The name of the currency likely originates from its first attested form of small metal daggers made of copper and electrum over 2300 years ago. These daggers were all roughly the same size and shape, cast in moulds with a ring at the end of the handle to allow for tying together with string for easier carry.
By 100 PA, the currency had become a measure of mass of gold or silver, and while the dagger form was still used, most people traded variously shaped lumps of metals rather than any specifically crafted bullion.
The Nikopolian Empire adopted properly minted coinage in 146 PA, and it has evolved in this form until the adoption of paper money in 740 PA. Bullion went out of use as people began trading almost exclusively using representative money, often with strange denominations of parts of a blade.
In 982 PA, the Nikopolian Empire reformed its currency to introduce representative coinage and standardise the denominations to full amounts of Blades and introduced the sub-denomination, the Sentim, of 1/100th of a Blade.
In 1312 PA, the Empire abandoned Silver and Electrum backed currency, and moved off the remaining Gold Standard to Fiat currency gradually over the course of the 1600's PA.
The most recent reform, in 1799 PA, removed 1 and 2 Sentim and 2, 5, and 10 Blade coins from circulation due to the diminishing value of the Sentim and the massive eclipsing of the larger coins usage by their Banknote forms.
