The sky was already getting choked with clouds. The air was becoming thick. Rays of sunlight fought a losing battle to not be strangled into darkness as he sniffed the air. No good.
The scent of ozone before things got bad was usually obvious to him but all he could get right now was the metallic scent of spilled blood and the unique stench that came from rotting wurm guts. A detachment of knights and mages had fought a youngling one nearby and, credit to them, managed to slay it. Though the effort had awakened the much bigger mother, who proceeded to tear the already exhausted humans to shreds with the spines along her serpentine body. They had lain down their lives for essentially nothing and he failed to see the wisdom in continuing to have such patrols flail about uselessly in the wilderness like this.
He was a Demi-god, a child of the revered pantheon, with better attunement to anything divine than they, yet even he could not tell exactly where the miracle child of Luria was hidden. Did the humans plan to scour the land inch by inch? They would run out of fighters long before the goal was accomplished. No. There wasn't a plan.
They were a dying species groping about the darkness of a world determined to kill them, praying for that one light of salvation that their desperate fingers could grasp before the last of them took their final breath. He didn't care much one way or another about humanity's fate, he had little interaction with them for most of his life, but their was a certain painfulness to watching the sheer scale of their impotency. Like a deer run so ragged by wolves that once caught could not even muster the energy to fight for its life. Under the maws of monsters and claws of nature, all they could do was squirm as the light went dark.
He would miss the small children though. They reminded him of the cubs and pups he often helped care for. His nose raises in the air for another sniff. Still just copper and that putrid odor. The wind direction was carrying it right to him so he wouldn't be able to get an accurate reading until going a little further.
The die was cast on whether it was just an overcast day or a storm brewing to batter them later then. While he would survive, it would not be pleasant and would impede his progress. It was important he get to Tyranach, the capital, as soon as possible. Each day the moon child was not in his hands was another day the humans could find it and do who knows what. Sacrifice it, raise it as a tool only, try to create some line of new soldiers from it; their imagination was not limited.
That wasn't including the monsters, who could make everyone's efforts wasted by simply devouring the child. So even with no idea what he would do afterwards and with only the most vague of reasoning from his missing mother, it was best if the moon child came into his possession. But he needed one thing from the humans for that. Their expertise.
They had seers that had likely experienced their own vision and vast knowledge of the pantheon. With his higher physical ability and divine attunement, perhaps pooling their resources would give them an accurate location.
The young Demi-god huffs at the idea, dropping to all fours to cross a rougher hilly patch of the road. He was so different from them. Able to move like an animal that flowed with the terrain while they took on a slowed gait against even small inclines. Monsters that tore screams from their throats he could hunt to make his tools. He was completely independent from them, had always been, yet in his most critical hour he needed them.
"Mother, do you do this to me on purpose?" He wondered aloud. No answer. Of course not. Her voice had been silent since the first day she told him of the quest he was now on.
He had little memory of his mother, none at all of his father, but he loved both of them. There was a reason they were gone, he was sure of it. One day he wished to ask them. But until then he would be grateful they had put him where they had to give him the best life possible.
More creatures. A band of goblins looting the remains of a shelter split open by lightning. It appeared they were still nursing wounds from a previous battle though, the little humanoids rapidly waving broken blades to signal retreat and limping off on dragging legs. Hopefully there was more sturdy protection along the way if a storm came down.
He would have to keep going in any case. Supposedly this new child could bring ruin or elation, his mother was unfortunately also vague on whether that meant for him or the world at large, but finding it was highest priority.

That dream again. Azron collected his thoughts as he woke up in the abandoned hut. As he shook off the remaining grip of sleep, he noticed a bluish hue fad from his skin. That's new he thought as he scanned the room and began his morning routine. The young wanderer began with checking for danger and reorienting himself. Both necessary when one wakes up somewhere new every morning.

He broke the fast with a leftover piece of rabbit. As he scraped the flesh off the bones with his teeth, Azron considered his situation. He was long considering that his search must come to an end. He had lost any trail of Marili, and the trails of any bandits were disappearing too, even the tracks of game were harder to find. The explanation for all those things were easy to find. Marili, the woman who raised him was gone, the bandits that escaped his wrath have either died from the many dangers or have given up banditry for a more profitable business. The game was scarce because he was nearer to civilization.

None of these answers really helped him to decide what to do next. To follow the example of the bandits and become a farm worker didn't seem appealing to him. Azron had experience has a shepherd and maybe he could get a flock together, but this dream seemed to be telling him something. Marili had also told him that dreams were messages from the gods. But why do the gods need to speak in riddles he wondered as he considered the images in the dream a baby in the moonlight, faces he did not know, a winged woman, a temple and for the first time last night, a city. It was no much of a clue, but perhaps he could follow it and the gods would help him. Which city it was, he did not know, but he knew it wasn't the one he just passed, so he might as well follow the road to the next one.

Stepping out of the hut, he picked up his staff, slung his pack over his shoulder and whistled for his dog.

"Ouch!" she said after falling from the tree again, she has tried this 4 or 5 times already but still can't get on the top of the tree, she tried to climb the trees so she could feel the cold breeze over the top but she still has a lot to practice to even get halfway through, she could climb mountains but not trees? As she asked herself these questions she remembers that she couldn't sleep in the past few days, she couldn't stop thinking about that dream, her mother told her about this child, the possible salvation of humanity, the son or daughter of Luria. She was tasked to find whoever this child is, she didn't question her mother, even though she left her to her own years ago and she had no one but herself, she still loves her mother and she thinks there is a valid reason for that although she didn't understand it yet, maybe it was her destiny to learn on her own.

She finally decided to give up climbing the tree grabbed her stuff and continue to move on, she supposedly is heading to the capital but she didn't know where she is exactly and how long will it take to get there. It shouldn't have been this long does it? It didn't matter anyway she still needed to continue walking and walking. She is just beside a small path where few people would pass through with their carriages, and she would exchange some food for medicinal herbs when no one was looking and escape before anyone notices. She would normally hunt her food but she wasn't very good at it, she was lucky to even hunt a small rabbit, but as it is right now everything should be fine as long as she rations her food so it lasts longer.

She keeps walking along the river, not trying to debate why the child is special if it is the salvation of humanity then the search should be worth it. Her mother blessed her with her healing powers and considers it as a gift for her, the least she could do to return the favor was to fulfill her mother's wishes, "A little bit of help wouldn't hurt mother" she says to herself but she didn't respond, she is probably busy doing something, she doesn't know what it is but she knows she is being watched by her in some way since she wouldn't leave her completely alone, would she? She shook her head not trying to think about it and continue her journey to the capital.

Cear Gwain, a fortified house, guarding over the estate of the same name. It was the headquarter of the Order of Stellarum Tripudium, or the "Dancing Stars", a somewhat martial Order dedicated to Liara. It was located central, surrounded by cottages and fields, that were themselves surrounded by a ring of watchtowers. In the last years, the Order - and their young Demigod girl - had struck down several monsters trying to kill their farmers but some damage to the architecture that had been makeshift repaired reminded everyone that there had also been instances, when they had ran or hidden away from stronger-then average threats to return later, after the danger had passed.

So far, the current year had been decent, with the death of only one of the farmers and the harvest was prospected to be good.
In the main hall, there was a general assembly and the Brother Trijan pointed out the consequences of this: "We have an opportunity here. We can even make a surplus this year. But we need everyone. With the farmers on the fields, we cannot afford to have even a single watchtower unmanned at any times, as we need to be able to react quickly to possible monster sightings."
"And how much would this 'surplus' matter? How many people in Reimchester would this feed for a year? 30, 40? There's almost 10,000 people in the city most of them not knowing what to eat. No, we need to put our faith in a different plan," a woman named Kylie responded. Although the Order was organized in a base-democratic fashion, she was regarded by many as something like a leader. "The moon-child is this opportunity. If Saoirse's vision had indeed been of the present or recent past, this means, that at least there is still a way to get in contact with Luria, and if we can do that we may reach Liara through her."

"This assembly is not about whether I will be going or not," Saoirse said with the snotty attitude of an average 13 year old. The reaction by the adults on the other hand were making clear, that she was not average. "I will be going and I only want to know if some of you will come with me." There was some murmuring among the Brothers and sisters of the Order, quite a few were willing to follow Saoirse on her quests even if it meant leaving the secured estate. The girl continued: "I only need three, we can spare three without compromising the safety of the harvest. Specifically, I would like to take Kylie with me, she knows mystic things and the lore of the Gods and the bloodlines they have created among the population in the last century or so. Also, I would like to have Gabija with me. Here Runic magic has shown to be not that effective in a straight-up battle - no offence - but her arcane knowledge would be really valuable on this quest." - "None taken," a tall, blond woman with facial tattoos in the corner answered. When she had come to Ayrtica, the Order had quickly taken her in. Both that she had already been a follower of Liara in Cwarensgard, her homeland and that she knew at least some magic made her an remarkable asset.
"And finally," Saoirse continued, "I'd like to take Keegan with me because sometimes people might be willing to help, if they are asked by a 40 year old man with the Aura of a fatherly priest or knight, even when they would not help three women." - "Can I take offence in the suggestion that this is all I'm good for?" Keegan answered, jokingly. He was after all not just an annoyed priest by what resemblance of structure the Priesthood of Liara had before the fall, he was also a weapon master, who was still able to teach Saoirse a few weapon tricks, even if her superior speed and agility meant, that she had long surpassed him in martial power.

Trijan and the other Order members, who had previously argued to stay together realized, that they were not going to be able to convince Saoirse or the ones who wanted to go with her in this case.

The next day, Saoirse, Kylie, Gabija and Keegan left Cear Gwain. They stocked up on carpentry materials in Reimchester, as the waystations on the westward road were no longer permanently inhabited and they feared that they might have been damaged by roaming monsters. While Black Snow was not especially likely this time of the year, it still was a risk, they did not want to challenge by sleeping in the open.

A moon. It’s beam shone like a spotlight over mountains. It started at a lighthouse, moved to a monastery. Merlin chased it, though he wasn’t sure why. He followed a road and moved past an abandoned house, a hag outside selling goods. He arrived in another city. Then followed another road and arrived at another city. Another road and the moon stopped above the largest temple to the moon in the surviving cities. The capital.

He then awoke. His room was dark. A porthole allowed some light in. Merlin got up and walked to his window. The sea was angry with waves. Rain pounded his window. A few snowflakes melting as it hit the glass. A beam shining and disappearing. Not moonlight, but the light of fire reflected by mirrors. The lighthouse beam.

Looking back into his room he saw his captains bed, his desk, and his closet. He got dressed. A tunic and trousers. He then went downstairs. The sun wasn’t out yet. lamps burning alcohol lit the main level of the lighthouse.

“Good morning” Merlin said, spotting his mom. A 35 year old lady with red hair. “Good morning dear” she replied back. “How was your sleep?” He paused. “It was fine.” He didn’t look sure though. “Are you sure? You look tired?” He nodded. “I had that dream again”. “With the moon?” Merlin nodded. His mom looked concerned. “Why don’t we go to the monastery after the storm, they should know something. You’ve been having this dream for at least a week now”.

Merlin smiled. “Thank you. Do you know where Dad is?” She pointed to the stairs. “He’s tending to the light. Mirror nodded. “Thank you”. He went back up stairs.

Although the main floor was the kitchen, the second floor was the living room to catch the heat from the stove. Then the alchemy lab. Then bedrooms. The top floor was the light and the floor below that was storage for the light. Lots of barrels full of alcohol in case a shipment is late. They could make it 4 or 5 missed shipments before running out. Merlin considered that a good thing. Sometimes they’ve gone 2 or 3 missed shipments because somebody got sick and was quarantined or killed.

He soon saw his dad. A 35 year old gentleman with a full beard and well kept hair. “Good morning my boy”. “Good morning Dad”. Merlin replied. His dad looked hard at work. Rain and snow pounded the glass surrounding the lighthouse beacon. He tried to keep the light bright enough to penetrate the fog.

“I had that dream again. Mom says I should go talk to the monks about it”. His dad didn’t stop but did think about his answer before talking. “If that’s what your mother thinks is best than I’m for it kiddo. But wait until after this storm”. “Mom thought that would be best as well”. Merlin said. His dad nodded. “Great men think alike”. Merlin then replied. “And fools seldom differ”. The two shared a laugh.

“Can I help you with anything Dad?” His dad finished up with an adjustment. “Sure. Can you fill this up for me?” His dad handed him a tin cup. Merlin nodded and walked down the stairs. He uncorked a barrel and filled up the cup with alcohol before recorking it.

Merlin handed it to his dad. “Here you go”. “Thanks Dolphin” his father proceeded to pour the cup little by little into a device that feeds the flame. “That should do for now”. His dad said.

With the lighthouse taken care of his dad said “Have you helped your mom yet?” He shook his head no. “Well why don’t you go help her out with her alchemy while I go make us breakfast”. Merlin nodded.

He hurried down the stairs. He found his mom in the alchemy lab on the third floor. Cuboards filled with flasks, tools, and various ingredients surrounded the room. Greeting his mom he announced “Can I help you with something? Dad is making breakfast” His mom nodded. “Sure, honey”. She got him to go over to another table. “I am making some anti venom for Marcus. He was bitten by that snake yesterday and I didn’t have time to help then. His leg is probably getting swollen now”. “That’s too bad” Millard offered

The two of the spent the next hour working on it. He helped with getting ingredients, measuring, and almost all steps under his mother’s guidance and supervision. When they were done she said “Very good. A little more practice and you will probably be ok to do it on your own”. Millard was happy to here that.

Once they were done they went downstairs to the kitchen. His father had prepared pancakes, mead, fruit, eggs, ham, and yogurt for them to have. “Thank you, Dad”. “No problem” he responded. By now the storm was clearing up.

“So you had that dream again?” His dad asked. Millard nodded. “Do you think it’s a sign?” His mom inquired. Millards shrugged. “I don’t know”. His parents looked at each other and then back to him. His mom then said “well, we’ll go talk to the monks and they can provide some help”. “Thank you” Merlin said with appreciation.

Once the storm was all over after breakfast Merlin put on a sheepskin hat, mittens, and cloak, and the three of them left to go to the monastery and talk to the monks.

A long and lonesome road. Lonelier than what Julia Lara had expected when she first set out on this journey. In the past she'd always been accompanied by at least one other Knight of the Tower, but this time it was part of the quest to travel solo. It made her more nervous than she cared to admit even for herself. Well, at least she had her trusted steed, Mr. Whiskers. Together they were a sight alright, the giant white panther with the comparably tiny girl in black armour on top. The large cat was certainly more imposing than his name suggested, but it had been given to him as a kitten, when Julia first found him. Abandoned by his mother, just like Julia. Ever since that day, they had been best friends.

But Julia had another best friend too, which she hadn't seen in a long time. Polly Darvin, the bard. Was she still in the capital, or had she had the same dream and calling as Julia, to find the moon child? Probably a wish in vain, but human company and a friendly face would've made the long road seem shorter, should they meet up. Human company... Yes, Julia regarded herself as human, even though she was a halfblood. The gods had never been there for her the way so many humans had. So if the sayings were true, that the moon child could save humanity from extinction, then Julia would find it and help those that she regarded as her people.

She travelled lightly, with only the most necessary things packed in the saddle bags. It was a luxury Julia could afford, since she usually could shapeshift into something else if she suddenly found herself in a pickle. And although she was prepared for hardships, she was still youthfully confident that any dangers ahead would be far less severe than what the knights had warned her about.

There was another group further ahead on the road. Three women, one of them just as young as her, and another with facial tattoos, along with a man. Curiousity got the better of Julia, and she decided to approach them. With Mr Whiskers in trot, she raised her hand to sign that she had peaceful intentions. As she came closer, she slowed down as to not alarm them, and greeted them with a smile.

"Hail, fellow travellers! You're the first people I've seen in days, and it seems we're going the same way. Mind if I join you for a bit?"

Maybe she was naive. Maybe they were bandits, witches, or even monsters in human form. There was of course also the possibility that they were decent people, which is what Julia assumed.

The peaceful gesture and kind words stood in clear contrast to her appearance, and the group reacted understandably on edge as Julia approached.

Saoirse and Keegan stood in front, protecting the others. Keegan had drawn a large longsword from his back, while Saoirse and Kylie had drawn smaller swords. Gabija had grabbed a sling-staff and as she loaded a pebble that had a rune painted onto it, the rune slightly lighted up.

"Well, if you can keep your mount from eating our faces..." Saoirse answered, "speaking of faces, I'd like to see yours. Also - and I'm sure you don't hear this the first time - we are like skeptic when it comes to lone travelers of unusual appearance. And a small, black person on a big, white cat, that totally qualifies as unusual. I hope you don't mind if my witch checks you."

Gabija gave her a quick side-eye: "You sure?" but sighted and put away her sling. She took out two coins but none minted in the Ayrtican Kingdom nor any neighboring kingdom there had been. One was from copper, the other one from iron, about two fingers wide. They were not engraved but there were two runes one them, one on each. "It's a very simple divination spell, can you hold this one in one hand and this one," she said holding up the iron coin, "in the other hand so that I can see the symbol? Gauntlets are no problem." Gabija got ready to gently lob the coins over to Julia. She was not sure what Saoirse's plan was. They had talked about what runes Gabija knew that could help them discern whether possible traveling companions were trustworthy and the sorceress had answered that she knew a spell, that broke illusions - but did Saoirse think the armored girl on the panther was an illusion? If a mage - or monster - disguised their appearance, wouldn't they choose something less "unusual"? Maybe Saoirse just wanted to test, if Julia was trusting and judge from there, if she was also trustable.

Nephele is tired after the long walk to the Capital, but she finally gets close to her destination with not much to do now that she thinks about it. She didn't want to stay in the open for too much longer so she looks around for a good place to settle and finally decides to set up her tiny hut, not too close to the entrance but also not so far away, and so she eats some bread and looks around for any possible stranger following her, with no one particularly suspicious she sits in his hut thinking about how big city is and how many people may live within it and can't stop feeling nervous about what would happen if someone knows about her being the daughter of Eir the Goddess of Healing, so she imagined the amounts of people that could praise her and others who would take advantage of those powers.

She looks at the clouds with no way of knowing whether it will snow or not, and even if it does she has a comfortable place to stay and being also tolerant to the cold makes it even better, "I wonder when will it be the day I get to see a clear sky?" she says as she remembers watching the clear blue sky when she was little, not remembering much of those days and it isn't something she may want to remember. Since there is nothing else to do she grabs her small ax and cuts herself a little bit to practice her healing, it takes some time but she is able to cure the small wound by herself, "Wonderful!" she says excited, and hopefully, she will improve her healing and become as powerful as her mother.

Azron walked briskly along the street to Tyranach. The traffic had increased as he got closer. Impatient to arrive at his destination, he had given up hiding from every approaching traveler. They were mostly carters transporting grain and other produce to the city, or transporting goods from the city to the country. Neither the wagon drivers paid much attention to the young boy, other than to avoid him.

It was not surprising then, when seeing a group of people in the distance, coming his way, he paid them no attention. Instead Azron scanned the breath taking landscape before him. One the horizon he could barely make out a city, even with his exceptional eyesight. Could it be the one in his dream? It was too far away to be sure, but the possibility gave him hope. Much nearer and to his left was a castle, overlooking the road from its hilltop. The boy could not make out the flag that flew from the castle, but could tell that it was gold or white and not the royal blue.

"Come Filo" he said to his sheepdog that was busy smelling something near the road, and continued on his way. Soon he made out the group on the road, men of arms, perhaps from the castle? Walking on his way, he didn't even move from the center of the road.

"Greetings!"

"Greetings."

"Where are you headed?"

"Tyranach."

"We can escort you there... It won't cost too much."

"I could make you too the same offer, every flock of sheep needs a shepherd."

One of the men laughed. The rest laughed with him. By now all six of the men had encircled the boy, however, their stance was relaxed. They clearly saw no threat. "You are cheeky, but I like cheek" the man said. "Come now, it is to dangerous to travel alone. Come work for my Lord, it is better in the city. You can tend his pigs"

"I can see that they need looking after, but I must refuse."

Insulted a few of the men stepped forward, but their leader stopped them short of hitting the boy. "He is probably an orphan with no one to teach him better" the leader said. The rest of the men looked more than eager to teach the boy. Azron however seemed more concerned with his dog. Who was beginning to growl. To calm Filo, Azron spoke to him in the tongue of the East.

"Are you a foreigner?"

"Yes"

"Do you have a pass?"

"Certainly not."

"Then you will have to come with us."

Azron consented, but Filo was not on the same page, and when a man grabbed his master, the dog barked and went to bite. The man cursed the dog and kicked it. His colleague not satisfied with the kick drew back his spear to strike the dog.

The kick was enough for Azron though, in an instant his eyes burned red, his whole body seemed to burn and he turned a pinkish hue. Not that he was aware of any of this, for in a split second, he had attacked. First, he pushed against the nearest man of arms, and crouching down turned towards the one to the right and yanked his foot out from under him with the shepherd's staff. This was not enough to save Filo, the spear hit him, even if it missed his chest.

The whole group was surprised by Azron, his sudden aggression, his strength and his change in appearance. As they regrouped he attacked them with his bullock knife. First knocking it across the face of his nearest opponent and then attempting to drive it into the chest plate of the man on the ground. The knife was not well made, and the chest plate thick, so that the knife broke.

Azron turned again to face his enemies. Two lay now on the ground and one off to his right. Across from him were the three uninjured men of arms, in a defensive formation. Without hesitation he charged one facing him, dodging the spear he threw his weight into the shield. As the spear retracted, he grabbed it's shaft and drove it's head into the helmet of his opponent. Azron the drew the knocked out man's sword from its sheath and charged the rest. Their line broken, the men of arms threw their spears and drew their swords. What followed was the clashing of steel against steel, as Azron swung his sword like a mad man.

A man on his knees begged. It was the leader. This sight had brought Azron out of his rage, or was it his dog? "Have mercy, forgive us" It seemed like the short pause was all the men of arms needed to run away. The leader yelled back as he flew. "Sorry, we didn't know who you are!"

Azron thought Who am I?

Nephele got out of her hut to investigate her surroundings, she didn't like to not have any knowledge of the land surrounding her and it would be a mistake to not take that into account. As the cold breeze kept on flowing around the trees surrounding her, making some leaves fall into the ground, a beautiful sight to see, she looked around and looked at one of the roads that get to the castle, was it a dirt road? She did not want to know before and avoided it because she didn't want a lot of attention and she didn't even have planned a way to enter the capital so she stayed a little bit far away from the road.

"Curiosity killed the cat", she said before even thinking about taking a look at the road to investigate more about it and the people passing through it, but it could be an opportunity to find a strategy to enter the capital without making much noise. After debating about it she decides to take a closer look but not close enough to get the attention of the people, what would they think if they saw a girl watching them through the woods? She would probably get unnecessary attention and a lot of gossip over her would become a problem. Either way, she got close enough to the road so she could see it and far enough so no one else could see her, at least that's what she thought.

After a couple of minutes, nothing interesting was happening, just normal human beings walking around the path leaving or entering the gates of the capital. Then she saw a couple of knights? Were they some sort of guards? And what were they doing so far from their stalls? A lot of questions came to her mind as those people gathered around a boy, probably the same age as her, "Despicable, taking advantage of small kids like them is something to be ashamed of", she whispered to herself. She noticed a dog just beside the kid, the dog was cute but then not so cute when it bite one of the guards arms and got stabbed with his spear, she was shocked but even more so when the kid's skin became a pinkish-blue color and a really big fight alongside it with an amazing win for the boy.

She knew instantly that he wasn't just a normal kid, his skills in fighting and his unique change in strength were abnormal, he is probably one of the sons of the gods/goddesses as well. She quickly looked around to see if anyone else saw that but it didn't seem like others were close enough to see it and so she sighed in relief luckily only those guards were the only ones who know about this kid's powers, she turned her face to the dog lying on the floor, he was hit by the spear and it barely missed his chest, but the wound was not deep enough to kill the dog. She did not want to get close to the kid because he was more powerful than her and probably getting close would be a really bad idea, but she didn't want the dog to suffer a lot.

Debating about it was not an option and she had to make a decision right now, luckily there were some rocks around her, big enough to probably catch his attention, so she threw some rocks to his direction close enough so he notices them.

Once the storm was all over after breakfast Merlin put on a sheepskin hat, mittens, and cloak, and the three of them left to go to the monastery and talk to the monks.

Leaving the lighthouse, Merlin stepped out onto the stone walkway that was still a little slippery after the rain storm. Up ahead he could make out the familiar circle of the ancient Cothon Harbour. The walk wasn’t too far until they made their way into town, but Merlin once more witnessed the vessels left moored to the dock - both still in use and abandoned. A testament to better days.

Once in town Merlin set foot on the smooth paved and metalled roads he had walked on all his life. The precisely cut and put together stones that had seem so much history roll over them. To his right he saw the city forum, black smiths, carpenters, merchants, and others plying their wares between abandoned stalls.

In front of him he saw someone sneeze. He recognized him as one of the other alchemists in the city. He had come to the lighthouse multiple times for dinner and for work. Merlin felt sad for the man. One of the local Mages soon cast a shield around the man as a quarantine and he was escorted out of view. Merlin didn’t think he would see him again as he watched the man leave, his eyes looking down. Looking up at his mom he thought he could see her biting her lip.

It had been a rough 12 years. This was no exception. Family and friends were frequently being killed. The man being escorted was even a member of the city council. That didn’t help him though. Around him as he was led away was the mage, 2 guards, and a doctor. The doctor wore a black outfit with the symbols of medicinal herbs on it, and a face mask.

Merlin and his parents quickly turned to the left and walked towards the monastery. The structure had a solid wall around it, and multiple buildings inside with domed roofs. Two wooden doors flanked by torches provided entrance.

Merlin knocked on the doors. A voice came from the inside. “Welcome to the monastery. How may we be of service”. Merlin looked at his parents nervously, letting the silence fill the air. His parents soon gave him a smiling nudge and Merlin looked back towards the heavy wooden doors to the monastery. “I have been having dreams. I was hoping to see if one of the monks could help me?”

The monk had a pause as well before answering. “You may come in”. The doors soon opened and the three of them were ushered in. “Welcome”. The monk began. He wore an off white habit. “We do need you to rest in the gazebo for the next hour. If you show symptoms you will be asked to leave”. Merlin nodded.

The three of them walked to a gazebo in the middle of a meadow on the hill and sat down. Merlin expressed his concerns to his parents about the situation. They tried their best to comfort him and talk to him about regular events.

When the hour passed it was clear none were infected. They had not coughed or sneezed. The same Monk approached them. “Thank you for your patience. One cannot be too careful”. The three of them nodded in agreement. The thought of everyone he had seen led away over the last 12 years passing through Merlins mind. “I will take you to Hadvar”.

Merlin followed the monk into a central building with a bright tiled floor and a wide domed roof. Paintings adorning the walls and roof. Merlin was led further inside and then up two sets of stairs to the third floor. A short distance away he was taken in to see Hadvar.

Hadvar appeared to be in his 40’s, although 50’s could be possible as well. As Merlin walked in the room Hadvar appeared to be nursing a bump on his arm.

“Hello” Hadvar said looking up. The two had met on previous occasions. It wasn’t an everyday occurrence but it was frequent enough to know each other somewhat. “How May I help you?” Merlin took a deep breath. “I have been having the same dream every night for the last week”. Hadvar nodded. “And you would like me to explain what it means to you?” Merlin nodded. “If possible. Yes please”.

Hadvar nodded. “Ok. What was your dream?” Merlin explained it as best he could. The moon beam, the hag, the roads and cities, everything”. Hadvar was quiet for a bit. “You have a very interesting dream”. “Can you help me?” Merlin asked. “I think so”. Hadvar grabbed a piece of paper and a stick of graphite. He started to list aspects from the dream.

“The moon clearly represents Lieura. Something is calling you to her temple in the capital”. Merlin wondered if it had to do with the moon child. “The first piece of your journey is Tursbury. You need to avoid the Hag and get bandits. You met them previously I remember”. The memory of nearly being sacrificed was not one Merlin particularly enjoyed. “After Tursbury you should go through the ruins of Bury and then travel north through the kings road. You will arrive at the capital. Once you’re there you should find the Temple to the moon”.

Merlin looked to his parents. “Should I go”. They looked at each other. There was some worry about what would happen to him but also some recognition of his abilities. “It’s up to you”. Merlin thought about it. What if if it did have to do with the moon child. This could be important. His mind also turned to the alchemist from a little over an hour before. “I think it would be a good idea”. His parents nodded. “If that’s what you want to do, then we should at least make sure you are prepared”. Merlin agreed. He then turned to Hadvar. “Thank you Hadvar. I appreciate your help. I should go prepare. Have a good day”. Hadvar smiled. “You as well, Merlin. Safe travelling” turning to his parents he added “and thank you for bringing him here and letting him go”. Merlins parents nodded.

The three of them soon left the monastery to prepare supplies and let then find Merlin a good way to leave the city.

The fight was over and Azron's appearance returned to normal. Gone was the demon, gone was the wild man, gone was the rage. All that remained was the boy, and he wept.

Filo lay there, bleeding and whippering. The spear's shaft was somehow broken, but the head remained in the dog, and he was bleeding. Azron didn't look so great himself. His sheepskin coat was tattered and bloody. The boy tore it off as he knelt down by his dog, his only friend. Under his coat was a mail shirt, that had probably saved his life. He wiped his tears and began to tear the sheepskin into strips.

The first stone seemed to land near him without his notice. The second was larger, and landed closer. Instinctively he rolled to the side and grabbed a spear before he looked up towards Nephele. The sight of the girl allayed his fear, and he called out to her. Who are you? and what do you want?

Well she finally got his attention, and the response was not what she was expecting, was he faking it? Something that is odd about this kid is that he changes his mood so fast. Either way, it did not matter too much right now, and it seems like both of them are injured, but how would she get close without being punched in the face? Was it even safe to risk her life for him? She questioned herself a lot but there was no time for that, she already caught his attention and if she does something suspicious she will probably be chased.

She stood up and walked towards Azron and his dog, every step was cautious to not disturb the boy. Every step got her closer to the kid that somehow got those guards running away, so of course, she was getting nervous after seeing that, but either way, she got close enough to Azron to sit down in front of him and his spear. "This is close enough" she whispered to herself as she breathed in and out slowly to concentrate.

She closed her eyes, and suddenly Filo starts glowing in yellowish color, and slowly his wounds started to disappear until there was none. After being done she feels tired and with a small headache, "The dog will be fine... just let him rest" and Nephele lays down on the floor for a little bit.

Argo Kydd
"Most kids take books or toys with them to keep themselves occupied while traveling, you decide to take a big ass block of marble with you.” Nigella’s words echoed fondly in Argo’s head as the simple cart he was traveling in rolled away from the sculptor’s workshop, after they’d loaded a block of their newly acquired stone onto his hastily paid for mode of transportation. Argo peered up at her through thick black bangs, wiping the dust from his apron. “I’m going to carve a statue. If I finish it by the time I get to the capital, that means it was too damn long.”

“Are you sure you’re ready for this, Argi? You don’t have to go…”
“I think I do. I mean the moon child doesn’t have anybody to protect them like I do. Some poor kid that’s just going to be swept up in whatever crap that the gods decide to unleash on them.” His blue-violet eyes met the darkening sky and muttered: “Mother, bless me on this journey.”
“A prayer to Lady Vashti?”
“That bitch can die in a fire, I was speaking to my real mother.” His violet-blue eyes flashed with something fiery, something dangerous. His goddess mother had always been a sticking point with Argo, blaming Vashti for the death of his human mother Lavender and some of the subsequent other problems in not only his life, but the others. They'd stopped beforehand to place a crown of lavender sprigs on the statue at his mother's grave, and the sadness and tension in his young body had been as thick and palpable as tar. "If I don't do this, what will happen to that innocent kid? And not only them, the world. It's what Ma would've wanted."

The rollercoaster of emotion that Arzon had experienced in the last few minutes overwhelmed here. He was physically and emotionally exhausted. Out of nowhere, a girl had appeared to save Filo's life. Never had he heard of something like it and certainly not expected it. The boy wiped the tears from his face, and embarrassed hoped that she had not noticed. Leaning back to rest he looked at Nephele and then turned his head towards the castle and then back at the girl.

He had just fought six grown men, but here he was unsure how to talk to a thirteen year old girl. Somehow she made him more nervous by lying there than when she surprised him. Fortunately, he remembered his gratitude.

"Thank you for healing my dog, how did you do that?"

Nephele was tired, she would normally get close to the injured so it was easier for her to cure them and she had it easier with just healing small wounds, but not only did she cure a very deep wound but Filo was just about outside of her range but given the situation, she did not have a choice and did the best she could and it was worth it. But of course, the immediate consequence of trying too hard was that she was too tired to even move and the headaches were not helping her either, she calculated that her recovery will take a day or two so she could be back on her feet if only she was close to her little hut it would be a lot easier to rest without anyone disturbing her.

When she heard Arzon's question she could not respond, she felt too tired to even explain it, and did she even know how her powers work? Probably, but that is not the problem. She turned her head to both sides of the road to the castle to see if anyone was close enough to see her in this state, luckily there was no one, only her and the boy and his dog.

She could not stay there for much longer, who knows if the guards are coming back or if anyone or anything else comes and attacks her? Or even worse, so she tried to stand up with a lot of difficulties but failed, she tried 3 more times but she could not even move a single finger. She tried to crawl to the woods where her little hut is but that didn't work either, she started to feel uneasy and nervous, she just helped a stranger and who knows what he will do, he is just too powerful for her she is starting to regret even trying to be a hero.

But there was no one else that could help her, this was probably the best option she had. So with the little amount of force she had, she pointed to the woods indicating that she wanted to go in there. She then faints, hopefully she will be lucky and this boy will not do harm to her, but only will she know the next day.

Azron looked around unsure what to do. He tried shaking the girl, to see if that would rouse her. When that didn't work, he put his ear to her chest to see if she was breathing. If it wasn't already obvious from her clothes, her smell told him that she had been traveling and sleeping rough. Like him. He could see no sign of an injury or sickness.

Filo had by this time started to stand up, but was uneasy on his feet. "Stay there boy" he said "get some rest." That was what she had said right? But they couldn't wait here long. The men at arms were probably not yet at the castle, but someone could have seen them returning, and if they sent out men on horses... No, they had to get off the road and the sooner the better.

Azron quickly packed his stuff together and hoped that Nephele would wake up before he was done. Picking up a helmet that a soldier had dropped, he placed it on his head. It was a little big, but it would do. One last time he looked at Nephele. Still laying there motionless, he couldn't just leave her there. Left with no choice, he would have to carry her.

Azron scooped her up, with one arm around her shoulders and the other under her legs. With no hand to free for his staff, he left it ruefully behind. The boy, started to run, but realized that it jumbled his passenger too much and slowed down to a fast walk. Filo followed a few places behind.

The first opportunity for cover was a small group of trees, not much, but all there was. Azron left the road and took a short break setting his cargo down. He would not be able to arrive at the city today. Instead, he would have to find a place to hide out and then circle back to the road tomorrow. Before them was a field of grain, if they ran through that, they would leave behind a trail of damaged crops. However, there was a meadow nearby and he had seen that a creek ran through it. That was their best bet to throw any would be pursuers off their tracks.

Picking up Nephele, this time putting her over his shoulder, he snuck off through the wheat, over the meadow and to the creek.

Nephele opened her eyes and looking around analyzing her surroundings, for some reason she seems to be blinded by a blizzard, but she des notices she is not near the castle but in some kind of snowy place. "Where am I?" she said as she stands up, "Wasn't I near the capital?", she said as she walked through the snowy landscape and didn't know what was happening right now she could not understand why she was there and what happened while she was sleeping.

She kept on walking getting tired and tired, she felt like it was taking forever to even get to somewhere but there were no signs of life whatsoever around her. She stopped walking and sat down on the snow, not understanding any of this, was it a dream? Was she still asleep?. When she started to ask herself these questions her whole environment became darker and darker, the snow slowly fade away into nothingness leaving her in the middle of the dark.

"Why did you leave us?" said a voice, Nephele quickly reacted and turned her face around where she heard the voice was coming from, but there was no one, "Why did you leave us", said the voice again, now she saw something, it looked like the silhouette of a person, and it looked like it was in red color. She went closer to where the silhouette was but then it disappeared as well, then it reappeared on the other side and she went there but it disappeared again.

She keeps trying to reach the silhouette until she finally reaches one and the voice screams at her "Why did you leave us?!", Nephele jumps away scared and the silhouette now starts to follow her slowly, and Nephele gets up quickly and tries to run away from it. The silhouette starts to come closer, Nephele keeps running but it's of no use, it is faster than she is and it gets to her screaming even louder "You leave us to die!!" and the voice keep repeating the same phrase over and over, and louder and louder.

As Nephele was dreaming, her body in the real world started to breathe incredibly faster, her eyes were drawing tears and she is mumbling "I am sorry" a lot, her heart is beating faster and faster.

Curved leaves hid on the edges of the shadowed path, dipping in and out of his sight. All was silent and calm. No wind. No sound of his paws on the ground.
Paws? Ah. He could feel it. Four legs instead of two. Whiskers that twitched with constant input of sensory information.
He was some sort of hunter beast. Why? He couldn't shapeshift. Was his mother drawing him into something and this was his avatar?
There, up ahead, a being of light. Only a silhouette. An indistinct one at that. But-wait.
It looked at him. Wide blue eyes that held the night sky. Ringed wings that unfolded like blossoming flower petals. Luria?
No. The wings were different, this figure only had six. But it saw him, reached out. He trotted towards it, curious. The moon child?
Something hissed. He paused, hackles raising. Something stretched across the space between them, curling towards the white silhouette. A tendril the color of burned skin under siege of infection. Another one, inky black that seemed to peel from the darkness around them.
Yet more come. They begin to furl around the apparition and it lowers its hand from his direction even as he bays for the tendrils to leave. They don't and rather than show fear the figure's eyes slowly close halfway as if drifting to sleep, hands closing together seemingly in prayer as its wings curl around its body. He panics, roaring and charging forward but the being of light dissolves before he can reach it and the tendrils dissipate like smoke.
His whine reveals his fear. Has he failed? Has something already taken the moon child? Why is he here? What is this?

A distorted human roar causes him to shoot upright, drenched in cold sweat and breath heavy in his ears. He looks around. One of the shelters. The sky had gotten dark and he feared a black snow or storm.
He was paranoid out here. In the woods he could afford to wait and see because of having many dens and caves within easy distance should the weather turn dangerous. This was far more unfamiliar territory, with only the manmade shelters as possible safety. He had to be safe. Getting caught just once would mean...half-divine or not, nothing of human lineage resisted the black snow.
He pulls back a shutter to check outside the window. Still overcast but nothing else. He would keep moving then. His bow, knife, sack of food, hide of water, he was out.
It wasn't hard to find what made the noise that woke him and he approached carefully, the grass here tall enough to hide him if he kept on his belly. A troll. Giants three times the size of even large men, using brute strength to wield discarded siege weapons or stripped trees as clubs.
Even more interesting, it was surrounded by a handful of Purgist Knights. Those weren't seen very often but their crest, a rose-red dragon depicted blooming from a flower of many thin petals, was most distinct. Each already had one arm outstretched towards the monster and something happened. If he hadn't been observing so closely he might have missed it.
A flare of crystal blue radiated out from all of them and the giant seemed to simply give up. The arm that raised its weapon fell, its knees shook, and it collapsed, unable to even bear its own weight. They had completely stripped it of its greatest asset. One of the knights approached and the beast seemed willing to fight back, struggling to bring its weapon up again, but to no avail. It swiped with its empty hand but that was caught with all the effort of stopping a stumbling drunkard.
It roared even as two more knights came forth to restrain it, seizing both arms and forcing it to bow its head to the soon-to-be executioner. Why all this ceremony? Why would humans, when faced with such a beast, not simply put it down during a golden opportunity?
The one meant to kill it raised his broadsword, leveled it at the troll, and-the sword opened. Like jaws. Like the fanged maw of a monster, metallic spikes on the inside gleaming as teeth. It lunged forward and bit down on the creatures head hard enough that his enhanced hearing registered it not even as a crunch of bone but a simple squelch. The troll struggled furiously but its captor held firm.
Bare feet pounded the grass flat, fingers thick as sausages spasmed in panicked protest, then it went still. The restraining knights dropped it and drew their own weapons, the last two joining in the circle. The one who's sword had taken first bite already seemed to be feeling some sort of effect. The sigils and runes on his armor lit up in the same red as his crest, channels in the steel glowing from his sword arm to his helmet, the journey perfect as if the entire ensemble was one piece. The remaining warriors let their own weapons feast and Armir could only watch in morbid fascination until there was nothing left of the giant.
They had completely devoured it.
What were these...people? What had they become? Was this why the pantheon abandoned humanity? Or had they become this because of it?
He needed to avoid them for now. He was a divine child but being spotted without information on how hostile these troops were to magical beings or how their neutralizing capabilities might affect him seemed like a possibly terrible mistake. Fortunately they seem to have another destination in mind and walk off away from the roads but he still keeps his body low and his breathing quiet until he is sure even enhanced hearing could not detect him. Then he is up and scrambling over rough terrain quicker than ever.
The dream, these knights, it felt as if higher beings knew things he did not and were closing the walls in around him without giving him a direction to escape. Tyranach had to be close. The moon child had to be okay.

Azron had lost track of how long they had been moving, but it was getting dark, and he needed to find shelter soon. The creek had led him into a forest, and there among the pines, he exited the creek bed. Setting Nephele softly down, he looked around for the best place to make shelter. Uphill he could see large stones sticking out of the hillside. Perhaps, there is an opening or cave there. he thought. Removing his soaked boots and foot wraps. Ringing out the later he hung them over his right shoulder and picked up Nephele again.

He didn't find a cave, but he was able to build a shelter out of tent canvas and a outcropping of rock. Setting Nephele under the Tent. He made a small fire and began to cut Filo's shaggy white hair. Looking at the girl he switched between concern for her and annoyance that she was still asleep. Night came and darkness fell, Azron went under the Tent and Filo kept watch outside.

Azron woke up. The girl next to him had started moving. She was still unconscious, but wait, she was mumbling something. And she was crying. Azron was at a lost at what to do. He froze. "What's wrong?!" he demanded. Realizing she was delirious, or still dreaming he shook her to wake her up.

Nephele out of surprise she wakes up but with a blurry vision, she pushes the figure in front of her and jumps away scared with teary eyes. She immediately wipes her tears looking around, unfamiliar with her surroundings and environment, but slowly her vision was recovering until she finally could see the boy, and with a sigh of relief she sits down a little bit calm.

She was feeling alright, now she has a lot of energy to go on her quest but she does not have anything, she still had her stuff nearby the castle, or to be more specific nearby the road that leads into the capital, and inevitably reminded her that she saved this boy's dog, and now that she thinks about it he took her all the way up here. I suppose everything worked out better than expected she thinks, she felt lucky that he helped her get out of there, she felt that they were even.

"Who are you? And, where are we?" She asked without introducing herself. She did not trust this boy still, she feels that everything went too well for it to happen, maybe his act of good deed had other intentions, maybe he was plotting something, what if he wanted to kill the moon child? As she waits for Arzon to answer she stares at him, hoping the answer will satisfy her.

Azron almost fell outside bog the small tent when he was pushed back, but he quickly recovered himself. "I am, um" still a bit surprised, but also unsure of what to tell the strange girl. "I am Azron" he trusted her with his real name. "I am a traveler, a wanderer. From the valley in the east. Where we are, I am not sure. After you passed out, I carried you north of the road. We are in a forest near the city of Tryanach. I imagine we could see the city, if it weren't for the trees. We can not stay here, no doubt this forest belongs to someone and foresters will take us for poachers." Azron paused. "Who are you?"

Kaledoria wrote:The peaceful gesture and kind words stood in clear contrast to her appearance, and the group reacted understandably on edge as Julia approached.

This wasn't exactly the welcoming committee Julia had expected, but she decided that the best course of action was to reply with kindness. Not only due to chivalry, but also because the situation otherwise easily could escalate into a bloodbath. "Oh, don't worry about Mr Whiskers here..." she said as she removed her helmet. "As long as you leave our faces alone, he'll do the same to yours." Smiling, she adjusted a strand of hair that had been caught by the wind. It seemed Saoirse was the leader of the bunch, so Julia continued to address her directly.

"I'm Julia Lara, squire to the Knights of the Tower. Forgive my impoliteness... but I actually do mind. How can I be sure that you're not trying to bewitch a lone maiden here, and take advantage of her one way or the other?" She shot Gabija a quick glance, but ignored her and turned her face back towards Saoirse, and Keegan. "I'm sure you can understand why I have a reason to be sceptic as well."

Lots of thoughts came into Nephele's mind at that moment, first this boy called Azron took her North of Tryanach after causing lots of trouble near its walls, even if the reason was understandable, probably he is already being wanted by the guards and knights protecting the capital so now a quiet entrance is almost impossible if not suicidal. He said he came from the east, probably from other cities nearby the border or the ones close enough to the capital, or who knows maybe he is a foreigner and comes from the outside of the Kingdom, it was almost her case but she has settled far North for years isolated from anyone else.

Then another thing comes to her mind as how did he manage to go all the way up her carrying her, he must be pretty strong without the necessity of using his strength shown against those guards or whatever they were, which makes her think he must be really powerful and messing with people like him would not do any good, for now, she will be alright with accompanying him, who knows, maybe a little bit of protection wouldn't mind her. But there is something that keeps bugging her, why did his mood change so drastically, he became a ruthless fighter against those guards and then became a pretty much normal kid, hopefully, that does not happen again.

"I am Nephele. That's the only thing I will say", she said, she doesn't want to reveal all of the information although that may not be possible since she already revealed her unique and only power, healing. A power that her mother passed to her when she was born, a power made to always help those who are in need, she also inherited the knowledge of all the medicinal herbs or plants in existence, she has ones herself mostly used as an exchange for 'borrowing' some food from the humans.

That reminded her she left her stuff nearby the roads and needs to get them back, '"Anyway now that you say that let's go back to Tryanach, I left some stuff nearby the road and I want them back", she gets up and stretches a little bit, "After that, we can start planning on where to go"

She shot Gabija a quick glance, but ignored her and turned her face back towards Saoirse, and Keegan. "I'm sure you can understand why I have a reason to be sceptic as well."

"Hey," Gabija tried to interject, "my runes can't affect living..." She though about it before she finished the sentence. Sure, her runes could not affect living beings directly, but there were others, who had studied the runes to a much higher degree, that could indirectly cause all kinds of effects happen to anyone who saw the inscribed objects. - The runesmiths of the Duslonki Academy. Keepers of knowledge, chauvinistic pigs, that had rejected her access, because she was a woman. So she had to teach herself - so she was not in the capital, when the armies of Chernobog razed it, when they killed every single runesmith, the King, his knights and a couple of thousands of people. Killed everyone. Gabija was reminded that her homeland of Cwarensgard was destroyed, but much more then this, her people had been reduced to a small ghetto in Reimchester and a few dozens of other refugees across the rest of Ayrtica. Maybe a few hundred more in the wilderness, living like savages. But even more, her entire culture was lost, their temples, their music - and most of what had ever been written down on the topic of magic runes, as she used them...

Meanwhile, Saoirse notices that her witch had a flashback and was totally spaced out and so she decided to answer the question that was directed at her anyway: "Well, we are much more of an average travel group, don't you think? But whatever, if you don't want to see our magic you don't have to. I don't think it works, anyway. I'm Saoirse, those are Kylie, Keegan and Gabija. We are from the Order of the Dancing Star and like on a Pilgrimage. I know, traveling is crazy in these times but, you know, if we pray for the return of the Gods, we can't let our service wane in the face of these obstacles." Saoirse kind of bend the truth here, though it was kind of true, it was also kind of false because it left out the most important detail.

She looked to Keegan and Kylie. Quietly she mouthed "Knights - Tower?" and shrugged.
He had martial knowledge and even though she specialized in religious groups, places and people, Kylie was overall very smart and Saoirse wondered whether either of them had heard of this knightly order. "Yeah, Knights of the Tower, heard of them," Keegan said, "does not sound reasonable, that they would send a mere squire on a lone journey, not if they expected her to return from it." He spoke loud enough that Julia could hear it, intentionally. Meanwhile Kylie put a finger to her temple. The name did ring a bell, somewhere in the back of her head. She had heard of this Knightly Order before, too, in some unusual context but it had been long ago, like ten years or so...
