I'd be surprised if there still was a Pope.
Atleast one that isn't another top down appointed/bottom up couped metahuman.

There is, the Catholic hierarchy exists still. Vatican II also never happened.
I only bring this up because my character is Catholic, and rules over a majority Catholic region.

Political philosophy:
A totalitarian, feudalistic, neo-Tengriist/Buddhist autocracy that places the reverence of and obedience to the Emperor (and by extension the regime as a whole) above all else. The monarch rules with absolute power and authority, and is practically worshiped by the wider populace as a living God.
Brief history:
The story of the New Yuan Dynasty is one of a peculiar rise from obscurity to absolute power.
During and after the Second World War, Khereid Dorji was a nobody. Or, well, a nobody in terms of international recognition, that is. As the hereditary leader of a local clan of rural Mongolian peasants on the Eurasian Steppe, Dorji spent the majority of his early life as just that: a rural peasant. Overcome by his own greater ambitions and a deep-seated wanderlust, he eventually enlisted in the Mongolian Peoples' Army in the early 50s, quickly proving himself as a dutiful soldier and rising through the ranks as he served beneath Soviet officers to protect Communist establishments in the region. But over the next few years, as the Cold War never escalated to armed conflict, he soon found himself with a lack of purpose yet again. He personally cared little for the ideals of Communism itself, feeling more in touch with the traditions of old that he knew so well from his childhood. For a time he considered deserting, abandoning the life he had built and fleeing back into obscurity, and would have done so had a golden opportunity not presented itself...
Dorji's place in the sun finally came after volunteering to become one of the few first generation Metahumans to be created after Columbia and Hammer, serving the USSR in their ideological conflict against NATO. In fact, not only was he the first Mongolian to achieve this superhuman status, his powers of flight, teleportation, and control over the weather easily made him one of the most powerful Metahumans in the Warsaw Pact. And after using his meteorological abilities to avert natural disasters and relieve nations of terrible droughts by providing the rains they so desperately needed, it seemed Dorji was also on the way to becoming one of the most influential. But once again, as the decades dragged on, this sense of purpose just wouldn't seem to last. Even their newfound popularity was beginning to fade away as the Metahumans' role as mere government pawns became ever more apparent.
This was a sentiment shared not only by his superior, Hammer, but Columbia and Metahumans on both sides of the conflict, all that had worked so tirelessly to protect the world from falling into nuclear war. And it was for these reasons that Dorji joined Columbia and Hammer in their conspiracy - their plan to end this pointless conflict once and for all. Dorji was tasked with toppling the government of the recently established democratic State of Mongolia. And like the other nations of the world, it was accomplished effortlessly. When the dust finally settled on New Years Day, it was done. And seeing it fitting as the country's most powerful Metahuman, the new Mongol region was placed directly under Dorji's absolute control.
By this point, Dorji was already well-established enough to settle down. Now in his sixties, he had achieved mastery over his powers, and ruled unopposed over his ancestral homeland and a people that revered him. He had even sired a child in 1996; a son named Tolui. Now four years of age, the young boy was not only bright-minded, but also bore with him an inkling of his own supernatural abilities - a fine successor for the inevitable day that he passed on. Now, with the rest of his life ahead of him, Dorji set about consolidating his control over not just Mongolia, but the East Asian region as a whole.
And it was around this time that the new "Khan" began to go, for a lack of a better term, a bit mental.
It is unknown whether it is due to the influence of some of his more zealous followers, or the steady deterioration of his mental faculties in his advanced age, but as Dorji solidified his position as the all-powerful, storm-wielding warlord of Mongolia, he began to go on a ruthless streak of expansionism. Capitalizing on the chaos in Asia at the time, Dorji easily crushed the neighboring Metahuman warlords in mainland China, carving out a sizable state in the north and delegating his captured territories to loyal vassals of his own. Prioritizing the minority ethnic groups that were once part of a united Republic of China, he captured the provinces of Xinjiang, Qinghai and Gansu, assimilating the Uyghur and Hui peoples into his united Mongol "Khanate." Much of these regions' Buddhist and neo-Tengriist population were astounded by the Khan's power to bend nature itself to his whims, cleansing droughts with rain and annihilating entire armies with devastating tornadoes. They began to revere this aging Khan - so much so that some of these "New Tengriists," a recently-formed sect stemming from both Tengriism and Buddhism, began to dub their omnipotent ruler as the reincarnation of Tengri himself, with the power of the great blue sky at his own fingertips. In time, the Khan would go full megalomaniac, declaring himself in 2005 as not only the physical incarnation of Tengri and successor to Genghis Khan, but even going so far as the declare the rise of a new Imperial Chinese dynasty in the north: The Great Yuan, hearkening back to the days of the great Mongol Empire - an empire that once conquered a world.
It was here that, at the height of his power, the great Mèngyàn Emperor's rule began. The Emperor ruled with an iron fist, tightening his grip over all of his subjects, Mongol, Han, Hui, and Uyghur alike. His ambition seemed to know no bounds, as the following years saw him lay claim to even more Chinese provinces in Manchuria, Tibet, and those of the Central Plain. Even as his conquests earned him the title of Great Lord of East Asia, the Emperor's aggressive policies led him to to look outward beyond his own sector. In late 2014 he would claim land in Russia - deeming the yet unclaimed regions of Tuva, Buryatia and Altai as rightful Yuan territory; A prospect that the other dynasties of Europe and Asia saw as complete and utter madness. Many metahuman dynasties in Eurasia were terrified of the Emperor's might as, unlike many of them at the time, the Mèngyàn Emperor held not only absolute power but the popular reverence of the many subjects beneath him. Fearing the tremendous loss of life that would follow, the Congress attempted diplomatic solutions to prevent an all-out war between this burgeoning East Asian empire and the successor states of the mighty Soviet Union. But even these fell through, and left many fearing the worst for Asia.
Until in 2015, as he prepared his long-awaited conquest of his rightful territory in Russia, the Emperor met his untimely demise at the hands of an unknown assassin.
While many lords and laymen both domestic and foreign rejoiced in the tyrant's death, the Emperor's loss left just as much uncertainty in the fate of East Asia. In fact, the power gap that followed almost resulted in the complete disintegration of the Empire as a whole. But thankfully, the timely intervention of his now 19 year old son and the newly-established Regency Council prevented the complete and utter collapse of society in the region. Doubly so, the late Emperor had also luckily set the rules of succession in stone some years prior. In the coming days, a "Kurultai" was held in the temporary capital of Urga (formerly Ulaanbaatar), tasked with electing each new Khagan from the late Emperor's surviving children: In this case, the firstborn Prince Tolui, or the "spare," the 10 year old Princess Alakai. The decision seemed obvious at first, until the unthinkable happened.
As a violent storm the likes of which had been unseen for years wracked the capital city, the young Alakai awoke with a start one morning to find herself having completely changed. The girl's eyes were suddenly a deep sky blue, reflecting that of his father after his evolution to a Metahuman. And though she herself already possessed the innate ability to float above the ground, she too found herself capable of controlling the very elements her father had wielded decades prior. While this phenomenon was unprecedented in the wider Metahuman world, the radical Tengriists and Buddhists within the late Emperor's inner circle saw it as one thing: the blood of Tengri lives on, His godlike powers passed miraculously to the young Princess Alakai. Such an astonishing event swayed the entire Kurultai, even the Prince Tolui himself, to proclaim the young girl as the next Khagan, and Empress of the Great Yuan. And to the relief of many, the young Prince, who has since distinguished himself as a pragmatist and sensible man, voluntarily took up the mantle as Prince-Regent, practically running the Empire in Her Majesty's name until the aspiring Empress' personal rule begins.
In the past five years, life in both the expansive Mongol territories, and by extension their many vassals in East Asia, has changed dramatically. Rather than rule through fear and coercion, the new regime has since turned to a policy of detente, granting the many feuding lords ethnic minorities of mainland China and Japan limited autonomy in an effort to preserve stability in the sector. And while this has greatly diminished the Yuan's overall power in East Asia, it has nonetheless prevented the outbreak of yet another long era of warring states. In these times of relative peace, the regime has dedicated ample resources to the betterment of the people, including investments in massive urbanization of fringe territories, and the restoration of both historical and religious sites. This has, in turn, swayed much of the East Asian populace to the Dynasty's newfound cause of peaceful integration, rather than obedience through fear or blind religious loyalty. And as the standard of living steadily improves, so too has the peoples' trust in and loyalty to the regime begun to grow.
But this is not to say the Empire has grown weak after the tyrant's fall, however. In fact, since the death of the Mèngyàn Emperor, its formidable military has only grown in strength. This is due largely in part to its own rising Metahuman program - a mysterious, arcane art that to this day remains unknown to almost any outside of the Dynasty's inner circle. In a series of shamanistic rituals, the Yuan have since begun to magically enhance their soldiers, taking in only the most loyal, courageous, and healthy of volunteers and turning them into engineered Metahumans - warriors whose superhuman attributes are matched only by their fanatic loyalty to the Empress herself. Within only a few years, tens of thousands of these Metahuman soldiers would begin filling the ranks of the armies, diligently preparing the Empire for whatever danger lurks in the near future. And whether that danger be internal strife or foreign meddling, the vast riches and terrifying might of the Yuan Dynasty stand ready to fight for a brighter future. Not only for a unified Mongolia or China, but a united East Asia.
Come what may, the Empire will endure.
Such is the will of Tengri.
The Míngzhì Empress (明智后)
Name: Her Imperial Majesty, Alakai, The Mingzhi Empress of the Great Empire of Yuan, Khagan of Mongolia and Great Lord of East Asia
Khereid Dorjigiin Alakai [Алакай Доржи, Alakai Dorji] (given name Alakai, patronymic Dorji/Dorjigiin, clan name Khereid, full name Khereid Dorjigiin Alakai-Khagan [Хэрэйд Доржигийн Алакай-Хаган]
Alias: 'Tengri'
Alignment: Dynasties
Age: 15
Appearance: A diminutive girl whose very aura radiates that of absolute authority, with sky blue eyes and flowing jet black hair trailing down her back. Her face seems almost permanently frozen in a listless, apathetic gaze, as if in a perpetual state of falling asleep. Though she often dons vibrant clothes and fine jewelry on ceremonial occasions, she otherwise dresses modestly in more private settings, preferring traditional Mongolian garb with warm furs in the colder months.
Additional physical features: When wielding her immense powers over nature, her eyes begin to radiate with a glimmering blue sheen.
Personality:
Oddly enough, before her ascension to the throne, Alakai was energetic, talkative, and by all accounts a talented girl with much promise. However, the sudden physical and mental changes she underwent after both the death of her father, and subsequent inheriting of his immense power, has left the young Empress seeming like a different person entirely. Now, in stark contrast to the zealous, charismatic and often hotheaded nature of her late father, Alakai is aloof, arbitrary, and apathetic to a fault. To those in her care, she seems almost detached from the world as a whole, going ominously silent and becoming lost in her own thoughts for hours at a time. And even when she is active, she cares little for rules or etiquette, often speaking her mind regardless of company and making many decisions on a whim with little consideration for the consequences or what others think.
Though this sudden shift in personality has sparked much worry among her caretakers and immediate family, much of this childish and introverted attitude also stems from her pampered and often lonely upbringing, as well as the sudden thrusting of rulership upon the shoulders of one sorely unprepared for it. And while her recent ascension to the throne has led to the Regency Council attempting to reign the young Empress in and prepare her for the responsibilities of governing the state, she is still known at times to be the same carefree and mischievous spirit she was as a child.
This is all not to say she is a useless pawn, however. In fact, much of her early life has been spent in the company of tutors and servants, who quickly found the young Empress to have much academic potential. But only time will tell if their attempts to instill discipline and etiquette in her will prove fruitful.
Abilities:
Levitation - Her Metahuman power that she's possessed since birth; Alakai is capable of effortlessly hovering in mid-air indefinitely with no loss of energy nor maneuverability to herself. In practice, it looks as if she has total control over her own gravity, allowing herself to "walk" on walls or ceilings, suspend herself upside-down, or slow her own fall. She is not as quick in this state as most other flight-capable metahumans, but nonetheless can use this ability as a means of locomotion.
Tengri's Blessing - A power that was inherited almost miraculously after the death of her father; Alakai is blessed with the tremendous power to bend unto her will not only the wrath of nature, but the very lifeblood of the Earth itself. This manifests itself in two ways:
- Tenger Etseg, Father Sky - Alakai is capable of manipulating the weather as she sees fit. On a whim, she can conjure and disperse clouds, rain, strong winds, thunderstorms, hail, snow, and thick fog seemingly out of thin air. By extension, this allows her to manipulate the very climate of an area for miles. And with enough concentration, she can wield destructive tornadoes, devastating hurricanes, and even harness the raw elemental power of lightning--either by calling it down from the heavens or propelling it from her fingertips.
- Gazar Eej, Mother Earth - By her mere presence, Alakai can alter the fertility of the land around her. At her will, she can make the soil, crops, and flora for miles thrive and prosper, or starve them into desolation until naught remains but a barren wasteland. Though this can be done on its own, her powers over the weather are capable of exacerbating these effects, typically via blessing the land with the rains it needs to survive, or choking it out with droughts and bitter cold.
Biography:
In contrast to her elder brother, Prince Tolui, the then Princess Alakai was born into a life of luxury and privilege.
Brought into the world after her father had already taken total control over their ancestral homeland of Mongolia, the young Alakai often wanted for nothing, and was used to getting whatever she wanted whenever she demanded it. Like many daughters and younger siblings of royalty, she spent much of her early childhood being tutored and groomed with the intention of being married off as a political bargaining tool, as the Mengyan Emperor and much of the regime were prepared for the eventual succession of Prince Tolui to the throne. It was a life that Alakai had few complaints about, as her responsibilities were minimal and her schedule was rife with free time to fool around and life a carefree life of fancy, free and whimsy. For a time, she seemed little more than a simple spoiled princess.
But following the untimely assassination of her father, coupled with her subsequent elevation to the throne, the previously free-spirited girl's life was suddenly turned upside down. With no warning, the responsibilities of governing and the phenomenal power of the elements were all thrust upon her, and the effects it had upon the young Alakai were clear from the beginning. It took little time for the new Empress to begin secluding herself into an introverted shell, shunning her responsibilities and attempting to find some solace from all the activity with her own studies and wanton whims. Even as the years pass--as her position as the rightful ruler of the Great Yuan has all but become secured, the young Empress still seems yet to fully embrace her duty as the supposed incarnation of Tengri and the great successor to Genghis Khan himself.
Five years later, the Empress could easily be considered one of the loneliest, most sheltered people on the planet. Still technically a minor, and barred by the millennia-old traditions of Chinese Imperial culture, Alakai is practically a slave to the incessant politicking and tutelage of the Imperial Regency Council. To some, the court is a mess of hidden corruption - a den of vipers, silently scheming to accumulate the most influence. And for Alakai, every waking moment of her life is spent under constant supervision by guards, ministers, tutors, and servants tending to her every need--ceaselessly grooming the young Empress for her eventual rulership. Free time outside of the Imperial Palace is practically nonexistent, save for the clandestine undercover adventures into the outside world occasionally provided by Prince Tolui.
Now, all in the court know that the time will soon come that the Mingzhi Empress will assume her personal rule, shaking off the cumbersome yoke of both Regent and Council, and stepping into the light as the head of what could easily be a superpower on the world stage...
Additional information:
While she shuns most of her advisors and tutors behind closed doors, Alakai holds a very close relationship with her elder brother. Likewise despising both courtly life and the politics that come with rulership, Tolui sympathizes with the unprepared Empress, and often indulges in her mischievous side by using his teleportation powers to take her on brief adventures and escapades around the world. It is also worth noting that, given her age and personality, the Empress is still a rebellious teenager at heart, even if she no longer wishes to admit it. In addition, she has taken a liking to some of the more traditional sports of her homeland, such as archery and horseback riding.
The Prince-Regent
Name: Prince Tolui of Yuan
Khereid Dorjigiin Tolui [Толуй Доржи, Tolui Dorji] (given name Tolui, patronymic Dorji/Dorjigiin, clan name Khereid, full name Khereid Dorjigiin Tolui-Noyan [Хэрэйд Доржигийн Толуй-Ноян]
Chinese given name 柯佗雷 (Kē Tuóléi), courtesy name 恩哲 (Ēnzhé)
Alias: 'The Mongol Prince' / 'The Regent'
Alignment: Dynasties
Age: 24
Appearance: A lanky figure with Asiatic features and a sharp, analyzing glint in the eyes. Though his jet black hair is largely unkempt, his beard is often trimmed short and neat. On official business, he typically dresses in a fine, western-style military uniform often worn by royalty around the world.
Additional physical features: (in casual clothing) Tolui is unusually tall, clocking in at an imposing 6'11'' and towering over most of his peers.
Personality:
Despite his disdain for the cutthroat nature of the world of politics, Prince Tolui has grown to become a beacon of both reason and stability in the Yuan regime. He is level-headed and quite humble, often forsaking his own immense influence over the Empress for the betterment of the Empire as a whole. He has shown to have a surprisingly strong sense of morality, abhorring war in all its forms and favoring a peaceful and pragmatic approach to most conflict.
Much of this attitude comes from his time spent outside of both politics and royal responsibilities for much of his teenage life. This austere, "un-Princely" upbringing among what many of the nobility and fellow Metahumans would consider "mundane peasants," has led to the Prince not just understanding, but often empathizing with the plight of the normal humans living beneath the Dynastic system. As such, in a sea of zealots and radicals, Tolui has distinguished himself as a passionate defender of the people.
However, following the ascension of his sister to the Imperial throne, and the subsequent thrusting of immense governing responsibility upon Tolui's shoulders, the recent years of incessant politicking among the seemingly chaotic Dynastic powers has left the Prince seeming somewhat dejected. He is easily capable of hiding this mindset in the presence of others, but the facade often falls in private, typically manifesting in bouts of cynicism and weariness.
Abilities:
Teleportation - A power inherited via his father from birth; With enough concentration, Tolui can vanish out of thin air and, in the blink of an eye, reappear in a different location. Though this holds very little benefit in combat, it nonetheless presents countless possibilities in terms of travel. Over the years, he has since discovered that there is little to no limit on the distance he can transport himself; a theory he put to the test when he executed a perfect jump from their palace in Mongolia all the way to the other side of the globe, appearing unscathed in the Americas before seamlessly jumping straight back home. The only limitation of this ability is that he must have either seen or know the appearance of his intended destination, though this can easily be solved with a recent photo or recording of the location in question. In the event that his destination is "blocked" by any means, the jump attempt seems to "fizzle out," like a failed magical spell. After further experimentation, he also discovered that he can take sizable objects and even other people alongside him, although at a noticeable loss of energy to himself.
Biography:
Tolui was brought into the world during a time of strife. Following the rise of his Metahuman father to the Lord of Mongolia and internationally-recognized Great Lord of East Asia, the soon-to-be heir to Dorji's Mongol Khanate (and eventually an all-powerful Dynasty in China) had a much more austere upbringing, and was initially forced to work hard for what he wanted in life. His father, though compelled to centralize as much power as he could around himself, nonetheless made sure that his firstborn was given a proper education. After his powers manifested, Tolui spent much of his childhood bouncing between various schools--first in China and later Japan, before touring the various surviving universities in the now Dynastic-ruled Europe. This lifestyle was hardly as uprooting for the young Prince as it would have been for other children, as his powers of teleportation allowed him to easily attend school, live at home, and visit friends and relatives whenever he willed it.
It was in his later teen years that Tolui was shown to have an exceptional intellect, and a deep-seated love for history, literature, and linguistics. While wholeheartedly supporting the Metahuman cause, he nonetheless was fascinated by the more democratic governments that came before. He quickly came to the conclusion that, as it was the Metahumans that lorded over them, it was their newfound duty to guide the common people to a better future - an opinion that was often deeply shunned by the more despotic, vengeful, and paranoid regimes of the new world order. And though the tyrannical Mengyan Emperor was certainly not of this mindset--and in fact often punished him severely for openly expressing such thoughts--Tolui catered a certain respect for his father, who nonetheless provided him with the freedom to explore and learn about the world around him.
Tolui completed his schooling and returned to Mongolia just in time for the Emperor, having spent the past several years carving out his new realm, to perish in an untimely assassination attempt. The news came as a grave shock to the then nineteen year-old Prince, who still felt that he was grossly unprepared for the trials and tribulations that came with governing an entire continent. Thankfully, however, his academic skill would pay off with the timely formation of the Imperial Regency Council, which swiftly formed a cohesive central government before a power gap could send East Asia into another bloody civil war. Over the next few days, the Mongols' immediate lords assembled a 'Kurultai' to elect the next monarch from the late Emperor's surviving children. It was here that the wheel of fate would take another unexpected turn, and lead to her little sister Alakai being placed on the throne in his stead - a unanimous decision spawned out of her miraculous inheriting of the late Emperor's powers over nature itself, thus convincing them that she is truly the next living incarnation of Tengri, and rightful successor to Genghis Khan himself.
Many in the upper echelons of power expected this to come as an outrage to Tolui, having for much of his life been considered the designated heir to the throne. But even to this day, the Prince hides his relief that he was spared the responsibility of leading an Empire already on strained terms with various Metahuman regimes around the world. Unfortunately, this has proven to make little difference, as the age and inexperience of the newly-proclaimed Mingzhi Empress renders her unable to effectively govern without the assistance of both him and the rest of her ministers. As such, the educated and pragmatic Prince Tolui remains as the undisputed head of the Imperial Regency Council, ever standing by his sister's side and providing all the assistance she needs to steer the fledgling Dynasty on the right path to glory and prosperity.
Additional information: Tolui has an almost natural linguistic talent, and can understand and communicate in more than fourteen languages. Aside from his native Mongolian, he is fluent in English, Japanese, Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese, Spanish, and German. He is also roughly familiar with Korean, French, Italian, Hindi, Russian, Malay, and Farsi--most of these with varying degrees of fluency. Coupled with his Metahuman abilities and position at the very top of the Imperial court, Tolui serves as the Yuan's most trusted dignitary, embarking on diplomatic missions himself and standing in the Empress' stead as her representative in the Dynastic Council.

Name: Aisling Keyes
Alias: Aisling Mac Aodha,Crom Dubh, Gan Ceann
Alignment: Clan Mac Mathghamhna
Age: 24
Appearance: Aisling had a relatively average if tall build, at least before the accident that revealed her latent powers and subsequent augmentations at the hands of the Morrígan. Now, she's a deathly pale woman with eyes and hair as black as the raven that symbolizes her master, and she has bulked up as a result of her duties.
Additional physical features: Her head has been separated from her body and is usually carried with her underarm. The stump of her emanates a harmless black mist.
Personality: Compared to the insanity of the head of Clan Mac Mathghamhna and many of her inner-circle, Aisling is a bastion of comparative sanity. She attempts to maintain a professional distance while carrying out her bloody business and remains far from cruel, giving her targets an odd sense of relief compared to the Morrígan's other enforcers who are more than willing to engage in torture to make a point. While carrying out her orders, nothing is personal, but that doesn't mean she need not be humane.
Away from her macabre duties, Aisling makes an attempt to be personable and certainly appreciates the value of humor and good spirit when she can find it, especially while away from the court in Dublin. That said, she is never quite so sure when she can fully relax even while completely alone on her travels. The Morrígan has plenty of eyes and ears, and her wrath is the one thing that Aisling truly fears above anything else.
Abilities:
Enhanced Vision: Aisling's vision is superior to baseline humans in several factors. Her vision is extraordinarily sharp and has basic zoom functionality. She sees equally as well in total darkness as though it was broad daylight. Finally, she has the ability to visually detect metahumans, though she cannot determine anything regarding the nature of their powers.
Body Autonomy: Given that her head is already separate from her body, it isn't any surprise that she can control her body without needing her head affixed to it. She also has a sense of where her body is, what is it doing, and what is going on around it without needing a physical connection. However, the degree of fine control and the strength of her sixth sense about her body depends on the physical proximity of the head to the body.
Enchanted Equipment: The Morrígan has seen fit to provide Aisling with equipment to perform her duties with. Her massive axe is lightweight, at least while in her hands, startlingly sharp, and icy cold to the touch. Her archaic plate armor is similarly enchanted, being light for its size and incredibly strong, though it is still by no means quiet compared to going without it and neither does it render her completely impervious to mundane or meta threats. Finally, she has a horse-drawn cart, covered in bone decorations to match the carts of Dullahan in legend, which can greatly reduce the time to travel across Europe.
Regeneration: Though far from the strongest regeneration by metas, Aisling has some degree of regeneration and heals far quicker than baseline humans. It's particularly at dealing with grievous wounds to a relatively small part of her body. Deep thrusts and slashes can be stiched back together by her body at a rate sustainable in combat so long as her defense isn't overwhelmed. It does, however, struggle when trauma is spread out over her body from, for example being too close to an explosion or being immolated.
Biography: Aisling was born in Omagh to a quietly Republican family and was, beyond a better healing factor, seemingly a perfectly baseline human, with her head attached and with a very healthy skin tone. Her youth has left her with very few memories of the world prior to the new order of Metahumans. Despite the Morrígan's consolidation of power, Aisling's life was fairly mundane for most of her life, enjoying a decent if nationalist education. Her family adapted to the new order well and adopting a more moderate version of the brand of Pagan Revivalism favored by the Goddess-Queen, but they were mostly below notice of the state.
Until an occurance that made more sense to Aisling in hindsight. While in Castlederg visiting family in 2016, she noticed a single raven silloutetted on the moon while biking on a country roud outside the village and she felt a blow on her neck as she rode. She recoiled in hot searing painand flipped the bike in the darkness of the evening. As she reoriented herself, she watched her own headless body rise from the ground, walk over, and lift her up off the ground, and yet she herself was fine. Dusting herself off awkwardly, she got back on her bike and rode home. She tried to make the most of her remaining summer in Castlederg after that. Yet, when she went back home to Omagh, a Gardaí vehicle was there waiting for her to take a long ride to Belfast.
The local meta in charge there very quickly sent her on a longer ride to Dublin County, this time in a unmarked car. When they finally stopped and allowed her to leave the car, they were parked on the side of a wooden road in Cruagh, high up in the Dublin Mountains. She was told to follow, and was led towards a glade flanked by unnaturally large oaks with a few oaks of uncompariable size clustered relatively close together. The surreal sight of men, in suits, leading her towards a scene out of a fairy tail stunned her into silence as they lead her into one of the trees.
As Aisling entered the tree, which was a completely strange sensation of itself, she was greeted by the Morrígan herself, or rather Macha in specific. as the men closed the door behind her. She wanted to introduce herself, to say something to the woman who had brought her here for some reason beyond her own knowledge. Yet, before the words came to her, a furiously swung axe by Nemain dug itself into the door and cleanly severed Aisling's head from her body.
Searing pain shot through Aisling's body, and yet she did not feel the life fade from her as her head rested perfectly on the axe. Her body, meanwhile, reached up, grabbed her head off the axe and stepped forward. She was then made an offer and, considering she had just lost her head, she knew better than to say no to the the Morrígna when they made an "offer."
It took her a while to adjust to the new job, as one of the Morrígan's executioners, but there was little choice in the matter. Her family had adapted before, she could adapt as well.
