began when she punched her opposing captain in the face.

8. Ilsa De Grandhomme
Of the many upper class girls on the team, De Grandomme is undoubtedly the highest on the ladder, as it were. and the most well-connected. Her naming as co-captain is seen by many as a favour to her mother, a personal friend of the Matriarch. She's not without talent though, and will send in many crosses into the box. Also likely to take free kicks from range.

9. Elisabeth Speight
Born to a low-class family on the mean streets of Galloway, Speight's inclusion shocked the upper-class establishment. Speight was chosen by the Matriarch herself after footage emerged of Elisabeth taking penalties in a school match. However, she has earned the admiration of the entire nation by playing a game in the Baptism of Fire with a broken rib. Apart from being tough, she is also the most accurate striker on the team, and will be the penalty taker.

10. Alyson Granger
Granger is at centre forward for one reason and one reason only: shock value. A tall, strong woman, Granger dominates in aerial contests. It helps that she has an accurate header as well. Her approach to goalscoring is just to kick the ball as hard as possible in the direction of the goal. Shots from Granger are best described as rockets.

11. Poppy Appleton
The exact opposite of Granger, Appleton is the youngest player on the team. Arguably the brains of the team, her skills lie more in running circles around defenders and pouncing on loose balls (always a possibility with Granger on the team).

Coach. Amy Pepperpot
Amy had no previous experience with football when she was named as coach by the Matriarch. A loyal servant of the queen, Amy had been a negotiator, meaning her role was to navigate the murky waters of St Trinians' politics and achieve outcomes that didn't involve thousands of people killing each other. Those skills proved handy in keeping the 23 players from doing the same, and Amy has fallen in love with her new role. The Matriarch is pleased to see her continue in it, and so Amy once again takes up the unenviable task of making these lawless ladies obey the rules.

Stadium: National Stadium, Searle. Capacity 25,000.
The National Stadium was built specifically for St Trinians' entry into the World Cup. It is a significant upgrade to the stands and grounds of Walmsley College, one of the richest colleges in St Trinians. Located in the nation's capital of Searle, the new stadium seats 25,000. After an incident in their first home game that saw an armed pitch invasion and an opposing player being shot, security at the ground has been provided by the Royal Army of St Trinians.

Banija National Team- The Kadongo Kamu

Information
Country code: BNJ
Denonym: Banijan(s)
Association: Royal Banijan Soccer Association(RBSA)
Nickname: The Kadongo Kamu
Manager: Marcus Waters, 59 years old, native of the Equestrian States. Took over the interim manager role after Matchday 9 of World Cup 80 Qualifying; became the full-time manager at the end of that World Cup Qualification campaign.
Senior Assistant Manager: Kausu Gassama. 52 years old, Banijan native. George Wangolo, the former assistant manager, has left after the team's World Cup 86 title to go and become the senior manager for the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. That will leave Kausu Gassama hired as the new senior assistant manager. He started in this position ahead of AOCAF LXII. It is a prestigious position in Banija- the RBSA traditionally chooses the Senior Assistant manager, to be the head coach/manager for the youth national teams, and there is no exception in this case. He was the senior assistant manager at Istria City FC the past two seasons, where the club in Banija's biggest city reached new heights, winning the League and then following that up by winning the AOCL.
Captain: Mzukisi Nzo
Alternate Captain: Idai Uster
Home Kits: Green
Away Kits: White
Alternate: Orange

Brief National Team History
The Kadongo Kamu have played in exactly 506 games, as of the beginning of World Cup 89 Qualifying. This will be our 16th World Cup cycle overall. We have entered in 13 previous World Cup Qualification campaigns(WCQ73, WCQ74, WCQ75, WCQ76, WCQ77, WCQ79, WCQ80, WCQ82, WCQ84, WCQ85, WCQ86, WCQ87, and WCQ88), and have made 9 consecutive World Cup Finals appearances(WC80-88). We have also participated in Baptism of Fire 60, and been a participant in three different Cup of Harmonies(CoH 66, CoH 67, and CoH 71). In three Cup of Harmonies, Banija has never once moved past the group stage in the competition, and in their lone Baptism of Fire, they earned a lone point.

After not competing at all during the World Cup 78 Cycle due to the RBSA's bankruptcy, they re-entered the world of international football in World Cup 79 cycle. A shocking World Cup 79 Qualification campaign saw them on the brink of qualifying, but the team simply ran out of gas and lost 4 of their final 5 matches to not make it to Ceni/Drawkland. Since then, the U21 team got 3rd place at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup, and the national team advanced to the quarterfinals of AOCAF LV, AOCAF LVI, and AOCAF LVII, establishing themselves as a strong regional side, falling to the eventual champs in the latter two tournaments. They stunningly qualified for World Cup 80, after starting poorly by losing 5 of their first 9, to going unbeaten in the second half of qualifying, where they won 7 of those games. In the World Cup 80 Qualification playoffs, a 3-0 first leg victory in Montreal, Royal Kingdom of Quebec, powered the team through to their first ever appearance in the World Cup Finals, advancing to sport's pre-eminent competition 5-3 on aggregate over Mercedini. While a pair of one goal losses saw them eliminated after two games, they earned their first ever victory at the World Cup Finals in a 2-0 win over New Gazi in their final group stage game. As they hosted World Cup 81, they went directly to the tournament, and went to their first ever knockout stages, winning Group A before falling, 1-1(2-1 AET) to Turori in the Round of 16. They cruised to qualification in World Cup 82, maintaining a top two spot in their World Cup Qualification group behind Brenecia for the entirety of the World Cup 82 Qualification campaign, getting to the tournament with relative ease before bowing out in the group stages.

The World Cup 83 cycle was their strongest yet. Starting with AOCAF LVIII on home soil, co-hosted with the Commonwealth of Baker Park, the Kadongo Kamu won 6 consecutive matches to open the tournament, taking their winning streak all the way to the final. Unfortunately, they were felled, 4-2, at home to their archrivals, the Equestrian States. Co-hosting World Cup 83 as well, the Banijans made a miraclous run at the World Cup, upending 5th ranked South Covelllo on penalties, and defeating the then two-time defending world champions Vilita in the quarterfinals, before falling, 3-2, at the national stadium to Starblaydia. They added to the trophy case, however, earning a bronze medal after defeating Cassadaigua in the 3rd place playoff game.

The World Cup 84 cycle, the first with real title expectations for the Banijans, was a disappointment in the regionals, as we fell 1-0 to Ko-oren in the AOCAF Round of 16, although we advanced to the quarterfinals of World Cup 84 before dropping to Eura in extra time. The World Cup 85 cycle seems to be a promise of hope for the Banijans. Although AOCAF LX was a rough tournament for the Banijans, it was surrounded by two excellent tournament performances for the Banijans. We won the U21 World Cup(DBC 47), and are just coming off earning our first ever senior-level trophy, by winning the 8th Eagle's Cup to be admitted as a full, permanent member of the Eagle's Club right before the beginning of World Cup Qualifying. Following that, the Banijans dominated World Cup 85 Qualifying, going wire-to-wire as the first place team in their World Cup Qualifying group, as well as earning more points in World Cup Qualifying(67) than any other team did throughout the entire campaign. Those strong performances both in the Eagle's Cup and World Cup Qualifying have caused fans to put an up and down AOCAF behind them, and heighten the standard for World Cup 85. While they escaped the group stages with four points, strong wins over Vilita and Zwangzug in the knockouts put them on course for a medal, as they eventually beat allies Baker Park in the bronze medal match, after falling 3-2 to the eventual champions Free Republics in the semifinal.

After a return to the AOCAF LXI Quarterfinals, their first quarterfinal appearance in the last 3 editions of the regional championships, they fell to Chromatika on penalties. The World Cup 86 Qualification campaign went rather swimmingly- the national team went a perfect 18-0-0 in World Cup Qualifying, the first time that had happened in well over 10 cycles. The multiverse's #1 ranked squad was brimming with confidence, the two-time bronze medalists entering World Cup 86 trying to win the biggest trophy in all of sports for the first time.

Marcus Waters has always preached the following- "you've got to win at home before you can win the World Cup." It's always meant you've got to win in Atlantian Oceania before you can expect to win the World Cup. And while we've never won the AOCAFs, our group was all Atlantian Oceania sides- Ko-oren, Chromatika, and Mriin. We finished in first place with a 1-0 win over Ko-oren, a 2-2 draw against Chromatika, and a 0-0 draw against Mriin being enough to earn 5 points. Then, we faced a gauntlet of former World champions. A 1-0 win over them put us in our fourth consecutive World Cup Quarterfinal, against 5 time World champions Valanora. A thrilling 4-3 win put us in the semifinal, again facing a GSW rival- World Cup 84 winners Farfadillis. In one of the wildest World Cup semifinals ever played, Banija came out on top 7-6, with a stoppage time winner to put them in the Final against the World Cup 85 winners Nephara. It was a true game of the century- neither team had lost a competitive match since the start of World Cup Qualifying, neither losing during Qualifying or the Finals. And in that thriller, it would be the Banijans who would win, taking a lead and holding onto it, winning by 3 goals to 2 against Nephara to lift the trophy and declare themselves World Cup Champions.

The ensuing AOCAF was strong, but not as strong as they wanted it to be. After starting slowly and losing their opening two games, they finished well done the stretch of group play, and even won a pair of knockout stage games before eventually falling to the champions, Baker Park, in the Semifinals. The Banijans redeemed themselves by earning a bronze medal against Sarzonia. The team took a B squad to Eagle's Cup IX, but a strong performance there landed them a silver medal, losing in the final to Valanora. World Cup 87 did not go the way they expected, getting eliminated in the group stages for the first time since World Cup 82. But we recovered in the World Cup 88 cycle. While a quarterfinal elimination at both Eagle's Cup X and AOCAF LXIII were not great, we were unbeaten in World Cup 88 Qualifying, and reached the World Cup 88 Semifinals, eliminating the defending champions Nephara and falling to the eventual champions Turori along the way. We used that momentum of the semfiinal run to finally earn a regional title, as on our 10th try, we finally won the AOCAFs, defeating Hapilopper in the semifinals and Valanora in the Final, winning both matches via penalty kick shootouts. As reigning champions of Atlantian Oceania, there are high ambitions and hope for this squad entering World Cup 89 Qualifying.

List of National Team managers
1. Kizza Kabila(Banija). Manager for Baptism of Fire 60 and the World Cup 73 Qualification Campaign. Overall record of 0-14-1(W-L-D).

Kizza Kabila is the only Banijan to have ever managed the national team. Hired for Banija's first foray onto the international scene in this sport, his reign was universally derided as a disaster. Managing 15 games, he drew his first game in the Baptism of Fire, and not only lost the next two, he then lost ever single match in the 12 game World Cup Qualification campaign for World Cup 73, with the side only scoring 5 goals across the entire campaign. Unceremoniously fired after becoming one of few managers to go through an entire World Cup Qualification campaign without earning a single point, he, alongside the entire board of the RBSA, resigned after the last game. He was disgraced in the sport after the campaign, and, to this point, has never returned to top-level soccer.

2.Jan Cassallerus(San Llera): Hired before the start of the World Cup 74 Qualification Campaign, managed through the World Cup 77 Qualification Campaign. Overall Record of 27-32-16(W-L-D).

Banija put its eyes abroad, searching for a foreign manager before the World Cup 74 Qualification campaign, and found Jan Cassallerus. He is Banija's longest ever serving manager, being at the helm for four entire World Cup cycles, and being at the helm for 75 total games, a kind of longevity unheard of in the modern game, especially managing the national team. He started winning a game at the Coupe D'Esquarium, in what was known as the group of death. He was largely celebrated for bringing the team into relevancy. The expectations were through the floor, following Kizza Kabila, but he brought the team to Cup of Harmony 66 and Cup of Harmony 67, as well as advancing in Olympic Qualifying and getting third place at the United Valhaven Regional Football Championships. He was forced into retirement after the World Cup 77 Qualification campaign, when the RBSA declared bankruptcy, and could not participate in the World Cup 78 Qualification Campaign due to their inability to compensate players and staff.

3. Randolf Cherry(Drawkland): Hired before the start of the World Cup 79 Qualification Campaign. Overall Record of 20-24-2(W-L-D)

Randolf Cherry, after the RBSA got its act together, was hired- controversially- as the manager of the national team. Not that his own hire was controversial, it was applauded across the sports spectrum here at home. He was given a 3 cycle contract, and everyone knew what the goal was- to make the World Cup Finals at least once over the course of the contract. They understood that it would take time to climb the rankings, and they were willing to give him the leash. However, he came in a very awkward situation. Adama Sowe, the Chairman of the RBSA, allegedly first offered the job to Sarah Owens, out of the Equestrian States. Of course, it is illegal in Banija for women to coach men's professional teams, and that caused controversy. And yet, here he was- the manager of the national team.

His own home country of Drawkland is, of course, very progressive in that area, where the sport is dominated by the ladies. Regardless, he had an excellent start to his reign as a manger, and was initially extremely popular. He won his first game, in a special Eagles Club match, against Aggrey-Fynn Land. He lost his first few qualifiers, but he went on a dear through the middle of qualifying, which included a 7 game winning streak on home soil. Big wins against then 4th ranked Chromatika at home and then 32nd ranked Eshan, put them in the conversation of World Cup Qualification, though they were simply not strong enough.

The Cup of Harmony was considered a disaster, finishing in dead last in their group. The competition maybe simply isn't for the Banijans, eh? But they were strong throughout the offseason, making a surprising quarterfinal run in AOCAF LV and bringing high hopes to the squad going into World Cup 80 Qualification. Hopes were through the roof for the national team, maybe even bordering unrealistic. They struggled, and the campaign got worse as the pressure built, as the squad lost their final four qualifiers of the first half of qualifying. With the campaign seemingly in free-fall, he was fired, as the RBSA said they wanted time to conduct "an open, thorough, search."

4. Marcus Waters(Equestrian States): Hired after the 1st half of World Cup 80 Qualifying, present manager of the national team. Overall record of 245-78-47(W-L-D). All-time winning percentage of 66.22%. All-time points percentage of 70.45%.

Marcus Waters was the national team's assistant manager with Randolf Cherry above him, and the manager of the youth national teams. He first gained notoreity in Banija after successfully leading the U21 team to a 3rd place finish at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup. With his abilities clear, it made sense to move onto him as the interim manager as they searched for a permanent manager ahead of the second half of World Cup Qualifying. However, he was able to complete a stunning turnaround of this team. His first game in charge, he changed nearly the entire backline, and had a massive upset, away to Qasden, by a score of 3-2. A 3-0 victory over Razenthuria in the other mid-qualifying friendly got high hopes for him.

Marcus Waters went out with an intent to keep his team focused, despite everything going on at home. He has proven adept at navigating the political minefield that is this job, especially with his own country of origin essentially at war with Banija. He didn't lose a single game in the second half of qualifying, winning 7 games to get to the playoffs, including when the team was forced to play home games in Montreal due to ongoing violence within Banija. He was widely applauded for getting the team ready to play in Montreal, and winning 1-0 against Turori, the group's top seeded squad, and a 3-0 win in Montreal in the Qualification playoffs. While the RBSA interviewed four other candidates, his successful push through the World Cup Qualification playoffs and into Banija's first-ever World Cup Finals essentially clinched the job for him, as he put pen to paper to take the interim tag off of his title ahead of the 80th World Cup Finals.

Since then, of course, he has done a lot to garner the confidence of the higher-ups, and of the fans. Falling to the eventual champions in the quarterfinals of both AOCAF LVI and AOCAF LVII was widely seen as a positive. As well as, of course, a surprising Fourth Place finish in the Cup of Champions Six, highlighted by a surprising point earned in their matchup against Nephara, while also pushing through to the Round of 16 of World Cup 81, pleasing the home fans. A different sort of pressure faces him this campaign, however.

For the first time in his reign, you could say that Banija had a disappointing tournament, failing to advance in World Cup 82 beyond the group stages. It might be harsh to say that- on paper, advancing from a group with both Pasarga and Farfadillis is a tall order if your team is not Pasarga or Farfadillis. They responded well, however, winning six consecutive games at AOCAF LVIII, and knocking off major nations including Cosumar and Mriin at the tournament, before being felled in the final, in their own capitol of Busukuma, to Equestria. Following up with a World Cup on home soil, they continued that momentum forward from AOCAF LVIII, as the Banijans took on the role of giantslayers on home soil. They beat the 5th ranked South Covello side, and the then two-time defending world champions Vilita, before eventually falling to Starblaydia in the semifinals, though they still earned a bronze medal. Although momentum was blunted after a tough 1-0 defeat to Ko-oren that secured an early exit from AOCAF LIX, they followed that up with their second straight appearance in the World Cup Quarterfinals, where they fell to Eura in extra time.

The last two cycles he really got the team to rise above themselves. The last two World Cup Qualification cycles, Banija has finished as the best team in World Cup Qualifying by points earned. And he has the silverware to match- a bronze medal earned in World Cup 85, followed by a gold medal in World Cup 86. Having risen from basically nowhere in Equestria to household name status in Banija, he has truly made a name for himself as one of the world's premier international managers. While World Cup 87 was disappointing, he quickly ensured that was a one-off, rather than a sign of things to come. He brought Banija to their fourth World Cup semifinal in their past six tournaments at World Cup 88, and followed that up with winning the country's first ever regional title.

He's now been an Eagle's Cup champion, is the reigning AO champion, and a World Cup champion, all before age 60. Considering where Banija was before he took over, he's got to have the most job security in all of international football at this point, right? Barring utter and absolute disaster, he's gonna stay here as long as he wants to- be it one year or 20 more.

1. The Equestrian States. All time Banijan record against opponent- 0-7-2(W-L-T).

The Equestrian States are easily Banija's biggest rival, and by a country mile. It has all the makings of a good international sporting rivalry- plenty of matches played, history of competitive matches, geopolitical rivalry, player familiarity, and, of course, geographical proximity- all those boxes are checked. They've played each other 5 times, and Banija has come out on the losing end each and every time, most recently a 4-0 clobbering at the hands of the Equestrian States during Banija's final friendly before this qualification tournament began.

Three times have they played in competitive competition, and three times Banija has fallen. The Equestrian States eliminated Banija from Cup of Harmony 71 in group play, while also defeating the Banijans in both the opening match of World Cup 80, and the final group stage match of AOCAF LVI, though the Banijans still advanced to the quarterfinals of that tournament. The familiarity of players between each other is strong. Banija's present and most successfull all-time manager, Marcus Waters, is Equestrian. A number of players in each country play in leagues in the other. Famous Equestrian NT players like Aaron Aiza, Rosie Tyler, and Josef Lawrenz, ply their trade in the Banijan Soccer League, with Aiza particularly growing to superstar status while winning league titles at Herzegovina City FC.

Banija's first ever major final in this sport, at the senior level, was against none other than Equestria at the national stadium, with the winner to be crowned champions of AOCAF LVIII Final. In front of a decidedly pro-Banijan crowd, it was the Equestrians who dashed Banijan dreams of glory on their home turf as they picked up their first ever major international silverware, with a 4-2 victory. That victory has made the Banijans just that much hungrier to defeat their bitter rivals, and though the history is lopsided in favor of Equestria, that has just fueled the fire on this side of the matchup. The two sides co-hosted World Cup 83 together, and almost had a rematch of their AOCAF LVIII Final in the World Cup Final, though Banija could not fulfill its end of the bargain as they fell to a stronger Starblaydia side in the semifinals. Equestria, of course went on to win the World Cup, and the next AOCAF to boot, establish a fully fledged dynasty. The Banijans, in pre WOrld Cup 84 Qualification friendlies, got their first ever result against the Equestrians, a 0-0 draw in Everfree.

Equestria and Banija were in the same group at AOCAF LXII, with the opening match of the tournament being a repeat of the AOCAF LVIII Final. Banija, we thought, rising high and champions. But Equestria came to rain on the parade. They won on Matchday 1, by a score of 2-1 in Busukuma, and we could only manage a return draw. Our fiercest rivals, and yet, we've still never managed to have beaten them, in a competitive or a friendly match. That search for the elusive win against Equestria continues.

2. Farfadillis. All time Banijan record against opponent- 2-5-0(W-L-T)

What makes a good international rivalry? You need a mixture of history and luck. Luck, to have played in plenty of high stakes matches against each other on the biggest stages- World Cups, AOCAFs, and the like. But you also need nearness. What makes these two know each other so well? We've played in twice as many competitive matches against Chromatika as we have against Farfadillis.

Well, let's go with the political intrigue. Of course, there's geography- Farfadillis is the closest nation to Banija that does not share a land border with Banija. Their former capitol, is on the northern tip of their island, which is just south of Busukuma, the Banijan capitol city. So of course, there's that familiarity. And when the Farfadillis national government fell apart and they fell into some sort of a controlled chaos, many refugees fled Farfadillis for the stability of Banija. Busukuma became the natural landing place. There are no official numbers, but there an estimated 100,000 or so Farf refugees across the country, but with over half of them, around 60,000, residing in Busukuma.

So there's that familiarity on an intimate level, especially in Banija, and especially in Banija's capitol. Especially in the capitol, it's always a huge deal when these two meet. And besides that? Well, of course, we dropped a few nuclear warheads on Farfadillis, where Banija's nuclear weapons got both hacked and stolen by operatives. While, surprisingly, it didn't cause as much damage as one would expect, 5 nuclear weapons are still quite a bit to get hit by. Farf citizens weren't exactly appreciative, and that is fresh in everybody's mind.

Lastly, look at the integration of our footballing systems. We have a combined league. With the combination of our top flights in the Shango-Fogoa Premier League, Banijan footballing fans and Farf footballing fans interact every single week. Sometimes peacefully, sometimes violently, always loud and passionately. For two seperate nations(plus Busoga), they have a very integrated league system. And that, of course, will mean that the rivalry is played out every week. Banijan teams v. Farf teams. Farf teams got the better of their Banijan opponents, by and large, throughout the inaugural season, but there is still plenty left to say on the subject.

This is Banija's clear #2 rival, ahead of anybody else, besides Equestria. And as the S-FPL continues, this rivalry will continue to be competitive for years to come. Not to mention, the two have played a pair of thrilling World Cup Finals matches against each other- Farfadillis being victorious in World Cup 81, and then being victorious again in World Cup 84, where they went on to win that World Cup. What'd be more fun than another Finals matchup between these two juggernauts, right?

3. Chromatika. All time Banijan record against opponent- 7-3-2(W-L-T)

This is, admittedly, not the first nation you think of when you think of Banija's rivals. But There is a long-time history between these two nations. These two have more shared history than Banija and any other opponent, at least in competitive matches. Banija and Chromatika have faced off a grand total of 9 times competitively- all in the modern era of Banijan soccer, which is WCQ79-present. It was that first campaign back, after the RBSA bankruptcy, where it was established.

Banija had one of their biggest ever all-time wins in that Qualifying campaign, our first ever win over a top 5 opponent, when we beat then #4 Chromatika 2-1 in Jinja City. It's a night that has gone down in Banijan history. Looking back, many see it as Banija's first true launch towards where we are now- from a consistent middle of the pack nation in Qualifying, who couldn't do anything in the Cup of Harmony, to demanding a seat at the table by being an elite squad.

And we've played plenty of times since, as well. AOCAF LXI- we beat them in the group stages, only to fall to them in the Quarterfinals, on penalty kicks. We each got clean sheet victories over the other team at Eagle's Cup VIII, a tournament that we ended up winning. And we played them twice in World Cup Qualifying for 86, beating them twice en route to a perfect 18-0-0 Qualifying record. We played them again at the Finals, and we battled out a 2-2 draw.

They're a tough opponent, and considering the frequency of our matches in recent years, meeting up in the Finals would not be that unexpected. We know each other well, have played with plenty of stakes on the line. And, of course, there's those cultural and political connections that make the greatest international rivalries- a Banijan delegation, led by present Banijan Ambassador to Chromatika and former Banijan Minister of Justice, Xolile Lubabalo, helped shepherd Chromatika's transition to democracy. It's friendly, but there's plenty of history to make it interesting.

Honorable Mentions
Nations mentioned here are considered key rivals, but there is not enough competitive match history to really define it as a rivalry. Nations are not listed in order.

- Siovanija & Teusland(Geographic proximity, cultural + political ties)
- Valanora(geographic proximity)
- Royal Kingdom of Quebec(general history and close political/cultural ties- Banija is a former colony of Quebec and they have been close ever since)
- Sarzonia(General sporting rivalry, history with 3 AOCAF matches against each other, 2 World Cup Qualifying matches, and a World Cup Finals match)
- Baker Park(cultural plus political ties)

Select Player Bios

1. CM Mzukisi Nzo

Nzo is one of those Banijans who has essentially spent their entire careers abroad. Playing and starring in Taeshan for a number of years, he has essentially been a permanent fixture in the center of the Banijan midfield for a while. Marcus Waters tries all sorts of combinations next to him, to try and get that perfect central midfield pairing. But Nzo is one of the most talented Banijans on this team, and his spot is written in ink.

Nzo was young, of course, but now looks around and finds himself as a veteran. As the leaders of the World Cup winning generation take a step back, he is one of the last starters from that generation on this team. And now that gives the man who will give Kahara a real chase for Banija's international caps records the thing he has always wanted- the captain's armband for the first time. He had a lot of questions asked of him, but he answered them profoundly at the AOCAFs- playing well in route to captain the national team to their first ever regional title. Can he continue that form in World Cup Qualifying, and continue to serve in a mentorship role to his natural heir as Banija's star central midfielder, Gereh Kama?

2. ST Idai Uster

One of the national team's two star strikers who play up top. Idai Uster is unique among her teammates for this- instead of playing for a club and going professional at such a young age, she is the only Banijan(And remains so) in the post bankruptcy era(World Cup 79 forward) to play college soccer. Having played at Loyola-Istria for a single season, she was dominant as a freshman, meaning many thought that she made a foolish decision to play for them and not go play for a paycheck immediately. However, she got noticed by Marcus Waters, and got her first national team callup at AOCAF LIX.

Ever since then, she has been a fixture for the national team coming off the bench. No matter- the young female striker was quickly lapped up to go and play in the Schottic Premier League, and she had strong performances there. After playing in Schottia, she eventually hit the transfer market to go play for a massive club in the world's best league- and she was signed to wear the #9 jersey for AFC Treason in Nephara. To say that the signing paid off is an understatement.

Increasingly, of course, there is all sorts of competitiveness for spots on the national team. But as Ilman Jawara had a stranglehold on the starting striker role, Uster chose this past season to really explode onto the scene. 24 league goals in the last season of the Nepharim Premiership- good for third in the league, and more importantly, helped lead her team to a double, as they won both the Premiership and the Copa de Campeones. She played a starring role their as well, scoring a hat trick in the CdC Final to put them over the top.

Coming to the national team in top form, Marcus Waters faced a question- how could he not play her? But he didn't' dare mess with the lineup that he had. She was the first person off the bench, playing in all 7 games in World Cup 86 without recording a start. But no matter- even in limited time, she made her presence felt. She scored three goals, including the game-winning goal on Matchday 1 against Ko-oren, and scoring in the World Cup final against Nephara. But it begged the question more- for someone who was clearly hitting their prime, how could he afford to leave her on the bench?

Her performances caused Banija to full-time switch to a Back 3 for the first time ever, a switch that they have never looked back from. She's been a fixture in the starting XI since the World Cup 86 Final. In possession of the #9 jersey, she will look to be the prime focus of a multi-faceted attack from the Kadongo Kamu, as she looks to parlay regional success into success on the World stage.

3. ST Kausu Dione

And now, for the other starting striker. Ilman Jawara has been the main man up top for so long, the days of Assefa Yitebarke leading the front lines feel like an eternity ago. But all good things must come to an end, and at 35 years old, Jawara simply cannot be expected to be the #1 man up front for club and country. So he is relegated to the bench, with fierce competition upcoming to eventually replace him. But Kausu Dione has leapfrogged the pecking order, going from not making the roster for World Cup 87 Qualifying or the most recent AOCAFs, to take Cyper Baldeh's roster spot and land himself a starting role.

He's a world champion at two levels- a starter on Banija's U18 World championship team, and a starter on Banija's U21 world championship team. While Kadongo Kamu teammate Wanda Kouyate is the multiverse's only three-level world champion(U18, U21, Senior) Kausu Dione is going to go for a more impressive feat- become the first person to be a three-level world champion as a starter on every level, since Kouyate was only a starter on the U21 squad. He's got the regional title, making him one of the most decorated players in Banijan history. With this absolute terror of a striking duo, can they strike Banija's way to the FInals and a second World Cup trophy?

4. Idi Mboge

Mboge has the distinction of being the only Banijan to ever win the Cup of Harmony. How, one may ask? He probably has the most interesting career arc of any of Banija's players to play for the Kadongo Kamu. He was born to Banijan migrants in Maal, the capitol city of Mriin. So he grew up in Mriin, and played soccer in their youth system. But with a firm ceiling for human players in Mriin, he went to his country of origin when his parents realized that he was indeed good enough to go pro.

When he hit the scene in Banija's youth leagues, he was immediately a star, winning the player of the year award, and getting selected for Banija's U21 World Cup team at DBC 47. But his success there got the attention of higher-ups in Mriin. Why not get rid of that artificial ceiling? They sent him a late invitation to join the squad, to accept their call-up. The day before Banija's first game of DBC 47, he decided to leave Banija's U21 squad to play for his country of birth, Mriin. To say he faced criticism was an understatement. An unprecedented amount of vitriol for a dual-national, but when you consider the nature of him leaving(aka when the tournament was basically underway), it struck a lot of fans and players the wrong way.

From that point, he would go ahead and choose to play for Mriin's senior side. He was a key contributor to Mriin's Cup of Harmony winning side, giving him a major international trophy before they quit international sport. But with Mriin no longer sending out their national teams, that left only one option- for Idi Mboge to return. And he didn't, at least for a while. Last cycle, he was blackballed by Marcus Waters, who knew that his former teammates from Banija's U21 side still held a grudge. The entire World Cup 88 cycle, he wasn't invited. AOCAF LXIV? Please.

Then, the Olympics came around. U23- he's too old, right? But wait- three overage players allowed. So Marcus said, why not? Select Idi Mboge. The team got eliminated in the group stages. And then, Mboge went to the Eagle's Cup. Banija got a bronze medal at the Cup of champions. But Mboge showed enough to get called up to the A squad for World Cup Qualifying. How will his teammates react? Will fans accept him? The burning questions that must be asked. More importantly- if the reaction is negative, will he be able to handle the pressure? Or will it cause discord? A lot to talk about for somebody who's undoubtedly got the talent to contribute as an elite-level holding midfielder in front of the back 3 for this national team.

Zug um Zug is a recognized puppet state of Zwangzug, founded when the latter nation became "old enough to have its own account," whatever that means. It is unclear if they represent a serious geopolitical entity, a computer simulation run by bored teenagers posting train memes, or something in between. At least they have a colorful set of club names, though.

The team is all-female, and extremely defensive. Within each position, players are listed in rough priority order, but this isn't strict. Home stadium is the Colossal Arena, located in Snelling.

Goalkeepers:
Stephanie Guthrie (Duluth Wanderers) - captain
Ellie Banker (L'Enfant Rainbows)
Grace Spalding (Addison Reds)

Defenders:
Simone Guedira (Cluny Bronzes)
Crystal Langley (L'Enfant Rainbows)
Dindrane Emrys (Avalon Greens)
Adrienne Armstrong (Snelling Warriors)
Jacquelyn Queneau (Montparnasse Jeunes)
Shirley Gibson (Anacostia Greens)
Billye Steinfeldt (Addison Reds)
Marie Clavel (Cluny Bronzes)
Kiri Ouilme (Davis Purples)
Dorothy Deacon (Gallaudet Reds)

Midfielders:
Euphrasie Gauvain (Montparnasse Jeunes)
Noriko Scialfa (Duluth Wanderers)
Phyllis Gonzalez (Davis Purples)
Zhora Sepulveda (Westwood Cyans)
Lori Lehrer (Wabash Loopers)
Morgana Titan (Avalon Greens)
Andrea Rainier (Anacostia Greens)
Caitlin Little (Gallaudet Reds)

Forwards:
Josie Chadwick (Westwood Cyans)
Susan Nokomis (Snelling Warriors)
Sally Albert (Wabash Loopers)

If you RP first--anything goes, though I'd rather you not cause lasting harm to my players/in my country without running it by me first. But this is a silly puppet, so feel free to be absurd.

Manager: Image Sam Billic • Formation: 4-4-2

After a long wait, Mercedini are back in international action for the 89th World Cup, as the team attempts to make it back-to-back qualifications, this time to Tikariot and South Newlandia. Last time round, Mercedini made it back to the final thirty-two in Cassadaigua and Chromatika, which was the first time the nation had qualified in five editions of the tournament. Sadly for Billic and his players, Mercedini's terrible run of form at the tournament continued, with the Golden Eagles only managing to pick up one point in their final match, after already being eliminated. Thanks to that major boost in rankings, Dini now renew their hopes of qualifying for the multiverse's biggest sporting event and come into the tournament with a World Ranking of 33 and a spot safely in Pot 2. That means Dini can hold their seeding in the group to gain at least a qualifying spot. In their group, they will have only one team stronger than them on paper, but many teams beneath them looking to act as the banana peel and secure their own World Cup berth. With Mercedini's domestic league losing their second IFCF Champions League spot, there are thoughts that Dini's footballing prowess is slipping, but another solid run in the qualifiers could keep the nation in contention with the higher footballing powers. The Golden Eagles will be with nine other nations in an average World Cup schedule compared to previous editions, after all eighteen matches have been played, we will see whether Dini can still stand with the best of them.

GOALKEEPERS Name Age Club

GK Dmitrije Azar 25 Image Clayquot City

In the largest change to the goalkeeping roster for a while, seasoned international veteran Daniel Hosset does not feature in the qualifying roster, and has lost his #1 spot to Blue Strike's Frederick Wandai, who has led his club through the Mercedinian league system and to their first title in the most recent season. He is generally untested in competitve internationals, but his recent form as a substitute plus his domestic form has warranted a move up to the top goalkeeping spot. Vorsini and Azar both benefit from this shake-up, moving up a spot, but it's the young fourth choice which has surprised most people. Out of the fifteen Mercedinian goalkeepers in the MPL, Billic has gone with Real Vozë's Mario Merlo as his fourth choice. The Sporting World Cup (U18 World Cup) champion joins the senior for this qualifying campaign, but is unlikely to feature in any of the big matches. While the fourth choice goalie rarely gets a run out in the types of games, injuries, suspensions and dead rubber games could give the youngster a run out on the world's biggest stage. The goalkeeper is the last line of defence for many teams, and with Mercedini's historic reputation of having leaky defences, these four best be on their guard if they are to avoid an embarrassingly early exit.

Changes come in bits and bobs for the defensive roster as most of the changes come from the final couple of picks. It's clear the Billic is investing in youth for his final picks for this edition, as two of his players for qualifying are eligible for the U21 roster as well. Meucci is bought in for his third and final left-back selection, while Ally Dandic is Billic's fifth pick for centre-back. The turmoil bought about by the ceasing to exist of Havynwilde did mean than Di Sansev's spot as the #1 right-back was in jeopardy, but he renews his spot for this edition thanks to an emergency loan to Zoloroni City for the rest of the season, until he can find new suitors at the next transfer window. Trevasoni returns to the defensive roster once again. It's clear that this defence features plenty of youth and plenty of experience, but it remains to be seen whether this roster can perform on the biggest stage of them all.

MIDFIELDERS

RM Christian Armani 28 Image Slateport Bulls
RM Kian Berazzi 24 Image Blue Strike Zoloroni
RM Jack Nilevian 26 Image Tropicorp FC

Over to the midfield roster now, and it's quite a change compared to recent rosters, partly due to personnel changes but also partly due to the clubs they represent. Giorgio Gucci has moved out of Audioslavia and now plays his football in San Ortelio. Despite this, he keeps his first spot at left-mid after some great performances in last edition's qualifiers which kept him compeititve with those around him in the same position. Alcides who plays his football in Kelssek, and Allegro who plays domestically for Carassai all join the roster for this edition. With the new generation of midfielders clearly defined by those who won the U18 World Cup. Armani is promoted to first choice right-back ahead of Ross Presic, his move to Slateport Bulls in Valladares and is conveniently timed for his domestic club, his value might go up a bit after that. Kian Berazzi is also a new addition to the roster, who played for the title winning Blue Strike Zoloroni in his run out as an international player.

STRIKERS
ST Daniel Dostalok 29 Image Starling
ST Ben Chillotov 28 Image Lajuno
ST Adrian Talisky 20 Image Blue Strike Zoloroni
ST Max Esthik 27 Image Zoloroni Metropolitan
ST Feliks Alva 23 Image Elspachia

In a roster where there has been little to no change, the prolific group of strikers has only seen one change in the last three cycles from the group which got their call-ups to the senior team a couple of editions ago, with Adrian Talisky keeping his spot in the attacking roster due to his super-sub moments last edition. Talisky is certainly seen as the next generation of talismanic strikers, after Billic and Chillotov have done before them. After scoring more than twenty goals in the past two season for Blue Strike Zoloroni, the teenager has certainly earned his stripes, where he hopes to add another cutting edge to the quintet. Mikhail Gerardo steps aside and is replaced by Max Esthik, who has moves from the lower leagues to the MPL, where he is now netting for Zoloroni Metropolitan.

Chillotov and Dostalok remain the top two in the Mercedinian striking world and are selected once again to lead the line. They have been holding steady for their respective clubs, and are finally within their calibre of quality after lighting up their respective leagues before moving abroad to face greener pastures. All of these players used to play for their hometown club before moving for considerable amounts of money to their current clubs, effectively bankrolling their boyhood clubs for a while. Now playing internationally, they have been through the highs and lows of the qualifying schedule, so nothing should come as a shock to them as they go through the gears once again. Minnows and Juggernauts will have to face off against these players, whoever comes out of the other end will likely decide the campaign for Mercedini, with so much tied on the performances of these strikers.

The prosperous capital of Mercedini is the stage for the Mercedinian campaign for World Cup Qualification once again. The Zoloroni Sports City Stadium was built in 2012 and has been the national team's home stadium since it was built. The stadium used to hold over 61,000 people, but a modernising refurbishment meant that the capacity has increased by approximately 13,000 with the new capacity sitting at roughly 74,500 with the new visiting allocation still being just less than a quarter of that at 18,000. The stadium has hosted a Baptism of Fire final and an Independent's Cup final and third-place play-off during IAC's two and five respectively. The Sports City Stadium was the original home of Zoloroni City before they moved to their own stadium, but this cathedral is still accustomed to regular football featuring the nation's and the multiverse's best teams, when it hosts the MFA Cup final plus playoff finals for National League 1 and National League 2. Mercedinians and visiting spectators who don't have tickets can have a drink in one of the many bars and pubs nearby or they can chill in the World Cup FanZone where they can watch the matches on the big screens along with other football enthusiasts.

Mercedini has two national languages and both are universally spoken in the nation as children are taught both at a young age. Mercedinian is the native language of all citizens and is based around the Italian language, knowing the language isn't paramount to a tourist's experience but Mercedinians always appreciate a foreigner attempting to communicate in Mercedinian. If learning a foreign language isn't your thing then English is also universally spoken throughout the nation (especially in cities and other metropolitan areas as it is considered the language of business and commerce). It is common for Mercedinians to speak more than one language with some opting for a third if proficient enough in their previous two, Google Translate is also only a couple of clicks away if you need it.

Mercedini's national currency is the Mercede (M) and is used universally for the nation's transactions. Currently, the Mercede is a strong and reliable currency with 1.56 NationStates Dollars equalling 1 Mercede (M0.64 = 1 NS$). Goods & Services in Mercedini are comparably cheap thanks to low operating costs, free-trade deals and low import tariffs for foreign goods, they can be paid for using the common Mercede currency, although visitors can pay with NS Dollars or use their credit or debit cards. Citizens of Mercedini are pretty well-off with average incomes topping M145,000 (226,822 NS$) which means luxury goods & services are as much a part of Mercedinian shopping-culture as the bargains.

Food & Drink is considered a pillar of Mercedinian culture, which means visitors are literally in for a treat when they visit one of the nations many cafes, restaurants, bars or pubs. As previously mentioned, integration has played a large part in the cuisine, but ultimately Mercedinian cuisine has stayed largely close to it's roots. Mercedinian cuisine, like the language, is based on Italian cuisine, with flavourful pasta and rice dishes on offer, along with pizzas and stuffed flatbreads perfect for carnivores and vegetarians alike. For the tourists, dishes from their home nation will always be on offer which means that visitors can always have a taste of home while enjoying the action in Mercedini. If you're a fan of carb crashes, we think you'll love our nosh!

As it is the official capital city of Mercedini as well as the commercial hub of the nation, Zoloroni is large bustling city littered with modern skyscrapers and office buildings. Zoloroni will be at the centre of the action, holding the host arena as well as hosting most of the pre-festival events that will happen in Mercedini. Visitors will not be disappointed as Zoloroni has restaurants, shops and sightseeing trips in abundance, meaning that players and fans have plenty of activities waiting for them on their off-days. Zoloroni's main sporting attraction is the Sports City, which just a small journey away from the city centre.

Mercedinans are generally very peaceful to visitors and will pretty much always help out foreigners. If you need a recommendation for a restaurant or need help finding direction to their favourite tourist spot, someone will always be at hand to give you a point in the right direction. Mercedinians usually keep to themselves out on the street but will converse with almost anyone if approached in a friendly manner, and it always helps to know a bit of Mercedinian first. As a nation, Mercedini welcomes new visitors with open arms and hopes every tourist has a great experience in our nation. Andiamo!

Understanding the Pool

The players numbered 1-11 would be considered the starting 11 if the cup started today. The players 12-24 would be backups. Every player behind them is competiting for the those 23 spots throughout qualification. When the team qualifies for the World Cup (or the Cup of Harmony, should they fall short) the pool will be cut down, and the numbers will be reassigned to the final squad. Throughout qualifying, starting rosters and the bench at each game will feature a different mix of players from the pool.

Manager: Kate DiMarini. Originally from Baker Park and an assistant to the national team there, she then took over at Trebuchet Cham for several seasons, leading them to the Champions' League group stage before she took this job. Named interim manager halfway through WC87 qualifiers, and steadied the course, as Zwangzug qualified to the proper after a rocky start, now full-time. Still here despite failing to qualify for WC88, presumably because firing a foreigner would be rude and entitled, but we did finish as runners-up in Eagles Cup 11. Because that totally matters, right?

Goalkeepers:
1. Fedya Troy-Vee (102d Jr.s) (m) (first tournament: WC87 Q)

Click here for more information about these stadiums. (Scroll to the bottom here for 102d, here for Cham. The incredibly messy nature of this means I really should take initiative and copy it all to the wiki to have it in one place, but will I? Lol.)

We have a wiki page where I am slowly migrating information about the team. (Subpage with player details)

Colors: White with black stripes. Or black with white stripes. We go for the basics.

If RPing first, please feel free to name goalscorers, injure, and distribute cards to my players at will! You can also godmod events, though I'd appreciate advance warning if you want to take narrative liberties that I couldn't just as easily do to your team (due to being, e.g., an MT, mostly-human country). Put another way, metaphorical "godmodding" is welcome if clever, but I'd avoid the literal sense. Also, do not cause lasting harm in my country and/or to my citizens without contacting me first.
