[R] Trolling -- Olympics Thread

Or that the Japanese government is run by spineless faggots that don't care about the people they're supposed to lead. The handling of the pandemic has been truly idiotic, the response inept and misdirected towards stupid bullshit like banning restaurants from serving alcohol instead of, you know, enforcing social distancing.

Even in the midst of a pandemic where lives are risked… sports matter, ads matter, brands matter, Olympic glory matters, medals matter. It really shows the priorities of the leaders.

Keeping the pandemic under control: I sleep

Brands and advertising: REAL SHIT?
That it Could be What it Is, Is What it Is

Stop making shit up, though. Links, or it's a God-damn lie and you know it.

Trolling is done with the intent to anger people. Being improper is not by itself an intention of doing so. So why is my post being judged as such?

I mean, how is it any worse than you using the word "bitch", which is definitely also a sexist slur? I would think a moderator shouldn't throw stones when living in a glass house, so just how exactly are you going to draw the line here?

As for your response in the actual thread: how the word is "actually used" varies, and has done so for a while on the Internet.

I am treating this as your appeal; the warning stands. Please keep in mind that we have players based in Japan who would likely take issue with the entire membership of said government being tarred with that particular paintbrush.

Thanks!

That is not what I said. I said it was run by a bunch of spineless f-words (the horror), which obviously means I'm talking about the leadership and not every single solitary human being in the government.

Where is the precedent or consistency here? I use a word which generally has evolved beyond its mere homophobic usage, no different from the many other slurs and profanity used on this site that also have obvious sexist and homophobic connotations etc, but have evolved beyond being just that. I could name the obvious ones, but since moderation doesn't like improper language, I guess I won't.

What even is the content of the warning besides "trolling"? Can we not use bad words about leading public figures? Or is it the word itself - in which case, why not be consistent?

Duvniask, I regret that your personal belief as regards the acceptability of the word 'faggot' in debate, particularly as regards the assertion that it 'has evolved beyond its mere homophobic usage', is clearly not shared by a significant portion of the player base.

Of course it's possible to insult political leaders; calling the Japanese leadership 'spineless idiots' wouldn't have raised an eyebrow. But context and language can matter; in this specific case, my colleagues have decided that the latter warranted a warning.

If you want to continue to contest the point, I suggest starting a separate Discussion Thread arguing for the broad acceptability of 'faggot' separate from its traditional connotations, and/or that warning people for using 'faggot' seems inconsistent when 'bitch' seems acceptable in at least some circumstances. You're free to make that case, but it would be better to make it via a Discussion Thread, particularly if you want to open that discussion up to third parties.

I'd recommend against putting 'faggot' in the thread title, though.
