SwimAO is being hosted by Mlima Kijani at the newly constructed Buyobanza Water Park, which features an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a variety of water slide amusements, and several km of razor-tipped chain link fence to keep out any Kijanis attempting to use the facilities. Buyobanza was a small village a few years ago, its chief claim to fame being the birth place of young hero of the independence struggle, Chane Njuguna. 25 years later, Buyobanza is a thriving metropolis, a city of steel and glass built on land where mud huts once stood. Mr Njuguna – now President of Mlima Kijani (as well as President of the National Swimming Council, President of the Water Board, and President of the Council of Presidents) – has an opulent mansion in the outskirts of his city and many members of his extended family enjoy similarly luxurious living standards. The newly opened Shamso-Ruhahangu Hotel, a 4-star facility, will house athletes and press for the duration of SwimAO. Workers manning ticket stands or the water treatment facility will instead slink off to the ramshackle collection of rusting corrugated iron shacks forming the immense shanty town that borders Buyobanza (but have no fear, interaction with the criminal gangs that run many parts of these slums will not be needed thanks to the well-heeled private security services on hand at all times).

Mlima Kijani does not have a strong swimming tradition, and indeed around 50% of the population lack access to clean water. (Most of this 50% live in the west, however, in Mkusesa tribal lands far from those of Mr Njuguna’s Ruhangoro people.) As such the decision to host an international swimming event has not been without controversy, although the national anti-corruption czar Ezekiel Njuguna has declared the process “totally free from any hint of graft”, a verdict that will sit well with his uncle, and which seems to have earned Mr Njuguna junior a new high performance sports car. Defenders of the decision to host the event have pointed to foreign revenue from TV rights deals, and the importance of getting the Kijani name on the regional stage for something other than topping World Census rankings in poverty and disease. A multi-million shilling “Visit Kijani!” tourism advertisement program is planned to run alongside the competition, and there are legacy plans to use the new swimming facility as a resort for high-level business conferences.

After an opening defeat to Pacitalia -- of all teams, PACITALIA!!! The Sarzonian national Quidditch team began to resemble the side that won the Quidditch World Cup for the second time.

The Stars won two straight group stage matches to qualify for the knockout rounds as group winners, then defeated Equestria in the quarterfinals. That leaves an unfamiliar opponent, but a recent familiar foe.

Squornshelous. Granted, this team brands itself as Independent Athletes from Squornshelous, and many of the central figures in the diplomatic row between the Imperium and the Incorporated States are now out of power. That doesn't necessarily mean the price of Squornshelan coffee in a Woodstock greasy spoon or a spot of Sarzonian tea is going to drop any time soon.

"The provisional government has expressed that they're trying to get their own house in order first," a spokesman for Acting Senior Vice President and External Affairs Officer Tam Carter said. "We've offered assistance in helping them get off the ground, but thus far we haven't heard back from them yet."

Any lingering tension between the countries is most likely going to manifest itself on the Quidditch pitch as the Stars and their traditional flying brooms get set to battle the flying motorcycles used by the Squornshelans. Manager Chris Entwistle said the team weren't concerned about the different mode of transport.

"I'm focusing more on what we need to do to capture the snitch," he said. "We have one opportunity to ensure a place on top of the medals podium, and that's what I'm working towards."

Speaking of medals, Sarzonia earned two gold medals in swimming to go along with a silver and a bronze. It's a result that has brought some cheer back to a nation that is still smarting from the repercussions of the Foxchester Declaration.

"Sarzonia loves winners," said Entwistle, "and we're pleased to see our swimmers have helped bring some to us."

With the men's national team in training camp for World Cup of Hockey 43, and beginning play at the tournament during the AOHC tournament, it was decided that the women's national team from the recent Winter Olympic Games would compete at the home tournament. The women's team are exceptionally talented themselves, with the national domestic league receiving a great deal of funding and support from local authorities. The men's team in Siovanija & Teusland are renowned for their brutal physicality as well as their speed and skill - the women's team aren't quite as physical, but they are still strong on the puck, and they look to use skill and speed even more to their advantage in games. Jessi Baten is the captain and star of this team - arguably the most famous female athlete in the country. The hope for the home tournament is that the team can reach at least the Final, and perhaps come away with the AOHC gold medal.

The national women’s hockey team are a fast, skilled team, capable of outscoring any opponent. The superstar, and the biggest name in domestic women’s hockey, is Jessi Baten, the dominant Stelburg Kaiserins centre. She gets a reunion with her club team linemates Thiel and Albrecht on that top line, which will be so crucial for this team. This team’s greatest strength is arguably its chemistry - most of these players have played together before, and are quite familiar with each other. On the back end, Nela Radova is an excellent puck-mover, while Ella Happel has been considered the top women’s hockey prospect in recent years. In goal, it’s Annika Muller leading this team with her veteran leadership, but don’t be surprised to see Alissa Oberlander make the most of her opportunities.

Hamonii trails in early AORDO exit polls

Tropicorp Headquarters, Tropicoast, Tropicorp :: While Dr. J. Hamonii was busy attempting to gain support for their candidacy for AORDO General from what remained of central Calania, other candidates were gaining support from nations in literally every other corner of the region leading to early exit polls suggesting that Hamonii's spur-of-the-moment candidacy for AORDO general is not likely to result in victory for the Tropicorp leader.

Even if Hamonii is not named the next AORDO General, however, they and all of Tropicorp are still optimistic of the opportunities that Hamonii's candidacy has brought to the region including potential closer ties with nearby nations such as the Euran Oceania Territories, Jabal Akdar and the Commonwealth of Baker Park.

Early polls suggest that Field Marshal Reinhard Drachmann of Siovanija and Teusland is the favored candidate for AORDO's top spot. It is not initially clear whether Drachmann would look towards either of their opponents - Dr. J. Hamonii or the Crystal Empire's Shining Armor as potential candidates for the Lieutenant General position should the early polls be confirmed and Drachmann be sworn in to the position when the polls close.

While Drachmann may seem a virtual shoe-in for AORDO's top spot a number of the other items on the ballot have thus far proven too close to call. In particular there is currently no betting favorite for Command of the AORDO Air Froces as four different candidates have received substantial backing during their campaigns. In the build up to the Nomination process it seemed that Colonel Per Arlberg of Squornshelous and Lietenant General Tang Tor'audhr of Gyatso-kai were the two main players for the position but late additions in the nomination of Equestria's Spitfire and Geisenfriend's 11th hour nomination of David Steube have thrown a new blanket of uncertainty over the identity of AORDO's future Air Forces command leader.

While some are focused on what is happening in AORDO, there are still game to be played in the AOlympics. It was a disappointing day at the Tropicoast Beach Course in Tropicorp as home town drivers Anavella Ariiki and Yraaga Gilli'i were unable to come up with the points necessary to secure Team Tropicorp's advancement to the Atlantian Oceania Motorsports Championship knockout rounds in Eelandii. Team Tropicorp had struggled throughout the AOMC until Gilli'i earned Tropicorp's first medals of the AOlympic games with a Gold Medal Performance in the Saturday Night Feature event at the Lonngeylin Ring. The win had temporarily pulled Tropicorp off the bottom of the standings and into the Top 7 but a strong performance by the Pacitalian team at the Tropicoast Beach Course relegated Team Tropicorp to 8th place in the overall standings missing out on the Top 7 Cutoff Required to advance to the Quarter Finals. Now, Team Tropicorp's final opportunities to add to their medal count at these games will come in the SwimAO competition being held in Mlima Kijani. Although Team Tropicorp were unable to medal on the opening day of SwimAO competition, two more matchdays remain for Tropicorp's swimmers to bring something back to their Tropicoast based Campus once the games complete.

Busogans hope for continued individual sporting success at the AO Swim Championships as nation prays for a team gold in Rugby

BUYOBANZA, MLIMA KIJANI- The Busoga Islands have had a surprisingly great time of it at the AOlympics so far. With all 66 track & field medals awarded, we finished third in that table, with a medal haul of 9- an impressive haul when, at best, we were expected to likely only earn a few medals. 3 golds in Istria made the event a standout one for us, as we showed all of Altantian Oceania that even despite our small size, we can compete with the big boys in these individual events.

Team sports? Well, we didn't enter that many. Honest to goodness- maybe we should've sent a full delegation! As a nation, we decided to put all of our resources in team sports behind our rugby sevens, who are competing tonight for a regional championship against the host nation, the Commonwealth of Baker Park. Our gridiron team surprised a lot of people by doing pretty well, reaching the semifinals before falling to the host nation by a score of 17-3 in that round of the competition, therefore earning ourselves a bronze medal.

But rugby is the sport. Behind soccer- probably the second most popular team sport in this country, outside of cricket. It's the sport we've put all our betting on. The gridiron run was a nice surprise, and a semifinal appearance was appreciated- but that's likely our ceiling. Other regional stalwarts in gridiron, like Delaclava and Ranoria, did not participate in the AO Bowl, making the tournament Banija's to lose, which they did not(despite their best efforts early on!)

The country is united behind the rugby sevens team in Ezra. President Kasekende himself will attend the match. "This has always been a sport we love, and Baker Park is a great place for a final." He told reporters. "They've been excellent hosts, and because of that, they will have a heavily partisan crowd behind them. However, even despite their home field advantage, I believe that we can go in there, drown out the noise, capture the spirit and energy of those at home, and win a regional title." It's really anybody's ballgame, and Baker Park only opens up as the slightest of favorites thanks to their home field advantage.

Despite the match being on the home soil of the other participant, there are expected to be a healthy number of Busogans in the city. "Like our Banijan counterparts, when it comes to international finals, many Busogans will surely show up to the city ticketless to be part of the scenes and festivities." One Busoga Islands Rubgy Board member said. "We've never won a major international title in any team sport before- regional or world, so it's a big deal. You may get as many Busogan fans outside the stadium, at watch parties and what not, as you do inside the stadium."

And then, last but not least, the AO Swim Championships. Hastily put together at the last minute, the Busoga Islands, encouraged by success in track, sent a delegation hoping for some silverware. After one day, we've got some, with Taser Aybar winning a pair of medals himself, with a gold in the men's 100m backstroke and a silver in the men's 200m individual medley. THe 100m backstroke was particularly impressive, as he gave himself just enough of a gap for a clearcut gold medal, finishing about three quarters of a second ahead of the rest of the competition. One one-hundredth of a second seperated the silver medalist from the two bronze medalists(tie for third), which shows how competitive that race was.

And then, the individual medley. As expected, Aybar's strongest stroke was the backstroke, and he took the lead after the second leg. But he did not do so great on the breaststroke in the third leg, getting passed by both the swimmer from Qasden and the swimmer from Sarzonia. He caught up to the Sarzonian swimmer, but the SeaVans swimmer dominated the final leg of the race to win his country's first gold medal of these AOlympic Games. Aybar had to satisfy himself with a silver medal.

Overall, a strong day for the Islanders. We hope for more success in the AO Swim Championships, but above all- the prayers are to a victory in Rugby Sevens tonight in Ezra. Go Busoga Go!

It was a gold medal for Katarina Buchtel in the women’s 400m freestyle competition at the AOlympic games, taking Siovanija & Teusland’s first gold medal of the event.

“It’s an incredible feeling,” said the St. Jakob native on her triumph. Buchtel had a difficult semifinal, with a time of 4:12.61, qualifying for the final as the lowest seed. But in the final itself, she blew everyone away with a near 10 second improvement, finishing with a 4:02.85 to take home the gold medal.

Swimming has not traditionally been a major sport in Siovanija & Teusland, with only one of the country’s Olympic medals in its history in the sport - Nils Englehart in the men’s 200m butterfly at the Istria/Orean games. Buchtel, however, spent much of her childhood in coastal St. Jakob and as a result practically grew up in the water making her a prime candidate for the national team, and the 19 year old will be very proud of her accomplishment.

Back home in St. Jakob, too, family and friends are proud of her achievements. Her swimming coach at the Universitat St. Jakob, Valerie Kostler, told us that “She’s worked so hard for this, and it’s amazing to see her up there on the top step of the podium. I hope it’s not the last time she’ll be up there with a medal.” Her father, Bruno, said that “She has the talent, of course, but the thing I think she has that separates her is the self-determination, she never gives up, even when the road is difficult.”

And for many of Siovanija & Teusland’s summer athletes, the road is certainly difficult at the moment. “It was a difficult decision,” said S&T Olympic Committee President Ivan Radkov at the press conference announcing that Siovanija & Teusland would not participate at the upcoming Summer Olympics in Electrum. “We know it will disappoint many in our country, especially the athletes who have worked so hard. But we believe this is the best possible course of action for our program,” he said.

The official reason given for the lack of participation was multi-faceted: summer sports do not receive the same level of funding or participation that their winter counterparts do. It is well-known that this country is more suited for winter sports, however, the summer program had been quite successful in its history - winning 20 medals across two games, including 3 gold-coloured. The STOC argued, then, that while participating in the Republica Games (13th) was necessary to make the debut on the Olympic stage and the Istria/Orean Games (14th) were a strong choice as they were taking place quite literally in our backyard, it was perhaps best to skip out for the moment and focus on supporting funds for grassroots athletes to improve the competition one day.

This decision was, of course, met with indignation from the country’s summer athletes. Gold-medal winning boxer Klara Hovorkova called it “a total disgrace” on social media. 47 athletes who represented Siovanija & Teusland over the two previous Summer Games signed an open letter demanding the STOC reverse their decision.

Katarina Buchtel had not participated in an Olympic Games before this, and as a result did not sign the letter - but when asked at a press conference before the AOlympics her opinion, she was harshly critical of the STOC: “I think it’s a horrible decision, to be honest. They did not take into account the hundreds of athletes who have the ability to be competitive in their events. It’s disheartening to see the hundreds of millions poured into the infrastructure at Velden-Villach, and we are not even able to participate in our Games.”

Buchtel was referring to the most common critique of the STOC in this situation - that the Winter Olympic program was the favoured child to a ridiculous degree. The STOC has, in recent years, spent millions of dollars with government support on building training venues and event venues in the mountain town of Velden-Villach in the mountains - it was where the Olympic Trials took place in recent years for the Winter Games in Kelssek, and the rumour is it is the first step in a very, very long plan that culminates in eventually bringing a Winter Games to Siovanija & Teusland.

The STOC responded to the criticism of this by stating that they had missed participating in a Winter Olympiad in recent years for similar reasons - building up the program - and that the result was an all-time great performance in Kelssek, with Siovanija & Teusland finishing 6th in the medal table with 14 medals. It also noted that much of the funding for the Wintersportstadt project had come from the federal and Teus governments, as well as the Ski Federation of Siovanija & Teusland.

Still, that response will have done nothing to calm down the anger from the summer sports community in the nation - and Buchtel’s win will raise the tensions further. Swimmer Stella Hahn, who competed in Istria/Orean, commented on social media “Ridiculous that the regional champion won’t be in Electrum next month!”

And so, Katarina Buchtel is an Atlantian Oceania champion in swimming - but she will have to wait longer than necessary for her Olympic turn.

:: AOHC: Ice Hockey

In what was seen by many in Gyatso-kai as a preview of the World Cup of Hockey, the Ice Bison came into the Semifinals against Siovania & Teusland, and despite a great showing by our team, simply fell short; losing 4-3 in regulation and the Goldhorns continuing their international winning streak. It was an impressive game, which saw Song Unataq draw first blood with an impressive breakaway at 11:42 in the second after a scoreless first period: Both Shu Pianhuo of Omashu fame and Stelburg's own Robert Schock kept the scores at nil-all facing nine and eleven shots on net, respectively.

The lead would be short-lived, as Timo Schlager would tie the game at 12:18 on an even-strength pounder which saw the puck in the Avatarian zone for near-thirty seconds of constant offense. Vitomir Glaskov - a winger who is usually seen at center for the Energija Chernovets - managed to bring the Goldhorns the lead to which they would hold for the remainder of the period as the Ice Bisons went to the locker room down a goal at 2-1.

In the third, both sides would score a goal in the opening three minutes; Aleksej Knejz scored the first of the period at 1:02 thanks to a rough pass up ice by Degour Niyan that just did not bounce in his favor, while seeking redemption, Degour would score at 2:40 on the power play after a Delay of Game penalty from Leon Goss's shot on net which went over the net. The Goldhorns would play solid defense, keeping the Ice Bisons from scoring until Knejz scored the fourth and final goal for Siovania & Teusland at 16:30 on the power play; Hed Torvik got a two-minute minor for slashing after chasing down Glaskov on a breakaway and his stick simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time. In an uncharacteristic move, Head Coach Ishii Hakoda would pull Shu from net at the 18-minute mark, giving the Ice Bisons the extra attacker, and thanks to how the lines were experimented with, Barc'ay Gorodow would be on ice; replacing a sick Souma Shichiro who was out with a stomach bug. Desperate to show his worth to the team, strong pressure by the Ice Bisons would see Gorodow gain control of the puck deep in the neutral zone, and a quick spin would have the Itakawai Lightning third-liner break free and fire off a haran of a wrister that sailed right over Schock to get the Ice Bisons within a goal at 18:56.

But Margaret had other plans... and the Ice Bisons would not tie the game before the final buzzer.

Victory sends the Goldhorns onto the Gold Medal Match, to face off against perennial favorite Valanora, while the Ice Bisons get to fight for Bronze against the illustrious Ice Cat Things from Vilita & Turori. With both Quebec and Ko-oren having moved off to the Anaia Region after the Foxchester Declaration, many in Gyatso-kai see the teams of Vilita & Turori - with their trademark teal and gold - as our next closest regional rival... or rather, want to see them as that rival. However, in the past few years, Valanora and Siovania & Teusland - both Top Ten Teams - are also in the runnings for regional partners to always enjoy seeing. For Gyatso-kai, 'rivalry' is less about the outcome of the matches, and more about the thrill of seeing familiar faces on the ice, something most noticeable in any series-ending moments where it is common to see Avatarian players exchanging long pleasantries with players and coaches they have spent many long games battling against.

Sometimes, even gifts will be given; antique bottles of national liquors, 'iron hearts' to commemorate the tournament from mandalorian players, and of course, jersey swaps...

Every one loves a friendly game...

:: AOWL :: Quidditch

Unfortunately for the Flying Bisons, victory did not come in their quaterfinals match against Verceola, with the team falling 370s-210 after Vivianne Cortez beat replacement Seeker Atil Saiyan - who was subbed in after Iviin Ram'ser twisted her wrist on a hard fall early in the match - to catch the Snitch and ending a near-tied game . A hard-fought game for both sides, the members of the Flying Bisons - including the presumably-retiring Sato Sachie - have to return home empty-handed, though for the team's first multi-verse advancement, they should be proud.

Of course, word from the National Sports Council is that there are talks of creating a professional Quidditch league in Gyatso-kai, especially after witnessing so many magicless nations compete in the AOWL tournament this year. One of the largest roadblock to a "Avatarian Quidditch League" is the exclusion of non-magic and non-airbending players from the game, even though there were 'experiments' in ji past that saw non-inclined players on board enchanted feizhou.

Those 'experiments' did not end well...

With the defeat at the hands of Verceola, the Flying Bisons end their third tournament with a team record of 5-0-8 through two World Cups and one AOlympics. With talk of the professional Quidditch league coming to fruition, there is a chance some of the older players on the Flying Bisons - including Sachie, Cheng Roku, Adlartok Aklaq, and Ram'ser - may try and seek fame in the various other nations in our region who currently have professional leagues...

Only time will tell...

The last minute addition of swimming to the AOlympics program was just the thing the Olympic Committee of the Commonwealth (OCC) needed to utilize the athletes in the aquatics program who would be missing out of the XV Summer Olympic Games in Electrum.

The Athletics Committee of the Commonwealth (ACC), governing body of Track & Field in Baker Park, were tasked with the preservation of the record setting times & distances in the AO Track & Field meet in Istria, presented here for free use of the region's sporting communities.

Broad-ish Report ~ Bronze! Oh, and a Gold, too I guess :/

So my good buddy ol pal Tomathan Hammerland peeved one of the higher-ups with his 'tude last time; which is odd, given that snarky, moping pessimism is a requirement to work here. Anyhow, they demoted him to the actual olympics, paired with an all-expenses-paid penal trip to Electrum to cover the football matches there, talk about a career shutdown! They could've honestly given the job to Aireca, given all that's left here is basketball and swimming, or even Commathan, but I guess they wanted a sillier name to close up these smaller jobs, so guess I'll take the extra pay. Wait, are they paying me at all for this? When's the last time I ate? Why am I typing this? I'm still typing this! Even put size edits with it and everything. Oh well, I'll just make sure to delete this part before I upload it.

The AOlympics, a mass congregation of sports from every court and pitch alike, had started like a week or two ago, being held all across whatever's left of Atlantian Oceania Post-Foxchester, which is really just Vilita, the GSW, and like Falcania 'n friends. You get it, enough for tough competitions, but small enough to officially make Qasden one of the oldest actively in the region. Yet even with that notoriety, it doesn't actually come with the athletic benefits bestowed upon other veteran nations, like Turori and Valanora, because apparently, seniorhood doesn't equate to actual skills on the field. Regardless, the nation is still competing in this, and with the big Olympics starting literally anyday now, I gotta cover it to some extent. Let's start with the ones Tom left on.

Optimism (Partially) Denied
If I'm right, when the last report went public, Qasden's largest feat was achieving the semi-finals in the AOLC, yeah? Well, then we've got some ground to cover!

So the AOLC, originally just a small invitational based in Banija, had ballooned in participation this go around, reaching several nations that had never even picked up a, uh, stick before. Qasden has had some history with lacrosse before, having hosted (and later, won) the WLC a couple countless moons ago; but when it came to the AOLC, the Vans just couldn't get out of their toxic relationship with last place. To the surprise of everyone, that ordeal ended with a narrow victory over Baker Park in the quarter-finals, a bit of revenge for earlier defeats against them in football and rugby. The satisfaction was short-lived, however, as in the semis, Qasden had to play the heavy favorites: multiverse #1, defending host, Banija. As you could expect, it didn't go very well for us.

28-3 would be the final score of that game, which really is just overkill at that point, but it made it clear that the nation's first medal in these games wouldn't be guaranteed, that we'd have to shoot for a bronze. To challenge us would be Sarzonia, another familiar face from the early days of the AOLC. The Stars were an obvious favorite to challenge Banija's dominance for the gold, but were stunned by the debuting delegation from Milchama, our neighbor to the east of Southwest Qasden. Given the ass-whooping received by Matthew Turiz's un-aging team, the Vans were more than expected to come up short here. But in a shockingly competitive performance, Qasden had won the bronze match in Dodoma, the first good brown thing the nation had earned since the 19th Handball World Cup. It was a bright spot for the future of Qasden's lacrosse team (as well as Milchama, who would defy all parallel universes to upset Banija in the gold match), but as with such a trophy, it came at a high cost.

So let's go to the B's: baseball and basketball. The former saw very little exposure from within the nation, though when it came to non-WBC/IBS tournaments, we'd somehow get the gold. The latter was one the country has had one of it's longest times being involved with, having hosted 1.5, nay, .5 IBC's in its extended history with the sport. So let's start with the AOBS (baseball, fyi); like I said, baseball was a sport that we just never really got into. Yeah, years ago in Vekaiyu, the Vans would somehow win a demonstration event featuring it, but if you ask anyone in the nation what a Scootalove City or Nova Anglicana was, they'd probably think it was some type of drug or alcoholic drink. The hastily-assembled BaseVans, coached by little league manager, Buddy McClark, would survive the group stages of the tournament, putting them up against Behetij in the quarters. During the game, the two teams had been neck-and-neck right up until the 6th, when the Vans would pull away by 3 runs. The match would soon go into a spare 10th inning, after the 8th, pitched by Chip Caballero, would give Behetij all the runs they'd need to force extra time. Thankfully, with a surprisingly good batting performance in the 10th, paired with exceptional pitching by closer, Jeff Bitches, the Vans would walk away with an 8-6 victory, a welcoming invitation to a soon-to-be doomed campaign. The semi's would see Qasden choke against a well-equipped Banija for the second-straight sport; and in the bronze match, a 4-run 7th inning would put the Sultanate of Oontaz over McClark and the BaseVans, ending a cinderella run for the ages with bare necks.

Don't worry, it could soon be worse! Let's go to basketball. As the opposite of our baseball team, the Vans of Louis Boxton are all well trained and well versed in the sport, with a substantial chunk of them playing in the League of Hoops and Extraordinary Orange Things. Qasden would be set to take on the #9 Equestria in the quarters, a game that ended in a 74-62 upset over the Ponies, pushing us towards a second medal. As most of these tournaments had been playing out, it was well more than expected that we'd play Banija next, the reigning multiversal champion and owners of a 41-game win streak, but in what can be regarded as the greatest shock of the AOlympics, Banija would fall in the quarters. Not to a well established, highly ranked team, either; it would be to Pluvia and the Saxean Isles, an unranked delegation who would see the strongest financial support of all the country's athletic investments in this thing. PSI's semi-final debut was a stunner for all, but what made it even more stunning would be the actual match in Tropicorp. Since the team had not entered the IBC, it was expected of Qasden to put all their eggs in this basket for the chance to play for a gold. However, not even the great Louis Boxton could stop the upset train, as Pluvia commandingly manhandled the Vans to the very end, earning the team's first ever championship spot in basketball, a title they'd compete with the Vanorians for. As for Qasden, well, we're back to bronze for the third straight tournament in the AOlympics, taking on a dominant Delaclav squad who had fallen to the Elves by a single point in overtime. To say it's grim would be a bit of an understatement, but given we've made it this far, why not, right?

Oh, I guess we were in the quidditch thing, too, but all we did there was beat Squornshelous and leave the group stages in last place, so let's go to a wetter area.

There's Swimming Now, Alright
Qasden as a country has had a little bit of history with swimming events, chiefly back in the old days of AeropagXI. It's the genre of events in which the nation would take home there first ever gold, won by a certain Cristina Tides, whose name has since been intertwined with the national program. In a bit of a hasty decision brought about by a discussion amongst Milchamans for some reason, the AOlympics expanded in real time to include swimming events, branding the new contest "SwimAO", because those cowards don't want Tomathan to call it "Atlantian Oceanian Skinny Dipping". But yeah, as the most obviously equipped place to hold it, the events are being held at a pool in Mlima Kijani, a place somehow even less heard of than Behetij. Regardless, Qasden sent some B and C-teamers there in order to make the medal count better than a measly bronze. Thankfully, it would somewhat pay off in Day 1.

The Men's 200m Individual Medley, an event Qasden didn't even enter as part of the Olympic team, would see the country's first gold here, being won by a guy called Meyer Lemon or something. Maybe it was Major? I don't know, but Lemming would take the dub in a stunning performance, finishing over 2 seconds before the silver finishers, good ol' whatshisface from the Busoga Islands. With a third of whatever's going on in Mlima Kijani done, Mighty Lime's gold remains as Qasden's sole success in this expensive endeavor, something that I'm sure will go great with voters. There's still a couple more days of competition, so will the Vans be able to take any more shiny objects home? Tropicoast, Tropicorp

Terho pants, setting his Dart up at the middle of the track to throw the hybrid into the big curve at the end of the paved straight. It's a move he's done already for the better part of 39 laps, though each one tidier than the next as the race drones on. He's a rather lonely third, with the two front runners having pulled clear halfway through the race as they—and he, too—sliced through the field on their way to the top. After qualifying, which had done little to sweeten the pain of a reverse-grid start, he'd hoped to go at least one better than his third place, but it seemed that perhaps that the last podium spot was about to become his limit on a speedway.

As he throws the car into the corner, the rear loses traction, and the Tropicorp machine enters the cambered left-hander with a slight left yaw. His entry speed, unlike in the last few laps, is perfect; the car understeers for a split second as the front wheels enter the sand, then succumbs to his violent inputs as he sends it for a slide across the turn. He giggles in-amongst his heavy gasps for air as the car goes exactly where he wants it.

He measures his lead foot out of the turn, focusing on keeping his line as straight as possible to barrel down the sandy stretch one last time. The cars ahead kick up some sand, so he tucks away from the rooster tail nearer to the waterline. With some ways' left to go until the final corner, and the driver behind well out of reach, he treats himself to a peek out of the side window. The waves lap peacefully onto the pale white sand—their sound drowned out by the digging of the rubber into the sand, the spaceship-like transmission whine of the Dart, and the cacophonous pairing of the ICE and the hybrid motors whirring over the uneven terrain.

As the final corner comes into view, and the rooster tails ahead dissipate and become curved, he gets the memo it's time for the final corner. With little to lose—his spot in the AOMC finals secured for a few rounds now—he decides to have a bit of a chuckle.

The Dart is an agile, yet demanding, little machine. He takes a deep breath before attempting his maneuver, and holds in half of it as he exhales in small reverse-sips to release his nervous pressure. Approaching at ungodly speed—rich from a WGPC champion, but still far and away the fastest he's ever dared to trek upon a loose surface—he slams the brakes as he saws the wheel to the right and away from the apex.

His tyres had seemed fine until then, so with little remorse, he keeps the wheels locked as the Dart, under braking, begins pulling and yawing to the right. Releasing the brake pedal for just an instant, he rolls the wheel the opposite way to the left as the apex becomes far more visible now, and presses the pedal again. The speedometer reads zero, and the car is now braking in a straight line, but still pointing away from the apex and towards the ocean.

As he crosses the turn in point, he hammers the throttle. The Dart twirls on a dime, and rotates left almost violently into the corner. Terho had certainly not expected that much traction—surely, he'd been aided by the ruts in the sand.

With just a few meters to go, he commits to the powerslide. Full lock to the right again now and some throttle modulation, as he expertly nurses the slide through the hairpin. The sand, caught in the spokes of his wheels and beautifully occluding the rear of the car, frames his spectacular final move, and as the car starts to straighten up the right-side wheels graze the dirty tarmac. The slide carries on for just a couple more meters on the sticky tar, and he crosses the line in a gorgeous plume of sand and tyre smoke.

Third-best, yet again, but still a result worthy of a grin.

Talvela and Toralmintii to Reunite as Rivals in Hotly-Anticipated AOMC Quarterfinal

Just one of the iconic teammate pairing will end up with a chance to claim the AOMC title for their home nation

EELANDII - After nine extremely competitive rounds, the Atlantian Oceania Motorsport Championship finally comes to a close in a spectacular Turorian finale, where drivers numbers one and two of each of the seven qualifying nations—sans comfortable table leaders Vilita, through straight to the semis—will battle head-to-head on the Eelandi Stadium Course crossover track. As the last quarterfinal matchup, Team Aboveland will square off against Turori with one of the most awaited battles of the AOMC event: the ultimate race between iBen Toralmintii and Terho Talvela.

Despite finishing well out of reach of each other throughout most of the AOMC, the Abovian has been the one to lead Toralmintii on most of the few occasions, in qualifying and in races, that the pair have finished adjacent; this, in contrast to their traditional 1-2 finishing order in the WGPC wherein the Turorian claimed victory over the Abovian in each of the five races the pair locked out the top two podium positions.

After a strong result in Tropicorp, and a promising, yet heartbreaking, run in Pactalia, Talvela is on the up going into the AOMC finale; the Turorian, despite also having a DNF and a podium in the last two rounds, is going into his home round piggybacking off a win (after beating the competition in the consolation race, having scored less points for his team than his avian teammate, Cocoabo #23).

Talvela however, as he said to Ælunder Nyttispalvelu, is unfazed.

“I’ve no wins in this series yet but I reckon I’ve been doing pretty well for a circuit boy,” the Tyttebærsby native said through a grin. “I think I’d rather have that third place in Tropicorp to my name than a win in the consolation race.”

It's time for the AOWL final! Everyone is looking forward to see the two top teams in the AOlympics' quidditch competition battle each other in the air, on their flying broom- WHAT? THE TITLE MATCH WILL NOT AT ALL FEATURE ANY FLYING BROOMSTICKS, A TRADITIONAL PIECE OF QUIDDITCH EQUIPMENT? Well, to hell with tradition, because no matter what happens, a muggle team will be crowned Atlantian Oceania's best in a wizard sport.

On one side, we have the team from St. Kanye, taking to the skies with those contraptions on their legs called striker units. On the other, the Independent Athletes of Squornshelous, riding flying motorcycles. Quidditch purists and elitist wizards, look away.

After winning two of three games in the group stages and taking care of Milchama 260-220 in the quarterfinals, the Kanyeans faced the "Seven Flying Witches" from the country of Verceola in the semifinals. Verceola took a 20-nil lead after 34 minutes, with chaser Brian Sayre getting past keeper Toby Tanaka twice to put the quaffle in the hoop, but the Yeezies would draw level at the hour mark with Raphael Tremblay and Heather Houser both scoring. The two teams then traded scores and the lead for the next couple of hours. At the 3:16 mark, Mike Goldstein (subbing in for Juliana Medina) broke a 60-all deadlock, diving to avoid both bludgers on the way to the hoop, and just ten minutes later, Tremblay put St. Kanye ahead by twenty as he tricked keeper Soufiane Baala into flying left, only to fly right and toward the hoop himself.

At the 3:56 mark, Verceolan seeker Vivianne Cortez seemed to have spotted the snitch and started going after it. However, the Kanyeans once again used the loud whirring of their striker units as a means of distraction, flying in formation ahead of Cortez in order to buy their own seeker Jen Holland some time to get to the snitch herself (she was further away from the little winged ball). Holland made a dive for it, just as Cortez was able to steer herself free of the swarm of lime shirts, but the former had the speed and reflexes to beat the latter to the punch. The game thus ended 230-60 in St. Kanye's favor, seventeen seconds short of the four-hour mark.

Holland was all smiles after once again being her team's heroine. "Yet another great win," she said. "Not just for the team or the whole of St. Kanye, but for all muggles in Atlantian Oceania and beyond. We didn't treat the lack of magic as a disadvantage. Instead, we adapted, and beat the magic users at their own game. But nothing against them. I hope our performance would lead them to be more accepting of us, given we can do what they can do."

Like the Kanyeans, the Squornshelans also finished the group stages 2-1. They beat Valanora 180-30 in the quarters, then took down defending Quidditch World Cup champs Sarzonia 380-230 in the semis. "Man, I'm hyped for this," said chaser Medina. "Ever since we found out at the start of the tournament that the Squornshelans brought bikes, I thought, that would be interesting if we played them. And now we will, and in the finals at that. It will be such a spectacle, for the muggle viewers and the more accepting wizards at least."

The fact that such a high-profile sporting event will showcase research and advancement instead of a dangerous profanity is a victory for our society as a whole.

On a note of self-interest, we are also exceptionally gratified by your respective defeats of the teams representing (or claiming to represent) Verceola, a group whom we have repeatedly and vigorously disavowed, and Sarzonia. The triumph of scientific advancement is its own report, but the crucial defeats of a group of traitors and a team whose government allies with our mainland oppressors - needless to say, we are profusely thankful for this result.

Sometimes, adversity can be a good thing.

That's how Sarzonian national Quidditch team manager Chris Entwistle chose to frame his team's 380-230 loss to Independent Athletes from Squornshelous after the Squornshelan seeker captured the snitch to bring a close to a marathon nine-hour contest that had been level at the time.

"We learned a lot about ourselves in this tournament," he said. "We learned that we can't simply show up and expect to win."

The Stars, who won two of the last three World Cups in Quidditch still dismiss their 0-3 group stage in the now defunct nation of Taeshan due to "irregularities" by the host nation and the referees chosen to officiate Sarzonia matches. However, there was no such talk this time around. The Stars (3-2) lost to Pacitalia in their opening match but then rallied for three straight victories before their defeat to the team representing the former Imperium.

Now the Stars will have to play for a bronze medal, hoping to avoid failing to ascend to the medals platform for just the second time in six appearances in a World Cup or a regional championship. They would join the lacrosse team as disappointments if they lost their match to Verceola, as Jordan Helms's side also fell short in the semifinals and the bronze medal match. For Entwistle, the Stars will be expected to do everything in their power to earn the bronze, but they will do so by playing their depth players.

"We want to see what our substitutes can do as starters," he said. "We're not tanking by any stretch, but we want to make sure we develop our depth players."

The AOWL 'Is a sham and a danger to AO's wizarding community'; Mukegara Chief declares Boycott of the AOWL Final

EELANDII, TURORI- While Banijan muggles compete for trophies in events that absolutely nobody in Mukegara cares about, like football(there are two footballs? Is the AO Bowl or the AOCAF the real football?), baseball, and basketball, the Mukegara Tribe has gotten behind the one sport that actually matters, which is Quidditch.

For the uninitiated- The Mukegara are a distinct tribe within Banija. It marks us as seperate from foreign wizarding communities, that are mostly variously intermingled among the general population. The Mukegara are a distinct tribe, that has practiced magic for nearly 900 years. Our population is around 50,000 strong, according to the Banijan census, and we are located in Northeastern Hangaza, mostly in and around the Kuanen mountains, just north of the source of the Kuanen River that divides the Geis/Banijan border.

During Banija's unification wars, we successfully fought off Banijan invaders multiple times, until the rest of modern-day Banija was conquered. During those wars, while fighting off the Banijans, we sent emissaries abroad, to fly off in search of other wizarding communities, and was able to find Starblaydia's almost by accident. Our links were established with the then AO wizarding community(now Anaia), and we kept those links strong to educate our wizards. We send 70 of our children to Percyvale Academy in Starblaydia every single year. Meanwhile, at home, a deal was reached- loyalty and taxes to the crown, foreign policy to the crown, while autonomy was guaranteed. Banija remained ignorant of our wizarding, as our magical abilities would almost certainly cause them to crush our magic and our culture, and likely lead to widespread violence against us.

Meanwhile, complete autonomy was maintained politically- the Banijan government does not involve itself in our laws, our schools, our customs. And at the same time, we reached deals on a number of things. We don't allow foreign muggles to visit- it is illegal for tourists to come into the country. And even for Banijan muggles. We patrol our own border. It's the "right to remain uncontacted" according to the Banijan Constitution. We have a regional league soccer team at the edge of our territory, the Mukegara Warriors, but that's just for the appearance of normalcy. They're terrible, and that's fine. People won't think we're weird if we play the country's most popular sport.

So the Anaia split didn't really effect us- we don't really follow nor care about the international political issues of the day. We have a guaranteed legislator, but that's it. Why would our alliance with Starblaydia's wizarding community end because of a decision of their muggle government? What muggles do does not concern us.

Until, of course, it does. AO's wizards strived to create the AOWL, to have a regional wizarding sport championships parallel to the AOlympics. Which makes sense- why watch lame shitty sports that occur on the ground, when you could have fun ones that occur in the air? But then, we opened the AOWL to Muggles.

What kind of decision making was this? Unfortunately, we also had to compete under the Banijan name and colors, rather than those of the Mukegara, but whatever. We bombed out fairly quickly, which fair.

But we expect to see AO's most talented and athletic wizards. Instead, we've got muggles on motorcycles. This is a huge problem for a number of reasons. Number one- where's the concern shown to the wizarding communities who have to remain secret? All of a sudden, we're exposed. Fortunately, we temporarily put Banijan broadcasters under the Imperius curse to convince them to not air AOWL events in country, and convince Banija's media not to report on the event. Is there any respect shown to us at all?

Secondly- what the hell is going on? The greatest sport in the world is for wizards, by wizards. Why are we letting muggles participate in motorcycles? And what's worse- why are AO's wizards embracing this? Have some pride in who you are, damnit. Letting muggles on motorcycles take over our sport? Everytime I watch St. Kanye or Squornshelous compete, I think to myself how I'd rather go to a Church. And considering the Mormon population among our tribe(0), you can understand how much I'd want to go there.

It's a sham. A travesty. And I will not be a party to it. Any nation that does not have wizards or witches should not be allowed to compete in a Quidditch tournament. How hard is that? And therefore, in Mukegara(where the Chief rules absolutely), the Muggle Final will not be shown.

The real final will be shown on wizarding TV here. Sarzonia v. Verceola. And Verceola's wizarding community, if they are not allowed back in Verceola, will be offered asylum to come live in Mukegara for the rest of their lives- although they can only travel here by magical means. As for St. Kanye and Squorn, we hope that their motorcycles explode in mid-air, and that actual wizards in their countries somehow replace their teams to play in the final instead.

Milchama Advances to Curling Final

Milchama advanced to the AOlympics curling final with a comprehensive 11-5 victory over Valanora in only 8 ends. The Valanoran skip Dennis Köhler shaking after missing an easy draw for two. This was the first shake of the Milchamian Olympics so far and sets up Millardson and co for a real shot at the gold medal against Baker Park who beat Squornshelous 5-4 in a nail biter in the other semifinal. The big story today was the ice conditions. The ice speed improved significantly to a reasonable 13 seconds. That combined with the reasonable amount of curl that has happened throughout the tournament made the ice a lot easier to play on. However, there were still complaints of rough patches. Hirsch is particular almost fell twice and seemed out of it.

More Swimming Medals, AOHC Final in Stelburg

It was a big day for Siovanija & Teusland at the AOlympics yesterday, adding more medals to the nation’s tally in the swimming competition.

The first week of the AOlympics had not been particularly fruitful for Siovanija & Teusland - nothing in track and field, and only a bronze medal in the AOBowl to show for their participation. Of course, the nation is guaranteed at least one more medal in tonight’s AOHC gold medal game, but our nation’s swimmers are excelling in a field that is not typically a strength in our country.

Amelie Frucht kicked off the day strong in women’s 100m breaststroke, qualifying for the final with the 7th fastest time overall in the semifinals - however, she would shave 8 tenths off her time in the final as she finished with a 1:07.19, beating the swimmer from Hapilopper to silver by .01 of a second to earn herself an AOlympic silver medal. Frucht, who competed at the Istria/Orean Olympic Games, was in tears on the podium afterward as the 32 year old expects this to be her last competitive event.

It was the long distance events, however, where Siovanija & Teusland would find the most success of the swimming competition on day 2. Luka Kuttner was making his international debut at the event, the young swimmer from Felsenkirchen being part of a new generation of young swimmers who are really making a mark here at the AOlympics. In the semifinal, he put up the second best time in the heats to advance to the final, where he took over a second and a half off his previous time in order to beat the swimmer from Misrantis to the medal by .06 of a second.

Katarina Buchtel also picked up her second medal of the AOlympics in the women’s 800m freestyle competition. The distance swimmer already earned a medal in the 400m, and this time, she picked up a silver to add to her collection. She was the top seed going into the final after a great time in the semi, but an incredible swim by the swimmer from Baker Park saw Buchtel slip to second - earning her second medal of the games, and Siovanija & Teusland’s 5th of the swimming competition so far.

The reaction back home has been exceptionally positive for the swimming team, with these medals coming in an area Siovanija & Teusland traditionally has not had much success in. Only one medal in the Olympic Games in swimming as a whole, and 5 in the first two days here at SwimAO - it’s an excellent haul so far, and with medalists like Buchtel and Kuttner both under the age of 22, it signals perhaps a bright future for S&T swimming.

The debate over the Summer Olympic participation has, of course, ramped up. Tobias Laube, a Member of the Chancellery for the Stelburg region, spoke in the Chancellery today, and gave the following statement: “I’d like to congratulate Siovanija & Teusland’s successful swimming team, particularly Stelburg native Katarina Buchtel, on their incredible performance at the Atlantian Oceania competition this week. It is a great disappointment that these athletes will not be able to compete at the Olympic Games coming up in Electrum. I have proposed a bill that will ensure that the STOC attends each and every Olympic Games available to it. Such a decision lets our athletes who have put in such time training and also money down. As part of my bill, federal funding for the STOC’s other projects will be withheld if they do not participate in future Olympic Games.”

Laube’s legislation will certainly cause debates within the National Chancellery, as well as the sporting circle as a whole - it is expected to pass with a wide margin, as Laube is a member of the governing National Democratic Union and the bill has been vocally backed by Chancellor Dominik Meier.

In other AOlympic news, Siovanija & Teusland’s women’s national hockey team will play for the AOHC gold medal against the Calcuttas of Valanora at the Stelburg Eispalast tonight. “We’re all excited, we really see this as our moment and we plan on making the fans proud tonight,” said team captain Jessi Baten.

The men’s national team are currently competing in the World Cup of Hockey, having defeated Sannyamathland 7-0 last night, but the team took the time to send their well-wishes towards their female counterparts: men’s captain Timo Schlager in his post-match interview took the time to wish the team well and said he wished he could be in the Eispalast to cheer them on.

The Lady Goldhorns were undefeated in group stage play, before defeating the teams from the Euran Oceania Territories and Gyatso-kai to reach the final - Valanora, on the other hand, defeated Banija and Vilita & Turori to reach the final stage. On home ice, the nation will be behind Siovanija & Teusland’s talented hockey stars as they go for a gold medal at the AOlympics.

Talvela and Kristiansen Through to Semifinals After Thrilling Duel

Team Aboveland beat Team Turori by merely 0.14 of a second in the last of the quarterfinal races on the Eelandi Stadium Course. Talvela, once more, played second fiddle to Toralmintii as the first of the two drivers out on the track.

EELANDII - In one of the most heart-stopping moments of the AOMC yet, WGPC superstar Terho Talvela and unknown folkracer Per-Gunnar Kristiansen just about managed to pip iBen Toralmintii and Cocoabo #23 to advance to the semifinals of the Atlantian Oceania Motorsport Championship, winning their duel by the duration of the blink of an eye.

Under the bright floodlights inundating the unique crossover stadium course, the most anticipated of the three showdowns got underway straight to the chase, with a motivated Terho Talvela squaring up directly against iBen Toralmintii in the first lap through the track; as the rules stipulated, both competing nations' first drivers started the race, and relegated driving duties to their ready-to-go teammates at the end of their first, and only, lap of the full course.

As the run of the initial Moebius track got underway, it seemed as if Talvela had gotten the superior start. Any supposed advantage, however, was quickly wiped away by the first sharp corner, the Abovian locking up as he approached the sharp turn after the first swooping left and taking a compromised line through and out of the corner. After the first crossover, and the first time both drivers crossed the start/finish line together, it seemed that Toralmintii had cultivated something of a gap behind, leading the Abovian by three tenths according to the timing boards, but Talvela was not about to give up. Despite being poised to tackle the inside, more technical branch of the track, the Abovian was clinically precise with every apex and braking point, and quickly wiped away Toralmintii's advantage by the time the two had arrived at the start/finish line again.

Barrelling straight away into the extended section of the track outside of the arena, the former teammates found themselves side by side, with Talvela eking out an advantage across the end of the Moebius circuit which he was promptly forced to forfeit into the drawn out left-right chicane to enter the long track. Initially trailing the Turorian, the Abovian kept his nerves in check for long enough to make a move at the midway point of the track, where he outbraked Toralmintii into the technical middle sector and kept him restrained heading off to the final, rectangular-shaped east end of the circuit. While blocking Toralmintii effectively, as the circuit re-entered the arena, the Abovian was too conservative into the initial right turn, and left the Turorian a golden opportunity too great to pass up. Lunging down the inside, Toralmintii made himself a spot to zoom past Talvela, but it was a move that, had the track been just a few feet longer, would have proved fruitless. Talvela, ducking into the Turorian's slipstream at the end of the lap, capitalized on a less-than-ideal line on the final corner and clawed back time right before the finish line. With his Dart's nose a finger's length behind, the photo finish between the champion and his wingman ended up advantage Toralmintii, by just two-hundredths of a second.

As Talvela and Toralmintii exited their cars and gave each other a warm, sincere embrace before turning to wave emphatically—the Abovian more histrionic than the Turorian—, the far less friendly—or acquainted—duo of Kristiansen and the Cocoabo launched off the start line. Unlike Talvela, Kristiansen was flawless from the start, careful not to lose time where his teammate had at the very beginning, and by the end of the Moebius circuit had pulled ahead of his avian rival by over five-tenths of a second. Yet, as the track opened up and became more technical, the WGPC-aligned bird began a steady charge. The pressure from the Cocoabo prompted Kristiansen to brake too late and fishtail his way into the technical midpoint section, but his damage limitation was excellent, and he proved not to let the Cocoabo gain too much of a talonhold. By the time the two had entered the stadium section, the Abovian was safely ahead by three tenths, and carried home the win for Team Aboveland to advance to the semifinals.

In what will perhaps be Team Aboveland's toughest challenge yet, Talvela and Kristiansen will square off against AOMC race winners RL Cruisin and River "Shark" Suzgar for a chance at making it to the final and securing, at last, a medal for Aboveland in an otherwise forgettable AOlympics for the debutant national team. Despite at least one of the Abovians having proved their worth against one of the VIlitans, their opponents' record thus far in what has been the latest season of the AOMC will certainly be something the duo will have to be mindful of.

Turori Out as Wizards Revolt in Eelandii

Eelandii Sportropolis, Eelandii, Turori:: With the AOlympic Games entering their final days of competition, the stakes were getting higher and there was increasingly less action including athletes from Vilita and Turori. With Eight Competitions still running, Vilita and Turori were still represented in just three: The Atlantian Oceania Motorsports Championships, the AOHC for Ice Hockey and SwimAO. Of course, Vilita and Turori had already been defeated in the Semi-Final of the AOHC, ending their string of three consecutive AOHC Championships. It would also represent the very first time in the history of the AOHC that Vilita would not be represented in the championship game. While the AOHC has been held seven times previously, only six of those editions had a championship game. Of those six editions, Vilita won once (AOHC 1) with three victories for Vilita and Turori (AOHC 5-7). The other two championship games previously contested in the AOHC saw Vilita as runner up in AOHC II and Vilita and Turori runner up in AOHC IV.

Now, with Valanora and hosts Siovanija and Teusland set to contest the Gold Medal Game of AOHC VIII. There was, however, still something for Vilita and Turori to play for. A spot on the Podium and a Bronze Medal were on the line at the Olimpski-Ledarena in Borograd, Siovanija. The Ice Cat Things opponent for the game would be Gyatso-Kai who were narrowly defeated in a close semi-final matchup by the Goldhorns 4-3. While Vilita and Turori were looking to extend their all-time podium streak in the AOHC, Gyatso-kai were just looking for a medal. The Ice Bisons were a last medal hope for the nation that had also been defeated in the Quarter Finals of the AO Wizarding League and were not competing in any events at the SwimAO Championships. As such it was hardly a consolation match with both teams having plenty to play for. Ultimately, Vilita and Turori would prevail in overtime with Jualiar Fichaud netting the winner for the Ice Cats to earn the Bronze Medal. It would also give the Bisons of Gyatso-kai the honor of being the biggest name among nations who competed at the AOlympic Games without recording a single medal either at the Team Challenge or Minor Medal level.

AOWL :: While mentioning the AO Wizarding League there has been some recent consternation among its members regarding the results of the recent AOWL Semi-Finals. As the draw worked out, each Semi-Final match consisted of one magical team against one non-magical team and in both games the non-magical team prevailed by catching the Snitch. While some were more gracious in defeat than others, some were downright outraged with the Chief of the Mukegara calling the competition a Sham and a "Danger to AO's Wizarding Community".

The concerns of the Mukegara seemed largely directed at the fact that teams using Magic were intermixed with non-magical teams through the duration of the competition which left some who would have preferred not to have their magical abilities disclosed forced into that position against non-magical opponents. While all contests were held in the exclusivity of the Eagle's Club and all competitors forced to sign a non-disclosure agreement before competing inside the Club, the Mukegara refused to recognize Squornshelous v. St. Kanye as the Championship Game of the AOWL and instead have opted to recognize Sarzonia v. Verceola as the true championship game.

While no official statement from the AO Wizarding League has yet been made, AOlympics Organizers have re-affirmed that for the purposes of the AOlympics team challenge that it considered the Squornshelous v. St. Kanye matchup a gold medal game and will award an AOlympic Gold and Silver medal based on the outcome, regardless of whether the AO Wizarding League recognizes the winner as its champion.

AOMC :: A thrilling night of action in Eelandii continued on with the knockout rounds of the Atlantian Oceania Motorsports Championships with three Quarter Final matchups that got better as the night went on. The first battle on the cards would see NSSCRA Veterans Jeremiah Brooke and Thea Alvarez of Saint Kanye taking on the team from Pacitalia who snuck into the knockout round by outscoring Team Tropicorp on their home turf in the final event of the Qualifications. Team Saint Kanye handily earned victory to move on to the Semi-Finals. The next matchup would see the Commonwealth of Baker Park up against Aji No Moto. Baker Park proved to be a rising star on the Atlantian Oceania Motorsports scene holding their position in the Top 7 for the duration of the AOMC. It was not enough to get past Aji No Moto however with one of the stars of the AOMC, Kyoko Fujisaki, being the difference besting Jordan Crowe of baker park by three tenths of a second on the opening run.

Finally, it was the matchup that the arena had came to see. Aboveland v. Turori. Terho v. iBen. The winningest drivers in the history of the World Grand Prix Championships head to head competing for different teams against each other. As the green light came on the long time World Grand Prix teammates, friends and competitors took their chance to build up an advantage on the independent mobius course with Toralmintii grabbing an early advantage. By the time they got back around a second time and exited the stadium they were still side by side and nose to tail swapping some paint and having fun. Back into the stadium and around the final bend Talvela could not hold on as Toralmintii narrowly edged out the Abovian to give Team Turori an imperceptable two-hundredths advantage that had been erased by the time Cocoabo #23 and Per-Gunnar Kristiansen even knew who had won the first leg. The relatively unknown Kristiansen would overshadow the storyline of the day by besting the Cocoabo around the Eelandii Stadium Course, more than overcoming the slight advantage Toralmintii had built up on the first leg and sending Aboveland through to the Semi-Finals with Turori shockingly crashing out at the first hurdle on home turf.

VOIA Internal Report :: With representatives from the nations of Atlantian Oceania having cast their ballots for the Command Positions of the AORDO Forces, we can assess with high certainty that the soon-to-be announced AORDO Selections will be as follows:

AORDO General

VOIA Assess that Field Marshal Reinhard Drachmann of Siovanija and Teusland has earned an overwhelming majority of the vote and will soon be confirmed as the next AORDO General. Support for Field Marshal Drachman was wide-reaching from all corners of Atlantian Oceania. Their closest challenger, Dr. J. Hamonii of Tropicorp gained traction in small pockets particularly from peaceful nations looking to leverage their non-military past to re-shape the role of AORDO but not enough to make this a close contest. After confirmation, Field Marshal Drachmann is likely to convene an AORDO Council either in Stelberg or at the AORDO Headquarters in order to affirm any Lieutenant General's and to outline the strategy under their new Command.

AORDO Air Forces Command

VOIA Assess that this contest is too close to call and may need to be decided in a run-off vote or under decree from the soon-to-be installed AORDO General. VOIA Assess that Colonel Per Arlberg of Squornshelous and Lieutenant General Tang Tor'audhr of Gyatso-Kai have received roughly equal support within the region.

AORDO Naval Forces Command

While this was also a close contest, VOIA can Assess that Rudolf Albein of Geisenfried is likely to emerge as narrow victor over Grand Admiral Alfred Reinmann of Siovanija and Tesuland. Early favorite for the position Admiral William D. Sanderson of Baker Park seemed to lose favor among some regional leaders after a viral image shared in twii.tur depicted the Admiral as "Sandy Bottom" - an moniker that some regional leaders did not feel would be a great association for the Naval Forces in the new AORDO.

AORDO Space Forces Command

VOIA Assess that the experienced Dr. Orca Krenii'i of Vilita has received near unanimous support for Command of the AORDO Space Forces. The only challenger for the role, Albrecht Fischer, was unable to campaign outside of Geisenfried and had their own campaign overshadowed by the more competently portrayed candidacies of their country mates.

AORDO Special Forces Command

The role of command for the AORDO Special Forces was one of the most hotly contested with four different candidates each receiving support for the position. Ultimately the campaigns from Nigel the Esteemed Electric Limefish and the Equestrian Moonless Night may have drawn votes away from each other leaving Major General David G McKinney of the Commonwealth of Baker Park the emergent winner.

AORDO Mage Forces

VOIA Assess that the region was roughly split as to whether or not the Mage Forces should be an official Command position within AORDO. Those that did support the addition of Mage Forces to the AORDO Command were in favor of the leadership proposed by Arcane Dawn of the Equestrian States, receiving over 80% support from those who did not vote against the inclusion of Mage Forces Command. VOIA further Assess that the new AORDO regime may offer Arcane Dawn a Lieutenant Command position without formally recognizing Mage Forces as a top-level AORDO Command.

AORDO Headquarters

VOIA Assess that the region has decided that AOIsland on AO Isle should be the centralized location of the AORDO Headquarters. However, VOIA further assess that there was sufficient support for the Busukuma proposal, particularly among nations in the Southwest, that remote garrisons or emergency use alternate headquarters could be constructed in Banija under the leadership of the new AORDO General.
