THE REPUBLIC OF KENCANA
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM

BASIC INFORMATION
Nation: The Republic of Kencana
Demonym: Kencanan
Style Modifier: -5
Formation: 4-2-1-3 DM Wide

Kencana is an island kingdom located in South Melayu Archipelago. It is inhabited by the nomadic and seafaring Bajo ethnic group who lived off the sea by trading and fishing. While some Bajos have settled on land living in stilt houses close to the shore, most still practice the life of sea nomads and lives their whole life on handmade houseboats.

Head Coach: Ali Azam
Ali Azam is a physical education teacher at Kota Damai High School and the head coach of Kota Damai FC. He started his career by leading Kota Damai High School to the gold medal in football in the Kencana School Council Games which is organized annually by the Education Ministry. Kota Damai High School won the gold medal without conceding a single goal in the competition.

Ali Azam's reputation rose after that and was subsequently hired as the head coach of Kota Damai FC. He then again led Kota Damai FC to win the inaugural Liga Kencana in his debut season by winning every match. His performance with Kota Damai High School and Kota Damai FC led the Kencana Football Association to pick him as the first national team manager.

GOALKEEPER
GK: Deraman Chik, 31, Kota Damai (Fisherman)
Agile and good with his feet but will give Kencana fans heart attack with his eccentricity.

Bench:
GK, Jasir Suhail, 29, Kuala Aman (Construction Worker)
GK, Hamad Nizam, 28, Teluk Kapal (Dock Worker)

DEFENDERS
DR: Jusoh Yakub, 31, Kota Damai (Fisherman)
Quick, fit, high stamina but could not cross to save his life.

DL: Lukman Demang, 31, Kota Damai (Fisherman)
Good tackling and high anticipation but useless going forward.

DC: Zahir Falih, 32, Kota Damai (Construction Worker)
Big built, strong leg, very brave but very slow. Easy to get the ball pass him but will make strikers kiss the grass.

DC: Dr. Badri Zainudin, 29, Kota Damai (Doctor) [Captain]
The leader of the team. Intelligent, can read the game well and organized the defense but short.

Bench:
DR, Zufar Amanullah, 28, Kuala Aman (Fisherman)
DL, Noh Sangkara, 26, Kuala Aman (Fisherman)
DC, Gombak Embong, 25, Cintamata (Hotel Staff)
DC, Danang Muda, 28, Teluk Udang (Fisherman)

MIDFIELDERS
DMC: Rafi Muhammad, 32, Kota Damai (Construction Worker)
Will kick your leg.

DMC: Izzudin Tamir, 31, Kota Damai (Construction Worker)
Will kick your leg too.

MC: Bachok Omar, 32, Kota Damai (Fisherman)
Good keeper of the ball with good passing accuracy but dribble with his eyes on the ball. Bad vision.

Bench:
DMC, Asgar Shafi, 28, Kebun Ganja (Farmer)
DMC, Jati Jiwa, 26, Teluk Kapal (Dock Worker)
MC, Johan Basuki, 27, Kota Damai (Fisherman)

FORWARD
AMR: Lukman Aslam, 32, Kota Damai (Shop Owner)
Full of trickery but that’s it. Better suited for freestyling. Can’t last the 90 minutes.

AML: Shakil Moktar, 32, Kota Damai (Fisherman)
Fastest player in the squad, good dribbling but very selfish and rarely hit the target with his shot.

ST: Merdeka Ali, 33, Kota Damai (Bank Manager)
Quick, great first touch and score lots of goals but useless in the air. Athlete of the year for 6 years in a row but ego as big as Mount Melayu. Think the world revolves around him.

AMR, Zulkifli Said, 27, Labuan Dagang (Dock Worker)
AML, Dollah Zahir, 24, Teluk Udang (Unemployed)

Boot It!: Will IAC13 Be Unlucky For Us?

Postby TJUN-ia » Tue Jul 20, 2021 7:46 am

Image

Name: TJUN-ia
Trigram: TJU
Football Association: FA-TJUN-ia
Nickname: Jaguars (official)/Jags (short form)/Blue and Orange (commonly-used informal)/Draw Masters (satirical)/Team Nothing (the truth)
IAC Ranking: 6th

After 3 consecutive World Cups where TJUN-ia failed to qualify at the final hurdle, the aim of the FA-TJUN-ia to try and get the International Community to the big show by WC90 is looking less and less likely by the day. TJUN-ia is very good, don't get me wrong - our #6 ranking in the IAC shows that, but we as a nation are become well known for missing out on greatness by fine margins and that certainly isn't the reputation you want as a National Team. But putting that aside, our 5th IAC takes us to Poafmersia for a unique 3 Stage Format that where a 4-game 1st stage preludes the Group Stage. For many back home, Stages 1 and 2 will need to be completed at a minimum before the Knockouts on Stage 3 become of full concern to Davis Seems and Li Xiu Ying. With 46 players making the trip and the rise of female talent in the U21 set-up, the fate of TJUN-ian football will certainly be interesting to predict over the next few days, months and years.

Murphtannia. That's the only name you have to say to describe what happened at the last Cup Of Harmony. Adam Johnson being frozen out of the knockout stages and denying Squidroidia a last 32 appearance at the 2nd biggest tournament in international football for the second consecutive time. Truth be told, that was a tournament that had the hallmarks of choking seen throughout Squidroidia's previous tournaments - The big pressure collapse like in the IAC 12 Final, the relative obscurity of the team that knocked them out (At least to the untrained eye), and, of course, the anchor being cast down on a cycle of "what if".

3 cycles on from their major international debut at IAC X, the Inklings had turned from a surprising underdog team to one of the best nations in Independent football and a force in the IAC. The miracle run to the final last time out in Almuzahara and Muralos could only be stopped by a Tequilo team that would shortly abandon the Independents for the greener pastures of Anaia. With lessons learned from then and the World Cup cycle in tow, manager Adam Johnson's 2nd cycle as the Squidroidian national team manager has a lot of promise. Would the Squidroidians finally get over the humps and win the IAC? Qualify for the World Cup? Or, perhaps, achieve something greater?

In the homeland of one of Squidroidia's major rivals, nothing was for sure.

RÉPUBLIQUES UNIES DE L’OMERIQUE · UNITED REPUBLICS OF OMERICA

About Omerica
National anthem: “Hymn of the Avonian Martyrs” (Anglian versionGallic version)
Association code: OME
IAC seeding: 7th
All-time record: 189–94–144 (44.3% win rate; 1.55 points per game)
Independent Associations Championship record: 25–8–12 (55.6% win rate; 1.84 point per game)
Record under Christina Tedesco: 5–8–6 (26.3% win rate; 1.21 points per game)
[Results from amateur and youth selections are excluded.]

The Incorrigibles come into their tenth Independent Associations Championship after one of their greatest cycles ever, enjoying a successful IAC by Omerican standards and qualifying for the World Cup finals for the first time in nearly three decades. Though favourites to leave the finals with zero points, Omerica will head into the new international cycle with something most rare in the United Republics: confidence and belief. Now the aim is to justify that confidence and belief in Poafmersia.
Staff
Acting Manager: Christina Tedesco (age 49; b. Kingsmouth, Mespalia)
A close associate of previous Omerica manager George Kostas, Christina Tedesco survived the mass staff cull that ensued after Omerica’s home soil collapse at IAC X. Tedesco took over from Kostas during the second half of World Cup 85 qualifying, managing the Incorrigibles to a better-than-expected 4–4–4 record, giving Stephanidis and the Federation the confidence to keep her around. As with the Eagles Cup (which overlapped with World Cup qualifying), Tedesco will lead the Omerica squad as acting manager due to scheduling conflicts between the first stage and the World Cup finals.

Fitness coach: Jean-Pierre Marchetti
Goalkeeping coach: Stéphane Rousseau
Medical lead: Tahira Bousaid
Physical therapists: Alexandria Stavros and Christiane Michaud

Greetings, compatriots!
It’s TTV from the land of Potato Farmers, known as Poafmersia. This formidable football power begin their way in the international football on the same Baptism of Fire as we are, but altought it’s our lads who won this tournament, Poafmersia play with much better overall results in the international football, and right now also won right to host IAC, confidently prevailed over our own bid together with Quintessense of Dust. So instead of playing on the home turf our lads must travel to the foreign country where take a fight in a tournament of a rather strange format. None of our football pundits and expert dared to claim that he understood exactly why everything was organized this way, the answer to our questions can be only summed as shrug. As one of our national sayings put it, "Got into a circle – then dance as you can". But it would also be nice to find your circle without undue troubles, since our teams has find information where games will be held not without some difficulties and sometimes it’s not too easy to find information where stadiums located and how to reach them. But this probably is result of long spell of Poafmersia’s isolationism, and as a country with the similar background we must take a note about such a difficulties. And, at the end, definitely this is not MC cup two editions ago in Choudal, or Pan-Pacific Cup in Recuecn, where teams on the group stage don’t know even with whom they play before entering field.

Our team has already arrived in the country and got idea of who will be opponents in the upcoming games. The first will be the team that made a wave at the last Indian Cup, i.e. Dari Sultanate, which won every group stage game, then proceed to eliminate regional giants of Indusse in quarterfinals and lost only to the hosts in the final. After that our lads will meet our sworn friends from Abanhfleft. As our viewers definitely remember, we play our first WCQ game with them, and there was a film shot about this, and ways of our teams are crossed very often since then. Galimencia, which was recently begin to play in the international tournaments, is our third opponent, and not much we can to say about this team. Last game of the first stage put our lads face to face with Squornshelan Remnant States team, which succceed in denying our team tickets to the last World Cup. All games will take place in the northern part of the country, in the north and north-west, the last match of the group stage at Libira National Stadium, located just in the center of the country. This stadium is also home for Poafmersia National Team.

Morten Troghil this time take with him three goalkeepers, with experienced Soderhelm added clearly just on the case. That he prefer him instead of Gould is thing of note. He add two young flank defenders to the lineup, and prefer them to the two aged fighters – this maybe pointed on his desire to see his defensive setup much more mobile or start preparing a new squad. For some reason he left home both players whom usually used as defensive midfielders and return Ruud Kolding to the squad. Despite expectations, head coach brings to the Poafmersia only four forwards, and all well-known already, albeit he usually take one or two new faces every time.

Very soon we will be able to find out for sure whether he did the things right, the first game is tomorrow. Let’s wish good luck to our lads!

Omerica will be led out in Poafmersia not by Valentine Augustin, but by Zane Smith. Alexis Stephanidis will not make her first appearance in the Omerica technical area until the second stage (provided Omerica make it that far). Ultimately, this all adds up to the Incorrigibles being fairly vulnerable in the opening sequence of a unique multistage tournament in the North Pacifican republic.

The multistage format has created a troubling schedule conflict for Omerica, forcing Stephanidis’s assistant Christina Tedesco to take charge for Omerica’s first four matches at the thirteenth Independent Associations Championship. Leading out a roster of mostly untested faces— in contrast to the maturing squad Omerica took to the World Cup finals—, the acting manager’s job will be to simply not embarrass the nation in Poafmersia. Granted the last time Omerica were here was for a World Cup qualifying playoff that went tits up for the Incorrigibles, so the bar is set pretty low. And thankfully, Omerica cannot go out in the group stage on home soil again.

The first match for the Incorrigibles will be against débutantes Republic of Indian States at the cosy Davarsi Bria in Holhot. The lengthy republic have not yet disclosed who will be playing for them at the tournament, yet another example of the incredibly common tactic of “surprise ambush” in international sport. Consequently, there is very little to say about this fixture except that defeat would be absolutely humiliating which is why that is precisely what will happen.

Omerica’s second opponents are the first team to have revealed their roster for the tournament and nation the Republic of Indian States probably stole their name off of Indusse. Their meeting at the Offsdi Stadium in Kingsford will be the third overall between the two sides, with Omerica victorious in both prior encounters: the first being a 1–0 victory by the ultimately triumphant IAC 7 winners and the second a 2–0 win in an Eagles Club-arranged friendly match. While the historical record

After that comes one in a series of suspiciously numerous green mountains, this time by the name of Montaña Verde. The Verdeans made their début two years ago in Almuzahara and Muralos, finishing winless in Group D and ahead of only Srednjaci on the final table. They did manage to an impressive draw off eventual runners-up Squidroidia, a result which forced the Inklings into a high-stakes match against Sajnur for a place in the knockout stage. The Verdeans will be hoping to do the same to Omerica in Kistina’s Theatre of Light before their most high profile match…

Drawkland. The Sonnelian superpower needs little in the way of introduction, boasting a meme-filled rivalry that dates back all the way to Omerica’s very first international final in Zoloroni. One of just two fixtures to be played in multiple IAC grand finals, the two champions are guaranteed to pack every seat in Fiskadaha’s Dreamers Park, where Omerican supporters will hope the dream of indie glory can survive. The historical record does not suggest anything positive for Omerica, as Drawkland have never dropped points to the Incorrigibles outside IAC grand finals, and the Drawkians will most certainly be hungry for vengeance after their defeat at the Seven Stars in their most recent grand final appearance.

What is important to remember is that this is not a group. Like a C*****n, all forty-four teams will be ranked against each other on a single overall table, with the top thirty-two advancing to the group stage. Once qualification has been achieved, the big names will be back and the real fun can then begin. Two solid wins will probably be enough to see Omerica through, but at the indie championship, anything can and will happen. ◇

Kencana is not known for its football prowess. It does have an occasional go at international tournaments like the Baptism of Fire, the World Cup qualifiers, and the Melayu Archipelago Cup but without much success. Kencana was eliminated in the group stage of each of the tournaments they participated in.

Football though is very much loved in the small island nation. It is the number 1 sport in the country. Every year, the island of Damai will be flooded by Kencanans from all over the Melayu Archipelago stretching from Libonesia to Eraman where they live nomadic on their houseboats for the annual Liga Kencana at Kota Damai High School Field, the only football field in the country.

Liga Kencana is held every second month of the year in conjunction with the Lepa Festival to celebrate the tradition of boatmaking of the Bajo ethnic group. Eight clubs from eight land settlements in the three Kencanan islands compete to be the best club in the country. Everyone knows Kota Damai will win every year though as they are the main settlement in the country and have the best facility as well as the only field in the country.

Despite knowing what the outcome will be, thousands will still stand on the sideline of the field to watch the best players in the country play against each other. For most Kencanans, that was their only time in the year getting on land. It is the biggest and most important championship for the Kencanans. Even the World Cup or the Melayu Archipelago Cup don’t attract as much interest.

International football though still has its following. Even though those living on houseboats in the middle of the sea will never hear about it, Kencanans who live in stilt houses close to the shore of the island of Damai, Sentosa and Cintamata are crazy about it. That’s the only place in Kencana with TV coverage.

So when the government announced that Kencana will participate in the 13th Independent Associations Championship, it gets the people talking. They have heard of the championship before but never watched one because the government never bought the license to broadcast it.

The disappointment of not participating in the 8th Melayu Archipelago is healed. Why the government chooses to participate in the IAC instead of the MAC baffles the Kencanans but they don’t care as long as they get to see their national team on the international stage. That’s all that matters. They will be glued to the television for any matches involving Kencana even though they know they are going to lose no matter what the competition they are in.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM - WOMEN

From the frying pan and into the fire. Abanhfleft can't keep losing in every single tournament every single time, right?

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft
Demonym: Fleftic
Team colors: Blue, orange, and green
Style modifier: +2.50
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Manager: Heinrich Wurzmann (72 y/o, Abanhfleft/Pridnestrovia)

STARTERS
GK: Bronwyn CHURCHILL 29 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Women Image
Bronwyn is the daughter of Rosenpfelblatz City's new manager Joseph "Joe" Churchill, one of the most decorated managers in the sport within the Fleftic sphere of influence. Bronwyn came with her dad to Rosenpfelblatz and immediately settled in well with the Lady Sky Blues' academy. She is a traditional keeper who prefers to keep close to goal and catch or slap away shots from that position, although she is learning to become a more athletic keeper now that she's training with the likes of Yannie Redborne, Marfa Kirilenko, and Blaze Chrzanowska. She's been elevated to starting goalie because Stephanie Bryan is off playing for the over-35 national team in the World Cup of Masters in Sarzonia.

RB: Colleen ADAMS 33 y/o, Sporting Ceneisis Women Image
There was a time when people wondered what Colleen can offer to the national side. Seven years on and now we know what it is: defensive solidity in the back four. What more can a team ask for then? Well, maybe less yellow and red cards from Colleen. She's had her fair share of those at club level and the SFA is not really keen on her starting up a new account with the referees at the Independents Cup.

RCB: Christy SHEPLEY 30 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Women Image
At 6 feet 2 inches, Christy is already one of the tallest 17-year-old Fleftic central defenders ever in the Democratic Republic and its sphere of influence. Coupled with a supernatural defensive ability, it's a wonder why she's still on the bench and not starting, until one realizes that Christy is quite the thin and willowy girl. She's a good defender and good in aerial and dead-ball situations, there's no doubt about that, but it's still very much child's play to get her off of the ball, and applying the slightest amount of pressure turns Christy into a headless chicken.

LCB: Miranda SULLINS 33 y/o, Sporting Ceneisis Women Image
There's a reason why Sporting Ceneisis were interested in keeping Miranda Sullins in their academy and eventually their team, and that's the fact that she's just a rock-solid ball-playing defender. Miranda could have gone anywhere else she wanted, but she chose to stick it out with the Blues, and they repaid her with a place in their starting eleven. Regular call-ups to the national team also didn't hurt her stock one bit.

LB: Georgine BAUM 29 y/o, Pascal Mashu Image (Kita-Hinode)
Another player with foreign roots playing for the Democratic Republic. This time, Georgine's parents are immigrants, or rather expats, from Pridnestrovia, who escaped the country after her father said a few things that were not to President Field Marshal Stepan Stepanenko's liking. For a long time she was forced to play on the right but now she's back to her preferred left back position after some years being hung out to dry by the SFA. Surprisingly enough, her time playing in right back hasn't turned her into an ambidextrous threat. Maybe it was never meant to be.

RM: Trinidad KLEIST 31 y/o, Xemlice Rovers Ladies Image
Trinnie Kleist was always tipped to become a hard, no-nonsense midfielder who doesn't let the opposition get past her, and for once she actually developed into one such player. She's also matured to the point where she now times her tackles wisely and does them only when necessary. Still doesn't stop some referees whipping out the cards on Trinnie just because her reputation precedes her.

LM: Cecily SEGOVIA 31 y/o, Riuwiee United Women Image
CeCe Segovia is the creative foil to Trinnie Kleist's defensive midfielder. The Oontaz-born central midfielder is the creative outlet for the midfield, setting up passes and long balls to initiate the attack. But that doesn't mean she shirks from her defensive responsibilities. Still, like Trinnie, CeCe is still a bit enthusiastic with the sliding tackles and will get her name on the referee's notebook a fair few times.

RW: Elene LINER 29 y/o, Sarvusdalamoive Ladies Image
Even at her young age, Elene already has the look of a future fantastic keeper. Well, what else can be said about the Sarvusdalamoive Football Academy, which has turned out great Fleftic keepers like Maksim Varamoninov and Victoria Carter? Unfortunately, she's slipped down the pecking order, but only because Brook Arzate deserves the chance to start this time. She had a lot to make up for after that emotionally devastating penalty shootout loss against Schottia in the 9th Under-15 World Cup and she ended up not having the mental strength to get over the disappointment of the shootout so she decided to become a striker instead. This way she hopes to emulate some of Abanhfleft's star forwards like Matthew Cave and Ruud Akinfenyor who started off as goalkeepers and then decided to make the move up to the top of the pitch.

CAM: Prudence WOODWARD 29 y/o, Duhblakk Aztecs Image
Prudence Woodward is the third and final player of Panemian descent to represent the blue, orange, and green for the Sporting World Cup after Guildenstern Cardew and Poppaea Fleet-Street. Prudence has a taste for clever through-balls and occupying pockets of space in which she could create chances and even score a few goals herself. She became a mother after a one-night stand with fellow under-18 teammate Prince William Luckless, but she wants to emulate her fellow single mother footballer in Claudine Samaniego in having both a stable family and a good football career.

LW: Amelie RUSEV 29 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies Image
Amelie Rusev is definitely the complete winger package now. Not only is she both quick and light on her feet and strong in the air and during challenges, she is ambidextrous, able to use both feet to send in long balls and crosses into the box when she wants. With that added crossing ability, Amelie has already cemented her place in the first team of Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies. As for being the next Miss Ludogorets though, for some reason the fans are reluctant to give her that unofficial title. Who knows why?

ST: Kelly McGINNIS 29 y/o, Hoventon & Corlington Town Image (Mercedini)
Kelly McGinnis could very well be the next Chelsea Stuart, and not just because she's become the starting striker for the Fleftic women's national football team. Kelly moved abroad to Mercedini's Hoventon & Corlington Town to continue her development as a striker, but almost a decade later and she's not won much with the Mercedinian side. She wants more, and if moving away from Hoventon & Corlington Town is the way to get it, then she'll just have to make the move.

RESERVES
GK: Deanna HERRING 21 y/o, Arsenal de Releinthi Women Image
Abanhfleft and Ginny Katesmar are taking a risk bringing two under-23 goalkeepers for this tournament as backup to Bronwyn Churchill, but then again, this is supposed to be a bunch of tune-up games after all. Deanna was rated enough by Kate Bernanos to be the starting goalkeeper for what could be Abanhfleft's last Di Bradini Cup for a while, but for the Mike Sarzo Memorial Trophy she's only good enough to warm the bench for Rona Churchill.

GK: Mihaela HRISTOVA 21 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Women Image
Mihaela was the third-string goalkeeper for the under-21 side in Di Bradini Cup 49 for Abanhfleft. She's still third-string here in Muralos, but now it's for the senior women's team itself. It's like a promotion but also not really one.

RB: Queen YARNALL 26 y/o, Admiral Porcusces Women Image
A quiet and sturdy defender who for her age is already making waves not only in the youth leagues but also in her handful of appearances for the Admiral Porcusces Women senior team. Still needs some work obviously but she could have a very high ceiling indeed.

CB: Brooke AUGUSTYN 30 y/o, Dinamo Bender Women Image (Pridnestrovia)
Augustyn didn't exactly become one of the best fullbacks to come out of Abanhfleft, but at least her career wasn't sidelined by too many injuries either. After a decent showing with Eielo Sunlight Women, she made the leap to Pridnestrovia and Dinamo Bender Women where she did well enough to make her way back to the national team.

CB: Tiera WALRATH 28 y/o, Ogovlich Medusas Image
One quarter of the Ogovlich backline that won them the Youth Premier League title this season. Like Wilton Kaba beside her in the under-18 team, Tiera's main purpose is to win balls inside the box and then kick it right out of the danger area. Accuracy needs a bit of work though.

LB: Tien GOODLETT 27 y/o, Ogovlich Medusas Image
The second quarter of the Ogovlich backline that won the Youth Premier League. Tien is more of an attacking fullback who likes to maraud further up the pitch and assist in the attack. She still gets back in defense more times than not but a particularly quick counterattack could still leave her stranded where she can be of no help to her fellow defenders.

RM: SIBUSIZWE Kiggwancha 27 y/o, Athletic Motonou Image
SIbusizwe's greatest strength lies in the fact that she can win the ball in midfield more times than not. Of course, most of this is against girls and boys on or nearly the same age as she is, but when she turned out for Athletic Motonou's senior side in the last few matchdays of the Ladies' Third Division season (with the title already wrapped up for Motonou) Sibusizwe looked capable of doing much the same thing against players who were much older and much more experienced than her. Now, she may be older but she's still no closer to being able to show this side of her game regularly because of manager philosophies and better players becoming available for call-up to the national team.

CM: Poppaea FLEET-STREET 30 y/o, Ogovlich Medusas Image
Poppaea is a rock-solid midfielder with decent ball distribution skills but still has a tendency to go all in on tackles, especially sliding ones. She came out as a lesbian at a young age and has been a pillar in the local LGBTQ sporting community, so when she got dropped from the national team for other midfielders who are better at playing in midfield than her, there was an outcry. The situation calmed down through the years though, and now she's back in the national setup.

LM: Charlene WILLIAMSON 30 y/o, Admiral Porcusces Women Image
Charlene Williamson is the overlooked twin sister of Gareth Williamson. The reasons why she's been overlooked is because her main assets in football are mostly pace, acceleration, physicality, and a good long ball. Charlene can also run with the ball or chase it for 90 minutes and anyone stupid enough to try to take the ball away from her would find themselves on the ground almost immediately. Strangely though, Charlene's physicality tends to vanish during set pieces and Charlene could now count herself lucky if she doesn't end up kissing the grass while trying to get a touch on a corner or a free kick. Perhaps that's why Sporting Ceneisis allowed her to go to their provincial rivals Admiral Porcusces. Now that's one transfer the Blues regretted deeply.

RW: Sohaila MAGOMEDOVA 31 y/o, Exiles FK Image (Pridnestrovia)
Sohaila is one of Heinrich Wurzmann's latest finds from the Alternative Football Program. Her idols growing up were tricky players like Finn Jameson, Ruud Akinfenyor, and Matthew Cave, and Sohaila certainly has the feet to emulate them. She has indeed turned into one of the best right wingers Abanhfleft has to offer, but her decision to move to lower league Pridnestrovian side Exiles FK has cost her many a call-up with the national team. Until now, that is.

LW: Claudia ROOS 30 y/o, Arsenal de Releinthi Women Image
Claudia finally made the move from left back to left winger, a move that worked out well in the end for her, what with her pace, crossing ability, and incisive runs into the box. However, injuries have plagued her career and forced her out of contention for a call-up for much of what should have been the best years of her career, but now it looks like she's about to turn the whole thing around and become a late bloomer along the lines of a certain Tristan Lee.

FW: Hiroko KELLERMAN 23 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Women Image
Kellerman won the Golden Boot in the Fleftic Premier Development League 1 with a 23-goal haul in the 2028-29 season, earning her a promotion up to the senior women's team where she continued her goalscoring form with 21 goals for 2029-30, making her the highest goalscorer of the Citizens that season. She earned a call-up to the under-21 team for the 48th Di Bradini Cup, where she was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise disastrous campaign which once again convinced the SFA to boycott the Di Bradini Cup for real and permanently this time.

The New Cleethorpes Enquirer
Team looks to shine in the dying light of a faded sport

Quintessence of Dust’s national football team returns to the Independent Assocations Championship four years on from a miserable tournament in Almuzahara in which they took just 1 point from 5 group stage games. The Quodite return to international football 8 years ago in Havynwilde had briefly sparked promise of something more substantial, with a 3rd place finish in the group narrowly missing out on the playoffs, but the subsequent tournament proved a bitter disappointment and a reminder of the yawning gulf that has opened up between Quodite football and the rest of the multiverse in the more than a century since the country’s prior involvement. The current crop of players are still grappling with the disbandment of the QFA and slide into even greater obscurity of the once-resurrected, now twice-dead Not-Really-Very-Premier-League.

For all that, the team travels to Poafmersia with a positive attitude that they can improve on the previous dismal showing – even if their first opponent, Almuzahara themselves, provide an unwelcome reminder of past failings. Captain Juurou Okumura says that the team “wants to put the last tournament behind us” and “aren’t swayed by domestic concerns”, though that’s a sentiment that perhaps comes easier to Okumura, who plays with the Busembe Timberwolves in the Shango-Fogoa Premier League in Banija, than teammates such as Jan Muff, who returns to work in a factory for his day job in between turning out for the now-amateur side Église-St-Marys-dans-le-creux-du-noisetier-blanc-près-du-tourbillon-rapide-de-l'église-de-St-Tysilio-de-la-grotte-rouge FC.

Only 5 of the 11 principal starters at IAC-12 are expected to start against Almuzahara: Okumura, Timberwolves teammate Charly Renard, Danni Reed of Astograth’s Blue Mountain Range, Brittany Royce, who plies her trade in Cassadaigua now with Victoriaville South End, and J. J. Rousseau, the sole domestic returnee. However, most of the remaining starters gained experience on the bench: in fact, all 11 starters were part of the IAC-12 squad. That combination of shaking things up – while keeping the ingredients broadly the same – is a source of comfort for Okumura. “We know each other, we’ve played together for a while, and the younger ones are ready to step up.” One who will have big shoes to fill will be Kaycee Thurstan, another Dagan-based player who is replacing the retired Jack Ryder, who proved a reliable goal-scorer up-front for a Quodite team otherwise short on goals.

Whether the team is successful or not in improving on their record, they will probably have less impact regardless on the waning domestic popularity of a sport Quodites never truly loved in the first place. Among Anglo-French Quodites, rugby has always been the pre-eminent game; for Fenno-Scandis, ice hockey; for Asian-Quodites, baseball. Football has lacked a strong ethnic constituency backing it outside the heartlands of Nowy Orpington and Rahlia. Lack of investment since Han giant Samseong pulled out, absence of international participation with infrequent, and then totally absent, showings at the World Cup and UICA/IFCF, have all contributed to the demise. But those who recall the pro-am side that trotted out in World Cup 33 can probably remember that even then, football was a niche sport in the Democratic States. A good run in Poafmersia could revive the fortunes of the team: but it is unlikely to ever redress the long slide back into obscurity of the sport overall.
The fight is long and tough, but together, we can make it. -- José Carlos Mariátegui

Two kinds of pork in one soup? Bring it on. -- Christina Hendricks

Note:
*Caps, and subsequent result stats below do not include WCQ88/WC88.
*Player ages are as though the qualifiers are held before the 9th IFCF cycle, as it is in our calendar. Do approximately add 1 age for everyone during the IAC.

Captain: Makana Tuft
Vice-Captain: Joel Haodao
Penalty Taker: Joel Haodao (1st), Makana Tuft (2nd)
Free Kick Taker: Monesty Erdos, Aleka Dufour
Corner Takers: The prevailing LB/RB (in the case of a 4-3-3) or LM/RM (in the case of a 3-4-3)

Head Coach: Adnan Suliaha, 57
Assistant Head Coach: Katiri Hedge, 63
General Playing Style: Being a nation which emphasises on fast paced attacking football, Poafmersia would prefer to attack rather then defend. The players can be quite aggressive in getting back the ball, yet they do not keep high amounts of possession and they are very good at making use of mistakes by the opposition team to punish the opponents. Although this team has a weakness in defending set pieces, they are more fond of scoring through set pieces. Another way of scoring is often pressuring opponents through high defensive lines. This team, however, is likely to push forward even more attack, going even further to try to score more goals. The more goals, the better.

Formations: 3-4-3, 4-3-3
Style Modifier: +2.782
Note: Please refer to preview before match to know the predicted lineup for the day. If one is not posted, you may utilise the last posted lineup, and make any enforced changes as you like. (due to injuries, suspensions, etc.)

Fans
Poafmersian fans are crazy about football, and their loud cheers ring about in the stadiums they visit. They are very willing to disturb the peace in the area to celebrate their win after matches, so matches are best held in the afternoon or early evenings. You can spot Poafmers booking large meeting rooms in hotels, going to bars in groups. Apart from that, they do pick up after themselves, and prevent causing much trouble apart from celebrating. You can be assured, however, that they would be travelling around to support their team, so do reserve half the spots in stadiums for them because they would pack it to the brim.

Time Context: WC88 is at the start of the year. IAC13 is in June of the same year. U18WC is held in the same time as the regionals, slightly later. DBC is held towards the end of the year, where the BoFs are. Host bids are typically announced a year in advance, Poafmersian time.
Newspaper Context: Mancodas Herald is a broadsheet, published in Mancodas, mainly reports on domestic news. No special sports section, this goes in the main page. Poafmer Times is the biggest broadsheet in Poafmersia, has their own sports section, and reflects general opinion of the people. Sporting Daily is a sports-exclusive newspaper in Poafmersia.

Young Panjias withdraw from U18WC as "Aggregated Group Stage" format gets snubbed in vote
Reported by Mancodas Herald
Fiskadaha City - The Poafmersian Football Association (PFFA) unanimously approved the resolution to alternate between the Di Bradini Cup (DBC) and the Under-18 World Cup (U18WC) for the Young Panjias team, following news that the bid to host the latter has failed after a joint decision by the U18WC caretaker president and the previous U18WC host.

The 3-year long debate on whether a 4-year alternating cycle between the U18WC and the DBC, which is hosted for Under-21 football teams, is better for the development of the Young Panjias came to an end following this morning's vote, which was witnessed and support by academy representatives, as well as current senior team head coach Adnan Suliaha. "I think the change in emphasis to one tournament every 2 years helps us to pick the very best. Yes, that means we miss out on talents who are in the off-cycles, but that would increase competition and quality of preperation for the DBC," commented Suliaha after the vote. "Our scouts on the ground, and the young players getting time in our revamped Professional Developmental League, will help in the youth development of Poafmers."

The decision to withdraw from the U18WC comes as Poafmersia was snubbed in their host bid. In contrast to the Independent Associations Championship host bid result last week, where Poafmersia's bid went through by a huge margin, a similar "Aggregated Group Stage" format for the U18 WC was snubbed in favour of a more traditional bid by Xanneria and Starcom Racing. Poafmersia was not the first team to withdraw following the announcement; Sarzonia, who withdrew from the qualification of the 87th World Cup over issues with regards to the issues with one of the hosts, also chose to withdraw their team for the U18WC. Ealier, the defending champions Tumbra, as well as Quebec, had withdrew their participation following Xanneria's announcement to host together with their client state Starcom Racing. (As at press time, it seems that Tumbra has confirmed they will be returning to defend their title, in an undo of their decision)

Hylie Jacquan laments U18WC bid failure as he defends "Jacquan format"
Reported by Poafmer Times
Hylie Jacquan thought today will be the day he celebrates "double success" for the format he calls the "Aggregated Group Stage". But the morning the call came, he realised it was not going to be a celebration.

Instead, a "poorer" bid won the host bid for the U18 World Cup (U18WC), making Jacquan and the Poafmersian Football Association really dissapointed. "I don't see how our bid loses in anyway," said Jacquan, in an exclusive interview with the Times.

Jacquan spent a whole hour, explaining his rationale for coming up with the proposed format, and also pointing out the reasons for the differentiated format between the Independent Associations Championship (IAC) and the U18WC. "IAC has a ranking system in place, so the tournament needs to account for the ranks. The amount of randomness will need to be more balanced in that case, so 4 pots, one pot each, one game between each pot including your own. With the U18WC, you need more exposure. 8 group stage matches, while slightly on the excessive side, works with any numbers. Maybe 7 games work. Give teams enough group stage tournament games, and then the top teams will float up. Now have a mini-play in round with numbers work. If not, go straight to the knockouts. But a small knockouts would be better as the players don't have to play 120 minutes so many times, something that isn't fun for young players who shouldn't be using penalties. Seriously."

The format, which is known unofficially as the "Jacquan format" by many citizens, aims to deal with the problems of Casaran by being up front about the fixtures. Instead of only playing teams with similar records, the format suggests that teams play with other teams in every quarter to ensure balance.

Jacquan also commented that the winning hosts had previous problems with their hosting that "definitely raised eyebrows" among a number of states. "If you mess up a hosting for these players, who are playing their first international tournament," he adds, "you are going to leave a sour impression in their minds. So please, don't give the hosting of youth tournaments to someone with a patchy record."

MD1 Cutoff!

RP Prompt for the MD: Beginnings
Every football team has their beginnings. Every country has their early history. Poafmersia has a long history, but the beginnings of international football in Poafmersia begun 10 years ago, when the team played in the 71st Baptism of Fire in Zwangzug and Timuria. How about yours? Share about the beginnings of football in your country, how you got into international football, how your players started their journey. If you prefer, you may talk about your country's history instead.

Sorry for the late results, I should have done the setup earlier. Also, I would be looking to cutoff towards middle of the cutoff window for the next cutoff.

Independent Associations Championship 13 - Everything Thread

Postby Squidroidia » Wed Jul 21, 2021 7:32 am

Frustration - Hartburg, Græntfjall

"SquidroidiaFanTV, aww, you got a smile on your face!"

"This was a freaking joke, man. Seriously. Seriously, man. I had enough of this now, man. I had enough now. I had enough of this nonsense, man. Get them out. Get them out man."

"Who are you talking about?"

"Get the team out man. Get them out. Get them out. I'm tired of this crap man. Same, same thing every Cup after Cup after Cup. We just got eliminated against Murphtannia. Murphtannia, man. Same thing as last time [against Sargossa]. Dominated the first half, what did Johnson say to them? Go lose the game in 10 minutes. Ten minutes, man!"

"The fans in the stadium, they said that the goal was offside. Offside or not, their performance... There was nothing down or in, I was watching them down there and they completely dominated us in the second half!"

"They were just attack, attack, attack... Attack, attack, attack... Kane, what the hell were you doing? What do you bring to this team? Seriously, terrible again. I had enough of this now. 'Oh, we got Itō", what the hell is he doing? WHAT IS HE DOING?"

"You'd put him in for IAC 13, then?"

"What, playing like THAT!? He didn't come over and apologize to the fans, man. The only man I saw come up was Adam Johnson! Everyone else went off. HOW DARE YOU, HOW FREAKING DARE YOU MAN! Travel to Hartburg, yeah, travel to Hartburg for this freaking crap! AGAIN!"

Back to the Bottom - Dury, Poafmersia

The backlash to that loss still stung to Squidroidian fans. Before the final game of the group stage of Cup of Harmony 80, Murphtannia were still considered by fans to be a minor rival to Squidroidia, as they said their major rivalries were against Poafmersia and HUElavia. In the days after the game, they became a major rival to the Inklings, joining the Red Panijas and the boys and girls in yellow. The sheer bitterness of the game was seemingly revenge for IAC 11, as this time Murphtannia knocked them out instead of them knocking out Murphtannia. For one nation it was joy, for the other it was heartbreak and frustration.

Murphtannia weren't having a crack at this IAC, but perhaps for the team it was for the better. Round 4 of the newly christened rivalry would have to wait, as the team were put on a crash course through perhaps the weirdest format they had ever seen. The group stage was now, in actuality, the second round, as a 4 game "first stage" format would act as the first round, or to some people qualification for the main tournament itself. 7 games just to get to the last 16, the same amount as Cup of Harmony 78 where they went to the last 16 before losing to Northwest Kalactin.

The first game was where Squidroidia picked back up to their winning ways. Against a debut Minardina side that had no international experience whatsoever, the veterans were challenged against the newcomers in the former's quest to reach the promised land again. The defensive tactics of Johnson would break down the attacks the Minardinians had, however, avoiding an embarrassing upset to start the tournament. Early in the second half, Makino Hideo would provide the boys and girls in blue their first goal of the tournament, firing it in from point black range and just past the keeper. It was, of course, the only goal in the game.

It was a far cry from the early days of Squidroidian football, but perhaps it might be a coincidence that Squidroidia's first IAC game was a 1-0 win against Kayangan. In fact, all 4 of the first games in the IAC have ended up as wins for the Inklings, a trend which would continue for yet another tournament. Another sheer coincidence will occur when Squidroidia meet up against Kohnhead at the same pitch they met Minardina on, the Matty Horis Stadium in Dury. The last time these 2 teams met in meaningful competition was during Cup of Harmony 78, the one with the seven team group, in matchday 2. Squidroidia would win that game 3-2 en route to their first, and so far only, Cup of Harmony knockout stage appearance. A clash with the Brains, like any other top IAC team, is one that the Inklings would take seriously considering their track record. Against Pot 2 teams in this tournament, the Inklings are 8-0-0 in all competitions, a record that they want to extend to 9-0-0 with a win in Dury. A win would also mean that the Squidroidians have a good shot of not only making the second stage, but getting a Pot 1 draw.

The last thing a team like this needs is to mess up so, so early...

Finally! A win at the IAC!

Postby Garbelia » Wed Jul 21, 2021 8:32 am

Summary of: Garbelia 2 (Ottoman 43, Goodotter 66) - 0 Volinovia

After going winless in their previous IAC tournament, nerves were high in the otter's camp before this potentially crucial game.

1 Kickoff Ottoman plays the ball back to Blisset, who offloads to Kawauso.
11 Shot blocked! Knopp attempts a half-volley from a Huron clearance, but Lutrison slides in to block the effort.
17 What a save! Ottoman rises highest to meet Kawauso's curled corner, but his header towards bottom corner is saved by Bellerose.
23 Foul! Ramirez is judged to have fouled Blisset as they jumped to meet a clearance. No card given, but a final warning.
27 Close! Vydra's cross is blocked, and Otter tries to strike it from outside the box but his curling effort doesn't dip enough, sailing just over.
43 Goal! Otterra chips a through ball to Vydra, who collects it and allows the strikers time to reach the box. She passes to Kawauso on the overlap, who plays it back to her, and she chips a cross to the back post, where Ottoman jumps higher than his marker to score an almost empty goal.
Injury Time: +3 minutes.
Half time! Garbelia 1 - 0 Volinovia
45 Substitution! Otter is replaced by Muto, with the youngster visibly tiring and Otterdottir switching to a 5-2-3, in order to preserve Garbelia's lead.
45 Kickoff Moreno passes onto the wing.
48 Yellow Card! Ramirez tugs on Kawauso's shirt as the player looked to charge down the wing.
66 Goal! Otterata makes a dazzling run down the wing, outsmarting the attack-minded Schmidt and drawing Rhinehart onto the wing. Warren was distracted by Ottoman's run, and the full-back's cutback finds Goodotter, who places the ball in the bottom-left corner.
Full Time! Garbelia 2 - 0 Volinovia

"Hello, I'm Lutra Scratchington, reporting on the IAC, where Garbelia have picked up a win against spirited Volinovia. The opposition looked spritely in the first half, matching Garbelia's swift passing, but the physicality of Ottoman undid their back line, allowing Garbelia to score the opener. At half time, Otterdottir switched to 5 at the back, effectively killing the game, although Arthur Goodotter's impressive strike did help."

Player spotlight on: Lonivan Blisset!

Boot It!: Not The Best Win, But They All Count

Postby TJUN-ia » Wed Jul 21, 2021 9:17 am

By Peter Davis

After another long wait with plenty of "what ifs" in the air, the Jaguars of TJUN-ia flew out to Poafmersia for IAC13 and one of the most interesting formats the International Community has ever gotten involved in. Like ever. A 4-team "mini-Swiss" format means we have to play 4 ranking games here in "Stage 1" in order to determine our seeding for the group stage proper in "Stage 2" and with 12 teams eliminated before we reach that point, there is certainly no room for sleepwalking for a team known for screwing up our fun. That isn't a blight on David Seems and Li Xiu Ying, that's just a national mantra at this point. Ever since our humble debut in BOF71, TJUN-ia has risen to become a force to be reckoned with in the sport - but we're always lacking something that prevents us from crossing the line that is making WCs. As everyone ages and the hopes of a WC pre Cycle 90 decreasing by the day, maybe the next steps may involve more involvement from the next generation...but that is a story for another time. Now, the focus is on winning as many games as possible and proving we deserve our #6 IAC Ranking after all.

Our next journey began at 4 pm at the Theatre of Light in Kistina as we took on Pot 4 Raspotochje, a debutant to both the IAC and senior football overall. To say this game was a drag would be a complete understatement as both TJUN-ia's lack of effort (especially in the first half) and our opponents desire to not lose by 4 or so goals meant that nothing really happened for like...the first hour. The only thing of note from this game was a 66th-minute goal from Peliniho and that would basically be that. Everyone won, I guess: TJUN-ia got the dub and our opponents only lost by a simple goal.

It wasn't the greatest win in our history but, as they say, they all count in the end. Our first real test comes next as we take on Pot 2's Almuzahara, the co-hosts of the last IAC, in BIkarish. We're off to a good start, but can we play better? GO JAGS!

Adab avoid defeat in epic fashion in IAC 13 triumph against Abanhfleft

The Adab national football team snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Abanhfleft at Poafmersia’s Bikarish Stadium to begin their Independents Association Championship 13 campaign, in a match that even Adab manager Saad Kaykali felt was otherwise dominated by the Fleftic team.

A full year after their last competitive match in the Cup of Harmony 80, the Adabians were evidently rusty entering into the match, with their opponents quickly storming and running circles around the sluggish defense, culminating in Amelie Rusev converting Elene Liner’s cross into a powerful strike barely a minute into the match, blasting the ball into the back of the net as Adab keeper Mohammed Marramzi crumpled onto the grass, feebly looking at the ball that had just gone past him.

To their credit, the Adabian defenders seemed to realize what was at stake after the early goal, with Taymour Frangieh rallying the rest of the back four as they worked to block further Fleftic attacks.

But their midfield quickly ran into trouble, with the young power duo of Alulim Sinmuballit and Emma Arthur separated from and unable to coordinate with each other thanks to the deft movements of Abanhfleft’s Trinidad Kleist and Cecily Segovia, who were backed by Fleftic defenders as they rushed the Adabian side of the pitch. Adab’s older midfielder Ephraim Orlev was soon frantically rushing back and forth across the width and length of the pitch, bearing the brunt of Fleftic attacks as Adab’s defenders guarded him, a task which left him visibly exhausted just fifteen minutes into the match.

Adab’s attempts to mount their own offense mostly died at their hands of the capable Fleftic midfielders. Rebekah Yissakar offered a glimmer of hope for his countrymen as he received the ball from Orlev just off the center circle in the 24th minute and ran with it. Approaching the penalty area, swerving to avoid the incoming Georgine Baum, she passed the ball backwards to Enlilbani Yargab, who had only barely moved when Miranda Sullins charged at him and fired the ball all the way back to the center circle, ending the Adabian offense.

Indeed, were it not for Adab’s sturdy defenders, the Fleftic team could have scored many more goals. Rusev had another clear chance at the goal in the 30th minute, with the road towards the net wide open after she made her way past Frangieh and Yousif Issou, but the the defenders ran after her and a wall was soon forming before her, visibly causing her to hesitate before she sent the ball past a narrow gap between Issou and Shania Enmerkar, which slid on the crossbar and landed out of the pitch.

Another great chance for Adab’s opponents came in the 43rd minute, as Prudence Woodward exploited a gap to run down the middle of the pitch before passing the ball to Kelly McGinnis, who however had been marked by Tansu Altun and Issou. In the heat of the moment, with almost all Adabian players running back to the penalty area to defend the net, McGinnis shot wide to the right of the goal.

The Adabians fared somewhat better in the second half, having begun to shake off their rustiness, and midfielders Sinmuballit and Arthur seemed to rediscover their mojo, regaining possession of the ball several times and winning aerial battles throughout the first ten minutes of the second half. Nevertheless, a rather weak Enlilbani Yargab shot at the goal in the 55th minute – the Adabians’ best chance in thirty minutes – was effortlessly deflected by Fleftic keeper Bronwyn Churchill, and soon they were once again on the back foot.

In the 67th minute, Kleist slipped past Arthur and was entering the penalty area when she found more than half of all Adabian players were standing in front of the goal in a desperate attempt to block her shot. Kleist passed the ball to Liner, who in turn fired it to Woodward, who was however a step too slow and found herself beaten to the ball by Frangieh, who zigzagged his way past a slew of Fleftic players as he headed back towards the midfield, passing the ball to Sinmuballit and leaving the midfielders to battle it out.

Yet, despite Adab’s defensive heroics, they were still down 1-0 and barely able to counter-attack, with several weak attempts led by Yargab, Jushur al-Kufa, and Yissakar quickly stopped by Fleftic defenders. The Fleftic lead once again threatened to increase in the 75th minute, after a failed Adabian counterattack, as Christy Shepley fired a long ball which landed right on the line of Adab’s penalty area, sending both teams rushing back to the Adabian side of the pitch. McGinnis, the closest Fleftic player to the ball, did not make it there in time, and the ball was taken by keeper Marramzi and sent back to the arriving defenders.

As the match entered its final ten minutes, however, hope resurfaced for the Adabians. The Fleftic players appeared increasingly exhausted and gradually retreated back to their own side, and though the Adabians, too, were gassed, captain Marramzi and vice-captain Yargab rallied the team for another counterattack, hoping at least to tie the match as the clock ticked down.

A direct shot by al-Kufa at the Fleftic goal in the 87th minute was barely blocked by Churchill, leaping down on the ball as it was on the verge of crossing the line, but two minutes later the Adabians finally struck gold:

The 35-year-old Yargab, in a flash of brilliance that was missing for much of the match, made it onto the penalty area. With Churchill standing on his path, Yargab suddenly kicked the ball slowly to the right.

With Yissakar on the right wing some distance away outside the penalty area, by all means Churchill should have easily caught the ball, and it seemed that Yargab was inviting her to do just that.

But as she jumped at the ball, Yargab, too, leapt at it, and he was a split-second quicker, planting his foot on the ball and pulling it back as Churchill collapsed face-first onto the grass. Then he rushed to the left for the now-open goal, firing the ball to the back left corner of the net. Thousands of traveling Adabian fans cheered as Yargab shouted a hoarse shout and, eyes wide open, repeatedly beat his chest, an unusually primal display of emotion from the famously calm striker.

At the 89th minute, the Adabians had finally equalized, and it seemed that the match would end in a tie.

It did not.

The next minute, as Yargab once again threatened the penalty area from the middle, a mass of Fleftic players converged on him, moving quickly to deny him another chance at the goal. In a typically daring Yargab move, he launched the ball right between and past Baum’s legs towards Yissakar, who was just now a few feet behind and to the left of Baum. Coming into the penalty area, Yissakar stopped right at the line. With Churchill inching closer to her and a multitude of Fleftic players coming at her from almost every direction, Yissakar then rushed for the narrow gap between Churchill and the crossbar.

Churchill launched herself at her. Yissakar pulled back ever so slightly, turning to the right so that her back was to Churchill, who in launching herself forward had stumbled and nearly fallen on Yissakar. Not looking back, Yissakar swiftly turned left and sent the ball lurching towards the goal line. Churchill regained her balance and attempted to intercept the ball, but by the time she caught up to it, it was well inside the line.

The Adabian fans inside the stadium erupted in wild celebrations as Yissakar fell on her knees and pointed at the sky as her overjoyed teammates gathered around her. They certainly deserved this.

It was the 90th minute.

Kaykali sympathizes with Fleftics, feels Adabian performance leaves “room for improvement”

In the post-match press conference, Adab manager Saad Kaykali was quick to offer his commiserations to the Fleftic side.

“The Fleftics are one of the best teams in the world,” Kaykali said. “To be honest with you, I feel they were the better team tonight.

“They had possession for long periods of time and kept coming at us. Thankfully we performed when it mattered the most, but still I cannot help but feel sorry for them after the amazing level of play that they displayed.

"I was a player before I was a manager, and I had moments where I thought we'd won the match, but then our opponents scored against us and won. It's like a car race where you've been leading for most of the race, but then the second-placed guy overtakes you with just two laps left.

“In the end, it’s a shame only one team can win. I know they’ll come back better and stronger.”

Despite pulling off a win, Kaykali nevertheless feels that his team’s performance leaves a lot to be desired. “We hadn’t played competitively for a year and it showed. You’re not supposed to concede a goal in just one minute.

“We never gave up, though, and we rallied and made a comeback. But still there is room for improvement. This was our first match in this edition’s IAC and there’s still quite a long way for us to go, more opportunities to improve ourselves in the next matches.”

Kaykali ended the press conference with a lighthearted nod at a prominent Fleftic sports blogger. “I can’t wait to see what the Man from Markovsky has got to say about this match.”

No Mercy

HUElavia open up the Play-in round with a throttling of goals against Roless.

HUElavia 4-2 Roless
(Nascimento 1', 72', Yamane 30', Girault 61' | REDACTED 41', REDACTED 89')
(Dreamers Park, Fiskadaha City, Poafmersia)

Once again, the Independent Associations Championship was upon HUElavia, a tournament that Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos always seek to win. This time, there was a Play-in tournament with all 44 participating teams playing, where 32 of them would advance to the Final Tournament. For HUElavia, their first opponent in this round was newcomers Roless. The match was set to be played at Dreamers Park (60,000) in Fiskadaha City, with a vast majority being HUElavians flocking to Poafmersia to support the team. The B-Team was used, with Bohdanovych in goal and Torrisi as the Captain, with the Home Uniform being worn. After a great cheer and passion sung by the supporters by the anthem, the ball rolled and the match was under way!

HUElavia drew first blood, and the first goal of the tournament in the 1st minute, when Alvarado sent a long ball to Girault, who chested it down to pass it to Nascimento, who sped past REDATCED and slid the ball past REDACTED into the goal to make it 1-0. The HUElavian crowd erupted, making the stadium rumble from the jumping and screaming, some chanting to the goal song, while Nascimento did a dance with his teammates and the bench, finishing with doing The Cross to celebrate his first senior goal with the team. HUElavia kept up with attacks, barely allowing Roless getting something through. In the 30th minute, Torrisi got the ball from Di Donato, where he ran to the side, being covered by REDACTED, giving a chip past the defender, and ran past to chip the ball over the defense, only for Yamane to appear uncovered, chest the ball down, and blast it at point-blank past REDACTED into the goal to make it 2-0. Once more, the crowd jumped up to celebrate with joy and passion, while Yamane hugged her teammates and gave hi-fives all around for the great play. Late in the half, in the 41st minute, a corner was won for Roless, where REDACTED took a curving kick, which went over the heads of everyone, only for REDACTED to appear uncovered and head the ball down, ricocheting up past Bohdanovych into the goal to make it 2-1. REDACTED got the ball back and ran to center circle, while the small supporters of Roless were cheering the goal.

In the second half, HUElavia kept on attacking, giving no chances for Roless to do something meaningful. In the 61st minute, a long pass by Larrangoz got to Font, who gave a cross towards the box, where REDACTED headed the ball out from the reach of Savedra (in for Yamane), and out of the box, Girault took a blistering shot that blasted past REDACTED into the goal to make it 3-1. The crowd erupted once more from the spectacular goal, celebrating with joy and passion, while Girault did a summersault and threw a fist in the air to celebrate her first senior goal with the team, while being congratulated by her teammates. In the 72nd minute, a long pass was sent out from Resendes forward past the reach of REDACTED, who miscalculated the cross, leaving Nascimento to get the ball all alone, going one-on-one with REDATCTED, before giving a shimmy to slide past the goalie and slide the ball into the empty goal to make it 4-1. The crowd jumped up once more, applauding the effort and the goal, while Nascimento did a small dance and The Cross, before celebrating with his teammates for his brace. In the 89th minute, Resendes had the ball, but REDACTED had dispossessed her, going one-on-one with Bohdanovych, where he gave a low shot, which rolled into the goal, despite Bohdanovych getting a finger to it, making it 4-2. REDACTED ran to the goal to pick up the ball to run back, but it was too little, too late as the match ended after 3 minutes of additional time, and HUElavia got the first points of the tournament, in a decisive victory.

With the victory, HUElavia have started out on the right foot, and have shown what the B-Team is capable of when given faith and playing time. Now, the A-Team will be coming out to play, with Vannier in goal, and Navarro as the Captain, along with the Home Uniform being worn once again. The next match will be against their most difficult rival, Kriegiersien of Pot 2, who is coming off a 3-1 victory over Franco-Canadian Michigan. This match will be set to take place at Theatre of Light (59,000), in Kistina, where it is expected for a strong showing of HUElavians to be present in the stadium for the match. For both teams, a victory may be putting them a foot into the Final 32-Team Tournament. Thus, it is an obligation for both teams to go at it with the spot on the line. For now, the team trains and studies films, preparing for the next match. These matches cannot be taken for granted, and the team is looking to make a statement with each match. It's pure life for the players and the fans alike, as they enjoy their time in Poafmersia.

I somehow did not realize until this post was well underway that the two characters in it have names only differing by one letter. lol

Paiva Shimski had spent most of the matchday morning trying to avoid Hekima and Dagmund. Not that she got the impression either of the two older goalkeepers was upset with her specifically. Still, it was awkward being named the starter in net for the tournament opener ahead of two much more experienced players. Being around them since Groothuis had made that announcement at training the day before, she felt simultaneously and urgent need to say something, anything, as well as a complete paralysis and inability to do so.

Last night she'd managed to escape, going out for a bite to eat with Naiva Storrev. The midfielder had taken Paiva under her wing in her first season in the Zenith, and they remained friends despite Naiva's departure from Newrook in the last transfer window. Naiva had been congratulatory, emphasizing her confidence in the young keeper and it had done a lot to calm Paiva's nerves. After all, Naiva was right. It's not as if this was going to be her first cap. She'd gotten a few chances to play during World Cup 88 qualifying, and done pretty well for herself. Those matches had mostly been against fairly low-ranked opposition, but this was also not her first experience in high stakes matches, Naiva had reminded her.

She'd played in a cup final at 18, and helped Sporting win the second tier that same season. The following years had been less glamorous, but the tension was certainly high as she and the Rebels staved off relegation again and again. With Newrook, she'd had the novel experience of playing for a mid-table side. Still, with so many of the best players in the world plying their craft in the Zenith, it had certainly been a high-pressure environment, despite the relative lack of expectation for the team as a whole.

"You can do this, Paiva. Groothuis believes in you, and so do all the rest of us."

Paiva had played that sentence back in her head again and again as she struggled to fall asleep that night, and again the next morning. She repeated it to herself during warmups in the early afternoon, and as she walked out onto the field with the team in front of the roaring crowd. It was her mantra as she patrolled the box, and sometimes she imagined she could hear it in the voices of the crowd after each save she made. Not that she was particularly busy. The Black-and-Reds had most of possession, though her teammates seemed to be struggling to capitalize on it. In front of her, the back line was doing its job well, limiting the Felinetopians chances mainly to shots from distance, or from bad angles that Paiva was able to handle without difficulty.

The mood postmatch was subdued. The team felt they played well enough to win, but hadn't been able to find a goal. Paiva got a few pats on the shoulder, and a terse "good work" from Groothuis, but as clean sheets go, this didn't feel like one worth celebrating. No time to dwell on the last match though, up next they had Sajnur, who were coming off a decisive victory over the Brasilia. The Sajnurans has put five past their opposition, and Paiva was determined that they would not find things so easy against her.

Top Scorer: Aaron Korkson (64)
Most Assists: Linus Rallyton (43)
Most Caps: Nicholas Radison (143)

OOC: This takes place right at the end of the last domestic season before the transfer window started

Team Info: The Brains surpassed all expectations and turned many heads at their original attempt at qualifying as we came in 5th of our group but that doesn't tell the whole story. We were in it until the second to last match where Drawkland eliminated us by winning 5-4. Our second attempt at qualifying went extremely poorly leading to Christopher Kohnhead getting the axe and Michael White out of South Newlandia coming in. The Michael White era has started off pretty well for Kohnhead with good results at the Twicetagria Football Invitational, however subpar results at the 11th IAC had many wondering if we could truly mount a challenge in qualifiers. With a new formation, a new mindset, and some new players we came in 4th of the Group and even managed to win the UWC belt to carry it into the Cup of Harmony where we finished 2nd in our group before suffereing a humiliating 5-1 loss to Mercedini in the Round of 32 once again. Unfortunately a poor run in the IAC with the top team competing saw us exit in the Group Stage and changes were made afterwards that bring in new players and give Harry Richman and Rodriguez Sporet their International Retirements. Kohnhead were in a top two position for virtually all of the World Cup 88 Qualifiers and had a chance to win the Group or get an automatic top six second place spot. However 0 points from our last three games saw us literally lose out on a playoff spot by a point to Tikariot. Sure the team performed quite well especially the defense and Michael White gets all credit for that but we choked... hard, and he heard it from our supporters. White followed this up by leading us to a single point in the Cup of Harmony failing to lead us past the Group Stage for the first time and now the pressure is mounting for the former South Newlandian assistant.

The official roster of the KNFT consists of the following players for the 13th IAC. It has players from the KFA (Kohnhead Football Association), as well as some who play on teams abroad.

Starting XI
(C) Right Forward: Aaron Korkson #91 (M) Age: 26 Team: Kohnhead City FC
Caps: 131 Goals: 64 Assists: 28
The 26 year old captain played very well at the Baptism of Fire before their loss in the round of 16. He also was one of the main reasons they were able to do so well in the World Cup 85 qualifiers. He's a strong leader and is able to score goals pretty easily. He and Maltos are the stars on Kohnhead City FC and on national team. He will be entering his prime soon and leads the squad in goals by a pretty large amount. Korkson followed an awful campaign in WC 86 Qualifying with his best in WC 87 Qualifying leading the team in goals and showing why he's considered the top striker. An injury in the 12th IAC hurt his stock but he recovered in time to resume his domestic duties and showed in the two preceding friendlies that he's fully healthy. This proved to not really be true as when healthy he dominated but he had a very injury riddled campaign with the National Team and had he been fully healthy the entire time we probably would have qualified.

Left Forward: Erin Maltos #10 (F) Age: 26 Team: Kohnhead City FC
Caps: 138 Goals: 50 Assists: 29
Erin Maltos is very good. While Korkson may have more goals, the impact she has on the game when she's plays cannot be understated and although there are times and there are some games where she may disappear into the shadow of other stars, she has the best footwork on the team and a deadly shot. She like Korkson will be reaching her prime soon and it will be good to see, Maltos like Korkson had a bounce back campaign last cycle which was huge and of the strikers on the National Team she has had the most success domestically even if here she takes a 1B role. Maltos really came on with Korkson's injury problems and while she couldn't take us up the mountain she almost nearly did.

Right Midfielder: Suzanna Barter #60 (F) Age: 21 Team: Olympique de Rimouski (Quebec and Shingoryeo)
Caps: 38 Goals: 4 Assists: 4
Suzanna really emerged in season 1 of the the KFA Premier League on a surprise Real Dawson squad that made the Challengers Cup and a few seasons later completed a massive transfer for 4.75 million to Kingston FC in Quebec and Shingoryeo. Despite a rocky start in year one she was amazing in their second season helping them finish 9th in the Q-League and earning herself a move to second place on tiebreakers for 6.0 million surpassing Linus Rallyton to become the most expensive Kohnheadian player at only 21. Barter has played herself into a starting role ahead of Al Torgan and she performed really well during Qualifying to show that she deserves this spot.

Central Midfielder: Sophie Johnson #7 (F) Age: 21 Team: Kohnhead City FC
Caps: 67 Goals: 7 Assists: 12
While Sophie Johnson was buried on the depth chart at the Cup of Harmony 78 a great run of form in the KFA Premier League scoring five goals for second place Kohnhead City FC as well as Michael White's approval during training earned her this spot away from Audrey Henderson. It was bold move however especially given the talent at the position but Johnson more than justified her starting spot during the cycle and she fit right in for the offense. Her starting spot isn't going anywhere and she's just another example of why this team can be so good in the future and she showed a lot of her upside during Qualifying.

Central Midfielder: Linus Rallyton #11 (M) Age: 28 Team: FC Yassaca (Squornshelean Remnant States)
Caps: 137 Goals: 24 Assists: 43
It didn't take long for Linus Rallyton to show that he was the best player in Kohnhead and it happened during our Baptism of Fire as he looked dominant. He is our all time leader in assists with 43 and he controls the game from the center of the field as that guy. Last offseason he completed a massive move to FC Yassaca in the Squornshelan Remnant States and they finished in second place after failing to get a victory in their final match which would have sealed it. Despite this it was a great season being named the second best signing, the fourth best midfielder, and the fourth best foreign player. He followed it up by being named to the Team of the Season in his second campaign although Yasacca only qualified for the Challengers Cup and has now been named team captain. Internationally he has been brilliant and leads the team in assists a mark that no one is anywhere close to. Heading into his third season at Yasacca the time was right for a breakthrough and as the newly named captain he led them to the title and was named midfielder of the season an award that had evaded him for two seasons once again making the Team of the Year obviously. Then something even more amazing happend as he captained the IFCF Challengers Cup Champions with Yassaca going on a great run in the ensuing Domestic season while once again winning the league and midfielder of the year, and the only Kohnheadian to make the Galacticos Longlist continues to show his talent and worth.

Left Midfielder: Charles Laker #54 (M) Age: 23 Team: Barnley FC
Caps: 139 Goals: 30 Assists: 21
In the years since our Baptism of Fire we have seen the emergence of Charles Laker on the left side of this midfield. His talent, skills, and maturity level have grown exponentially and he will keep getting better in the years ahead. Laker has slowly been ascending to stardom as one could say and we will get to witness him continue to grow. While Rallyton is still the star of the midfield Laker paired with him gives us a deadly midfield and his speed is an essential part of his game.

Right Back: Taylor Rodar #15 (F) Age: 23 Team: New Capetown Falcons (Taeshan)
Caps: 65 Goals: 2 Assists: 4
Rodar after leaving Bingham City was called up to the National team as possibly the second center back off of the bench behind Porsha. Rodar didn't play too well at the DBC and Bingham City were awful during their relegation year however she was given a shot at the Cup of Harmony and played well, Michael White really likes her skill set. She currently is the starter at right back for Taeshan side New Capetown Falcons who recently came in third of that higher level league. Her abilities with the New Capetown Falcons as a right back convinced the coaching staff that she could play there and she has beaten out Porsha for the starting right back job.

Center Back: Miranda Atkinson #518(F) Age: 22 Barnley FC
Caps: 126 Goals: 4 Assists: 8
Miranda Atkinson has been the second best player on the defense since she became a starter midway through the Baptism of Fire, two years ago. Since then she has improved, just reached, 20, and not to mention won the MVP with Barnley FC in season 1 of the KFA Premier League. While the following seasons haven't been as good she still has been one of the best defenders in the league and will continue to be so as she grows and develops. She like a lot of this team has her best days ahead of her and will be the starter for a long time.

Center Back: Claire Corton #24 (F) Age: 28 Team: Swisston City FC
Caps: 118 Goals: 4 Assists: 7
Corton had a rough start to the BoF, with some saying her and Vargas were the major problem with the team. She stepped it up a bit later in the tournament but overall had a rough BOF. Since then she has been a real redemption story playing extremely well, a lot better than when Callie Porsha had to step in as her replacement. Corton is still in the prime of her career, but she was injured midway through 85's qualifiers causing her to miss the entire Cup of Harmony. She really has put those questions behind her and has been very solid in the back but will have to keep looking over her shoulder if she wants to keep this spot.

Left Back: Nicholas Radison #14 (M) Age: 26 Team: Port Tacassam FC (Tikariot)
Caps: 143 Goals: 10 Assists: 7
Radison has been the best defender by far. He has the pace to run up and down the wings which is something you always look for in a wing back. Radison has consistently been the lone saving grace of the defense but now the defense is much improved which will take the burden off of his back especially with the emergence of Atkinson, and improvemnts from Claire Corton. Radison is just entering his prime at age 26. He has also been asked to play more of a role in the offense with his speed down the wings. Last offseason he completed a transfer from FC Kohnface City to Tikariotan side Port Tacassam FC who finished in second during his first season with the team with the best defense in the league. In addition Radison has the most caps on the team as well all know availibility is the best skill.

Goalkeeper: Bertha Sanders #1 Age: 23 (F) Team: Sindvpore FC (Indusse)
Caps: 91 Goals: 0 Assists: 0
After starting for Kohnhead at the most recent U-21 World Cup/DBC, Sanders in a surprise move was named the National Team starter over Madison Richards for the IAC. Richards continued to be on the bench as Sanders who looked good at the DBC took over for the legend that was Jackson Newcastle. Newcastle has also returned to and will be a member of the coaching staff and will especially be helping Sanders. It appears as if Coach Kohnhead made another smart move as she looked great at the IAC and could be the starter for the next 15 years. Qualifiers were more difficult for her but she should bounce back here at the CoH. White is keeping her as the starter after a good Cup of Harmony, and IAC. Sanders recently completed a big money move to Sindvpore FC the reigning champions in Indusse where she will continue to get better. Sindvpore captured another league title in her first season there and then in the ensuing League of Victors helped lead them to a surprising trophy. Sanders had an oustanding WC 88 Qualifying cycle and the defense was often the bright spot of her team and a big part of the reason why was the play of Bertha Sanders behind the sticks.

Formation: 4-4-2

Captain: Korkson
Left Free Kick: Rallyton
Right Free Kick: Rallyton
Right Corner: Rallyton
Left Corner: Rallyton
Penalties: Korkson

Coach: Michael White (M) (South Newlandia)

Bench
Forward: Thomas Stratford #12 (M) Age: 22 Nickelson FC
Caps: 37 Goals: 7 Assists: 7
Stratford has not played too much for the National team but with Griffin Pheonix-Anderson retiring and Harry Richman retiring he has moved up to the first choice striker on the bench. He recently graduated from University and succesfully returned to his club of Nickelson to pair with GPA and Madison Richards helping lead them to a second place finish in the league which he followed up with a third place two seasons ago. His best season might have been his third season but the team itself faultered in its first year without GPA finishing in 8th. Internationally he played quite well in Twicetagria starting a couple of games and played pretty good off the bench at the last IAC, qualifiers, and Cup of Harmony. Stratford while he isn't going to supplant Korkson and Maltos has a route to playing time in a formation switch if we go back to a 4-3-3 but it would be difficult to pass any of the current starters. He is a valuable asset off the bench and can start if called upon.

Forward: John Smith #19 (M) Age: 24 South Saints (Ethane)
Caps: 12 Goals: 2 Assists: 0
Smith played for Barnley in Season One but transferred to the reigning champs of Ethane (The South Saints) in that offseason where he helped them reach third place in the league to go back to IFCF competitions. The following season he helped them win the league in dominant fashion cementing his place on the squad. He replaced GPA in the squad when he retired and has moved up to second choice striker off of the bench with Harry Richman's retirement and will be adding some more caps to his International Career. Smith got his second career goal during WC 88 Qualifying and he started his first three games due to player rotation and injury.

Forward: Darien Robin #13 (M) Age: 21 Olympique de Rimouski (Quebec and Shingoryeo)
Caps: 3 Goals: 1 Assists: 0
Darien Robin was a product from the FC Wangor academy who stepped in and excelled in his first season in Kohnhead outperforming every expectation put on him, now for 2.2 million he joins Suzanna Barter at Olympique de Rimouski in Quebec and Shingoryeo. Robin may not get much action in his first cycle but as we saw last season the sky is the limit for him as he just showed how good he can be and now will get a chance to prove his worth at a top team in a good league. In Robin's first ever appearance he came on late against Gouvanarch with the score tied on 1 for John Smith (who was starting due to Maltos and Korkson both being out) and late in the 80s scored a volley off of a Rallyton cross to make the place go wild.

Midfielder: Audrey Henderson #9 (F) Age: 25 FC Kohnface City
Caps: 91 Goals: 14 Assists: 13
For the longest time, Henderson was our top sub off of the bench especially in the midfield and she stepped up big time when Cogginter went down early on during the qualifiers at World Cup 85. Despite this it seemed that the young Henderson may never be given a spot to start until finally before our inaugural IAC, Coach Kohnhead decided to give her the starting spot in for Hannah Horsford as we transitioned to a 4-3-1-2. Henderson played extremely well at said IAC but struggled in both the 86 qualifiers as well as the following Cup of Harmony prompting a benching as Michael White made his first big move. Things were looking down for Henderson but an MVP winning season for the Premier League winning FC Kohnface City side changes everything. She is clearly the top player off of the bench and can play anywhere in the midfield which is a big asset.

Midfielder: Al Torgan #21 (M) Age: 30 Team: FK Finansijskigrade (Sylestone)
Caps: 76 Goals: 11 Assists: 8
He was the top mid off the bench in the 86 qualifiers and Michael White is exceptionally high on him for good reason and with a legendary season with Capital FC in Sylestone winning the league, MVP, and Golden Boot he may have earned the top sub spot back. While the plan was for him to appear as a sub in most games in place of Ida Cogginter, Torgan just outplayed every expectation and added on to Cogginter's struggles his resurgence in his late 20s gave him a starting spot for the first time which he kept for a long time and built on at the Cup of Harmony. While he still played really well in his last season at Capital FC an end of window move to FK Finansijskigrade in Zeta Reka and Hugeltaldom is his next move domestically. He's played well for the National Team and is certainly nowhere near done yet.

Midfielder: Ida Cogginter #41 (F) Age: 30 Team: Alexandria City (Xanneria)
Caps: 86 Goals: 14 Assists: 14
Three years ago before our BOF many thought Audrey Henderson the then young 21 year old would have her spot. Cogginter proved those doubters wrong and had a fantastic tournament. She really is a big part in the flow of the offense and has great skills as a passer. Cogginter plays second fiddle on Kohnhead City to Korkson and Maltos but she really played well in the BOF and some claim her injury was the reason Kohnhead didn't make it to the quarters. Despite her injury troubles in the qualifiers for World Cup 85 she has returned as good as ever in the Cup of Harmony and in the IAC. It was a bold move to give her the starting spot originally and it was a bold move to give it back to her upon her return to injury but she has deserved it both times. Age and injury unfortunately have just taken a toll on her and while she is still good and had a good season for 2nd place Alexandria City in the FLOX she continues to slide down the pecking chart.

Back: Callie Porsha #42 (F) Age: 22 FC Kohnface City
Caps: 69 Goals: 2 Assists: 3
Porsha following CPL's well documented struggles took over the starting right back spot as Coach White eventually benched her in favor of Taylor Rodar. She recently graduate to join FC Kohnface City and is currently the top defender off of the bench. She played a big part in FC Kohnface's turnaround two seasons ago and is only 22 so even though she lost her starting job there is definitely time for her to win it back. Porsha also had a very good year domestically being named to the KFA First Team as part of the best defense in the league alongside Burung Geremek from the Squornshelean Remnant States.

Back: Arnold Donaldson #23 (M) Age: 26 Team: Kinjestad Soccer (South Newlandia)
Caps: 8 Goals: 0 Assists: 0
Donaldson was the third new player added to the roster for the last IAC after a good debut season in Mriin playing for the Vidal Alcehmists. While he's by no means the best player on the team, Mriin teams are a lot better than Kohnheadian teams and the fact that he was starting says a lot. He is replacing Vargas but is probably the last or second to last defender on the depth chart. Despite reports that he would play ahead of CPL at the qualifiers this was untrue as he only appeared in one game however by now it is pretty much official that he is ahead of Prius-Leonard when it comes to the depth chart. Donaldson becomes the next Kohnheadian to move to South Newlandia signing for Kinjestad Soccer on a free due to the collapse of the Alchemists. Donaldson got his first three starts and five total caps during the most recent Qualifiers and played pretty well in those games, while he won't ever turn into an NT starter he's played well off the bench.

Back: Caroline Prius-Lenoard #76 (F) Age: 35 Team: Sporting Kohnhead City
Caps: 74 Goals: 1 Assists: 6
Prius-Leonard didn't start out too well as the entire defense struggled during our Baptism of Fire but since then she has been a constant at right back and has really turned her game around. CPL is getting up there in age and while she has missed only three games as part of the team she has a bad injury history and at 34 many people are worried how much longer she can keep playing at a high level as she has publicly flirted with retiring before last domestic league season and is now on a new team in SKC. CPL looked old, slow, and fatigued during 86 qualifiers which resulted in her being benched for the first time. Donaldson is now ahead of her on the depth chart as is Porsha.

Goalkeeper: Amber Washington #25 (F) Age: 24 Porter City
Caps: 1 Goals: 0 Assists: 0
Washington is the third string keeper on the team and will probably take over the backup role once Richards retires. Washington is coming off of a season in which she won the Golden Boot and was named to the KFA First Team for the winning Porter City. She was the only callup to the squad for the 87 World Cup Qualifiers because White wanted a third keeper and didn't see the field until one match in the World Cup 88 Qualifiers. After Sanders got injured and Richards performed terribly Washington got a start against Garifunya and kept a clean sheet playing a vital role in Kohnhead securing the 1-0 win. Washington is now officially the backup but with only one career cap we hope she isn't ever turned to.

Goalkeeper: Madison Richards #72 (F) Age: 34 Nickelson FC
Caps: 6 Goals: 0 Assists: 0
Richards proved to be a suitable backup in the 3 games that she started last time in place of Jackson Newcastle as she despite some nerves in the first one settled down. At age 34, she will probably remain the backup for the rest of her career as Bertha Sanders has looked very good so far. Richards had another good domestic season and helped Nickelson have a top two defense and finish third just short of the title once again. However she made one appearance during WC 88 Qualifiers and allowed three to Qzvarkian Qaz leading to her benching before the next game for Amber Washington. Given her age and this performance as well as Washington's performance Richards has moved down to the third string keeper.

Mahmoud Casablanca takes a while to realize he's left the jungle. Even then, his vision still swims and he is unsteady on his feet. Everything is a white blur dotted with the gunmetal gray of the beast and its attendants, still circling around him like cartoon stars, tending to their life's work.

"...where am I?"

"That's not important, Mahmoud," the white-cloaked woman responds. "You're safe, you're stable, and you're out of his reach."

"Whose?" his voice is still a cracked whisper.

"We believe you know him as Dr. Osman Herrera."

Mahmoud's face darkens. "He almost killed me. How do you know who he is? Are you from Elvira?"

"In a sense. But that's not where we are. Our location...well, it's easier if you see for yourself. She nods towards a window, and Mahmoud, still staggering, makes his way over. The sights in the window drop his jaw. Before him are stretched miles of colossal white skyscrapers, endless pillars bathed in light and fading into the night sky. They are so high up that he can see past the metropolis, and into what appears to be dark green forest at its perimeter. The scene is unlike anything he has ever seen before.

"Is this...the future?"

She laughs. "Everytime is the future somewhere. It certainly seems like your future, though. But back to your Osman Herrera."

"'My' Osman Herrera...what do you know him as?"

The smile, there just seconds ago, disappears. "Mahmoud, we know him as the man who might end the world. There are forces at play that you won't understand. But you've had the water of the Fountain of Youth. And that means we'll need you to stop him."

may 18, 1517

"It's about bloody time," Yahya Léonidas del Toro spat out as he cleared the last of the undergrowth with his machete. Almost a month after the four of them had initially entered the jungle in pursuit of the Fountain of Youth, the two of them had found their way back to the clearing from which they had disembarked.

"If they left without us, we're dead either way," Abdel Simon replied. "But I prefer dying on the coast to dying in that jungle."

"Let's just stay alive. There could still be natives patrolling here, so watch yourself." Crouching down, they carefully made their way through the last of the trees and cautiously looked out towards the coast. Abdel breathed a sharp sigh of relief as he spotted not only the ship the Caliphate had sent for them, but a coast apparently free of native patrols. The two glanced at each other and ran out onto the sharp black sands of the beach. A cheer rose up from the ship as the crew spotted their captain back - but Yahya noted that they didn't seem concerned at the fact that only two of the original party of four had returned.

"Took you two long enough. How were your first steps?" the First Mate called out.

"First steps? We were in there for a month..." Yahya started. The crew burst out into laughter.
"There's that signature del Toro wit!" One of them shouted back.
You took a look inside May 17, and it's May 18 now! Where's the month in that?"
"The jungle's sent them mad!"

The two of them stepped onto the boat with a creeping sense of disbelief. Yahya knew it couldn't be, but the sailor who'd said that last line looked an awful lot like Hassan Saqat...

Football through Blood
The Beginning

Association Football or Soccer has been one of the most played sports in Indusse. From its systematic start in Indusse, dated back to the World Cup 78 Season, the sport has never faced a notable failure. Soccer arrived at Indusse when Alexander Bennington, who was a noted courtesan in the palace of Emperor Jyotiman Adityaraja Kulashekara (Adhiraja IV) came back to the court after a voyage to distant lands. No one in Indusse knows where he went or from where he brought such knowledge. He proposed the creation of a system promoting soccer but the king said that it has not been the time. Alexander created the "Kulashekara Soccer Council" which is the first form of the Indussean Football Association. The KSC, as it was called later continued the empowerment of Soccer in the nation. The KSC was made the official body by Emperor Adityavarma Kulashekara who himself was a soccer player. He invested a lot of money onto the KSC so that he could make the team the best known in the continent. He established royal funded training centres all over Indusse. He is also the first captain and manager of the national team. Even though there was a lot of training sessions the national team wasn't able to perform well, soon later foreign powers attacked the nation and the Kulashekara Empire collapsed. The New rulers were the Al-Shayarids or Alizadeh Sultanate, they were a Muslim authoritarian empire that imposed a lot of inhumane policies like the Jizya which was a tax for non-muslims. The Sports were all banned and the sportsmen, nobles, workers united and started the Independence Movement. The Known party was the National Democratic Party led by Baskar H Kumar (Current Captain) and they with the help of others routed the colonialists to establish democracy. Baskar was made the President and Father of the nation. He established the Indussean Football Association and played a major role in the transition. Baskar is credited with the changes brought in the indussean soccer.

Greetings, compatriots!
It’s TTV from Poafmersia, where games of IAC-13 was played. Our team just end first match, against Dari Sultanate. Opponents play their first game on the major tournament outside their region, but we didn’t see in Dari players that special nervousness that we observed in our own players in the first year of their performances in international competitions. For the most part, the game was on an equal footing, with some advantage of our players, but Trolleborg team had difficulties to convert their playing advantage into really dangerous moments this evening. The footballers from Dari quickly rolled back to their goal and selflessly defended them, resisted attempts to go into the penalty area by dribbling by grouping two or three players, and competently interfered with long-range shots. But once their tactics let them down - several players rushed to oppose Troll in the center of the field, and he use this perfectly - made a long pass to the flank, where just an empty space was found. Wolters got the ball there, slipped past the defender, and, without waiting for everyone else to rush at him, suddenly shot hard on goal, in the ensuing commotion the ball ended up in the net

Image

And the other potentially dangerous situations in this game were about the same, arose mainly as a result of successful individual actions and a few shortcomings in the defense of the Dari team – like that one, when defenders lost their composure on the second, but Berglund don’t succeed in bring ball into the net.

Image

Although we can see the problems that our lads have with overcoming the defense of the teams that tend to stay on their side of the field, our team nevertheless gained three points. It is not yet clear to what extent the existing shortcomings are possible to correct and how they will affect the results of the upcoming WCQ. Perhaps the real indicator of the capabilities of Morten Troghil's lads will be the fight with Abanhfleft, terribly annoyed that victory eluded them in the last two minutes of their game with Adab. Abanhfleft is well known to us and there are enough skilled players in the roster, so the game promises to be interesting. Let's wish our guys good luck!

Almuzahara hit the ground running, dominating possession and chances while the somewhat sleepy Quodite team still seemed to be shaking off the jet-lag from their arrival. Luckily Oddmar Snævarsson had his head in the game, pulling off a couple of sharp saves, but inevitably the pressure told. As Almuzahara brought up yet another attack, Jón Þór Ármannsson lunged in for a clumsy tackle on Youssef Blanco…

Image
…and Tariq Ben Labrat converted the penalty smartly, head-faking Ármannsson the wrong way and then opening his foot to plant the ball into the far corner…

Image
Once more, Snævarsson kept Quintessence of Dust in the game. Abdellah Elias split the defence with a pass and Ben Labrat ran onto it to hit a powerful strike back across goal. Only Snævarsson’s strong right hand prevented Almuzahara from gaining a 2 – 0 lead…

Image
…and instead, against the run of play, the Quodites struck back. A quick counter-attack saw the ball travel 80 yards in the space of 3 long passes, and suddenly J. J. Rousseau was in space with time to line up his shot, a powerful strike that just curled inside the post to beat Abdel Bekkaye’s dive.

Image
Almuzahara weren’t to be denied indefinitely, however. Bombing another long pass into the box, Ben Labrat and Blanco had time to shuttle a couple of passes back and forth before Blanco let fly, finding the corner with unerring precision…

Image
…and Ben Labrat soon got his turn, latching onto a lobbed pass from Elias. This time he put it past Snævarsson with no mistake, and gave his side an intimidating 3 – 1 lead going into the half.

Image
He would have had a hat-trick inside the first half had Snævarsson not got to this dangerous Blanco free-kick first.

Image
Captain Juurou Okumura lingered on the pitch at half-time to remonstrate with officials, clearly unhappy that some heavy tackling from Almuzahara had been waved on. The fans seemed to enjoy the relatively light touch on the whistle, but Okumura was left fuming after plays like this, where both Kaycee Thurstan and J. J. Rousseau were scythed down, and play waved on…

Image
…or this seeming foul on Brittany Royce by Rashid Averroes. Okumura’s argument had no impact on the officials, only managing to talk himself into a yellow card.

Image
Football, they say, is a game of two halves. Whatever was in the orange slices at half-time seemed to severely revive Quintessence of Dust, who came out looking far sharper. Almuzahara, meanwhile, failed to pick up the energy they’d showed in the first half. Thurstan’s goal, when it came, was practically inevitable, running onto a nice pass from Chi Hương Huỳnh and threading it through the centre-backs past Bekkaye.

Image
It was Bekkaye’s turn to keep his team in it, first showing fast reactions to prevent an own-goal when Thurstan’s shot deflected off Abbas Osman…

Image
…and then going full stretch to palm Chi’s long range attempt onto the post.

Image
As the game got closer and Quintessence of Dust’s equalizer looked more inevitable, Almuzahara’s rough tackling grew increasingly desperate. The referee’s light touch in the first half was nowhere to be seen as Ilyas Youssef hacked down Chi, to the obvious horror of Charly Renard who turned to shout for a medic. Chi had to be substituted and Youssef was lucky to escape with a yellow.

Image
The second half was dominated by Quintessence of Dust, but Almuzahara nearly snuck a game-killing 4th goal towards the end. Cyril Elnehy’s appearance as a substitute sparked a little life back into the tiring team, and he had the best chance of the half, forcing a dramatic diving save from Snævarsson.

Image
In the 80th minute, the dam broke, and Quintessence of Dust equalized. Alex Chapman, on for Thurstan, flicked the ball on, and Žan Luka Krajnik sealed the winner with a bullet header past Bekkaye’s despairing effort. The exciting game gave the neutrals plenty to cheer, and was probably a fair reflection of the day’s efforts from both teams – each of whom would gladly have taken the draw by the end.
