And perhaps take some ideas out of a certain Fidel Castro's head. Now I've already told Ho Chi Minh that we were pulling out of 'Nam, so he's going to be one to deal, you think I should give him a call?

Also Godwin's not going to be happy with this, he was the one who came up with this idea in the first place. Wonder how you're going to deal with him, kind of strange how the Secretary in charge of the military, thinks that we shouldn't use the American military in this kind of combat, and that the American military only rides off the victory of others, but I digress."

"I'll give him a good talking to, make sure he tows the line. We can't afford to lose him, it'd be too difficult at this stage in the war."

"If you say so." William said as he looked away from the President. "Well then I suppose this meeting has fulfilled its purpose then. We're in agreement that this plan can go on no longer."

"My fellow Americans! America faces a stark reality. Communism is advancing on all fronts. Eastern Europe is kept under the Russian jackboot. The once proud and ancient Chinese people suffer under Communist tyranny. South Vietnam is trying desperately to hold back against the Communistic hordes. America itself faces an existential menace, for Communists shall not rest until all the free nations of the world are brought under their jackboot."

"America is the beacon of freedom and democracy in the world. We are the light that shines brightly and gives hope to the peoples of Earth - both those in the Free World and the ones languishing under Red Despotism; hope that one day that values of liberty, dignity and democracy shall triumph over slavery, subjugation and tyranny. We are the light to their darkness. We represent Good and they represent Evil. If we fail, Western civilization shall be destroyed, our Churches demolished, our freedoms stripped away. If we succeed, light shall once more shine upon the dark corners of this Earth, dignity shall return, slavery shall be abolished and universal democracy shall become a reality and not an utopian, idealistic vision."

"Exactly because the situation we face is existential and the stakes so damn high, we need a President who can lead America to triumph. We need someone who understands what needs to be done for the Free World to defend itself from the Red menace. I believe I can offer that leadership. As Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers in the Pacific, I collaborated with our most important allies to defeat for the first time in over two thousand years of history Imperial Japan. I believe this proves both my grasp of military strategy and my ability to cooperate with our Allies to further America's key objectives. As Leader of the Occupation of Japan, I modernized and liberalized a defeated, feudalistic society. As Commander-in-Chief of the UN Command in Korea I beat back the Communist hordes and pushed them back North."

"My longtime - and successful - tenure as Commander of multinational forces has proven that I posses the diplomatic capabilities to coordinate with our allies to further America's goals. I will bring that same leadership in cooperating and coordinating with our allies in the Free World to check Communist expansionism and to build up our collective economic and military strength. As President I shall adopt a two-pronged strategy to strengthen the Block of Freedom. Firstly, I shall substantially increase military aid to our allies to ensure they have the means to defend themselves against Red aggression; the weapons that shall be handed to our allies shall be manufactured here, in the United States, providing thousands of new, well-paying jobs for the American people! Secondly, I shall increase financial aid to our allies - to strengthen their economy and allow them in the medium-term to take upon themselves the cost of defending their nations -, but at the same time I shall tie such aid to economic reforms and anti-corruption measures to ensure effective use of our dollars and that our aid is not pocketed by corrupt politicians."

"My military experience shall allow me to lead America to victory in Vietnam. In the Pacific, I became the first man to conquer Japan in their history of over two thousand years. In Korea, I pushed the Reds out of the South. I remind you that when I first arrived in Korea, the Reds were closing in on the Pusan Perimeter and defeat seemed imminent. Some were even thinking that Korea was a lost cause. Instead, against heavy opposition, I persuaded our military leadership to launch a dashing counterattack at Inchon which broke the back of the North Korean war machine. I know how to win wars in Asia."

"As President, I will use my military experience - my knowledge of strategy, tactics and logistics - to cooperate smoothly with our military leadership. I shall change our military dogma. Instead of adopting a defensive posture and spending years fighting a fruitless jungle guerrilla war, I shall launch an invasion of North Vietnam. With a single, decisive campaign, we shall reunify Vietnam under liberal, capitalist rule and end the war, bringing back home our boys as victors and liberators."

"On Cuba, I shall give the regime a choice: if they sever ties with the Soviets, we shall grant them economic aid and help them reconstruct their nation. If they refuse to do so, I shall put an end to their regime. We cannot allow a Communist base right next to America! As President, I will never allow America to be threatened!"

"But a nation cannot be strong abroad if it is weak at home. We cannot defend the Free World, if we do not maintain - and increase - economic growth. Only capitalism can produce the wealth necessary to elevate the standards of living of Americans and to give us the strength to defend ourselves from Communism. My policies are based not on some economics theory, but on things I and millions like me were brought up with: an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay; live within your means; put by a nest egg for a rainy day; support the police."

"As President, I aim to substantially reduce both income and corporate taxation. By reducing taxes on individuals and allowing them to keep more of their hard-earned money, we boost consumption as they will have more money to spend. This means increased profits for the neighborhood shops and thus the local communities at large. By reducing corporate taxation, we will allow businesses to expand their operations, creating new, well-paying jobs in the process."

"But reducing taxation is not only the economically correct thing to do; it is also the moral thing to do. How can we talk about social justice when the people who sweat and toil all day long have to surrender their hard-earned money to useless bureaucrats in DC? How is that social justice? How can we talk about social justice when bureaucrats who don't know the next thing about you and your family make decisions about how you should spend your hard-earned money? How is that social justice?"

"I myself believe that every man should have the right to spend their money - after a minimal, necessary tax - as they wish, and not as the government dictates. I believe that each individual is unique, with their own dreams and desires, and that they know best what to do with their money. Some politicians in DC dismiss Americans as children who need the government to act as their parent and manage their lives. Some bureaucrats in DC see Americans as simply soulless numbers. I see Americans as responsible adults, as individuals who know better how to manage their lives than some elitists in DC! You are not numbers! You are persons! You should be able to pursue your own dreams and desires."

"Some in DC have grand visions on bringing everyone down in the name of 'equality'. They say that we need sky-high taxes that burden our hard workers because of 'equality'. The pursuit of equality itself is a mirage. What’s more desirable and more practicable than the pursuit of equality is the pursuit of equality of opportunity. And opportunity means nothing unless it includes the right to be unequal and the freedom to be different. One of the reasons that we value individuals is not because they’re all the same, but because they’re all different. We must build a society in which each citizen can develop his full potential, both for his own benefit and for the community as a whole, a society in which originality, skill, energy and thrift are rewarded, in which we encourage rather than restrict the variety and richness of human nature. I believe that the person who is prepared to work hardest should get the greatest rewards and keep them. That we should back the workers and not the shirkers: that it is not only permissible but praiseworthy to want to benefit your own family by your own efforts."

"As President, I shall put an end to costly red tape and overregulation. This type of red tape only serves to cost countless of dollars to the American people and to burden small businesses. Big corporations can afford the cost placed upon them by overt regulations. Rather, it is the mom and pop of the neighborhood shop that bear the burden of red tape, which drives up costs and forces them to raise the price of goods in order to stay in business. This burdens unduly the American worker, who has to pay more for basic products. It also puts the mom and pop store at disadvantage compared to big corporations. Politicians on the left who want more regulations and more red tape in reality want to eradicate small stores and to drive up the prices of goods."

"I aim to put an end to this. I am not a radical and I understand the need for certain regulations. We do need common-sense regulations that protect our workers from abuse and the consumers from unsafe products. But we do not need regulations that only add up red tape and make government a co-owner of every shop in America. This needs to end. By slashing those regulations, we will substantially reduce the burden placed upon businesses, allowing them to reduce the price of their products. This will make every-day goods cheaper for the American worker to buy while also driving up economic growth."

"We also need a healthcare reform that will balance the need for the welfare of our elderly with prudent management of our economy. I believe we should be offering health insurance to the elderly that they can choose to purchase, instead of it being mandatory as proposed by some on the left. It's a good compromise, I believe."

"But even with those substantial economic reforms, our economy will not be able to maintain - and increase - growth if we are disunited and face widespread social unrest. Indeed, those divisions threaten to weaken us to such an extend that we will be handing the Reds in Kremlin victory on their plate. Why is unity so important? Let me tell you a short story I've learned in Japan about the medieval Mongol warlords Genghis Khan. When Genghis Khan was young, he was arguing constantly with his brothers, so his mother called the Khan and his four brothers to her tent. She gave them an arrow each and told them to break it. The brothers broke it with ease. She then gave a bundle of five arrows to each brother, and asked them to break them. Much as they tried, they did not manage to break the arrows. So the mother told them, 'if you are on your own, you will be easily broken like the single arrow. If you are like united like the bundle of arrows, nothing will be able to break you'."

"America needs to be like that bundle of arrows, which could not be broken. Extremists on the right and left threaten this unity. Extremists on the right seek to deny basic human dignity to our fellow citizens. Extremists on the left seek to disregard our system of federalism and states' rights and to impose their grand visions upon the people of the South. Both extremists - for their personal political gain - weaken America. A House divided cannot stand. An America in which citizens hate each other and riots destroy our streets cannot stand up to the Soviet Empire."

"As President, I will seek to rectify this; not through government diktats or top-down solutions. But rather by compromise. I shall form a bipartisan Congressional committee, made up of Senators and Representatives from both parties and from North and South, to come up with a plan that will address the concerns of both the Southern folk and the Northern folk, the colored people and the white people. A plan that will unite Americans and not divide them. It will be a long and difficult process; but one that is necessary to keep our nation united in the face of Communist aggression."

"As President, I shall restore law and order in this country. We've seen riots, gangs, drugs. Crime is soaring. Our youth - the future of our nation - is being corrupted. The moral fabric of our society is on the verge of collapse. As President, I shall increase federal aid to state and local law enforcement agencies, to help them hire more officers. I will reform the justice system, in order to see sentences harshened and ensure that criminals stay in jail where they belong! I shall crack down on crime, rioting and disorder! Violent 'activists' who riot, murder and pillage shall be dealt most harshly. I will launch a nation-wide War on Drugs to put an end to the drug epidemic! I shall drastically increase sentences for dealers and users. I will promote a campaign in our schools to warn the youth of the dangers of drug abuse."

"I will reform our education system. We cannot allow our youth to succumb to drugs, anarchy and immoral behavior. We need an educational system that will promote traditional morality, family values, faith in God and patriotism! I will criminalize burning the flag; I will not allow communists to disrespect our veterans and desecrate the symbol of this great nation! I would rather die than see our flag desecrated; for I love this flag, and I love this nation. I love America! I shall heed the call for a Morality Amendment that will outlaw abortion. We should defend the rights of the unborn. For the unborn have no voice to defend their rights, we must do it for them. I've noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born. Quite hypocritical on their part I would say."

"I am an outsider. I am not a career politicians. I served for years the American people in the Pacific War and the Korean War. I aim to be your champion in DC. As President, I will champion the rights of the American people instead of cozying up to the elites! I will lead a government by and for the people, and not one by and for the elites! With me, you will get someone who will actually fight for you in DC! But for this to happen, I need your support. For alone, I am but one man. But with your support, we are a movement! And a movement cannot be stopped! Together we can make American even greater! God Bless you and God Bless the United States of America!!!"

For example, if we did weaken Taft-Hartley, it'd be politically feasible to pardon those charged in relation to violations deemed no longer criminal. We can reach 'compromises' on policies that then provide a rationale for pardons, but we can't promise standalone pardons, especially for a blanket of things we don't know of. Spending one's first few weeks in office pardoning those who've given you a political support is a very good way to lose the moral and ethical high ground early into an administration and therefore undermine one's political position. I don't want Tom spending a presidency cleaning up after what got him there, at that point you have no power, you're simply carried along by necessities and debts."

Senator Sharp Speaks to Large Crowd in Georgia
Atlanta, Georgia
August 25th, 1959

"Hello all y'all Atlantians! Ain't y'all that old-ass 'lization that got sunk by a bath tub inna Plato's book? I don't 'member much from my high skoolin'. Probably because I skipped my high skoolin' fer a good ol' fashioned job! What's that? Oh. Atlanta, not Atlantis. Oops. That's mightily emma'bare'essin' mind all yous. Yep, that makes more than one o' my cheecks red wit 'mbaresmeent! Yesirree bobby!

Now. It is high time we have a President in the White House that honors some of the best southern boys n' girls this side o' Sippii! I don't want no damned senagambian pollutin' thems waters o' the White House. If I am elected President, I will pass an executive order on my very, very first day that will segregate the Federal Work force. I don't give a rat's ass what the court's say, I was not elected nor am I beholden to eight justices of this country. I am beholden to the people of this country! Good, poor white fellers like me n' you! The Negroes in a Sharp Administration will be pushed back either into the seas or we might have to take a few pointers from the noble and honorable Caucasian Civil Rights organization known as the Ku Klux Klan! As long as the darkie don't mess too badly with the white man's power, he'll get along just fine with us white fellers. I don't want them to stir up no good trouble. Trouble ain't goood folks. I don't want the darkies to arm themselves and start massacerin' us poor white folks! That is how you get race riots in this country! Though, It will give us white fellers a caucas beli to wipe out the slimey, stinkin' commie lovin' Senegambian once and for all, so there's a silver linnin' inna everythin' folks!

The Davis Administration's policies are hell-bent on desegregating the south! They are hell-bent on forcing the ape onto the poor white woman! They are hell-bent on the crimes of miscegenation and mongrelization. If a Republican wins the White House or even some Democrats a runnin' there will be hell to pay! However, there is, one exception. Earl Boone agrees with me that he will not support a civil rights bill. That's what I inferred from him in the years I have known for the man. You need just look back at his votin' record with me. He joined me in voting against the Civil Rights Act of 1957. For that I handily applaud the man for his efforts in defendin' the White Race! As a note, I will emphatically state that this is NOT an endorsement of Earl, just an earnest agreement between two southern gentlemen that keepin' the negro down and the price of cotton up as a mutually beneficial goal for both me and the Senate Whip from Tennessee.

Now, for as much as I attack the man on the campaign trail, sometimes he does the right thing for the white man! He is a personal friend of mine. I was a reeal, real rowdy son of a bitch when I first got to the U.S Senate all those years ago. I was unpopular, so unpopular in my home state that they got thinkin' o' crowin' some textile millionaire as a replacement. I can't remember what Frank Turner was doing then, but I believe he was neutral in the other senate race. That's a rare thing, so I was damned happy to take his neutrality. As long as he wasn't bitin' at my heels for one of his family members to get me outta the Senate, He's a friend o' mine.

Now, '48 I had to campaign against a millionaire. That man, I believe it was Perkins. Now this 'ere 'Perkins' was an heir to a massive cotton fortune. His daddy set 'em on up to run agaisnt me. He was runnin' on a flood o' money straight from big daddy's pockets. I remember that he never, ever ran a single fundraisin' opportunity. That worked out well fer me, so I ran with the experince o' my former Representative days. I ran long and hard agaisnt him. I crisscrossed the entire state and spoke on keepin' the price o' cotton up and the negro down. I tried the good race-batin' that y'all've come to know n' love.

They will continue or even improve upon the so called 'negro rights' that they proport to give 'em. I quote James K. Vardaman of my native Mississippi: 'The only effect of Negro education is to spoil a good field hand and make an insolent cook.' I would rather the negro's fine, fine skills in the agricultural area are not soiled by unwarranted, unneeded and totally illegal efforts in educatin' 'em. We don't want 'em thinkin' he's better than us. The Negro is inferior in every moral fiber bein' to the white man and the white race! We want 'em as simply beside us, and in separate facilities. Hell, they don't even have to be 'equal' like the illegal n' immoral Supreme Court's so-called ruling, actually called travesty of justice purporting itself as 'Brown v. Board of Education.'

The Negro can get an education, it must just be second rate to a white man's education. This is paramount to my platform and many of y'all belives onna the matter! Only a white man can be fully knowledgeable in such matters of governance. The white man has a key eye for good business sense and is a time honored traditional family man of the anglo-saxon persuasion. But, I want to say this nice thing about the negros. It might tank me in the polls, but it's true! All the negroes I've ever met... they've been excellent servants, bartenders n' waitresses. They know that there's no advantage in speakin' out against the white man, so they simply abide their time. They can work alongside us, so long as we're the one's givin' out orders!

We give the negro a place to stay, like in the good old fashioned slavery and sharecroppin' systems of my native Mississippi. If the Negro nods his Senegambian head and keeps those blue-gums o' his shut tight unless he's gotta question 'bout his task, he'll live a long and prosperous life under the benevolent White Massa! The Negro needs not political participation, but societal separation, save in the few areas that whites and blacks get along just fine. It's like what I always say: 'Y'all can teach a negro to farm, y'all don't got no problem with him knowin' how to use a gun.

I make no promises nor no backroom deals. I will be a Prez'dent that'll be blunt inna my speakin' manner. It's the same blunt way that my M'ssippiian frens n' neighbors all love n' talk 'bout! I propose that instead of a so called 'civil rights amendment', I propose the exact opposite. a 'civil order amendment'. It will criminalize all forms of miscegenation, race relations and race mixing in our local and federal government. It will make the Ku Klux Klan as the 'Defenders of Racial Purity.' They will be charged within the office of a hypothetical 'U.S Department of Eugenics and Caucasian Unity'.

Now, I will begin my attack run agaisnt General "Jap" Jackson. I don't see what the big ol' deal is. 'He licked the Japs'. Yes, so did the Mongols! I don't see his here point. Sure, you can govern seventy million people, but the man was not chosen for his administrative prowess, but for his military conquerin'. His management o' Jee-Paan thoroughly suppressed free speech. He crushed the speech o' fascists! Now, I ain't a fan o' fascism as much as the other person, but I don't think y'all ought to supress 'em. If y'all wanna be a communist y'all can be a communist. I don't got no problems with that. It's a frr-free country n' shit like that.

But, there are rumors that "Jap" Jackson fathered a Japanese child with a Jap broad. Maybe the 'Tokyo Rose' had a chance encounter with the General and a night in tokyo secured her 'pardon'? Y'all never know folks! That's miscegenation and he will be ordered to be judged in a fair trail in a Sharp Administration for the crime of miscegenation. How can a mighty general of Anglo-Saxon blood be tempted by an inferior race such as the damned Japs? White blood ought to not cross with filthy yellow blood, that is a fact by eugenics and Charles Darwin! It's an indisputable fact that race mixin' is communism, or in this case: fascism! Y'all can't see it possible! But it is possible! I ain't relyin' onna tabloids, I heard this story from a 'reputable source o' information.' I ain't gonna diverge it because his job would be at risk from (not McCarthy).

But, for a moment folks, allow me to extend my deepest sympathies to the political career of Robinette Wilson Carter. He will forever be entombed throughout future high skool textbooks as either a footnote or in the local library book as an 'also ran'. But, I'm not one to poke too much fun at the liberal. W'all is Americans, and I'm thankful that he said to himself: 'I can do this'. I will say the most glowin' things about the man's candidacy. It may have been organized like an idiot, but it was run with about as much passion as both of my senate runs combine! No, all four of my house runs too!

Robinette-Wilson-Carter has a glowin' future ahead of him in the Republican Party. I may have rarely agreed with the man, but I greatly appreciate new ideas into our political discourse. I am disappointed in his withdrawal from the race, and I say this from the bottom of my heart, I wish him the best in life. I also wish, no... I hope his wife's campaign is successful in the governorship. It may stink of a family dynasty, but I say, give 'em a chance. That is why I am endorsin' Miss Carter for Governor of Mee che Gain! I wish her campaign the best of luck, so long as she ain't too busy inna the kitchen to manage the governor's mansion!

With that, I leave to y'all with exhausted lungs but a fulfilled purpose. We ain't gonna let the negro git his equal rights. That will occur if you vote for any other Democrat in this race. I am the only candidate that is promising to keep the price o' cotton up and the negro down! 'Member folks, White Rights? He FIGHTS! Thank all y'all Atlanta, god bless all y'all and god bless the Confederac-I mean the United States!"

Carole smiled, her cheeks taking on a rose tint as she embraced Molly. “Oh, Molly... you’re absolutely glowing, as always.” Mrs. Stoltzman returned the greeting, planting a quick kiss on both sides of her face before turning to acknowledge Mr. Delaney.

“Oh, Tom should be here any second now...”, Carole answered between giggles, taking a moment to laugh at the Senator’s Oscar quip.

Not a moment later, Thomas appeared in the doorway beside his wife.

“Quent, There you are!”, the Governor beamed, reaching out to shake Quentin’s hand.

“Goodness Tom, you gave me a fright!”

“Sorry dear”, Thomas apologized sheepishly.

Carole looked up at the light purple-blue of the afternoon sky. “Why don’t we head inside? It’s a little warmer by the fireplace, and there’s dinner too”

"Hey Tom," Quentin said warmly, shaking Tom's hand firmly and clapping the Governor on the back. The pair hadn't known one another terribly long--Quentin had come up through Hollywood and into Congress well before Tom had begun his own career--but they were fond of one another. The Delaneys followed Carole and Tom into the Mansion, Molly admiring the decor the whole way

"Now Carole, I know you didn't build the place, but you've got a great eye for decoration...it's just lovely," Molly said, running a hand along the wall, "I'm honestly a little jealous."

"Jealous? Of this rinky-dink little shack?" Quentin joked lightheartedly, winking at Tom, "Now Molly, don't lie to her. Carole doesn't deserve that. Tom, on the other hand..."

Tom laughed, shaking his head. “Now what’re ya talking about? This is a proper mansion. This is some fine real-estate!”

“Well thank you Molly. It’s not much, but I try”, Carole bashfully admitted.

The four came around to the parlor where the table was set for dinner. Steak, cheese soufflé, and a myriad of dishes had been prepared. The fireplace was glowing.

“I hope this is well and good for you” Carole piped.

The Governor took his seat beside his wife. Once Quentin and Molly were seated, he spoke.

“Well Quent, I’m not going to beat around the bush on this one, I’ve invited you here to talk with you and Molly about your entrance in the Presidential election. How long was this planned out, and more importantly how’re the two of you doing?”

Molly Beauregard, it must be noted, was a highly intelligent woman, and the rumors that she'd been managing her husband's campaigns from behind the scenes suddenly seemed quite a bit more valid.

"If Quent can split conservatives with Jackson and moderates with Fraser he should be in a good spot headed into the convention. The real question," Molly said with a smirk, "is what you're doing, Tom."

Senator Boone Campaigns in Orlando, Speaks About Foreign Policy, Cold War Vigilance
Delivered Live in Orlando, Florida to local crowds
Broadcast over Radio and Television throughout the United States on August 27, 1959

"My fellow Americans, tonight I wish to speak to you about the state of our economy, and the state of the Cold War—two vitally important challenges that must be undertaken by our next president. They are intertwined challenges; if America wants to boast a capable defense against the Red Menace then it must also boast a capable economy. An economy capable of rising to this century’s greatest challenge. I want to focus on these issues because I can guarantee you that these are winning issues.

"I believe that we need more vigilance in the area of defense, for both military equipment and for missile development. We currently have a missile gap with the Soviet Union. President Davis has my respect, but to be frank, he has not done enough. In fact, the only contribution of the Republican Party to our country as of recent is the fumbling of leadership over Vietnam and last year's aptly named Davis Recession. In the wake of the Davis Recession, the stability of our economy is far from certain. The record employment rates which F.D.R. achieved have been completely eroded as the Republicans have demonstrated a total disregard for fulfilling the New Deal. The very New Deal which hoisted us out of the Great Depression, and allowed us to win World War II! Does anybody here remember the breadlines? The dismal unemployment? Without the New Deal, the United States of America may not have survived those dark years. Today’s situation is equally important—another four years of a Republican presidency would be the suffering of our farmers and laborers, the decay of our public works, and the waning of our defense and technology sectors in the face of waxing Soviet power. Our nation is flagging behind the Soviet Union in military technology. As I said, we have a missile gap. If we want to win the fight in Vietnam and win the many fights to come, we need strong policies which allow the United States to be the best it can be! Under Davis, the NASA program has yet to accomplish anything of note— whereas the Soviet Union launched its first satellite into space over a year ago. These weaknesses have emboldened our enemies from the jungles of Viet-nam to the domes of the Kremlin itself! That our country is on the back foot in a matter of national security is highly concerning to all patriots. As Floridans, y’all understand that Cuba is right across a very small width of water. The revolt and the potential for Soviet involvement with Cuba could be catastrophic, not only for your beautiful state, but for the rest of the nation, and the world. That is why as the strongest candidate on defense, I promise you that I will not flinch from the duty of protecting the United States from any and all communist threats, including Cuba. I will protect you and your wonderful home at all costs.

"But at the same time, you would figure that every dollar spent on defense is taken from more productive uses within our economy. So you would expect that with all of this failure to supply the military, the Republican Party has to have some dynamic plan for helping the working people—America’s backbone, right? Well, unfortunately that is not the case. In Congress, Republicans consistently shoot down progress in partisan squabbles, and neither the platform of Jackson nor Wilson-Carter nor Fraser adequately aid the working man. I have not heard from Delaney but I would be shocked if he produced anything of note. My policies will enable us to raise sufficient funds to promote general welfare for the hard-working, as well as adequately fund the military so that we can take on the Red Menace. Under my administration, we will not need to stoop down and find common ground with the Soviet Union so that we can cut defense spending. The funds will be there, so long as we pass meaningful legislation, encourage government bonds and prevent the inequitable hoarding of wealth by that shadowy few who have grown too comfortable exploiting America.

"It is now that I ask your support, Florida. My candidacy is a call to arms against the forces which seek to tear our country apart. Our democracy threatens to collapse, while Soviet Russia readies itself to pounce on our decadence. I bid you take up arms with me, now, and rally the nation against the Communist threat. Elect me, Senator Earl Boone, as your President, and together we shall see that America remain the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave, forever.

"God bless you all, and goodnight."

Senator Sharp Campaigns in Syracuse, Attempts to Woo Conservative Republicans into the Democratic Party
Syracuse, New York
August 27th, 1959

"Many thanks to all y'all for having the time, patience and stomach to listen to an old wind-bag like myself! Now, unfortunately as of now, there lacks a defining, conservative voice on your side of the spectrum. I mean in the current state of the Presidential race for the Republicans. I have heard rumors that more people will be jumpin' into the race, but those are just rumors. We don't know for sure if that Calee-fornia feller, or either of 'em are gonna jump on inna the race. I'm just speculatin' here folks, but I'll bet all y'all my shinny-shinnyest lookin' Nickle that one o' 'em's gonna jump on in the mess that is amerikan politics every four years!

Many o' all y'all must be a wonderin' what in the sam hell is a Dixiecrat like me doin' inna upstate Neew Yark? Did I git lost some how? Well...that's part o' the reason. Heh-heh-heh! But, the other side to my a march up' north like Sherman did wit thems southern fellers is to talk to all y'all. It ain't a north-south deevide at the enda the day. W'all is a good, god lovin' bible thumpin' church goin' Americans through n' through! Unfortunately folks, in the U.S Senate, y'all are represented by the one senator from New York... that there.. woman. Sofia Fraser. Y'all are represented inna Albany by Governor Fraser. Now, I ain't gonna critique their personal lives. That ain't fittin' for any man to git down inna the mud n' dirt n' shit like that. Y'all attack yer opponents on matters o' policy, not what or who they fuck inna their private life! My disagreements with them start in the halls of Congress and on the Campaign trail and end at the Dinner table. Which, by the way, I would like to have them over sometime to meet.

Y'all've also got that super liberal feller named Joe Pole, or Warzawski. I may disagree with the man on the 'peculiar institution' as it was said inna my heyday, but that don't mean I don't like throwin' back coca colas with the man in my senate office on occasion. Before partisanship, y'all must put the horse 'fore the cart. Then y'all can move on forward as a good ol' specie, y'all hear? As I have said before, I don't see eye t' eye on the Liberal wing of my Democratic Party.

Hell, I don't see eye to eye always on the Mainstream of the Boone Clique n' his gang o' lackies, or Democratic Party. But, I do look on' out there n' I see men n' wimmen whomst I can respect in the Reepublican Party. Men n' wimmen who've got the guts to stand on up to the super-liberal wing of the Republican Party n' firmly stake out a position fer the right wing. If y'all weren't there, therd be just us Conservative Democrats n' Liberal Republicans. Y'alled be all shut on out. Yer voices must be heard this election yeer. The only reason why I ain't a Republican is that I don't wanna lose my Senate seat inna M'ssippii!

I haven't not received no update as to what in the sam hell is happenin' o'er there inna vee-yet nam, or hell, even Cuba. Honestly, Cuba is a much more pressin' matter. Both battlefields are monumentally important fer America's image o'er the globe as a defender o' the white- I mean Democracy n' her republics. The difference is this. Ho Chi Mihn can't set nuclear tipped missiles there to threaten the White House. The most he'd threaten is our friends in the Republic of China. Mister Castro possibly could set up a whole lotta bombers n' rain hellfire down upon us folks. I don't want war as much as any one here.

The only fools that get us into wars are those who sit behind cushy desks, like General Jackson durin' his warin' o'er the Pacific! Jackass Jackson never fired a shot in anger durin' his fightin' days! In contrast, I fought n' bled for America durin' the hell that was Belleau Wood. I was a machine gunner, so it was more than one shot, if y'all can imagine that! Ha ha ha! But, first folks, I want to say that I respect Jackson for his wartime service. He's a veteran same as I. Only he dosen't have a lick of politics in his body. He's a military man. Sure, this country elected Pike, but that's besides the point. In this country's history, we have had able politicians that didn't fight inna wars. Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Delano Roosevelt I might add, never fired a bullet in their lives! Yet they lead us to victory inna Worl War Wan n' Worl' War 'Two ree-spective-lee! One's military service or lack there of shouldn't not hold 'gainst thems fellers.

Apart from me comparin' myself to the average joe, y'all must be a wonderin' what I'm plannin' on doin' when I git to the White House. Apart from movin' my rickety ol' bed from Cedar Grove myself, I shall run a small ol' gubment. I will hand power back to the states. I will deregulate this large ol' economy o' ours, and I shall trim away at such harmful things such as un-needed social nets that have developed over the FDR n' Hammond Presidencies. I firmly belive that large gubment is the worst. Y'all've had this New-Deal of rank n' file socialism n' communism breathin' down our necks wit their boots onna our faces. I'd say It's high time we trim Uncle Sam's beaurecratic beard. He needs a clean shave o' state's rights! The right fer the States to manage things on their own. Rugged Individualism, not conformity! It's an American trait as ol' as the foundin' o' this wonderful country!

I will also slash taxes across thems boards. Fer everyone. Yes, even them rich fat cats will get a break. Not too much of a break, but a small bit o' breathin' room fer the fellers that pump money inna the economy n' create jobs n' biznesses. Y'all citizens roles is to fill these jobs, work damn hard, git yer pay check and when the tax man comes round next April, Y'all don't gots to pay as much. Hell, y'all will be able to keep yer hard earned cash in your pockets if y'all wanna hep on out yer community! If everyone gits a tax cut, then thems gubments will be able to raise tariffs to compensate. That is my great economic plan, n' it's reeal simple:

I call it 'Redneck Economics':

1. Lower taxes on EVERYONE in this here country.

2. Raise Tariffs to PROTECT American industries n' jobs from foreign competition and to compensate the government for lost revenue from the tax cuts.

I will also touch upon a proposal o' mine from a lil' ol pamphlet I had printed out. If y'all Americans want a home, then y'all ought to work hard for it. That's somethin' y'all agree upon, right? I hope so. I don't want to just hand out homes to the homeless, who then turn around, don't maintain it or even pay their taxes on the property! I don't want to just grant the government more socialism n' commie-nism with this proposal. A proposal mind all y'all, that was cooked up by EARL n' his band o' communist senagam-I mean soviet politburo pals! In Russia they give everyone an equally shitty home. In America, y'all need to work hard for your chance to have a home. It's social Darwinism folks plain n' simple!

Now folks, absorb the mad rant I have just oh so gracefully preformed for all y'all. Keep inna mind, are y'all better off than y'all were eight years ago or even twenty? Are y'all alarmed at the retreatin' march o' yer community leaders such as Fraser who want the big gubment to step on in? Then if y'all have yer concerns, I'd like y'all to wonder that y'all might have been lookin' at the wrong elephant inna the room. Y'all might just need to look on at the Donkey. It's food fer thought folks, I ain't tryin' too hard t' persuade y'all, just nudgin' ya inna a direction. Maybe us Dix-I mean Democrats n' Republicans can work on preventin' the Liberal wing o' our parties from demolishin' conservative heaven inna favour o' an uber liberal hell! No maliciousness onna my part no siree bob! Thank y'all Albany Republicans, God Bless all y'all n' good night!"

“Precisely. The Democratic stage is absolutely dismal at the moment, with the exception of maybe Boone, but that doesn’t change the fact that his agenda is one more radical than what the average American supports. But hopefully with Turner and Sharp likely competing over the same constituency for support, neither will advance far enough.”, Thomas said.

“But Turner’s trying time play the moderate, which is why we need to set the record straight.”, Carole added.

Thomas laughed at Molly’s remark. “I’m sure he would”, he chuckled, before answering her question. “I seek to take the left away from Ladhe by endorsing progress on civil rights. While Ladhe was once the exclusive candidate for such support, his fumbling in Congress which allowed Turner to corrupt the CREA can be played on to prove that he is not the warrior that this country needs at the forefront of advancing civil rights. In other areas, I seek to be moderate so as to take support out from under Turner and Boone. There are many moderates and even liberals who support Boone because he’s the only sane candidate among the lot. We can change that. There are many moderates and liberals who support Turner because of his lies and false rhetoric. We can expose that with our true character. The goal is to play to the center of the party and out-class the rabble rousers by avoiding direct mudslinging.”

“The country is growing tired of the immature squabbles of those four men. They’ll like someone who acts calm and trustworthy. Like a real leader. I imagine Quent could benefit by the same means between what Fraser and Wilson-Carter are doing. Jackson’s the real challenge to your campaign.”, Carole said, looking at Molly.

Proud Libertarian Socialist

Resistance is the only path to freedom under tyranny. Power to the people and down with those who would subvert their will. In the name of justice, we must fight.

Anti-capitalist. Anti-fascist. Anti-authoritarian.

The Senator has agreed to meet Wilson-Carter in Michigan once his Tour of The South is completed. Beyond that, he’d accept a phone conversation at the Governor’s earliest convenience.

Governor Wilson-Carter proceeds to call the Senator.

Governor Wilson-Carter proceeds to call the Senator.

“Good afternoon Governor, to what do I owe the pleasure?”, Boone responded on the other end in his characteristic southern drawl. The call was just on time; just as scheduled.

"Good afternoon," Wilson-Carter agreed. "As you may or may not have heard, I have dropped from the race and endorsed you for the presidency. Typically, I would have let you know beforehand, but there wasn't time given the situation I was in. I'd like to discuss what I can do to help boost your campaign across the north-- and what we can do to stop the likes of Fraser, Jackson, Ladhe, Turner, and Sharp from winning even a House race."

“Yes, I have heard. I’d like to thank you for the endorsement. It takes a lot of guts to know when to drop out of a race, let alone to endorse someone from the opposing party. Tell me what you think you can do about the North...”

"To be honest, Senator, my wife is a long-time Democrat. The pair of us could probably pull Michigan, Iowa, maybe Illinois your way. As long as Fraser isn't the nominee, we'd have a strong chance in New York, Ohio, and several other states. California is certainly going to start leaning a little bluer this year."

“Yes, I have heard of your wife’s campaign for Governor. Abilene Wilson-Carter, correct? An inspiring woman if I ever heard of one. Well, of you can do anything to help me, it would be to have your wife speak and perhaps campaign on my behalf. My campaign is a winning campaign you see, and if the field remains as is I’ll blow all the other Democrats outta the water, since Turner and Lahde and Sharp are all madmen. The Democratic Party in 1960 will need to be in lock-step with my platform to succeed, and I think it’d be wonderful if Abilene’s gubernatorial campaign was on the front lines of that effort. We can make a really unified showing if Democrats from me down on to gubernatorial candidates such as your wife’s, senatorial campaigns and then other lower positions all echo what I’ve been talking about. My success could be her success, just as her success would be mine, you see?”

The Senator paused, and thought for a second. “And then on your end, Robin, I’d obviously appreciate some support of my policies, but above all I need you to start campaigning for the General Election. By that, I mean that I need you to go on the attack against the Republican candidates, pointing out how Fraser or Jackson or Delaney are not worthy of the presidency. I’ll give you the discretion on the messaging, so don’t go on the attack just yet, but it’d be real helpful if you could go out and campaign against those fellas in the Republican Primary while your wife and I campaign for my nomination. Just wait for me to give you some attack lines and a general plan of what to campaign on, I don’t want there to be mixed messaging between our two fronts, ya hear?”

"I understand completely, Senator," Wilson-Carter answered. "Abilene will be absolutely thrilled. I have... one small request that I would like to ask of you..." He paused for a few seconds. "The system, in many ways, is broken, and Congress is responsible for breaking it. Not you, of course, but your predecessors... Anyways, what I'm getting at is that we need to fix the system now before it gets worse, and we can do that by repealing the Reapportionment Act of 1929. I don't want you to promise that you'll repeal it-- in DC, that's nigh on impossible promise to make. I want you to promise that you'll think about it."
