A dinner at the shogun's (MT/OPEN)

OOC: Anyone can join this thread, except Munkchester. Members of Greater Dienstad region are welcome should they assume this thread to be non-canon for their region. I don't want any declarations of war or violent activities in this thread.

As this is an official event, only high ranked politicans, buisnessmen and other VIPs may attend.

Posts in thread may be low-effort. I want a nice, easy rp so one liners are acceptable if they contain relevant content.

*** Ishikawa

Shirokagi castle was a marvel of Nifonese architecture. From its red walls to thick, deep moats, upon which once stood Chosokame Yoritomo as he put an end to half a millennium of civil wars. Now, the mighty fortress hosted a new Shogun, albeit one of more humble origins.

Through the decorated walls of the castle walked a young man, a tall and handsome one, with a square face, short jaw, and a pair of deeply set jaws. He was Maki Nisuke; a rising star in the Imperial Reverence Party and a member of the Imperial Diet, the youngest one currently. He slid away a shoji door, to expose the Nifonese shogun sitting inside, taking care of a stash of documents.

"Ah, Nisuke-san!" the Nifonese Shogun rarely smiled, but his nephew was one of rare occasions he did "I take everything went well with the student debt cancellation act?"

"Thank Iesu no Mikoto, yes!" Nisukue, like his uncle, were one of few members of the party for whom Christianity was something more than a tool to manipulate the masses. Both genuinely believed in it's principles, even though if their methods of interpreting them were... curious at times "But Nishimura-san is mounting an opposition against us, and he has backing of powerful bankers from Sarabetsu District. Luckily, Chikashi-san was helpful in organizing support for my cause because he sees it as a chance to get himself credited for helping so many students. "

"Is that so?" the Nifonese shogun looked with an unhappy face. Maki Kojiro was indeed still bitter. When he lauched a coup to despose the liberal government of Kazushi, he dreamt of an ideal christian state. It took few years for all his allies to betray their own principles, leading him to command a mess that sought to devour him at every turn "If it comes to this, we will have to find a way to get rid of Nishimura-san then."

It then dawned on Nisuke again how ruthless his uncle could be. While Kojiro was a blood and bone follower of Krishtoukyo and disliked harming people needlessly, he would kill without second thoughts should he consider it necessary. Partially, his nephew understood him citing the monsters occupying the upper echelons of the party, who were model Christians at day, only to fornicate in Karamuncho at night, and who were ready to use anything should Kojiro target their interests.

"Nisuke - san..." his uncle continued "Thank you for your support."

And then a knife was driven into Nisuke's heart once again.

When your uncle is a military dictator that entire region fears, you are bound to live in his shadow. For once, Nisuke wanted to gain recognition on his own. To be Maki Nisuke, not the Shogun's nephew. Even his title of Baron was to him a reminder that his uncle dwarfed him.

There were those who already have capitalized on this. Baishou Gin had already offered him his support in passing his new act, creating a split in Nisuke's heart. If he allied with Gin, he could be his own man, playing a mediator between two most powerful men in Nifon; but in doing so he would violate his faith. Which one should he pursue?

"We have to go" his uncle interrupted him "Guests are waiting."

The official event had started. Classical music begun to play as cars with dignitaries slowly begun to arrive.

The guests had three rooms their disposal; the dinning room, with traditional Nifonese decorum; short, ground level tables and futons, full of Nifonese food; a classical European styled dance hall, with classical music playing and negotiations, a fully modern one, with translation devices and full gunpeitai listening team spying on foreign dignitaries who would want to talk there, though the last one wasn't openly admitted.

OOC: Start with your characters entering the room.

Ishikawa, Shirokagi Castle.
Mona Colaícht of the Tribe of Sligo.

To introduce myself, I am Mona Colaícht of the Tribe of Sligo (as if you didn't read that already one line above - hello, fourth wall!), the founder and CEO of Cumscóir Aircraft Manufactories Limited. We are a small, very small, and quite new aircraft manufacturer from Ironcastle in the Free Lands.
I sometimes wondered in how far we were the second, more successful coming of Ironcastle Airworks, but those are ruminations for another day.
I had a dinner to attend, curiously enough one hosted by the Shogun, read military dictator, of Nifon (a.k.a. Niffyland) at Shirokagi Castle. All their grumblings about Christianity and its virtues, traditionalism, militarism and homophobia aside, they could be a valuable business partner for us.
Now, you should know, that I am a lesbian woman, with a daughter, a Selkie-Pagan and a rather successful businesswoman. And, should anyone of the authorities try anything funny, I had a passport with the nice markings for "Diplomatic Immunity of the Free Lands of the Selkie" on it.
If they could look past all of that, though, me being the complete antithesis of everything they pretended to stand for, they would see the CEO of a small and capable helicopter manufacturer, who had not only helicopters on offer, but also two autogyros and a personal air vehicle.
The C-2 might be of especially large interest, but we'd see.
What they would also see was a woman in her early fourties (don't you date to remind me, thank you), who could pass as someone in her mid-twenties and who was well aware of it - and didn't hesitate to show it.
As my car, a Gabha Motorworks G 23 Starrcailann Luxury SUV pulled up to the venue, I looked down again and flattened my dress - it was a long, green, halterneck dress, which gave a nice cleavage and had quite slim halters as well as a free back. A capelet provided protection against the cold and the heels would make walking a torture, but I looked better in them.
My driver, I should mention, was of interest, too: Nolwenn Gluaisrothar of the Tribe of Wexford, I was allowed to call her Nolly, was the company heiress of Gabha Motorworks and the car was actually hers. Her company had high hopes as well for business in Nifon and they had high hopes for the C-2 Personal Air Vehicle, as that one had electric engines, the same as the G 23's Electric Motor version, which would come to the markets in two years.
We were a bit of chromatic opposites, she had long, blonde hair and blue eyes, I had short black hair and green eyes, I looked like I was in my mid-twenties, she was in her mid-twenties...
...and considering, that she wore a black cocktail dress, which reached her knees, she knew that as well. She, too, wore heels, but also a bracelet of a silver colour.
She pulled up expertly, waited for someone to open the doors for us and passed the keys on. "No joyrides, pal.", she said to the valet and shouldered her handbag, "I took a photo of the milage, so don't even try."
And with that, she joined my side.
"They're going to think, that I'm your wife.", she said with a grin.
"Let them.", I said, "If they do, no amount of devine wisdom will be able to rid them of their lack of reckognition skills." You should know, in regards to my wife, that she was a redhead, not blonde. "Come on, let's go. Let's do some networking!"
And with that, we entered the Dining Room.
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

Crassus von Hohenzollern-Jagiellon - Sophia Laurenberg von Hohenzollern-Jagiellon

A heavy thump could be heard as someone entered, followed by a muffled 'ow!' and a thump as they hit their head on the top of the doorway. After a few more clunks, the Prussian-Poles entered, Crassus, the king of Prussia and Poland, entered. He was of average height for a Prussian-Pole; 5'10, about. He shifted uncomfortably in his dress uniform; he had not worn it for a long time, and for good reason. Besides him, his wife, Sophia Laurenberg von Hohenzollern-Jagiellon, scanned the room, admiring the architecture. She wearing a button-down shirt, slacks, and a tie.

Bringing up the rear was Roland Smør. The Aureumterran defector cut an imposing figure, at 6'2... or would, if he was not nursing a bump on his head.

Still, he had made a name for himself fighting alongside the insurgents of the Congo, and now ran a private security company in Prussia-Poland. Rumors abounded of their activities; flying boats smuggling lasers to the Icelandic insurgents, nuclear midget submarines sent against the town of Visby.

Most, but not all, of it was hogwash.

Corrupt Dictatorship

Postby Brettenwald » Sat Aug 28, 2021 4:13 pm

As an atheist, a lesbian and someone as progressive as could reasonably be expected of the CEO of an avowedly apolitical (wink wink, nudge nudge, there is no war profiteering in Ba Sing Se) multi-billion-krona corporate empire, Nifon held very little attraction for Valentine Teissedre in the personal sphere as the passport in her purse and the fat silver challenge coin in her pocket reading "The holder of this coin and all persons traveling in their company are hereby entitled to full and complete diplomatic immunity by order of His Majesty" could attest, something which she was the only Brettain citizen not affiliated with the Crown to possess. In business, however, that was something entirely different. If Teissedre Group came out on top, the other parties kept as strictly to business as she did and the line went up at the end of the day, there were few sins she couldn't forgive.

Her sleek and proudly domestically-produced Aquila GT:Zero electric sports sedan soon joined the line of expensive sheetmetal in Shirokagi Castle's driveway, and she sighed to herself sadly. Martina hadn't wanted to come along with her, which was understandable, but still her absence hurt: now that they were married, not having her wife here felt like she'd left one of her limbs back home. In contrast to the occupants of the big Gabha SUV in front of her, standing 6' in the kind of body men frequently used to go to war over meant she had no need for heels. Strawberry blonde hair and hazel eyes flashed for a second in the rear view mirror as she turned her attention to activating valet mode in the center screen before handing the chunky metal key fob over to an attendant briefly confused by right-hand drive, stepping out and smoothing down the front of her wholly black and definitively figure-hugging three piece suit. Whatever the reasons, she thought internally as she made for the dining room, this was going to be a memorable night.

"We're here."

Amidst the rows upon rows of vehicles accumulating outside the castle, one particular limousine seemed slightly... off from the rest. Though about on par with any vehicle of its type in terms of external appearance, its curved seemed to be somewhat odd - as if vaguely out of touch with reasonable, sane automobile design conventions. The emblem adorning its front was unrecognizable as any extant manufacturer, and indeed the design itself could not be found in practically any catalogue known to man, likely because the vehicle itself had not come out of a catalogue. Or a manufacturer from whom anything could be bought, per se. Regardless, within its rather run-of-the-mill, yet still quite expensively upholstered interior, one figure had just spoken out to another.

Annabelle von Liebowitz, Minister of Foreign Relations on behalf of the Bureaucracy, was not in any way averse to tight security. Indeed, many who knew her would have been somewhat surprised to see her here, in the company of only a single other individual in lieu of a retinue, at an event hosted the world away (or several, as the case may have been) by someone she'd never before met. Yet she still felt vague unease as she glanced forwards into the driver's seat, and responded to her chaffeur-cum-bodyguard for the evening.

"Indeed. Remind me again why this is necessary?"

The man at the car's wheel gave a fractional nod, his hands quite full of steering implement at present. His suit was unassuming, gaze rather placid, and general appearance rather unthreatening. All carefully curated, no doubt.

"Typically one would have to first arrive at the location before attending the event hosted there, ma'am."

"You know damn well what I mean, Ćosić. I have guards. A security detail. There are procedures in place for this kind of thing, and I've run through them thousands upon thousands of times. Yet a certain someone had insisted for you, and you only, to tag along."

"The insistence was warranted, ma'am. I can adequately provide for every angle your security team would otherwise cover, and maintain proximity without disrupting the event. A cadre of heavily-armed guards lacks tact. I doubt anyone will attempt anything so direct as to be personal, but there are certain elements which may resort to more elaborate tactics."

"You're telling me the League is going to try and slip a skimmer through? A few glide bombs, maybe?"

"Let's face it, ma'am - you're far from home, and in a locale that is... shall we say, less than secure by our usual standards. Not to doubt the competence of the locals, of course."

"And in the event of screaming, hypersonic death, you will..?"

"Have an adequate answer, ma'am."

She gave him another, lengthy look as they pulled into a suitable parking space.

"I'm inclined to believe you. Which in itself is a terrifying prospect."

"A warranted reaction, ma'am."

He exited the vehicle first, opening her passenger door from the outside and courteously ushering her out. As she took his proffered hand, she gave a rather resigned sigh. If Eduard had chosen to saddle her with a spook, his reasoning was probably sound. And in the highly unlikely event that he'd have to actually do something, she supposed that there wasn't really any other sort of individual with whom she could be safer, objectively speaking. If only the whole experience wasn't so very disconcerting, in some utterly inexplicable way - something about the field branches of the Commissariat just didn't sit well with her, even if they did fall partway under her own jurisdiction.

They made for an interesting pair as they headed up to the building itself, and into the ballroom, if mostly by dint of contrast. Beside Annabelle herself, the rather mundane-looking blond gentleman in the slate-grey suit looked to practically melt into the background. She certainly cut a striking figure - even sans her considerable height, there were certain details that just tended to stick in the mind, rolling together into the sort of commanding presence that one would expect from someone of her provenance and standing. Natural beauty helped, of course. She had the family's eyes, too - emerald-green, and possessive of a scouring gaze. In her case this was somewhat ameliorated by a disarmingly friendly expression, but one still occasionally got the distinct feeling that she could see right on through one's skull. The general impression was only heightened by her choice of attire - though the dress was in no way particularly revealing, it had been tailored masterfully. From form-fitting to decoratively loose, its silken-grey curves had been cut to perfectly accentuate her figure, and the barely-perceptible geometric patterns adorning the cloth made for something of an additional eye-catcher. She'd gone light on the jewelry, with nothing more than a pair of angular stud earrings and a simple necklace, in gold.

Truth be told there wasn't much here of any real import to her, or to the polity she represented. Yet gatherings like these served as stepping stones, and as entries into genuine avenues of interaction; tonight it was up to her to explore such nooks, and see where they might lead. And of course, at the end of the day, this was an opportunity to unwind from the rigors of her typical workload.

Carlos S.S. Kang, MBA
Shirokagi Castle, Ishikawa, Nifon
August 26th, AD 2021
1922 Local Time

To say that Carlos was particularly venerable in stature was an understatement. At 71, he and his twin brother Daniel were what popular culture had in mind whenever one talked about The Kang Brothers as one of the richest Visayans, industrialists to the core with interests in various quarters. To the people who knew them personally, they were human beings; human beings with the kind of wealth to last them at least five lifetimes, but human beings nonetheless. To pop culture, they were the face of the Visayan Corporate World, with all the implications that carried.
But this did not faze Carlos; he was with his wife, Victoria. They had been together for 44 years and counting, and he saw in her 69-year-old eyes the same fire that had been burning when he first met her all those years ago...it was a nice thought, as he realized that were it not for the Confederation's vaccination campaign, neither of them would have been cleared for travel. That said, neither of them saw any harm in masking up regardless; the Archbishop Emeritus of Cebu was a friend of theirs, and when Wilfred Cardinal Ybarra died of COVID-19, Carlos made an anonymous donation to the Archdiocese in his memory...and he would be damned if he or his wife would willingly expose themselves unnecessarily to any health hazards.

Dorian M. Corona
Shirokagi Castle, Ishikawa, Nifon
August 26th, AD 2021
1931 Local Time

While Carlos Kang and his wife would be present to seek inroads in the world of international commerce, Dorian Corona was present for more...political reasons. The Visayan senator looked to the architecture as he thought of how the more radical Nifonese would take issue to what they would likely see as filthy heretics paying a visit; while the Visayans present were Christians to a man (or woman, in the case of Carlos' wife), he knew enough to understand that they were not the kind of Christian that would feel completely welcome in Nifon. Then again, a diplomatic passport served as assurance if anyone in authority had any issue with him; he also knew that the Nifonese were willing to play ball with people so long as their interests did not clash.
He could see the Prusso-Polish, Brettian, and Selkie delegations going around, and wondered who else made it to Kojiro's guest list...

Hopefully I haven't made too much of a mess of this; I haven't written anything to my liking for a long time before Vana Ptang's RP a few days hence, even IRL, and had had long layoffs from writing RPs before my last try. Hopefully this is up to something like snuff.

The halls of Shirokagi Castle, Ishikawa, Nifon, time undisclosed.

Only the pitter-patter of discreet steps washing over from floor to ceiling could be heard now, as Korekochi Shizou crept along his way towards his ultimate destination; the distinctly chopped-up of the helicopter rotor had stopped not a few minutes in. Not unusual for the 46-year-old, given his occupation as a diplomat, even if the circumstances leading him there were.

For starters, neither Nifon nor the queendom had yet to reestablish ties since the early years of the shogunate, when the shogun had gone out of his way to broadcast his homophobia to the world. While none of the kami then were the targeta of Maki Kojiro's well-publicized hatred, it was still something that all three thought were irreconcilable; it was partly this and partly a wariness of the shady cabal that surrounded the zealous shogun, rather than the overthrowing of the Kazuchi ministry that the kami deigned to publicize (but were ready in a semi-private basis to disavow), that motivated the kami to bend the terms of its millennial commitment to neutrality and effectively sever Dahon's diplomatic ties to Nifon as long as the shogunate persisted.

Since then, any diplomatic overtures had to be relayed on through a number of hands on an ad hoc basis, a matter made even more haphazard not only by the temporary recall of most diplomats to Dahon to divert much-needed funds to the inauguration of the new capital of Yayoi, the elevation of the Asunaro islands into a co-equal region with its own kami, and the coronation of that kami. Korekochi's delegation was one of the few that were retained; the kamis' longstanding economic and sociopolitical ties to Moscareinas were too important to forgo. (That the Moscans were also generous enough to form part of the complicated string of relays now joining the shogun and the kami to... thankfully occasional diplomatic displays of weirdly aggressive concern from the Suzumikami, still vocally lesbian, still achingly single, and still oh-so-overbearing, was a minor perk, too.)

Of course, remaining open for business was what would lead to this lonely moment, the ambassador mused as he slid open the door and to his room and saw an elderly masked couple gingerly lowering themselves to the futons, being helped along by another man whose features seemed to mark him as of the same generation as he was.

(That was, of course, only partly true. Not only was he the most senior member of the Dahoni diplomatic service still on the field; not only did the head of the Comorian royal family and the head of the Outer Directorate of the Yakumo Census Bureau show up to "give their regards"; he was a ready-made collection of traits well-suited not to antagonize his touchy hosts, the most important of which was his being a heterosexual.)

Visayans? Visayans here? Korekochi began to ask himself, even as he dutifully adjusted his own mask and considered whether to get back outside and ask for assistance for the couple, without calling too much attention to himself.

Ishikawa, Shirokagi Castle. Time unknown.
President Mawar Al-Sherbak

At first, there was a pause from the last few arrivals as if someone had managed to delay the incoming diplomats or worse yet, something happened to hold them up. Alas, it was no time to panic, with the president of Gonswanza soon arriving. It seems he was only mildly delayed given some minor issues at the airport, along with a mild fit back at home over what to wear, what to carry, and what security detail to use. In the end, he went without escort, given it was more of a social event with ample opportunity for diplomacy rather than some rapid-fire affair over security, welfare, the lifeblood of nations, and international unity. He was sharp-dressed, a black suit with a tie in the colors of the Gonswanzan flag, the crossed blades being replaced with a golden pin as his cuff links were also of the same design. Black leather shoes and well-combed hair match to his black pants and white shirt, with a red handkerchief, folded up into his breast pocket and designer shades plus a special eyepatch resting upon his face and empty socket to finish off his look. He was dressed to kill, though the hidden vest and personal weapons added to that. Again, not that there was a need for one to be their own guard, but he was careful enough as is even among allies in his own office. It paid to be paranoid. After departing from his armored limo, he would wave off the chauffeur with a gloved hand, using white gloves as if to feign purity of the state. Fact of the matter was, his gloves would be stained with red given the harsh systems in place, yet that is another matter entirely that is not for here nor there.

Once he was alone, or at least, as alone as one could be, he walks forward into the building, mentally preparing himself to be met by a crowd, prior to stepping in...

... And later finding himself at his room, after going through a blur of events. He was alone again, though he suspected that perhaps the pain killers he took on the aircraft for his mild headache were a bit much for himself. He then resorts to collecting his thoughts, washing his face, checking himself in the mirror and resorting to a bit of meditation prior to heading back out again, as if nothing had happened at all. By that time, the painkillers should be on the way out, hence leaving his mind clear for any future interactions.

Her Imperial Highness, Lucía, Princess of Asturias
Shirokagi Castle

Image

To begin, let me tell you a bit about myself. My name is Lucía and I'm a princess from the Spanish Empire. Not just any old princess, though—I'm the Princess of Asturias (Princesa de Asturias), the daughter of none other than the Emperor of Spain himself, and next in line for my country's throne.

You probably think that being a princess is no fun: always wearing frumpy old dresses, minding your manners, smiling and waving to crowds, blah blah blah. But if you ever met my family, you'd know that nothing's further from the truth. Despite being an absolute monarch, my Dad has always been a rebellious and fun-loving dude all his life, with a passionate disdain for somber formality and rigid decorum. And though I'm not the promiscuous party animal that he is (clubbing and guys aren't my thing anyway), I did inherit his wild side and love for action and adventure. So while other royals at my age were being drilled in proper etiquette and court protocol, I was having the time of my life, doing exciting things like riding roller coasters, skydiving and driving fast cars. I was also the first member of the Imperial Family to go to space.

Did I mention that I love to travel and see the world? For which, being the Princess of Asturias is a huge blessing—not only do I have a private train and yacht at my disposal, which I never have to pay for myself, but my status as future empress means that I can go pretty much anywhere I please, without the hassle of applying for a tourist visa. In addition, although I'm well recognized internationally as a prominent member of the Spanish Imperial Family, I always carry a diplomatic passport (which reads on the first page: "The owner of this document is the Princess of Asturias, heir to the imperial throne of the Spanish Empire, and shall be entitled to all privileges and immunities as conferred by Divine Right and the law of nations.") and travel with an escort of plainclothes bodyguards, just in case an uneducated peasant cop tries to lay hands on me, which has fortunately never happened during any of my travels.

So this occasion was the perfect opportunity for me to visit a new place and experience their food and architecture, which the Nifonese were known for. As soon as I received the invitation, I packed my bags and climbed aboard the Imperial Yacht Corona, departing a few days in advance so that I could get there in time for the event. I should add, although I've driven through Europe by myself before, this was my first time going solo to another continent without my Dad, so naturally I was a bit nervous as well as excited. But the voyage went without a hitch, fair winds and calm seas all the way. And soon we arrived in Nifon before we knew it. After the ship tied up, I backed my car out of the garage (yes, the Corona has a garage on her, that's how big she is) down the ramp, and off to the castle I went.

Whenever he travels by road, my Dad likes to announce his presence loudly by rolling up in a motorcade of 50 or more luxury vehicles, all with sirens screaming at full blast. I preferred a more low-key, scaled down approach, so for this trip, I just brought along a single vehicle. It was a black BMW which my Dad gave me for my 21st birthday, seven years ago. Not as big or opulent as some of the other guests' limousines, but not a crappy four-banger shitbox either—it had a powerful V12 engine and was armored to withstand bullets and bombs. I drove while my two attendants-slash-bodyguards, Jesús and Miguel, sat in the back seat. While they looked like your run-of-the-mill servants in their elegant black suits, they were actually highly trained members of the Imperial Spanish Marines, ready to protect me with their lives (though I'm sure that won't be necessary today). As for me, I wore a bright yellow mini dress and black knee-high boots.

As we got to the castle, I noticed the valet staff standing near the entrance, offering to park the guests' vehicles for them. I declined and parked my car by myself, both because I was a great driver, and also because it had some secret security measures installed in it, which my Dad and I weren't keen on exposing. I opened the door and stepped out first, followed by Jesús and Miguel, who both donned sunglasses. After we exited the car, I clicked the lock button on the key remote. The alarm system gave a chirp, and small red warning lights illuminated on the door handles to indicate that they were now electrified with 220 volts of live current. Then we walked inside together.

In the dining room, I took a look around at some of the guests that had already arrived. Most were businessmen of some sort, which I could tell from their suits. But there was also a handful of ladies present, including a few dressed in somewhat revealing or form-fitting outfits. Not that I had a problem with that—quite the opposite in fact. Three of them caught my attention in particular, since they didn't have male partners: a twenty-ish brunette in a long green dress and what appeared to be her girlfriend, a blonde in a short black dress, both of whom looked like they were royalty or nobility of some sort—as well as another blonde in a business suit. I'd later learn that the first two weren't princesses or a couple at all, but the CEO of an aviation company and her chauffeuse, and that the seemingly ordinary businesswoman was a powerful arms-dealing magnate. But none of those thoughts crossed my mind for now.

Being the peppy and outgoing person I was, I immediately went over to introduce myself and strike up a conversation with the lovely ladies, ignoring the others. "¡Hola amigas!", I greeted them. "My name's Lucía. How ya doing?"

Mona Colaícht of the Tribe of Sligo.
I had send off Nolly mere seconds before someone called out: "¡Hola amigas! My name's Lucía. How ya doing?"
Lucía, as it turned out, had addressed me and... by Rhiannon's left tit - by sheer coincidence, I had veered close to Valentine Teissedre. As in, the CEO of the Teissedre Group.
One of Brettenwald's largest industrial groups and about as apolitical as the Kyrenaian Movement for a Change in the Law of Marriage. But still - Valentine Teissedre!
Faye would never belive me!
I quickly composed myself, beat back my inner fangirl with extreme prejudice and put on a winning smile. Turning to Lucía, I replied: "And a good evening to you, Miss...?"
I really had no idea about who she was.

Nolwenn Gluaisrothar of the Tribe of Wexford.
I had decided to split up from Mona quite early, as we had spoken about in the car, and was now looking for an interesting conversation partner... some stuffy businessmen, military, government, military government and... a very rare sight: King Crassus von Hohenzollern-Jagiellon and Queen Sophia Laurenberg von Hohenzollern-Jagiellon.
A very rare sight outside of the Commonwealth.
Despite his age, the King of the Commonwealth still cut an impressive figure and his wife had a no-nonsense attitude about her, too. I certainly saw, where Berengar had it from - at least the Berengar, who I knew from Ida's stories, fellow BI-models and all that.
Still... the Commonwealth was a fellow SEA-Member, so it would be quite in the spirit of things to approach them, first.
And so I did.
At an appropriate distance, I placed a hand over my heart and bowed my head, as it was custom among the Selkie.
"Good evening, Crassus-, Sophia-Ríon.", I greeted them in the simple and straightforward way of the Selkie. "If I may be so bold and intrude upon you, I am Nolwenn Gluaisrothar of the Tribe of Wexford. I represent Gabha Motorworks of Ironcastle tonight."
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

Given the mild flurry of activity outside, Mawar decides to move around indoors as if seeking some interaction, though the weaving was more so to try to see if anyone else not at all tied to the host was present and willing to talk diplomatically or casually. Luckily, Mawar also had plenty of lies and false stories thought up to try to amuse the guests, assuming of course they were willing to lebd him an ear. Eventually he's left in the room, resorting to taking a seat given an active search was not going to warrant any kind of interaction. Yet.

Adjacent street, Shirokagi Castle, Ishikawa, Nifon.

“You know, son,” Johan began after a fairly quiet car ride spent alternating between emails and video sharing apps on his phone, “there might be some unpleasant opinions you’ll hear tonight”

Lorenz, taking that as a cue, pressed the button to raise the glass divider between the rear passenger compartment and the chauffeur to keep the conversation private. He briefly saw his own reflection in the glass, his blond hair lightly tousled by the warm evening air from the open passenger window. He almost didn’t look related to his dad, whose dark brown hair was starting to grey in a salt-and-pepper way, and could have been mistaken for a stranger if they didn’t share the same pale blue eyes.

“Yeah, I’ve heard the Nifonese aren’t always so progressive,” he responded while rolling his eyes, with no doubt in mind that his father was referring to his sexuality. As a man in his early 30s, he had a foot in the worlds of both the homophobic past and open-minded present back at home; there was a time he wasn’t sure his own father would be so accepting.

“Right, but if you’re going to go from junior Volksammer member to Minister or Chair or, hopefully, President like your old man here, you’re going to have to deal with all kinds of people,” Johan lectured while giving Lorenz a sideways glance to drill the point home.

Lorenz nodded and remained silent as his father continued, “these kind of open-invite events are good practice. We won’t have our aides and analysts with us and we’ll have to think on our feet.”

“Well, let’s hope there’s both a podiatrist and a dentist on call, just in case I put my foot in my mouth,” Lorenz said with a chuckle, eliciting a laugh from his father.

Entrance drive, Shirokagi Castle, Ishikawa, Nifon.

A few moments later, their car pulled into the castle compound. They were perhaps the only two to arrive in a hopelessly out-of-date, yet mostly original and ‘charming in classic sort of way’ vehicle. The 1970 NKW long-wheelbase sedan had been in the family for fifty years and was an heirloom at this point - a symbol the family had "made it" when awarded to Johan’s father upon his promotion to the State Council back in the day. Its burgundy paint had been touched up and well-polished over the years and almost stood out in the stream of black cars and SUVs crawling along to the route to Shirkagi Castle, but basic maintenance had become a hobby of Johan’s when the Presidency wasn’t in the way.

As the car came to a stop at the entrance steps, the two popped the doors open and let themselves out before an usher could do it for them. This is a habit of Grusslander politicians trying to seem more folksy, an image certainly betrayed by their crisp white shirts and sharp modern suits (dark grey for Johan and a fashionable “high blue” for Lorenz)

The father-son duo took a moment to appreciate the detailed woodwork and classic Nifonese architecture before entering the castle – indeed, the intricately detailed traditional portico was a far-cry from the almost too-rational architecture of home. Once inside, they noticed a few guests milling about and, embarrassingly, Lorenz's stomach growled. At that moment, an usher silently gestured towards the dining hall; the long flight and drive had worked up their appetites.

Welcome to Grussland: The land of beer and bratwurst.
A modernized ex-communist country that chose reform instead of capitalism. It went through a period of de-communization and economic reform without the nasty crashes faced by other ex-communist countries by refusing wholesale adoptation of capitalism with basically zero transition.
Doesn't represent my views. Mostly me asking... what if East Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, etc had not gone down the neo-con crash capitalist route, and instituted people-oriented reforms instead?

Dorian Corona
Shirokagi Castle

Making a beeline for the delegations that were also members of the Strategic and Economic Alliance was the rational choice at the moment for Dorian; overhearing who the Selkie was addressing the Prusso-Poles meant that the reports matched the dossier he had read during the flight to Nifon. There could be no doubt that the Prusso-Polish delegation was headed by King Crassus von Hohenzollern-Jagiellon, with his consort Queen Sophia Laurenberg von Hohenzollern-Jagiellon alongside him.
Time to line up, Dorian thought, as he saw the Kangs make a beeline for the Brettian delegation. He would follow the Selkie who introduced herself as Nolwenn Gluaisrothar of the Tribe of Wexford in introducing himself to the Prusso-Polish royals.

For a second, I saw the brunette's face light up with excitement upon noticing the blonde businesswoman in the suit. Must be a famous celebrity or billionaire, I thought. At the same time, just as I got to her, her blonde partner in the black dress had gotten up to chat with somebody else. I was a little disappointed by that, but still looked forward to meeting the remaining two ladies.

Just as I had no idea who the brunette in the green dress was, neither did she about me. Which was a bit of a surprise, considering that I was the future Empress of Spain. But hey, there's a first time for everything, right? "Lucía, Princess of Asturias," I answered. "Heir to the Spanish Empire. How about you?"

Just as I was about to introduce myself to the blonde lady in the suit and ask who she was, she introduced herself first as Valentine Teissedre, the head of a company with the same name as her surname. In addition, judging by how she addressed me, she was already familiar with who I was, which was to be expected, given that I was the daughter of the Spanish Emperor. But not the other way around—I'd never heard of this "Teissedre Group" until now. Was it a law firm? A media company? A chain of supermarkets? Only one way to find out.

"Nice to meet ya, Val!" I replied. "And I'm fine with Lucía, I'm not big on formality either." Then I asked about what her company did, as well as her reason for attending the dinner. "So what do you do, and what brings you here today? Me, I came here mostly for the food and the scenery. And the chance to meet new people, there's that too."

"I see. Personally, I find myself here purely for business reasons. I am, let us say, not enamored with our host and his country for various personal-slash-political reasons, but I do try not to mix business and personal matters and I trust any Nifonese I may end up dealing with to do the same. As for what I do, I expected that becoming CEO after my father retired would involve less answering of emails and more personal involvement in day-to-day operations, though those expectations are likely just his leadership style rubbing off. That's what I do, but the corporation itself is active in the following sectors:
cybersecurity, cyberdefense, cloud computing and artificial intelligence,
super and quantum computing,
electrical and mechanical engineering as umbrella disciplines with particular foci on nanotechnology, robotics, and systems engineering,
and smaller-scale activities in air and ground-based weapons systems and autonomous vehicle research and development..."
A blush.
"My apologies, I tend to get somewhat didactic where work is concerned. I hope I didn't drone on too much, my wife would never forgive- ah, shit. I just said that, didn't I? Oh, well, not like it's not public knowledge and they invited me anyway, so-" She shrugged. "At least if I get put in front of a firing squad or something they'll have hell to pay afterwards. It'll be fun to die knowing my existence caused a major diplomatic incident." A little deadpan humor never hurt anyone.

Eliza Michart - Michael Devinson-Burgund
Ishikawa, Shirokagi Castle, Time Undisclosed

Taking the last swig out of the empty bottle of Guinean Mountain Wheat Beer, the president chucks the bottle into the backseat and climbs out, shortly followed by the NKB International Relations Advisor. It had been a long yet annoying journey to the castle. Mildly delayed by the choice of wear, the president decided on a three-piece suit in dark blue with cuff links of the New Kowloon Bay Whitehearted Flower, hair swept into a crisp pixie bob. As for the advisor, he had simply thrown on the least-wrinkled dresswear he had found in the closet. Then, they were hindered by the security detail the top military general just had to throw on, in case of enemies. It was a party of diplomats. The worst injuries she would attain would be chronic boredom. She already kept a miniature blowgun in her pocket in case of emergencies.

As the NKC Crusernian BXL-001 drove away, the president and the advisor walked into the castle. She immediately set her sights on the nearest completely empty table with chairs, greeting others who approached.
Yeah I don't know when I'm set in.

OOC: In travel for one day, and already ten posts O_O?

Feel free to continue mingling; I can only respond to so many people at once. Also, read this.

The arriving guests were carefully led inside by the servicing staff, then sat in front of the table according to the diplomatic protocol. The most highest ranked guests were sat closest to the front of the table, where dual seats were made for Her Augustness and shogun himself. They could see her in front of the table. She was a stunning beauty, with raven like silky flowing hair, wearing multiple layers of formal clothing resembling an onion. Those familiar with Nifonese politics knew however that neither she - nor her husband, who though a foreigner was a protege of Kojiro - had much interest in Nifonese domestic politics, leaving it all for Kojiro and the party.

"Good evening to you, Lucia-ojo!" she was addressed by no one but the Empress herself "I am glad to welcome you to the Empire of Greater Nifon. How did you enjoy the land of cranes so far?"

The businessmen part of the guests, as protocol demanded, were sat behind the royalty - which also gave better access to various Nifonese businessmen and party elders who shared the same side. They could easily see someone very important sitting there too. Baishou Gin, in his glasses, dressed in an expensive smoking sat there too, carefully observing the coming guests.

"Good evening!" he addressed president of New Kowloon Bay, smiling "I am humbled to meet your excellency here. I take that the journey was pleasant?"

Meanwhile the Kangs had another person address them. He instantly distinguished himself from other Nifonese VIPs by being taller and bulkier than them. Yet only when a part of the man's tattoos emerged from below his sleeves - a tattoo of blue dragon coiled around a katana - could Kangs know who addressed them. Kazama Tenryu, aka dragon of Karamuncho, was officially a rich industrialist and owner of a large construction company - unofficially one of most important figures in Nifonese underworld. Bribing party officials evidently gave him enough connections to get in here.

"Kang-san it is an honour to greet you here!" the Nifonese man smiled.

And to your question about my journey, I'd say it was ok, except for the fact the general just had to throw an armed guard to protect me. I left them at the door, though.' She let out a fake sad look, seeming that she'd rather them and her die than follow her throughout the castle. 'Enough about me. How are you? What brings you here today?'

Carlos Kang
Shirokagi Castle

Distracted from their path to the Brettian who introduced herself as Valentine Teissedre, Princess Lucía of Asturias, and a Selkie unknown to either Kang, Carlos and Victoria introduced themselves to the particularly tall Nifonese with right palms over their chests and a slight bow.
"The honor is all mine, Mr. Kazama" Carlos said, the use of Western address something the septuagenerian had been accustomed to. Better to come off as hidebound and unyielding than pretentious and soft, he thought, taking the lessons of the corporate world in the Confederation to heart; while the boardroom may be as cutthroat as the inner city, it paid well when people knew where one stood, especially in an environment where hogs would get slaughtered in short order. "I am Carlos Kang, with Kang Associates. With me is my wife, Victoria; we're with the Visayan delegation to Nifon." The eponymous company was the parent to various corporations with interests ranging from foodstuff to real estate; it also ran a school catering to the children of the Visayan elite, with its corporate social responsibilities mostly seen in the two foundations named after his deceased sisters-in-law.
From the corner of his eye, he could see Senator Corona with the Prusso-Poles and another Selkie.

Shizou took his seat at the futon designated for him -- as a mere diplomat and a silent one at that thus far, he was put pretty far from the shogun and who appeared to be the Empress, whose clothes and overall demeanor reminded him of trophies put up on display in Moscan schools: delicately-handled yet well-worn, which was, he supposed, the fate of constitutional monarchs the world over. Superfluous decor, rhetoric about "continuity" and "unity" notwithstanding.

Not an altogether pleasing thought were it to be said out loud, but it did keep his eyes from lingering at whatever peeked at the sleeves of one of the men now sharing the room with then, now exchanging pleasantries with the Visayan delegation.

That whatever, of course, was tattoos, which meant only one thing.

Mobster, Shizou quickly surmised, speedily suppressing a sudden wariness; surely the shogun wasn't planning to kill them all. Certain highly-placed bribes, perhaps even a don on a hit job, evidently waiting for the shogun's orders.

Just like the movies. Too stereotypically movelike, in fact.

Whatever the cause of his presence, the mobster was nonetheless a disconcerting fact thrust into the proceedings; intentionally defiling one's skin was one of the more extreme taboos of Dahoni culture, associated with the late stages of the syphilis that once ravaged Dahon nearly three centuries before, and -- thanks to cinematic imports -- the violence of organized crime syndicates.

That such connections with the underworld would be displayed by Kojiro Maki before them all was not a good sign, but... seeing as he was yet to even be sought after, and given that the others had yet to pick up the half-concealed hint under the mobster's sleeves, the ambassador finally surmised to keep his counsel a little while longer. Sending him in to deliberately not provoke the Nifonese was working all too well, but he wasn't about to give up whatever advantages that strategy had, not at this time.

Unless, of course, if he were spoken to.

The empire of greater appeared on the outside as a model Christian nation. The social order was based on three principles - Christian faith, teachings of the ancient Chu sages and Nifonese warrior code. Everything went well; the society functioned as a highly oiled mechanism under the watchful eye of the Imperial Reverence Party. "Dangerous gaijin ideas" like socialism, liberalism, communism and feminism did not take hold, and each and every Nifonese lived a joyous life.

It was true that the economy was booming. Nifon dominated the whole area of Southern Furukuran Sea, forcing it's peoples to provide resources the land of cranes needed. Should they decline, Imperial Nifonese Army paid them a visit and deliveries resumed, usually under the leadership of a new government. Wenchuan - the country with largest potential - was split among squabbling warlords, whom Nifon graciously provided with arms, carefully watching hat none of them become too powerful to unite the country. Nifonese electronics and digital market was booming, with success of Amrita being a perfect example.

Yet not all was well. That night was the first time many foreign guests were exposed to reality of Nifon.

Kojiro, to gain power and rule the country, needed power. To gain power he needed alliances. People with whom he allied weren't as idealistic as him. Some didn't care about religion at all, seeing it as merely a tool to manipulate the masses. Others did believe, but their faith was the kind of nightmares of normal people.

Fast forward twenty years, despite it's dominance over the region, Nifon was rotting on the inside. In 20 years of his reign, the Shogun saw the new elite grow as corrupt as the one he toppled... and wondered how did it happen,

Tenryu merely smiled:

"The pleasure is all mine" he continued "How is the buisness going? For me it is all good. I even purchased five percent of shares in AmritaLabs this month. Heard they are readying a major upgrade of their network as the previous system couldn't handle the demand!"

For him, this was an once in the lifetime chance. Truth was, Tenryu cared little about anything else but money, having grown up in Karamuncho. Called "Ishikawa's rear" the district was a stain on Nifon's reputation as Kirishitan nation, housing poverty, crime and plenty of brothels which the government couldn't remove despite repeated attempts. Usually, Kojiro kept him on a short leash; viewing him with suspicion, but lacking willingness to attack him when more pressing threats lurked in the party... like Baishou Gin.

To be truthful, Gin saw the president of New Kowloon Bay as an idiot.

The president, if by some mind control trick he got to read Gin's thoughts, would likely known that there were very few people that Gin wasn't seeing as idiots. Usually this list was restricted to himself, Ito Suzaku and their closest associates in the party. The party elder in Nifon despised equally all who believed in freedom and democracy, thinking himself superior to them.

After all, what was democracy if just a filler for textbooks, to con people into thinking they have a choice, while the real leaders - of whom he of course was greatest and smartest - quietly led from behind, giving masses exactly what they wanted. Be it democracy... or religion.

"Your excellency, by all standards of politeness your excellency is a proper term in diplomatic protocol to refer to a president" he once again entered his persona of Baishou Gin - the humble, religious party elder who would have given his life for Iesu Krishtou no Mikoto "I am Baishou Gin, member of the party standing committee at your service. I have been called here, even if Kojiro-sama and me... don't always share the same views, even if I share the same faith as him."

That was an understatement. The two men bitterly fought for control of the party, and at this moment, the forces were equal. Gin had more backers in the imperial diet, using a careful network of alliances with other party elders; but Kojiro had the military under his control. Gin had to proceed wisely in fear of potential retaliation - he knew all too well that should Kojiro get serious, rule of law won't be respected at all.

In the end, despite it's president being an idiot in Gin's eyes, Kowloon bay was resource rich. Securing a contract could increase Gin's prestige, and thus his prestige in the party. Finally he would topple Kojiro and then turn Nifon into a proper empire stretching from Palmyrion to Mirsk, all under quiet rule of the worthy - a testament to his greatness.

cybersecurity, cyberdefense, cloud computing and artificial intelligence,
super and quantum computing,
electrical and mechanical engineering as umbrella disciplines with particular foci on nanotechnology, robotics, and systems engineering,
and smaller-scale activities in air and ground-based weapons systems and autonomous vehicle research and development..."

As Val began listing each of the industry sectors that her company, Teissedre Group, was involved in, it became clear why the lady in the green dress had been fawning over her. This was no ordinary businesswoman—this was the head of a global technology mega-corporation, the likes of Google. In addition, while I was no expert in any of the fields she mentioned, I knew what all of those were, since they've existed for a long time in the Spanish Empire as well. However, my Dad considered them a critical part of the Empire's national infrastructure, and was somewhat paranoid of being spied on, so he was quite opposed to entrusting those technologies in the hands of foreign-based companies, and imposed many restrictions on such companies doing business in Spain. Perhaps that's why I'd never heard of Teissedre Group before.

This lady certainly had an impressive portfolio, but I wasn't here to discuss a business deal, so I decided to steer the conversation away from that topic. Val mentioned that she had a wife, but quickly stopped herself from saying more on the subject. She also quipped about her sexuality causing an international incident, to which I slightly chuckled.

"It's alright, I won't judge," I replied. "Your secret's safe with me. Anyway, what's it like to own a company? I imagine there's lots of work involved. For me, I don't have to do any work myself. A great thing about being a princess is that I've got servants to do everything for me, and it's free. I also don't need a license to drive, or to follow any laws for that matter. So I've gotten away with speeding and illegal parking more times than I can count, and the cops couldn't do anything about it, heh."

New Aeyariss wrote:"Good evening to you, Lucia-ojo!" she was addressed by no one but the Empress herself "I am glad to welcome you to the Empire of Greater Nifon.

Not long after entering the dining room, I was greeted by the Empress of Nifon, who personally welcomed me and showed me to my seat at the table. She was gorgeous with an equally charming voice and a friendly demeanor to boot. "¡Gracias!", I replied. "I just got here, to be honest, so I haven't really had the chance to explore this place, but I'd love to after dinner. And it's great to be here too."

As a member of royalty, I was invited to sit at the very front, and the VIPs would go immediately after me, so I'd still get to sit next to Val and the brunette in the green dress. "Come on," I said to the two ladies. "Let's continue our little conversation at the table. We could even sit together, since our sections are right beside each other."

To speak of the truth, the president of New Kowloon Bay was a prim and proper traditionalist. Always 'Your Excellency' this and 'Her Highness' that. She was half-expecting him to go on a ramble about traditional values. But never mind that now. The advisor had told her she was to be polite, and hopefully secure deals.
Yeah I don't know when I'm set in.

Mona Colaícht of the Tribe of Sligo.
Turns out the lass was actually Princess Lucia of Spain, Imperial Princess and whatnot - rang a bell somewhere, but not as loudly as Valentine Teissedre.
In any case, she seemed to be perceived as quite the number not only by Tess, who explained to her what the Teissedre Group did, but also by our hosts, who seated her next to a woman, who I identified as the Empress.
She was a classical beauty, one should say, not a young and vivid one like Nolly, and actually reminded me a lot of a porcellain doll my Grandmother had owned... pretty to look at, but don't you dare touching her!
In any case, we were invited to sit and I sat on Val's far side, her between me and Lucia and the Empress beyond her.
I greeted the latter as it was custom among my people, putting my hand over my heart and bowing my head.
Then sitting together, I remembered, that I forgot something important: "My apologies, but I seem to not introduced myself: Mona Colaícht of the Tribe of Sligo, CEO and founder of Cumscóir Aircraft Manufactories Limited - we are rather small, but we do have some impressive things, which are small and which fly." I let a beat pass. "And please, call me Mona."
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.
