As Professor Satothrú made the topic quite broad on purpose, I don't think, that she'll need much convincing in letting someone talk about a modern fortification - which is where the fun part comes in: Students will research the history and architecture of one fortification of their choosing, be it in the Free Lands or abroad, and will include the analyzation of (at least) one source for that, presenting their findings.
Of course, you can write the presentation out or write the paper, but that is NOT mandatory.
