I watched Vanderbilt and Athena, not surprised about his hobby of sketching -it was remarkably similar to how my friend Karim, Prince Karim ibn-Fadi (a.k.a. Karim Risha), loved to spent his time. Granted, he was less of a painter and more of a poet, but he was skilled at what he did.
And while most of his work was focussed on praising one woman, a particularly admirable one, I might add, in his recent work, he had shifted a bit...
Regardless, at Agustinas' question, Okan smiled a small, almost boyish, lopsided smile, which did not seem to fit him as well.
Especially considering his reply.
"Please allow me to ask the second question first, Lady Agustinas.", he requested, then continued: "I was not up with Aurelia, because of my condition. You might know, that I suffer from the Alström Syndrome, which causes a whole lot of problems, among them light sensitivity. That, and I also don't have the diplomatic training the young Softpaw here has... let alone her expertise and mastery."
I smiled and bowed my head at the compliments, smiling under my mask. Compliments from Prince Okan were always something nice. And being called a Softpaw, one of the large felines, was a compliment as well.
"As for why I am here...", Okan added, then smiled in an honest, earnest way: "If Princess Aurelia is a Softpaw, I am a Desert Mouse. A curious little critter, these Desert Mouses. And not only that, they themselves are curious - so much so, that they became the go-to symbol for curiosity."

Considering everything, His Highness's smile didn't certainly fit his reply, at least the first half at least.
Of course Her Majesty felt stupid of having forgotten that because of the Prince's condition he couldn't be out in the light because of it and if he did, he certainly was like a vampire or something of the style with an umbrella; or so she thinks? But at least the issue regarding that was answered and so was the reason as he did add he didn't had the training Princess Aurelia had regarding diplomacy.
Of course she then heard the other part and this time, with an honest smile.

She thought about what she heard and was interested of it, cracking an smile beneath her mask.

"Really, then I believe your curiosity has certainly made the mouse able to fend off the cat." Callista chucked as she said that, the old say coming into mind when thinking about it. "And such a curious mouse would be interested in the exotic and foreign animals that came into it's territory I must think??" She had a curious glimpse on her eyes that spoke of her question, she was like a cat and like the say ended, she died of curiosity, but returned to life satisfied of the answer and as such; she would for the first time of her travel use one of her lives; after all, who's to say a cat had nine lives only?

Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.
I knew, that it was fine by Okan if people first saw him as anything else but the Sick Prince of Megido, a title he bore with the same stoicism as the reason for it.
He chuckled lightly at the mouse fending off the cat, then replied: "Indeed, although I would not dare calling Utica my territory, I am curious in you and in your travelling companions, as well as the lands you hail from."
He let a beat pass.
As he did that, the train left the tunnel and shot out into the sunlight. The windows dimmed the light, but he still looked visibly uncomfortable for but a moment. I took his hand and squeezed it softly, he gave me a smile. Outside, there was nothing much to see, only a residential area we were rushing through, as well as a closed off station.
"Though...", Okan continued, turning back to Callista and her travelling companions, "...if you were to for an animal for a metaphor, would you really call yourself a cat, Your Majesty?"
My eyes wondered to the top of her head - I had to suppress a giggle as I imagined a pair of cat ears on Callista's head. She would look cute, though, one had to give her that.

Well at least that answered everything, curiosity has always been one to drive people and she wasn't the exception to that; after all they both had uniqueness that made them interested in the other. To which she smiled warmly after letting a light giggle. However in that moment they left the tunnel and sunlight fell through, the windows dimmed the light entering; but that did not stopped the Prince from feeling a bit uncomfortable.
Princess Aurelia squeezed his hand as that happened and they passed through the residential area or suburbs; the Treasurer deep on his drawing as the head of the Freezis Group watched through the window the area, now in thought after leaving Vanderbilt to his own business; meanwhile the Dilevas were just resting, the Chancellor's head resting on her husband's shoulders as the head of the Dileva Group caressed her hair. The Queen meanwhile, she decided to take off her facemask and showed a cute cat like smile to answer his questions before she did laughed a bit as well.

"I think that should answer your question, Your Highness. After all; cats are majestic and cute animals, loyal, passionate, agile and smart, but there are those that might be something deep inside.-" She let a beat pass as the blonde haired woman decided how to answer that, before responding since she didn't wished to meant it wrong. "I might as well be a cute kitten with the soul of a lioness, which if threatened and those who love..." Her face then became one of a cheshire smile, mischievous and threatening like the glimpse on her eyes, except there was an no intention to harm; like she could attack the ones making her harm if she had to.

"They are mischievous, dangerous when threatened, cunning and fierce. I'am certainly be loyal to those who I love and care, and to my nation and allies; but when double-crossed... I would certainly not hesitate to answer back and show off the lioness that lies inside the pretty and cute kitten..." She then switched to an apologetic smile to both the Prince and Princess before putting back her mask.

"My apologies for that, but I wanted to show an honest answer to your question. And I think that could be the best way to put..." She then let an nervious laugh as she blushed slightly embarassed like if she felt she overdid it.

Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.
Okan smiled and nodded at the explanation.
"Indeed, felines are graceful and loyal, but also quite fierce.", he confirmed, quite satisfied (and a slight bit bemused by how his question was answered). He then continued: "As you may know, my younger sister Fara owns a Kyrenaian Caracal by the name of Kalak, a massive and gigantic beast of a cat, but steadfast and loyal and, should the day come, that I become an uncle, I am sure, that he will be a staunch protector of my nephews and nieces." He thought for a moment. "If I remember correctly, she and my other sister Fadia are invited to the state ball tomorrow evening. If Kalak stays in Megido or not, however, I do not know."
"Gods, you must be well-acquainted with a lot of cats...", I said with a smile.
"Not only cats.", Okan replied, "Aside from the graceful young lioness in front of me, I know a certain Sand Wolf, my sisters are a Cracal and a Falcon respectively, Okka is..." He thought for a moment. "...a Jalidi Snow-Wyvern, sometimes, but a White Caracal at other times."
I laughed at his confused expression, as he was thinking to himself.
Turning to Callista, I told her: "He's out for the count for a moment, so let me tell you: No need to apologize. To be honest, I liked your way of answering that one... might 'be inspired' by it."
The last was accompanied by a wink, which meant, that by 'being inspired' I meant 'copying'.

Callista IV of Mervay
She heard of the Caracal Princess Fara owned, those things were indeed massive. She was wondering if the same would happen to the Crown Princess's Black Fox from the Free Lands, Dilly was surely something special.
Then he added about the Princess and her younger sister being present on tomorrow's ball, which made her glad she at least had an neutral date for that event, albeit she did wished to meet the guy Aurelia proposed; their history was, quite interesting. Of course just after that the Prince and Princess were discussing which animal the people they knew would be like, all the while she just smiled during the whole conversation, she did found it pretty funny.

Of course, when Aurelia then turned back to her, Callista couldn't help but smile as she heard the Princess being 'inspired' by her style, so much so that she winked at her; of course, she chuckled at that before looking at their host for the moment with a hint of mischief.

"Then I've must say one has to patent it if you are so 'inspired' by it, Your Highness." She smiled beneath before laughing at that for a second. "Just kidding; well to see one being 'inspired' to use that way is a great achievement, so feel free to use it." The Queen grinned, already enjoying her visit, and she hasn't yet entered into the city proper. What a way to begin.

Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.
I laughed with Callista - yes, this was a good way to begin.
I could imagine Callista becoming a personal friend, maybe even a close personal friend, and Mervay certainly was on the short list for prospective friends of the Sultanate, so... it was a good start.
Damir, who had been silently standing by one of the railing posts in his heavy armour, suddenly spoke up, startling me slightly: "Inspiring someone to greatness is an achievement one can be proud of, especially if it leads to further greatness. I can very well imagine Elder Aoste being amused, if you ever visit her within Forfar's city limits."
Ah... Damir had joined them or was at least sympathetic to those, who liked to call me a Selkie-Runt.
I still smiled and nodded. "Yes, she might be.", I said and turned to Callista: "Elder Lynn Aoste of the Tribe of Louth is the Elder of my Tribe... or was... actually, I am not sure, if I count still as a member of the Tribe of Louth..." I shrugged. "Something to ask her next time. In any case, I regularly visit the Free Lands on diplomatic business, so I am in touch with her and her colleagues. I think, you met the Elders at the SEA-Treaty Signing Ceremony in Elder Castle."
I spotted something through one of the windows.
"Speaking of castles...", I said and pointer over Vanderbilt's shoulder.
In the distance, there was a veritable sea of low houses of clay and brick, ringed partially by modern towers of glass and steel, some of which were coming closer and larger. In more or less the center, however, a huge rock rose out of the ground and on it, shining and like a mirage, stood a palace. "...once we pass the first office towers, we have passed where once the old city walls have been and are thus in Utica-City. And up there, on this rock, is our destination - the Palace of the Azure Hall."

She did had to say, that she was enjoying her time with Aurelia, perhaps something interesting could come of this, an nice friendship will surely come out of this visit. Then their escort spoke for the first time since they got on the train, mostly regarding one of the Elders from the Free Lands, Elder Aoste of Louth; She remembered meeting her in the SEA Ceremony last year. Perhaps she should pay a visit around one day now that she thinks of it; speaking of that, Aurelia explained what Captain Damir meant and it was all related to the fact she's half-selkie and is, -or was?- from the Tribe of Louth; it wasn't so much of an state secret to be honest but it was surprising she did made regular visits to the nation.
Of course, she couldn't give her answer to that when they were finally about to reach the city proper after being in what appeared to be, it's metropolitan area. The Princess points at a massive rock that stood out in the middle of the whole skyline, a massive palace which stood tall upon it... The Palace of the Azure Hall.

Everyone stopped what they were doing as soon as she pointed their destination, looking at where it was located while Mr. Dileva was waking up his wife, gently shaking her so she opened her eyes. Meanwhile The Treasurer put his journal back to his pocket alongside his pencil to look at their destination. It was an sight to behold if one asked.

Then Callista heard the head of the Dileva Group ask something regarding their trip.

"How far off are we of the central station if I may ask?"

Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.
They all rose to look at the Palace from the train, the golden roof glistering in the sun. It was a typical tourist reaction, which made me smile fondly - I had done the same, when I had come to Utica for the first time.
I remembered the day in the Azure Hall itself, when I had been introduced at Court, wearing my school uniform. A nervous little girl swept away by her father to a country, which's language she had a grasp of, but no real skill (yet, thanks to Okan), stood in front of the Sultana, refused to kneel as it was proper, for she was too much of a Selkie-lass.
My right knee's poplit hurt for but a moment, a bout of phantom pain shooting through it.
Then Edward Dileva asked: "How far off are we of the central station if I may ask?"
"You may ask, but I am afraid, that I'll have to hand this question down.", I replied with a grin, which didn't quite reach my eyes. I turned to... "...Okan?"
"Hm?", he made, "Oh, right, final destination, let's see..." He looked out of the window, smiled. "About ten minutes, give or take."
Damir, to the side, nodded to himself.
I smiled, this time the smile getting closer to my eyes: "There we go - though, I have to ask, if there would be the option, which we can't actually do because of insurances..." I shrugged a bit helplessly. The law was the law after all and no insurance in their right mind would cover a bunch of untrained horsemen in a new environment on new horses. Unless Callista had Selkie-Ancestors, that could only go terribly, terribly wrong. "...would you ride yourselves or take the carriage as we have it planned?"

Callista IV of Mervay
Perception was a key one who had should be grateful for, an ability that was part of the human nature and like everyone in the train from the Mervayan side, they could notice that the question did had quite an effect on the Princess; her grin didn't reached her eyes, the polite but certainly annoyed way. And she had to say the head of the Dileva Group was certainly interested in something.
At least he sighed and looked at the two Princes before nodding.
But the question did made her laugh, that would certainly be an image for the press and it appears she wasn't the only one laughing by how Marquise Freezis reacted; the violet eyed woman recovered from that before having an grin as she answered that question.

"I would certainly join just to see the sight of Her Majesty on the back of either the young captain or your's horses like those fairy tales Princesses." She smiled amused at the comment from Lady Athena before looking back at Aurelia with an amused glare as well.

"It certainly depends, do we want to make an shock to the press and risk a few lawsuits, or, we stick to the plan? I mean I'm a horse rider myself as well, but it surely would be the same like asking you the same if you ever visit us." She kept her smile beneath the mask before glaring at the Dileva's. "Plus, I'm surprised the ever patient man decided to break character? Is there anything more important you and your wife must do when you get there?" She asked; curious, serious and perhaps annoyed. A sigh was met by the man before answering.

"We do, we have to call a couple that are friends of us in somewhere private." Mr. Dileva did certainly showed no emotion on answering that question before letting a deep sigh. "They just returned from a travel to abroad with COVID and it appears they are in the hospital since it appeared that at least one of them had a grave case of it..." He looked away for a second before sighing again, his wife spoke now.

"We just found out when we were en route to the airport and since we wouldn't see them because of the isolation policy and the fact we had work, we promised to call them the moment we were in Kyrenaia to ask for an update." It was enough for everyone from the delegation to give a silent nod and well wishes to the couple. The Queen looked a bit ashamed and looked at the couple.

"Sorry to hear that, I hope they get better soon and I give my well wishes to them." She was relieved when she was met with understanding and grateful smiles from the couple. Travel out of Mervay was heavily restricted and there strict controls for travelers in and out; thankfully the nation was recovering from the virus as the number of deceased and infected was kept on an minimum, yet; cases like those happened no matter how strict the policies against the virus might be, they were uncommon, but possible. She hoped the vaccines were done for january because that would certainly make this end quickly since no one wanted an second wave nor an peak in winter now that it's getting closer.

Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.
Athena's comment made us all chuckle, Damir bowing his head. It would be his pleasure and to be honest, it would be mine as well.
Callista's reply made me smile.
Dilevas, though, hit home that not only Kyrenaia was affected by the Pandemic and that it sometimes hit so close to home.
I nodded. "Please, best wishes from us as well.", I said and bowed my head lightly. Damir and Okan nodded.
Callista's reply stuck in my head for a bit, though - she rode herself. For an horsearcher like me, that was excellent news, even if as of late my vehicles had a few more horsepowers then the four of a horse.
The minutes passed, until a ring announced a proclamation by the train's conductor, first in Kyrenaian, then in English: "Dear passengers, we are nearing our final destination, Utica Central Railway Station. Please make sure, that you have all of your personal belongings on you and that you left your seat in good order. We thank you for choosing the trains of Utica Public Transport. Exits are to the right in the direction of travel. Next stop, Utica Central."
I smiled and rose. "Well, everyone, you heard the gentleman!"

Callista IV of Mervay
It was then she could see the chancellor mutter an small thank you at them before returning to the window, all the while her husband was deep in thought.
The two groups had a pharmaceutical company of their orbit either through direct or inderectly means developing a vaccine against the virus each, with many othes following suit beyond the Dileva and Freezis companies, and she knew how much they would try to give a little push to make sure that the Sultanate ordered their vaccines, but then again and after conversations, Treasury would make sure to try that during negotiations the other giants and the rest of the Mervayan Economical landscape had their fair share the moment trade is eased.
But better leave that for later and focus on current issues, or rather, her own thoughts.
Riding horses with the Princess ehh? Well that idea sounded as tempting as you think, perhaps later on might be possible. Of course those thoughts were cut by the speakers, she let an small sigh of relief; finally.

Everyone around her got whatever belongings they had in the open back to their pockets or briefcases, The Queen noticed Lady Freezis getting up and streching herself before looking at the local royalty.

"So, I assume that by obvious reasons we might witnesses of an more... Austere welcoming party shall we say?"

Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.
"No, this one will be a bit more of a show.", Damir said with no small hint of pride, "I'm afraid however, that I must excuse myself upon our arrival, Your Majesty, Your Highnesses, Your Excellencies. I am needed elsewhere."
He bowed his head lightly as the train slowed down.
"I am afraid, that I must bid you farewell for the time being as well.", Okan said, remaining seated, "We will meet again in due time, but for now, I must bid you all adieu."
"Bye, Okan.", I said and leaned over, pecking him on the cheek. He smiled and had a hint of a blush on his cheeks. "Was a nice trip."
"Indeed it was.", he said and the train stopped.
Damir motioned for the Queen of Mervay to first exit, he would make up the rear of the small group, he explained, and would then vanish until we would meet him again in a few minutes.
Speaking of, I let the Mervayans leave first and go onto the platform.
Utica Central had a subway station very much like the one at the Airport, but the big differences came once you came up through the escalators: The Great Hall of Utica Central was a marvel of traditional architecture, mixed with the needs of a railway station.
The platforms of the through station were still underground, but above the subway station. Huge pillars of sandstone supported high, vaulting ceilings, stretching high into the air. Large balconies, connected by bridges of glass and steel, hung above the platforms on ground level, enveloping the pillars.
Normally, there would be thousands upon thousands of people on the platforms and above, vendors selling their wares to tourists, but right now, all of that was gone - COVID and a guest of state.
Nobody but us could admire the complex mosaics decorating the ceiling, the small colourful stones arranged in complex patterns and forms, some abstract, some clear, some both, some neither. Some said, that the images showed animals and humans, yet others saw mathematics and geometry, others saw irregular shapes, it was a Hall one could fill volumes about.
On ground level, there was also the entrance, adorned by a small group of tables, a handfull of Handmaidens, water caraffes, glasses and a sign, that led to the toilets.
"If you want to drink something or need a moment to refresh, now's the last chance. It will take a while until we have the time for another potty break.", I said in no uncertain terms.

Callista IV of Mervay
It was certainly odd to see that the Prince won't be staying for what remained of the trip, then again, Callista could theorize that it might do with the fact they might go into the open with possibly an open carriage or other type of vehicle. In that case, he didn't blame him.
As for the Captain, well she knew which responsabilities were since he was the captain of their escort, so, that one was understandable.
She had to say tho, the sight of the Prince of Megido blushing made her giggle slightly before the train finally stopped... And well...
Off they went.
She was by request, the first to leave the train; Treasurer Vanderbilt and Chancellor Dileva closely behind them with Mr. Dileva and Lady Athena being the last ones of the group to leave to the platforms and up the escalators to see the architectonical marvel that was the central station. It was certainly an architectonic marvel that felt so distinctive, colourful and wonderful; certainly a theme with all central stations, but each had their own style.

Of course, it felt, odd, to be the only people in this building when it was always so busy, the atmosphere is completely different when alone in an massive and transited station. The moment they were told to take advantage of this break since it will be the last one in a while, The Chancellor and her husband left to make their call while the Treasurer went to the other end to also make a call of his own, leaving Lady Athena and her with the princess. That was until...

"If you excuse me, I'll must go the bathroom for the moment, I'll return shortly..." And so, Her Majesty left to the bathroom as she followed the sign and left Aurelia only with the CEO of the Freezis Group.

"Guess it's just you and me huh?" Was all she could hear as she kept walking.

The others had excused themselves for potty breaks, phone calls (dang, forgot about that one...) and other things, leaving me with Athena and those words by the head of the Freezis Group.
I poured us a glass of water each, or rather a mug, not the elegant flutes from the airport, but the rough stoneware an employee would use to pour himself a mug of tea.
Handing her one, I replied.
"Looks that way, yes.", I said and took a sip, "Though, I wanted to ask you something. For a month now, I am the Beyeha of Malakiard, that is a small... well, you might call it a county, anyways, a small piece of land near Larsa. I understand, that you have little experience with governing, but you do have experience with economy. My question now is - how do I attract investors and founders, in particular of information technology firms?"

Athena Freezis
She grabbed gladly the mug with a nod before taking down her mask to take a sip, hearing the Princess speak.
Athena heard Aurelia's request with interest, it was true she didn't had experience in governing as the noble titles were purely ceremonial now back at home, the civilian government the one doing that. But she did know her field with economics and management, and she knew what she wanted.
The head of the Freezis Group looked at the woman with an interesting glare, the one she always had when it came to business, already knowing were to begin.

"Let me ask you a question. Where do you think are the important technological centers, the innovation cities, the tech clusters of The Sultanate?" She asked, her left hand still on her mug as she made sure to have the Princess know where this conversation would go. "And if so, what made them attractive for the big companies and the start-ups to settle there?"

After all, better see things from a local perspective before giving some foreign imput.

Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.
I did not need to think for long about the first question, quite on the contrary.
"The large technology centres are around Lake Tahul, in particular in Suza and Mari, as well as in Megido.", I listed, "There is also a large information technology cluster in Callista, don't laugh, that's an actually reasonably large city in the Khanate of Ibossim, and in Mahlata."
I let a few beats pass.
"What made them attractive, though...? Sure, location factors, but which?"
I thought for a bit. Something in the back of my head asked itself, if that was, what some girls felt, when their affections were not reciprocated in kind. What does she have what I don't have?
"Well, certain infrastructure factors can be excluded, I mean, an IT-firm has little use for a freighter terminal.", I said, "But good telecommunications connections, energy prices and power infrastructure are important. Likewise, state factors like taxes, minimum wages and subjentions are crucial. Then, I also need to look at soft factors to allow companies to argue with their prospective employees about a good environment to settle and to settle down..." I looked at Athena. "Am I on the right track?"

If she knew the Queen well, was that she wouldn't live down that part and comment on how small the world could sometimes be; but all in all. The Princess knew well the locations by obvious reasons, now she needed to figure their attractiveness.
Which Athena found she knew well to begin with, giving the Princess an nod with an smile before setting her glass down.

"You might need to see current developments to also have an perspective of the situation as well." She begun her explanation, her finger pointing to her face mask and then Aurelia's one. "Location of the worker could become irrelevant in the future as work from home will here to stay as part of the possible hybrid work system it will appear." She had arguments from both sides of the spectrum in that regard alongside her opinion.

Her eyes then suddenly turned sharp, as to advice the Princess on something else.

"You must know that Your Highness, that for your plan to work, you must also incentivize the education as well, as even if in an globalized world where someone from Lutetii can work from his home for an firm in Ridderli or Mervay, the entrepenour will always be local or settle in the country where it was created." It was clear that even if young, Athena certainly was well prepared to her position. "Your efforts must not only focus on the massive corporations, but also in the middle, small and starting businesses as well, as they, in the long term will become your source of taxable income. For your plan to work, you must give that and other reasons as to make your territory the next tech city that can rival the international cities, such as Directus, Silvat, Arcadia and others for example." Her violet eyes then considered another option, other type of industries were also on the rise that the Princess could take advantage of.

"You should also consider looking into other prospects for your project, there's other industries in the same technological realm that could also be looked into. Surely you can think of some that could be your region's strongest point if incentivized?"

Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.
I thought, that I had performed well, and Athena seemed to be inclined to agree, to some extend... until she mentioned a few things I should keep an eye upon.
Location, might soon irrelevant thanks to home office.
Education, for a company will always settle where it came from.
Middle and small companies and their importance.
Broader range of possible industries to settle.
There was a lot to think about... and it made me aware of how much I had to learn. It was another challenge to conquer.
I smiled and nodded.
"Thank you, Miss Freezis. You gave me a lot to think about.", I said and thought for a moment: "Malakiard, much like the entire Larsa-Area, has always been famous for its closeness to Lake Tahul, for the Saghara as it comes down from the Alatlal Mountains, for the fertile land at either's shore and for the cheese produced a bit further from the shores... goat and sheep, if you were wondering. It has one of the highest rates of electrically powered vehicles in the entire Sultanate and thanks to several hydroelectric power plants along the Saghara, power is cheap. There is even a company producing electrical utility vehicles near Nuri." I thought for a bit. "I will have to think quite a lot, maybe consult with other people as well."
I pulled out a business card, looked it over for a moment, made sure, that the address on it was the one for the official mail.
"Would you mind, if we were to stay in touch?", I requested.

"Always to aid in whatever you need Your Highness." I smiled at the princess warmly. I think I can give myself the opportunity to break the fourth wall as, look at that, the author is finally using first person! I would say about time, but... Better return to the current matters.
I grabbed the card with an smile as I pulled the information to my phone, I had the info of Miss Halib long in contacts alongside it. And of course I had a selfie of myself and Leo from our time in Ironcastle as wallpaper...

"You may forgive me for not having a card with myself, but they are in middle of my baggage so I'll make sure to send you a message when we are in the palace or during the night." I smiled sheepishly at that point, I will have to make a lot of calls tonight. "But returning to the point, If there's an potential in the region, you might see a company controlled by the Freezis Group settling there." I smiled politely while from the corner of my eye, Her Majesty was finally returning.

"Did I missed anything young ladies?" She asked smiling calmly, to which I denied by moving my head.

"Not at all, Your Majesty. We were just discussing some business advice for the Princess." I replied honestly as the Queen nodded, seeing I was telling the truth.

"I see. I take it has to do with your current responsibilities don't they Lady Aurelia?"

I smiled and nodded at the Queen: "Indeed, Your Majesty.", I said and bowed my head lightly, "After all, Malakiard is a beautiful place, but it is my duty to improve it, where I think it needs improving." I shrugged. "Industry and commerce being one of these fields and Miss Freezis gave me important advice."
If she would ever approach me for a possible investment of the Freezis Group in Malakiard, I would certainly check it with a positive basic attitude, but I could not promise more.
"Young Princes and Princesses usually receive a Beydom as part of their training and upbringing, so that they learn the ropes of government.", I explained, "On the job training, if you will. I might have gathered some experience as my Father's plus one, but that is not enough by far."
We were waiting for the Dilevas... and the carriage.

I smiled and nodded at the Queen: "Indeed, Your Majesty.", I said and bowed my head lightly, "After all, Malakiard is a beautiful place, but it is my duty to improve it, where I think it needs improving." I shrugged. "Industry and commerce being one of these fields and Miss Freezis gave me important advice." If she would ever approach me for a possible investment of the Freezis Group in Malakiard, I would certainly check it with a positive basic attitude, but I could not promise more. "Young Princes and Princesses usually receive a Beydom as part of their training and upbringing, so that they learn the ropes of government.", I explained, "On the job training, if you will. I might have gathered some experience as my Father's plus one, but that is not enough by far." We were waiting for the Dilevas... and the carriage.

"Certainly expected considering the titles here are also administrative when it comes to nobility." I heard Lady Athena say, smiling as she heard that. It was no secret that titles at Mervay were completely ceremonial when it came to nobility, in fact the last time a noble did took control as administrator of it's district was when in 1966 the Count of Sudentor served as mayor for the city after winning the elections, from what the records say of the time; he was an man dedicated to the city and one of the architects of the modern sudentor.
But that was another story.
I just smiled at Aurelia's comment, certainly an interesting way to do so, a thought that I commented with an smile.

"Certainly a way to gain experience in taking the ropes that's for sure." In my case there were another ways to do so, but that wasn't here and there; plus I'm sure I wouldn't have enough time to explain when we were waiting for our carriage.

I noticed the Treasurer return from wherever he was from a long talk with the Opposition Leader and a few minutes later the Dileva's joined us, their expressions showing concern in regards to their friends.

"They have isolated our friend in the ICU wing." The chancellor was the one to speak, a heavy gaze on her eyes as she was still taking the information. "Her husband only told us what the medics did and it wasn't much, only that she has a grave case of it and they're working on it."

My eyes lowered as the smile also dropped off my face; this pest has become our biggest headche and no matter if the amount of people that died was small for a nation of our size, around 10.000 currently. Still the virus killed people left and right, many that we once thought would survive did not and the vaccine was still months away from mass production and mandatory third phase from even being presented, even if the deaths and infections decreased, the pressure was always there.
Luci did told me when returning from another of his felloship rounds of the situation at the hospitals being always complicated no matter all the resources we mobilized for the entire country and abroad, I witnessed that as well during some visits, if only to lift the morale among the staff and the people.

"I hope that your friends will be alright in intensive care, and that they recover soon." The treasurer commented, a heavy nod as he did so; my hands stretched to the married couple and for a few seconds I stood there before nodding, wishing the best and that we might have less casualties today.

Hopefully the carriage will be here soon.

Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.
The Queen complimented our way of doing things, our on-the-job-training programme - no need to mention, that often enough, the Beys and Beyehas were thrown into the cold water - but before I could reply, the Treasurer and the Dilevas rejoined us.
The Chancellor reported, that their friend had gone to the ICU.
Shite.
The Treasurer expressed his well wishes and I nodded as well.
"Please relay my best wishes for a recovery as well.", I expressed with a small bow.
It might not be my place to intrude onto that, but Kyrenaia was hit hard by COVID as well - so hard, that there had been doubts about how to do this State Visit. I knew, how it felt to loose friends to that blasted virus and it was not pretty.
The carriages...
A moment after I had begun that thought, I heard armoured boots come towards us - Damir, his helmet under his arm, his expression hard, professional. He stopped three steps away from me, bowed his head and reported: "The carriages and the escort are ready."
I returned the bow in kind. "Thank you.", I replied, then turned to the Mervayans. "Alright, everyone, let's finish the waters quickly and off we go."
Once that was done, I would lead them all outside, where, their armour resplendent and polished to a shine, the Horseman Teams of HGA and TBA waited, a total of a hundred horsemen and horsewomen, in traditional lamellar armour, in lighter cloth or a few in leather armour, from the young thirteen year olds, who just joined to this years graduation year.
There were people with the long Tabar, the horseman's axe, mounted archers and, the pride and adornment of the HGA, half a dozen mounted falconers with their dog leaders, the majestic birds on special perches on the backs of the saddles, the Jackals and Sand Wolves and... there was a Larger Kyrenaian Caracal.
Okay.
In any case, there were also three carriages, stately vehicles, open topped with a sun cover, their benches soft, as I knew from experience - but today, I would not ride with them. As Damir and two other young men of the TBA offered especially the ladies a hand to get aboard, I smiled as I approached a familiar face, held at the reins by a HGA Horsearcher.
I smiled at Nesrin Arbemia, then at a familiar chestnut Capall Cogaidh, a Selkie Horse amidst the many, many Kyrenaian Winddrinkers.
Granted, the Capall Cogaidh was a descendant of the Horses of the Kyrenaian Light Cavalry, but he was a Selkie through and through. His name was Fánaí and he loved seeing me, almost tearing himself free.
I petted his nostrils, kissed him between the eyes and mumbled a few words in Selkie to him.
Then, still dressed in Firstan Alshams, I swung myself into the saddle, took the reins from Nesrin and got used to riding again - Gods, it had been too long.
I smiled at the Mervayans as I pulled up next to Callista's carriage.
"Ready?"

"Ready?"

Callista IV of Mervay
"They will be given." I could hear in their voices and how down they seemed that moment that they almost looked like they were worried their friend wouldn't make it, clearly they had hope, but; it might run out.
Then the carriages finally came.
Captain Afata appeared to report about it with an stoic and professional expression. Soon we followed outside, where we would see a display of what could possibly be an cavalry squadron with armour entirely resplendent and polished to shine; from young students of Middle School to those that would graduate this year; the pride of the renowed academies of Utica for sure. Weapons that displayed the variety of the unit and their respective animals, which some went from interesting and intriguing, others could be... Odd. And that giant caracal was the clearest example of all.
The carriages were surely quite the piece, open topped and with sun cover; three for all of us. I saw the chancellor and Mr. Dileva getting into one of carriages while the Treasurer and Ms. Freezis went in the other, the one at the front, well... That was mine. And with the help of Captain Afata, which I smiled as he helped me enter, I took it.
Soon after sitting on what were by far, the most comfortable seats, Aurelia pulled next to me in a horse, still dressed in the Firstan Alshams; I could only laugh at the sight as it was straight out of a eastern tale.

"Were it not for formalities, I would had joined you." I grinned freely. "But yup! All set!!"

Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.
"And if it weren't for formalities...", I replied, "...I'd have a horse prepared for you."
Or have you ride behind me., I added in thoughts and then turned to Damir, nodding.
The Captain of the Horseman Team put on his helmet and swung himself onto the back of his own horse, a massive stallion - where my own Fánaí was a relatively small, swift horse, his was almost a titan, befitting a man, who rode out with an axe the length of a grown man and used it to split targets for fun.
But as fearsome as he looked, the Captain of the TBA Horseman Team sounded fearsome, too.
He sucked in air and bellowed out commands in Kyrenaian, commands, which I knew well enough myself - four horns sounded out, the deep, vibrating sound running deep into the bone marrow, shaking the skeleton deeply.
At the front, two flags were unrolled, the flag of the Sultanate and the flag of the Kingdom of Mervay, signalling, who was coming.
And with that, the whole caravan began to move.
I smiled at Callista, right next to her carriage.
"Sorry about the volume.", I said, then motioned to the railway station behind us and made a sweeping gesture to encompass the station's forecourt, bordered by brick and mortar buildings with huge arcades and an official, rich, stately feeling to them. "But yeah... welcome to Utica's Old Town. We are at the New Caravansary, now moving onto the Main Street and... there we go!"
Due to COVID, assemblies on the streets to greet the Queen of Mervay had been forbidden, too large was the risk of spreading the desease, but as soon as we moved onto the Main Street, the windows on all sides were lined and almost crowded with spectators, cheering and waving and flourishing little Mervayan and Kyrenaian flags.
It was almost deafening.

Callista IV of Mervay
"Shame then." I said sighing before smiling. "I guess that will be for another day." Either riding with the Princess or my own horse were out of the question for another time, then again, I would need to be dressed in something else for that.
Soon enough I looked at the Captain of the Horseman Team giving commands with the voice of an captain leading his soldiers into battle with that voice of his that was followed by four horns sounding out that made me shiver even further after the commands given by Captain Afata.
That was followed by the flags of both nations being unrolled.
The Convoy then moved after that, and all I could think was that this was quite the welcome and I didn't know it would get even better after this!

I looked at Aurelia who talked with me in regards to the noise as she motioned to the station's forecourt and the buildings surrounding it, all with that rich, official, stately feeling alongside that beauty shown. I smiled happily at her with an excited tingle in my eyes.

"Don't worry about it, if you saw how we make events back at Mervay you might say I'm used to it." I spoke for experience due to the fact that for my inaugaration and other events such as the fleet's rewiew or festivals like the Port De Devienne one we had the costume of doing gun salutes, I was sure they would do it sooner or later, but as long as it wasn't like the 100 Gun Salute for my coronation then I would be good, and no I'm not kidding. "Besides, one loves to have a warm welcome aren't we?" As soon as I said that and looked into the Main Street of the Old Town, a place that was breath taking due it's beauty if being honest; the next thing would surprise me and make completely speechless.

We were greeted by the cheers of the people as we passed by, little flags of our nations in their hands as they welcomed us from their windows due to the virus. I was shocked by such welcome and it was heartwarming, that feeling of welcome made me smile radiantly like the sun as I saluted them all with decorum and grace.

If I was to bet the reactions of the Chancellor, Her Husband and so of Lady Athena and Treasurer Vanderbilt. I was to make a guess they also smiled politely, perhaps Athena letting out a bit of that mischievous self with an excited expression on her face; I know her well enough that she's able of that and that she knows I'm able as well to salute more excitedly were it not for protocol.

"If I'm honest. I think I'll take this as the highlight of the welcome so far!! No offense to the carriages nor the escort!!" I yelled that to Aurelia so she could hear it in middle of the noise.
